Manchester United vs Bournemouth Preview

Global Sports Podcast Network
Hello everyone and welcome back to the Daily Manchester United. Happy Friday. Yes, you made it. I've got great news. You've got a great weekend coming up. Bad news. We've got Bournemouth. Yeah, I didn't want to break the news to you, but we're away at the vitality.
00:00:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
This should be an interesting one where we take on eighth in the league, Bournemouth, whilst we sat in 14th place looking for that magical 40 points.
00:00:24
Tom Cairns
Thank you.
00:00:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
We haven't got long left to get it. Hopefully we can get it in the next five. My name is Kieran. I'm joined by the graceful Sam Brady. Sam, how are you doing today?
00:00:38
Sam Brady
Very good, very good.
00:00:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
And I'm also joined by Tom. Tom, how are you doing tonight?
00:00:42
Tom Cairns
Hello, folks. Yes, so we we're gearing up for an away trip to Bournemouth, which won't mean anything to us in the grand scheme of things, as we look to build hopefully some bit of morale for when we travel to Bilbao next week. that We shall see. But, you know, hopefully we'll see more the likes of Harry M.S. Tyler Richardson or Frederikson, whoever it may be, in the line on Sunday.
00:01:07
Tom Cairns
and the lineup on sunday
00:01:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, Bournemouth are ah looking for an outside chance of Europe as well. So they'll be looking very tantalisingly at this fixture, hoping for ah

Liverpool's Title Chase & United's Struggles

00:01:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
three points. But I'm hoping we can at least give them what for and try and make it to that 40-point barrier, which obviously we're mathematically safe, if you didn't already know.
00:01:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
um And I've got some bad news for you that Liverpool are now only one point away from... from winning the title. um So the next time you listen to us, be it the Sunday or the Monday, Liverpool could be champions and that's quite depressing. Let's not talk about that right now. Let's distract ourselves ah with some cold, hard facts.
00:01:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's been evidently clear, Sam. We're talking about it along this week as well. We've lacked goals this season.

Transfer Rumors and Squad Analysis

00:01:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
38 goals in the Premier League. That's compared to 52 that Bournemouth have scored and they're in eighth place.
00:01:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
We're in for a couple of strikers in the window that we've talked about already. and One of them now being Liam De Lappe we are linked with. but Who's your dream striker to to bring in and and help our offensive woes?
00:02:08
Sam Brady
Yeah, as you said, Dan, we've been linked with many attackers. And with the one probably most ah dominant rumours at the minute is Matthias Cunha from Wolves. and And to be honest, I think he he would actually be a great sign-in to play off that left. And obviously, he's had a great season for Wolves. And he definitely will move on. And I think if he does come to United, obviously, he has that Portuguese connection, not only with Almorin, but with with Bruno as well.
00:02:37
Sam Brady
um But yeah, I think he i think he will he will help us obviously going forward. But I do think there's still a lot more to do. As you said, we've been linked with Liam De Lapte as well. I mean, if Ipswich go down and I think he has ah about 30 million release clause, it wouldn't be a bad signing for 30 mil.
00:02:58
Sam Brady
I don't know if he's sort of the striker that's really going to take us to that next level. um But we also are sort lacking in that number nine position at the minute. Obviously, Hoyland's ah not had a ah great season at all. Maybe, to be honest...
00:03:15
Sam Brady
Next season for Hoyland, i could i wouldn't even mind seeing Hoyland go on loan for a bit, to be honest. Go on loan um for a club where there's maybe less pressure, where you can start scoring goals again, and then maybe bring him back in a season's time where we're we're sort of more in that rebuild ah process and and maybe bring in a striker next season who who can can really grab the goals, obviously.
00:03:26
Tom Cairns
Thank you.
00:03:39
Sam Brady
um I was talking to a few people as well this week. There's Ossie Men as well, who's on loan at Galatasaray at the minute. And he um if he can maybe patch things back up with Napoli, I'm not too sure. So maybe he he's a player that will be on the market. And obviously, he's a very good goal scorer as well. and I think this season, over the past couple of weeks with Napoli,
00:04:01
Sam Brady
As United fans, we've probably seen the best out of Joshua Zurchi, maybe in that maybe number 10 role, just just behind that striker. Obviously, he's injured now as well, until the end of the season.
00:04:16
Sam Brady
But we saw we we saw it was evident against Wolves on the weekend, where we just don't curate enough. like It's... it's is ridiculous really we keep the ball quite nicely we we have a few plays where you you look at and go okay that looked quite nice and and things you are starting to to see things start as settling in the alma and system and players sort of um look like they know what they're doing in in this setup But if we can't score, like even against Wolves on on the weekend, we're we're going to get punished at the other end and we're going to consistently lose games.
00:04:54
Sam Brady
But Cunha is the one where he looked good against us on on on Sunday, I believe it was. may have been Saturday, my mistake. But yeah, Cunha is the one who can provide the goals and he'll be looking to move on. so So yeah, a few options for us, I think.
00:05:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, a few options. I mean, we we one of them we haven't mentioned, Tom, that so far this week is ah Liam De Lappe. And he's got 12 goals in 32 appearances in the Premier League, which is not a bad return, especially for Ipswich, who Sam said if they go down, it's it's probably more like when they go down rather than if they're hanging on by a thread and they have to rely on West Ham not getting results, which actually at the moment

Transfer Strategies: Past vs Present

00:05:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
is highly likely.
00:05:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
But the point being right now, throwing shade at other teams when we're 14th. Try better, Kieran. is Liam DeLapp. Is it going to be a case of, if we go for Liam DeLapp, are we going to fall into the same trap as Hoyland? Because DeLapp is 22. He's still a developing player.
00:05:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
He's had, you know, this season, the Premier League, absolutely burst onto the scene at the start of this season. But sort of as... championship teams go when they come up. It's very rare for them to keep a hold of that momentum once other teams sort figure out how they're playing and figure out how to stop them more importantly.
00:06:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
So would we be making a mistake if we were to get to Lapp going down the Hoyland route sort of prioritising a bit of youth for a bigger price tag in the hopes that they can you know grow into the role at United?
00:06:20
Tom Cairns
There appears to be this trend where top clubs like Manny Ays have done in the past when they signed Roy Keane when he left a Nottingham Forest side that went down all the way back in 1993. But those days were different.
00:06:32
Tom Cairns
And ah no I know I shouldn't really throw Liverpool into this equation, but do you remember this season after season after season when they bought a player from a relegated club and they usually thrived? That's something that I tend to look at a little bit with players like Liam De Laat because He is a good player in his own right.
00:06:51
Tom Cairns
Would he fit into Man Utd's system? I'm not so sure. Bearing in mind, he is a former Man City Youth Academy player, is Liam. So I'm not sure how that would go down, but that's kind of the same with Jadon Sancho when he was a former City youth before he moved on to clubs like Watford and Borussia Dortmund and all that.
00:07:09
Tom Cairns
But I'm not really sure. I think if they were to sign him, it is probably an adequate decision sum of money, 30 million, given the economy of how football is now.
00:07:23
Tom Cairns
um Yeah, I'm on the fence with this one, to put it in other words.
00:07:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hmm. Hmm.
00:07:28
Tom Cairns
I would maybe look at other options first. as's one player looked at whilst you were speaking, Sam, and that's Xavi Simons, who were a Dutch player who plays for RB Leipzig.
00:07:40
Tom Cairns
He's sort of rumoured, or has a release clause, that of like something like €70 million. euros It may not be a release cause, but that's what he's tipped to go for, should anyone like Mania to Liverpool were sign him.
00:07:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, and Xavi Simmonds, formerly of PSG as well. So it could be an interesting one. I've thought of more of him as a midfielder, but then again, to be honest with you, the whole team could do with a little bit of boost in in all positions. So ah we'll see. I mean, we focus primarily on attack because we've only scored 38 goals. There's a lot of teams around us that have scored a lot more, and one of them being Bournemouth. But let's stop thinking about the future. When we come back after the break, we'll have to focus on the present and try and solve our attacking woes with The weapon we we have now. We'll be back after this.

Premier League Performance Review

00:09:07
Tom Cairns
Thank you.
00:09:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
Our last win in the Premier League, I believe, was against Leicester, where we put three past them on the 16th of March. As you listen to this, it's the 25th of April. So although we've had some good successes in Europe, in the Premier League, we haven't scored since.
00:09:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah So Tom, with the weaponry we have now ah can we have a... so I should say we did score get one against Newcastle, but you know that's by the by. That ruins the whole narrative I'm setting. But how do we sort of...
00:09:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
cope and fix the attack with what we have now? Because it's clear that Amarim's got this system. he's He's sort of locked into it and he's putting the players in. But does anything need to change in terms of player instruction to unlock what we have right now?
00:10:05
Tom Cairns
It depends on who starts him. I mean, there's even one or two YouTubers saying they they should start Chiderebe for this game against Bournemouth. And then this would be ah the kind of game of its magnitude where he could make a difference.
00:10:18
Tom Cairns
I don't know, because if they stick with Hoyland, I can't see the impacts he would make because he was ah he was woeful against Wolves. He just provided nothing whatsoever. And I think Chiderebe did more since he came on than Hoyland did throughout the whole game before he was subbed off.
00:10:34
Tom Cairns
So that's one thing I would amend first. Would I start Fernandes and Mount? I would. I'd probably go with those two, unless maybe switching putting Ericsson in there, just as there's a little bit of rotation.
00:10:48
Tom Cairns
But yeah, i do expect to be more rotational activity going on, heading into the game at the Vitality Stadium on Sunday, because we can't play our whole team against Bournemouth, you know, there's got to be more players in that side that have not had a rest since um the international break that need to be given some minutes off um on the bench, really, before they get brought on by Baruba and

Europa League Focus & Youth Opportunities

00:11:12
Tom Cairns
Emery.
00:11:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, and it was interesting because we put Fernandes on the bench, Sam, to the begin against Wolves and brought him on. And i mean, he didn't have enough time to change the game. But it's clear that Amirim is focused on the Europa League. So maybe this is a perfect opportunity, as as Tom said, to bring in the youth and and give them a chance like we did Tyler Fredrickson against Wolves.
00:11:34
Sam Brady
Yeah, I think this is the perfect opportunity, to be honest, because I think we can all admit the leagues are right off right now. There's there's nothing to play for. And the Europa League is solely what we should focus on. I mean, even in our last segment about talking about who we should sign and who we can bring in, it's all dependent really on whether we get Champions League football. If we get Champions League football...
00:11:56
Sam Brady
then we can go for players of of a more high-profile nature who might come to us to to play in in in Europe. Whereas if we don't, then we might be looking at the players such as Liam, De Laft and the like.
00:12:09
Sam Brady
But I think, yeah, I think we'll see... ah some of the youth come in again, Harry Amas obviously has played quite a few games now this season and looked pretty solid down that left-hand side, I thought Fredrickson for a debut, I mean okay we did lose the game but he didn't put a foot wrong I don't think so he yeah had a great debut and And yeah, we mentioned Bruno there. I mean, that was on ah honestly before that Wolves game. I can't remember the last time Bruno had had a rest before that game. and And to be honest, I know Tom said maybe bring Bruno back in, but why not rest him?
00:12:43
Sam Brady
ah We've got probably our biggest game coming up ah of the season. So I don't see why throw him in against Bournemouth and risk him. maybe an injury or also so on. and so But maybe, yeah, bring in Mason Mount. Obviously, he's not had many minutes this season and and his appearances have been sort of off the bench. So maybe give him a start. and And I agree with what Tom said. I think this would be the perfect opportunity to play Obi as well up top. I mean, I think we've said it all season on this podcast and throughout where
00:13:17
Sam Brady
we wanted to see Obi get more minutes since his introduction and into the first team. And he hasn't really got got the opportunities that I think we we expected. And I think Almorin's put a lot of trust in Hoyland when maybe there there's been a lot of question marks there.
00:13:33
Sam Brady
But if he is going to start Hoyland, which we obviously fully expect against Bill Ball as he's our only striker at the minute, it senior striker, then again, why not rest him against Bournemouth um And to be honest, I don't see the game really being that exciting um of a game, to be honest. that I mean, Bournemouth aren't on great form themselves. I think they drew to Ipswich. They drew to Crystal Palace last game. I think they might might have lost to to West Ham as well.
00:14:05
Sam Brady
um So, yeah, they're not on great form even. And their European hopes are sort of hanging on by a thread as well, to be honest. So, I don't see it to be an exciting game.
00:14:17
Sam Brady
And obviously with our biggest game of the season coming up, and an away trip at Bilbao, then I fully expect a lot of rotation again, like against Wolves.
00:14:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
See, the thing is, i've got to remember now, because I'm pretty sure Cedro Obi-Marten isn't registered for the Europa League. So it makes even more sense to start him in the Premier League game and give him a chance. so at least then it gives Hoyland a rest because he's going to be starting in the Europa League no matter what, because we don't have really any other fit strikers. I mean, you could try and put Garnaccio up front or...
00:14:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
you know try what um what Ten Hag was trying to do. You play either Fernandes or Amount as a false nine and try and get away with that. um Makes sense to put your top goal scorer up front in terms of Bruno Fernandes, doesn't it? Try and get some goals out there. But Fernandes is not a striker. We would have to get that um i have to get that out of my head. But yeah, I'm expecting a bit of rotation, a bit of youth given a chance, because that's what this club's all about, you know is is bringing in the players. And what was it that Ferguson said? ah It's something like, ah as long as you have...
00:15:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
Eight players that can lead the team. You can have three youth players to to know get you through the match. And you need the eight around you to make sure you get the match across the line. And it just makes sense to to bring in the youth. this is It's crying out. if If there's ever an excuse to try and put some faith into the youth, it's now when you've got nothing to play for in the league, absolutely nothing at all. Top half even seems like a distance at the moment. I mean, when we get to the start of next season, we might go into meltdown depending on what the signings are.
00:15:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
in the summer. But not looking great now. Hopefully it will improve and hopefully an away day to Bilbao will be the answer to, well, at least our woes in front of goal.
00:16:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah But that's after the Bournemouth game. We've got to focus on the Bournemouth game.
00:16:06
Tom Cairns
Thank
00:16:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
And when we come back after this short break, we're going to try and piece together what we think is the 11 that's going to go um to the Vitality and try and get us into that magical 40 points. Did you ever think you'd be hearing that?
00:16:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
Neither did I. We'll be back after this.

Right then, predicted 11 time for this United side should be an interesting one because goalkeeper, I don't think he's going to be as cut and dry as it has been for the past couple of weeks. I'll start with you, Sam. Who you putting in goal?
00:17:12
Sam Brady
um I'm going to go with Anon. I think, I mean, obviously, Bayern Deer came in against a Newcastle game in Almor and did say it would just be a one-off game and and he did stick by that.
00:17:22
Sam Brady
and But i will sort of preference this starting XI by saying it it's a similar theme with but what I've said throughout previous podcast episodes where what I think is going to happen ah and what I would want ah to happen might might be a little different. But yeah, in goal, it'll be Anon.
00:17:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
Are you agreeing with that, Tom, or perhaps a surprise in there?
00:17:44
Tom Cairns
No, I'll agree with Sam on this. I think Anana is the one that needs to be but between the sticks. He didn't put a foot wrong in the game against Wolves, I don't think. And I don't think he did either against um Leon. So I would probably start him in net for this one.
00:17:58
Tom Cairns
um So we'll head on to defence, I think. Kieran, I'll let you take the lead on that.
00:18:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, going to say three for three for Inanna. But there we go. So back three then. I'll i'll swing it to you, to you Tom. ah Who's the back three? Who's your centre-back starting this one?
00:18:11
Tom Cairns
It doesn't feel like there is a lot of choice. i think due to his personal circumstances, it wouldn't be at all surprised see Lindelof not be involved in the matchday squad for this. um I would probably go... you may disagree with me on this, Sam, but I just don't feel like we've got a lot of choice in that centre-half role unless there's any youth academy players that can play there.
00:18:31
Tom Cairns
But it's probably going to have to be... who do we have? It's probably going to be Maguire, De Ligt and... um Yoro in the back line, in the back three.
00:18:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
of Sam, go for it.
00:18:46
Sam Brady
Yeah, I mean, would throw De Ligt in there, but ah i'm not I don't know if he's going to be fully fit for for the game um on Sunday. But what I will say is I mean, I actually didn't know about Lindelof's situation. So with that in mind, I'm going to go. i think, to be honest, I think Fredrickson didn't put a foot wrong against Wolves and I wouldn't be surprised if ah if us if we saw him.
00:19:11
Sam Brady
So I'll throw him in there. um
00:19:15
Sam Brady
I think Johnny Evans is is also, he was also on the bench against Wolves and and he's he's also and back fit. He was unused a again against Wolves.
00:19:27
Sam Brady
maybe with I'd like to see him in there and and i'll go i'll go with i'll I'll go with Johnny Evans. And then in that back three, think, do you know what? I think Lenny Orr was on the bench. Maguire was on the bench.
00:19:44
Sam Brady
I think he'll go Maguire. I think he'll play Maguire in the in that back three. So, Fredericks and Maguire and Johnny Evans, I think, might make an appearance.
00:19:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
Sam, I've got to tell you, um its ah it's probably a really good three you've picked there. More so that you've picked Evans. So Nile and Peter are going to be absolutely ecstatic considering their episode yesterday it was all about the Irish influence at Manchester United. They're going to be thrilled with you. um Yeah, I think if if he's fit, I think Johnny Evans starts.
00:20:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
um But I'm sort of thinking, looking when the last home game will be for Manchester United, because who knows what's going to happen with Johnny. at the end of the season. I think he's 37, if memory serves me well.
00:20:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
um Yeah, 37 years old. I mean, he's he's done a service to the club. He's done more than his three-month initial contract could ever have have done for Manchester United. um Yeah, he's he's been really good whenever he's actually played.
00:20:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
So i I'm going to agree with you. I think that's ah just a solid line-up. You said Evans, Fredrickson and Maguire, did you say
00:20:41
Tom Cairns
Yeah.
00:20:41
Sam Brady
McGuire. Yeah.
00:20:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think, yeah, I think you're onto something there, Sam. He's cooking. He is cooking. Why don't you keep cooking and and tell us your wingbacks?
00:20:47
Tom Cairns
yeah
00:20:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
What are you thinking?
00:20:50
Sam Brady
Yeah, well, I went with Maguire and Evans because I think that gives Fredrickson sort of the experience next to him to sort of coach him through the game. And then my full-backs, I'm going to go with Masrawi, I think, might come in at right wing-back because then that that gives the opportunity, if Almorin wants to take it, to rest Orgu for Thursday night.
00:21:11
Sam Brady
And then Amas, I think, will will start again off the left. um Whether he goes with that, obviously...
00:21:15
Tom Cairns
Thank you.
00:21:18
Sam Brady
Dorgou and Masrawi, they're all interchangeable, considering Masrawi can also play at centre-half. So I wouldn't be surprised if Masrawi plays centre-half like he did against Wolves. Zamerin favours Masrawi, likes him at that centre-half position.
00:21:35
Sam Brady
But if I'm going with my managerial head, I rest Dorgou, put him on the bench, Masrawi on the right, Amas on the left.
00:21:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
Tom, you've got to put your managerial head on now. Wingbacks, what are you thinking?
00:21:46
Tom Cairns
I will agree with Hari Amas. I was thinking Luke Shaw, actually, because he's only just come back from injury. I thought he'd maybe get some more minutes under his belt just so that he can provide himself as a ah genuine option. and But Hari Amas, I would probably maybe give him some more minutes on that left-hand side and maybe bring Luke Shaw on in the second half to replace him.
00:22:04
Tom Cairns
The right-wing back role, you could go with Delo, but I'm going to agree with Sam on this one and go with Matsurari because I think Delo deserves a rest as well. And we definitely need An-Moe. Overall, this season, he hasn't been great.
00:22:14
Tom Cairns
But think in the last two or three matches, he has been better than they expected. And I think he deserves a rest for this one before the trip to Bilbao. So I go with Mats Roy on the right wing back role.
00:22:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
That's interesting. i was actually thinking Dallot to go there in an attempt to rest Masraoui to be playing as the centre-back role for the Europa League game. So we've all got a different mindset there. But I agree with you on the left-hand side with you both.
00:22:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
Harry Amas is probably going to start there. I probably think Luke Shaw will be subbed on at 60 minutes at left-back, if all goes to plan, um just to give him some minutes on the football pitch. Because when he came on against Lyon...
00:22:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
Didn't have the greatest game, so get some confidence back in. in Half an hour against Bournemouth should hopefully do the trick, fingers crossed. um But i think it right back I think it is going to be Dallow. I think it'll be subbed off in the game, potentially replaced by Dorgu, just to make sure they keep the fitness up. um That's what I'm thinking. Holding midfielders, I'll come to you, Tom.
00:23:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
Are we going creative or anchor? What's what's the thinking?
00:23:11
Tom Cairns
Is Toby Collier fit at the moment? Do we know?
00:23:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
haven't seen him on an injury list.
00:23:16
Sam Brady
um He wasn't on the bench against Wolves, so that makes me think he's he's still injured at the minute.

Tom Cairns
I was tempted to throw him in, but if he's not fit, then he won't start. um So I don't want to see Ugarte starting or Casemiro starting for obvious reasons, because Casemiro isn't going to have the legs for both games. he We need him for the game against Bilbao.
00:23:41
Tom Cairns
I think you'd probably have to go with Ericsson because of the lack of options and maybe Mainou. I think Mainou would be nice to see in that CDM role. So I would probably go Ericsson and Mainou in the defensive midfield roles.
00:23:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
Sam?
00:23:55
Sam Brady
Yes, so it all depends what he wants to go, whether he starts ah like he did against Wolves in that mate in that advance role for Maynou or whether he drops Maynou back and takes one of the Gartey and Eriksen out.
00:24:12
Sam Brady
Just because I think Ugarte gives you more of that defensive stability and we are obviously playing one of one of the top teams this season in Bournemouth. I think he will stick by his two that that started against Wolves in Eriksen and Ugarte.
00:24:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
Interesting. Yeah, I get what you mean, Tom. ah If Casimir is going to start a game, he's going to prioritise being in the Europa League rather than anything else. um I was thinking potentially dropping Manu into the deeper midfield.
00:24:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. play Ugarte alongside Mainu in the heart of midfield and and see how that goes. Because I feel like if you're playing Ericsson and Mainu, you've got two pretty creative players, but you haven't really got anyone covering. I think Ugarte, when he's been on, he's been okay in that holding midfield. I know the jury's still out on him, but I think he's been okay.
00:25:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
So I think it's going to be Mainu and Ugarte in the heart of that midfield. See, this predicted 11, we're not going to agree on all all positions all the time. So let's move it swiftly on then to attacking midfield.
00:25:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'll come to you, Tom.
00:25:14
Tom Cairns
I think Mason Mount is a slam dunk. I would expect him to start there. You could play Ericsson, but I put Ericsson in the CDM role, didn't I?
00:25:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
Mm-hmm.
00:25:24
Tom Cairns
Alongside Maynou. So I'd probably have to go with who's available in that role. I know obviously Fernandes is, but we need to be resting Fernandes. And i think you emphasised that very well, actually, um Sam.
00:25:37
Tom Cairns
um Who else could we play there?
00:25:40
Sam Brady
That's gone up, Joe. Hmm.
00:25:41
Tom Cairns
Okay, yeah. I mean, my issue with Garnaccio is that he doesn't really impress me on that left-hand side anyway. So I'd put Mount on the left-hand side of the attacking midfield and Garnaccio on the right.
00:25:52
Tom Cairns
I think if Garnaccio plays on the right-hand side of that attacking midfield, he'll be more effective and more efficient. So that would be the two I'd go in that attacking midfield.
00:26:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
Well, I assume, Sam, you're benching Fernandes to rest him, but how's your attacking midfield looking?
00:26:07
Sam Brady
I am. I am, definitely. and And again, with these sort of wing backs on or number and sorry, wingers or number 10s, they're quite interchangeable. Like a preference that ah ah at the start of of the starting 11, what I'd like to see and and what I think we'll see is is slightly different.
00:26:27
Sam Brady
So what I'd like to see is is mount off that right ah hand side I think Mount just needs to get a start and under his belt at the minute. I think he's been coming off off the bench, which is great.
00:26:37
Sam Brady
But I think it's it's time now that he starts a game and hopefully doesn't get injured straight away. And then I'd like to see Mainu off that left-hand side as well, because same with Mainu. He came...
00:26:51
Sam Brady
He obviously came on against Leon in the second leg and had a massive impact, and that was sort of his return. And then he started against Wolves and and played pretty decent. um So I'd like to see a Mount and Maynou on the wingers slash number ten Whether he starts Mason Mount, I'm not too sure.
00:27:12
Sam Brady
i mean, if i if I was him, I'd start Mason Mount and rest Garnaccio because he clearly favours Garnaccio and really ah really likes Garnaccio.
00:27:23
Sam Brady
So I think he will actually stick with the Garnaccio menu on the wings. But as as Tom said, and I think we we can all agree here that i'd like we'd all like to see Mason Mount get his start.
00:27:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think he's... See, I'm going the other other direction. We've already talked about how you've got to have sort of... So the ratio is 8 to 3 in terms of senior players who can lead on the youth players, which is I kind of think is why Fernandes will probably start. It's it's probably not what i want to happen, but I think Amarim will start Fernandes.
00:27:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
And I think he'll start him alongside Mance. with Garnaccio coming on, potentially for Fernandes, potentially for Mount, if there's any injury concerns. I just genuinely see Fernandes starting the game because I think you you still need the quality there. It's not like you can throw away the entire league just ah just like that.
00:28:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
And Fernandes has been our best player so far this season. and if if ah It's our best chance to get Well, up to 40 points, which is is not a sentence I wanted to say four five months ago.
00:28:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
But it is the sentence I'm saying, and our best chance doing that is with Fernandes on the pitch. So I'm going to Fernandes and Mount, as mine predicted. Are we all in agreement then? No, maybe not in agreement on who starts up top.
00:28:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'll come to you, Sam, first.
00:28:39
Sam Brady
Yeah, just just on that Bruno situation, to be honest, I but i would not be surprised at all if Bruno Fernandes does start. I mean, it's very rare he misses one game, let alone two games. So if he does start, I wouldn't be surprised.
00:28:54
Sam Brady
But if anything happens to him, that game, that will be on Amaran's head and ah and all of us, I think, will be out with our pitchforks out before that Bilbao game. and But yeah, in in that number nine position, as I've said, i and as I think we've said during the episode, I think I'd like to see Obi get the start, to be honest. that I think this is, as we've said, it's the perfect game for him. There's nothing to play for. Bournemouth aren't on great form.
00:29:22
Sam Brady
He hasn't... ah He hasn't actually started a game yet, Obi, front. So I'd like to see Obi. Whether I think he will, absolutely not. I think Hoyland is probably going to start up top.
00:29:34
Sam Brady
But yeah, I'd like to see Obi, hopefully.
00:29:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
Tom, what are you thinking up top?
00:29:39
Tom Cairns
Obi.
00:29:41
Tom Cairns
one um One word. Yeah, one word answer.
00:29:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
Nice.
00:29:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
Nice. I like that.
00:29:43
Tom Cairns
I'm going to go with that.
00:29:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
Short and sweet and to the point. I kind of i want to see Obi start the game. But there's something in the back of my head telling me he's going to put Garnac up front. And I don't know why.
00:29:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
i don't know why I'm thinking that. Maybe we'll we'll look back on Sunday and think what an idiot I am. But there's a potential that he could put Garnac to start up top. But... I want it to be Obi because I think, you know, when he's come on he's looked great. He's looked positive. He hasn't got the goal yet, but he's showing all the hallmark hallmark signs of a striker that is hungry for a goal and keen to impress. And that's what we want from our strikers right now. Someone who has the confidence behind them and surely a goal can come along because of that.
