Go Get Your Ghoul: Scream 2

Transcript

Speaker: Man, oh man. What a world we live in. ah How are you, Katie? I'm

Speaker: what the What the listeners missed in the green room was Emma had an existential moment of dread ah where I heard a siren. And maybe it was a siren that was like to honor 9-11. don't know.

Speaker: i don't know She says siren. She means like like a tornado siren. like a Yeah. Like a...

Speaker: Yeah, like ah like a civil warning system. Not like... Yeah. once Which is what I thought she was talking about for a long time. No, no. It was like one of those like emergency sirens. Yes. and And, and my first thought when I heard the siren because of the world that we live in, as I was describing to Katie was, well, this is it.

Speaker: We had a good run. Guess I'm never going to have children. Didn't have a great run. Like the run that we had was okay. Okay. It's really all been downhill for a while.

Speaker: Yeah. I mean, like we lost Dolly Parton. That's true. That's true. Yeah. And Tim Curry.

Speaker: And Tim Curry. So, I mean, honestly. This is it. That's it? Okay. That's it! No, that I feel like it's going to be more like that when Julie Andrews dies.

Speaker: I mean, well, here's thing. Julie Andrews is very old. She's very, very old. Okay, okay. She's timeless. Okay. She's timeless. Okay, all right. I'm so sorry.

Speaker: It's okay. I, um... I forgive you. So, Things...

Speaker: Things aren't great in America. Like, we have a lot of international listeners, I'm sure, that, um... But, you know, things aren't great anywhere, really. i don't know if anybody's, like, just having a great time in their country.

Speaker: But, like, you know, the Nazis are back in Germany. Like, that's not good. Nope. Nope, nope, nope. Oh, but I did read a book that I think you'd really enjoy. I tell you about this? i Did I tell you about this last time? i can't remember. I don't think um Bury Your Gaze by Chuck Tingle. Oh, yeah, I've heard of it. No, you didn't tell me about it, yeah.

Speaker: It's so good, but also so real right now. Yeah, for sure. So it's about this um this gay um screenwriter in l LA, and he his whole thing is that, like,

Speaker: He hates how in gay cinema um all of the LGBT characters have to be either sacrificed or kill themselves or something tragic has to happen to generally miserable, yeah. Just generally miserable. And so like he writes um gay horror and gay sci-fi. And his two protagonists um in the episode of the TV show that he's writing...

Speaker: um where they come out um as being in love with each other, the studio wants him to immediately kill them off. And he's like, I don't want to do that. And so in then all of his characters from his like past horror movies start popping up and like um and threatening him. And what you find out is that this is a world where studios have embraced AI and Of course, yeah. And they um have utilized it in such a way that um they can make entire movies with dead celebrities' likenesses, so much so that the the dead celebrity is nominated for an Academy Award. and um

Speaker: And essentially, they're utilizing that to sort of, like, manhandle their screenwriters into doing what they want and writing the things that they want. Yeah.

Speaker: because they they know what's most profitable because they're a computer. It's terrifying and I haven't given too much away because there's lots of twists and turds, but it is very relatable, especially with everything that's coming out in the news right now having to do with AI. and so like I wonder if that put helped put you into the mood that probably that caused the the spiral after the siren. The spiral? Yeah, probably.

Speaker: That and learning that there is a nuclear bunker underneath the White House ballroom.

Speaker: That's being... I mean, I'm sure the White House always had a nuclear bunker. I mean, what was it? It was like... I mean, I guess it was in West Virginia previously, but, like, that's kind of a trip, but... Yeah. I just don't like the fact that they're building a new one because they feel like they need it.

Speaker: Well, yeah. I mean, that's the thing. Like, the the worst... Like, the... These things, they think that that they don't affect them. You know, like, that's that's the thing. Like, all these rich people billionaires have bunkers because they don't care if the world gets destroyed. They'll be fine.

Speaker: Right. But have you read World War z the book, not the movie? I did a long time ago. yeah okay. and This is, like, every time I, ah like, I'm talking about how, like, the billionaires think that, like,

Speaker: the disaster in the world can affect them. I think about that one vignette in World War about all the like celebrities and billionaires at like a bunker in LA and like trying to escape the zombie apocalypse.

Speaker: And because everyone's stupid, somebody got bit. And you know what happens to all these billionaires? Yeah. Bye bye. We can only hope one day.

Speaker: One day. Give us a zombie apocalypse. um ah I would rather not. and I would rather not. That happened. We can just hope that one day they'll all die. um That too. Listen, these people will die eventually.

Speaker: Yes. Eventually. Maybe. Probably not before we do. Which is insane. They get the cancer that they that they have the secret cures to, and we get the cancer that kills you.

Speaker: Right? They get their brains put into little jars and then put on little robot bodies just like in Futurama. Yeah. Like Al Gore in Futurama.

Speaker: Yeah. Al Gore, Disney, many other characters in Futurama. It's hundreds of them, yeah. Hundreds of them, some might say. um But yeah, this dark and depressing outlook...

Speaker: is an excellent segue into our foray into spooky season. I mean, I don't know. I consider spooky season to be fun and lighthearted, but you know, I mean, going to lie. This movie pretty fun.

Speaker: Not so lighthearted. It's pretty dark. Yeah, it is. It is both fun and, and mean, equal measure. Like this is kind of a mean movie.

Speaker: I love it. I love it so much. But um that's right, guys. You guessed it. This is Go Get Your Girl. This is the podcast where Evan- No, no, It's not go Get Your Girl. Sorry. This is Go Get Your Goo.

Speaker: Oh, oh, oh. Crash. That was a thunder crash. um

Speaker: That's how all thunder happens. um Yes, that's right. You guessed it. This is the podcast where Emma and Katie are just trying to be theater majors in college.

Speaker: We're just trying to live our best lives in college. But the trauma that we experienced back in our hometown of Woodsboro, Woodsboro, California, Um, it's, it's coming back to haunt us first via a book that another survivor news person wrote that got turned into a movie.

Speaker: And then by all the people thinking it's funny to harass us because of said movie. Right. And then by the return of the killer from said traumatic event. Well, it's a different killer. Like yeah it's, yeah.

Speaker: But if you put Ghostface as like right right like this omniscient sort of being, even though Ghostface is always going to be someone different because that's impossible. And that's one of the things I love about Scream.

Speaker: Yeah, they're mysteries. Yeah, they're mysteries. They're like Scooby-Doo. ah A little bit. Yeah. ah And um we got to figure out.

Speaker: who's killing off all our friends slash randos with names that are very similar to the people that have died and also can't we just star in our greek tragedy play uh ah that's right guys you guessed it i'm emma and i am katie and today we are talking about scream 2 Yeah!

Speaker: From 1997. This movie came out, listen, so Scream 1 came out December 20th, 1996. I didn't know that. as a christmas It came out at Christmas, basically. was a Christmas?

Speaker: Yeah. And then this movie, well, apparently not. It was a huge hit. This movie came out December 12th, 2007. So, less than a year later.

Speaker: They had this movie... helen What did I say? 2007? You said 2007, yeah. It was 1997, right. It wasn't 11 years. It was just one year.

Speaker: Just one year. So they turned this thing around so fast because they had a huge hit on their hands. So much so that in the top 10 movies of 1997, now, number one was a movie you might have heard of called Titanic.

Speaker: But Scream 1 and Scream 2 are both in the top 10 for 1997. Because Scream 1 was released like in the last two weeks of 1996. Yeah, so most of his money was made in 1997. That's incredible.

Speaker: Also of note, James Cameron ah was worried about Scream 2. So he moved the original opening date of Titanic later to not compete with Scream 2. Who knew?

Speaker: That's how big of a deal this was, yeah. Wow. um So yes, or you made liver yeah this movie was written by Kevin Williamson, who wrote the first Scream. He wrote um i Know What You Did Last Summer. He has made several television shows, including My Beloved the Vampire Diaries. Yep, yep, yep.

Speaker: Beloved is strong. It's not a good show, but I like it. i like parts it. you love it. It's beloved, yeah. Yes. Um, ah and a bunch of other stuff. Um, and directed by, of course, Wes Craven, who made A Nightmare on Elm Street and all the first four Scream movies and many other things. And he loves to remind you that he made Nightmare on Elm Street.

Speaker: Yeah. He loves to remind you. Cute little bits. Yeah. Yeah. And this is like, this is their, their take. I mean, like, yeah. So it's a, I think this is a really, really great film.

Speaker: um it's really the only direction they could have gone. Like, yeah based on how game-changing and how, like, again, because horror was dying, and they even have a line in this movie where Randy says, sequels killed horror. Yeah. Yeah, but Scream brought it back.

Speaker: Yeah. Horror movies were really on a decline in the early part of the 90s. They had so many, like, tries and fails on rebooting franchises and trying to continue the franchises of the 80s, and audiences had moved on. Like,

Speaker: The Gen X kids, you know, that were getting older um had rejected all that stuff because it was cheesy. It didn't speak to them. And Scream really, really changed that. And Scream 2, think they thought a lot about how to make the sequel the right sequel to Scream because it's kind of got to be... It's not quite a parody, but it's also not 100% serious. it like It has to maintain that like sarcastic view of horror as a genre that the first one had, but you have to take it even further. Like Randy says like in the sequel, like the sequel

Speaker: like in this movie sequels have to be bigger bloodier there has to be like more you have to have more and i think that they really leaned in with the sarcasm and the sort of like um so much socio like commentary um on who gets to survive Yeah, there's a lot. And this is still pre-Columbine, but there's a lot of talk about, like, do, can you blame movies for violent actions? Like, um that is kind of the the the killer's, like, idea, you know? Yeah. That I'm going to blame this on the movies. Like, I'm yeah going to to go to trial, and I'm going to get off because I'm going to blame it on on violent movies. Yeah. Which, you know...

Speaker: Maybe he would have he hadn't gotten shot a million times. Who knows? Freaking Steppenwolf actress extraordinaire Laurie Metcalf hadn't shot him 85,000 times because she didn't believe in his case. Well, ah spoilers for the killers in Scream 2.

Speaker: but Spoilers for the for the killers in Scream 2, yes. I mean, it's it we we need we do know you're right we do need to spoil it now because there where there's there's things we can talk about. um yeah all we We spoil every movie we watch on Go Get your Girl and Go Get Your Ghoul. So um you should have been prepared for that, honestly. That's your fault. And honestly, it's been almost, what, 30 years since this movie's come out? has been 29 years, yes. Yeah.

Speaker: If you haven't watched it by now, go watch it. Yeah. It's great. Both of us are too young to have seen these movies in theaters, I think, right? Exactly. Yes. You didn't go see this movie when you were like 10 years old, did you? No, no, no. No, no, no. This was not in the like weird genre of movies that my mom allowed me to watch as youth.

Speaker: No, no. I think- When Scream 3 came out is when I saw, I watched Scream 1 and Scream 2. I think we rented it. And then I, actually, I don't think I saw Scream 3 in theaters either, actually, come to think of it Because I have a very vivid memory of watching it on the TV in my bedroom. So um I didn't see any of these movies. When the Blair Witch Project came out, we snuck in.

Speaker: That is scary. We bought tickets to the mummy and snuck into the Blair Witch Project and it scared the absolute shit out of me because we thought it was real. Yeah, yeah everyone did. They told us it was real. There yeah the be there wasn't Wikipedia to tell us it wasn't real.

Speaker: It was the first case of um Hollywood lying to the public. I mean, I think that movie scared me so much that I have, I forgot that I saw it in theaters for a long time. And I was, my friend Jessica, listener of the show, Jessica, one time I was, we were talking about it and she goes, no, we saw that in the theaters. And I'm like, did we?

Speaker: Because I think maybe even on this podcast and certainly somewhere I've i've said that I didn't see Blair Witch Project in theaters. And then she reminded me that, no, we saw that in theaters. We snuck in. blacked it out as like half of the people who went to see that movie did you know like that movie made so much money but think about how much money they'd made if all the all the kids who snuck in tickets to see it right because it didn't buy tickets to see the mummy and for the fifth time and snuck in the Blair Witch Project

Speaker: goodness um ah anyway the Blair Witch Project is not what we're talking about today no we're talking about Scream 2 baby about Scream 2 but like this was everywhere I remember like even if I was too young to see the movie I know everybody like dressed like Ghostface at Halloween yeah like the costume was everywhere like it's a scary costume it's terrifying And they kind of, they lean into that immediately. Like this kind of, I mean, again, it's only been a year. So there's only been one Halloween since the first screen. So they really, they knew what they were doing because this movie starts with the, a sneak preview, not even the premiere.

Speaker: A sneak preview. Of the movie Stab. Stab. The brilliant conceit um and what makes this movie so good. um ah The idea is that Gail Weather's book has been turned into a movie. Now in the world of the movies, it's been two years, I think since. Yeah. Yes.

Speaker: Yeah. She's, Sydney is now in college. She's, like and it seems like she's like a little established, but like still like, I think a freshman.

Speaker: Oh, see, I wondered if she was a freshman or a sophomore, because I guess we don't Maybe she was a sophomore. We don't know if she's a senior in Scream, do we, do we say? Yeah, we don't know. Yeah. We don't know. I think that, like. It doesn't matter. I mean, it's filmed in California, but it's Ohio. Yeah. And it's definitely warm, so my guess is it's spring or, you know, maybe it's like May. Yeah, but there's lot of leaves changing.

Speaker: Oh, really? Okay, so it like September, October. Yeah, noticed a of leaves, so it feels like September, October. Well, then she's got to be a sophomore. She's got to be a sophomore. She's got to be a sophomore. Those relationships are like, she has those relationships. She's got a boyfriend. Like, all of that happened freshman year, and now she's a sophomore, yeah. Yeah, exactly. Exactly.

Speaker: Exactly. But we don't start there. We start with Omar Epps and um Jada Pinkett at the premiere for the movie Stab. My wife's name out of your fucking mouth, Jada Pinkett Smith. Yes, yes, yes. Well, I don't think she's she's Smith yet, right? She's not Smith. Just Jada Pinkett.

Speaker: um she uh and they have this she has this constant commentary like omar epps has taken her to see this movie she doesn't want to see that she wants to go see a sandra bullock movie omar epps says nobody wants to pay 750 to see some sandra bullock shit like we do i would 750 for a movie sounds amazing are you kidding movies are like $18 in Chicago. Yeah. Yeah.

Speaker: I mean, i will pay that to go see Practical Music. practical Practical Music. Practical Magic 2. And I don't think that movie's to be very good. Yeah. It really, like, it doesn't have the buzz around it like I thought it would. It doesn't. Like, I heard about it and now it's like it opens this week and I'm like, oh, really?

Speaker: yeah i didn't Yeah. I didn't know it was that far along. Yeah. um I feel like that's a failure of marketing more than anything. I haven't seen a trailer for Practical Magic 2. I've seen a few. I think that they've gotten a lot of backlash um because of ah recasting the daughters. um because of the Oh, it's not Evan Rachel Wood?

Speaker: No, no. It's Joey King and... um ah oh Oh, God. What's her name from Game of Thrones? Little... sword fighter with the stabby stick oh um maizey williams yeah maizey williams and joey king oh so they've i understand they they they don't want sandra bullock and nicole kidman to be too old exactly sandra bullock and nicole kidman need to be playing 15 years younger than they actually are so they need to hire exactly younger actresses to play the kids get it because this sequel takes place 10 years after the first movie not 30 years

Speaker: so and evan and rachel wood was like yeah they never even tried to contact me the only person that contacted me was joey king to get my take on the character and i thought that was really nice um wish them well yeah well i mean you gotta realize it's hollywood you kind of have to understand this oh my god wait when did you practical magic come out 1997 same year scream 2 1998. Yeah. So it's been 28 years and they're acting like only 10 years have passed. That's crazy. That's insane, right?

Speaker: They can't do that. like You're 60 years old, girls. Just accept yeah it. you know Just accept it. like Be the new 60. Nicole Kidman's so hot in Practical Magic. like I'm just looking at the, like, Jesus Christ. She's so good. I mean, she's still hot. They're both beautiful women. Like, it's okay. virgin Just embrace it. Like, have adult daughters. like Have a 40-year-old daughter.

Speaker: Exactly. Jesus Christ. Like... And we can, like, make Evan Rachel Wood younger. She's also hot. Yeah. And the other one as well.

Speaker: Yeah, exactly. I don't know if she's still an actor, but, like, bring her back for this. Have Joey King play that one. Exactly. day. I think they've got a whole lot of an act that. None of that is relevant.

Speaker: None that is about Scream 2. Yeah. Scream 2. So they're going to see Stab, and Jada Pinkett is, like, the first thing out of her mouth is, like, you know, black people don't do well in these movies, which is... Yeah. A direct response to the lack of black people in Scream 1.

Speaker: Yep. And of course they have to get killed first. Of course they do. Because Jesus fucking Christ. Well, I think actually. But there lot of commentary on it.

Speaker: Yeah, yeah, yeah. it's it's it's a It's a fun, like, faint, you know? Like, she is, she's a named actress, um much like Drew Barrymore in the first one. they yeah you know, they know what they're doing. They have to have another, a big set piece at the beginning before the title drop.

Speaker: you're going to see stab it's an insane theater i have seen i've never been to a movie like this you see this in maybe is this what theaters are like in los angeles because i've never been to a movie like this and you see them in movies all the time where everybody's running around so excited and like everybody's like throwing popcorn at the screen and like like i've never been to a movie like that that seems like a nightmare Yeah. I mean, nobody's watching the movie. Everybody's just screaming at it. No, it's already started. Like the credits are up and people are still wandering around.

Speaker: Yeah. And like, just like talking and doing a bunch of shit and like screaming. And I'm like, ah is nobody going to watch the movie? Has everyone already seen the sneak peek like 85 times? No, this is the first time. sit down, pay attention. Exactly.

Speaker: goodness but then we get we get our first glimpse at the movie version of the first movie which love a movie in a movie i love a hat on a hat sort of situation it's so good heather graham is playing the drew barrymore part yes she is everything is a little worse like it's intentionally like it's like He thought about like, what if I had had a lot of studio interference in this movie? What if they had turned Scream into like the trashy slasher movie that it specifically wasn't trying, it was trying not to be. Yeah. And that is, and that is what Stab is. Like yes it's, it's the same story, but it's all turned a little down. Like none of the, none of the, the wit is there. Like,

Speaker: it's it's really it's really cute and yeah arch um how they managed one of the um the first shots of heather graham is her like getting into the shower and jada pinkett is like why does she need to go in the shower this is so stupid this is so ridiculous like yeah this makes no sense um it's just it's very tongue-in-cheek and yes yeah her popcorn doesn't pop The other thing we should say is that the as they first come in the theater, they're given Ghostface costumes. Yes. Like, the studio. Like, just the mask.

Speaker: Full, like, Halloween, spirit Halloween bags. Which is, like, that's that's, like, a big, that's like that's it it's a pretty good swag for going to a movie. like And they get a little stabby stick. Glow-in-the-dark knife. Yeah.

Speaker: yeah just So everyone in the theater could be Ghostface. They're all dressed like Ghostface. It's a really fun premise. um ah She goes to get popcorn um and then he's like, I gotta go to the bathroom. And so she goes back to the theater alone. She doesn't want to see the movie in the first place.

Speaker: And he's in the bathroom and he goes to the stall and he hears this like little noise in the stall next to him. Like, does he think someone's fucking? Like, what does he think is happening? It's, well, I like kind of gridty i hit the i had the close captions on and it was like, and the words on the screen were like, yes, mommy. Okay, mommy. I'll be good, mommy. Jesus! So it's like, more creepy than anything else. Yeah. But does smile. Like, I don't understand what he thinks he's hearing.

Speaker: But he puts his ear right up to the thing, which, like, how did... How did Ghostface know that that was what was going to happen? Exactly. I don't know. Nobody. no Yeah. He puts his face like right up next to the, the, the, the stall and he gets stabbed through the stall into the head, which. Yep.

Speaker: Yikes. Insane. Absolutely insane. Well, maybe Ghostface was looking at his feet. Oh, maybe I suppose so. Yeah. i am Yeah. Um, ah so. that That's the rationale there.

Speaker: We cut back to the theater and Jada Pinkett and he like Ghostface has put on Omar Epps' jacket and sits down next to, but with the mask on and sits down next to to her. And she like cuddles up against him immediately. Does not recognize that that is not Omar Epps. And like, so it's it's Timothy Olyphant. And I suppose like their build is fairly similar. I think to me that Timothy Olyphant is taller than Omar Epps, but like- They're both kind of like.

Speaker: Yeah. And it's a dark theater. He's wearing his clothes. He's yeah's not that far off a difference in terms of height. Yeah. Where it's like noticeable. Yeah. Yeah. I would totally think that that's Omar Epps.

Speaker: Yeah. Yeah. It's it is. It's fairly reasonable. Like, yeah, it's definitely not Laurie Metcalf in this one. Yeah, it's definitely not Laurie Metcalf. She would notice that, I think. Exactly. um so she cut so snuggles up next to him and then she realizes that he's covered in blood. And she sees her hands and her hands are covered in blood. And then he stabs her in the gut.

Speaker: Yep. And she stands up and tries to like get attention, but nobody is paying attention. Yeah, everyone thinks that this is part of it. Yeah, he stabs. Well, I mean, for one thing, they do have a thing that's like stab-o-vision. And they have like ghost faces fly over the audience, like House on a Haunted Hill, like William Castle.

Speaker: Yeah. um ah And so she staggers up on the stage and he stabs her like a bunch more times and dies like in front of the the theater, which also like, it there's like a stage in front of the in front of the screen. It's like an old timey movie house. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I thought you were goingnna say, why is there a stage? And i was like, Katie, some movie theaters have stages. Yeah, that's true. It's an old timey house. The music box has a little stage. Exactly. We've been to one.

Speaker: she She dies just as people start to realize that someone's dead. we get the the title card title credits. The title credits. Scream 2. And then it we get to um to Sydney Prescott. And she's in college. And she's in her little dorm room. And she gets a phone call. And the first phone call is a ghost face. And she goes, who is this? And here and you know they do the... you know Hi, Cindy. Do, like, And...

Speaker: Girls, like, she's on it. She is, like, protecting herself, and she's smarter in the sequel. She got a caller ID. Yeah, which in 1997, kind of a big deal, yeah. Was niche. And so she was like, ah she immediately goes, okay, whatever your name is, 5550263, did you know that it's a criminal offense? And he goes, ah, come on!

Speaker: Yeah. It's great. It's great. Yeah. We have, and we see on the TV, Cotton Weary, the Leah Schreiber's character, who is the guy who was put in prison in the first movie for killing Sydney's mom, who didn't do it. um He's being interviewed by Kevin Williamson, the screenwriter.

Speaker: I didn't know that. And Sydney is trying to ignore it because the movies come out and like people are, there's more prank calls now because the movies come out. Her roommate Hallie is played by Elise Neal.

Speaker: um and we should talk real quick. So there was a script leak for this movie. Oh. This was one of the first like internet script leaks that happened.

Speaker: um ah Again, 1997. Very early internet stuff. right I was like, on what website? Only the real nerds. like Can you imagine how long it must have download you taken you to download the screen to screen? Jesus.

Speaker: Jesus. And in the original screenplay, the killers were Derek and Hallie, her roommate and boyfriend. Now, um Debbie Loomis was still like orchestrating it. It's kind of like Scream 6, where there's like, there's a person who's like getting these kids to do it. yeah And she kills both of them.

Speaker: And Gail dies too in the original screenplay. Yeah. Now, something like way later, I think it wasn't until so that that screenplay got leaked and they had to change the the ending that as they were still shooting. and The screenplay got leaked and they changed a bunch of stuff. Now, Kevin Williamson claimed years and years, I think 2019 even, that that screenplay that got leaked was fake and it was intentionally like a fake screenplay in case of a leak. But I think that I think some people don't believe that's true. But he's just trying to like he like a lot of work.

Speaker: Yeah, I mean, they definitely do that now, like for Marvel movies and stuff. And I know Shyamalan and stuff, they definitely have fake screenplays in case of leaks and stuff. Yeah, and they'll like doctorate the trailers and stuff. In 1997, I don't think that was something that they probably thought ahead of. If it was, it was probably a first draft that he was just like, well, blah, blah, blah.

Speaker: like he didn't write a whole fake screenplay. Yeah, yeah. Um, ah so yeah, so... That's why they make the comments later in the movie. Where they're like, uh, well, like, they're he's they're constantly like, it's your boyfriend, it's your boyfriend, it's your boyfriend. But then, like, there's, um, uh, I think Randy makes a Oh, right. Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's usually white men who are killers. Yeah. Yeah. And he's just like, but what about, what about your roommate?

Speaker: What about your friend? It's probably someone you already know. He or she or they. That's true. He does say or they. I think he means more than one, but we can pretend that he meant non-binary people. Yeah. Randy was before his time.

Speaker: Yeah. ah Randy is there. Randy and Cindy went to the same college for some reason. Yes, it trauma bonded. Yeah. Yeah. They went to Windsor College in Ohio, which is actually Agnes Scott College in Georgia, which is an all women's school.

Speaker: And beautiful campus. It is. Yeah. We meet Randy, who looks like the devil in this movie. He's got a little goatee. He's got this weird little Lucifer goatee. i love it. he's He's a weird little freak and I don't like him.

Speaker: I love Randy. He is in film class with Joshua Jackson, a pre-Dawson's Creek Joshua Jackson, who has like five lines in this movie. Good for him. There's five lines. And then they're like, bye, Joshua Jackson.

Speaker: See you later. Well, Kevin Williamson creates Dawson's Creek after this. Oh, he does? remembered, he's like, I'm going to get boy number one from film class to be in Dawson's Creek. Yeah. I love that.

Speaker: And then there's also Sarah Michelle Gellar, our Scream Queen extraordinaire. great Sarah Michelle Gellar. She is in season two of Buffy the Vampire Slayer right now. So she's huge. Yep.

Speaker: And she's like, she's film girly. Yeah. I love her. She's, she's got so many layers. She's film girly and she's in a sorority. She's really, she's the woman that can have it all.

Speaker: Well, she gets thrown off a roof. You know? They're having a conversation about sequels. And this is where Randy says that sequels killed horror movies, which is true. yeah And they have the they challenge each other to name one good sequel. And of course, you know, Mickey is there. Now Mickey is Timothy Olyphant.

Speaker: um ah The great Timothy Olyphant. He looks like a little baby in this movie. He's such little baby.

Speaker: And He started the first thing he mentions is aliens, which is a great sequel. And Randy and CC, Sam Rauchel-Gillard, dismiss this. Yep. um Because they think the first alien is better than the second alien. I don't think that's true. I think both those movies are masterpieces in different ways. They're both pretty entertaining, but you can't have the second without the first.

Speaker: Well, sure, but i think that I think that Aliens, in a lot of ways, is just as good as the first as Alien. it's But Aliens is an action movie, and Alien is a horror movie, and they're they're too different to compare. Yeah.

Speaker: Terminator 1 and Terminator 2, also, great sequel. You know what's funny, Katie, is that they don't bring up Blade 1 Blade 2. Yeah.

Speaker: blade one and blade two Well, those movies weren't out yet. Yeah. Also, because Blade 3 is the best one. Well, Blade 2 is definitely better than Blade 1. And that is that is a good example. But those movies hadn't been released yet in 1997. So but Blade 3 is the best of all three. It's absolutely not true. It's an insane opinion that no one has.

Speaker: Yeah. So, well, they do come up with a Godfather Part 2, in which point everyone's like, OK, yeah, fine. We found one. Yeah. Yeah. But here's the thing also that like Randy later on, um discusses like when Timothy Oliphant, they're at the fraternity frat party and he goes, Oh, here, Empire Strikes Back. That one's way better than the original. And he goes, it doesn't count. It's part of a trilogy.

Speaker: Technically Godfather is also part of a trilogy. Well, he says, same he says that Star Wars was planned as a trilogy from the beginning, which At the time, George Lucas was certainly telling people it was. I think in real life, it wasn't really. Like, I don't think he had the whole thing planned out before the first movie came out. he was going to have Luke and Leia fuck.

Speaker: godfather was not planned as a trilogy godfather one and two came out two years apart and then godfather three didn't come out until the 90s um okay okay so that's that godfather three definitely wasn't planned as a trilogy that was okay the godfather three also notably sucks i've never seen the godfather part three but it has that it's a reputation of like almost ruining francis ford coppola's career like really sophia sophia coppola is in it and is so bad like when her first movie came out everyone thought like but she couldn't possibly be talented because she was so terrible in the godfather 3 well anyway um that's neither here if you want to hear us talk about the godfather and the godfather part 2 you can join our patreon where yeah which might not be launched by the time this this episode comes out probably not no but i'm gonna try

Speaker: where we're going to talk about, um, The working title is ah Movies Boys Made Me Watch or something like that? Yeah. Boy Watch This? Yeah, A Boy Made Me Watch This or um Movies Boys That I Fucked had posters on their walls.

Speaker: it Jesus. I don't think that is going to work because that title is too long, has a swear in it, and I've i've not fucked that many boys. So that's going to be a problem for me.

Speaker: it's It's not meant to be literal. It's meant to be an allegory. ah Okay. All right. Well, we'll talk about it. We'll workshop it Yeah. We'll workshop it. We'll workshop it.

Speaker: Anyway, film class is wild. Like, that is also, like, that's not what film class is like. Nope. They're just all sitting around talking about movies. Like, I wish film class was like that. me too. Right.

Speaker: Well, film class I really enjoyed. um I took history of cinema and it was every other class you watched an old movie and then the following class you discussed the impact of that. That's what ours was. Ours was um Mondays and Wednesdays and Wednesdays was like a lab at night in the in the theater on campus where we all watched the movie together and on Mondays we discussed it.

Speaker: wait, must have been Monday, Wednesday, Friday because then I think on Fridays we had class as well. Anyway. oh No, I loved history history of cinema. I think that's probably one of my favorite classes of all of college. It's one of the ones that stuck with me the most, that's for sure.

Speaker: Yeah. um Yeah, I mean, I had, yeah, I enjoyed that. was my My class was, I think I took world cinema because it was like, it was a lot of foreign movies. um And I don't know, I think just a lot of people in that class were assholes um was the problem. Like, I didn't have a lot of great, like, stimulating film conversations in that class. Yeah.

Speaker: Mostly somebody yelling over somebody else. yeah I don't think anyone got that jazzed in um my film class because I think a lot of people took it just because they thought they could just watch movies.

Speaker: But then were disappointed when it was old movies. Well, there you go. um ah Yes. So um then we have Randy... um So Sydney has heard about the murders, um goes and finds Randy. They're walking together. And this weird scene where Randy is doing an English accent for some reason. Yeah.

Speaker: For like four lines. I have no idea. Like he's supposed to be wacky, um i guess. i don't I don't get it. I don't care like about Randy. I find Randy very annoying.

Speaker: love Randy. I know. know you I'm happy for you. i Thank you. i think he's really annoying. We meet O'Connell. He is the conscience of the Scream franchise. And as soon as they kill him off, when Scream 3 comes back, the conscience is gone. He's on video in Scream 3. And we're replaced with teeny tiny little bangs on Gail Weathers.

Speaker: Teeny tiny little bangs. Gail Weathers gets turf bangs. She gets turf bangs. 3 is my least favorite and I have seen it maybe only twice. i I enjoy Scream 3 for what it is.

Speaker: um I've seen it two or three times. Scream 1 is obviously my fave. But like... We've done our Scream rankings before. We did it in the last the last time we did Scream, yeah. I can't remember what I said.

Speaker: i think you said Scream 2 won, actually. I think you said Scream 2 was your favorite. I love Scream 2. I could be wrong. um This movie's very good. I don't like it better than Scream 1. like Scream 4 better than Scream 3.

Speaker: Is that the one with Emma Roberts? Yes. Yes. I need to do a rewatch of all of them. That's just what happens when whenever this like I watch one of these is I've got to finish it. Yeah. um Did you ever see Scream 7? The latest one? The much maligned Scream 7, yeah. No, it just got to streaming. Charlie said that last night, and i was just like, well, I heard it was bad, but I'm going to watch it anyways.

Speaker: I don't think I'm going watch it. i've got I mean, the whole thing that happened with that where they fired the the actresses and then they um and then they're like the screenwriters left, like I don't think I'm interested in it. Maybe this is our Mummy 3.

Speaker: Yeah, it's it's the Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, yeah. Yeah, yeah. um Yes, so Gail it has come there immediately to Ohio because of the murders. Because she she has to.

Speaker: And she has regressed from the end of Scream 1. Yep. she All of her the life lessons she learned, ah just gone. yeah Oh, I was kidding. Jerry O'Connell is dating Sydney. That's her boyfriend. His name is Derek O'Connell.

Speaker: Yep, and he dresses like he runs a used car dealership slash insurance agency. I don't... 1997. Don't ask me why. Constantly wearing khakis. your can picture it a suit for both of those those occupations, but maybe I'm wrong. He looks like he's somebody's dad playing golf at the country club and drinks too much whiskey and hits on... That's how white boys dressed in the 90s. Why is he talking in his shirt?

Speaker: That's what they did. looks like he should be selling insurance. He's like, no, he's very, he's very hot. That's what was, that's what was, that that's what was hot in 1997. Oh God. i questioned a lot of Sidney's taste in that. Like I can get behind Billy Loomis.

Speaker: Anybody can get behind Billy Loomis. Billy Loomis is hot as hell. Yeah. But this clown? No, no, that guy, he, I mean, he's good casting. He's very like,

Speaker: He's such, he's he's just kind of doofy and sweet, but like there's so much possible menace behind him. Yeah. Have you watched Furious, Emma? Oh my God, I'm obsessed with it. Okay, I haven't finished it, so no spoilers. I haven't finished it either. i haven't watched the last episode.

Speaker: Okay, I think I've got three episodes to the end. But like Jake Lacey is such good casting in that show because he normally plays such a sweet doofus and him as this like, like guy you could see why she's attracted to, but also is like, just has this horrible like menace and like, it's such, it's such good casting to cast like a, a sweet doofy guy in that role. Right. Right. Cause you're constantly like, Oh my God, wait him.

Speaker: he's the abuser like as soon as they like did the reveal of like hit he's he was emmy rossum's ex-boyfriend who beat her up i was like him yeah no that's what those guys look like sometimes yeah that's what those guys look like and like and you can totally buy it whenever i don't know if you got to the point where he drinks himself silly and then attacks yes yeah yeah um where she gets him drunk intentionally yeah yeah oh no like afterwards No, I haven't gotten that far. Okay, never mind. I got three episodes left. I know. I it's i watched like i watched like the first three episodes like really quick and then like I got to to one episode and I'm like, i this is rough. like It's such a bummer. It's so good, but it is such a bummer. But like also, I saw a thing because I forgot that

Speaker: elizabeth meriwether created it yeah yeah and um they were like in yeah they were like in um when the world was millennial optimism elizabeth meriwether gave us new girl when the world was this elizabeth meriwether gave us furious yeah yeah um yeah so um ah we meet oh laurie maurie metcalf plays debbie salt um the not made up name of debbie salt yep who is a local newspaper woman who is like competing with gail um and gail and gail hates her immediately of course yeah she's like i went to your seminar in chicago i was the one in the front row asking all the questions yeah yeah We meet Joel, who is the new camera the local cameraman that Gayle has hired, who Gayle is mean to, and he doesn't want to die. That's his main character. That's his whole personality, is he doesn't want to die.

Speaker: um We have Louis Arquette as the police chief, who is David Arquette's dad.

Speaker: This is one of his final film roles. He died not too long after this, but yeah, he is the he was ah he was an actor in the 60s and 70s. Yeah. he's yeah and He's the father of all the Arquette kids.

Speaker: Well, there you go. Do you think that um David was like, hey, Dad, um I'm doing this movie. Do you want to come along? you want to hang out? Yeah, quite possibly, yeah. yeah um We have Portia de Rossi and Rebecca Gayhart as the sorority sisters. Yes.

Speaker: And this happens every single time. Every single time we watch this movie, Charlie goes and he's obsessed. Okay. I'm going to pre prelude this with Charlie's obsessed with Arrested Development. He loves Arrested Development.

Speaker: He loves that show so much. Most of that show is very good. ah Most of that show is very good. i And every time you watch this movie, it gets the scene where we meet Portia de Rossi and the other sorority sisters. and he goes, Oh,

Speaker: who's that blonde chick on the left? She looks so familiar. And I go, are you freaking kidding me?

Speaker: You have watched Arrested Development like 85,000 times, Charles. That's crazy. i I think he might have face blindness. It's possible. um So they want, sit so Hallie, her roommate, is pledging their sorority. Yes. Which maybe they are freshmen. If they're pledges, if she's pledging.

Speaker: I mean, I guess you can pledge in sophomore year. You can pledge in sophomore year. yeah Yeah, exactly. They want Sydney to come and join their sorority. Sydney does not want to do that. They want the famous girl in their sorority, obviously.

Speaker: Yep. And then it's Dewey. Dewey's there. Yeah, Dewey shows up. And he's like, hey, I'm back. And he's got his little injuries from the first movie. And he yeah can't run and he can't walk. And he's got a weird little hook hand. Yeah. He doesn't have a hook hand. You're thinking of Scary Movie. No, but like he walks like this.

Speaker: It's a little hook hand. it's Yeah, but yeah a hook hand implies that he's lost his hand and he has a hook. he's No, his hand is in the shape of a hook. He's got some kind of like muscle damage or neuropathy or something in his yeah in his hand. um A hook hand.

Speaker: A little hook hand. He has a limp and his his arm is kind of like messed up. Yeah. But he's there because he almost died in the first. He got stabbed a bunch of times in the first movie. Yeah.

Speaker: And and he has a scene with Gail where he's like, you know, he's quoting her book, like her shitty book that she wrote and like how she made him look.

Speaker: Page 83. Detective Deputy Dewey oozes with incompetence. Yeah. Yeah. And he's mad at her. And like, they like, they kissed in the first movie, right? Yeah. They kissed in the first movie. They had like this whole like moment, like Gail found her conscience and then immediately wrote a book and sold it. And then she lost all of it.

Speaker: Yes. Yes. Yes. Because the movie, the first movie ends with her like doing the broadcast. Yeah. Yeah, exactly. So um he's like, what happened to you? You know, like, yeah. Nice streaks. Yeah. Yeah, nice streaks, he says. She's got these, like, red, like, highlights or whatever in her hair. It looks bad. Yeah.

Speaker: Gail just can't win. Yeah, well, she's she's brought Cotton Weary there to Ohio to gotcha interview with Sydney. Yeah. Because, again, at first, Sydney's, like, happy to see her, but, like, she doesn't realize that, you know, she's heel-turned on her again.

Speaker: Yeah. um Well, she's not that excited because the whole movie and stuff. She's like, Gale? Right, but she's does she doesn't immediately assume Gale is there to to cause problems. No. Yeah, yeah, yeah. No. um She's surprised when Gail turns on her to make a ah ah career play. Yeah. Yeah. And like Sydney's whole thing is that she does not want to talk to the press. She does not want to do any interviews. She just wants to move on with her life. Like even though 2020, like all of the publications are like hammering her for an exclusive and she's just like, Yeah.

Speaker: I don't want to talk about this. I just want to go to college and be a teenager. Thank you. Bye-bye. We go to the sorority party where Portia de Rossi has a great line where she says, hi, and I really mean that.

Speaker: Hi. Yeah, I know. Hi.

Speaker: Then we have, see, we cut to Sarah Michelle Gellar at a different sorority. Well, she's back at her house, at their house. yeah Yeah, but she's not in that sorority. She's in a different sorority. Yeah. She's a sober sister.

Speaker: Yep. um Because her sorority is having a function in another house and she has to be there to be, to be there in case, you know, somebody who's drunk and needs help. no, no, no, That is not what's happening.

Speaker: They are co-chairing a party with the fraternity house that yeah um Jerry, what's his face, is is a frat in. It's actually, it's actually a third for fraternity. It's, it's confusing. Because Jerry O'Connell's um fraternity is Omega Kappa Beta. You see it on his shirt.

Speaker: And what did she say? She says it's like the Phi Gamma Moos or something like that. What? This whole time, I thought that, Because Jerry O'Connell's fraternity is is allied with the the Beta Omega, whatever. they're Whatever they are. The Portia sorority. We didn't need this many fraternities and sororities. Let's just make it clean. Too many.

Speaker: So Sarah Michelle Gellar is sober sister, which she's in the house alone. Yep. um and she gets a phone call because of course she does of course she does that's what this movie is about it's about getting phone calls well she's on the phone with her friend and she's talking about some soap opera or it's sarah it's selma blair oh she's talking to selma blair oh i didn't know that oh katie's fun fact Katie's fun in fact Katie's fun fact I did not know that uh but she so she's talking to Selma Blair and then she's like oh hold on call waiting and so she gets on the other line and she assumes that this guy whether it be her boyfriend or just some guy that she hooks up with all the time Ted. Ted and he's super drunk and he's just in he's on the phone. um But of course it's Ghostface. And so she goes back to Selma Blair and she's like Ted's on the other line. He's loaded.

Speaker: And she goes, ah he only ever calls you when he's drunk. And she goes, I know. ah and so then she goes back and she goes, Ted, what are you doing? And he goes, who's Ted? And she goes, oh, I'm so sorry. i just presumed. And then he starts getting creepy and scary. And she's just like, I'm out of here. Absolutely the fuck not. And she leaves the house.

Speaker: But because we are in 1997, she doesn't have a cell phone. She has a handhelds. um cor portable phone stops working when she steps onto the porch and she tries calling campus security but they can't hear her yep and she leaves the door open when she walks back into the room she sees there's another sorority sister who jump scares her and she's there to to change clothes or something and she leaves and while she's talking there's this great shot where they're in the foreground the two of them are talking and you see ghost face walk in the front door

Speaker: oh i've missed that i've seen this movie like 85 times really oh there's a music thing on yeah yeah you see him come in the front door and he's not on the phone so this is another clue is that there's two killers mean there's in all of them except for three there's two killers mean i don't know about seven know who the killer in seven is actually but i assume there's two killers yes so he slips in while she's on the phone and then we have this whole like you know, eventually this chase scene. And she runs upstairs. She, one of the things that I like about Scream is Ghostface is not, like, he's not Michael Myers. You know, he's not unstoppable. Like, Ghostface slips and falls and gets stuff thrown at him and crashes and, like, all kinds of It's so good because the thing that I also love about Scream is

Speaker: too is the direct like shot for shot parodies they do in scary movie two um which is the like number one the like the movie scene um which is great and oh god with a glory hole in the bathroom with the glory hole in the bathroom which is more believable that he put his ear up to it To a glory hole?

Speaker: To a glory hole. But then like the throwing stuff as you're running up like endless stairs. I was like, why are there so many fucking stairs in this house? And she's like throwing everything. It's a big house. yeah She like throws like a lamp at him. She throws a bike at Uh-huh, uh-huh.

Speaker: It's just so good. um And he catches her up on the like third floor balcony, stabs her, and throws her off the roof. And yeah ah Sarah Michelle Giller did her own stunt. she did her of course yeah she's healthy that's what she does yeah yeah there's a really great interview of her from have you seen ready or not too have yes it's great i really enjoyed it um it's okay i love sarah michelle gellar i i didn't love geller i thought the movie was not nearly as good as the first one but i i do love sarah michelle gellar yeah um sean haddesee is really good in those well yeah oh yeah that's her brother yeah

Speaker: Yeah. ah From the pit. From the pit. Yeah. um And, ah but, ah so, Sarah Michelle Gellar and Frodo Baggins.

Speaker: Oh, Elijah Wood. Yeah. or Yeah. Elijah Wood were giving an interview and she was talking about, like, how they all had to go to, like, you know, weapons training. Yeah. and do all this stuff. And so she went with like the weapons training guy, and like she had to do weapons training for like the big old bazoo.

Speaker: She's a sniper in that movie. Oh, yeah, she has that she has a rocket launcher as well. Yeah. yeah she And like the old school like gun, i think. But she had to like learn how to use the old school gun, and it took her like two seconds, and then they were like, okay, well...

Speaker: do you want to learn any of these other ones? And she was like, every time she would pick up a weapon, she was like, and I'm amazing at this da dada da because of Buffy baby. Well, I mean, she uses a rocket launcher in Buffy the Vampire Slayer famously. Like, yes, she does. She has, she has experience with a rocket launcher from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Yeah.

Speaker: Yes. So good. So, so good. I need to rewatch Buffy. I love it. it's It's my favorite show. Um, yes. So she's dead. um Then we cut back to the sorority where, again, I think this is Portia DeRossi again. She goes, everybody thinks sororities are just about blowjobs, but that's not true.

Speaker: Yeah, we promote safe sex and condoms. just it's just a It's just a funny thing to say. like i know. Sororities are about blowjobs. It's very funny. Notably, we don't see Jerry O'Connell at the party until after Sarah Michelle Gellar has already been killed and then Jerry O'Connell shows up. I mean, the way that they structure...

Speaker: the the characters in this movie running into Sydney immediately after someone else has been killed is, it's just very cute and fun. Especially after the first scream, you everyone is like trying to figure out who did it throughout the whole movie. Exactly. Because it was such a reveal in first scream. they keep twisting you around like, who is this? Because again, like and and Randy says this later, it's like, it was the boyfriend of the first one. It can't be the boyfriend of the second one. You can't do that twice. Yeah. yeah um Or is it a double fake out? You know, like you never know.

Speaker: Exactly. And then Laurie Metcalf is there also before Gail is there. Laurie Metcalf gets there quickly. And she's like, I've got a deadline. Yeah. And like Laurie Metcalf, God, Laurie Metcalf is, yeah, so she's on a deadline and she has to get to a phone. And then not long after that, the phone rings at the sorority and Sydney answers it. Yeah.

Speaker: Yeah. done the like investigation watch of like oh this is why this and and look at all this i just sort of let the let the nonsense wash over me so hearing like all the little like bits and bobs and how they're related is really fun yeah there's it's tracked like you can definitely find online like who is who whose ghost face when this happens whose ghost face when this happens who's on the phone this time etc like It's all pretty much there. um He's in the mask most of the time. Yeah.

Speaker: Because he's he's a lot bigger. He's a big strong man. Yeah. Yeah. yeah So this is, but this is definitely Laurie Maccalf talking to her in the sorority house and there, and Ghostface attacks her. Yeah.

Speaker: And then again, she runs into Jerry O'Connell and he's outside Ghostface is inside. yeah So we know he's at least... You know, there's at least two of them if he's not if he's not one of them. Yeah. But then he, she's like, he's in there and he runs in after ghost face. And then we get this bit where Dewey goes in and finds him and he's been cut, but he's like, he got away. And then he points.

Speaker: And then the sorority sisters are standing right there. So if he got away, why did they not see him? Exactly. And they're standing there like the twins from the shining. Yeah. Yeah. So part of this is like, was he intended to be ghost face when they shot this scene yeah because like yeah how else would ghostface get out yeah yeah so what way yeah where were they like in the in the shooting when when the the script got leaked and they had to change stuff when they they changed everything so because it definitely makes you want to think that it's him um and then you know sydney starts to think it's him they go to the hospital and they're like and dewey starts to think that it's him

Speaker: it really missed all of the the nerves and everything, and you're going to be fine. It's a totally superficial cut. yeah You're lucky to be alive. Why didn't he kill you? this guy And it is should be said that Jerry O'Connell's character is pre-med. And it's yeah said multiple times that he's pre-med. So, like...

Speaker: um Randy is just like, oh, how coincidental that the pre-med student boyfriend who's gotten close to Sydney just happens to get cut, but every it gets missed every single major artery. Yeah, yeah. they And this is when um Dewey and Gail figure out that the names of the people who were killed have the same names as the people who were killed in the first movie, and they're they're going in order.

Speaker: Well... Kind of. Because it's the first names of everyone except for Omar Epps. Omar Epps is the only one where it's his last name. And that's where I'm like, what?

Speaker: Well, you know, it's, um you know, it can't be too odd. It was exactly their first name so that everybody would have figured it out faster, you know? And it's because Cece goes by Cece instead of Casey, which is her actual name. so Yeah. Yeah.

Speaker: And ah so then Sydney gets these detectives who are her bodyguards. She's starting to to think that Derek might be involved and she tells him that, you know, you need to stay away from me because just I don't want you to stay safe. Yeah. Gail asks Dewey for help, but he's still mad at her.

Speaker: And then we have this really weird scene where Jerry O'Connell sings I Think I Love You the Partridge family ah to her in the cafeteria. Well, it's a, um isn't it like a direct reference to Top Gun?

Speaker: Yeah, it's a reference to Top Gun. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah. um yeah Where they sing um You've Lost That Loving Feeling to Women in Bars. Yeah, yeah. Because um Timothy Oliphant is like, he's doing Top Gun. He's doing Top Gun.

Speaker: Yeah. Yeah. He lavaliers her, which... fraternities and sororities have different rules about these things. Apparently in this world, ah like the fraternity gets fake mad at you for lavaliering your girlfriend and has to like yeah punish you.

Speaker: um That is not my experience. The college I went to lavaliering was expected and normal and required. In some schools, you need to pin someone before you lavalier them.

Speaker: And in some schools you need to lavalier them before you pin them. So it's all very, it's very confusing. it's very It's very different based on different fraternities and sororities in different colleges. But basically, it's a necklace that has his Greek letters on it.

Speaker: Yes. And this is where they're like, you're not supposed to do that. they're like, well, you know, everybody does it. But his fraternity brothers going mad at him. So that's yeah foreshadowing. Yes. Exactly. Yeah. So we have the Tori Spelling joke where we see an interview with Tori Spelling.

Speaker: With our our queen of Access Hollywood. I forget her name. Blonde lady from Access Hollywood. don't Our entertainment tonight. One of the two. They're the same. They're the same. And um this is the first of Emma's Fun Facts. Emma's Fun Facts. So this is a direct callback to the first movie in that um they are talking about how if their lives got turned into a movie in the first one, Cindy's like, oh well, knowing my luck, they get Tori Spelling to play me. And then in the STAB movies...

Speaker: She is played by Tori Spelling. And they got Tori Spelling to play her. And it's so great. It's Tori Spelling and Luke Wilson. And unknown Luke Wilson. Like Luke Wilson known yeah had done Bottle Rocket, which was like Wes Anderson's first movie, which was yeah very small and not a not a hit at all.

Speaker: And he's got the ridiculous ah hair for play Billy Loomis. Sweaty mop. Yeah. And then we also, we find out that um Randy mentions that Dewey's played by David Schwimmer.

Speaker: Yeah. It's funny. There's a lot of like friends call, like call outs in this, like later on when they're talking about um the nudes that got leaked of Gail Weathers. She was like, it was my face, but Jennifer Aniston's body.

Speaker: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Which very famously, they're best friends and like, you know, godmother to her and David Arquette's children, you know. Yeah. And this is when we have the rules of the sequel from Randy talking to Dewey. And he's know. And they're at a, um don't know if you noticed this product placement, Katie. ah They're at a Baskin Robbins.

Speaker: Oh, okay. I did notice that. Sure. Yeah. Yeah. he's giving him the rules of the sequel. He's like, it could be anybody. It's probably somebody, but it's probably somebody from her past. So like the people that, you know, it's, it's more likely somebody that she, that she knows or even somebody from Woodfield. Um, so he's like, he goes through all the suspects. He's like, you know, Mickey's a a suspect, but if Mickey's a suspect, I'm a suspect. So let's not talk about that. Yeah. Right.

Speaker: Right. Yeah. And yeah, he says it's got to be bigger. It's got to be darker. The kills have got to be bloodier. This is like classic trailer material for a screen. Exactly.

Speaker: Exactly. And just like some of my favorite Randy material when he just like mansplains what this movie is going to be the movie. Because again, I love a hat on a hat.

Speaker: Yeah. um This is when he says it could be Gale. And Dewey's like, Gale's definitely not the killer. And he says, well, she's not a killer. She's a target. Then we cut to we cut to to drama class. Yeah.

Speaker: Drama class is an interesting drama class. um So it should be said, for whatever reason, because we got no hints of this from the first movie, but Sydney Prescott, she wants to be an actor.

Speaker: She's a theater major. She's a theater major. And she's got her first starring role in Troy. Okay, so here's the thing. The play they're doing is Agamemnon,

Speaker: yes Cassandra is absolutely not the lead of Agamemnon. Nope. like It's a rewriting called Troy because I saw a poster for it in the background in the films. in the um Oh, really? It's not Agamemnon? No, no, no. no there's It's called Troy. Oh, weird. Okay, so I don't know what, yeah, because Cassandra's definitely not the lead of Agamemnon. Like, I mean, Clytemnestra maybe would be the lead of Agamemnon. Like, it's it's a Greek play. there's there's so yeah There's a lot of parts.

Speaker: They just couldn't get the rights. They couldn't get the rights to Agamemnon. Right, yeah. This appears to be a dress rehearsal that they're doing. Well, first she has this conversation with her theater ah teacher where he's like, are you going to fight? like It's so like theater major-y. Oh my God. Yeah. He's like, are you going to fight? And she goes, I'm a fighter. And he goes, I don't believe you.

Speaker: And then she goes, I'm a fighter. Yeah. I don't believe. And I was waiting for him to go again. i don't believe you. Yeah. Yeah.

Speaker: I mean, that what they wanted, they needed a play with masks, right? That's the point. Like, they needed to do masks. So they had to do a Greek tragedy. Yeah. So there there is there this seems to be a dress rehearsal in the middle of the day. Yeah. Class tech rehearsal.

Speaker: Yeah, because there's like um there's like the thunder and the lightning and everything the fog and everything. And the flies. Yeah, the flies. um Yeah. Which is crazy. I mean, like, in in when you do a play with masks, you do have masks for every rehearsal, but you certainly don't have everything else. She's in full hair and makeup.

Speaker: She is. yes she she She doesn't have a mask, but she's in full hair and makeup and costume. She goes from her like street clothes to full hair and makeup and costume in 30 seconds yeah and to give her little monologue about being, you know, ah Troy, blah, blah, blah. Troy has been betrayed. blah blah she's She's Cassandra, which like lines up with Sydney, I guess. and that you know She knows what's going to happen and can't get people to believe her. But then that's that's the case in the first scream, at least.

Speaker: Yeah. Yeah. So there's this whole bit where the people in the masks are menacing Cassandra and suddenly she sees one of them is wearing the scream mask instead of the Greek mask. And she freaks out and everybody's like, what's what's wrong?

Speaker: What's wrong? Derek is there immediately again. yep She's like, leave me alone. Yep. And then we have the Randy scene. ah The Randy scene. The scene where they're like trying to find, we're talking about the Randy scene.

Speaker: Yeah. Yeah. rant Gail keeps getting this call these calls that she's ignoring. This is like early cell phones. Randy answers the phone. It's like Gail's not available. And then it's Ghostface. And it's Ghostface. And it's Dewey and Gale and Randy are there together. And he is like, it's Ghostface. And they're like, keep him talking and we'll try to find him. Because he's like, he can see us. Because he's like, he says something to them. Or he's like, he can see them. Yeah, about how they can see him.

Speaker: yeah And they're in the screen. And so Gale and Dewey are like running around like ripping cell phones out of students' hands going, who is this? Who is this? And every single time they're like, who is this? Yeah.

Speaker: um Because it's so confusing because everyone has a cell phone at this college. um And so Randy keeps trying to get him talking and he's just like, what's your scary movie? Tell me. Oh, I'll guess. Is it like House on Sorority Row? Or he goes, what's your scary movie? And he says, um, uh, Showgirls. That's a real horror.

Speaker: Yeah. It's great. Yeah. yeah And he backs, he's backing slowly into corners while Gail and Dewey are running around.

Speaker: And then he insults Billy. And he says, you know, he's a, he calls him, he call he calls him a homo. He says a homo repressed mama's boy. yeah And that's when the the news van door opens, Gail's news van and grabs him and pulls him into the van.

Speaker: Yep. And then stabs him. A million times. And Randy dies. Randy dies. And one thing, like, and then Gail and Dewey find his body, and there's two things that you could notice there.

Speaker: One is that there's lipstick smears on Randy's hand. Oh. And in the on the screen in the news van, you can see Laurie Metcalf. Oh.

Speaker: And so the idea, so this is one of the times that Laurie Metcalf is in the suit, but um you do, like, again, she was calling Gail. She was trying to kill, she was waiting in Gail's news van to kill her. She was trying to get Gail.

Speaker: She was targeting Gail and then, you know, Randy pissed her off by talking shit about her son. And she admits that later. She goes, you know, she says something about how she had to get that film boy because he insulted to Billy. And that's when I got a little stab happy or a little knife happy.

Speaker: Yeah, yeah. um And then we have the weird library IM scene. Yeah. okay is What computer? What computer in 1997? she's there and it just like turns yellow. She's like doing work and it like turns yellow. And she goes, ah my computer just froze up. Did yours? To the guy next to her. And he goes, oh, that means you have an instant message. What?

Speaker: And she goes, oh, but I'm not signed on. He goes, oh, all the computers in the library are hooked together. and So it's got to be someone from the library. yeah what What instant message system is this? I don't know. It's very like it's very old school. like It doesn't even appear to be Windows. It looks like she's running like DOS or something. yeah it's ah It's a blue screen. It's putting in an HDMI code.

Speaker: It's insane. Yeah, it and it says Instant Message. And it pops up. I'm guessing it's like very early AOL. um Yeah. i don't know if the word I don't know if the term Instant Message was trademarked for AOL or if it's like CompuServe or Prodigy or one of those other also rants in the 90s.

Speaker: But it is definitely like, it doesn't look like it's Windows at all. Yeah. It's it's so weird. It's so weird. Looks very ancient. Yeah. But the Instant Message says, you're going to die tonight. Yeah.

Speaker: And then this is where she runs the library and there's Cotton. Yep. Cotton Weary, Liam Schreiber. Yeah. Who Who just, like, doesn't know how to take a hint. He just, like, doesn't know how to read a room.

Speaker: He's very fame hungry. He was in jail for a year um for something he didn't do. And he is trying to get Sidney. He's like, Diane Sawyer called me and she wants to get both of us for the full hour. And it's going to pay us $10,000 a piece. And, you know, it's a stepping stone. Like we can turn this into a career. And she's like, I don't want to do that. You fucking psychopath.

Speaker: Yeah. And he, um, he gets handsy with her. I mean, yeah you know, aggressive with her and he gets arrested by the, by the detective bodyguards.

Speaker: Yeah, because they're like, why are you fucking with her after she just got this like message? yeah um Take a chill pill, Cotton. Take a fucking chill pill. Yeah. He's my least favorite character in this whole franchise. He's such an asshole. um But also, he's um he's so much of an asshole, he can't be the killer. That's the thing. like You know it's not going to be Cotton. Yeah. Yeah. That's why the beginning of Scream 3 is great.

Speaker: Yeah. So the detectives put are going to put her in protective custody, and Hallie, the roommate, is going to go with her. Yep. to a place that they can't tell them about. Otherwise they'd have to kill them.

Speaker: Yeah. Um, which is like that. Don't make that joke when people are trying to kill them. Like you stupid fucking detective. Right. Oh, it should be also be said. um so when they're in the cafeteria, this is another one of my favorite moments when, um, uh, she, her roommate, what's her name is asking Sydney. She's just like, so what's the deal with the the bodyguards? Which one is, um, uh, Oh my God. What's his name from the bodyguard?

Speaker: kevin costner which one's kevin costner and she goes well that one is a capricorn he's a divorced father of two and then the other one he's an aries he's single but i'm pretty sure he's gay and i'm like yeah i love the fact like it's understandable that she would like find out this like personal info about the two of them but like why did she asked their star signs yeah like apparently she's into that it's never mentioned before or after this but it is exactly mentioned And then also when the detective, the the the one that she says is gay says, don't ask, don't tell. i know! they're going It's like, okay, Kevin.

Speaker: Right. and Again, famously gay screenwriter, Kevin Williamson, getting his little digs in. Right. Like, Good for you, I guess. Good for you. I turned to Charlie. I was just like, get it.

Speaker: Cause he's the gay one. Yeah. Um, I think this is when Joel leaves. Uh, he's like, Gail, I'm not doing this anymore. Like i'm a black man in a horror movie. Like I see where this is going. Like, yep.

Speaker: Goodbye. I'm out. I should. and dying It's on me. I should have read your book before i decided to do this. Well, yeah. Cause her cameraman gets killed in the first minute. He's like, I found out your cameraman was gutted.

Speaker: Dewey finds Gail and is finally ready to to help her. And ah she's like, we've got Joel's crowd footage. And he's like, well, from all the killings, like the killer's got to be there. So let's look at the crowd footage and see who's there. And so they go to the film school and are trying to find a way to play a VHS tape. Yeah.

Speaker: Right. It's 1997. Exactly. And they find like a classroom with a, with a tape player and they're like they start getting me hot on each, they're getting hot on each other watching, watching crime scene footage. Yeah.

Speaker: They're like, ah, Dewey. They make out and they start to, they, they start to undress each other. And then like, other footage starts playing on the other TV and they're like, we didn't shoot this. And it's all the scenes of the people that were killed.

Speaker: Exactly. Like far away footage. Yeah. Uh, and then there's, there's ghost face in the booth. Uh, and they go running after him, which again, like don't chase after him. You're just going to get stabbed a bunch, man. Like, yeah, but you know, they gotta, they gotta find out who it is. There's this whole chase scene where Gail is chased through the, um, like,

Speaker: The recording booths, like the mixing studio and the- The ADR rooms. The mixing booths and the music studios. Yeah. And she is evading Ghostface and gets into a point where she sees Dewey, but it's soundproof. Yeah. And she can't warn him, and then he gets stabbed a bunch. You think he's dead. Yeah. He gets stabbed bunch. He gets stabbed a lot. That's what happens to Dewey. He has whole face smear on the window sort of situation.

Speaker: so again When you get stabbed and blood comes out of your mouth, like that's not good for your body. No, no, that's not good. That, that, that in a horror movie pretty much means death. They do the classic blocked door bit, which they do in most of these screen movies where she, but he like puts his hand through and like. Yeah. so I love it. And then you get the like special sound effects. Yeah. So then there's Hallie and Sydney in the car and.

Speaker: They're at a stoplight. They're at stoplight and Ghostface just takes out these bodyguards so easily. like oh easily. They're so bad at their job. dragons He goes, wha-bam, wha-bam. They're dead. And then he drags one out or he drags both of them out and then he gets in the car and um it's a cop car, should be said.

Speaker: Yeah. what if They're in the back of a cop car, so they can't get out. yeah They're... um ah one of them is not dead and he points a gun at the car and he, um and then Ghostface runs him over, he gets onto the hood and smashes into like a barricade and this guy gets the rebar right through the head and the rebar goes all the way into the car. Ghostface gets knocked unconscious by the the crash yeah and they have this great bit which is like super tense it's where they have to all they peel off the like barrier because it got shattered by the rebar yeah or smashed. It's like wire and they pull it down and they have to climb over Ghostface's unconscious body. Because the passenger door is against a wall, so they can't get out passenger doorway. can't get out the door They can't get out the door. They have to climb over him through the window. yeah And she gets she gets out and tries to open the door for Hallie. Can't do it. Hallie has to climb over him too. At this point, there was a gun on the hood of the car.

Speaker: Like, yeah you gotta grab that gun, shoot Ghostface in the fucking head. Like, there's no other... Like, we we can't fuck around at this point. Like, he's killed too many people.

Speaker: Like it's right there. It's what are you doing? sydney They run away. And then she's like, I got to know who it is. I got to go back and take the mask off. And Hallie's like, no, don't. Don't do it. like Just she's far enough away. People run. ah stupid no Smart people, smart people grab the gun off the hood of the car and shoot him in the head. That's what smart people do.

Speaker: But then Sidney goes back to the car. And of course he's gone. Of course he's gone. Of course. You turn take your back on him for one second. He disappears. And somehow he manages to make it all the way around to grab Hallie. I don't know how this happened. hallie Because this is not Laurie Metcalf. This is all him. like This is all Timothy Oliphant. Yeah. yeah um Grabs Hallie and kills her.

Speaker: yeah And then Sidney has to run to the theater where we have our big climax. Yeah. She runs to the theater and, um oh, it should be said, so after they, but her and her roommate get into the car, um she's saying goodbye Jerry O'Connell.

Speaker: And um he's just like, okay, we'll be safe, be safe, be safe. And she's like, yeah, okay, see you later, buddy. um And ah as soon as they drive away,

Speaker: a bunch of people in cloaks come out and attack Jerry O'Connell. And you're just like, what the fuck is happening? And then ah half a second later, they're like, you betrayed your brotherhood, fraternities for life. And there's Portia de Rossi and the other chick and they're going, yeah, so Greek. I love it.

Speaker: Rebecca Gayhart. all they're They're all involved in the Greek play. Apparently, like, the the theater department is is full of of Greeks for some reason. Right. i don't know why. For whatever reason. i don't know if it's extra credit for your sorority or your fraternity.

Speaker: Whatever. yeah um So they kidnap him and have him on stage and they have this party on stage. They have him tied up. They're force feeding him beer, stuffing beer down his pants. We definitely had some parties on the stage in theater. But on a set?

Speaker: Yeah, on the set. Yeah, for sure. Well, actually, no If there was a set built, we wouldn't have done that. No. it was an empty stage. I was going to say, a theater major isn't that disrespectful.

Speaker: Right. Yes. You don't want to mess up the set. Exactly. You work really hard on those sets. yeah Yeah. After Strike, we would do it. Yeah. Yeah. After Strike makes sense. We cut to Gail, who is just now getting out because Ghostface had her trapped, but then he disappeared because I think, yeah, I don't know who's who at this point. I think it's Laurie Metcalf.

Speaker: I think it has to be Laurie Metcalf. Yeah. Because Laurie Metcalf would have the footage. Yes. Yes. Oh yeah. Yeah. Cause she's the one who's been filming stuff. Yeah. She's coming out of the room and she sees a cotton whose hands are covered in blood. And he's like, no, no, I found Dewey. I'm, I'm, I was trying to save him. And then she calls the cops and is like, Colton is the cotton is the killer. Yeah.

Speaker: Yeah. And so they take him away again. Yes. Well, no, we don't see any of that. We just see, we just see that. And then it cuts and we go, if we get to the theater. the theater's now empty. Like all the fraternity and sort of kids fucked off. Apparently. i don't know why. Like it was a real short party. Yeah. But they left Jerry O'Connell on his little crucifix with the little mask.

Speaker: Yep. And she finds him. He's tied up. And he's like, no, no, it's it's it's unrelated. Yeah, he's like, don't worry about this. this is this was This was a fraternity thing. You don't understand because you're not pledging. and Yeah. Don't worry.

Speaker: We get so many fake outs as to who the killer is in this scene. So many fucking fake outs. She's starting to untie him. And then Ghostface shows up, reveals himself to be Timothy Olyphant. And pretends that Derek is the other killer. And so she stops untying him, doesn't know what to do.

Speaker: Timothy Olyphant, not an idiot, did get the gun off the hood of the car. He's got the cop's gun. yeah Derek is like, no, no, it's not me. It's not me. And then Timothy Olyphant gets tired of it and kills him.

Speaker: Yeah. Shoots him right in the heart. And he's like, I never would have hurt you. Yeah. And then it's just like, oh no. And then he goes, but I have to have had a partner. And then we like swing the camera to Gail walking out, ah of um walking on stage. And you're just like, Gail, what?

Speaker: um But then she goes, Gail. And she's like, it's not me. And then out behind her comes Laurie Metcalfe. who apparently has had such a great makeover, but not that good of a makeover because Sidney Prescott recognizes her immediately. Yes. Yes. And it's just like Mrs. Loomis and Gail's like,

Speaker: what the fuck i've seen pictures of you before and she's like well i've lost 60 pounds and gotten a lot of work done it's called a makeover and i like well then how did sydney recognize you but then gail i don't know yeah it's silly um it's i think the idea is that you know because again specifically sydney hadn't seen her throughout the whole movie they didn't have any scenes together and until now Because she's the one who would have recognized her. But then, like, you think about, like, when Gail wrote the book, she wouldn't have seen any photos of Billy's mom. Like, that's, right it's just like, it seems like a little. We saw photos. Well, no, no, that's what i'm saying. Yeah.

Speaker: That's that's's a little screenwriter, like, well, I gotta to come up with some reason why she wouldn't have recognized her. you Oh, yeah, yeah And then they have this whole, like, explanation. It's the end of Scream. You gotta explain what's going on. It's ah it's she missed the end of a mystery. She's so upset that Sydney killed her baby boy, even though it is said that she abandoned her baby boy. And Sydney's like, yeah, well, you abandoned him.

Speaker: Yeah. And she's like, it's complicated! crazy! If you don't remember from the first movie, Sydney's mom had an affair with Billy's dad. yeah And, like...

Speaker: wrecked their family supposedly you know according to to mrs loomis and that's what made billy so mad that he had to kill everyone yeah yeah because he's a psychopath and to the oliphant mickey just wants to be famous like and he's actually a psychopath yeah he has a plan like he's gonna kill all these people and then he's going to get like a good lawyer and get away with it and his his his defense is gonna be the movies made me do it And he met Mrs. Loomis in like a serial killer chat In a serial killer chat room. Yeah. Which you know before regulations definitely existed.

Speaker: I mean, yeah. it's And I mean, I'm sure i'm not going on the dark web, so they absolutely still exist. Oh, for sure. For sure. Yeah. Army Hammer's going to talk about eating people with someone.

Speaker: Yeah, exactly. they allegedly. Allegedly. Allegedly. Allegedly. And then she betrays him instantly and shoots him a bunch of times. She's like, you know, you're not going get away Mickey.

Speaker: Yeah. And then she's going to kill Sydney. And oh, is she shoots Gail and Gail like falls off the stage. Gail falls off into the orchestra pit. Yeah. Not present. Yeah. And we have this whole bit with, you know, talking about Billy and blah, blah, blah. She, um, she's about to shoot her and then Cotton shows up.

Speaker: Yeah. Yeah. And he has, he gets Mickey's gun, I think is what happens. Yeah, he gets some gun somehow. I don't really question it. And he's just like, I just, I don't understand what's happening here. And um like Mrs. Loomis has a knife around Sidney's neck and she's just like, um we can be really great, Cotton. You just wait. Like I'll make your life so great. We'll be famous. Um, and then... Yeah, if Sydney is dead, then you won't need her anymore because you'll be the only survivor and you can be famous. Oh, it's her gun. She loses the gun. They... He, like, hits her or something and then gets the gun is what happens. Or Sydney does. They have this whole fight. Yeah, yeah, yeah. She loses the gun and Cotton picks it up. Yeah.

Speaker: Yeah, yeah. Um, and and then Sydney is just like, okay, well, if this is what's gonna get me out, then okay. She goes, hey, Cotton, I'll do, um...

Speaker: ah oh fuck what's her name? Diane Sawyer. I'll do Diane Sawyer. Hey Cotton I'll do Diane Sawyer. And so he goes okay and he shoots Mrs. Loomis right away.

Speaker: um and um then we have a jump scare with Gail is still alive in the pit and they pull her out and she's like give me that gun. He's like oh okay. He's like he hesitated a little too long before yeah for killing her. He's like hey I wouldn't have hurt you.

Speaker: Yeah right. And she's like, they always pop up for one more, for one more scare. And then Timothy Oliphant like pops up all covered in blood. He's like, ah, and they shoot him. And they shoot him. Yeah. And then Sydney shoots Mrs. Loomis in the head. She's like, just in case, just in case.

Speaker: And then Dewey's alive. Yeah. um And so Gail walks out and um her, ah our guy, our cameraman's just like, I'm so sorry I left. I'm back. Let's do your show. Let's do your report. And he hands her the microphone. And as as she's taking the microphone, she's, and it looks like it's going to be a repeat of the end of yeah um the first screen. Yeah. She sees Dewey coming out and they go, we've gotten a live one here.

Speaker: ah and he's on a stretcher and she runs to him. She drops the microphone. She runs to him. And she's just like, you're alive, you're alive, I'm so happy. And she goes in the ambulance with him. And so she chooses Dewey over the story, which is yes actual character. That's her arc.

Speaker: That's her arc. And then as Sydney's coming out with Cotton, all of the reporters are like, Sydney, Sydney, Sydney, how does it feel to be a hero? Because apparently they've all heard about how this has ended immediately. Apparently, apparently. Yeah. And Cotton is like going over to the car like, nobody cares about me. And, and so Sydney, she looks over it and she's just like, don't ask me that question.

Speaker: Ask Cotton. He's the real hero there. And so then they all go, Cotton, Cotton, Cotton, tell us what it's like to be a hero. And he goes, ah guys, guys, guys, I would love to tell you my story. And every story needs a time and a place. And of course, a price. Here's my business card. Give me a call and you can get an exclusive.

Speaker: And then we get a drone shot. It's not a drone shot. it's a I think it's a helicopter shot or an extremely big crane. Yeah, it's probably a crane. We get a very large like aerial shot um and it's Sydney just walking through and she's just like, it's tough to be Sid.

Speaker: It was supposed to be Bittersweet Symphony. That was what they wanted for the movie, which was had just come out that year. Cruel Intentions was two years away, so they hadn't used it yet. Really?

Speaker: And they won a bittersweet symphony, but the rights were all tangled because that song samples a Rolling Stones song and it was this whole legal battle and they couldn't untangle the stuff in time because this movie had a deadline.

Speaker: yeah They made this movie in like six months. Yeah. They had to like really... So they use some, they so I think it's Collective Soul, some garbage 90s. Really, would it would have been better if they used um red and Red Right Hand again. yeah like just use Just use the Scream song.

Speaker: like i Just end it with the Scream song. Call it a day. Yeah. And that is Scream 2. Yeah, 2, baby. It gets to to do a lot of a lot of fun stuff, play with your expectations. It has some fun at the expense of of the original and horror movies yeah in general. And, I think it's a really fun sequel. Like it really, the, the, the remit of the movie was to do for sequels what the first one did. Yeah. For, for slasher movies. And like, you know, the slasher movie had already been like completely reignited by this point. Like even a year later, i mean, there's a million more like teenage slasher movies that come out in the two thousands before, before horror movies had to be reinvented again by saw in like 2005 or whenever. It was 2001.

Speaker: Or sorry, 2002. Saw Saw 2002. 2004. Oh, it was? Yeah, I just Googled I know that it's famous that ah when they were filming Saw, they filmed it in 2001 because they were filming what's is those the two guys in the basement together um during 9-11. They found out about 9-11 while they were filming Saw.

Speaker: Really? Wow. Yeah. I heard that fact somewhere. oh Who knows if it's true? yeah it could be. yeah Oh no, okay. it's ah There's a subtle Easter egg where the cell phone left in the bathroom is September 10th.

Speaker: So the idea is Saw is set on 9-10-01 and the day he gets out is So that's just a little joke. That's a little, yeah. Of like, well...

Speaker: He thinks everything's going to be fine. Woof. Yeah, because filming it three years before it came out would be crazy. Yeah. Okay. Okay, that makes more sense. um That's my B. And also, a lesson to the listeners that not all of Emma's Fun Facts are true.

Speaker: This is not a research-based podcast. Not a research-based podcast. um what What movie are we doing next week? Next week, we are going back to the past. um Yeah. are going to the 60s to talk about The horror masterpiece, Rosemary's Baby.

Speaker: Yeah, baby! baby! A significantly less fun movie than this. Yes. It traumatized Mia Farrow. You've seen this movie, yes? Oh yeah, I've seen this movie. okay Charlie's never seen this movie.

Speaker: But it traumatized Mia Farrow. It traumatized the model on America's Next Top Model who had her hair cut like Mia Farrow in Rosemary's Baby. it It traumatized a lot of people.

Speaker: It's fucked up. it's it's ah It's a scary movie, but I think it's really, really good. Yeah. It's a classic for a reason. Yeah. Despite, we will not be talking about the director in that. No. No, no. no We're going to have it one disclaimer, say our piece, and move on.
