No Time to Lick Their Wounds | Packers vs. Panthers Week 8 Preview

Transcript

Speaker: Aloha and welcome back to ah another episode of the Ohana Packers Edition podcast. We continue on with our opponent previews. We are on to week eight. um The Packers look to get back in the win column and stay above 500 and keep pace with the rest of the division because as a result of losing to the Lions on Sunday, blowing that game, they are now, they find themselves now in fourth place in the division and they have to climb out of that hole and to do that, they've got to get back to their winning ways. So it starts on Thursday.

Speaker: Once again, Thursday night football for the second time in five weeks. And it once again feels like fake football because we have no practices or so we have ah projections of practices, walkthrough practices, um guys that aren't participating and stuff. So who knows what's going to happen on Thursday, Joe? But don't want to say that's the fun of it, but that's what we're here to talk about tonight, I guess, in short.

Speaker: Yeah, for sure. Who knows? it i always hated Thursday night games. i I don't know why they think they're so grand and all that stuff, but you know, it is what it is and the league's going to do what the league's going to do. And, and yeah,

Speaker: Yeah, who knows? But yeah, because it not just doesn't make it harder for on like content creators like us, but, you know, it just makes life harder on everybody. Players, coaches, you know, ah fans.

Speaker: Because like, even if i if we weren't doing this podcast, trying to watch the game for me is hard because the game is going to on while I'm at work. So, yeah, it's it's a pain, but what are you going do?

Speaker: Yep, it is what it is, and the Packers are coming into this pretty wounded... um you know We kind of talked about it ahead of the week three game where this is one of those survive in advance situations where no one's healthy, no one's feeling good.

Speaker: And you just got to go figure out how to make it how to make the donuts on Thursday night and get this win. Because like I said, you cannot afford to fall behind another game on the rest of the division when, well, you head to head with the Lions. But I guess, well, hypothetically, one of the Lions and Vikings are going to lose this week because they play each other.

Speaker: can't remember who the Bears play or if they're on a bye, but you just absolutely cannot afford to fall further behind in this race. So it's absolutely paramount for the Packers to get a win. And it's extra key because this would be a conference win. You've already dropped three.

Speaker: So you only, you know, Just, yeah, in ah in a season where no one seems to want to lose games, you just can't drop any more of these, but won't belabor that point anymore. As I alluded to earlier, the Packers are just as expected by this point of the season. and you're You're entering that middle section where everyone is kind of dealing with injuries and all that kind of crap.

Speaker: Packers are no different from any other team. So DNPs through Tuesday, so you know they've had quote unquote two practices to this point. So on Monday, you had...

Speaker: Six projected DNPs in defensive tackle Anthony Campbell, linebacker Zaire Franklin, who LaFleur ruled out in his press conference on Tuesday. ah Travis Glover was a DNP on Monday. holden Just on that for a moment, I think they said he's got like a hairline fracture in his shin. Right. And so...

Speaker: You know, i I've heard different things. Like, my brother has told me it like, depends where the fracture is in the leg because there's... I forget exactly what portion of the the leg where certain points, it's a matter of, yeah, you cannot... You absolutely cannot play football on it. And others, it's like, yeah, most of these guys probably do have one and it's a matter of pain tolerance at that point kind of thing. So...

Speaker: um Remains to be seen exactly what they're dealing with, but Zaire is out for Week 8. They're hoping to get him back sooner than later, but they're probably going to be without him.

Speaker: They haven't put him on IR, but it's more than likely he's going to miss 3-4 games, not like just these two games, but we'll see. Travis Glover was a DNP on Monday. Golden was a DNP. Sean Ryan is going to get put on IR if he...

Speaker: isn't already no no no he's not they're holding on to him monk got put on ir sorry monk got put on ir back and makai beckton got signed to the active roster um ben st juist was a full participant and davante wyatt was a dnp and then today's practice quote unquote it was a walkthrough so again participation estimation um Banks was again a limited participant. Campbell was a limited participant.

Speaker: Not great. Brenton Cox was downgraded from not listed to a limited participant with a quad injury. um Again, Franklin is out. Glover was again a DNP. The big one to note is Matthew Golden was a DNP. That's what it was with Sean Ryan.

Speaker: He's not on IR, but they basically ruled him out for four weeks because he hasn't ah he's been diagnosed with a high ankle sprain. So... Ben St. Juice was again a full participant on Tuesday, and Wyatt did participate, was a projected limited participant on Tuesday. So good news on a couple areas, not great news on Cox, and the big one here is not the uncertainty around Golden.

Speaker: Now, who knows with how LeFleur handles his press conferences and stuff. He kind of came out with a, we're hopeful he'll be there. i get the feeling that if he's saying that,

Speaker: He's close to fifty fifty because if he was at all closer to in doubt, they probably would just say like on the short week, there's no way he's going to be able to play kind of thing. I know there's some coach speak in there, but given how he's kind of handled similar situations in the past, they would have just said Matt's not playing on on Thursday and stuff. but Now, I don't know which player it was.

Speaker: because I didn't pay that much close attention to the press conference, but I've been watching the press conference just so I can, and somebody, I think it was Huber, finally asked the question I wanted him to ask, but ah ah he's while I was listening to it, he said something about, or he was asked about an injury, and I didn't hear the player, and he said it didn't pop up, or he didn't hear about it, or it didn't pop up until Monday morning.

Speaker: So that could have been the Matthew golden thing. Cause I'm pretty sure everybody, you know, like, uh, Devante, I figure I'll play because he went back in during the game. So he continued to play,

Speaker: ah you know, Anthony Campbell, I think is going to just continue to be going through that anyway. So could it just be Matthew golden was, you know, it didn't pop up till Monday, so they don't really know what, what they're going to do with him.

Speaker: Absolutely could be like, you know, and and as we've discussed ad nauseum in the past, it truly is a who the hell knows with LeFleur on his hum his press conferences because it's so hard to tell if he's BSing, if he's coach speaking, or if he's having a moment of clairvoyance and being relatively honest with you. So...

Speaker: Go figure. Like, I wish I had something better to say than that, but it truly is a matter of go figure. Like, they'll... Team is going to do what the team wants to do and stuff, so we we shall see when we cross that bridge. But,

Speaker: um yeah. And on the flip side of it, um the big news for the Panthers is they put their starting right tackle, Taylor Moton, on IR.

Speaker: It's been a rough season for Motan. He was late to start the season because um he had he developed blood clots. They got that under control. and Kind of ironically with Zaire dealing with a fracture in his leg, um Moton broke his leg. So, or he has a worse fracture in his leg than Zaire has. So he's, I can't remember if they said he's done for the season, but he is absolutely on IR. So the Panthers will be out him without him. um I'll just go over how their participation looks on Tuesday. So D-tackle Bobby Brown, wide receiver Jalen Coker, and quarterback Bryce Young were full participants.

Speaker: um Young is listed with a knee. I'm not sure the extent of that, but he was a full participant, quote-unquote, on both days. um And then DNPs, quarterback Caleb Evans, guard Damian Lewis, like ah edge rusher Jalen Phillips, and O-lineman Torricelli Simpkins III.

Speaker: a hum The big name there is Jalen Phillips, who is their top edge rusher. He was their big free agent signing. um They're already down. Nick Skartin, who tore his ACL in the preseason. And there was one more. I think it was their rookie or something who injured himself and is out for the season as well. So... um For a Packers line that is going to be shuffled once more due to the aforementioned Sean Ryan injury, the um uncertainty around Travis Glover, there's going to be shuffling.

Speaker: Joe, I'll put this out there right now. I get the feeling that Williams is going to start at center. I think they'd prefer that Burton would be the starter, but because of the short week, I think that's too much of an ask to put Burton in on short notice when he hadn't been active in a couple weeks.

Speaker: And then... Not that they're the same situation, but like, it's very similar how it's like, you're coming off like a rough road game and then you're like, put the rookie into a new position kind of thing and stuff. So like, I just think you stick with Williams who had success for the most part on Sunday.

Speaker: And you just, like I said, you just duct tape and rubber cement this thing through Thursday. And then you figure it out on the mini buy after after that to see what they do with the starting low line.

Speaker: I don't think Becton... So before you get any more points out there, I want i want to go back to a couple. So the Bryce Young thing, he's been listed with a knee since week five or week four.

Speaker: So, but he's been full participant since then. So that's an ongoing thing for him. He must've tweaked it somehow or some way. The other thing that I want to talk about is what you just talked about with, you know, Williams possibly starting at center, whatever.

Speaker: oh you know, this honestly would probably be the game that I would give Burton a look at center just, and then you could go to go, uh, go to Williams if things happen, because I've said it before now, and I'll i'll keep saying it.

Speaker: some A lot of these guys that they draft, they do...

Speaker: they They put them in the same situations. So when they drafted Elton Jenkins, they re-signed Lane Taylor, and Lane Taylor got injured, Elton Jenkins went in, and he took the job and ran away with it.

Speaker: Uh...

Speaker: uh what was the other one that i just had in my head uh

Speaker: god i just had the other one in my head now i can't think of it again but you know they pretty much go right in after you know they somebody gets injured this one takes over you know he's the heir apparent anyway so he takes over And Carolina's, and it's going to bug me that I can't think of that other example I was just coming up that i had. that There was a Elton.

Speaker: Then there was,

Speaker: was it Zach Tom? No, because they had to bounce Zach Tom. although I don't know. I'll come up with a later. But as far as I know, the Panthers' defense is not great.

Speaker: You're muted. um Corey Lindsley going like way farther back, but Corey Lindsley because Treader was there and was probably supposed to start at center.

Speaker: That one's a little bit rough because they were both within like a year or the same year yeah of getting drafted. No, there's one more recent that outside of Elton that I just for some reason I completely spaced on.

Speaker: But ah yeah, the Panthers defense I don't think has been... oh very, very good. So this would be one of those that, hey, let's try Burton, and if he if he sucks on the first drive, then we're going to throw ah Williams back in there because we know at least he held up.

Speaker: So, yeah, I think that's what, that's the situation I would be looking at. But i think with the way they've been... I was just going to say, but with the way they've been making decisions on actives, inactives, starting rotations and stuff, I i have no fucking clue.

Speaker: Yeah, and and for people that are going ask, like, why wasn't Burton active this week? It's because Monk was the center, too. And, like, just in typical Packers luck, you lose your center one and center two within, like, seven snaps of each other, which is just...

Speaker: extremely absurd Ryan got injured because Jacobs went right up his leg like like I saw those I saw that waiting for Jalen's basketball game to start and i was like are you serious like you seriously had to cut right up the back of his leg kind of thing but um yeah like I I do agree with you like I said I think if it was a normal week they would want Burton to start because, and this is kind of to go back on the crap they said about Morgan last year, where it was like, oh yeah, Morgan played better than um Rashid did and he was healthier, but we need Morgan to play back up to more spots kind of thing. And it's not eye for eye the same kind of thing, but it's it's similar where it's like, Williams is like your top tackle backup and your top healthy back tackle backup right now.

Speaker: Whereas Burton, I don't think they want him playing guard right now after how week three went and stuff like that. And you have all these veterans who are on the roster anyway. So um we'll see what they decide to do with the lineup.

Speaker: Just stop dicking around. I did see Zach Jacobson make the joke that it's like, everyone's thinking that, oh, Travis Glover mispracticed, blah, blah, blah. And that Zeitler's gonna start. Oh, wait, here comes Donovan Jennings. I was like, God, they would, but they would totally do that, which, like, you might have to drive overnight to Green Bay if that happens, but, um... You might have to call out of work early. and Yeah, I don't know. that it's If they do, after what he put up and why they had to panic sign three different guys.

Speaker: But the other hand, what I got to thinking and is they just signed Becton to the active roster. And I just...

Speaker: I don't know. I think they're screwing around too much and and some things are going to happen and and we'll get into it a little bit later when we do the over-unders, but I just... yeah. um yeah I see people that are like, just want you all to remember.

Speaker: So Becton is coming off of shoulder surgery, so he's in a very similar position to what... um what's it called, what Zeitler was in, where he like he didn't have a training, he wasn't on a roster, he didn't have a training camp.

Speaker: This has been his ram you know his his conditioning and ramp-up period, similar to Zeitler's. He is younger, but also, he was horrible last season. Everyone points to 2024, and what I keep saying is,

Speaker: Last year is more similar to the situation he's in this year where it's not a great O-line coach situation. It's not a good O-line room situation. Whereas in 2024, when he was on the Super Bowl champs, it's like you're on an O-line with three all pros, the best O-line coach in the league and a running game that was going to make you right nine times out of 10.

Speaker: can't run the ball in Green Bay and and and I see people saying like, oh, he can play tackle. I'm like, he hasn't played tackle in three years. And when he was with the Chargers last season, he couldn't move. like he Like maybe his shoulder was messed up, but his footwork was all screwed up in LA last season. So I don't want to get stuck on that point too long. If anyone's going to start, it should be Zeitler. But like you alluded to, Joe, I'm done guessing at this point because who the hell knows?

Speaker: To your Becton point, though, he is younger. So his recovery should be a little bit quicker, quote unquote quicker. But the thing that all that also throws me off is he's also...

Speaker: a lot bigger than Zeitler, and that's kind of what LeFleur's been wanting on and on his offensive line. And I'm sure that if something happens to Belton, then ah you're going see Becton take over the right tackle spot.

Speaker: And I think that's part of the reason why they signed Becton was that if, if Belton shits the bed or if Belton gets hurt, then Becton's going to take over. But then I could also see them with the issues with the Packers have been having with the run game, throwing your big beefy guy out there at guard and, and letting him go. So I just, yeah, again, it's all a guessing game at this point. Now,

Speaker: LeFleur did say something that they asked him about Zeitler and he just said that you know he's he's working hard to get out there and we'll see what happens on Thursday.

Speaker: Yep. And I just throw my hands up because I'm done guessing. I don't know. so Although the one thing that and yeah this goes because we are on the injury report. He was asked about Micah And instead of saying no, he said, I hope so.

Speaker: And as everybody in the room pointed out, that's more of an answer than they've been getting for the last few weeks. Yeah. so and And it wasn't like a deflated or like irritated, I hope so. It was like a upbeat, like looking like looking forward to it kind of thing. And like...

Speaker: Yeah, it wasn't the negative, like, we've heard so many different things and we don't know what he's doing. It was more of like, ah yeah, we're hoping, like, the team is excited and hoping that he'll be back soon kind of thing and stuff. But I tweeted it to, like, just remember, Mike has been steadfast that he's going to use more, not less of the 21-day window to ramp up.

Speaker: window to ramp up So even if he practices this week coming off the mini-buy, don't expect him to suit up against the Patriots. Like, the the timetable is not quite there yet.

Speaker: But

Speaker: all that aside, we're out of the injury report, and let's move on to the matchup. So the Panthers offense, um as we noted, they're going to have a new— I shouldn't say new because I think he started week one or whatever when Moton was out to start the season.

Speaker: But um on the O-line, so old friend or frenemy, Rasheed Walker is the starting left tackle. um They may have a different left guard because Damian Lewis has been out of practice the first two days this week. center Luke Fortner, right guard Robert Hunt, and then Monroe Freeling um from Georgia will be at right tackle. um He is their first round pick ah from this draft. um One of the one of the like high upside, kind of low floor guys because he's like young and doesn't didn't have a lot of college starts and there were some holes in his game. but

Speaker: um I just want to do settle on the O-line. It is kind of funny seeing, um, it is kind of funny seeing Rasheed Walker because everyone for the first couple weeks was like, oh my God, he's got like a really good, um, PFF grade, blah, blah, blah, and all that kind of stuff.

Speaker: And Morgan's not been great or anything, but it's pretty much evened out at this point. Like Rasheed Walker has the last few weeks been the Rasheed Walker he was at the end of last season. So, For all the people that were like, oh, they kept the wrong guy kind of thing. Like, no, this isn't me saying that Morgan is working out or anything. Like, he has been disappointing and frustrating. But what I will say is on the topic of PFF grades, the fact that he's like just below average, I think he's at like a 58 or something like that in his pass protection.

Speaker: That's pretty good given that he was like a 30-something earlier this season. So like, you know, it's just like your GPA. When you get a D, it takes a lot of classes to even that back out to a good GPA. Like, like...

Speaker: um It's so hard to get like a 3-3-3-6, but 1D or even a C can just drop your GPA by like half a point kind of thing. So, um you know, the run blocking is crap. Like I'm not going to sugarcoat it, but at least his pass pro has gotten better as the season. It's something to build off of, but um they need more.

Speaker: At the weapons, the big problem for the Packers is that the Panthers starting receivers are big. Like, Tett McMillan and Jalen Coker and Bryson Tremaine.

Speaker: I think Coker is the shortest at And then Tremaine and um McMillan are six both six four I say this more in relation to Nixon, who has been posted up a bunch this season. And um you started to see some of those cracks in the foundation against the Lions. Like, yes, he made the fourth down tackle and all that kind of stuff. But...

Speaker: More often than not, Goff was throwing to the right, and who was open on the right? It was whoever was against Nixon, and he missed some tackles too in coverage. So like, he's gotta, and you're gonna give up completions, you least gotta tackle. So he needs to clean that up.

Speaker: um Tommy Trimble and the resurgent, revitalized ah Darren Waller are the main hitters at the tight end room. And then Chuba Hubbard and Trevor E-chain.

Speaker: I never know if it's pronounced E-T-N or E-chain. No, it... Yeah, it's... Didn't... ah Travis say it was like hnn or something like that.

Speaker: And Trevor is his brother, right? So yeah, I think so. Yeah. So go figure. And then obviously Bryce Young still Once again, but especially this week against a walking wounded offensive line in the Panthers, the Packers front has to come to play.

Speaker: i don't know what they're going to do for game day elevations, especially if Campbell's more hobbled or Campbell and or Wyatt are more hobbled than, you know, than you want them to be.

Speaker: You know, the options are you you elevate Blair or Mozzie Smith um this week. Like I said, I would kind of do it because you really don't want to let Carolina just lean on the run game like Atlanta did in the last ah Thursday night game.

Speaker: I thought Green Bay held up pretty well against the Lions. And then it wasn't really until the game was like in the balance kind of thing that the dam kind of broke at the end and stuff. But um while Green Bay was like in contact and like in either in the lead or about to take the lead, they were not controlling Gibbs, but they weren't letting him get like explosives on the ground or anything like that. So...

Speaker: You gotta like where that's at. um Do need better play from McDuffie and Hopper, but McDuffie is gonna be what he is at this point. So, you know, if you're gonna get anything special, it's gotta to be from Hopper's side of the equation.

Speaker: um And then you need your safety room to carry the buck carry the load again because, um like i said... Whether it's, you know, kind of baiting Bryce into traffic throws or taking advantage of like when his height gets against him and he kind of just has to put the ball up in the air.

Speaker: You're going to need that support factor from um McKinney and Evan Williams. And then Bullard, you just need Bullard to continue to be Bullard, how good he's been this season. Yeah.

Speaker: It'll be really interesting to see if um what's What's the... Panthers coach's name? patther's coach's name um he's another um he's another offensive guru kind of thing and stuff. It'll be interesting to see if he tries to eliminate Lucas and Bullard from as many plays as... Yeah, Kanellis. Thank you.

Speaker: um It'll be interesting to see if he attempts to and is able to kind of negate Lucas and Bullard from as many plays as the Lions were able to in the majority of Sunday's game where...

Speaker: Whenever Lucas was on the perimeter, they were just completely running away for him or like putting like two tight ends to his side, so he was just totally outside of the play. And then with Bullard, they were just trying to do all kinds of things to misdirection him. And Bullard got his. you know He had the nice play on the jet on the jet sweep or the end around Amin Ra and stuff like that. but It wasn't that he had a bad game. It's just that Detroit did everything it could to limit his ability to impact the line of scrimmage and contribute to the run defense and stuff. So it'll be interesting to see if Carolina is able to do anything similar. Any of the matchups stand out to you or you want to move on to um our defense or their defense against our offense?

Speaker: I don't know. This might be a key matchup that wasn't even talked about. Do you know who one of their offensive assistants is?

Speaker: No. Dean Petsing, whose brother is the offensive coordinator of the Detroit Lions. Right. ah No, like I said, their offense... I can see Cissé covering Tet the whole game, which will leave... or For the majority of it, or whatever...

Speaker: of And of course that's going to leave Valentine. This might be a game. You see what St. Juice can do. Cause he's at least a little bit bigger of a, uh, uh, corner. Uh, so there's that.

Speaker: I mean, you can still throw Nixon out there if you really want to but i I would honestly see what, ah what saint juice could put up beings like you said they are taller receivers and i know what some of these people are going to say because we heard it during draft talk well if they're good enough they they can overcome that height advantage because that's all i kept hearing with the d'angelo ponchet but i just

Speaker: There's still something about size that matters on that stuff. And there's a reason that Goot does try to hunt a six-foot or above corner every once in a while. You know, like, I do think that was a big reason for picking Domani Jackson. I think that's why Cissé was relatively high on their board. that I know he's technically a shade under six foot, but, you know, he's close enough that you can list him as six foot tall kind of thing. So, um... Uh-oh.

Speaker: Mike's arrested. No, no, that one's an ambulance. Our police cars have the wooing, the the more woo sounding siren. But um what's it?

Speaker: Yeah, like.

Speaker: You don't want to just see Nixon get jump balled down the field, which has happened at times. And like I said, it's a little tougher for Bryce because he is a short quarterback. And so like he can't just easily see over the line of scrimmage and stuff.

Speaker: But if he gets in a rhythm, you don't want him just playing jump. You know, you don't want him just playing sky inning with his receivers over the top of um Nixon. And even to an extent over Cissé because like Tet is that kind of tall, physical wide receiver. So...

Speaker: It'll be a good learning experience for C.C. And like I said, for Nixon, just don't be a speed bump out there. So. Is there a chance that C.C. actually saw a little bit of McMillan in college?

Speaker: Because didn't he start at USC? No, that was Jackson. No, no. I mean, didn't C.C. start his college career at USC? No, no, no. um He started at NC State, I think. And then he went to... Well, no, that's where he... Oh, okay, yeah. I'd have to look at him, but... went NC State to South Carolina.

Speaker: So he did play at a USC. Okay. No, I just... For some reason, it stuck in my head that he started out at USC and then went to...

Speaker: ah To, yeah, NC State, but... Uh, no, I, I just, I, that's my feeling right now. Cissé is hot.

Speaker: You got to let him continue his push. And you know, like, like many have said, iron sharpens iron. So let, let him get to snaps and let him go against Cissé. But I think we can move to the next.

Speaker: Yup. So on the Panthers defense, Big one is that Derrick Brown looks healthy and really ready to play in this game. He's their kind of wrecker up front on the D line. Lee Hunter is a rookie who got some draft love from parts of the Packers um fan base.

Speaker: I still liked McClellan better than him, but um see he's their starting nose tackle. um Who knows if the Packers will be able to um make a move, you know, be able to...

Speaker: Get some movement up front on Hunter. Treshawn Wharton is the other starting defensive end. Excuse me, in their 3-4 look. The outside linebackers are um Jalen Phillips, who is uncertain status-wise for the game as he's missed the two practices. And I believe the word from Canales is like they're not positive on his ability to play in Thursday's game, or he would be heavily limited if he did play in Thursday's game. um The other outside starting outside linebacker is ah Patrick Jones, former Viking.

Speaker: Um, the guy who would start in Phillips place or play the snaps. If even if Phillips were to start and be limited is, uh, of my former draft crushes, uh, princely, um, man, um, man, Milan, uh, from Ole Miss. So this, I found this out watching friend of shows draft professors, uh, show the other day they were doing pass rushers.

Speaker: His brother's name is Prince will.

Speaker: What the hell's going on with that family? How do you name... That's like George Foreman naming all his kids George. I think think he's Nigerian. and like that If he is Nigerian, it's a very Nigerian thing to have.

Speaker: have Oh, I get that. But at least try to change it up just a little bit other than Prince Will and Prince Lee. it's a it's ah It's a cultural thing. um He's had a solid start to the season. He's got three sacks on the year. I'm not sure how he's doing on a game-to-game basis.

Speaker: um But, um you know, he's a guy with who had pass rush upside. The inside linebackers are Devin Lloyd, formerly of the Jaguars, and Bobby Okereke. think he used to be with the Vikings. He's been with a couple teams, but I think, like, the Giants he was with and stuff.

Speaker: But, um oh, Indianapolis. Was down in Arizona for a little bit, wasn't he? Or last year? No, the Giants. We saw him with the Giants last season. So I didn't realize he's been around that long. He's the 2019 pick. But anyway, so who knows if they'll be able to run the ball.

Speaker: They're starting. So big one for them is starting court and preferred starting corners. JC Horn and Mike Jackson are both on i r One other starting corner, a Caleb Evans, is uncertain to play because he also has missed both games or both practices this week. um Their other starting cornerback right now is um that's um another potential draft prospect for the Packers this year, Will Lee from Texas A&M.

Speaker: Old friend Robert Rochelle is um one of their reserve cornerbacks. um So a DB with size on the perimeter. And at safety, oh, this lineup just has a bunch of Mike former draft um draft crushes. Trevon Merig was drafted by the Raiders, has been with the Panthers, I believe. This is his second season there.

Speaker: um Nick Scott is the free safety. So, like, they've got some names in the secondary, but there's of... And then their rookie's Zaki Wheatley. Yep.

Speaker: Tyrone Wheatley's son. um But they've got they've got talent on this defense, but they're missing a lot because of the guys that are on IR or expected to miss this week.

Speaker: The Packers... And I don't know. Like, I'd like to say that... If you start Zeitler, you should be able to do some stuff on the ground, but with will you know and the uncertainty at center, um i don't I don't know. like i just You just hope that this isn't another game where Jordan's getting hit 10 times again, but that's sort of like the helter-skelter of playing a um ah playing a you know a um on the short week where you have you know limited reps and all that kind of stuff.

Speaker: I wonder if we'll see further expansion of Savion's role this week. you know he had ah ah he had a good game on Sunday, coming on routes out of the backfield, routes out of the slot. um In the event Golden isn't able to go, you'd like to hope that it's an increase in Savion and Stardivan snaps, but mentally prepare yourself for more bull-melting snaps. like That's just reality so long as he's on the roster.

Speaker: I wish it were another way, but... Matt's going to Matt. um Otherwise... And we don't know. That could be a situation where, you know, and it's happened before that he... Jordan Love really likes Bo Melton and says, I want to get snaps to him too. But yeah. Yeah.

Speaker: I do think the Packers should be able to make some plays. You know, you it's been a while since it happened, but this this defense has gotten... got Well, I mean, they just got smashed this past week by the Bucs, and that was with Baker just coming off an injury. So the Packers should be able to yeah have some success, but it is once again going to be all on this offensive line to get its shit together and figure things out. So...

Speaker: We'll see what happens, but um Joe, any other thoughts on the matchup?

Speaker: Uh... No, I was trying to look at something because I had the this word this horrible fear just a moment ago that I was trying to see if Zeitler had played center at all because I just had this wonder that, oh yeah, we're going to see Zeitler start, but it's going to be at center and then going Mekhi Becton playing guard or you're going to have Donovan Jennings playing guard or some crap like that. So, but in his whole career in the NFL, he has not played center. He's played guard.

Speaker: So, and I believe like all right guard, except for like a less than handful of snaps at left or something like that. All right. Well, that's the matchups. That's the, how, um, excuse me, how the Panthers line up.

Speaker: Take us away with your over-unders, buddy.

Speaker: I kind of struggled with these just because of how shitty the the Detroit game was. And so... Just leave such a bad taste in your mouth. with Like...

Speaker: I won't belabor this point too long, but, like, again, the big thing is, like, yeah you were you were struggling upstream so much in that game, and you had an opportunity to come out unscathed and be able to flip two birds at the NFL and the Lions, and you pissed it away. kind of So that, like, just makes those kind of losses that much harder to stomach and to swallow. so But we're forward-facing, just like the Packers. We're on to week eight.

Speaker: What have we got?

Speaker: I just thought of one that kind of is interesting. ah Just because of He's white. He's he's he's just Owen. oh over under Lucas Van Ness half a sack.

Speaker: ah Obviously, he's not had he's on kind of a dry spell, but I've seen people regressing to the, oh, well, Lucas Van Ness sucks and he's not doing... He's getting pressure and he's getting home. He's just... He's being game-planned for.

Speaker: Yep. He is being game-planned for like... like Put it this way, Gannon is like not 4 man pressuring, or they cannot 4 man pressure at all if Lucas is not on the field.

Speaker: like There is no consistency to their straight across 4 man rush if Lucas is not on the field. And you're absolutely right, when he is on the field, he is the one getting game plan for. And Gannon has tried to use that where he's dropping him a lot out of the 4 man front looks on passing downs. because He's trying to utilize the extra attention. Doesn't work quite as well as when like you drop Micah into coverage, but same idea.

Speaker: um And yeah, I do think he's due. like he I think more than anything, he is he's owed his for... you know he's He's put in the yeoman's work and has not been rewarded with the stats so far.

Speaker: So I took the over. I think he does get the one.

Speaker: ah You got officially put it on on record. It's over. Over. Okay. You know what? You know what Fuck it. I'm going to say he's going to get multiple. So let's go there. And if anybody could, i think it'd be him because he's got the motor to actually chase after Bryce. And I think he can.

Speaker: I think he could get Bryce. Not just the motor. He's the one with the athleticism to check track down Bryce. Yeah, total rushing yards, 75 and a half.

Speaker: So this is all rushing combined. So Jordan, Jacobs, and whoever else is there. I'm at the point where until it happens, I'm not going to believe it until I see it.

Speaker: I'm going to say the over just so I can be different. yeah We agree too much shit on this shit. ah Over under, Cissé, half interception. So basically, does he get one or does he not get one?

Speaker: I'm going to take the over. Like, i for a guy whose, like, big con coming out of college is he didn't have good ball skills. I was shocked that he put himself in position to, like, get to in so in to get an interception in back-to-back weeks.

Speaker: And, again, he should have had one because that that penalty on him was horseshit. Like, Amin Ra got rewarded for running into him.

Speaker: Pretty much. I agree. i'm As you can see right here, I'm going to ride with Cissé. So I'm going to say yes until he proves me otherwise.

Speaker: ah So this one, this is why I said we'll talk about this later. Because again, with the way the decision making has been happening lately, does Kevin Zeitler start?

Speaker: This isn't does he play, this is does he start? Yes, and i think I think they're at the point of there's enough injuries to the right people, i.e. monks on Glover is mispracticed the multiple practices this week, Jennings absolutely sucked ass when he played earlier this season.

Speaker: And then I think Becton was signed to the active roster to be the insurance. Like, I think Becton getting on the active roster speaks to Glover's injury situation, their lack of trust in Jennings moving forward, that they're like, all right, like, we're going to have, like you said, we're going to have beef and we're going to have veteran beef on the active roster come game day.

Speaker: I'm saying yes, but it's a timid yes just because, like I said, decision-making. Now that Aaron Banks is quote-unquote capable of playing...

Speaker: Vecton's been signed to the active roster. I could see the floor trying to do something goofy, like putting ah Banks at left guard, Tomlinson at right guard, at or something of the lines. And I just, ah these decisions are really driving me nuts. But Savion Williams over under half a touchdown. So does he get one or does he not get one? I'm going under just again so I can be different.

Speaker: I'm going over. Maybe we should switch. You're the one who's been more lucky with these ones when I'm the one that says no. All right. So this one I threw on there. Which means that this one is going to happen because we're in that configuration. Yeah.

Speaker: um This one I put on there because Mike was talking about Golden popping up on the injury report. We don't know the situation. We don't know what's going on.

Speaker: He has been active. he has been playing because he has been serving as the punt returner. col Coleman Owen. i don't know if it's Owen or Owens.

Speaker: It's Owen. That's how little how little I know about him. Over under half a catch for him, Coleman. So either he gets one or he gets none.

Speaker: I got none. I'm going to give him one because I do have a feeling that if if Golden is limited in any way, then... And they...

Speaker: do decide to throw an extra one out there for some reason, I could see them throwing him out there as like a gadget slot type guy. And, you know, Jordan just hucks it at him.

Speaker: That's all I got. i can't think of anymore. I struggle coming up with these. Let's not struggle anymore tonight. um Like you said, coming off that dud of an outcome on Sunday and going into a Thursday night game that no one wants.

Speaker: Let's just put this one literally and figuratively to bed um I'm still undecided about whether I'll be able to go live after the game. um Thursday night is probably going to be our last minute Halloween in prep for the kids um so that we're not doing anything the day before Halloween. so Tell the people what ah what the theme costume is this year.

Speaker: So the kids are going to be, um um what's it called? Drinks of the 90s. So Kobe is going to be a um high C Tetra Pak box, pink lemonade flavor. Jalen going Oh, you didn't do the egg cooler.

Speaker: ah ah And Jalen is going to be that um cafeteria milk box that never opens on the top, despite it saying open here. so Who's going to be the squeezy?

Speaker: No, no ah we're so We're so against... like It's just been such a long year outside it. Family-wise and stuff that Marisol and I are like...

Speaker: She might throw a costume together for herself, but I'm like, I'm just there to chaperone. I don't need costume this year. I'm just like, two like last year we had the time and the energy and full like emotional and mental fortitude to make the full um Ninja Turtles gamut for all four of us.

Speaker: This year we're like, let's just get through the holiday. kids can have fun, but we're just mentally like looking past it already. Okay. I have one more question.

Speaker: And this is my hypothetical question. I was going to start doing this every week for our previews. You know, the famous Halloween video of far Frankie bag of donuts and BB showing up at home grand's house and home grin, not knowing who they are and almost getting in a fist fight with Don BB because BB's trying to force his way into the video or I mean into the house.

Speaker: From the current roster, who are the guys that you think should remake that video? Oh.

Speaker: Javon Bullard. but um Ironically, Keyshawn.

Speaker: And... but that's hard, because, like...

Speaker: Like... Frank Winters and Don Beebe are two, like, relatively average guys, that's why. So, like, you have to include that element. guess Coleman Owen, because i'm not i'm I'm not convinced half the roster knows who the fuck he is. ah um um Honestly, Evan Williams. Evan can, like... Like, Marisol and I make this joke all the time is, like...

Speaker: um If you passed blank on the street, would you no heat forget know Forget knowing exactly who he is. Would you know that he's a an athlete or a football player kind of thing? and like So Colby Owen absolutely falls in that category. I think Evan falls in that category.

Speaker: and oh

Speaker: You know what? If Sean Ryan puts his hair in like a ponytail or something, I think he would throw people off. So I was thinking about this because i asked a friend of mine, what the Green Bay guy on his stream tonight about the same thing.

Speaker: So you have to have somebody who is going to be the Don Beebe role who's going to cause all the shit and you know piss the coach off and everything. Who's the most awkward guy on the roster?

Speaker: They have a specific subtitle for him whenever he is on any other videos. Carrington Valentine. Because he makes Carrington noises.

Speaker: So, he would be your Don Beebe.

Speaker: He, the Green Bay guy said, obviously, you gotta to throw Jordan on there because it was a quarterback. I don't think he had to throw, because I don't think Jordan would be able to pull that off like a Favre did.

Speaker: So... Plus, Jordan has a baby. Yeah, but this was like the mid-90s. I think they all had kids too. Oh, no, I'm saying Jordan has like a baby. He has to take care of this Halloween, like like in that sense of thing.

Speaker: First Halloween and all that. Yeah. So I do agree with the Sean Ryan thing because I think he could easily dress up as like Nacho Libre or something like that and and pass as an everyday person because of it.

Speaker: And so those were the two that I thought of, but I struggled with the third one. It would have to be somebody a little bit charismatic, like a Favre was charismatic.

Speaker: Almost want Micah to be that guy. like Like, that kind of charismatic. You know what i mean? Like, like it... It's not this. Yeah. And I don't think it's like, it's the fact that it's far was the quarterback. Like you said, you're right. It's absolutely the, the, um, the, it's the, the carrot, the charisma that far have had that side of it. And like, I think that's where like a Michael or even like a Zaire.

Speaker: like Okay. I just thought of Tucker craft. There you go. Yeah. I think he would fill that role. So you got Tucker, Sean Ryan and and of Carrington.

Speaker: yeah So I think that could happen. I think they should redo it. Even if it's like a Packers films type thing. Something for the social media team. But that's going to do it for us tonight. um We hope you all on that note, we hope you all have a happy Halloween, a safe Halloween.

Speaker: um Just and if you have a family, make sure your kids have fun, but make sure they have a safe night. um Just the world has become a really stupid, and scary place for really unfortunate reasons. So just make sure that your kids are in a safe environment when they go trick or treating.

Speaker: um And on that note, go Pack Go and aloha!
