Introduction and Episode Confusion

00:00:05
Speaker
All right.
00:00:05
Speaker
Welcome back, everyone, to the Artificery episode.
00:00:10
Speaker
We're five.
00:00:12
Speaker
No, it's five.
00:00:14
Speaker
I'm pretty sure it's five.
00:00:16
Speaker
Holy crap.
00:00:16
Speaker
We did three without Wyatt and Sean.
00:00:19
Speaker
I know.
00:00:20
Speaker
Yeah.
00:00:20
Speaker
We skipped last week.
00:00:21
Speaker
So now like the math is all off or like I'm thinking like, what week are we in?
00:00:25
Speaker
But it's actually episode five.
00:00:27
Speaker
We've made it.

TwitchCon Recap and Spoilers

00:00:30
Speaker
We have Wyatt back this week.
00:00:32
Speaker
Kyle, a.k.a.
00:00:33
Speaker
Kylo Sprint.
00:00:34
Speaker
We didn't chase him off completely.
00:00:37
Speaker
We tried.
00:00:38
Speaker
We tried.
00:00:38
Speaker
You did your honest best.
00:00:41
Speaker
And then, you know, you're ever loyal.
00:00:44
Speaker
We have Garrett.
00:00:45
Speaker
AKA zero hour and other Nick AKA texture.
00:00:49
Speaker
And I of course am Nick AKA the Gandor back once again to talk about star Wars unlimited.
00:00:57
Speaker
Um, all right.
00:01:00
Speaker
see what has happened a lot has happened in two weeks like we took a week off because we're like you don't skip i know because we're all like oh it feels like you know we didn't have a lot to talk about and we're like we could probably skip a week maybe we'll have more to talk about and then like all of a sudden you know we have the stream about competitive play from ffg and i think there was 14 spoilers that happened in two weeks i mean this week's been a little slow at least but
00:01:24
Speaker
But yeah, because, oh, because they had, oh, don't forget, I almost forget, they did the TwitchCon, which they gave out spoilers there.
00:01:29
Speaker
Yeah, we didn't even go over TwitchCon, so that was a big one.
00:01:32
Speaker
But there wasn't any, like, news out of TwitchCon, I think.
00:01:34
Speaker
It was just them kind of showing off the game, more or less, and then they had the stream and this.
00:01:40
Speaker
We got a little bit about, I feel like we got our first teasers of cunning at TwitchCon.
00:01:44
Speaker
I feel like they kind of tried to be like, this might maybe kind of be what cunning does.
00:01:48
Speaker
We're not going to tell you for real until next week.
00:01:51
Speaker
Yeah, I mean, we had Boss and Wedge, though, were the two spoilers.
00:01:55
Speaker
Dooku.
00:01:57
Speaker
Dooku.
00:01:57
Speaker
Yeah, so they had a spoiler of like three of the colors.
00:02:00
Speaker
We just didn't get a red one.
00:02:03
Speaker
Anyway, we'll talk about those toward the latter half of the thing.

FFG's Competitive Play Structure Discussion

00:02:06
Speaker
But first, I wanted to talk about the FFG competitive play stream.
00:02:11
Speaker
They tried to give us a more in-depth outline of what the competitive play structure will look like, which all sounds pretty good.
00:02:18
Speaker
But we did get some, I think, of the first slightly negative news that, you know, the players are taking.
00:02:25
Speaker
And that is that of the bigger competitive events, that these aren't actually happening until 2025.
00:02:33
Speaker
Until a full three sets are out.
00:02:35
Speaker
Yeah, it's the only downside to me, really.
00:02:38
Speaker
It's the first negative thing I've felt about the game, pretty much period.
00:02:42
Speaker
And I get it, but I also want to have excuses to meet up with y'all and play stuff and all the rest of the community.
00:02:50
Speaker
And I mean, there'll be some for the other stuff, but I'm just going to wait a year.
00:02:57
Speaker
As someone who's looking for reasons not to be excited, I'm not excited.
00:03:05
Speaker
Yeah, I don't know.
00:03:06
Speaker
Like, to some extent, I understand waiting maybe like, you know, till a few sets are out to like, run what they're calling the regional qualifier level.

Debating Early Big Events with Limited Cards

00:03:17
Speaker
And of course, like the world's level because
00:03:20
Speaker
Like, big, big events on, like, one-set metas aren't really that interesting.
00:03:26
Speaker
Like, I get it.
00:03:27
Speaker
Like, I think what the first Destiny Worlds was one set at that point was.
00:03:31
Speaker
It was just Awakening.
00:03:32
Speaker
And it's the only reason I did well.
00:03:35
Speaker
Yeah, the only reason I did well, because there was, like, three decks.
00:03:37
Speaker
I mean, I did well at other stuff, too, but Worlds was... The first Worlds was interesting.
00:03:44
Speaker
The deck that won wasn't even...
00:03:48
Speaker
No one else was playing that deck, pretty much, except for the people that did it.
00:03:52
Speaker
What, the Vader Raider deck?
00:03:55
Speaker
It was not a normal Vader Raider deck, though.
00:03:57
Speaker
Vader Raider was popular, but this is one that ran a completely weird and different set of cards.
00:04:02
Speaker
So it was unique.
00:04:04
Speaker
It did.
00:04:06
Speaker
But yeah, there was like two or three Vaders in the top eight.
00:04:11
Speaker
Hmm.
00:04:12
Speaker
I don't know.
00:04:13
Speaker
I don't remember exactly.
00:04:14
Speaker
I remember it wasn't like a huge amount of deck diversity because you can't really do it out of one set.
00:04:21
Speaker
And Han Ray and Jabba Dooku.
00:04:26
Speaker
Jabba Dooku, was that set one?
00:04:28
Speaker
It was.
00:04:28
Speaker
Sean ran that.
00:04:30
Speaker
Yeah.
00:04:32
Speaker
Anyway, enough about the dead game.
00:04:35
Speaker
Yeah, so no, I get competitive events, wait till, you know, they have more

FFG's Event Structure Breakdown

00:04:40
Speaker
sets.
00:04:40
Speaker
But like the small, like the sector qualifiers, their GQ level events, feels weird to me that they're waiting till 2025 to start those.
00:04:49
Speaker
Hopefully early 2025.
00:04:50
Speaker
I guess, like, let's break it down at least like what the events are and then we can kind of talk about them.
00:04:55
Speaker
Yeah.
00:04:57
Speaker
At the lowest level of competitive events, they have their planetary qualifiers, what's your store only single day events, you know, prizes for participation, prizes for final placement.
00:05:11
Speaker
Winners of these events will qualify for the Galactic Champs.
00:05:14
Speaker
And these start with set two.
00:05:16
Speaker
So like these will be the highest level competitive events that we get in the first year of the game.
00:05:22
Speaker
But it won't start until set two.
00:05:25
Speaker
And these are equivalent to like your... I don't know.
00:05:28
Speaker
What was the Destiny equivalent?
00:05:30
Speaker
They just called them regionals.
00:05:31
Speaker
I've been saying they're kind of like regionals.
00:05:32
Speaker
Yeah.
00:05:34
Speaker
So I don't think we're trying to equate it to Destiny.
00:05:37
Speaker
I don't think it's going to be exactly regionals.
00:05:39
Speaker
My hunch is it's still going to be a little...
00:05:43
Speaker
I don't feel like regionals were still that common, that is to say, in Destiny.
00:05:47
Speaker
And I think this is still going to be more common than regionals.
00:05:49
Speaker
So I think there's going to be more of them than we ever had for Destiny regionals.
00:05:53
Speaker
This seems like it's the lowest level thing.
00:05:55
Speaker
More like a store championship, which was like the first event.
00:05:57
Speaker
Well, we have a store championship kind of thing, which is the casual thing.
00:06:02
Speaker
But yeah, to me, it feels like it's going to be somewhere in between where we're going to have a lot more of them, but we're not going to have literally every store all the time, like store champions, which the store showdown can be literally every store.
00:06:14
Speaker
Right.
00:06:14
Speaker
Some exclusive, but tied to stores.
00:06:17
Speaker
I don't know about regionally for you all, but like where I was, the store championship event, there was only like three stores within driving distance that did those like in a given season for me.
00:06:27
Speaker
So it seems closer to this anyway than like my local didn't get a store championship.
00:06:31
Speaker
So the casual version feels like it's more likely to happen than something like this.
00:06:37
Speaker
Mm-hmm.
00:06:40
Speaker
It's the same for me, pretty much.
00:06:42
Speaker
I know before COVID, when FFG still had X-Wing, they stopped calling them regionals and started calling them hyperspace trials, I guess, just to change up the terminology.
00:06:55
Speaker
And then because they were doing them like two a year.
00:06:58
Speaker
They did two seasons a year.
00:07:00
Speaker
So it feels kind of like they might be going for a similar structure to that so that it's not as hard to find as like, here's your one regional for the year.
00:07:10
Speaker
Yeah, and the real question is, are we trying to do... What they didn't say is like, yeah, it's all kind of built around one season kind of being the whole year.
00:07:20
Speaker
But like, say my city... Say if my city only gets one planetary, one regional type of thing...
00:07:28
Speaker
Is that per set in each year?
00:07:31
Speaker
Or is that per year total?
00:07:32
Speaker
Those are the kind of questions where I just don't know.
00:07:36
Speaker
They said it's a wide event.
00:07:37
Speaker
It's supposed to be a lot of them, low points.
00:07:41
Speaker
But the winner does get an auto invite to Worlds, Eclactics, which is cool.
00:07:45
Speaker
Which is pretty interesting, because I want to say Store Championships, it was like a one-round buy or something, right?
00:07:50
Speaker
It was a one-round buy to regionals.
00:07:52
Speaker
Yeah, to regionals.
00:07:54
Speaker
So this immediately makes it more worthwhile.
00:07:57
Speaker
Yeah.
00:07:58
Speaker
It sounds like not topping, not winning it isn't going to be super lucrative in terms of getting new points towards worlds.
00:08:07
Speaker
But the fact that the winning is an auto-win is still probably... The planetaries might be your easiest way to get into worlds in one fell swoop.
00:08:14
Speaker
Just win one and boom, you're done.
00:08:16
Speaker
You got it.
00:08:18
Speaker
Which is cool.
00:08:18
Speaker
I actually really like that.
00:08:20
Speaker
But to be honest, before, pretty much that was the only way.
00:08:23
Speaker
It was like, you got to win those things and that was the only way.
00:08:25
Speaker
But...
00:08:26
Speaker
It's nice that that is still there.
00:08:28
Speaker
And then you have the point system.
00:08:30
Speaker
That sounds cool to me.
00:08:34
Speaker
Yep.
00:08:34
Speaker
No, yeah.
00:08:35
Speaker
So yeah, I think a lot of hinges on just how many, which we just don't know.
00:08:39
Speaker
Like we can speculate.
00:08:40
Speaker
And they might not even have a fully known yet.
00:08:43
Speaker
They're probably trying to figure out what the best way to run all this is.
00:08:48
Speaker
2025 sounds far away, but when you consider that the game doesn't come out until the third month of next year, it's not as far away, I guess.
00:08:59
Speaker
Right.
00:08:59
Speaker
We're talking mid to late summer.
00:09:05
Speaker
But we'll start having planetary qualifiers.
00:09:07
Speaker
And hopefully we have more than one or at least one for each season.
00:09:11
Speaker
But who knows.
00:09:13
Speaker
And they didn't say more than monthly.
00:09:16
Speaker
The next ones are only monthly.
00:09:18
Speaker
So the fact that these are supposed to be more than monthly makes me feel like they're going to be all the time.
00:09:23
Speaker
all over.
00:09:24
Speaker
Yeah.
00:09:24
Speaker
Or at least just all over, you know, and maybe blocks because yeah, the next one they said, you know, expect like 12 a year, which were the sector qualifiers.
00:09:33
Speaker
These are standalone events.
00:09:34
Speaker
They emphasize that they're not going to be tied to other events or conventions.
00:09:39
Speaker
They're going to be two day events.
00:09:41
Speaker
So you'll have like, you know, a Swiss and top cut type thing.
00:09:45
Speaker
They will have a prize wall allow, you know, people that played in the destiny galactic qualifiers that you'd get
00:09:52
Speaker
you know, tickets or points to turn it at the prize wall.
00:09:55
Speaker
They'll still have participation and final placement prizes.
00:09:59
Speaker
And then they said the top finishers will get points to qualify for the galactic championship, but it's depending on the number of players.
00:10:05
Speaker
So instead of the planetary qualifiers, where it's just the winner, this one, you know, depending on how many of your players, it might be the top four, it might be the top eight, you know, just depends how

Speculation on Cash Prizes in Events

00:10:16
Speaker
many they get.
00:10:16
Speaker
Yeah, that makes sense.
00:10:19
Speaker
And there's no, they did not state one way or another
00:10:23
Speaker
that there is any cash on the line for any of these other ones.
00:10:27
Speaker
My hunch is no, because we haven't had it for FFGs, but they could be completely different.
00:10:35
Speaker
If the pass is assigned for anything, which for a lot of things in this game, it isn't, but I don't know.
00:10:42
Speaker
I don't know whether to expect cash prizes at these things or not.
00:10:45
Speaker
I really don't care.
00:10:47
Speaker
Honestly, I would vote more towards not, especially for these early things, like maybe for the top-end stuff, but
00:10:55
Speaker
Cash prizes draw a different crowd.
00:10:57
Speaker
Agreed.
00:10:59
Speaker
Until the hedge fund that owns Asmodee is like believing this product rolls in so much money that sprinkling a little bit out brings in more, it's just not going to happen.
00:11:09
Speaker
That does seem likely as well.
00:11:13
Speaker
Yeah.
00:11:13
Speaker
I've played a lot of Magic.
00:11:14
Speaker
I'm kind of okay if there's not cash prizes for this.
00:11:19
Speaker
I don't know.
00:11:19
Speaker
I always play the counter-argument of we've still got plenty of cheaty players even without cash prizes, so it's not necessarily a complete argument.
00:11:29
Speaker
It's more than just cheaty players.
00:11:31
Speaker
I'm not necessarily worried about that.
00:11:32
Speaker
There's just an overall tone, and things get more... I don't know.
00:11:37
Speaker
Just the idea of people taking it more serious.
00:11:39
Speaker
Yeah, I want to take the game seriously, but I also want to have fun at the same time.
00:11:43
Speaker
For the most part, even in...
00:11:46
Speaker
you know, a top cut of a game, I still want to have a demeanor that isn't just like, I don't know.
00:11:53
Speaker
I'm a different person, I guess.
00:11:55
Speaker
I want to win.
00:11:55
Speaker
But we still have those players, haven't we?
00:11:57
Speaker
Even with Destiny or any... It's like the proportion thing, you know.
00:12:02
Speaker
Right, I want to play against it.
00:12:03
Speaker
Put more bait out, you get more...
00:12:06
Speaker
Sharks.
00:12:06
Speaker
Go ahead, Wyatt.
00:12:07
Speaker
What did you say, Wyatt?
00:12:08
Speaker
I didn't catch it.
00:12:09
Speaker
No, I'm just with Nick on this.
00:12:11
Speaker
Like, I don't want to play more than one of those type of personalities per tournament.
00:12:15
Speaker
I don't want it to be all of those people.
00:12:19
Speaker
Yeah.
00:12:20
Speaker
No, I would agree that probably for like sector qualifier level, I don't care if there's cash prizes.
00:12:27
Speaker
I wouldn't mind seeing them when you start getting up to like the regional qualifiers that are like three events per year or four events per year, whatever you said, or the championship.
00:12:36
Speaker
Because I like that there's like, I think for any type of game,
00:12:43
Speaker
It's very beneficial, like, eyes-wise on your game to get to the point where you, quote-unquote, can get professional players.
00:12:49
Speaker
Yeah, they're not, like, actually making a living.
00:12:52
Speaker
But just get those players that are able to, like, free roll and come back to events.
00:12:55
Speaker
Because I think people really, like, buy into that and follow it.
00:12:58
Speaker
It gets a lot of eyes on your game.
00:13:00
Speaker
And it's really hard to get to that level.
00:13:05
Speaker
You know, except for people that might have a ton of money and tons of time off that can do these things without, like, ever making any money off of it.
00:13:13
Speaker
maybe makes the playing field a little bit more fair if, you know, just simply good players can get back to these events year after year because they're actually earning prizes to help them get there.
00:13:23
Speaker
Yeah.

Galactic Championship Overview

00:13:27
Speaker
All right.
00:13:27
Speaker
We kind of got sidetracked off of that, but I think the sector qualifier is the closest, like their destiny GQs.
00:13:34
Speaker
They might even be ran by... Not the same format, but...
00:13:38
Speaker
Yeah, not the same format.
00:13:41
Speaker
They did talk about they could have side events and stuff there.
00:13:44
Speaker
They'll be ways to earn tickets and a prize wall and whatnot.
00:13:47
Speaker
Yeah.
00:13:48
Speaker
And going ahead of that, they have their regional qualifiers, larger events.
00:13:53
Speaker
They didn't say that these wouldn't be tied to a convention.
00:13:57
Speaker
So I'm assuming that frequently the regional qualifiers might end up tied to a convention, but it's kind of a question mark.
00:14:03
Speaker
These will also be two-day events.
00:14:05
Speaker
These ones, they said, would be more limited than sector qualifiers.
00:14:07
Speaker
So if sector qualifiers were 12 times a year, one a month, these would be three times, four times a year, or maybe one every other month.
00:14:16
Speaker
I don't know.
00:14:18
Speaker
Like LVO and, and, uh, Nova essentially as like our, our two in the U S kind of places.
00:14:28
Speaker
Or like they have like six of these a year and you'd see like the U S get two of them.
00:14:32
Speaker
Europe get like, you know, two or three, maybe throw one or two to the Brazilian or Australian crowd.
00:14:38
Speaker
If they get a big enough following, um,
00:14:41
Speaker
They didn't really talk much about the prizes on this one, but assuming that they would have similar prizes as a lot of the other things.
00:14:48
Speaker
And then the other thing that they mentioned about this is that the regional qualifiers might have format twists that like the lower level events wouldn't have, but they didn't really expand on like what that could mean.
00:14:58
Speaker
I'm assuming it could mean draft or other limited formats might be a thing.
00:15:04
Speaker
I'm assuming two functions.
00:15:06
Speaker
One, best of three.
00:15:07
Speaker
Two, strip unlimited.
00:15:08
Speaker
Every time you lose, you have to lose a piece of clothing.
00:15:10
Speaker
It just makes sense.
00:15:12
Speaker
Yeah, strip, strip, unlimited.
00:15:15
Speaker
Just catch Wyatt up.
00:15:16
Speaker
They did announce their constructed format is best of three with a sideboard.
00:15:21
Speaker
So we know that's been confirmed.
00:15:22
Speaker
Sorry, my bad.
00:15:23
Speaker
That means we're talking best of one of these formats.
00:15:25
Speaker
I got my details confused.
00:15:27
Speaker
I'm very closely following all the news of this game.
00:15:30
Speaker
Yes, he's got it.
00:15:33
Speaker
But yeah, not a lot of extra information in there.
00:15:36
Speaker
And then lastly, we have the Granddaddy Galactic Championship, which is the Worlds.
00:15:43
Speaker
It's the biggest event, last event of quote unquote their season.
00:15:48
Speaker
It will be invitation exclusive except for the first one in 2025 where they said it'll be an open event.
00:15:54
Speaker
But if you earn enough points from all of the previous events, you could get a day one buy.
00:16:01
Speaker
It will be a three day event.
00:16:03
Speaker
So they haven't really said what that looks like other than it'll have three days.
00:16:09
Speaker
It's the first event where like day two players will qualify for like the next year's Galactic Championship.
00:16:14
Speaker
And they'll also have like side events, the first like sector qualifiers for the next season.
00:16:20
Speaker
The whole shebang.
00:16:21
Speaker
I mean, if it's three days, my guess is two day one flights and then day three is your day two.
00:16:28
Speaker
But who knows?
00:16:30
Speaker
No, because the way they said it, it should be.
00:16:35
Speaker
Because because you can get a whole day one by.
00:16:41
Speaker
I don't know.
00:16:43
Speaker
Maybe depends on how big they're trying to go with it, too.
00:16:46
Speaker
Yeah.
00:16:48
Speaker
I mean, a whole day buy does seem really good compared to like a first round buy, which is like, and especially if did they actually say day two people got auto into the next worlds?
00:17:00
Speaker
I don't know if they said auto into the next world or at least started earning points for the next worlds.
00:17:05
Speaker
I mean, that's also huge.
00:17:06
Speaker
The fact if you can get to the point where you get a buy for a whole day, then you're auto and like starting to earn stuff that that would be pretty crazy.
00:17:12
Speaker
Good.
00:17:13
Speaker
Yeah, they said, as for tournament points, anyone who makes it to day two and beyond will earn themselves tournament points for the next season.
00:17:21
Speaker
Yeah, so they didn't really specify if you auto-qualify, but I would imagine day three finishers will probably all get in, you know, for the next one.
00:17:31
Speaker
Like, if you're top 16 or top 32, you're probably getting enough points if the event's big enough to come back for next year's season.
00:17:39
Speaker
I can pretty confidently say that the one day is good because the one round buy isn't all it was chalked up to be.
00:17:44
Speaker
And I know that because during the last Destiny Worlds, I lost my first two games and was literally the lowest ranked player and got a buy because there was an uneven amount of players.
00:17:52
Speaker
And it didn't feel that good.
00:17:53
Speaker
You know, that's all I'm saying.
00:17:54
Speaker
One round, it's not that good.
00:17:56
Speaker
It was hard at Destiny 2 because you were given the worst strength of schedule, I think, with the buy in a lot of the cases.
00:18:03
Speaker
Not like super SOS.
00:18:05
Speaker
The buy count just is nothing.
00:18:08
Speaker
Whereas it was... It was a net not great for your strength.
00:18:11
Speaker
It was a net nothing where, yeah, it wasn't negative.
00:18:14
Speaker
You would have been worse off if you beat someone round one that went 0-2-0-3 drop.
00:18:19
Speaker
That's worse.
00:18:20
Speaker
True.
00:18:21
Speaker
But compared to people that played someone round one that finished...
00:18:26
Speaker
better than that because i think like in destiny like you were net like someone could only like net negative three i think you're against your sos um so yeah like anybody that like stayed at 500 like was or above above 500 like even slightly would make big pay big dividends so yeah it kind of mattered but like that was like early destiny like later on they went to just no tiebreakers and then it didn't matter
00:18:51
Speaker
Which is better format anyway, I think.
00:18:53
Speaker
I'm a much bigger fan of record-based cuts.
00:18:58
Speaker
Everyone that hits this thing cuts instead of trying to do the strength schedule tiebreakers is just bad.
00:19:04
Speaker
And honestly, I think every FFG-ran tournament, even I think Gen Con did it that way too.
00:19:12
Speaker
I think all the big FFG ones were always run that way, were done properly, so to say.
00:19:18
Speaker
But some of the other regionals and stuff were still...
00:19:22
Speaker
strength schedule based.
00:19:24
Speaker
Let a lot of the regional levels just be ran.
00:19:26
Speaker
But however the person wanted it was there were loose structure in some of them.
00:19:30
Speaker
But no, it was even the first year that I had judged like all the big destiny events.
00:19:35
Speaker
It was still strength of schedule.
00:19:37
Speaker
It wasn't till like the second year, which was like, I think heading into the second or third year of the game.
00:19:44
Speaker
that they started to do it the other way, which I think people much prefer just the win-loss record.
00:19:50
Speaker
Even if you have to have that play-in round into the top cut, they would rather do that than just, you get in on tiebreakers, congrats.
00:19:58
Speaker
I like it much more.
00:20:03
Speaker
I still like it more.
00:20:07
Speaker
What were

Excitement and Concerns about Event Timeline

00:20:08
Speaker
you saying, Wyatt?
00:20:08
Speaker
I have a question for you guys at kind of a big picture level.
00:20:11
Speaker
Based on what's being presented here,
00:20:14
Speaker
Are you overall excited or not hesitant, I guess, about the way they're planning the competitive?
00:20:27
Speaker
I'm excited outside of the time frame.
00:20:29
Speaker
That was the only thing that was really a jarring thing was to me.
00:20:31
Speaker
It was just how late the big stuff started.
00:20:35
Speaker
And honestly, it'll probably be fine in the end.
00:20:38
Speaker
But the rest of it, I'm pretty happy with.
00:20:40
Speaker
Yeah, I like the structure.
00:20:43
Speaker
I think pretty much the refrain you're going to hear from most people is the time frame.
00:20:49
Speaker
But the structure is fine.
00:20:50
Speaker
I'm perfectly happy with that.
00:20:53
Speaker
Yeah, I would say I'm mostly excited.
00:20:55
Speaker
I think...
00:20:57
Speaker
People are disappointed in the timeframe because they want it all now.
00:21:02
Speaker
But I think if you pay attention historically to what happened with Lorcanna and what happened even with Destiny, where these games came out and they didn't have any...
00:21:14
Speaker
OP structure to look forward to.
00:21:17
Speaker
Destiny didn't when it came out.
00:21:18
Speaker
They had nothing and people jumped into that game and you're like, we don't even know.
00:21:22
Speaker
It took Destiny a while before they even got store kits.
00:21:26
Speaker
Weren't even a thing for a few months.
00:21:31
Speaker
Having this much structure is definitely a first for FFG.
00:21:35
Speaker
It's...
00:21:38
Speaker
you know, I don't know.
00:21:39
Speaker
I'm excited about it.
00:21:40
Speaker
Like to know that they have the structure planned out.
00:21:43
Speaker
Yeah.
00:21:43
Speaker
Assuming the first season of like casual OP goes well, I think that'll also put a lot of people like, you know, like, you know, the fact that if store kits are there, like day one, ready to go and everyone's got their casual OP stuff, if there's a good pipeline or if, oh, we ran out, but people are still coming or we have a huger crowd, like as long as we don't run out of that kind of stuff and it's, it's,
00:22:06
Speaker
I don't know.
00:22:07
Speaker
I feel like the casual booster pack thing is going to be a lot of fun for that.
00:22:11
Speaker
And that can definitely be enough to carry the game for the first while.
00:22:17
Speaker
I think that makes sense.
00:22:18
Speaker
I find myself really hoping that they under-promise and over-deliver here, as opposed to the alternative.
00:22:28
Speaker
This is a lot of structure up front, which is awesome.
00:22:31
Speaker
And it's really positive to see it.
00:22:33
Speaker
But even the fact that we're asking questions about...
00:22:35
Speaker
How's that day one by work, right?
00:22:37
Speaker
There's kind of a lot of details being presented for something that is over a year away with I'm sure a ton subject to change.
00:22:44
Speaker
And so it's interesting to me that they're saying so much upfront
00:22:47
Speaker
while not necessarily having an event, like you said, until 2025.
00:22:51
Speaker
So the other thought I had was, I really hope that if they have set delays, they don't delay any of the events.
00:22:58
Speaker
Because it'll be important that, I have found almost everything I've liked since COVID, there's some sort of built-in set or scheduled release delay.
00:23:08
Speaker
And assuming that happens to this game, which probably it will statistically, it'd be good to make sure that events still fire in the timeline communicated.
00:23:15
Speaker
And it's not like late 2025 because they didn't get the set out on time, that sort of thing.
00:23:20
Speaker
I'd be pretty willing to bet that we're not going to have set delays in the first year.
00:23:24
Speaker
Can't say that.
00:23:25
Speaker
It just feels like they have their stuff together pretty well for that.
00:23:28
Speaker
But, you know, I could see...
00:23:32
Speaker
I mean, year two, three, I don't know if any number of things could fall behind.
00:23:39
Speaker
But I think, just from what I hear, it seems like they got everything in a good spot for now.
00:23:45
Speaker
I'm excited you think there's a year two and three in store.
00:23:47
Speaker
That's great.
00:23:48
Speaker
There's a year four and five in store.
00:23:53
Speaker
How long was Destiny?
00:23:54
Speaker
Three years?
00:23:56
Speaker
Really?
00:23:56
Speaker
Honestly, it feels like it was a long time, but it actually wasn't that long.
00:24:01
Speaker
It was a little over three years because set delays.
00:24:05
Speaker
It came out at the end of 2016.
00:24:06
Speaker
They had nine sets.
00:24:08
Speaker
They didn't get nine sets in three years.
00:24:12
Speaker
And it ended a little bit after the end of 2019, early 2020.
00:24:16
Speaker
So a little bit over three years.
00:24:18
Speaker
But like, that's not that like Destiny's release model.
00:24:21
Speaker
When you actually go back and look at it, which I did recently, wasn't that it was like four to five months per set.
00:24:26
Speaker
Like it wasn't that far off from what they're shooting here.
00:24:29
Speaker
For this.
00:24:31
Speaker
Those seasons did kind of feel long for a while with Destiny.
00:24:34
Speaker
So I don't feel like I never felt... Or like, not short.
00:24:37
Speaker
Maybe not long.
00:24:37
Speaker
But like, I didn't feel like for the most part I felt like, oh man, the next set's out already.
00:24:41
Speaker
I can't believe it.
00:24:42
Speaker
Like, no, I feel like I got...
00:24:44
Speaker
I was ready for the new set when it came out.
00:24:45
Speaker
I had had my fun with the one I did.
00:24:47
Speaker
I think the cadence performance is going to be good.
00:24:50
Speaker
I'm less worried than I was for most of Destiny because there's no dice to manufacture.
00:24:56
Speaker
So that cuts out a significant amount of their issues, which I think, I mean, I don't know people at FFG, but based on what we've heard and kind of what they've talked about is that the dice production is what always held stuff up.
00:25:12
Speaker
um so if taking that out i'm way less worried about delays here's hoping chinese new year doesn't uh also impact this game well we talked about that at least i think maybe on the second one a little bit about like i bet they're gonna have product they're gonna have everything like in warehouses ready to go probably by like january because i don't think they're gonna they obviously february doesn't exist essentially so
00:25:38
Speaker
But to be fair, it also takes like a month to ship everything to the US.
00:25:41
Speaker
So obviously they're going to have everything by then.
00:25:44
Speaker
I mean, they've been telling stores they'll have their allocations in January, like what they're going to get.
00:25:49
Speaker
So I'm guessing they will have stuff.
00:25:52
Speaker
They'll know it'll be stateside by January.
00:25:55
Speaker
So they can hit those pre-releases March 1st.
00:25:59
Speaker
We got a fifth podcast member down here.
00:26:02
Speaker
Cutie!
00:26:03
Speaker
Um, so yeah, anyway, I think we've pretty much covered that.

Card Highlights and Strategy Discussions

00:26:07
Speaker
Um, and all, all the good and some of the bad and all the good stuff.
00:26:11
Speaker
So, uh, moving on 14 spoilers in the last two weeks.
00:26:17
Speaker
It's way too many spoilers, but let's try to go through them and give some like quick hits on like what we think of some of these cards.
00:26:24
Speaker
Starting with Wyatt.
00:26:26
Speaker
We'll go to Wyatt every single one.
00:26:27
Speaker
You tell us how to use these, Wyatt.
00:26:30
Speaker
I think that Green Squadron A-Wing is one of the best two-cost cards in the game right now.
00:26:35
Speaker
The fact that you can get initiative and take away any other two-cost card is just fantastic.
00:26:41
Speaker
I'm here for it.
00:26:41
Speaker
It's a million.
00:26:44
Speaker
I feel like someone told you what to say.
00:26:48
Speaker
You almost said this word for word earlier.
00:26:52
Speaker
You know, the only downside of this card obviously is Raid 2 because it's a little under the power level of another level 2 out the gate.
00:26:58
Speaker
But if you have initiative and an aggressive deck, I think this is pound for pound the best opener you can play.
00:27:04
Speaker
That's dead on it.
00:27:05
Speaker
I think you said it pretty well.
00:27:10
Speaker
Wow.
00:27:12
Speaker
Garrett, Nick, any other thoughts you want to share?
00:27:14
Speaker
No notes.
00:27:14
Speaker
I don't know what I could have said.
00:27:16
Speaker
I think that card's great.
00:27:17
Speaker
I don't know how much I'll actually be playing in a Hero Red.
00:27:20
Speaker
Red is...
00:27:25
Speaker
Yeah, I'm not super into red, but I mean, I'm more of the control side of red, and you can still play this in a mid-range deck.
00:27:32
Speaker
It's super good still.
00:27:33
Speaker
I just don't see myself playing hero red that much in this thing, but it is a good card.
00:27:39
Speaker
I mean, the deck I've been playing mostly is Sabine, so as soon as this was spoiled, immediately in the deck.
00:27:45
Speaker
Yeah, you guys can have your Sabine.
00:27:47
Speaker
I don't think I'm going to play her at all.
00:27:51
Speaker
Moving on to something that Nick will more like, the Academy Defense Walker.
00:27:55
Speaker
Nick, take us through the Academy Defense Walker.
00:27:57
Speaker
Oh, I love this.
00:27:57
Speaker
This thing is like, hey, you can play with Krennic, and Krennic's fun.
00:28:02
Speaker
I like Krennic a lot.
00:28:03
Speaker
He doesn't feel perfect.
00:28:05
Speaker
He kind of feels...
00:28:07
Speaker
Like, he needs some more tools, and he's gotten some more tools very recently.
00:28:10
Speaker
This one of them, like the fact that he... It's a Sentinel that basically does exactly... Or basically, it rewards exactly what Krennic wants to do, is just have a little bit of damage on some stuff, and then they get even more strong with this thing.
00:28:22
Speaker
And it's a Sentinel.
00:28:23
Speaker
Like... I don't know what the actual...
00:28:28
Speaker
point at how many of these tokens you really want to get to feel good.
00:28:34
Speaker
One's still probably good enough to play it.
00:28:37
Speaker
I mean, obviously a late game, just a Sentinel in general might just be necessary.
00:28:41
Speaker
6 cost 5-5.
00:28:46
Speaker
I mean, that still feels understated by a bit, but... It's a 5-5 Sentinel.
00:28:51
Speaker
It's a Sentinel, and it's hard to value Sentinel.
00:28:54
Speaker
You can't open fire it.
00:28:56
Speaker
Yeah, I think Sentinels have been undercurved by like one drop.
00:29:01
Speaker
So it's still on curve for a Sentinel, not counting the when played.
00:29:07
Speaker
judge note on this one for people that have asked and I've answered this.
00:29:10
Speaker
You can play this with energy conversion lab, which is, it has the epic action to give it ambush.
00:29:16
Speaker
So you can amp, you can play this with ambush and then ambush and wouldn't play it or simultaneously.
00:29:21
Speaker
You can choose which order you want to do them.
00:29:23
Speaker
So you can do the ambush attack first, running this guy into something to kill it.
00:29:27
Speaker
And if he lives, he'll be damaged.
00:29:29
Speaker
Then you can resolve the wind played, giving an experience token to himself and,
00:29:33
Speaker
Also with Piat, not just... Also with Piat, because Piat gives them Ambush as well.
00:29:40
Speaker
Wyatt, what's your breakdown of this one?
00:29:42
Speaker
Yeah, I mean, maybe under Costa, but I do have a question based on my complete ignorance.
00:29:48
Speaker
Are there a lot of cards right now that are designed to do damage wide against a board?
00:29:54
Speaker
Like, does this counter things that would be seeking to go wide, or is that not really a playstyle?
00:29:58
Speaker
As of right now, Overwhelming Barrage is like the only multi-target.
00:30:03
Speaker
Okay, so this is more about... And Palpatine, I guess.
00:30:06
Speaker
This is synergy you create for yourself, not something that an opponent doesn't want to give you.
00:30:11
Speaker
Yeah.
00:30:13
Speaker
For the most part, yeah.
00:30:14
Speaker
Seems like a good tool in that situation, and otherwise, meh.
00:30:18
Speaker
But do you know what scene that's from?
00:30:21
Speaker
Yeah, it's from Rebels.
00:30:22
Speaker
Rebels?
00:30:23
Speaker
Yeah.
00:30:24
Speaker
When it's Liberation Day.
00:30:27
Speaker
Took the walker, yeah.
00:30:29
Speaker
Okay, so that's actually an ATDP, right?
00:30:31
Speaker
Isn't that what it's called?
00:30:34
Speaker
I just call it the PP walker.
00:30:38
Speaker
I think we had it in Destiny, and it was literally called the ATDP.
00:30:42
Speaker
All I'm saying is that walker is packing, and he's not afraid to show it.
00:30:46
Speaker
It's the baby chicken walker.
00:30:48
Speaker
It's the chick walker.
00:30:49
Speaker
Yeah.
00:30:52
Speaker
Things that I have to get out of my system before next week.
00:30:59
Speaker
going on seasoned shore trooper Garrett tell me about the seasoned shore trooper
00:31:06
Speaker
I like this card a lot.
00:31:07
Speaker
I mean, it's a 2-3 for 2 that just gets stronger later, and it's an Imperial.
00:31:15
Speaker
It's good.
00:31:15
Speaker
It's going to find it.
00:31:16
Speaker
It will be in probably most green villain decks.
00:31:19
Speaker
I would put it in any green villain deck I'm playing.
00:31:23
Speaker
Like, you can get it with Tarkin.
00:31:25
Speaker
You can boost it.
00:31:29
Speaker
It just gets stronger over time.
00:31:30
Speaker
Like, I like it.
00:31:33
Speaker
I think you're always happy to have round one plays that are still relevant round five.
00:31:40
Speaker
Yeah.
00:31:41
Speaker
Yeah.
00:31:42
Speaker
That guy's good and sticky.
00:31:44
Speaker
The 2-3 means that he's not necessarily going to die right away to the first attack, depending on what the one-drops are.
00:31:53
Speaker
But a body for Tarkin to buff, and just the fact that late game it punches above its weight class...
00:32:04
Speaker
for a two drop.
00:32:06
Speaker
I like the art too.
00:32:06
Speaker
It's good art.
00:32:07
Speaker
I do too.
00:32:08
Speaker
It's pretty good.
00:32:09
Speaker
I was going to say, that's actually what I'd like to speak to here.
00:32:12
Speaker
That guy is clearly packing heat.
00:32:16
Speaker
And he's likely, if you took off the armor, I think he has like a 12 pack.
00:32:20
Speaker
Like the only way you can have that posture and be so confident shooting is his core is really, really strong.
00:32:25
Speaker
So that dude's the guy you want to take, not just to the shore, but to the beach.
00:32:31
Speaker
He's like Kylo Ren.
00:32:33
Speaker
He's more ripped than Kylo Ren.
00:32:34
Speaker
Now, Kylo Ren had like a weird mono-ab with the way he carried that shirt around.
00:32:38
Speaker
This guy's the guy you actually want to be on the beach volleyball team with.
00:32:41
Speaker
Well, I don't know about you, but a friend of mine saw Kylo Ren in the shower and he said that Kylo Ren had an eight-pack.
00:32:47
Speaker
He was shredded.
00:32:52
Speaker
SNL things.
00:32:53
Speaker
Moving on.
00:32:55
Speaker
Next spoiler.
00:32:56
Speaker
General.
00:32:57
Speaker
Is it tag or taggy?
00:32:59
Speaker
I don't, I don't know.
00:33:00
Speaker
I've heard a lot of people say different ways.
00:33:03
Speaker
It's actually to G G. I like my brain says Taj.
00:33:09
Speaker
Like that's kind of where I go, but taggy sounds weird.
00:33:12
Speaker
So I just don't want to, I don't want to believe that's the right way.
00:33:15
Speaker
I've always said taggy.
00:33:17
Speaker
I feel like it's not pronounced in any media.
00:33:20
Speaker
I would have to go look out.
00:33:21
Speaker
I don't think they said it in Star Wars.
00:33:23
Speaker
Anyway, Wyatt, you tell us about General Toge.
00:33:27
Speaker
If I'm being honest, I really wish he was a 3 cost 3-3 with his effect because I think that'd be more on theme.
00:33:33
Speaker
You're not wrong.
00:33:34
Speaker
3-3-3-3-3.
00:33:35
Speaker
Right.
00:33:36
Speaker
It's a little interesting to me that he's so cheap.
00:33:40
Speaker
That's good.
00:33:40
Speaker
It means if you swarm the board, you can play him along with something else in the same round to get maximum effect.
00:33:45
Speaker
What is early as 4?
00:33:48
Speaker
But yeah, I kind of wish since he's made to be played a little bit later to really benefit, I wish his body was a little bit better to compensate.
00:33:56
Speaker
Right.
00:33:57
Speaker
He's a two drop that you don't want to play round one, which is always true.
00:34:01
Speaker
For the important thing, apparently looking stuff up...
00:34:05
Speaker
in like older English, that might've been just pronounced tag, which is also what I was thinking.
00:34:10
Speaker
It might've just been tag.
00:34:11
Speaker
And that's like weird spelling, but old English tags.
00:34:15
Speaker
I'm going to go tag, not Taj, not taggy, not to GG, not, not to J. You say tag with like a thick Scottish accent, like tag.
00:34:28
Speaker
That's, that's why he gives that experience.
00:34:29
Speaker
He tags his troopers to tag.
00:34:31
Speaker
You're it.
00:34:31
Speaker
And he gives them all XP.
00:34:32
Speaker
So that's, that's how you know.
00:34:34
Speaker
General Tagus who gets turned into a sausage by Vader.
00:34:37
Speaker
Right.
00:34:40
Speaker
Yeah, no, Garrett, Nick, do you have any other thoughts?
00:34:45
Speaker
He's cheap.
00:34:49
Speaker
I haven't really played around with him yet at all, so I don't really know how likely you're going to ever be able to get your three value out of it.
00:34:56
Speaker
I think if you get the two value regularly, that seems really good.
00:35:01
Speaker
Like, really good.
00:35:02
Speaker
I just don't know.
00:35:03
Speaker
Even one's fine.
00:35:05
Speaker
And he's an official, so he still turns on your royal guard.
00:35:09
Speaker
He kind of feels like two-drop Leia to me, where you generally don't want to play them.
00:35:17
Speaker
On two, just to play them?
00:35:18
Speaker
Yeah, unless you have to.
00:35:19
Speaker
Because the body isn't doing you anything, really.
00:35:23
Speaker
The two-two part, it can do something.
00:35:25
Speaker
It's raised all the two-threes.
00:35:26
Speaker
You're just wasting cards to play it, usually.
00:35:30
Speaker
I think he'll be fine eventually.
00:35:34
Speaker
If we get a leader trooper, he maybe becomes a little more interesting.
00:35:40
Speaker
Ooh, yeah.
00:35:42
Speaker
Because then you have this turn where you can flip your leader that you're looking to play him, and maybe you have your leader and one other trooper out, and you get a couple tokens, and you're happy about it.
00:35:51
Speaker
But we don't have one yet.
00:35:53
Speaker
If Aiden's going to be a leader, Aiden could be a trooper, right?
00:35:57
Speaker
Yeah.
00:35:58
Speaker
If we eventually ever see Phasma, I'm sure she would be a trooper.
00:36:02
Speaker
Sure.
00:36:02
Speaker
Yeah.
00:36:04
Speaker
That's crossing eras.
00:36:05
Speaker
You can't do that.
00:36:06
Speaker
That's illegal.
00:36:07
Speaker
This is Unlimited.
00:36:09
Speaker
Unlimited.
00:36:11
Speaker
Do leaders, I assume to put a plus one token, the leader has to be in play and flipped.
00:36:17
Speaker
You can't pre-stop.
00:36:18
Speaker
They're a leader on the leader side.
00:36:22
Speaker
They're not a unit until you deploy them.
00:36:24
Speaker
Then they're a leader unit.
00:36:27
Speaker
Not all squares can be circles with plus one, plus one.
00:36:30
Speaker
I gotcha.
00:36:34
Speaker
Moving on.
00:36:35
Speaker
An event.
00:36:36
Speaker
Mission briefing.
00:36:38
Speaker
Nick, tell me about what you think about Mission Briefing.
00:36:43
Speaker
I don't know about this card.
00:36:45
Speaker
It seems like it's something that's in a lot of games for a similar cost.
00:36:53
Speaker
I don't know.
00:36:53
Speaker
Maybe Vader wants it.
00:36:55
Speaker
Maybe not.
00:36:56
Speaker
I don't know.
00:36:57
Speaker
It's maybe fine in draft.
00:36:59
Speaker
You don't know what else to do with your life.
00:37:02
Speaker
Because if you don't have anything to do with it, you just make it a resource.
00:37:07
Speaker
Just play bad cards and make them resources.
00:37:10
Speaker
That's how we play the game.
00:37:12
Speaker
I don't know.
00:37:14
Speaker
I'm sure that someone's going to find some good use from it.
00:37:16
Speaker
I just don't know it right off the bat right now.
00:37:19
Speaker
And Withdrawal being slightly devalued with the fact that we draw two already, like, I don't know.
00:37:25
Speaker
At two, it would feel pretty good.
00:37:26
Speaker
Yeah.
00:37:29
Speaker
What do you think, Wyatt?
00:37:30
Speaker
You look confused.
00:37:32
Speaker
I guess I'm kind of curious.
00:37:34
Speaker
Has there already been Taka formats for 2v2?
00:37:37
Speaker
Or anything like that?
00:37:38
Speaker
No.
00:37:39
Speaker
I don't think there's been.
00:37:40
Speaker
They've said that there is a multiplayer and the game was designed for it.
00:37:45
Speaker
which makes me think that there will be some before it comes out, but we're not getting a stream of that this month.
00:37:50
Speaker
Sure.
00:37:52
Speaker
This is a card that in that format seems like it might be more interesting because of the choose a player option.
00:37:58
Speaker
I could see it as a support card in a different format, having utility it doesn't have in the main game.
00:38:04
Speaker
Right.
00:38:05
Speaker
Like you can even a free for all multiplayer where it's political.
00:38:10
Speaker
Sure.
00:38:10
Speaker
It'd be a bargaining chip.
00:38:12
Speaker
Like I'll let you draw two cards if you don't mess with me.
00:38:16
Speaker
Yeah.
00:38:16
Speaker
That's fine.
00:38:17
Speaker
If that's if that's the best use out of this, that's fine, too, because it's not every card has to be a killer.
00:38:23
Speaker
I think in limited, it's pretty solid since you need more card draw in limited, you know, more often than not, just because you're not optimized.
00:38:33
Speaker
But I also see it maybe for the future, if we get more mill stuff to force someone to draw two cards they don't have.
00:38:40
Speaker
and get bombed for damage that's just weird because right now what we see for mill is double blue it's can you at least have to go blue but like double blue with vigilance like i guess you can pay the tax but like i mean one one resource per card milled with the aspect tax plus another benefit i guess is
00:39:02
Speaker
I don't know.
00:39:02
Speaker
It's really hard to evaluate what the value of mill is.
00:39:05
Speaker
I'm a mill player, so I'm thinking for the future.
00:39:07
Speaker
I can't make a mill deck right now.
00:39:09
Speaker
If it's viable, but I don't know.
00:39:12
Speaker
It can't feel worse than it did in Destiny.
00:39:14
Speaker
That's all I can hope, because...
00:39:18
Speaker
I mean, I'm going to have the hot take that I think this is one of the worst cards we've seen spoiled, and I don't know.
00:39:22
Speaker
Oh, you mean it's worse than tactical advantage?
00:39:25
Speaker
It is.
00:39:25
Speaker
I think this is worse than tactical advantage.
00:39:28
Speaker
Because, like, it's three to draw two, but really it's pay three to get, like, one extra card.
00:39:33
Speaker
Because, like, you're giving up a card to replace it.
00:39:36
Speaker
That's why I said, like, maybe a two would be.
00:39:39
Speaker
I don't know.
00:39:40
Speaker
I don't know.
00:39:40
Speaker
Built real bad.
00:39:41
Speaker
I don't... It's a lot of resources for one extra card.
00:39:46
Speaker
When you already just get two per turn, you just not resource stuff.
00:39:50
Speaker
If there's like a leader that reduces event costs or something like that.
00:39:56
Speaker
Yeah, maybe.
00:39:56
Speaker
Like first event every round you play reduced by one.
00:39:59
Speaker
That's actually, that's kind of spicy.
00:40:01
Speaker
Because I could even see a leader that.
00:40:03
Speaker
There's a lot of stuff that can be cool and broken with that.
00:40:06
Speaker
And then it gets interesting.
00:40:10
Speaker
Yeah, I don't know.
00:40:11
Speaker
I hate it.
00:40:12
Speaker
Moving on to another card that's not that great.
00:40:15
Speaker
The 97th Legion.
00:40:17
Speaker
Garrett, do you like 97th Legion?
00:40:20
Speaker
I don't like 97th Legion.
00:40:22
Speaker
If you're dropping seven resources, I want something better than this.
00:40:29
Speaker
I just don't like it.
00:40:30
Speaker
I think the artwork's fine.
00:40:34
Speaker
I think it's fine that it's a single aspect.
00:40:38
Speaker
I think in Limited this might be fine, but I don't ever see myself putting this in a constructed deck.
00:40:44
Speaker
I just...
00:40:48
Speaker
I think limited games tend to go a little bit longer just because you don't have those crazy kills unless somebody gets something nuts, which will happen.
00:40:56
Speaker
But you'll get seven resources in a limited game, and this is fine because no one's going to have an answer for it.
00:41:03
Speaker
But I just... Why?
00:41:08
Speaker
It's an Imperial Trooper.
00:41:10
Speaker
You're not putting it in a hero deck.
00:41:12
Speaker
Yeah.
00:41:13
Speaker
It's true.
00:41:13
Speaker
Oh, right.
00:41:14
Speaker
I forgot it's neutral, which is really weird thematically.
00:41:17
Speaker
They're just keeping the peace.
00:41:19
Speaker
They're not bad.
00:41:21
Speaker
It's the Outer Rim.
00:41:22
Speaker
There's no rules out there.
00:41:24
Speaker
You know, they're just doing their jobs.
00:41:26
Speaker
I don't think a hero deck would play it either.
00:41:29
Speaker
But I don't know.
00:41:29
Speaker
Maybe there's a deck with troopers that just goes really all in on troopers.
00:41:35
Speaker
Because there's probably not going to be any space troopers completely ignore space and loses the game that way.
00:41:40
Speaker
But, you know.
00:41:42
Speaker
I mean, green can ramp at least, so I guess there's something for this, but I just don't... For seven resources... If you actually ambush this guy, if you're just playing I want to ramp up and rely on Piet to just clear board, that actually doesn't seem terrible as another body for that.
00:42:05
Speaker
I guess it's one more than AT-ST, but it's just kind of like another AT-ST.
00:42:10
Speaker
Yeah, I was going to say with ramp, the one thing he has with ramp is that he keeps getting bigger.
00:42:14
Speaker
So like late game, a lot of times you're like ramp is dead.
00:42:17
Speaker
I'm going to like, you know, just resource my super laser technician or resupply.
00:42:22
Speaker
This basically turns those into give this guy an XP token.
00:42:27
Speaker
Which is a thing, but I think it's still just a hard ask to play something expensive that can't impact the board the round that you play it.
00:42:35
Speaker
That's usually asking in most decks just to dumpster on you and then hit it with removal next round, and then you did nothing.
00:42:42
Speaker
Have we seen events or upgrades that give overwhelm to troopers?
00:42:48
Speaker
We have not seen any overwhelm on an upgrade.
00:42:53
Speaker
We've seen infiltrate on something we'll talk about in a little bit.
00:42:59
Speaker
Or sabotage.
00:43:02
Speaker
Because that is one value to something that scales as much as you have money.
00:43:06
Speaker
And if you're rich, the potential to play this card and then something that does grant it overwhelm the following round makes it really spicy.
00:43:14
Speaker
Clear and push at the same time.
00:43:18
Speaker
Yep.
00:43:19
Speaker
Moving on.
00:43:21
Speaker
Wedge and Tilly's.
00:43:22
Speaker
Wyatt, take Wedge and Tilly's and describe the Star of the Rebellion.
00:43:28
Speaker
It's a pun.
00:43:29
Speaker
Yeah.
00:43:31
Speaker
Wedge is the uncle of... Who cares?
00:43:35
Speaker
Each friendly vehicle, Ewan McGregor.
00:43:37
Speaker
He's the uncle of Ewan McGregor.
00:43:39
Speaker
Each friendly vehicle unit gets plus one, plus one and gains ambush.
00:43:46
Speaker
It seems good.
00:43:48
Speaker
It seems like something I would want to kill if my opponent played it.
00:43:51
Speaker
I really don't like it existing.
00:43:54
Speaker
Its stat line isn't incredible, but actually seems pretty solid considering it's granting both plus one, plus one and ambush.
00:44:01
Speaker
I don't have a lot to compare this to because like I said in the first episode, I'm only doing spoilers in this context.
00:44:06
Speaker
I'm trying to go in kind of fresh, but just looking at this, it seems good to me based on what I know of most card game economics.
00:44:14
Speaker
Cool.
00:44:15
Speaker
Wrong answer.
00:44:15
Speaker
All right, Gary, you want to tell him the right answer?
00:44:17
Speaker
That's mostly my feel, too.
00:44:19
Speaker
Wrong answer.
00:44:20
Speaker
He's fine.
00:44:22
Speaker
He doesn't make me that excited.
00:44:23
Speaker
I think if you combo them with Bright Hope, they're really good together, which I think we're going to talk about next, probably.
00:44:32
Speaker
Together, I think they're very solid.
00:44:34
Speaker
The problem is there aren't that many vehicles, at least that we've seen.
00:44:39
Speaker
By set three, I think Wedge is going to be pretty good.
00:44:44
Speaker
But right now, like, I'm playing an X-Wing, I guess, and getting a plus one plus one on it.
00:44:51
Speaker
And ground vehicles.
00:44:53
Speaker
We need more ground vehicles.
00:44:55
Speaker
Yes.
00:44:55
Speaker
I was going to say, the big secret problem with Wedge from what we've seen so far is that like 98% of the space or vehicle units are space.
00:45:04
Speaker
And he goes to the ground.
00:45:06
Speaker
So if you're playing... So you're not protecting him.
00:45:10
Speaker
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:45:10
Speaker
That makes sense.
00:45:11
Speaker
The only ground vehicle we have already has ambush.
00:45:14
Speaker
So it's just like half his ability doesn't do anything with it.
00:45:18
Speaker
Wedge is too slow and only works if you have a huge ground presence.
00:45:22
Speaker
And then it just feels like all it's doing is win more because then now you win space too, essentially.
00:45:27
Speaker
Yeah.
00:45:28
Speaker
So he comes on the board, he's not impactful.
00:45:30
Speaker
Like in what I've tried to play with him.
00:45:34
Speaker
the best case use of wedge was ramming him into something with energy conversion lab.
00:45:40
Speaker
And then maybe he lives for a round or two.
00:45:43
Speaker
Right.
00:45:43
Speaker
Otherwise, probably not.
00:45:45
Speaker
That's why I'm saying I set three.
00:45:46
Speaker
Yeah, if you had a bunch of ground units to curve out around them, I think it becomes scary because like,
00:45:51
Speaker
Then all of a sudden he hits the table and if your opponent can't get rid of him like immediately or by an event, like anything else they play to ground, you're like, I'm going to ambush.
00:45:59
Speaker
I'm going to ambush.
00:46:00
Speaker
I'm going to ambush.
00:46:00
Speaker
All my stuff's bigger.
00:46:01
Speaker
Like my action economy is like way better than yours.
00:46:06
Speaker
But with space units, it's kind of a non-bow, I feel.
00:46:09
Speaker
Because like at least he's okay body size, but he's just going to get tangled.
00:46:14
Speaker
Yeah, I mean, I guess he's kind of like...
00:46:16
Speaker
He's got against non-aggro mini-Sentinel because people are going to want to kill it before it...
00:46:24
Speaker
makes things worse.
00:46:26
Speaker
I assume we're also going to get at least a few more ground vehicles that we have to that'll that'll be usable with him because that'd be pretty sad.
00:46:35
Speaker
Like even just like basic ass like speeder or something.
00:46:39
Speaker
We're going to get like that one thing though.
00:46:41
Speaker
Like I said, I know.
00:46:42
Speaker
Well, I mean, there's there's plenty of ground vehicles and the original Star Wars, right?
00:46:49
Speaker
Not as much.
00:46:51
Speaker
Not on the hero side.
00:46:54
Speaker
It's just like basic speeders.
00:46:56
Speaker
Defending my original answer, I do think you have to answer him anytime you can play something that has to be answered.
00:47:02
Speaker
That's not bad.
00:47:06
Speaker
True.
00:47:06
Speaker
Unless you have nothing in space, then it's just like, well, Ambush doesn't do anything in space if I have nothing in there, so I don't even need to kill it.
00:47:15
Speaker
I see a future by set three where you have Wedge and your sideboard is changing out space for ground vehicles depending on what you're playing against.
00:47:28
Speaker
Wedge can be very solid.
00:47:30
Speaker
But that's for the future.
00:47:33
Speaker
It's kind of like another card that we're going to talk about soon too.
00:47:36
Speaker
Alright, let's talk about Bright Hope.
00:47:39
Speaker
Nick, tell us about the Bright Hope.
00:47:42
Speaker
This seems like super good.
00:47:46
Speaker
This is like big BV body, early game-ish.
00:47:52
Speaker
My opponents are taking over space and I don't know what to do.
00:47:54
Speaker
At least I have a bright hope.
00:47:58
Speaker
I feel like early you might not get a lot of value out of the bouncing a ground unit back into your hand to draw a card, but that could also be a big deal, the card advantage that you gain from that.
00:48:12
Speaker
You're essentially getting two back, and if you're popping an R2-D2, who cares?
00:48:16
Speaker
Who really cares if you're popping an R2 back?
00:48:19
Speaker
You can pop it back down.
00:48:20
Speaker
I really like Bright Hope.
00:48:22
Speaker
I feel like with the cards we have now, it kind of filled a hole in what was missing in hero space.
00:48:29
Speaker
They just didn't have anything that felt solid in that range at all.
00:48:35
Speaker
I don't even know Villain really does either.
00:48:36
Speaker
But this does kind of answer a lot of, like, they throw down a tie advance.
00:48:42
Speaker
This will kill it.
00:48:43
Speaker
They try to Interceptor it.
00:48:44
Speaker
I mean, at least it'll trade with Interceptor evenly in the end, four for four mana.
00:48:49
Speaker
But I mean, overall, I just like it.
00:48:52
Speaker
And obviously at a 2.6, it's a good buff vehicle if you have stuff.
00:48:55
Speaker
And it's a rebel, so you can still wing leader it and make it huge in space.
00:48:59
Speaker
Or if you're playing blue, you can entrench it and make it huge and just never going to die.
00:49:05
Speaker
There's a lot of fun stuff you can do with it.
00:49:09
Speaker
Oh yeah, for sure.
00:49:10
Speaker
I think having that top of curve Space Sentinel for when you're playing the X-Wings or the A-Wings is annoying, to say the least.
00:49:19
Speaker
And it does have some good combos with the bounce.
00:49:22
Speaker
Yeah, R2 or any one-cost unit, obviously.
00:49:25
Speaker
I think Leia is interesting, particularly... Yeah, so stuff with that one blade, for sure.
00:49:30
Speaker
Because you pay 2, exhaust something, play this, pick her back up, draw a card.
00:49:35
Speaker
I don't feel terrible.
00:49:36
Speaker
Like Ackbar costs 3, but that effect can be pretty good too if you're already doing well on the ground.
00:49:41
Speaker
Anything with ambush, it's good with that.
00:49:46
Speaker
You hit something, take the damage, bounce it back.
00:49:50
Speaker
We haven't seen the best things to use it with yet.
00:49:54
Speaker
Wyatt, any thoughts on the Bright Hope?
00:49:56
Speaker
Do we have any ways to bounce space units?
00:49:59
Speaker
I mean, other than it.
00:50:02
Speaker
Waylay can do anything.
00:50:05
Speaker
Like, or you mean pick this back up into your hand.
00:50:07
Speaker
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:50:07
Speaker
Is there a way to bounce this?
00:50:10
Speaker
Not well.
00:50:11
Speaker
OK.
00:50:13
Speaker
If there ever is, I think there's some really interesting recursive value things you could start doing.
00:50:18
Speaker
I mean, you can play it again with Home 1 if it dies, if you play Home 1 with nine resources.
00:50:26
Speaker
That could be pretty good.
00:50:28
Speaker
Moving on to funner stuff.
00:50:30
Speaker
Bosk, the deadly stalker.
00:50:32
Speaker
Wyatt, review Bosk.
00:50:33
Speaker
He's a lizard with a gun.
00:50:35
Speaker
Oh, God.
00:50:36
Speaker
He had to go there.
00:50:37
Speaker
I'm just tired of Trandoshans being good.
00:50:40
Speaker
I lived through one game where that's true, and if it's true in this game, I'm out.
00:50:44
Speaker
Let's see.
00:50:45
Speaker
Bosk, Underworld Bounty Hunter.
00:50:46
Speaker
He's a 4-5 with Ambush, and when you play an event, you may deal 2 damage.
00:50:50
Speaker
Holy shit.
00:50:51
Speaker
uh yeah he seems very very good uh i would load him up in an event uh i don't know aggro control deck probably and go to town he's he's a he's a four five for five like he's he's incredible he's only an uncommon ambush yeah it's like this this you could you could call that a legendary and i think people would believe you yeah he's great
00:51:17
Speaker
The fact that he's uncommon means he's actually going to show up in draft, and then he's going to be your nightmare.
00:51:22
Speaker
Villain Cunning is going to be nuts.
00:51:24
Speaker
With that and Boba and Slave 1, or Fats Fire Spray, it's going to be good.
00:51:30
Speaker
Because Boba's also common, right?
00:51:36
Speaker
The Boba leader is common, so he pairs very well into a Boba deck.
00:51:40
Speaker
Definitely...
00:51:42
Speaker
But yeah, even just Boba flips on five, so you could flip your Boba and then play your boss with the ambush, kill something, ready two resources with Boba, use that two resources to play an event, get the two damage.
00:51:54
Speaker
Seems fine.
00:51:55
Speaker
It makes the Boba swing turn even more possibility for nuts.
00:52:03
Speaker
Yeah, he's insane.
00:52:05
Speaker
I like Bosk.
00:52:06
Speaker
I haven't really gotten to... I don't think I've actually gotten to do anything with him yet.
00:52:09
Speaker
Everything in the game I've either tried to play with Bosk in it, he either doesn't come out of the table or I was so behind it didn't matter, so...
00:52:18
Speaker
That's the only sad part is I never got to use my lizard with a gun.
00:52:21
Speaker
Yeah, that two damage can hit space units too.
00:52:23
Speaker
That's so good.
00:52:24
Speaker
It's not limited.
00:52:25
Speaker
Yeah, yeah, exactly.
00:52:26
Speaker
And I feel like anything that lets you pop a little bit cross lane feels pretty nice.
00:52:32
Speaker
Like throw unit down and affect the other lane.
00:52:34
Speaker
Just like double basically double stabilizing.
00:52:38
Speaker
I feel like those cards are very appealing to me and we're going to see a few more.
00:52:43
Speaker
I just like that you use this, that with open fire or force choke, and you're doing six or seven damage.
00:52:49
Speaker
It is nuts.
00:52:50
Speaker
Yeah.
00:52:51
Speaker
The leader killer, Bosk.
00:52:53
Speaker
Moving on to probably Nick's favorite card.
00:52:56
Speaker
I'll let him talk about Count Dooku.
00:52:59
Speaker
Yep.
00:52:59
Speaker
Dooku is pretty awesome.
00:53:01
Speaker
Again, another Krennic card.
00:53:04
Speaker
I mean, Tarkin probably, if you play blue Tarkin.
00:53:09
Speaker
Or blue Boba, if you're one of those persons.
00:53:11
Speaker
Let's play blue.
00:53:12
Speaker
Just playing blue.
00:53:13
Speaker
If you're playing blue villain, I'm pretty sure you want Dooku, unless you're like a weird rushier blue deck, which probably isn't going to happen as much.
00:53:22
Speaker
No, because Gandor was playing blue Sabine.
00:53:25
Speaker
I can't forget about that.
00:53:26
Speaker
I don't think you played.
00:53:27
Speaker
I can't play this.
00:53:28
Speaker
It's a bean.
00:53:29
Speaker
Yeah.
00:53:30
Speaker
Maybe you could.
00:53:31
Speaker
You pay nine.
00:53:31
Speaker
But.
00:53:34
Speaker
No, Duke is great.
00:53:35
Speaker
He comes out and he's a mini takedown.
00:53:37
Speaker
And by a mini, I mean like he hits one less.
00:53:39
Speaker
So if you cost him at the price of more of like three for that effect, like so it's more like an open fire, but can go around shields and stuff.
00:53:50
Speaker
then you're getting a 5-4 for 4 with Shielded.
00:53:54
Speaker
Like, that seems super.
00:53:55
Speaker
Like, the fact that this is all in one card, I don't know.
00:53:58
Speaker
I mean, he's a force, so that can, you know, that can, at this point, it's mostly just the, um,
00:54:06
Speaker
the Force Choke.
00:54:07
Speaker
I don't think there's anything else.
00:54:09
Speaker
Fallen Lightsaber's Force Unit.
00:54:10
Speaker
Fallen Lightsaber.
00:54:11
Speaker
There you go.
00:54:13
Speaker
That would be gross on Dooku too.
00:54:14
Speaker
They have the Hero Heal and Force Unit to deal damage, but I don't think... Binds all things as a Hero, right?
00:54:20
Speaker
Yeah, I don't think you're going to pay for that in a Villain deck.
00:54:22
Speaker
I can't remember that as Hero or Blue Neutral, but yeah.
00:54:25
Speaker
But yeah, no, I love Dooku.
00:54:26
Speaker
This is exactly what you want as a big swing card in a controlly matchup, because a 5-4 with Shielded is going to
00:54:35
Speaker
I mean, three for one, probably.
00:54:37
Speaker
He's going to auto-kill something and then take two hits, maybe kill two smaller, medium things to die.
00:54:44
Speaker
I mean, Dooku is just nuts.
00:54:46
Speaker
The biggest downside of Dooku is that he dies to himself.
00:54:49
Speaker
I was going to say, the Dooku...
00:54:53
Speaker
Clone Wars.
00:54:53
Speaker
You get into weird Dooku chicken, as people online have called it, where you don't want to be the first person to play your Dooku because then the second person will play their Dooku and Dooku your Dooku.
00:55:03
Speaker
And then it's just Dooku's all the time.
00:55:04
Speaker
You can't Dooku until you have two Dookus in hand.
00:55:07
Speaker
Yeah, then you have to Dooku their Dooku and they Dooku.
00:55:11
Speaker
It's a real Dookie.
00:55:12
Speaker
A takedown also kind of works, but
00:55:14
Speaker
It Binds All Things is a single aspect blue, so I would put it in that deck.
00:55:20
Speaker
The thing is we just don't have a lot of force users on Villain right now, and especially with a Krennic blue-green type of deck.
00:55:28
Speaker
I don't think he'd be the only one, right?
00:55:31
Speaker
Yeah, we don't have anything else on Villain's side.
00:55:33
Speaker
Is he the first shielded unit we've seen?
00:55:37
Speaker
He was the first one that... Is there another one?
00:55:40
Speaker
No, he's the first one.
00:55:41
Speaker
Yeah.
00:55:44
Speaker
Because that keyword was new.
00:55:45
Speaker
That's what I thought.
00:55:47
Speaker
It makes sense.
00:55:48
Speaker
I didn't even think of anything evidence.
00:55:50
Speaker
We saw it in the rules, but we hadn't seen one yet, I don't think.
00:55:54
Speaker
Oh, it was already in the Quick Start Guide.
00:55:56
Speaker
Okay.
00:55:57
Speaker
I didn't even realize that.
00:56:02
Speaker
Yep.
00:56:02
Speaker
Wyatt, anything to share about Dooku?
00:56:06
Speaker
Nah, he looks good.
00:56:08
Speaker
I agree with what people are saying.
00:56:10
Speaker
The art captured his signature look of superiority very well.
00:56:14
Speaker
I like him much more than Mace personally for if we're talking our cross era cards.
00:56:22
Speaker
Yeah, that is a good point to know that he is not from the OT.
00:56:27
Speaker
So he is out of era for the few that we've seen.
00:56:31
Speaker
Cool stuff.
00:56:32
Speaker
Moving on.
00:56:33
Speaker
The one leader that we got in the past two weeks, Hera Syndulla.
00:56:37
Speaker
I'll talk about this one.
00:56:38
Speaker
She's been a little bit, I don't know.
00:56:40
Speaker
debated because her only ability is that you can ignore the aspect penalty on specter cards that you play.
00:56:47
Speaker
So she's green, but like you could play, you know, blue Kanan, you can play yellow Ezra, you can play the red Sabine all in her deck and like keep her in say double green aspect, you know, double command and still get like all of those out of aspect cards, which seems pretty good.
00:57:04
Speaker
But unlike all, most of the other leader effects we've seen, it doesn't actually be,
00:57:10
Speaker
get you anything real other than just deck building mechanics, I guess.
00:57:18
Speaker
I'm not a super hero.
00:57:19
Speaker
I don't know.
00:57:19
Speaker
Like, I think it'll make a fun theme deck.
00:57:21
Speaker
I don't know how far it'll go.
00:57:22
Speaker
Unless like we get some specter cards that just combo together in some busted way.
00:57:29
Speaker
Like the cards totally dictate what it does.
00:57:32
Speaker
And I'm not sure with what we have now, if it's totally broken yet.
00:57:36
Speaker
She is a six flip, which is on the top side of what we've seen.
00:57:40
Speaker
And honestly, her size on her leader side is kind of small for a six resource flip being at just a four, six.
00:57:48
Speaker
What was a four, seven at five?
00:57:50
Speaker
At five.
00:57:52
Speaker
Why isn't she a five?
00:57:53
Speaker
She would have been completely balanced at five.
00:57:56
Speaker
Yeah.
00:57:56
Speaker
Luke's a four, seven at six.
00:57:59
Speaker
Yeah.
00:57:59
Speaker
Luke's a four, seven at six.
00:58:01
Speaker
And also has his shield ability, which I think is way more relevant.
00:58:06
Speaker
So it's like just comparing her to Luke, it feels like Luke just kind of steps on her.
00:58:10
Speaker
Other than this ignoring Asterix penalties on Spectre cards, which...
00:58:15
Speaker
again, it just totally depends on if we see some really cool Spectre combos, because if not, she's hot garbage.
00:58:24
Speaker
She does get the ability on attack on her unit side to give an experience token to another unique unit, can't be herself, which does obviously combo with playing all the Spectres, and, like, I don't know, like, people are already playing pretty heavy, unique decks, but that's reminiscent of, say, Tarkin, which Tarkin can just give an experience token to an Imperial, and
00:58:44
Speaker
it's about the same i think restriction level it's about the same level but again tarkin flips at five and as a two seven she can do stuff before and he actually has an ability that's relevant before he flips uh other than letting you play things so i don't know i i it's she's yet to be determined that's my judgment on her i'm not super sold on her yet i think she's gonna be good um
00:59:11
Speaker
whatever we see, we will see more Spectre cards.
00:59:14
Speaker
It's only like three right now.
00:59:15
Speaker
We will see more.
00:59:17
Speaker
When we do, I mean, it all depends on how good those cards are.
00:59:21
Speaker
And I think she's someone that will get better as the game goes on.
00:59:26
Speaker
And she has more options to break deck building.
00:59:31
Speaker
But right now, no one's going to use her right now because what are you going to do?
00:59:35
Speaker
Just put Sabine, Ezra, and Kanan in a deck?
00:59:37
Speaker
That's it.
00:59:38
Speaker
Yeah.
00:59:39
Speaker
Yeah, which is fine.
00:59:40
Speaker
They're all good.
00:59:41
Speaker
We haven't seen Zeb.
00:59:43
Speaker
Hopefully there's Zeb.
00:59:44
Speaker
And like they could always like breadcrumb us and not have like Zeb or ghost or phantom or like chopper.
00:59:51
Speaker
Yeah, I forgot about chopper too.
00:59:53
Speaker
Like, I don't know.
00:59:54
Speaker
These are things that we could see.
00:59:55
Speaker
Like there could be a solid like 10 card core to this deck.
00:59:59
Speaker
But then, like I said, it all hinges on like you get these like 10 specter cards.
01:00:03
Speaker
And do they have the synergy to overcome the fact that you kind of don't actually have a leader ability?
01:00:09
Speaker
Yeah, I suspect this is tier fun.
01:00:13
Speaker
And I think that was true for most of the Spectra cards that came out in the tail end of Destiny's Lifespan, where there were lots of ways similar to this, to decrease their cost, to put them in a deck together.
01:00:26
Speaker
It didn't make for a hyper-competitive experience, but it was fun if you really like U. Rebels and you wanted to break rules to get more...
01:00:35
Speaker
rebel characters in one team than otherwise would be allowed.
01:00:39
Speaker
So I suspect she's going to fill a similar role here.
01:00:42
Speaker
There's a chance that enough Spectre cards come out over time that if they keep kind of that keyword tribe supported, there will eventually be a point where something slips past and she becomes really strong.
01:00:51
Speaker
But historically, when I've seen FFG build a pre-built combo to break their own rules, it doesn't get to be incredibly strong because they built it for it.
01:01:05
Speaker
And I can tell you why.
01:01:06
Speaker
It's because in Imperial Assault, they had a Spectre Cell upgrade that was unbelievably broken.
01:01:13
Speaker
The top eight teams one year, Worlds or something, were all running the exact same Spectre Cell team.
01:01:20
Speaker
And so ever since then, we can't have broken Spectre.
01:01:24
Speaker
Which is a shame.
01:01:25
Speaker
That feels very believable.
01:01:27
Speaker
That's kind of the way it went, I think.
01:01:32
Speaker
Fair enough.
01:01:34
Speaker
All right.
01:01:34
Speaker
We only have like three more left.
01:01:36
Speaker
So moving on to stuff that we found out.
01:01:39
Speaker
What was this?
01:01:40
Speaker
Was this this week?
01:01:41
Speaker
I don't even remember.
01:01:42
Speaker
Or was it late last week?
01:01:43
Speaker
It was earlier.
01:01:44
Speaker
It was like Monday.
01:01:45
Speaker
It was like Monday.
01:01:46
Speaker
Oh, yeah.
01:01:46
Speaker
This was the last of aggression month.
01:01:48
Speaker
We found Infiltrator Skill, the upgrade.
01:01:51
Speaker
Garrett, you haven't talked in a while.
01:01:53
Speaker
Give us a rundown of Infiltrator Skill.
01:01:56
Speaker
I like this one.
01:01:57
Speaker
I mean, any kind of one cost plus one plus one I think is worth it.
01:02:02
Speaker
And getting Saboteur just makes it even better.
01:02:04
Speaker
And just being a single red, there's no other anything to put on it.
01:02:11
Speaker
This is going to go in most aggro decks probably because busting through shields or just ignoring Defender or Sentinel will just... That's what you want in that kind of deck.
01:02:25
Speaker
Fair.
01:02:26
Speaker
Wyatt, you concur?
01:02:28
Speaker
I don't know anything about curve in this game, but I actually question if this is above curve.
01:02:33
Speaker
The 1-1 plus the ability to, for sure, bypass shields and sentinel, which is things that, like, if I'm playing a deck that wants to buy time, I'm going to be doing one or both of those things.
01:02:46
Speaker
and the fact that a card can come along that bypasses both those strategies while also making a body stronger seems very good.
01:02:52
Speaker
I agree this seems like an aggressive, perfect upgrade card for an aggro deck, and it's almost too perfect, I think, because what does aggro want?
01:03:02
Speaker
The ability to bypass all the things to slow down them killing.
01:03:08
Speaker
100% fair.
01:03:08
Speaker
Nick, what do you think?
01:03:09
Speaker
Yeah, I don't think you're playing it outside of aggro, and it seems like it's probably good enough to make it into construction, constructed for some aggro.
01:03:19
Speaker
I don't know if you put it in everything, but it probably depends on how much...
01:03:24
Speaker
sentinels being run which I assume everyone's gonna run some amount of sentinel I don't know at the very least I don't see how this doesn't make it in like every aggro sideboard as a yeah it's a fantastic it's gonna get played because it's gonna at minimum be in a sideboard yep yeah I think I go farther I think right now I was telling people like any red deck should probably be running three of these
01:03:48
Speaker
Even if you're slower mid-range or control, because why not?
01:03:52
Speaker
Like, you're going to go against other decks that have shields, have sentinels, and this counters that.
01:04:00
Speaker
And I think, like, there's, like, a math thing in play where, like...
01:04:04
Speaker
If, like, if you and your opponent both play, like, you know, three cost, you know, three attack or three power, four health units, and then you make yours a four five that can eat theirs without dying, like, that's huge, because then you're putting the onus on them to have, like, another answer just to keep card advantage even, and if they don't, you're getting ahead on base damage, like...
01:04:23
Speaker
Plus one, plus one can't be under, I don't know, you don't want to underestimate it because of the way it changes on curve trades.
01:04:31
Speaker
And again, it's like about board control.
01:04:33
Speaker
Like if my guys live and your guys die, and then all of a sudden you're having to do other things just to catch up.
01:04:38
Speaker
But like in the meantime, I'm hitting your base for four damage a pop a couple extra times.
01:04:43
Speaker
Like that adds up.
01:04:44
Speaker
Yeah.
01:04:45
Speaker
Yeah, the only downside, like the only reason I think it's maybe not too over curve, like why I said, is that like upgrades always have that inherent risk of, you know, opening yourself up to being two for one.
01:04:55
Speaker
You pop your upgrade and they're like, here's my one card removal that, you know, removes both of yours.
01:05:00
Speaker
And then you feel real bad about yourself.
01:05:02
Speaker
Or a way.
01:05:04
Speaker
But you didn't pay for it.
01:05:06
Speaker
Yeah, but at least you don't pay a lot for it, and you can pick your moments to use it.
01:05:11
Speaker
Being able to punch through to an important thing hiding behind Sentinel, it's hard to say how often is that going to happen, but it is going to happen sometimes, and just being like, you think, oh, aggro, I'm going to put this on my guy and go face, but no, if you're playing more like a midrange-y thing with red, you could still play this as if your Sentinel is not the most important thing to kill.
01:05:35
Speaker
It is just the thing that I have to kill.
01:05:37
Speaker
to control the rest of the board, but be able to pop Veers behind Sentinel.
01:05:41
Speaker
That could be huge.
01:05:43
Speaker
Yeah, as I said, we see that already because you see in like the Tarkin deck that round three, they'll drop the Emperor's Royal Guard.
01:05:50
Speaker
Round four, they'll drop Veers and Veers is an official.
01:05:52
Speaker
So it makes the Emperor's Royal Guard a Sentinel.
01:05:55
Speaker
but you need to kill the veers because veers is giving all of the imperial units plus one plus one here's your answer you put it on your three drop not only can it just swing past the sentinel it's also going to kill veers without trading like yeah and then you can also end up killing the the friggin you know emperor's royal guard on the next attack or you know your next chance so it also it also puts your five hp units out of takedown range
01:06:21
Speaker
that too i would say this could be pretty good in boba too just because boba also doesn't like boba has you know in the five with between bosk and boba and little boba like you got some like solid stat lines of like for for their costs and like just not necessarily like you have surprise strike kind of thing well no surprise strikes here is no surprise it's not hero is it no it's just neutral yellow yeah
01:06:47
Speaker
So you have Surprise Strike to punch up, but also you just don't have a lot of permanent buffs in Red Boba, so you'll be able to pop through the...
01:07:01
Speaker
Sentinels could be still pretty good at that.
01:07:03
Speaker
I think Boba liked just having more one cost things.
01:07:06
Speaker
Yeah, and the fact that it's the one cost things.
01:07:08
Speaker
You could play it, attack, trade, attack something, and maybe go for the two for one because that extra health might not make you trade.
01:07:17
Speaker
And then at that point, then you get your resource back.
01:07:20
Speaker
Yep.
01:07:21
Speaker
Nope, all fair.
01:07:22
Speaker
One last thing on infiltrators.
01:07:25
Speaker
Oh, sure, go for it.
01:07:26
Speaker
Based on what I've learned tonight, if I play this on a two-cost unit that has three power, I can kill Dooku.
01:07:34
Speaker
So there, this is our counter Dooku card.
01:07:37
Speaker
It's true.
01:07:37
Speaker
You can street counter Dooku.
01:07:40
Speaker
Kill his shields, and then kill.
01:07:42
Speaker
That is something we actually haven't seen, I feel like, a lot of, or at least I haven't run into a lot, is the shield-killing aspect of Saboteur.
01:07:50
Speaker
obviously versus certain decks it can be huge it's just i haven't seen a whole lot of it because we just don't have a ton of saboteur out there but you know like aggro is not going to be caring about your shields as much if they're just trying to punch base but like you know if you are using this on something that's still using saboteur to maintain board control the shield kill could be very clutch yeah cheap upgrade removal
01:08:15
Speaker
Still standing by every red deck should be playing three of these until proven otherwise.
01:08:21
Speaker
I don't care if you're aggro control or whatever.
01:08:23
Speaker
Moving on.
01:08:25
Speaker
The Devastator.
01:08:27
Speaker
Our newest ones.
01:08:29
Speaker
Our newest ones.
01:08:30
Speaker
Our biggest ones.
01:08:31
Speaker
I think this is the most expensive unit we've seen.
01:08:34
Speaker
Wyatt, tell us why this is amazing.
01:08:37
Speaker
Okay, well, first of all, it's a 10, 10, 10.
01:08:39
Speaker
We've already established that things that cost the same as its power and health is symmetrical.
01:08:44
Speaker
And if you play it on 10 resources, it will deal 10 damage.
01:08:48
Speaker
Right, yeah, you deal damage per unit equal number of resources, which is absolutely insane.
01:08:52
Speaker
That's 4 times 10.
01:08:52
Speaker
That's 40 power.
01:08:54
Speaker
That's 40.
01:08:54
Speaker
This is a 10, 10, 10, which is everything I've ever wanted from tonight.
01:08:59
Speaker
No, realistically, it's got, I think, probably the two best keyword combination you can have for a game ending card.
01:09:06
Speaker
people have to go through it and it goes over everyone else.
01:09:10
Speaker
So that feels like a really good thing.
01:09:12
Speaker
Like, I think even if this was just a 10, 10, 10, that did 10 damage.
01:09:15
Speaker
Over one wasn't going over, it's going through more.
01:09:19
Speaker
Sure.
01:09:19
Speaker
Sure.
01:09:20
Speaker
But, but like, again, if this was a 10, 10, 10, that did 10 damage on play, it would be interesting.
01:09:26
Speaker
It wouldn't be amazing, but it'd be interesting, right?
01:09:28
Speaker
Like we've already established like a seven, seven for seven, isn't that spicy, but could have its uses.
01:09:34
Speaker
A 10, 10, 10 that also deals 10 on play would be strong.
01:09:38
Speaker
And on top of that, it has Sentinel and Overwhelm.
01:09:40
Speaker
So obviously if you're playing this, you're either winning or losing because it's pretty late game and this is a huge unit.
01:09:45
Speaker
Um,
01:09:46
Speaker
but it comes with the right flashy things to accompany its cost.
01:09:51
Speaker
But it just dies to Doom Blade.
01:09:53
Speaker
What about that?
01:09:54
Speaker
The Doom Blade?
01:09:55
Speaker
What's Doom Blade?
01:09:57
Speaker
Some magic reference.
01:09:58
Speaker
It dies to Vague.
01:09:59
Speaker
It dies to the removal.
01:10:01
Speaker
I mean, yeah, but it did something.
01:10:04
Speaker
It killed something as well.
01:10:06
Speaker
It did 10 damage on play.
01:10:08
Speaker
I mean, it does say, like, if you don't remove me now, you're pretty much toastered.
01:10:15
Speaker
The only downside with this is just like, does the game get to round 10?
01:10:19
Speaker
That's like the biggest downside to me.
01:10:21
Speaker
Does it get to the 10 resource turn?
01:10:24
Speaker
And that's assuming you didn't even ramp, which you probably did by the time you got there with your green villain.
01:10:28
Speaker
If you're playing this, you're playing ramp.
01:10:29
Speaker
Yeah, if you're playing this, you're playing a ramp deck.
01:10:31
Speaker
This is 100% a Timmy card.
01:10:32
Speaker
Hell yeah.
01:10:37
Speaker
this will definitely see play.
01:10:38
Speaker
Whether or not it's like in every, I don't think it'll be in every green deck because you're not going to be able to play it against everything.
01:10:44
Speaker
The very least, again, it's probably going to be in sideboards being like, do I need to cut down my curve and prepare for against aggro or do I need to push up and have a late game threat that'll win against other stuff and this will do that.
01:10:59
Speaker
If you don't need to worry about aggro and you think you can go the long game, this thing is going to help close you out for sure.
01:11:06
Speaker
I like it.
01:11:07
Speaker
I think that's the hard part.
01:11:08
Speaker
Like, in my double-grain Tarkin that already runs Super Laser Technician for ramp and already runs Command that can ramp, I think I slot this in because...
01:11:19
Speaker
I have my ways of ramping an extra resource or two.
01:11:22
Speaker
I can play this out round seven probably in a lot of games, and that feels real good as a closer.
01:11:29
Speaker
I think it'll see play in double green, because you can ramp.
01:11:33
Speaker
You have at least six ramp cards, right?
01:11:37
Speaker
If you run double green, you can run resupply too, so you can technically have three super... Nine ramp cards.
01:11:43
Speaker
Resupply, super laser, command.
01:11:45
Speaker
That's a lot.
01:11:48
Speaker
I don't think this is the card to make Galactic Ambition playable, even though it's the most expensive one, because taking 10 damage to your base still sounds super terrible.
01:12:00
Speaker
And I don't see many positions where you'd be able to do that.
01:12:07
Speaker
Agreed.
01:12:08
Speaker
That's a no for me, dog.
01:12:09
Speaker
But this card, I like it.
01:12:12
Speaker
Unless we have those cheaper event cards that we talked about earlier.
01:12:15
Speaker
Then maybe.
01:12:16
Speaker
Yeah, yeah.
01:12:19
Speaker
Yeah, Galactic Ambition is still waiting for a multi-piece combo that we have not been privy to yet.
01:12:27
Speaker
For sure.
01:12:28
Speaker
I don't know, man.
01:12:29
Speaker
Sorry, what?
01:12:30
Speaker
Taking 10 to your own face to deal 10 to something else very well could be worth it.
01:12:35
Speaker
To be fair, Galactic Admission is the 7 cost event, so you still have to have 7 to play a 10 cost at the expense of taking 10.
01:12:41
Speaker
Yeah, you take damage equal to your cost.
01:12:43
Speaker
And you wouldn't even deal 10 damage, you'd only deal 7.
01:12:47
Speaker
It would only be a 10, 10, 10, 7, and then you'd feel really bad.
01:12:50
Speaker
And while that's worse, I still feel like there's going to be times where if somebody was already going to hit you in the face for 7, and you can play this and take 7 to your own face to take that thing off the board, it's worth it.
01:13:03
Speaker
So there's going to be plenty of use cases where this becomes interesting.
01:13:06
Speaker
That's fair.
01:13:07
Speaker
Let's do it.
01:13:09
Speaker
I mean, Zero Hour will try it.
01:13:10
Speaker
He'll try anything.
01:13:11
Speaker
I will literally try any deck.
01:13:13
Speaker
I don't care.
01:13:14
Speaker
I don't care.
01:13:16
Speaker
Fair, fair.

Character and Card Strategy Discussions

01:13:18
Speaker
And then last, but certainly not least, other than in stature, the ardent sympathizer.
01:13:26
Speaker
Some people were calling him mini bays.
01:13:27
Speaker
I kind of heard that.
01:13:29
Speaker
He is mini bays.
01:13:31
Speaker
He's after it.
01:13:32
Speaker
This guy is neutral.
01:13:33
Speaker
He doesn't care who he kills as long as he kills someone with his repeating blaster.
01:13:38
Speaker
He is sympathizing with something.
01:13:40
Speaker
Yeah, he's sympathizing with something.
01:13:43
Speaker
Nick, what do you think of this guy?
01:13:47
Speaker
I mean, I don't know.
01:13:49
Speaker
This one's probably a skill issue kind of card, as of how well you can manage initiative.
01:13:55
Speaker
If you feel like, if you're in a position where you are having it more often than not, obviously a 5-3 is very good and pretty much kills all the other 3 drops that you'd ever...
01:14:06
Speaker
want to kill.
01:14:07
Speaker
But the problem is, like, so early game curve, like right on three, it can happen quite often early game.
01:14:13
Speaker
I play a one drop, you play a two drop, you play a two drop next turn.
01:14:18
Speaker
I play a three drop, you play three drop next turn, attack with it.
01:14:22
Speaker
Like, essentially to the point of there's a possibility that if everyone's just playing one unit on curve and attacking with it, that
01:14:32
Speaker
early game initiative is more or less determined by who got it to start with.
01:14:36
Speaker
So it might be one of the things of you might not play this out as much if you did start with the initiative.
01:14:46
Speaker
If you do, it seems really good.
01:14:48
Speaker
At the same time, a 3-3 for 3 is fine.
01:14:51
Speaker
I don't know.
01:14:52
Speaker
It seems really good in draft.
01:14:55
Speaker
Yeah, there's a lot of 3-cost, 3-4s.
01:14:57
Speaker
So if you don't have initiative...
01:15:00
Speaker
It's potentially very bad.
01:15:02
Speaker
That is true.
01:15:02
Speaker
There are quite a bit of those.
01:15:04
Speaker
But it's one of those things you could just resource it if you don't have initiative.
01:15:10
Speaker
Yeah.
01:15:11
Speaker
You don't have to play it.
01:15:13
Speaker
And then you can play it when you do have initiative.
01:15:16
Speaker
I mean, first of all, short kings unite.
01:15:19
Speaker
Short kings unite.
01:15:21
Speaker
Even if you do have initiative, you're like, aha, I get my 3-5.
01:15:24
Speaker
And it's like, yeah, you get one attack for an extra couple damage, but then...
01:15:29
Speaker
your opponent kills it or or your opponent hits like claims first and then kills it with a three four or something like i don't know i feel like there's ways your opponents can just make it fall apart and then you're not happy yeah so but it's a common single aspect card we can't expect much i do love the art though i do yeah i really do like the art
01:15:53
Speaker
I think it's pretty versatile.
01:15:55
Speaker
You don't see a lot of Celestians.
01:15:56
Speaker
Isn't that what they're called?
01:15:57
Speaker
Celestians?
01:15:58
Speaker
Celestians.
01:15:59
Speaker
Celestians.
01:16:00
Speaker
Yeah, Celestians.
01:16:01
Speaker
Were you saying why you feel what?
01:16:04
Speaker
I feel like the fact that it doesn't have raid, but it just gets the plus one initiative is cool.
01:16:08
Speaker
Like that it rewards you for not just swinging, but also for playing a certain type of tempo.
01:16:14
Speaker
And like I did the math, and if you put Infiltrator skill on it, then it can hit as a six for bypassing shields, but it still dies when they play Dooku on top of it.
01:16:26
Speaker
So you can take out their Dooku and they get counter Dooku, which is a problem.
01:16:29
Speaker
But here we are.
01:16:29
Speaker
If your three drop trades into a Dooku, you're pretty happy.
01:16:34
Speaker
Let's be clear.
01:16:34
Speaker
It's three drop with another card.
01:16:36
Speaker
So it was a two for one.
01:16:38
Speaker
Still two for one.
01:16:40
Speaker
The math was done.
01:16:41
Speaker
Anyway, that's all the spoilers that we had.
01:16:43
Speaker
Does anybody have a favorite spoiler out of all those?
01:16:47
Speaker
It's probably Dooku.
01:16:49
Speaker
Probably Dooku, yeah.
01:16:51
Speaker
I think I agree with you there.
01:16:52
Speaker
Dooku, is your favorite you're not going with the A-Wing?
01:16:55
Speaker
I like the A-Wing.
01:16:57
Speaker
There's a special place in my heart for Dooku because of Destiny.
01:17:00
Speaker
So he'll always be a card I'm going to try to make work.
01:17:04
Speaker
If I had to pick another one, it would probably be the A-Wing because I like it a lot.
01:17:08
Speaker
The A-Wing is fun.
01:17:09
Speaker
Yeah, I don't know.
01:17:11
Speaker
I don't like the A-Wing because I don't want to ever have to deal with it.
01:17:15
Speaker
Because I know I'm not going to necessarily play it a lot because I'm not going to play that aspect combination as much.
01:17:19
Speaker
So I don't like the A-Wing just because I don't want to deal with it.
01:17:23
Speaker
He doesn't like it because he's going to lose to it a lot.
01:17:25
Speaker
That's what I'm hearing.
01:17:25
Speaker
That's exactly what I was saying without sounding his butt hurt.
01:17:29
Speaker
You guys are all sleeping on the season, Shore Trooper, who living up to his name is a very tasty snack.
01:17:35
Speaker
He is very hot.
01:17:36
Speaker
It's not bad.
01:17:38
Speaker
And I don't think you saw Wyatt.
01:17:39
Speaker
There's another one from a little bit before, which is 3-4 for 3.
01:17:44
Speaker
They gain Sentinel at 6 resource.
01:17:46
Speaker
So kind of like another along the theme of not as good, but gets better.
01:17:50
Speaker
So basically becomes an automatic Royal Guard minus the Imperial synergy.
01:17:56
Speaker
Yeah, I actually immediately like that archetype just from the curve options.
01:18:00
Speaker
The more resources archetype.
01:18:01
Speaker
Yeah, it's a good archetype.
01:18:04
Speaker
It's fun.
01:18:04
Speaker
Like...
01:18:06
Speaker
It's fun to have cards that give you payoff later in the game.
01:18:09
Speaker
That are okay early in the game.
01:18:11
Speaker
The only trade-off is that they're merely okay in the early game.
01:18:14
Speaker
They're not great.
01:18:16
Speaker
I'm just stressing that if the Rebels were looking to get exactly one person to defect, everyone would be going after this map.
01:18:25
Speaker
Because he's just that hot.
01:18:27
Speaker
He's that hot, right?
01:18:28
Speaker
Who do you want?
01:18:30
Speaker
On the Rebels, you want the hot guy.
01:18:31
Speaker
So let's go for it.
01:18:32
Speaker
I'm just imagining all those short troopers on the beach, volleyball game, taking their shirts off.
01:18:40
Speaker
They keep the helmets on, though.
01:18:42
Speaker
They keep the helmets on.
01:18:43
Speaker
The helmets don't come off.
01:18:45
Speaker
That's where their comms are.
01:18:46
Speaker
They got to stay on comm.
01:18:48
Speaker
But straight Top Gun...
01:18:50
Speaker
Shirtless volleyball.
01:18:52
Speaker
Dude, now our mind's eyes are completely in sync.
01:18:54
Speaker
This is perfect.
01:18:55
Speaker
Yes.
01:18:56
Speaker
On the beach.
01:18:57
Speaker
There we go.
01:18:59
Speaker
Anyway, that's all we have to talk about this week.
01:19:02
Speaker
We're already almost on an hour and 20 minutes.
01:19:05
Speaker
That's what we get for skipping.
01:19:08
Speaker
That's what we get for skipping.
01:19:09
Speaker
Does anybody want to talk about?
01:19:11
Speaker
What?
01:19:12
Speaker
Yeah, there's one other thing we really have to talk about.
01:19:15
Speaker
What's that?
01:19:17
Speaker
It's Cunning Month.
01:19:18
Speaker
And that's the only thing that's coming up is the cunning stream next week, right?
01:19:23
Speaker
Yeah.
01:19:23
Speaker
No, there's something else.
01:19:26
Speaker
Your nose?
01:19:27
Speaker
You got a nose job when you were gone.
01:19:28
Speaker
You're right.
01:19:29
Speaker
You're right.
01:19:29
Speaker
It's not my nose, but there's something to make even my cold heart excited.
01:19:37
Speaker
I don't know.
01:19:38
Speaker
Who wants to venture a guess?
01:19:39
Speaker
Garrett, do you know what it is?
01:19:41
Speaker
No, I'm not sure, but it might be something to do with cunning cards.
01:19:48
Speaker
I don't know.
01:19:49
Speaker
It's something to go on the back of Vin Diesel's car.
01:19:52
Speaker
I think it's a spoiler.
01:19:56
Speaker
Family?
01:19:57
Speaker
He's putting his family, right?
01:19:58
Speaker
That's all he cares about, the family on the back of the car.
01:20:00
Speaker
We're going to leave that metaphor behind, but I hear we have spoilers.
01:20:03
Speaker
Is that true?
01:20:05
Speaker
Maybe.
01:20:05
Speaker
Cannot confirm or deny, but you might want to pay attention next week.
01:20:11
Speaker
We have Schrodinger spoilers.
01:20:13
Speaker
There might be something that we can share.
01:20:15
Speaker
Yeah.
01:20:17
Speaker
Next week's going to be a big week.
01:20:18
Speaker
I think not just for us, but Wednesday we have the cunning podcast from FFG for the start of cunning month.

Conclusion and Future Content Teasers

01:20:27
Speaker
And, uh, yeah, I think, uh, Oh, that's the exciting thing.
01:20:30
Speaker
I got chance cubes.
01:20:33
Speaker
I did.
01:20:35
Speaker
Galaxy's Edge.
01:20:37
Speaker
You're like, I'm ready for deciding who goes first.
01:20:41
Speaker
That is a great way of doing it.
01:20:43
Speaker
I do like those.
01:20:45
Speaker
I like that better than just roll a D6.
01:20:48
Speaker
Exactly.
01:20:49
Speaker
That ties and it feels really annoying.
01:20:52
Speaker
Even when you roll a big die.
01:20:54
Speaker
It always happens.
01:20:55
Speaker
I'll roll a D12 to figure out who goes first.
01:20:59
Speaker
Somehow it'll still tie.
01:21:01
Speaker
Then we're like, I got to roll again.
01:21:02
Speaker
Oh, it's still tied.
01:21:05
Speaker
Can't do that with a chance cube.
01:21:06
Speaker
Always bring a D1000.
01:21:08
