The Garage Avenger Returns
00:00:03
Speaker
This is the Garage Avenger Podcast.
00:00:15
Speaker
We are back! Back! We're back! It's only been like five, six weeks or something. I don't know. It feels like forever. I'm like, we did a podcast?
00:00:26
Speaker
did Did we used to do a podcast? I think we used to do a podcast, Kieran. It was called the Garage Avenger podcast. Every week we did it until summer came. Yeah, and then we just gave up.
00:00:40
Speaker
ah Typical Norwegian story, are you really. yeah well Well, I was going to say, i mean, maybe some people forgot who we were, so maybe I should introduce
Introductions and Hobbies
00:00:50
Speaker
myself. Hi, I'm Justin.
00:00:52
Speaker
I'm trying to share the joy of building my non-street legal death machines in my garage in the hope of one day making a living out of it. Oh, hi, Justin. Yeah. And I'm Kieran.
00:01:06
Speaker
and the i'm trying ah can't even get my words out. Trying to turn my garage brewed beer into a world-renowned debauchery, Justin. has written
00:01:20
Speaker
It is a bit of debauchery, that's for sure. Yeah, we're twin brothers with a passion for creating the wild and unexpected. And we try every week, except for when we're on holidays, apparently, to take you through an everyday life of what goes on in our garages.
00:01:37
Speaker
And to be honest... So much has been happening. It's insane. In some ways, I wish we had been doing the podcast because then everyone wouldn't be like just completely bored after six and a half hours of explaining what's happening in our characters.
00:01:55
Speaker
Well, let's try and condense this. let's yeah Should we just crack on with it? Let's crack on. ah Talk about cracking on, Kieran.
00:02:05
Speaker
Ooh, that makes a nice sound. Hold on.
00:02:11
Speaker
and That was mine. didn't I felt like yours sounded better. What's yours, Kieran? Do
Kieran's Coconut IPA Story
00:02:16
Speaker
tell. ah This is the Coconut IPA that I brewed. That was good.
00:02:24
Speaker
i um Tell them about it, Kieran. Well, i have there's a backstory, actually, because I i bought a bunch of beer from Guloting and ah to so One, to have different beer every week.
00:02:40
Speaker
Two, support Gulating. And give a shout out to Gulating. Because, I mean, they need our support. Craft beer needs our support. So, I bought all this beer. And then we didn't have the podcast for like six weeks. So, I drank it all.
00:02:53
Speaker
Yeah. Damn straight. So I'm on back to the homebrew, the test brews here. And this is the ah the coconut IPA that I'd been talking about for some time.
00:03:09
Speaker
and Remind the audience because they've obviously forgotten. ah Basically, I decided, why why is there like ah IPAs with all sons of fruit, but no one's put any coconut in it?
00:03:20
Speaker
so I was like, well, why don't just filter it so through some coconut? So I did that. And um this is the result. It
00:03:32
Speaker
tastes deliciously fruity and coconutty. It's exactly what you imagine a hazy... fruity coconut IPA to taste like.
00:03:46
Speaker
I tried it. It was great. I really, I think it'd be interesting to see what people think of it. Yeah. Yep. i a Now this is sat in a can for a while.
00:03:58
Speaker
And um to be honest, it's a little bit oxidized. i like It's got that cardboard aftertaste. I'm like, oh no. But you know what? The first taste is delicious. Yeah.
00:04:11
Speaker
Okay, so that's interesting, right? That's just a technical way hitch there. so Is that in the canning or is that in the fact that you added the coconut and hop? hoyquit with the food It could have been both. So there you go.
Justin's Forced Holiday and Toyota Opportunity
00:04:28
Speaker
So, Justin, I feel like you've got a lot to catch us up on. what is the You released a video since we last did the podcast? Two videos.
00:04:39
Speaker
Yeah, shit. Far out.
00:04:43
Speaker
two You released two videos since the last podcast. There's a fuck done that's been happening in the in the garage. There was a nail-biting finish on the last video that needs to be explained to the people here.
00:04:57
Speaker
yeah and For those of you have not seen the last video, stop what you're doing yeah and yeah right now. Stop it. Go and watch the video. 27 hours. Yeah.
00:05:07
Speaker
twenty seven hours it' not twenty seven hours twenty six no twenty four minutes It's 24 minutes.
00:05:16
Speaker
24 minutes, just crack on with it, and and there's there's a bombshell somewhere in there. I won't say it's at the end, um but you pretty much did by just saying I won't say it's at the end.
00:05:29
Speaker
LAUGHTER ah So now my analytics are going to be screwed, Kieran, because everyone's just going to jump straight to the โ No. They don't need to do that anyway. Yeah, yeah. Did we go from seven to eight? Wow.
00:05:43
Speaker
Amazing. Yeah, we're going places. Only upwards from here. Yep. So, ah yeah. What else has been happening?
00:05:54
Speaker
Well, let's I've been on holiday. I had to take a forced holiday. Yeah, right. I was not happy about it, to be honest. Terrible wife yours. I know.
00:06:05
Speaker
Why would she force me to go on a holiday? I just, yeah. Doesn't make sense. ah The real reason why I was feeling, I wanted to get this car finished. I've got holidays or it's summer holidays.
00:06:19
Speaker
you know I'm not working as much with the day job. you know And I just wanted to focus on doing the car, right? Finishing this world rally car.
00:06:30
Speaker
And and yeah know Kristen sort of said, hey, like I'm sorry, but you have to have to go on holiday. the um So we went to the north of Norway.
00:06:45
Speaker
that Yeah. Right to the top, to Nor Cup. just as Just a small sojourn. Yeah, it was only about five and a half, yeah, five and a half thousand kilometers. It's just a small drive. And we road tripped it all the way up. We stopped in bunch of different places. Sometimes we only drove like an hour to two hours and we just stopped and camped.
00:07:12
Speaker
and the And we slowly got up the top there. and And when we got to the the top of Norway there in Norrkopp, it was foggy and cold and shit weather. And was perfect. so That's how it should be.
00:07:30
Speaker
Welcome to Norway. Yeah. So... I think the biggest takeaway I got from it though was ah one, the beauty of this country that we live in.
00:07:41
Speaker
It's amazing. And two, getting out of your comfort zone and going and to talk with complete strangers.
00:07:52
Speaker
I made a very concerted effort on this trip to like, we were doing the washing up in the the communal you know kitchen, like to start talking with people. and and Don't be so Norwegian. Be inquisitive and and talkative.
00:08:07
Speaker
So I got to know a bunch of people. you know Some people, you just talk to them for 10 minutes and then you never see them again. there um But you know the kids were sort of stuck on their phones and I was getting really annoyed with it. so i So I said to them, right, no phones.
00:08:24
Speaker
You got to go out and find some kids to play with. and you know The truth is they don't know how to do that. No. So i had to be the example and go talk with some parents to kind of make it happen.
00:08:39
Speaker
It just happened to be, and when I was saying this, we pulled into a camping spot and there was ah another family like on the other side of the the road from us.
00:08:50
Speaker
and you know They had a dog so and we had our dog with us. and and So I just went over there and talked dog for you know five minutes, explained what who we were and I've got kids similar age to their kids and and then all of a sudden they were playing together and we we met them two, no, three times along the way and the kids had an absolute ball. Was it like a National Lampoon style thing where like ever seen I think you need to explain what you're thinking your regards to national. Oh, like you keep bumping into them and there's either a love-hate relationship where one is like and where maybe Henry's in love with the with the girl or or or whatever and then everyone else hates the family.
00:09:40
Speaker
No, I think it was very mutual. Everyone really enjoyed each other's company. And, you know, they were Austrian. Yeah, nice. So, really lovely. Everyone had to speak English because, you know, we don't speak German.
00:09:54
Speaker
And I had some really interesting conversations with them as well. ah The mother, but she was a flutist. Ooh, a flutist.
00:10:05
Speaker
Is that what you'd say? Yeah, maybe. and then A flautist. o And and the the dad was a painter, right? and so we We got to know them so well that we just sort of invited them just to our house when we got back. So, like, if on your way through...
00:10:25
Speaker
back home, like, make sure you stop in with us. And they did. The kids had a great time. We showed them around our little area and had dinner and and shared some Norwegian traditions with food and things. And they shared some Austrian traditions with food. It was really lovely.
00:10:40
Speaker
So I think that was the highlight of our trip. ah Actually, no, I take that back. That was not the highlight. Tell me, what was the highlight, Justin?
00:10:52
Speaker
ah We were in Ulta, which is pretty high up there. Yeah. and We were just leaving Ulta, and I get this message on my phone through WhatsApp.
00:11:04
Speaker
you ah And it says, I'll get it out now and actually read It says,
00:11:18
Speaker
Hi, Justin. I'm Hans, head of marketing for the Toyota Gazoo Racing World Rally team. When time permits, can you please give me a call?
00:11:30
Speaker
Okay. was like, holy... I think I even said it to Kristen's dad who was driving at the time. was like, I think I said, holy shit, I can't... Like, what the fuck? or just and So that was the coolest experience ever.
00:11:49
Speaker
to sort of get that message because he'd also tried to ring, but I was busy and and i I didn't, and it was a strange number and I decided not to answer it. And then I get this message through on WhatsApp and then, yeah. Yeah.
00:12:04
Speaker
So, i mean, we had this conversation and the conversation, like i don't even know if I want to discuss all of it on this podcast because some of the things were just so crazy.
00:12:18
Speaker
And the other thing is that this guy sounded like Gunther from the Huss Formula One team. Yeah. If anyone has seen Drive to Survive? And he was so in, but he was so enthusiastic.
00:12:32
Speaker
So he was like, ah he would i can't even do his voice justice, but he would would say like, Justin, this is going to be fucking great. This is going be fucking great, Justin. We're going to take your car and we're going to, I got to put it on a plane. We fly it over to Japan.
00:12:48
Speaker
They fly you over to Japan and and the Japanese, they're going to go fucking bananas. ah as It was a really great conversation with him. And as I alluded there, he had suggestions about taking this world rally. car that I'm building, it's just still not finished, yeah to Japan.
00:13:14
Speaker
e And you know also threw out ideas with regards to Monte Carlo ah next year and a whole bunch of other crazy things.
00:13:29
Speaker
I've had to like give myself a bit of a slapping. Holy crap. This is crazy. This is crazy. This is happening. That's so awesome. yeah you know so We still do not know exactly what they are thinking and what will be confirmed, but it's looking pretty good for something.
00:13:52
Speaker
you so I feel really, really positive, which basically means โ
00:13:59
Speaker
Somehow going get massive exposure of this car in front of a rally audience, which is one, really cool. Two, scary as hell.
00:14:10
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. Because they're gonna like, hey, they're just gonna be like all those bad commenters on my video. Like, it doesn't have suspension and four-wheel drive. That's not a real rally car.
00:14:22
Speaker
Yeah. right That's pretty much gonna be the whole audience there. but Yeah, yeah. The truth is, you know this wouldn't have happened if i didn't you if I didn't meet this guy called Ralph.
Connections with Toyota Gazoo Racing
00:14:38
Speaker
Is it Ralph that's going to put this in motion? No, but through Ralph this happened. Okay. So to tell the story, many years ago, I'd say nearly 12 years ago Yeah, easily.
00:14:56
Speaker
I was going to go to Raleigh, Finland, and i was I bought a bunch of tickets for some friends. Were you there the first year? I can't remember. I didn't go to Raleigh, Finland.
00:15:07
Speaker
So not Finland, Sweden. ah throughou Sweden, yeah, I was there the first year. year Yeah, so this is where Rolf was introduced, right? We had never met this guy. I literally put out a Facebook post saying, hey, I've got a spare ticket and accommodation for anyone that wants to come with us.
00:15:26
Speaker
Do you know anybody? Please send it out to your rally enthusiastic friends, right? Right, yeah. And... There comes Rolf back, right? Oh, yeah, great. I'll come with you guys. I'm thinking, yeah, all right, fair enough. This is Rolf guy.
00:15:41
Speaker
don't know who he is, but I'm sure he's cool. He was the most outlandish guy with' you know I've ever probably spent time with. He is pretty wild. He is pretty wild, and it was so much fun. And like to go from โ not knowing somebody to spending a whole weekend with them.
00:16:04
Speaker
If you can imagine a Norwegian version of Will Farrell's character in old school, that's probably the closest, closest like representation you could you could have of Ralph. Yeah.
00:16:20
Speaker
So yeah long story short, we end up years later going to Spain together to see the rally down in Spain. Now, I booked the hire car, and then when we went to go pick up the hire car, they're like, well, we don't have your booking, so we don't have a car for you.
00:16:39
Speaker
Right. And we're crap. like if any anyway If you don't know anything about rally, you need a car to go spectate. You need to drive out to these stages, which can be sometimes 100, 150 kilometers away.
00:16:52
Speaker
a So like what are we going to do? And Rolf says, oh, you know we'll just go out and we'll go talk with some people, meet some people in the in the town. So on a Thursday night, We went and had dinner.
00:17:05
Speaker
We're just getting drunk and Rolf was going around meeting all these people. And because he's so outgoing, we end up meeting these Finnish guys and the and they they were pretty bad at English. So most of the time he was just saying, yari but did not for law And they were like, yeah And somehow that we were able to communicate to these guys that, you know, we...
00:17:33
Speaker
needed a car and we didn't have one. And they they said, well, you can drive with us. And so the next day, this tiny Opel Corsa comes with three big dudes in it. And then we, as me and Rolf, super big dudes as well, clamber into the back.
00:17:53
Speaker
And we end up having the most epic rally Spain ever. Lots of drinking, lots of fun, lots of everything. Yeah, it was great.
00:18:04
Speaker
And so I got to know these Finnish guys and they knew everybody. That's one thing we didn't know. They knew all the top drivers, they would come in and say hello when we're having dinner.
00:18:18
Speaker
You know, there was like there was just... We, in fact, had dinner with Yari Matti Lapvula's dad. like it like it was just so surreal so Fast forward to ah couple months ago, i take contact with one of these Finnish guys and ask him, like do you have any contacts at Toyota Gazoo Racing?
00:18:42
Speaker
And he's he eventually comes back and he says, yeah, I've got the team principals but email address for you. Here you go.
00:18:52
Speaker
And i was like, amazing. I shit myself. I wrote this giant email. I tried to write it the most like PR marketing way I could and sent it off.
00:19:06
Speaker
And I got an automatic reply. Of like out of office. I'm out of office. I'm on holidays. Yeah. Right. And weeks went by and then all of a sudden I get this phone call from Hunts, the head of marketing.
00:19:20
Speaker
Nice. Just like so cool. So I really had to, I actually rang Rolf and I said, thank you for being you, man.
00:19:34
Speaker
Because without his outgoingness and without me just leaning into it his craziness sometimes, you know ah we wouldn't have met these Finnish guys and this wouldn't have happened.
00:19:48
Speaker
you And as you everyone knows, it's not what you know, it's who you know. Yeah, right. And so I think you know this is a good example of this. And it was it's so exciting, but now it's super stressful because now I know that a bunch of people are going to be looking at my car,
00:20:08
Speaker
And critiquing it and looking at it and like being like, oh, I can see that you haven't done this or that. So there's a bit of pressure now to be able deliver. And, of course, I don't exactly know when they want it to like ready. So you know if they want it in Japan, yeah i have to have it ready before November.
00:20:34
Speaker
Yeah, okay, well. But it's not even that, like, that's very doable. You know, yeah it's August now. i can I think I can easily deliver before November, but... Again, there's all these little details now I'm starting think about. Like, oh, I was just going to throw some plexiglass in the windows.
00:20:51
Speaker
No, no, no, no. It'll look wrong if it's set too far in. So now i have to you know three d model this little bit of plastic that's going to hold the window in the right position.
00:21:03
Speaker
So it's it's all this small stuff that I've started like, oh, oh. So, Yeah. I mean, where else do i what else do I say about this week? You know, I've also put out two videos. Hmm.
00:21:17
Speaker
And the response has been ah fantastic generally. in I thought it would flop, but I think- Oh, really? i't i haven't paid attention to the numbers, but why don't you- I think the, I need to check, but I think the first video is around about 70,000.
Car Painting Plans and Challenges
00:21:37
Speaker
Okay. That's more than I expected for this kind project. Yeah, me too.
00:21:41
Speaker
It's actually 80,000, 81,000. There you Wow, cool. Yeah. there go wow cool yeah And everyone's like there's a bunch of people upset because it's not a real rally car. It doesn't have four-wheel drive and it doesn't have suspension and this and that and then blah, blah, blah. But it's so great because you need those. Those comments drive the traffic.
00:22:02
Speaker
100%. Yeah. yeah But what was super interesting is the second video โ did really well in the beginning and now it's slowed down and it just showed me ah it showed me that a lot of subscribers are really interested in the build and they want to know what's sort of happening with it so you know that that was really cool so i'm kind of where am i at with this project so everyone is not really paying attention to this i'm at the point of painting the body now
00:22:35
Speaker
Which is kind of a big milestone. Yeah. and I still have a little bit to go. like i So I've now sanded everything down to 240 grit.
00:22:46
Speaker
And then I'm going to put a layer of um spray putty on the whole car again. And then I'll sand that it again down with 240 400, depending on and the painter and what he wants.
00:23:06
Speaker
So there's still quite a bit of hours of work still to go on it, but the goal is to get it painted by this Thursday. That's awesome. Yeah. What color are you going to go for Well, I asked Toyota Gazoo Racing because you know if they want this as a promotional piece, maybe they want it to look how they want it to look, right?
00:23:29
Speaker
you ah Right now, the the rally cars are painted silver, right? Yeah, Which looks shit.
00:23:39
Speaker
So I've decided that I'm going to paint or I wanted to paint it the black, the 2024 color. Yeah. And i got a ah message back from Hans saying now that, yes, in Japan, they will be back to the black color and and the color will be black in 2026 as well.
00:24:01
Speaker
Yeah. So they're going back to that color. Uh, cause I think everyone likes it. Everyone thinks it's really cool. I think it's the coolest looking car in black. Um, and I don't think I'm alone in that. So that's basically what I'm doing. I'm cutting, um i'm going to do that paint work. So it's, it's actually like a matte black or like a semi, semi gloss matte black.
00:24:25
Speaker
Yeah. Um, and a silver roof.
00:24:30
Speaker
So there's two two colors. And then then I've got to work out how to do all the decals. Yeah, that's going to be a challenge. So hopefully with this can like Connect Through Toyota, they can just send me the vector files and I can just scale them.
00:24:47
Speaker
Yeah, that would be awesome. But again, you know I'm not sure if that's going to be able to happen. I may have to sit or employ somebody to sit on Illustrator and create these stickers.
00:25:03
Speaker
So we'll just see. We'll see. Wow. That's pretty massive. just It's so crazy. So cool.
00:25:14
Speaker
And I guess it just shows you like at the end of the day, like if you are passionate about something, you set your heart on it, like people stand up and take notice. I mean, yeah, you put you put it out there.
00:25:28
Speaker
and That's the thing I think that's important to notice as well. Like you you put it out there, you pushed a little bit. But like, I mean, how hard is an email to send?
00:25:39
Speaker
Yeah, it's not, I mean, it is hard. you got to say the right things. You can't sort of, yeah. Obviously, there's an art to it. But at the same time, you know, it's the passion that's driving what you're doing.
00:25:50
Speaker
100%. hundred percent Yeah. And I think it's awesome that starting to take a a year fucking awesome turn for the best.
00:26:05
Speaker
It's awesome. I mean, things are interesting because if you think about it, you know, on paper, this project doesn't make any sense. Like, I'm using a butt tin of money for a quite a niche-y sport, really.
00:26:21
Speaker
Rally's quite niche-y. And like, there's only a bunch of, you know, people that really enjoy it. um And, but the truth is I wanted to build it. I've always wanted to build something like this because I just think it would be cool.
00:26:37
Speaker
Right. Yeah. Right. And the other week, You know, i we glued together the four parts and we we put it over the body and we, you know, over the chassis, I should say.
00:26:49
Speaker
And we sat inside it. was so freaking cool, dude. Oh, it was just so cool. I saw the photos with this giant fucking grin on your face. It looked like you were... It was like so you just dropped a tab of acid and you were just at the moment where you're just like...
00:27:08
Speaker
Your eyes are wide. I was just like, you were so fucking happy.
00:27:16
Speaker
i think there's something like that but there's something completely different about... something you built that you can actually sit inside, right? And then you potentially drive.
00:27:27
Speaker
I was really getting to like connect with that idea when we finally put the body finished, like assembled onto the car. You really got an idea of like, wow, this is going to be amazing to drive.
00:27:40
Speaker
Or if the feeling of being inside this thing is going to be amazing. m So, yeah, i'm ah I'm just so excited to see what we can do with it. And ah the other crazy thing that I should, and i you know I've been asked by Toyota to quote for three more cars.
00:28:05
Speaker
oh Yeah, that that's a little bit of work. Jeez, I've spent the whole weekend just pulling my hair out. Like, how how do you quote these things? Like, I'd started adding up the numbers and then, like, it just gets it's gets to crazy numbers.
00:28:25
Speaker
Things that' like money I never, ever, ever would use to buy such a thing. Yeah, right.
00:28:36
Speaker
But then i can't underquote either because, like, i'm I'm not really charging a lot of money for my hourly rate, the comparison, but like the parts add up and then you've got all this other stuff going on. And so it adds up super quick.
00:28:55
Speaker
And, you know, the truth is you you' you've just got to, put the price out there and see what they say. So that's, that's also on my cards this week is to like give this crazy quote to them for three of these cars, knowing that I don't have the space to build three cars either.
00:29:15
Speaker
And I'll need a lot of help from some other people to, to be able to pull this off. So, you know, it's, it's crazy. So, Part of me wishes they they just say no.
00:29:29
Speaker
No, we won't do that. And then the other part of me wishes, yeah, they should do that. and then maybe more people start ordering. And then that becomes like I drop YouTube because this just becomes a thing.
00:29:42
Speaker
Yeah. That would be cool. Yeah.
00:29:49
Speaker
So, yeah. I mean โ
00:29:52
Speaker
I feel like I could go on forever and the excitement of this project is really what has, it's kind of come to like a real ah pinnacle now for me, like of realization that I can actually maybe pull this off.
00:30:09
Speaker
Yeah. You know, like if that's something that's crazy. Like you you have a lot of like doubts all the way through. But then you I have this way of thinking where i'm I have these doubts, but then I just don't listen to them.
00:30:28
Speaker
I'm like, I can pull this off. If someone else can pull this off, I can pull this off. Yeah, why not? And so I just have to listen to โ I just end up listening to that. Like i got this kind of mentality. Like I'll i'll pull this off. it's I've got it.
00:30:41
Speaker
And then, you know, look what's happening. Yeah, cool. I mean, I'm um just, I'm somehow i just seeing trip to Tokyo and just thinking, yeah, that'll be so fucking rad.
00:30:58
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. I mean, who knows, right? Yeah. Yeah. if If that happens, like that's pretty damn cool. Yeah, and I think, i mean, you never know what other doors open from these kinds of things too.
00:31:13
Speaker
No, you don't you don't know. So, yeah, really awesome. And even just being part of a circus so that the World Rally Championship is, right? Just being yeah part of that is just cool enough, right? Yeah, exactly, yeah.
00:31:27
Speaker
So awesome. What about you, Kieran? Oh, so much has been happening. Where do I start? um Okay, first, the Holy Ghost release.
00:31:39
Speaker
Holy Ghost was released the first week of August. um There was much drama around it, if people remember.
00:31:50
Speaker
um And it turned out pretty good. And ah the Wine Monopoly snapped up half the entire batch in the first week.
Kieran's New Beer Production
00:32:03
Speaker
So was pretty stoked about that, to be honest. um And now there's only about 500, 600 cans left. And, you know, it's just to churning away and it's going places. Like there was ah the the big a wine monopoly store on the West Coast bought two cases and that was gone in like a week.
00:32:28
Speaker
There you go. So I'm kind of surprised I haven't seen them reorder yet, but it might be a thick thing because people are on hold holidays or whatever. um But yeah, really cool. and So if you haven't tried the Holy Ghost yet and you're out there and you thought, ooh, chili beer, that sounds really interesting. I'd like to try that.
00:32:47
Speaker
and Go and talk to your local mine wine monopoly or you can โ check it out online and order a couple of cans for yourself and just get them delivered to your local wine monopoly.
00:33:01
Speaker
Um, so yeah, do that. That'll be an awesome support. I'm really happy with the beer and I think, um, it's a really good sign for the future. I'm stoked about that.
00:33:12
Speaker
So as a result, um, there's two new beers on the way. Woo. Um, so, I have bitten the bullet and I have moved my production over to Armundsen.
00:33:28
Speaker
I had a chat with the guys there and worked out a really good solution where like they have a big brew house. It's 4,000 liters. um They can do a half brew, which is 2,000 liters.
00:33:42
Speaker
Still, for me as a small operator, 2,000 liters of any one beer is a high risk, especially like fresh IPAs that need to be moved really quick. Yeah.
00:33:53
Speaker
And so I just, I was a bit worried about that. And then they're like, oh, we've got these two small thousand liter test tanks. Do you want to split the batch into that? And I was like, yeah, I could do that.
00:34:06
Speaker
And so i decided that I was just going to um take them, basically make the same base beer and on the hot side and then treat it differently in each tank.
00:34:17
Speaker
a Different dry hop, I can use different yeast, I can do like all this stuff and produce a completely different beer in the two different tanks. So that's what I've done.
00:34:30
Speaker
ah But the first round is basically a different dry hop on these beers. So it's the base for citra anointing.
00:34:41
Speaker
which is a single hop citra double IPA and the, um, the other beer. So that one's all citra, citra, citra, more fucking citra.
00:34:55
Speaker
And I dry hopped that on, what was it? Uh,
00:34:59
Speaker
Thursday and I kind of aroused the tank on Friday ah with some CO2 and ah kind of the CO2 blowing off the, out of the blow off valve on the tank far out.
00:35:14
Speaker
The aroma on this beer was in fucking credible. Fucking incredible. I was just like, holy shit. I really fucking hope the beer smells as good coming out of the tank.
00:35:28
Speaker
Cause like the aroma, like just the aroma inside the, the tank from the, you know the, what kind of when you, when it's under pressure, it blows off.
00:35:39
Speaker
Um, Some of the overpressure and and the some of the aroma goes with it, right? Of course. And it was just, wow. Fucking wow. It just, it smelled amazing.
00:35:52
Speaker
And so much like this kind of deep citrus, like sweet citrus. Oh, I just, I just even thinking about it makes me thirsty.
00:36:05
Speaker
yeah. and then And then I dry hop the other one, which is the same citra base with a combination of ah Eldorado and strata hops.
00:36:17
Speaker
And the result of that is... Basically a fruit salad. Like it's really fascinating because it tastes different. It just like, i mean, we're just talking about aroma additions.
00:36:29
Speaker
It's still the same amount of malts, still the same amount of hops on hot side of just Citra. And then you've got like, you just dry hopped it with, I dropped it with Strata, which is kind of known for this kind of dank tropical strawberry kind of thing going on.
00:36:47
Speaker
And then Eldorado, which is more of like a pear, tropical, kind of fruit-tingly kind of um flavor profile.
00:36:59
Speaker
And I kind of decided to put those two together, kind of balance each other out a little bit. And, ah man, it's... It's changed. Those two beers are light years apart.
00:37:12
Speaker
Same base. but it just like you know I've never done that with the same base before, like on the same brew. I've never split it anything like that and dry hopped them differently and seen the way that it changes the flavor profile.
00:37:27
Speaker
And it's it's so fucking cool. I'm really excited to see how these beers turn out. um So they will actually be launched next month at the Wine Monopoly. um So the Citra Anointing and what will also be called Divine Vision, um those are both double IPAs launching in September.
00:37:48
Speaker
So I'm really fucking pumped about that. Yeah, dude, you should be. And the fact that you've moved ah to a different brewery with potentially a lot more control over what you're doing there is really cool.
00:38:02
Speaker
ah How do you feel about that? um mean, it's it's night and day. i mean, there's the other production facility that I was was using โ
00:38:18
Speaker
So unprofessional. I'm sorry, but they're super unprofessional in the way things were handled, the way things were done, ah communication, all those kinds of things. And obviously seeing that am actually physically...
00:38:38
Speaker
at Amundsen on a regular basis, it makes things so different. I can actually taste the beer myself. I can dry hop it myself. I can change...
00:38:50
Speaker
you know, fermentation temperatures. I can actually brew the hot side beer by myself. So that's really, really, really cool. um And yeah, so I mean, it's not to say that the the first production didn't come without problems.
00:39:06
Speaker
There were some issues with calculations and we didn't hit the target gravity that was planned. Uh, so there are obviously some learning curves with a new system to be working on.
00:39:19
Speaker
And, um, but i mean, it's, I'm still really excited about the products. I think they're going to taste fantastic and they might not be 8%, but they'll be near enough to it.
00:39:30
Speaker
and So, um, yeah, as a, as a result, I've um decided I'm gearing up for the next, next beers that will go into those two tanks. Um,
00:39:42
Speaker
and And that's Christmas beer. Yeah. Tell me more about this. Because this is a big thing here in Norway, Christmas beers, right? Yeah. It's like a massive thing. Like, I mean, more or less, unless you do something super wrong, it's guaranteed sale.
00:40:01
Speaker
You know, like you either have to, it either has to be so outrageously expensive and so terribly packaged or that no one would look at it and go, oh, like, that someone would look at it and go, oh, I don't want to try that.
00:40:16
Speaker
Like, that you wouldn't sell that. But the wine monopoly will buy it anyway, right? so i mean... I've decided that I'm going to do the same thing with a split, the same base beer and split it.
00:40:29
Speaker
I'm going to do one with English ale with yeast, which is going to be like a kind of classical winter warmer style and Christmas beer.
Christmas Beer Plans
00:40:40
Speaker
Not very spicy per se, but more, you know, like malt forward, know, you know, raisin. Like a brown ale. Yeah, like a brown ale, but with like a little bit more caramel and and dried fruit character to it. Okay.
00:41:00
Speaker
And then the other one will be fermented with a Belgian yeast strain. And that will turn it into ah basically... a dry, fruity, like dried fruit raisins, toffee, ah with the spicy fenolwick character that the Belgian yeast gives it.
00:41:25
Speaker
So it'll give it a totally different feeling. What is that word you used, fenolwick? Fenolwick. It's like um all these... flavor compounds like clove and pepper and, uh, you know, there's some compounds like that are kind of spicy.
00:41:49
Speaker
That's the best way to describe it. Spicy compounds. So like things that you would, you know, spices you would add to food. And that's their phenolic compounds.
00:42:00
Speaker
So the fruity ones are esters. They're called esters. And the ester compounds are the ones that give it something a little bit more of a fruity compound.
00:42:12
Speaker
ah profile. so Typically, depending on how you ferment it, ah Belgian yeast strain will produce a lot of phenolics, but also ah fair amount of esters as well.
00:42:24
Speaker
You have a good balance between fruitiness and spiciness. um So it can be a really, really interesting brew. It can also go terribly badly if the beer is unbalanced.
00:42:37
Speaker
and But ah hopefully, I think I've got the the mix on this pretty good. ah went and bought some some Belgian candy syrup um for these beers as well.
00:42:50
Speaker
It's called D240. Not that that means anything to anyone, but it's this specialty Belgian candy syrup that you add into the beer on the hot side.
00:43:02
Speaker
and um yeah, that'll add some real to dimension to the flavor, which I'm really excited about. i mean, it's going to cost me. It's 3,000 crowns of syrup.
00:43:18
Speaker
So, yeah, it's... ah Sugar tax, sugar tax. Yeah, right. It's so mental. I had considered using Mascavo sugar instead.
00:43:32
Speaker
um But the Mascavo sugar, is like it's this kind of like unrefined sugar cane, kind of like molasses. And that will give it a more of a licorice-y flavor. And I just don't think that's what I want for this beer.
00:43:46
Speaker
ah So I decided to go for the D240, which has this rich caramel and dark stone fruity kind of flavor to it.
00:43:57
Speaker
so Are you doing like a pilot of this? No, I'm just, I'm winging it. ah I'm just going to wing it. I don't have time to test it.
00:44:07
Speaker
Yeah, I was going to say, like i like because a test brew would probably take in excess of four weeks, right? its Not only four weeks, but then like these kind of beers, they just they need time too. yeah they need They need a month or two just to round themselves off like all the harsh edges of some of the malt profiles. and then They just need a bit of time. So I don't really have that time. So...
00:44:35
Speaker
Basically, I've i've took malt bill that I had come across some years that I was quite happy with um and tweaked it a little bit.
00:44:49
Speaker
And then, of course, just to make sure I wasn't totally fucking things up. I asked ChatGPT to look over recipe and and point out any red flags.
00:45:01
Speaker
And there was very little that ChatGPT brought up. So I think i'm and think, like, I don't think it's going to be a bad beer at all.
00:45:12
Speaker
Will it be the best beer? We're yet to see. and But it it is not going to be a bad beer. Well, let's be honest. The label has a lot to do with it. Absolutely. I mean, that being said, i mean i got I've got like i got some guys from a beer club ah that sent me emails and messages. must They've almost sat there doing it together or something, I don't know.
00:45:35
Speaker
um But they had tasted the Nordic Triple and were really impressed and loved the beer. So and that's really cool. there are definitely There are people slowly but surely discovering what I'm doing and that's really fun.
00:45:50
Speaker
I think the the goal is to just keep on producing, right? Yeah, yeah. I just have to keep getting new stuff out there and getting it in front of people. And even just like revisiting stuff. So if you know one beer does okay, you know, you just, you know, in between the new stuff, we produce the cryo-Jesus or the holy or whatever it has to be. yeah yeah so that's really cool.
00:46:16
Speaker
And then other than that, it's just been summertime and i've been working. And then I got home and worked some more in the garden. to you've You've seen the creation in the garden, haven't you, doesn't?
00:46:32
Speaker
Yeah, I mean, i I was going to criticize your carpentry, but you know to be honest, I can't really criticize it. I mean, what what was to criticize?
00:46:45
Speaker
My braces? ah Braces on my pergola? Yeah, yeah. i like I don't really understand a pergola. Because most pergolas don't have a roof, so why do you even have it?
00:46:57
Speaker
it's just It just feels better to have something over your head. Doesn't it? It's weird. It's just one of those things. So anyway, I mean, um and we werere we're talking about putting like a little sail, like shade cloth type thing over it for next year, but to this year we'll just let it fly.
00:47:14
Speaker
So, yeah, I mean, it's ah there's been lots of construction happening in the in the backyard, been shoveling fucking gravel, like a, like a African slave.
00:47:33
Speaker
And, uh, you know, it just, it's been, Yeah, it's been it's been a mix of work work and more work. And, you know, the end result is the wife is happy. Then guess that's a win.
00:47:50
Speaker
But I don't feel like I've done much else other than like โ build things and then go to work. So it's a, it's a challenge at home. Like, I mean, even today i was like, Lynn was like, Oh, can you like make a new but sand pit for the kids? So that's what I did today. i made a new sand pit for the kids.
00:48:14
Speaker
So there we go. And then I had to shovel some more gravel because we've got to put gravel at the bottom of it because course you did drainage. So that was, that's been my life.
00:48:26
Speaker
Kieran, how does it feel to be always working on things?
Balancing Projects and Family Life
00:48:32
Speaker
it's I don't know, Justin. but We're probably in the same boot. No, but I'm working on the things i want to work on You're working on the things that your wife wants you to work on. Yeah, know. Well, they say happy happy wife, happy life. I'm not so sure about that.
00:48:47
Speaker
I think right now I want to give a shout out to Kristen because the other day she they were lounging around in bed. you know having a long sort of morning. Oh, fucking. know. the they Just out on side note, the kids have been getting up at 5.30 in the morning lately.
00:49:06
Speaker
it's fucking killing me. Well, that's not my problem, Gary. You're the one that had kids so late. Anyway, on with it. yeah I mean, you ah you've been through your phase with kids. Yeah, exactly. Exactly.
00:49:20
Speaker
No, but I just wanted to say that because Kristen, she you know she' sort of rolled over and just said, ah can't even remember the exact word she used, but it was along the lines of like, I'm so proud of you and ah can't wait for this to turn into something even bigger bigger than I know.
00:49:42
Speaker
ah can't even imagine it will be or something along this Is she talking about your penis?
00:49:59
Speaker
Sorry. Yeah. oh yeah She can't even imagine it being bigger. Yeah. say Yeah.
00:50:16
Speaker
I was going to come with something. i was going to disrespect Kristen. and I was going to everyone was going to laugh. And it was going to be funny. But I've decided no, I got to keep my tongue.
00:50:28
Speaker
I will just focus praising Kristen for everything. She is and amazing, supportive woman. And i you know, I think I really took note of that because on the same day i went to go visit the painter who's going to paint the car.
00:50:47
Speaker
Now, we used to be like colleagues before when I worked as a furniture maker. Yeah. And he was sort of telling me that like his wife is kind of like,
00:51:00
Speaker
always looking to buy new things, wants more stuff, and she doesn't really realize that he has to work more hours and really work his ass off, which he does.
00:51:12
Speaker
But then you know when he wants to go do something he wants to do, it's like, no, you're doing time stuff with the kids or you're doing stuff with me or... you know So he doesn't really get his own time. It's work or family time.
00:51:26
Speaker
yeah And I think that made me really, really grateful because I'd heard that from Kristen in this in that morning and then I'd go to visit my ex-colleague and hear his story of how he has it. it just made me so grateful for for Kristen and and how she supports me in this crazy journey that I'm on.
00:51:49
Speaker
So shout out to Kristen. Shout out to Kristen. ah Whilst I'm here, this is a good so segue, isn't Ooh, segue. Shout out to my patrons.
00:52:01
Speaker
Ooh. To my heroes. Thomas Buckner, Mark Foster, Janis Clems. I did it again. Kelms.
00:52:14
Speaker
Thomas Angel, Arthur Midgard, Frederick Lyons. Kieran White, the Swedish maker, Mark Jones, Anders Abrahamsson.
00:52:27
Speaker
a Massive shout out to Anders, by the way. He came and just sanded for a couple of hours with me. What a sick gun. Yeah, I know. What a legend. Absolute legend. I don't think I really thanked him enough. So, absolute legend. And if anyone else wants to come to my house and help me on projects, you're more than welcome.
00:52:46
Speaker
Please just come and send me a DM on Instagram. ah Ryan Wilson as well. ah Jeez, I think I have not done my list probably because these are some of these old ones.
00:53:00
Speaker
They dropped off. Yeah. They're not praise anyway. Yeah, yeah. Thank you for for supporting the Garage Avenger at some point in time. ah Adstein Soos, absolute legends. And then, of course, i have to shout out my top-tier heroes.
00:53:19
Speaker
Oh, my top-tier heroes. God, I can't even talk today. My sidekicks ah from Arna. And then, of course, Thomas Smestad, absolute legend.
00:53:31
Speaker
ah And then i also have... um A new sidekick, John Robertson, which we talked about last podcast. or Yeah.
00:53:42
Speaker
but because Jono. Yeah. Jono. And, of course, Sylvester. ah Those guys, they are crazy. yeah They've supported me so much. And the just literally this week, I sent a bunch of merch off to John.
00:54:01
Speaker
for some for his support. And so here he's getting a crazy custom hoodie and T-shirt and a cap just for supporting me, but doing what he's, you know, just believing in me. So I really appreciate everyone, including those guys that are just, you know, give me a dollar a day, a dollar a month, I should
Summer Holiday Frustrations
00:54:22
Speaker
mean, every little bit counts and that pays for a lot of stuff. And in fact, weirdly, also pays for the time I use doing this podcast. So appreciate you guys.
00:54:36
Speaker
Thanks, everyone. Kieran. Yes, Justin. What's giving you the shits?
00:54:44
Speaker
Are you ready? Norwegian summer. Oh, come on. It's so good. It was so good this year. No, I'm not talking about the weather.
00:54:56
Speaker
No, no, and no, no. I'm talking about summer holidays. I'm talking about when you are the poor sap who has to work during the summer holidays and you are required other businesses that should also have some level of staffing through the holidays to do their jobs.
00:55:21
Speaker
And it's summer holidays. So everyone just sits around on their ass and does nothing and drinks coffee whilst the boss is away in Spain. And, uh, and like nothing happens in this country in July, like nothing, and everything stops up. If you need, it's like, um, you know, it's like if the hospitals function like that, like out.
00:55:44
Speaker
ah This would be like the Black Month July where everyone just fucking died in hospital because there was no staffing. but I mean, it's it it is insane how, like, I mean, Australia has its times where things slow down.
00:56:05
Speaker
You have Christmas time, which is probably the biggest one, and maybe some stuff around Easter, but not really. But, I mean, here people just โ I mean, they drop, like, tools down, like, wherever they're standing. Like, everything is just, like, it's 3 o'clock, I'm out. See you later. Bye. See you in four weeks.
00:56:23
Speaker
You know. They'd have to don't even turn on their email replies. Yeah. And then like, so you're just sending emails wondering why they're not getting back to you. And then they're just, and then you ring them and then they're on holidays.
00:56:37
Speaker
So, no, it's giving me a little shits a little bit. Because just, I'm like, I mean, you might say, well, Kieran, you poor sap. You should be on holidays too. Well, it's a, it's a just just remember, holidaying is a privilege.
00:56:55
Speaker
A privilege, not a right. Right. you know, it's it's a beautiful thing when you get it. It's amazing. And I wish everyone had holidays.
00:57:06
Speaker
But it it is still a privilege. No, it's not true, Kieran. In Norwegian lore, it's a right. Right. So, yeah, but it'sโฆ Tough titties, Kieran.
00:57:18
Speaker
No emails will be answered but between 1st of July to the 30th of July. It's tough titties, mate. It's just how it is here.
00:57:29
Speaker
You should also take holidays. Let's just be honest here. I'm quite um quite jealous that I don't have four weeks of holidays this
00:57:39
Speaker
Well, you know, I went on a holiday and it was horrible. So I'm glad enjoyed it. I'm not in your boat. You know I wish I was at work instead.
00:57:51
Speaker
There you go. No, I'm just kidding. Should have swapped places. Okay. Kieran, you know what's giving me the shits? Tell me. Lufutun.
00:58:04
Speaker
Lufutun. does Who does number two work for? Sorry, I forgot the jingle on Kieran's shits.
00:58:16
Speaker
Yeah. It's a beautiful place, Lufutun. Amazing. Tell me what's giving the shits about it. Well, when we were there... There was a bunch of imbeciles there.
00:58:29
Speaker
Okay. It was so crazy. Like we literally caught the ferry over and then just boom. Millions of people, not millions, but ah you know lots and lots of people just doing really stupid things. ah that's When people are sort of crammed onto these islands, e they start doing really stupid things.
00:58:52
Speaker
Okay. Like what? Like deciding that they're going to park... and camp overnight in the like the little overtaking lane spot where where like the lanes are so small you can only fit one car.
00:59:07
Speaker
Yeah, yeah. Yeah, so they decide they're going to, you know, it's 11 o'clock at night. No one needs to drive. Yeah, Freelift's Loven. I'm sorry, it's not Freelift's Loven when there's a, it's a road, Kieran. It's insane. And it just gave me the shits. Like,
00:59:26
Speaker
i Loved most of Norway. Like Tromsรธ up there was amazing, really lovely. Even though there was lots of tourists up there as well, it was it but was a bit more relaxed. But soon as we got into Ljofoten, there came one bloody killer whale out in the long, far out. You couldn't see shit.
00:59:49
Speaker
Like you saw this little speck if you were using your eyes. But like if you had a telescopic lens, maybe you could see this this killer whale you know jumping out of the water or doing whatever it was doing.
01:00:03
Speaker
But the traffic just stopped. There was a traffic jam in the middle of nowhere because everyone decided rather than drive their car on the road, they'd park their car on the road without pulling it aside because they didn't want to lose their position in the traffic, right?
01:00:24
Speaker
Right. So they stopped their car, pulled the handbrake up, turned the engine off, walked out of their car, walked to the barrier and down a cliff so they could take a photo.
01:00:39
Speaker
Which you needed a telescopic lens to even get a decent shot of anyway. Yeah, everyone's using their phones, using the digital zooms that's super pixelated and shit, right? And then we came โ well, luckily we're not in this traffic. Luckily we're going the other direction.
01:00:57
Speaker
So we came through the tunnel and then realized that everyone was โ what the hell is going on here? Yeah, right. And literally as we get out of the tunnel, there's a bus driver with this just โ hand planted on the horn, just holding it for, I don't know how long it took us to get past, but like easily three, four minutes to get past all these cars.
01:01:19
Speaker
He was just three, four minutes just going, ah he was so pissed that there were bunch of absolute idiots going bananas for this bloody killer whale that was Yeah, nearly unseeable by the naked eye.
01:01:35
Speaker
i just It's crazy. Yeah, but it's, i mean, yeah, sure. Lufthansa's kind of, I'm sure it's quite pretty.
01:01:49
Speaker
But didn't feel very pretty with all that those people in traffic. Yeah, that's sad. i mean, because the reality the sad truth is, though, is is that that that kind of all those people are ruining Lufthansa in more than one way. like I was talking to my neighbor about this the other day, and he was saying that all these, what's because of the popularity of Lufthansa, foreign money is buying properties up there.
01:02:18
Speaker
and then leasing them out as like Airbnbs and whatever. And this is pushing the price of cost of living, which is already high in Lufthansa, like through the roof.
01:02:29
Speaker
So if you're a regular fisherman or whatever who lives in Lufthansa, you can't even afford to buy her at your own house in Lufthansa nowadays. You can't. A fisherman, they earn gazillions. Exactly, right? that's This is the crazy thing about it.
01:02:47
Speaker
So there you go. I don't believe you, Kieran. Well, I'm just telling you what I've been told.
Recognition from Toyota
01:02:55
Speaker
So anyway, Justin, what's blowing your mind this week?
01:03:00
Speaker
I'll tell you what's blowing my mind. e Toyota.
01:03:10
Speaker
Mind blown. What, with their hydrogen cell ah engine? Well, I mean, that for one is really cool. In Finland, they had a hydrogen cell rally car.
01:03:23

Oh, really? Wow. That's cool. ah But I mean, mainly the fact that, you know, excuse me, I'm burping. ah Mainly the fact that to Toyota wants to ring this little YouTuber in Norway who's building a miniature version of their car and wants to be involved in doing something together. It just blows my mind.
01:03:49
Speaker
It's really, really cool. And I just am so grateful for everything so far. It's just been an absolute, even if nothing comes of this, that's another thing.
01:04:00
Speaker
Just literally having that phone call is enough for me. You have to be seen that ah what I'm doing is of interest. now they might not have the budget or they might they and might end up thinking it's a dumb idea to do what they were suggesting, but we'll just wait and see and we'll see what comes in you' Like I said, the least I can take away from it is that I got the phone call in the first place. Yeah. so yeah That's blowing my mind. What about you, Kieran? Yeah.
01:04:33
Speaker
You know what's blowing my mind? i was listening to a podcast the other day and they were talking about nuclear war. It's very light topic.
01:04:44
Speaker
Mind blown. Well, the bit that blew my mind is that apparently in the Pentagon, they do this basically a simulation for a nuclear war beginning three times a day.
01:05:09
Speaker
So this is like, that's crazy. Like that's, I mean, and then part of all, there's a practical reason to it is every time there's a shift change and there's three shifts in a day, they do a simulation of, of ah basically we're going to war, mutual destruction.
01:05:30
Speaker
So, sounds super healthy. Yeah, it's fucking it's fucked up. It's so fucked up. But it blew my mind of like three times a day. Fucking hell.
01:05:41
Speaker
Yeah. There's a bunch of fucked up shit happening in the world at the moment, but that's a time that's a conversation for another time. Yep. So, anyway, it blew my mind three times. the practice Practiced in the Pentagon three times daily.
01:06:02
Speaker
Justin, what's your, ah do I have to use song after do I'll do the song. Yeah, do the song, Karen. Recommendation, recommendation. What is your recommendation?
01:06:16
Speaker
My recommendation is to go check out your own country, no matter where you live. Yeah. I checked out Norway, parts of Norway I've never seen before. it's an amazing place.
01:06:28
Speaker
Gorgeous some areas, cesspits others. I mean, yeah where we found this like camping spot in Snorset, I think it was called.
01:06:42
Speaker
Okay. Snorset. and Yeah. And it's like this big lake in in the middle part of Norway there. And it was just such a unique place.
01:06:54
Speaker
place It had this like, not a haunted house, but like a house frozen in time. Okay. and And then, you know the the owners of the property kind of like open it up as like a bit of a museum, but there's all this weird and quirky stuff in it. Like yeah there's just like a fake finger in the door of a cupboard and stuff like that.
01:07:19
Speaker
there just And there's like these dolls, like, you know, with monster faces on the in the beds and stuff. It was just so so random. and And the kids had so much fun in there. They just thought it was so creepy and fun at the same time.
01:07:37
Speaker
And this was just this random place we stumbled across ah when we were actually looking for a place to swim. There you go. And then we found this place and they had super nice facilities. Everything was super quirky.
01:07:53
Speaker
And they had like text written on everything, like little notes everywhere. Just the simple stuff like, you know, like if the door needed to be pulled tight and latched, it would say like pull door tight and latch, you know, like, you know, simple stuff like this. And then, you know,
01:08:14
Speaker
Then it would say like this this soap is made from yeah or something, something. And it was just written on text or on the wall next to where the soap dispenser is or something. it's like It was just so super quirky and fun. And there was free rowboats. You could just take a rowboat out and start rowing on the lake. Yeah.
01:08:32
Speaker
and you could fishing and you could do all sorts of stuff. That was great. Cool. You know, we wouldn't found places like this if we didn't just go, you know, check out your own country. You know, it's so interesting.
01:08:44
Speaker
Yeah. And there's always going to be places in your own country where you've just, you had no idea that these places existed. And and ah I think it's worth doing.
01:08:57
Speaker
Nice. What's your recommendation? My recommendation is, and sounds like a boring one compared to yours. Sorry. was thinking about TV.
01:09:12
Speaker
I've been watching ah a c c a series on TV called The Chosen. Oh, okay. ah Now, before you switch off ah when I say the word Jesus...
01:09:31
Speaker
and this is it's ah It's an independently made series based on, like a fictional series based on the Gospels, like the books of the Bible on you know, Jesus meeting ah the disciples and everything that's happening in the whole Jewish world at that time.
01:09:57
Speaker
and i was, like, skeptical when I started watching this show because i was just like, this has got to be, like, cheesy as fuck and super...
01:10:09
Speaker
like pathetic, like as most Christian made like series like this are. And I was really surprised by it. I was really surprised. In fact, I'm on season three now.
01:10:20
Speaker
I'm just, I really enjoy it. So, um, yeah. It's it's a is really interesting. The characters are really interesting, the way they've kind of dived into all these biblical characters ah in a way that you probably, if you skimming if you've ever read the Bible, you probably never pick up on a lot of this stuff, but it's actually there's actually in the text and they've really extrapolated the stories and and made it into a really interesting narrative and timeline and that's really quite captivating in and interesting.
01:10:55
Speaker
Yeah. So that's my recommendation for this week is The Chosen. It's on Netflix if you're interested. So give it a crack. See what you think. and Fantastic. All right, cool. Well, we've managed...
01:11:09
Speaker
Yeah, about an hour of and a bit. I'm surprised. I thought this thing was going to be like three hours. this Yeah, let's be honest. We could waffle on forever, but let's just cut it there. ah Everyone has been...
01:11:25
Speaker
what what Less is more? Isn't that what they say? More is definitely less. Yeah. So thank you guys all for listening and i appreciate all of you for, you know, sticking with us after this long hiatus.
01:11:41
Speaker
And we will see hopefully next week. That's the plan. That's the plan. All right, everyone. Thanks again. revoir.
01:11:52
Speaker
Au revoir. Au revoir. Au revoir.
