Ashley Day is an embodiment coach, yoga teacher, and CEO/Founder of her company, Ashlightenment, where she holds space for people moving through big life changes. Julie and Ashley sit down and have a deep talk about romantic partnerships.

After a difficult divorce, Ashley found ways to make shifts in herself and look at her own dating and relationship patterns so she could be ready for a healthy romantic partnership. Although Ashley was not a client of Julie’s, Ashley did similar work in shifting her dating dynamics as Julie does with her clients. Ashley graces us with her “vulnerable shares” of her own personal journey before and after finding the type of romantic relationship she had been looking for.

This podcast also promotes ACTIVATE, an immersive yoga and sound journey experience coming to Overland Park, Kansas next week! Ashley has invited infamous, conscious DJ, Taz Rashid, to come and give us all an unforgettable experience where we can enjoy high-vibrational music together as a community. There’s still spots open, and you can register for the event here:

Episode 8 - Finding Healthy Love after Divorce with Ashley Day

Julie takes an example of a stressor she and her family recently experienced and explores how stress can seep into everyday family dynamics we all experience, if we don't have the language to speak about them together.

When a family experiences stress, be it a low-level everyday stressor to a higher-level traumatic event, we are unfortunately not always taught in society how to discuss the difficult feelings of anxiety, grief, and confusion with our family members. Since we aren't taught how to have these conversations, these feelings can tend to be passed down from one family member to another, where the stress can accidentally manifest into dysfunctional family dynamics.

When we have emotional safety and develop the emotional intelligence to understand that there is a time and place for everything, including difficult feelings, these feelings can flow through the family where there can be grounding, understanding, and connectedness.

Episode 7 - Where do the difficult feelings in the family go?

Julie Marie hosts her husband, Ray, on the podcast for the first time!

Ray gives details on how he came to examine his own family dynamics from his family-of-origin, and in turn, the family dynamics he was perpetuating in his marriage and the family he created. Ray discusses what specifically he decided to shift and also shares some reflections he is currently having on his love language and others ways he communicates as a man, as a husband, and as a person.

Julie Marie and Ray have a deep conversation in how they each have participated in dynamics that haven't worked for them in the past and what they needed to shift out of them. @Karamo from Queer Eye — thanks for saving our marriage!

They also vulnerably share a dynamic they are actively attempting to lovingly shift now. It's always a journey, but if you're with a partner who's open and working on creating emotional safety in the relationship, it's an honor!

Episode 6 - Ray's First Podcast!

Julie Marie addresses the “family estrangement epidemic.” Where some researchers are finding that family estrangements rates are going up, while others are finding that rates have stayed the same throughout time.

Julie gives her own personal opinion on family estrangement and answers the question she has been asked a lot “are you pro-estrangement?” The answer may surprise you.

She explains the difference when there is opportunity for reconnection in estrangements, and when there isn’t, but how the majority of family estrangements can be an opportunity for deep healing – both for an individual and for the family as a whole.

Episode 5 - Am I glad there are more family estrangements on the rise?

Did you know that shifting into healthier dynamics with the people that matter most to you actually could help heal and regulate your nervous system? Breathwork and bodywork are incredibly important to the nervous system, but so is a sense of community. Not just any community, but emotionally safe community. What if you could find that in your family relationships and romantic partnerships? Here's the good news, in learning healthier ways of communicating and relating to one another - you can!

Episode 4 - Family Dynamics, Relationship Dynamics, & Your Nervous System

Julie Marie answers the question: Why should I hire a Family Dynamics Coach? by going into more details of her own story on how studying family/relationship dynamics and receiving coaching herself has helped her in starting her own family and shifting into healthier dynamics with multiple family members in her own life.

Episode 3 - Why should I hire a Family Dynamics Coach?: My Story, Part 2

Julie Marie answers the question: Why should I hire a Family Dynamics Coach? by telling her own story of how studying family/relationship dynamics and receiving coaching herself has helped her transform her dating life into an eventual marriage, as well as her own family relationships. While there may be specific details that are different from your own experiences, her story is not unique. We hope you can see yourself in her story.
