00:01:02

Shimmer's Introduction and Deception Check

00:01:53
Speaker
Oh yeah. Out of the frying pan into the fire. Verutha. I didn't expect to get back from you so soon.
00:02:03
Speaker
Well, it's not Verutha. I'm sorry to disappoint. My name is Shimmer. Pleasure to meet Shimmer. What happened to Verutha?
00:02:15
Speaker
Well, strange story. This blue man um just walked in one day and then she disappeared with him.
00:02:27
Speaker
It's very odd. You might not have heard of me. I'm also known as um the echo of a melody. Can you give me either a deception or a persuasion rule?
00:02:38
Speaker
Your choice.
00:02:41
Speaker
ah Deception or persuasion? Yes, please.
00:02:47
Speaker
I feel like she's got to be very good at these two things. ah Yeah, as a bard. And a paladin. And a paladin. And a paladin. Charisma. Charisma based for sure. All the time.
00:03:00
Speaker
Paladins are notoriously good liars. 100%. Okay. Oh, shit. A nat 20. Yes! Aw, yeah. oh shit um and that twenty yeah ah yeah Little sound effect. and Awesome.
00:03:19
Speaker
Okay. um Yeah. You kind of see this, like, the holographic, like, hologram kind of look. Like i said, it's almost like like as if looking through a mirror that's kind of been pushed out to form the shape of a face.
00:03:31
Speaker
has this kind of puzzled look, tilts its head to the side ah little bit. I've never heard of you. um Ouch.
00:03:42
Speaker
Rude.
00:03:44
Speaker
You say you're here in Verruta's stead. Why has she never mentioned you? Because I've only just met her. She trusted you to come speak with me.

Verutha's Disappearance and Ritual Discussion

00:03:57
Speaker
Well, she did leave, I don't think she had much of a choice. The other man that was with her was, um, what was the word she liked to use? Incompetent.
00:04:10
Speaker
Why would she leave with a man when I'm betrothed to her? Maybe. i don't know. I'm not Barutha. not... I'm just here for money.
00:04:23
Speaker
What a coward she is. Interesting. Well, I'm so sorry to cut this short, but I don't believe I can trust you with any the information um that I would have given her.
00:04:38
Speaker
I do believe that she sent you, because she is... She's been worried, needlessly so. So please, can you could you give her a message for me? I cannot. She's... As I said before, she ran away with a man.
00:04:54
Speaker
I have no contact with her. I'm so sorry that she said this to you. It must be very hard. It's okay. We'll find her. We have a way of doing such things.
00:05:06
Speaker
I have no doubt. she She didn't mention something before she left though. um She was working on this spell that used the bones of sacrificed children to try and stabilise something?
00:05:23
Speaker
A wreath? Toro? Shimmery thing? Doorway? Do you know anything about that? she She told me to get the ah bones, but I gotโ€”then she left, and I'm just here, awkwardly, breaking terrible news to her fiancรฉ.
00:05:42
Speaker
Hmm. Bones of sacrificed children, you say? Yeah, it's something about the false removal ofโ€”like, the magically magical removal of something creates, like, this vacuum.
00:05:59
Speaker
I don't quite understand. As you can see, I'm more of a ah more of a doing person, not a thinking person. But she mumbled a lot about that, and then she met the man, and she ran.
00:06:13
Speaker
She truly was going rogue. Hmm. Well, you canโ€”I guess you can't tell her, as you said. But for your information, have no way to retrieve such bones in which you require.
00:06:26
Speaker
It is a search in which I am undertaking as well. Although I am sure for different purposes. I would like to psychically link with Maeve. And I want her to ask um ask him if there's something he would like us to do with Baruta's home, shop, you know, you're paid to clean up after her, it seems. Is there anything in particular that they want Put aside anything like that.
00:06:59
Speaker
Before you leave, since I don't think she's coming back to the store, is there anything you want us to want me to put aside? i i think we should clear it out if you wanted to keep something.
00:07:17
Speaker
Don't touch it. Don't touch the store? Obviously I'm not there to stop you. But if you are going to be gracious enough and you say you work for Coyne. Of course I work for Coyne.
00:07:30
Speaker
I was on my way anyway. Or rather planning to be. I'll be arriving in... day todayday He does that, literally?
00:07:42
Speaker
Yeah. did do did da did did He's like, I'm very cool. I'll be arriving in Jona in eight days' time. And plan to make my way there.
00:07:54
Speaker
To, of course, see my betrothed, but i guess now those plans change. I'm so sorry. Did you want me to wait around for you, or did you just, when everything's left, then I'll just tell everyone that she's seeing a family friend or something?
00:08:16
Speaker
but How would you like to deal with this situation? If it's untouched when I get there. 500 gold is yours. If it has been touched, well, more like, most likely, 14 days or so, once I arrive in Genoa, I've got to travel.
00:08:37
Speaker
Well, that's true. I'm really bad at travel time. Like I said, if it's untouched, 500 gold is yours. If it is touched, you probably shouldn't be there when when I arrive.
00:08:49
Speaker
Well, pleasant journeys. And she does a little bow. you see as the mirror-like hologram image pushing out of ah of this reverts back into its settled position.
00:09:02
Speaker
The magic in the air kind of dies down.
00:09:06
Speaker
So we can kill him for 500 gold? where I just heard. um I'm going to keep the mask on because I still don't know if he can still see me or not,

Exploration of Verutha's Shop

00:09:16
Speaker
and I'm going to just walk out step around the corner step around the corner that was awkward in in her head still because also i don't i don't trust talking out loud yet um do you think there's anything here we should take with us can i do a little eyeball check to see what else i see i believe you guys had rolled last time actually for that um if i remember correctly but yes
00:09:45
Speaker
It's pretty plain minus some spell components. I'm trying to remember exactly how I described it last time because I think I described the components, but I did not write them down. If you want to take them... ah We had a table with a sigil with quartz, hair, alcohol, and then a blank circle for what we activated um in her Thank you for note-takers.
00:10:11
Speaker
Thank you. um We found through the trap door, three greater healing potions, two potions of giant strength, four jars. One of them, we have no idea what it is, completely black liquid with gold sparkle, poison of a storm snake, potion of invisibility, and a potion of water breathing.
00:10:33
Speaker
Yeah, those were all at Verruta's place. That was in Verruta's home, yeah. Oh, okay. And then the lair is what that, with the components. Yeah, we had quartz, hair, alcohol, and then the blank circle.
00:10:45
Speaker
Yeah, and then Calden found the sigil that was necessary for us to activate the circle. Right. You see the components are still there. They did not get used. and Rather, was just almost as used as like filters for the magic, essentially.
00:10:59
Speaker
The mirror is a handheld mirror or
00:11:05
Speaker
like a desk mirror? Yeah, more like a desk. um Almost like a desk mirror, kind of similar to like a picture frame. Should we take that? I don't know that it in and of itself is beneficial.
00:11:18
Speaker
Clearly, it was ah single component for this entire ritual. Is it a um magical mirror? You're not in this room. Shut up.
00:11:30
Speaker
Shit, I am not in this room. I cannot fit. Talera, what was that? How did you know about the mirror? I felt it!
00:11:42
Speaker
I sense mirrors. yeah i smell mirrors. It is a hidden talent. but We are learning something new about Talira every day.
00:11:56
Speaker
lord. Sorry, my cat decided to come in and say hello. Never apologize for your cat coming in to say hello. I agree. Hi, kid. Oh, my goodness. What a baby. Is that the Luna cat?
00:12:09
Speaker
Yeah, just the Luna cat. She's just like, hello, I want to play. And now she's praying very, very loudly next my mic.
00:12:21
Speaker
um But we ah you have a way to, like, detect magic. Or something. Oh, I do. so So we can see if if the mirror is just a mirror.
00:12:34
Speaker
Well, it's not, obviously. Well, it was a component in a ritual spell. It could just be a mirror. True, true, different mirror. Okay, I can do it. I can do it.
00:12:44
Speaker
um I'll probably have to remove the cast. She's a lovely lady, but she's a loud lady. Unless she wants to calm down and stop being super happy and purry, but Oh, she's sniffing the microphone. I can hear it now. She literally just put her head up and just sniffed it. anyway i Can you do detect magic?
00:13:06
Speaker
Yes, I can. um Let me give me one second. So I pull out my my lyre and I strum a little tune and I cast detect magic.
00:13:21
Speaker
You see that mirror is indeed just a plain mirror. And just used as a component in the and the ritual. Okay, don't care about it.
00:13:33
Speaker
I don't need mirrors. I know I look fabulous. Oh my goodness. I was like half tempted halfway through that to try and channel a star in and I just immediately...
00:13:47
Speaker
and You have to have the ha-ha chuckle. Ha-ha. Darling. Well, now I'm really curious what you guys are going to do with that information. Me too!
00:13:59
Speaker
Hmm. Okay. So, as you all kind round the corner, you do this this detect magic, see if there's anything really that you want to take. If I remember correctly, Yellen Talira, you all are down on the ground outside of this, right?
00:14:14
Speaker
Yes. Okay, that's what I thought. Yeah, they didn't climb up, did they? No, no. Talira, we, I forgot that y'all were in the cave like a dummy. And ah yeah, Talira would not have fit up there. So she would have just stayed down.
00:14:32
Speaker
Yeah. Yellen's not much of a climber. So yeah. Okay. So we head back out, climb back down, I'm guessing. ah Yeah. I'll make the executive decision. We climb back down.
00:14:44
Speaker
I mean, ah you could try to like jump if you wanted, but like I fly down. i fly down. i fly down.
00:14:56
Speaker
Talira, catch me. um no I stay.

Speculations and Humor About Verutha's Relationships

00:15:02
Speaker
Well, I go put my fucking armor back. Oh, I shouldn't swear. that's right. You got naked. I didn't get I did not have my armor on. I obviously had my under padding on.
00:15:13
Speaker
No, but imagine, imagine she's wholly naked except a mask. And she's like, Verutha sent me.
00:15:26
Speaker
And he just stone-faced, yeah um Everything about this conversation just took on way funny, your undertook. Welcome to Only Dragons. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah.
00:15:41
Speaker
i Oh, boy. Oh, boy. I just imagine, I just imagine Kalden comes out and kind of thinks about jumping and like looks down at Yellen and like, would Yellen catch me?
00:15:54
Speaker
yeah He did not! He did not! Slander! Meanwhile, Talira as Fezzik at the end of a of Princess Bride.
00:16:05
Speaker
He jumped out the window.
00:16:10
Speaker
Oh, my gosh. know, it comes out. Yellen! Yellen's like, oh, what do you think? Do you think the red would go better with what I've got on? well He's so gay. Because i I just think the red would clash with my, ah you know, the blue.
00:16:30
Speaker
i don't know. Maeve, he's very gay, right? don't know. don't know. ah don't really pay attention to colors. I just kind of put clothes on. They get covered in blood anyway. Everything turns red and brown.
00:16:45
Speaker
Well, I mean, you do a good job before it turns red and brown. sir it Because she is gay. And she doesn't know anything about fashion. So is he straight? I hear... Calden?
00:17:00
Speaker
Yeah, look, they're back. Oh, hello. How did it go? Hello. We met people. I should take my mask off. don't know if it went poorly or not.
00:17:12
Speaker
we We met her fiancรฉ. what was he like? We told him his fiancรฉ ran away so upset. Who did you say he ran away with?
00:17:23
Speaker
With another man. another Oh, shit. A random blue man. what Blue? she She didn't say an elemental. He's just blue. Yo, it's like, wait, wait, no. No.
00:17:40
Speaker
but Wait, what did you think about the oblig implications of this? Now you're going to make him the man that's yelling. but I didn't say was it was a teething. I think that would have been the first thing that's blue.
00:17:52
Speaker
You're just saying a blue guy.
00:17:57
Speaker
What can I say? Oh my gosh. Yellen, is there something you need to tell us about Varuta and you? Are you cheating on me?
00:18:08
Speaker
She died in front of us. I knew it. I knew it. No, I'm kidding. She died in front of us. Oh my God. Although, know, you did jump in rather quick to try and help her soul get along somewhere.
00:18:29
Speaker
a bit suspicious. Is it because there were other feelings happening in that moment? I don't know what's happening here. I don't know why I was the blue guy, you know.
00:18:41
Speaker
ah But if the shoe fits, I guess you are now. who came up with the idea of a blue guy? It couldn't have been like a green Well, she did say that her fiance was blue. So I was kind of hoping that we weren't talking to her fiance.
00:19:02
Speaker
And that was the alluded. That's fair. that's fair then it turned out that it was her fiancรฉ we were talking to, so it got really awkward. and um And now she's running. I mean, it's better than telling her that we murdered her because she was killing children.
00:19:20
Speaker
But also, he is coming here in 15 days. We probably won't be here in 15 days. No, but we could steal 500. Or not steal.
00:19:33
Speaker
Stealing is wrong and bad. Don't steal people. I think it's not called stealing when they're dead. I think it's called something else. least Looting. Grave room? Yes. Yes.
00:19:44
Speaker
Well, it's not a grave, is it? Ransacking could work if there is destruction of property involved. I don't know why I know that. That is weird of you to know.
00:20:00
Speaker
It was part of adventurer training, I guess. You guess. I learned it somewhere. i don't remember. Anyway, what next?
00:20:13
Speaker
Well, he also said that he was looking for children's bones, but probably not for the same reason. So I should have inside checked that.
00:20:24
Speaker
Fuck. It could have been maybe something we should think about. He doesn't know where the children's bones would be.
00:20:37
Speaker
Yeah. Did he say why he needed the bones? no No, but he said he was very curious and wanted to know. So he's after the bones too. Yes, I made up a lie, but maybe it wasn't a lie or something. To honest, i couldn't really follow what you were saying. i was i made i tried to make it out that we were after the bones for some magical spell because there were the the removal of magic forcefully from a child creates a vacuum that creates some like anti-magic stuff um to close portals.
00:21:17
Speaker
And I made it up on the spot, but maybe I'm just really smart and know everything. He tries really hard not to snort again.
00:21:30
Speaker
her knows? But he was really interested in the bones.
00:21:36
Speaker
Well, then we need to find the bones before they do. Yes. It seems to me we have a minimum of a 15-day head start. That is true. Which good, because how far away are we?
00:21:50
Speaker
Would maybe like a bloodhound or a dog or something help? we should get um maybe Maybe your friend might have something of her daughter's that aren't, I don't know.
00:22:04
Speaker
We can find her body, maybe, oh if someone's child that's missing, and clothes, and smell, and dogs, and... There are magical tracking methods.
00:22:18
Speaker
This is true, and, um... But dogs. I'm trying to remember... Hey, I'm also trying to remember, player, Wuz, did... How much did we learn about...
00:22:32
Speaker
what the other party found in our initial briefing.

Mistborn Village and Communication Challenges

00:22:39
Speaker
So, and ah you also talked to Yari, and she told you a little bit about, like, what Siobhan had reported. ah believe you would have known that they found the Mistborn village in the in in the middle of the Misty Wood.
00:22:56
Speaker
But I believe it was also reported they were no longer there. Okay. Because by the time you guys got here, it had been some time, of course. um I believe you already mentioned Siobhan had told her they're not there anymore. They don't know where they're at.
00:23:12
Speaker
Okay. Okay. Now, did that include the Mistborn and what we know um we found in the Mistborn village?
00:23:26
Speaker
It would just be that the Mistborn entities, as well as the children's bodies, like were not found at the village. Okay. Boy, they really didn't send us in with a whole lot of information, did they? Huh?
00:23:40
Speaker
This is an organized guild you guys work for? Jeez. Adventurer and Gale just gets a contract and is like, listen, this is what we got. You can take it or not. Yeah, yeah.
00:23:52
Speaker
Okay. So, yeah, even Siobhan um leading us back to where the children's bodies were found before they weren't there anymore.
00:24:04
Speaker
There could still be clues. It's true. Yeah. Yeah. So, and obviously you're just getting second-hand information through Yari. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, I think we need to talk to Siobhan and see what exactly she learned.
00:24:21
Speaker
Because what Yari said, they found Mistborn village, but the Mistborn were no longer there. Perhaps the bodies were nearby?
00:24:33
Speaker
we learn anything of whether or not they were found? No. no They didn't say anything about being able to find them.
00:24:44
Speaker
It was fully deserted and everything was taken out. That doesn't mean they didn't leave some sort of clue. um And maybe Siobhan knows more. Do you have a way of communicating with her without us going all the way there?
00:24:59
Speaker
Not really. a If someone... Well, no, because the sending stone only worked for the captain, right?
00:25:12
Speaker
ah Yes, the sending stone only goes back and forth between the captain and us. They can be calibrated differently, can't they? Do you know how to cast the sending if I were to describe Siobhan to you?
00:25:26
Speaker
I don't have the sending spell ready, unfortunately. Well, you just need a good nap, right? And then... Yeah, then I'll be able to prepare my things.
00:25:38
Speaker
Is Gwynedd closer to us than Siobhan? Let me think. Gwynedd? Would we be closer to Gwynedd? Yeah.
00:25:50
Speaker
You guys are on the same peninsula as Siobhan. You guys are just across the mountain the mountain range. Which, don't get wrong, it's a long, it's not like it's an easy trek, it's a long trek, but Gwynedd is on the mainland of Nichotare, which is a much longer trip.
00:26:05
Speaker
I could always cast Divination if we need to potentially find something out as well. What does that do? what um It puts me in contact with
00:26:19
Speaker
with a god or someone who worships under them and a um I can ask a question about something we're doing. oh And do you find that the gods are usually helpful?
00:26:31
Speaker
um Well, you know, I think so. Sometimes. That's nice. It seems that either way, we'll have to wait for you to be able to prepare those spells, correct?
00:26:44
Speaker
I have divination ready now. So how does it work? What do you ask? i Well, I just get to ask a question about information that we may need, and then they may give me a semi-cryptic response, or it could be something straight, so...
00:27:03
Speaker
Just depends on what we want to do. If we want to have to decipher something or we want to wait till tomorrow. ah What is barring us from both? Also true. Can you ask if going to Orlonis will help us solve the case faster? could probably ask that.
00:27:18
Speaker
Can you just not ask where the bodies are? I could also ask that. Let's ask that one. Okay, let's do it. So I will cast divination.

Divination Ritual and Cryptic Messages

00:27:31
Speaker
I will ask you, do you have a sacrifice ready? shit. Just kill Kalden. It's fine.
00:27:41
Speaker
Murder. I'm not a big harper on components. I'll tell you, i'm i might like to make sure that you have components if they're worth over like 100 gold. But this one specifically, because it asks for a sacrifice for divination, this one specifically, I generally will ask for some sort of sacrifice.
00:27:59
Speaker
It kind of fits the tone. What exactly do I need? Let me double check. I just pulled it up. Incense and a sacrificial offering appropriate to your religion together worth at least 25 GP, which the spell consumes.
00:28:14
Speaker
Right. I'd assume that you'd have incense. I'm not worried about that one. I'm just specifically some sort of sacrifice. What kind of sacrifice falls within your religion? a wine? Well, it depends. Wine and mushrooms?
00:28:28
Speaker
Yeah. ah
00:28:33
Speaker
We deal a lot with, them you know, the things in between life and death and the way there. so maybe Actually, mushrooms are kind of fucking perfect. Maybe the mushrooms, maybe something from Berutha, depending.
00:28:48
Speaker
How would the mushrooms be a sacrifice? I... in In my mind, so like providing a religious sacrifice always involves the death of something. So I'm just curious if that's accurate or not.
00:29:09
Speaker
can i Can I roll a religion to see potentially what would help with this? or Yeah, absolutely. Go for it. Okay, I'm going to do that. That's not super great. Let's see what we got.
00:29:24
Speaker
Religion. That's only an eight. Ouch. How do you not know anything about your religion? I don't know. It's been a while since I've had to divinate.
00:29:36
Speaker
Yeah, you with an eight, I'll give you like maybe a death, but also, you know, that your religion is very based on balance, right?
00:29:47
Speaker
Your following of Isaka and balance and harmony of the soul is one of his big things. It's it's preached to you in your teachings. So with death might need to come some sort of life. How you do that with a sacrifice? It's a great question.
00:30:01
Speaker
um But is death required? As another question comes in your mind. um Can I roll?
00:30:14
Speaker
I mean, you're more than welcome to, yeah. 24. Holy shit. It was in that 20. Nice. So perhaps would what I have maybe ah been witness to similar things before for whatever reason?
00:30:35
Speaker
make Probably and within a different religion or beliefs system, but you can kind of, you can kind of put two and two together, use some chris critical thinking, pattern recognition type of thing to maybe have an idea of what might work.
00:30:48
Speaker
And rather than maybe killing something, maybe something kind of in the middle, right? So... Something along the lines of maybe injuring something, but then healing it. You have that balance, death and and death and bring it back. Or because it's it's less about maybe the sacrifice of a life and more of the sacrifice of your your time or your emotions of having to do something like that need um almost needlessly.
00:31:16
Speaker
That's better. I was afraid it was going to be, well, the opposite of death is, you know, life. So we got to get pregnant. yeah
00:31:26
Speaker
was like yelling, I'm sorry. Done. Now we know who's the top in there.
00:31:36
Speaker
Wow. Damn it.
00:31:39
Speaker
Please cut that. but It's not all of this. It's not the whole episode. Goodbye. We'll start again tomorrow. I say leave it in but whatever. Please cut that.
00:31:54
Speaker
So anyway, um I've seen similar types of rituals before.
00:32:07
Speaker
They different. The requirement for sacrifice has been different for each one. I wonder if maybe for yours, because it cares about life and death, maybe healing a wound or something? Oh, you can stab me if you want.
00:32:28
Speaker
yeah That was an escalation. what's a Stab you if we don't have to. Just little slice, so then we can heal it, and then we can be on our way. What about planting something? That is something we do with the Goliath tribe.
00:32:43
Speaker
That's not a bad idea. um And I was also thinking, maybe if we had like a, if there was a cocoon nearby or something? Like for a moth?
00:32:55
Speaker
Yeah, something like that. It's new life, essentially. It's the same one, but it's new. Now, guys, how do we make, how do we determine like a wound being healed in terms of monetary value?
00:33:14
Speaker
I'm not worried about that. You don't need to worry about the monetary That's definitely, that's definitely 25 gold worth of scratch right there. but first How much would the doctor, how much would the healer charge? There you go.
00:33:25
Speaker
$5,000. I sneezed in their office.
00:33:29
Speaker
i sneezed in front of their office Wait, do we have health insurance? Yes, but you haven't met your deductible yet. what What's the healthcare system like in Aon? Yeah, what is... Do we get dental?
00:33:48
Speaker
that That's a great question. ah You know what? you will We will ask. Maybe that's a really good question to go ahead and ask when you're on the radio show next.
00:33:59
Speaker
If we get dental. They don't even have dental. Before I sign this contract for the guild, I have to ask, does this come with any kind of life insurance policy? Is it kind of a high-risk job?
00:34:15
Speaker
And I'm getting punched in the face a lot. do i come Does it have dental involved? I'm going to need a good surgeon. I will. Okay. So here's actually... but Here's actually ah cool detail is that like adventuring guilds, like big guild offices, generally only the ones in like cities, right? Small towns.
00:34:34
Speaker
you're in really small towns and giil up guild ah house doesn't even exist. The guild is, the adventuring guild is just a board in the middle of town, right? um But you go to like bigger cities where they actually have the guild houses, they generally will have a healer on staff that is free of charge.
00:34:49
Speaker
But you have to be able to make it to the city to use it. but Right. But yeah, so it doesn't get used super often because most people, if they have to travel that far to be healed, they're... Yeah, it's just... They're fine. Yeah. They're fine? If they can make it that far, they they're already healed up. Exactly. It's one of those things like, yeah, join the adventuring guild. We got free healing.
00:35:17
Speaker
They're out there picking fights right in front of the building because they're like, I need to get my money's worth. ah the The most action it generally sees is from the tavern brawl fights, honestly.
00:35:29
Speaker
Yeah. With alcohol poisoning?
00:35:35
Speaker
Pretty much, yeah. Okay, are we going to look for a moth? How are we going to try and find a moth in a forest? Or a seed? That's good question. Do we have to wait for it to grow?
00:35:46
Speaker
How long does that take? I see a pine cone up there. That is an easy thing we plant. Put some fire under it because a pine cone needs the fire to open up to release its seed.
00:35:59
Speaker
Do we have to wait until it started to grow? That's going to take a while. No, no. Pine cone. Have you seen a forest fire? After a forest fire, the heat opens up the pine cones and allows them to fall, the seed fall.
00:36:16
Speaker
And then ahsh help the helps the plant. It is birthed out of death. ah I think that's worth trying. And, you know, maybe maybe all things considered, it will count the time that we've put in trying to figure out what a sacrifice is as the sacrifice.
00:36:37
Speaker
We need to make sure there is a proper ash bed for it to grow.
00:36:44
Speaker
So we caught we make a fire. Okay. I start collecting wood. Can I spot a pine cone? Do I need to roll for that? For a pine cone in the woods? No, you do not. You do not need to.
00:36:58
Speaker
Rolling out one. I actually don't know what pine cones look like. Sorry. You're in the middle of pine forest, but like, ugh. We've only got acorns.
00:37:13
Speaker
Unfortunately. Okay, grab a pine cone. um Okay. And now we...
00:37:23
Speaker
Talira probably will head making the thing around it so we have a proper ash bed. um No, we just need to make a bonfire. ah Easy. Is it dry season?
00:37:40
Speaker
ah No, there's never a dry season here. Oh, good. Okay. Less worry. In fact, the fact that it hasn't rained in the past couple days is probably a miracle. Or concerning.
00:37:52
Speaker
Or concerning. Yeah. But don't worry, guys. Climate change isn't real. It's fine.
00:38:01
Speaker
Climate change in Aeon?
00:38:05
Speaker
It started now.
00:38:09
Speaker
We have a definitive root cause here. Okay. i I mean, do you need us to roll for anything to create a bonfire and put an acorn or a pine cone in it?
00:38:21
Speaker
Put an acorn in it because Kaladin doesn't know what pine cones look like. I don't think I need you guys to roll for anything. you're more You can absolutely do it. um It might take some time depending on how what the wood you find is and everything. but But no, I think you all can do that just fine. Can you roll nature that then?
00:38:38
Speaker
I really don't think I need you guys. I know you probably want to roll something. I really don't think you need a roll for this. I'll be honest. You all have made fires so many times. Like it's. And honestly, if somebody has pressed digitation, all they have to do is snap and.
00:38:50
Speaker
Right. Yeah. um While I'm trying to finish this up for you for this specific thing, Yellen, can you describe to us what your spell looks like if as you use divination with this specific sacrifice?
00:39:05
Speaker
I absolutely will. So as the ah smoke begins to rise from the fire and the pinecone put above it, Yellen takes out the same lantern he used um to help guide Verutha.
00:39:18
Speaker
And he kind of holds it above but finds a way to hang it above the smoke rising and you watch as the smoke kind of absorbs into the lantern
00:39:32
Speaker
and it glows slightly and a face appears trying to describe what's in my brain right now hang on um yeah so a figure appears in smoke above the lantern kind of like as it spills out but upwards
00:39:53
Speaker
And it just stares at us for a while. Yeah, it just kind of looks at... Look back at him. looks at us It kind of looks down at your sacrifice, kind of looks up at you, going, really? A pine cone?
00:40:05
Speaker
No, I'm kidding. We all point at at Talira. ah This face kind of appears...
00:40:17
Speaker
Soulkeeper. Hello. um We have a question for a quest. How may I guide you? We're looking for the remains of children cast in a... or used in a ritual by a woman named Verutha.
00:40:38
Speaker
It wasn't Verutha who did the casting. Well, it was the Mistborn, correct? Mm-hmm. the ritual cast by the Mistborn.
00:40:49
Speaker
They're looking for the remains of those children. You see the smoke that you had described, the face sort of wisps away, and the smoke begins to twirl, but a voice still emanates.
00:41:05
Speaker
It begins to show wispy, slightly hard to make out, but you're able to see the details enough As you see gravestones unmarked, and you hear the first line of this omen.
00:41:21
Speaker
The innocence you seek, the earth did not take. And it wisps again to show a new image. And it shows the maw of a creature with extremely sharp, jagged teeth.
00:41:42
Speaker
with a faint light in its otherwise dark throat. A path you must find. Primal in nature it must be.
00:41:56
Speaker
It wisps again. And for the third and final line of this omen, it shows an image that is only familiar to you.
00:42:08
Speaker
Yellen. And it's kind of what appears visually of a soul untethered to its body. Find physical.
00:42:20
Speaker
You will not. But your journey will still be fruitful.
00:42:28
Speaker
Thank you. So does that mean the bones don't exist anymore? That does sound like what it may be. um oh the What was the last imagery it showed? The light?
00:42:48
Speaker
um The creature. oh No, no, after the creature. It's a soul that was untethered from its mortal shell.
00:42:59
Speaker
um Like Siobhan's daughter. Yeah, Siobhan's daughter maybe. her soul Her soul is untethered.
00:43:10
Speaker
They have the body and they have the soul, but they are ah not together. How did they get the body? I don't know. Well, we should find her soon because that's not a Maybe hers was left behind for some reason, or they found it on the way since they didn't find anything at the actual village.
00:43:29
Speaker
No, what the professor said was that his student was able to see into the ethereal plane... And was able to help the child, but I i don't exactly know what that means.
00:43:44
Speaker
How do you help a soul? Well, we have an expert.
00:43:50
Speaker
It's a complicated process, but ah you can help a soul. um It just depends on the soul, I suppose. Do you know how to re-tether one?
00:44:04
Speaker
Do I know how to retether a soul? Is that something that we teach? Yeah, in certain circumstances.
00:44:14
Speaker
I mean, there's potential that I can, but it's um it's not easy. It takes the right circumstances. It seems worthwhile to go there, if only to see if we can help with that.
00:44:27
Speaker
and Indeed. her daughter has any information, that it might be Could be beneficial to talk to her. She would be a living victim.
00:44:39
Speaker
The only one. Exactly. Alright. When do we want to head out? Probably not today. It's already getting late in the day to be starting.
00:44:50
Speaker
um we also have that fiancรฉ coming in 15 days. I don't think we'll be able to make it there and back in time. It's too far. Quite honestly, fuck the money.
00:45:02
Speaker
I don't care about money. He's got information. We do. we we have someone who could meet him for us. We could send Hess with whatever the fiancรฉ wants.
00:45:17
Speaker
See if he could gather the information. I... um Put this nicely. Would not entrust Hess with anything of importance.
00:45:30
Speaker
Ever.
00:45:33
Speaker
Honestly, though, might not be able to trust him to be competent, but we can trust him to want to ah make it up to Yellen. Right, but without us here to make sure that he's also competent, it seems like it could cause problems.
00:45:53
Speaker
Is there someone here we could entrust with watching over him?
00:46:00
Speaker
What about Yari?

Bear Encounter in Town

00:46:03
Speaker
Yari knows Varuta was shit. Now she knows Hes is shit. She's competent. yeah oh shit.
00:46:15
Speaker
I ah missed probably quite a bit with what you guys said. come in real quick. we were We were discussing benefits of putting Hess in charge of meeting up with the fiancรฉ when he shows up.
00:46:36
Speaker
And then was saying that he does not trust Hess to be competent enough to handle that situation as much as he might yeah you know be gung-ho about it for the sake of impressing his new-new crush.
00:46:50
Speaker
He has a family, doesn't he? like a life i think yeah yeah yeah he did right well you know maybe it's an open relationship
00:47:00
Speaker
And that's about where we were at. We talked about having Yari in charge of him. Right, yeah. Talera suggested that maybe, um like, no, we can't trust Hess anywhere near as far as we can throw him, especially he's not competent. However, we can trust that he wants to impress Yellen.
00:47:22
Speaker
So maybe we can use that to our advantage. And then she suggested having Yari be the one keeping an eye on him. Yeah, Maeve did. Oh, yeah, Maeve did.
00:47:35
Speaker
Well, if you want to continue where you left off, go for it. Thank you for getting me caught up. I mean, we could. I don't... I don't think it's an entirely bad idea.
00:47:49
Speaker
i i am... I mean, it would be her decision to make. i am concerned about getting additional people involved in this ah anymore. It seems to be a much wider-reaching thing than we ah originally understood.
00:48:07
Speaker
But that would be her decision to make. Yes, I i agree. i don't want her to get involved unless she feels comfortable getting involved. But she has been as interested in getting to the bottom of this as all of us have.
00:48:23
Speaker
She is... She understands personally what it means. And... At the same time, it may give her a little bit of control back.
00:48:40
Speaker
We let her decide what to do with Hes. I think that's that's fair. That's totally fair. I agree. As you all begin trekking your way down the side of this mountain through the trails of this pine forest, you all know your way.
00:48:57
Speaker
takes a bit of time, sure, but you all make your way back into Nevoa. And you're able to find your way to house pretty easily. As you approach it, though, you start to hear some noises from a distance.
00:49:13
Speaker
they They sound concerning as you hear like the sound of Yari's voice. You can't quite make out what she's saying, but it sounds in distress. Not necessarily screaming and painful, but definitely distressed. and And you hear the... Let's see if I can do this like I did earlier.
00:49:30
Speaker
You hear a couple other sounds. who oh oh um Maybe we should come back later. I think she's indisposed.
00:49:46
Speaker
What is that? Sounds like and she probably didn't do that well. Is she being attacked by a moose? did really well earlier than trying to...
00:50:01
Speaker
No, I think we should probably see if she's okay. Yeah, we, yeah yeah. Genuinely, we should we should go check.
00:50:09
Speaker
um Can I, like, ah nature check to see if I can determine what that was? Yeah. Absolutely. I will give guidance to some wish I could recreate what I did earlier. was practicing it for this, and I did it really good.
00:50:22
Speaker
ah I love it. even, like, had... I had my buddy listen to it and i was like, dude, I'm trying this for the first time. I was like, tell me how good how how good is this? Because I feel like I surprisingly did good. rolling it And he was like he's like, you know, I'm not going to lie.
00:50:36
Speaker
It was way more impressive than I thought you it was going to be. That was a 17 on the dice. That's 19. Fantastic. You're the one I was hoping would roll well because you you recognize the sound of a bear.
00:50:51
Speaker
That is a bear. Ron? ron i rather A very bad sounding bear.
00:50:58
Speaker
Does the bear sound pleased or upset? ah i mean, it doesn't sound like it's... It sounds like the bear's in distress more than anything maybe not super angry, but definitely not in the best of moods.
00:51:20
Speaker
Okay, this bear is un unhappy. yeah I'm going to go help it. Yeah, we run. but Sounds like a good idea. Yeah, I follow. Alright, as y'all start running ah running, you begin to hear Yari's voice more clearly.
00:51:35
Speaker
um As she's like yelling, Back! No, back! Get! Get out of here! I don't want to hurt you!
00:51:44
Speaker
Talira is going to put her hand, like her fingers, in her lips and do that whistle like really loudly i can't do it uh but um yeah just to make a very loud sound to try to catch the bear's attention okay i'm gonna give my bear sound one more shot god i did it so good earlier i'm so angry that who that was a little better that was better and as you
00:52:16
Speaker
as you get closer, you see that it's like knocking things over outside our house, like tearing barrels apart and putting its head in things. And when you do that, it kind of like pulls its head up suddenly and a barrel off flies off of its head and it looks in your direction.
00:52:34
Speaker
Hi there, beauty. Who's a good bear? You see a fully grown Kodiak bear.
00:52:47
Speaker
This thing is massive.
00:52:51
Speaker
And what's your passive perception? Any of you? All of ours? Or me? 14. I think mine's shit, sorry. Yes, 14.
00:53:04
Speaker
I would say that's enough you can see that this bear is female in nature. My girl, come come And Talira pulls out her shield ah and just starts banging on it with um with with her axe, just making big sounds, making herself look big, getting her voice big, making big sounds.
00:53:31
Speaker
Okay. Are you trying to take its attention towards you are you trying to scare it away? Scare it away. Okay. Roll me an animal handling time. Oh, my Woods Bears camping training has said you make yourself look big and you make big sounds without making eye contact. And that is exactly what Talira is doing.
00:53:51
Speaker
Okay. And I'm behind her with the knife.
00:53:56
Speaker
Should any of us also be doing this or just kind of leave the biggest person in our group to it? Should should I roll intimidation or anything? it must not have come through.
00:54:08
Speaker
Yeah, asked for animal handling. If you want to try Intimidation, um I'd be okay with that. too Yeah, I'd be okay with either of them. right, let's go Intimidation. Ooh, that was a three. ah Can I try? Me, me.
00:54:20
Speaker
Five total. ah You can certainly try, yep. Yay, I'll try. Me try. and And I yell, I'm like, hey, cut it out. And then I roll.
00:54:33
Speaker
um Now. And I get a dirty 20. Nice. All right. It starts to it starts to take steps forward.
00:54:45
Speaker
And when you say, hey, cut it out for small reason, like the sharpness of your hay, it stops for a second in its tracks and kind of perks its head up at you. And it raises up on all four, or sorry, not all fours. It raises up on two legs and kind of presents itself big back at you. But it has stopped for a moment.
00:55:03
Speaker
I jump up onto Talira's shoulders so that we look extra big. We are... Do I have a giant trench coat that covers us both? You don't need to because if this bear comes anywhere near us, I'm using my giant's might.
00:55:23
Speaker
Okay. um Anything else? So you're jumping on her shoulders to be even bigger. Anything else? I'm trying to check. I can't remember. like i just wanted to be bigger than it.
00:55:37
Speaker
Okay. Nope. I do not have speak with animals. i channel all animalistic predatory vibes that Kaladin naturally has.
00:55:53
Speaker
Okay. If you would like to roll as well for an additional effect, you can.
00:56:03
Speaker
Currently, guidance the animal handling check essentially... ah Guidance? Okay. Yeah, guidance. I say Maeve got it to stop. So... Guys.
00:56:16
Speaker
um So that's a 20 plus. I'm doing intimidation, you said? Or animal hunting. Either way. That's plus guidance which right?
00:56:30
Speaker
yep
00:56:33
Speaker
ah Uh, 25 total. Holy shit, yes. Yeah, so as you get up on, you get up onto the Thalira's shoulders and begin making noise, and all of you together kind of doing this, finally the bear, the bear kind of comes back down on all fours and starts to shrink away, and it, it makes kind of one last look real quick, glance around, and then finally begins to trot off.
00:56:55
Speaker
You do notice that it is not going directly into the woods but it's not going directly into town either kind of riding the line as it kind of goes to leave what was it sniffing at i sit down so that i'm sitting on talir's shoulders no right where you want to be like i'm a little toddler yeah talir has got my hands on the top of her head And because Talira's shield is strapped to her arm, you've got, like, the shield here, like, half covering her face.
00:57:32
Speaker
And if Kalden is swinging his little feeties, then you hear little quick tap against the shield. Oh, my lord. It's not normal for a bear to do that, right?
00:57:45
Speaker
they you Not in town, no. That is very concerning. I'm wondering if she has enough food. Or... It was a female. Do you think there's something wrong with the cubs? and She wouldn't come search for humans or humanoids.
00:58:01
Speaker
For her cubs, she would go hide them. Unless they're here. Could they be here? We should go in and and talk to Yari. Oh my god.
00:58:14
Speaker
Y'all had great timing.
00:58:16
Speaker
What was going on? Scary. The bear's never coming to town. I don't know. I feel bad. if it's it's If it's looking for anything, I hope it doesn't go into town.
00:58:27
Speaker
Are alright? It doesn't look like it to will. It's sort of keeping in between the town and the woods. I would like to track it, though, after we talk, because so I am concerned for the poor girl.
00:58:45
Speaker
But anyway, we are here. We have important things to talk about. ah Are you okay? Yeah, no, i'm I'm... I'm good. I got a small scratch, but I can heal that.
00:58:57
Speaker
um That's not a problem. um I'm just shooken up is all.
00:59:02
Speaker
What? I mean, if y'all are back here, you you have some news? She's a war bear now, guys. Let's go inside. Yeah, yeah, you're right. and come Come on in. Come on in.
00:59:14
Speaker
Let's get comfortable. Oh, that was... It's so unlike the bears in this area. And she leads you all inside.
00:59:27
Speaker
you guys want me to go track this bear? Since the longer we wait to track it, the harder it'll be to find. Well, you are the one who has a lot of the information we need to talk about. um Do I? I'm here to...
00:59:41
Speaker
I can go try to track the bear. I can follow the bear and can talk. Why do we care about the bear? I care about the bear. Then you go track the bear, we have a mission here.
00:59:55
Speaker
I also want to make sure the bear does not go into the town and hurt other people. Okay. Well, if you want to maybe stay outside, have a look and watch, make sure the bear doesn't.
01:00:07
Speaker
is okay then that is uh up to you but i think we should focus on the mission at hand okay calvin you have the information and the mave you have a lot of the information to talk about yelen do you want to stay with them or do you want to come with me um you know what i'll come with you just to make sure you don't get too injured just in case okay that works Talira does not elaborate on what information Maeve has.
01:00:35
Speaker
She's alluding to the information that you found out in the cave. I don't know what Calden knows that everyone else doesn't know now. Yeah, I think I've told everyone everyone. You interrogated him.
01:00:47
Speaker
I interrogated. no that was Maeve. No, I interrogated Hess. Yeah. Oh, Hess. Yeah, that makes more sense.
01:00:58
Speaker
ok It was not an interrogation. i'm just gonna... He just cried like a baby to you. He just sobbed. Yeah. Quote, unquote. I also just happened to re-listen to that episode as I was editing it two days ago.
01:01:14
Speaker
So, like, that information is very fresh to me. ah um Yeah, so Talira and Yellen Y'all, run out the door and try to go catch up to this bear.
01:01:25
Speaker
And Yari looks to Calden and Maeve. ah So, what's ah what news do you have? What's go what's going on? Calden looks at Maeve to start talking first.
01:01:37
Speaker
Maeve looks at Calden.
01:01:41
Speaker
Okay. um i don't remember how much she learned. She got sent away partway through our discussion with the Elder Lady. Marjorie.
01:01:55
Speaker
Marjorie?
01:01:58
Speaker
Marjorie Stuart Baxter.
01:02:03
Speaker
You taste like sunshine dust. i feel I'm trying to so hard, guys. Y'all were just here earlier today. um
01:02:14
Speaker
But did you check out Bertha's cabin? like What'd you find? Yes, she's gone. um We found evidence to the, I guess, cult she's involved in, or was.
01:02:32
Speaker
her She had a fiancรฉ that was part of the group that was set to arrive soon. And we made contact with him. He's still coming.
01:02:45
Speaker
We will not be able to be here when he arrives in about 15 days, so we won't be able to get any information out of him, obviously. We were hoping set up somehow to still make him beneficial, um but it may be dangerous.
01:03:01
Speaker
I see. um So what are you going to do? Well, we wanted to give you the option to to know a little bit more about what we know and assist.
01:03:17
Speaker
But like I said, it could be dangerous to confront him and any capacity. I see. um And we don't know anything about him, really.
01:03:29
Speaker
He's blue. Well, ah i figured as much with the water ganasi, you know? Ran away with the blue man. um it was not Yellen.
01:03:41
Speaker
Uh, no, what? She kind of squints her eyes like, uh, okay. No, that was what Maeve told her actual fiancรฉ. Yes.
01:03:53
Speaker
But also you should believe it because he will be here and if he asks questions you need to answer them correctly. ah yeah Okay, that makes more sense. um
01:04:05
Speaker
So you're you're wanting me to meet with her? Betrothed? Well, we were thinking about if you oversaw Hess meeting with the Betrothed.
01:04:21
Speaker
Hess? He's an incompetent little fella. Yeah, I know. She was blackmailing him into helping her. Oh.
01:04:35
Speaker
You did mention she wasn't working alone. ah We did give him to the wizard, though, so we should probably... The wizard. Yeah, he did. he He did piss off a wizard.
01:04:47
Speaker
And he is now a lizard. or We don't know that. Or a squirrel. I know that. don't know that. Oh, I forgot to tell you guys. Well, the wizard came by earlier. earlier the um Did he have a pet?
01:04:59
Speaker
Did he have a pet? Yeah, he had a ferret with him. That's it. That's Hess then. Oh. Yeah, he did look kind of concerned.
01:05:10
Speaker
i kind of. OK, well, that makes a lot but more sense. I kind of I kind of didn't get a great first impression of him because he was treating what I thought was his pet really not in the best way. um So I thought maybe he just, ah you know, was abusing animals and I'm, i'm you know, I'm.
01:05:28
Speaker
I'm not. No, just people. You can understand. That makes a lot more sense. That makes lot more sense. It's not big deal. Hess tried to kidnap him if it help if it makes it Yeah, yeah. Hess tried to kidnap him. I'm learning so much. Wow. um there old The more you know.
01:05:44
Speaker
Also, i'm I'm thinking back. It's been a few days. I completely forgot about it this. I'm pretty sure I was supposed to bring him paper so that he could write a letter to his family.
01:05:56
Speaker
o
01:05:59
Speaker
He can't right now. He doesn't have thumbs. Well, he could use a claw and dip it in ink. She like puts her hands up to her head.
01:06:10
Speaker
Wow. She's like, these are the people who have found all of the important information so far. How?
01:06:19
Speaker
Okay, this is... Something also about mustard and blood, I think.
01:06:25
Speaker
you like You have to excuse me if but I'm a little bewildered by this. um ah No, that makes sense, yeah. The good news is you have no competition when it comes to selling potions anymore ever again.
01:06:38
Speaker
i You know what's funny? but You know what's funny? As as kind of terrible of me as it is is itous to say, I did though kind of think about that as well. um She's so real. Yeah.
01:06:51
Speaker
Seriously, though, like, that's real. That is somebody who is in their thirty s who will consciously admit that. but I'm ashamed, but I did think about it.
01:07:02
Speaker
It is what it is. you I'm just being realistic. if I'm going to be realistic with you all, too. As bewildering as all this is, um kind of surprising, it's also not considering Hess is involved, um if you know him in any capacity.
01:07:17
Speaker
it's I'm amazed he became the dockmaster. Like, you have... It was a pretty controversial decision here in the town. I am surprised that he was put in charge of anything, yes.
01:07:29
Speaker
Yeah, yeah. Yeah. You know... I think it's just because he's good at talking to people. And so, like, I think, I don't i don't know. i don't I don't really get involved with it.
01:07:42
Speaker
I just, yeah, I don't know. My husband could tell you more, I guess. um But, okay, so you want me to oversee, oh, man.
01:07:54
Speaker
So you're telling me I'm going a have to. You can say no. Try to manage Hess? is a test. You can say no. We did not bring this to you under any assumptions.
01:08:09
Speaker
We just figured you were the most um reliable person that we could potentially trust with this. And you've met the professor he talks a bit. I tell you what, this is going to help.
01:08:22
Speaker
This is going to help the search, right? Yes. We hope so. He has information that we haven't been able to get yet. I...
01:08:32
Speaker
i I don't know this the best idea, but I might have somebody that might be better in mind for this. I just don't know how well I'm going to be at controlling Hess, and I'm not super intimidating of a person, um but I do know somebody who is personally invested in wanting to find all of this information, as, of course, most of the town is, but this one's fresh.
01:09:05
Speaker
ah And he also a large distaste for Hess, if I were to say lightly. So he might be the perfect person.
01:09:17
Speaker
Is it Animal Control? that was That was good. That was like yeah a good one. That a good one. she says She says that. Yari says that, for the record.
01:09:29
Speaker
um But his his name is Naor. Um, Naeor Splintcrack. His wife is the blacksmith in town. Sorry? Naeor Buttcrack.
01:09:42
Speaker
Splintcrack. Splint. Splint. Splint. S-P-L-I-N-T. Splintcrack.
01:09:54
Speaker
Hi, we're children here.
01:09:58
Speaker
Not another one. ah Look, ni but this ah it is it is so important for you as a DM to understand that any name you come up with, if it can almost be misconstrued into something immature, it will be.
01:10:16
Speaker
i know, I know. I just sometimes I just don't see it, you know? um But yeah. How did you not see that? Yeah. It was one letter off.
01:10:32
Speaker
when i You know, when I'm like world building, I'm just kind of in the zone, you know? Without your eyes? ah Hey, I have a really important question to ask.
01:10:45
Speaker
Do you know why our butt cracks are vertical instead of horizontal? So that we can go downstairs? So if we go down a slide, it doesn't go... but but I was on the right track.
01:11:02
Speaker
Oh, my God. And Wu's disappeared. That was like my favorite joke at six years old. I believe that. I'm going to have to tell that to my buddy's kids. That's so funny. They're going to love that. Yep. Yep.
01:11:16
Speaker
Yeah, the version I'd heard was stairs. Mm-hmm. Yep. Makes sense. um Yeah, she ah says, that his name's Naor Splint Crack. um his His wife is Guntza.
01:11:33
Speaker
She runs the local blacksmith. but We'll just say he and Hess have had some run-ins, um but he's the one who just just came back from their camping trip, essentially, childless.
01:11:51
Speaker
Um...
01:11:54
Speaker
Alright, well, we' we'll consider that then. Thank you. Yeah, um... No problem.
01:12:06
Speaker
ah just I just don't know how... how successful I'd be. You know? No, and like I said, we did not... we did not come here with any expectations for you.
01:12:18
Speaker
Understood. Um... We should probably go find our... and i wayward bear trackers though yeah i i hope i hope they're doing all right um that she she was a big bear um we'll find out indeed we will uh speaking which i leave uh yeah you as you all leave we're gonna catch up with our yelling at lira um as you all run out the door trying to now track with the bear's movements um
01:12:50
Speaker
As it had been starting to trot away, it began having sped up, kind of looking looking around, and that's the last thing you can remember of it. Can I get a survival check from you all as you try to track this thing?
01:13:03
Speaker
Oh, yeah. ah Just to layer in Yellen, right? Natural 20. Oh, hell yeah! What is with this session, guys? And that was a 15 on the dice. Or on the die.
01:13:15
Speaker
Singular. Which means... 19. Okay. Wow. Yeah, you all do a great job. You managed to see the tracks. It's a large bear.
01:13:28
Speaker
And down here, it's not nearly as hardy as, obviously, going up the mountainside. So you're able to see its tracks and and make its way. And frankly, it it becomes pretty easy. as Like I said, it was kind of following the tree line between buildings and between town and and the forest. And sure enough, as it was going, you see that there are indeed more barrels, maybe a scratch on a door.
01:13:47
Speaker
small trees and things just knocked over as it was going. As you try to hurry up to try to catch up to it, you begin to hear those noises again.
01:13:58
Speaker
oh
01:14:02
Speaker
And you come across a path this lead that leads up a little hill just out of town, and you remember... You remember the old lady, the elder, saying that, in fact, you had already been up here to drop off the body.
01:14:17
Speaker
You had to go up a little hill to her little, you can't really call it in an estate, but it's probably the nicest house in town. And you hear that noise coming from up the hill near her place.
01:14:30
Speaker
Uh-oh. Oh, dear. Oh, no. Oh,
01:14:36
Speaker
let's Let's go get the bear away from the elderly. probably a good idea, yes. ah And um as Talira is going to kind of rush up to where the bear is, she ain't afraid of a bear.
01:14:52
Speaker
And um she's going to pull out some rations and try to get the bear to sniff.
01:15:04
Speaker
would i Are we able to tell which direction the wind is going? ah With the survival checks you all just made, yeah, absolutely. um And it is, as you'd expect normally, um being where you're located, right on the the edge of the Gulf of Crayol, which is essentially the size of Gulf of Mexico. mean, it's massive.
01:15:24
Speaker
Generally, wind is going to travel in inland, um so it is indeed kind of traveling up the mountainside. Okay, perfect. Slightly at an angle, but... um and Indeed. But as you try to rush up getting these rations out of your pack, you crest you crest the the visual line and you come into the visual of seeing the bear on and two legs coming down with a swipe as you see a man who appears... You can very quickly make the judgment that he is probably like the groundskeeper, essentially. Like, he upkeeps this for the old lady.
01:16:02
Speaker
As a swipe comes down, and he's holding a spear. And a swipe comes down and hits him across the shoulder. Shit! All right. Yellen, it's time for healing. And she's pulling out the axe and is making the sounds again against her shield.
01:16:22
Speaker
It immediately turns. As her her prey had fallen from the the impact of the paw, essentially from the claw, um blood immediately started to spew out. And it immediately turns.
01:16:35
Speaker
And it starts barreling towards you. Not taking a pause this time. Excellent. Can I, as this bear is, um like, barreling towards me, bear-ling, huh? Can, ah can I use one of my charges of giant smite, or one of my uses of giant smite? Absolutely.
01:17:00
Speaker
Absolutely. um You are able to notice the bear has a very much different demeanor this time, where last time it was kind of like it was in distress and very... don't know what the word. It's not curious, but rather it seems like it was searching type of thing. this Now it is it is angry. It is now an anchored bear.
01:17:20
Speaker
While that's happening, can i Is the bear distracted enough that I could run like a little ways around and then get to the guy? Absolutely. It's barreling towards Lyra. Eyes straight ahead. Okay. I will be doing that then.
01:17:33
Speaker
All right. Talira, describe your giant's might as you grow in size. She... um One of the runes on... Or actually, all of the runes on her shield glow because the giant's might isn't something that comes from the runes. It is something within herself.
01:17:55
Speaker
But as she's activating that magic, that is all, like... flowing out of her and the the runes by proxy because she's holding the shield kind of flash too ah she and everything that she is carrying grows to size large.
01:18:14
Speaker
All right. As it barrels towards you and you grow in size, it is not stopping. what How do you embrace it it is as it's coming just full force? I wrap it in a giant bear hug.
01:18:30
Speaker
Alright, and as it... oh And throw it to the ground. And as it lunges at you, you indeed do that. And as you do you do, you see that there is a stab wound on its underside. As you as it lunges, you see that it has been hit from the man with the spear.
01:18:46
Speaker
Roll me a contested strength check for the grapple, I assume you're trying to do here. Absolutely, and with giant smite, I get that at advantage.
01:19:00
Speaker
So, let me see. I just rolled a natural one. Oh my gosh. um i I will still roll. don't know if I'll be able to lose.
01:19:16
Speaker
If you rolled two ones, that is an 11 and a 16 on the dice. Did you say strength? ah Actually, strength and athletics are the same. So, ah that's a 24.
01:19:28
Speaker
twenty four Yeah. um You take this thing to the ground. You just take this thing to the ground so easily. In fact, because it got a natural one, you as it lunges, you it falters because of the injury it's taken and maybe even more that you don't see.
01:19:44
Speaker
And as it does, you're able to wrap it. And as you wrap it, you see it's already falling. ah You didn't even have to actually grapple it to get it to fall. And indeed, you just add to the force into the ground. Hey, hey, stop it.
01:19:58
Speaker
And from there, Talira is going to take the rations and shove it in the the bear's face. Yeah. Okay. I will let you roll an animal handling check, but this bear is... Oh, yeah, I know.
01:20:17
Speaker
This bear is very angered, so it'll be a disadvantage. That's okay. Yep. Two sixes, which... Seven.
01:20:30
Speaker
Seven, yeah. eight It bites down on the rations and thinking it has your hand or something in it, it bites down and drps you to the rips it to the side, making rations fly.
01:20:42
Speaker
That's fair. I'll go ahead and remove those from my inventory. Okay. From there, Talira is just going to hold it down. Just hold it down until it tires itself out.
01:20:57
Speaker
Talira's not in any rush. It is going to try to bite you. That's fair.
01:21:03
Speaker
um That is going to be a 22 to hit. Pretty sure that hits.
01:21:11
Speaker
Yes, that just barely hits. it It matches. Okay, it rolled really bad. and Because you're grappling, it it can't get ah a good hit, but it does manage to bite down, you take five piercing damage. Okay. um While you're doing that, Yellen, as you run around, or you're able to get up to this groundskeeper.
01:21:29
Speaker
um You see... me come down. yeah You see just a normal man. He has a buzz cut. He's just in some like a rough tunic, and he you can see there's like dirt, and there's a blood sta and several bloodstains, but there's lot dirt on him. It looks like he's just been working, you know?
01:21:45
Speaker
ah This bear came out of nowhere! so The bear, we were following it. It's a good thing we did, because otherwise you may have been bear food.
01:21:56
Speaker
um yeah Let me help you. yeah Can I cast your wounds on him? And that
01:22:05
Speaker
is... 15 points of healing, Beck. Yeah, you see the wounds close up and the bleeding stop. Oh, man. Thank you so much. God, man, your friend there, she's impressive.
01:22:17
Speaker
Holy cow. Yeah, no, she's got guts for sure. Oh, my gosh. Man, the bears around here, they just never come to town. Not even here.
01:22:28
Speaker
um Do you know why it would have... Do do you know why it would have attacked... I'm like, I don't, i have no idea. We, we do pretty good of not giving bears reason to be out here. We even put feed stations for animals further in the woods so they don't come looking for food.
01:22:49
Speaker
Taliria, that's going to try to break your grapple. I'll come back to you in just a second.
01:22:57
Speaker
It got a 14. I rolled nat 20. Good Lord. That's 28. good ford let good twenty eight All right. Somebody go buy a ticket because our luck today is pretty good.
01:23:13
Speaker
All right. it is It is continuing to struggle, Yellen, as you hear Talira just being like, calm telling it to calm down and shit. She's just like, night, night, night, little one, night, you night. And she's just like bear hugging it around the neck until it it calms down.
01:23:30
Speaker
She's just like trying to choke it out. Basically, yeah. Okay. She's choking out a bear. um ah Well, this bear appears to be woman.
01:23:43
Speaker
um And it's, ah you know, ah you don't think Myrna took a cub by any chance, like wandered into the woods and came back thinking it was a dog.
01:23:57
Speaker
have you Have you seen Myrna? ah She...
01:24:01
Speaker
I... no um She barely can walk around town at this point. I don't... and No. but i She would never approach a bear. ah Yeah, I suppose.
01:24:12
Speaker
That... You know, gotta ask the important questions, you know? yeah yeah's That's fair. That's fair.
01:24:20
Speaker
We were all wondering. Curious minds. Talira, it's gonna have time to try one more time to break out of the grapple. Okay. One last time. Good lord, I'm rolling like crap.
01:24:35
Speaker
There was the one. Where did it go ah it go? 15 plus 8. 23. Alright, yeah. It continues to struggle um and slowly but surely it begins to lose its ability to to get air.
01:24:55
Speaker
can't believe you're full Nelsing, essentially. A chokehold on a bear. And yeah, sure enough, especially as as blood, you feel blood continuing to trickle out of its wound down its side across you as well, so you know that it's actively bleeding out as well.
01:25:11
Speaker
And sure enough, eventually but begins to stop moving. Yellen, quick! Can you heal? The bear? Yes! Sure, yep. um I'm going to run over and I'll i'll cast Cure Wounds on the bear.
01:25:26
Speaker
Okay. Okay.
01:25:29
Speaker
10 points of healing. And I kind of just, like, reach out my finger ah to try to not touch it, but... ah Yeah, as you reach out, the bleeding... With 10 points of healing, the bleeding slows. It doesn't completely stop, but ah it slows to almost a stop, and you see the breathing. The breathing starts to become normal for this bear.
01:25:50
Speaker
Are you able to determine whether or not she was sick? Um... Well... Can I cast like a medicine on it or something? Actually, yeah. Could I do a medicine check on it while it's unconscious?
01:26:04
Speaker
ah Yeah, absolutely. Go for it. I probably won't do very well, but it won't hurt to check. It's to be an 18 for me. Oh, yeah. That's a three.
01:26:16
Speaker
No, ah you kind of look around this bear. Actually, it's not. It doesn't look skinny. doesn't look like it's hurting for food. This bear looks actually super healthy. That's couple of scars for maybe having, you know, run into a hunter or fighting with another bear, um but it looks relatively healthy.
01:26:33
Speaker
It looks fine. i um I don't know. At this point, it's probably been a minute until Lyra shrinks back to her regular size.

Plans for Future Actions and Conclusion

01:26:43
Speaker
um How heavy is this bear? Let me look up the average. You're looking probably around like 600 pounds. Okay. For a female.
01:26:55
Speaker
So...
01:26:58
Speaker
What I would like to do, yeah oh what I will say is i I'm going to look up to make sure I can do this, but what I would like to do is um stay by the bear, ah make sure it doesn't come too and pick it up, carry it back with us, ah or or when and as the bear comes to, try to like gently animal handle it back to...
01:27:27
Speaker
get to a point where we can find somebody to speak. Actually, does anybody have speak with animals in our party? Mm-mm.
01:27:36
Speaker
Do you know anybody who can speak with animals or anything or who might know more about bears? Well, know we just visited Yari, but she might be able to.
01:27:48
Speaker
let Yes, yes, I will carry bear back to Yari. All right, and as you say that, We'll flash back over to Calden and Maeve.
01:28:00
Speaker
As you all go to leave, you walk out the front door and down the couple steps, and you hear sound of wood splintering and a crash of something from just around the corner of the house.
01:28:15
Speaker
Oh, boy. wrong motor just Run. just runs. Hand on her blade. Yeah, I'm in. All right. I'm also going to check. Yeah, as you go around the corner, see... He's just not excited about this.
01:28:29
Speaker
As you go around the corner, you see there are split you know but double doors to what would be like a basement or cellar. And you see that there has been crack of wood missing from it, and you see much smaller claws of a bear clawing at this door.
01:28:48
Speaker
To get out or to get in To get out. Okay. Well, that made things easy for me because Kaladin's first order of business was going to be to look around and see what the bear was looking for.
01:29:00
Speaker
Found it! And that's where we're going to end this session.
01:29:07
Speaker
So, audience, thank you so much for listening to another one. As I'm going to say pretty much every time, y'all have been great and players... Or rather, should I say friends at this point?
01:29:18
Speaker
Hope you guys enjoyed At this point. Yeah. At this point, yeah. Oh, man. With all this shit we've been through in the last eight months. yeah Yeah. Exactly. That's what I'm saying.
01:29:32
Speaker
yeah, I hope you guys come around for the next one. In fact, I think we are going to try to record another one now. Yep. If everybody's still good for it. After our key. Of course.
01:29:45
Speaker
So, sorry you to wait two weeks, everybody, to hear the next one because we're about to get it now, but we'll see you then. Bye. Bye.
