Liverpool's Title Win and Celebrations

00:01:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hello and welcome to the Daily Liverpool podcast brought to you by the Global Sports Podcast Network. I'm your host, Jesse Sawa. I don't know if you've heard, but we are the champions of England and it looks like this is going to be a month-long celebration for the club.
00:01:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
My voice is still gone from from the weekend. Four games to go, Premier League title already wrapped up. I think all of those games are going to be celebratory, I think, certainly for the fans.
00:01:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think they're really going to kind of savour this But I think it's going to be interesting to see how the team and Arnie Slott approach these games.

Slott's Strategy for Season's End

00:02:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think if think if we if we know anything about Arnie Slott from his time at Liverpool this season, I think he's just going to be super professional.
00:02:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think he will want to finish this season strong to try and get as as many points as possible. and really to really you know to instill in the team this idea that you just never drop off that you never take the foot off off the gas whether that means it's the same group of players or whether he makes some changes whether he makes wholesale changes you know, remains to be seen, you know, you you could see, i mean, I think most of the fans, I think we'd like to see some of the other players given an opportunity, one to kind of show what they can do.
00:02:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
but But also a kind of thank you, you know, for for what they've done this season and season's gone by. i think Kelleher, you know deserves a run out in the next four games because it does look like you know he's going to leave at the end of the season with Marmadash really coming in as well.
00:03:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
you know I'd expect Trent Alexander-Arnold to continue to play at right back. And you know I'd like to see players like Harvey Elliott really given just a run out and just say, look, next four games, you know just show us what you can do.
00:03:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
I mean, we all know what he can do, but he's never been given a consistent run. So I'd really like to see him be given more game time. I'd like Endo to be given more game time as a thank you to someone who is, i think, just epitomises everything that is good about this team and and the club.
00:03:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
And so, yeah, I'd like to see, you know, Chieser as well. I just don't know whether he's going to stay.

The Significance of Liverpool's Rebuild

00:04:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
But so again, you just, you can't see Slot dropping Mo because Mo is obsessed with breaking records.
00:04:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
And so maybe wholesale changes is is not on the cards, but I i would like to see few of those changes. Some of those players given, you know,
00:04:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
an opportunity and, you know, we've we've got a month really of, of football to go and leading up to that parade, which is going to, you know, bring the whole of Merseyside to a stop.
00:04:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
And you just know that it's going to be one hell of a celebration, a parade, a party. And, you know, I think it will put other clubs to shame.
00:04:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
certain state owned clubs, you know, they'll see how a title celebration should be done. And look, I think i think Liverpool should use that as well.
00:05:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
Use this month, use that celebration, even the parade as a message to the rest of the Premier League and indeed to the rest of Europe, that this is just the beginning.

Planning for Next Season: Transfers and Strategy

00:05:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
that what you're looking at is that this is our rebuild. The rebuild that you all thought was going to see Liverpool fall off a cliff post-Jürgen Klopp, that, you know, Jürgen Klopp was the only thing standing between, you know, success and and utter failure.
00:05:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
and And though he he is a massive part of why we are where we are, you know, he's the one that's built the foundation. He's the one that got us over the line in the Premier League. He won us the Champions League.
00:05:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
He got us back into that kind of elite bracket and in Europe, three Champions League finals in like five seasons. Ridiculous. But now he's gone and now Arnie Slott is here and we didn't fall off a cliff.
00:06:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
We actually reached the summit. We've won the Premier League title. So this is how you do a rebuild. You rebuild by winning and rebuilding from a position of strength. And that's what we and that's what we've got.
00:06:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
We've got a massive, massive opportunity now to look at this season. as a season that nobody thought we were going to do what we what we did.
00:06:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
Nobody thought that we were going to achieve what we ended up achieving. So now let's build on that and let's turn Arnie Slott into that Bob Paisley figure in the same way that Jurgen Klopp is the Bill Shankly.
00:06:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
And so next season, I think, And Arnie Slott, I think, is one of those obsessives. I think as soon as this season is over, he's going to be planning for next season.
00:07:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
How can we build on this success? How can we retain the Premier League title? How can we do better in the Champions League? And to win the Champions League, how can we do better in the domestic cups?
00:07:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
And this season is a massive, it's been a massive learning curve for Slott. You know, he'll know that much more about English football. He'll know the kind of physical, physical, mental toll it can take out of the players and out of a manager.
00:07:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
So he's going to be, I think, he's going to be, I think, even stronger in an even better position going into next season. And, you know, we are going to have to spend and I hope that FSG back slot in the summer transfer market. All the indicators are that they

Arsenal's Crucial Champions League Moment

00:07:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
will. You know, historically, we haven't gone out and splurged money every transfer window.
00:07:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
But I do think that this season, they need to loosen the purse strings and, and really back the manager because other clubs are going to be spending, you know, Arsenal need to spend, they need to get a striker, you know, otherwise they are just going to be permanently the kind of bridesmaids of the Premier League.
00:08:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
And, and, you know, look right now they're looking at another disappointing season, but they do have a Champions League semi-final to look forward to. And that is, you know, something to to to point out.
00:08:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
And that could transform their season, transform their team, transform the stature, the mentality of the of the manager and the club as well. Because, you know, look, they've never won the European Cup. They've never won the Champions League.
00:08:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
They've never been champions of Europe. So this is a huge, huge opportunity for Arsenal. to get something out of this season, to turn what could be a really disappointing season where, you know, I think they bought into this false narrative that they were they were the the main challenger to Manchester City.
00:09:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
When, you know, history and facts over the last six, seven, eight years tells you just one thing. And that is that if Manchester City don't win the Premier League, it's Liverpool, nobody else.
00:09:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
And so I think that they need to win the Champions League because if they don't, I think Arteta has got a big, big job to get this team to get them over what will be a huge kind of mental block.
00:09:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
Because you just simply can't keep coming second. You've got to win it at some point before that team loses its kind of, its mental kind of edge and its mental win will to win.
00:09:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
So, I mean, I personally said that they'd reached that point last season. So they're a season ahead now. or a season further down that that road.
00:10:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
So I do think that Arsenal will be very active in the transfer window in the summer, irrespective of what happens in the Champions League. I mean, if they win the Champions League, they'll want to try and build on that.
00:10:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
And if they don't win the Champions League, you know, then you could be looking at... if not a clear out, but certainly you know some players might you know it might be upgraded.
00:10:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
And then you've got the other teams. Obviously, Manchester City are going to be very, very strong in the transfer market. you know I don't think PSR kind of matters to clubs like Man City because they'll be very creative and they'll probably find 115 ways circumvent rules.
00:10:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
to circumvent psr rules But irrespective of that, they will be active in the market. They've already got... They bought a centre-back in January. They bought Marmouche.
00:11:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
in the winter as well and you know they've got areas of the team that they will want to to strengthen Kevin De Bruyne is going to be leaving at the end of the season so maybe Bernardo Silva there'll be maybe a couple of other players but certainly they will spend money in the summer transfer window as will the likes of Chelsea you know irrespective of whether they keep the manager or not you just never know with Chelsea you know do they stick with Maresca or do they go you know down a different route with a new manager if it's a new manager they might spend more money in the transfer window but whatever happens with Chelsea they're competitive in the transfer market at the very least and
00:11:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
they are someone they're they're a force in the transfer market just simply because of the transfer fees that they pay and the longevity of the of the contracts that they offer players and then you know the likes of Newcastle you know they have had a very very good season

Premier League's Competitive Landscape

00:12:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
they've finally got their a trophy win that they they've been looking for for what 50 60 70 years And they have had a really, really good season. i really like that team. They've got some really, really good players.
00:12:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
A couple that Liverpool... are apparently interested in. And, you know, Eddie Howe has done a really, really good job. And if they can get into that top five, into that Champions League, then they are going to be stronger for it. They will have more money to spend.
00:12:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
They will be more attractive. And the same goes for Nottingham Forest. The same goes for Aston Villa. These clubs have had, you know, good... I mean, Forest have had a phenomenal season.
00:12:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
And if they can finish it off... by qualifying for the Champions League. I mean, what a season they would have had and what a job that Nuno would have done. And again, you know, they can go out and attract players and and be a real force in the Premier League. And the same with Aston Villa.
00:13:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
Manchester United will be active. I know they've had a wretched season, but, you know, they are a couple of games away from winning a European trophy and qualifying for the Champions League and that transforms everything. Same for Spurs.
00:13:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
And so, you know, you've got Bournemouth, you've got Iraiola has done a brilliant job at Bournemouth. You know, we're interested in a couple of their players. So, you know, I think they they do have that kind of challenge where they're one of those clubs that they're almost kind of punished for doing well because, you know, the top teams and, you Liverpool are are one of those will kind of cherry pick their best players.
00:13:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
But they're they're just in such a good place. They're such a good team and they're so well coached. Crystal Palace are in the in the final of the FA Cup. They've got their a massive opportunity to win a trophy.
00:13:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
Everton are going to be in their new stadium. So this idea that this Premier League is not a strong league, it's just ah ah such a it's such a ridiculous narrative. So Liverpool are, you know, they've they've had a great season.

Liverpool's Tribute Video and Season Highlights

00:14:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
But I think we do need to carry on until the end of the season. And I think Arnie Slott will be the first to kind of reiterate that to the players. slightly off, well, not off topic, it's always going to be on topic, but Liverpool, the club released a tribute video on their official YouTube channel, which I really urge you to watch.
00:14:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's only, what, something like four, five, five minutes and 22 seconds. It's an absolutely fantastic watch. You know, it kind of mixes, you know, the best parts of of this season and, you know, kind of,
00:14:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
puts in kind of snippets of Liverpool's kind of, know, fabled history, which, you know is always such a massive part of the club's identity.
00:15:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
And I think it really, that the club have done such a great, great job with this video. And I really would urge you to watch it. And the last few days, I think,
00:15:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
the celebrations at Anfield, the kind of spontaneous celebrations at Anfield on Sunday. I don't think there's on any other stadium. I know that we we can be called biased, but there's no other stadium that could do what Anfield did on Sunday. You just look at the Manchester City title celebrations in the last few years in comparison. There's just no comparison.
00:15:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
And so sometimes... marketing taglines are true. You know, this means more. You know, I remember Trent Alexander-Arnold was kind of criticised by, I think, was it Guardiola or the Manchester City players when he sees it when he said that it means more to us.
00:15:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
But it it it just shows, it comes out in in days like Sunday that it does mean more to us. But look, we've still got reaction coming in on what is Liverpool's 20th title win.
00:16:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
And I'm sure that is going to continue in the days and weeks to come. So we're going to start with daily Liverpool regular Karl Kopach. He's a writer for the Anfield Wrap amongst others.
00:16:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
A fantastic writer as well. If you're a Sherlock Holmes fan, then check out his... brilliant podcast called from Adler to Amberley. So this is Karl Kopach with his thoughts on Liverpool's title win at the weekend.
