International Matches and Player Participation

00:00:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hello everyone and welcome to this slightly shorter episode of the Daily Manchester United. It's Kieran here and I thought I'd just start your weekend, or at least your week off, ah by saying, well...
00:00:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
We had our international breaks, didn't we? ah We still have them. ah Mine today, where England are facing Latvia, where we've got Marcus Rashford in the hold there. And on Tuesday, we have Lindelof against Northern Ireland for Sweden. We have Onana playing for Cameroon against Libya. We've got ah James Scanlon coming up against the Czechia in Group L, I believe there.
00:00:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
We've got Ugarte coming up against Bolivia. And we've got Maseroui coming up against Tanzania for... All evening matches there with the earliest one being at Sweden and Lindelof facing up against Northern Ireland. Now, as we already mentioned before, Anana obviously we had a clean sheet against Eswatini. We had Dorghu, Eriksson and Hoyland ah really starring against ah Portugal. In fact, as we record it ten tonight, ah it's still going on right now, that match tonight. So we've got Eriksen, by the way, a goal and an assist for Eriksen here tonight.

Notable Goals and Match Highlights

00:01:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
So that's good so far. The game is still going on and could even go to extra time. So could be could be an interesting one on that occasion. We had Morocco versus Niger.
00:01:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah Morocco heading to Niger and Mazurawi. Well, I think he gets an assist with this, but it's a brilliant Morocco goal. It's a little bit of ah a turn. ah From there, number 10, I think it is. A little bit of a um a roulette. That's the word i'm I'm looking for. A roulette then, which ends up with Masraoua. He then puts a ball into the box and it's headed in.
00:01:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
And that gave Morocco a good advantage there. They eventually won that game by two goals to one. ah James Scanlon also making an appearance there ah this evening, or at least ah last Saturday, 22nd of March, when you hear this. So a couple of days ago against Montenegro.
00:02:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
Unfortunately, it was a loss, I believe, for them. ah Nevertheless, though, it was good to see James get his 11th cap for Gibraltar. And as I said before, there are still games going on as and when. So I'll be honest with you, it could still change. I could say, oh, Ericsson gets himself sent off, but I don't think that's going to happen just yet.
00:02:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah monter negro Montenegro winning by three goals to one against Gibraltar. ledgibraltar did actually take the lead they're in that match unfortunately they couldn't hold on to it though ah james scanon was substituted off at in the game. So unfortunately for him, he didn't manage to complete the game. He came off in the 83rd minute. So a good chunk of match, a good chunk of time spent on the pitch.

Live Commentary on European Matches

00:02:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
We also had the Netherlands versus Spain, which is going on right now. Of course, we've got De Ligt... there a former united player memphis depai has scored from the spot as we say right now uh delict just looking at this i believe is ah this is my live reaction to it is on the bench and hasn't come on to start or hasn't come off the bench just yet as i say this this is 87th minute it's 4-4 on aggregate at this moment in time so again could all change here
00:03:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
It seems to be the the way of it all. But we still have plenty of international appearances from our United players. As I mentioned, tonight it will be England against Latvia, where Rashford, who put in a good performance in the earlier fixture there, it was only 2-0. But still, it is a win.
00:03:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
At quarter to eight on Monday evening, you can catch that one. And as I said before, Tuesday is when a lot of our fixtures play out there. ah Morocco... with Maserawi coming up against Tanzania. So it should be a good one there. If you missed it as well, Hoyland did did score off the bench. I thought i think Nala and I said this yesterday, or at least in the...
00:04:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
Previous episode that he pulled out a Sioux, Cristiano Ronaldo said that he believes that the 22-year-old, Hoyland, of course, wasn't doing it out of disrespect. He was doing it to sort of honour him. And he said he hopes he can ah so help him see the actual Sioux when they came up against ah Denmark there.
00:04:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah Denmark actually leading on aggregate. But Cristiano Ronaldo has scored in that game. So we did see one in the end. He did actually miss a penalty in the eighth minute there. in that game. So a bit of an

Manchester United Players' Impact

00:04:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
interesting one on that occasion.
00:04:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah In terms of, well, Manchester United, it's it's a bit of ah an interesting one. we've We've had a few players there, of course, only Rashford representing England at this point in time.
00:04:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
But I have to say, it's been... I don't know, not exactly lacklustre. Christian Eriksen scored and assisted tonight. So that's a good one in that sense. ah But, you know, it comes down, it boils down to the problem of not many United players are actually, well, appearing for their and for their national teams. I mean, the the the fixture we've got the most in there is, of course, Denmark versus Portugal.
00:05:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
And just to have a look at how things started up, we had Hoyland who started this one. He has been subbed off. ah He got subbed off there in the 73rd minute. And we have Dallot who's come on in the 81st minute in the hen case of, in or in replacement of Trincao.
00:05:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh, sorry, Dallow's come off. Misread that. Fernandes started as well, as well as, as already mentioned, Hoyland started. Dorgu actually started as song as well as Ericsson. ah So again, good to see them starting, good to see them getting minutes for their national team. And obviously, long may that continue. And I hope it does continue for them, for their sake, for their development, especially for Dorgu.
00:05:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
who yeah should be ah should be a good one to to keep your eye on for the foreseeable. I do i do wonder, I do hope that that is the case, that they can all make their their mark here. And as I said, it's a little bit of a shorter episode today.
00:06:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
And of course, lots of things to talk about in the coming weeks.

Upcoming Manchester United Matches

00:06:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
Of course, we have, well, a fixture coming up against Nottingham Forest on the 1st of April. ah Yay is all I can say to that. That kicks off on Tuesdays the 1st of April at eight o'clock.
00:06:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
And to say that I'm not looking forward to it would be a bit of an understatement. I think that would be fair to say. ah we all so We'll see. Nottingham Forest are third and trying to chase a spot in Europe whilst we're trying to make our way back up into the top half.
00:06:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
And we'll see what happens there. As I just see that, Portugal have just scored through Trincao. So it's now level on aggregate once again. ah We're going to take a quick break here. When we come back, a little bit more miscellaneous for your Monday. Monday miscellaneous. I think it could be a thing. We could make that a series.
00:07:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
Maybe we shouldn't. We'll be back after this.

Bruno Fernandes' Achievements

00:07:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
Miscellaneous Monday is rounded off really by Bruno Fernandes picking up a well a club double. He's won Club Player of the Month for the second time in succession.
00:08:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
And he's also won the Manchester United's Goal of the Month. I'll give you no guesses for which one it actually was. yes Of course, it was the free kick against Arsenal. In fact, according to Manchester United's website, ah seven efforts were nominated in the poll.
00:08:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
And Fernandes got four of them. So it's fair to say the odds were in his favour, especially when he puts a free kick in like that. Amazing tool to to see it go in and yeah a boost of confidence. as As we've just been singing Bruno's praises, he's been he's been absolutely brilliant.
00:08:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
And there's nothing nothing short of superlatives. We're running out of them at this stage to just sort of describe how Bruno not only is... How he's playing, but also how he's pretty much saving us at this point and dragging us up the table.
00:08:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
And we've said it time and time again, where would we be without him? And it's a really good question. I think we would be further down the table. ah that that That bit is ah probably the the understatement of the season.

Challenges Ahead for Manchester United

00:09:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
As we head towards the sort of run-in now, we have, obviously we have ah nine games left, I think that is. And we've got Nottingham Forest away. We've got ah the Manchester Derby on the 6th of April. We're at home for that one.
00:09:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah Then we have the quarterfinals, the first leg of the quarterfinals against Olympic Lyonnais. That's going to be a tough fixture. We go away to France for that first one. Matchday 32 in the Premier League. We are go away to Newcastle to to see what we can do there. Sunday the 13th of April.
00:09:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
17th of April is our return leg. We head to Old Trafford to try and finish the job, hopefully finish the job, against Olympic Lyonnais. Then on the 20th of April, that's a Sunday at 2 o'clock, we had we head up against Wolves at Old Trafford.
00:09:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
Matchday 34 sees us away at Bournemouth on the 27th of April. ah Saturday 3rd of May, we'll be at away at Brentford at 3 o'clock.
00:10:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
10th of May on the Saturday, and we host West Ham for our third to last game of the season. Penultimate game the season, we head Stamford Bridge on the 18th of May on a Sunday. Let's see what we can do against Chelsea. And our final Premier League fixture is on Sunday, the 25th of May at four o'clock.
00:10:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
We host Aston Villa to round off the season. Let's just... Let's wrap up. Let's wrap up this season. and you know i think i think it's been a bit dishevelled.
00:10:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think we are at the moment. It's a case of making sure we just don't finish off with egg in our face. i mean, there already is egg in our face. I'm not ah um' not going to beat around the bush about it. You know you you already know. that's probably why you're here. You already know this.
00:10:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
But, hey, we have a few games left. Let's just... Keep our fingers crossed and let's hope for a bit of a run towards the end of the season and and hoping we can pick up as many points as possible. That would be absolutely fantastic if we can do that. um Yeah, I would just love it.
00:11:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'd absolutely love it if we can just keep on keeping on. And yeah, it's going to be a tough one. It is a tough one. And and I hate saying it time and time again, but it's true.
00:11:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's true. um And I know you're bored of hearing it, but it has to be said. It really does have to be said. I mean, a lot's happened this season. and We've had this poor league form.
00:11:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
We're bottom half of the table. We've had cuts to staff and finances. And then we've had, in the same breath, in the same week, talks of a new stadium being built.
00:11:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah it's a little bit give with one hand, take with the other. It's like this, you know, it's a case of trying to have our cake and eat it. It's it's not possible. If we are really in the financial situation that we are, then why are we thinking of a new stadium? Again, these are all things we've covered before, but these are things that keep cropping up.
00:12:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
And I'd rather, you know, not boring things, but, you know, making sure that we we keep... keep on just making sure we, uh, yeah.

Youth Team FA Youth Cup Journey

00:12:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, those same news stories are just going to keep coming around, aren't they? Well, let's have a look. f FA Youth Cup, meanwhile. We don't normally talk about the youth, because normally they should be the ones that are starting these games now, but...
00:12:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
That's buy to buy. ah Semi-final of the Youth Cup at Aston Villa at Villa Park, Monday 31st of March, I believe. and the The only place you can watch is on MUTV, which, of course, you need a subscription for.
00:12:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
According to Manchester United, the website, um the youth team has enjoyed an excellent campaign. in the competition and yeah, it's looking like a good run in.
00:12:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
Let's, let's hope they can, they can really turn up to u Villa Park and yeah, get, get past Villa. Should, should be a good one. Should be a good one. hoping so indeed. And of course, that is where Chido Obi-Martin has really made his mark this season and is part of the reason that he's able to make them the mark that he is. i mean, four teams left in FA Youth Cup, Aston Valera versus Manchester United and Watford versus Manchester City. a Quite a way part for those two. 11 days in between them, but I suppose the final will probably happen in around about May time. So we shall see how that all plays out. Wishing our youth the best and of course,
00:13:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
Whatever happens with with the youth, it's a case of if we win it, great. If we don't, use that as the experience because a lot of people will say, ah we should be winning every trophy. But you you sort of learn more if you lose a trophy than when you win it.
00:13:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
you know It's great having a youth system that comes through and wins the FA Youth Cup. Great. You would think they all... get contracts and make their way up. But it's simply not the case. Whereas if you're not winning the youth cup every year, actually, hopefully that, that should go and and work with you to make your squad a bit more determined and and making sure the job is finished.
00:14:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
I don't know. I could be talking rubbish. That would sound about right for miscellaneous

Reflections on International Break and Future Fixtures

00:14:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
Monday. I don't think it, i I don't think it's going to catch on miscellaneous Monday, but we've talked about international break. We've talked about the FA youth cup. We've once again, talked about how Bruno is saving our skin.
00:14:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
This league season has been a write-off. Europa League, we've got Olympique Lyonnais. Our run-in doesn't look great, but it doesn't look bad. i mean, we've got Chelsea, we've got Newcastle, we've got Forest in those as well.
00:14:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah We've got Villa as well, who are trying to chase the top half off the table as it stands as well. All of them are going be tough games. And yeah, where have you heard that one before? But hopefully this little bit of a shorter episode...
00:14:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
is is a good one. As I record this, Portugal and Denmark has gone to extra time, so we'll see who comes out on top of that and who can have the bragging rights coming back to Manchester United after that one.
00:14:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
