Introduction & Episode Overview

00:00:39
Speaker
And welcome everybody, this is Games Over Plastic, episode number 64, I Am Midnight, joined as always... Nintendo 64! Yes!
00:00:50
Speaker
Joined as always by my amazing co-host, first and foremost the man, the myth, the legend, Sean Mason this time. How you doing, Sean? I'm doing great, I'm ready to talk some remakes and remasters and in light of the recent Star Fox weird puppet news.
00:01:07
Speaker
no Yeah. And last but not least, master of graphics and Pokemon cards, Hodge. How are you, sir? I'm doing good. I'm very tired. I was traveling.
00:01:20
Speaker
i was in Texas all week this week for training and. That sun sun really gets to you when you're out in it too long. So I'm exhausted, but it's the weekend. Ready to talk some video games with you guys. And then afterwards, just relax and wait till Monday comes, I

Buc-ee's Visit & Drake's Albums

00:01:37
Speaker
guess. Where we're at in Texas?
00:01:40
Speaker
I was in San Antonio. OK. That's why I didn't see you. hey um did you Did you go to Bucky's? yes i did i drove up to new braunville so i go to bucky's oh yeah because i had to it's it's it's it's mandatory i was gonna buy they had the new stuff bucky there i was gonna buy it but i speaking of which i have the wrong bucky in my background um they had the america bucky where it says like happy 211st but it's the same uncle sam's that have but it holds a banner says like happy 250th birthday or whatever and i was just like and I already have an Uncle Sam Bucky. I don't need to buy this one just because it's a birthday one. and What's so special about 250? That's a cool number, man. That's ah a quarter of a thousand.
00:02:24
Speaker
You know what's a cooler number than 250? What? 6-7? No. Get out of here, kids. 343.
00:02:35
Speaker
three four three I hate that number. Okay, there you go. Oh, hey, right. Yeah, yeah, yeah. But did you see that my boy Drake was at Bucky's? I posted a picture. Did you also see Drake drop three albums at once? I did see that, yes. I've listened to it. None of them are going to hit the top charts.
00:02:56
Speaker
Yeah, i don't know I don't know. I think it's weird to drop three albums. You're kind of competing with yourself. Yeah, I actually that was kind of weird um i bet against it on Cal sheet. It was a couch, you know, di dabbling into the the non-sports market. And it was, ah will any of Drake's albums reach the top three this year? And I know it was plus 150. So I said, why not?
00:03:20
Speaker
I think if he had dropped one album, it would be 100% to be in the top three, but you're dividing your audience listening into thirds, you're right? Because they're listening to three albums. Why didn't he drop one album and make it like part one, part two, part three? I don't know what he's doing, honestly. um it I speculate in my mind that maybe it's like a contractual thing. Maybe he had like three contracts left with or three albums left with his deal and he wanted to just get done with it, so he dropped three albums real quick. ah Maybe he wants to make OVO independent, like fully owned by him. I have no idea. Who knows? That's just in my head. You know what's really funny about this? You've been talking about this Iceman album since like we started this podcast. Yeah. finally here yeah he's been But anyways, the point is, Hodge, he was at Buc-ee's in his music video. I don't know if you saw the picture I posted. That was pretty cool.
00:04:05
Speaker
He was posted up outside of Buc-ee's. It entered. It exited my mind as quickly as it entered it because I don't care about it. he should at least get one point for Buc-ee's. Hodge, the number one drink.
00:04:16
Speaker
Come on. any it hit Minus one for being crippled in Degrassi. All right. So he's at zero. That's fair. All right. um Anyways, guys, this is Games Over Plastic, a Drake podcast.

AI Discussion: Jobs & Phone Bots

00:05:24
Speaker
All write-ins must be submitted within a one month.
00:05:27
Speaker
I need a handwritten letter. They need to be sent to my address. Actually, you know what? No, they need to be sent to a P.O. box with the official U.S. stamp of approval. And you need to have a, it needs to be signed by our President Donald Trump.
00:05:44
Speaker
And if Sean detects any any sense that it was written by AI, he's going to come to your house with a sledgehammer. Yes. beke He hates AI. We all hate AI. Yes. yes If it's written by Allen Iverson, sledgehammer will be... Exactly. The answer....would rock your house. Yes. I saw someone posted in Discord yesterday that I guess AI is starting to get more expensive than having human employees, and it's just like, yes, burst the bubble. Burst it.
00:06:12
Speaker
Yeah, I hope so. Get rid of that crap. I always worry about AI get replacing jobs. ah My job's not super easily replaceable, but it could be. I mean, they could replace they could replace some of us for sure and cut down on staff you know by getting rid of some of the the tedious stuff. You do still need some people to handle talking to people and dealing with some of the tasks, but they could get rid of some of it for sure.
00:06:33
Speaker
You know, there's fucking eyess there's nothing worse than being on the phone call and just an AI bot the entire time. And you're like, speak to a representative. Oh, I hate it. I just shout representative into the phone. Yeah, it makes me so bad, dude. I'm like representative.
00:06:48
Speaker
so That's mad. Yeah. Yeah. All right, boys.

Fantasy League Update & Forza Horizon

00:06:53
Speaker
On this episode, we are going to do a fantasy update with the master of fantasy, the one and only Hodge. We haven't done one since, I don't know, February or something. I figured it was time since a very big game just dropped, which I had actually.
00:07:08
Speaker
That's why you wanted to do it, because you just had a huge game drop, which put you in the first place. Yeah, actually. Well, what's funny about it is, is I knew Forza Horizon dropped it. I knew it was a huge game. I wasn't 100 percent sure that I had the game.
00:07:20
Speaker
um I thought that I might have had it. I couldn't remember if I drafted or not. I hadn't gone to your thing yet. I didn't remember who had it. I thought maybe I drafted it I just knew it was a 91. And I was like, we should do a fantasy update.
00:07:31
Speaker
But anyway, Hodge, you want to do this update? Take it away, sir. Yeah, so as I just said first place is you with 85 average because at 91, Dragon Quest VII at 83, Requiem at an Legend of Heroes Trails Beyond the Horizon Monster Hunter Stories and Enfield is a So that, yeah, you're that...
00:07:58
Speaker
Forza just threw you over the And Requiem, obviously, was a huge one, which me and Sean very stupidly thought, eh, I'll score in the 70s because... I guess we're stupid. But ah and then in second place is Sean with only two games released, but it's Nioh 3 at an 85 and Scott Pilgrim at an 80. it puts, i don't know I said it, you're at an 82 and a half.
00:08:19
Speaker
And then in third place is me at 80.6 with Soros as was being my highest at 87, Pragmata 86, which I think is overrated. Crimson Desert, 79, Yakuza at and replaced criminally at 77.
00:08:36
Speaker
We'll get into that more next or at the end of the month when we do wrap up, but I'm playing replaced and loving it. And it is way better than a 77. So I don't know how it has that low rating, but yep. That is the ranking right now. Midnight, Sean, then me. for fantasy go shy halfway through the year so i could be eta 6 is getting a 100 for me uh me to the hollow is gonna get 100 and lego batman legacy of the dark knight's gonna get 100 i'm all set i already won and control will be a high 80s for sure because that game looks amazing from what we've seen so control will be an 80 um 80 what yeah i'm talking about the critics not you
00:09:19
Speaker
No, I'll wait to at 89 control. I had a i don't know what control, had but it came out buggy as shit, which probably hurt its score. Yeah, no control rather than just going to have mid to high eighty s There's no way it's a low 80.
00:09:32
Speaker
We'll see. We'll see. um Yeah, I do just want to point out, you trying to gloat because I'm in first place right now. I think I was last place last year, wasn't I? So it's not like I'm the it's not like I'm some genius. I'm just trying to make up for how I did last year. I sucked it up last year. So hopefully I can win this year. We'll see. There's a lot, lot of game left, lot of games to come out. So.
00:09:53
Speaker
I think the only bad move you made with your draft was putting Clockwork Revolution as a safety because you put a game that might not come out as a safety. That Chrono Odyssey is probably not coming out either. yeah but at least one of my safeties came out, did you see? Yeah, I got an 83 with that. What's funny is I looked it up.
00:10:11
Speaker
I looked it up. I actually had that game had so few reviews that I had to do the math myself. It's on OpenCritic if you look it up there. It only had like eight reviews or something. So they don't actually have a number score. I had to average it myself.
00:10:23
Speaker
It came out in February. I do have a couple for for those who don't know. I'm sure everyone who listens knows. I do the fantasy

Gaming Nostalgia: Dragon Ball Z & Sleeping Dogs

00:10:30
Speaker
updates for LSM and ILP, actually, if you guys listen to that one, too. But... um i I have yeah there's like two games on there that have literally like three ratings and so I just average the three ratings because it doesn't have an official score on Metacritic and so I've had to do that but I find it hilarious that my highest rated game is a safety game of mine which is Pokemon Pocopia at 89 so I need one of my games to get delayed so I can add that to my score yeah who would have thought 89 that's impressive
00:11:02
Speaker
Yeah, and I remember when we were drafting, I took it as a joke because I'm pretty sure I said like almost verbatim, like I am just so curious about this game that I have to put it as a safety. And then it comes out and it's like everyone loves it. I'm like, all right, I need some games get delayed so I can have it in my list. Yeah, that game just seemed and felt like a 70 to me, like 75 type game, you know?
00:11:24
Speaker
but I don't know. It wasn't. It's Animal Crossing, which people love, and Pokemon, which people love, so sea not really surprised. yeah Do I? Yeah. Do I love both?
00:11:35
Speaker
You do. I do. Don't you? I think you do, yeah. I've never played Animal Crossing. I'm sure I would love Animal Crossing. I just don't want to get myself into it, because there's so many types of games where I'm like, I guarantee I would love this, but I also know I would way too much love this. And so I need to not i but get myself into these things. so I don't know if I've ever played any game like that. I've never played Animal Crossing. What is it? You have? You played in your coos there, didn't you?
00:12:07
Speaker
No, I didn't. i had an Infinite Wealth? I haven't played that yet. never I got to get to it. Once I get to it, I'll try the Animal Crossing mode and we'll see if it's good. There we go. You're going Animal Crossing based off the the um the mini game and another game.
00:12:22
Speaker
There we go. Yeah, I'll give you guys, I'll do a spoiler cast and review of Animal Crossing based on the Yakuza mini game. There you go. Sean can join me. He'll be talking about Animal Crossing. I'll be talking about Yakuza and the audience will be like, what the is going on?
00:12:38
Speaker
Yeah, it'll be great. All right, So the main the main topic of the episode today, we're going to be rating our best remakes and remasters, our favorite, favorite slash best. ah Top 10 each.
00:12:52
Speaker
The order is going to go Midnight Sean Hodge. That's what I decided randomly. Why not? We're going to be counting down from 10 to 1. Now, I think Sean just did all remakes. I didn't do that. Mine are a mix. Hodge, what did you do? A mix? It's a mix. Yeah, remakes and remasters. Sean's a tryhard. He's got to do all remakes. Yeah, I did all remakes because I figured remasters. If I'm just going to do remasters, i mean I'm just going to put Last of Us 9,000 times. i mean They do have the real remake, but then they also have a million remasters. and they have GTA 5 would be my list like five times. yeah yeah Well, that's the thing. I didn't include The Last of Us because... ah
00:13:26
Speaker
do You get into the thing, like, are you judging the game? Are you judging the quality of the remaster? or are you averaging them both? And I kind of averaged them both, kind of. I don't know. I did a bit of an average of both with my... Although, Last Us really should have been on there. But I don't consider those really remasters. What did they really do? They didn't do shit.
00:13:41
Speaker
None of those games needed remasters at all. Like, they barely touched it. mean, the PS3 one kind of did. I mean, was kind stuck on PS3, I mean. Well, yeah. Yeah, yeah. But it was barely improved. It was just playable on the PS4. You mean barely improved. Did you play the PS3, Barry?
00:13:55
Speaker
that's where i That's where I originally beat it on PS3. Yeah, well, it was greatly improved. All right. The power of the PS4. PS4 was an awesome console. One of my favorite consoles of all time.
00:14:07
Speaker
All right. Shall we get into this, boys? Indeed. Let's do it. Let's do it. right. So at number 10, I am up. And I am going to go with one of my favorite games of all time. I have this at last place because it is an amazing game, but it's it's just a mid, very subpar remaster. And that is Sleeping Dogs Definitive Edition.
00:14:27
Speaker
ah This is one of my Sleeping sleeping Dogs sleeper games. Everyone needs to play this game. I made Sean play it last year. Sean did enjoy this game, I believe. I know he did.
00:14:38
Speaker
I did. And Sean, would do you recommend this game for others to play? Yeah, I do. I mean, I think it's it's a great game. I mean, it's it's it's a little like Grand Theft Auto, but I think the story is a little bit better. It's a little bit different, a little bit more serious, not more serious, but a little bit, it's different, different, different tone, different tone. Gameplay is, um I think the gameplay feels more, more gamey. Yeah, it's good.
00:15:06
Speaker
Yeah, yeah. Yeah, it's like an arcade, more ah more arcade kind of feel, but fun. it's it's just It's just a fun game with a great story. That's what I think. The gameplay is really fun, and the story is awesome with the undercover cop in the triads, which is the mafia in Hong Kong. And he, you know, he's really close with the mafia, but he's undercover. And then your loyalties get twisted. Like, who do you side with at the end? It's awesome. I recommend it to everybody. It's not the best remaster. Everyone is why I have it at 10, though, because it was only two years later. Like they barely the graphics are slightly better. It's not much better at all, to be honest with you. But there you go. Sleeping Dogs, definitive edition.
00:15:43
Speaker
Go play it, everyone. The shame will never get the sequel. I'm so mad that they shut down the studio United Front Games. They shut them down. I'm so mad. They're talented studio. Maybe we will because maybe I bought the IP and you just don't know and I'm currently making the sequel right now. I wish that was true. I'm making it.
00:16:02
Speaker
I wish that was true, Sean. I know you would do it justice. and I would set it in Japan. ah You know what? That's fine with me. I mean, the one was in Hong Kong.
00:16:12
Speaker
We could have a Yakuza ah sleeping dogs. Why not? All right. ah Hodge, I know you don't have thoughts of this because you haven't played this game for some reason, even though you would would love. Well, I guess you don't like GTA games much, but I bet you would you would still like myhar GTA fan. You would still like this game. It's awesome. The number one GTA fan. I'm sure i actually do have it downloaded on my Xbox. I just haven't gotten around to it. because It was a games with gold like years ago. So i had I had in my library. So I downloaded it. But and I have so many games I'm playing right now that I'm like, anything in my backlog is just non-existent as right now because of how many games are coming out. So I'll get to it one day. Yeah. One thing I will say about sleeping dogs is it's, it's not a game that starts off like slow and boring. I don't think at all. Like you jump right into the action. Yeah. I think if anyone who's interested, just play like the first 25 minutes, 20 minutes, 30 minutes, you'll know immediately if it's a game for you. All right. Sean Mason, what's your number 10?

Debating Game Remakes: Warhawk & Uncharted

00:17:15
Speaker
Alright, my number 10 is a game we call Warhawk 2007, a PS3 multiplayer-only game. A very rare um Sean Mason multiplayer game. Now, many people might be saying, this is not a remake, but ah little did you know this is a remake. It is a complete remake of the PS1 Warhawk game.
00:17:37
Speaker
They took the PS1 Warhawk game and kind of made it into this massive multiplayer-only shooter. Think of it like today if it came out, it would probably be a free-to-play game. um with a bunch of microtransactions and skins. But back in, you know, August 2007, we have little old Sean Mason going into sixth grade. This game came out a week before I was going into sixth grade, and I was like, oh, I've got get this Warhawk game. That's the most accurate voice I can ah portray there. um And it was super fun. I mean... um
00:18:08
Speaker
I never really got into an online multiplayer game before. And I i started playing this Warhawk third-person shooter. You run around, you have a team deathmatch, deathmatch. They had dedicated servers on PS3. I'll never forget playing Capture the Flag with my my good friend Trevor and Truman. And we would get in the, the um what what we were used to call the Warthog-like game.
00:18:29
Speaker
because it was we just called it the warthog from halo but it wasn't it was just like their version of the warthog and uh someone would sit in the passenger seat but you couldn't shoot like in halo you couldn't shoot in the passenger seat you just sat there someone would be manning the turret and then i would be driving and we'd have someone with the know the the capture the flag we'd be trying to get to the other side of the map we used to play ukadia that would be the map we're trying to get to the other side we yell and scream i also remember this game that the sniper rifle you could shoot a legit you could shoot a warhawk with it and the warhawk would explode so yeah Pretty fun game. But yes, this is a remake. It is a remake. I actually bought all the DLC too.
00:19:05
Speaker
One of the DLC added like a drop ship, which was super cool. Like you could put like 20 people in the drop ship and you could pick up vehicles. It was awesome. Yeah, i really liked this game. Never played the sequel, Starhawk, but um it was super fun. The only thing I hated about it is if you tried to play split, if you played split screen on it, it was a vertical split screen. It was not horizontal. was vertical.
00:19:24
Speaker
It was terrible. hate that. Oh, it so bad. I think the only game that's ever had good vertical split screen was Army of Two. I loved that game. but And it had a vertical split screen, but it it worked with it for some reason. But yeah, vertical split screen is why. All
00:19:45
Speaker
right. Good pick, Sean. I never played it. No comments. Oh, this is one of the first games I ever got a trophy in because they added because when PlayStation added trophies, this is one of the games they added trophies to. Like the day it came out. and I remember I got one. of my My first trophy was earned.
00:19:59
Speaker
In this game in 2008 when they added the trophies. And my last trophy earned in this game was 2018. Big 10-year difference. All right. I'm wrong. Why am I wrong? I could have sworn. so i just Sorry, I just Googled it. Army 2 doesn't have a vertical. I could have sworn had vertical split screen. Am I? You liar.
00:20:16
Speaker
guess I'm just an idiot. I'm trying to think. There was a shooting game. wait, no. There is one that has. I don't know. Whatever. Hodge, you can make it up to the audience by having an amazing number 10 pick.
00:20:26
Speaker
Yeah, so my number 10 is only number 10 in a similar reason to yours, Midnight. And that's the fact that it's just not a very good remaster. But I had to include in my top 10. It is one of my favorite games of all time, and that is Alan Wake Remastered. The remaster is bad.
00:20:45
Speaker
It looks like a 360 game. They did nothing to make it look modern, even though it's a PS5 Xbox series game. Nothing about it looks next gen. So, yeah, it's just a bad remaster. But I love this game. So I that overtook the horribleness of the remaster. And i had to include it just because, again, as anyone knows, I am giant fan of Remedy games. So, yeah, nothing. We've talked about this game many times. I don't have to talk about it forever. But yeah, Alan Wake remaster, bad remaster. Awesome game.
00:21:24
Speaker
Yeah, awesome game for sure. um Yeah, exactly. Exactly. I beat the game. Good game. Very good game. People should play that as well. Yeah, go Wake with Alan.
00:21:35
Speaker
Yeah, we go play Wake with Alan. Wake up, Alan. Wake with Alan. Now all of sudden it sounds kind of... all Sounds like a different type of game. It's the sequel to Pokemon Sleep. Wake, Alan.
00:21:47
Speaker
Wake with Alan. Pokemon Smile will brush your teeth.
00:21:53
Speaker
and forgot ah at number nine for me age of empires definitive edition so this was a remaster of the original age of empires from the 90s which came out a while ago which i barely even played so i'm kind of being a fraud here um but i i did play the hell out of the original game i played Hundreds, if not thousands of hours of the original Age of Empires and the Rise of Rome expansion. Loved the hell out of that game. Played a lot. Used to play competitively on the Microsoft Gaming Zone. That's how you used to play competitively. You you connected to the website, the Microsoft Gaming Zone, and it had like little lobbies that you would get in. And then it would launch the game from the little lobby.
00:22:36
Speaker
like It would open and put everyone together. it It worked pretty well, surprisingly. Back in the day, man, they had to come up with clever solutions for multiplayer. So yeah, I loved it, man. Awesome game. The definitive edition, like i said, I barely barely even touched. But I saw, I mean, it looks great. It's a nice visual update. They did a good job with it. It's it's an amazing game. if you know If people never played the original, there you go.
00:22:59
Speaker
It looks better. That's what I got. You guys aren't big strategy guys, so I'm sure you don't have many bars, if any. Yeah, it's it's just one of those gen it's another one of those genres where I feel like I'd probably love it, but I would know I'd get way too addicted to it because I do like the the kind of ah what are those games like tower defense type game. I know that's not what it is, but like those I love those games where you like build up kind of your settlement to defend. And so I know I probably love RTSs, but yeah I've just never gotten into them because, yeah I'm sure, like, I know I've always wanted to try Halo Wars, but I'm like, I can't do it because I'm going to obsessed with it, and I just i just can't do it. so So I just never have.
00:23:40
Speaker
hi Go ahead, Sean. Do you remember this game on Addicting Games where you would build up this tower? And I cannot remember what it was called, but you would go out and there'd be like a round and then you would get money and you'd have to buy up more stuff for your tower. It was like a tower defense game. It was on Addicting Games. And that just sparked a memory in my brain. And Hodge, I feel like you would have played it.
00:24:05
Speaker
Sure. But there was one game that people would maybe remember. It was a mobile game called Cartoon Wars. And that was ah that was a tower defense game, which was awesome. But yeah I'm not... I'm sure it... Addicting Games... Yes, it was called Tower Swap.
00:24:21
Speaker
Plus Tower Defense. Tower Swap. ah like Tower Swap, okay. Now it's on crazygames.com.
00:24:33
Speaker
Yes, I didn't mean for it to start playing. but yeah yeah Yeah, that's it's that's one of those things like every time occasionally some will pop up of like, I remember I saw someone pay posted a a screenshot of slap the monkey and I was like, oh my God, I completely forgot about that where you had to like move the mouse as fast as you can to slap the monkey and you see how fast you can do it. Just like,
00:24:55
Speaker
Oh, we were entertained by the dumbest crap we were kids. Do you remember her the boneless girl? The boneless girl? She would just like fall and you' be like falling through like balls. you remember that? That was an early Addicting Games game. Maybe. I remember the tank game where you'd shoot tanks. There were so many Addicting Games back then. Oh, man. So many dumb ones. So many good ones and so many dumb ones. e eat What was it? E-ground? E-ground?
00:25:19
Speaker
Why can't I go? Or E-Bombs World. Was it E-Ground? Yeah. There's just... There are so many... As well. Or Newgrounds. That's what it is. i was thinking E-Bombs World and Newgrounds. Yeah. I think we combined them. Yeah. Yeah. yeah Those... i those i remember just... That, AddictingGames.com, was a huge...
00:25:38
Speaker
website that I was always on. Yeah. The nick old wolf old flash old flash games were. Yeah. I played shit dude. I played for a really long time. There was a game called tribal wars, which was a browser based game that I played for months, if not years where like you build up all these villages and then you could conquer people's villages and it became your village. And eventually you had like an empire of like 40 different villages and you could join clans and then the clans could go to wars. You have massive wars across these huge maps and it was crazy.
00:26:05
Speaker
Um, But anyway, ah Sean, how about number nine? All right. Number nine for me is a game that I know will be on Hodge's list, and that is Spyro Reignited Trilogy. This is oh, it's not on there. Oh, wow. Hold on. It's not going to be on there?
00:26:21
Speaker
this is a This is a remake of the original Spyro trilogy games, obviously. These games are f freaking awesome. Collect-a-thons. I love the originals, and I think that they did this they did a great job remaking these games. Super fun to play. Makes all three games play like like each other now. I think it's gorgeous looking. Really brought back that Spyro magic. I freaking love Ripto's Rage. Spyro 2, Ripto's Rage. Greatest Spyro game ever. so good.
00:26:52
Speaker
Love the ability to, you know, swim underwater with Spyro, where in the first game you would just drown. It's like, now I can swim. It's like, well, you learned how to swim in a year. That's kind of crazy. Okay, Ellie. Yeah.
00:27:05
Speaker
But yeah, no, super fun game. I love Spyro. Spyro was great. I was like one of those games I was obsessed with as a kid. I freaking love Hunter. Love that. Love the skateboarding games in Spyro too. Like when you go skateboard. One of the hardest orbs to get in Spyro too is one of the skateboarding levels.
00:27:22
Speaker
skateboard anyway what What did I miss about learning how to swim? and and I said, Spiral learns. So in the first game, Spiral can't swim. Anytime you go into water, he just drowns. And then second game, all of sudden you can swim, and you can swim underwater.
00:27:34
Speaker
And like he's a super good swimmer. And I go, oh, just like Ellie learns how to swim in a year. Sean, you can learn how to swim in 30 minutes. It's not hard. No, yeah, but when you're 13. It's really easy to learn this. It's a mental thing. You just have to learn the motion and get over your fear. I'm going to throw you in the lava, see if you can swim in that. Well, you would burn. That's different. But, yes, Firewall Reunited Trilogy, great trilogy. You get three great games. I will say this, though.
00:28:01
Speaker
The third game is definitely a huge dip in quality. i mean, the third game still great, but this is definitely a huge dip in quality. Yes. like, bigger, like, we talk about how, like, in Crash, Crash Bandicoot 2 to Crash Bandicoot 3 Warped. Warped, there is a dip in quality, but I think the dip in the Spyro, Spyro 2 to Spyro 3 is much greater than Crash 2 to Crash 3.
00:28:21
Speaker
I think they... was just going to say three is my least favorite of the trilogy for sure. Yeah. i think they rely way too much on the extra, like not, not, not going to lie. i do love Sheila, Sheila, my Australian kangaroo. I do love Sheila, but they rely way too much on the extra characters. And I think they reuse a lot of the same level design from the second one.
00:28:41
Speaker
Yeah. And the, the sparks levels are horrible. Yeah. yeah But, and, and the fricking penguin, I can't stand the penguin. Oh, dude, I remember because there are times when you have to pick up bombs and drop them on things. And the aiming for dropping the bombs is so bad that it would drive me. Because you'd have to go find where the bombs are and then fly around to get it back there. And if you miss, you have to fly all the way back to pick another one. It was ah it was brutal. The only guest character I like is Sheila. I like Sheila.
00:29:15
Speaker
yeah Yeah. I wasn't big on her levels, but I liked her. I liked all the side characters. I just didn't like playing as them. Eddie the Yeti. Oh, I forgot about those ones. Eddie the Yeti. You can smash it with his club. That was really the only good thing about his levels.
00:29:32
Speaker
But... Yeah, I will say the only thing I'll say about it, because yes, it spoilers is going to be on my list, is ah i mean I'll just complain about it right here. And that is that there's never been a 60 FPS patch. It only runs at 30 still, which really sucks. I would love for them to patch it to run again. I have the Platinum and the 1000, all three Platinums technically. There are three different ones. You get one for each game. And I have the 1000 G's on Xbox for this game because I absolutely love this. But yes, I would still play it again if they came out with a 60 FPS mode.
00:30:07
Speaker
Hodge for forgot to mention he also has the 120 stars on the Nintendo achievement system as well. That still kills me when you said the thousand G's. That still kills me that Microsoft to this day in 2026, the year of our Lord, that they have not added a platinum equivalent on Xbox yet. It has been the number one requested feature on Xbox for like 15 years. Microsoft, which is a software company.
00:30:33
Speaker
which employs some of the best engineers in the business onto the software side, cannot figure out how to add a fucking ticker that says, oh, you got to all the achievements. Let's have a counter here that says you have a platinum or whatever they're going to call it. Come on, man. What the fuck?
00:30:47
Speaker
This is why your console is dead. All right. Yeah, but they added badges for a certain amount of gamer score you have. And oh no, but hey, if you do 100% it, it'll highlight in your list.
00:30:59
Speaker
It's crazy. they're They're literally a software giant. Like you can't you don't have a software engineer that could do this. Like, come on. Exactly. exactly it Anyway, so and it does I digress. Really quickly, because the thing about that is with a platinum, if they add DLC and stuff, it'll say you have only like 90% of the trophies, but you still have the platinum to say you got the original list done in Xbox. If they had DLC, you just go from 100% to whatever percent without the DLC. So yeah you're you've 100% of the game every time they had DLC or whatever, because like Vampire Survivors, I play that all the time and they add new trophies every three minutes, basically. And so I went from a hundred percenting it to all of a sudden I have like 50% of the trophies and it's just like, all right, well I beat the base game, but now there's 17 DLCs out. I don't have a hundred percent anymore and I need to catch up. it's Hey, you've got a hundred on the quiz, but by period seven, I added five more questions. So you don't have a hundred anymore.
00:31:55
Speaker
Yeah, exactly. It's, it's so annoying and that's why, yeah, it it sucks. Yeah. Yeah. Just picture Asian kids going home telling their parents that they only got 94 getting beat.
00:32:11
Speaker
All right. All right. ah What's your number? died Number nine is a game that we did discuss, but ah you guys didn't want to know but it is on my list because I think this is the best version of the game, and that is Last of Us Part 1. This is the one where they, even though I didn't buy it at ah full price because I had already bought it twice, and this is the third time they've made Last of Us Part 1. The way they improve the graphics to look like the PS5 game makes it look even better.
00:32:39
Speaker
Even though I do kind of like the art style of 4, they kind of made a almost... I don't know. They changed the character designs a little bit when they made them high res, but the way they updated the gameplay of this one made it so much because it plays like part two, which even though I have many complaints about that game, the game play of part two is immaculate. It is a amazingly played game. The graphics are obviously studying the soundtrack. of This game is amazing. The acting is phenomenal. So part one, i just think this is like the definitive version of it. And then they made it one more time in the complete edition. But that's not what we're here to talk about. ah
00:33:14
Speaker
But yeah, so part one, i just think it's such an um obviously Last of Us one is one of my favorite games of all time. yeah and then part part one is just like the best version of it so i had to include it and i have it this high because again it's such a tired game to talk about at this point but it is so immaculate that i just wanted to include it because i we all know you want that so good abby is my favorite character and i wish nothing but the best for her team abby baby i love abby Your team baby Abby? You like her when she's a child? Weirmo. Whoa, baby Mario?
00:33:48
Speaker
Whoa, don't twist the words now.
00:33:52
Speaker
um Yeah, team Abby. Looking forward to the show, too. Kind of. probably It's probably going be a disaster. but We'll see, though. um All right. Great pick. I'm just going to say Last of Us is going to be an honorable mention for me. Obviously, it's one of the best games of all time, but you know I didn't include it in my list because those are such...
00:34:11
Speaker
I don't know. It is a good remaster, actually. It's an amazing remaster, actually. um But I just didn't include it. I don't know why. I'm going to say it's an honorable mention. Yeah, I waited for it to go on sale before I bought it because, it was the third time of them releasing that game. and i'm like, I'm not paying $70 for this game. like i understand they like yeah I understand that like they remade it from the ground up kind of in a way. But I'm like, I'm not buying this. So I waited until it was like $40 or something. I finally did.
00:34:37
Speaker
Yeah, that part one is a legit, like, awesome actual remaster. So I'll give it its flowers. It should be on my list. but Yeah, like, I was close to doing the PS4 remaster, but that was hardly or a remaster. was more of just a port to PS4 than anything. So I was like, even though I i love it and I played it, I played three i played the PS3 one and the PS4 one. it's an It's an amazing game. But part one is, like, the true, true remaster of that game. So that's why I...
00:35:02
Speaker
includ I do prefer the art style, and the look of Ellie in the originals versus what they did to her in the newer one. But everything else is better in the newer one. Yeah, they just made her look like a younger. I mean, it makes more sense that she looks like that and it because she just looks like a younger Ashley Johnson. But the way she looks like the actress now. Yeah. Yes. But yeah, they just.
00:35:22
Speaker
I just prefer the original look. That's the Ellie that I remember, you know? Yeah. But I remember the one that looked like Ellen Page. Yeah. Yeah, the Ellen Page Ellie, exactly. That's what I remember. ah But yeah, awesome game. That's a very strong honorable mention for me. Great pick. ah Sean, did you want to say anything about that? Or am I going with my number eight?
00:35:41
Speaker
T-Loo. Yes, T-Loo. Everyone play it. ah My number eight. This one's for you, Sean. This is Weebery. Actually, i have a lot I have quite a bit of Weebery in this. It's funny, when i was when I was going through my list, audience, i went I was on Wikipedia. I don't know how you guys did it. Wikipedia had a huge list of all of the remasters and remakes that have ever been made. And I swear to God, like 70% of them were like we're like ja JRPGs and Japanese games. they love They love their remakes and remasters. So I have quite a bit of Weebery in here.
00:36:11
Speaker
And the first one... Suikoden 1 and 2 HD remaster, Sean. Just for you, man. you I played this because you recommended it. We did. it It was a good game.
00:36:23
Speaker
We did. and it was a good game. It was a good game. Two good games, actually. ah Very good games, very fun RPGs where you're going around with great stories, great characters, fun combat. You're collecting a whole bunch of characters, and you can swap them out with your parties and play with the ones that you like the most. and They have cool combo attacks, some of them do. and It's just great. I do recommend this for people who want a nice turn-based JRPG. This is a good choice for you for people.
00:36:51
Speaker
um Yeah, Sweet Kid 1 and 2. HD remaster, Sean, what do you say? Yeah, it's a great, great game. Great story, too. Like, the stories of these games are phenomenal. um Art style, phenomenal. That 16-bit Super Nintendo kind of look. um Also, it's a great, like, handheld game to just pick up and play. Like, the Switch, it's great. Yeah.
00:37:14
Speaker
Yeah, super fun. Super recommend it. If you really want to dive into that story, you've you've played them and you want want to hear our deeper thoughts on it. You can go back. It was a June episode from last year. So June 2025 was a little little one on one Weebery with ah Midnight and myself.
00:37:29
Speaker
Yeah, this would be a great portal game too, if you're a portal enjoyer. It's on PlayStation. Yeah, I think I played it on PlayStation. um Yeah, definitely check that out. Check out our episode, Suikoden 1 and 2. Hodge, what do you think about Suikoden? And I know you love it.
00:37:45
Speaker
me I've never played it, but I'm happy you enjoy it. now i know yeah It is one of those where I love the art style. Obviously, that that old school art style is absolutely gorgeous, but yeah, I've never played them. A lot of unique characters, too. like Some of the characters are very unique. yeah There's a ton. How many is there? It's like 100 plus. I think there's 108 in the first one.
00:38:09
Speaker
Yeah, and and and the second one's about the same, right? Yeah, I remember because I got mad at you because didn't recruit all 108. Yeah, mean, don't know. Anybody got time for that? It's Octopath. I recruited a lot, though.
00:38:21
Speaker
I beat Octopath, Sean. All right. I rolled the credits. I beat the boss. Just because I didn't beat the the masochist f freaking final, final, final secret boss. Sean, what's your number eight, sir?
00:38:34
Speaker
All right. My number eight is a game we have not talked about yet, and that is... ratchet and clank 2016 the remake from the ground up of the original ratchet and clank game now i know this game brought a lot of people into the ratchet and clank series the first game in a long time was the first game and it was the first game on the ps4 hour and it was like i said it was a remake of the original and some people had problems with this game because it it changed the story a little bit in that first game ratchet and clank kind of really didn't get along that much they kind of
00:39:08
Speaker
They hated each other at first, and then this game, they're kind of automatically, oh, let's be friends. But um I really enjoyed this game. This game was freaking gorgeous on PS4. It's still gorgeous today. um Super fun. They added extra things in. They added some extra planets, um added some extra weapons from the future Ratchet games as well.
00:39:26
Speaker
um It was a great entry point. they tried this This was like Sony's attempt bring Ratchet back. like they tried They made a movie out of it too that completely bombed. Oh god, I forgot about that. Yeah, actually sorry. It was so bad. It was horrendous. But the game is super fun. I like the the the added stuff they added in compared to the original was awesome. It makes going back and playing the original kind of not as enjoyable. um some of the stuff is one-to-one remade but like i said they added some extra stuff um i think it was uh really cool some of the um like the they had some some of the new voice acting was uh much better but this game when people say oh well it looks like pixar this game really does look like pixar like it was absolutely gorgeous and still gorgeous today yeah
00:40:14
Speaker
ah Yeah, I actually, i was very close to including this, but I wasn't sure if it counted as, a because I had never played the originals. This was my entry point into Ratchet and Clank because I was a Jack and Daxter boy growing up. But ah I, so I was close to including this, but yeah, I wasn't sure if it include if it counted, but obviously it doesn't matter. This is a ground up lead egg. Yeah. Yes. But this, this game, I liked it more than Rift Apart. This game was absolutely phenomenal. I was obsessed with this game. I i got the platinum in it pretty quickly after it came out or after. don't remember if I played it at launch or not, but came out 2016. I remember.
00:40:52
Speaker
It must have been shortly because I didn't get my PS4 until Uncharted 4 came out, so like which I know is 2016. Yeah, so I probably got this shortly after my PS4 because I probably beat Uncharted 4. It's like, no, I need something new to play. And so I got this. But yeah, I absolutely ah love, love, love this game. So great, great. Like like college, like, you know, the Groovatron, that weapon where you throw it and make all the enemies like dance like that wasn't in the original.
00:41:19
Speaker
Oh, really? Yeah, that wasn't in the original. yeah Nice. Yeah, that's awesome. And like, you know, like Captain Quirk? Mm-hmm. Like, you know how he's like narrating the whole game?
00:41:30
Speaker
Yeah, yeah. Like, it's not in the original either. Like, this is like, so that that's why people people say this is like him telling the story of Ratchet and Clank. Oh, really? Yeah. I remember I almost saw the movie because I loved this game so much, but I heard it was so bad that I was like, man, I'm so outpassing.
00:41:48
Speaker
Yeah. Alright You're up Hot ah you're up heart All right. Number eight for me.
00:42:00
Speaker
This one goes back a little bit because it was a remaster that came out on the Xbox 360 and PS3. And that is the Dragon Ball Z Budokai HD collection. What a what a game.
00:42:11
Speaker
Yeah, this is a collection, an HD collection of Dragon Ball Z Budokai 1 and 3. Sadly, it does not include. Not including the second one. What a freaking dumb move.
00:42:23
Speaker
Yeah, and number two had the best intro and intro song of any Dragon Ball Z game. It was so good. I usually i actually learned how i learned how to play it on my saxophone back in the day. And the second one also, everyone complains about how the Budokai game just retell the same story over and over again. Budokai 2's campaign was not just a retelling. It was like ah their whole their own spin on it.
00:42:45
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. It was so good. But the, the first, the first one was just basically a retelling of you literally just do the battles. The cut scenes would be basically the plot of the game. And then three was a little different in the sense that you kind of followed the plot, but you, it was cool. Cause it was like an open map that you flew around and stuff and you could find like secrets here and there. And like, I remember at, at,
00:43:08
Speaker
like to unlock Broly at one point, instead of going to following the map of to the next mission, there's just like, there's something going on at like the tournament and you go there and there's Broly there. and you're like, well what's going on? Like, so they had all these cool like side plots and stuff, but.
00:43:21
Speaker
Yeah, i've I've enjoyed some of the Dragon Ball Z games since, but the OG Budokais are by far my favorite Dragon Ball Z fighting games. And I feel like a lot of them are kind of overcomplicated nowadays, like the big open world where you're like flying around to fight each other. It's cool. Those are arena fighters. These are more like...
00:43:39
Speaker
These are side, these are, so yeah, 2D like Mortal Kombat type fighters. And this is, these are, I'm not a fighting game person, but these ones I was, upset I always did those those tournament modes and stuff where you do the actual tournament, by ah the world tournament and stuff. And yeah, I absolutely love these games. I wish it wasn't stuck on PS3 for the PlayStation because I would try and get the platinum because I did one hundred percent. I got the thousand G's on Xbox. So I would love to,
00:44:06
Speaker
beat this again on the PlayStation, but it is locked on the PS3, so I am unable to, which makes me sad. Dude, Budokai 1, the what-if story, you get the Hercule mode, where Hercule actually wins the Cell games. That was super fun. Budokai 3, Dragon World, running flying around with all the different characters found in the Dragon Balls.
00:44:24
Speaker
Wasn't one of the one-ifs that Cell absorbed Krillin instead? It turned into Krillin Cell. Also, shout out to in Budokai 3, we played played this game so much. I remember like me and my friend Donnie, we were obsessed with this game. and like sleepovers, this is all we would play. And I remember...
00:44:47
Speaker
One time we fell asleep and the game was running. It was like Gohan's like Dragon World campaign. And I remember he rolled over and like the volume was up all the way. i don't know why. And he rolled over, hit the controller. And Hodge, you remember how loud the button It was like, bink.
00:45:00
Speaker
Yeah, yeah. Yeah, and it like freaked us out. I remember that. But we used play this game all the time. Oh my God. The tournament modes were great. I freaking loved them. Yeah, ah absolutely amazing. So yeah.
00:45:13
Speaker
Hodge, did you play the new one that came out recently? Sparking Zero? That was like two years ago. Come on. The Budokai game. First of all, it was Budokai Tenkaichi and Sparking Zero. Come on, Midnight. Learn the terminology. Yeah, man. But no, I do want to play it eventually. just never got around to it. actually did see a copy of it. Fake fan. Fake fan. Well, again, because one, I'm not a fighting game person. But two, I just haven't enjoyed a lot of the recent Dragon Ball Z games. So, like, I tried Fighters, and I was so bad at it. I'm just like, yeah, I'm like, I can't do I'm terrible fighting games too.
00:45:47
Speaker
Yeah, so I do want to eventually get Sparking Zero. I know I'd probably... Because I know now they have like Sparking Zero Dima Edition. Or no, it's Kakarot. They Dima Edition. But like, yeah, they do all these different... Sparking Zero is great. It was a lot of fun. I really enjoyed it. Yeah, so I feel like that game just came and went. Like, people weren't talking about it.
00:46:05
Speaker
just shame Yeah, a shame. Actually, I'm really excited for Xenoverse 3. Me too, a little bit. I played Xenoverse 1 and 2. I did, yeah. my yeah My boy Nick Killshot played them, and he got me playing them.
00:46:22
Speaker
Yeah, I played one of them, but... um Yeah, I do. I want to i want to eventually get around to Sparking Zero. I just haven't. So one day, hopefully.
00:46:32
Speaker
Because I do. Because that's also... i love it because back on the PS2, it was very PS2 looking. And even the 360 remaster, it was very old. But now it just straight up looks like you're playing the anime. Like that's how good the graphics are, which is really why I want to play it. Because I've seen the cut scenes or like...
00:46:51
Speaker
in game, like when you're doing like a big Kamehameha or whatever, and it like goes into, and it look looks like you're watching the anime. it doesn't look like a video game. It's so cool looking in the same way that like South Park looks like a South Park episode. Like I, it's, I just really, yeah, I cannot wait. I'm going to play sparking zero. Eventually I did see it at GameStop on sale and I was very close to buying it. I just didn't cause I would just sit in my backlog forever. So I'll, I'll get around to it eventually, but I am, but for now HD collection.
00:47:20
Speaker
That's what I'll talk about. And that's what I love. So, yeah. All right. All right. My number seven game is going to be Kingdoms of Amalur Re-Reckoning.
00:47:34
Speaker
That's right. This was, ah i don't know if you know anything about this game, but this was by Schilling. You remember Curt Schilling, the MLB player with the bloody sock?
00:47:45
Speaker
Yeah, the bloody sock. It was really ketchup. was it? No, it was probably blood, right? Who would put ketchup in their socks? Did he? He missed like all of next season.
00:47:56
Speaker
Yeah, yeah, yeah. So anyway, this MLB player, Curt Schilling, for the Boston Red Sox. Did they win the World Series? Yes, two thousand yeah they broke rigo against the yanes They broke the curse. Yeah.
00:48:09
Speaker
Anyway, so he started a studio, 38 games or whatever, and they made this game Kingdoms of Amalur, and it got completely drowned out. ah It came out like right after Skyrim and everyone was like just playing Skyrim and people didn't really care about this, but it was actually like a pretty good game.
00:48:23
Speaker
So they have kingdoms of Amalur, Re Reckoning, Kingdoms of Nerd, wow. I did not spell it, so I destroyed Kingdoms of Nerd. Kingdoms of Amalur Re-Reckoning is it's a nice little remaster. Nothing too crazy. It came out somewhat recently. They even actually came out with a new expansion pack, which was cool. Like way after this game. Like this game came out in 2012.
00:48:45
Speaker
And they came out with an expansion and a remaster for it. I don't even know, like 2022, 2023. So it was very weird. um But yeah, I played it. It was cool. This is a fun game. It's ah it's a Western RPG, big semi-open world where you're going around, you're doing a bunch of quests. There's a whole bunch of side quests all over the place where you're going around helping people and doing stuff. The main quest is a big fantasy experience. You know, the usual fantasy stuff. I think R.A. Salvatore like did some of the writing on this. like They had some big names on this, and it was ah it was not bad. Yeah.
00:49:17
Speaker
There you go. Kingdoms of Ambler, Re-Reckoning. That's my pick. I know you guys probably haven't played it. If you support tax evasion and stealing money from states, go play this game because Curt Schilling robbed the state of Rhode Island with so much money on millions of dollars for this game.
00:49:31
Speaker
Well, I actually do support tax evasion, but not necessarily from states. More from the federal government. Yeah, he robbed the state of Rhode Island so much money. Income tax is theft, so I do support evading that.
00:49:44
Speaker
But that's neither here nor there. so I'm going to put a i'm gonna have to put a disclosure up on the thing of we do not support crime. I do. I do. But I don't speak for the whole podcast. There you go. Sean, what's your number seven, sir? All right. My number seven is, very quickly, it is Star Ocean, the second star. star ocean the second story are this is a remake of the second star ocean game um but it adds in some extra things um the psp remakes this is like a third remake of it like they remade it for psp they added some things and then they remade it again this is a complete remake and it's that hd 2d art style super great story two different protagonists two different campaigns uh you can recruit a bunch of characters a lot of different optional side quests stories super compelling um
00:50:29
Speaker
Love star ocean because you, you, you get the sci-fi aspects, but then you also get that high fantasy aspects. They kind of combine the two. There's always one character who's from the the high fantasy world. And there's always one character from like the, uh, like, you know, the sci-fi space world. And it's always super cool. And the worlds get blended together. I know midnight, you are going to play this soon. Eventually.
00:50:50
Speaker
Could be playing it right now, but you were like, oh play paper Mario. It's better. Um, it's beyond the point. Um, But super cool game, super fun, highly suggested. I have the Platinum in it. Highly replayable as well, like I said.
00:51:05
Speaker
Really, really great game. It's not a turn-based combat game. It's like a you encounter, the enemies are visible on the world map, you encounter them, and it goes into a battle, and it's like action-based. Like you press buttons and stuff like that.
00:51:19
Speaker
Sweet. yeah I'm really looking forward to playing this game. I think it looks awesome. I like the idea of the future meets fantasy. The art looks incredible. Hodge, if you haven't, you've got check out the art style for this game. It looks incredible. You'll love it as an art guy.
00:51:34
Speaker
Yeah, and the pre-order bonus was like super cool. gave you like a full-on diorama of um not diarrhea diorama of like a scene from the game.
00:51:45
Speaker
Hodge, I know i know hodge Hodge. I know you get diarrhea a lot, so I had to say it. or At least I think you'll like the art style. I don't know. It's a unique take on the HD 2D. Let's get it let's get let's get a Dragon Ball Z Legacy of Goku remade like this, please. go I would kill for a Legacy of Goku trilogy remake. That would be sweet. and i could play At least add that but at least add them to ns so just Oh, man.
00:52:13
Speaker
alright well there we go star ocean Podge, number seven. Nomos serrion. right. This one isn't a like a huge remaster of the game. It was more of kind of an up res to bring to modern consoles, but these games are amazing. And that is the Bioshock collection. ah All three games. I absolutely love the first and infinite or obviously like the masterpiece games were two is over hated. I think it's actually a phenomenal game. The story is an amazing. Yeah. The story is an amazing, but the gameplay is so much better than the first game. Like the first game again is one of my favorite games. If I'm not, I think i might have ranked it number one overall. Uh, it is one of my favorite games of all time, if not my favorite game of all time, but the gameplay is way worse than the other two games. And, uh,
00:53:01
Speaker
Yeah, so all three of these being brought to modern consoles, I bought these immediately. I even bought them again recently on PlayStation because they were like four bucks each. So I'm like, all right, well, it gives me a reason to play them again. So I ah yeah, i I absolutely love Bioshock. And so i hope I want that RTX remaster that was leaked.
00:53:23
Speaker
years ago to be a real thing because these games with ray tracing would look um amazing, especially rapture. Like Columbia looks amazing, of course, but rapture if with with ray tracing, that would be amazing. So I hope one day that exists. As for now, I'm waiting for Judas. Can I wait for that? And Bioshock 4 hopefully is good, but what was it's going to be, it's a new studio though. So, That's why I'm kind of iffy on it. But I am so i love this Bioshock trilogy. So the collection and the DLC of Bioshock 2 and Infinite are amazing.
00:54:04
Speaker
Bioshock Infinite's DLC Burl at Sea Part 1 and 2, Parts 1 and 2, are probably my favorite DLC of all time. But Bioshock 2's DLC is also amazing. So all of this on one collection How could you go wrong with it? So that is why I had to put it. And the reason why I have it ranked this is one on the one where it's like it's on the top half of my list or bottom half, I guess, technically on my list, because it wasn't like the greatest remaster, but it was an awesome collection that improved the gameplay a little bit and brought forward. So that's kind of why I included it, but not super high, because otherwise this would be top three in terms of just quality of games. But In terms of remaster, not the greatest remaster, but it's very good, obviously, still.
00:54:47
Speaker
So, yeah. Yeah. Amazing pick. I don't have it on my list for that reason because the remaster wasn't much. Kind of almost like a port it felt like. But yeah amazing games though.
00:54:58
Speaker
Incredible games. I think all three are masterpieces. I think 2 is basically a masterpiece. I love 2. It's the weakest of the 3 but it's still great. Yeah, when I say it's like the weakest it's like 1 and Infinite are 11 out of 10 whereas 2 is like a 9.8 out of 10. Exactly. it's yeah It's still amazing. It's just the other two are amazing. or So three amazing games that everybody needs to play and should play. And I am very excited about, like you said, Judas. And I think Bioshock four is going to be awesome too. i um I think, isn't Ken Levine consulting on it? I think he is. I think he's involved. Maybe. i don't know. I haven't heard. I thought he is. So I just, I heard that from a sacred symbols.
00:55:37
Speaker
I heard maybe. Oh, is he? Is he going to put Lincoln Mario in it? Nice climber. You're going to inhale things and turn into them like Kirby.
00:55:49
Speaker
There you go. There go. But yeah, I think both games are going to be awesome. Bioshock 2 is my favorite. I know. Bioshock 2 is your favorite? Yeah, it is. I like 2 better than 1. I mean, it's great. I can't hate it. It's fun playing as the big daddy. I think the story in 2 is better. think the story in 2 is better.
00:56:06
Speaker
Yeah. and I disagree there, but that's fine. And I think the gameplay is so much better. Oh, the gameplay is way better than the first one for sure. Yes. that I also played them back to back though, like in 2021. So,
00:56:19
Speaker
yeah And he didn't have ah a hating bitch in his ear telling him that two was bad. Like a lot of other people do not, not you, Hodge. I'm talking about the general people out there, you know Yeah. People out there are like two is bad. like how dot you know shut up How do you know? I didn't have a a chip installed in my brain because you're, a because you're a Chad and you don't drown out that noise. Does it protect you from the Yeah.
00:56:41
Speaker
The 5G. That was the vaccine. That was the vaccine. Oh, my bad. My bad. All right, boys. ah Anything about Bioshock or shall we move on? I'm going to keep it rolling.
00:56:54
Speaker
Number six for me, Persona 4 Golden. This is technically a remaster slash remake kind of of Persona 4. Yeah. i'm gonna We're going to count it. And it's one of my favorite games of all time. it was And this was actually ported and over to the Xbox One and Xbox Series, actually, which is where I played it. ah So, you know, it was originally it was on PS2, right? ah Persona 4 was on PS2 and then Golden's Vita.
00:57:23
Speaker
Yeah, and then Golden went to the Vita, and then they brought it over to Xbox Series, which is where I played it, and it was it was very nice, and i I love it, and I recommend it. It's my favorite Persona game still. Much better than 3.
00:57:36
Speaker
Way better than 3, I think. And better than 5 from what I played, although I didn't fully finish 5, so... But anyway, Persona 4 Golden is amazing. Everyone needs to play it. Shout out to the hot goth doctor. That's the one that I hooked up with. She's awesome. And this game has an incredible story, amazing characters, really fun combat. I like the little individual dungeons. They're all like separately themed. It's not like Tartarus where it's just a freaking tower. It's very cool.
00:58:03
Speaker
I love Persona 4 Golden. That is my number six pick. Yeah, Persona 4 is great. Shout out to Teddy. I know I get a lot crap for that because I like the Teddy. Yeah, Teddy's cool. Oh, that is not a popular opinion. a lot of people hate Teddy, which is hilarious. Teddy Roosevelt.
00:58:18
Speaker
He's in Persona? Teddy Roosevelt? He's in Persona? Yes, yes, he's in Persona. It's crazy. I think I was one of the 50,000 people to actually buy Persona 4 on PS2 in the US. Like the original Persona 4 on PS2. That was a late PS2 game. Not lot bought it.
00:58:34
Speaker
It must be worth a pretty penny then. No, I was one of those kids who left their discs out and, you know, kids I hated those kids. um You hated yourself? Yes. No, Persona 4, great game. Awesome. Golden. Phenomenal.
00:58:51
Speaker
Yep, and I got the golden ending. Great ending. Great game. God, I love that game. Where is Persona 6? What the f- They're waiting for you to finish 5. They are, actually. I do need to i need to play Persona 5 Royal, yeah.
00:59:05
Speaker
I actually... It's like 100 plus hours. i'm like I bought the 3, 4, and 5 remake trilogy thingy on PlayStation during one of their sales recently, and I'm like, maybe one day I'll I feel like it's one of those things that would be a good Portal game of like...
00:59:20
Speaker
It is a really good um it's a very good handheld game. like That's why that's why i think Golden resonated with so many people. It's on Vita. and I have to tell you to play Golden. yeah I am going to tell you to play Golden. I don't care that they're making it. Just play Golden. and It's perfect. or I actually have Golden on my PS Vita, too, because I panic bought it when they were talking about it closing to the store. They were going to close the store for a week. yeah Yeah, and so I panic bought it. because it was I mean, it was only like $20, was like, yeah, fuck it, I'll buy it in case I ever get around to it, and then i never play it.
00:59:48
Speaker
gra i don't I barely played my Vita. I played Brick Breaker or Sacred ah Twin Breakers. and yeah and And then I played the God of War remakes or Araw Trilogy on it. But that's that's all I've really played on my Vita.
01:00:05
Speaker
It's right here, actually. My Vita. But yeah. Actually, I should probably i should probably play my Vita more. Same my other consoles that I don't touch that often. But Yeah, anyway.
01:00:17
Speaker
Persona, four. Good choice. Yeah. All right, who's next? Me. Sean. Sean. All right. My number six is... A game, again, that we have not talked about yet. And that is a game that Midnight has played and he really enjoyed. And that is Trails in the Sky First Chapter. um This is a remake of the first Trails game.
01:00:39
Speaker
Great. I was very hesitant because that Trails in the Sky trilogy is my least favorite of the Trails, like, arcs. But I was super happy with this remake. I think it did they did it so much justice. Yeah.
01:00:53
Speaker
Bringing that 2D art style into three d they did a really good job with that. Phenomenal soundtrack, phenomenal acting. Adding in like the the gameplay from the more modern Trails games made it even better. I'm so excited for the second one that's coming out later this year. And then I'm so excited for the third one that eventually they're going to make because it's super good. And Midnight, you should just, instead of waiting, you should just go play the second one right now because you can.
01:01:19
Speaker
How about now? How let's get about now? This game is super good. Midnight. we We did an episode on this. so We did do an episode. Everyone would go listen to it. Yes.
01:01:32
Speaker
oh Listen to it right now. Thank you for watching this episode. You can leave it now and just go listen to that one instead. Thank you. Yeah. No, it's super good game, though. like i really I was very hesitant going in. because i remember If you guys remember, I was hesitant going into this because i I didn't think it needed to be remade, and I was proven wrong.
01:01:53
Speaker
Yeah, you're wrong a lot. Just like you're wrong that I should play 2 now, but I'm making the right choice to wait for the awesome remake. You think I'm wrong right now? Midnight, I got a question for you. Okay.
01:02:04
Speaker
You ready? Yeah. Who won the 1997 World Series? No, the yankees Yankees. Marlins. Come on. So you're wrong. I'm right. All right. Number five. Number six. I was going to ask, was Hanley Ramirez? He was not.
01:02:21
Speaker
He was way later. He was in like 2008, right? Hanley Ramirez was probably like 13. yeah yeah He was in like 2008-ish, right? Yeah. To be fair, I remember he was really great, though, in like 2008, 2009. Yeah.
01:02:34
Speaker
To be fair, picking a Yankees, is like there's like a 40% chance you're right. so That's a good pick, right? is No, not a 40% chance, Hodge. Probably like a less than a 27% chance. you about all time? only won Yeah, Hodge. Actually, no, they only won three in the They won 96, 98, 99. They won in 2000 as well.
01:02:55
Speaker
but at forty percent there you go hoge actually no they' me three in the ninety s they won ninety six ninety eight ninety nine they won in two thousand as twelve Hodge, what is your number six, my friend? My number six is this is another one that's a little bit of a weaker remaster, but I still love it.
01:03:14
Speaker
And that is the bio shot or not. bow That was my last one. That is the uncharted collection, the Nathan Drake collection. I absolutely love these games. I love all four of them. It's it's one of those things, i remember when we did our top list and Yumi and Locke, obviously Midnight, sadly couldn't be with us on that episode, but Yumi, or Sean, me, and Locke all had a different Uncharted game on our list, and that's basically how it is. Every game in this game, in this series is good. I even i don't think one's as badly dated as people act like it is. It's not perfect, but
01:03:48
Speaker
it's not perfect but Yeah, it's it's not nearly as ah dated as people act like it is. But all three of these games, especially their plots, all three are phenomenal. I love all three of these games. So...
01:04:01
Speaker
when the Nathan Drake collection came out before four launched, bring them to PS4 and giving them better FPS and all that kind of stuff. And I think they did improve one's gameplay a bit in it. Yeah. They got rid of the motion. They got rid of the motion. Like when you're walking into the logs and the original, you know, like you balance it with the controller. Oh, I forgot about that. Yeah. They improved the, they, they did improve the gameplay a little bit with the, the, the gunplay. They took the gunplay from the second one. You also in the original to reload, you had to like shake the controller to reload. You'd be like, yeah,
01:04:30
Speaker
Yeah, that's yeah that stuff's that's bad stuff. But yeah ah this this collection was phenomenal. And obviously, i really wish it would get the ah the Last of Us Part 1 treatment of actually making that remaking them to look like 4, because 4's graphics are... unbelievable and if those three games looked like and played like that oh i'd be all over that baby but uh for now though the nathan drake collection on ps4 is phenomenal and it's obviously for you can play it on the ps5 it is forwards compatible or whatever so uh yeah i love uncharted i love
01:05:07
Speaker
I last of us part one is probably objectively better than all the uncharted games, but uncharted as a series, I love 10 times more than the last of us series. Cause it's just more fun. Mostly like, obviously ah last of us is like heartbreakingly good, but like uncharted is just, It's Indiana Jones, but even dumber and more fun. So, yeah. Uncharted is number six for I still need to play those. like that's ah That's a big black eye on my resume. And this does beg the question, Sean, when are you going to play Tomb Raider, the remake, huh? The what? When are you to play the Tomb Raider remake from 2014 whatever, Sean? Yeah.
01:05:51
Speaker
yeah he's a contemplating life as right now. He is. I don't know yet. Eventually. Tomb Raider. You put that chart and I'll play Tomb Raider. How's that?
01:06:02
Speaker
There you go. All right. I do want to i do want to replay those, but i actually I want to replay the, which are not on my list because I haven't played them, is the, i want to play those Lara Croft trilogy ones that came out recently, like the two p s one remake ones. The triangular looking Lara Croft.
01:06:18
Speaker
Yeah, I want to play those again. And then obviously I cannot wait for Legacy of Atlantis. and yeah When's that coming out? yeah Sometime this year. It's not dated yet. I think it's just still listed as 2026. But I'm guessing during the summer showcases they'll probably have the release date. It'll probably be second half of the year. If I do guess.
01:06:34
Speaker
That is the winter showcase for those in Australia. Just put that out there. Okay. Yeah. For the audio listeners, we're going to do a recap here now that we've reached the halfway point. So I'm going to go first. My number 10, Sleeping Dogs Definitive Edition. Number 9, Age of Empires Definitive Edition.
01:06:53
Speaker
Number 8, Suikoden 1 and 2 HD Remaster. 7, Kingdoms of Amalur Re-Reckoning. And 6, Persona 4 Golden. Sean. ah My number 10 is Warhawk 2007. My number 9 is Spyro, the Reignited Trilogy. Number 8 is Ratchet and Clank 2016. I did not see that until i just saw that. That's a funny wait out way to write that. Number seven, Star Ocean, the second story R. And a number six, The Trails in the Sky, the first chapter.
01:07:24
Speaker
um Yes. Hodge? I have at number 10, Alan Wake Remastered, 9, Last of Us Part 1, 8, the DBZ Budokai HD Collection, 7 is the Bioshock Collection, and 6 is the Uncharted Nathan Drake Collection. Guys, you guys are lucky I'm not like Anchorman and just read whatever's in front of me.
01:07:47
Speaker
Well, you should have That would have been funny. i was I had a little smile on my face. I wondering what you were going to say when you got to that one. Stay classy, San Diego. All right, guys, at number five for me, Trails in the Sky, first chapter. That's right, Sean, continuing from your number six is my number five. What synergy, what synergy. What an amazing game this was. I really enjoyed this a lot. Watch our episode. I'm going to keep this brief because Sean just talked about this is an amazing remake, an awesome cast of characters, an awesome world, an awesome story, and I'm very excited to play the second chapter later this year. Go watch our spoiler cast.
01:08:26
Speaker
Thank you. Sean, what's your number five? All right. My number five.

Remake Reviews: Link's Awakening & Dead Space

01:08:32
Speaker
Hang one second. I'm just going to add the time. I was not ready with the time. Usually I'm ready with a timestamp. Usually, you know, we, we, we riffed a little bit, but all right. My number five is a little game called Link's Awakening on the switch. Um,
01:08:49
Speaker
This was the clay, you know, top-down remake of the original Link's Awakening game. ah I forgot about this. This game was absolutely gorgeous. yeah It looked like a, again, looked like a diorama. um yeah Super fun. It was literally a one-to-one remake of the original game, but they just completely overhauled the graphics.
01:09:12
Speaker
Came out in November of 2019. was an unbelievable fun game. People love Link's Awakening. it was ah it It was a throwback to how Zelda was made like before they went to 3D, fully on 3D.
01:09:29
Speaker
Loved the top-down aspect. And it was different. There's no Ganon in this game. um It's very different. There's a lot of I can't tell you, I can't i can't spoil the endings. I don't want to, I know what's the game came out in 1993, like the original, but I don't want to spoil what is going on in the game, but it's super fun. It's super quirky because there's so many things that don't fit in the Zelda world. And once you find out why you kind of understand, like why these things would be in the game, but the art style is amazing. and it it It took off so much. They they ended up making that, the Zelda game in the same art style, the the newer one that focuses on Princess Zelda, which the titles,
01:10:07
Speaker
escaping me right now i can't remember why um yeah yeah it's an awesome game lynx awakening remake um they just call it lynx awakening uh and that clay art style and that freaking link that amiibo can get the amiibo of that link it's freaking awesome yeah dude i completely this one completely s slipped my mind when i was making my list i loved this game i still need to play echoes of wisdom even though i've heard it's echoes of wisdom yes thank you hon Yeah, i I do. I do still need to play that. But this game, it was one of those where was like, am I going to enjoy it? Because honestly, the original Legend Zelda, it's good, but I've never had like, oh, my God, it's so amazing kind of thought about it like like I have for like Ocarina. and Breath of the Wild and stuff like that. But, like, this one, I was like, I'll play it to see if I enjoy it. And I was obsessed with it. I played this game obsessively until I beat it. It is so good because it's one of those, you know, the Metroidvania, quote-unquote, where you keep returning. You know, like, I can't get past this. Why can't? and then you realize you have to go get a new power. and yeah And I just love those kinds of games. And the map's obviously not, like,
01:11:12
Speaker
overly, overly huge. So you always know kind of where you are and where you're returning to and stuff. And yeah I just, I absolutely love this game. So that is a, that is a great, great choice. And like the the world changes as the story goes on to like the the characters, like move places, the world changes. It's it's great. It's a great game.
01:11:29
Speaker
It's so, this is the best way to put this is by far the best way to play the game. Oh yeah. Yeah. it Phenomenal. All right. I'm guessing you have nothing to say about this midnight. I get into my five.
01:11:42
Speaker
Get into it. All right. Number five is one that I have played during my time on the show. And as people know, I was absolutely obsessed with it when I did. And that is Dead Space. The remake, of course, obviously ah this game blew me away as for those who may not have heard before i tried playing i played like the dead space demo or whatever on 360 way back in the day and i just didn't think it played that well i thought i was like this game like it wasn't like too scary i know a lot of people say it's like one of the scariest games ever but it wasn't like too scary. I think it's just, I didn't think it played that well. So I just never, i was like, I guess dead space just isn't a game for me. So I just, it just left my mind forever. And then this came out and was getting all these amazing reviews. I'm like, all right, I'll try Cause I think I got it either on sale or was a game with gold or something. I can't remember what it was, but i was like, all right, I'll give it a, I'll give it a shot. And I was immediately drawn in. obsessed with this game. I played the crap out of it, even to the point where,
01:12:43
Speaker
I remember we talked about in this. i was like, I hope they remake two. And then like a week later, they said they're not remaking two. And you're like, damn. hard So I played. Yeah. so I played. Because I waited forever to play this game. So i i ah played the OG ah two. And still, even though the graphics are far worse, obviously, it's still a very fun game. And it's criminal. Yeah, it's criminal. They're not going to remake two now.
01:13:06
Speaker
But even though I will say the one thing I like about one over two is one year. It's a again, it's like Link's Awakening where you're on the same map the entire game. And so you can go back to places where two is more linear and you go from place to place and you don't return anywhere, which I, I love the being able to return to places. ah But yeah, this dead space remake was one of the best remakes. Obviously it's number five on my list. It's one of the best horror games I've ever played. One the best remakes I've ever played. So. Yeah, Dead Space remake.
01:13:36
Speaker
Absolutely phenomenal game. All right. Good pick. um Sean, did you have any thoughts or I'll move on? No, great pick. College, great pick. Dead Space. Space of Dead.
01:13:48
Speaker
yeah Definitely a good pick. Awesome. long I didn't play the remake. I didn't play the remake, but the first game is ah is awesome, of course. um All right. My number four, Mafia Definitive Edition. I played this not too long ago, like last year or something. I don't know. This game is beautiful.
01:14:06
Speaker
The graphics are incredible. like It's stunning. They did a great job remastering this. This is a really fun, cinematic, linear, story-based game.
01:14:17
Speaker
Really enjoyed it. Very good, very recommended if you want like a nice little quick, I don't know, 12-hour Mafia game. you know what more What more is there to say? I've talked about this before. I'm keep it kind of brief. um I do still need to play Mafia 2. It's installed on my PlayStation. I got to get to it. I keep putting it off because I got so many other games I want to play, but I'm going to play 2 at some point. um I believe they did so good with Mafia Definitive Edition that the 2 is going to be a visual downgrade, even though it was also a Definitive Edition. They did better with the first one, from what I think. So, hmm.
01:14:51
Speaker
Yeah. Just look at look at the graphics, man. It looks incredible. Yeah, did I this game is actually another one that's downloaded on my Xbox that I need to get around to. I just haven't ah because I've heard just how much people love this game that I really want to play it. And and I think it was it might have been you even who told me, like, it's not that long of a game. It's like 20, 30 hours. So I'm like, oh, OK, good. It's music to my ears when I hear that. So I do want to play this game eventually.
01:15:20
Speaker
Just need to get around to it. Yeah, let me see how long it is to be. so because i don't remember at this point. 12 hours. 10 and a half hours for the main story.
01:15:32
Speaker
13 hours for main plus sides. There you go. it's It's good. I like it. Very good. And people say 2 is better. i haven't played 2 yet. so Nice. There you go. Sean?
01:15:45
Speaker
Alright. Next up for me is... a little game i like to call pokemon heart gold and soul silver um is a full-on remake of pokemon gold and silver actually it's like more of a remake of um like crystal because it includes all the aspects of crystal as well but this game is freaking amazing some people consider this the greatest pokemon game of all time um i I'm right there. I mean, I could totally see why people would. It has the gorgeous art style of the of the DS games. It takes place in the Johto region plus the Kanto region. They add in some new things. they add in the Safari Zone. You get that whole national decks at the time, which was 493 Pokemon.
01:16:29
Speaker
Following Pokemon with you. they adjust They adjust some of the things that made Johto kind of like a little weird. Like the level scaling was a little bad in the original Gen 2 Johto games. They fixed that here.
01:16:43
Speaker
So much post-game stuff to do. Yeah, this is is a phenomenal game. um We are going to be doing some future Pokemon episodes. So we will probably talk about it a lot more then. I'm actually currently replaying Hardcore, continuing my nuzzla Hardcore Nuzlocke run.
01:17:00
Speaker
with the pokemon games but yeah hard gold soul silver freaking outstanding games and i don't know what more to say when it came out they had they gave you like a little poke walker and you could transfer your pokemon in and you could like train them outside by like taking steps and walking and i used to take the poke walker with me to track practice and run with it and i'd come home and i'd be like oh look at this my pokemon's all leveled up get these secret items secret abilities was super awesome i freaking love this and there's nothing funnier than running around with like um like gro the legendary Pokemon Groudon following you because he's like supposed to be like 70 feet tall. And he's just just following you as a sprite. It was super cool, though, all the different overworld sprites they gave you. um
01:17:41
Speaker
Really cool, too, because like, Hodge, remember in Johto when you infiltrate like the the radio tower, that part and in the Johto games? With the Team Rocket overtook the Goldenrod City radio tower?
01:17:55
Speaker
I'd have to maybe. It's been a while. Well, in the original Johto games, you go in, you kind of like take you you you go in, you break in and like kind of take down Team Rocket. In this game, they give you like a rocket suit, a fake rock Team Rocket suit. And you're running around the overworld like a rocket suit on, like a Team Rocket suit. It's super cool.
01:18:14
Speaker
And like when you're in battle, you have the Team Rocket suit on. I freaking loved it. was awesome. HeartGold SoulSilver. Amazing

Halo & Mafia: Definitive Editions

01:18:20
Speaker
games. Yeah. i I need to find a way to play this game. cause You can on your 3DS.
01:18:26
Speaker
Is it in the digital store? No, it's not. You can buy cartridge for like $190. That's the thing is I'm not going to spend $150 on this game. Yeah. not buying this game $150. But eventually, hopefully one day, I'll be able to
01:18:40
Speaker
so but eventually hopefully one day i'll be able to find find a copy that's not going to cost me the same as a cost you went on a lake yeah so one day hopefully but today is not that day yeah super super great game and uh everyone knows best starter uh so yeah it's in a cool okay Good stuff. Good stuff. ah Pokemon X and Y was pretty great. Oh, my God. Shout out, Midnight.
01:19:14
Speaker
Hey, I enjoyed it. All right. Hodge, what's your number four? All right. Numero four for you, boy, is where's my list? There it is The Halo Master Chief Collection. ah Obviously, this game, when it came out, was pretty busted. I remember trying to play online split screen with my buddy and just constantly losing connection. And the online just multiplayer was absolute trash. and
01:19:45
Speaker
But... ah The Halo 2 remake specifically looked so amazing. The fact that none of the Halo games since have looked that good is insane to me because Halo 2's was that remake. Those cut scenes was Holy crap. But also the fact that you could tell it was still the bones of Halo 2 because you could switch switch between the old and new graphics just with the click of a button, which was insane. just Obviously, the Halo trilogy is one of the greatest trilogies ever made. So having those together and then obviously they eventually added four. No, four came out with it immediately. But they eventually added Reach and ODST to the game and stuff too. And
01:20:30
Speaker
this game it has still more of a player base than infinite, even though infinite's great game. I'm not just trying to shit talk it by saying that, but, uh, this, that this one is just so good and so well-renowned that yeah. Halo is just such a great, um,
01:20:45
Speaker
Like the fact that it's even still relevant today, because I think it was just the was it the Chargers who released their schedule with a Halo Machinima? Yes, they did. Machinima.
01:20:56
Speaker
Machinima. And so, yeah, that would that was pretty funny. And but yeah, this Halo is just, yeah, again, one of the best trilogies of all time. Halo 4 is even a good game. It's just not the Bungie games. But yeah, it's I love Halo. So the Halo Master Chief Collection is my number four favorite remake slash remaster of all time.
01:21:16
Speaker
All right. That's also a great pick. um I'm glad they finally got it working. It took them years. yeah they was It was so busted. It was crazy. But yeah, now that it is working, it's an awesome ah collection.
01:21:31
Speaker
Great games. All right. Honorable mention for me. My... Halo is. My number three pick. This is a two for one special. This is two separate games, ah but i want I'm going to mention both together because I didn't want to have two spots taken up by the same franchise. So guess what? You get a two for one special. Enjoy. And that is Yakuza Kiwami 1 and 2. Now, this again, this is this is two different games. You got to buy them separately. All right. Yakuza Kiwami 1 and 2 are both amazing remasters. These games are freaking incredible. They did an amazing, beautiful job with the graphics and the cutscenes completely redone. It looks completely modern and stunning.
01:22:14
Speaker
Of course, you play as the dragon of Dojima. Kazuma Kiryu, the Chad that he is, you're going around Tokyo beating the shit out of people, solving all of this Yakuza drama with the Tojo clan.
01:22:28
Speaker
ah The first one, like he goes to jail for a murder, of course, and then he comes back and there's a conspiracy with like 10 million yen that's gone, 10 billion yen that's gone missing and there's this big drama and he has to solve that and It's awesome, dude. There's all these boss fights and the story twists and turns.
01:22:46
Speaker
And, of course, it's Yakuza. So you got all this crazy stuff, like dudes running around in diapers, like Hodge mentions. And you got people, like, stealing panties. And you just got all this stalker dudes. Just random, stupid side stuff that's funny, like, ah mixed with a crazy story that's, like, super intense and deep.
01:23:04
Speaker
ah You also meet... cause You also meet Kiryu's adopted daughter, Haruka, for the first time in this. He meets her. She's awesome. um She becomes a a more main character, of course, as the story goes on.
01:23:18
Speaker
But yeah, so that's cool. And then in Kiwami 2, which is also a stunning, beautiful game, you know, he's back again a year later, you know. there's but There's another big murder, and he's back. He's got to solve and put together the Tojo clan, and there's new characters and more drama, more fun side hijinks. I love these games. These are two amazing games. Unfortunately for you, Hodge, the third one was not so hot for your fantasy.
01:23:45
Speaker
If you had the first two on your fantasy, you would have had a good score, I'm sure. Well, that's what did because I looked up the first two. i was like, oh, he's got great ratings. I got to take gotta to snag that. And then, yeah, that's the third one comes out as garbage. I'm like, damn it. Not garbage. but Yeah, three was not a very beloved game, unfortunately. But yeah, Yakuza 1 and 2, and of course the remakes are called Kiwami 1 and 2. Amazing games. Highly recommended for anyone who is in the mood for some Yakuza fun. There you go.
01:24:14
Speaker
That's my picks. Yeah. yeah Nice. All righty. Sean, I was thinking. All right. for some Next up for me is a little game called Crash Team Racing Nitro Fueled. This is the remake of the Crash Team Racing on PS1. It also included all basically a remake of Nitro Fueled on the PS2 as well. All Crash Nitro Kart on PS2 as well included all that. Shout out to Small Norm. um i've talked about this game in the past i was among the first people to get the platinum on the playstation um i was also you know ranked in the top 100 in the world in this game on playstation online cause i did the crap out of this game i had over like 500 hours in this game um freaking love this game amazing game um
01:25:00
Speaker
So much better than Mario Kart. So much more skillful. You need to be so much better. Just skilled to to play this game. So, yeah. Crash Team Racing, Nitro Field. Like I said, shout to Small Norm, the best character. The DLC they added in this game was absolutely insane. Like, all the new characters they added, it was, like, all free, too. said I earned it in-game. You could be Spyro. The Spyro map is super fun. i love playing as Hunter. He plays Ripto. Yeah.
01:25:25
Speaker
Everything they added was freaking amazing. Yeah, I freaking love this game. like i I contemplate like booting it up all the time and just you know going on to Reese, but my skills are probably so much worse right now. Yeah, I'm sure only the sweatiest of the sweaties are still playing it. I know, right? This guy, Velo's Toes, that guy was awesome.
01:25:49
Speaker
Sean, you are very good at these games. yeah i know You beat my ass in Mario Kart for sure. This game's even this game is way more skillful than Mario Kart. Yeah, I bet. No, yeah, I agree. i absolutely love this game. I'm a Mario Kart person just because that's what my friends play, but I loved absolutely love Nitro Field. It is ah one of my honorable mentions. ah this This was an absolutely fun game. and Yeah, great choice.
01:26:17
Speaker
All right. Hodge, what's your number three? um It's a game that some people may have heard of, and I may have talked about it on here before, but that would be Resident Evil 2. This is the game that really got me into the Resident Evil world, ah and I was not expecting to not only love this game, but think of it as...
01:26:44
Speaker
like a perfect game. This, it is unbelievable how good this game is. Like, obviously the graphics going from the, the you know, the tank control overview of blocky little zombies that are not scary. I mean, maybe make the nineties was scary, but now it's like, Oh my God, this is looks terrible to these amazing 4k graphics with these realistic as zombies. And,
01:27:05
Speaker
Like just walking down the hallway of the police station with just like, you know, your flashlight and your gun and just basically barely seeing a zombie, like walking out of the darkness towards you. Like, God, like, Holy crap, this is insane. And so,
01:27:20
Speaker
It's just and again, as like I said with you know ah Link's Awakening and Dead Space and stuff, it's one of those games where obviously you eventually move on from the the police station and go elsewhere. But while you're there, it's one of those where you have to collect parts to go to other things like, oh, I can't get into this room. I need to find the key. So you got to find out where the key is and how to get into that room with the key and like It's what I love those types of games where it's like the having to retrace your steps to find parts to get to certain or, you know, items to get to certain areas and stuff. And the so the gameplay tickles my fancy like crazy. The gameplay is amazing. I love that it's um a limited resource type thing, but it's not like so limited that you have to like.
01:28:04
Speaker
constantly avoid conflict kind of thing. And obviously Mr. X constantly walking behind you is always terrifying to when, when you turn a corner and all of a sudden he's there like, Oh oh crap, you got to run the other way. And ah yeah, this game, obviously Resident Evil stories are very hokey. There's anyone who says otherwise is lying to you because they're all really stupid. If you really look at them, cause they are very Japanese games, but yeah,
01:28:33
Speaker
It's just, I, this is the game that got me into resident evil to be like a genuine fan nowadays. Like, i like obviously I bought a requiem was the first resident evil game. I bought day one because the FOMO was going to hit me way too hard. If I did not play that the day they launched and it was so worth it. So now I'm just always ready for resident evil. We've got the movie coming out this year. Cannot wait for that movie. Cause that Craig makes amazing movies and, Yeah, Resident Evil 2, it's just, it's a perfect, it's my game of the year from that year, which was 2019, I believe, with Fallen Order, I think, being a close second in my game of the year from that year. But ah yeah, just perfect. Love this game.
01:29:16
Speaker
So, Resident Evil 2. Great pick, Ash. Great pick. Resident Evil. Resident Evil 2 Remake. People think it's like the greatest game of the franchise ever. Yeah, which i I understand why people love four, but I don't think four holds a candle to two. Like two is just so, so good. But yeah.
01:29:37
Speaker
Okay.

Celebrating Remakes: Mass Effect & Final Fantasy VII

01:29:39
Speaker
Good stuff. All right. I don't have much to say on that because I didn't play it ah other than the original ages ago. So my number two is a better game.
01:29:49
Speaker
It is the greatest, the greatest trilogy of all time. the greatest narrative of all time, for three games anyway, and that is the Mass Effect Legendary Edition. That's right, three masterpiece games, each one better than the last. Mass Effect 1 is a 10 out of 10.
01:30:13
Speaker
Mass Effect 2 is an 11 out of 10. And Mass Effect 3 an 11.69 out of 10. They just keep getting better. It's crazy. The choices that you make in one play their rear their head and show up in three. It's crazy how they do it.
01:30:30
Speaker
No one else does it like Bioware did back then. They were the masters. It's a shame what has happened to them. But ah yeah, everyone who hasn't played Mass Effect, Shame on you.
01:30:42
Speaker
um You suck. I hate you. And you need to play it, Hodge and everyone else. but ah Well, you played the first one. But yeah, Mass Effect Legendary Edition is the greatest... Well, it's the second greatest, I guess, remake, remaster for me. ah We'll see what the first one is. But yeah, this is this is awesome. I absolutely love it. It's the best. I'm actually going to go through and do a replay. I've never actually never...
01:31:05
Speaker
played as fem chef ever uh as much as i've played these games i've always played as male chef every single time and and i always do the d i like women i like playing as male chef though uh so that i can date the women but anyway I always play as the default too with like the shaved head. Like I don't customize my shepherd. It's weird. Sometimes I watch YouTube videos and like dudes have customized their shepherd. I'm like, who is that?
01:31:26
Speaker
That's not a shepherd. um But yeah, but I, one of these days I need to go through and actually do a play through as Fem Shep because some people love Fem Shep and they're like, oh, her voice actress is so good. She's better than the male Shep. And I'm like, nah, you're crazy. But one of these days I'll do a replay with Fem Shep. But anyway, awesome game, the best trilogy ever.
01:31:47
Speaker
I just love it. There you go.
01:31:51
Speaker
It's the best. I mean, i again, i loved the first one. I just, when the second one started, I fell off for something for some reason. It's not that I didn't like it or got bored or anything. I just couldn't keep playing it. And by the time I had time to go back to it, I was like, I'm not going to, I hate taking like a month or two off from a game and hopping back in and being like, what was I doing? Like what, Especially when you're like when you've left because you don't know you're going to leave the game. And so you come back and you're in the middle of a mission and you're like, what am I doing?
01:32:21
Speaker
How shared them how do I shoot? How do I jump? Why am I reloading? Yeah, so I have to redo it. And I kind of want to replay one again because even though wow no yeah even though it's only 20, 18, 20 hours. It wasn't too bad. Let's play two, dude. Two's the best. Go play Android.
01:32:38
Speaker
you yeah If you can replay one, I'm going to get to two. We know how you are. Just play two. That's true. um But at least I can load the saves of my first one. Yeah, it kind of recaps the stuff at the start of the game. Oh, that's right. It does. Yeah, I'll do that. I'll watch my recap. That makes sense. But ah yeah, I just phenomenal choice. I can't wait to one day get to two and three, but the first one was so good and I know that they only get better from there. So, oh, so much better even believe it or not. Yeah. Yeah. Great choice.
01:33:08
Speaker
All right, Sean. Number two. All right. My number two is crash bandicoot. The insane trilogy. This is a remake of the original crash bandicoot games. The original trilogy. Um,
01:33:23
Speaker
For those who've listened to this podcast for a while know how much I love Crash Bandicoot. It is among my favorite franchises of all time. These games are unbelievable, outstanding. And it paved the way for one of my favorite games of all time, Crash 4.
01:33:36
Speaker
This brought Crash back. It it made him relevant again. um they took and They had all the polish of the original games and it looked unbelievable. I still think these games look better than the PS1 games. I know some people don't don't don't buy that. I think it does.
01:33:53
Speaker
um it had all the difficulty of the because people forget how difficult some of these crash games were um crash one super fun game crash two even better crash three three good not as good not as good as the other ones but i've replayed these games over and over again so many times i have so many countless memories of them from when i was a kid and i was immediately brought back when this game was released in 2017 i couldn't believe it it was actually happening um Three best Crash games. Then they added a couple levels in with some future updates, free updates. They released a unreleased level from Crash 1 that was cut, and then they released a Crash Bandicoot warped level, like one of the future levels they re-added in. Super fun. They added in the ability to play as Coco on any level. It just made the game so accessible and so much fun. It was all in one disc. I have a Platinum in all three of them. um I 100% of them on Xbox and 100% them on Switch. Super great games. Awesome platformers. Crash, and Insane Trilogy.
01:34:56
Speaker
Yeah. All right. Double Crash, back to back, like Drake. uh hot you got any any crash thoughts and then uh you're up with your next pick uh no i mean we've talked about it i i love these i thought these games were impossibly hard as a kid and i think they're doubly hard as an adult so uh but well all right master gamer over here i play games on journalism mode um but yeah no these games are awesome they're just so unapologetically 90s also that they just they bring me back to being a kid like whenever I see them even though I wasn't like again I was just you know Spyro kid but I loved Crash 2 it was one of those games that I would rent I remember from the video store we would always rent a Crash game I never owned them but we rented them all the time and yeah they're phenomenal games and obviously when this this trilogy came out it was a huge deal but
01:35:49
Speaker
Unlike Spyro, they actually decided to continue making these games. And so the people are lucky for that. But my number two.
01:36:00
Speaker
is a it's kind of a cheating in the same as you'd how you did yakuza 1 and 2 but it did come out as its own collection eventually and that is kingdom hearts 1.5 and 2.5 uh obviously kingdom hearts and kingdom hearts 2 are two of my favorite games of all time i absolutely love this series even though it makes absolutely no sense no matter what you say sean It's an absolute nonsense series, but I absolutely love it. Again, as people know, I you know i got a Keyblade tattooed to my arm. I got a Keyblade up on my wall. Got a Kingdom Hearts thing right here.
01:36:35
Speaker
So he's a bigger fan than you, Sean. Yeah, exactly. how As you can see. yeah Yeah, just don't ask me what the game's about, because I don't know. ah But I just...
01:36:46
Speaker
Adore these games. And when these collections came out, oh, and I got my heartless right there also, which came with the 2.5 collection, special edition. Yeah, absolutely, absolutely love these games. And so when they came out as collections, I owned them on my PlayStation. I think I bought them twice on PlayStation by accident I bought them individually. And then I think I bought the all-in-one collection, which is just the games again. I think I accidentally them. twice but cheap uh and then obviously i beat it on xbox too because it was awesome when they came to xbox but yeah kingdom hearts i don't know how many times i played one as a kid over and over just restarting and replaying that game because it's i mean it's like a 20 25 hour game but i'm at the point where i could beat it in 10 just because it's i've played it so many times that i love these but i love these games so yeah kingdom hearts 1.5 and 2.5
01:37:39
Speaker
All right. Great pick. I love those games. I remember I played them like five times. No, I never played them. i so I keep telling Chris, Australian Chris, that that if they remake these games.
01:37:53
Speaker
They're not going to. That was shot down. They're not remaking. can mind well they They don't like money? Okay, gotcha. Because those would print money. if they It would be nice if they remade them just to make Jump X instead of Circle. No, I like it Circle. I like it Circle.
01:38:09
Speaker
Okay, well whatever you're used to. all right yeah I'm used to it at this point. like I don't get confused by it. It's just a dumb, dumb choice. I have a sneaking suspicion that all of us might have the same number one, but I'm up next. so I know what Hodges' number one is. my number well
01:38:28
Speaker
My number one pick... is Final Fantasy VII Remake slash Rebirth. Again, this is kind of a two-for-one special. If I have to pick one, and Rebirth is better.
01:38:39
Speaker
course, it's the better of the two games, but I'm putting them both together. um I just think it's it's preferable to give you two games ah rather than take up two spots with the same damn series, right? You don't need me to talk about Yakuza in two spots. I'm just gonna give you two games in one spot and be blessed that you have two games. But yeah, I mean, this is a continuation. On this one, it's it's literally a continuation of the same game. Like, they split it up. So, remake and rebirth.
01:39:04
Speaker
It is the remake of Final Fantasy VII. And what an amazing game this is. Beautiful, insanely great graphics. I love the combat style in this game. I really love the action combat, but how you can, like, pause it and, like, issue commands at the same time. I think this is peak...
01:39:22
Speaker
combat for Final Fantasy. I think this is what they should do going forward. It's like the perfect mend between people who want to do action combat, but also like the turn-based people. You want to have some turn-based? Well, you can pause and issue your commands. It's cool. I think it's kind of like something for everyone.
01:39:38
Speaker
It's great. The combat is super fun. The characters are incredible. Cloud is ah is a freaking Chad, right? With his big ass sword. All stoic out there, just being a Chad. ah Of course, Aerith is the best girl, but the waifu.
01:39:52
Speaker
ah Tifa, everyone loves Tifa. Yuffie, my beloved. i love Yuffie. She has the best combat with that air juggling and all of her abilities, how you could go through and just stun them and butt bust them up. It was great. ah My boy Barrett with his arm, bust shooting him up. In the first game, I was using Barrett a lot, just lighting him up with the machine gun on his arm. And then you'd hit a triangle or whatever and pop, pop, pop, you know, hit him with the big burst attacks. super fun dude all of the characters are awesome you got the dog red thirteen everyone's awesome dude this game is awesome i fucking love it even the mini games you know the the mini games were fun um i just i love this game i cannot wait for part three it's going to be day one for me uh we did spoiler cast for this uh did we do for both games i know we did for rebirth we did do we do both
01:40:40
Speaker
I don't know if we did remake. We did OG in Rebirth. don't know we did remake. oh maybe we didn i don't know all ah yeah I'm just going to hop on this. This is my number one as well. yeah These are amazing games. Hodge, is this your number one?
01:40:54
Speaker
no wow these are legitimately remakes um they completely completely new games i freaking love all of them i don't know what more i can say about how much i love these games final fantasy is my favorite series of all time this is a remake of my favorite game of all time this one of the two i love it cannot wait for part three it's gonna be amazing let's go shout out to cloud my boy shout out to yuffie where's my card I just haven't gotten around getting it shipped.
01:41:23
Speaker
How dare you not send me free stuff? God. It's fine. It's fine. It's all a good, man. I'm just giving you a hard time. You don't owe me anything, of course. um Yeah, I love these games. I know you love these games. and Why is this not on your list at all, Hajj? Did you forget? Because I consider them a sequel, not a remake.
01:41:42
Speaker
I do too, but remakes the title, so... Yeah, no, I, it wasn't my honorable mention, but again, i it's just that, that caveat that I gave myself, like, obviously I'd love these games. They're amazing, incredible, incredible but I'm just in the realm. I'm just in the realm of their sequels, not remakes, but, uh, no, yeah, these games, obviously these, this was our unanimous game of the year back in 2023. 4. And yeah, re remake is amazing. i did not expect them to be able to make Midgar a 40-hour game, but they did. it's
01:42:17
Speaker
It's a two-hour section in ah in a very short PlayStation game, comparatively. um But they made it on an amazing part one. And then Rebirth was even better. Every single world. I never felt like it was dragging when I'm doing every single collectible in every single open world. ah Yeah. Playing as every character. Again, yes, I know me and Midnight are on the same page of playing as Yuffie is so much fun. um obviously play as Cloud and everyone else is great too, but they're all awesome. Hopefully part three, we can actually play as Vincent Valentine. That'd be wonderful. You'll be able to.
01:42:54
Speaker
Yeah, because obviously it was the same with Red. You couldn't be able you couldn't play as rule yeah you couldn't play as Red in part one, but you couldn't too. But yeah, phenomenal, phenomenal games. But yeah, again, I just didn't do it because i think they're re or s sequels, not remakes. But that was just literally the only reason I did not include these on my list. Because otherwise, yes, they 1000% would have because they're so good.
01:43:17
Speaker
But my number one is a game we discussed earlier, and that is Spyro Reignited Trilogy. Obviously. Yeah, i it's not only is um Ripto's Rage one of my favorite games of all time. I think it's pretty sure it's in my top three. um Not only is that just, but the it is one of the best remasters of a game I've ever played. Like it went from very blocky PS1 graphics that, you know, are obviously of their time, but I love how they look because I love that era.
01:43:50
Speaker
to like a genuinely amazing looking game. Like the graphics are so good in this game. They redid all the music, of course, just like, and you know, they did that in Final Fantasy two. They made it orchestrated instead of that old school PS one kind of 64 bit or whatever music is, whatever that's called. Um,
01:44:10
Speaker
But yeah, I, again, my only complaint of these games is that they don't have a 60 FPS patch right now, which it just at 30, it doesn't play bad at 30. It's just, you can tell, well especially in a platformer when you're trying to be very precise about every step you make when you only have 30 FPS, it's a little choppy at times, but no, i just, again, i love, love these games so much that they were, it was when they announced this, I remember absolutely losing my shit when this trailer was dropped. I was like, Are you kidding me? My favorite games of all time were getting a remaster and it did not disappoint at all. ah It's just, it's, it's what, again, like how i had Alan Wake at 10 because I just didn't consider it a good remaster. I thought, obviously I love these games, but also it was a perfect remaster. It was so well done. It was perfectly done. Toys for Bob. It's a sin that they're not making a Spyro for. It's about time kind of game. i would kill for that because,
01:45:08
Speaker
Every other Spire game after these is basically garbage. So I would i would kill for like a legitimate Spiro 4, like how we got to crash for. But for now, I have this trilogy, which is absolutely perfect in my eyes. so other than, yeah yes. so What are they making instead? Fucking shit? Call of Duty maps or something? like Well, Microsoft got rid of Toys Rava. They're an indie studio. Oh, did they? Oh, okay.
01:45:34
Speaker
yeah Yeah. So I don't know what they're they said they're going to continue to work with Microsoft. And I mean, who knows what the lady like apparently in about a week that girl has done more than Phil ever did in his however many years at CEO. So my days of defending Phil saying it's not his fault are completely over because obviously that man dropped the ball more times than.
01:45:54
Speaker
someone bad on a football team that I can't think of right now. Um, so it could, was trying to think a really quickly think of a receiver who dropped the ball all the time, but I don't know, but yeah, I have nothing to defend Phil with anymore. Cause I think she's doing a very good job so far. So,
01:46:11
Speaker
I mean, it just a really super quick sidebar because this is a real... I think Phil did a great job in his first five or six years, but like 2013, 2018, 2019. But then then things started to really fall off. Yeah, he definitely started... He he put out the fire of Don Matrick, but the structural damage was already there and there was no... And then so then he did a good job of acquiring a bunch of great studios yeah like Obsidian and InXile and stuff. And then he started Game Pass, which was cool, I guess. and yeah But anyway, that's not that's not the topic here. Yeah, but so hopefully... Hopefully Toys for Bob can come back and do another Spyro game that would make me the happiest, happiest man in the world. But who knows?
01:46:50
Speaker
But yeah, for now, Spyro Reignite Trilogy is my favorite remaster of all time. Maybe Sean's making it right now. Sean, you're doing that? I'm doing it right now. He's making that and Sleeping Dogs at the same time. Yep.
01:47:03

You guys want to do that? Hodge, you got some final thoughts for this episode?
01:49:14
Speaker
Oh, wait. Honorable mentions. I'm sorry. Hodge, you have any honorable mentions for I have a lot of honorable mentions. Uh, I have a death stranding ultimate edition. i didn't do, I didn't do this one and goes the Shishima director's cut. Cause didn't really include director's cuts. Cause those are usually more of, it's just the same game, but with more shit in there, but these were technically ported up to the next console, but I didn't include them for that reason. Cause it was more of ports and direct or like ultimate additions or whatever. So, But i had those Pokemon Fire Red was a phenomenal remake of obviously old school red and blue. Spider-Man Remastered, Silent Hill 2, Final Fantasy 7 Crisis Core Reunion, Star Wars Episode One Racer, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 and 2, and then Crash Team Racing Nitro Fueled. And obviously Link's Awakening because I completely forgot to put that on my list. So yeah, those are my honorable mentions.
01:50:10
Speaker
right, let me hit you with a couple of mine. So I had Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion remaster. I still want to play this. I mean, that it looks incredible. The graphics and everything looks insane. The only reason why I haven't played it is because of time, for one, and also, too, because people have complained about bugs and stuff. So I've been a little hesitant, but it looks crazy good. Ghost of Tsushima Director's Cut, I'm going to put here as an honorable mention. it's It's basically just a port, but I mean, they did add, you know, functionality, of course, for the DualSense and the graphics are a little better. And they added the Iki Island, which is cool, DLC. And then XCOM Enemy Unknown. This is not necessarily a remake of XCOM UFO Defense from 1994, but it's kind of like a reimagining. So there you go.
01:50:52
Speaker
um Sean, honorable mentions for you? SpongeBob battlefield be a Bikini Bottom Rehydrated. um That is an honorable mention for me. And Halo Campaign Evolved because from the future and I've already played it.
01:51:06
Speaker
No, was was it good? um Yes. All right, sweet. Did you get all the skulls or whatever? Yes, I did. No, they were played instead of skulls, they have a bones.
01:51:18
Speaker
Okay, gotcha. You have to collect an entire skeleton. All right. Well, let's go around and give our final thoughts for this episode. Hodge, what are your final thoughts for episode 64, sir?
01:51:31
Speaker
This was a lot of fun. I love talking, obviously, video games with you boys, but I love how many amazing games have been remastered and how many remasters are still coming out this year. There's a lot of remasters, which is what made me think of it. I'm like, there's like eight remasters. remaster games coming out this year. So, but yeah, love doing this podcast with you guys and love talking video games. So.
01:51:55
Speaker
oh Yeah. yeah Sean, final thoughts? and You didn't have any Tales remakes, like Tales of Zillia was under there. I didn't do remasters. Oh, right, right. That's true. that's true okay i didnt remis um No, great episode. I really enjoy this. I love when games are remade and they're completely like redone. It's super cool to see what the devs do. So yeah, great great list, everyone. um Can't wait to see what the audience thinks.
01:52:20
Speaker
