Introduction and Hosts' Background

00:00:39
Speaker
And welcome everybody. This is games over plastic episode number 71. I am midnight as always joined by my two lovely and amazing co-hosts.
00:00:51
Speaker
First of all, we have the man who's on love island Sean Mason. How you doing, sir? Yo, what's up, guys? We're here on Love Island. I'm here to meet the love of my life. i got my sweatband on, which I wear 24-7. I want to meet a girl who wears a sweatband just like me. What's up?
00:01:09
Speaker
Nice, nice. And then last but not least, the master of graphics and editing and plasma donation, Hodge. How you doing, sir? I'm doing good. I was super sick this week, but I'm feeling way better. I literally had to call in sick two days in a row because I couldn't get off my couch. It was terrible, but I'm feeling better now. I thought you were going to reference that Sean looks like Michael Cera in Juno.
00:01:33
Speaker
that's what i That's what I first thought when I saw ah when i saw the headband. There's the reason i'm wearing it. there's There's a reason I'm wearing it. Because you're a fan of LeBron going to the 76ers? He hasn't worn a sweatband since 2015. No, I don't know. I don't want to. Yeah, he got his hairline fixed. No, it has to do with one of the games I'm playing.
00:01:52
Speaker
Okay. Well, I can't wait to hear about it. um All right. So you're donating sick plasma, huh? Well, I'm healthy now.
00:02:02
Speaker
yeah I'm just donating a T-Virus. He's trying to make Resident Evil a thing. He is. I'm just really excited for the movie coming out. He's trying to get Leon Kennedy to come to Iowa. Yeah. I need an RE game set in Iowa, and this is how I'm going to get it done.
00:02:16
Speaker
There you go, man. That'd be cool. We need a game

Fantasy Game Picks and Scores

00:03:06
Speaker
Pause the show. Think of a write in.
00:03:08
Speaker
Leave it. Okay. Pause. Resume. All right. So that's enough shilling, I suppose, to in this episode. It's going to an easy, fun one. We're just going talking about games and what we're playing. But first, we're going to have a fantasy update because there's been some new games that have come out. As you guys know, we had our fantasy picks. And the master of fantasy, the one and only Hodge,
00:03:31
Speaker
Give us an update if you will, sir. Yeah, so I'm not going to name every game that we drafted, but if you're watching this on YouTube, which you should be, you'll see the graphics off to the side of all of our games. But we've had, yeah, so we're halfway through the year, a little over halfway through the year, and we have a lot of games out so far.
00:03:47
Speaker
I think all three of us, no, never mind, Midnight doesn't have any games delayed until next year except for his safety picks. But... Me and Sean both have ah delays into next year and mine helped him. Sean's did not. But right now it's a very, very, very close game with us all being in the 82s.
00:04:05
Speaker
But obviously different areas. First and third place will go with me at 82.0. I got Soros at 87, Pragmat at 86, Crimson Desert 79, Yakuza Kiwami 3 74, Replace 77, Criminally Low. And then since Out of Words is delayed until next year, have Pokemon Pocopia, which I kind of meme drafted, but it's an 89 and it's my highest scoring game. So actually, I kind of want to play this one. Maybe one day I'll get around to it. It's a lot of fun. I mean, it's very interesting. I didn't get the Pocopia fix that so many people did get. Some people were super hard into it, but it is a fun game.
00:04:46
Speaker
Yeah, it it looks it looks like one of those really cozy games that I could just hop into and waste a bunch of time in. I will say this. My sister put like $100 the span of a couple weeks into it. yeah Wow. yeah Nice. I feel like also Crimson Desert at a 79 is criminally low because everyone everyone that I know who played the game, like including Locke and other people in Discord, were like, this is game of the year. This game's fucking awesome. Like everyone loved it that I heard that played it. But 79 seems a bit low for game of the year talk, you know? Wow.
00:05:17
Speaker
That's crazy. Yeah, I heard it was, I mean, all I saw was the critics in that kind of middling review, so i just assumed it was fairly mid, but that's crazy. I heard it sucked. Locke and Corey and several other people were like, oh, this game's fucking amazing. They were posting screenshots and videos and shit.
00:05:34
Speaker
Nice. Yeah. Yeah. And then ah in second place at 82.4 is Sean with Adventures of Elliot, the Millennium Tales at 80, Neo 385, Lego Batman Legacy, the Dark Knight 84. Tomb Raider Legacy Atlantis was delayed in 27 into 2027. And I guess the other one was delayed into 2028 because of it.
00:05:53
Speaker
um Scott Pilgrim EX has an 80. Mina the Hollower at an amazing 91. And then lifted. Right now, I guess, Midnight said there's not many scores, so he averaged out the ones that were there, and it came out to be an 83.
00:06:06
Speaker
And then MLB The Show 26 has Sean's safety pick, has a 74, which not great. But i think that brings down your โ€“ that counteracts your Mina score. It's all right, because we all know Gigi is getting a 100, so โ€“ I mean, I at this point, I'd be shocked if it has under a 95 with kind of what we've seen from it. And that comes from someone who's not a GTA fan. So I would not not be surprised if it's anything. I would not. I'll be genuinely shocked if it's under 92, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's over 95.
00:06:36
Speaker
Hodge, don't worry. Ace Combat 8 is going to get a 100, too. Yeah, that's true. just need that to get at least like an 80, but I'm sure it's a 75. I think it's guaranteed. Pretty much guaranteed GTA is at least a 95.
00:06:51
Speaker
if it' Unless it comes out and it's completely like just broken. But they're not. Rockstar was not going to happen. That's not going to Yeah. I wouldn't do that. There's so much time and money. that'd be fair Red Dead 2 did come out glitchy. So who knows? Did it? I don't remember.
00:07:05
Speaker
Well, that's why I quit because my game kept crashing. This is GTA. This isn't Red Dead. This is. gta I mean, that is true. They definitely do put more love into GTA than they do Red Dead for sure. But and then in first place at 82.9 on the cusp of that 83 is midnight with Forza 6 at 91. Halo campaign evolved so far at 83. I know it's obviously not out yet, but the reviews are coming in.
00:07:29
Speaker
Dragon Quest 7 reimagined 83 Resident Evil Requiem, which means Sean both saw it in the 70s instead of 89. Super Meat Boy 3D surprisingly only at 76. I didn't. thought that was going be a good one. Yeah, me too. Legend Heroes Trails Beyond the Horizon, 83. Monster Hunter Stories, 385. Also kind of, I always thought those games scored really high, but. Art Knights Enfield, 79. And then Sense, nothing's delayed so far, but you have Star Sand Island at 77.
00:07:58
Speaker
Actually, that shouldn't even be in your average right now because you don't have anything delayed. um Is it in my average? Yeah, right now it is. So boom. You're actually winning at 83.6 because that shouldn't be in your average right now.
00:08:12
Speaker
ah ze So yeah, Sean has MLB in his average, doesn't he? Because he has delay. I have to. have to have it on my average. Oh, he has to. Yeah, you don't have anything delayed till next year, so you don't get your bonuses yet.
00:08:23
Speaker
okay and both Me and him both have a delayed game. which why I'm a bit worried about No Rest for the Wicked because it's already on Open Critic at like a 73, but that was for early access. Like they reviewed early access for some reason. I don't get it. So what's going to happen when the game really launches? The score is going to be like, i don't even know. I don't know what's going to happen. That's fucked. Yeah, I know. That that was a confusing one because i was looking it up. I'm like, this has a score, but it's not. ah i don't know what's going on. But, yeah. So you're actually winning at 83.6. You're winning by a full point and a half, basically, right now. so Sweet. Yeah. We've got a lot of year to go.
00:08:56
Speaker
Yep. lot of year left to go. I got to update the LSM one. I updated it in like four months. I need to do that for them. And ILP. I do both of their fantasies. I got to update theirs. Update it, man. This weekend. ah Yeah, the Halo score and the lifted score are very much subject to change because they just came out. So like literally one or two new scores could change.
00:09:16
Speaker
shaking a lot like lifted literally had three scores so if a fourth one comes in that could change dramatically you know yeah and from what i've heard about halo i won't be surprised if that score goes down not up because not hearing great things which sucks because halo which i mean i don't really care because i have master chief collection so i have halo one i don't need campaign so i'm not really that worried but yeah uh it sucks for them though my uh my dad's actually playing it right um it's gonna be playing it oh i I turned on my Xbox yesterday to play some games and that did the Xbox like banner ad thing. When you log in, it's like update to premium to play now. I'm like, no, skip. I'm not updating or upgrading to play three days early, four days early, whatever it is. Nah, I'm going to wait.
00:10:04
Speaker
Play that baby on Game Pass. But um yeah, so right now, midnight shown than me. All right. Good stuff. Some good scores, some good games. I wish I didn't pick no rest for the wicked because I don't know what we're going score. I guess I'm probably just going to get fucked since it already has scores in there for some reason.
00:10:22
Speaker
yeah Maybe they'll make a new entry for it. I don't know. We'll see. Yeah. I mean, it also, maybe they'll update the scores, remove the, The early access scores, who knows? Who knows how it'll work? I guess we'll find out if it comes out in October. Yeah.
00:10:36
Speaker
All right.

Nickelodeon Tennis Review

00:10:37
Speaker
Good stuff. Good stuff, Hodge. Thanks for your hard work, sir. Good stuff. All three of us, very competitive. Nobody's running away with it, really. So this is still anyone's ballgame, and that's good.
00:10:49
Speaker
Because a lot of times you look at some of these other ones, and like you got some people running away with things. So, yeah, it's also not. I like that we did three safety picks because that makes it a little more exciting, too, because no one's eaten at zero all the time to like really. Because I think that's is not what happened to Sean last year. You got. Yeah. Because you drafted GTA and it absolutely tanked to score. So, yeah, I like that we do the the safeties.
00:11:11
Speaker
and makes yeah And then my dumb ass picked two games of safeties that had almost no chance of coming out. I'm like, good job, dude. Hey, I wish Glockwerk was coming out this year. I'm so excited for that game. It looks so good. I'm just happy they gave it to you, though.
00:11:29
Speaker
All right, boys. So what we're going to be doing for this episode is we are just going to be touching on what we've been playing. This is our gaming wrap up. We actually have not done this in three months, believe it or not. It was ah I looked it up. It was like April 30th or something like that. i don't know.
00:11:44
Speaker
May 30th. I forget. It's been three months anyway. So we've been playing some games. And who wants to start it off here? Sean has his camera off. So I'll start it off. No, I'll start. I'll start. It's fine. Give us one game, Sean. What have you been playing? All right, so we'll start I'll start with a game that I have been playing that I talked about last time, but Nickelodeon Tennis, hence the sweatband, because ah I've been playing as Spongebob in Nickelodeon Tennis, and he wears a sweatband, so you know I decided to win one. It is wrecked, too. Nickelodeon Tennis, like I said, it is better than any... ah
00:12:21
Speaker
Mario Tennis game out there. It's super fun because they have like a chat. like There's like a kind of like a campaign mode. And during the campaign, you take on...
00:12:33
Speaker
like various challengers. And once you, you have to you have to basically, you get you get like, you get like stars every time you beat them. So like one star is if you just beat them two stars, like you have to, it's like, if you do something else, three stars, if you do like all three of the challenges they give you. So like one challenge would be like, um get like three aces during the game, which an ace in tennis is when you serve it and they just don't serve it that and they just don't hit it back. Um, it's super fun. Um, each, each character has like a special power up move to like, you know, they, that they take like something from like the show. So for example, SpongeBob, I hope blow bubbles and like, there'll be like a various tennis balls trapped in bubbles when you like serve it over there. Um,
00:13:18
Speaker
A cat dog gets like a giant like ball of yarn and like hits that. There's stuff like that. it It is a fun game. There's a lot of characters too. um Some weird characters like Grandma Gertie's in it from ah Hey Arnold. it's Very strange. um Yeah, she kind of sucks. Not gonna lie. She's old. Yeah. um um Jenny from ah My Teenage Robot is in it.
00:13:45
Speaker
XJ9. Hi, you remember that show? i I remember it, but it was like at the tail end of my Nickelodeon watching age. So i I think my younger brother watched it, which is how I saw glimpses of it. But I was never really, a ah I never really watched it.
00:14:02
Speaker
Though, the the you know what I find really weird? There's two characters from Chalk Zone in the game. Dude, Chalkstone was awesome. So love good so you can play as Rudy and you can play as Snap, like the blue little superhero. blue yeah um And it is interesting. but um So I just unlocked, so you you only have singles, but I unlocked doubles mode. And in doubles mode, you can play with any, you can like pair up any Nickelodeon characters. So I've been playing with Gerald from Hey Arnold SpongeBob. So that's my that's my dynamic duo right there, Gerald and SpongeBob.
00:14:36
Speaker
Dude, Gerald's the man. Yeah. It's a fun game. and All the stages, you know, they're based off of, like, various Nickelodeon, you know, locations. Like, you can play tennis inside the Krusty Krab, which is kind of cool. PS-118, you can play tennis in PS-118 from ah Hey Arnold's.
00:14:54
Speaker
Sandy's Tree Dome, Chalk Zone inside like the chalk Chalk area, Timmy Turner's house from Fairly Odd Parents. Yeah. The Fairy World as well. Remember in Jimmy Neutron, like the 60s style diner?
00:15:12
Speaker
ah Yeah, yeah. Yeah, you can play in there too. oh It's a fun game. It's it's pretty fun. Yeah. it's it it I will say, like I said, it plays a lot better than any Mario Tennis game.
00:15:23
Speaker
i Yeah, I feel like I would enjoy it, not from the gameplay perspective, but from just, like, the the member bearers. Like, ooh, look at that! Ooh, look at that! Ooh, look at that! Kind of thing. They do a really good they do ah a really good job with just, like, throwing things in that, like...
00:15:39
Speaker
like that allude to just various shows. And like, there's like random things like from like random episodes. Like they'll have like, like i it's like, Oh my God, that's so cool. Just like, it is fun. It's a good time. And you can, ah you can play as Michelangelo as well.
00:15:54
Speaker
He's in there. The painter or the turtle. Both. Nice. Yeah. Oh, and real quick, if you like physical games, it is going to be released physically on August 1st. I don't like physical games. so Yeah.
00:16:10
Speaker
You like to get physical. That's why. Yeah. got of Can't get physical with Nicktoons. Well, you know, you're not attracted to Helga Pataki. ah Yeah, I am actually. the you I don't know that is. oh look you up Go look her up.
00:16:26
Speaker
Helga Pataki? It's the bully girl from Hey Arnold. It's Midnight's girlfriend, Helga Pataki. Oh yeah, with the crazy hair? yeah Yeah. Sure, man. No. um yeah Shout out to the physical bros, though. Fighting the good fight on a PlayStation. side Yeah. yeah All right. Nick Tennis. Good stuff, Sean. Good stuff.
00:16:47
Speaker
Oh, yeah. um Sounds fun. Sounds fun. You know, I haven't seen virtually any of those shows. I don't think I'm a bit too old. But ah ah this one i know there's one show I know you definitely see. It's Garfield because Garfield is in the game. Oh, yeah. yeah garfield Garfield and friends. did it do do Garfield and friends. I've actually never seen Garfield.
00:17:05
Speaker
Oh, I love, dude, I love Garfield. It's so funny. That's like the one show midnight scene. It's the one show I've not seen. That's in the game. Garfield. Oh man. i gart Garfield, Calvin and Hobbes and Peanuts were three comics I read religiously growing up. Oh, Peanuts was great. i yeah Does anyone remember? i don't know. Hold on. You might remember. Midnight. You actually remember. Do remember like, this might've just been a new one thing. I don't know. There used to be like a duck that used to like tell the weather in the newspaper.
00:17:31
Speaker
i don't I don't remember that. I remember this. A duck that tells the weather? and my neighbor were like obsessed with it. I don't know. That might have just been like a New England england thing. I can't remember. It sounds familiar, though. I remember a groundhog that tells the weather, but not a duck.
00:17:47
Speaker
That was a good one. There you go. Yep. All right. Good stuff. Good stuff. um All right. I'll go next. I'll tell you guys about a game I've been playing that I played and it's dispatch. This game was awesome. I really love and recommend this game. This game

Dispatch Game Review

00:18:03
Speaker
is a lot of fun.
00:18:04
Speaker
It has an awesome story, sorry amazing voice acting, a lot of choice and consequence. You make a bunch of choices. It's kind of like a Telltale type game sort of where, you know, you got it's it's very narrative focused, lot of cut scenes and stuff. And then you're making choices. There's some quick time events, too.
00:18:20
Speaker
And, you know, based on your choices, you know, some people might live, some people might die. The ending is going to differ. So I actually played it twice. um There's also two different romantic interests and they're both awesome. So I had to play it two times so that I could bang both of them. And then I could see. Hey, yo.
00:18:37
Speaker
I could see which one's better because Meatball had this thing. He's like, oh, ah you know, there's no way that my girl's not the best girl. And I was like, yeah, sorry, man. i actually like Me and Sensei like the other one a little bit better.
00:18:50
Speaker
So the there's invisil Invisigal, who's voiced by Laura Bailey. So great voice actress. And she is she's the best. But then there's also ah The other girl, Blonde something. I can't remember her name for some reason. It's been a couple months since I played this. I'm looking at the cast right now. This cast is pretty wild. that the main character, Aaron Paul? Yeah, Aaron Paul. And he's amazing. yeah oh his voice His voice acting's great.
00:19:17
Speaker
Dude, a lot of pierces in this game. And she, even though I'm not like a massive fan of her content, she does a great job with the voice acting, too. Her character's good. And there's some rappers in here. um Moist, Rappist.
00:19:32
Speaker
Yeah, and I'm not really a fan of some of these people, but they did a good job with the voice acting. Like, i I played it for the story, for the game, and it was great. All the voice acting was good. Very very likable and on point. um So, like, it's basically the game is, it's it's very short. This is a very Hodge-type beatable game. i I beat it twice. You can beat the game in, like, five hours, five, six hours, maybe. It's got, like, six chapters. They're, like, an hour each, whatever. um So, like...
00:19:57
Speaker
Half of the game or 60% of the game is like cut scenes and and choices and consequence in the story. And then the other half is the dispatch mode, which is pretty fun, where you're like sitting at a computer and these crimes are happening and you have to dispatch the correct hero to the crime. Because like maybe they have skills like it's a fire, so you want to dispatch your water guy, you know what i mean, or something like that. um And if they successfully clear the crime, like then they get skill points and they rank up, and then you can make them better so that you can have better chance of succeeding. It's actually quite addicting and fun, the dispatch is. So like that gameplay is pretty fun, too. It's like 40% of the game is the dispatch mode, and then 60% is just a really good story with really honestly grounded and likable characters. Blonde Blazer is the other one.
00:20:43
Speaker
Dude, all the voice acting is is incredible. it really is. like not There's not a single character that didn't sound great. um And I highly... I can't recommend this game enough. I think it's super fun, and I think almost anyone will like it. If you have any like preconceived notions, like, I don't like Moist Critical, or I don't like Alana Pierce, just put that shit aside. like just play It's a video game. you just play the they just They just made a voice, okay? i played the game I love the art. love it Like, the art of this game, like the art style.
00:21:10
Speaker
that looks really good. Yeah. Yeah, I'm telling you, man, the characters are so likable um that you'll actually you'll actually care a lot. Like when there's high stakes and someone might die, like you you feel invested.
00:21:21
Speaker
um So it's cool. I highly recommend Dispatch for everyone. What did you play it on? I played it on ah PC, I think. Okay. I don't remember. What did I? Maybe it was PlayStation. I don't fucking remember.
00:21:36
Speaker
Why are you asking me hard questions, Sean? That's not a hard question. Let me look. Hold on. I'm on my backlog here. How many fingers do you have? Windows PC. Windows PC. I played it on. Yeah. I had it on Steam. But it's on everything, I'm sure.
00:21:49
Speaker
You can play it on a PlayStation. and This seems like a game like me and Claire would play together. Oh, totally, dude. You guys make the choices together. Yeah. And you can see who see who lives, who dies. um I think Hodge would like this game a lot. I know Hodge said in the past, like he saw the trailer and he was kind of put off by a the the the humor. But I'm telling you, if you actually play the game ah more than just watching a one minute clip, like you get to know the characters and you'll you'll you'll like their their their humor. Yeah. The whole game is not just them swearing and being stupid.
00:22:19
Speaker
Yeah, I'll look into if it's ever on sale or like a Games of Gold or added to PlayStation Plus or whatever, just because, yeah, the Quirk Chungus in the trailer really turned me off. But I've i've heard chcu I've heard a lot of people say how good it is. So I'll keep an eye on it. I'm not going to rush out and play it, but I'll definitely keep an eye on it.
00:22:40
Speaker
It's a lot of fun, and it's it's it's an episodic game. So it's one of those games where, like, you can sit down and just, I'm just going to play episode two tonight, you know? Yeah. youve Finish episode two. It does the thing where it gives you the stats where, like, you know, like, you and 76% of the world save this person or blah, blah, blah. That's kind of fun looking at comparing that stuff. You know, stats are fun.
00:22:57
Speaker
Yeah. um So, yeah, it's very it's very digestible, like I said. You know, the episode two will clearly end, and then you can be like, all right, to get off for the night. Or if you really want to, you can start episode three, you know?
00:23:09
Speaker
Yeah. Midnight, I got a game recommendation for you since since you just played this game. Yeah. It has choice and dialogue and you know what game it is? Goodbye Volcano High.
00:23:23
Speaker
That's that one with the weird dinosaur. I played it. I liked it. Is it actually good? It's not bad. It's it's interesting. Let me look it up on Steam. Steam is the only platform that matters, as I've said.
00:23:37
Speaker
No reviews matters other than Steam. in my opinion. I'm sure Hollywood would love it too. Because the Steam reviews are only people who have played the game. Let's see. ah So it's very positive. 89 on Steam.
00:23:49
Speaker
So yeah, people actually do like this game. So that's cool. I don't trust anything that has human-animal hybrids being rated on the internet. That's true. That's true. You could have some weird furries who are giving a 10 just because they're weird furries. Goodbye, Volcano High.
00:24:06
Speaker
Sean, I'll consider this one day, but it's going to be low on the list. I'll give you my gift to one Christmas. Oh, God. Oh, thanks, man. yeah turn our are ah We're going have to get rid of Secret Santa because it's going to turn from games that we think you'd like to games I'm going to force you to play. but Oh, I'm not playing this on it says LGBTQ plus on it. Oh, I mean, there's this is like two characters.
00:24:30
Speaker
Nope, not playing it. Sorry, but thank you. yeah I'm just kidding. Who knows? Maybe one day. We'll see. But it like I said, it's at the bottom of the list for now. But I'll consider it, sir. But anyways, Dispatch, honestly, guys, everybody go play. We'll love this game. It's so good.

Hades 2 Insights

00:24:44
Speaker
And Aaron Paul, I can't believe how good Aaron Paul was as the main character. Dude, he he could be a serious voice actor. Like, he killed it.
00:24:50
Speaker
Which I guess, i why would I be surprised if he's literally an actor? So, of course, he could do a voice. But yeah. He's in one of the greatest shows of all time. Breaking Bad. Science, man. Bitch. Whatever. Alright, Hajj, why don't you tell us about a game you've been playing, sir?
00:25:05
Speaker
Yeah, so I finally beat Hades 2. I haven't played them yet, so I am still playing it, but I did roll credits on it and beat the story. It is very... I like how they did this game's story because in the first one, basically, you're trying to get to the surface to find your mom, and then eventually you find her and all blah blah blah. Spoilers. And...
00:25:27
Speaker
Then, so you think the story ends, but since it's a roguelike, you obviously keep doing runs, and they really couldn't justify the fact that you're still doing runs at that point. It just kind of was happening.
00:25:38
Speaker
and But in this one, it makes a little more sense how they do it. Like, you beat the thing, you beat the game, and then as you're doing it, it's you're kind of still training is kind of what you're doing. So you kind of replay alternate timelines. And so it makes it makes it a lot more fun like that, but... Obviously, I don't want to spoil what happens to who and what not, but ah this game...
00:26:00
Speaker
i it's so It's so tough because love the first one. love playing it. I platinumed it and 100% it on Xbox. I loved it that much. but so it's like It's hard for me to say I like this one more, but I really do because they improved on what needed to be improved on. I think the only thing I like about the first game more is I like the weapons. that you because You have like six weapons to choose from, and I liked the weapons in the first one more. and You have a cast in the first one where you can throw something or make like a weapon that you throw at enemies. And that in this one is like a binding circle that captures enemies that you so you can attack them. And I kind of like the cast better, though. The binding circle is a lot of fun. But so it's just different than the first one. But I do think they obviously they learned from mistakes of the first one and they greatly improved it. it's a little bloated and how much there is to do because in the first one you have to give gifts to characters to improve your ah relationship with them. And then you, you know, kind of grow with them and you, And you do all the stuff and there are like four times as many characters in this and you still have to do that. And the items you have to gift them are really hard to find in the game. So it's a lot more grindy and trying to get the stuff to gift these characters. But other than that, I think this this game does pass the first one. It's it's a absolutely phenomenal game. And obviously i recommend it to anyone who. Likes a challenge. It's not the, it's not like the most difficult game. I'm sure there's people out there who are bigger fans of bigger roguelikes and they're like, Oh, this is baby's first roguelike. I'm sure they have that stupid kind of mindset about it, but this game is incredible.
00:27:36
Speaker
And I suggest anyone to play it who wants a semi challenging, but energy. And it's like, I like it in the same way as a, how you like dispatch in the same way that you can run in, just do a run or jump into a run. They take, you know, 15 to 20 minutes if you're good. And you can hop out and go back and keep doing it So it's just one of those games that I, it's now that I've beaten it, it's going one of those that I'm able to play other games, but I'll just jump in here and there and just do a run or two and really enjoy it. So how's the music?
00:28:04
Speaker
Oh, it's so good. Cause yeah, I love like, what's the studios. I always forget the studio's name. Um, super giant, super giant. Like their games, they always do such a good job incorporating music into like the actual gameplay. And, um,
00:28:20
Speaker
Yes, i was curious about that. I will say, I think I liked the first game's music a little better because since you're kind of battling out of Hades to the surface, you're down in the depths more. So it's very heavy, heavier kind of music where this one's a little more like mythical kind of music. So I yeah like the soundtrack of the first one better, but it is still a very, very, very good soundtrack. Yeah, they do they do such a good job with ah like incorporating the music into their gameplay. It's so good. Yeah, yeah.
00:28:47
Speaker
very good But yeah, that's all I got to say. It's a fantastic game. I suggest anyone play Hades 1 and 2. They're both absolutely phenomenal games. And then go play their other games as well. I still need to do that too. I need to play their other games because I've heard they're great.
00:29:03
Speaker
Oh my god, they're so good. yeah So you you were kind of comparing them a little bit and maybe you already answered this, but um which one is better, one or two? In your opinion. i I want to say i think two is the better game, but I think I like one more because I liked the powers and weapons more in the first one. But i i will say I think technically Hades two is the better game if you want to look at that and the plot.
00:29:34
Speaker
is a little more is a little better in the second, one even though I don't really play him for the plot. I kind of I'm the kind of person who kind of half three because it's it's a game where, you know, like the the what are they called? Visual novels or whatever, where you're basically when you go to a character shows their character on the side of the screen and then the dialog box on the bottom. That's how the cut scenes are. And so i kind of half heartedly read them and just skip through them. I don't let them finish talking. like So i don't I don't pay the most attention to it, but I pay enough to understand what they're talking about. But I don't need to hear them say every single word before I skip to the next dialogue box. so i always I always thought it was like funny that um they were making like a rogue type game because in their other games, the story is so like it's so integral and so deep.
00:30:23
Speaker
So that's that's why i always thought it was funny. Yeah. Yeah.

The Adventures of Elliot Review

00:30:27
Speaker
Which I mean, and obviously Hades was their most successful because it's the only one time they made a sequel. Exactly. Yeah. Yeah. So, yeah. But yeah, I, yeah, again, love this game. Recommend it to anyone.
00:30:37
Speaker
All right. Sweet. Good stuff. Okay. Sean. I have the list on this thing just so I know what order to make the graphics in. That's solid. No, no, no. That makes sense. Yeah. that's ah Sean, what is your next game you want to discuss? all right, so I'm going to talk about The Adventures of Elliot in the Millennium Tales.
00:30:56
Speaker
So this is a one of those 2D HD games. Unlike Octopath, where that's turn-based RPG, this is much more like a top-down Legend Zelda game. um Now, I will say this. I was super hyped coming into this game. like I thought this game was going to be the greatest thing of the year. I thought this was gonna be like one of my games of the year.
00:31:16
Speaker
I like it.
00:31:20
Speaker
expectations were a little too high i think for me um it's not meeting those meeting those expectations it's fun i will say the gameplay is fun story is very cookie cutter very predictable uh like it's one of those games where you can basically like oh i never need this is probably gonna happen then this this this and then yeah that's exactly what happens it's very much like a very predictable game they kind of lay it out for you You have a really, really annoying companion. Like, you guys think it's bad when Aloy talks at Horizon. Oh, my God. This companion. It's a fairy that follows you. And it is so freaking annoying. It talks all the time.
00:32:02
Speaker
um Just, like, random stupid things, too. It's like, oh, you've done everything you need. It will, like, tell you when you've, like, done everything of it on the quest that you've done in that area. But it's like, I still want to explore the area, like this treasure chest and everything. Oh, you're done here. Why don't we go to the next area?
00:32:19
Speaker
It's like, no, I'm still exploring. Oh, we're done here. Why don't we go? to It's like, no. And they keep saying it and you can't turn it off. They keep saying it, not just once. cause what a be fine It will say it once and then you'll go and do a little bit more and then it will say it again and again. and i do can yeah it gets really annoying. Um,
00:32:36
Speaker
Pros, the combat is really fun. There's a many different weapons, is too. like you have a sword like You can choose between like a sword, a spear, a hammer. There's a scythe, which is really cool. You get bombs, boomerang, bone out. So the combat, like I said, it's very much like a top-down 2D Zelda game, which I love that. um Elliot's a cool character. will Again, though, but he's like a very cookie-cutter character. Like, oh, i'm he's out there to save the world, and he'll do anything for anyone. Yeah.
00:33:05
Speaker
The areas are not that diverse, though. Like, they're very much, like, they're very similar. There's not a lot of diversity, which I was expecting, again, in Legend of Zelda games, you go in, you you one one one second you're in, like, a desert area, the next you're in, like, this, like, deep, dark forest. um There's also time travel in the game, and the weirdest thing is when you time travel in this game, the area, like, doesn't change. Like, you go back in time,
00:33:31
Speaker
years like thousands of years and the area is still the same like it's weird like you know what mean it's like there's like no change you would think it would have like changed um unlike ocarina of time where there's a lot of change when traveling through time exactly ah you can definitely see there's just a lot of inspiration from zelda though um particularly with the weapons and the combat and um but that But again, ah my expectations, I think, were a little too high. i think the score, it got an 80.
00:34:00
Speaker
like and I'm not big into scoring games, but I think that's that's definitely very appropriate for this game. It's fun. Not going blow you out of the water. i think, again, I think I came in with my expectations way too high.
00:34:11
Speaker
It's gorgeous, though. It is gorgeous to look at.
00:34:15
Speaker
Okay. Yeah. Well, it was one of those that I saw. I saw the graphics and I was like, that looks, I knew this was never going to be a game for me, but it's one of those where I look at the art style and I'm like, oh that is a gorgeous game. But I knew it would never be for me though. Yeah.
00:34:29
Speaker
ah the The biggest thing for me is like one, the fairy companion is super, super annoying. And I'm usually not like that with like, I'm like, all right, whatever. And the the time travel thing where the areas don't change it. Like that is like

Star Ocean Second Story R Review

00:34:41
Speaker
baffles me. I'm like, why isn't it different?
00:34:45
Speaker
e yeah yeah all right ah midnight do you got to say about that well you have successfully convinced me not to play it thank you sure because yeah it sounds very mid and I'm not looking to play mid so ah I would much rather play Octopath Traveler Zero instead which i would I would rather have you go beat the final boss of Octopath 2 No, not going to happen. He beat the shit out of me, and I'm not i'm not ready to be...
00:35:18
Speaker
beaten but and It's like me with ah with Claire Obscure. I still have yet to beat Simon because it's so difficult on that Xbox. He beat me so thoroughly that I was like, this is never going to happen. I'm out. like it was It was so one sided. Like, I think he killed me in like one turn or something. And my dudes were like level 90 or something. Like, I was pretty leveled up. and It was just like, yeah, this is going to happen. umm and then And then you watch a YouTube video of a guy doing it with all level like 10th.
00:35:42
Speaker
i don't I don't know how some of these people do this stuff, man. It's like it's like when I was ah traveling in the sub in Final Fantasy VII and ran into the the weapon or whatever underwater, and i was like, oh, what's this thing? And it murders me in one move. I'm like, never mind. Yeah.
00:35:59
Speaker
all right But I'll tell you what game was great though, Sean. oh My next game. And that was one game actually that you recommended to me, didn't you? Star Ocean Second Story R. So this is some weebery here. And this is this is very...
00:36:16
Speaker
Very, very good game. I love this game. I beat it. I wanted to beat it a second time. i actually started it a second time, but I was like, nah, I'm not going to do it. Maybe one day. Maybe one day I'll go back because you get to play as two different characters, right? Yeah. I played as Claude, so I picked the male MC, my first playthrough here, my only playthrough so far. preferred character to play us Yeah, I picked Claude because I'm a guy. you know, I went with the guy. I don't always do that. But usually, usually I pick the guy.
00:36:41
Speaker
um So I went with Claude and, you know, he's cool. And I had my ah I had my party going. My favorite party, Sean, I told you before, is, of course, Claude, the main character. reina the other main character yeah and and his canon love interest or whatever um and then i also had the the little mage dude who was kind of a smart ass i think leon is his name yeah he was he's a badass mage he's kind of a dick uh but i thought he was funny man uh he's a lovable dick uh and he's a very powerful mage he was nuking people let me tell you uh and then my last character was preces which is the uh mechanic the mechanic girl like And like I said last time, she's so weird.
00:37:23
Speaker
She's very weird. as She's funny, though. She's funny. And I really loved all of the characters, though, like except for Diaz. But I don't know Diaz that well because I didn't play as Reina. And when you play as Reina, you actually get to recruit and use Diaz a lot. ah He was all right, though. He was like a super powerful swordsman.
00:37:40
Speaker
So it's it's funny say because I thought the same thing when I played Justice Claude, when I played his story. And then I played Reina's story. And Diaz became like one of my favorites. Yeah, i bet he'd be. I do want to go back one day and and play as Reyna. Selene, the super hot mage, was also good. um And yeah, just great characters all around. like you know I had an awesome awesome time, awesome party. um The story was great. um you know I don't know what there The combat is super fun, too. The combat. so like So you enter a combat, and it's like...
00:38:14
Speaker
It's real-time action, but it's like on a 2D plane, like a static 2D plane. So you're just walking around, beating on people with your sword or whatever, dropping abilities, calling in nukes from your coworkers. Well, most of them do it on their own, but you can call in nukes on your own. You get to customize greatly their abilities and which spells they're going to use. It's it's super fun. The combat's really good.
00:38:37
Speaker
um I did put it on easy, as I told you. I played ah the first like 30% of it on normal, and it was not hard. Like I wasn't dying at all. But there's so much combat in this game. It said I had like 500 battles or something by the end. i ended up just throwing it on easy because I'm like, I don't i don't want to be playing this for like 50 hours just fighting these same mobs. You know what I mean? So I put it on easy to make the battles a little quicker.
00:39:00
Speaker
But dude, awesome story. Awesome boss fights and stuff. Great characters. Great story. Very cool art style. Very unique art style. You have kind of like a 3D overworld, which is beautiful. And then ah an interesting HD 2D art style. It's not your normal HD 2D art style. It's kind of like a pastel smeared ah look like HD 2D art style. It's cool though. I really like it.
00:39:22
Speaker
Second story are I'm a fan, Sean. yeah Good job. um So You didn't get to recruit Bowman because... Yeah, okay. So when you play again, you got to recruit Bowman because he is one of my favorites.
00:39:35
Speaker
Yeah, I'm definitely going to recruit the other people. Yeah. um Also, there's this Opera Vectra, which I didn't get to. Yeah. I didn't get to recruit, but she looks quite quite good. She's super powerful. Like, one of the... like they People think she's OP. like they they like There's, like, runs. It's like, oh, if you speedrun the game, like you just use her.
00:39:54
Speaker
You recruit her when you're Reyna, huh? Yeah. Okay. Yeah, I'm going to play it at another time. I will. just I'm not ready to do it right this second, but very good game. and And I also, because I enjoyed this game, Sean, like I said, I went out and bought the ah the newer one. What's it called? Divine divide Force. Divine Force, because it looks cool, too. Divine Force is awesome. Super underrated. um One more thing about Second Story Art. Did you like the Colosseum?
00:40:19
Speaker
Yeah, the Colosseum was fun. Yeah. Yeah, dude, everything about this game. I have no complaints with this game. it was very good. Story gets like super deep and dark too. that's's ah That's a common thing with Star Ocean games too. Like it'll be very lighthearted at the beginning and then also just gets like super dark.
00:40:36
Speaker
Who was your, do you remember who your party was when you played as Claude? Like your main party, your core four? Yeah. So I used, used Leon a lot because I think Leon was pretty, pretty awesome. Well, we both did. Okay. That's interesting because I know ah he was kind of divisive. Like a lot of people didn't like him because he's a dick, you know? um Ashton, pretty good.
00:41:01
Speaker
Selene, I liked as well. Yeah, Selene's great. Yeah. I just, I, yeah, Leon replaced Selene because he's yeah a better mage, but yeah. With Reyna though, I, I loved like, like I loved DS and Bowman too. Well, I mean, Bowman, you can get his clawed as well, but I, I did it with Reyna, my Reyna playthrough. um But yeah, the combat is just like, so I, like, I remember the first time i played Star Ocean, like ever, i was like blown away by the combat. I couldn't believe like how interesting and unique it is.
00:41:32
Speaker
Yeah, it's good. It's fun. Yeah. And then when you get to eventually get to Divine Force, the combat is like on like it's like that in that 3D plane, but it's like fully 3D because the game is obviously 3D. Yeah.
00:41:45
Speaker
All right. I'm looking forward to it. All right. Well, that's what I've been playing there. Star Ocean Second Story R. ah Hodge, how about you, sir? Yeah. Real quick, that I know we've talked about that second story arc, but yeah, that art style is unbelievable. It's such a gorgeous game. One more thing. I'll have to show it next time because i don't have it.
00:42:06
Speaker
Well, I had it, but i have to go find it. um If you pre-ordered like the collector's edition, you got like a full diorama of like oh my and it's just like ah it's like of the Coliseum with all the characters there.

Overwatch Experiences

00:42:19
Speaker
It was freaking awesome.
00:42:20
Speaker
Diorama. Let's see what you find online. I don't see it. All right. Um, yeah, but my next game ah is an oldie. Actually, I haven't played this game in close to 10 years at this point. But my girlfriend asked if I want to play it. So was like, screw it. hop back in. And that is Overwatch. i She's just like, we've just we like playing like that's why I don't have many games on my list, because I just kind of spend time playing games. My friends online now, I haven't played many single specials.
00:42:50
Speaker
player games recently but uh yeah she's like you want to play it i'm like sure i haven't literally have not played this since i bought it maybe 2017 if not 2016 like it's been a long time since i played this game and this game it's still a blast i obviously i know it kind of went through its dark days and it came back and blah blah blah everyone's gay in it and uh but yeah it's it's they got rid of the two in overwatch 2 and not or got rid of i think Did they get rid of the camera? But it's just yeah it's just what it used to be now. And there's way more so um ah characters in it now. I used to play as Zendaya or Zendaya.
00:43:33
Speaker
Zenyatta. Zenyatta. He's a healer. I used to play him back in the day. But now I i found some new characters. Because you can play against AI rather than going online right away. So we were playing against bots for a little bit just to kind of get the feel of the game. And there's some characters in this game, new ones that I was shuffling through. And I found some really fun ones that I'm probably going play with now. But yeah, we didn't play too long. So I've only i only played it for two, three hours yesterday or something like that. But this game, i at granted, I still don't think it should have game of the year in 2016. That's.
00:44:05
Speaker
I don't think it's a game of the year type game, but it is insanely fun. Like it'd be the same as giving Fortnite game of the year. Like it's a fun game, but it's not a game of the year. It's just a really fun game. But yeah, I I'm enjoying it. We'll probably keep playing it here and there, but we mostly play Fortnite, which isn't on my list. Cause I don't need to talk about it every time we do this, but ah yeah, it's, it's, ah it's a blast. And I mean, I was getting my butt whooped for the most part when we're playing online because obviously we're playing against people have probably been playing it for 10 years. so but it's still it's a blast. It's a lot of fun.
00:44:37
Speaker
yeah You want to know the one thing I know about Overwatch? What? The character Tracer. That's it. Tracer. Yeah, the Tracer. Yeah, is that the character on the cover? Yes, the girl who has like the teleporting speed. yeah whatever yeah Tracer and that diva D.Va chick are super popular. And fun fact, it's the most popular so thing to make porn out of. so there's not That's great.
00:45:01
Speaker
Overwatch? It wouldn't surprise me. A bunch of weird um online terminally online weirdos make porn out of their video games all the time. It's the same thing with a Goodbye Volcano High. What?
00:45:12
Speaker
Exactly. god Exactly. ah But yeah, I don't have much to add. I've just been playing Overwatch and it's been fun. So. All right. Locke loves Overwatch. Yeah, I asked him to play one time and he's like yeah, sure. and then I never heard from him again. So Locke does not like Locke does not like playing games with me. It's very sad.
00:45:30
Speaker
Yeah. You got to remind him a couple of times. He's busy. Yeah. Busy, busy man. Yeah. he's I think he's like a try hard sweat, though. So. He'd either carry you or he'd get mad. I'm not good enough for him. that's I get it. Who knows? Who knows?
00:45:44
Speaker
All right. Yeah, I've never really played Overwatch. I tried it like once and I was like, eh, no. I've never even thought about Super popular. Never even thought about it. Yeah. It was game of the year.
00:45:56
Speaker
i know. I can't believe it beat out like Uncharted 4. Yeah. played Uncharted 4, but it probably shouldn't have. Yeah. All right. I got nothing to add.

Assassin's Creed Odyssey Impressions

00:46:08
Speaker
Sean, what's your next game? All right. We got Midnight's Golden Gem Assassin's Creed Odyssey. I need to apologize for years, about 18 years of...
00:46:22
Speaker
talking crap about assassin's creed and how bad it is and how ah the real ac is animal crossing which it still is um uh i've been enjoying assassin's creed odyssey like way so much more than i than i ever thought i would i would enjoy an assassin's creed game uh You know, now that I think about it, though, I think a lot of it might have to do with like the Greek setting, because I really like like that whole like ancient Greece. like I'm really... like I love that. like I actually read i read the Odyssey, Iliad and the Odyssey. like i I love all that. um
00:47:00
Speaker
This game is awesome. Yeah. I get lost all the time just going in and deciding I'm going to do some main story and then just going around stealthily killing people. The stealth in this game is phenomenal. like I haven't played like a stealth game like in a long time but this has like gotten that itch in me where i'm like oh i love just like planning out like oh i gotta i gotta i gotta hide here make sure when this guy walks by kill him but not don't alert anyone else because you need to be very stealth and it is just like you're planning out all these things and then like once one thing goes wrong i'm like oh crap and then i'll like try to run away like all right i gotta run away so i can be stealthy again
00:47:44
Speaker
not going to go all full on action mode. I am playing as Cassandra. Like I said, ah spears are awesome. I got that poison spear that midnight was talking about. And that is just like, I think oh lot it's one of my favorite. It's one of my favorite weapons in the game. I didn't think I was going to enjoy like the naval aspect of it. Oh my God. It's super fun. Like it's super fun using, doing the naval combat and then like boarding enemy ships and taking over. Like that is awesome. Um,
00:48:12
Speaker
I honestly have no idea how far into the game I am. um That at midnight, when I gave you that last update on the the last mission that I did, I have not done a main mission since then, but I have played like eight more hours of the game. Yeah. Yeah.
00:48:26
Speaker
It's one of those things. so I'm doing like a bunch of side stuff. um And then, like I said, I just get lost and just want to assassinate people. I think I'm like way too over leveled though.
00:48:37
Speaker
um Like way too high. And it's no, go on. It's funny because people were complaining. That was one of the biggest complaints of the game is that Ubisoft had like an XP booster that you could buy. You don't need it.
00:48:50
Speaker
No. cause like You're over-leveled. I bet you didn't buy it. No. um I'm like level 35 right now. And i just I just looked up the the last mission that It is said the recommended level was 18. So I'm like way... ah hard And I'm actually considering...
00:49:08
Speaker
you know playing another assassin's creed game after this yeah we we'll give you some black black and black black black flag well that's what i was thinking maybe i'll just play the black flag remake because it's like it's like newer um and i probably probably would like that the only thing is i'm a little nervous because like i like i said i do like the naval combat in this game but it is like my least favorite aspect of this game yeah i i would go somewhere else before black flag honestly I mean, Origins is good. It's very similar to Odyssey. It's that it's basically the same gameplay, just set in Egypt. So if you want the same kind of experience, that's a good one. Black Flag is just a very fun game. And obviously it has a lot of naval combat because you're a pirate. Yeah. and ah
00:49:49
Speaker
I would say two... 2 is way too dated at this point. he's I don't know if I'm going to pull out the PS3 on 2. No. i don't know well i think they have I think they had a remaster. It's a remaster. I wouldn't go anywhere before 3.
00:50:03
Speaker
What about the on
00:50:08
Speaker
The 2D side is going. that China? assassin china whatever Yeah, those are a spinoff, so I didn't really play those. um I will say this. One of my favorite things to do is when I'm hiding, just whistle.
00:50:20
Speaker
Just doing the whistle. What's that? What? Yeah, they come over and over with get wrapped. And then you slit their throats. ah I love how you love the stealth so much, but that's like the thing that the crybabies are like, oh, the stealth isn't good. There's no hidden blade. It's like, yeah, that's because it takes place like 500 years before the assassins came. i don't know. I think it's awesome. Like that's like one of my, another, fear i another the really thing I do is just like climbing up really tall buildings and just like perching yourself and just, just, just scouting the area out. That's pretty cool too. It's so good, dude. to Some of the side quests, like that there's the the Olympics is there. Yeah, the side quests with the Olympics. The first Thespian or whatever. that what What's his name?
00:51:03
Speaker
Thespian? I don't know. The first actor is there. Like, did you you do find his quest? Yeah, i know what you're talking about. Yeah, yeah, I did. Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. There's such a lot of there's a lot of just like cool stuff to do. it Like I said, even just running around the world like super fun.
00:51:19
Speaker
Yeah, and like the game world is very reactive, too, to your choices. Like, if you remember on the first island, there was that plague quest. What did you do with the plague on that island? do you remember? Did you kill the family or did you let them look live? Well, no, I let them live. I don't. i don't okay Have you ever gone back to the to the starter island? No, should I? you might You might want to take a trip back and see the outcome of that choice.
00:51:41
Speaker
Oh, crap. Should i have killed them? I don't know. i go Why don't you go see what the state is of the island? right, let me boot it up right now. Let's get the PS5 going up. Odyssey is so good. I love it. Yeah, yeah usually in... I mean, i just talked about how I like to run around stealthily killing people. But usually in like main story missions, if there's ah an option to like spare or kill someone, usually I just spare them.
00:52:05
Speaker
I do too. i most Most people are are good guys when they play games, right? So I do too. But I killed that family though. I was like, no, we can't let them spread the plague, dude. although and but you although and You did, so we'll see what happens.
00:52:18
Speaker
yeah well Although in the Outer Worlds, there wasn't an optional thing where I did kill everyone. and Nice. but yeah Are you going to get the Platinum? Depends, because I know Chris was talking about he wants to go back and get the Platinum, and someone, I can't remember who said, said it only took him like eighty maybe 85 hours to get it.
00:52:40
Speaker
these Only 85 hours. It's not that bad. Yeah. So I might. i You know what? I probably end up well because i am just like really loving it. I'm going to go back and I'm going to replay it and I'm going to get the platinum. I'm committed to that because playing Black Flag has made me want to play Odyssey because Odyssey is a better Black Flag. It honestly is.
00:53:00
Speaker
The only thing better about Black Flag is the ship combat. Everything else is better, in my opinion, in Odyssey. The setting is better. The combat is way better. i like the story.
00:53:11
Speaker
a little better honestly i pirates are cool but it's also kind of like not a big pirate got they can play it out when you think about it all it is is dudes attacking ships and looting you know like i cool man but the only thing and i'm gonna beat this joke to death the only thing i don't like about odyssey is that there's no mario and cabbie so all right man well can't wait to hear more about odyssey i'll probably have i'm gonna try to have it beat within next week hodge did you play odyssey I started it but fell off because I played it literally right after Origins. And so I was so burnt out on Open World that I was like, I can't believe this right now. but I'll go back to it, though, at at some point. What's the one set in Egypt?
00:53:53
Speaker
Origins. Okay, because I'm pretty... like ah i think a lot of the thing with Assassin's Creed, like I said, is going to be like the setting for me. Same here. And I am pretty... like I think it ji ancient Egypt is pretty cool, too.
00:54:06
Speaker
We'll do that next. Yeah, that's a good one. Yeah, origin is a good one. Obviously, four is in the Caribbean, three is revolutionary time America. ah Valhalla is Norse, you know, whatever. Vikings, yep. What, the French Revolution? Yeah, that's that's a good one, too.
00:54:25
Speaker
That's a good traditional, if you want like the old school. see it What's like the original one? What's what's that set, Darren? The first one was set in the Middle Ages. Yeah, it's set in like 1400 or something, Middle East. I can't remember where exactly. We should get a 2020 one. It's in the COVID era.
00:54:43
Speaker
Yeah, there you go. the best one You might like Shadows, even in Japan. um It actually has an ending now of with the DLC. so the best The best one is the one that's set in Tsushima. Yeah, Ghosts of the Sheep. Oh, yeah.
00:54:56
Speaker
Oh, didn't they add... Which one did they... They had, like Jack the Ripper in it. Yeah, that's... It was DLC in Revelation. It's Syndicate, I think. Syndicate, yeah. All right. Because that one's in London, yeah. Yeah. I never played that one. I own it, but I never played it.
00:55:12
Speaker
That one's, like, mid mid to low tier for me. Yeah, that's what i that's why I never played it. I just never heard much about it, so... Sean, you and I are exactly the same. I think there's two types of Assassin's Creed players. For some people, Assassin's Creed is being an assassin and sneaking and and killing people with the hidden blade. That's what Assassin's Creed is to them, which I understand because that is what the the game started as, right? But for me, what Assassin's Creed is, is a awesome historical playground. And that

Fire Emblem Series Discussion

00:55:41
Speaker
started really with three, because when three came out, you had the American Revolution. The setting was a huge thing. yeah And then four, you had pirates. Right. And then you had the French Revolution and then you had London and then you had ancient Egypt, Greece.
00:55:53
Speaker
ah The setting really became like the star the star attraction. So for me, Assassin's Creed is less about actually assassinating people with a hidden blade and more about the historical setting and playing Yeah, that's why I don't think I would like Valhalla. I'm not really big into Norse mythology. It's funny because like I've only played God of War. i I've only played those two God of War. I like God of War, but I'm not big into the Norse mythology. i Honestly, the French Revolution, not like my thing either. I'm like good with that. How dare you hate on Napoleon? Yeah, shout out to... Wasn't that like way before the French Revolution?
00:56:28
Speaker
No. Napoleon was part of the French Revolution. i' right at Right after the French Revolution, Napoleon took over. Okay. yeah I'm not big on that. I don't remember his infamous s line that said, I am the French Revolution.
00:56:41
Speaker
um I think I would probably like three because I love like the American Revolution. Like I love that whole idea. yeah That's why I'm kind of worried now. I don't know if I want to play Black Flag. I'm not big into pirates. Like I'm not a pirate guy. Well, go and play Black Flag right now then. You can play it in the future. yeah I think Origin sounds like your next one.
00:56:58
Speaker
I think three is overhated if I'm being honest. i don't like the Do you think a lot of that has to do with because so many people love two and then after that four came out and people loved four? Mm-hmm.
00:57:10
Speaker
It's possible because the its because it was Assassin's Creed and then it was two Brotherhood and Revelations, at which was the Ezio trilogy. So like the fact that Ezio just ended, it moves on to a new one. Everyone's kind of like, eh. But...
00:57:24
Speaker
Three also, like it was set in the New World, you know, and in the Americas. So you didn't have like real massive developed cities. It was a lot of like climbing through trees and smaller towns and stuff. um So people didn't like that um as much. But i I think three is good. I think it sounds to me like the next game that you should play is probably Origin because you love the yeah the Egypt setting. Probably either go Origins or three or the one set in London.
00:57:52
Speaker
so Yeah, I'm not a massive fan of that one, but it's not bad. ah the One cool cool thing about 3 is it has a DLC where like George Washington becomes like a king, like a tyrant. I didn't play that. I need to. um But the cover art for that is fucking awesome. You should look up. like It's got George Washington looking evil sitting on like a throne with a crown on. like It looks cool.
00:58:13
Speaker
yeah and But anyway. All right. Well, let's keep it moving. AC Odyssey is the GOAT. I'm glad you're enjoying it, sir. um My next game, my last game, I beat it last night. Pause.
00:58:28
Speaker
I'm talking about Fire Emblem, Path of Radiance. This game's awesome. Thank you, by the way, to Sean, because it was only thanks to you that I was able to play this game, thanks to the expansion pass thing.
00:58:41
Speaker
ah that you that you shared. So Fire Emblem Path of Radiance from the GameCube. It's funny, I started this game in February and it's taken me this long to finally beat it because at first I wasn't feeling it and then I was feeling it but I was distracted because I was playing a bunch of other games. But I finally dedicated myself over the past couple weeks, and I've played it a lot more thoroughly. And I beat the game, rolled credits last night. Very good, very satisfying story. This game, i got it at like an 80, an 8 out of 10 right now. it is it's It's in the middle to lower tier of the Fire Emblems I've played, but it is quite good.
00:59:20
Speaker
It's got a great story. I like Ike. He's a great character. What are saying, Sean? I was going to ask you which which sword fighter is the main character in this game? Ike. Yeah, Ike. You know Ike? Yeah, he's from Super Smash Bros. Brawl.
00:59:33
Speaker
yeah that's where he came from first. Yeah, of course. And then and then they ported him over Yeah, they were like, oh well, let's give this Smash Bros. character his own game. That's how it works. That's what happened, yeah. so um And it's funny, when I rolled credits, one of the first names, I posted to this in Discord, but the executive producer was Satoru Iwata. Of course, the unfortunately passed away ah president of Nintendo. And I thought that was cool seeing his name as the executive producer.
00:59:59
Speaker
And, you know i have a very special place in my heart for Iwata because for people who don't know, he is the man that saved Fire Emblem. And I love Fire Emblem. it He had just become president of Nintendo back then. And Nintendo was wanting to cancel Fire Emblem because it was not doing well. It was only in Japan. It wasn't a huge seller. But he was like, no. Iwata was like, no. like This game has promise. This fills an interesting niche in our catalog. We don't have other games like this. And he's like, this game, if we localize it and put an English dub and and advertise it in the West, like this game has Western appeal. So he saved Fire Emblem. Path of Radiance came out.
01:00:40
Speaker
And then, of course, eventually Awakening on the 3DS, as we know, was the game that really, really saved it because that game was a hit on three ds um so I know you probably can't you probably have no access to playing this but I guess the sequel to this game Radiant Dawn is supposed to be like one of the best Fire Emblem games yeah I need to play that but it's not on the thing right now it's trapped on the Wii yeah Well, if they ever add that to the virtual deal, I'll play. it well Honestly, this I could see like a... re a they should make well i could Maybe emulate it, bet could. You probably could, because this is... both i I guess this is considered like one of the best Fire Emblem games, Radiant Dog. And it's like a direct sequel.
01:01:22
Speaker
Yeah, I can already see where this might go, because there was some ah some lingering, like, oh shit, this could happen, and set things off, ah so I could see where this sequel might go. Yeah.
01:01:33
Speaker
And it sounds interesting. So ah yeah, maybe I'll emulate that someday. yeah If Nintendo is not going to put it on their hardware, then I might have to just break out the the PC and get the emulator. Or I can send you my Wii with my copy of Radiant Dawn. Because fun fact, even though i never played Fire Emblem until three houses, I ah own Radiant Dawn because I knew back in the day that this game would be worth something one day. And it is, but... Well, hold off on that. I don't i don't want to have you do all that. I know I could emulate it.
01:02:02
Speaker
So... But we'll see. ah I'm not going to play that right now. But yeah, I am excited. i want to play all these Fire Emblems at some point because, you know, i love Fire Emblem. It's awesome. And everyone should play Fire Emblem because it's awesome.
01:02:14
Speaker
So there you go. The one thing I don't like, I actually, maybe I'm i'm kind of a pussy, I guess. I don't like the permadeath. Oh, my God. That's how you're supposed to play. I know that's like the core thing. Like, Ooh, you know, you gotta be real careful. You'll lose your characters. I don't want to lose my characters. Okay. I'm playing for the story and for the combat. I don't mind that characters die, but I don't want them to be permanently dead. You know what i mean?
01:02:35
Speaker
It should be plot related, not gameplay related. oh no I love the permanent death. I think it's awesome. I think it, think it makes you care more about the characters. It's like, I can't lose this character. Right. It does. But it's also very frustrating when you do lose. Yeah. Well, you know, get good.
01:02:51
Speaker
Yeah. Well, i do like it in the newer games. Yeah. You can turn that off. yeah And I do. I turn it off. Midnight, are you like the when you're reading the Choose Your Own Adventure book? You're like, i didn't take my hand off the page. I didn't take it off the page.
01:03:04
Speaker
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. I'd always go back. Well, I wouldn't always. But a lot of times I would go back to see what was the other choice? What would happen? yeah You know, that's part of the fun. Yeah. know ah But yeah, so there you go. Fire Emblem, Path of Radiance. Awesome game. Very good. Very nice. Shout out to Iwata. May you rest in peace, sir. You are an angel for saving this great franchise.
01:03:24
Speaker
And yeah. Everyone should play Fire Emblem. Start with Awakening. It's the best one. Buy a 3DS and play it or emulate it. But if you don't want to play Awakening, they just you play Three Houses. Three Houses is on the Switch and Switch 2, and it's incredible.
01:03:39
Speaker
So there you go. And of course, the game of the year, Fortune's Weave, is coming soon, Sean. It's coming soon, and so will I. Pause.
01:03:51
Speaker
That's it. That's what I got. That's what Hodge, you think about Fire Emblem, sir? I know you're into it. I don't.
01:03:58
Speaker
Will you ever play a Fire Emblem? You don't care. No. no These games don't look interesting to you at all? No. what what What about, don't you like you don't want to do grid-based combat? Yes.
01:04:09
Speaker
There's too many characters in Smash Bros. That's why. no Yeah. I have played Fire Emblem. Yeah, we've already played Fire Emblem. Smash Bros. Ultimate. Smash Bros. Funny Sean was mentioning how ah they came to they came to Smash Bros. before the actual Fire Emblem game came out. So people were confused. They brought Marth and Roy. Because originally...
01:04:29
Speaker
um marth had never been really like the marth character had never been released in america before and then roy that the fire emblem game wasn't even out yet and they put them in smash bros and people were like who are these characters and then like nobody really knew what fire emblem was over here and i remember when i unlocked marth and roy i'm like are these like legend of zelda characters like what zelda game are these guys from because they had swords yeah that's ah that's that's the mind of a six-year-old right there there you go funny All right, Hodge. Well, you don't care about Fire Emblem, but why don't you tell us about

Mecha Chameleon and Mario Wonder Discussion

01:05:01
Speaker
what you do care about? What game did you play next?
01:05:03
Speaker
Yeah, so this last game I've been playing a lot. ah My girlfriend has this little crappy laptop that she uses sometimes for like just doing work mobily. And so she gave it she gave it to me to play with for a little bit. And so we've been playing Mecha Chameleon together, which anyone who's been on the internet in the last year has seen this game. It is It is insanely fun. So if you, if you have lived under Rocky and owner, it is basically one or two people are a hunter and everyone else is these little, little white, you know, faceless characters that run around and on these huge maps that are really detailed. And basically you have to go hide and paint yourself to look like your surroundings and the, and you can set your own time limits. You can set your own like hiding time limits, all all these, it's all settings that can be edited, but yeah, Basically, I think it's like default, like five minutes where these people have to go around. they have a shotgun and they just have to try and find you hidden in the world. And it's not a game that I would play by myself. It's I guess the stupid new term that people are calling is friend slop.
01:06:10
Speaker
I don't know. it just means it It just means it's a party game. Yeah, it's it's it's a stupid fucking term. ah It's just a party game. And but when you're playing with the group of I mean, just playing my a girlfriend and strangers is fun. But when you're playing with like a group of eight people and you're all in the same chat, like laughing because it's just how dumb people's hiding spots are, like how dumb the paintings are. It's all.
01:06:34
Speaker
It's just an absolute blast. Like this isn't some game that's going to be, or it's, it is like a fad game, quote unquote of like, it's like among us it's fall guys. It's one of these games that's going to come and go. But at, while it's popular, while it's fun, it is, it is an insanely fun game to play with your friends. And I recommend it to anyone. And it's crazy because it was made in like two months by two people or something, or like five months by two people or something like it's a very, very small indie game.
01:07:01
Speaker
And so it's very cool to see what people can do when they have a passion for a project. and Yeah, it's it's I mean, it's, you know, it has its little glitchy moments and stuff. It's not like the most polished game in the world, but it's it's insanely fun. ah There's two there's two game modes. Also, there's one where you can see where everyone else is hiding when you're a hider, because when you die, you're just done and you're watching the rest of the game. And then there's an infection mode where you can't see anyone else. And so when you die, you become a hunter.
01:07:29
Speaker
And so you have to be cool. Yeah. And so you have to hide and hope that it's good enough that because there have been games where there's like 16 people in the game and I've been the last one. And so there's 15 people finding trying to look for me and I'm like, ah no don't find me. And I've won because I'm, you know, I can draw. But it's yeah, it's.
01:07:49
Speaker
It's so much fun. And I, yeah, if you have a piece, it's only on PC. I think you can mod it. Like there's certain programs on Mac that you can make it run. Cause it's a, it's a steam only game. And so, yeah, I think there's a way that you can make it run on like Mac steam, but I don't feel like installing it. I don't want to destroy my computer doing installing stuff. I don't know what it is. And so, and some of these programs you have to pay money for to make them run. I'm like, I'm not,
01:08:17
Speaker
I'm not like jailbreaking my Mac to play a $5 game. So I just play on my girlfriend's laptop instead. So, but yeah, it's, it's insanely addicting and fun party game. And I, and it's cool because there are like the built-in levels that come with the game that, you know, but,
01:08:34
Speaker
it's a moddable game where you can literally, people have made their own levels. Like there's a SpongeBob level where you can hide like the Krusty Krab by the chum bucket, by the houses. It's like, yeah. And then there's like a Minecraft level. There's a Mario cart level. There's all these just custom levels people have made that you can hide in And so before a game, if like if the the host of the game selects like the SpongeBob level, a notification will pop up that says like these people need to install this map. And literally there's just a link that brings you to Steam and you download it and it uploads into the game and you play. Like it's very, it's all, they're all free mods and everything. And so it's a very easily accessible game that if all you need is the game on steam and you have everything else. So yeah, it's an absolute blast.
01:09:19
Speaker
I've heard such good things about this game. Like so many people are enjoying it. that They're having so much fun. I've seen such creative hiding spots. It's like watching people play online and people post like these crazy spots where they're hiding. It looks super fun. i'm I'm really glad that this game is doing well. ah The devs have made,
01:09:36
Speaker
Like I forget, they they talked about how much money they've made on the game and like they never shot when they made it like that was going to blow up like this. Yeah, it's like Flappy Bird.
01:09:48
Speaker
You're very flat away though. 10 years ago. Hopefully. yeah Yeah, yeah, yeah. I really do hope this is a game that has a little bit. of ah Again, it's not going to be like a Fortnite where 10 years later, so people are still playing Mecha Chameleon. But I do hope that it has legs enough that it stays popular for a while and people can enjoy it and it improves and everything.
01:10:03
Speaker
So, yeah, it's awesome. All right. Good stuff, Hodge. um I got nothing to add. Looks cool, though. Have fun. ah Sean, you got your final game. you want to bring us home? got my final game. It is Super Mario Wonder. I'm holding it up for the audience. ah Switch 2 edition. So they added in this thing called that bell part Bella...
01:10:28
Speaker
pat Bella Bell Park and they added it's some extra levels and some and interesting cool stuff and the Kooplings are now in it and Rosalina's in it too now he plays Rosalina um But yeah, it's super fun. Like, I liked Mario Wonder when it came out in 2023. I thought it was a really cool idea. Not my favorite 2D Mario game. You can play as a giant elephant. That's kind of a cool power-up. There's also, like, a badge system, which is really cool.
01:10:54
Speaker
But I decided to pick up the Switch 2 edition just to check it out. It runs super quick. Like, there's, like, absolutely, like, no loading times. Like, you select, like, the level on the overworld, and like, you're instantly in the game.
01:11:04
Speaker
um mario wonder super fun game um it's just different than any kind of other 2d mario game that i've ever played um but the bella bell park is really cool because there's all like i said they added in brand new levels it's almost like a not like a whole new 2d mario game but like there's a substantial amount of extra levels they added in which is pretty cool um that's i just kind of wanted to update you guys on that but it's super fun if you've not played mario wonder i highly suggest playing it um makes me want another 2D Mario game because I could play one every freaking six months and I would love that.
01:11:42
Speaker
But yeah, I am actually replaying the main game too. They they they kind of incorporate the the the park area into the main game as well. Like it's kind of like just like smoothly thrown in there. So yeah, it's a lot of fun. It's from, i haven't played, this is the second, I only played Mario Wonder once back when it originally came out. So it's reminded me how much I did really enjoy my time with it.
01:12:03
Speaker
Hmm. Hmm. yeah the elephant is this Is this the game that was nominated or won Game of the Year or something? or i don't think it won. was nominated? we came out like a year or two ago, right? It came out like right... I think it came out the same day as Spider-Man 2, to be honest.
01:12:20
Speaker
Ah, Sean's favorite. Or Hodge's favorite. Yes, Hodge's favorite game. But yeah, it's super fun. um The art style is awesome. I love... It's so unique and so different for a 2D Mario game. It's not just like the new Super Mario Bros. again. Yeah, it's a good time.
01:12:34
Speaker
What were you go to say about the elephant? The elephant? it's fun It's fun to run around. It's a giant elephant. and like You can just use your trunk to like destroy things. It's really unique.
01:12:45
Speaker
The one thing I will say is because there's no timer, you can explore a lot more. and like For those who don't know, you can get this thing called like the Wonder Flower. and It's essentially like you're tripping on like You're basically tripping, mad tripping And like it totally changes the level And it's super cool It's basically like Luigi's on drugs Because I play as Luigi Nice As you should Oh of course, you gotta play Luigi Because he's weird and different Yeah We're tired of Mario We wanna play as Luigi Alright, good stuff man, good stuff Super Mario Wonder Hodge, do you have any thoughts on that?
01:13:25
Speaker
No, it always looked like a um like a fun game, but it's never been one I've ever gone out of my way for. I'm sure it's an insanely fun two d you know platformer, but yeah, i don't I don't have any plans to ever play it.
01:13:42
Speaker
All right. Well, that's all that we're playing, right? Did anyone else have any other games they wanted to mention? I'm still playing Star Wars Galaxy of Heroes. I'm not going to talk about it, though.
01:13:53
Speaker
It's great. Love it. You're talking about that's all we need to talk about. Yeah. I mean, we're always playing RuneScape, too. i mean i agree I just got Jabba the Hutt, galactic legend. He's awesome. Big slug. Yeah, RuneScape, right? There was somebody, ah unironically, but Meatball, I think, was super hyped.
01:14:10
Speaker
For the yeah about um Monopoly RuneScape game that I tagged you in? Yeah, I don't know. Maybe it wasn't Meatball. Somebody's actually unironically hyped about a Runescape game that's about to come out. I think it's GJ. GJ. Yeah, I'm like, all right, man. I'm not playing it, just

Single vs Multiplayer Gaming

01:14:24
Speaker
so know. Never played Runescape.
01:14:25

We'll never play Runescape, probably. So... All right. Well, guys, why don't we go around the horn and give our final thoughts for this episode? Shall we? Hodge, what are your final thoughts for episode 71? I love talking to video games. I need to get back. i I've as we did in our backlogs game backlog game is our episode. Wow. I can't speak. I do have some backlog single player games that I'm going to be getting to. And now that I've beaten Hades 2, I am ready to hop into those more. But ah yeah, I'm excited to play more single player games. Again, I especially as busy as I am with work, it's fun to just come home and play a multiplayer game with some friends. But i do am looking forward to getting back into some single player games here soon. So I'm excited for that.
