The Cheese Is Good, the Decisions Stink

Transcript

Speaker: And welcome back to another episode of the Ohana Packers Edition podcast. In light of the Packers getting their fifth win on the season, I am in sunlight. Well, no, it's overcast here. But the Packers are sitting at 5-3.

Speaker: um You know, game got a little closer in the end than it needed to be. But we get to sit pretty here on a Sunday. And unfortunately... wallow in the what-ifs that could have been if the Packers didn't blow week seven. But hey, um you know you set yourself up to be you know potentially out of fourth place in the division, pending you know the outcomes of this current Detroit-Minnesota game and the Chicago... Oh, fudge. Who are they playing later? Seattle game ah later on this afternoon or this evening, ah depending on your time zone. But

Speaker: Packers held serve and that's what you need them to do at this point in the season. um And they just have to continue to hold serve. And when their opportunities come against the division once more, you have to win those games. But Joe, like I said, you know, we'll go through our usual categories. But overall, it was a good Thursday and it's led into a very relaxing Sunday for the Packers.

Speaker: For sure. But the the real question is, is since you've got kids, how was trick or treating and Halloween on, on Saturday? Oh, it was great. The kids had a wonderful time. The costumes are still... because um The past few years, you know we live in an older neighborhood, so no one really... um There's not a lot of trick-or-treating around our house. So we go to the mall, and it's nice. you know It's climate-controlled all those kind of things. So it's um much more comfortable, and you know you don't have to worry about... you know There's been like a monsoon condition that's been rolling through um the islands recently. so um

Speaker: It was really nice to not have to worry about the rain or anything like that. So kids had a good time. um The costumes that Marisol came up with were exquisite and everyone loved them. Obviously, it'll it'll of course be in um retrospect, but we'll show them.

Speaker: We'll bring them on next week when Halloween is definitely over and everyone goes, why is that on screen now? But back to the Packers. Yeah. Uh, yeah, it was a good game overall. Like you said, it did start getting a little bit closer than it should have towards the end. And there were some things, again, there's some things that need to be worked on some decision-making that happened that I just have no clue why certain things happen, but yeah, we'll get into a little bit that there, but overall good win.

Speaker: and and no major major injuries that we know of, though we will talk about some certain things that happened. But i yeah. OK, so it was one of those that probably we should have brought up before. But do you want to go into the revelations that came up Yesterday, you know, we're recording this on Sunday, the revelations that came out on Saturday. Or do you want to hold that for Wednesday when I feel like we'll probably get, we'll have more data information on what's happening with that situation?

Speaker: We can mention it right now. I have no idea what, so what Mike's talking about is, is the, the stuff that's coming out about Josh Jacobs and how they, they had a big data dump on, on, from a FOIA request on the case. And there what now three more allegations that date back to like 2021 or 2022 or something like that. Right across 21 and 22. Yeah.

Speaker: And right now gotta, I wanna always say everybody's innocent until proven guilty. Everybody, you know, you don't wanna not believe things and all that, that but you just gotta reserve judgment for the most part until you get the full story.

Speaker: Now, with that being said, with all the stuff coming out i cannot see how josh jacobs is going to be with the packers much longer i i was going to make this one of my moldies so i'll reserve saying it a little bit until then but just

Speaker: this overall this does feel like the ray rice situation all over again And the video hasn't even been real. You know, the videos haven't even been released, but just that, you know, he served six games as a quote unquote on the, uh, the, the yeah commissioner's list.

Speaker: And that was a suspension, but now more stuff's coming out. So it feels like more could be doing. i did see somebody tweet and I had to take it with a grain salt that, well, I've been saying this for a long time. You know, there was stuff even going back to his Alabama days. And I don't remember much being said going back to Alabama, but, uh, I, I don't know. I mean, they, I do feel like now they're going to have to cut ties with them, whether they want to or not.

Speaker: And cause he's kind of made the team look foolish because you had LaFleur come out and say, oh, well, I believe in giving everybody a second chance.

Speaker: Well, technically that was your second chance. And now we're finding out even more stuff of, you know, Gudkunst never really did come out and make any statements per se over the situation.

Speaker: They've released official statements from the team, but that's about it. um Of course, you know, the lawyer his lawyers are coming out and saying, well, the league knew about this because we did tell them and all this. And I don't know. It's a messy situation, but i just I think it's going to have to just to save face. You're to have to cut ties with him.

Speaker: Yeah, like you said, i hadn't seen the lawyer statements. i I am really interested to see how that's going to factor in, because one of both in his court date and, you know, his statement to the league was that basic, you know, for all intents and purposes was Jacob stating that this was an isolated incident.

Speaker: This isn't a repeat of behavior, you know, all that kind of stuff and it won't happen again. And it's like, and I agree with you where like, it's not... the Ray-Rai situation where the the video is out and it's terrible, but it's like, like you said, this was supposed to be the one and only thing, and now we're finding out that there is more, you know, under the, you know, under the, the you know, there's there's more that's not quite six feet under kind of thing and stuff, and it Okay. So just before you go on, this is what the lawyer statement that I was talking about said.

Speaker: The Brown County district attorney's office had these uncorroborated old and previously unreported allegations for months. They conducted their own exhaustive investigation along with the police department and the DA determined and the DA determined that only two misdemeanor charges were warranted. They then entered into a plea agreement with Josh Jacobs.

Speaker: Josh has repeatedly expressed his remorse and is honoring the terms of the agreement. So, yeah. Like you said, we don't know exactly what happened. There's a lot, a lot of lawyer speak in that statement.

Speaker: ah There's a lot of painting. There's a lot of gilding the pig in that statement. um And at the same time, like you said, everyone deserves their day in court. But the the way I look at it is, and and why I said I would kind of hold most comments until Wednesday is, I feel like Wednesday is when the league would If time need be, they would state, oh, his his suspension is in fact...

Speaker: 12 games or something like that because this is a repeat of past behavior, blah, blah, blah. So he would have to be suspended four more games, let's say, in the event that it is a 12-game suspension.

Speaker: And then in there, the Packers may say, you know what? We've lost three-fourths of the season. At worst, we're going to petition the league to recoup his loss, you know, that the the cap hit that was lost to his time on the suspension list.

Speaker: And honestly Given what we've seen from him the past few weeks, like, I didn't think, I didn't realistically think that he was going to come in and save the run game, but he's been borderline terrible on certain things. And, you know, I was going to go into it on some of the moldy stuff this week.

Speaker: Um... There have been plays where he looks no better than Lloyd and strong in terms of how he's read some inside plays and things like that. And I know that there there is some more like, okay, there's past performance that shows that he would figure it out and more than those two guys would and stuff. But don't know, like, and I don't mean this to say that I'm only saying this on an ROI standpoint. Like, I still stand where we've been, we that I still stand on where the two of us have been, where we're like, we did not like how this situation played out. We did not like

Speaker: the position that the team was in or just the the connotations of Jacobs being on the Packers and what that means and stuff. Suffice it to say, like, I do think this is now an untenable situation and like you, that we more than 50-50 have seen him take his last snap with the Packers, especially, especially if the league comes down and says like, it's now a 12 game suspension or he's like suspended for the entire so you know this is a one season suspension because you know even if those were uncorroborated blah blah blah there is still a measure of repeated behavior conduct unbecoming of the league you know like the league can do whatever it wants that's that's the thing is like a lot of people try to say like oh but they don't handle it this way

Speaker: um You've heard Westendorf and Huber on SI say it. You've heard Bukowski say it on um Locked On, where it's like, the league can do whatever the hell it wants if it does it in the... And they won't say it, but they will do whatever they feel is necessary to protect the image of the shield.

Speaker: And that... And that's that's why I say it kind of reminds me of the Ray Rice situation, because you know they suspended Ray Rice to start with,

Speaker: Then, you know, he served a suspension. Then all the other information come out, but in Ray Rice's case, it was the, the video and then they suspended him even more.

Speaker: Yeah. And then that eventually ended his career because he never got another look back into the the league. But you know, so that's where I say it kind of reminds me of the race race situation where, you know, there's going to be,

Speaker: if If the NFL didn't know about that and, and these are big ifs because we don't know what the NFL knows. We don't know what Josh Jacobs lawyers are telling people. We don't know what, you know, law enforcement is telling people,

Speaker: ah

Speaker: If they deem the, the, like you said, this is repeat behavior, they're going to give them an even more suspension. Now I have to ask because I know baseball started doing it when a lot of guys were starting to get in trouble.

Speaker: They started requiring poison pills into the contracts. Are there any more, are there that in the NFL? I don't think so because of the fact that the NFL, you know, outside of Deshaun Watson, there are no 100% guarantee or, you know, anything near like... Because I think the NFL and the NFLPA, their stance on it is our contracts aren't fully guaranteed. So if...

Speaker: stuff happens you have to eat the guaranteed money but you're just not gonna owe us the unguaranteed and I think they all sides sort of wash their hands on that because the PA is always gonna be like well we're supporting our players but if you do something that makes the you know it's a similar to the the the league itself where it's like well shit you made us all look bad so we can't help you now kind of thing you know it's a it's a very Ask backwards method because and at the end of the day, and I say it, you know, all this has affirmed for Packers fans is no, our team is no better than any of the other 31 teams.

Speaker: Everyone is operating to win. This is a this is a sport where the business modus operandi is to win. And the Packers, you know, ah so many Packer fans want to believe that the Packers are a shining light, all that kind of stuff, and they operate on a higher standard.

Speaker: At the end of the day, they're no different. They're going to want to win. the book the The most potentially damning part of this is what we were kind of saying about LaFleur, where it's like, you couldn't stop talking at a point early on in this because...

Speaker: What's going to happen now is because these are like 21, 22 incidents and stuff like that. Now the questions are going to be at, you know, what's going to start coming out, you know, no matter what happens with Jacob's situation is how much did the Packers know?

Speaker: Did they do their digging? And The easy defense, quote unquote, for the Packers in that if they didn't is these were unreported, you know, relatively unreported, you know, non-corroborate, you know all the stuff the lawyer said that like it didn't come out in like the wide public record kind of thing. And people are going to say, you know, and when I say people, rival fan bases are going to say they should have done their due diligence, blah, blah, blah. We just saw a division rival trade for someone who has a big, know,

Speaker: thing on his record from similar time window. was just going to say that all these Bears fans... Yeah, and it is funny how they spent a week bashing Jacob's return. And then immediately on, what was it, Wednesday or Thursday, they were like, oh, it's seven years ago. It doesn't matter anymore. He's a different person kind of thing and stuff. And I don't say that to say the Packers get to wash their hands with me. But my point is that LeFleur is going to get tattooed for this one way or the other because...

Speaker: Like I said, I agree that there is a point that the team needs to show its support to the player. Like... That's just how these things work. You can't have the locker room divided. You can't have the black... Because if you're going to have the black sheep, you need to cut him kind of thing and stuff.

Speaker: I think LeFleur went twostep or two or two miles too far on his defense of Jacobs. Because now it's like... His only thing is, well, he deceived me and I believe I wanted to believe in the better of the people kind of thing. And like that's he's going to have to go on. And like I said, I don't know what's going to happen. the The NFL could say, yeah, the lawyers are right. It was fully, you know, this was fully reported and we were aware and blah, blah, blah and all that kind of stuff.

Speaker: I just think that, especially in the modern climate and all that kind of stuff, the NFL is going to come down on Jacobs and the Packers are going to use that as their get out of jail free card to be like, well, we were in we were behind Josh that this was an isolated incident, but because of the extenuating circumstances, you know we're you know we are moving in a different direction kind of thing. And it does come down to the fact that Right or wrong, fair or not, whatever label you want to put on it, he did not come back and look like 2024 Josh Jacobs again.

Speaker: He looked like like the the the worst versions of how he was last season when you're kind of like, oh, are the wheels... Do they have to move on from Jacobs this past offseason? You know, like, that was... There was legitimate concern that that was... with it and then he had the big run against Denver and all that kind of stuff. But, like, there was a point last season where i was like, they may need to do the...

Speaker: the whole Green Bay Packers free agency four-year contracts are two years and two we'll see years as Andrew Brandt always waxes poetically on. And so, you know, at the end of the day, that's what it's going to come down to. I do think that there was a part of LaFleur that was like, I just need to have this offense survive until Jacobs comes back. And that's why he was quote unquote steadfastly in his corner.

Speaker: But LaFleur is to have to do a different kind of damage control in the coming weeks because he is going to be asked about that. Like it's coming, it's coming in either tomorrow or Wednesday's presser. Like it's going to happen. in

Speaker: Yeah, but it's like I keep saying when it comes to these press conferences. Right. you're You're only going to get coach speak out of them, and you're never going to get a coach that's going to come out and say, that guy's terrible, we need to cut him tomorrow, and and stuff that. Oh, yeah, because the PA will sue their ass if he ever did anything like that. Yeah. Well, not just that, but you destroy the morale of the locker room by coming out and just ripping on a player.

Speaker: So you know you you're going to get this guy coming back. You know this is going to...

Speaker: So he can't really come out and say, no, we don't want this guy on our team. We don't want to do this because, you know, he at that point you knew he was going to be coming back onto the roster.

Speaker: So I understand him having to put a good spin on things. So I, I agree that it is going to hurt him in the end, but I also, I also think people have to realize that a lot of the things they say in the press conferences don't mean how they actually feel outside of being the head coach.

Speaker: because he's got to keep team morale going and if players see, well, he's throwing this guy under the bus, you know, why do I want to keep playing for him? oh so I, I think people had to take a lot of the things that are said by the floor in, I mean, look at the whole uh, Micah Parsons situation, you know, instead of just flat out saying, yeah, we expect Micah to be practicing within the next week or two.

Speaker: Well, we'll see. I'm hopeful. I'm this. Or instead of giving answers to certain things, you know, well, we'll see. i don't know. Yeah, he he looks good and blah, blah, blah.

Speaker: So, I mean, you just gotta, yeah, take that with a grain salt. Yeah, and my only thing with LeFleur on that stuff is, like, for that reason you bring up is that he is so clandestine and cloak and dagger on so many things.

Speaker: And, like I said, my whole thing with LeFleur and um Jacobs is, like, It's the whole, you get one. like You get one. kind like You know what I mean? like You can back him the first time. But like for a guy who's just so openly like, oh, like we don't know who our starting left guard is going to be. We don't know what the... yeah And then it's like, he decides that this is the one where it's like, I'm putting all my eggs in the basket kind of thing. it's And like that's the one where, to me, like when your whole...

Speaker: MO all up to that point is like, ah like we're playing cloak and dagger and we're doing this and that and stuff. And, um, and then with this, it's like, Like I said, that's where I'm like, he's going to have to answer for is because it's like, this is the one that you decided to dig your heels in. I agree with you. Like, there I do think there is a method to that madness.

Speaker: And at the same time, I'm like, like, it just, there there like you said, there weren't going to be any winners. But now that the now that it's turned down this path, it's like, it's what ah it's it's like LeFleur, it's like the Detroit game where it's like, he let...

Speaker: the missed field goal change decision making later in the game kind of thing and stuff it's sort of that it's like how he calls games is how this is sort of blowing up up in his face right now Side note, and I promise we're going to get into the Packers game right after this.

Speaker: I think Jack Campbell is getting stretchered off the field in Minnesota right now. I believe he got he got crunched in a tackle on TJ Hawkinson over the middle of the field.

Speaker: And it looks like he's getting stretchered off with some kind of head injury or something like that. so Is that the one that I was just seeing on like they just cut Twitter where like Branch came in low for headhunting and... I don't think he was... I don't think he was even Branch that... I think it's because he hit... Like, I don't know who the hell O'Neal is, 66. But...

Speaker: um but They both hit Hawkinson on ah on opposite sides kind of thing, and their heads kind of collided. Like the force vectors hit on ah and into each other kind of thing. Okay, no, I just... yeah I was trying to scroll through Twitter for something real quick, and I came up and... No, this one he hit DJ Wanam. Wanam was going down onto the player, and Branch came in headhunting and took out Wanam...

Speaker: I fucking yeah. Uh, that's a whole other thing, but yeah, I mean, w we need to move on with it. I don't know how much more we can talk about it until we know the whole situation. it just, it's a bad situation all the way around.

Speaker: You'd never want to see that kind of things happen, especially with a team like the Packers who are

Speaker: in the past notorious for not allowing. but Well, at least under Ted Thompson. Let me put it that way. At least under Ted Thompson for not having that reputation of getting players who have done something like that.

Speaker: yeah um So, yeah, it is what it is. Let's go ahead and move on to our new fancy... oh The cream of the crop. It's fresh cheese.

Speaker: So, you want to go first, or... I feel like there's two major low hanging fruits as Mike would put it. Uh, I,

Speaker: I don't know which one I want to steal. Do I want to, I think if I had a different category and put like super cheese or, you know, whatever, I would have to put Christian Watson as that. But since we only have the three, it would be, uh, he's definitely in the fresh. The, the guy is, you'd you'd have to think he went through the, the, uh, uh,

Speaker: wolverine treatments when with the way this played out he was having a heck of a game jordan throws a long bomb to him uh he lands wrong they they they get him out i mean he he gets up and and under his own power and goes off

Speaker: Everybody's like, okay, well maybe he just got the wind knocked out of him Then he goes to the locker room. Then we're getting told he's getting taken to the hospital and then like a w WWE production. Well, now he's on his way back from the hospital. Then you see the ambulance. Then you see him get out of the ambulance and then he's jogging to the field and then he comes back in and gets another couple of catches.

Speaker: So they did say he did have a broken rib. The big concern was they said he was coughing up blood. So they were worried about the puncture, but according to the doctors and everything, there was no punctures. There no, nothing.

Speaker: So not even sure where the blood was coming from. but you know an overall great game for him on top of his superhuman abilities uh eight receptions on 10 targets for 113 yards he didn't get a touchdown for the day but had a long of 53.

Speaker: um Yeah. I mean, really great stuff from this guy He's really kind of him and golden have become one of the best duos in the NFL. And if they can work out their struggles with the drops, I think they could be the top duo in the NFL.

Speaker: Yeah, like just ah and for all the people that are like bashing the Packers medical staff and stuff. So this is how my brother explained it to me. And this is how I've always understood it to be with rib issues is that there are different zones that link to different levels of violence.

Speaker: potential danger with a cracked or broken rib and all it really comes down to is basically it's what's behind the rib where the break is kind of thing because the the ultimate fear and there's so much cartilage and like your the oblique not the oblique but there's like cartilage and um tendons and muscle that hold the rib cage together that you know allow your rib cage to expand and contract and all that kind of stuff so You know, even if there's a crack, there's stuff holding that under pressure so that it doesn't move and stuff. But what happens is like what they're concerned about isn't the rib itself unless it's like totally broken and dislodged. But like if it's just a crack, what they're looking at is like, is there a vital organ behind that could be damaged if there's a further chip crack or displacement of the rib? If not,

Speaker: then it becomes jest, a pain tolerance issue. And I say jest in full jest, J-E-S-T, because it, I've heard, is one of the most excruciating and unpleasant things to play through. But quarterbacks have played with this for so long and that's why the flak jacket you know that that extra band of print you know that hangs off the back of the shoulder pads and they strap it up in the front kind of thing that's why quarterbacks wear it watson is almost definitely going to be wearing one in the coming weeks um and yeah like you know we'll see it's one of those where and i i did kind of joke that i think how green bay's schedule comes up through

Speaker: Thanksgiving where they're going to play like three games the rest of the month or two games the rest of the month because that, you know, from Thursday night's game through like December 5th, they play three total games.

Speaker: So that also is like, okay, Christian, you just got to suck it up for this Patriots game and the um the Vikings game. And after that, like you've got so much time in between off and stuff. So like,

Speaker: I know that there's been a couple like recent like o like, that decision on an injury doesn't seem to be working out. But overall, this is still the same Packers med staff that is super conservative, super um you know just going to play it close to the vest when it comes to injury management and all that kind of stuff.

Speaker: You just see how they're handling Parsons. oh ah Well, I was just going to say, but to be fair... It wasn't the Packer medical staff that made the decision that he was okay enough because it was an independent medical facility.

Speaker: Right. So he went to the hospital and came back. back So I I've been loving the memes. There was one cartoon that I saw that it was him sitting next to some old lady in the waiting room. he goes, do you know how much longer this is going to be? I got to go back to work. it So I've been loving the memes with it or you know, him as a w WWE wrestler, you know, coming out of the the um ambulance and his music hits. And i think even ah Triple H came out and said something on Twitter that next time we'll we'll get you a good a better production out of it. And Christian replies, I don't ever want to go through that again. yeah thanks for the so that and like I said, that plays into the whole like it is very uncomfortable.

Speaker: Like, it plays into that angle. um But, like, like you said, like, Christian, like, he goes out, and even if he never comes back, he had six catches for 100 yards with the 53-yarder kind of thing. And, like, it gets a fresh for the sake of its... I don't want to say it's only a broken rear, but, like, you were worried that he, like, broke his collarbone, that he got concussed, that it was a back injury kind of thing. And, like, they're, like...

Speaker: This isn't to downplay like how bad a rib injury could be, but it felt like there were season-ending implications there, and for it to be something that he can play through is kind of a like kind of a best... case um Obviously, you just wish he didn't get injured, but like the the fact that it's something he can work through and play through is like, okay, like we're good to go kind of thing. So...

Speaker: yeah and and like i said good on christian for coming back it would have been really awesome if love had been able to hit him on that um that out and up on his first first play back in which like forget who it was but someone was like that is absolutely diabolical that watson comes back and the first thing you do is running it out and up and it is one of those that like he is there is no one else this ball is going to kind of situations and stuff So yeah, I agree. like it It was just um awesome, awesome spectacle. But more than anything, really glad Christian's okay and that he was able to come back and play the rest of the game.

Speaker: um For my fresh, um I'm going to go with basically all but three of Jordan Love's throws on Thursday night. yeah He had the interception. he had that one weird throw up the seam to Savion where i i think he was, he almost got his hand caught in the cookie jar on that one.

Speaker: um But otherwise, Jordan was having a... Awesome some game. um like And then, like you know, like the stones to go right back to Golden after he drops. on And Golden's drops, yes, we're going to talk about it later on in the show, but these aren't like, oh, he got hit between in the middle of the zero and he drops. dropped it kind of thing. like if he Even the first the second down play on the first drive, if he catches that, that's a... If you want to rate it on a scale of like um zero to ten that's going to be like an 8.5 or a 9 because he's fully extended and Jordan puts up zip on that to get it into the coverage.

Speaker: And then the near touchdown before his actual touchdown, that is the hardest adjustment to make as a receiver because... you're in the margins of where, so what you're taught is you're running in a straight line and you don't want to open your hip because it allows the DB a chance to get back into the play. So what you want to do is you lean, you're leaning out into the ball And once you commit to doing that adjustment, it is hard to pop your hip open and try to catch the ball thumbs in. So he's committed to catching it thumbs out.

Speaker: It's not an easy play. And at the same time, it's it like we've said it last week. We've said it a couple weeks. This is similar to us being critical of Jordan ducking pressure like in week two and week three. It's like,

Speaker: Golden isn't getting paid like a top receiver, but he has set the record that he wants to be treated like a premier receiver. And... At the same time, so he's got to be better. And at the same time, you alluded to this before too.

Speaker: These are the plays that he didn't get to figure out last year due to just how buried he was on the depth chart. And we can hem and haw about, you know, should he have been in over Wicks and Dobbs and stuff. But like, there was always going to be an adjustment period of in live game reps.

Speaker: like they were gonna have to figure this stuff out the main thing is that jordan is continuing to go back to him over and over and over again and you're still getting the benefits more times than you're not because the the the talent is just tantalizingly good from what you're able to get out of gold and And for all the people that are aching over like, why did they keep targeting Jordan? It's because teams are adjusting to playing super blanket coverage over the top of Watson.

Speaker: the The Watson 53 yard play happens because um Carolina just gets so in its head about staying over the top of Watson that I'm pretty sure that play is supposed to go to um to to Tucker on a deep out.

Speaker: But the corner is like, I am not letting Watson get away from me, which does. the the opposite field safety is like, I'm staying over the top of this and the safety to the side of the play, who realistically should be the one picking up Watson on that route, is like, oh God, Will Lee is not coming off of this route. I have to bail and get down to Tucker. So like, just to show like how much coverage Watson is dictating right now,

Speaker: Golden is the guy. It's like it's not a matter of like Matt is drawing up the plays and telling Jordan, like you've got to throw it to him. It's not that. It's a matter of like that's where the play is. is is And jordan and and um matt ah Jordan and Matt and Golden, Matt LaFleur, Matthew Golden, and Jordan have to get it all ironed out and figured out. Watson is going to get his. And even in a game where um Carolina made it his absolute mission to take him away they still got theirs with watson and probably would have had a touchdown if he didn't have to miss a quarter of the game so um suffice it to say like um like they're gonna figure it out and the talent is going to play out that's what it's going to be more than anything else is the talent is going to play itself out but um

Speaker: just, in you know, not to, to agree with Aaron Nagler too much, because I know there's a lot of times that I disagree with him, but you know, and Matthew golden is normally the most sure-handed receiver on the team.

Speaker: And you know, he he said there were times in training camp that you could, he was catching everything. And there were times during this, But again, you you referenced me saying it. I said it.

Speaker: You know, he didn't have the chance last year to work out these bugs with Jordan. We've seen it before with other receivers like a Devontae or a Greg Jennings or a James Jones.

Speaker: Year two is usually when these drop things start happening, but it's because they're adjusting. You know, he's still... Again, you know, a lot of people are calling Watson and golden, one of the top duos in the league right now.

Speaker: And that's even with the drops. So let them work through it. i did see somebody said that they needed to bring back their one.

Speaker: receiving drill that they i think it was under mccarthy that they did it where they had the the jugs machine and they had it going fast and they were like standing right up to it and having to try to catch the the ball that way is like yeah i understand what you're talking about it's frustrating but but also that's not even the one that's gonna help golden like his drops aren't of that variety like Yeah, but the thought process is is it's going to strengthen their hands and and hopefully that helps out with it. But I agree. I understand. i just

Speaker: I see a lot of people throwing stuff out there. You just got to live with them this year and hope that the good thing about it, and you brought that up, is it's not affecting him.

Speaker: you know We're not seeing it like a Devontae did his second year where You had one drop and then the rest the game, it was just nothing but drops or anything like that. He's at least not letting it get into his head. He's not getting the yips or anything like that. So yeah, I think we can move on to our next, your fresh, because I think we've beat this to death.

Speaker: yeah So um I know Jordan was like somewhere between a fresh and like an honorable mention fresh. My thing, my big fresh is just to be this past defense was awesome. um For the the point of the game where the game was realistically in the balance, Carolina didn't get shit in the past game unless they ran a RPO. And...

Speaker: like and and um The Thursday night crew, they did a really good job. Herbstreet was doing a really great job of how like Green Bay was bracketing McMillan, how they were really disrupting young Bryce Young's sight lines to his throwing lanes and making him you know kind of clutch the ball and second guess his throwing angles and all that kind of stuff.

Speaker: but um Like, the coverage was excellent. Cissé had another awesome game. And really, like, they like Bryce just didn didn't know what he was looking at half the time. And I tweeted it during the game where, like, I didn't feel like Ganon was doing anything special with his blitzes.

Speaker: It really was just, like, load the line of scrimmage. This time we're coming from the left. That time we're coming from the right kind of thing. And they just had no answers. Um...

Speaker: Every rusher, but especially Lucas, just took Rasheed Walker behind the woodshed and put him in hell the whole game. He had two false starts.

Speaker: um Like, it was just a bad, bad showing for Rasheed. And I tweeted during the game where I joked, like, okay, like, All of you, and Morgan hasn't been perfect. I'm not here to say that, but I'm like, for everyone who is trying to bash on Gutekunst because Rasheed Walker was like doubling Jordan Morgan up on PFF grades to start the season. I was like, I said it then, i say it now. Did you guys watch the second half of that playoff game? Did you watch the second half of last regular season where Walker was an absolute negative for this team the whole way through? Like, he was unplayable, and...

Speaker: this defense just took him and behind the woodshed and completely systematically dismantled him over the course of the game. um Everyone had a sack.

Speaker: I was so glad, you I said it in one of our group chats. I was so glad that Lucas got the whole sack on his play where he forced the field goal when the game was 27-10 and Caroline made it twenty seven thirteen Because he just... Like, you don't see the guy who runs the push on the stunt get the sack on that play.

Speaker: Because he's supposed to go draw the guard, take the tackle out, and then the the end who's next to him is supposed to come around and get the sack. But, like... Lucas won so dramatically on that play that he just ended up taking both, you know, he he ended up i getting the sack on it. And so I was glad that he got credit for the whole sack on that play.

Speaker: in And um you saw a really nice rush from Baron Sorrell, who's been, who's had like his, taking his lumps as a pass rush through this season. Sutton got the sack that for all intents and purposes, ended the game at the end.

Speaker: And through and through, like I said, the coverage on the back end was good. You know, Nixon was Nixon, but what I will give him credit for is he's not a better coverage player than he's been in the past. What he is doing is he is tackling so much better when he gives up the completions. Gannon has really coached up him and CeCe on, like,

Speaker: Playing the nuances of the position where it's like, yes, you're going to give up receptions, but we are going to tackle and we are going, we're going to get, I am going to create pressure and havoc. The ball is going to come out faster and I am trusting you to make a tackle on this play. Teron Hopper with it.

Speaker: I didn't even see it live where that I, I thought a D lineman batted it. I didn't realize he batted it to himself and stuff. Well, I want to stop you on that one because that was the other low-hanging fruit that I have. So let's do Tyron as a completely separate.

Speaker: yeah He had one of his his best game as a professional. They finally let him play. They finally let him do what... He needed to do, you know, three pass defenses, one sack, eight total tackles, two QB hits, the interception that you were getting ready to talk about where he batted it and intercepted it himself.

Speaker: You know, this is one of those things that... I understand they wanted Zaire as as their veteran presence, as their leader in the defense to let Edge, you know, fly around like a madman, but, you know, Tyron's filling that spot and doing tremendously that next season, you have to even sit there and wonder, do we want to keep Zaire or do we just let the, the, you know, not let's see how he plays out the rest the season. But you know, if he continues to grow like this, it could be a fun decision. Uh, uh,

Speaker: discussion this off season on what to do with him. But, you know, he's he's really starting to pick things up. He is going to take his lumps because again, this is one of those situations like I talked about with ah the Matthew Golden thing. They didn't let him have these opportunities early on in his career. So now that he is getting the opportunities, you've got to kind of take the lumps as they come, but yeah. yeah And he's just, he's been tremendous so far and in his time playing. And you know, if, if this leads to when Zaire comes back a little less of Isaiah McDuffie on, on the defensive side things, then, you know, I gotta say, Hey, I'm, I'm, I'm happy for it.

Speaker: Yep, I agree. And um he just brings so much more versatility. He is by far your best linebacker in reverse, as they say, where like, you know, Cooper, Zaire, Kuei before, They were all guys who were better attacking the line of scrimmage. Hopper is by far the best linebacker on this roster, dropping back into zones and playing in reverse, as they call it. So, like it like you said, it's just nice to see him get into a niche and become a useful player for this defense in a spot where they absolutely need it because that linebacker room is just...

Speaker: being paper mache to the max right now, especially while they wait for Zaire to come back, hopefully within the next game or two. But um like a like I said, in a spot you absolutely needed it.

Speaker: um It was absolutely awesome to see. um And this like it's this stat here is going to be a little bit misleading. He did.

Speaker: He was targeted eight times and he allowed six completions for 75%, but he only gave up 41 yards. Right. And one of them, and the big one was the one where he like he was the closest defender on that that third down conversion on Carolina's first touchdown play where you know he kind of slips. And so like that's like 15 of those yards is on that play alone kind of thing.

Speaker: um yeah Excuse me. So, um, otherwise, like, just a stellar day. And and then another one-on-one was the one where Bryce is, like, i'm not taking a sack here, and he kind of just hucks it over the top of Hopper's head.

Speaker: Hopper almost had a second interception because he's, like, he's playing the the the route correctly. And the best thing I can say about Hopper in coverage is he doesn't panic.

Speaker: He had the breakup on the on the um the wheel route where, um... he he has um he has the running back in coverage, and he just stays in phase and sticks his hand out at the last moment to bat the ball away.

Speaker: Doesn't panic there. Even on, like I said, the wheel route where it gets completed over him, didn't panic on that play. It's just kind of like sometimes you lose when the other the other team gets paid to play you know gets paid to make plays too kind of thing. So, you know, be it as it may, um just like you said, a stellar day for Hopper.

Speaker: um Okay, I gotta interrupt because this just popped up hot my feel on my feed. Buccaneers won to nothing. baker mayfield today versus the falcons 0 for 3 in passing 0 passing yard 0 touchdown 0 interceptions and the buccaneers still freaking won it it was a monsoon because i the only thing i've seen from that game is one where he like went to throw and the ball slipped out the back of his hand kind of thing and stuff so it just looked

Speaker: god-awful out there in tampa and that is another one of those like it's looking like a good win like it's looking really good that they were able to bank that win when they did um and yeah like you just gotta to keep getting those um shout outs that i've got um excuse me well there's one more true fresh go And that would be Brandon C say, because yeah one of the big concerns was how was he gonna hold up against, uh, McMillan, you know, and all that. And overall targeted five times allowed two completions, 21 yards.

Speaker: He pretty much had his guy held down the whole time. uh, and you gotta give it to the rook. He's been, you know, two past defenses.

Speaker: ah you just got to give it to him because he's starting to become a serious player in the league right now. So agree. That's where I was going with honorable, bench somewhere between an honorable mention and and ah and um and a a fresh. But yeah, like you said, he deserves to have the fresh because of, you know, who he is and the expectations that are on his shoulders for this team.

Speaker: Otherwise, I'm ready to move on. All All right. Not the worst of the bunch. It's stale cheese.

Speaker: um I don't know if there's too many that you can really throw into the stale. I'm going to put smack into the stale because he bounced back and hit the rest of his PATs and they were all really clean. um Yeah, like...

Speaker: Well, I guess i I have to say that I'm going to put something in the fresh and i i hate giving this guy too much credit. Uh, dusty Evely has been doing great work and he's actually sitting down and doing breakdowns of the field goals and point afters.

Speaker: And he's starting to notice a lot of the things that we have been noticing. that, know, maybe a lot of the issues have been or sick more than it has been anything else.

Speaker: Now he did say that on smacks, miss P a T the the snap and the hold seemed to be fine. it just there's There's something a little bit off with the way Smack kicked it. the It almost looked he scuffed the ground.

Speaker: like it was weird. It it was weird. I did see somebody make a comment on the article about ah with Dusty that you know he might one of his issues, maybe he's trying to shorten his... his ah process, you know, to go from the way he did it in college to be more of a pro kicker.

Speaker: And that could be causing ah some of his issues. And that makes a little bit more sense because you know, it, when you're learning to do things, you, you try to,

Speaker: oh elongate your process. And now that he's having to do it quicker, you know, ah he's having a short that elongated process. So that makes a little bit of sense. But yeah, I just had to give that small shout out. Not that he really needed it.

Speaker: We love you, Dusty. But yeah, everyone everyone loves Dusty. So the the first person that doesn't like Dusty, we may need to fight them. But ah like I said, our whole thing, because the thing with Onders, and so many people want to make the the the connection to and between Onders and Smack because they're missing kicks.

Speaker: But... Anders just had that blast-over look where you're like, he's going to miss the next three that he tries kind of thing. Or they're going to doink in, or it's it's just going to be ugly kind of thing.

Speaker: There's something to be said that Smack goes out and his other three PATs are just clean down-the-middle kicks kind of thing. And, um

Speaker: you know, suffice it to say, i don't know exactly what the Packers are going to do, but um I don't think it's as clean of a, hey, it's just on smack kind of thing. And like like we said, you draft the kicker, yes, you want him to overcome more times than not.

Speaker: Like, that that is like part of the game. And at the same time, i don't think it's a matter of just, hey, like it's a problem kind of thing. like I think that there's more to it than that.

Speaker: Let me throw out some, some things here. Cause I actually did a little bit of the research the other day because there was some Reddit stuff that was happening and I just, I decided to do a little bit research on it.

Speaker: So some of these are some of the bigger names when it comes to kickers from the past. And these are all from the rookie seasons. So you got Steven Gaskowski 76.9% on his field goal percentages.

Speaker: Uh, 97 and a 0.7 and is in his PATs, but the PATs were closer at that point. Uh, Mason Crosby, 79.5% field goal.

Speaker: Adam Vinatieri, 77.1%. Sebastian Janikowski, like the only first round kicker ever. It seems like. had a 68.8% percentage, Robbie Gould, 77.8, Brandon McManus, who was on the team and people thought he was the, was the kicking God when they first signed him 69.2, Jason Chad Greg

Speaker: phil dawson so sixty six point seven randy bullock seventy four point three you know It just goes to show, and this is the whole reason why I did that.

Speaker: Yes, it seems like the easy answer is just, let's just move on from them. But if that was the the case for these guys who, you know, Adam Vinatieri had the Patriots given up on Adam Vinatieri after a 77% kicking rate in his rookie season,

Speaker: You know, he wouldn't have been. Yeah, they wouldn't have won Super Bowls and he wouldn't have been a Hall of Famer. ah Phil Dawson was like the only thing that was keeping the Browns in games for the longest time.

Speaker: um Jason Elam was like one of the best kickers in the league forever. Robbie Gould again, Sebastian Janikowski. It just, you can't give up on a guy so easily because like you said, it's not like an Anders Carlson situation where you, once you missed one, you were worried that he was never going to be right the rest of the game.

Speaker: So you got to give them a break. You're going to have to live with it because they decided to go with a rookie kicker.

Speaker: We'll see what happens next year. If he starts coming out next year and is going 50%, then maybe it's time to have a discussion. So yeah.

Speaker: Yeah. Like I said, the bounce back deserves to be rewarded, but, um, oh excuse me. Um, Otherwise, my only other stale was going to be Golden's drops. And like we said, I put it there because it's a matter of it's got to be worked through.

Speaker: And, you know, they're going to they're going to live with it. He's too talented for them to. You know, like I see people like you got to go away. I'm like, well, Watson's not open because they're blanketing him with four guys. You know, four guys have their attention on him.

Speaker: um Tucker is getting back, but he's still not back-back kind of thing. um and And I'm not even bothering to put that in the um i'm not even bothering to put that in in any of the categories because it was always going to take Tucker time to get all the way back from his ACL, like just the style of player he is and all that kind of stuff. He's being more impactful. He's not dropping the ball left and right anymore.

Speaker: So, you know, on the golden front, it's like he's just got to get it figured out. And he will. Like, he's too talented not to. And um he just has to figure out, like, it's a matter of... it's the It's just the devil's in the details. It's like when to square up to the ball, when to play stronger at the point of the catch, when to, you know, like we said the other time, like, catch it and keep the ball extended away from his body because the DB can't put his hands around him and knock it out kind of thing. Like... There's all these different factors in there and stuff, but he's he's got to just... It's just on-the-job training. That's all it is, so that's... Sorry, nothing funnier than the TV crews coming in and being the reason that a fight gets broken up at the end of this Vikings-Lions game. Like, you see, like, the fire the players getting in a scuffle and the first people aren't the refs. It's like the boom mic operator and the cameramen are getting into the middle of the melee, so... um

Speaker: It's just comical, but, um... They're gonna figure it out. That's why I have it still. Yeah, and so like, it's it's irritating, but it's not concerning, if that makes sense.

Speaker: Um... The one that I'm going to throw into Stale real quick is just Coleman Owen. I thought that was going to be game. ah His fumble on the opening kickoff because it's like, all right, well, they just deferred. The Panthers won the toss. They deferred.

Speaker: You're getting the ball start the game, and you immediately fumble. So now you've got Panthers at short yardage to start the game. Then they get the ball back at the ah start of the second half.

Speaker: i I thought that was going to be the killer moment. and night Yeah, and it's a Thursday night game where weird shit happens and all that kind of stuff. And ah like and I honestly tweeted, cut him, because i was just like, are you kidding? like You're literally on this roster to do one thing, and you fucked it up on the first touch.

Speaker: And then I had to give him credit on the next touch he got, or not the next touch, but then he had that punt return later where I saw a lot of people were like questioning, like, why did he do that? Yes, he should have...

Speaker: tracked the ball better and fielded it on the fly. But he did save the Packers 10 to 15 yards of field position by making the risky move to catch that thing off of a bounce. Because, like, if he lets that thing bounce by him, that thing might go inside the 20 or inside the 15 kind of thing. So, like, had he moved there? And, like, I said, he deserves to be credited for having the balls and the gall to make that decision after fumbling the opening kickoff.

Speaker: So, um... he knew he had to, yeah yeah, I agree. And that's why it's in the stale this week, just because of that one boneheaded move. And yeah, so don't do any more stupid shit and you'll, you'll stay out of our, our moldy cheeses, but I had to put it in stale this week because it really did feel like, oh great. This is how things are going to work. And the Packers are going to get shoot themselves in the foot. So.

Speaker: yeah the only other Yeah. thing i The only other one I have is a minor coaching thing for Ganon. Maybe don't call out call the Jailbreak Blitz when it's like third and potentially ballgame. And I know that like, but you know, and and people were kind of getting on CSA for like not being as tight up on the coverage and stuff. But i was like, I think he played it right where it's like, you have to play it soft in that...

Speaker: in that situation where you can't let um Macmillan potentially run by you or get position on you for a jump ball in ah in ah in a duck and chuck kind of situation for Bryce Young.

Speaker: And so um it was one of those where I was kind of shocked that no one dropped out of that play because I was like, we're showing eight... And I thought one or two guys were dropping out of it, and we actually brought seven or whatever it was kind of thing. So it was one of those where it was like, maybe discretion would have been the better part of valor there. But yeah, like like I said, it's a minor, minor thing. I do like that we're being aggressive and we're we're going, we're...

Speaker: we're were being that kind of aggressive with our game planning, but it was one of those like, ah, like where the game was, like you didn't have to be so aggressive in that moment kind of thing and stuff. So that's my last one. Otherwise we can move on to moldy if you're ready.

Speaker: These plays stink like moldy cheese.

Speaker: So um do you want to go first do you want me to go first? I'll first. Because of got a long rant that continues from previous rants. So my one moldy play is Jordan's interception.

Speaker: And it kind of goes into some of the stuff we talked on earlier. So I saw a lot of people, like, I think because of what it would have meant to the game if he um didn didn't throw the interception, especially if they got a touchdown there and stuff.

Speaker: But, ah you know, the game is basically over-over at that point if you score a touchdown there. So first off, to people saying, like, why is he throwing it there? The play is intended to go there. that That play is fully intended to hit Golden on that seam slot fade or tight condensed formation fade route.

Speaker: ah You know, everyone's screen grabbing that um Watson was wide open at the sticks and like, you know, should have thrown it there. was that ball was going to golden 100%, like unless something horrible went wrong and he had to dump it fast kind of thing.

Speaker: It's a bad throw. it's and It's a good read, moves the safety. The rookie is a key Wheatley out of the middle of the field. The problem is is that the throw is 10 yards short. He throws it like a yard short of the goal line.

Speaker: He needs it to be right inside the back line of the end zone. And I think what's factoring in here is I think... Love is like, I'm going to lay this one up, make it a relative, you know, he's cooked the corner bad on this play.

Speaker: I'm going to lay this one up so he doesn't have to worry about his feet. He only has to concern himself with making the reception and, you know, falling down in the end zone and it's a touchdown kind of thing.

Speaker: And because Jordan, like, lays the ball in instead of either, you know, juicing it in with a little more zip or throwing it towards the back of the end zone where it's incomplete or touchdown, he leaves it up for grabs and it's an interception. And, like, it's it's one of those, like, it's one really bad play on Jordan's part, but it does not diminish the rest of his game where he was really lights out for the outside of a one other throw to Sabian up the seam. So that's my moldy for the week.

Speaker: And I agree. It was a bad throw all all around. And yeah, you know, the decision-making there. And that's something that we're going to be with dealing with Jordan no matter what.

Speaker: Because that's just always been the type of player Jordan has is he has that gunslinger mentality that he's just going to throw it out there. You don't get the Tucker touchdown for their first score without that mentality. So, like, for all the people that are like, oh, like, what? I'm like, okay, like,

Speaker: You don't get 7-3 without that mentality kind of thing. And it's like, just threw the wrong ball there. Like, it it happens. You throw the ball 41 times, you're going to have some misfires. And unfortunately, it costs them literally costs them points there.

Speaker: So this one has been brought up by us multiple frigging times, and it probably will until something different happens.

Speaker: The decision-making prior to the game. And this isn't a Caleb Johnson thing, even though that it should be a Caleb Johnson thing. I kind of called this in our preview.

Speaker: yeah And the decision still boggles my mind. it didn't hurt them as bad as it could have, but I still think it hindered a lot of what happened in the run game. And that's...

Speaker: line aaron banks at left guard lincoln tomlinson at w right guard we knew john williams was going to be centered because the other two guys they iard uh uh monk and obviously ryan wasn't up to par so they just flat out said ryan is out three to four weeks kind of thing yeah yeah so i i understand that and maybe you want you know williams did You know, look pretty good last ah the week prior when forced to come in.

Speaker: So maybe you didn't want to thrust the rookie into yeah action unless you had to. Yeah. Yeah. In the short week situation, it would just been really hard. Yeah. But you have the walking injury in Aaron Banks starting.

Speaker: You have a guy who has, I think they said he's only played ah one time at right guard in his career. And I think it was in his second year or something like that. it's it's It's been like thousands of snaps.

Speaker: And you've you've signed a guy in in Zeitler that didn't even see playing time except for on field goal attempts or on PATs.

Speaker: It just, I, it's like, they don't want to fix their run game because you don't fix it by flip-flopping your, your, Oh, line like that. I get, you've got a ton of money sucked into Aaron banks, so you don't want him riding pine, but in him, you have no idea what's going on because of his constant injuries.

Speaker: Tomlinson has been playing relatively well as your left guard. Leave him in there and let Zeitler play his natural position of right guard. I'm still confused at what's going on with that.

Speaker: If he wasn't ready to play, why did you even bother to sign him in the first place? And I just, I don't get it. and Like I said, it's like they don't want to fix their O-line issues.

Speaker: And it, I, it's really weird. And whoever's making these decisions, whether it's a mat lift floor is making them straightforward that he's dictatoring it, or he's relying on his coordinators and, and coaches to tell him who needs to play where I don't know, but luckily it hasn't gotten Jordan killed yet, but on the flip side, it hasn't done anything for your run game.

Speaker: Yeah. Like you said, the rant is more than this deserves because I don't even know what else to say to this. Because, like, we joked that it would happen and hoped that it wouldn't happen, and it did happen. So i I don't know how much more energy, whatever, to put into this.

Speaker: But it is just one of those where it's like, like you said, like, if Zeitlinh

Speaker: but just sucks. Like, because that's the only explanation I've got for why he's not playing is because he's not on the injury report, so he's not injured.

Speaker: And like... So if it's not that, then why else is he not playing? So like, if he just absolutely sucks, how is he... Why are you expecting him to get better?

Speaker: You know i mean? Like, there's... I just don't understand why you're keeping him around... or why you're just you're constantly choosing not to play. It weirdly feels like the John Runyon Jr. situation where they for like they found out John Runyon Jr. was like a so capable starting player in 2020, and then every year after,

Speaker: They were like, we're going to start Royce Newman over him damned hell or high water kind of thing. And then in the only year it was understandable was 2023 because it was like, okay, John is a free agent and we probably aren't bringing him back. So like, we got to see if um Sean Ryan can...

Speaker: I'm sorry, the end of this Cardinals-Cowboys game, my mom is, my mom just went from dropping the her equivalent of an F-bomb to laughing because the Cardinals just missed what should have been the game-winning PAT.

Speaker: So that game's going to overtime. I'm sorry, this is a comical Sunday, and like I said, I'm just glad we get to enjoy it because the Packers took care of business already. But, um... Back to the pictures. Yeah, like like you said, i have no idea what they're doing. like I'm not going to pretend to understand to know what they're doing, but my thing with Zeitler is, like you said, i just don't understand...

Speaker: and It would be one thing if he came out and was like, I need more time. i need more time. But your coaches keep saying he's ready if we need him.

Speaker: Which I guess you could say it's coach speak for he's not ready yet. And yes, he's our age or he's like my age kind of thing. And he didn't have a preseason. And I know he had that quad like operation or whatever kind of thing. So I guess, but it's like, he's not on the injury report. And that's the thing is like, if he was truly rehabbing his way back from that quad, he would should have been listed like all the PUP guys have been listed. And I, I know he didn't come off PUP for the Packers, but it's like, he should have been like,

Speaker: leg offseason you know rehab offseason leg procedure kind of thing like you guys do that for your own players i have no idea why you're not doing that for zeitler but and that's what i mean if if he wasn't fully ready to go why did you even give him eight million to come in Right. Because it it just, it doesn't make, I get you have to give them a couple of weeks to learn the playbook, to learn the calls and get into a little bit of playing shape. But now we're what a little over a month since they've signed him.

Speaker: And he's a guard. And like, to me, that's where it gets even stupider because it's like, he's a guard. And so like the pass protections are like, we call this, you're looking right. We call this, you're looking left.

Speaker: You and Belton figure out how you're going to call studs kind of thing and stuff. And like, that's it. The run game, sure, it's a little more complicated, but it's like, if we're running zone run to the right, you're blocking to the right. If we're running zone block to the left, you're running to the left. If we're running duo, you're duoing with Belton on plays to the right.

Speaker: Or, like, like they this isn't freaking rocket science. Like... I agree. Like, there's a point where O-linemen need to be smart. I'm not discrediting that. They absolutely do need to be intelligent. But you've got a guy who's played over 10,000 snaps in the NFL, and you can't tell me at this point that a month in, he hasn't figured out what our playbook is.

Speaker: ah Like... So I agree. Like, this just feels like one of those... They're waiting for the... They're waiting for stupid, stupid to happen. They're doing stupid.

Speaker: They're daring stupid, stupid to happen. But they're not going to play Zeitler to in until either catastrophic injury number 12 happens to this O-line. Or stupid, stupid, stupid happens. And they can't defend stupid, stupid, stupid from, like... And...

Speaker: I just get the feeling. yeah My whole point is, is they want to fix the run game. They want to have the run game. Well, you know, you have Packer fans clamoring. Oh yeah, we should sell out for Jonathan Taylor. We should sell out for Jonathan Taylor.

Speaker: Jonathan Taylor is not going to do you any good. If you can't get your line figured out and your line's are not going to get figured out by so flopping guys to positions that they've never played for and played in their career.

Speaker: And that's the thing. And, like, I gave them grace on the Glover thing, but it was, like, once the Dallas game happened, that should have been the plug pull because it's, like, he started struggling. And then he struggled against against Detroit, and it kind of – it costs you points in that Detroit game because he's the one who screws up the pass protection on the first play – on the first drive and makes you kick the field goal that gets missed. Like – it It's just this constant willingness to live with to live with the hope for mediocrity when, like I said, unless you're telling me Zeitler is awful, which, why are you keeping him?

Speaker: Like, why are you keeping him? Why are you giving him the tight end snaps in practice and all that kind of shit? Like... To me, if Zeitler doesn't start in New England, he should be released to go and do better things with his life. Because to me, you're you're wasting the team's time, you're wasting his time, and you're wasting fans' time. Because it's like, why make your fans believe that there's some sort of hope at the end of the tunnel if that tunnel is never going to beed you know is never goingnna be crossed?

Speaker: like just whatever just Yeah. And, you know, just to give my other rant, you know, ah Caleb Johnson, why is he getting treated the shitty as he is? So hopefully, you know, with things that are looking.

Speaker: the The way things are looking and the possibility that they're going to need a running game soon without Josh Jacobs, you know you might want to start giving him. And LeFleur was finally asked a little bit in one of his press conferences, you know what does Caleb Johnson have to do?

Speaker: I am pissed. I absolutely pissed at him about that answer. um Please, like sorry. oh Fill in the rest of what his the question and the response was. He was just asked what would Caleb Johnson have to do to get back into good graces and He just gave like a non answer like oh well, you know, he just needs to ah continue to work on this and um You know reads and and ball security and and that's that's a pro and

Speaker: Yeah, the one I'm thinking of is where he had the gall to say he is not contributing in as many things as Lloyd and Strong are. I'm sorry, what is the one thing that you and I have talked about with the whole Bisaccia saga was like, you bring in these guys who can't play a lick at their listed position, but also are shit on special teams.

Speaker: Like, you have copy—between Strong and Lloyd, you have copies of the same player because both of them suck shit at running between the tackles. They're god-awful at running between the tackles because neither is willing to take what the defense has given to them on a down-to-down basis.

Speaker: Yes, maybe Caleb isn't the dynamic pass receiver, not as good in pass protection, whatever. If that's the case, if that's truly your determining factor, he is still the best running back out of the three of them.

Speaker: And in the name of what their position is, you need the running back to do running back things first and foremost. Lloyd hasn't done shit with that opportunity all season. In fact, he's cost the team more than he has given them as a running back. And Strong has been a good player in space and has made some nice blitz pickups.

Speaker: But he has been also shit. and And that was always my concern with him is like his college highlights, you know, he has like, he averaged like five and a half yards per carry at South Dakota State and stuff. But all his highlights are on outside toss sweeps and like throwing him the ball in space and stuff.

Speaker: Like 5% of his highlights are actually like running an inside zone or a dive play that he turns into like positive, positive yards and stuff. I know that like we have group chat and Chavinck jokes about, oh, is he too slow to get to the line and behind this O-line? But like, he's still the one with the best explosive run out of the healthy running backs.

Speaker: like Like, maybe he is the slowest to the line of scrimmage, but he's still the one that's like, well... I got here, I'm gonna try and get three yards out of this kind of thing. Like, he's not gonna try and bounce it.

Speaker: Like, Bill Huber has that whole segment where he's like, this isn't USC, that's not Nevada, what are you doing about, you know, with Marshawn Lloyd and like... ah And like I said... LeFleur, again, that is one where you deserve all the crap for like making that comment. Like you said, I don't make too much out of his post-game, pre-game pressers and all that kind of shit because he's coach-speak to the max. But like to come out and say, like oh, yeah, he's been inactive because he doesn't offer as much in the non-running back... Your running backs are shit! Like, like, to go up there and try and sell that as why?

Speaker: And then, like, I know he would say, like, oh, in the opportunities, you gave him one fucking run against the Cowboys, and it was blocked so bad that Jesus himself would not have gotten more yards than Johnson, and then he didn't touch the ball again in that game.

Speaker: So, like, LeFleur... get ah Get off your high horse. Get over your eagle. Especially if Jacobs is done toast-toed. For the Packers, you better get off and like just Lloyd is terrible.

Speaker: Strong ain't much better. Give Johnson a chance. Like that's it. The only thing I got to give Lloyd credit on is he has been successful in the past game. You know, when they've had to do dump offs to him, you know, he he is explosive. But yeah, he he can't. He's not very good between the tackles.

Speaker: you know he's always trying to bounce out he reminds me of how my high school would play football when i was there you know just handed to our quote-unquote star running back and then the star running back would not run north and south he'd run east to west and it's like okay whatever you know good for you you think he's the great and he's not so whatever But, uh, yeah, so ah to all those that are thinking, oh, well, we need to go out and sell out for Jonathan Taylor. I don't think anybody's running behind this line. i even said it. I don't think you could put prime Barry Sanders back there. And I don't think he'd have much success.

Speaker: The ultimate hope you're getting by, like, getting a Taylor or even, like, a Tony Pollard is, like, in the event. Because, like, that's the thing is, like, this O-line is getting, like, one out of every four run plays blocked well. And Mike Wall has been doing a great job showing that. But every time they do Lloyd and Strong or even Jacobs are like, I don't want to run there. And it's, like...

Speaker: can't get daylight with this O-line 70% of the time, and the one time they give you a sliver of it, you're like, nah, I'm not gonna run there. And it's like, I don't trust Johnson to do, you know, like, I don't think Johnson's gonna run for an 80-yard touchdown or make the, like, acrobatic catch that, like, Jacobs almost did against, but he didn't against the Lions and stuff. So it's like, like, yeah.

Speaker: It's frustrating. Like I said, you I wouldn't be making this big a stink of it if LeFleur didn't make the comments he did about why Johnson... And I... it's one It's again one of those, like, he thinks he's the smartest guy in the room kind of situations. um like But I'm like, don't...

Speaker: Like, don't think that and then pull your your pants down and think that I don't know when you're showing your ass to us. Because you absolutely were in that moment and you don't think anyone's gonna call you out on it. And, like, I, and, the you know, and I'm not bashing on the beat reporters for not, that I, I know that their thing is like, okay, like,

Speaker: Like, they understand like, okay, you're just not playing because you don't want to. Okay, fine. Like, and and that's why they didn't, because they're like, if that's the answer we're getting on the first question, yeah. Like, no point in asking another one, because we're just going to get an even dumber answer than that, so.

Speaker: Other than that, I thought this game was reffed fine. Like, there wasn't any... Yeah. I got to thinking about that. i was going to put that as like an honorable mention fresh because it was like, we, everybody was so worried because they kept talking about how this, this officiating crew was like one of the most flag happy officiating crews. And then we get in the game and it's like hardly any calls.

Speaker: And I, and there were a couple of times that the Packers did get away with a couple of things so yes the you you can come back on us and say something like that but overall yeah this officiating crew is good so it's it completely stays out of moldy yeah the only like negative comment i had was like scott novak has like the world's longest time out signal because i was like i i thought like I thought something bad happened because his timeout signal took, like, the sun went down in Honolulu in the time it took him to to complete his, like, I think it was the two-minute warning call or something like that. And I was like, what is happening here?

Speaker: Like, like, because there's one of those I, like, looked away from the TV for a bit to like do to, like, do something around the house. And when I look back, I'm like, he is still in the middle of his timeout call and stuff. But...

Speaker: Like I said, otherwise, like it was a relatively nondescript um referee game. So, yeah, like so be it. But otherwise, I'm good on this game.

Speaker: it was i lost I have one more, and I kind of alluded to this with when we were talking to Josh Jacobs. Josh, you're probably no ah not long for this team anyway, so it's not going to affect anybody anyway.

Speaker: But you just come back from your a six-game suspension for, you know, what were, you know, domestic violence, whatever you want to call it.

Speaker: The thing not to do is celebrate a touchdown with a thing that makes it look like you're being handcuffed. Now, I understand he came out and said that, oh, well, I was just, you know, my favorite spiritual hymn is Break the Chains or whatever it's called.

Speaker: That's not what it looked like. It looked like you were being handcuffed. And that's not, no. So I'm putting that in the moldy. That's one of those is PR and Packer's PR and his lawyers are like, ah, like, yeah.

Speaker: don't do that so yeah yeah like so i i have to throw that out there because i i thought that was poor taste i i i called it out on twitter and yeah yeah i understand that you quote unquote were trying to represent a hymn that you really love but that's not what it looked like that's not what it seemed like so yeah

Speaker: Yep, but otherwise, that's all I got for this one. Anything else or you want to put a bow on it? I think we pretty much nailed everything that needed to be nailed. Yep, so um stay tuned. We'll be back on Thursday with our opponent preview. The Packers are going to head to New England. Speaker: It's Brady's return to to to Foxborough and all that kind of crap. And I'm like, he already came back and played with the Bucks. Like, it's such a dumb... It's such an annoyingly obnoxious promotion and all that kind of stuff. But um suffice it to say, we'll have the opponent preview.
