From Model to Movement: Sydney King on Mindset and Impact

S1 E23 · Voice of Growth - Mastering the Mind and Market
Avatar
11 Plays2 months ago

In this inspiring episode of the Voice of Growth, Manny Teran sits down with model and entrepreneur Sydney King to explore her journey of mindset, connection, and purpose. Sydney describes the challenge of being pulled between two worlds—what society expects of her, and what she feels called to create. She reflects on the power of patience (“the plant doesn’t grow the same day it’s planted”), the importance of embracing fate, and her ability to bring people together as a path to impact.

This conversation is about much more than entrepreneurship or modeling—it’s about the courage to live authentically, to accept what life brings, and to cultivate the seeds of growth that create lasting change. Listeners will walk away with a fresh perspective on how mindset, fate, and human connection shape both personal and professional success.

Introduction to Growth and Mindset

00:00:04
Speaker
The voice of growth, mastering the mind and market.
00:00:09
Speaker
It's all about mindset. You're kind of like pulled between two worlds. What do I want to do with my life? I've evolved to movement.
00:00:22
Speaker
One of my biggest gifts is connecting people. The plant doesn't grow the same day that it's planted. I wanted like to make a big impact. Whatever fate you have in front of you, embrace it.

Sydney King's Journey and Spiritual Awakening

00:00:40
Speaker
Oh my gosh, that's a hard one. Sydney King, model, entrepreneur, wellness, Maven, you've done a lot since I first started working with you.
00:00:55
Speaker
I've seen the evolution of you I guess when first started working together four years ago or so. Yes. And watching this perspective of you grow as a person, grow as a businesswoman, tell our audience a little bit about your journey.
00:01:09
Speaker
Awesome. Thank you so much for that introduction, Manny. I'm so happy to be here on your podcast. So my journey started in 2020. I had quite the spiritual awakening that year, as many others have, because, you know, obviously the pandemic and just like having all that isolation, you had a lot of time like for yourself.
00:01:27
Speaker
So I really sat and thought about like what I was doing at that time. I was doing door to door sales actually, home alarm sales. um So I already knew that like I wanted to be in control of the money that I made. Like I liked that it was commission based because I was in control of it. Plus they were like paying for me to travel and stuff. So it was definitely a good experience.
00:01:45
Speaker
I had already left school. I went to the U of A for a couple years. That's what brought me to Tucson. I wasn't just resonating with any of the majors and I just wanted to get out in there in the world and see what I could do.
00:01:56
Speaker
and just had this dream of becoming an entrepreneur.

Transition to Content Creation and Entrepreneurship

00:01:58
Speaker
So yeah, I was doing door-to-door sales, but obviously everything just stopped that year. And so I was like, what do I want to do with my life? Like, what is my passion? You know? Yeah.
00:02:10
Speaker
yeah Like I said, I had quite the spiritual awakening. So I started sharing my findings like on TikTok. I built my following up to like 30,000 followers. Like I had quite an audience and then I decided like, you know, I want to be a content creator.
00:02:23
Speaker
That's what I thought I wanted to be at that time. And I still do want to be that, but it's definitely like when a lot of detours, you know what I mean? um So I yeah So basically i was like, oh, I need high quality content.
00:02:37
Speaker
So that's what kind of led me to modeling. I was like looking for photographers. I actually a photographer landed in my lap. um And i just reached out to her or she reached out to me actually because she was looking for models to use for a lighting workshop because she just needed some practice.
00:02:52
Speaker
And so I went and like I remember like looking at my the photos from my of myself and I was like, really look like that? Like I was just like, oh my gosh. Like I fell in love with it. She made the experience very, very like Seamless, very enjoyable. her name is Alex Shika, so shout out to her.
00:03:09
Speaker
i was very, very grateful. And then from there, i just started expanding. I started actually promoting myself on like Facebook groups and Instagram. ah Facebook groups are still like a very great like resource, honestly. For sure. i really will always talk highly about that.
00:03:24
Speaker
um So then i some people in Phoenix were reaching out to me. So I ended up like driving back and forth to Phoenix and here like a lot. so I was doing that like, you know, five in the morning and spending all day there, sometimes spending the night there, coming back.
00:03:37
Speaker
um So in that whole journey, it actually led to like my first baby, my first business, my first company, you know, um that I still have today. So it was like I said, in 2020 and then like early 2021,
00:03:51
Speaker
was when I was doing the modeling. So I had quite a network out there and then building my network out here. And i you know, as many people can relate, like I was on go, go, go mode all the time and just not really giving myself rest or like giving myself like proper nutrition, like really taking care of my

Health Realizations and Sid Shakes

00:04:08
Speaker
health.
00:04:08
Speaker
I did grow up playing sports, but like when you're an adult, you have to figure it out yourself. Yeah, a little different. Yeah, definitely. like Rather than having a coach like telling you what to do and your parents and everything, it's like you got to figure out how you're going to take care of your health and like your metabolism changes and everything. so My metabolism is actually really fast, so I was losing a lot of weight because I was forgetting to eat.
00:04:29
Speaker
I was just, like I said, driving back and forth, just always on go, go, go mode. so like sometimes it would be like 2, 3 p.m. And i'm like, didn't even eat today, you know. And my parents were noticing that like, and all my loved ones were noticing that I thought was losing weight, that I was looking like kind of like,
00:04:44
Speaker
You know, like I was running out of energy and things like that. They're like, you need to pay attention to your health. Like, let's do this, you know? So I was like, okay. And I really did just look at myself and I'm just like, okay, what is something that I can have that's nutritious, but also delicious and something I could take on the go, something easy.
00:05:05
Speaker
And then i was like, maybe protein shakes, like, you know? And so, and I looked at everything that was on the market already. I already knew I wanted to be an entrepreneur. Obviously, like I was super like entrepreneurial. I didn't know this was gonna be on my business, but it was like something that I had used to help myself.
00:05:19
Speaker
And I feel like. That's a great thing. yeah I mean, you basically were your first customer. Yes. yeah And that's one of the things that you know I've seen in my career and studying business and being a business coach and doing all the things during a business is you really need to identify that unmet need or underserved need.
00:05:38
Speaker
And I think we're talking about sit shakes here, obviously. Yes. So tell us about what that is now and sort of the evolution of sit shakes from that first idea of I need something for myself.
00:05:51
Speaker
And now you actually have shifted slightly into what you're doing, but I want to hear all about it. Yeah, absolutely. So I launched Sid Shakes February of 2021. And the reason I did launch it was because yes, it helped me so much. I was able to, you know, gain, gain the weight that I needed. I was able to feel better daily.
00:06:11
Speaker
And I just felt like I was filling a gap that wasn't there, which was something that was healthy, but also like taste goods. mean, you can enjoy, like a lot of people don't enjoy like healthy foods or they feel like healthy food is bland, but it really can be nutritious like and delicious, like I said.

Creating a Wellness Movement

00:06:27
Speaker
So Sidshakes is my plant-based protein shake company that I've been able to help a lot of people, especially here in the Tucson community, very local, started doing pop-ups and started realizing that there was so many other people with so much other so many other needs other than just gaining weight. like you know There's people that needed to like pay attention to their sugar levels and like You know, so i was like, okay, I can't add, you know, no added sugar, you know what i mean? Like fit people's dietary needs.
00:06:54
Speaker
um There was people that just wanted, you know, inspiration to live a healthier lifestyle, but they didn't know where to start, you know? And so I felt like I could be that like assistance and that like inspiration for them. Right. So yeah, it's just, so it started out as just the shade company and now I've, I've evolved.
00:07:12
Speaker
Speaking can of evolve with Sid, I've evolved to a movement really for like wellness and like women empowerment and, mind, body, soul, you know, overall health, because your health isn't just one thing. You know, I started with nutrition, but I'm also now realizing how important your mental health is and your spiritual health and how they all work together.
00:07:37
Speaker
So now I host wellness events, wellness retreats. I collaborate with many different people in all types of different modalities of health here in town, whether it's cold plunging, whether it's breath work, whether it's yoga.
00:07:50
Speaker
There's so many different aspects. And I just am just falling in love with the journey of creating like this movement while also being able to provide you know plant-based nutrition to people in their lives.
00:08:03
Speaker
One of the things I really admire about you is... People out there can follow the big players on social media. There's lots of talk about cold plunges. There's the Andrew Hubermans of the world that are these thought leaders.
00:08:18
Speaker
But there's always a level of abstraction where they're they're a little bit far away, right? They're they're not reachable sometimes. that The idea, okay, how do i start start cold plunging? How do I start changing my diet? How do I start this and that?
00:08:31
Speaker
What I admire about you, Sydney, is that you actually put a line in the sand and you say, here I am. And you provide almost almost like a ah gateway for some of these people to enter into the wellness space. but You said mind, body, and spirit. I mean, that's very powerful.
00:08:46
Speaker
And I think that unified front really helps people to align with you. i mean, you're a very energetic person, you're approachable, and you know you have a magnetic energy about you. You always have people that are drawn to you. And I think since you have a message like that, super powerful.
00:09:01
Speaker
Thank you. That means a lot, honestly. And that's a great, good great way to say it, like a gateway, because another thing that I really noticed is like one of my biggest gifts is connecting people, like just connecting people because like they go off and do their own thing and like,
00:09:16
Speaker
how many people I've introduced to people. I think that's one of your gifts as well. Like great gift, because you've also connected me with many people. But like, I just feel like I know who's meant to be with who and who's going to gain value. And I just like connect them. And sometimes it's them connecting with me, but then it leads to like something else because it's like, you know, in your health journey, like you can get like super into yoga, for example, but then like,
00:09:42
Speaker
You know, you find something else and you discover, you know, herbs and you want to learn how to heal your body with herbs. And then you kind of go into that, you know, you just go into a bunch of different rabbit holes at different times. So and everyone's at a different stage, you know, so like I really do like, you know, consulting people about like where they're at and then just meeting them there.
00:10:01
Speaker
Yeah, for sure. I think the idea of networking and connecting is something that needs to be cultivated and people need to spend time on that, especially the day and age where everybody's on our phones.
00:10:14
Speaker
Social media is right there. We have this. sort of layer of, another layer of abstraction where there's just a pixel. There's ah i mean, there is a human being behind there, but as far as you're concerned, it's just, it's a video, it's a picture, right? Words, yeah. And when you make the connection in person, right, when you use the the tools we have, whether it's social media, email, phone call, or just like a networking event, hey, I want to introduce you to Sydney and so forth.
00:10:38
Speaker
I think that bears fruit sometimes immediately, sometimes never, and sometimes just down the road.

Sydney's Background and Passion for Community

00:10:45
Speaker
Yeah. At my current company that I'm running, IR Labs, we planted a seed back in December of 2023 that we got a phone call two weeks ago this massive opportunity that kind of came out of the blue, but it didn't because we put that seed to basically two one and a half years ago. Right.
00:11:03
Speaker
And like one like I really love this quote, too, is that like the seed What is it called? i have to like remember real quick. But it's basically saying that like... the tree doesn't grow or the plant doesn't grow the same day that it's planted. You know what I mean? Like, or the day, even the day after, you know, it has to harvest and it has to like go through all the processes and fertilization to grow. So that's awesome. That's great news.
00:11:27
Speaker
Congratulations. Yeah, it's pretty amazing. Now I know that you have, a you moved around ah bit. You were an Air Force kid, right? And you were born overseas or you went to high school? You were born in l LA and you grew up in Germany. Good memory.
00:11:42
Speaker
Yes, so I was born in LA. My parents met there, got married there. As soon as my dad found out my mom was pregnant with me, he decided to join the Air Force. So he actually missed my birth because he was training, but my mom called him and everything back in 98. Oh my God.
00:11:58
Speaker
like young get I'm still a 90s baby. ah But yeah, so that happened. And then i was like six months old when he got his first base, which is Alaska. I lived in Alaska for a few years. I would love to go back to like remember it because I was like super young. i moved there I moved away from there when I was like three. So I i kind of remember some things.
00:12:17
Speaker
And then I moved to Florida and then ah we lived there till i was 10. And then I moved here to Tucson for middle school. Uh, cause my dad got stationed here and then, he got orders to Germany, for four years. that's where I lived, uh, for all of high school. And then I decided to come back.
00:12:34
Speaker
So what do you think about Tucson? Give us ah your thoughts about this little community live in here. Yeah, Tucson, I highly recommend. It's definitely like, um don't even know if I can call it a hidden gem anymore because I feel like it's definitely growing.
00:12:48
Speaker
um But it's just unlike anything else. I've actually been meeting a lot more people, a lot of people that obviously Phoenix is like huge city, like people know about it, like a lot of energy, a lot of movement.
00:12:59
Speaker
But a lot of people tell me that like that are from Phoenix, say they like Tucson more. So I'm like, you know, like I'm starting to get that. But before I was getting like Tucson, like what's that? Like, you know what There's nothing there, like just one freeway, you know, but I really, really love it. I think there's just such like ah heart for like local stuff here, local community here, local business. It's just really close knit. People want to help you. It's more about collaboration than competition from my experience in my industry, at least.
00:13:28
Speaker
um i love the warm weather like i know it gets hot in the summer but i'm like we got this so yeah we get through it you know but cold to do a cold plunge i' good but yeah so i really love tucson um i love the nature i'm actually about to go on a camping trip this weekend to mount lemon something slight um one of my friends owns a cabin up there so we're gonna just camp, glamp a little bit, you know? Still gonna bring a tent.
00:13:53
Speaker
But yeah, so I just love the nature. um I love the people. i think that's why I wanted to come back too because, you know, obviously like I lived here before and I made really good friends and then I moved away. I was actually really sad when I moved to Germany yeah originally. Like I was just like, I don't wanna leave this.
00:14:08
Speaker
Like I was, don't know, I just did not, but I was only like 13, you know, and you're like so attached to your friends at that age. Like you're like, I don't want to go to a new school and all that. um But I feel like being a military kid made me very adaptable, ah very adaptable to like different rooms, different communities, different ah states, cities, countries.
00:14:27
Speaker
um And it really made me stronger, you know? So I really feel like when you're going through something that you don't want to go through, you don't see the bright side until later. That's very powerful. Yeah, it's very

Entrepreneurial Ventures and Networking

00:14:38
Speaker
powerful. One of the things I really appreciate about you as well is you're definitely an entrepreneur at heart and you have launched many sort of mini careers and you have no problem diving in sloshing around, swimming around a bit. And if it's not something that fits with you at the moment, you have no problem pulling out.
00:14:58
Speaker
And I think that that sort of cadence of being able to jump in, not just for one plunge, using the analogy of that, but you spent some time. I mean, you you had some endeavors in managing musicians, right? That's not an everyday thing. Tell us about that. Yeah.
00:15:16
Speaker
Oh my gosh, I absolutely loved being a music manager and I could definitely see myself in the music music industry again later. Music has always been a passion of mine. I started singing since I could talk. I was like two or three when I first sang. Like they have like little tapes of me.
00:15:32
Speaker
And I really thought I was going to be a famous singer. was going to be like Mariah Carey. like you know I was like just always like, ah, you know? And now I just do it at karaoke, but it's still fun.
00:15:43
Speaker
But yeah, so I would always just be passionate music. And I always saw myself in the industry, but I didn't know how was going happen. But it actually happened through modeling. So the person that I managed, his name is Queese. So definitely go check him out. He makes great music.
00:15:57
Speaker
I met him ah actually being a model because he hired me or casted me as a model for his music video. And I just remember seeing the production and just falling in love with like every part of like of the creation of it, you know, and like of just his music in general. And I was like, this person needs to be bigger. And then like my marketing mind came in and I went um on LinkedIn, actually, and I just started looking for people in the music industry to connect with. Wow.
00:16:24
Speaker
And like, and I was doing that like almost every day. I wasn't even telling him I was doing it. I was just like doing it to see if I got any bites. And then I did like ah many people were responding and like I got on Zoom meetings with people that had worked with like, ah like Michael Jackson and Prince and like, you know, like more older old school. But like it was cool, the the attention that, you know, I realized it was getting and like the industry and how big it is.
00:16:50
Speaker
and the business side of it, too, because obviously, like as consumers, we hear music and we don't realize all the stuff. Oh, yeah. Yeah. There's a lot of stuff, you know, learning about royalties, learning about shows and how everything works.
00:17:01
Speaker
And that was one of my biggest jobs was being a booking agent. So I would put together a lot of the shows and I just love the shows and I love seeing them come together. And that's why why I also am so passionate about doing events and stuff and bringing people together now because I was able to like find that passion through music management.
00:17:19
Speaker
um And then, yes so then I ended up finding a manager in l L.A. So I was co-managing with someone over there and we were working remotely and signed contracts and everything. And it went honestly, it was going it was going really well. The only reason I'm not doing it now is just because I like I'm really trying to focus more because, like you said, like I have done a lot of different things, but now I feel like I'm finding like.
00:17:42
Speaker
my my true dharma and like i'm just really trying to like focus and then like move on to the next thing you know and that might have to do with like my maturity and i'm getting old i'm getting older i guess i could say and like i want to really like build my future and like set it up you know set it up right so yeah but it's amazing that's brilliant i think one of the another aspect of networking that's very powerful that people don't really appreciate is, and this is actually, there's some data to support this, that one of the top sort of, i don't know what you want to call it, modifiers of long-term success is your ability to cultivate networks outside of your own.
00:18:26
Speaker
So if you always run with the same crowd, there's a certain level of success you're going to reach because you're going to know these people and that's about it. And growth. If you're able to to layer on top of that other networks that are completely outside of your normal network, you're going to build this crazy three-dimensional network.
00:18:43
Speaker
And I've had the pleasure of doing that. I have people that that are in medical device, aerospace, automotive, yeah industrial communities. yeah um I've got people that I know that in the wellness space, I've sort of dabbled in fashion a bit. And so all these different networks come together sometimes and I'm able sort of cross pollinate.
00:19:03
Speaker
And that's when you get lots of power, when you're able to connect one person from one network, from another one from another network. And there's power there. Yeah, thank you for like bringing that to light because, yeah, you also have a lot of experience with working in different industries and like working with different people and like seeing how those can blend.
00:19:22
Speaker
And that's exactly what I'm doing now as well with like my like event coordinating as well as like bringing women together and like you know my nutrition and like you know how making it all work together because like I just know me and I'm not...
00:19:38
Speaker
one person to just do one thing, you know? yeah I think I'm meant to do multiple things. So like, as you said, like bringing those networks together and like showing each other that like we're more alike than different, I think is super, super powerful.
00:19:51
Speaker
I've got a tough one for you. Okay, here we go. Okay. So in your, we'll say 21, right? When you went into the modeling space from there until now, have you ever thought about sort of plugging back into the matrix and getting like a quote unquote real job?
00:20:09
Speaker
Of course, of course. I've thought about it, yes. And it's always when I'm like down in the dumps, like, is this really gonna work? Like always when I'm in like my doubt limiting belief mindset is when I wanna go there.
00:20:23
Speaker
Or when I'm listening to my family. Sorry fam, but. Yeah, no, it's very valid. Yeah, because a lot of us, and I was just talking to my friend and colleague about this yesterday.
00:20:36
Speaker
um You know, whenever we have a partner now, and I do have a partner of a girlfriend, whenever you're together, you're your own family, right? So you're your own family now. and And it's hard. You're kind of like pulled between two worlds because it's like what your family that you grew up once or like what you're going to focus on yourself as a family if you're single or with a partner, you guys are a family.
00:20:57
Speaker
And it's like you have to focus on like what's going to move you forward, not like what you've always known, you know? And so it's been that was really, really, really hard for me at the beginning of my entrepreneurial journey of like unlearning a bunch of things about everything my family told me growing up and the life they wanted me to live.
00:21:13
Speaker
Sure. So it was like, you know, always hearing from them, like, you know, get a job. You're going to eventually go to back to a job. Like, you know, I've known people in my life that didn't do it, that didn't make it. Like, you know, all those like putting the doubts in my head.
00:21:28
Speaker
and like, yeah, I definitely have thought about it. And like I've done things that maybe kind of could be considered a job, but it was always like social media, like something creative. Yeah, right.
00:21:39
Speaker
You know something that I love like that was the main thing I wanted was to do something that I really loved and enjoyed and I wanted to create something like Bigger I wanted like to make big impact rather than just minimal impact, you know Yeah, and just to be clear. I think there's nothing wrong with a corporate job There's nothing wrong with plugging into the matrix. We need everybody and I say that you know this this business this ah podcast is about the mind, the mind and the market. Right. So the market includes a whole boatload of traditional commercial businesses, you know, the corporate world, if you will.
00:22:14
Speaker
But it also includes entrepreneurship, sole proprietors, you name it. Right. And so that the beauty of life and we have this opportunity, this wonderful privilege is that we can decide which direction we go.

Embracing Discomfort and Stoic Principles

00:22:27
Speaker
Yeah. Now having kids for me, it's like where the rubber meets the road. Right. It's easy for me to say to people, yeah, I go on your your new thing or do this or do that. When you have kids, yeah it gives a different light.
00:22:40
Speaker
You know, I've got a kid in college right now. He's sort of figuring his way. I've got one in high school. And so it's this sort of like... god Almost like guardrails is what I provide.
00:22:52
Speaker
And not so much a a leash or you're going to do this. I'm more like, here are the guardrails. You can operate within these guardrails. If you get closer to the guardrails, going to step in to support you.
00:23:04
Speaker
right But I've had the the luxury, the rare luxury of getting really strong support from my family. That's great. There's always a little tinge of like, are you sure you don't want a corporate job again or whatever? I mean, I kind of have a corporate job now, right? I'm running this company.
00:23:18
Speaker
But even when had- But you're the CEO. That's true. But when I had my own company, when I was first starting, there was always questions about, are you sure you're doing the right thing? And they weren't necessarily, had my best interests in mind. Yes, of course. It's always to protect you. It's always out of love.
00:23:36
Speaker
And that's what I realized too. And then another thing that i was talking to my friend about yesterday is like, we forget our parents are living this life for the first time too. Yes. You know, so they're also figuring out their way or how they should get guide you. And the way you described it, like, you know, guardrails rather than a leash, that analogy is really good because a lot of, you know, parents don't put it in that perspective because they just want the best for their child or they want better than what they did.
00:24:01
Speaker
No, very true. I think also i had a podcast guest of the other day that it was very and enlightening. And she had a quote that was essentially that discomfort is a proxy for success.
00:24:17
Speaker
So as human beings, we live in such a comfortable world. We're in an air conditioned situation here. We have a fully stocked refrigerator. We've got gas in our car. We've got a car.
00:24:30
Speaker
We have a roof over our head. it's Everything's so comfortable. yeah People sort of tend to go back to that and want nothing but comfort. And i try to break out of my comfort zone as soon as I start seeing that I'm getting too comfortable.
00:24:45
Speaker
And I know you're the same way. I know you've actually gone out and said, no, no, I'm not going to do this because this is a harder path. I'm going to go down that path. which I appreciate. Thank you for noticing that.
00:24:56
Speaker
Cause yeah, I really have taken the hard route. And that's another thing that sometimes like parents, my parents will say too, it's like, do you want to keep like, you know, like struggling or do you want to keep like, you know, doing this? And I'm like, yes, I don't know. Something inside of me is just saying like, I like making money out of thin air. like, what I mean? So let me ask you this. Do you believe that entrepreneurs are born or made?
00:25:23
Speaker
Mm, that's a really good question.
00:25:29
Speaker
I'm going to say i feel, okay I'm gonna say I feel like they're born, but they can be developed. You know, they can also be developed.
00:25:40
Speaker
So like, I do think like I personally was born an entrepreneur because I, even when I was 16, when I was first getting my first real job, which was Popeye's,
00:25:53
Speaker
That was like one of the only places on the base to get a job. i was It was in Germany. And that was my first job. I like started babysitting for like all the military wives' kids. And I was making so much quicker cash and was saving so much. I would spend the night the house. I would just be watching Netflix and their kids would be sleeping like...
00:26:09
Speaker
It was the easiest thing ever. And I was like, I like this. like you know like And then I ended up quitting and then I ended up making more, like doing that. you know So I feel like for me, it was born, but I also feel like you know you're constantly learning and growing. So like they can also be made as well.
00:26:24
Speaker
so That's really powerful. What do you think? I think that we all have, it's like a dial. It's like ah like a spectrum. and We all have different levels of entrepreneurship.
00:26:36
Speaker
Definitely. And I think that some people like you, like me potentially are born with a higher level. And then some folks, maybe not so much. And that's totally okay.
00:26:47
Speaker
yeah Not everybody can tolerate risk the way that you and I can. ah And the way I see it, i you know my father died when I was very young. So I was like, you know what?
00:26:59
Speaker
We're all gonna, this sounds really morbid, but this goes back to my stoic principles, right? We're all gonna die anyway. Why not do something worth something? absolutely In my definition. Now becoming a doctor or working at a lawyer's office or becoming an accountant, those are also the same level for other people.
00:27:16
Speaker
Yes. But I don't live their life. I live my life. Exactly. So I'm going to keep on fighting, right? Yeah. That's why it's so important to me is, you know, i've developed my stoicism over time.
00:27:29
Speaker
used to be very reactionary. I used to, you know, had a lot of growth and I'm still growing. But the stoic principles, particularly one of Amor Fati, which is love your fate.
00:27:44
Speaker
Whatever fate you have in front of you, embrace it. Right. And it's not always easy when you're down in the dumps or you have a situation that is not pleasant.
00:27:55
Speaker
Right. The human thing is because we really rely on that comfort is we don't want that. Yeah, exactly. But instead, if we have a different mindset and say, okay, this is here for me, this is my fate, I'm going to figure it out.
00:28:08
Speaker
It's all about mindset. It's all about perspective. it is. Honestly. And like having that conversation with yourself because like your like your thoughts are to be observed, not just to consume every thought that comes in your head.
00:28:23
Speaker
Because sometimes like they're not real or they're not true, you know? So you have to pretty much choose what you what you choose to believe and, you know, choose to not... believe or not to be shameful of your like of your fate, basically. Don't be shameful, don't doubt. like Like you said, love it. I love that quote so much. like That's impactful. I saw a bumper sticker on the back of a an old beat up VW bus, little micro bus. It said, don't believe everything you think.
00:28:54
Speaker
Yeah, literally. love that. There's a lot of power in that for sure. There is. There is. Because like you know sometimes we let our thoughts consume us and it sends us in this whole spiral. And like you know that goes into mental health. think that's the reason for anxiety, depression. like you know One of the reasons. There's many reasons to mental health.
00:29:11
Speaker
For sure. I think it also just has to do with, yeah, people not understanding that concept and having that perspective a shift because, yeah, it's like, you know, and and we all are guilty of it. Like, we're all like the same. Like, we all have those thoughts that we believe. It's just like making it a habit to just know, okay, these are my thoughts. Just watch them come in, watch them come out.
00:29:32
Speaker
That's why I like meditating too because like it gives you kind of an opportunity to practice that. For sure. Yeah. Stillness. I had did a whole series on stillness.

Reflections and Future Aspirations

00:29:40
Speaker
Okay, so imagine I have a secret magic phone that I can hand to you right now, and you can communicate one way with your 18-year-old self.
00:29:54
Speaker
What would you tell Sidney King at 18 years old? Oh my gosh, that's a hard one. Okay, okay, okay, okay, yeah okay.
00:30:06
Speaker
I love this because I've really been wanting to start practicing, like having conversations with my younger self and having conversations with my higher self. Because that's also what I think whenever you do have negative thoughts. I feel like one part is like, you know, your ego, I guess. And then one part is like your higher self, you know, your true self, your heart.
00:30:24
Speaker
Part of me wants to say, like, don't go to college. But I don't want to tell myself that because that also led me to like where I'm at. You know what I mean? So like maybe just say like.
00:30:42
Speaker
Believe in yourself more than you believe anyone else. Like, you know, your truth is the most important truth and everyone else like take with a grain of salt.
00:30:53
Speaker
I feel like at that time I was too consumed by like, you know, everyone else's thoughts and opinions and like, you know, caring about like their validation of what I was doing.
00:31:05
Speaker
And I feel like I would just tell her to just stand strong in like what you believe because your thoughts and your truth is the most important the end of the day.
00:31:16
Speaker
It's very powerful. so Thank you. There's a second part to this question. Okay. Now you have that that same phone is able to go the other direction um and you're able to ask,
00:31:31
Speaker
a question of your 57 year old self. So 30 years from now.
00:31:40
Speaker
Oh my gosh. What's gonna make me my first million dollars? I'm just kidding. Let's see
00:31:54
Speaker
I guess I would just ask her, boss lady. ah What mindset shift changed it all for you? You know, where what was that? What was the moment that you were just like, okay, this is it for me. Like, this is what's going to take me to my absolute, like,
00:32:15
Speaker
you know, my absolute destiny, basically, you know? Cause right now I'm like, like you said, trying so many different things and I'm like putting so much energy toward these things. So I feel like when I'm like, like just knowing that from when I'm older, I could just be like, okay. Cause I know it's always a mindset thing, you know? So it's like, once I have that like shift, you know, like the reprogram of your subconscious, you could say, I feel like everything's just going to be like so much more in flow.
00:32:41
Speaker
So yeah. Yeah. the The beauty of that question is that you can literally reverse engineer that, right? Figure out what that you'd ask that person, you in the future, and then plant the seed now. And honestly, Sydney, I think you're already doing that.
00:32:59
Speaker
I think you already you're already cultivating that mindset for yourself. And that mindset is is voracious. That mindset is, is flexible, yeah that mindset is tenacious and kind. And so you're really you're really teasing things out. i know you've had a lot of bumps on the road, you know people and places and circumstances throwing you around.
00:33:28
Speaker
But as I tell people that are close to me, my children included, that life and business, it's a full contact sport. You're hands on, hands on. You got to get in there. You got to get dirty. You're going to get bruised. You're going to get cut.
00:33:42
Speaker
You might break a limb or two, but at the end of the day, none of us are getting out alive. Yeah. So might as well give it our all. I love that. Period. Enough said. This has been a great podcast.
00:33:56
Speaker

00:34:26
Speaker
Don't look at the end result. And that's something I always tell um my you can manifest and result. You know what i mean? But don't think that that's going to happen tomorrow, because like we said, like something that's planted is not going to grow the next day.
00:34:38
Speaker
um So, yeah i just wanted to give that piece of advice to anyone that's watching this because, like, you really do to fall in love with journey. And I tell my clients that with personal training, um that you really do have to fall in love with, like, the whole lifestyle, like getting good sleep, like eating nutritious foods, like mindful movement.
