sports podcast network Hello and welcome to another edition of the Daily Palace, but slightly different today. We have the crossover episode and we are joined by a member of the Liverpool team. How are you doing, Adash? Yeah, I'm doing really good. i'm Excited to be on the Palace podcast um and yeah, really excited to discuss the game.
00:00:27
Speaker
And also joining us today from the Daily Palace team, we have Alex Waite. How are you doing, Alex? Hey, Finn. Yeah, well, good as usual. Yeah, ready to get stuck in and hopefully we can be looking forward to our first and the season against Liverpool, which would be extremely palace, you know, as long term palace fans will know. As you're saying, we're still waiting for our first three points. um Whereas in fact, Liverpool have gotten off to a pretty amazing start and already fair to say in contention for the title. So yeah, Crystal Palace will be hosting Liverpool at Selhurst Park, 12.30 kick-off. In Greenland just now, Adash was making a reference to Jurgen Klopp's absolutely, ah, his affinity, his love for the early kick-off. What are your thoughts, Adash? Is Anna Slott of the same thought, or do we not know yet? Or does he do you reckon he doesn't really care yet?
00:01:21
Speaker
I think he doesn't really care yet. I mean, to be honest, he's kind of taken everything quite quite easy since he's been in charge of Liverpool. He's just got on with the job and I can't really complain too much about what he's done so far.
00:01:32
Speaker
um But, yeah, I mean, given a few seasons, he might be scratching his head at the 12.30 kickoffs. But, um I mean, 12.30 kickoff at Selhurst Park is always a difficult game. For some reason, I feel like Liverpool always play Palace at 12.30 on a Saturday. I don't know about you guys, but it just seems like a fixture made for that time. It feels oddly familiar, as you say. yeah It feels like it always seems to be that sort of time, that sort of on a Saturday. Yeah, absolutely.
00:01:57
Speaker
um Obviously quite contrasting starts to the Premier League season from both teams. I mean, Adash, what are your thoughts going into this game? How how happy have you been with the transition from Jurgen Klopp sort of era into this new era with Arna Slott? Has there been considerable differences or do you think it's mainly been sort of minor tweaks and how do you feel going into this game?
00:02:20
Speaker
i think I think a lot of Liverpool fans will feel quite mixed. I think they will say there have been some drastic changes but also not many changes. um I think the biggest change for Liverpool fans is the style of play. We're so used to seeing heavy male football like pressing from the front.
00:02:35
Speaker
going full out for the win, scoring goals, maybe being a bit less cautious at the back and just going full throttle. But on the slot, we've kind of been a bit more calmer in possession and calmer with the ball and calmer with our press. um It's been more tactical. We're seeing a lot more possession based football, playing out from the back, playing into midfield. So Yeah, I think there has been changes, but I think the end the end result's kind of been a bit similar. We're still seeing players like Salah and Diaz who have has had a great start to the season. um You know, our attack's really strong. Our midfield seems like we've got a really good balance. Grafenberg has been one of our standout players this season. and um Slot's done really, really well to sort of coach him in that number six position.
00:03:17
Speaker
um and in defense, Kanata and Van Dyke look as solid as ever. So I think he's made a few tweaks, but our style of play looks a lot more pragmatic, but also we're still dangerous. So I think, yeah, he's had he's that he's had some he's had a good positive start on the slot, but still early days. so Absolutely. And as you said, I think ah even though obviously the team is sort of still getting used to way the way Anna Slott wants them to play and it's a transitional period, obviously getting results and winning games makes it things a lot easier. Alex, that being said, I know he's already got a slightly different story south of the river.
00:03:58
Speaker
ah in London. So what what are your thoughts? Do you feel do we feel it's a disaster or do we feel like some do you feel that things will click eventually? And is so is it a ah case of Palace fans just biding our time and waiting for Oliver Glazner's vision to be realized?
00:04:18
Speaker
I think so. Yeah, I think there's that element of like, yeah, things will click into place. I think going off the back of the Everton performance, which was probably one of our worst performances of the season on Saturday, there will be like cautiousness about, you know, the league leaders coming to sell us. um However, we do tend to pull out these results when we're on a slump. I remember last season, I think we lost or we we hadn't had a win in about eight games or one win in eight games, then we went to Anfield and got that 1-0 result. So I think as a lot of Palace fans will know, we are our most dangerous when we're not at our best. If we'd beaten Everton 3-0, then we'd probably be like, OK, we're up for the Liverpool game. and But we have this kind of pattern where we have a few bad results and then we're a bit more dangerous to play against. I think what we've actually mentioned in the past, Finn,
00:05:16
Speaker
And with the other guys on the Palace pod, it's just the defence is what a lot of us will be looking at. And obviously, like Adash said, you know, the frontline of Liverpool is incredibly strong. And if you wanted a test of where your defence is, it would be up against those guys. So I think that's what a lot of Palace fans will be eyeing on Saturday. I think, to be honest, we'll see a similar performance to Man United, where we will be backs against the wall for a lot of it. We'll try and keep the clean sheet and then try and hit on the counter attack. So I don't expect us to have loads of the ball. But to be honest, I just want to see us, and I said this on Monday, I just want to see us have a bit more grit and have a bit more positivity in what we're doing. If we go away losing 2-0, like 3-1 or something.
00:06:04
Speaker
But we know what glasn is trying to do. I think there'll be a bit of sympathy and maybe a bit more positivity coming back from the international break. um So though it's a tough test, I just want to see those improvements. um You know, but this this is as big as the test as it will be for us this season with Liverpool at home. Absolutely. I think you make a great point there with Palace fans. I don't think we're we're really expecting a win.
00:06:29
Speaker
I think it's more likely that Liverpool will probably take maximum points just because, as you said, the strength of their squad and they seem to be in a much they seem to be further along with their with their development and their the readiness for this this season than we do. I think, for example, the Liverpool squad has barely changed, I think. was it Is it only like one edition over the summer, Adash?
00:06:54
Speaker
one edition of Kiesa, he's actually got an injury so far. um So yeah, it's been it's been a very similar squad to last season, um which I guess helps in terms of continuity, the same sort of messaging um from like within the dressing room. But yeah, there's been some new, I'll say new players in terms of like Gravenberg this season, it's kind of, he wasn't really featured much last season. He seems like a new signing. ah Players like Gackpo, who's kind of, since the Euros has been really on fire. so there's been a few players that kind of stepped up which kind of makes me a bit more optimistic as well for the season. I mean I suppose it's a real it's a real compliment actually to Liverpool's recruitment that they haven't had to sort of splash cash and sign loads of players this summer because they realize they've already got players in that squad who are more than up to the task and as you said like Ryan Gravenberg I've been a big fan of him since he was playing at Ajax and
00:07:44
Speaker
I know he spent some time as well at Bayern Munich. So I mean, at his age to have already played for three of the biggest clubs in the world and and to be playing in his form at the moment is is pretty great. So, yeah, so it's exciting times for Liverpool in terms of Ryan Gravenberg.
00:08:01
Speaker
um So I heard you you mentioned before, so Jurgen Klopp's heavy metal football. ah People are referring to Arna Schlotz more as rock and roll. so that Apparently this is like more rock and roll football. Alex, if you had to describe Oliver Glastner as a musical genre, his style of play and his his approach to the Crystal Palestine, what musical genre would you go for? What style? That's a great question. um Sort of like jazzy hip-hop, I'd say. um Or like, you know, like that skater hip-hop, like, sort of cruises along nicely, has the odd, like, you know, i bump in it. um That's what, I think that's what he's trying to achieve, but at the moment it's probably more like, I don't know, what's the kind of lowest tempo music you can think of? I think, I think what you're trying to say is, and sorry, I'm just going to say this as a music buff.
00:08:56
Speaker
I think you're go you're saying that he's a bit like, you know, beats to study to. He wants beats to study to. He wants that sort of relaxed sort nice hip hop. And instead, what he's getting is the guy who's trying to uh flog his CD to you outside the shopping center on like the out of date format. The way the way he dresses sort of gives me um like music teacher vibes in a way as well he's like the if he had a goatee he'd be like he'd be like the perfect music teacher you'd be like oh come on guys everyone get your guitars and whatever but yeah he's he's a football manager and um we hope to see his rhythm come out on there uh soon for us.
00:09:34
Speaker
Maybe that's an idea. I mean, that's sort of like a dying thing, really, isn't it, in football? They used to, back in the 90s and even like then, before then, they used to have a lot of teams do ah songs and stuff like that. Maybe it was more to do with like the international teams, but maybe Crystal Palace could do like a drill tune or something like that. you ah if you had to Who you think is the most musical out of all of the Liverpool squad? Oh, also so i like I like these questions, by the way. Who's the most musical?
00:10:03
Speaker
Who do you think, I mean obviously you don't know these guys, you don't hang out with them every day, but who do you think out of all of them? I think Lewis Diaz has the most rhythm, so I feel like he would have good music. I'm doubting. I feel like he's always got a celebration that's got a dance involved. I don't know if you guys saw him over the summer in the Copa America. He was involved in a music video with the Colombian artists. I don't know if you guys saw that. I did see this, yeah, because a lot of Colombian mates, and they were showing me. I'm your footballer, and he's also now breaking his way into the...
00:10:40
Speaker
<unk> He's definitely got a career after football with Diaz. Maybe he can like get his immunos and Loma, who are the Colombian boys in the Palace team. They can form a little something. They could become like Colombia's next reggaeton stars. Who knows? That's amazing. We'll have to keep an eye on it. We're going to take a short little ad break. And when we come back, we're going to talk about which players, maybe some of the ones that we've already mentioned, are going to stand out potentially in this fixture. So don't go away.

We're joined today by Adash and Alex, and we're talking about the build up to Palace's fixture against Liverpool at Celes Park this Saturday at 12.30. So Adash, who is going to be, I think i' I'm feeling already, I know who you're going to say, but maybe there's still going to be some surprises in this. Which players do you think are going to be key in terms of the Liverpool squad in this fixture?
00:12:12
Speaker
I think there'll be a number of players, and obviously we can talk about it from an attacking point of view, but I do think in midfield, seeing the way that Palace is set up with like a 3, 4, 2, 1 sort of, with the Mateta, Eze and Enketi up front, I feel like the two in midfield that you guys have, I think it's Wharton and Kamada from the last game and that I saw. um So if we can get, like I said, Gravenberg, who's been exceptional this season, McAllister and Sobbersly, sort of outnumbering you guys in midfield. I know you've got three at the back, but I think McAllister has been a very underrated player and you guys might might not be a fan of him because he's ex-Bryant.
00:12:47
Speaker
But um he's been he's been incredible for us this season um and even at the end of last season, he's he's he's been on fire. So I feel like he will be a player that will dictate tempo, create chances, keep things sticking in midfield. So I'm looking at him. From an attacking point of view, I'm interested in the battle we mentioned Diaz and Munoz earlier, that Colombian battle ah on Liverpool's left your palaces right hand side. So I think that'll be an interesting battle to keep an eye on um on the left hand side for us. So I think Diaz will Have an interesting game. I think he'll want to step up. He scored a couple the other day, but against Wolves the other day, he didn't look too convincing. um My concern will be Eze from a Liverpool point of view. I think he causes problems at Anfield last season. and Obviously, he likes to drift into those pockets. And that's why I think the midfield will also be ah an interesting battle if Eze wants to drop deep, get on the ball, drive out of the fence. So yeah, he's a player I'm a big fan of from ah from a Liverpool fan's point of view. um
00:13:45
Speaker
I think I'm surprised, I don't know about you guys, but I'm surprised no big club bid did for him or was was in for him this summer, which is probably the last thing you want to hear after Alise left. but No, I think it's an excellent point. i think and I think there were a lot of clubs, including Liverpool, who actually would have happily added Eze to their squads. I think it was probably just a combination of financial fair play and i'm not here also that we a bit like with Mark Gahey being in the England squad I think it's easy for then for football club owners to whack an extra 20-30 million on the price of a player just for simply being an international player so I think that sort of maybe put off a few um potential bidders but I could definitely see
00:14:29
Speaker
um as a going to say for example a Liverpool a Tottenham or like a I almost said a big club but bigger than Palace so that' but yeah no I think you make a really important point as well about the centre of midfield I think it's going to be key to this game I think one of Palace's key weaknesses in fact this season.
00:14:52
Speaker
Adam Wharton cannot do it by himself and I'm a big fan of Daichi Kamada but unfortunately I don't think he's the person to sort of play alongside Adam Wharton in the centre of midfield and as you said Alexis McAllister is like a phenomenal player um even if he is ex-brite and I will concede that.
00:15:10
Speaker
and But um I think it's going to be key in the center of the park. What what do you think, Alex? what what Which players do you think Oliver Glazner can utilize to best sort of neutralize the best parts of that Liverpool team or to see? I think you've even said before, it's probably unlikely that it's going to be a very open sort of style from Palace. We're probably going to shut up, shop and park the bus and see, try and get Liverpool on the break. What what are your thoughts?
00:15:39
Speaker
I think just starting in defense, we obviously keep Gary and Lacroix as two of the three defenders. And then I think we bring in Nathaniel Klein and then move Loehmer into midfield. so Purely because Loehmer isn't a defender and he got found out against Everton. And against that frontline, which you've mentioned, we just we need solidity. And Nathaniel Klein does give us that to an extent. ah He is a defender by trade and not an attacking defender. He's a defender-defender, if you know what I mean.
00:16:08
Speaker
um And then I think that just shores up the midfield, like Wharton is at his best when he plays with Decoré or Lormar, not with Kamada, like Finn you said on the other pod, that Kamada's a bit of a liability in that central midfield role. He should be more attacking, which I totally agree with.
00:16:26
Speaker
um So I think that would sure us up a bit and I think we need to stick with that either Klein or Chalibar moving forward, just have that five like um core players basically to build around. In the wingbacks it's going to be Mitchell and Munoz and I think Munoz could get some success down the right, although Liverpool are a lot more solid at the back, um as Adash has said, like which we might struggle with.
00:16:52
Speaker
um But I think that front three of Eze, Mateta and Inketio is where we might get the most success. Inketio, in his first two home games, has been he's really given us a lift in the attack, just what we needed with Elise leaving. um And he's just a bit of an all-rounder.
00:17:10
Speaker
He pops the ball off, gets in the box, can be a real nuisance. And I think with Mateta occupying the two centre backs, he could have some joy there. um I'd love to see him score his first go at Celeste. I think it would give us a massive boost and him like a huge confidence boost. And he is a dangerous player. I just hope Glazner keeps him up for the full 90 minutes this time, rather than subbing him off. like Even if we're losing, like he just he deserves a good run. He's a quality player and he is my man that I'm going to be watching on Saturday.
00:17:39
Speaker
Do you think it's possible, and this has just popped into my head now, but do you think it's possible for Mateta and Inketia to play in the same squad at the same time? Or do you feel that they operate, their their roles are too similar? What do you think?
00:17:55
Speaker
I do. I think for now we we need to stick with that front three because they are great players on their day. And I think they can cause any team problems when they start gelling together. um However, it's just a matter of how long does Glazna stick with it before he probably drops Mateta and brings in Sa maybe as a replacement or pushes Kamada up. They would be the other options. I don't think they're as strong at the moment, but if Mateta's form continues to sort of plateau as it has, its um that will be an option and Katya playing in the striker role but he seems happy playing a bit withdrawn to be honest I think it actually suits him he's quite um you know you can do a lot of he's got a lot of skill sets that you know not just being a striker has in terms of his good technician um he has good awareness so I think playing him withdrawn works for now but yeah we'll see if Matej doesn't start banging them in then sorry he's got to go sorry Joe he's got to go
00:18:53
Speaker
I mean it sort of segues very nicely into my question for Adash talking about strikers because he is probably one of the hardest roles in football because one minute you're on top of the world when you're when you're banging them away and you've got like regular scoring your everyone's favorite person but as soon as that the scoring dries up it can become very easy do to be scrutinized and Adash in terms of Darwin Nunes what do what are your thoughts do you feel and and this is just my personal my personal take, I feel like he might operate in a better way under Arne Schlock than he did potentially under Jürgen Klopp. And do we feel, I mean, he obviously is a very, very talented striker and maybe just the only criticism has been his, well, his scoring, his like his his numbers. He obviously is a fantastic footballer and he's very, some of the the the chances he he manages to make um are spectacular.
00:19:49
Speaker
but maybe just the conversion rate isn't that high. What are your thoughts? yeah no In terms of Nunez, I can probably speak for a lot of Liverpool fans. He's so frustrating to watch because yeah you're right, one minute he's pulling out a worldie against Bournemouth, the next minute he's hitting the post four times against Chelsea. so It's kind of is one of those players, the one thing I can't fault him on, he gets you out of your seat. He's so exciting to watch. um He just causes chaos. we but we have ah I think a lot of Liverpool fans call him Captain Chaos because he's just when he comes on the pitch, he's just he's just so single-minded and trying to do what he's trying to do. um But I feel like with slot, and he's kind of and one of the themes of slot is his calmness and composure. If he can bring that to Nunes when he gets a chance in front of goal, make him composed and
00:20:33
Speaker
work on his finishing. I think you've you've got a real player there. he's got He's definitely got all the attributes to be a top forward um in the Premier League. We've seen glimpses of it. It's just that consistency that a lot of Liverpool fans are ah expecting from him. So yeah, I do think there's a player in there, but I think this season he's got to really make some progress in terms of his consistency and how he finishes his chances um for him to rule be to for him to be a mainstay in this Liverpool team.
00:20:56
Speaker
As you said, I think he just, he needs that sort of, I think even Thierry Henry has made this sort of this um criticism. He needs that ice in his veins almost where like, and I think this is like the the classic thing. we'veve We've all done this when we're playing football, where we're in front of them and we go, oh, I'm going to score. Yes. Oh, fantastic. And then for whatever reason, it goes wide or you just don't hit the ball quickly. I think the the most talented strikers, they almost stopped dead and they're able to just put it away without just almost like second nature.
00:21:26
Speaker
Fantastic. So we're going to take another quick ad break. And when we come back, we're going to compile. We're each going to have and a combined 11 of players who've played in this fixture. And I'm interested to hear what you guys have come up with. So don't go away. This podcast is part of the Global Sports Podcast Network.

00:22:15
Speaker
so I texted you guys earlier in the day so you had a little bit of time to think. i so I struggled this a little bit and you'll probably laugh at some of my additions but I think I just have to put them in because of palace slash Liverpool folklore. But tell me, who who is in your combined 11? Who is in your combined palace slash Liverpool 11? Which players have stood out in this fixture over the years for you persons?
00:22:39
Speaker
Yeah, so like I said offline, I have tried to be as unbiased and as neutral as possible. I could have named a four-level puts. And you really could have. We'll concede that. Yeah, yeah. Hopefully you can concede that. Well, I didn't want to do that. I wanted to um wants to be fair. And I was, you know what? I'm happy with the team I've created. I think they could the team I've got could challenge for the league. um um' I'm deadly serious. and And there's a couple of Palace players you'll in there. You'll be like,
00:23:02
Speaker
But I think I think they can. So in goal, I was struggling, but I did go Allison just because I couldn't think of anyone else. Henderson's had a good start to the season um with Palace, but it's a bit too soon. Right back, I've gone for Klein, given that he played for both teams. And also, you mentioned Klein earlier, I think, at Anfield last season, he played really, really well in that 1-0 defeat to Palace. So I've gone for Klein.
00:23:29
Speaker
I've gone for a centre-back pairing of Van Dyke and Scott Dan. I've gone for Scott Dan because he he scored that winner, I think, a few seasons ago at Anfield as well. I think you guys won 2-1. And do you know what? I remember that day because it was my birthday that day. So, um yeah, Scott Dan unfortunately ruined my birthday that year, but he's in the team. And then I've gone for Robert. He's actually an Liverpool fan as well, Scott Dan. Yeah, he is. Yeah, I do remember him saying that. Yeah, that's true.
00:23:54
Speaker
um So yeah, he ruined my birthday on my but own, but we won't get into that. And then I've gone for Robertson at left-back. I was torn between putting Martin Kelly there because he was also ex-Liverpool ex-Palace, but just not good enough. So I've gone for Robertson. Midfield. So I've gone for one Palace, one Liverpool. I've gone for Benio for Liverpool, because he scored that screamer a few years ago. Also scored a penalty, I think, in a 3-1 win. um It's always been solid in in this fixture.
00:24:19
Speaker
And then I've gone for Yedanak, who I feel like has been a stalwart palace player. He was part of probably some of my most painful experiences at South Horse Park, that 3-3 and that 3-1, which you guys obviously must have. Not the only one, mate. He was part of that to most teams, to be fair. I've then gone, sorry, with Formation, I've gone 4-2, 3-1. I've gone for an African three behind the striker. So I've gone for Salah, Mane, who's prolific in this fixture. I think he scored like nine in a row. And then I've gone for Zaha on the other wing. I thought Zaha caused us so many problems, particularly at Selhurst Park. I think he was just a nightmare. I remember he giving Trent like a couple of just horrible games. So, and he scored a couple of times at Anfield, I think most recently in that 1-1 a few seasons ago. um So I've gone for Zaha. And then up front, I've gone for a
00:25:12
Speaker
I'm confused because I went for Benteke because he's, again, ex-Little Boy ex-Palace, and he's scored a lot in this fixture. But I can't ignore what Dwight Gale's done to us. So I've got to i've got to put Dwight Gale. I go ah feel like every team he goes for, whether it's Palace, I think he had a spell at Newcastle who scored against us twice. He just loves scoring against us. So I've gone for Gale, but special honorable mention to Benteke.
00:25:35
Speaker
Lovely stuff. Yeah, it's not. it's it's Your squad is eerily similar to mine. We'll we'll come we'll come back to that. But but Alex, what what who is in your combined Palace Liverpool 11?
00:25:47
Speaker
I've also got quite a lot of overlap, starting with the goalkeeper, Alisson. Again, I couldn't think of any goalkeeper who's done anything amazing or um who really stands up for this fixture. And Alisson was just like the best goalkeeper I could think of from both teams. I would have gone Julian Spironi, but I don't know how much he played in this fixture. And only on the bases is that I love him and that's that's probably not enough for that.

ah I've also gone for Klein in a three-man centre back, so I've gone Klein, Van Dijk and Gehe. I've just loved Van Dijk and Gehe together. It sounds like a dream like defensive pairing. I don't think many people are getting past that. And Klein, for the obvious reasons, representing both teams. And like I said, i'd ah she played really well last season at Anfield, and that sticks in my memory.

um I've gone for a bit of a weird formation here. So I've gone three, three, one, and then another three up front. So pretty open. um But for midfielders, I've gone for James McArthur as well. I remember him I can't remember that goal when it was. It was a few years ago at Anfield where we completed like 40-something passes before scoring. And McArthur played probably 15 of those passes. He was just everywhere. I don't know if he scored the goal in the end. I can't remember. Finn, you might remember, but I'm not sure who put it in the net that day. I'm pretty sure he got... I think he's definitely scored against Liverpool at least once. yeah Potentially, but yeah, that rings a bell for some reason.
00:27:17
Speaker
Yeah, thinking of midfield as he popped into my mind. So he he seems to always have a good game against Liverpool. um Yeah, in that move, he was influential in Messi, as we refer to him as. Yeah. yeah ah have And then I've gone for Gerrard to just. um Oh wait, how could I forget Gerard? I was thinking about that. asking his head and his hands listeners. ah ah I've probably got him in for opposite reasons though. Oh you've got him in for good reasons haven't you? Bad reasons. Well for you bad reasons. Good for us. First of all his last game at Anfield we beat you guys.
00:27:55
Speaker
Yeah, I remember that. In his his um curtain, you know, drawing the curtain on Gerard's career, we won, which um again is very palace. And also the Kristan Bull. um Actually, see that's probably why I didn't include him in my team now that I think about it. He's probably why I didn't include him. He wasn't the best against us, but yeah, two moments I remember well. um And I've actually gone for Adam Wharton as well. He had a great game. At Anfield last season, it was like his introduction of like this is this is Adam Wharton at his best. He had an absolutely fantastic game.
00:28:28
Speaker
um And I just couldn't leave him out for that. And then behind the front three, I've gone for Firmino. I remember oh fa meo sorry ah remember him scoring multiple times against us. And I actually just loved him as a player. like I was just sad to see him go, but I kind of understood it in that you you guys had just brought a load of new young forwards in Diaz and Nunez and that. But um yeah, I liked him. And I've gone for a front three of Suarez, Glen Murray, and Dwight Gale, which um is enough to terrify any defense.
00:28:58
Speaker
You've got two little men and then Glen Murray knocking it off. um I just... That Murray knockdown for the Gayle goal in the Kristan ball was like... I don't know how he did it, but he's just towered above everyone, knocked it down his chest.
00:29:11

And then Suarez, again, you know, just for the tears at Celes Park. ah Sorry, mate. He's one of favourite footballing memories of all time. I think Luis Suarez, undoubtedly, again, a fantastic footballer, but my God, it was sweet nectar seeing his lovely, i just lovely, new-agwiring tears fall down his face yeah onto to the Croydon turf. You've got a score.
00:29:34
Speaker
Because you guys scored three in like 15 minutes and he was the one who was like, we're going to get seven goals. We're going to get seven goals. Yeah. And it's just like, mate, come on for that turnaround. Like it was just, I couldn't be. I still can't believe it to this day, but it's true. I remember being totally resigned to that, us losing that game. I was like, well, that's it. They've clearly, they're going to win the title now. It just shows you. I mean, that's why I suppose that's why we love the Premier League because like the level of competitiveness and that literally went down to the last day.
00:30:03
Speaker
um Yeah, I haven't really, I'll just, because we're running out of time, I'll rattle my squad off. I've gone for a slightly different keeper. I went for Bruce Grobbelaar, just because I laughed, because I was looking at, I'll be real with you if you. If you've got time, look at the Palace results against liver Liverpool over the years. There's lots of nines and seven nils against us. I thought Bruce Grobbelaar probably had the easiest job in the world to being in the Liverpool keeper in that period. ah Probably didn't have to do very much.
00:30:30

and I went for Nathaniel Kline because he played for both clubs and I think he's ah it's it's really he's a really great player for both both teams and his in his peak. um I went for Virgil van Dijk because again he's played in this fixture loads of times, obviously a fantastic footballer. I went for Damian Delaney just because he's one of my personal heroes and he started the revival against in Kristan Bull. He kicked it all off, my beautiful Cork man, Damo. And then I've gone for Andy Robertson at left back, because again, played in this fixture loads of times, obviously a fantastic footballer. I went for Jeddenac as a holding midfielder. I went for Steven Gerrard. I can't believe I dived and didn't go for Steven Gerrard. That's hilarious. I'm going to get roasted. I'm going to get roasted by little fans.
00:31:14

And then I've gone for another Steve in Steve McManamot. He's played in the he played in the fiction quite a few times in his time at Liverpool. And obviously another great footballer, even though he's a very, very annoying commentator. Then Muhammad Salah again, he really seems to find the net against us some reason seems to always unravel us. I think he's a fantastic forward. Then I had Dwight Gail on the other side, because again, not like the most prolific scorer, unless you're unless you're Liverpool. and just will always be in Palace folklore for what he did at Christian Bull. And then Louis Suarez at the end, because obviously Louis Suarez, again, another really prolific great striker for Liverpool, but gave me arguably my best footballing memory when he was crying on the pitcher. But I think those days are long gone. And I just want to say a massive thank you to Adash for joining us today.
