Today we will hear about Naomi, Ruth, and Boaz. Parents, keep talking with your kids using these prompts:

*Ages 2-4: Ruth worked hard to pick up grain in the field. Have a challenge to see how fast you can pick up your toys! (or, how many sticks/rocks/leaves can you pick up in one minute) Ask, “who takes care of you?”

*Ages 5-9: God took care of Ruth and Naomi even when they were going through hard times. Can you think of a time when God helped you through a hard time?

One last thing!  This week, Miss Hannah asked you, " Who did God put in your life to help you?”.  Send in your kid's answer by texting a voice memo to 636-280-5433 and they could be featured in next week's episode!  *By sending in a voice memo, you’re providing consent for your minor’s voice to be on the podcast*

00:00:32

Here's what you told us. God made me special by giving me voice to sing. God makes me special by making me a really good drawer.
00:00:44

God made me special because he loves me all the time. Wow, friends, I am so glad you shared that with us because you are special. I'm so glad God made you.

Kindness: Fun Facts and Benefits

00:00:56
Speaker
Well, today we get to hear some fun facts about kindness. Let's hear from a super smart kid with some fun facts.
00:01:07
Speaker
It's time for some fun facts. My name is Drew and I am six years old. Being kind to others helps us be happier. Kindness is contagious.
00:01:18
Speaker
Seeing others be kind makes you want to show kindness too. Scientists have discovered that being kind to others makes you live longer. Amazing! Not only is kindness something that God wants us to share with others, it sounds like it's actually good for us too. How cool!

The Story of Ruth and Naomi

00:01:37
Speaker
Today's story is going to include someone who showed great kindness to others. Friends, I have been baking a lot lately. Do any of you like to bake? I've been making breads and rolls and pancakes and lots of things that require flour.
00:01:55
Speaker
Did you know flour comes from wheat and wheat grows on a stalk in fields? I bet some of you have driven past a field of wheat before and seen all those beautiful stalks maybe flowing in the wind.
00:02:09
Speaker
Well, the Bible story today includes barley. Both barley and wheat are grains and they look like tall grass growing in fields. Back in the Bible times, barley was such an important thing to grow because when you grow barley, then you can harvest it and you can grind it down to make flour.
00:02:30
Speaker
That flour would help you make bread. It would feed your family and feed your animals. So it was pretty important to have some barley. Well, today's story includes two women and Barley.
00:02:42
Speaker
These two women were named Ruth and Naomi. Can you say their names with me? Ruth and Naomi. Well, these women loved and trusted God, but they were going through a hard time.
00:02:56
Speaker
You see, Ruth and Naomi were very poor. They did not have any money to buy food to eat, and they didn't have any land of their own to grow food. So Ruth said to Naomi,
00:03:08
Speaker
I'm going to a field nearby. I'm going to pick up some leftover grain that the workers leave, and I'm going to work hard to gather enough so we can make bread and we can eat. So Ruth went to a field nearby. It was a barley field, and she worked hard every single day.
00:03:26
Speaker
She walked behind the people who were harvesting the grain and she picked up all the leftovers she could find. And I bet she would be really tired in the evenings. Do you ever feel really tired after picking up your toys?
00:03:38
Speaker
Can you imagine doing it all day long? Well, Ruth, every single day, all day long, would go out to this field, pick up this leftover grain to make sure she had enough to make some bread for her and Naomi.

Boaz's Kindness and New Beginnings

00:03:53
Speaker
That is so kind. She used all that time and energy to be sure she could take care of them. Well, Ruth didn't know it at first, but she had been picking in a field that belonged to a rich man named Boaz.
00:04:07
Speaker
Everyone say Boaz. When he saw Ruth working in his field, he said to one of his workers, who's that young woman over there? Why she picking up the leftovers? One of the workers replied to Boaz, "'Oh, that is Ruth.
00:04:21
Speaker
"'She came with Naomi from another land "'and asked if she could have some of our leftovers. "'We see her working hard every day.' Boaz responded, "'Let her take all that she needs.' Boaz told his workers to be kind to Ruth and to let her take all the barley that she needed.
00:04:40
Speaker
"'That was very kind of him. "'He was sharing from his field "'to be sure that Ruth and Naomi had enough to eat.' Naomi was so grateful for Boaz's help, and she knew that because Boaz was a rich, important, and kind man, he might be willing to help their family even more.
00:04:58
Speaker
And in fact, he did! a little while later in the story, Boaz married Ruth. They had a baby, and they started a new family. Now, because God is good, and he wanted good things to happen for Naomi and Ruth,
00:05:14
Speaker
God used Boaz to take care of them. Through Boaz, God gave Ruth and Naomi food and a home and a new family.

Moral and Discussion Encouragement

00:05:25
Speaker
You see, God can use people in our lives to take care of us. We can trust God. God is good. He wants good things for you. And he sends people to your life to take care of you.
00:05:40
Speaker
So let's get to the point. Boaz and Ruth were kind to others. It makes God happy when I am kind too. You can be kind to others, just like Boaz was kind to Ruth and Ruth was kind to Naomi.
00:05:53
Speaker
God can use you to be kind and provide for others. And God has sent people to you in your life to take care of you. So here's what you could talk about with your family this week. Who did God put in your life to help you?
00:06:09
Speaker
Make sure you tell us what you talked about. We would love to hear from you and put you on next week's podcast. Record your answer as a voice memo and send it in a text message to the number 636-280-5433. We'd love to feature
