Introduction and Year in Review

Global Sports Podcast Network
Hello and welcome back to the daily Ipswich brought to you by the Global Sports Podcast Network. It is Wild Card Wednesday and it is our first episode of 2025. Happy New Year to all of you listening to this podcast. Hope you had a fantastic 2024 and we look forward to bringing you to 2025 as we've still got the second half of this season to come first and foremost and then into obviously another season at the end of that.

Host Update and Schedule

00:00:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
and So as naturally as today is the first episode of 2025 we're going to be spending it having a little year in review or of the podcast really of how it got on 2024 or half a year in review I should say because obviously the podcast didn't launch and until the start of the season in August there there's plenty going on behind the scenes in the build up to that maybe we'll give a bit of an insight we'll see if that comes up over the course of the episode We did it recently. We wanted to have all four of us here for this episode. We thought it would make a good thing. Unfortunately, we left it too late to record and everyone's now here, there and everywhere with various work or festivities. And you're stuck with just me again, unfortunately,

but don't you worry. We'll be back to the sort of regular sort of timescales and everything next week where you get a lot more of the other lads and you can get rid of me for the time being. and But unfortunately, just for today, I am on my own, but I'm going to run you through what
00:01:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think it's a fun little idea, like a nice little year in review, or like I say, six months in review since the podcast has been live. We've done 80 episodes in that time. It's been plenty of content put out from the four of us and obviously on the GSBN network as a whole, been countless amounts of podcasts in that short period of time. And we are incredibly grateful for everyone who's listened to this podcast, whether it's your first episode today, you've been there right from the start or anywhere in between. It's been a great experience for us so far and we can't wait to get going.
00:02:02

in 2025, like I say, starting with episode 81, which is today's Wild Card Wednesday.

Host's Favorite Episodes

00:02:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
To start off then, let's do the first episode, or first part of today's episode, sorry. We're gonna do, I'm gonna count down some of my favorite episodes so far. Like I said, we've done 80 in total. whatever We're hoping to get and i was hoping to get each of the lads to do that. Let me know their favorite episode, and we'll see if any of them lined up. but In all honesty, I left it to the last minute to ask them when they were all celebrating New Year's Eve, which is when I'm recording this. So unfortunately, I haven't been able to get hold of them to get their thoughts. But I can tell you, so instead of doing the top episode from everyone, I'm going to run you through my personal top three that I've liked, not based on numbers or anything like that, just the ones I've enjoyed the most. So i number three was for me,
00:02:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
My third favorite episode we have done so far was our all-time 11s, way back in September, international break, I think it was, maybe October. We all sat down, we picked our favorite 11s of our lifetime. Obviously, I had a bit of a significant disadvantage there, being born two months after the Premier League relegation, which lost me out on the vast majority of picks and everyone else's teams at that point, and a lot of sort of championship mediocrity to choose from.
00:03:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
probably I walked away with the weakest 11 on the day, but it was such a great episode, getting to hear everyone's different thoughts on the players they watched they loved growing up, or maybe even a bit older. and so see Seeing the guys have so many of the same players together just what and having different memories, or even the same memories in a lot of cases, the players, really fun one to record. I'm sure it was a good one to listen to as well. everybody Everyone's gonna have their idea of what their best 11, each 11 of their lifetime is, and it was nice to sort of sit down and compared ours to each other, or like I say, I was, the rules we put in, if it happened to be in your lifetime, was, say, stitch me up a bit, in terms of, if if our teams had to go and play against each other, or I might have comfortably come bottom of that league table through no fault of my own. But, like I say, it was a very fun episode, and good one to record, because, say, we were still fairly on in the broadcast process at that point, so it was nice to us, it might even have been our first four-man episode, I can't, I'm not 100% on that,
00:04:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
I know we did a quiz as well. I can't remember what way around we did it in the end, but I think that might well have been the first four-man episode, which was always nice. Always a bonus when we get all four of us together. Actually, that's an ongoing theme of my top three, actually. I've just noticed. I was just thinking that all three of my, what I've, clark what I'd say my three favorite episodes we've done so far have all four of us on the pod, which is a nice, which is probably part of the reason why I've enjoyed them so much. And into my second, then my my second favorite,
00:04:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
podcast we've

Memorable Moments and Host Dynamics

00:04:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
done so far. It's actually one we've done not too recently. It was only, I think it was the last Wild Card Wednesday episode, actually, because last Wednesday was Christmas Day, so we didn't put anything up. So the week before that was the Daily Ipswich 2024 Awards. That was a great one. Tom done a fantastic job. He settled, he went away, gave, decided all the categories. We worked on some categories in the chat. Tom went away, came away, all the nominations, done all the groundwork, really. And then us three just turned up and picked our favorite every time. But again,
00:05:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's always a bonus having all four of us together. It doesn't happen too often with our, where our schedules line up. We're all a bit all over the place, but it's always, always makes for a good episode when there's all four of us. And that was, it's great to reflect on a, say like I said, the podcast has only been going since August, but obviously Town have had a very successful 2024, both before and during the podcast. So it was brilliant to reflect on some of the favorite moments of the year. Have a good chat with the guys and it was always good.
00:05:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
Always a good element when there's a bit of debate in there between our picks. or We've made for an exciting episode. Like I said, that was only and he sort was that two weeks ago. I think that episode came out, maybe. So that was nice to see. There's a bit of recency. We're not we not running out of ideas. So I picked one from September and then one from December. So nice to see them. There's no they're still Dragon. We're still getting along. Enjoyment's still there. And of course, it is just great fun to do this podcast. And speaking of great fun,
00:06:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
the none My favorite episode we recorded so far was it very, very fun to record. And that was actually, it wasn't ah ah some little sort of gimmick episode. It wasn't to say like the award show all time 11s. It was just a bog standard Monday match reaction episode, but it was after Spurs. All four of us again, like I say, just completely by chance. It would seem like we rigged that on purpose that we were waiting for that first win of the season to all get together and do a match reaction episode. but completely by chance. We all happened to be free on the day. and We were like, we'll jump on after the game, we'll get an episode out. and Who knows, maybe it's fate that they send out to be the first win. And it was a fantastic win

Looking Forward to 2025

00:06:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
away from Spurs. The first Premier League victory in my lifetime, like I say, born two months after the previous relegation, there was a great moment to so say, I think it was an hour or so after the game finished. We all got, on we all jumped on and recorded the podcast, just all ecstatic as they first, first Premier League win in
00:07:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
22 years and obviously like I say first of my lifetime just to jump on celebrate it together go through it go through and record an episode and the day at the same time Really really fun and like I said that for me I'm interesting to say maybe they'll get the other guys to share some of their favorite episodes on Some of the other some of the upcoming episodes we got coming up because like I said unfortunately I couldn't get hold of them to hear theirs today, which is a shame But instead say my top three they're thoroughly enjoyable experience doing this podcast all the way through from the start to the end of the year. I'm looking forward to going to 2025. And hopefully we'll see where we're at. We've got a whole year now, the episodes. I'll see how many os how many of them I can slot in into my all-time, say what will become an all-time top three. We'll see if any of what we put in this year, how many of those top three survive. But they're in my top three of 2024. The all-times 11's in third. The daily episodes awards in second and the post
00:08:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
Tottenham win match reaction, my favourite episode of 2024. Obviously different perspective for me, obviously being one of the four who sits down to record these, I've sort of done based on how the recording felt for me rather than the outside episode, but let us know your fate, what's your, what was your favourite episode of the 80 we put out in 2024? Let us know on our socials, that GSPN Ipswich, we're fairly active all of there now, something that took us to the latter half of well the latter of the last three months, really, to get them active and going again. But we're on there now. Let us know what was your favorite episode. I'm really interested to see how the episodes sound for the listener compared to how they are for us to record them. I'm interested to see whether there's a correlation there in the top episodes or not.

Global Reach and Listener Stats

00:08:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
And like I say, let us know at gsp it ah ah GSB and Ipswich on all platforms. That's it for part one of today's Wild Card Wednesday. We are going to have a quick word from one of our sponsors,
00:09:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
When we come back, are we looking into some of the stats that come for the podcast throughout our time period that we've been out so far?
00:09:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
And we are back for part two of today's wildcard Wednesday episode, the daily Ipswich year in review or half year in the view, like I say. And say following on perfectly from our little from our message from our friends over at Zencaster there, obviously the platform we use put these podcasts out and rather handily put some nice stats for us to look at. we don't We don't base any decisions or anything based on numbers, but they are isn't and really interesting to look at from time to time, see how things are getting on.
00:10:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
So we'll run through a few of them, how the podcast is cracking on so far, because I know I'm always interested in this sort of stuff, so I'm sure we'll have some listeners that will be interested as well. And say in 80 episodes put out between the week or so in the build up to the start of the season, I think it was right at the start of August, say through till the end of December, 80 episodes in total, streamed over 2000 times across all the 80 episodes. So like I say, for a startup podcast,
00:10:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
is ah ah say on a daily schedule. We're really pleased with that. we holdly we're going to Hopefully we're going to continue to grow out into 2025, but they have ah over 2,000 listens across the 80 episodes. We're really pleased with that. Thank you again to everyone who's listened. Our top our top episode, very interesting to see the correlation between episode good if top episodes for listeners compared to top episodes of me recording. Very, very close actually.
00:11:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
So my favorite episode was the Monday match reaction following Spurs. Our most streamed episode so far is the Tactics Tuesday following Spurs. So clearly, everyone is in a good mood as we were recording those two episodes following that Spurs victory. So we did say, obviously, Tactics Tuesday. We delved a bit deeper into the game. was A lot more emotional reaction on that Monday one, which is probably why I logged in the recording. But there's some more the tactical analysis of that Spurs game dissecting how we went and picked up that first win of the season at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. That was our most streamed episode, so nice enough naturally. The episodes are a lot more enjoyable to record and listen to after a positive result. um we'd wait When we awaited 10 games into the season for that first win, a lot of relief as well as enjoyment out of that result. And naturally, they made for two very good episodes, the Monday Match Reaction and Tactics Tuesday, like I say.
00:12:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
one one of One of them was my favorite, and one of them has been our most streamed. So clearly, I want to listen to a favorite on that one. A very interesting feature, actually, you can do is that we look at on Zencast, which that knows where our countries come, what countries our streams come from. So naturally, we are very UK, we're UK heavy on that one. Over a thousand, so roughly half off of our total listens are from across the UK.
00:12:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
So I think I'm pretty sure it groups Wales and Scotland all in the UK there as well, rather than just England. But naturally, obviously, talking about the Premier League, talking about Ipswich, going to do well in England, we're going to do well in England. There's always going to be the top one where we're all from as well. But what's really interesting for me anyway, is the two kind of those countries that make up our top three is that the podcast have has a strong listenership in the United States, which has caught me by surprise. Obviously, I know our own our owners are from there, obviously.
00:13:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
Richard's actually over there now enjoying some say for Christmas and New Year festivities. and so That was something i wouldn't I didn't see coming when we started up this then we started up the podcast and when we were all preparing for it over the summer. We've had over 700 streams over in the US so shout out to all of our listeners out in America. We're pleasantly surprised by how many many of you there are and we're really we Something a really extra bonus we weren't anticipating in this podcast, something we really enjoyed doing, seeing the podcast continue to grow in America. We're actually at the point now where sort of week to week, month to month, that USA and UK are fairly level in terms of the numbers we get. So massive shout out to all those Americans. You're fighting from the other side of the world. You're fighting hard against the local audience there in terms of how you listen to this podcast, which is great for us to hear.
00:14:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
And then surprise, the one that I'll say, so I've said US was surprise, isn't he? Completing our top three is, so obviously there's a bit of a link there with the owners, I'd say, yes. I'm not sure where this link comes from. ah Completing our top three is Norway, which, say, has caught me massively by surprise that we have consistent listeners in Norway. So with that, if you are a listener from Norway, massive shout out to you. Hey, we're very we're incredibly pleased at the reach we got there. We weren't expecting an international podcast,
00:14:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
especially in the first few months of it, but say to be having consistent listens over in Scandinavia, something that caught us out. Maybe we could have got a bit of Sweden, I know Jens Güster's got his links out there, you never know, but say Norway's caught us off guard. And say shout out to you if you're odd if you are a listener in Norway, let us know, they get in touch with us. all We'd love to know who our Norwegian listeners are, as well as our American and UK listeners as well. Get in touch with us, let us know where you're listening from.
00:14:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
always interesting for us to see. We had some good, listen, we had some good nights of streams in Canada as well, South Africa, New Zealand, that we're really, we're really surprised and pleased at how the the sort of global reach the podcast has got. We weren't, something we weren't expecting, we obviously we know it, we all know we have such are a massive club, have the reach all over the world, but we weren't expecting that to carry over into the podcast in the first few months and we're looking forward to continuing to put out content on the poll with the podcast in 2025 and hopefully we'll grow those numbers and maybe we'll even pick up some more countries as well on our little stat chart of where we get listened to but say UK number one, US number two and Norway number three shout out to all of our listeners wherever you're listening from particularly anyone in amongst our top three.
00:15:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
And that wraps up, I'd say, part two of today's podcast. There's some interesting numbers in there, something I find interesting to hear about other podcasts, see the things like that, like countries that are listened to, streams, that sort of numbers are something I find interesting. So I'm hoping you found that interesting as well. When we come back from a quick message from one of our sponsors, admittedly, we're quite a bit of a month or so late on this, I'll hold my hands up there. But I'd say, we'll be diving into Our Spotify wrapped and seeing some of our stats specific to Spotify. Obviously, like I said, maybe a few weeks later, but we purposely ignored it because we wanted to do a podcast on it and why it went better than New Year's Day as we reflect back. And we'll get onto that after this message.

Spotify Wrapped Insights

00:17:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
and welcome back to the final part of today's Wild Card Wednesday episode and say, concluding our first episode of 2025. So we, like I said, we're going into the Spotify wrap. Obviously I've run through some few stats on that we get from Zencast that shows us obviously all the different platforms of podcasts is available on. Obviously we're available wherever you get your podcasts. Let's say Spotify specific,
00:17:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
always a good fun this time of year Spotify route then it's the first chance for us to get one as a creator and go through obviously all sorts of a few similar stats to what we've seen from Zencast so we're not going to go over them but what was interesting is that the top episode on Spotify was not the same as our top episode overall so obviously the the Apple listeners of on everywhere else have jumped together and pushed the tactics Tuesday for Spurs up to the number one spot overall but it's actually Another international break special, like I say, my, I like the all time 11s that we did. It was, it was our keep or sell international break special, which was, which was our top episode on Spotify. It doesn't include the last sort of few weeks of episodes. Like I say, these can, we know, we have no Spotify wraps been out for like a month. We want it to wait and do it on a year and review episode. So we look for it. I looked at it for, I had a look at it this morning.
00:18:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
prepared for this episode. And that's the first time I've looked at it, despite it being out for so long. It was really interesting for me to see. Like I said, the Keep Will Sell episode, and another really fun episode to watch. Again, I'm pretty sure it was all of us. I'm not actually 100% on that one, but I think it was, but I suppose it's the the intrigue of so trying to see how many players we designed to sell, which was, I think that was October, so two months into a season, how we completely turned and wanted rid of half of the squad. And I think that might've been where So we have a bit of an ongoing joke with our podcast, may say especially in our WhatsApp chat when we're not recording that. I think that was the episode where Richard said he'd sold Dara O'Shea two months in, and then about three weeks later, he broke into the team. He hes started having this really good run of games that he's still on now. I thought he was very good again against Chelsea, someone I didn't specifically go and shout out when I did the reaction episode. But there's a bit of an ongoing joke now. Every time Dara O'Shea does something
00:19:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
Richard gets a bit of stick in the group chat, because it was on this episode that he said he'd sell him, but so I'm sure we've all, I think ah we've all gone in there and I think we all had one or two dodgy sales in there, considering we were two months into into a season, we were never going to be fairly accurate of opinions. We haven't had much time to form opinions on a lot of other players by then, but that was a really good episode and it's nice to see that one went down well with the Spotify audience. And so there's the bit that's really sort more of a thank you rather than reading them out for me

Listener Engagement and Gratitude

00:19:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
now really. Like I say, this podcast, so firstly, we were rated, we have a five star rating on Spotify, dont and so didn't from a decent amount of reviews as well, so that's an average rating. We're getting a lot of five star reviews on Spotify, very grateful for that. Make sure, say, if you do enjoy listening to the podcast, make sure you do, make sure you are rating us five stars on Spotify and Apple podcasts that very, very appreciate by us. Like I say, a podcast,
00:20:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
not even six months old yet in what we've done together. So to see so all these, okay, any interactions on our socials, obviously people would like and comment on our videos on there, five-star ratings on Apple Podcasts and Spotify. they mean They're a big deal for us. Obviously they were a new show. And of course GSPN is still a new network. We all launched at the same time. So it's a new, obviously a new,
00:20:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
new network and new podcasts and more followers and likes and interactions and everything we get across social media, Spotify, Apple podcasts, everywhere like that. ah So it makes a huge difference to us and for the network and it helps us to keep it so keep improving across the shows and bring you better content and guests going forward into 2025. Now the big one, but so the big thank you. So considering Spotify Wrap takes the data from the whole year and like I could say, we were four or five months of that we had an episode we were we were in the top 10 for 25 people where we say we didn't even have a sample size of a whole year that is that's incredible to us really we're and very very grateful to be that rank was to rank that high up in people's spot in people's spotify that you're listening to us on there i say like we've had like so we've had a bit enough of an impact in a short period of time to get into the top 10 really pleased with that and then
00:21:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
as well from those 25 people, 17 of the, we had in the top 10, the 17 of those 25 people were in their top five, which is even more is is even better than we could have hoped of or say to be in, like I could say, for a podcast, we have over, we have a lot of episodes out, obviously, 80 episodes in our short period of time, there's plenty of content to go and listen to, but say for, have and such a high amount of people, we're already in their top five,
00:22:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
over a and so when we've had less than half of the sample size of the data is taken from. We're really pleased with that. And to carry on down that route, so for we would we were the top podcast of 2024 for six people. So if that was what you are one of the six people we topped your Spotify wrap this year, if you can even remember, because I'm reacting to this sort of stuff about a month later than it actually came out. But if you were one of the six people that we finish top of your podcast charts and your Spotify route. Thank you for so, so, so much for your support on the episodes. Really appreciate it. Let us know as well. Let us know on our socials that you're one of those six people that we finished top of. We're so appreciative of all the listens, obviously, particularly for those people where and we're in the top 10, top five, and then right at the top four. But all of our listeners, like I say, so we're still we're growing the podcast. We're still very, we're still new. we're not even so
00:23:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
known six months into this journey. And we've still got, they're only halfway through the Premier League season as well. Still got half a season to go. And then after we see what we go from there. Fingers crossed another Premier League season after that. Like I said, there's a half a season to go, but hopefully we can go on. And obviously the better the town of doing on the pitch makes these podcasts a lot easier and more enjoyable to record. And we get to respond to big, we get to react to big victories. Like the one at Chelsea this week makes it all, I'd say,
00:23:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
everything makes it worthwhile.

Future Plans and Crossover Tease

00:23:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
seeing and Seeing these sort of numbers makes all everything worthwhile because it we we put in ah we put the hard work in to get this podcast out. for we try We try hardest to rarely miss five episodes a week. We say we try and hit that consistently. We have to miss a few here or there. We have a break for Christmas or so. Sometimes we can't we can't get five out for whatever reason, but we try our hardest to keep consistent and say seeing some of the numbers and statistics and everything that we had we had over the course of from August through to the end of the year. It makes it all worthwhile for us and we can't wait to keep going into 2025 and say fingers crossed we have a successful season to report on, but it's with it in the remaining half that's left and we can stay in the Premier League. But say one final, like I said it earlier, I'm going to say it again now to wrap up today's episode. Thank you so, so, so much to anyone who listens to the podcast.
00:24:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
whether you've been there from episode one all the way through, whether this is your first episode today or anywhere in between. We bret we we love making it and say haven't and we wouldn't be able to keep making it if we didn't have people listening to it. So thank you so much for who support our podcast and also people who support all the other podcasts on the GSPN network. We've got some big things planned across the network going into 2025, which we're looking forward to sharing with you, like I could say, across the network and with the daily Ipswich as well. It's going to be a big year.
00:25:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
We're looking forward to it. and there And we hope you'll be joining us on that journey. That's the end of today's Wild Card Wednesday. Fairly short episode today. Obviously, I am here on my own. And I just thought it'd be a really be nice way to round to start off 2025 with a quick reflection of 2024. It was ah massive obviously a massive year for the podcast, but it didn't exist at the start of the year. So I thought it'd be fun to reflect on that. We'll be back tomorrow.
00:25:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
with a crossover Thursday episode with the lads over at Daily Fulham and looking ahead to our trip to Craven Cottage on Sunday afternoon. And until then, you can keep up to date with us, like I say, on our socials, at GSB and Ipswich. Like I say, get in touch. If you ah we ranked in your Spotify wrapped or let us know where you're listening from, if you're in USA or Norway or any other Canada, New Zealand, any of those other countries at the top, let us know. We'd love to hear from you.
00:26:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
But like I could say, we'll be back tomorrow of a crossover. Until then, thank you for listening and see you later.
