Welcome & College Football Midseason Reflections
00:00:15
Speaker
What is up, goal line listeners? We are back with another episode of the Goal Line, the best football podcast going today. Jordan, how you doing, man?
00:00:23
Speaker
Um, I don't know, man, I have mixed feelings today. Like I, when I wrote down the notes for this week, it's week six wrap up. And, uh, it's, I told you the other night, dude, we're halfway through college football, regular season. So I don't know mixed feelings right now. I'm excited that we're in the heart of it, but I'm also kind of depressed because we know it's coming in a couple months. So yeah, it's a, but it was a good weekend
College vs NFL Weekend Games
00:00:46
Speaker
of football. Well, college was good. NFL was Saturday. Yeah. Yeah. NFL was leading a lot.
00:00:53
Speaker
Yeah, college slate was absolutely on fire. NFL was definitely a little hit or miss with probably a little bit more miss than hit. We're recording a little bit earlier tonight. We'll probably get this thing done before the first quarter wraps up on Monday Night Football. We had no practice tonight. The Arlington Tigers were off for fall break, so no practice or anything this week. So me and Jordan figured we'd take advantage of the added flexibility and record a little bit earlier.
Oregon vs. Ohio State Analysis & Predictions
00:01:19
Speaker
With that out of the way, man, you ready to talk some football? Let's do it.
00:01:29
Speaker
All right, let's start with some college football. As we said, Saturday was a action packed day of college football. So no better place to start from the weekend than Saturday. Uh, let's start with Oregon, Ohio state. I didn't get to watch this whole game cause we did a pumpkin patch thing cause it was Huskers by a week. And apparently everybody else in Nebraska decided they were doing it too. But, um, I got to see, I saw the highlights when I got home and I got to see some of it. Uh, what were kind of your thoughts on this game?
00:01:58
Speaker
I mean it was classic dude in a lot of ways it didn't have the big slingshot effect with the fast start and the comeback of Alabama and Georgia but it put me in mind a lot of that game where just two really really evenly matched teams where you know a bounce here or there could send the game in opposite direction. One thing I do want to bring up ma'am
00:02:19
Speaker
I don't know if it was, you know, a stroke of evil genius, a little bit of luck, something that's going to end up seeing a rule change in the off season. Did you see the closing, you know, 15, 10 seconds where Oregon supposedly had a 12th man on the field on purpose on the second to last play?
00:02:35
Speaker
Yeah, dude, they're gonna they're already gonna have to adjust that I guarantee it because yeah, they did it on purpose just because they knew Ohio State can score. They burned five seconds off the clock. So I mean, they gave up five free yards to burn five seconds. Like I got a feeling that we're gonna see that more and more now.
00:02:51
Speaker
You know, there's something similar for offsides, if you're intentionally jumping offsides and it wouldn't necessarily apply in that situation, but in similar situations, if you're continually jumping offsides, I want to say it's after the, if you do it three straight times, they just go straight to a 15 yard penalty. So I think an easy way to fix this is just make 12 man on the field, make it a 15 yard penalty in the last two minutes. I think that would be enough of a deterrent that you wouldn't see teams use this. Because a lot of times if you're in the situation where it gets to the point where
00:03:19
Speaker
You know, you're in desperation mode and you feel like you need to do that. 15 yards is probably the difference between getting in the field goal range or not. I mean, let's be honest though, it was a genius strategy, like absolutely smart strategy by Dan Lanning. We have to touch on this too. Me and you were not high at all on Oregon going into last weekend. We both picked Ohio State and we both thought Ohio State would win pretty convincingly. Dude, Oregon must've just been saving it all for conference play to start because
00:03:47
Speaker
Yeah, their offense moved the ball pretty well. That was the best game Dylan Gabriel's had at Oregon. So yeah, they're going to be, they're going to be a tough out. And I got a feeling we're going to see these two teams play again in the playoff. It kind of feels like we're heading towards
00:04:03
Speaker
It, I don't know, to me, it kind of feels like we got like four teams that I could easily see being in
Texas, Georgia & Alabama Game Reviews
00:04:09
Speaker
the final weekend. And I think these are two of them. Um, and I, I still think Texas is going to be one of those two teams. Yeah. They leveled up Texas and Oregon both leveled up this past weekend. Who's your fourth team out of, out of these three, man. I'm going to say Georgia.
00:04:23
Speaker
I do say to you, I think, I think they had off. I think they had an off half dude. That's what I think happened to them against Alabama man. I think they had an off half and we talked about it back when that game happened. It just seemed like there was something in the air and that was going to be Alabama's night, no matter who came out, you know, across from that night.
00:04:40
Speaker
But yeah, I'm with you, man. You take away those two quarters and George has been a machine. So yeah, I'm right there with you. I think those are my four at the absolute tippy top championship contenders. And then the great thing is dude, you got another, you know, 10 to 12 teams below them that on any given Saturday, they could creep up and knock one of these guys off with a couple of breaks.
00:04:58
Speaker
One thing that is kind of concerning to me about Georgia though, is they give up 31 points to Mississippi State and Mississippi State is not known for having a good offense. So that kind of weirded me out a little bit when I saw that final score. It just, I don't know, in years past, you just always counted on Georgia's not going to give up many points and their defense just doesn't seem to be as finely tuned this year, which is kind of weird when, when it's them. Um, yeah, Alabama beaten Georgia.
00:05:25
Speaker
I'm not going to put too much into that game. I feel like Alabama's looked like shit ever since that game. They've played two games in a row that they easily could have lost. I, I don't know what's going on in Alabama right now, but I got, I got a bad feeling. I bet was going to get right this Saturday, dude. I feel like Tennessee's been spiraling a little bit and I think
00:05:42
Speaker
I think they're due to bottom out against Alabama this Saturday before bouncing back and having a nice, strong finish to the season. And who knows if it'll be enough to sneak out one of those last playoff spots or not. Yeah, I was going to bring up Tennessee's offensive struggles and yeah, they do have a young quarterback, but
00:05:57
Speaker
Dude, this game is going to be a big moment for him and I'm with you. I think this is trouble for Tennessee this weekend. I don't feel good about Tennessee's chances this weekend at all. I still think Nico's the truth, man. I'm not selling any stock. If I had the chance, I would buy more Nico stock right now. I think it's simply bad-ass freshmen quarterback and defensive coordinators. They got three or four games worth of film on them. And when they do that, what they're going to do, they're going to take away
00:06:23
Speaker
what you're trying to do, what you're best at, and you're gonna have to get a counter punch. And I think Nico's still trying to find his footing on that. So we'll see, man. I hope they surprised me, dude. You know the stadium's gonna be rocking. They're gonna be fired up for this one. And like you said, Alabama hasn't looked amazing. Since the first half against Georgia, they've looked imminently beatable. We'll see what happens Saturday. It's gonna be a fun game either way, but I'm heading into it with some serious trepidation as a Vols fan.
00:06:49
Speaker
We, we briefly hit on
LSU & Colorado Coaching Decisions
00:06:51
Speaker
Texas, but I mean, we at least got to talk about it. They put in absolute shit stomping on Oklahoma. Like for an outstanding rivalry game to win 34 to three in a rivalry that in the past 15 years has been heavily dominated by Oklahoma. That was a, that was definitely a punctuation point on their season through six games. Like they looked very, very tough and very, very good in that game and they deserve to be number one.
00:07:19
Speaker
Agreed, man. They're heading short. As far as what they put out on the field, the product so far, they've been head and shoulders above every other team we've seen this year. Two other things I wanted to hit on. LSU had a walk off win in overtime. That's a great win for them. They needed that win. The other thing I wanted to hit on was Colorado a little bit. Dude, we've talked about it before. Dion just has no
00:07:45
Speaker
I don't know what it is, man. He just, he doesn't get it. Sometimes there was a, in the plan, when I talked about it and I texted Seth, when it happened, there was a Colorado receiver that got hurt after a catch and he looks like he got hurt pretty bad. Like his ankle got rolled up and everything. And Colorado's offense was rolling. Dion runs all the way across the field, picks this dude up by the trainers are looking at him and makes him walk off the field and the dude can't even put weight on his leg. And then immediately the next play should or throws a pick. So.
00:08:13
Speaker
I feel like that was a little bit of karma, but dude, just so far away from the pool sometime on what's actually going on in the field. I don't get it. Yeah. The team's been surprisingly good this year. I mean, we wrote them off after that trouncing against Nebraska. They've put, you know, some good performances out there.
Conference Strengths & Playoff Chances
00:08:31
Speaker
Um, so far I went toe to toe with Kansas state, but I'm kind of with the on D on dude. I think he's an awesome recruiter, a good, uh, you know, tone setter.
00:08:40
Speaker
Is game day coach there's 134 teams in division 1a or you know fbs whatever whatever we're calling it nowadays He may be number 134 as far as actual, you know kickoff to to triple zero as game day coach The other thing too is where you're just talking about uh colorado playing Well, dude, the big 10 is 10 times worse than I thought it was going to be I I thought this conference was going to be stacked top to bottom They are not man. This conference is just like floundering and mediocrity. I mean
00:09:09
Speaker
May not have a playoff team. Well, they're, they get a playoff team, no matter what. Every, every one of the big four gets a playoff team. Whoever wants the conference gets one. I thought it was the top five ranked conference. Tamps get one. What if somebody like, you know, somebody from conference USA or something or, or they, you know, America conference passes them up because who's their top right now? Kansas state. Yeah. Yeah. I guess Kansas state, if they keep doing what they're doing, they'll be high enough. No, no, no, no. We're idiots, dude. Iowa state's ranked ninth.
00:09:37
Speaker
Oh yeah. Yeah. Iowa state doing their thing, dude. Shout out to Brock party. Yeah. So I don't know, but right now, as of right now, this exact moment, um, the big 12 has, I'm pretty sure it's two ranked teams now. Oh no, three. They got BYU at 13, Iowa state at nine and Kansas state at 17. Dude. I don't know. Iowa state's your top pick. It's, it's a little shaky. Is there any, is there any SEC team that Iowa state could go up against that you would feel like they're a lock to go in there and be,
00:10:07
Speaker
I don't think there is, dude. I think they could hang with Texas A&M. I mean, I think they could definitely hang with a lot. But I'm just saying, I don't think they're worst. You could put the worst SEC team up against Iowa State. And it's probably like a 50-50 game, dude. Yeah, I get it. I just, I don't know, man. This is a weird season, too. I did not expect the Big 12 to be this bad with as many quality teams as it looked like on paper coming into the season.
00:10:35
Speaker
I feel like some of that has to adjust for our Colorado gaffe. I mean, I still don't think Colorado is like an excellent team. The two good teams they've played on their schedule, they've lost. So I don't know. I still think the jury's out on them, but that's really all I got for college football news, unless you had anything.
00:10:52
Speaker
No, it's really to put a punctuation mark on it, dude. College has been infinitely more exciting than the NFL, man. We've been touching on the last few weeks, man, but the parody that exists in college football right now just makes it so much fun, dude. And it's a lot more wide open play calling. It's just really been a joy to watch football on Saturdays. Dude, I mean, look no further than
00:11:14
Speaker
I talked about this one with one of my buddies yesterday, like the transfer portal and all that stuff. And then I owe money. I mean, when is the, I mean, I don't ever remember this happening, but army and Navy are both ranked in the top 25. Like, dude, if that doesn't tell you something about what we got going on in college football, that that's awesome. And I'm really excited to see both those teams in the top 25.
00:11:36
Speaker
You mentioned Navy sneaks in the playoffs. There'll be everybody's favorite team if they're not. If your team's out of it, Navy's going to be like the darlings of the American football audience. Yeah, this has been fun. Oh, not to mention that Navy Army game is going to be like the best game they've ever had against each other. It's going to be like a conference championship game. And they get to play by themselves that weekend. That's going to be an incredible weekend.
00:12:01
Speaker
All right. Let's switch gears and go to NFL.
Atlanta Falcons' Surprising Season
00:12:04
Speaker
Um, obviously we're going to hit on our two favorite teams right out of the gates every week. Uh, Falcons get another W another NFC South wind. They are now three and with their business, man, made it look easy. That was what needed to happen. I wouldn't say that it looked easy. First half was not good for the Falcons. They adjusted in the second half defense, made some adjustments, looked a lot better in the second half.
00:12:22
Speaker
Also dude, Carolina is God awful. That, that team is screwed. I don't even know what you can do with that team at this point. They're just bad in every area of football. Um, but yeah, Falcons are three and own the NFC South four and two, um, overall four and O against the NFC. Like they're in a good spot right now, man. They got a tough stretch coming up here, but
00:12:44
Speaker
Judging from what I was thinking the first six games were going to look like with the schedule they had, I would have never guessed they'd be four and two at this point. So I'm extremely happy and to get three conference wins already is more than I could possibly ask for.
00:12:59
Speaker
I saw a stat pop up while we were, uh, pre-gaming at Broadway brew house before the Titans game yesterday that the Falcons actually have statistically the easiest schedule, uh, remaining for the rest of the season. So like you said, they're in an outstanding spot, you know, knock on wood, Kirk cousins stays healthy, but dude, it feels like, you know, with the Falcons, you never want to.
00:13:18
Speaker
you know, guarantee anything until the haze in the barn, but it really does feel like we're going to see them in the playoffs for the first time since freaking 2007. Also, and I thought about this yesterday and I was, um, when we talked last night, I forgot to bring it up, dude. When is the last time you ever remember the Falcons having good luck in football games? Like usually when something can go 50, 50, it's a hundred percent going against the Falcons. Like it just seems like
00:13:42
Speaker
almost everything goes right for him now. And yesterday was the first day that of this season that I can remember. Well, I mean, this first time in forever, I can remember they actually leaned on the run the right way that they should be doing gave Algier and Bijon proper carries. And I mean, those two together had over 200 yards rushing. Like that's what that team's supposed to do. Kirk cousins does not need to be thrown the ball 55 times ever.
Tennessee Titans' Struggles
00:14:07
Speaker
So going from my Falcons joy to you going to the Titans Colts game with our buddy Hawk, Jesus Christ. This was as bad as advertised, not as bad as you were originally thinking. I was pretty close, man. I predicted 13-12 and the score wasn't the exact same, but the vibes were, dude. We had a good time first out, dude. It's always a good time going to an NFL game, especially in Nashville, dude. It's a great setup. If you've never been to a game there, you got one of the best downtowns.
00:14:35
Speaker
in all of America, and then you walk across a bridge and you're right there at the stadium. So we had a blast. Like I said, we walked down, got to check out the vibe and the scene on Broadway. We got some pregame brews and some food at Broadway Brewhouse, and then walked over to the stadium, dude. The energy in the stadium was good, man. As dreadful as the Titans had been, the energy was still there, man. The Titans fans brought it, bringing the love for the home team. There's a solid group of Colts fans in the house, too. It just made it fun.
00:15:03
Speaker
Um, but the, the on field product from both teams, if I had to put one word, just uninspiring, man, there was just, there's, it seemed like there's like somehow zero star players on, on either team, man. Like nobody jumped off the field. Like as we were leaving Hawk was like, you know, yeah, he's a diehard Colts fan for those who don't know. It's like, yeah, you know, they won, but I don't feel, I, he said he somehow felt worse about his team after watching them play for four quarters against the Titans did. It was like, you know, they, they just happened to have more points when the,
00:15:32
Speaker
The clock hit zero. It wasn't like they really did anything, overwhelmed me to win the game. I don't know where the Titans go from here, man. I've given up all hope on Will Levis. He threw the ball. I've got the stature in front of me. I want to say he threw the ball 27 times for like 93 yards yesterday, which I don't know how that's possible. Yeah, they are.
00:15:51
Speaker
Here's the thing too. And me and you talked about this in the off season when they kept signing all these guys, I'm like, dude, we still don't know if Will Levis is the actual guy to run the show. So like signing all these offensive players, I'm not going to go as far as saying they're all stars, but I mean, Tony Pollard's good Ridley still really good receiver, but Hopkins is still great. Yeah. I just don't understand. Like,
00:16:16
Speaker
So you do all that and then you run the most neutered offense ever. Cause you don't trust your quarterback that what the fuck was the point of signing all those guys? Like do they play Mason Rudolph? I think they win yesterday, dude. Cause you, you could tell man, like the handcuffs were on Will Levis, dude. They barely threw the ball downfield and then, you know, Callahan's defense, the couple of times they did throw it downfield. One time it got picked the other time it should have got picked. So I get it, dude, but it's just, they're bringing a knife to a gun fight, showing up through these games with Will Levis, especially if they don't trust him, man. You at least got to cut him loose and,
00:16:45
Speaker
hope that maybe the light turns on at some point this season, but it was pretty, uh, pretty disgraceful all the way around. Yeah, dude, I just, I don't get it, man. I, this team is just, it's a weird team there. I don't know. I don't really know what to say about this team other than what you've already said. They're, they're not good. Um, there's some serious dysfunction. It feels like between somewhere between ownership, the GM,
00:17:11
Speaker
and the coaching staff, something's just not connected, man. I still think they should have just given the keys to the kingdom to variable and let variable run the entire football side of the operation, man. Again, I know the owner had wanted a more high scoring
00:17:29
Speaker
entertaining, um, you know, product on the field to go with the new stadium opening up. But dude, I just felt like variable. He just knows balding. He was going to get the most out of whatever roster he had every Sunday. Um, cause like I said, there's still some good players on that team as pretty like if you boot them up on Madden, it's pretty solid roster, but it's just not translating to what's happening on Sundays.
00:17:47
Speaker
That's the thing too. It's like, you can't even do like a hard reset at this point because you got so many guys under contract for the next three or four years, man. I mean, they traded for a luxurious need on defense. Their defense hasn't been the problem. Their offense is just dreadful, but yeah, defense played great. You say they held up. So the Colts were under five yards attempt for passing.
00:18:07
Speaker
and under three yards an attempt rushing the ball yesterday man defense did their thing but it's like i mean dude what quarterback can you even like get or turn to at this point to kind of just turn your fortunes around i mean there's not a lot out there but i think you go in a two-year tank for arch manning dude arch manning coming back to tennessee feels damn near poetic
00:18:27
Speaker
Dude, two-year tank is a lot for a franchise. That's a long time in the NFL, dude. Or you roll the dice on Shador, man. I don't know if any TV is going to be hiring him. But he's, I'm a believer, dude. But he's far from a lock for what he's going to be in the NFL, man. He's going to be, it's going to be very interesting to see how, I think he needs to be in like a really, really good situation. He needs, to me, I think Shador needs not to keep bouncing back to college football. But this is a little hybrid, man. This is called Jam Pros. I feel like Shador, I think he can be successful.
00:18:55
Speaker
I don't think he needs to go to the Patriots like Drake may. I think he needs a situation like Russell Wilson in 2012, where you're going to a team that's already got a playoff caliber roster, and they just need somebody to come in and be efficient, man. I think he could be effective. Yeah. Oh, no, man. He needs a ready to go roster. I agree with you there. I just.
00:19:15
Speaker
The other thing is, is he needs to get away from his dad, too. That's not going to help him. Like, yeah, just he needs to be coached by someone other than his dad, because sorry, man, at some point, you're going to have to get away from that and you're going to have to be able to take coaching. And I just on that team, I know we're talking about college now, but like on that team, like the mature kid on that team seems like Travis Hunter to me, like, yeah, he's a leader that he seems like he is the guy and.
00:19:42
Speaker
Dude, to me, I don't know if I'd roll the dice on any of these quarterbacks this year. I mean, if the Titans have a chance to get Travis Hunter, I think that's who I would draft, honestly. If I'm going into this draft with the number one pick, I think I'd roll the dice on Travis Hunter as the number one pick. And then dude, if you're still bad next year, then you're tanking for arch manning at that point. And then at that point you got arch manning and Travis Hunter to build your team around. I think that's a good starting point. I just, I don't think you can,
00:20:11
Speaker
I don't know. I mean, maybe Milrow, like Carson back, maybe, I don't, I mean, you're going to have to roll, somebody's going to have to roll the dice on the quarterback. He had to try to wait for Manning, dude. I feel like Manning's like, to me, he's like, can't miss guys since like Andrew Luck, dude. You know, one, he's shown it physically on the field already. And did, you know, you're not going to get nobody with like a better support system and better people, like just giving them life advice than that guy. Not going to lie to you, dude. Arch Manning is going to be the next quarterback that demands to go to a certain team.
00:20:41
Speaker
I just, I can feel it. Yeah, dude, I can feel it. He's going to demand to go to a certain team in a certain situation. I mean, it's, this isn't the first time this has happened. Like it's, it's happened numerous times. So now they got more leverage than ever. Cause especially he'll be a red shirt sophomore next year. So he'd go back to college and keep getting paid for two years. I want to say, I think he's, he's right up there with the highest paid college 15 million. I think, yeah, he's getting a lot.
00:21:06
Speaker
All right. On from, we'll move on from Titans and your misery. Um, let's talk about the Ravens commanders game. Now I know you didn't get to watch much of this, but I caught up. I watched the, like the little 10 minute long highlight packages on nfl.com today. So that's how I caught up with all the dude, the early game, the commanders are fucking
Commanders, Ravens & Lions Performances
00:21:23
Speaker
Yeah, that was my big takeaway. Obviously the Ravens have their business to Ravens are in the absolute super heavyweight class of NFL contenders this year. But the, the commanders, as long as Jaden Daniel stays healthy, they're going to be a force dude. DQ has got those guys playing with fireman and they, they push the Ravens to their limit. It's going to be really fun seeing what they do in the playoffs.
00:21:43
Speaker
Um, a big problem for the NFL is the Ravens have finally learned when they get a lead. Derek Henry went up to Harbaugh and he's like, dude, dot the eye and put me at the end of the eye formation and just let me run these motherfuckers over their guests. They did it that entire last drive. And they, I mean, there was nothing the commanders could do. They knew it was coming and they couldn't stop it. Like, dude, the Ravens are.
00:22:06
Speaker
for starting O and two and now being foreign to that team is a machine and they are going to be a big problem. Come playoff time. I know we always say Lamar has is like his, uh, his moments in the playoffs where you're like, Oh shit, man, he just can't do it. Dude. I think Derek Henry adding that much said offense just changes the way you can defend that team. I mean, cause seriously, if your goal is just to make Lamar beat you,
00:22:32
Speaker
Like, dude, that means you're going to have stack eight in the box and safe flowers has proven he can just run right past the defense. So I don't know, man, I think that team is going to be really hard to beat at this point. Yeah. Henry's looked worth the, you know, it's got the other NFL teams got to be kicking themselves for not the Cowboys. Brinks truck for Derek Henry. Yeah. Cowboys front and center, dude. But really any team, do you think about like the chiefs that they would have got them? Cause dude, the Ravens, I mean, they gave him a decent contract, but it wasn't any kind of like, you know,
00:22:58
Speaker
Staggering deal that the Ravens brought Derek Henry on man like and he is looking like an absolute bargain so far from them I think he went to the right team noted being able to run the read option with Lamar is just a deadly thing that nobody else could have offered him And I think that was just too much for him to turn down Let's go next to the Lions Cowboys game
00:23:21
Speaker
You can definitely tell this was a revenge game. The lines were pissed about last year and what happened at the end of the season against the Cowboys, dude, their offense, when it's dialed in is just a thing of beauty to watch. I mean, there's no stopping it.
00:23:35
Speaker
Yeah, first off, dude, shout out to Aiden Hutchinson, probably on his way to win a defensive player of the year this year, absolutely snaps his leg. So he's going to be done. It does sound like, good news is, it sounds like there wasn't any of the additional soft tissue damage we've seen with guys like Alex Smith have that horrific break like this. From all the reports today, it sounds like he's going to be fully on track to make full recovery and be back full steam for the 2025 season. So that's great, because sometimes those injuries like that can be absolute career changing, man. It sounds like he's
00:24:04
Speaker
going to, it was a straight up Tom Brown fracture and they did the surgery yesterday immediately. Um, so yeah, it does sound like he's going to be okay. So that's good. Uh, did you see that, uh, lion's Twitter was, uh, flooding JJ watt on, uh, on Twitter, dude, telling JJ watt to come back and sign with the lions for the rest of the season. I actually don't hate that movement.
00:24:24
Speaker
Well, get ready to fucking really have your socks blown off. Schefter was on McAfee today and he said, don't be surprised if the Lions are one of the teams that are calling the Raiders about Max Crosby.
00:24:36
Speaker
Yeah, that'd be damn near a one for one swap, dude, bringing in Max Crosby to take that just in this place, but sucks to see it man. But they're rolling. I don't know if you saw the, uh, the clips from the locker room afterwards, dude, Dan Campbell, danger, adopted game ball. Dan Campbell is the best coach in the NFL. Like not as far as like his just coaching philosophy, but it's more though, like loving his team, like just getting those guys to buy into what he's selling. Like I know me and you had a lot to say about him in the off season about him gambling and stuff, but dude,
00:25:06
Speaker
That's what makes him great though. Those guys buy into it. The confidence he has in this player. Yeah, because really what that is is showing your players you have confidence in them. Like, fuck yeah, you guys can go get this two point conversion. And you may get burnt by it, dude. But that's what keeps the fire burning so hot the rest of the season.
00:25:23
Speaker
I but yeah I thought that was pretty cool that he gave Jared got the game on the Jared got turn around get back to him and you can just tell that. The team is bought indeed like you know it's. They got some special one there man I think Detroit's got a very real chance do that you know hopefully they'll take any more.
00:25:39
Speaker
crew. Hopefully that was their one kind of big injury, man. Hutchison breaking his leg yesterday and they stay healthy the rest of the way, but they've got something really special going on there, dude. How about James Williams coming on, dude? He might end up being, he might take a St. Brown spot for the number one receiver on that team, man. Absolutely crushing it so far this season. Dude, St. Brown is so good though, man. His routes are just, and
00:26:00
Speaker
Dude, their draft class from last year is going to go down in history as probably the best draft class we're ever going to see. I mean, they hit on every single pick in that draft class. Like they got Laporta, they got Gibbs, they got Brian Branch. I mean, every one of the guys they drafted is a huge part of that team. That team's dangerous, man. I think Brian Branch had two interceptions yesterday. Everything that we said about the Lions
00:26:29
Speaker
before the season, I know you weren't as high on them as I was, but you were still high on them. Dude, that team is going to be really hard to become playoff time. If they get home field and you've got to go to Detroit, that's going to be a tough team to beat. Only problem for them though. NFC North is the best division in the NFL. That is the top four teams and point differential in the NFL. I was about to hit you with that stat, dude. I saw that first time.
00:26:55
Speaker
The NFL went to this division alignment in 2002, so that's as far back as they could track it. This is the first time in NFL history that one division has been the top four point differential man. I think the Bears are definitely the shakiest of this, but they've been handling their business against the bad teams, and that's a sign of a decent team.
00:27:12
Speaker
If you're a good team, you're going to beat the bad teams, the bad teams beach. And that's what the bears have been doing. So I think they're going to be pesky and hanging around the rest of the season, maybe fight with a wildcard spot. But the, uh, you know, I think those top three, dude, the Vikings bears and the lions, excuse me, the Vikings, um,
00:27:29
Speaker
Packers and the Vikings Packers and the Lions. I think all three of those, I could see any three of those represent the NFC and the Super Bowl this year. That's, I was going to bring up the bears thing. They have looked a lot better. The NFL did them no favors with their scheduling. No, six of their last eight games are division games.
00:27:49
Speaker
They're going to really find out how good they are after a week. I like it, man. I almost feel like, though, dude, at least you got a chance to work on all the kinks and then you get rolling. But yeah, the NFC North is going to be fun, man. The one thing about it, dude, you got a division that's strong. Maybe they end up beating up on each other so bad that you let a commander's or a research at 49ers or, God forbid, a Falcons team end up stealing that number one seed just because you got so much bloodshed within the division. Yeah.
00:28:18
Speaker
It's going to be really interesting. Because I do think whoever wins the NFC North, I think is going to be the best team in the NFC regular season. But they could very well end up not having the one seed. Completely battle tested, for sure. They're going to be ready to go when playoff time hits.
Cleveland Browns' QB Dilemma
00:28:33
Speaker
The last team I want to hit on is the Browns.
00:28:36
Speaker
What the fuck is this team doing, dude? Dude, just I get it. His contract is an absolute hindrance and you have to play him. But do you like, isn't the NFL all about wins and losses? There's no way you can convince me that Winston wouldn't at least bring some different fire that those dudes do not want to play with Deshaun Watson. They do not want to play football with them.
00:28:57
Speaker
A new conspiracy because it's the cash. They still owe something like 170 million to this guy over the next three years. And a new conspiracy that I saw flow today, no proof, no paper trail on this at all. But it makes sense, Steve, is that the Browns may have taken out an insurance policy on that contract. And if he ends up getting hurt and can't play,
00:29:21
Speaker
you know, whether it's Lloyd's of London or whoever it is, the insurance company would pick up that tab and the Browns could keep from paying it out, man. So that's something I heard, dude, which makes a little bit of sense, man.
00:29:35
Speaker
It's at the point now that people aren't accepting it on its face value that they just really believe Watson's the guy. That's where we're at. I've heard the insurance policy thing. I've heard that Stefanski himself was one of the ones that was really pounding the table saying, we can't do it with Baker.
00:29:51
Speaker
we need to go and get this guy and that he knows that his job security, basically him being the Browns head coach is directly tied to this Deshaun Watson experiment paying off. And that's why they're still, he's willing to go down with the ship if it means him and Watson going down together.
00:30:09
Speaker
It's beyond being able to justify anything that's happening on the field. Because the Browns still got a pretty solid team, man. They're playing relatively decent football everywhere else except for the QB position. And like you said, dude, even beyond the stats and the numbers, there's just a complete lack of joy. You don't ever see anybody dapping this guy up, being fired up to play with them. I can't imagine for the hardcore Browns fan, seeing Baker Mayfield just being absolutely loved by the fans and teammates down there in Florida while all this is going on.
00:30:38
Speaker
You know, I was trying to find the stat about this team. Like John Watson hasn't thrown for over 200 yards. They haven't scored over 20 points this year. Like, I mean, it's, it's all time bad. Like this team is going to go down in the history books is all time bad. And we've all, all we've talked about so far is just the play. I feel we haven't even talked about the fact that this guy's an absolute creep that nobody would want to be around in the first place off the field. Yeah. Somehow he's turned into a better human than an NFL player. I don't, that's not good because he's a shitty human. So.
00:31:08
Speaker
Yeah. Nothing, nothing good about the vibes in Cleveland right now, but I mean, dude, this is what you get for falling over yourself for a creeper. Listen to this stat. Okay. This is from Bill Barnwell from, from ESPN. One of the real big like analytics X's and O's guys when it comes to football analysis. So since 2007, there are 566 passers that have thrown enough passes. This is looking at just the first six weeks of a season.
00:31:34
Speaker
566 passers hit the qualifying number of stats. Out of those 566, so far this season, Deshaun Watson ranks 558th in QB rating, 565th in yards per drop pack, and 566 dead last in first down rate, man. Absolutely abysmal. Oh my God. Yeah. So I'm on Twitter right now, dude. Deshaun Watson is single-handedly unraveling 50 years of progress in black quarterbacking.
00:32:01
Speaker
Dude, he is, he's really bad. It's, I mean, it's like, he's going to go down as historically bad if he continues this season. It's yeah. Got some more for you. God, please, please take aid in Hutchinson's pain, triple it and give it to Deshaun Watson. Oh my God.
00:32:19
Speaker
Hey, there's a video of a little like eight-year-old girl emptying the clip with like two nine millimeters and the tweet said original tweets said in what situation would a kid need this? And somebody quote tweeted it instead of the Sean Watson autograph site. Oh my god. Dear god. Oh man.
00:32:36
Speaker
Yeah, just absolutely horrible. What's been going on so far with the Browns, man? They have such a hardcore loyal fan base. You hate to see it, man. But I still say they deserve everything they're getting for how that all went down in that 2022 off season. Yeah, it's not good. That's it for this week's notes. All right, let's hit college football predictions.
00:33:16
Speaker
All right, everybody's favorite part of the pod for the week. Getting to hear that little snippet of perfect timing is out of the way. I think we just, we may, I think we have two games to pick. We'll start off. And also Jordan won the picks last week for college football. Cause you had Ole Miss. I had LSU. That was the separating pick.
00:33:32
Speaker
Just keep, just keep blossom it over every week that I win the college picks. I already teased mine for this one,
College Football Predictions
00:33:39
Speaker
dude. Alabama and Tennessee, third Saturday in October. Alabama is a two and a half point favorite. I think they get it done, man. Tennessee, you know, they got the nice, the, the, it felt good getting that win in OT against Florida, big rival.
00:33:52
Speaker
To be honest, if Tennessee is what we think they could be, and Florida is what they've shown to be so far this season, they really should have handled their business a little bit easier than that. I think Alabama beats up on the balls a little bit this Saturday. Yeah, I do not have a good feeling about this game for Tennessee, man. This feels like a game that Alabama is going to know they just need to absolutely punish them, and I think it's going to happen.
00:34:19
Speaker
I don't think they, I think they win by seven, at least seven, seven to 10 is what I think Alabama ends up winning by.
00:34:26
Speaker
Tennessee's defense could make it interesting, dude, because Alabama's looked a little bit shaky at times. And I do think their defense is one of the best in the country. But yeah, dude, it seems their offense is just really, really slumping, man. All right, we've got a bonus one. I forgot about this one. Michigan against the 5-1 Illinois, man, at Illinois. I think Michigan gets it done, dude. I know Illinois, you probably give them a little bit of credit for taking out your corn huskers, man. But I still think Michigan's a little bit better team than them. And I think they find a way to win on the road. Dude.
00:34:56
Speaker
Did you have you seen the box score from the Illinois game this week? I'm guessing the answer is going to be no. They beat Purdue 50 to 49. Just listen to the, this is what the score at halftime was 24 to three Illinois per dude dropped 40 points in the second half of that game. That's pretty scary. And they went to OT and Illinois won 50 to 49 cause Purdue went for two and didn't get it.
00:35:22
Speaker
Nice. Dude, I think Michigan's not good, but I don't think Illinois is as good as their record either. They did beat Nebraska, but I just think that was more to do with Nebraska not playing their game than Illinois playing theirs. I'm going Michigan as well.
00:35:38
Speaker
Alright, the main event for this Saturday, you've been high on them all year, dude. Their biggest test yet, number five Georgia, heading in to play Texas, man. Do we see Texas prove to be the team we think they could be, or do they get knocked down five or six pegs this Saturday? Dude, watching Texas play, I mean, they just have athletes all over the field. Like, this team is, I think this team is good.
00:36:00
Speaker
I seriously don't think Texas loses a game in regular season. I'm going to Texas and I think they win it convincingly enough. I don't think it's going to be a blowout, but I think they, it's convincing to the point where people are like, it's eye opening that how good Texas is.
00:36:16
Speaker
I'm not as confident in you, man. I'm picking Texas to get the win, but I feel like we're due a good Georgia reminder game, right? Showing that they are who we thought they've been the last three, four years. Indeed, it's in Texas, man. I think the crowd is enough to lift them. I think Texas wins an absolute nail biter, man. I don't think they make any kind of statement. I think they squeak by the Bulldogs.
00:36:39
Speaker
They haven't allowed 38 points this entire season. I just, I think George, I think Texas is just such a good team. I just think they're the far and away the best team in college football right now. So I'm glad we both agree they're going to win, but yeah, I think Texas makes a statement on Saturday. All right. We'll see. Let's hit uni watch.
00:37:21
Speaker
I'm sticking with the the NFL man College was pretty uneventful for the knees. I did think Oregon looked really tough I don't know if those like I said Oregon's kind of a weird one because they have a different uniform combination every single week man But they did look
Fashion in Football: Uniforms & Mascots
00:37:35
Speaker
pretty tough Saturday night. It gets Ohio State Yeah Oregon just I mean everybody else could just wear their normal unis every weekend We would just have something to talk about with Oregon every single week. So yeah, they
00:37:49
Speaker
They know how to show out on big games and they always wear the best unis in college. All right. Uh, first off your game, man, the Panthers rocked out those all blue alternancy that debuted back in the cam Newton years. I always liked these uniforms, man. Yeah, they're cool. Um, good looking, good looking helmet and uniform. It's crazy. The Panthers really haven't had like new uniforms the entire time. They've been a franchise. Do you like maybe some minor tweaks on like the sleeves and stuff, but they really had basically the same uniforms the whole time. Huh?
00:38:18
Speaker
That's weird, dude. It's just like, and they still haven't got rid of Sir Purr, which is the most offensive thing about the Carolina Panthers. What's wrong with Sir Purr, dude? A lot. First of all, his name's Sir Purr. Oh, I like it. What about like Jackson Deville, the Jaguars mascot? Also horrible. What a shocking fitting that they both came to the league at the exact same time. How, what are your thoughts on Freddie Falcon?
00:38:45
Speaker
Um, I'm gonna be honest with you. I'm not wild about hardly any mascots if we're being honest right here, but I just, I mean, it's fine. Just is what it is. My, my all-time hall of fame, Freddy Falcon moment was, I don't know if you even remember this dude, it was so obscure, but it happened to me online as it was going down and me and Sheena just laughed so hard about this. So I want to say this was 2010, like the summertime.
00:39:09
Speaker
And do you remember it was like, I want to say it was like a lady antebellum concert in Indianapolis and like the wind blew the stage over and like seven people got killed. Oh, yeah. And I remember Freddie before all the details came out, Freddie Falcon tweeted to the Colts mascot, whatever his name is. He was like, yeah, he said, hey, you're not allowed to set the stage up anymore.
00:39:34
Speaker
And then in character the Colts mascot tweeted back to Freddie Falcon like dude people died man like have some consideration just to all time mass NFL mascot history moment, man Yeah, dude, you don't want to sit the stage up anymore And then the other one the Patriots rocked the the Pat Patriot jerseys, dude I think they should go back to these full-time and that's an absolutely beautiful uniform dude the home and away version of that I love
00:40:01
Speaker
They do. And I'm also, we didn't talk about his game, but I'm also really glad they started Drake may so we could see it. That dude's going to be a baller that can play. Yeah. You know, I was high on him and I was saying all summer, dude, I thought he was the best, uh, quarterback of the crop coming in this draft class, man. Really big fan of what he did at North Carolina. And I'm right there with you, dude had had some picks, but he had the absolute shittiest supporting cast, maybe a rookie quarterback's ever had for their first game, dude.
00:40:30
Speaker
And he honed tough and it played pretty good man from seeing the highlights of that one. Yeah, he looked good Alright, you're gonna get into our week seven picks. Let's do it And everybody wish one here at twice days nobody wanted to hear it once I
00:41:03
Speaker
I forgot to mention it at Uni Watch dude, I found me and Hawk on the Titans fan cam dude and sent you the pics man. What did you think of our game day drip? Oh yeah, Hawk is always dripping with a 1985 jersey that looks like he bought it in the gap.
00:41:20
Speaker
He had the Dallas Clark jersey. We were both repping by gone players. He was rocking Dallas Clark and I had on the Titans Julio Jones jersey. Absolutely cursed uniform. I can't believe you don't own a Derek Henry jersey, dude. I did. I got the alternate, the Code Blue Julio jersey. And that's just my Titans jersey, man. That's how I like it. You know I love Leo, dude. I know.
00:41:43
Speaker
All right. Before we get into these picks, dude, builds and jets have gotten started 11 minutes into the 11 minutes left to go first quarter. Jets are up 3-0. What's your read on this one, man? The bills have been slumping, dude. They got a chance to turn around against the Jets tonight. Dude, the other thing about this game is after we made our picks, the Jets fired Robert Sala.
00:42:02
Speaker
Yeah. Usually you get a boost the first week after you fire a coach. So I got a bad feeling. I got a bad feeling, dude, the bills cannot run enough offense in this game against the Jets defense. I just, I do not have a good feeling about the bills anymore. Just to have a strong defense, but how much of that was Robert Salas coaching, dude? I feel like.
00:42:22
Speaker
I seriously, he was a defensive coach, dude. Oh, brick is their defensive coordinator who is now their head coach. Like I'm pretty sure there's not going to be fall off on the defense. Yeah. I don't know, man. I thought that was a really weird firing and I'm skeptical if they get that boost. I know what you're talking about, but I don't know if it's going to apply in this time, dude. I think the bills find a way to get this one done. I mean, they went down and scored on their first possession grant. It was only a field goal, but I mean, that's more impressive than what the Jets offense has been doing lately. So.
00:42:52
Speaker
Yeah, very true. All right. Let's get into, well, let's, let's talk about week six. Like, dude, this was a borderline most incredible week ever for me and you. I went 12 and one, you went 13 and oh, we only picked one game different. It was the chargers in Denver and apparently Denver didn't know you had to play the first three quarters of a football game. Like they just assumed, uh, we'll just start in the fourth quarter and call it good. Uh, but yeah, so, uh, season standings. Now I am three one and two against you for picks this season, but.
00:43:22
Speaker
What did I pick for tonight? We both picked the bills. Okay, so if the bills went tonight, that means I had a perfect slate. Dude, that is insane though. Like seriously, one loss out of an entire slate between two people. That's fucking insane. I mean, we're basically geniuses, dude. I wouldn't go that far.
00:43:39
Speaker
All right, opening up Thursday night. This is a little bit of a shit house of a game, but it's NFL football. So who we can, we'll be watching. Broncos and Saints, man. Saints absolute puzzler of a team, dude. They looked like the freaking 85 Bears mixed with the 99 Rams, weeks one and two, and now have lost four consecutive men. Broncos are playing pretty good ball, dude. They're up and down as you'd expect with a rookie QB, but they've been playing pretty good football the last couple of weeks, man. And I think they go down.
00:44:06
Speaker
Thursday night in New Orleans, though. Short week in New Orleans. This is not good. Do we know if Derek Carr is playing? Derek Carr is not playing. Derek Carr is out at least four weeks, which is a positive for New Orleans. You may be right, dude. Spencer Rattler looked half decent yesterday. I'm one of the Broncos, though, man. Sean Payton returning home. I think he's going to be fired up, and I think they find a way to get it done. But I don't think it's going to be an easy game.
00:44:28
Speaker
The only reason I'm doing this and I hate picking the Saints, I'm going to pick New Orleans. The only reason I'm doing this is Sir Tan went out yesterday with a concussion and I highly doubt he plays on a short week. And I mean, he's basically the leader of that defense. So yeah, I'm not. And Denver's offense is fucking miserable. Dude, Bo Nix is not good. He is not a good quarterback. I know that team is not good, but that's a bad quarterback.
00:44:56
Speaker
I mean, dude, he's five games into his, or six games into his career. He's five touchdowns, five picks, thousand yards pass, and I don't- Bro. He had- I'm not ready- I'm not ready to cancel. That dude had like ten yards passing at halftime.
00:45:09
Speaker
Yeah, but they also almost came back and won the game, dude. Yeah. Well, you know what they say about almost wins. I don't know, dude. I'm just, I'm not saying, I mean, trust me, I'm not saying he's going to come back and end up being MVP like Trevor Lawrence last year, but. Okay, thank God. But I think, you know, I think the jury's still out. I'll say that, dude. I'm not, I'm not for sure he's going to end up being an all-timer, but I think the jury's out. I think he could still end up being a pretty solid NFL starter.
00:45:34
Speaker
Alright toilet bowl of the week man. Luckily we're getting out of the way early dude. No point waking up early for this one. Early Sunday morning London game. The Jaguars and the Patriots dude. I really feel like if the Jaguars weren't spending an extra week in London, Doug Peterson would have been fired after yesterday. I think even with a win, Doug Peterson might get fired after this game. They're bad that that team is really, really bad. I just.
00:46:01
Speaker
What is it that they said yesterday they've lost 12 of their last 13 games? Yeah, they're not good. I forget the last name, but one of their safeties came out and said there were a lot of, he came out to the press after the game said there were a lot of players quitting on defense. Like when you start hearing stuff like that, that's an indictment on the coaching staff. The problem is dude, New England is fucking bad too. Like this is two of the worst teams in the NFL right now.
00:46:26
Speaker
New England has low talent though, dude. New England's still playing hard, man. There's a difference between just not having quite enough firepower and not playing hard, man. I'll take a less talented team that's playing their asses off over
00:46:43
Speaker
just whatever's going on in Jacksonville right now. I, you know, I, I think the Jaguars find a way to get this done. Just cause like I said, the Patriots don't got too much. But, um, again, if I'm calling it right, put a gun to my head, I say Doug Peterson does not, this will be the last game he coaches as a Jaguars head coach for Cora. So what happens? I'm going Jacksonville as well. I just, I mean, I don't feel good about it cause that team's not good, but yeah, I'm going Jacksonville and I grew with you. He needs to be out.
00:47:12
Speaker
I'm glad we're getting this one out of the way early. Bills and Titans in Buffalo. The worst Titan teams I've ever seen in person is what I saw yesterday. I'm going, I may not pick them to win a game the rest of the season. Buffalo wins this one easily. Dude, this might be a massacre of a football game. Like, I mean, this could be one of those games where you're like, holy shit, it's 30 to zero at halftime. Like yeah, Tennessee is bad. I'm going Buffalo as well.
00:47:38
Speaker
Texans and Packers in Green Bay, it's gonna be healthy game. I think the Packers get it done dude Texans are tough man I talked about it last week or the week before I think you got to look beyond the numbers because CJ shroud is so freakin clutch and This team is good at finding a way the last, you know, six seven minutes to put a game away
00:47:59
Speaker
But statistically, they're playing with fire a lot. They're killing that Vikings team from two years ago, man, that, you know, it had a really good record, but you start looking at it and it's a bunch of one score wins, man. Look, I think they look at the games that they've had, Joe Mixon in this season, though, dude, they're a completely different team when he plays like, I completely undersold how good Mixon was going to be for this team like he's been running very hard. He's a violent runner, dude.
00:48:25
Speaker
I'm going to Houston. I just, I think this is one of the best teams in the NFL and it's going to show as the season goes on. Green Bay is really good, but I just, it's going to be a great game and I'm glad we're getting a game like this in the 12 o'clock window. It's going to be a lot of fun. Um, but I think the Packers just find a way to edge them out.
00:48:43
Speaker
All right, Eagles and Giants in New York. I think the Eagles get the win, man. I don't love the way the Eagles have played so far, but I still think they're good enough to go into New York and beat the Giants. Dude, Nick Sirianni at the end of that game yesterday. Did I see him yelling at the home fans or something like that? Yeah, not good, man.
00:49:01
Speaker
Not if they, if they, if they, I think they need to win a playoff game for him to keep his job. I don't even think making the playoffs is good enough this year. I think they need to at least win a playoff game for him to him to keep his job. His, his coordinators were the reason that team looks so good. Having Ganon and um, um, Steichen were the reason that team made the super bowl that year. Yeah. Yeah. That this is not a good team in Nick Syria. Well, they're a good team. Nick Syria has a terrible head coach though.
00:49:29
Speaker
You can call me crazy. You know what? I don't hate if it doesn't flame it out with Philly this I swear to God if you say Josh McDaniels, I'm want now No, if it doesn't up flame it out nixer Eddie gets kid they bring Doug back
00:49:45
Speaker
this season. I feel like it's still, dude, it's still a Superbowl ready roster, dude. Like it's a loaded roster. I think there's still a ton of goodwill for the Eagles fans and Doug Peterson. I think they pulled the plug a little too soon on Doug Peterson, man. Bring him back to Philly, dude. Why not?
00:50:02
Speaker
No, the coach, they, it's going to be Bella check is going to be the Eagles head coach, dude. I think he's going to the jets, dude. I think that he's going to fulfill his destiny. And finally coach, it's going to be the Eagles, dude, him and Howie Roseman can make some magic together. That'd be cool, dude. I mean, Bella tech would be awesome with this roster. I definitely know. I'd be down to see variable code would be cool too, man. Yeah, dude. The times variables had a good enough roster. He's done some serious damage.
00:50:27
Speaker
Um, but yeah, you know me, I'm all about the storyline stuff, dude. I'm still a pro wrestling fan at heart. And I just, I think that'd be a lot of fun seeing Doug Peterson come back. No, no. All right, dude. Awesome. Awesome game and lines and Vikings in Minnesota. I think I'm keeping the street going. Why the fuck not? Let's go Dan Campbell lines going in and get the wind, dude. I picked the Vikings to lose every week. Why not do it again this week, man?
00:50:50
Speaker
I think the line, if I'm the head coach, it's easy for me to get the team fired up. Like, yo, these guys think because they're undefeated, they're the best team in this division. We're going to show them who runs the NFC North. I think the line is going to handle their businessman and take care of the Vikings. This is going to be a tool, man.
00:51:10
Speaker
This should have been flexed at three o'clock. There's no way this game should be getting played at noon, dude. It's embarrassing that they're playing this game at noon. I'm going to try it as well. I feel like Minnesota was one of those teams that didn't really need a buy. Like I felt like they should have kept playing. Keep it rolling. Yeah. I'm with you, dude. You're totally right on the
00:51:29
Speaker
And the way Darnold played in the last game, that's not the game you want to lead into a buy with. And you're giving teams a whole other week to get more and more film breakdown on Darnold. You're right, dude. They didn't need to buy at that point. Yeah. So I'm going to trade as well.
00:51:45
Speaker
All right, sneaky, tough game for the Dirty Birds, man. Seahawks coming in, started off 3-0. They've lost three straight, but still been playing pretty tough. And I think they're starting to hit a little bit of desperation mode, dude. So we got a desperate Seattle team coming to Atlanta. If this wasn't a noon kickoff, man, I always fade the West Coast teams with the noon kickoffs because that basically means it's a 9am kickoff for them.
00:52:08
Speaker
Um, if it wasn't a noon kickoff, I'd give a lot more shots of the Seahawks. But I think being that early kickoff, we see the, uh, the dirty birds get to five and freaking two, dude. How good does that feel, man? Having Atlanta at five and two after seven games. Yeah, dude. It feels really good. What I was about to say is, um,
00:52:26
Speaker
the Seahawks run defense is not good. And the Falcons kind of figured it out a little bit on offense as far as running the ball. Um, so yeah, I'm going to go Falcons as well. Hold on one second. I got to shut my door. The dog's freaking out right now. Well, it sounds like he's wanting to chime in, dude. I think he's talking about the Seahawks nickel defense on third downs, dude. Oh yeah. He's really, he's really getting after it. Hold on one second.
00:52:50
Speaker
Yeah, it is great to see the Falcons winning man just makes for a better pod. You guys Jordan's energy is going to be way higher. He's going to be a better move. He's going to be more ready to talk about, you know, every other team that comes up, man. So hopefully the, uh, hopefully the dirty birds can keep it rolling. Yeah. You back, dude. Yep. I'm back. All right. I was telling all the listeners how much better it's going to be for the overall quality of the pod Falcons having a winning season.
00:53:14
Speaker
Like I, like I said earlier, it just, it feels like the Falcons look as is just different this season. And yeah, I mean, like I said, if they figured this out on offense and they actually realize, Hey, we can run the ball and just control the clock and just eat up the other team's defense. Like who knows what can happen with this team.
00:53:33
Speaker
All right, we got the Bengals heading to Cleveland for the Battle of Ohio. Don't look now, man. The Bengals win. They're 3 and 4. They win the week after that. They get to 4 and 4. Dude, they're going to be right back in. It's the same story we've seen the last few years, man, starting to play out once again.
00:53:49
Speaker
The problem is, is they never beat the Browns is the biggest problem, even as bad as this Browns team is. I don't know about you, but I didn't exactly like get like some fuzzy feelings about the Bengals after that game. Yeah. Less than inspiring man, but they got, they got the Browns. Yeah. Then they got the Eagles. Miles Garrett against a third string left tackle does not exactly, uh, bring inspiring vibes though. So you picking the Browns to win this? I'm going Browns. Wow. See, I think the Bengals win and they got the Eagles.
00:54:19
Speaker
coming to town next week and the Raiders coming to town the week after that.
00:54:24
Speaker
that potentially puts them at five and four, heading to a rematch with the, uh, excuse me, with the Ravens. And we know they gave the Ravens everything they could handle a couple of weeks ago. I mean, if the giants had a kicker last night, they probably win that game. Like, yeah, maybe I just, I, since today's offense, like dreadful last night, their offensive line just got destroyed by a bad giants team. And Thibodeau wasn't even playing. I mean, Brian Burns can absolutely wreck your game plan, but
00:54:50
Speaker
still the giants are not a good team and they made the built bangles look pretty fucking bad last night. All right. We got Miami with no two heading into indie. I think we're going to see Indianapolis be solidify themselves as the worst four and three team in the history of the NFL.
00:55:08
Speaker
Yeah, it sounds like Richardson is going to play, which I'm not really sure if that's good news for the Colts or not. Flacco looked in control, dude. He was unspectacular. Like I said earlier, they ended up with five yards, you know, five yards per pass for the game, which that's not beating anybody. But just aside from the numbers, he looked calm and in control out there, man. I just think
00:55:27
Speaker
He's, you know, he's been in the league 17 years at this point, dude. He's a made man. I think he's just got to, we saw it last year with the Browns. I think he's got total confidence back there cause he's not sweating if he has a bad throw or a bad quarter, even a bad game. Cause his track record speaks for himself at this point. He can go out there and just play football with no expectations, no pressure. Yeah, agreed.
00:55:46
Speaker
All right. Panthers and commanders in DC. I think we see, I think the Panthers are catching an angry Washington team coming off that hard fought loss against the Ravens. I think we see them absolutely put on a show, man. I think this one's over by about halfway through the second quarter. Yeah, this is.
00:56:02
Speaker
Not good. Dude. One thing I noticed about watching the Panthers play too, is I really am starting to feel bad for Bryce Young. Just like watching him watch Andy Dalton and Sanchez is like ripping on him at the end of the game. He's like, you know what? He just needs to learn how to learn from a real professional as Andy Dalton's throwing his second pick in like five minutes.
00:56:22
Speaker
And the Falcons return to the five and the guy just slides down. Who the fuck is Mark Sanchez to give anybody advice to? I love Mark Sanchez too, man. I always liked Mark Sanchez. If you listen to him during call a game, Mark Sanchez is the worst fucking commentator in the NFL. He had two good seasons where he had absolutely world-class defenses backing him up, man. He also had the butt fumble. So anything he did that was quality is completely relegated from that.
00:56:52
Speaker
All right, we got another toilet bowl contender, the Raiders against the Rams. I think the most exciting thing about this one is going to be all the fights that break out in the stands at this game, which is definitely going to happen. I mean, I think the Rams are the better team, but this one's just between the injuries and everything else of both these teams. It's a coin flip, dude. I'll go Rams just because I'm at Stafford, but I did.
00:57:15
Speaker
They could just simulate this one on Madden. I don't think anybody would sweat it. I actually save a lot of trouble. Rams coming off a bike here. And William's got an extra week. I rest like, dude, they're just going to hammer the ball against the Raiders. That team is bad. Aidan O'Connell is fucking miserable. I don't. I Gardner mentioned is not good, but dude, how did Gardner mention lose his job? Aidan O'Connell. That dude is a miserable that their defense gave up 30 points to the Steelers. They can't even score.
00:57:44
Speaker
Yeah, it's bad. It's really bad. The Raiders are the best. They really messed up hiring Antonio Pierce. Yeah, I'm going Rams as well.
00:57:53
Speaker
All right, I know this game probably looked a lot more attractive, at least records wise in the preseason, but I still think it's gonna be a pretty entertaining game, man. We got the Chiefs heading to San Francisco for a rematch with the 49ers, dude. Niners are actually installed as a one and a half point favorite with Vegas. I do think the Niners are much better than that three and three record shows, but they seem a lot shakier than they've been the last two or three years, man. A ton of injuries so far too, but ton of injuries and then what has been on the field has been quite as good.
00:58:23
Speaker
Dude, I think it's a coin toss, man. And in that situation, I think Patrick Mahomes finds a way to get it done once again, man. I think we see the Chiefs squeak one by. I think it's going to be a super close game. It's going to come down to the wire. I like that Super Bowl, man. But dude, the same way that I pick against the Vikings every week, I think I'm picking the Chiefs every week until they lose. Yeah, I'm going Chiefs as well.
00:58:45
Speaker
San Francisco is just such a weird team, man. I just I mean, we really don't even know what they are this year, dude. Again, we don't know if Christian McCaffrey is not playing. He's not playing. There's no way he has arthritis in his goddamn Achilles, like in both legs. Dude, I'm telling you, at the end of the season, if they really knew how badly he was hurt, and they never said a word about it, that they have to face some sort of punishment at the end of the season, dude, that's embarrassingly bad for an NFL team to do that.
00:59:16
Speaker
You know what I think about, dude? Have you ever seen any of the big personality pieces on him where it's shown how hard Ed McCaffrey was on them in high school? Yeah.
00:59:28
Speaker
Yeah, doing all the extra practice they would do at home and stuff to get rep. Dude, that's got to translate to extra miles on those knees and ankles, right? Yeah, 100%. Yeah, I don't know, man. It's crazy that we're seeing this guy possibly going up in smoke, right, as he should be hitting the prime of his career.
00:59:47
Speaker
I mean, without him though, the Niners have been solid, man. I think Christian McCaffrey, he does a lot of stuff that you don't see in the numbers just by keeping a defense back on their heels and off balance. Even if Jordan Mason's putting up similar yardage, it's just not the same as Christian McCaffrey being out there. Niners are still a tough team, but like I said, I don't think they're strong enough this year to get in there and blow out the Chiefs. I think they keep it close.
01:00:13
Speaker
Dude, you're just not going to win close games against this Chiefs team, man. They're too freaking clutch. Yeah, I agree.
01:00:18
Speaker
All right. Sunday night, I've got Aaron Rogers in the jets, heading to Pittsburgh. Um, Pittsburgh's offense is so hit or miss that they could lose any game, but their defense is still bad-ass. I, I can't stand Aaron Rogers. I love nothing more than CTJ wanting that defense. Just punish Rogers day and just put him in hell for four quarters. Uh, I hope, I hope the Steelers win and I'm picking the Steelers to win this one. I'm going to Steelers as well, but I'm going to be honest with you. I don't feel good about either one of these teams. I still don't think the Steelers are very good. Like,
01:00:47
Speaker
I don't do their offense is just just offense isn't good. I think they are a good football team though, dude. I think the Steelers are good. I think again, I've said it before. I didn't think they are not a team you want to see in the playoffs, man. No, you definitely don't. But yeah, Justin Fields could still get hot, dude. If Justin Fields gets hot, he could absolutely shrimp. To me, he's like the like
01:01:08
Speaker
the bad version of Michael Vick from maybe like the 2005, 2006 seasons where yeah, most weeks he's probably going to end up fucking you over with turnovers and stupid fumbles. But when he's on, he gives you a puncher's chance against any team. Yeah. Did you just see that the jet scored a touchdown? They had went 25 consecutive possessions that started in their own territory without scoring a touchdown and they just scored a touchdown. I'm telling you, dude, the vibes around Robert Sala were not good.
01:01:34
Speaker
Robbersaw, Robbersaw is just punching the air right now, dude. Oh yeah, he's pissed. All right. We got a double header for Monday. So who's your favorite pick? Did you pick Steelers or Jets? I picked Steelers. OK. We got a double header for Monday night. This is a fun one, dude. The Bucks hosting the Ravens, man, in Tampa, dude. Like, dude, that's going to be a fired up Tampa Bay crowd, man. Ravens are tough, dude.
01:01:58
Speaker
I think the Bucks win, man. I'm going to Bucks, dude. I think they find a way to get it done, man. Okay, I'm glad you're going Bucks because I'm going Ravens. Bucks defense has got a lot of injuries and I think Baltimore is just going to expose their defense. Watching what Rattler did yesterday to that defense, not good, dude.
01:02:22
Speaker
If the Saints defense wasn't as miserable as they are right now, they probably win that game. But the Saints defense is so fucking bad right now. I don't. Yeah. I don't know. I just don't think Tampa Bay is better than Baltimore. So I'm going to go. It's a straight up vibes pick for me, man. If this game was happening on Sunday afternoon, I probably picked the Ravens, but I'm just thinking Monday night in Tampa. I think they're going to have that place rocking.
01:02:44
Speaker
And they find a way to make some magic happen, dude. Baltimore is definitely the better team. I just think we get a little Monday Night Magic from Baker and the Bucks. And then lastly, dude, it couldn't be as exciting as the Bucks and Ravens looks. This couldn't be less exciting. Chargers and Cardinals in Arizona. Good Lord. I want to believe in Kyler, dude. I really love Kyler. I still stand by. If he would have got drafted by a different team, he could be one of the top five stars in the NFL right now.
01:03:14
Speaker
I think the Chargers get it done though, dude. Did you see this about Harbaugh having a heart issue and have to like leave the game early? Yeah, it was like, I can't remember what they called it, but they're 2-0 in game three as issues with whatever the hard thing is. Yeah, it's not good, dude. That is not good as an NFL head coach to have heart issues already. Yeah. I'm with you, dude. I want Arizona to be good, but God damn, and now Harrison's in concussion protocol.
01:03:41
Speaker
Kyler's at eight touchdowns, thrown to two interceptions so far this year. He's playing good football. He's not making mistakes. That's the thing that always... He says no support whatsoever, dude. Yeah, I'm going Chargers as well. Same. All right, let's hit million dollar bets.
01:04:10
Speaker
All right, I told y'all a couple weeks back, it was comeback season and the prophecy has began to fulfill. I've won three consecutive bets ever since I bottomed out with that $200,000 Moneyline bet on the Niners. It's been nothing but winners for me, man. And Jordan still continues his losing streak. All right, so to recap last week, my first bet.
01:04:31
Speaker
I did the emotional hedge. I knew I was going to be going to the game, rooting hard for the Titans. So I went ahead and picked the Colts to win, plus the under, which was under 41 and a half. Both those hit. I bet 25,000 to win 89,500. That brought me up to 965,837 for
Football Betting Strategies
01:04:49
Speaker
the year. And then my second one, I went with Jordan's team. I picked the Falcons to beat the spread, put 55,000 to 104,107. So I'm back to a million, 69,
01:04:59
Speaker
at $1,069,944. Whereas Jordan, he lost his 14 parlay with the commanders, Cardinals, Broncos, Steelers, that was 10,000 lost. And then he lost 20,000 on a big touchdown parlay. So he's down to
01:05:15
Speaker
1,291,000. So I've closed the gap. I was down. I got fucked on that touchdown for late to Vegas called that in. I'm not kidding. I had Jordan Mason over 77 yards in that game. He gets 74 and doesn't come back in. And then I had him as an anytime touchdown on everything.
01:05:33
Speaker
and he gets nothing and he had his helmet on the entire second half and they never put him back in. I got fucked on that because I was a cooker of a touchdown parlay is Derek Henry, DeAndre Swift, and Jordan Mason. That should have hit. I'm convinced the NFL is rigged, dude.
01:05:48
Speaker
You know, I've always been one of Kyle Shanahan's most loyal supporters, man. I put it, I hit him on the beeper, man, halfway through the first quarter. I was like, Mason can't score, man. Mason can't score. He said, I got you, buddy. All right. So yeah, but Jordan was up about 550,000. I've narrowed that lead down to 130,000 now. I'll go my first bet, man. I saw everything I needed to see from the Titans on Sunday. I'm throwing $250,000 down on the Bill's money line.
01:06:16
Speaker
250,000 down to win 300,000. Here we go. We know how well that strategy worked out last time when I picked the Niners to beat the Cardinals. But I think it's a lock this time. The fucking cat's ass. You had to throw in the fucking lock thing at the end. Jesus Christ.
01:06:33
Speaker
All right, I'll do my first one. I'm going to do a Moneyline Parlay. I'm going to go Bills, Eagles, Rams, Commanders, all Moneyline. $50,000 would net $164,869.
01:06:47
Speaker
All right. My second bet. I'm picking the chiefs to cover the spread against the, no, it's chief's money line against the Niners. That's simple 25,000 to win 50,000. It says bets are such, so they're just pussy bets. Like he's just, he's coming back. No, no, no, no, no, no. We're not doing that. Like it's just,
01:07:06
Speaker
he just is so like gun shy to actually be a man and put in an actual bet like he just wants to do all money line he's scared of points he's just scared of everything i just want to beat you dude that's all i want to do yeah well a lot of people want to do a lot of things but we'll see how that works out for you but all i need is one good week and you're in the dust
01:07:26
Speaker
All right. Uh, my second one, I'm going to go and overs parlay. I'm going to do over 49 and a half in the lions Vikings game over 47 and a half in the Texans Packers game and over 50 and a half in the Falcon Seahawks game. I'm going to put 25,000 down for 173,989. Yeah. So the risk reward is definitely not there for me, dude. So if I
01:07:50
Speaker
If I hit on my, if we both hit all of our bets, I will gain about 20,000 bucks on you, man, for the lead. If we both lose all our bets, you're gonna be like an additional 250,000 ahead of me, dude. So you may be onto something, man. You ready to get into some listener mail? Yeah, let's do it.
Listener Questions & Predictions
01:08:08
Speaker
All right, so first up, we got from our number one fan, James Maudsley. He wants to know, is anyone playing better football than the Detroit Lions right now?
01:08:20
Speaker
Um, I mean, dude, the chiefs and the Vikings are still undefeated. So it's kind of hard to say, is anybody playing better football when they're still two undefeated teams left? Like this is kind of like when you texted us and said, man, look out for the upset on Saturday while the team favored. Like I don't, I mean, yeah, Detroit's playing really well, but I mean, you could also list off the Ravens are playing really well. They have the same record as the Ravens, the Packers, like,
01:08:48
Speaker
No, I think the Ravens and the two most impressive to me, man. But I think, yeah, you still gotta go Vikings though. And the Vikings achieved until they lose. Yeah. I mean, they're both undefeated. So it's hard for me not to say those are the two most impressive teams.
01:09:01
Speaker
All right, he did hit us with an actual upset special. He's picking Georgia Tech to beat Notre Dame. Games in Atlanta. This is five and two unranked Georgia Techs against five and one ranked Notre Dame. Notre Dame is an 11 point favorite. I mean, it's possible, but I don't know if I would really see much happening with that one. Yeah. Let me look at Georgia Tech's schedule so far, dude. They beat Florida State week one in a game that everybody thought Florida State was good, which clearly they're not.
01:09:32
Speaker
Yeah, let's see, they beat Fort Estate, beat Georgia State, lost to Syracuse, beat VMI, lost to Louisville, beat Duke, beat North Carolina. Yeah, I'm not seeing much here to put up. I mean, I don't think Notre Dame's great. I think Notre Dame could lose any game they go out and play, but I'm not seeing much in this one. We'll see if James is right though, man. Maybe he's onto something. Maybe. All right, let's get on to our questions from Facebook.
01:10:01
Speaker
All right, first up, Johnny GB says, did Drake May's performance today give the Pats hope for the future? Our offensive line sucked so bad, but he did well. Yeah, I think Drake May looked exactly like we thought he'd do. He has almost no help for that supporting cast. And he hung tough. He looked confident. I think you guys got a winner, man. As long as he doesn't get broken by all the suckiness over the next one or two seasons, man, I think he's definitely a guy that you can win with in the NFL. Yeah, dude.
01:10:31
Speaker
this guy is, uh, he's, he's the truth. He looked really good yesterday against a really good team. Like we said, there's just nothing there around him. Um, but yeah, I think that he's going to be a really good quarterback in the NFL. All right. Mike Rivera says, did you know Brock birdie was the last pick in the draft? Had no idea.
01:10:50
Speaker
Yeah. Shout out to Mike holding it down there in Tampa. Glad to see him and the family made it through. Yeah. OK. Sam Rosenthal. I got to kick this one. He says, why can defensive coaches never be successful? Why can defensive coordinators never be successful head coaches? Sam, I got to be honest with you, man. Have you ever heard of a little guy by the name of William Belichick?
01:11:09
Speaker
Yeah. I was like, Oh, wait, what? I mean, Bill Parcells, like, yeah, I don't, yeah. I don't understand that one. Cause like, as much as I rip on him, Dan Quinn was pretty successful with the Falcons also. And like John Harbaugh is, is a speck. He has a special teams background, but he's also a pretty defensive head coach. And like last I checked that team's pretty good. I get it. Yeah.
01:11:33
Speaker
I didn't get this one. Now granted the league is slanted way more in favor of the offenses. So that's part of it. Um, and I feel like a lot of these defensive coaches that get hired, go to teams with awful defenses and everybody just expects them to turn it around year one, which not usually going to happen. Um,
01:11:50
Speaker
Yeah, I don't get that one. Yeah. And to be honest, in defense of Sam, dude, I think you're right, man. It seems like the last 10 or 15 years, the majority of defensive coaches have struggled. It seems like the, you really want to go for an offensive coach. It's also the play caller, dude. That seems to be the ticket here lately in the NFL, man, with the couch and a hand.
01:12:10
Speaker
Andy Reed, Sean McVay, you want somebody that's not just an offensive coach, they're also the one actually dialing up the plays, man. It seems to be the best combination to ensure success.
Youth Sports: Weight Cutting Discussion
01:12:19
Speaker
Also, D'Amico Ryan seems to be a pretty good head coach so far. I mean, jury's still on if it continues, but he seems pretty good so far. Yeah, like I said, if you just told me I was handing the keys to an NFL team and I had to pick if I'm going to hire an offensive or defensive guy first, I'm probably going to offense, but I still think you could totally win with a defensive coach.
01:12:40
Speaker
And yeah, I think Jordan made a good point for the reason why they aren't successful is a lot of times You see defensive coaches going to teams that have absolutely god-awful defenses and it's just an impossible Situation to get it turned around so you end up with like a middle of the pack defense and probably a shitty offense And that's why it doesn't pan out man. Yeah last question. This was totally unrelated Jason Canick says thoughts on cutting weight in youth wrestling. I Would have no advice there at all
01:13:05
Speaker
Yeah, the complete outsider, I have no experience in amateur wrestling. I would say from a complete outsider's view, man, it seems counterproductive for kids. I don't know what age we're talking about, dude. If you're talking about varsity level high school, maybe at that point I could start entertaining it. But I would hope that we're not having 10, 11, 12, 13-year-olds going to extreme measures to make a weight class for amateur wrestling, man.
01:13:32
Speaker
Yeah, I have nothing to add to this. I just, I don't know enough about it to have an opinion on it.
01:13:39
Speaker
Yeah, to me for weight classes, 205 pounds and below is cruiser weight. Everything above that's heavyweight. That's the weight classes for wrestling that I'm familiar with. Good Lord. All right, Jordan, his was some closing thoughts,
Conclusion & Season Enjoyment
01:13:49
Speaker
man. And we'll get out of here for our week seven episode of the goal. Just enjoy your football guys. It goes quick. And like I said, at the beginning of the show, halfway through college, regular season and over a third of the way through NFL season. So yeah, just enjoy the football while we got it.
01:14:24
Speaker
mountains I saw a captain fell And his money he was counting I first produced my pistol I then produced my rapier I said stand down to him
