Introduction to the Podcast Network

00:00:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hello and welcome to the Global Sports Podcast Network and the Daily Liverpool Podcast. My name is Michael, this a solo episode today.

Preview: Liverpool vs Galatasaray

00:00:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
We're going be looking forward to the Champions League game against Galatasaray and we're going to be looking at how Galatasaray have lined up in previous games, what their sort of run of games have been like and what we think Liverpool's line-up will be and maybe i'm I'll throw in a cheeky prediction.
00:00:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
Probably will be quite a... ah quite an ambitious prediction, I reckon. ah feel like we've got this in the bag. But yeah, so to start off, um just to kind of overview, Liverpool have had a great run over the last few games. Obviously, the minor blip against Crystal Palace is not ideal at all.
00:01:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
um But more talking about Galatasaray, they have been on a good run so far this season. They've played in European competitions. They've played um Frankfurt and they lost actually in their last game against Frankfurt.
00:01:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
um They lost 5-1 to a team playing relatively similar to us. um Frankfurt do line up in a similar sort of way as we do. They line up in that sort of 4-2-3-1 formation with a sort of fairly lanky striker at top for sort of roaming, relatively diminutive, um number 10, combative centre-mids, flying full-backs. The whole works.

Galatasaray's Key Players and Threats

00:01:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's very similar to how we played.
00:01:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
i don't know whether Galatasaray had a bit of a stinker in that game or whether they just didn't show up. um they They had some of their big players playing. Not all of them, to be fair.
00:02:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
and They had Leroy Sane playing, Terraria, <unk>ria And Gundogan, as well as Lamina, all all of who have played in the Premier League before.
00:02:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
Gundogan and Sané are obviously the biggest names out of those two. um Some other notable players that play for Galatasaray, Mauro Icardi, that people might remember from his time at Inter inter Milan.
00:02:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah Victor Osserman, who's another good good striker who's played very well in Italy before um and got his move to Galatasaray after being there on loan. um He's only 26. He's a big boy. He's a good runner.
00:02:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
um And actually over the summer, there was a chance that we were going to be in for him um in the sense that before we got Isaac and Ekatsike on those boys, he's a runner in behind. is He likes to kind of get physical with defenders, kind of turn them, make them face their own goal.
00:03:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
So it'll be interesting to see how he kind of adapts to yeah like playing against the likes of Van Dijk. um The last game he played was ah three days ago, twenty six of September.
00:03:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
um e k made an appearance off the bench.
00:03:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
um And I think oh overall, I think him and Icardi are the ones to watch in terms of the striking department.

Liverpool's Defensive Challenges

00:03:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
and We do not want to get be getting caught by a player by players of that quality if we're going to be leaking um leaking goals at the back like we have been over the last few games with with Crystal Palace and all those other teams. like We haven't been particularly solid in defence. When we've got a team like Galatasaray, for a Turkish team, no disrespect to Turkish teams, but
00:04:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
They have a very potent attack, like Leroy Sané, Ilkay Gundogan, Ossaman, Icardi, and they've got a good midfield. like that This is an underrated squad, underrated team that um I think is could could be dangerous, but I have full faith that we will be able to kind of nullify any any threats that they pose.
00:04:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
um Some more players that we should maybe highlight is their summer signing of Leroy Sané. In their game against Frankfurt, he did get an assist, but overall had a bit of a a poor game. a covered He covered about seven and a half kilometres in the 67 minutes he played. So he is running, running back to his best, but he didn't really play very well on that on that right-hand side. Yeah.
00:04:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah um And he's, him and Ilkay Gundogan seem to be, um they get kind of rotated in and out. They seem to start, but then get hooked at sort of 67th, 70th minute, which is interesting to see.
00:05:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
And we obviously know the threat that they both play, that they both pose from the times that they've been at ah Manchester City.

Galatasaray's Form and Home Advantage

00:05:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
um When we kind of look at Sané and Gundogan and all those attacking players, as well as Yilmaz and Akung, I hope I pronounced that right.
00:05:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
Like, these are players that, like, are a little bit unknown quantities, especially the Turkish lads. um Along with the sort of experience that comes with those Premier League winners in Sané and Gundogan, like, we kind of need to be wary of those sort of late runs that Gundogan does. He's going to try and control that play from that 10 position.
00:05:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
And with the likes of Torreira and Lamina behind, who are both very combative, like he's not going to have to do that sort of track and back that he normally would, um which will probably help him be a lot more creative and a lot more dangerous in those pockets. Because If, kind of, Graham Birch switches off, or if any of the defence centre-backs switch off, we know how dangerous Gundingham is with in terms of his running in behind, and his, kind of, probing ah probing at the centre-backs, and he he will be able to find space in behind our midfield too, but
00:06:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
I mean, looking at the Galatasaray are always going to be dominant in their league. um There's just very few teams that can even get close, especially with the turmoil at Fernibache and Pesic Das have been in recently with ah having Mourinho and Solskjaer as their managers. and I'm pretty sure they're both gone now, if not just Mourinho.
00:06:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
um And it'll be really interesting to see they're... if the if the 5-1 against Frankfurt was kind of a fluke and whether their league form is more accurate to how they can be playing or whether they we we maybe just need to kind of take their league form with a pinch of salt when it, when it comes to playing in Europe, it is much different.
00:07:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
But again, like we'll be playing away from home at Galatasaray. It's one of those games that is just, it's dangerous for any away team because like the, the Rams Park stadium is incredibly loud. It's incredibly intimidating and especially for some of the players that maybe don't have the confidence that they need.
00:07:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
um it might be a difficult game to kind of get settled into. I think like I could see players like maybe Florian Verts kind of either having a really poor game or having a really, really good game. Like I think this sort of team that will probably want to kind of make a statement, be on the front foot, they're at home.
00:08:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
He might get a little bit more space in that midfield, especially if maybe um like they they play with Gundogan a little bit deeper, which I'd, Personally, I don't think they'll do, um just because our midfield is very combative, especially if we have Sir Bozly, Gravenberch in there.
00:08:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
like We're going to be sort of running rings around them if if it's Gravenberch and Torreira in the midfield. um But Florian Vert, I want to see him do well. He's obviously not got any meaningful contributions um over the few games he's played. But it still is early in the season and we're looking forward to seeing a bit more of him, seeing him kind of adapt a bit more to the style of play and kind of move forward in in his Liverpool career.
00:08:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
And especially once Izak gets sort of more up to speed and obviously Ekotike can play in this game and he's not suspended. like Once those two boys start figuring out how to play with him, which we've seen glimpses glimpses of throughout um the periods of play, like with Ekotike and him kind of flicking the ball to each other. And Izak is intelligent enough to make the runs that he needs to make um and kind of help Verts out in those situations. And I think and like he could have easily scored on when we played Crystal Palace. like
00:09:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
That one chance that he had where he was literally like four yards ah away from goal, if that, And it just so happened that the cross, he just directed it and Henderson got his hand to it. Like if we if he had scored that, I don't think there would be ah as much pressure on him, but there is. So it's one of those things that we've maybe got a kind of ah keep an eye out for, try and get him to kind of push push a little bit further to kind of get that first goal, first assist.

Midfield Dynamics and Player Roles

00:10:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
Because I think after that, floodgates will open once.
00:10:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
once people know how how he works and how he operates in this new number 10 position, because, um I mean, or as I've said in previous podcasts, all last season, and he was kind of a left-sided 10 out with 210. So he kind of got that left-hand side to himself where he's not being marked by a by a potentially static six and he's kind of being able to kind of move into the channels and stuff, which,
00:10:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
He was playing more as a winger against Crystal Palace, which is something that but he's not he's not a winger. He is an attacking mid and I think he's best in that position.
00:10:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
um But obviously, if you want if you want to get the three big boys in midfield into into the midfield and the player who's going to sacrifice that is going to be Gakpo to fit the big boys in,
00:10:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
um It's one of those things that you kind of have to do. Like if you want to play Gravenberch, McAllister and Subozlai there, like someone has to miss out or Virts has to be shoehorned in or miss out in general, um which i don't I don't think he deserves that really.
00:11:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
um But all of those boys are playing really well. After the break, when we're going to come back, I'm going to talk over what my predicted line-up will be, ah some news about the squad and just a general looking forward and prediction.
00:12:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
Thank you.

Defensive Lineup and Strategies

00:12:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hello and welcome back to the second half of this series solo podcast. um Today we're going to, now in the second half, we're going to be talking about what my predicted line-up will be, um any potential surprises in there and whether how we're going to approach the game.
00:12:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
So to start off with, I think the goalkeeper is pretty self-explanatory, although Mamadash really did play very well in the Southampton game. He was solid, he didn't really put a foot wrong, like it was not much he could do for the the goal that was conceded. um But I think it has to be Alisson. The Champions League is his domain. and Unless later down the line when we're playing, I think it's Carabaque. I think then Mamadash really might come in. But for now, I think it's going to be Alisson.
00:13:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
think centre-back pairing is pretty self-explanatory. Canate and Van Dijk. I think the full-backs, there ah could be a question mark raised. I know that some people haven't been I've been thinking Frimpong hasn't really been playing very well and like um that we should like is any cameo he's made has been poor.
00:13:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
um But I think there's a chance that he could play in this game. There's a real chance that we could get at Gellis Hasry and put them on the back foot. And I think Frimpong is very good at kind of allowing Salah to kind of drift fully in and being in that basically winger.
00:14:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
um But saying that, I think Connor Bradley is kind of cementing his places that start in right back. I think he's kind of the more...
00:14:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
suited right-backed for slot system. He's a lot more physical than Frimpong, just purely off his height and his um athleticism and his build.
00:14:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
um But he's also kind of got that defensive know-how to kind of just stay back a little bit more, where Frimpong likes to bomb forward whenever possible. I think the left-back...
00:14:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
I mean, it could be it could be any either of them. I think Robertson like plays very, very well whenever he gets called upon. so i'm good For that reason, I'm going to go that he's going to probably want to rotate a little bit more.
00:14:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
He's probably going to want to play Robertson, especially if like we we we're wanting to kind of lock down that Galatasaray right-hand side or left-hand side with the likes of Sané playing there. like one He is one of the most dangerous players that they have and we need to kind of keep an eye out for that.
00:15:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
um So I think he's going to play Robertson just to kind of not have any problems with Kirchges being a bit too rash and diving in. um But it'll be really interesting to see what Slott does in that situation.
00:15:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think the midfield too... I mean, Subozlai is undroppable and so is Gravenberg, but then so is

Midfield and Attacking Strategies

00:15:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
McAllister. So it's one of those things that like we've got to kind of adapt to what the opposition is going to be like.
00:15:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
Most likely the opposition is going to play a two of Torreira and Lamina, which are both very, very physical players. um ah they they've kind of When Torreira is playing for Arsenal and when Lamina was playing for Wolves, I'm pretty sure they both play for those teams.
00:15:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
um But they both had kind of reputation for kind of being a bit of some warriors who kind of would get stuck in and kind of win the ball back, which would be interesting to see how that counteracts with Graham Birch and Suboslay or Graham Birch and McAllister, because I think those would be the pairings that would be coming up.
00:16:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
Unless, I mean, there's obviously Curtis Jones, but I think it's going to be one of those three that are going to play. And I think, I think it's going to probably be Gravenberg and Subozlay. I think that's probably the safest bet in terms of Slott loves Subozlay and loves Gravenberg.
00:16:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
but I mean, rightfully so. They both played very, very well recently. um But I think McAllis is probably going to take a step out just because he's um not really...
00:16:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
He's not like, I think that in this game we need kind of combativeness um to kind of counteract their midfield. ah Front three, well, three behind the striker will be Salah, obviously is going to be starting. I think Florian Wurz will start.
00:17:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
um And I think if Chiesa didn't get the knock, because Chiesa hasn't travelled, I think there's a case for Chiesa starting on the left wing over Gakpo.
00:17:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
and But, I mean, saying that, Gagpo didn't really didn't play didn't start um against Crystal Palace, so i think there's I think he'll probably start and play.
00:17:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
um i think Izak is still getting up to fitness. i think there's bi There were videos of him from ah the games that he's played where you can really see he's gassing out, and I think Against Crystal Palace, it would have helped to be able to bring him off at the 60th minute and have an equally as good striker in Eketike to

Team Dynamics and Player Spotlight

00:17:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
bring on. But obviously, um circumstances didn't allow that.
00:17:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
um So I think Eketike will start, but Izak will obviously be brought on. um Or maybe actually saying that now, maybe Slott still wants to prove a point to Ekotike that like it was silly what he did and like he is ultimately in charge. So I think maybe actually I'm going to change my mind and say that Izak is going to start and Ekotike is going to come on in sort of the 70th minute, which will be really interesting to see.
00:18:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
Ekotike wanting to kind of prove himself and whether he does the Firmino go to take off his shirt, but then no, no, no, don don't do it. ah That'll be interesting to see ify if he does end up doing that sort of celebration or seeing how how he tackles the game and seeing if he can make a difference when he does come on.
00:18:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
um Key players to watch out for, I think, are going to be Florian Wurtz. I mean, um I want him to do well. I'm rooting for him. ah i think I think actually Kanate and Van Dijk, Kanate in particular because he's played a bit poor, will be interesting to see if Ossumen does start.
00:18:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
Because Ossumen is like that striker that Kanate and Van Dijk seem to like to play up against when who who are physical in their own right. But Kanate and Van Dijk know where they are. They can kind of keep an eye on them. They can kind of wrestle with them.
00:19:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
um But also Canate has that extra sort of burst of pace to meet Osserman when they do end up kind of spinning in behind and he's got to chase him down. So I think those sort of players will be ones to watch.

Podcast Conclusion and Match Summary

00:19:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
And it'd be really interesting to see how like the team sort adapts and kind of play against Galatasaray. And I'm really looking forward to seeing what they do.
00:19:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
That's it for this episode today. It was a slightly shorter episode, but as a solo one, I hope you enjoyed it. um And yeah, I'll see you next time.
