Speaker: All right. Hi, everyone, and welcome to Versailles 6101, where we discuss everything about the world of Psyche and the antics of Sean and Gus in sunny Santa Barbara. I'm Skylar, and this is my partner, Kylie. And today we're going to be discussing where we've been for like six months. We're alive! Yes, we are. And where we're intending to go in the next couple of episodes and our general thoughts on where we where we landed before we disappeared off the face of the earth. So...
Speaker: Yeah, we were in kind of, we were right in the thick of foundation. So we were, we really, yeah Christmas happened. And then we were just like like, a lot was going on. Yeah. would be fair ah
Speaker: Yeah. so I guess in terms of where we're we're going, we'll pick that back up. Yeah. Those episodes are already recorded. So it'll be like a time capsule. It will. Yeah, it'll be really interesting for for this discussion right now. Kylie and I went back and listened to the end of season three.
Speaker: So our Yang episode and the after show. And that, too, was like a time capsule. I was like, oh, my gosh, remember this. It is wild how how long ago that was.
Speaker: i know. and Time flies, man. It it really does. To be fair, a lot has been going on. Yes. So that also- have baby. Yes. So exciting. There might be baby chatter in the background going forward. It's a little small one.
Speaker: And you've been busy. Yep. I was finishing up a principal program. that kept me busy for a little while. baby has been birthed. We're better educated. We've got more people- We have more friends with us.
Speaker: On the line. So we're ready to discuss. Yeah. But I miss this. Me too. i really do. yeah there's There's something really special about like watching a show with a critical lens because i could, I mean, i have, we've discussed this in the past. I have comfort shows that I watch nonstop. all I watch an episode of Bob's Burgers every single day of my life. I have been doing it for upwards of 10 years, which is a little scary. Um,
Speaker: But because it is a comfort show and then it's just kind of playing in the background, it's not always something that you like take the time to really digest in its entirety. And sitting down intentionally with a critical lens, I feel like has been really wonderful, like very, very juicy. I feel like we've learned a lot about this show.
Speaker: Completely. I mean, ah have watched it so many times, but like even listening back to our last couple episodes before we kind of disappeared, um i was like, wow, these are like revelations, you know? Yeah. Yeah. The stuff about like Yang and...
Speaker: kind of going backward, like everybody going back to move forward. Like this is some powerful readings that we're know discovering here. So yeah.
Speaker: And I've also missed like the the supplementary assignments. Yes, I agree. I agree. I feel like I don't know when the last time I watched a movie is. and You've been very busy to be fair. You not really had your hands full. But I do love that this project like forces me to yeah because i i listened to um like the foundations to kind of you know because it's fun we yeah are my like some of my podcast friends like I do like returning to our conversations um
Speaker: we We crack me up like I was in the car and I literally was like cackling as I was driving. So I agree. We are my podcast friends as well. Yeah, it's such a fun.
Speaker: I mean, it's I don't know. There's a lot of jokes about it. Everybody has a podcast and it's kind of a silly thing to do and stuff. But it is fun to kind of be saving this for posterity and know that yeah someday we we can always go back to these conversations we had just as friends. And it's like it's very fun.
Speaker: Totally. But yeah, so I was listening. I listened to a couple of the foundation ones and just like having to watch those movies that are like iconic that I've never seen.
Speaker: yes Yeah, it's it's what I'm looking for. And I know we and we were talking about, I think, in the after show, just how much stuff we are going to be happy like, yes, going to be watching our syllabus for this season, if you will.
Speaker: Well, and what I really what I really enjoy about the foundations on top of, yes forcing myself to watch media, because I probably wouldn't sit down and watch a movie. As you said, I'm more of a TV person.
Speaker: um But also the movies that we choose are not necessarily movies that I would ever watch otherwise. that i don't I probably would have never watched. Actually, I can say 100%. I would have never watched any of the horror movies that we watched without this. But I actually really enjoyed them. like They are actually some of my favorites. I recommend them, I think, more than I recommend um some other movies that I've seen. so Absolutely. I was just telling someone about Black Christmas. And I feel like that is one of my favorite movies now. And I'm like, when did that happen?
Speaker: too. I recommended Black Christmas. So many times. So many times. It was so good. it was so, so good. Yeah. And with the horror, I also feel, with the horror, I feel like I have also grown so much as a horror viewer and appreciator. And like, we have talked offline a bit about Widow's Bay, which is great and everybody should watch.
Speaker: And had I not done all of this beforehand, I I don't know that I would have handled it as well, the scares, and also, like, would have appreciated it as much because there's some... Totally. There's... It's also quite referential to the genre. Yes. And now we have a pretty good foundation in the genre. So, like, that is so cool. And I've watched some other... Like, I watched...
Speaker: the fall of the house of usher which okay some serious horror stuff and i'm just yeah it's like really just expanded like what i'm capable of consuming yeah totally yeah i feel like it's as you're kind of alluding to it's also enriched my ability to watch things of the genre or like tangentially related to the genre like i think If I hadn't seen all of the horror films that we've seen, I might have watched Widow's Bay. Like, that seems like something I would kind of watch.
Speaker: But I think I would have just been like, oh, that was a good show. I wouldn't have realized that they're, like, playing the genre in each of the different episodes. I wouldn't have, like, caught half of the references, which just makes it an even more enjoyable watch. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, I mean, not to...
Speaker: spoil too much about that show but go highly there is an episode that is quite inspired by Halloween and I was just like I know this speak this language and also like being scared I was like I have seen Halloween I can handle this yes i know what I'm doing here so yeah It's really broadened the mind.
Speaker: Yes, totally. Yeah, and exactly to that point, I think it's changed my opinion of a genre that would have been like, absolutely not. Yeah.
Speaker: Yeah. I'm much more willing. Not only am I much more willing, but I'm actually pretty excited when we have another horror film on our roster. is they're very i mean, they're very interesting and they're very they make a lot of very interesting commentary about like the world, particularly about women. And i don't know. It's interesting to watch and interesting to discuss. So i'm I'm glad that Psych opened that door for us. Yeah, I feel, I mean, there's probably some out there that I don't i don't know if I could handle, like like the Saw movies or like Human Centipede. I don't know if i'll ever be ready for those. However, we did watch Gravy, and did which I feel like is kind of somewhere in between all yeah all of these because it has it's so funny, but it's also quite like.
Speaker: Like, that's some serious stuff. I feel like that's as serious as it gets, has gotten yeah for us. um Pretty grotesque, that movie. Yes. That's a good word for it. um Yes, I'm looking forward to all that we get to do for this season, which...
Speaker: Jam packed. Includes, yeah. I was just thinking it's going to include our Alfred Hitchcock. Yes. Film festival. Very fun. We're going to dedicate a whole like month to that.
Speaker: I know. We really might have to. or or We'll have to maybe decide on like three. Yeah. Well, there's kind of. There's so many references in that one. Yeah. Yeah.
Speaker: Yeah. i mean i so I mean, maybe we could just do the ones that are part of the like fun house situation that they're Okay. Yeah, we could Which still might be.
Speaker: At least four. Several. Or five. Six. Maybe it's five. Well, kids like but because they all separate. So there's one for Gus. There's one for Lassie. One for Jules. One for Henry.
Speaker: One for Sean. Yeah. and And Lassie and Henry are, they're not in the same movie, but they both have the car. Is that what the Oh, no. Maybe they are. Maybe they are both in the same movie then. So maybe it is four.
Speaker: But I think, I don't know. Because I think they're like, well, that could be me because I'm whatever. And well, I have, like, I feel like they might be two different movies, but it's just relevant to both of them. And then Sean, I think is Rear Window. I think we got to do that one.
Speaker: Yes. Have to do Rear Window. But then was is it 39 steps that is ah Mary or is that a totally different thing? you're right. And Mary.
Speaker: Oh, shoot. No, i think I think that might be Mary too. There's a many. Oh, gosh. We might have to. It would be cool experience them all. It would. We'll see. We'll see.
Speaker: I know. We've got also the our Despero episode. So exciting. Freaking love Despero. Yeah. Yeah. But we we did talk a bit about it in the after show, I think, like about Despero being kind of this challenge to Sean and really appearing better than him in many ways.
Speaker: Yes. And being... which like and John admires him so much which of course which is so fun and how we understand what who he is or what he's up to will we ever i don't think we will no and then we've got think we said the Bollywood episode is this season which I love the Bollywood episode we'll to pick a good fall Bollywood movie to watch yeah that's a good Jules episode too yes that is a good Jules episode
Speaker: we said Oh, the train station episode? That's going be interesting. An actual very Juliet episode. Literally. there's just There's a lot in this in this season, and I feel like this season is where we're really going start getting psyche. Like, I think we just kind of started getting kooky, wooky, crazy in the last two episodes of last season, and now...
Speaker: I have a feeling they really took it to another level. And I yeah, we talked about how like the the studio or whoever. Yes. challenge And kind of like, we've never done this before. Can we do this? And right. And like the fact that they were able to do it.
Speaker: And kind of opens up this whole other world of what they can do because they've done it now right well let's just do it
Speaker: all these other texts that we're gonna be referring to yes part of it is just because they have have done these two big kind of blockbuster episodes and now it's like okay we can do whatever we want right totally Yeah, I think it's going to be fun going to Canada.
Speaker: Yeah. Going out of the country. Canonically going to Canada. Yes, canonically. spiritually, we're in Canada all the time. in And yeah, getting to really play with some of the things that become standard issues, psych. Like we're going get a lot more of the...
Speaker: theme song changing to fit the the genre of the episode gonna get some more like backstory on people and yeah just some more like kooky wacko bananas things which is gonna be really fun i'm very excited yes i'm pulling up imdb see what episodes we've got so okay in episode two we get k christine baranski showing up oh my gosh which is a delight yes she is pretty amazing Then we have the Western. Oh, number.
Speaker: I wonder if we need to watch one. I wonder we need to watch one. ah a Western, probably. i feel like probably. Yeah, I was just listening to a podcast.
Speaker: Oh, I think was The Deep Dive with ne June Day and Raphael and Jessica St. Clair. And they were talking, well, Jessica was talking to Mary Holland about Little House on the Prairie.
Speaker: Ah, okay. The reboot that is out now. um And they were talking about filming in the prairie and like, and old westerns and how they, like in the old days, they would like Or, yeah, they would just build this whole town that they would film in, which is kind of like what they did in Little House on the Prairie. and And so, yeah, just... I don't know that this episode is like... i mean, I guess that there's some Western elements, but it's not quite like a Western homage.
Speaker: This is the old Sonora one, right? Yeah. Yeah, i definitely that that idea of like making a town and like creating an idea about what the West is. Because yeah the West is not necessarily how it's portrayed in films. So that's kind of interesting.
Speaker: Yeah, and like this kind of like storybook town that you go and visit to experience it. like right Even though it's not quite like they're making a Western episode it's like that they are on a set yes yeah so it might be interesting to watch a movie where they were on those sets i don't know what's that um
Speaker: i don't even think that's a western um Nope. I don't know where I got that from. I was thinking once upon a time in Hollywood. I'm like, that's not right. Well, that kind of thing I get where you went. Like why went to that. Because like, yeah, because it is like, don't know, filming. I do think they go through different genres maybe. I don't know a lot about it either. Okay.
Speaker: But that might be a thing. Okay. Yeah. I see what you were thinking. Yeah. um Yeah. Well, we can think about yeah what we want to do with that one. Yes.
Speaker: um Oh my gosh. The ah Catholic school one with the Twin Peaks guy. oh The priest. I can't wait. Who shows up so many times. Yeah. many iterations. He does feel, I don't know how many episodes he's ultimately in, but he definitely feels like part of the world. He does.
Speaker: He does. He's probably only in like two or three, but he's just everywhere. He's definitely in the Twin Peaks one. Is that the next time we see him? I don't. Maybe. And then I think, is he in the the Cloudy remake?
Speaker: Oh, how maybe like as somebody else. Mm-hmm. He might be. I think so. But yeah. He definitely feel has a feel of like a friend of the show.
Speaker: and Oh, absolutely. And i don't I don't think I could actually pinpoint what that feeling is. he has that feeling. Yeah. Yeah.
Speaker: And he's so good he's just so good. Like in any role that he's in, he really is quite wonderful. Mm-hmm. Yeah, it'll be fun to watch Twin Peaks. That's not this season, but when we do and like see all these people, kind of like watching The Breakfast Club and seeing all of Yes.
Speaker: And knowing where they, like the little, I don't know, it's like, I don't know, like a repertory theater or something. like The way they just put people that they like around. Very fun.
Speaker: i Makes for good show-ins. So I yes am all about it. Yeah. Yeah. And for that first one, maybe we have to watch The Exorcist. Is that the? Yeah. Yep. Yeah, because they're a demon.
Speaker: That's the whole thing. Yeah, so that will be interesting. Yeah, that's like a whole other like, sub genre. I feel like demons and oh to possession and, and those kinds of like,
Speaker: religious tropes yes speaking in tongues and that kind of thing yep yeah so that's like a whole other path we could go down yes see we're just gonna go through all these now then we have sean gets the yips that's a great that is a great one that is a great one know if that if there's like a something we should watch for that but but it does feel kind of like vintage procedural yes in a way I could see that yeah yeah and and also of one of the more intense plot lines that we get I mean it even thinking about it I'm like well like it it's so silly in so many ways in watching it yeah yeah and it's kind of which
Speaker: we have talked about in the past, but like what they are able to achieve with tone. I think it wasn't, were we talking about that with them? Oh, cause we were talking about serial killers yes and how the, ah this was not their first serial killer. engine Yeah. But it, it does, they give it such weights and this sort of feels like that too, where like, mean, it is a very intense situation, but there's so much fun happening around it. Yeah. And yeah. Yeah.
Speaker: that Bollywood Homicide. We talked about that a bit. So good. Can't wait. High Top Fade Out. ah Oh, that's gonna be fun too. So fun. We're gonna just have to like play the theme song and just listen. 100%. I'm obsessed with the acapella theme song. Live react to the theme song alone.
Speaker: And is it Boyz II Men that they got to sing it? I think it might be. Psych acapella episode theme song.
Speaker: Singers? Boys to Men. I knew it. So good. oh ohh Maybe for that one, we can just like listen to an album by Boys to Men. oo so Fun.
Speaker: Done. We haven't really gone into music. that's But music is a big part of the show. you know Steve Franks is in a band. um They have that in their back pockets.
Speaker: along with many other things they I mean they reference music occasionally yeah they are certainly more like TV movie people but they do also reference music sometimes yeah that would be a fun little thing for us and then Let's Get Harry I have been really looking forward to this one Let's Get Harry is really fun yeah and we definitely will have to watch I think i'm An American Werewolf in London um it's also a west wing reunion which is exciting is it really who is in it from the west wing i don't think i josh molina uh oh really like the main protagonist of the episode the werewolf is uh um how did i never make that connection
Speaker: Well, you I feel like it's one of those things where like you have, psych has been a part of your life for so long. It's like you don't even think about it. And then you would have seen the West Wing at some point and then gone back.
Speaker: Maybe it would have clicked and maybe it doesn't. Yeah, no, it's a great point. Yeah, that episode was really fun. I like us like branching into the occult a little bit. Yes, I love those episodes. Yeah.
Speaker: they're fine And there's a couple of them throughout the series where we go like into other psychics or like yeah mystics. Yeah, even ghosts from last season. Like that's yeah so fun. Like I love the ghost stuff. i mean, that and the Exorcist one will be pretty kind of goes there too.
Speaker: Definitely. And then it's interesting how, because this show does not believe in any of that. Correct. How they like create the possibility of those things and then are able to ground it. Yes. Is, uh, yeah, it's, that's fun to watch. Yeah. It's interesting how they balance that.
Speaker: Yeah. Oh God. Sean takes a shot in the dark. No. oh heavy, heavy stuff. Heavy stuff. And yet a lot of fun stuff too, but like, Oh, what a big episode for Sean and for Henry and Gus.
Speaker: And Gus. Yes. Interesting. Yeah. i wonder. I wonder what theme we're going to see. We we touched on this a little bit in um the after show, but I really wonder kind of what what our overarching theme is going to be for season four, because we I feel like we've we've pretty much seen some kind of overarching like overtone to each of the seasons so far.
Speaker: hmm.
Speaker: So I wonder like where we're going to kind of go from going back to the past to move towards the future. like Where are we going to go from there? That's going be interesting. Because that's not technically over yet either. Back going to the past. Yeah, not at all. I mean, really, it's kind of just getting started because we're going to see Sean and Abigail are just just getting started.
Speaker: and she's going to leave somewhere in there. Right. So... Yeah. It's funny because like we have all these kind of big plot points in our heads, but I don't know where they all fall.
Speaker: Yes, absolutely. And that's just from watching the show so much, I think. Yeah. But I do think that that's actually been having a... a An understanding of the show, but not like a perfect memory of the show, I think has actually been very helpful. Yeah, agree. Because we can still get a lot surprised by things, but we kind of know what's coming, you know? Yeah.
Speaker: Yeah, and it's fun to be – yeah, exactly. Like – I was about to say, yeah, it's fun to be surprised by things, which is what you just said. It is. It's fun. Yeah. yeah ah Yeah.
Speaker: I know my, one of my favorite parts of this is when we, when we're talking about something and then we come to like a totally different revelation in the middle we're both just like, oh my God. Yeah. Interesting.
Speaker: Yeah. and I think it gives us like a good, like having that foundation allows us to like step back and make more connections and like kind of think of the, the piece. feel like i sometimes I get very, you know, academic about the word choice, but to think of the the text as a whole, and then um also be experiencing it as we are re rewatching it. So yeah, it's nice having both of those, but also not having, as you said, like an encyclopedic knowledge of everything that happens, because then we might
Speaker: not be outside of it enough to like be experiencing it. Yeah. Yeah. and Um, so we got that. And then you can't handle this episode with, um, who is that John Cena? Yeah.
Speaker: Oh yes John Cena that and that'll be an interesting that'll be an interesting watch because that's of course John Cena plays Jules's brother Ewan that'll be interesting to get some more Jules background oh we're also gonna get some guest background obviously the repellent episode some family dynamics more friendship dynamics um I also just think it's so funny like went like I would not necessarily expect John Cena to show up on a Psycho episode. know. I was just thinking that. Was he as big as he is? oh big You mean big popularity-wise. I thought he was a muscle. Was he that strong? Yes.
Speaker: 100%. I don't know. I feel like John Cena has always kind of been in in the zeitgeist if you will like at least since like we were kids i feel like i've always kind of known who john cena is but then he also kind of strikes me as like a a like at the the rock i mean who's like known in one sphere and then breaks into another sphere and then becomes more well known yeah well yeah because he's from like wwe right or something like that or something yeah We're going to have to, when we get to that episode, we'll have to study up on him. Watch some WWE. I don't think I can.
Speaker: Yeah. just We can just review his career. Because i am I do feel like there came a time where he suddenly was a movie star. Yes, he was definitely in a bunch of movies at some point.
Speaker: Yeah. and And before that, like, I don't know that I would have been aware of him. and I'm just curious where, like, when this fell, like, had he yeah had he acted much before this? Or was this kind of an early...
Speaker: breakout for him as an actor you know honestly i could see james rodey rodriguez being like you know it'd be hysterical if we went we got john cena and he had like no other acting credits we'll have to maybe a psychologist certain that we'll have to listen to could you imagine if they got john cena to come in for that episode oh my gosh that would be crazy that would be crazy yeah we'll definitely have to listen to more behind the scenes stuff about him But that will definitely be fun because that episode two is kind of twisty, like in a way that you don't necessarily expect.
Speaker: Yeah, and I don't know if we'll have to watch something for that. Like, it would't it could be a good excuse to watch something iconic because you can't handle the this episode. is You can't handle the truth, which I believe is 12 Angry Men.
Speaker: shinmark or something like a few good men i confuse those that's fair both angry yeah i mean some some movie about men um in the military yeah in a courtroom oh yeah because 12 angry men is courtroom yeah yeah and a few good men that's aaron sorkin right is it i don't know whichever one of those is like a newer movie is aaron sorkin because one of those is really old right i have no idea what these I think they're both pretty old. um A Few Good Men is 92, and it was directed by rob Reiner.
Speaker: Oh, and a story by Aaron Sorkin. Yeah, you're right. And Rob Reiner, which i mean our episode of Talking About Him has not come out either. That might be an interesting one to watch. It has connections in the sense, like...
Speaker: Or even like Aaron Sorkin being connected to Dulé. i don't know how much like how much plot is like similar to the episode, but. i will So it's like a military.
Speaker: So if if I remember correctly, i haven't seen it in probably over a decade. It's like. It's the military and then like a soldier gets killed and then they're trying to figure out who's at fault for the soldier getting killed. It's like not in battle. It's like two soldiers like pulled a prank on another soldier and then that person passed. So they're trying to figure out who's to blame. And they have like naval lawyers or some some military lawyers. just um Tom Cruise. Yeah. Yeah. um Go in and defend them. So it's like all about trying to find the truth.
Speaker: and think You can't handle the truth. Okay, so there is a courtroom element, maybe. Yeah, definitely. And a military element and that, yeah. So.
Speaker: right, well, we can think about it. Ponder. And then thrill seekers and hell raisers. Gus has a girlfriend. Yeah. Okay. That's a fun one too. I like that one. I like Ruby.
Speaker: Yeah. Alas. I never see her again, but. No. Seems like a nice girl. And and that's ah a pretty interesting crime. Pretty interesting solving of the crime.
Speaker: So, ah yeah, that'll be fun. Yes, that'll be a fun one. then a very Juliet episode. Okay. talked a bit about ooh death is in the air the outbreak episode judd nelson judd nelson yeah and we're gonna have to watch that yeah we'll have to watch outbreak for that i can't believe that's judd nelson either that's like boggles the mind now that we have recently watched the reckless club like i'm really gonna have to look at his face and i know find that boy in there i know well and that's true too he's like
Speaker: this is well in a ways after the breakfast club. Yeah. He's like a full blown adult. Do you ever like have a thing with actors where like you, I mean, I guess we probably all do, but like really think of like forget kind of that they are just their, their actors yeah and their artists and like, you know, like certain people, like, I feel like especially kind of like rugged like,
Speaker: And then like people on like Breaking Bad and stuff. I'm like, ah these are all just like theater kids. Yeah. Like sometimes kids I just take a step back. Yes. have you i mean Have you seen Peaky Blinders?
Speaker: No. Great show. My husband maybe watched that. but He would definitely like that. oh Yeah. for For a little bit of reference, it's like a i gang in England at like the turn of the century, and it's all about like them going from...
Speaker: essentially like poverty to extreme wealth and how they get there and and all of the like social aspects but then also like all the violence aspects and all the other stuff too. But it is just like a bunch of like burly, rough and tough men.
Speaker: My favorite of which is Killian Murphy. I just love him to death. He is so good. um But yes, I often forget because one one of them in that, what is his name? Hold on there's There's one of the characters in there is also like an m MMA fighter or something and he just becomes an actor and I'm like I forget you're just a person because like you yeah I'm just a theater yeah it's like and you know I did a lot of theater and so just like the acting exercises and the games and like yeah just imagining them in those situations and getting very serious about their characters and yeah it's just i don't know it amuses me a little bit but it is fun is fun yeah um
Speaker: Yeah, so Judd Nelson, like thinking of him in The Breakfast Club as this kind of real ah troublemaker and... and stuff And then getting to see him in this little role in psych as a very strange doctor man. Very strange. yeah But I bet, like, I who really want to listen to that.
Speaker: Psychologists are in to hear what working with him was like and what the character development of that character was like. Yeah. How much say did they have in that? How much was it just Judd Nelson? You know?
Speaker: So interesting. How much did they geek out over having him on the set with them? Oh my gosh. Oh my gosh. So cool. And knowing they had sort of, i mean, not just, we've gone through several episodes at this point, yeah but recently worked with Ally Sheedy,
Speaker: Right. Yes. And then I guess that starts the the tally of how do we get every Breakfast Club member. Yeah, because she was the first, right?
Speaker: I think so. Yeah. And then because Molly Ringwald wasn't on yet. Yeah. And then Judd Nelson's not until the Outbreak episode. And then I can never remember the last.
Speaker: Towards the very end. and then I'm sorry. I can't remember his name at the moment. I can't remember it. i my Hold on. Michael. Ooh, that seems right. Watch me be way off. We're both like, oh, yeah.
Speaker: Anthony Michael Hall. Okay, there's a Michael in there. That counts. There's Michael in there. um Yeah, the only one that we don't get is Emilio Estevez, but that's...
Speaker: yeah so yeah first this will be number two number two yes
Speaker: um and then think tank that's fun one too this is a fun one i feel that's a hard one because again we see sean be wrong which we've talked about how how that can be hard yes um but yeah that's definitely an interesting one and we get uh is it chris sarandon the Bonaventure.
Speaker: We saw him in Dog Day Afternoon. Is that what I mean? Yeah.
Speaker: I can't. but Maybe that is a credit to the actors. The fact that like they so embody their characters. It is. It really is. know that I cannot put them in other situations. it Yeah. and i mean I know this is There's a lot of talk online these days about like parasocial relationships and stuff. But it is interesting to like really love a character and then go like watch an interview with an actor. And they're obviously obviously they're completely different people, but your mind has to be like, oh, right.
Speaker: Different, different. That's a different person. They were just pretending. They were just pretending. right.
Speaker: The head, the tail, the whole damn episode. Jaws. That's the Jaws one? That's the Jaws one, yeah. Gosh, there is so much this season.
Speaker: I love the Jaws one for the Henry of it all. I love Henry in that episode.
Speaker: Yeah, I feel like like thinking about these episodes, these are definitely ones that i in my head are like later psych. And I think part of it is the look. They're not on film anymore. Yep.
Speaker: film Yeah. I think that's a big part, but like even picturing like Sean and Gus when they're in the little town hall and Sean's just monologuing and waiting for somebody to volunteer to take them out to sea.
Speaker: Like that feels like later psych in my head. Yes. Well, so you know, what's interesting, like, Did we say how old they were when they started filming this James and Dulé? When they were filming? We figured that out at some point. Yeah. I don't know. I know we we worked very hard to figure out Sean's age.
Speaker: Less so James's real age, but um I don't recall now. Okay. I kind of feel like they were in like their mid to late 20s.
Speaker: And I feel like by this point, they're maybe in their 30s. Because I feel like when we get to season four... They kind of just look like how they're going to look the rest of season. Do you know what i mean? Like, they're kind of in the beginning. That's true.
Speaker: In the beginning. And then i feel like when we get to season four, season five, they're just like men. you know what I mean? Yeah. Like, who they're going to be for the rest of the series. So maybe that's part of it, too. Like, the the way that they look in particular is, like, now solidified. Yeah.
Speaker: Yeah, i feel that.
Speaker: Yeah, and i I mean, I don't know. Some shows, I feel like you can kind of get a sense, like after the first season, that they get more money. And like, everybody looks a little bit more polished. I don't know that that really happens here. But but I don't think it does, which I i think is ah a compliment, because I really, yeah it's kind of a turnoff when I feel like when everybody looks really polished.
Speaker: polished like i I like when they I think we have talked about this a bit like Henry's truck and like their house they're like just all the production design is it makes it feel yeah very homey and real which I appreciate but I do think some of that too is the film filming on film and so i think In that sense, there's a little feel of that going into this season.
Speaker: um But I still feel like the the general look of everything is kind of the same, but it's but that grainy, cozy film feeling is is gone. It's going to be interesting to see if when we watch...
Speaker: the first episode of season four if we're like jump scare yeah well at this point we it's been eight months since i've watched a psych episode oh gosh that's i thought about starting over just like blazing through it because i mean it has that how i would do i know i know if we weren't doing this That has been one of the hardest parts of this. i've done thing I haven't watched any psych episodes since we talked last.
Speaker: And usually it's like in my repertoire of like things that I go through. So to not have it at all has been very strange. And there was a point, I'm not going to lie. There was a point where I was like, should I just watch? Should I just keep watching? like, I can't do that to Kylie. know. Yeah, I can't keep watching. Yeah, right?
Speaker: We could maybe... in advance of doing season four f one we could watch that season three finale again okay just for that like know bring us back we listened to our thoughts on it but then yeah to watch it would be good probably okay i'm down how many episodes are this because we've been at i think essentially 16 for the for The first three seasons. 16? Okay. So there's Jaws and then Mr. Yin Presents and that is all 16.
Speaker: Jam-packed season. Jam-packed. This one might take a while, guys. I know. I feel like in the first three seasons, there were many an episode where we were like,
Speaker: okay like this is like i pretty much remember what happened but like yeah like one of the hard hitters and we just went through them and i feel like we for every single one yeah oh that's a great one oh my god that's a great one oh i remember that one so yeah well it is it's like they are they found and not even their stride because i think it's been great since the beginning but i feel like they found their like voice like they are now speaking their language and they are just every single episode they're gonna be doing that
Speaker: oh and it's just going to continue to get like more and more refined as time goes on which is again going to be fun to see oh i'm so excited me too i'm glad we're getting back into it yes me too with some little babbles in the background yes i appreciate the patience in advance yes um yeah it's perfect timing really because we're going back to school baby it's true it is true september 1st is school at least in new jersey when school in california start do guys start september or august i think august okay i think
Speaker: don't know. I feel like this was this is good. A little after show, pre-show. Yeah, it is the pre-show. So exciting. Yeah, we're doing it.
Speaker: We're doing it. I'm not going to make any promises of when when it's going to be. We haven't and gone away. I know. we be we'll be It'll happen yes in its due time and due course. Correct.
Speaker: We will get through. We have pretty much on the side been like, we have to see this through. So yeah. Well, it's so much fun. It is. It's so much fun. And for a show that we love so much, like when we essentially did this the first time when we were in college with Gilmore Girls, like we, we were making connections like on the fly because you'd never seen it before. And I was committed to not spoiling anything for you. i know. Wild to think about that.
Speaker: So long ago. But now it's like something that we both are really like really obsessed with. And yeah, it's fun just getting to talk about it and and learning more about it and watching the movies and all that good stuff. So yeah, we got to keep doing it.
Speaker: If you're along for the ride with us, you can join us back here. I'm just going to say next time, whenever that time is time Well, these first couple will come out. They're already done. so we've got that going for us. So go listen to the foundations. Do that. There's some homework for you.
Speaker: And then um sometime soon you'll start seeing some season four goodness coming out. hope you'll join us there. ah Yeah. Feel free to join us back here next time where I don't remember what we ever say in the outro anymore. um Where we're going to discuss. figure all this out again. Yeah. Some more. is a little one.
