Speaker: All right. Hi, everyone, and welcome to Versailles 6101, where we discuss everything about the world of Psyche and the antics of Sean and Gus in sunny Santa Barbara. I'm Skylar, this is my partner, Beckett.
Speaker: And today we'll be talking about season four, episode five of the famed TV show, Psyche. Sean gets the yips. ah Okay.
Speaker: This is one of those episodes where I was like, I remember it, but I don't remember it. If you know what I mean. Like, I remember the restaurant scene very clearly.
Speaker: But who did it? I couldn't remember who did it until like halfway through. Oh. Which I was like, why is that? Because I do really like this episode. Maybe it's just like not... We've been talking a little bit about like how psyche everything's been getting and it's like very goofy silly and this isn't quite that.
Speaker: Yeah, well... yeah Yeah, I do feel like there are some moments in this episode that feel like other episodes that not yeah not even ones that happen yet. Like them sneaking through the parking lot when they're trying to hide from... That was so like the aliens episode. Yes. That really remind it felt very familiar, but from a different episode. So maybe just moments like that, like it is starting to be...
Speaker: later seasons psych yeah so yeah Yeah. And there's so much going on really in this because there's that opening like set piece of a scene with the yeah shooting which is like we don't get you know super intense stuff like that all the time. There's like that whole thing and then the baseball or softball that they're doing and Sean's therapy and like and the drug dealer. like There's like so many elements.
Speaker: Yeah. it It definitely felt like A lot was going on in a short period of time, but I didn't i didn't necessarily feel overwhelmed. Like sometimes when there's too much happening, i like it's hard to follow.
Speaker: It all kind of came together well, but it was definitely like, oh, we're over here. Then we're over there. Oh my God, what's happening? Like, but you know? Yeah. It almost like felt intense, you know? Yeah. I mean, this is only in episode five, right? Because it almost feels like a mid-season finale or something like with um yeah what's his name Tancana like it has that kind of and you know there's just like a lot going on and there were stunts and yeah yes yes which maybe they're just you know they're so established at this point maybe they can do all of that in just you know a regular episode which is love that for them yeah yeah i I do also love
Speaker: like i always I always think to myself, i always just wonder, especially with Psych, because everything feels very intentional. like But sometimes they have these little things that they just like throw in like Goochberg. Yes. like why Who was like, we should make this a SBPD softball team that's going to play against the haircut hut?
Speaker: Hilarious. So funny. it's It's such a great, like, know like kind of procedural meets sitcom again there's something about it yeah that just like makes it it really it takes them out of their usual you know murder a week yeah and it it almost it's like the workplace comedy element of what this show is o which is so fun to like have spend time on that and see them in their community and yeah the haircut hut which are also like
Speaker: I love that whole group. They were fantastic. Yes. Very colorful personalities, which is like cool. I loved seeing their, their hairstyles. Yes. Yes. yesly and literally yes Yeah. They have like such cool hairstyles and like dyed hair and yeah, just so fun and such a like kind of throwaway thing. But of course they add so much character and personality to it as like often does.
Speaker: Yeah, they're only is it for like five minutes. Yeah, maybe. But it's like, yeah, it's it is really fun. Should we go to the flashback? Also a very fun flashback. Oh my gosh. I loved this flashback. We are in the front yard, backyard near the water.
Speaker: and i'm right henry And Henry and Sean are essentially like playing catch, but with target practice. And I say that very much so literally because Henry puts a shooting target behind the club. If you think about it, I don't know. This is so Henry, like in so many ways. But the idea that.
Speaker: playing catch going over some baseball skills yes henry would take it to this level of course of course well because one day his aim needs to be that accurate yeah weapon one day you know you never know this is true so henry puts a glove a glove on a shooter target and he you know steps a little bit away from sean shanson his cutie boy like baseball uniform And Henry is you know saying, okay, I'm going to like pitch it to you. You're going to catch it. And then you're going to turn and throw it into the glove that is on the shooting target distance away.
Speaker: And and and i love that when Henry was like, you ready, son? Sean goes, I'm born ready. And he goes, actually, you were born breech, son. It took hours to get you out. I know. I love that. I wrote that tattoo.
Speaker: ah Such a funny. So funny. and I feel like. I was really admiring Corbin Bernstein's performance for that oh because it's so like serious like he's just very actually born in reach and then he just keeps runs right into the yeah the so Henry the delivery was so Henry yeah yeah
Speaker: Yeah, like serious but silly but also not silly. Like he did not deliver it in a silly way. Yeah, but the like the manner or like the timing of which he delivered it is like hysterical. It's just so good.
Speaker: ah And so then they play catch. You know, Henry like throws the ball to him. sean catches it throws it right in the center, dead center of the glove. Beautiful. And Henry is so proud. He's like, whoa that was great.
Speaker: Let's try it again. and then gives him like all of these instructions to just... Overwhelming. Yes, so overcomplicating. And he, as he was doing this, I was like, oh, is this...
Speaker: We know that sometimes the flashbacks are like foreshadowing for what the episode is going to be. And because I only like half remembered the episode, i was like, oh, is is the premise of this episode going to be Sean gets the yips? Is he going to be like overthinking everything and therefore kind of off?
Speaker: That would be a really interesting take on that idea. what like right psychic yips? The psychic yips. and That's going to be the title of this episode. The psychic yips. Which he does not get in this episode, but no would be interesting to see. i guess we sort of see him...
Speaker: Well, okay. I have this thing where whenever I see an athlete that's doing bad, I'm like, oh, do they have the yips? And my husband's like, no, the yips that are a very specific thing. so what are the yips then? Let's look it up. Okay. Because I just interpret them as like, youre it's like ah like a writer's block almost, but for athletes, if you will. I think similar. I think it's like they completely like forget like how to do what they are, what they do.
Speaker: um there is a Bob Burgers episode about that okay um I was about to say we see Sean like get the y like we see him struggle but that's not it like it's not just like you know like having a yeah you know everybody makes errors or whatever everybody makes mistakes have those days yes they do i actually think that would have been really interesting to get like you said a psychic yips episode because ultimately even when sean's like wrong or he's like kind of off there's usually like an explanation for why he's wrong or he's off it's not like he loses the ability to be hyper observant
Speaker: I feel like that would have really instigated a very interesting crisis. in Yeah. Not that I want him going through crises, but. Yeah. I wonder if that's, we can't even go there, you know, because we do see him make mistakes, but usually it's like, it's not even a mistake or it's like, he's dancing around what it actually is. Like he's still on the right track. Right. um But that would be like an existential, which I think is that is kind of what it is. Like, yeah.
Speaker: an existential crisis, like you said. so this says the YIPS, this is Wikipedia, the YIPS are a psychoneuromuscular impediment, a sudden and unexplained loss of ability to execute certain skills in experienced performers.
Speaker: wo And I was thinking as you were talking about the flashback, it occurred to me, like, is this the start of his mental block with fielding?
Speaker: Because he has Henry in his head kind of like ah overcomplicating it, as you said. But that also is not the yips. Right. The yips would be if he was...
Speaker: a very skilled fielder, and then suddenly could not field anymore.
Speaker: So does one have to be extremely skilled in order to get yips? think so. Would we consider experienced? performers I guess they have to just be experienced.
Speaker: Okay, so like essentially just know how to do the thing well. Yeah, they have to. I think, yeah, they have to be able to do it well and then suddenly they can't do it anymore. But like, would we consider Sean experienced? I feel like that is part of the joke of the episode that he believes he is a top performer in softball and thus... This is the yips, but I feel like probably it's not.
Speaker: Actually, right, in actuality. Okay, I think that's fair. I do think it also makes for a a fun, like, running bit throughout the episode.
Speaker: um Yeah, for sure. And I love the little therapist guy. Yeah.
Speaker: Symptoms of the yips are losing fine motor skills and or... proprioception or being affected by psychological issues such as performance anxiety that impact the muscle memory and decision making, leaving them unable to perform basic skills.
Speaker: Okay. That's interesting.
Speaker: But I wonder, like we, I feel like we get the impression that he's never really been, that's never been his skill set. Like he is a good hitter. But, and so i I feel like the sports psychologist is probably,
Speaker: useful to him because he maybe maybe that flashback was when he kind of just started overthinking that element of the game sure and he had to stop doing that yeah but it but i don't know that it was like he was really good at it and then suddenly he couldn't do it anymore right well then also it does kind of feel like something sean would do is just say like oh oh it's not me exactly yips
Speaker: I'm actually great. I'm good. I'm good at this. Yeah. Even to say he has the yips, I feel like adds a mystique to what's happening. yes I am so good. Yeah. Actually, that I can get the yips. Right. You know, like only skilled top performers can get the yips because they are very good. And then suddenly they don't know how anymore. Yeah. So, yeah. he And he milks it.
Speaker: Oh, so. Delightfully Sean way. Yes. I know. I love when, um like, I guess i'll we'll talk about it when we get there, but I love when Vic is like, is anyone in need of the department like psychologist for trauma after this shooting that you were all part of? And Sean was like, yes, but my sports psychologist. And she's like, no.
Speaker: Vic's like, absolutely not. That does not apply to Mr. Spencer. And love, since we're on the topic at the very end, when Sean's like, and you'll... Oh, the the sports psychologist was like, and you still want me to build Chief Vic, right? She's like, yeah, and we're going to call this drama therapy. He's like, you got it. I love that the therapist is on board. Of course. that's on it.
Speaker: So, yeah, so the big thing with this episode or the big through line is that we start off back in present day at a restaurant. Do we get the name of the restaurant? Because I don't have it down. But I just know that Sean frequents it six times a week. Yes, I wrote that down too. you That's so interesting.
Speaker: i mean, they go to so many different places. But it's funny to imagine him going here and like having like a sit down meal. Yeah. Yes, i agree. Six times week is he getting takeout?
Speaker: Yes. but They do feel like food on the move, people. They do. I feel like with the cuatro quesos, those fritos, was that like they were eating there and then they were interrupted, right?
Speaker: Like we saw them eating it there. Yes. At the restaurant. Yes. and but However, we have also seen them to go because we know they don't yeah travel well. And was that, did they take it to go or did they order it to go? I can't remember. Ooh. Or maybe they ordered it to go to give them to Vic.
Speaker: Yes, it was to give them to Vic. However, did they start them and then bring the leftovers to Vic or did they order them alone for Vic? That I'm not sure. I've seen, and I feel like they do do both. They just like enjoy food and they do what they got to do. So they will go and have a luxurious meal somewhere to sit and hang out and they will get things and just be walking around town. And I think we have seen Yes. But six times a week at one place was like, wow. That is a lot.
Speaker: Yeah, my thought was like, I could definitely picture Sean being the kind of person that like wants to be a food challenge at a place. once He says in here, the pizza, chili, cheese, fries that aren't named after me. Like I could see him frequenting a place specifically for that purpose for like a month until they name it after him and then he leaves. Yeah.
Speaker: Yeah. So maybe it was something like that. and I don't know. But they are there for a celebration after their game, softball game, with the haircut hut.
Speaker: And Sean's giving this big speech of, like, how well they played today and... um And Gus is like, we nearly lost because of you, actually.
Speaker: Sean's like, you know, I have a condition. It's called the yips. And Lassie goes, it should be called the socks. Honestly, in this case, probably. Like, that's probably. Yeah, probably.
Speaker: Something else. um But I did write... not even like two minutes three minutes into this i was like the gang's all back together everyone's there including buzz which i haven't seen buzz in forever yeah it is fun to see them all together and then it's buzz's birthday too i know buzz buzz is just so sweet like just talk about the puppy dog like he just wants to help everybody is just always in a good mood just there for the ride you know he's just happy to be included
Speaker: So they're sitting down eating. They are waiting for their food. They're celebrating Buzz's birthday. Sean orders this pizza chili cheese fries that he never gets. So he gets up to complain about the fact that he's been waiting for his pizza chili cheese fries. And while getting up to get his food, he notices a suspicious, I'm going to say prowler.
Speaker: Sure. Just kind of standing there. as a so Suspicious prowler in the restaurant. looking about. He's got like a black hoodie on. He's got his hood up. He's got his hands in his pocket and he's just kind of standing and a baseball cap.
Speaker: He's just kind of standing and generally just very, very suspicious when suddenly Sean clocks that he also has a weapon in his pocket. So Sean rushes over to Lassie to try and get his attention, but they're also in the midst of singing Buzz Happy Birthday, of course, which is such an incredible sequence.
Speaker: Like so good drama of the building music and the singing and everybody like separate from what Sean is going through. Yes. Trying to get their attention like no one really listening. Like I also just love Jule Hill's harmonies in the happy birthday song like beautifully sung. So
Speaker: And, yeah, no one really wants to listen. Lassie's trying to, like, you know, shoo him away until says that he has done. love that he goes to Lassie. Yes. I made a note, like, that Lassie's the guy here, you know? Yes.
Speaker: Of course. And I wonder if that was, like, i i wonder what the thought was there for Sean. Like, did he think, okay, Lassie's going to be the one to take me the most seriously the most quickly? Lassie's going to be the one to best handle the situation? Like,
Speaker: why lassie and not like jules or any of the other cops that were currently sitting yeah there um i think it is because lassie's gonna handle it i mean he is the lead he does and he has the he's the lead seniority he's the lead of everybody there he is the the head of that's true that's um and he also like you know I don't know what Sean anticipates going down, really, but um
Speaker: he's a marksman. That's true. Also, say?
Speaker: ah what did they say So I made a note. None of us are packing. And Lassie whips out two guns. Two weapons. Maybe Lassie's old... Maybe Sean also anticipated that nobody else had a weapon. Oh, that makes sense. I can imagine Lassie... But Lassie, course, did. Yes, I can imagine he doesn't go anywhere without a weapon. I mean, we we know he has one in his shower. Like... Well, it's like in...
Speaker: In a extra extradition British Columbia, he's like, I have enemies everywhere. Like he can't, you know, yeah it would be dangerous for him to go somewhere. And I guess rightfully so. it did come in handy. Apparently he does have enemies everywhere. Yes. He's got that little black book. you got to be careful. Yeah. um So what also, now that I'm thinking of of it, did Lassie fire first?
Speaker: Or did the perp fire first? I think the guy did. But, well, let's pull it up here. Yeah, the guy fires first. He does. After Lassie yells freeze at him.
Speaker: Yeah. Okay. and Does Lassie already have his guns out? Let's watch that again. We gotta watch like frame by frame.
Speaker: Because I think the guy draws first. Okay. And has the gun. And then as Lassie observes that and is standing up, he draws. Okay, okay.
Speaker: That makes sense. And it's like gunshot from the guy and then Lassie starts firing. i He is just, he is laying into him. Yeah. he's This is like what he lives for here.
Speaker: Oh my god. Completely. And like the entire force is there with him. He's definitely going to be the one to save the day. Because that's just Lassie. um But somehow the the guy gets away. He just like runs right out the door. Yeah. While also dropping...
Speaker: all of his identifying factors in the back alley so that no one can find him. Yeah. Very interesting choice. But I guess if no one saw his face, which we didn't, that would probably be the only way to really trace him.
Speaker: So they, um, they get the rest of the department there. Cause obviously now a shooting and not just a shooting, but a shooting at a normal cop bar while there were police there. And at the police, to be quite honest, because they were targeting one of their own.
Speaker: Well, yeah, that's interesting, though, because at this point, right after, they think it was like an attempted robbery, even though the guy does walk over and point a gun them. Yeah, literally points a gun at them. Not at the register, not at the staff.
Speaker: At them. Yeah. But I guess they're just so... I don't know.
Speaker: Well, I guess that's kind of what Sean, you know, brings to these things. is They just... They're not taking the next right leap. Right. there They're just like ah some guy with a gun. i think i think he's like a drug addict or something. who's Sure. Yeah, like a little erratic, maybe. Yeah.
Speaker: but they talk about it hold on I had the transcript up early wait hold on I'm just seeing the i recently started seeing a sports psychologist and I'm happy report that I'm already seeing marked improvement five errors is an improvement it could have been ten so Sean it sounds like this is been he's been struggling with this for a while maybe he's just not not good as Lassie says sounds like the sucks um
Speaker: Okay, what have we got? What we've got is a white male, medium build, about 5'10", attempted armed robbery. Few shots exchanged between the perp and myself before he escaped out those doors.
Speaker: Looks like more than a few. I was rounding.
Speaker: Not only were we almost killed, Chief, I never got my pizza chili cheese fries. But setting that aside for a second.
Speaker: And then...
Speaker: ah Sean says hood and the hooded man didn't come in here to rob the restaurant. And what was he doing? He wanted to kill someone. And I do love wanting to kill someone who one of us.
Speaker: So dramatic. And yet, and I feel like I remember it in my head, much more dramatic of a moment because I was like waiting for it. But the music is so light behind it. It doesn't feel very psych. very I know. It's so interesting.
Speaker: And then we get a full ah full title sequence. Yeah. To, like, kind of bring us off the intensity, too. Mm-hmm. Which is interesting. But very fun. I love the full title sequences.
Speaker: Yeah, so I don't know why they thought it was an armed robbery. mean, I that's... I guess just assumptions. Yeah, I mean, that's probably more...
Speaker: probable, more likely. They probably experienced that more yeah than someone attempting to... Than a targeted yeah assassination. It was kind of funny. I was looking through the transcript earlier and I searched the word target and they say target or targeting like 15 times. Really? episode It's really funny. Being targeted, jeep.
Speaker: Okay. So then we go to the station and seems like we're still just kind of talking about what happened. um Sean saying how if he is trying to kill one of them, then the perp is probably going to try again because he did not in fact succeed. and I wrote down that he said fact so many times. So many. Like 16 times. Facts versus opinions. Yes, speaking of. yeah
Speaker: Fact. And Jules is like, sean those aren't facts. ah And then he continues with more facts, apparently. And then so someone says to him, stop saying fact. And he goes, truth. Truth.
Speaker: So good. And then they discuss kind of the the concerning aspects of this case, which is who you know would try to attack a known cop bar. Like, why would you do that if you were someone who was just trying to rob the place or trying to do something? And that's what Lassie says. Well, as Sean says, who walks in and tries to knock off a known cop bar for $42? That doesn't make any sense. And Lassie says, he's a lowlife whacked down on junk.
Speaker: I've seen it many, many times. Oh, those assumptions. I think they just, yeah. Yeah. It's not serving them well. Nope. And then, oh my gosh, speaking of like in the beginning, Henry being so like, you know, there for Sean, we've got Henry running in afterwards. Mm-hmm.
Speaker: worried like really genuinely worried about sean runs over gives him a hug oh my gosh touching feel like we've met we barely see them touch yeah um just making sure that sean's okay and sean's like not a big deal he's like gus what did you was the first thing you did after all this happened i called my parents thank you it's like what's the first thing he did he ate a banana A banana. Yeah. He ate a banana. He didn't say it in a funny way. He ate a banana.
Speaker: I mean, I guess I wonder too if that that partly has to do with like Sean... They're in intense situations like all the time. Does Sean just not really think that this is like that big of a deal? Like he knows it's not something serious? Or do we think he just doesn't care about informing Henry?
Speaker: i feel like that's maybe in line with how he copes with intense situations as he minimizes them. Oh, that's true. Yeah, that's a good point.
Speaker: and yeah And he was hungry because he didn't get his fries. Of course not. I wonder where he even got a banana. That's a good question. Maybe he ordered one.
Speaker: Maybe they just happen to have one on the menu. They've got a cup of strawberries and a banana. Get them on the side. um And Henry is not amused by that. And Sean...
Speaker: says he did it because it reminds him of him my big papa monkey papa monkey big go papa monkey yeah he like really can't take anything seriously huh yeah he could have just been like i'm i'm sorry dad like next time i promise i'll call you and it would have been the end of it but no it is kind of funny because like Again, what they can achieve with tone.
Speaker: h Because this episode could be a heavier episode. Yeah. But it's not. Yeah. and that's kind of like a choice they make between or in these different intense episodes that we have.
Speaker: um Because you're right. Like this.
Speaker: i don't know. Like they are in intense situations all the time. And sometimes. It's very dramatic and sometimes it's not. Yeah. Yeah. This definitely feels like it's, it's not like it's okay. And I mean, I guess ultimately for Sean and Gus, like it isn't.
Speaker: because they were never the two of them were never being targeted but they think that they were being targeted yeah well okay that is a great point later with the I feel like that elliptical scene yes is the most intense part of the episode absolutely completely undercut it so it's almost like playing with their own um their own conventions because they have had these moments where
Speaker: handled in a very similar way where they are in jeopardy and they treat it just like that until they don't. Right. Right.
Speaker: Yeah. I mean, even the, the, is it the next scene after that? I think it is the next scene and we're jumping to the end as we do, but the next scene after that in the, in the graveyard, right.
Speaker: Lassie is at gunpoint and it does not feel anywhere near as intense as the elliptical with the phone. It's like, it's on the way there. I think it's, it feels more intense than some of the other moments.
Speaker: Like when it's just that guy and Lassie when they're alone. yes I feel like it feels more just like drama, not like, um,
Speaker: thriller I guess yeah yeah you know because like the guy is dealing with some serious grief and and Lassie really is sensitive to that and I think tries to connect with him um but then once Sean and Gus and Jewel arrive and it becomes kind of silly again yeah so silly so so silly
Speaker: but It's really a testament just how many notes they can play here. Yeah, yeah, and how many levels and yeah. Yeah. They do a very good job with it.
Speaker: So we find at the station, i guess it's protocol to offer counseling for anyone who was involved in the shooting. So Dr. Ehrliched. is there to offer their services. No one wants to talk to the counselor or no one feels the need to talk to the counselor.
Speaker: So they all leave this quick little meeting at which point, of course, Sean has to, on the side, go and ask Vic if he can use his sports psychologist as the counselor. And he does do it in such a way where he's like, I didn't want to say it in front of the group, but I do need to talk to somebody. but I want to use my guy. and she's like, well, that's fine. and He's like, I answer the card and she's like, this is sports psychologist.
Speaker: ah Yeah, do just so just so stupid. Yeah. And classic like, i don't know.
Speaker: to self-involve Sean. Yes, totally. sean Where he's like really undermining the seriousness of what has happened and like yes the seriousness of there being an option for mental health for everybody involved in this crisis. Like this is a very serious thing. hes I mean, even says like, I'm not using taxpayer dollars on that. like No. And she's, i mean, she's right. Like, that this is supposed to be for people who legitimately need assistance. And you are saying, heh heh, help me with my sports. Your pre-existing yips.
Speaker: Your pre-existing yips. Your consistent yips. yeah um And then... Oh, then someone Buzz comes over with. They found the um some of the identifying things in the back alley. They found the sweater and they found a hotel key, which, of course, to Sean is a little too obvious. Why would they have dropped a hotel key so clearly in a spot where it could be collected?
Speaker: Again, Lassie thinks this is just course a junkie or whatever. Right. So Lassie and Jules go to the hotel or motel room. I don't know. they Whatever it is. They go to the room. And I don't know where this popped in, but I just freaking love this line. um Sean's talking to Gus and he asks Gus to hop on the streetcar named Sean Zyre.
Speaker: so and gus is like i hate when you use as if he's like used this consistently yeah that's like one of his running jokes yeah a streetcar named sean zyre that is fun i feel like we don't often get like a acknowledgement that sean uses his lines more than once yes so it is funny to think that he's got A repertoire. Well, and it's, yeah, it's fun too because we don't often hear him say his lines more than once. like Yeah, right.
Speaker: We are constantly hearing new bits. So to think like in his off time, he's just cycling through these ones that he thought were really clever when he said them. It was too funny.
Speaker: I also like that moment, you know, coming off of last episode where there was so much debate about like, ah Sean having to go along with Gus's idea, when Gus is constantly having to go along with Sean. And this is a moment where it's like,
Speaker: Gus has to go along with it again. and It's like, he always has to. He's always on the streetcar named Sean Zyre. Always, yes. He is, it is the the hotel name Sean Zyre. Or Sean Fournia. Yeah. Hotel Sean Fournia. Yeah.
Speaker: He's never, never getting out. And it's, it's like such a discussion when Gus has an idea. course. We're going to go a lot. we We're really going to go on this route. And it's like, every time Sean does this,
Speaker: There we go. There we go. Go again. I did actually, i liked this. um They get to the restaurant or the bar or whatever it is. And um there's a couple of fun things that happen.
Speaker: First thing is they are looking at where the perp was standing. Gus is like walking over in an area and Sean goes to look at the cameras and sees that the guy was standing in a known blind spot so that he wouldn't be picked up by the security camera. I thought that was so fun, like seeing Gus stand there and then Gus take two steps to your right. That was so cool.
Speaker: And then I enjoyed too when um Sean was like recreating the scene and I want us to dissect what everyone was for a minute.
Speaker: Oh, okay. Let's do it. So Gus was the pepper. Sean was the salt. Jules was the sugar. Lassie was the lemon.
Speaker: And Buzz was the cherry. Those are the ones that we had specifics for. um Yeah, I think Sean and Gus, Salt and Pepper, I think that's, yeah. Gus black and Sean is white. What can say? They're besties. Black and tan. Black and tan, exactly.
Speaker: um Jules being the sugar, of course, because Jules is so sweet. Yes. Lassie being a lemon, do we think he's like a sourpuss? That's why? i think so. Yeah. Okay.
Speaker: And then Buzz being the cherry. I was like, what does that mean? Definitely. Of the set here, that's the biggest question mark. i agree. I mean, well. i mean well I feel like when you get a drink at a place like this and they put a cherry in it, it's always exciting.
Speaker: And we felt the same. Buzz is in the episode. We're happy to see him. We're like, buzz. Good point. It's a bit whimsical. It's a surprise. it's a oh yeah A nice addition.
Speaker: okay i get that. If you're a cherry person, you're like, who would ever say no to a cherry? Correct. And a maraschino cherry at that. Exactly. Syrupy goodness.
Speaker: okay okay that makes sense think that works yeah i like it yeah and um sean is resetting this of course so that he can pretend to be the shooter as gus sings happy birthday for the 26 seconds that it takes to sing happy birthday which i wondered if sean knew this fact beforehand or if he sang it to himself and went oh it's 26 seconds because that's like a very specific fact i feel like i feel like
Speaker: That was like a thing in COVID. like Singing happy birthday? Wasn't it? While you wash your hands, you should sing happy birthday two times. Is that right? Oh, interesting.
Speaker: Maybe. I always sang the alphabet when I was a kid, but I don't know if that's just because I was a child and trying to learn the alphabet. I mean, that might be a similar length. um But obviously this is, you know, a pre-COVID world.
Speaker: But I wonder, it does he does kind of say it Well, i was going to say he kind of says it as a fact, like it's something he knew. But I guess it would also, we have seen him do like research and stuff. So I can see him measuring it out kind of in his head yeah before he came to stage it. Yeah. Yeah.
Speaker: So, yes, Gus Rhee sings. Sean is holding the position at the door and then moves towards the group as the shooter did. And Sean figures out who the perp was after. And he calls Lassie to tell him that it's him.
Speaker: And in the process of calling, Lassie has to lean over while driving, which dangerous the first way. um But leaning over to grab the phone actually moves him out of the shot of the bullet, the second attempt at an assassination. And Lassie doesn't get hit by the bullet, but he does crash his his newly fixed up car.
Speaker: Yeah. Yeah. We didn't mention that before, but yes they mentioned a couple of times. Well, he kind of makes a big deal about how he just got a car out of the shop. And it there's that moment where he asks, he tells Jules, I will make you sit on a towel. No offense. And she's like, why would I be offended by that? And I don't know how to read that line. If she's being sarcastic and she is offended.
Speaker: It is weird to be asked to sit on a towel. But is it weird coming from Lassie? Yeah. Because like that, that is kind of weird. But if, if, if, if someone that I knew who was like super germy was like, can you sit on this towel? I'd be like, okay.
Speaker: Like it's not a big deal for me, you know? But then to also say, don't be offended. Then I'd be like, wait, should I be offended? Yeah. I guess she kind of does say it in a way where she's like,
Speaker: Okay, weirdo. Yeah. yeah Like, what did they say? I'm not being offended by that. Okay. Yeah. what What did they say in extradition British Columbia that she was like, what? Like, they were getting off the plane? When they got there? Was the, I have enemies everywhere? Was it that one? Yeah. That...
Speaker: uh thread of dialogue so funny oh or was it when he was like i have to get a gun o'hara and she was like yes they sold them at the grocery store was right right and so lassie's pissed because his car was just fixed yeah and he's like completely on a rampage he's fine he's not injured by any means but just pissed off about the fact that his car has been damaged and um Of course, in this whole process, too, they they now find out, right, that Sean was right. This wasn't a robbery. They are being... do. I wanted to read that out.
Speaker: Let me find it in here. Okay. Mm-hmm.
Speaker: ah Jules says, you really should count your blessings. Sean's call kept you from being hit. And Sean says, Jules, it's not important that it was me that saved Lassie's life or that I was right or that he should have listened to me from the start because I was right. The important thing is that you're unharmed and that it was because of me and I was right. That's
Speaker: so silly. He did save Lassie's life twice now in this episode. That's true. That's true. That's very true. But to be fair, like, Sean was right. Sean is often right.
Speaker: m But it's not as if they were, like, totally off in thinking that this could have been something else. um Yeah, it's just their closed-mindedness. They won't entertain right that it could be something more than what meets the eye, even though it sort of i don't know I feel like Sean was probably more onto something than they were. but yeah This actually, this gives me the same vibes, but slightly lighter of the, you were wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong in your weenie, wrong. Totally.
Speaker: It's that, but to a slightly lesser degree. Yeah. He loves to be right. he He does. And he wants everybody to know what he was right. He wants everyone to know that he was right.
Speaker: This is also when we find out, we can add another to the list of Sean's random jobs. He worked at a Meineke. Yes.
Speaker: But I love that line, too. Lassie's like, do you have any idea how much it's going to cost the city to fix this? Sean's like, are you asking Sean the psychic or Sean the guy who worked at a couple of afternoons at a Meineke?
Speaker: He's so good. Just so good. And I wonder, would he actually give different answers? That is a good question. Right? Because I feel like that is all part of the psychicness, is using the random bits and bobs of knowledge.
Speaker: Well, that is interesting because Sean is not a psychic. And so Sean the psychic would be basing his interpretation on Sean the Meineke guy. Yeah. My Nikki Sean.
Speaker: Yeah, that's interesting. But I guess Lassie doesn't know that. Yeah. And therefore they can be two distinct things. At this point, Vic has told Lassie that he um he's benched. He must be removed of the title of lead. And that must be given to Juliet.
Speaker: Because he she cannot, in her you know right mind, allow him to go out into the world when someone is trying to kill him. Yes, sure. Intentionally.
Speaker: So She does, like, trap him in her office? So funny. in the comments or something? Yeah. One of them. One of them. Yeah. he's like, he looks like a little lost puppy in there. Just what's everyone doing? Like, can I, let me help. He has his like glove and ball.
Speaker: He's just so bored. He's like, I need anything to do right now, please. And I do think it's funny too, that like she, she confines him to, we'll say it's the conference room I can't imagine her letting him stay in her office long-term. Um,
Speaker: But I love that he like occasionally steps out and then goes back in. Like he's breaking the boundary. Like he has to go back into the conference room. Yeah, he gets in trouble a little bit. Yes.
Speaker: And then, and Jules' point, because he's best. So that's fun. Yes. And we've kind of we've kind of had little instances of this before when Jules has been the person in charge and she's like, I'm following, I'm following what you told me to do. Like, I've got it. Like, don't worry. It's going be okay. and she goes and she pulls all the case files and he starts naming off the people. She's like, got it. Like, he's here. It's okay. Great. Yeah.
Speaker: Then she turns, rightfully, to Sean and Gus because now she's been you know thoroughly trained by Lassie. She doesn't need him telling her what to do anymore. And she's like, this isn't this isn't going to work. We got to go somewhere else. And they go to the office, which I was like, so fine so cute.
Speaker: So, so cute. And she definitely of the group is like, i feel like the most comfortable Yeah. Oh, she's so sure. Oh, i mean, of the group of, like, Lassie and Vic, I guess? Of the SVPD side of things? Yes, sure. She can hang in the psych office. Yeah.
Speaker: Oh, my gosh. She is... She is kind of like the intermediary between yeah the two worlds. So she yeah yeah she's fine in both. And it's so cute seeing them just sitting there. know. In the office. like Doing their little investigation, going through records.
Speaker: Yes. And this is when we first get or our drop of the telephone and new elliptical. which Yes.
Speaker: I was thinking it's so funny that there is like a whole subplot with the landline. It really dates yes the show. Yes. The the wireless landline. Yes.
Speaker: That Sean can't seem to keep track of or charge properly. um He doesn't lose it. Of course, he just places it in places that later elude him, but still.
Speaker: It's like a whole thing. Yeah, I know. I feel like most people nowadays don't don't even really have landlines anymore. No, they're like extinct. I mean, except for yeah business mainly older people and businesses for sure. Yeah. Yeah.
Speaker: um But yeah, so I guess it makes sense that Psyche would have a landline regardless. But I don't know, just the look of it and everything. Yeah.
Speaker: There was something so ah vintage feeling about this whole thing. thousand b yeah i mean, it looked just like, you know, my childhood landline. Yeah, same, same, same. Yeah.
Speaker: yes they've They've been losing the phone all over. The phone never manages to get charged. But then we also learn that Sean recently got a new elliptical for the office. and Which is also interesting that Sean puts it in the office. I guess there's more space in the office to house an elliptical. We also like never really know where Sean lives. We don't know where he lives, yeah. so Right. So he might not really have Maybe find out soon, actually. Actually, he is probably living at the dry cleaners.
Speaker: Oh, that would make sense. Because that's where he lives in Sean Takes a Shot in the Dark, which is coming up. All right. And Abigail's stuff is there, right?
Speaker: Yes. Yeah, you're right. That would make sense. But that place, even so, like really isn't that big. So I guess it would make sense to put it at the office. We also find out that Jules has been going to the gym and has been working with a new trainer. So she's, you know, willing to help Sean out if he really wants to start using that elliptical because he really hasn't.
Speaker: And that'll all come back a little bit later. Yeah. And this is, at this point in the episode, this is also funny. Just like a lot of random information yeah dropped in here. There are just like a lot of things going on in this episode. And then it all kind of comes into the plot, but...
Speaker: Right. Yeah, it's kind of fun. It is kind of fun. And I do think, you know, i do think they're able to do this successfully because it is not irregular for the boys to just throw in random backstory about their life.
Speaker: Like, you've been ragging me about this since the third grade. Like, that's very normal for them. So it doesn't feel out of place. Like, you immediately go, oh, that's going to come up later. You're just kind of like, oh, weird.
Speaker: Oh, then we jump back to the station for like two seconds and Lassie is Aunt C. There's no one there, nothing to look at. He doesn't have anything to do. So he sneaks out of the conference room and calls Mrs. Garcia to scare her husband out.
Speaker: to prevent him from coming after him anymore. And he is like screaming at this woman. I know, so mean. So i mean. And it turns out um her husband has sadly passed.
Speaker: And he's like, oh, I'm so sorry for your loss. And then she just hangs up the phone. Yeah, I do feel like yeah for like the comedic beat, he had to be so mean. So that was for that payoff.
Speaker: know, but this poor woman. I was like, oh, she's just trying to live her life. Then we jump back to the psych office and Sean clocks the newspaper that has Ivan Petrovich recently coming out of prison and standing outside of a shoe repair store.
Speaker: This is when Sean divines that Petrovich might be involved. I like that moment when he has this little vision and and Gus is like, I was just reading that guy's file. There was something about Gus just like not having any reaction to Sean having vision. I don't know. They're just like, they've got this little language. It's normal now.
Speaker: Yeah. He's like, the fact that he knows it's not a vision, but doesn't, I don't know. There's something fun about that. Yeah. They're just playing this game together. Like they're doing improv together. Yes. Very much so. um Have we talked about before? Maybe we have. um And maybe I just don't recall. We've talked a lot about like Sean's psychicness and his ability to claim that title of of psychic or he's, you know, a bit witchy and whatnot.
Speaker: But do we just call like... ah His ability to connect things so quickly, his ability to like, look into the past and grab something. I mean, maybe it's not psychic as you would define in a traditional sense.
Speaker: Yeah. But... well I know. what I mean, it's all, it's like semantics kind of. Yes. um It reminds me, I've been watching some Castle in the background. Did you ever watch Castle? I want to say I watched maybe the first season because I recognize...
Speaker: the characters like i the the two main characters like i um what's his name nathan nathan ilian thank you yes and he he's been on a bunch of things but i do want to say he's like a writer in the show right he's a writer and then mystery is she a cop mm-hmm Yeah, so I think maybe the first season, but I don't think I've watched the whole thing, no. Okay.
Speaker: You might enjoy it because you like reading mysteries too. That's true. i probably would enjoy it. um But anyway, I had just recently in my watching of that in the background watched their psychic episode where the psychic is murdered. Oh, sad. Okay, fair. Yeah, well. um and But it's fun. I've talked many times about how that show believes in supernatural and stuff and this show does not and that show always leaves room for like it being possible or even probable that like she was a psychic for example um but there's like a lot of debate in that episode about whether she's really a psychic and um and there is this moment where they're trying to figure out
Speaker: what she was kind of on to that might have led to her getting killed. And and they're like, say something about how she was psychic. And then one of the detectives is like, or maybe just really intuitive because she was like making notes about like there being like divorce question mark and all this stuff.
Speaker: And I do feel like that is kind of Sean, like he is very intuitive. And it's like- But a rose by any other name, you know, like maybe that is a kind of psychicness. And I think if you asked kind of new agey people today, they would say that that is like a kind of...
Speaker: ah
Speaker: I don't know, clairvoyance or something. Clairsentience. So yeah it's all just like whatever you think is real or not. I do think Sean would never identify as a psychic.
Speaker: Yes. I think you're right there. Oh, they find out that Petrovich is like the nastiest of all the criminals because he specifically targets kids, high school kids, like a quarterback that OD'd in the past year.
Speaker: So they start looking into... this Petrovich guy and if he really could be the person who is targeting Lassie. So Jules brings the case to Vic and Lassie. Wait, hold on.
Speaker: yeah Before we move on from that scene, I wrote confession.
Speaker: Oh, oh, I did too. I'll do the thing in the box with the guy in the thing. Confession? Confession? I thought it was interesting that there was a reference to confession so soon. Literally the episode after.
Speaker: And the fact that he forgot what it was called. This was last week, Sean. Yeah, come on, dude. It was whole moment.
Speaker: What we did do find out in that scene is that they are listed on the case and Gus is like, don't remember ever working on that. And Sean's like, well, don't know. But basically ah Sean allowed them to be paid for a case that they did not work. And so they appear on the case file, even though they did not work right Right. And that's when Sean's like, i'll I'll go do the thing. That's just like confession. Yes. Okay.
Speaker: Right. He'll repent. That really, i feel like we've kind of talked about moments like this before where he like pretends to not know something kind of or like part of his shtick kind of is not knowing something. But yeah like he obviously pretends.
Speaker: does know what that is. He did it last week. Right, right. And so there's something about this, like, too cool guy shot, like, the locks the guy in the box with the thing. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And maybe it is almost in reaction to last week where it was, like, that all hit too close to home. Yeah. I i think that's a fair assessment.
Speaker: He's, like, undermining it. Correct. Yeah, he's got to write it off now. Yeah. It's something he can just very easily forget. Yeah.
Speaker: So then we then we go back. Yeah. Then we go to the station and Lassie is listening to all this and he wants to be the person who gets Petrovich because, you know, he is a nasty SOB and he put him in for just a weapons charge. He couldn't manage to get enough evidence on the OD. So he wanted to get him on more, but he couldn't. So he wants to be the one to take him down.
Speaker: We also find out in all of this that not only were Sean and Gus listed on the case file, but Buzz was as well. So Vic tells Juliet to go and check on Buzz just to make sure that he's okay.
Speaker: Juliet and another officer go to check on Buzz. He seems like he's okay. He eventually comes out in his very nice backrobe check bathrobe. I was wondering, what time is it?
Speaker: I know. Because that was...
Speaker: Okay. So maybe they stayed up late and then it's like the next morning that she sends him. Because then they call Gus and he's asleep.
Speaker: So I was thinking maybe like six in the morning-ish. Yeah. Maybe like just as people are starting to get up. Yeah. And that would make sense why Buzz runs out in his bathrobe because maybe he's just about to jump in the shower. Gus is not awake.
Speaker: Sean is working now. And they're like all like Vic and Jules are like... It doesn't necessarily seem like the morning when we're with So I was like, where are we? Yeah, maybe it was an all-nighter for them. Like maybe they stayed awake.
Speaker: So Buzz seems like he's okay until he goes and checks his mailbox in which we get a crazy stunt. We get Buzz thrown back into the pool by an explosion from his mailbox. I like scary, but I love this stunt. This stunt is so good. So cool. And into the water. Yes.
Speaker: So cool. Yeah. The way they shot this was really, really fun. Um, And I also think it's funny, like it's fun because this is not the only time we're going to get a stunt into this pool. just thinking that. I was like, is that this show or whatever?
Speaker: No, that's this show. Yeah. Okay. where They're going to like jump off the balcony into this pool at point too. um So that's just fun that they like just do stunts at Buzz's house.
Speaker: I was also thinking, I feel like we talked recently about near-death experiences for Buzz. Yes, it has them kind of often. And happens, like, a lot. But I can't remember why were we talked about it. He must have had one more recently, but I'm thinking of season one with the serial killer.
Speaker: Yes. I feel like there was a different one that made us talk about it.
Speaker: Unless we were thinking of this. Oh, we could. Yeah, maybe we were thinking of this, but... He definitely has at least another one or two. yeah Well, I feel like you could say with the yin.
Speaker: That's kind of one. That's true.
Speaker: Very spooky moment. Very spooky indeed. For Buzz and with yin. um But anyway, yeah. Thank goodness for the pool. Love that pool. Yes. Yes, we do. a good landing pad for us. Mm-hmm.
Speaker: So now that Buzz is... Buzz? Buzz? I put Buzz and Gus. I like it. but That's their their their ship name? Is that it? ah Buzz and Gus.
Speaker: Yeah, Buzz and Gus. Now that Buzz is also being targeted, now we're ah genuinely concerned that Gus and Sean might also be in a threat of being targeted. So...
Speaker: lassie calls or not lassie jules calls gus he's in his adorable truck pajamas i love these pajamas so they're you cute yeah so sweet like a full flannel set yes and they just look so cozy like they look very comfortable good for gus he likes his his things you know yes he i could see him being like a a train guy or a truck guy or something on top of him being a stamp collector and whatnot. you know I can see trains for sure. Yeah.
Speaker: Right. He has those. Which maybe, maybe that would come up. I feel like, oh, maybe I'm just thinking when they jumped onto a train.
Speaker: I was thinking the same thing. What when is a Faroequenologist? Is that the, is that the stamp one or is that a train one? I think that's stamps. I only know that from this show. don't know. know. And I,
Speaker: I don't know. Let's see. Faroequenologist.
Speaker: Trains. Trains. When did that come up? That was definitely in the... A rail van, says Merriam-Webster. That's definitely in the inn episode.
Speaker: Okay. So he says he's one? Yes. Okay. I am a faroequinologist. Okay. um So there you go. That makes sense. Maybe these are just his his resident train truck vehicular pajamas.
Speaker: Just like my three-year-old son. There you go. Hey. They do kind of look like... er those patterns, which I think, you know, we should enjoy those things as adults. And then as we talk about childhood, adulthood, this show integrates them.
Speaker: Yes. Why not have a little bit of fun? yeah What's life without a bit of whimsy? Whimsy. A little cherry on top.
Speaker: If only they were on Buzz. that would A little Buzz in Your Life. A little Buzz. Just taking this road. That's another good title. A little Buzz in Your Life. There's some alt titles in them. Yeah.
Speaker: These are also good... ah
Speaker: what did we call them subtle t-shirts or something oh yeah there was a there was another reference to something in this oh stab in the dark that'd be a good horror flick film oh yeah stab in the dark yeah
Speaker: so good gus is in his truck pjs he's all concerned what wait did we skip over that because i do have the west craven thing or is that later with stab in the dark No, that was before. Okay. Well, hold on. Let's just acknowledge that while we're on it then. Just I thought that was so funny that Sean's going to put that in this year's holiday letter to Wes Craven. Yes.
Speaker: That he sends every year. yeah Yeah. I don't know why you send those. He never writes back. It's such a funny exchange that so cute that this is something that sean does yeah again like back to the whole like they just love to throw little bits of lore in like it yeah it never really feels weird it just no yeah totally builds out the world a little bit little bit more
Speaker: So Gus gets out of bed, sadly changes out of his truck PJs, and heads over to the office where he finds Sean exhausted on the elliptical. Still going in as fast as he can. Gus is concerned because he's been calling and calling and Sean hasn't been picking up. So he ah gets there and sees him in distress.
Speaker: He's like, what is happening when Sean passes Gus a water bottle that says if your heart rate drops below 150, you die. And of course, this makes him think that there's a bomb underneath the elliptical machine as there is also a flashing light down there.
Speaker: They call the bomb squad. Bomb squad's on the way. Juliet runs in. well Frantic. Yes. Is it? Did we already go to commercial break?
Speaker: I think we go to commercial right after the 150, you die. Okay. I feel like that is so intense. and So intense. Such a cliffhanger. Go to commercial. it Like, that is as intense as a Yang episode. Yes. Well, because we really think, like, he is being targeted. There's a bomb. he's Yes. Yes.
Speaker: And this time. And makes, you know, tracks. We just saw a bomb. Right. So. Nor is it the only time we're going to get a bomb in the psych office. There's a couple of instances of questionable bombs slash real bombs. It's just so intense. And then the way they undercut it. Oh. incredible. It's so.
Speaker: yeah It's so preposterous. so We come back from commercial break. As Kylie said, bomb squads on the way. um Juliette. or Or Gus is, like, making fun of what's currently happening or something. And, you know, Sean is essentially, like, cut it out and starring in the elliptical version of Speed. Juliet runs in.
Speaker: She's frantic because, of course, where's the bomb? Like, we gotta find it. and Oh, wait. And before that, too, there's that... Sean's like, there's something I have to tell you or something. Oh, yeah. I know.
Speaker: It's like, it's very serious. And Sean's like, I got 800 for the Petrovich case, not five. And it is, it really feels so intense. And then, yeah, Jules runs in.
Speaker: Turns out she left the note. Not Petrovich. It's ah's a tactic from her trainer. What kind of sick trainer have you been working with? And then they pull out the deep in light and it is the phone oh it's so preposterous sean gets off the elliptical like balls to the ground jelly legs idiots accurate accurate and then it must have it must be a couple of hours later because i cannot imagine that sean sean's legs recuperated very quickly my gosh um
Speaker: But they then go to the police station and this is when we get the ridiculousness in the parking lot, which is just so funny. Them hiding behind things. oh my gosh.
Speaker: Crouching and so, so funny. um Of course, they're trying to hide from whoever they think is killing them, but yeah that's no one. Jules is like, it would have happened by now if they were after you.
Speaker: And they they walk into the police station and they see Buzz who has lost an eyebrow and parts of three toes. Oh my gosh. He also maybe has a minor concussion because i find feel.
Speaker: yeah it And again, gus ah na guyss Buzz, I don't know why I put Buzz and Gus so much together. Just one syllable. I guess that's true. Yeah.
Speaker: yes Buzz being a little puppy dog again. Sean has like the tiniest little cough. And Buzz is like, what is wrong with me talking about myself losing toes? You're over here dehydrated. Like, let me go get you some water. Dying with thirst. Yeah.
Speaker: And Sean's like, no, no. I'm up i'm okay. Like, i'll I'll get it. Thank you though, Buzz.
Speaker: And... it it to do Oh, all I've got is Martin's Lair of the White Worm. yeah I wrote that down too. and it was so funny.
Speaker: Sean's like riffing on trying to get to...
Speaker: What are trying to come up with? Oh, the Martin Shoe Ropear. Martin's Layer of the White Worm. And I wrote that down because I just it was weird and funny. And then the next day after watching it, you know, my other podcast that I've also mentioned many times, How Did This Get Made? Do not tell me. Their episode comes out and it's Layer of the White Worm. And I was like, what? It was so spooky. And I didn't even realize it was a movie. I just thought was a silly thing to say. didn't know that was thing. Yes, totally. It's a movie. And then What's the Best?
Speaker: ah it is about, I think it's set in Scotland. Peter Capaldi's in it. Oh, fun. the twelve He is a Doctor Who. Yes. a Good job. Thank you.
Speaker: And some other people. Hugh Grant. Some other famous people. Oh, fun. But it's like an older...
Speaker: horror movie i guess um oh horror movie that makes sense then that yeah but like a weird like weird one there's like this worm lady and like a maybe like a family that's in charge of like maintaining the worm people i don't remember oh but it's it sounds like it's very weird and strange but i was like what's That's wild. I love so serendipity like that. That's so much Someday we'll have to watch it. Yes. We can add that to the footnotes.
Speaker: Yes. Where are the footnotes? and i It did... feel like they have watched it because oh shot like layer of the white worm and gus is like no it's definitely not that and it did sound like that was the kind of movie where you'd be like no don't reference that right now yeah so i guess he's yeah trying to riff on martin's shoe repair because he wants them to go there because he saw that image of Petrovich outside with like a bunch of other people like too many people more people than should have been able to fit in the store I guess yeah yeah and Lassie even says in that moment like there's it's like a closet or something he says it's a shoebox yeah no there's no point in going there
Speaker: but But Sean feels it. he like He knows. So Vic is like, just go check it out. Like, might as well. And they get there. And yeah, it's like just a a tiny room with shoe repair supplies. I love this scene.
Speaker: It's so fun. Sean just like randomly touching things is always hysterical. slow in a way it is very slow we're literally watching him walk around room real estate in the episode yeah he's like picking up different things things are news and last year standing in the doorway watching him just like They are so over it. And Gus is trying to get him. He's like, please stop. Let's just leave. Please.
Speaker: Is this when we find out he has an irrational fear of tassels? Because that's so funny too. it's I think on there. a Yeah. It's somewhere in here. um It's so funny. When he like picks up the like light switch thing. He clicks it and nothing happens. And he's like, not that. And then he like throws it in such a weird way.
Speaker: i don't know if that's like the yips thing coming back. He's trying to a good throw. Yeah, yeah. That's like jumps. It's all, it's just so ridiculous. So funny.
Speaker: And then by like accident, he drops a brush on the floor and it sounds, I guess, hollow. So they move the table that Yeah, well, and Jules and Lassie are, like, walking out as that happens. Oh, they're ready to And Sean's like, oh, you hear that?
Speaker: Petrovich has a dead spot or something like that. Yes, yes. And then it's, I guess, the brush falls on a rug is what it is. A rug under a table. So they move the table, they pull back the rug, and then there's, like, latch. And the table's very heavy. oh yeah, it's like a whole tree. whole tree. I was they were doing that Once they go down. um It's interesting that they do not put Sean and Gus in vests for this. ah That is interesting.
Speaker: i feel like in most shows. Yeah, they would have. Yeah. um Because Lassie and Jewel, they're like in tactical vests. Like they're expecting, you know, to run into this super scary person. big So I just thought that was interesting.
Speaker: I did think, I made a note, I thought Sean looked particularly great in his little outfit. Yeah. His little jacket and his dress shirt. They both look good. So maybe that's fine. yeah Could be. We just want them to look dapper. No, of course not. not.
Speaker: They go down into... a very extensive basement. This place is huge. multiple It is the layer of white worm. The layer of Petrovich. Yes.
Speaker: And they kind of separate. They kind of divide and conquer. And as Lassie's moving around, he hears some movement, so he fires towards the movement. And...
Speaker: Seems like he shot Petrovich because he is dead. And my note was what intense eyebrows. Those are some really evil eyebrows Petrovich has. Um, And that's kind of that scene. That's like literally it. Lassie kills him and then we leave. and Easy peasy.
Speaker: The other most wackadoodle part of this episode. Which Lassie's doing an interview about catching Petrovich outside of the police station. And Sean and Gus make a bet. 50 bucks to the guy who can get on camera the most.
Speaker: And they are just hiding behind plants, making silly faces in the corner, walking behind cars. i mean. It is so good. Preposterous. Preposterous. To the point where Lassie's like, look at that! At the end. Mid-sentence turns.
Speaker: I would love to see, to have seen, like, them directing that scene. Oh, so oh my god. The switch. Knock it off. So good.
Speaker: And I did too. I was like, imagine, do we think these reporters are just like, oh, that's Lassiter. Like, we'll just cut that out. Were they like, what the heck is happening? Was that in the, but like, did they politicize that? He does speak for the department and like if they are kind of used to him or not.
Speaker: silly Because, too, they have that moment where he's like, she asked if he was scared. He's like, I don't get scared. and And he's also distracted by Sean and Gus, so I feel like he's not.
Speaker: That's totally why. yeah Interviewing very well. Yeah. And he's just an oddball, but he's he's like, maybe you should ask Petrovich that question. And Roberta's like, I can't instead. Right.
Speaker: It's not that weird. I don't know. it wasn't that big of a faux pas, but she really doesn't let him off. No. It's too funny. Oh my god. And then the boys have to, of course, even after getting yelled at, they have to go back into the frame and still get a couple more seconds because 50 bucks is on the line. and they get back to the office and they time themselves. sure That's a great transition too. We're like watching Lassie's interview and then we're like with Sean and Gus in the yeah office timing there their presence on screen.
Speaker: So funny.
Speaker: And then we were with Gus and Sean in the office and Sean's like, I can't, I can't put my finger on it. Like something, something here is not right.
Speaker: And Gus just thinks that Sean is jealous of Lassie, which is, i feel like very much a, an interesting take, Guster. Like, yeah. Sean has such an interesting like relationship.
Speaker: I guess with Lassie and like with, I guess with everybody, but like, with helping people and like being m the star of the show kind of. because Yes. Yeah.
Speaker: He, but i was thinking about it earlier when Sean does go to Lassie to handle this situation in the bar when he spots the guy.
Speaker: and so like that suggests like he so thinks of Lassie a certain way. um Yeah. But when it comes down to it of like, he doesn't,
Speaker: Well, think part of it is bothering him. Like, it doesn't seem right. He has a feeling. Maybe a little psychic feeling that something is off. And also, he doesn't maybe like Lassie getting all this attention.
Speaker: And like, it's like, there's just many things at play. Like he likes Lassie in a way, but also he doesn't want him to get all the credit. And like, he thinks he's an idiot, but he also thinks he's capable in certain ways. I don't know. It's ah it's just like, yeah, same it is interesting. Cause like, um I think it's more new as you're saying, I think it's more nuanced than just Sean being jealous point. like yeah I think he's,
Speaker: like you said, jealous of the the attention or the spotlight. Like, Sean just loves being the center of attention. um But if Sean willingly gives that center of attention away, then he's okay with it.
Speaker: that Yeah, that makes sense. But here it feels like Lassie just got lucky and was the one who found him first, so maybe it's little less. That's true. Well, actually, like, had Sean never taken them to the shoe repair, they never would have found... Right.
Speaker: right spoilers petrovich's body anything like they never would have found anything and so yeah maybe that is part of it it's like he he broke the case but last he's getting all the attention and so yeah you're right that probably is part of the part his little bugaboo that he's got yeah and then he's got to go through the whole lassie did great today Lassie did today. He has to say it to himself like 12 times. that He's like trying different deliveries. Lassie did great Today. today um man.
Speaker: So funny. So funny. Until. Sean realizes what was naggling him, which is that the shooter in the bar didn't have a scar on his left hand, which Petrovich did. i couldn To go back to the psychic thing, what the way you just phrased that, when he realized what was naggling him, like yeah I think witchy types of people these days o would kind of describe psychicness, clairvoyance, and whatnot as, or or might describe it as like a
Speaker: an unconscious knowing that is made then is realized which is is that not this yeah yeah that sounds like this so he is a psychic he was ahead of his time he just didn't know that that's how he would define yeah yeah and it yeah he i was about to say he needs to spend some time with some some real psychics but And he when he spends time with the psychic invention people, they're also bunch of... I don't know. we'll We'll have to discuss them in detail. And then, like as you brought up, the fortune teller lady. Yes.
Speaker: and Later. Interesting. We'll see. It will. It will be an interesting indeed. it can't be Petrovich, which then later gets confirmed because the autopsy revealed that Petrovich had already been dead for two hours. Yes. So funny. Lastly shot a dead guy. Sounds about right. is So funny.
Speaker: So mean. But true. like Why would Petrovich... be doing his dirty work anyway. I mean, I guess he just got out of prison, so does he not have any more, like, allies? Like, I don't know. Like, the way they present this person, or even, like, looking at that shot of all those people in front of the shoe repair place, I would not think that Petrovich would be killing people. I would think he would have somebody to do that for him. That's a great point.
Speaker: But I and guess we just hand-waved that away. Yeah. Maybe they're thinking, like... like it's a grudge like he wants to realize right exactly because they put him away so he wants to be the one to we're making a lot of assumptions this episode anyway so yeah you know um so we find that that he actually od'd and that he had rope burns on his wrist didn't think that moment was also very funny because the charm was like Was he restrained? And is like, yeah, he had rope burns.
Speaker: Patrick gets didn't kill himself. I you know. Like, Julia. guys Come on. Yeah. He was really restrained. Come on. yeah Her medial training here. i know. I know. But I guess it has to be Sean's. You know, they're sleep deprived.
Speaker: We've been up all night. Yeah, Jules has been up for days. so Yeah. There's lot going on. And it also seems like maybe Lassie has been up for days because he's been calling all of the people and had...
Speaker: some connection to Petrovich to tell them that, you know, he's been Yeah, people who are most harmed by him. Correct. And we find out that one of those people is the father of the quarterback, the high school quarterback, who had an OD and died because of Petrovich. His name is mrter Mr. Salamachia.
Speaker: and it was the same combo of drugs same combo of drugs and the sun's the anniversary of the sun's passing is like that day i love that moment too they're looking at the paper or no sean is looking at in his mind think and we have like this adr line of It's September 18th or something. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And that also made me think McNabb's birthday must be like the 16th or the 17th.
Speaker: So Canon the burgo mcna is a Virgo. Virgo. Now it tracks. That makes sense. It does. It does. I wonder how many others we're going to get throughout this. I know. Maybe a few.
Speaker: That'd be fun too. I'm going to write that down somewhere. Right? That'd be another fun shirt. everyone's face and they're different yeah and right and then we also find out which i was like also what a little addition that mr salamachia was special ops in the marines so he like knows how to use a weapon and likely has one is essentially what they're trying to tell us yeah that makes sense Like the, when he tried to shoot him in the car, that was like a serious sniping thing. Yeah. And I guess why he thinks that he could go into a restaurant and just hit Lassie, theoretically. Yeah, true.
Speaker: Because he's got some training. It is interesting that he would do that... That that would be his first move. Something so public. When he has the skills to be more specific, I guess.
Speaker: um I wonder if he wanted like o scare them. I mean, i could see that.
Speaker: He seems like... He gives that vibe, if you know what I mean. Yeah. He definitely gives that vibe. um So Lassie goes, so we get a shot of Mr. Salamachia getting out of his car with some flowers in a graveyard, theoretically going to his son's headstone.
Speaker: And Lassie meets him there. Which Lassie's coming into this under the guise of like, this is a good thing. He's sharing with him that like this guy is gone. In case you haven't heard, I wanted to be the first to tell you. Right. Lassie. Oh, Lassie. Because Mr. Salamaccio holds Lassie at gunpoint and starts telling him about, you know, everything that's been going on.
Speaker: And I did love this one line that Lassie said about this dad is that you know, he sees a dead man whose grief has driven him to the breaking point. And I was like, yeah, that is. Yeah.
Speaker: A very, especially for Lassie, that's like a very personable empathetic way of seeing this situation. Yeah. I think this was really, yeah.
Speaker: That was a really interesting like character scene for Laughley. There was also that moment where he said um that he's dedicated, I forget how he, hold on, hold on. we Get the line.
Speaker: I've given the better part of my career chasing the Petroviches of the world because of people like you. um Yeah, we don't really see him
Speaker: center the victims, I guess. Like that doesn't seem to be the driving force of like why he's in this line of work, which. At least on the surface, yeah. It's problematic in many ways. Yes, yes. But it's nice to hear that, like, coming from him, that that does at least sometimes cross his mind. Yeah.
Speaker: And maybe on like, a deeper level, that is what drives him. mean, probably. um But that is kind of a more vulnerable way to frame it, and maybe that's not something he wants to no advertise, I guess. like Sure. Yeah.
Speaker: maybe that enemy is everywhere come like a yeah maybe that feels like a weakness to him I could see that think of it that way for him to think of it that yeah I agree I could see that for him so then know Lassie's at gunpoint Jules, Sean, Gus show up Jules has got a gun Sean has got a phone and he doesn't even realize he has it it's in his pocket and Gus is like
Speaker: ah You are unbelievable. And Sean, I also love in this ah this little scene after Sean finds out that he has his phone in his pocket, he says something. I don't remember what it was. And Gus is like, what? And Sean goes, I'm not going to lie. And Gus goes, since when?
Speaker: So funny. And then Sean flashbacks, the flashback. And one time, just one time. All they got left is this phone because Juliet has been told to put down her gun. Yeah. And that's like going back to the, um, does he say that in the,
Speaker: No, I think he's just thinking like he got it one time. Like he died. It's one time. It feels very like child shot.
Speaker: You can do it. He throws the phone and is nowhere near close, but that's okay. Because it still gave Lassie the time, yes, to you know knock the gun out of his hand and get him down. And um and arrest him. So they they've got him. Yay.
Speaker: We then jump to the very last scene with Sean at sports therapy alongside Gus. Gus has come along for the ride, I guess. Yeah, gotta package you.
Speaker: True. And seems like he's cured. He's able to catch and throw the ball perfectly into Gus's mitt. Yay. Congratulations. did think it was very cute that Gus was catching for him. Yeah, so sweet. We've upgraded from the the target board to Gus.
Speaker: And um he's very, he's chuffed with himself. He's very happy that he's, you know, back to his elite playing, as we were saying before. And the sports therapist leaves.
Speaker: We already mentioned him billing Chief Vic. And do you know who Tori Hunter is? Because I don't know who that is. No. what's that he says call me Tori Hunter but in the Jamaican accent and Gus goes oh call me tory andta Tori Hunter maybe he's a bas he's a baseball player there you go that makes sense he was an outfielder which also makes sense because throwing the ball okay I wonder is he Jamaican because that would make even more sense Tori Hunter Tori Hunter Jamaican let's see
Speaker: Not Jamaican. Never mind. He just likes to hear it that way. It's from Arkansas. Nice. There you go. was going to say, Gus does do a good Jamaican accent, so I i understand. He seems to love to do it.
Speaker: Yeah, that's true. We do see it a bunch more, actually. We hear it way more in the show. um The one I'm thinking specifically is the play. to make an inspector man yes to make an inspector man so good we'll get there well yes we will and then uh our very last beat of the show is that gus has to tell sean that of course sometimes athletes find that when one mental block is cured it moves to something else like hitting and then the last couple seconds are just
Speaker: Yes, he is. And hitting was established earlier in the episode as something Sean does very well. Right. So, yeah. Damn it. And he's like, doctor, whatever, come back, please.
Speaker: Oh, I did love this. Yeah, i we already talked about it, but like the finger guns from the sports psychologist. you got it yeah but so cute a lot of fun yeah it was a fun one definitely like you said at the beginning a lot going on there was actually a point yeah episode where you were like oh like the yips and i was like oh shit that was what we were just talking about i know i mean it goes down so smooth it does but there is a lot yeah lot of moving parts yes indeed yes indeed um
Speaker: And next, we have a big blockbuster episode, Bollywood Homicide. fun. We'll have to watch a movie.
Speaker: So, yes, next, I guess next time you'll be, you'll be hearing us will be our Halloween episode. Yes. And but maybe we should say what we'll do because I have been bad about posting about it. And if anybody wants to watch along. That's fair enough. Fair enough. You have a lot going on, to be fair. So i it is okay. I want to so bad, but No, I know, but it it takes time. but It does to put like the art together, but it is fun to do. maybe We'll try one day. We'll see.
Speaker: so we're going to watch, what did we say? Lifeboat and Rear Window, both Alfred Hitchcock films. The first in our Alfred Hitchcock Film Festival. Yes.
Speaker: Chronologically. Yes. We'll watch five for... The next time that we have a yin yang episode. So we have some reference material.
Speaker: And then. and then our next psych episode will be the Bollywood episode. We'll let you know which Bollywood movie we're watching then. Yes. Otherwise, if you'd like to join us back here next week, we would love to have you. We'll be discussing, as always, the famed TV show, Psych. Psych.
