Introduction and Guest Welcome

00:00:04
Speaker
He said one minute.
00:00:06
Speaker
One minute?
00:00:07
Speaker
Yeah.
00:00:08
Speaker
Oh, well, now we're live now.
00:00:10
Speaker
So welcome back to the Artificery Star Wars Unlimited podcast.
00:00:15
Speaker
This is episode six, if I remember correctly, when I created this episode file.
00:00:21
Speaker
That's right.
00:00:24
Speaker
Yep.
00:00:24
Speaker
Episode six, because our last episode was a special episode, which released our spoilers and then we didn't record a regular podcast last week.
00:00:31
Speaker
So we're back here with episode six.
00:00:34
Speaker
Joining me as always, we have Garrett, aka Zero Hour.
00:00:38
Speaker
And we have the other Nick, aka Texture.
00:00:42
Speaker
Wear my Rebels shirt today.
00:00:44
Speaker
He's, yeah, decked out.
00:00:46
Speaker
I don't know if anybody noticed my Loth Cat Cat shirt that I wore like two weeks ago, but I like that shirt.
00:00:53
Speaker
It's like an AT-AT with cat heads on both sides.
00:00:57
Speaker
It's a Loth Cat Cat.
00:00:58
Speaker
I don't think I noticed that.
00:00:59
Speaker
All right.

Game Spoilers and Card Impact

00:01:02
Speaker
Anyway, we've got a lot of stuff we could talk about this week.
00:01:08
Speaker
There's a bunch of spoiler cards, at least 10 officially and two that have come from some sort of French event that's going on this weekend.
00:01:18
Speaker
So many.
00:01:18
Speaker
I'm going to just dub it French TwitchCon because that's probably like... That's the only other time we've seen the giant cards, so...
00:01:28
Speaker
It's true.
00:01:28
Speaker
That seems to be a trend.
00:01:29
Speaker
But I don't know.
00:01:30
Speaker
Before we get into that, like, let's cover, like, what have you been playing?
00:01:35
Speaker
What's your favorite thing to play lately?
00:01:37
Speaker
Have you got any games in?
00:01:39
Speaker
I can't remember if I was on late.
00:01:41
Speaker
Was I on late night after our spoilers?
00:01:43
Speaker
Yep.
00:01:44
Speaker
Yeah.
00:01:44
Speaker
So that even happened, too.
00:01:45
Speaker
So I don't know.
00:01:46
Speaker
I'll throw it to Taxter first.
00:01:48
Speaker
What have you been playing?

Favorite Characters and Strategy Discussion

00:01:52
Speaker
I like Krennic, and I'm glad that he feels good now.
00:01:56
Speaker
More good now.
00:01:57
Speaker
That's where I'm at.
00:01:59
Speaker
He's just fun.
00:01:59
Speaker
He's the closest thing to feeling like a controlly thing that I feel like we got.
00:02:05
Speaker
I like putting up those big walls and then not having to... He's pretty good at having initiative too because you don't have to use his ability.
00:02:15
Speaker
It just works.
00:02:17
Speaker
He's just getting units that have synergy.
00:02:19
Speaker
I don't know.
00:02:19
Speaker
Krennic just flows well with me.
00:02:21
Speaker
I know he's maybe not the best, but...
00:02:25
Speaker
I haven't played them against a lot of Boba and Sabine, which, as we might see when we talk about the tournament thing, seems to be some of the more popular stuff.
00:02:33
Speaker
I believe in Krennic.
00:02:35
Speaker
It's like me, you, and Faith on the community discord.
00:02:39
Speaker
There's three of us.
00:02:40
Speaker
I think Zero likes Krennic too.
00:02:41
Speaker
Zero likes Krennic.
00:02:43
Speaker
Yes.
00:02:44
Speaker
Maybe there's four.
00:02:45
Speaker
There's dozens.
00:02:47
Speaker
But yeah.
00:02:48
Speaker
I don't know.
00:02:48
Speaker
He's not very popular, which just seems weird to me.
00:02:51
Speaker
And I think it's because his ability is not flashy or splashy.
00:02:56
Speaker
Like some people kind of overlook it, but like it's very efficient and does work, like you said, without you having to commit actions to it.
00:03:04
Speaker
And the restore this restore is like
00:03:07
Speaker
It's noticeable.
00:03:08
Speaker
Yeah, like people don't do the math.
00:03:10
Speaker
Like when you flip him, they're like, oh, he's a little 2-7.
00:03:13
Speaker
Like, what's that doing?
00:03:14
Speaker
But like you get a damage on him, makes him a 3-7, and then you get the restore, and that's like a 5 HP swing.
00:03:22
Speaker
Like if you have damage to heal off your bases, like that's better than Boba, at least as far as like a board positioning type swing.
00:03:30
Speaker
Boba would only 4 attack.
00:03:34
Speaker
Good stuff.
00:03:35
Speaker
Garrett, what are you playing?
00:03:37
Speaker
I was playing a little Thrawn, and then I built a Krennic with Cunning, and I love it.
00:03:43
Speaker
Like, Krennic, just, he's a 2, like, you were saying, he's a 2-7.
00:03:47
Speaker
Like, he's hard to kill.
00:03:49
Speaker
You can't just, you can't just pop him.
00:03:53
Speaker
I mean, you can, and people do.
00:03:54
Speaker
Sure.
00:03:55
Speaker
Just that you keep, people pop Luke right away, people pop, you can pop anything.
00:03:58
Speaker
Right.
00:03:59
Speaker
But you can't take down, you can't vanquish.
00:04:01
Speaker
Like, you can't, you can't kill him out of hand, usually.
00:04:04
Speaker
Yeah, you can't,
00:04:06
Speaker
There's a lot of ways that Overwomen Garage doesn't get big enough to get him.
00:04:11
Speaker
Like, they need specific units.
00:04:12
Speaker
I mean, and he is sneaky, where it's like, he might not be the most threatening thing on your board.
00:04:19
Speaker
but he might be, but it's hard to say.
00:04:21
Speaker
I've been playing him control and it is oppressive.
00:04:25
Speaker
Cunning has oppressive cards.
00:04:27
Speaker
That's kind of a thing.
00:04:29
Speaker
That's interesting.
00:04:31
Speaker
So you're playing him with Cunning and I think kind of segwaying into the tournament that happened, everybody's talking about how green villain, everybody's in green villain.
00:04:44
Speaker
What makes you want to play Cunning over
00:04:46
Speaker
the overwhelming barrage super laser technician.
00:04:51
Speaker
I'm more mid-range controlly than I am ramp.
00:04:54
Speaker
That's just who I am.
00:04:57
Speaker
I like, yeah, I like waylay.
00:05:00
Speaker
I like limiting your options.
00:05:05
Speaker
Waylay works well.
00:05:05
Speaker
I'm still kind of, I'm not great on waylay in general.
00:05:09
Speaker
Like, I feel like a lot of times I just sit on it and like, I don't know when this is the right time to play this.
00:05:12
Speaker
Cause a lot of time I feel like I'm losing value just playing it.
00:05:17
Speaker
Yeah, you definitely want to play it on something more expensive than it is.
00:05:21
Speaker
Yeah, but I want to, yeah.
00:05:24
Speaker
I'm fine trading costs with it.
00:05:28
Speaker
Yeah, I mean, that's fair.
00:05:30
Speaker
I think a lot of the mistake that people make with Weylai is you're waiting for their bomb to Weylai.
00:05:36
Speaker
And I think if you can get it out early, like if you can bounce something early and just wreck someone's board state on like turn three, it can have huge impacts.
00:05:49
Speaker
Yeah, it's more like I just want to get ahead on the board in some way and I don't always feel like waylay is getting me there.
00:05:55
Speaker
But sometimes it can.
00:05:58
Speaker
Yeah, it's hard to see the value of like the downstream repercussions of if you waylay their creature or
00:06:05
Speaker
creature their unit and you get like you're gonna get like board control of some extent like how much extra value does that get you versus essentially they get the card back so i don't know i'm kind of with garrett like i i think you could in the right deck play it like round three round four gets you a solid board control and like you just kind of push some damage through and then if you get to another way or cunning or something even better
00:06:32
Speaker
It's not really good versus aggro, though.
00:06:34
Speaker
It's just too slow.
00:06:36
Speaker
Yeah, that is a problem.
00:06:38
Speaker
Too slow.
00:06:39
Speaker
Yeah, the value is not there.
00:06:41
Speaker
If, like, I'll pay three to bounce your two costs, they're like, okay, I'll put it back out, and it's cheap.
00:06:49
Speaker
And you paid more resources to put it back in my hand than it cost me to play it.
00:06:54
Speaker
What stuff was I playing?
00:06:56
Speaker
I was a guest on Late Night.
00:07:00
Speaker
uh the late night uh stream on a saturday last week uh i i kind of i don't know i bounced around a few different things um we played a lot of thron and thron like hasn't been that impressive i think in general is the feeling i got there um but of course he was like new so of course we're gonna play a lot of them um
00:07:21
Speaker
What else did I play?
00:07:23
Speaker
Uh, I did my Sabine aggro in blue, lost a very close game.
00:07:27
Speaker
I still, I'm still a believer in Sabine aggro with security complex.
00:07:31
Speaker
Um, she just didn't get there.
00:07:34
Speaker
And I did the Vader removal deck again, which I still really like.
00:07:37
Speaker
And it got some, it has a really, has it gotten many new cards?
00:07:41
Speaker
Uh, it's got a really good one coming up that we got previewed in France.
00:07:46
Speaker
Um, Oh yeah.
00:07:48
Speaker
Love to go right in there.
00:07:49
Speaker
Yeah.
00:07:49
Speaker
The Avenger, uh,
00:07:51
Speaker
It's like, perfect.
00:07:53
Speaker
Like, give me the curve of like Count Dooku, Palpatine, and Avenger at the top end.
00:07:57
Speaker
Be like, every one of my units is huge and killing your stuff when it comes into play.
00:08:02
Speaker
So just got to get there.
00:08:06
Speaker
I actually... Speaking of like Red Blue, I saw Garbage Rollers put up a video that was actually running Red Krennic.
00:08:13
Speaker
So even they're coming onto it now, it seems.
00:08:16
Speaker
Spoiler, scene one.
00:08:18
Speaker
Red Krennic, yeah.
00:08:20
Speaker
I do like Red Krennic.
00:08:22
Speaker
I don't know if I like it better than Double Command.
00:08:25
Speaker
I don't know if I like it over

Tournament Recap and Analysis

00:08:27
Speaker
the other ones, but it's cool that it's playable too.
00:08:31
Speaker
Yeah, Krennic's one of the best leaders.
00:08:33
Speaker
I don't know, if I saw my favorite leaders I've played over the past two weeks, Markin is up there.
00:08:41
Speaker
um krennic is up there and boba is up there and like i've seen people ask me like what what do you think the like three best leaders out there right now and i like say tarkin and boba and people are like yeah that makes sense and i'm like then i like krennic and they're like you're crazy i haven't seen as much tarkin around lately but i think that's just because he's been out since like forever now and
00:09:03
Speaker
He's a green villain.
00:09:04
Speaker
We know what he does.
00:09:06
Speaker
Krennic just encourages you to trade and then you get stronger for it.
00:09:11
Speaker
How do you not like that?
00:09:14
Speaker
I love Krennic.
00:09:15
Speaker
Love it.
00:09:17
Speaker
And then going on, what we've been playing, I think Nick alluded to it, but there was the first actual tournament for this game hosted on TTS.
00:09:30
Speaker
Shout out to, oh God, I forget his name.
00:09:33
Speaker
ran the tournament but uh they created a they created a new server for it and uh rish rish i don't know how to pronounce it but he ran a tournament on saturday i didn't get to participate but i'll be hopefully being able to participate in some of the future ones um and it was limited to 16 players so we only saw 16 decks and the breakdown was kind of interesting because i think there was like
00:09:59
Speaker
eight bobas like there was a lot of it was a lot of bobas yeah there were six bobas six bobas and most of them were green i think there's one red uh there was four sabines uh and then the rest was just like a mishmash of like there was like one vader one krennic i think it was actually only 14 too so it that was like most of the meta
00:10:22
Speaker
Yeah, no Tarkins.
00:10:24
Speaker
That was like the most surprising thing.
00:10:26
Speaker
Like, I knew people would be all up on Boba and friggin' Sabine, but nobody brought Tarkin, which seemed real weird to me.
00:10:34
Speaker
And then, yeah, the top four ended up being two Bobas, a Krennic, and a Vader, and the Vader ended up taking it all down.
00:10:45
Speaker
Thoughts?
00:10:46
Speaker
Garrett, what do you think?
00:10:48
Speaker
I mean, Vader's good.
00:10:50
Speaker
I don't think that's surprising to anybody.
00:10:52
Speaker
I'm people pretty surprised that Vader won.
00:10:56
Speaker
There was a lot of Vader is dead after they revealed No Good to Me dead.
00:11:02
Speaker
I definitely heard that.
00:11:03
Speaker
Vader's unplayable now.
00:11:04
Speaker
He still really could.
00:11:06
Speaker
I know.
00:11:08
Speaker
I don't know if he's going to end up being the best leader, but that ability, you have to account for it.
00:11:15
Speaker
It's damage every turn as long as they're playing for it.
00:11:20
Speaker
And then when he comes out, he's scary.
00:11:24
Speaker
He's still Vader.
00:11:27
Speaker
He's still going to be scary.
00:11:29
Speaker
FFG does not make a Star Wars game where Vader is not scary.
00:11:33
Speaker
It's just the way it is.
00:11:36
Speaker
Yeah, and I think people really, like, they saw the No Good to Me Dead, and they're like, oh, it kills Vader.
00:11:40
Speaker
But, like, I think with No Good to Me Dead, there's a problem, and we saw this in, like, the Top Cup videos, and I think they're pretty, like, they're out there somewhere if you want to rewatch them.
00:11:51
Speaker
But, like, if Vader versus Boba, like, keeps the board, like, even or empty, like, up to when Vader flips, playing No Good to Me Dead to, like, tap down a Vader while you have, like, no board to speak of doesn't feel great.
00:12:03
Speaker
It's like, yeah, Vader's exhausted, but
00:12:06
Speaker
But he's still there, and he's going to be back in two rounds.
00:12:09
Speaker
And you don't have a board.
00:12:10
Speaker
And he can still barrage off of him.
00:12:11
Speaker
He's still barrage off of him, too, which is huge.
00:12:15
Speaker
Barrage, lightsaber.
00:12:18
Speaker
Yeah, lightsaber on him, barrage on him.
00:12:20
Speaker
Yeah, that was interesting.
00:12:21
Speaker
I think looking at... It was Thor... Thorque?
00:12:24
Speaker
Thorque, I think, yeah.
00:12:26
Speaker
Oh, he's trying to pronounce people's names.
00:12:28
Speaker
Who was playing the deck.
00:12:30
Speaker
And, like, his list was interesting because he was running the full complement of three...
00:12:34
Speaker
fallen lightsabers and three Vader lightsabers, which I thought was interesting.
00:12:39
Speaker
Cause like, I don't know if you wanted to put like the only, they played, they locked in the list before fifth brother was spoiled.
00:12:49
Speaker
So he couldn't play fifth brother in the list.
00:12:51
Speaker
So like the fallen lightsaber kind of only worked on Vader, but I guess it's still kind of useful to like put on other stuff.
00:12:57
Speaker
Play it on stuff.
00:12:58
Speaker
Put it on a cell block guard.
00:12:59
Speaker
You get a six, six sentinel light.
00:13:02
Speaker
Yeah, that's probably fine.
00:13:04
Speaker
Sure.
00:13:04
Speaker
Use your no good to me down on my 6-6 Sentinel.
00:13:09
Speaker
Yeah.
00:13:09
Speaker
All right.
00:13:11
Speaker
And then the secret tech that I... I don't know if it's a secret tech.
00:13:15
Speaker
That might be giving it too much credit.
00:13:16
Speaker
But I think at least as far as Krennic and the Vader went, they were both running Green Villain.
00:13:22
Speaker
And both of them ran the three resupplies main deck.
00:13:26
Speaker
They weren't side deck, which...
00:13:28
Speaker
I think is a great call.
00:13:29
Speaker
Like if you think that the meta is going to be a lot of Boba, like, cause Boba Boba's whole thing is like, he's got a bunch of ways to punish you playing units.
00:13:39
Speaker
Like he's got like boss in the Boba unit and they're not like super efficient as just hitting your base.
00:13:46
Speaker
So like if you're running the resupplies, you can legit just take a turn off and resupply and Boba can't really punish you for it.
00:13:55
Speaker
not very efficiently.
00:13:57
Speaker
Boba starts punishing you after he comes out and has that big turn, if you have stuff for it to kill, and then the Firespray that comes... It's like 5 and 6 is when Boba really shines, because the Boba Deploy and Firespray are both pretty big.
00:14:13
Speaker
Yeah.
00:14:15
Speaker
Break points for it.
00:14:16
Speaker
But I guess there's a point, like, okay, so if Boba's, like...
00:14:20
Speaker
you know, 30, 40, 50% of the meta.
00:14:23
Speaker
What kind of decks do you play to be Boba?
00:14:25
Speaker
Do you guys got any suggestions?
00:14:27
Speaker
Like what should people try?
00:14:28
Speaker
I'll throw it to Nick.
00:14:29
Speaker
What would you do?
00:14:34
Speaker
I don't know.
00:14:34
Speaker
I haven't played against enough green Boba.
00:14:37
Speaker
Um,
00:14:39
Speaker
Like, I don't think a lot of that is still, like, topping out at, like, six mana.
00:14:43
Speaker
Like, I think, like, all those lists were pretty much topping out at, like, Gladiators and Firesprays, right?
00:14:49
Speaker
Like, none of them were trying to run the huge stuff.
00:14:52
Speaker
They weren't.
00:14:56
Speaker
They pretty much top out at Firespray.
00:14:58
Speaker
I wouldn't have felt bad taking Krennic into it.
00:15:01
Speaker
I don't know how Sabine would do against... I didn't watch too many Sabine versus Bobas.
00:15:07
Speaker
I didn't watch all the matches for that tournament.
00:15:12
Speaker
I don't like aggro, but Sabine still seemed like it wasn't a bad choice.
00:15:17
Speaker
Yeah, like, they didn't do great.
00:15:19
Speaker
I think only one Sabine made it out of their pod.
00:15:22
Speaker
The format of the event was kind of weird.
00:15:24
Speaker
It wasn't like straight Swiss.
00:15:25
Speaker
They ran, like,
00:15:27
Speaker
round robin pods and then like a winner would come out of a pod or something i don't i don't know how they did it but like i don't think any none of the sabines made it to the top four anyway okay what's it wasn't great for sabine um but yeah i do like the krennic yeah uh garrick did if if i had to beat boba do you have any insights
00:15:49
Speaker
I mean, control.
00:15:50
Speaker
Run low units and control, and you have to play a tempo game against Boba, because you kind of don't care that much about initiative, maybe, against Boba, because if they're going first, Boba's just going to be waiting until you attack, so you just have to play around that if you can.
00:16:10
Speaker
Run space, go a little bit heavier on the space side.
00:16:13
Speaker
I mean, they're going to run fire spray, but
00:16:16
Speaker
boba can't hit you can't hit your space units boss can but boba can't that's a good point outside of fire spray they don't have a lot of space and well and every boba is going to run in tie defenders as well yes tie defenders are a great card i was seeing a lot of bobas um
00:16:41
Speaker
the energy conversion lab on the free and tide offenders.
00:16:44
Speaker
It was doing work.
00:16:45
Speaker
I think that's also worth discussing, the fact that every deck took a 25 health base.
00:16:54
Speaker
Yes.
00:16:56
Speaker
There's been many debates on various places of will the 30 health bases be constructed viable or is everyone just going to take a 25 health base?

Deck Building and Health Base Debate

00:17:07
Speaker
First tournament,
00:17:08
Speaker
14 or whatever decks, everyone took a 25 health base.
00:17:11
Speaker
I don't know why you wouldn't.
00:17:13
Speaker
I mean... I think a 30 health base is definitely viable.
00:17:16
Speaker
I... I don't know why.
00:17:19
Speaker
The faster you are, the more likely you are to take a special base.
00:17:23
Speaker
Because if you know that you're going to be the aggressor in most of your matchups, I think that makes sense.
00:17:32
Speaker
If I'm playing a control deck, I mean...
00:17:34
Speaker
The only one that I really care about as a control deck is maybe energy conversion lab because it's the only thing that that straight up gives you a good trade.
00:17:43
Speaker
I feel like on the board like that you control like the shield can be good, but you don't necessarily control when or how it gets removed.
00:17:54
Speaker
you're guaranteed to probably save four on your base with the cunning base.
00:18:00
Speaker
I mean, Jedha, if you're... Like, for my credit deck, I run Jedha, because that's just another... I mean, I probably would too.
00:18:09
Speaker
So, like, I've just... I've taken one of your four heavy hitters out of the round.
00:18:14
Speaker
He's done.
00:18:15
Speaker
Well, let's put it this way.
00:18:16
Speaker
So, like, if red's going to be a control-ish color for villain as an option, and I want to run...
00:18:25
Speaker
Krennic with red, I'm not taking Tarkintown, most likely.
00:18:29
Speaker
Like, I don't... Tarkintown can be fine, but... I might need the health.
00:18:36
Speaker
I don't know.
00:18:37
Speaker
It's not on everything.
00:18:38
Speaker
I don't think it's going to be auto-included in every deck.
00:18:41
Speaker
At least not for me.
00:18:42
Speaker
Tarkintown with Krennic sounds good, though, because you can drop a Death Trooper into Tarkintown.
00:18:48
Speaker
You can trade and then use Tarkintown.
00:18:50
Speaker
That is true in the fact that Krennic does uniquely have some access to some units that are good at pinging like that.
00:18:58
Speaker
Yeah, I think an argument, at least for the 25 health bases, is that skilled... The blue one feels the worst to me.
00:19:05
Speaker
Yeah, but yeah, I was going to say skilled players are going to probably generally gravitate to whatever gives them the more options during the game over health.
00:19:15
Speaker
And that, I don't know, I think that tends to lead, like, you know, players towards the, like, I would rather, like, five health isn't necessarily worth as much as just having options.
00:19:26
Speaker
So, and that's what most of me... That's how much aggro's in the meta, too.
00:19:30
Speaker
If I'm playing a controlly deck, and there's a ton of aggro, and I can't sideboard my base, I might just need the extra health baseline.
00:19:37
Speaker
That's true.
00:19:38
Speaker
I mean, Krennic's also another good reason to run the 25 healths because he has that restore too.
00:19:43
Speaker
So like, you know, you're losing five up front, but he's getting you 10, maybe, maybe more.
00:19:51
Speaker
That would be really good if he got you 10.
00:19:55
Speaker
That's a lot.
00:19:56
Speaker
I need to see someone run like the super base health deck, run the 30 health base, run...
00:20:02
Speaker
Like Krennic, run the repairs.
00:20:04
Speaker
Oh, I like the idea of just like healing, healing, healing.
00:20:08
Speaker
Is it like the white deck essentially?
00:20:10
Speaker
You have to do 57 damage to defeat me.
00:20:12
Speaker
Good luck.
00:20:12
Speaker
Yeah, that does sound kind of awesome.
00:20:14
Speaker
So right now, the thing is like hero blue green is probably the best you got for that.
00:20:20
Speaker
So like you run like a loot with green and home one and Yoda and Kanan and all that.
00:20:25
Speaker
Like that has the most restore keywords right now.
00:20:30
Speaker
Yep.
00:20:32
Speaker
You can even run Vigilance.
00:20:34
Speaker
Yeah.
00:20:37
Speaker
I think Krennic might make an okay double blue deck in the end.
00:20:42
Speaker
I don't know that it's there now, but... I mean, we'll have to see what other double aspect cards there are, like, if there are any more in the set.
00:20:51
Speaker
Yeah.
00:20:52
Speaker
I assume there will be, but... Yeah, just have more blue stuff in general to fill out the curve.
00:20:57
Speaker
Like, we haven't seen everything.
00:21:00
Speaker
Like...
00:21:01
Speaker
That's the hard part of running the double aspect decks is just we have half a set and probably half of most of these aspects.
00:21:07
Speaker
And that's the thing that limits your card choices the most.
00:21:10
Speaker
Yeah.
00:21:12
Speaker
Yeah, but I don't know.
00:21:13
Speaker
I would say that the last thing, at least in regards to the tournament and just the games I played on Saturday with the late night crew is like, even for just having half the set, I'm like super impressed with like how many different decks there are out there to play.
00:21:26
Speaker
Like it's, it's not, not to like, you know, just,
00:21:32
Speaker
you know, pump the game's ego so much.
00:21:35
Speaker
Um, I don't know.
00:21:36
Speaker
Brown knows.
00:21:37
Speaker
I don't know what to call it.
00:21:38
Speaker
But anyway, I feel like the game is in a really awesome place already and it's only going to get awesomer as we get more cards.
00:21:45
Speaker
Like just by looking at the, like I look at my decks on SW UDB, SWDB.
00:21:52
Speaker
I'm like, I have like 10 decks and they all feel different with different leaders and we have half a set.
00:22:00
Speaker
That's similar.
00:22:00
Speaker
I agree.
00:22:02
Speaker
I mean, I think pretty much every leader right now is viable except maybe IG-88 and Terra, and that's just because we don't have the cards for them.
00:22:11
Speaker
I think Terra's more viable than freaking Grand Inquisitor.
00:22:15
Speaker
I don't know.
00:22:16
Speaker
Now that we have... Now that we got Fifth Brother or whatever... He's got one guy.
00:22:21
Speaker
He's got one card that's good with him, you know?
00:22:23
Speaker
He's better than zero.
00:22:25
Speaker
Ready to go.
00:22:27
Speaker
Yeah, that was something that came up on Late Night, too.

Game Meta and Card Analysis

00:22:30
Speaker
Two of the guys played the IG-88 versus Grand Inquisitor matchup, and Grand Inquisitor got absolutely smashed.
00:22:40
Speaker
There's a lot of shenanigans that you can pull off with it, though.
00:22:44
Speaker
I feel like if you have the right units.
00:22:45
Speaker
It's just we don't have the units...
00:22:48
Speaker
that pair with it yet.
00:22:49
Speaker
At least not with what I've seen.
00:22:50
Speaker
I don't know.
00:22:50
Speaker
Have people just been running grand inquisitor mono red most of the time?
00:22:54
Speaker
That also might be a problem.
00:22:55
Speaker
I don't know.
00:22:56
Speaker
Like, yeah, but you're right.
00:22:57
Speaker
He doesn't have enough stuff that he can use his ability on or, and then on top of that, like stuff that has like grit or like, you know, fifth brother's ability where like you feel good to use his ability on drop a, drop a light fallen lightsaber on the braggart and grand inquisitor is real good.
00:23:14
Speaker
Yeah.
00:23:15
Speaker
I mean, that's, I feel, too.
00:23:17
Speaker
No, that puts it out of range.
00:23:19
Speaker
It makes him four power, right?
00:23:20
Speaker
No, it's a zero.
00:23:21
Speaker
Oh, no, he's zero.
00:23:22
Speaker
Never mind.
00:23:23
Speaker
Okay, so he's got two combos.
00:23:26
Speaker
The Braggart with the lightsaber, and he's got frickin' fifth brother with his raid stuff.
00:23:33
Speaker
The Braggart with the lightsaber is actually kind of nasty, because that's a 10 damage round two.
00:23:40
Speaker
Yeah, he's got to live the dream.
00:23:41
Speaker
If you can pull it off, that's pretty good.
00:23:44
Speaker
Yeah, so you have two ways to lose.
00:23:45
Speaker
I don't know.
00:23:46
Speaker
Anyway, speaking of Fifth Brother, let's just move into the spoilers that we've seen.
00:23:52
Speaker
Let's start with the big daddy, the grandad, Admiral Thrawn, our new leader that we saw at the end of last week.
00:24:02
Speaker
He is... I didn't tell you guys.
00:24:04
Speaker
I'll put the cards in and post so people can see them.
00:24:07
Speaker
But he's a new leader.
00:24:09
Speaker
He's got the...
00:24:12
Speaker
Nobody thought he was going to be in cunning.
00:24:14
Speaker
He's in cunning.
00:24:15
Speaker
He's cunning villainy.
00:24:17
Speaker
He's not blue, sadly.
00:24:18
Speaker
He is blue, but he's not blue, if you get my drift.
00:24:24
Speaker
The start of the action phase, he gets to look at the top card of each player's deck, and then as an action, he can pay one and exhaust himself to reveal the top card of any player's deck and exhaust you at the cost of the same or less than the revealed card.
00:24:38
Speaker
He has a six resource flip,
00:24:40
Speaker
And then he is a big butted unit at a three power nine HP.
00:24:47
Speaker
Then when the action phase starts, you basically kind of get to do the same thing.
00:24:50
Speaker
You get to look at the seven to seven, the action phase, and then it's on attack.
00:24:53
Speaker
You can reel the top card, exhaust the unit.
00:24:56
Speaker
Garrett, what do you think of Thrawn?
00:24:59
Speaker
You've been playing him.
00:25:01
Speaker
I like him.
00:25:02
Speaker
I think he will benefit from something that punishes initiative because Thrawn is probably not going to have initiative most of the time.
00:25:12
Speaker
But he wants it too.
00:25:14
Speaker
I mean, you always kind of want initiative, but I think just based on Thrawn's ability, you kind of don't care.
00:25:25
Speaker
If you don't care about initiative with Thrawn, you're forcing them to attack with something first.
00:25:31
Speaker
if they think that they're going to get it locked down.
00:25:33
Speaker
That is a good point.
00:25:34
Speaker
The forcing, forcing them to attack, you still are kind of limiting your opponent's options by,
00:25:40
Speaker
I mean, I think Thrawn in this is going to be a lot like Thrawn in Destiny where you have to play a different game with him.
00:25:47
Speaker
Like, you have to... You're not playing the same game.
00:25:51
Speaker
You're playing the long game with Thrawn.
00:25:54
Speaker
You're playing the... I'm fine with this game going to turn 15.
00:25:58
Speaker
Because I'll just lock you down.
00:26:00
Speaker
I also just don't know what color he's going to pair with.
00:26:05
Speaker
That's like my big question.
00:26:06
Speaker
It's like...
00:26:07
Speaker
I don't know.
00:26:08
Speaker
He definitely doesn't seem like he has all the tools he needs to be as effective as I want him to be.
00:26:13
Speaker
And it's possible he might not be this set, too.
00:26:16
Speaker
It's possible that he just needs more set stuff.
00:26:19
Speaker
Honestly, blue... I mean, green's good for ramp.
00:26:23
Speaker
I think I've tried it mostly with green.
00:26:25
Speaker
But blue, I mean, there's the regional governor card we're seeing coming up that also pairs fairly well with Thrawn.
00:26:33
Speaker
And knowing people's hands...
00:26:36
Speaker
I've been running him with blue and mono, cunning.
00:26:42
Speaker
Yeah, I played him at least a game and I watched a lot of games on Saturday, and I feel like he wants to be in whatever color gets the board wipe.
00:26:51
Speaker
I don't know who it is, but...
00:26:54
Speaker
Like that's what not overwhelming barrage, like, like a more, a more definitive.
00:26:59
Speaker
I mean, right now I would probably play him in green because of overwhelming barrage, but I think his ability needs that.
00:27:06
Speaker
Like you're exhausting stuff, but you're not removing it.
00:27:10
Speaker
So you're stalling.
00:27:12
Speaker
But like, he, he needs that like payoff of like, what am I stalling to?
00:27:15
Speaker
I need to be able to like play something that like clears the board or locks it down.
00:27:20
Speaker
And like none of our end games are quite that good.
00:27:23
Speaker
Like the best thing we have is overwhelming barrage.
00:27:26
Speaker
But I think by the time you hit the point, like if you're expending resources into his leader side to tap, you know, to exhaust stuff down, like you need something that really like gives you the value back from your resources you've been spending.
00:27:41
Speaker
And like even overwhelming barrage feels like it comes up a little bit short sometimes.
00:27:46
Speaker
Um,
00:27:47
Speaker
Yeah.
00:27:48
Speaker
So I don't know.
00:27:48
Speaker
Like, I'm assuming like some color is going to get the just defeat every unit card.
00:27:55
Speaker
And that's what he wants.
00:27:56
Speaker
Like, he wants to stall into the board reset and then let's go from there.

Thrawn and Color Synergies

00:28:03
Speaker
I mean, I definitely want to see more big removal.
00:28:06
Speaker
That isn't just the one that we have.
00:28:10
Speaker
Even like a flamestrike from like Hearthstone is just like, pay seven, deal four to every enemy.
00:28:15
Speaker
I was like, that seems really good.
00:28:17
Speaker
Obviously it might not be those same stats, but just like something that's just like, yeah, just like doesn't have to be based on you.
00:28:23
Speaker
That seems like a red thing to me where like, I just want to deal damage to a bunch of stuff.
00:28:27
Speaker
Boom.
00:28:28
Speaker
Do it, right?
00:28:29
Speaker
Yeah.
00:28:30
Speaker
Red's a color.
00:28:30
Speaker
If you want to do it, you just do it.
00:28:32
Speaker
Yeah.
00:28:33
Speaker
Just give me the kill everything.
00:28:36
Speaker
If I just want you to die, just do it.
00:28:38
Speaker
Yeah, but I think that's something that, like, turns off, like, using Thrawn.
00:28:41
Speaker
Like, I think Thrawn's leader-side ability in the early rounds is, like, a trap.
00:28:47
Speaker
Like, without having that, like, I can't, like, on round two, three, four, like, it feels bad to pay a resource to tap something down.
00:28:57
Speaker
knowing that I don't have like any over the top thing to stall into.
00:29:01
Speaker
It's like, I'm just spending my resources and not controlling the board, like not getting the board control.
00:29:07
Speaker
Like, yeah, I'm tapping.
00:29:08
Speaker
You're not gaining the better position, but it's still there.
00:29:11
Speaker
Base health over actually regaining control of the board.
00:29:15
Speaker
Yeah.
00:29:16
Speaker
I'm going to keep playing smaller units, you know, but they're not getting me board control back.
00:29:23
Speaker
I think that's a problem.
00:29:24
Speaker
At least like it,
00:29:26
Speaker
with his leader side.
00:29:28
Speaker
It's just you can't use it early.
00:29:30
Speaker
It's a trap.
00:29:32
Speaker
It's late.
00:29:33
Speaker
Maybe after he flips and dies, you might be okay to use it.
00:29:37
Speaker
But early, it's just a mistake because under-dropping stuff just to get a tap off doesn't feel great.
00:29:43
Speaker
He combos so well with Boba, though.
00:29:47
Speaker
You exhaust your unit and then you hit it with Boba.
00:29:50
Speaker
Yeah, a little Boba.
00:29:51
Speaker
Yeah, it is very good with that.
00:29:55
Speaker
Yeah, no, that's fine.
00:29:57
Speaker
That's more midrange you play.
00:29:58
Speaker
I think that's the only way you can build him now.
00:30:03
Speaker
Which is also why I feel compelled to have Bossk at that deck too.
00:30:08
Speaker
I mean, as of now, I think you probably put that in all yellow villain.
00:30:10
Speaker
But it's like, man, if I can get Bossk to stick and I'm also running all these events and stuff, that gives me the damage.
00:30:18
Speaker
Yeah, I can exhaust your stuff, but maybe I can also swing back a little more with Bossk.
00:30:23
Speaker
Yeah, and I think that's the problem, though, is that once you get to the point where, like, I gotta play Thrawn midrange, you just go, why am I just not playing Boba?
00:30:31
Speaker
And, like, just expanding my midrange turns with more resources to do tricky things.
00:30:36
Speaker
Yeah.
00:30:38
Speaker
Anyway, moving on to the next card.
00:30:42
Speaker
What's on the Swoopy Bee?
00:30:44
Speaker
The Outer Rim Headhunter.
00:30:46
Speaker
Uh, not, not a super amazing card.
00:30:49
Speaker
It's a, it's a single aspect cunning, uh, space unit cost two.
00:30:54
Speaker
Uh, it is a one power three HP, but it has raid one and then has an ability of on attack.
00:30:59
Speaker
You can, if you control a leader unit, you may exhaust a non leader unit.
00:31:04
Speaker
Tack.
00:31:04
Speaker
What do you think of this one?
00:31:07
Speaker
It feels worse than the A-Wing.
00:31:11
Speaker
Because it dies to the A-Wing and can't kill it, but I mean... I immediately put it into my Sabine alongside the A-Wing.
00:31:18
Speaker
I mean, that's fair.
00:31:19
Speaker
If you're ready, you can kill the Sabine.
00:31:21
Speaker
Yeah, and Sabine, it also even makes the most sense because the ability is basically free if you have an early leader.
00:31:28
Speaker
That's going to come out.
00:31:29
Speaker
Like, just get a free exhaust just for using this.
00:31:34
Speaker
That does seem really good.
00:31:36
Speaker
I don't know who you're playing this in.
00:31:38
Speaker
I don't know that I really want to be putting this in a Thrawn deck.
00:31:41
Speaker
Maybe it's fine in a Boba.
00:31:45
Speaker
Yeah, maybe Boba.
00:31:46
Speaker
I definitely like my yellow Sabine immediately put it in.
00:31:49
Speaker
Because it's like, why not?
00:31:51
Speaker
That Sabine deck is, I think, about pretty much even ground and space units now.
00:31:56
Speaker
And the Outer Rim Headhunter with the early flips Sabine, like you said, it feels fine.
00:32:02
Speaker
If you're actually playing Yellow Krennic, I actually would put that in Yellow Krennic.
00:32:06
Speaker
That actually seems... Oh, this is actually a first spaceship that I think of that actually feels good.
00:32:12
Speaker
It kind of reminds me of the Ark, where it's actually a 2-3, basically, when it comes out, which is... Villa doesn't really have a lot of that.
00:32:20
Speaker
I run it in my Krennic.
00:32:22
Speaker
I don't have a lot of 1 and 2 costers in there, so it needed something.

New Cards and Strategic Implications

00:32:31
Speaker
Yep.
00:32:32
Speaker
Next card, the Regional Governor.
00:32:33
Speaker
This one's a fun card.
00:32:37
Speaker
Had a lot of fun discussions about it when it was spoiled.
00:32:40
Speaker
So it's a two-cost, single-aspect command unit, or single-aspect vigilance unit, ground unit, one power, four HP.
00:32:52
Speaker
When played, it's one of these fun things.
00:32:54
Speaker
You get to name a card, and while this unit's in play, opponents can't play the named card.
00:32:59
Speaker
And we had a clarification.
00:33:00
Speaker
I was actually wrong on my initial understanding of the ruling on this one.
00:33:04
Speaker
If you name, say, Luke Skywalker, they can't play any card named Luke Skywalker.
00:33:09
Speaker
That's really weird to me, still.
00:33:11
Speaker
It is.
00:33:13
Speaker
Not what I would have expected.
00:33:14
Speaker
That does not include a leader, though, right?
00:33:17
Speaker
No, that would be unfair.
00:33:18
Speaker
Leaders aren't played.
00:33:19
Speaker
They're deployed.
00:33:21
Speaker
So not super relevant until we get multiple copies.
00:33:24
Speaker
I don't expect we're getting multiple copies of...
00:33:28
Speaker
the same unit in this set.
00:33:30
Speaker
Like we've seen a unit and a leader, but I can't imagine when we see two units of the same thing in the, in the same, if, if, if we do, it's going to be Luke or Vader.
00:33:40
Speaker
That's true.
00:33:43
Speaker
So that is a weird rule.
00:33:44
Speaker
But when I read it, let's name a card.
00:33:47
Speaker
Like,
00:33:49
Speaker
I didn't think of name a name.
00:33:51
Speaker
I thought name a card.
00:33:53
Speaker
A card is a very specific thing.
00:33:55
Speaker
It does say name a card, not name a name.
00:33:57
Speaker
Yeah, like Luke Skywalker is not a... It could be the name of a card, but a card... If I'm identifying a specific card, Luke Skywalker does not identify which Luke Skywalker is.
00:34:10
Speaker
Just wait until we get the Luke Skywalker event, then you'll really be screwed.
00:34:16
Speaker
Luke Skywalker!
00:34:18
Speaker
Luke Skywalker event Luke Skywalker upgrade Luke Skywalker base yeah no like I reach I double reached out to Tyler after he posted his tweet just to check and he's like no that's the way it works um yeah I would like better wording on it but you know it is what it is you know they tell me how it works that's how it works um but yeah as far as like how to like
00:34:40
Speaker
Playing this, like, I really like this card, even right now.
00:34:44
Speaker
This seems like one of the best cards in the game to me.
00:34:47
Speaker
This is like, I like blue.
00:34:49
Speaker
This makes me like blue even more.
00:34:50
Speaker
This is like super cool.
00:34:52
Speaker
Like, two drop that says like, if I nail the thing that I'm most scared of and force you to attack it, like, I want to drop this against the beam and be like, surprise strike.
00:35:03
Speaker
None of that.
00:35:03
Speaker
None of that bullshit.
00:35:05
Speaker
None of that bullshit.
00:35:07
Speaker
It's got four health.
00:35:08
Speaker
It's not a pushover.
00:35:10
Speaker
If I make Sabine spend four health worth of damage on this thing, I feel great.
00:35:17
Speaker
yeah like the one attack the one power is the downside but it's an imperial and an official so tarkin yeah it's got super well with that whole thing yeah it works with tarkin works with krennic works with the emperor's royal guard like if you're just doing that curve where you're like i play this guy and then now my emperor's royal guard is the sentinel to protect it so you can't kill it and you still can't play that card like
00:35:44
Speaker
And if I get someone to burn their open fire on the regional governor just to get it off the board, that feels like a win because I'm getting the resource advantage.
00:35:55
Speaker
Yeah.
00:35:55
Speaker
I like it a lot.
00:35:57
Speaker
Yeah, even if you play that and then Sabine hits it on the second round with open fire, well, they didn't play a unit that round.
00:36:02
Speaker
They literally spent their entire round killing your thing.
00:36:05
Speaker
Yeah, and spent more resources than what you spent on the unit.
00:36:08
Speaker
They spent three for an open fire to kill a two-cost unit just so they could unlock the ability to play the card that you named.
00:36:15
Speaker
At the very least, it's a sideboard card.
00:36:18
Speaker
Yeah.
00:36:20
Speaker
I'm very compelled to put it in every blue deck.
00:36:23
Speaker
Just straight up.
00:36:25
Speaker
Yeah, I don't know.
00:36:25
Speaker
I think it has less synergy with the hero blue deck.
00:36:28
Speaker
I don't know about hero blue deck.
00:36:30
Speaker
That's possibly true.
00:36:31
Speaker
I mean, yes, it doesn't have the synergy because of the Imperial and stuff, but the actual ability is still... We don't have a hero leader that does... Krennic can synergize with just it having a big butt.
00:36:43
Speaker
and getting, you know, damaged when he gets the power.
00:36:47
Speaker
Tarkin synergizes with the Imperial.
00:36:50
Speaker
Doesn't synergize, obviously, with any Rebel thing.
00:36:52
Speaker
So, I don't know.
00:36:53
Speaker
I think it's obviously you're going to play it probably more in Imperials, less in, you know, villains, less in... Well, and, like, I think Luke, you, like... Luke can't shield it, sadly.
00:37:04
Speaker
He can't shield it, but... Shield it would be amazing.
00:37:07
Speaker
Well, he can shield it after he looks, I guess.
00:37:10
Speaker
you can play spark a rebellion.
00:37:12
Speaker
So, you know, what's in their hand and then play this thing.
00:37:16
Speaker
Name it.
00:37:17
Speaker
You and your villain.
00:37:18
Speaker
It also has probe droid, which, which helps too.
00:37:22
Speaker
Yep.
00:37:24
Speaker
Yeah.
00:37:25
Speaker
Target target or a thrown with probe droid and regional governor can hit a lot of what he wants.
00:37:34
Speaker
Um,
00:37:35
Speaker
Yeah, moving on to the next card.
00:37:37
Speaker
The Black One.
00:37:38
Speaker
This is Poe's ship.
00:37:40
Speaker
It's a six-cost, aggressive, heroic space unit.
00:37:48
Speaker
When played and when defeated, you can discard your hand, and if you do, you draw three cards.
00:37:53
Speaker
And for the rules clarification, you can discard an empty hand to draw three cards.
00:37:57
Speaker
I think we even got that confirmed.
00:37:59
Speaker
Yeah, that was in the Q&A.
00:38:01
Speaker
So, yeah.
00:38:03
Speaker
Tack, what do you think about the black one?
00:38:06
Speaker
I'm pretty not... I'm not very into that by default.
00:38:11
Speaker
Just 4-4 for 6 doesn't feel great.
00:38:14
Speaker
The card draw... The card draw isn't bad, but it doesn't really gain you a lot of tempo.
00:38:21
Speaker
It's a better body in space than it would be on ground.
00:38:26
Speaker
I haven't tried playing it yet.
00:38:28
Speaker
I definitely don't want to necessarily pull this as a legendary if I'm opening packs, because it's going to be, if it sees play, it's going to be very narrow.
00:38:37
Speaker
And by narrow, I mean like I think it's going to be in Han as of right now.
00:38:41
Speaker
Like I can see a red Han, burn your hand down, play this.
00:38:45
Speaker
That doesn't seem bad.
00:38:47
Speaker
I can actually see this feeling good in Han.
00:38:49
Speaker
And I can't really think of any other places where I'd actually really care.
00:38:52
Speaker
Sabine doesn't really want to be going up to six and then playing this when they could just be doing other stuff.
00:39:00
Speaker
Yeah, Garrett, what do you think?
00:39:03
Speaker
I think... It's a weird one.
00:39:05
Speaker
Because I like everything about it except the 4-4.
00:39:10
Speaker
Yeah.
00:39:11
Speaker
Yeah, agreed.
00:39:12
Speaker
But I think you can play it in a ramp deck since you're burning a bunch of cards already to get to there.
00:39:18
Speaker
Like Han does, kind of.
00:39:20
Speaker
Right.
00:39:21
Speaker
I mean, yeah.
00:39:22
Speaker
If you're running Han, you're probably... If you're running Han Red, you're running this, probably.
00:39:27
Speaker
But in a ramp deck,
00:39:29
Speaker
you're burning so many cards to get that.
00:39:32
Speaker
you're not going to have a big hand anyway by the time this comes out at six.
00:39:37
Speaker
And since it's coming out at six, it's, and you're probably getting there faster.
00:39:42
Speaker
It's probably not bad when you play it.
00:39:47
Speaker
I mean, when defeated, you get to do it as well.
00:39:49
Speaker
So it's, yeah, you could trade something and get three, four cards.
00:39:54
Speaker
So I don't know.
00:39:56
Speaker
It's fine.
00:39:57
Speaker
I don't particularly love it.
00:39:58
Speaker
I don't think it's,
00:40:00
Speaker
I think it's one of the weaker legendaries we've seen, but I don't hate it.
00:40:05
Speaker
I mean, I'm sure we're going to get a full on Imperial rebel synergy with resistance eventually.
00:40:13
Speaker
But like, you know, that's a card that I'll probably see better when it's like, Oh, let's just do a resistance deck with, Oh yeah.
00:40:20
Speaker
I don't know.
00:40:21
Speaker
Like lay a leader in resistance or something with that leader.
00:40:23
Speaker
Like, I'm sure we'll get some stuff like that.
00:40:25
Speaker
Like,
00:40:25
Speaker
The only thing that boosts it right now is Wedge, and you're probably not running Wedge at the moment.
00:40:31
Speaker
No.
00:40:33
Speaker
Yeah, it's something that people would be like, this feels like a top-end aggro card, but like Tack said, I kind of already want to have the game sewed up before I can play Black 1.
00:40:42
Speaker
Like, if I get to Round 5 and I can play Black 1 and draw three more cards that I'm hoping to play going into Round 6 as an aggro deck, I feel like I'm losing horribly already.
00:40:54
Speaker
I don't know.
00:40:56
Speaker
Yeah.
00:40:57
Speaker
And it is a little out of the red wheelhouse from what they kind of described.
00:41:00
Speaker
It's like they said that red hero is supposed to be more of the aggressive aggro-y cards, whereas red villain is more of the more control-y cards.
00:41:10
Speaker
I mean, that's obviously the archetypes, but like mace and black one aren't really aggro cards, you know, like,
00:41:16
Speaker
I know some people put Mason Sabine, but I don't see how that's really... I can see the connection with Black One where people will be like, it's to refill or regass up, maybe, but I just think ideally it's not something you want to do.
00:41:32
Speaker
There will be a deck that uses this well.
00:41:36
Speaker
I don't know what that deck is yet, but there will be one at some point.
00:41:41
Speaker
Yeah.
00:41:41
Speaker
I mean, there could be like an aggressively slanted mid range deck that is maybe using some like, you know, when you use a lot of like shoot first and snapshot reflexes and stuff like that, like you run out of cards quick.
00:41:56
Speaker
Like maybe this fits in there to just be like, I'm mid range and I'm going to refuel up and keep going.
00:42:02
Speaker
And like the middle turns.
00:42:03
Speaker
Cause I've been like, maybe I am using bamboozle that I pitched a card for and I need to make up that card advantage.
00:42:10
Speaker
Like,
00:42:10
Speaker
I think that's the deck that will fit this, but that's hard to imagine right now.
00:42:15
Speaker
It's not really aggro.
00:42:17
Speaker
It's like aggressive mid-range.
00:42:19
Speaker
Even then, it's hard to imagine if that deck's actually going to be a top-tier deck, which it just might never be.
00:42:25
Speaker
The problem is the Gladiator Star Destroyer and Fett's Fire Spray, and they're both six.
00:42:31
Speaker
Yeah, they both kicked the crap out of this thing.
00:42:34
Speaker
What do you do?
00:42:35
Speaker
If you play that and then they play that, it's like,
00:42:38
Speaker
Doesn't feel great to discard your hand again right after.
00:42:41
Speaker
Well, I mean, okay.
00:42:42
Speaker
So like even in an aggro deck, maybe you're like digging for reach.
00:42:46
Speaker
Like that's the other possibility.
00:42:47
Speaker
Like I'm going to play this, you know, draw three cards.
00:42:50
Speaker
Didn't get my reach, kill it, chuck those, draw three more, like try to get to my reach.
00:42:57
Speaker
I mean, it's really wing and a prayer stuff.
00:42:59
Speaker
Like, I don't know.
00:43:00
Speaker
I still don't think it makes a cut in aggro, but like I kind of see if it was five costs,
00:43:08
Speaker
maybe it would have been too good.
00:43:09
Speaker
Like, I wonder if it's like a granular, like a, a, a, falls on the wrong side.
00:43:16
Speaker
Everything's a granularity problem in the end.
00:43:18
Speaker
You need, you need to be doing like on a scale of one to 10,000 and you know, like differences of one piece to be like the most granular, but that would be absurd and uncanny in many ways.
00:43:29
Speaker
But, but yeah, anyway, moving on to that.
00:43:32
Speaker
Problem.
00:43:33
Speaker
Moving on to the next card, also not super impressive, sadly, the Chimera.
00:43:39
Speaker
This is Thrawn's Star Destroyer.
00:43:40
Speaker
That's what I'm most sad about.
00:43:43
Speaker
Yeah, this did make me sad, too.
00:43:46
Speaker
But it is an 8-cost cunning villainy unit, of course, to go with Thrawn.
00:43:51
Speaker
Space unit.
00:43:52
Speaker
It's a Star Destroyer, obviously.
00:43:54
Speaker
It is a hefty 8 power, 7 HP, and it has shielded, so it protects itself.
00:44:01
Speaker
But that's it.
00:44:02
Speaker
Then on attack, you can name a card and an opponent reveals their hand and discards a card with that name from it.
00:44:10
Speaker
Garrett, I think we're up to.
00:44:12
Speaker
What do you think of this one?
00:44:13
Speaker
I mean, I think it's good in Thrawn since you have hand knowledge already.
00:44:20
Speaker
Outside of that, I don't know if I like it very much.
00:44:24
Speaker
I don't know if I like it in Thrawn even.
00:44:27
Speaker
But Thrawn can play to eight resources because you play the stall game.
00:44:32
Speaker
And by the time you drop this, they shouldn't be able to deal with it if you're playing Thrawn correctly.
00:44:40
Speaker
You should be able to drop it, and they shouldn't have an answer for it if you're playing the Thrawn game that Thrawn wants to play.
00:44:51
Speaker
Yeah, I mean, that is the one slightly...
00:44:54
Speaker
redeeming thing about it, I think the people that have been bagging on it like a little too hard is...
00:45:00
Speaker
No, actually, if it was on play, it would be so much better, actually.
00:45:04
Speaker
Oh, yes, it would be.
00:45:05
Speaker
On attack is what makes it garbage.
00:45:09
Speaker
100%.
00:45:09
Speaker
If it was on played and on attack, or even just one time on played, it would be significantly more playable.
00:45:15
Speaker
Right, that's the thing.
00:45:16
Speaker
If it was on played and you could name, like, I'm going to play this and name Vanquish or Waylay or whatever the hell I'm afraid of that you might just instantly, like, you know, just take it out with.
00:45:26
Speaker
It'd be way better.
00:45:27
Speaker
But I can't do that.
00:45:28
Speaker
Like, you know, if you have some way to give it ambush, which would be like Piet.
00:45:32
Speaker
Is it?
00:45:33
Speaker
That's it.
00:45:34
Speaker
Piet and the Chimera, fine, but that's a 10 resource two card combo.
00:45:40
Speaker
Anyway.
00:45:41
Speaker
Yeah, no.
00:45:42
Speaker
I just, I think it's fine in Thrawn if you're playing the game that Thrawn wants to play.
00:45:47
Speaker
But like, if you're not using Thrawn, I don't,
00:45:52
Speaker
I don't know if you run it in Cunning because you shouldn't need it in Cunning at that point.
00:45:57
Speaker
No, it's way late game.
00:46:01
Speaker
I don't know.
00:46:02
Speaker
It's just really weird.
00:46:04
Speaker
On Played would have made it so much better.
00:46:06
Speaker
I mean, you probably played in Draft either way.
00:46:09
Speaker
Was that?
00:46:10
Speaker
I said I'd play it in Limited either way because it's just a big beefy thing you can't kill.
00:46:15
Speaker
Yeah, even in limited, we've got to see if we can get up to eight resources in limited.
00:46:19
Speaker
It feels like a lot.
00:46:21
Speaker
It helps.
00:46:22
Speaker
You hear like, I hope we can get to eight.
00:46:25
Speaker
Yeah, I guess that's the main thing.
00:46:27
Speaker
It's hard to play an eight cost anything that can't immediately impact the board in some way.
00:46:33
Speaker
It's not sentinel.
00:46:34
Speaker
It's not ambush.
00:46:36
Speaker
It doesn't have the ability that does anything.
00:46:39
Speaker
I don't even, like, that's the same... The Relentless, another big Star Destroyer, doesn't...
00:46:47
Speaker
It kind of affects play, and then it makes it so they can't remove it, but it also doesn't actually catch you up that early.
00:46:53
Speaker
I like Relentless.
00:46:54
Speaker
Yeah, it doesn't catch you up, but I like Relentless infinitely more because of the ability to shut down events does affect the board immediately.
00:47:03
Speaker
It does.
00:47:05
Speaker
I mean, of the four Star Destroyers that are... Right, four?
00:47:09
Speaker
There's four now?
00:47:10
Speaker
This is the worst?
00:47:10
Speaker
Revenator, Chimera, Relentless... Avenger.
00:47:14
Speaker
Avenger.
00:47:16
Speaker
This is the worst.
00:47:17
Speaker
This is the worst.
00:47:19
Speaker
And it's sad because Thrawn's the best.
00:47:22
Speaker
And it's the worst because it literally has no impact when you play it, I think is the big thing.
00:47:26
Speaker
Like Relentless, you know, if you're going against the other control deck or the other deck that's had a lot of events, like that's super impactful.
00:47:36
Speaker
Like that's the one thing that the Vader green deck and the credit green deck, when they both went to Relentless, and if you dropped Relentless versus Boba,
00:47:44
Speaker
You kind of win.
00:47:45
Speaker
Very sad.
00:47:47
Speaker
Because he's like, all of my tricks are events.
00:47:51
Speaker
Can't get rid of this guy.
00:47:53
Speaker
I can't no good to me dead him.
00:47:54
Speaker
I can't waylay him.
00:47:57
Speaker
He's going to hit me in the face.
00:47:58
Speaker
Yeah, anyway.
00:48:03
Speaker
Chimera, sad.
00:48:05
Speaker
Moving on to the next one.
00:48:07
Speaker
Tiny card.
00:48:07
Speaker
Patrolling V-Wing.
00:48:09
Speaker
Two cost green.
00:48:11
Speaker
very tiny man yeah unit the space unit one one when played draw a card god i heard i don't know if this is anything other than like limited filler but what do you think garrett uh yeah it's yeah you get a card out of it so like it's not awful and it's still a body in space but like he'll swing leader
00:48:35
Speaker
Yeah.
00:48:36
Speaker
Does kill the wing.
00:48:37
Speaker
I mean, I think for two, I'm, I'm playing a tie fighter or, or the headhunter.
00:48:42
Speaker
Like, I don't, I think it's a card looking for a deck though.
00:48:46
Speaker
I don't straight up hate.
00:48:47
Speaker
Like, yeah, I hate it with what we have, but like, I think I put this on discord.
00:48:51
Speaker
Like if we get stuff to combo it with, like, if I just get stuff that I don't care how big my unit is, I just want a unit.
00:48:59
Speaker
and like i can do stuff that like defeat a unit to do something or maybe i can yeah surprise strike it into something that isn't a bad play but like that's the kind of stuff it's looking for and we don't really have that yeah yeah it doesn't have a home yet i'm not outright like ruling it out it just doesn't i'm not excited about it if that makes sense
00:49:23
Speaker
Yeah.
00:49:23
Speaker
I need to buy like kamikaze your ship into something kind of thing.
00:49:26
Speaker
Like then we're looking at something.
00:49:28
Speaker
Maybe we can play.
00:49:31
Speaker
Um, and I'll just move on to the way more exciting fifth brother, uh, three costs, aggression, villainy unit,
00:49:39
Speaker
ground unit obviously it's a two four it is a force unit which is notable at least for villains because they've been lacking force yeah the force stuff um its text is this unit gets raid one for each damage on him so it's kind of like grit but only while attacking um and then on attack you can deal one damage to him and deal one damage to another ground unit uh texture give me your thoughts on the fifth brother
00:50:08
Speaker
When I first saw him, I was a little like... It's hard to feel like he's a math-heavy card, just to figure out where's the value with this guy.
00:50:18
Speaker
I think he's really good.
00:50:19
Speaker
My first impression was, I'm not sure where he is, just because he's got Yoda stats, baseline, but he doesn't restore, he doesn't draw you a card when he dies.
00:50:32
Speaker
If you play this guy out, and he gets traded into on the round that you play him,
00:50:38
Speaker
That's bad.
00:50:38
Speaker
He's not killing anything and he just feels bad.
00:50:41
Speaker
He's like just bad.
00:50:44
Speaker
But like he actually gets the tax off.
00:50:48
Speaker
He's going to punch up for sure.
00:50:50
Speaker
Like baseline he punches for four essentially.
00:50:53
Speaker
Right.
00:50:54
Speaker
Yep.
00:50:54
Speaker
That's four.
00:50:55
Speaker
Yeah.
00:50:56
Speaker
Four.
00:50:56
Speaker
Five.
00:50:58
Speaker
Right.
00:51:00
Speaker
Wait.
00:51:00
Speaker
Too late.
00:51:03
Speaker
So it's one.
00:51:04
Speaker
If you get Krennic, it's five.
00:51:06
Speaker
Five and Krennic.
00:51:08
Speaker
Five and Krennic.
00:51:09
Speaker
Good point there.
00:51:11
Speaker
Which actually is not bad.
00:51:12
Speaker
And it's the first thing that actually plays well with Grand Inquisitor.
00:51:20
Speaker
So you play him out, you deal two damage to him with Grand Inquisitor, ready him, attack with him.
00:51:27
Speaker
Now you're at a six, seven, or eight.
00:51:31
Speaker
So this is math.
00:51:33
Speaker
Two plus three plus one.
00:51:35
Speaker
You get them up to five.
00:51:38
Speaker
Six total damage.
00:51:39
Speaker
Yeah.
00:51:40
Speaker
You do six.
00:51:41
Speaker
Yeah.
00:51:41
Speaker
Or you get your base.
00:51:43
Speaker
Or five to base and one to a unit or something like that.
00:51:48
Speaker
He's cool.
00:51:49
Speaker
It seems like something as of right now.
00:51:52
Speaker
We just don't have a lot that fits in that slot for Villain Red.
00:51:55
Speaker
As of now, it's like, yeah, I think every Villain Red is putting him in the game.
00:52:00
Speaker
I would.
00:52:01
Speaker
He's the best thing we have.
00:52:03
Speaker
A 2-4 for 3 is still pretty solid.
00:52:08
Speaker
Yeah, I think even Thork mentioning his Vader deck, he's like, if he could have, he would have had this.
00:52:13
Speaker
There are three copies.
00:52:13
Speaker
Oh, yeah, yeah.
00:52:16
Speaker
He trades evenly with Ezra.
00:52:19
Speaker
Yep.
00:52:22
Speaker
Yeah, and you can throw Fallen Lightsaber on him.
00:52:28
Speaker
Or any of the 3-4s.
00:52:29
Speaker
Yeah, that is also kind of the first cheap target.
00:52:33
Speaker
Full text.
00:52:36
Speaker
It binds on him.
00:52:39
Speaker
If you're in blue, he deals damage to himself, and then you can heal it and throw it at other stuff because he's also a Force unit.
00:52:47
Speaker
I still think we need a few more cheaper force people before I start running at Binds and Villain.
00:52:55
Speaker
Yeah.
00:52:56
Speaker
No, that's for sure.
00:52:57
Speaker
But he's one step closer.
00:52:59
Speaker
I imagine there's other Inquisitors we're going to see.
00:53:03
Speaker
Hopefully.
00:53:04
Speaker
Fingers crossed.
00:53:05
Speaker
Yeah.
00:53:07
Speaker
um yes moving on to the next card snapshot reflexes uh it's a one cost yellow upgrade cunning upgrade just single cunning aspect it's a plus one plus one plug one power plus one hp and then when played you can just attack with the attached unit pretty simple garrett what do you think of the snapshot reflexes
00:53:27
Speaker
Great tempo card.
00:53:28
Speaker
I mean, getting a plus one plus one for one is already good and getting to attack at the same time is even better.
00:53:36
Speaker
It's shitty.
00:53:37
Speaker
Shoot first.
00:53:38
Speaker
It's shitty.
00:53:39
Speaker
It's a shoot first that stays around.
00:53:42
Speaker
It's not actually bad.
00:53:43
Speaker
I think it's a cool card.
00:53:44
Speaker
It's a slightly different niche than Shoot First, but it feels kind of similar.
00:53:51
Speaker
A little bit of reach, a little bit of tempo, a little bit of awesome artwork, because the artwork is really good on that.
00:53:57
Speaker
I love that shot of Mando.
00:53:59
Speaker
And I like to see Mando on the card.
00:54:02
Speaker
Yeah.
00:54:03
Speaker
Which people mentioned.
00:54:04
Speaker
We haven't seen Mando on any other card.
00:54:07
Speaker
Yeah, he looks dope in that.
00:54:09
Speaker
I know.
00:54:09
Speaker
Some of you are like, what?
00:54:10
Speaker
Mando was out before they designed it?
00:54:13
Speaker
I was like, you guys, Mandalorian released in November of 2019.
00:54:16
Speaker
It was out way before they started designing this game.
00:54:21
Speaker
There's going to be probably more Mando stuff in the art and other things that we see for sure.
00:54:28
Speaker
I do really like Snapshot Reflexes, though my motivation is I just want to put all the immediate attack stuff to combine with Ezra.
00:54:37
Speaker
just so I can hit it all off the top.
00:54:39
Speaker
Like, give me the snapshots, give me the surprise strikes, give me the friggin' fleet lieutenants, give me the shoot first.
00:54:47
Speaker
I mostly, the only reason I don't like it is because I don't want to play against it in aggro.
00:54:52
Speaker
Right.
00:54:53
Speaker
I run this in my Krennic deck.
00:54:58
Speaker
My Krennic Cunning.
00:54:59
Speaker
I have two of them in there.
00:55:00
Speaker
I like it in Krennic.
00:55:01
Speaker
The health increase gives you greater chance to... Health increase does help.
00:55:05
Speaker
Get that plus the tempo.
00:55:08
Speaker
I like putting it on a Death Trooper.
00:55:10
Speaker
I think it's fun.
00:55:11
Speaker
It seems fine, for sure.
00:55:13
Speaker
Yeah, I don't know.
00:55:15
Speaker
A lot of people were cold on this card, but I still kind of like it.
00:55:18
Speaker
I think I immediately in my Sabine yellow, I took out the Infiltrator skills and put in the Snapshots.
00:55:27
Speaker
I mean, it might be like a sideboard thing where like, if I'm playing a lot of Sentinel, I'd rather have it.
00:55:31
Speaker
So without Sentinel, it's just, it is just better, but.
00:55:33
Speaker
Yeah.
00:55:34
Speaker
If there's no Sentinels, yeah, it's just better than Infiltrator skill.
00:55:38
Speaker
I really liked Infiltrator skill.
00:55:41
Speaker
So I don't know.
00:55:44
Speaker
Uh, next car, Bamboozle.
00:55:47
Speaker
Uh, this was really interesting car.
00:55:48
Speaker
It was a two cost event that's in, uh, cunning heroism.
00:55:53
Speaker
Uh,
00:55:54
Speaker
Its text says you can discard a cunning card from your hand instead of playing this event's cost.
00:56:00
Speaker
And then the text says exhaust a unit and return each upgrade on it to its owner's hand.
00:56:06
Speaker
Notably, rules-wise, a villain deck could run this and discard a yellow card to play it for free so that they wouldn't have to play it as a loyalty.
00:56:13
Speaker
Oh, that's a good point.
00:56:15
Speaker
I didn't even think about that part.
00:56:16
Speaker
Which is kind of it.
00:56:17
Speaker
Yeah, the villain deck would have to pay four to play it if they're in yellow, but...
00:56:23
Speaker
Yeah, but you're going to have a ton of yellow cards if you're running mono-yellow villain.
00:56:27
Speaker
And you have... Mono-yellow villain, right now then, has...
00:56:33
Speaker
this for if you play with this for free, essentially by the discard, you have this, you have asteroid sanctuary, you have no good to be dead and you have cunning.
00:56:42
Speaker
That's 12 cards of your deck that just exhaust stuff for super cheap.
00:56:47
Speaker
Like that's that's going to be really annoying to sit across from.
00:56:51
Speaker
I obviously like it is a card and
00:56:54
Speaker
there is going to need to be able to do other stuff other than just exhaustion units and not do the other, the other rules note, like shield and experience tokens just, uh, get set aside too.
00:57:05
Speaker
So it's like basically saying, yeah, that is all shields and experience tokens from whatever you hit with this as well.
00:57:12
Speaker
Uh, which leads to my, like a little, I think I pointed this out in the discord.
00:57:15
Speaker
It's kind of thematic that the bamboozle with that art, like totally hoses Lieutenant Chilton, which was the,
00:57:22
Speaker
cell block oh is he is that who he actually is he's the cell block dude yeah yeah lieutenant children's like the cell block dude in there when han shows up so it's like you're like i'm doing my chiltzen with all these xp tokens and you're like bamboozle chuck them all off yeah that's sick we're good here how are you we're good here how are you it's funny yeah garrett did you have any thoughts on bamboozle
00:57:47
Speaker
I think it's fine.

Card Strategies and Usage

00:57:50
Speaker
I like the idea of putting it in a villain deck.
00:57:53
Speaker
Because most people aren't going to see it coming.
00:57:58
Speaker
And I think bouncing upgrades is just... If you're playing for tempo, this is a good tempo card.
00:58:03
Speaker
Of course, the upgrades we have right now, you might not want to bounce them sometimes.
00:58:08
Speaker
Like Snapshot.
00:58:11
Speaker
Or Luke's Lightsaber or Vader's Saber.
00:58:14
Speaker
You're probably not wanting to bounce those.
00:58:16
Speaker
Yeah.
00:58:17
Speaker
But, you know, as we get more upgrades that we'll see more frequency of, I think it will get better.
00:58:22
Speaker
Yeah, I think it's good.
00:58:24
Speaker
Do you ever run it instead of asteroid sanctuary?
00:58:28
Speaker
Or is it like always in addition to, I definitely like the sidebar idea.
00:58:32
Speaker
Cause it's like, if they're running upgrades or like even better, if they're like a Tarkin deck, like, Oh yeah, I'll just put this in here to just like nuke down their value.
00:58:41
Speaker
I mean, I would probably, in a hero deck, I'm probably running that.
00:58:45
Speaker
I'm definitely putting it on the sideboard, but I'm probably running that over Asteroid.
00:58:49
Speaker
It's just a matter of, like, how valuable is the shield versus just the possibility of playing it for free.
00:58:57
Speaker
Yeah.
00:58:59
Speaker
I mean, if you know you're playing against a lot of Sampdorys.
00:59:02
Speaker
People play Asteroid Sanctuary without getting the shield plenty of times just because when you need it, you need it.
00:59:08
Speaker
When you need to sit Vader down, you've got to sit Vader down and it doesn't really matter.
00:59:11
Speaker
You're going to take what you can get.
00:59:13
Speaker
I like Bamboozle and the aggro mirror.
00:59:18
Speaker
I think it's very tech there.
00:59:20
Speaker
If you're both aggroing and you can be like, I will just use my extra cards to make sure I'm ahead of the race without having to spend resources.
00:59:29
Speaker
And Sabine does run wing leaders.
00:59:31
Speaker
So if you're running against other Sabine and take their wing leader value away, that can be like crippling.
00:59:40
Speaker
Yep.
00:59:41
Speaker
And I'm moving on to the next card, the metal ceremony.
00:59:45
Speaker
Um, this is an event that is heroism only, uh, single heroes, mass spec zero.
00:59:51
Speaker
It's free.
00:59:51
Speaker
This is for zero cost card.
00:59:53
Speaker
We've seen, uh, it's,
00:59:55
Speaker
Text says, give an experience token to each of up to three rebel units that have attacked this phase.
01:00:06
Speaker
Man, the art is also great on this one because Chewie is just so damn sad.
01:00:10
Speaker
He's just like, damn it.
01:00:12
Speaker
Chewie still doesn't do his award.
01:00:16
Speaker
Which is funny because he doesn't have the rebel trait.
01:00:21
Speaker
but uh great sabine it's great to be in card yeah i mean sabine's mostly running light rebels yeah is it win more though that was my immediate question like if i get to a point where i have attacked with like two or three rebels and they're still alive
01:00:42
Speaker
Like, am I not just, like, probably super winning that game?
01:00:45
Speaker
Not necessarily.
01:00:46
Speaker
I mean, I don't know.
01:00:47
Speaker
In the big swing turn, where it's just like, I need to stick a little bit more damage going into, like, the last round.
01:00:56
Speaker
I think if you get two off of it, and you are already going to be behind on, like, the initiative...
01:01:04
Speaker
I mean, that one extra health they're each getting could be big too, because that's going to slow down them trying to take out your board.
01:01:15
Speaker
Yeah, I don't know.
01:01:16
Speaker
I have to try it, so... But that was my initial thought.
01:01:18
Speaker
Like, yeah, Sabine and, like, Leia... I mean, it's definitely an aggro card.
01:01:23
Speaker
I mean, I don't see how you're ever really going to get value out of it in anything else.
01:01:27
Speaker
I just don't... Eh, I could see it in...
01:01:32
Speaker
We have a lot of big butt Sentinel Rebels.
01:01:37
Speaker
Do we have that?
01:01:39
Speaker
We have Vigilant Honor Guards.
01:01:42
Speaker
I don't know.
01:01:44
Speaker
There's some.
01:01:45
Speaker
There could be more.
01:01:47
Speaker
It could be a weird Control Dead kind of thing.
01:01:50
Speaker
That's a good point.
01:01:52
Speaker
I would definitely want to give Bright Hope an XP.
01:01:54
Speaker
Yeah.
01:01:56
Speaker
A 3-7 Sentinel sounds real nice.
01:02:00
Speaker
Yeah, there's a thing where if you have the Sentinels, you can ignore their units and just go to their base, and then they have to attack into units and you're still alive.
01:02:08
Speaker
You're like, ah, I'm even bigger, and still going to your base.
01:02:12
Speaker
I mean, if a Hera deck is doing exactly what it wants to do, it's going to have multiple Rebels on the board.
01:02:18
Speaker
It's going to Hera probably like that.
01:02:21
Speaker
I try to do it in Hera.
01:02:24
Speaker
I question whether Hera is going to be able to have the board it wants or needs to to win games.
01:02:29
Speaker
That is the question.
01:02:32
Speaker
Yep.
01:02:33
Speaker
Anyway, on to the last two spoilers.
01:02:35
Speaker
We actually aren't on the DB yet, but we're going to talk about them anyway because we know about them and they are on the Discord.
01:02:43
Speaker
Both of these were at whatever... I don't even know what the French event is.
01:02:48
Speaker
But we saw...
01:02:51
Speaker
I don't know what the translation of the title is.
01:02:54
Speaker
It's called... Saber Laser Jedi.
01:02:56
Speaker
Yeah, the Saber Laser Jedi.
01:02:59
Speaker
Jedi Lightsaber, I'm guessing.
01:03:02
Speaker
Most likely.
01:03:05
Speaker
assumption it's a it's a upgrade that is in vigilance heroism cost three it's essentially the counterpart of the fallen lightsaber is what we're looking at so it's it's not unique it gives plus three power plus three hp you can put the upgrade on a non-vehicle unit just like the fallen lightsaber
01:03:24
Speaker
And then the text says, if attached unit is a force unit, it gains the ability that on attack, give minus two, minus two to the defender for this phase.
01:03:38
Speaker
So yeah, it's like the fallen lightsaber.
01:03:40
Speaker
It can only hit the unit that you attack where it's like fallen lightsaber does like the damage to each ground unit.
01:03:45
Speaker
This is essentially just making your, your force guy good at taking out units.
01:03:51
Speaker
I think is the thing here.
01:03:54
Speaker
Um,
01:03:55
Speaker
throw it to Garrett.
01:03:57
Speaker
What do you think of it?
01:03:59
Speaker
I like it.
01:04:00
Speaker
I mean, I don't know how you can't like this one.
01:04:03
Speaker
It's, it just can neutralize something even if you don't kill it.
01:04:07
Speaker
Like, which is like, if you're getting plus three, plus three on something, you're hitting hard and it's saving you damage as well.
01:04:16
Speaker
Like, it's just a good card.
01:04:18
Speaker
We've got a lot of targets on the hero side to play this on.
01:04:21
Speaker
Yes.
01:04:22
Speaker
I definitely feel this feels way better than Fallen Lightsaber.
01:04:27
Speaker
Just right up to me.
01:04:28
Speaker
Especially because doing a lot of damage to a lot of weenie things feels worse than just killing the big threat.
01:04:39
Speaker
I mean, you put this on somebody and an evader is very, very vulnerable.
01:04:46
Speaker
I like it on Yoda a lot, too.
01:04:49
Speaker
yeah let's we got yoda we got ezra ezra we got obi-wan we got luke actually on the flip like it's like you have everything from three to to six yeah there's so so many good targets i don't even know if i'm forgetting something but yeah no that's the main stuff
01:05:10
Speaker
the main stuff mace you can put this on mace that's what i was forgetting which is real funny when you're like i'm gonna make your unit like not do damage to me so i can just like ready and clear your board yeah it'll actually kill your board at that point yeah actually clear your board without trading um yeah interesting note that i think that the big uh debate when this was released is like everyone was saying is why is the generic non-unique lightsabers why do they feel better than luke invader's lightsaber
01:05:41
Speaker
You think that's a thing?
01:05:44
Speaker
Yes and no.
01:05:45
Speaker
I mean, it depends.
01:05:46
Speaker
Because Luke and Vader's are cheaper.
01:05:49
Speaker
And if you put it on Luke or Vader, they're great.
01:05:52
Speaker
Yeah.
01:05:54
Speaker
Because it is Luke or Vader's lightsaber.
01:05:56
Speaker
Like, it makes thematic sense.
01:05:59
Speaker
Yeah, there's definitely some weird math where I think you're okay with Fallen Lightsaber or the Jedi Lightsaber just throwing it on
01:06:08
Speaker
almost any old unit, like, you can get the card value out of it.
01:06:12
Speaker
Yeah.
01:06:12
Speaker
Luke's invaders are kind of not great unless it's specifically Luke or Vader.
01:06:17
Speaker
Like, you're playing them.
01:06:18
Speaker
Yeah.
01:06:19
Speaker
That's pretty true.
01:06:22
Speaker
And, I mean, that math will change a lot, too, if we actually get Luke and Vader units, because then you have more targets for them in those decks.
01:06:29
Speaker
Yeah, for sure.
01:06:30
Speaker
I definitely can't wait in my aggro blue Sabine to be able to flip Sabine and give her a lightsaber.
01:06:37
Speaker
And,
01:06:39
Speaker
Is it a spoiler alert to say up to a couple months ago that that would have been weird, but now it's not?
01:06:45
Speaker
Do what?
01:06:47
Speaker
To flip Sabine and give her the Jedi lightsaber?
01:06:52
Speaker
Yeah, canonically, yes.
01:06:55
Speaker
Canonically, it's fine now.
01:06:56
Speaker
But if you asked me three months ago, I'd have been like, it's weird that putting the Jedi lightsaber on Sabine after I flip her is good, but it is.
01:07:06
Speaker
Now it's thematic.
01:07:09
Speaker
Weird how that turns out.

Conclusion and Holiday Wishes

01:07:11
Speaker
Then the other spoiler, the more exciting, I don't know, they were both really damn exciting, but the other one that I think I was more excited for was the Avenger.
01:07:23
Speaker
It is a big old villain vigilance Star Destroyer.
01:07:29
Speaker
Costs nine.
01:07:31
Speaker
It has eight power and eight HP, and its text says, when played and on attack,
01:07:39
Speaker
An opponent chooses a non-leader unit they control and defeat that unit.
01:07:47
Speaker
Nick, what do you think?
01:07:49
Speaker
I mean, that seems pretty great to me.
01:07:51
Speaker
I don't like... Not thinking... Obviously, you're not playing this against Sabine because you're probably not going to live that long.
01:07:58
Speaker
If you are, you're going to be fine by the time you're at 9 and have other options.
01:08:04
Speaker
But...
01:08:06
Speaker
Versus any other late game stuff.
01:08:08
Speaker
This is the kind of thing that swings it in your favor because you play it and you both probably only have one thing on the board.
01:08:15
Speaker
You play it, it takes their thing out.
01:08:16
Speaker
If they can't answer, they can't play anything because the next turn you're just going to kill it with this by attacking.
01:08:22
Speaker
It seems like a good swing card.
01:08:26
Speaker
I don't know how strong that actual effect... It seems really strong for them to be able to...
01:08:33
Speaker
kill a guy automatically, but it's a matter of like, obviously they get to choose what it is.
01:08:40
Speaker
So like, there are situations where it might not feel good.
01:08:42
Speaker
Cause like, Oh, I just killed my, my Yularan on turn nine because I can.
01:08:50
Speaker
So like, I can see it sometimes not getting value, but I don't know.
01:08:55
Speaker
I think it's going to do pretty great for, for the decks that are doing the control thingy.
01:09:00
Speaker
It's, it's like,
01:09:03
Speaker
Feels like it's one of the tools we need.
01:09:06
Speaker
Sure.
01:09:07
Speaker
Gary, what do you think?
01:09:09
Speaker
I like this in Thrawn more than I like Chimera in Thrawn.
01:09:13
Speaker
Yeah.
01:09:14
Speaker
Because it works right when you play it.
01:09:16
Speaker
Yeah.
01:09:17
Speaker
It's good.
01:09:20
Speaker
If you're playing a game where you're trading stuff a lot too, this is super oppressive.
01:09:26
Speaker
Yeah.
01:09:27
Speaker
Because you're giving them way less choices.
01:09:31
Speaker
To me, it feels like it's the first late game finisher of all the big things that we've had.
01:09:37
Speaker
Even more than Devastator?
01:09:41
Speaker
Devastator kills one thing, and it can block a lane.
01:09:46
Speaker
That's pretty good.
01:09:49
Speaker
It's pretty good.
01:09:50
Speaker
It's comparable.
01:09:52
Speaker
I feel like this is, one, it's one cheaper, which is significant at that point.
01:09:58
Speaker
and two like it actually can soft lock the board down yeah which i think is important and like if you are playing your control deck where you're controlling the crap out of everything and you need the card that basically says this game's on lock like you play this on an empty board and a lot of times you can be like this game's on lock like you play a unit i will attack and it dies
01:10:22
Speaker
Like, you can't, you know, you're soft-locked onto the board unless you're going to start dropping, like, multiple small units or things.
01:10:28
Speaker
Like, I don't know.
01:10:30
Speaker
It feels more of a late-game finisher, which we'd expect out of Blue than even the Devastator.
01:10:36
Speaker
The Devastator is a finisher, but, yeah, just the hitting only one target once, a little bit less so.
01:10:43
Speaker
Though I do like you can curve.
01:10:45
Speaker
Like, people are like, oh, people could remove this.
01:10:46
Speaker
You know, the classic removal debate.
01:10:48
Speaker
I want to curve relentless into Avenger.
01:10:51
Speaker
Like that's the end game combo.
01:10:53
Speaker
Oh yeah.
01:10:53
Speaker
Yeah.
01:10:54
Speaker
Yes.
01:10:54
Speaker
Yes.
01:10:54
Speaker
Relentless into Avenger is kind of like, Oh yeah.
01:10:57
Speaker
This game is over because you can't get rid of these.
01:11:01
Speaker
Like, and I'm clearing your board when I attack, but yeah, obviously it's not the still not like if your opponent has, you know, a big board, it feels bad.
01:11:11
Speaker
This is the payoff for like, you managed to control the board for eight rounds.
01:11:17
Speaker
I mean, it doesn't even feel that bad.
01:11:19
Speaker
It's still an 8-8 coming down.
01:11:22
Speaker
But, like, the ability's less good.
01:11:24
Speaker
You think we can get, like, an Exodia card that's, like, a...
01:11:29
Speaker
Play this event only if you have six Star Destroyers in play of a different name and you have to play them from all four colors.
01:11:36
Speaker
Operation Cinder or whatever it was from Battlefront 2.
01:11:39
Speaker
I feel like that would be cool.
01:11:43
Speaker
If I get my entire armada out, you lose.
01:11:47
Speaker
There is no coming back.
01:11:49
Speaker
Deal 30 damage to base.
01:11:51
Speaker
I don't know.
01:11:52
Speaker
Maybe Saturday night I'll go Crash Late Night just because I want to see Avenger get played in a Krennic deck or something.
01:11:59
Speaker
Like I want the credit deck that ends at Avenger and just starts locking games down.
01:12:03
Speaker
Let's have some fun.
01:12:07
Speaker
All right.
01:12:08
Speaker
Anyway, that's all the spoilers that we talked about.
01:12:10
Speaker
We talked about the tournament.
01:12:12
Speaker
We talked about what we're playing.
01:12:13
Speaker
That's pretty much all I think we have to talk about this week.
01:12:15
Speaker
Do you guys have anything else you want to bring up?
01:12:19
Speaker
No.
01:12:20
Speaker
Not really.
01:12:20
Speaker
Just go play some games.
01:12:22
Speaker
If you're listening to this right now, like this week, the Steam sale is going on, so get Tabletop Simulator for cheap.
01:12:30
Speaker
It's true.
01:12:30
Speaker
It's a good point.
01:12:31
Speaker
It's always on sale.
01:12:32
Speaker
Like every sale.
01:12:35
Speaker
Yeah, I don't know when people will be listening to this.
01:12:36
Speaker
I don't know if I'll get it done for Turkey Day tomorrow.
01:12:38
Speaker
I might go up like Friday morning when I get around to it.
01:12:43
Speaker
But yeah, go do the Steam sale and enjoy your holiday.
01:12:49
Speaker
Go watch some football and eat some food.
01:12:50
Speaker
That's what I'm going to be doing.
01:12:53
Speaker
You guys got big turkey day plans?
01:12:56
Speaker
Friendsgiving.
01:12:58
Speaker
Friendsgiving?
01:12:59
Speaker
Yep.
01:13:00
Speaker
I think we're just doing a family thing.
01:13:02
Speaker
I like to cook the whole dinner.
01:13:04
Speaker
I cook, so I do the whole thing from scratch.
01:13:08
Speaker
Every little thing.
01:13:09
Speaker
I dry brined the turkey before we got on this.
01:13:13
Speaker
Oh, I just have a microwave.
01:13:14
Speaker
Yeah, you're just like, I just throw it all.
01:13:17
Speaker
Get the microwave turkey dinner
01:13:19
Speaker
Throw it in the microwave.
01:13:20
Speaker
Problem solved.
01:13:22
Speaker
All right.
01:13:24
Speaker
On that note, we'll see you next time.
01:13:26
Speaker
Thanks for tuning in.
