Introduction and Unique Projects

00:00:01
Speaker
This is the Garage Avenger Podcast.
00:00:14
Speaker
Hello and welcome to the Garage of Edge podcast. I'm Justin, trying to share the joy of building my non-street legal death machines in my garage in the hope of one day trying to make a living off it.
00:00:26
Speaker
And I'm Kieran trying to turn my garage brewed beers into a world-renowned taste sensation. That was a very nice intro, thanks bro.
00:00:38
Speaker
thought that'd be nice one time. Next week, we'll back we'll be back to our normal, horrible, horrible intros. um Yeah, we are Twin Brothers. have a passion for creating the wild and unexpected. And we'll take you this week on what's happening in our garages.
00:00:56
Speaker
And Kieran, anything happening in your garage this week? and Very little in the physical garage, that is for sure. Oh, boo. Yeah, yeah. This is called the Garage Avenger Podcast. know. I'm sorry. not really ah drop avenging garages, are No, no. Well, I'm avenging them by letting them be.
00:01:21
Speaker
this yeah and that No, that doesn't work.

Kieran's Beer Innovations

00:01:26
Speaker
No, this week, and Divine Vision was finally tapped.
00:01:33
Speaker
Ooh. Wait, before we get too far into this, what are you doing? Today, um i haven't even opened the can yet. we go. Let's see if it like it looks pretty like like it's kind of a little bit high sprung, this can. Hopefully it doesn't fucking piss all over me.
00:01:53
Speaker
It is highly carbonated, whatever it is. It is a pink radler.
00:02:04
Speaker
That sounds like the most, I'm sorry, homosexual drink I've ever had. I mean, is this is made from Sleeping Village, a Norwegian...
00:02:20
Speaker
contract brewer um he's basically blended his gosa beer with like a like a sour sour beer type with um bergamot lemon and lime and so into like a little kind of radler a bit of a shandy blandy if you will, at 2.7%. So I'm not going to be slurring my words by the end of this, that's for sure.
00:02:52
Speaker
But it smells lovely. It smells really nice and citrusy.
00:02:59
Speaker
um And um it's really lovely and refreshing. um I like it. i like it a lot. It's... um It's quite a complex flavor profile from all the different types of citrus in this.
00:03:16
Speaker
So I really like it. um I'm really happy with it. So good. Sleeping Village, Pink Radler. If you're on on the road for an easy one, it's enjoyable drink.
00:03:30
Speaker
There you go Nice. um I'm drinking this beer called Holy Ghost. oh It's my last can.
00:03:42
Speaker
Last one? Yeah, I've drunk them all. You better order some more. ah I'm broke, so no. You got you got my money already, Kieran, you dirty dog.
00:03:54
Speaker
Someone else needs to buy him some. Yeah, I agree. ah Not me.
00:04:04
Speaker
It's a great beer. I probably drank, don't know, I bought, I know I bought at least 20 of these, I think. It's almost a full case, bro. And what's funny is we ordered these when we were on holidays.
00:04:22
Speaker
Yeah, that's right. To Brunhainstern. And we thought that we were going to get there with plenty of time and pick them up and it'd be all good.
00:04:32
Speaker
We were up in Brunnenaußen and we left and we're about an hour north of Brunnenaußen and then I get a message. Oh, your beers have arrived.
00:04:44
Speaker
God damn it. Perfect timing. A lot of these beers have actually traveled all the way up to Brunnenaußen and then... have been picked up by me and driven back down to Tensburg.
00:04:59
Speaker
So, well-traveled beer. It's like the Lena Arkowitz of beers. Well, it you know, it has been up in the polar circle. Yeah, exactly. Makes it makes it taste better.
00:05:09
Speaker
Well, actually, technically not up in the polar circle. little bit, very close to polar circle. Okay. Close enough. Just kissed it. Kissed the edge of the polar circle. So, yeah, it's um it's not, I would say, it's not this type of beer you drink 10 of them in a row and go, yeah, that was mad.

Challenges and Success in Brewing

00:05:31
Speaker
um This is like a kind of one or two of in a night type of beer. And it's got the perfect blend.
00:05:42
Speaker
You tasted it on this show couple of weeks back or quite a few weeks back. Some some weeks ago now. Yeah. And you said it was a perfect balance of spice. i would agree.
00:05:54
Speaker
it's not hot. It's just you feel this warm... you know glow in your in your mouth and your throat that's kind of how it is it's really lovely um i feel like i knowing what your original taste is like i feel like it's missing something but as we have discussed also on this podcast you know that it wasn't brewed quite the same as no no but uh you know it's um everything with a grain salt it can i think it can definitely be a better beer but uh
00:06:28
Speaker
I think it's still a great beer. I think so too. Thoroughly enjoy it. So please, everybody, ah go buy up the last couple of cans of these. I don't know how many is left, Kieran. Probably only a couple of hundred, I imagine.
00:06:42
Speaker
Yes. so I'm looking at the numbers now as we speak. the There is and ah bunch of different stores that have it at the moment.
00:06:53
Speaker
um There's only about
00:06:59
Speaker
30 cases left in the warehouse so uh it's gonna go quick um at this the way i mean especially now it's starting to go okay if you're if you live anywhere near drummond there's some in drummond there's one there's some in the oslo akabriga oslo city Vik i Hule, whole hole whatever they
00:07:29
Speaker
Storow in Oslo, Linderyd in ozo Oslo, Nitedalen, Fredrikstad and Elverum. There you Elverland is a new one. That's ah that's cool.
00:07:43
Speaker
So there's some there's people and there's still there's still cases going out of the warehouse nearly every week now. So um it's it's going and I think it'll be gone definitely by before the Christmas beers come, that's for sure.
00:08:00
Speaker
So fantastic. Yeah. So let's say that's been what I've been kind of doing, tapped the divine vision on Friday. Yeah, this is the one that was not quite stopping fermentation, right? Yeah, right. So fascinating how these two beers are so different, even though they're the exact same base.
00:08:25
Speaker
and ah And it's just, but you know what? I'm really happy with how it's turned out. It's fantastic. um Could be, could be my best beer yet.
00:08:38
Speaker
depending on how, you you know, that's very subjective, of course. But um it's it's really nice. I'm really happy with the result. I think the cans look fucking boss. um You know, it's got this white can with a gold lid on top to kind of match the graphic on the on the can.
00:08:58
Speaker
And I think it's just, it's turned out really good. I'm pretty really, really happy with it, actually. So... Yeah, I'm looking forward to seeing um how people yeah react to it. i'm going to be doing a beer launch yeah at Henry and Sally's in Oslo, which is the McKellar Bar, on the 4th of September. So that's next week. If you are in the Oslo area in kind of on the Thursday evening, the 4th of September,
00:09:30
Speaker
ah drop by. I'll be there. Say g'day. And we'll have a beer and we can have a chat. That'd be lovely. Awesome. I wish I could be there, but I'm working, unfortunately.
00:09:41
Speaker
m Yeah, but that's all right. You know, I understand it's it's ah not everyone can make the Trippin' Dolls Logis for a beer launch, but it will be launched at the Wine Monopoly. So you will get your chance ah to taste it. That's launching, I think it launches the same day.
00:10:00
Speaker
I'll have to double check on that. And so either way, you should be able to go to the One Monopoly website and order it there.

Contract Brewing and Authenticity

00:10:09
Speaker
so How are you feeling about both these beers? Are you feeling good about them?
00:10:13
Speaker
You know what? i'm i was There were so many weird things with how this beer went. Like the screwed up brew day, ah things like, you know, like the citra anointing the version of the beer stopping too early and then the other one fermenting way too much.
00:10:35
Speaker
And so, they like, had a lot of mixed feelings about, like, this is not exactly what I planned. But, you know, tasting the results... Like I really can't complain at all.
00:10:47
Speaker
Like I'm um'm happy with those beers. Like I had a after a couple of days Cannes, I drank a Citroen anointing and I was just like, oh, fucking this is great.
00:11:00
Speaker
And so, you know, when when you have that feeling of like, oh, this is good. um I think that's, that's ah I can't ask for anything more than that. And i I mean, my hope is that everyone else who tries it will feel the same way.
00:11:15
Speaker
um I had to ah have had a small sample available at Ypsilon Bar, which is owned by a friend of mine in Drummond. And they bought some for the this week at the Edlofestivalen.
00:11:30
Speaker
and ah And I was there helping out on Saturday. And I watched a few people buy the beer and drink it, not knowing that I was the one that brewed it.
00:11:42
Speaker
And, you know, them sharing it around with their friends and, you know, commenting, oh this is really good or, you know, wow, this is crazy or things like that. And, um yeah.
00:11:55
Speaker
So I think i think ah these ah these have these two beers, i think especially the divine vision, have the potential to start to kick off Eucharist in in the kind of beer geek scene where people just really be looking for the next release from me. So Like they have that potential, I think. So I'm looking forward to seeing where that will go.
00:12:27
Speaker
and and yeah, so that's it's been pretty good. Other than that, you know, i ah signed my life away and this ah last week as well. um Do tell. Took a job took a day job.
00:12:43
Speaker
and So, you know, these things it's not that things at Eucharist are not going, um are going bad. it's not If anything, they're on the increase.
00:12:55
Speaker
ah But I have also faced with the reality that it's not going to go as well as I want it right now to make sure I can pay my mortgage.
00:13:06
Speaker
So I've had to secure i kind of more stable income. So we're doing that for a period now and see how that goes. And if you know what, if things with Eucharist kick off, then fucking it's game on.
00:13:21
Speaker
So we'll see how that goes. But I mean, it's really nice. I've been, now I'm obviously, I'm taking a position at Armundsen as a brewer there.
00:13:33
Speaker
and They're really happy with me, which is really nice to hear. and they're going to, they're also still producing my beer. They have no problem with producing my beer. So that's really nice.
00:13:44
Speaker
to here. And, uh, so I'm still going to be able to brew, ah you know, and I'll have full control over everything. So it's so, so, so nice. It's basically like having my own industrial brewery.
00:13:55
Speaker
Nice. Yeah, dude, that's awesome. So, um, I'm really looking forward to that. And, um, Yeah, I think it's ah it's it's the right move for right now. Absolutely.
00:14:06
Speaker
So, yeah, and that's pretty much been it, Justin. It sounds like you've had a little bit more of a actual garage weekend, week.
00:14:17
Speaker
Yeah, before you get to me, I wanted to quickly touch on a couple of things. Sure. so So, you were talking to me the other day about the feelings of because you're a ghost brewery or a contract brewer, ah you don't feel you're legitimate.
00:14:37
Speaker
I was wondering if you could just talk a little bit about that and your feelings around feeling of legitimacy even though you're on the contract brewing. and and that's yeah I think it's it's not necessarily I'm not personally feeling like
00:14:59
Speaker
It's a feeling that I have. I feel the resistance from customers. That's what I pick up on.
00:15:12
Speaker
ah The people who are diehard brewers or diehard beer fans, they wanna come and visit a location. They wanna see where it's produced. they want you know And then when I explain to them like I'm just contract brewing,
00:15:28
Speaker
they're so disappointed. and And so that's the that's the feeling I'm talking about. This is more to do with the with customers ah who are curious about what I'm doing and wanting to come and see where it's happening or you know there's this whole culture of people who love just visiting breweries.
00:15:51
Speaker
And um especially if they love the beer, of course. And it kind of gives like a sense of, for them, it gives a sense of, oh, this is someone who's invested in you know, producing these fantastic beers.
00:16:05
Speaker
And I can go and physically visit their location and be a part of what they're doing. So, i mean, for me personally, like that would be nice, but I also see the real impracticality of having my own production location.
00:16:26
Speaker
It just doesn't make sense. It doesn't make sense financially at this stage and it doesn't make sense practically at this stage. And and so it it doesn't, for me it doesn't,
00:16:40
Speaker
I'm not losing any sleep over the fact that I'm contract brewing. Um, but i I, do have that understanding that there are a very select number of people that may not view the brand as legitimate because it ah we don't have, you know I don't have my own production location that is 100% Eucharist Brewing's brewery.
00:17:08
Speaker
So if that's the feeling that I, that, uh, you know, communicated, then I guess that's the feeling. Yeah. Yeah. So, I mean, how many beers have you actually put out on the market technically?
00:17:21
Speaker
So, ah cosmic Christ, Holy Ghost, rushing wind, which is the, the, um, non chili version, which is on the one keg.
00:17:34
Speaker
um, I also have a Messiah Milkshake, ah which is basically a rebadged Cosmic Christ.
00:17:47
Speaker
And the Cryo Jesus, now there will be ah two more coming and the and the Nordic Triple. So that's eight, eight beers, eight different beers on the market.
00:18:05
Speaker
At some point, some have gone out of production already. like Cosmic Christ is all done. i mean, I do have a few kegs left, but yeah. so I just wanted to do put that in perspective. you know like i think if you explain to those few that care, they'll realize, wait a second, he's just starting this thing out like because he's only had eight beers out in the market.
00:18:32
Speaker
like, of course he's still contract brewing. You know, like he hasn't proved himself anywhere yet. But the other the reality is, and and that that is 100% true, like you just need to use the time to explain. And I think if if anyone is curious enough to hold a conversation with you about that, then they understand. and The challenge is that most people it's just like ah
00:19:00
Speaker
you know, like a comment on a post or, a you know, a messenger post or something like that. And it's not something that allows a conversation.
00:19:12
Speaker
And I think the other thing too is that people just assume because you've got a a beer in a can, you have a production location. And there's a lot of assumption there and a lack of education.
00:19:26
Speaker
So, I mean, it kind of works in my favor in the other sense for people who are not really thinking about that, who are just thinking about the brand, you know, unlike, I like that brand. They don't know that it's produced in a location, you know, for someone that some other one, other brewery produces beer.
00:19:46
Speaker
and I think 99.9% of people don't give a flying shit where where it's brewed and how it's brewed. No, exactly. They care what it tastes like and what it kind of looks like in their hands. Like that's it's the two things they care about really.
00:20:04
Speaker
0.1% of people are like, oh, this is legit. Like who cares? Don't even waste your time with those people. They're just the people that are you know,
00:20:17
Speaker
ah The only reason that I even think about those people is because those are the beer geek people, which are the early adopters.
00:20:30
Speaker
that lead to to the greatest success down the line. Now, not every beer geek gives a shit. that's Let's be honest here. most peace i mean, a lot of beer geeks are just closet alcoholics.
00:20:44
Speaker
So they just i just want to drink something with alcohol in it that tastes good. um So they don't really care where it comes from. so but you know, it's there's a balance there. I think you can ah you need to be able to wrestle your own feelings about certain things. Like, like I have to say that it has that idea of legitimacy has crossed my mind. It's not crossing my, it's not bothering me as much as it used to.
00:21:15
Speaker
and but I think definitely it's, um, it's something that I can, that I'm working on and also not caring so much about other people is, is part of the,
00:21:31
Speaker
part of the journey. Yeah. I think it's a superpower. Like no one cares and everybody cares. Yeah. Right. I mean, you need the obvious thing is you need someone to care cause they got to buy the product. so but, uh, but in the sense that you, that mentality of nobody gives us yet gives you the freedom to be able to do what you want to do.
00:21:54
Speaker
And then you attract your niche people that care for what you're doing, right? And it's really important to keep that in note. you Because that's what I found over these last couple of years with this whole YouTube stuff is, you know,
00:22:11
Speaker
Building the things you want to build is great, but it should always build in the things you want to build. And there's always this underlying like, oh, will they like it?
00:22:24
Speaker
o that that's that's the That's the Achilles heel. You know, just you have to be able to just say, you know what? I like it.
00:22:35
Speaker
I think it's cool. And then the people that like what you like will jump aboard. And there's this weird thing about people being attracted to authenticity.
00:22:48
Speaker
Yeah, absolutely. I've had to learn this over the last couple of years too, is just go back and be bit more yeah authentic.

Justin's Roll Cage Adventure

00:22:57
Speaker
Yeah. You know, just don't do all these puppet stuff and this bloody mankini man stuff, all this stuff. Like just relax.
00:23:08
Speaker
You don't have to entertain. You just have to be real. Because a big part of the YouTube thing is like making videos that you can click on, you know, and getting like people to engage with your work.
00:23:23
Speaker
But you in the end, you're only doing it for the people who watch the whole video through. Yeah, right. like That's the way i the way I see it. And I think you can see it the same way. Because there look, in my videos, about 30% to 35% of people watch the video all the way through.
00:23:41
Speaker
o And they're the ones I make the video for. Because they're obviously invested enough to spend the whole time watching the video instead of skipping to the end. Right? So...
00:23:55
Speaker
I make the video for them. It's the same for the beer, right? Like you make the beer for them who enjoys the same things as you enjoy. Yeah.
00:24:08
Speaker
And then don't worry about those beer geeks that have a problem with you not being a legit brewery or whatever, you know? like Just make it for for you. And to to be honest, if you're able to produce at Armidson, then you pretty much a legit brewery, in my opinion.
00:24:28
Speaker
You're like, yeah, you could just weirdly call yourself side brewery to Armidson or something like this, you know? Yeah, exactly. mean, it's not far off.
00:24:40
Speaker
Let's be honest here.
00:24:44
Speaker
Yeah. So,
00:24:48
Speaker
be nice to yourself, Kieran, with regards to that stuff. Yeah.
00:24:55
Speaker
so Sorry, I was just have i've been thinking i was thinking about something. and you like ah When you were talking about people, you know, people-pleasing, basically, you know, ah and like what will people think.
00:25:10
Speaker
It just reminded me of a Bible verse that Jesus talks about. So the woe to you, all men who speak well of you, and for their, um, they'll be, their fathers are treated like false prophets. So it's an interesting verse where basically like Jesus is saying, woe, woe to you who, who basically are looking for the approval, uh, of, ah bit of other people.
00:25:38
Speaker
You won't, you won't achieve or get anything that you want. I think that's really interesting. So anyway, sorry, that was a bit of a deep ah side note there. On with your stuff in the ah in the garage, Justin, what have you been doing?
00:25:56
Speaker
Well, I've been using a lot of time building the roll cage this week. Yeah. And um
00:26:08
Speaker
let's be honest. It's not an FIA-approved roll cage. Yeah, yeah. So I told you last week I went down a bit of a rabbit hole with roll cages and stuff, and and yeah we started I started building it with Frederick, and we kind of put in this basic a hoop over my head.
00:26:31
Speaker
yeah got the the body back from paint. Yeah. Which was really cool. yeah I don't know when I did that. I can't remember. It must have been Tuesday Wednesday something.
00:26:45
Speaker
and But we got the body back and we put it put it on the body. i made the i've fixed all the mounts and the fact that it can roll around now is like pretty damn cool.
00:26:58
Speaker
I could technically go drive it, but I won't because there's... To be honest, I'm shitting myself if I damage that body. Yeah, right. And yeah, i mean, it's just been a great experience now with the body on it, just feeling like it's a whole car.
00:27:18
Speaker
e You know, and now I've got to be careful. I cover it in blankets all the time, just just in case I'm grinding or I'm, you know, like doing a little spray paint here and there just so don't get it on the bodywork.
00:27:31
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. um But going back to the roll cage, I decided that I was going to like extend the roll cage forward, which turned out to be a lot harder than I thought it was going to be because the bloody bender kept on breaking.
00:27:48
Speaker
like there's So we borrowed bender from my friend's work. And it's it's one of these kind of really good mandrel benders. It doesn't quite have...
00:28:00
Speaker
all the bells and whistles, but it's kind of you dial in the angle you want and you just push this button and off it bends. It's kind of kind of cool in that regard. yeah um And I was like, sweet, right. We're just going to bend all these pipes and we'll get this whole thing up and running. So I put the pipe in.
00:28:21
Speaker
I dial it up to the angle I want, which is to make the hoop in the front. And I push the buttons and beep, fail alarm. I'm like, oh, God.
00:28:34
Speaker
This is the tool you borrowed from someone else, yeah. Yeah, yeah. And I'm thinking I've broken it and I i cannot, I cannot use my built-in hydraulic bender to bend this pipe either because it'll just flatten the pipe.
00:28:52
Speaker
Yeah. So you don't really get a nice bend or a strong bend either because it's just a flat pipe. Yeah. So I'm like, ugh. God, what am I going to do? Yeah. and So I just, for for a while, I started to like muck it around. I felt I had bent these two other pipes at 90 degrees.
00:29:12
Speaker
and I thought, you know what? I'll just use them. I'll just like, I'll weld them together and then it'll be good. Hmm. So then I wanted to film this failure of this bender, right?
00:29:26
Speaker
Yeah. so so So I set up the camera. I put a bit of pipe in and I went to press it. Now, the lights wasn't exactly right for the camera angle. So I moved the bender and changed the just the um power socket it was sitting in.
00:29:47
Speaker
Hmm. And then I pushed the button, the bloody thing worked. i was like, what? I thought it was just a fluke, right? It was just like, oh, it worked once, it won't happen again.
00:29:57
Speaker
And I pushed again, it worked again, pushed it again, worked again, pushed again. I'm like, it's working now. So I threw threw away the the other bends that I was gonna do and I just put a new pipe in, bent it all up, made the hoop.
00:30:14
Speaker
now If you're going to make a roll cage properly in the roof, you'd make like this X pattern, which makes it really strong, especially in the corners.
00:30:25
Speaker
And that would like, if you roll it sort of on the front A pillar, you, you would be fully protected in there. yeah Um, But then I realized I can't do that because I've got to get through the roof into the car, right? Right, yeah, of course.
00:30:43
Speaker
So i was thinking, all right, well, then I'll just put straight bars. It's not the strongest way of doing this, but I'll put straight bars in. And then I just mocked them up a little bit. i was like, I wonder if i I should probably try and get in the car with these bars in place.
00:31:00
Speaker
And as I tried to get in the car and because the way the car is designed and how you get into it, you have to have you your shoulders square. Right. So you can't like with those two bars in it, I had to twist my shoulders sideways to get down in it and you couldn't get in the bloody car.
00:31:19
Speaker
me So it's like, oh God, what have I done? So in the end, what I had to do was I had to bend the pipes the opposite way and have it a wider opening for getting in and out.
00:31:35
Speaker
So it's technically not the strongest cage ever, that's for sure, but it's a lot safer than I didn't have a cage. Yeah. I'm not really happy about the weight, though, because it's it's pretty damn heavy now. Yeah. Do you think it'll affect the the motor?
00:31:52
Speaker
The load? Yes, it will have an effect, but i my hope is that it won't affect the chassis and the way it turns.
00:32:03
Speaker
That's my biggest fear. Yeah, okay. Because my fear is that it won't turn as well because the chassis now doesn't flex the way it should. you know maybe it's Maybe it's too stiff now.
00:32:14
Speaker
and Because I don't have like dampers, I can't control the stiffness and rebound of the springs. Yeah. so I'm just relying on the chassis to be essentially the spring itself.
00:32:27
Speaker
And by welding whole bunch of stuff and making it basically a giant cube, you know you are you're basically turning it ah like making the chassis a lot stiffer.
00:32:41
Speaker
So I'll be very interested to see how it is to drive like at full speed, if it's massively understeering or oversteering or what. But would I guess we'll just see.
00:32:52
Speaker
ah like I can't change it now. It's done. It's done. All right. Right. So I've tacked that all together, but I have not taken the body off to weld it all up properly.
00:33:05
Speaker
So that's the next probably goal for next week is to ah pull the body off, disassemble the whole entire go-kart, weld, grind all the joins, make sure they're nice, and then paint the whole frame in the one uniform color so it looks kind of professional.
00:33:25
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah, maybe it'll get approval. Well, you know, i don't think it's going to get approval. um But I'm pretty happy with the way it looks at the moment, like with the body.
00:33:39
Speaker
Now I've got the wing on the on the back. That's the biggest thing I've been doing the last couple of days is applying carbon fiber vinyl to the rear wing. looks pretty sick, have to say.
00:33:53
Speaker
I'm so happy with it. I'm so glad I did it yeah Part of me just wanted to paint it. I would have been pretty pissed off if I just did that. Yeah. so yeah, but vinyl, what a pain in the ass.
00:34:08
Speaker
Oh, my God. is so, like I'd watched a bunch of talk YouTube tutorials and it looked pretty easy. They're like, oh yeah, I just heat it up and then handle it like this and then you're all good.
00:34:24
Speaker
I'm like, no, that's not works. You heat it up and you'd have to do like inch by inch. Like maybe if you had a big giant panel you were doing it on and it's not super complex curves, like was watch what ah which is what I was doing.
00:34:40
Speaker
Some of these curves were like insane. It went sort of down and sideways and then in a concaved shape, right, through because the wing's sort of in a concave.
00:34:51
Speaker
I'm like, oh, my God. It took me think the the top wing took me probably easily six hours to to do from start to finish. It was insane.
00:35:05
Speaker
And then the rearway the bottom wing, because there's two wings to the rear assembly, yeah also took a long time. And then you know each time I was doing it, I was learning better techniques to try and get less air bubbles and and make sure there was little little amounts of defects in the work.

Frustrations with Google Support

00:35:25
Speaker
Yeah. in the work there oh It was very frustrating. But, I mean, I'm stoked. It looks so tough. Like, even just walked in before the this podcast started. I was like, opened the garage door. I'm like...
00:35:44
Speaker
Sick. but So things are coming. And, you know, I was at jujitsu today and ah a random guy, which I didn't know was following me. He's like, he just like, Hey dude, how's the car going?
00:35:58
Speaker
I was like, which, what car? Thinking that he doesn't follow me. He doesn't know what's really going on. And he's like, oh, no, the rally car, man, looks so sick. I was oh, yeah, it's going good. Thanks, man.
00:36:11
Speaker
Appreciate you following along. So it's you know it's nice to see that I'm kind of reaching a lot of people and people are paying attention to all the stupid amount of work I'm doing on this thing because it's a stupid amount of work. I mean, I've used, I know, three, four days now, like foiling the rear wing.
00:36:34
Speaker
Three or four days. Yeah. Because yeah not only that, you have to like you have to glue it together, of course, because it's all 3D printed parts. Then you have body fill all the parts, so all the joins are hidden and stuff like that.
00:36:51
Speaker
Just sand and sand and sand and sand. So that's two days there, pretty much. And then two days... trying to wrap it. It's just, it's a huge shop and a lot of wastage too.
00:37:06
Speaker
Like, cause I made a lot of mistakes and a lot of swearing. Yeah. I can imagine.
00:37:14
Speaker
um But yeah, I mean, that's it. Pretty much. I mean, the only other thing that's ah been happening is I've been getting the shits, Kieran.
00:37:28
Speaker
you mean What's giving you the shits today? just the Well, today, what's giving me the shit is Google email bots.
00:37:43
Speaker
Who does number two work for?
00:37:49
Speaker
So I've been chatting with Google for 16 emails. Right. right ah Back and forth about ah missing payment from Google Accents. So they sent some money to me to the wrong account because some for some reason my old account got defaulted automatically to something happened. they I don't know, some system reset or I don't know.
00:38:20
Speaker
I honestly don't know why they sent the money to that account because they haven't sent that money to that account for months and months. Right. So something happened in their system.
00:38:30
Speaker
They sent it the wrong account. It bounced, of course, because the account doesn't exist, and it was sent back to them. h But they didn't put it back in my account.
00:38:41
Speaker
So I'm missing 12,000 kroners. sure and That's a chunk of change. For me, that's a big chunk of change because, you know i've like we've discussed before, I got big credit card debts because I keep on spending money on stupid things on this car.
00:38:57
Speaker
it's a her So, yeah, I mean, I've been chatting back and forth. So, I first sent off the email, explained the situation, I had already spoken to the bank and they'd given me like a proof of like return or whatever.
00:39:15
Speaker
Yeah. And so I sent all the information to them and they're like, I get a chat bot reply, you know, hi, it's, you know, Laura here and blah, blah, blah, blah. blah blah blah And i was like, oh, this is clearly chat bot.
00:39:28
Speaker
ah And so I sent back a nice reply, of course, and blah, blah, you know, and I said, I don't think you understood what I meant. Here's what I mean. oh yeah, sure. I'll look into it again, she says.
00:39:43
Speaker
I get a reply back, oh, we've looked into it, everything seems in order. like, no, what do you everything seems in order? Please explain. And she's like, I don't have that. I'm like, ugh.
00:39:54
Speaker
Okay, so I wrote back. to her saying claiming that she was a chatbot and I was annoyed that she was a chatbot. Yeah. And they came back, hi it's Idris here taking over from Laura, um a human. he He called himself a human.
00:40:14
Speaker
Again, ah chatbot. was like It was exactly the same thing. Really? Yeah, was insane. So I've been going back and forth and back forth and back forth and forth. That will give me the shits too.
00:40:26
Speaker
So they have eventually, we've gotten to the point where they finally, I think, understand what I actually have, what problem I have after 16 emails. so i got a So I got a reply back saying
00:40:44
Speaker
Your case has been forwarded to a ah like a support client or so employ support somebody. you And this can take up to two to three weeks.
00:40:57
Speaker
Jesus Christ. So when you want a real human to actually look at something, actually takes two to three weeks because they fired every other cunt. ah I'm sorry people, but I had fired every other people, all the people that could answer the email and see what I actually use some logical sense to what I was saying. Like clearly I've got evidence that the transaction was returned to you guys on this date. Here's the bloody number, account, everything, the date, everything.
00:41:29
Speaker
Just please. put it back in my account so that you can pay me out later. This is why we don't have to worry about AI yet. I know, I said the same thing. I'm like, if they cannot understand what I'm saying, like the world's safe. I'm sorry, doomsday with AIs, you know don't worry about it.
00:41:50
Speaker
Because if Google can't use their own chatbot system to actually understand a very, very simple problem that I was presenting to them, o then don't worry about the AI apocalypse.
00:42:05
Speaker
you We're good. Yeah, exactly, right? hundred percent 100%.

Personal Reflections and Legends of the Week

00:42:11
Speaker
So, yes, well, you know what's giving me the shits this week, Justin?
00:42:16
Speaker
ah tell me. Absolutely nothing. Who does number two? I hate it when nothing gives you this shit. Yeah, I know. I've got nothing to swear or complain about. Life's pretty good at the moment.
00:42:38
Speaker
So, no shits for me this week. Boo, Karen. Boo. Boo. No chatbots? No chatbots.
00:42:49
Speaker
Nothing. But I've got i've got to my wife dancing, bum dancing around me the moment. I'm like, okay.
00:43:05
Speaker
She's just come in the door from her workout. I think yeah we might have to end this podcast here, Kieran. What do you think? I can only dream we'd have to end the podcast.
00:43:16
Speaker
No.
00:43:18
Speaker
no Well, you know what I was thinking about, Justin? We missed out last week. ah We started a segment before the holidays, summer holidays, with Legend of the Week.
00:43:31
Speaker
And I wanted to bring the Legend segment back. Yep. So we're bringing it back.
00:43:41
Speaker
Justin, who's your legend for this week? Jesus Christ. Anders Abrahamson. He came the garage couple of weeks back and sanded stuff.
00:43:52
Speaker
What an absolute legend. What a legend. Like, he didn't have to. Plus he delivered lawnmower. Yeah. Yeah. that might be using for possible hovercraft project in the future.
00:44:08
Speaker
Maybe, if it works. yeah I don't know. We'll wait and see. But, like, total legend. Like, didn't need to. You know I thought he was just coming over for like ah just a look-see and, you know, just to see what I was up to. Yeah.
00:44:25
Speaker
And he's like, oh, I brought my mask and, you know, I'm ready. I've got ah about an hour, hour and a half that can give you to do some sanding. Yeah. Legend.
00:44:36
Speaker
That's awesome. so you know, all the defects obviously here's on
00:44:45
Speaker
No, what a legend. like like There's not many people that would sit and sand my stupid rally car. and so thank you, Anders. You're a ledge.
00:44:56
Speaker
Anders, what a legend. Yep. Well, you know who my legend of the week is? Someone who actually listens to this podcast. His name is Ida. He the...
00:45:12
Speaker
the owner creator of u circus. And he also runs a podcast called Earl plot. um so beer circus and beer talk uh podcast um he is just a super nice guy he the other day he was listening to the podcast and i made mention the other week about my christmas beers and he just sent me like a voice memo saying hey uh listening to the podcast and you mentioned the
00:45:46
Speaker
the Christmas beers, make sure you include this and this and this and this with the wine monopoly, otherwise you'll run into trouble. I'm like, he didn't have to do that. What an absolute ledge. i mean like I mean, there was nothing he needed to worry about. like i i had control over it.
00:46:01
Speaker
But at the same time, the way he went out of his way. to to send me a voice memo about it. What a legend. Super nice guy. I met him briefly in person at the Gronendaka Beer Festival on Friday last week.
00:46:19
Speaker
And unfortunately, disappeared before I got to talk to him properly. and But yeah, absolute legend. So shout out to you and Edite.
00:46:31
Speaker
There you go What's blowing your mind, Karen?

Theories on Reality and History

00:46:35
Speaker
You know what's blown my mind this week? Non-materialism.
00:46:42
Speaker
Explain. This is a theory ah by Donald Hoffman, who's written a book called ah Case Against Reality, How Evolution Has Hidden the Truth From Our Eyes, which basically touches on the idea that all matter doesn't exist.
00:47:01
Speaker
Oh, you weren't there today. Yeah. it's the I mean, it raises more questions than answers. I can guarantee you that. But it's just the whole concept is fucking mind-blowing.
00:47:14
Speaker
So that's why it is blowing my mind this week.
00:47:20
Speaker
Well, I'm going to put in the blah. Oh, sorry, sorry, sorry. Oh, crap. The worst podcast host ever. oh
00:47:32
Speaker
Mind blown. If this kind of stuff does interest you on the off chance that it does interest you, probably the easiest way to kind of get into it is an episode of a Diary of a CEO podcast ah with Donald Hoffman talking.
00:47:51
Speaker
So check that out. I did start listening to that. I'm like, my brain's melting. i don't think I can handle this right now. I just need to listen to the thrash metal. Yeah, yeah, do that. yeah so it what's blowing your mind this week, Justin?
00:48:08
Speaker
Well, actually, it's a podcast as well. i listened to this guy called Michael Button, and he's a YouTuber as well. He does like yeah sort of ah mysteries of history kind of stuff, and he's he's sort of exploring a lot of the this the human evolution.
00:48:29
Speaker
So he's kind of exploring the fact that we're a lot older than we think, and there's possibly ah a intelligent version of ourselves much, much before we knew. was talking about the fact that years, no hope.
00:48:51
Speaker
nely if if every human died right now in one hundred thousand years there would be absolutely no nothing left that we existed on this planet earth.
00:49:05
Speaker
Even concrete buildings would be crumbling and gone. It would just be dust. Right. Yeah. Just there's, there's just the wilderness would take over. So the fact is we know that there's potential, we know that Neanderthals and the early humans are nearly 300,000 years old.
00:49:27
Speaker
So there is a possibility that there was like an intelligent, you know, human race before ours, which is wiped off this planet by a super volcano asteroid or, you know, some other things. so Justin, this sounds as a little bit like Scientology. Yeah.
00:49:50
Speaker
Does it? I don't even know about Scientology, Kieran. were aliens that came to planet Earth and and there was an atomic bomb lowered into a volcano and we were all killed and our souls were caught in electronic traps and then put into the bodies that we now have.
00:50:09
Speaker
That's not what I said at all, Kieran. That's basically what you said. No, that was not what I said at all. so You just wanted to bring up Scientology, weirdo.
00:50:23
Speaker
ah Well, you just mentioned like volcanoes and advanced civilization dying. I didn't say we were aliens. I said we were actually just were smart before. Like that's the theory, at least anyway.
00:50:39
Speaker
Fair enough. So smart that we killed ourselves. No, I mean natural disaster. i mean, you know, like can do you think, you know, we would survive if like a giant asteroid hit, you know, Earth? And do you think we would exist still? No, I don't think so.
00:50:58
Speaker
Maybe. well We've got our stupid cushy homes that we live in at the moment. We're just all obliterated. ah sir But the monkeys would survive.
00:51:12
Speaker
Maybe. yeah maybe. There you
00:51:17
Speaker
All right. Well, Justin, what is your recommendation for this week?

Recommendations and Family Encouragement

00:51:24
Speaker
My recommendation is actually, weirdly, something i think we may have recommended a long time ago, maybe when we first started this podcast. Repeat recommendation.
00:51:36
Speaker
But Chris and I started watching Ted Lasso again. Oh, yeah. great Great season show. They're doing another season, aren't they?
00:51:46
Speaker
Are they? No, surely not. Yeah. there's There's a third or fourth or whatever. There's new scene season coming. No, I don't believe it. I think it's lies. Okay. i'm just Because the ending of Ted Lasso was pretty definite.
00:52:02
Speaker
Yeah, that's what they said. Yeah. i I really liked it i and we started watching it again. Yeah. And I forgot how nice, how good it Oh, it's such a lovely, lovely show.
00:52:16
Speaker
so well written too. so if you have not seen Ted Lasso, like I highly, highly recommend it. It's so... Ted Lasso is the most lovable character you could ever have in a series.
00:52:31
Speaker
You just want him to to succeed because he's such an amazing human being. And I wish there was more human beings out there like that. But I would say there are a couple of human beings that are pretty special out there.
00:52:45
Speaker
And ah they're my patrons. but That was a brilliant segue just now. Did you like it? It was pretty good, right? Yes. Let's go. so i want to give a massive shout out to ah my sidekicks, John Roberson, Thomas Smith-Stud, and also ah Sylvester.
00:53:08
Speaker
And also there's one more. I forgot him. Jeez, who is it? ah God damn it.
00:53:18
Speaker
Anna. Anna. Yeah. And then I want to give a massive shout out to Thomas Buckner, Mark Foster, Thomas, oh, sorry, Jonas Kelms, Ulis Gitteren, Thomas Ungard,
00:53:33
Speaker
ah Angel, sorry. Arthur Midgard, Kieran White, the Swedish maker, Mark Jones, Anders Abrahamson, and Steen Seuss for also being Mad Dogs for supporting me as a hero tier.
00:53:49
Speaker
And everybody else that supports me on this show. ah Really appreciate you guys. um Two, I'm wearing... a bit of merch at the moment, my sick t t-shirt.
00:54:02
Speaker
Someone stopped me the other day when I was wearing it and they go, hey, dude, that's a sick t-shirt. I was like, yeah, no. So ah I'm pretty happy with how the graphic turned out.
00:54:17
Speaker
yes So if you want to buy and support me in this merch. Buy some Garage Avenger merch. Yeah, that'd be great.
00:54:28
Speaker
um Just as a side note, Justin, I'm reading on Wikipedia here that in March 2025, it was announced that this that there will be a fourth season of Ted Lasso.
00:54:40
Speaker
Get out of town. Yes. um So you have something to look forward to, I'm imagining, next year. Oh, God. Now I have to make sure I keep my buddy subscription to Apple TV.
00:54:52
Speaker
Or just pause it and then renew it when you know comes out. Yeah, but I guess Silo has to come out soon too, right? Yeah, that that should be coming out probably in the next few weeks or a month or so.
00:55:06
Speaker
Really? can't wait. It normally comes just after the summer. ah Looking forward to that. um We're just dribbling, so we might just wrap it up there. No, I'm going give my recommendation.
00:55:18
Speaker
but i don't i don't want to hear it. tell me, tell me, Joe. What's your recommendation? my recommendation, and get out and do something physical with your kids.
00:55:31
Speaker
That's my recommendation, ah especially now that the the winter weather, at least in this part of the world, is closing in. and get out and do something. We've, we've been the last two days. We've taken the kids out bikes and just basically just rode around in the streets together.
00:55:50
Speaker
And the kids have just had a ball. Absolutely love it. So really? So what? I mean, not the kids, but maybe me. ah But yeah, and just they just love getting out and writing with us and it's been super great to see how they've enjoyed it. And Mackenzie's writing skills have accelerated.
00:56:12
Speaker
so much since we've started doing this stuff. sorry So really great. So was my recommendation? If you end up getting out with your kids on a regular basis, maybe think about doing that because it's worked pretty well for us. so I'm going to jump in on that.
00:56:29
Speaker
I would recommend that you don't teach your kids how to do backflips, especially when you don't know how to do one yourself on the trampoline. Okay. I watched a today axe himself on his, like, land directly on his neck.
00:56:46
Speaker
And I was like, oh. I was like, how about we just take it easy now, boys? Like, we don't need to to hurt ourselves. this kid is like I don't feel so good I feel sick oh shit yes so yeah ah thanks everyone for listening appreciate you guys and ah I guess we'll keep you up to date with what's happening next week yeah awesome does that the keys drop you're like that's the hell end of the podcast now just dropping your keys
00:57:25
Speaker
well Yeah, I was yawning massively then. I don't know why. Like, it's, yeah, nine o'clock. i was just, yeah, I'm dribbling. Let's go, Karen. Jesus Christ. you, guys. Bye. See you. Bye.
00:57:39
Speaker
Auf Wiedersehen. Bye.
