And you know, I try to I try to buy the the nice ones, not the crappy marble or the the camels. I try to buy the higher quality so that the people around me aren't bothered by the the the smoke, you know, and I'm trying to cut it back for real.

Social Outings and Upcoming Plans

00:00:57
Speaker
yeah but it's okay we we shall get through this we will this too shall pass this too shall pass um well other than being sick how was your week it was all right um uh uh we are getting a new person at work which yay on one hand and like boo on another because um The girl who usually teaches the new hire, she's out on maternity leave. And I just hope that the the the teaching does not fall to me. That's all. That would suck. That would suck. So I already got a lot going on. um So yeah. i We did ah go out. We went out and had brunch.
00:01:52
Speaker
really good and then Kelly ditch does I know I'm so sorry the the my brother had tickets very last minute um and and we went to a Giants game but something did happen on Sunday that does not happen um I beat Jordan somewhere she did but it was my mother's fault You can't blame me. I cannot hold it against you. Um, and I don't know if I can count it as a real win on my part. Yeah. Um, how I was like, what, 20 minutes early. ah Yeah. And I'm not even usually 20 minutes early anywhere. No. Um, so yeah, that was a big win on my part. I did have to wait a little bit, but it was fine. It was a really nice day out in the city.
00:02:44
Speaker
It was, it was like a really nice day. Yeah. Yeah. So it was really nice. Um, that drink that we did talk about last time, Jordan did get, I got two of them, got two of them. Yeah. they because Kelly would, Kelly wouldn't let me live my best life and get more, but you know, cause it was already, that was six shots. That was six shots. I did not want to find out what nine shots did. I would have been fine. She's so overdramatic. I wasn't even tipsy off of them little six shots they put in a big glass. I was perfectly fine. And you know what? that that um That second glass was a lot bigger than the first. It was. It was a lot bigger. So it might have been around maybe seven at that point. I was fine. Kelly was just being a little
00:03:36
Speaker
I was being a little baby, whatever. baby Also,

Work-from-Home Day and Six Flags Experience

00:03:40
Speaker
y'all know I don't like mimosas, but I was thinking of ordering a picture of mimosa. She wouldn't let me do that either. No, because he was gonna have the shots and then you have a picture of that too. Oh my gosh. Just boring. Whatever. Kelly, it's just boring. I am not. And I've been warning Kelly for about a month now. the day of that concert, I'm getting hammered, hammered. I know, I know. When I touch, when I touch down, it's on, even though it's going to be like 10 o'clock in the morning. I don't care. Jordan, Jordan's ready to get down and he is ready to get down. Yep. Yep.
00:04:32
Speaker
Yeah, so the other than being sick, which is sucked, by the way, I've been sick since I've been sick for a week now. Officially. Gross. Yeah, gross. So I got to get better no matter what. Yeah, she does. She needs to go get a cortisol shot or something. I don't care. She better be ready for this concert. Oh, I know. I'm doing my best, man. I'm doing my best. Because we're going to go to this concert. And then, I don't know what we're gonna do. maybe Maybe we'll go on a bar crawl one day. Who knows? Who knows? I mean, I did just get a video on TikTok of all of the um the places in downtown Phoenix that, and like when their happy hours are. See, it's destined. And then we can go spend a day at a hotel, get a resort pass, go hang out at a hotel pool all day. Like, yeah.
00:05:31
Speaker
all right all right we're gonna figure it out i am gonna take a max throwing though i do wanna it's summer i want to be outside yeah i mean one i don't know if you want to be outside in this heat but no no i'm not like actually outside like theoretically theoretically theoretically outside i'm gonna bring the vibe of the outside inside inside understand a lot Yeah, out here I'll be outside and have been outside, but out there I want to be either in a pool or in inside. I mean, to be fair though, we do have a Hurricane Harbor in Phoenix, so... Ooh, I have a season pass. We can literally go. Oh my gosh, you i you do. You do. you just You just activated it. Just activated it. Okay, that's another idea. Great. yeah Check that off the list.
00:06:25
Speaker
Um, anything else? Not really. Uh, what's up with you? Um, not much at work. They gave us an extra work from home day. I love it for you. So now I only have to go to the office two days a week. It's been great. Let's get that down to zero. I i hate having to go into the office. Let's get this fully remote. let's get Yeah. Let's make, let's make this job a fully remote job. Why not? There's honestly no reason for me to be in the office. There quite literally is no reason. So let's just cut up the middleman and just all work for them. Yeah, just full send it guys. Yeah. Thank you. And then, um, last weekend I went to Six Flags for the first time in years, quite literally years have not been there probably since college.
00:07:22
Speaker
in like the early part of college, like maybe freshman, sophomore year of college.
00:07:28
Speaker
um Wait, didn't we go? When? I don't think I've ever gone with you outside of like maybe high school. Oh, no, that's, um what's it called? Actually, no, I don't think I ever went to Six Flags with you. We've never been to Six Flags together, but what's the place down in our LA? Magic Mountain? Magic Mountain, my bad. That's what I was thinking. That is a six flags, but like... Yeah, but it's not six flags. And good reason for that. um yeah The six flags out here might be the worst six flags in America. Yeah, yeah. I've been been once. We went and it was more awful than I remember it being. And I didn't think that was possible. So like...
00:08:16
Speaker
We got there super late. That's a whole nother thing

Discussion of 'Robots' Movie Themes

00:08:20
Speaker
that I just don't want to talk about right now. And why was everything closed? Like almost everything was closed. Or shut down like.
00:08:37
Speaker
It was insane. And then rides that I remember being there, like when I went last time, aren't there anymore. And they already didn't have that many rides and they just took more rides away. Yeah. They have a roller coaster that's been sitting there vacant, like has not moved in years. Which one? Um, the one across from Medusa to like Orange-ish one. Yeah. I don't think I've seen that roller coaster run in years. It just sits there. Yeah. Yeah. No, I don't remember that ever being on when I was there.
00:09:12
Speaker
It's quite literally nauseating. Like we were there and I was just like, what are we doing here? And I and i told them, I was like, yeah, we rode two rides. like We only rode two rides. Yeah. That mostly had to do with the fact that we were so fucking late, but we only rode two rides. Because even if we were there earlier, there wasn't much to ride. Yeah, so ah it wouldn't have mattered. It wouldn't have mattered.
00:09:43
Speaker
So yeah, everyone needs to know Six Flags Discovery Kingdom is the worst Six Flags in all of America. And so I will be using my season pass just maybe once or twice this summer, drive down to LA, have a long weekend and go to Magic Mountain because I will not be going back to Discovery Kingdom. Yeah, no. Thanks. That's all I had to say. Yeah, this has been a PSA. that's been a PSA. Actually, let's just go ahead and close six flags. Let's, let's just bite the bullet and close it down. Or do just a full overall. Yeah, they really want to keep it. Yeah, shut it down for a year. Rip everything out. Start from scratch. Yeah, because it's quite literally awful. Because I remember those, um the Six Flags of commercials going hard, you know, when it was like in its peak.
00:10:43
Speaker
It, I think that ever since they changed it from marine world to Discovery Kingdom, it's been awful. Hmm. Yeah. For the people who are not from the Bay Area, I don't know anything. Our Six Flags used to be called Six Flags Marine World. Marine World, yeah. I knew it as Marine World. And as a kid, that was my favorite place to go. Loved it. Great shows, great rides, great atmosphere, everything. And then I think maybe when I was like in middle school, they changed it to Six Flags Discovery Kingdom. yeah And then they added like animals in the back who look all sad because they're in the smallest fucking areas possible. And I'm just like, do these animals like being here? Absolutely not. Like first off, these enclosures are super small.
00:11:39
Speaker
There's literally screaming going on all day, every day from all the rollercoasters. Right. It's stressful. I was like, why are these animals here? Right. And then they had like, they don't have the whale shows anymore, oh which is another separate topic. separate so um But, um, yeah. And then they had like whale shows and dolphin shows and sea lion shows and a whole bunch of crap.
00:12:08
Speaker
And it's just a mess. They really just need to get rid of it. It's time for it to go. Yeah, because there was a couple years there where they just added rides every other year. I remember that. Yeah, they had a good run. They really did. But let's call it quit. It might be it, guys. Sorry. I'm so sorry. Give the money to keep Great America open longer. Oh, yeah. I love Great America. Because Great America is supposed to be closing within the next eight years or something and they're gonna build like apartments or something there? Yeah. Let's not do that. Let's keep Great America. Thanks. Thank you. Great America is the superior park. It is. It actually is though. And if they close Great America I'm not going to the Six Flags out here so there will be no theme park for me to go to. Right. Unless you're willing to trek down to LA. Yeah, I'll have to just trek down to go to Magic Mountain. Right. Which I'm not opposed to but
00:13:10
Speaker
I would like something closer. Right. Cause like Six Flags ruins everything. They also bought our water world out here. And it sucks. And it sucks now. Yeah, they bought water world. Sabrina and I went a couple of years ago and it sucked. And also while I was in the changing room, I saw a fucking roach on the floor. Not the roaches. Yes. Not the roaches.
00:13:40
Speaker
And that's why I go to Raging Waters now, which is not a thing anymore. Like, Raging Waters closed. Yeah, it's not. It's just sitting there now. Why do they keep closing all the good stuff? I don't know. And you know what's sad? I never went. Oh, it's really good. That whole time I lived there and I lived 25 minutes away. I've been to both Raging Waters. Not really. I've been to the one in San Jose and then the one in Sacramento. I prefer the one in San Jose. But yeah. It's just been a mess. I don't know what's going on out here. Something needs to be done. Yeah. But yeah, that's it for me. Oh, also me and one of our friends went shopping today. It was very it was very advantageous because literally she texted me while I was laying in bed.
00:14:36
Speaker
And she was like, do you still need to go shopping for this concert? Cause I need to return something to Uniqlo. And I literally needed to return some stuff to Uniqlo. I was like, absolutely. Absolutely. I literally put OMG, I love you. I need to return some stuff to Uniqlo. It was great. So I love that for you. I just picked her up. We returned some stuff to Uniqlo. We went over to H and M bought some stuff and then went home. It was great.
00:15:06
Speaker
But yeah, that's my week. Yay. Okay, Kelly, you go ahead and you tell us about our movie this week. Okay, so this week we are talking about robots.
00:15:22
Speaker
And we start this movie in Rivet Town, where Herb Copperbottom celebrates to the town that he is about to have a kid. When he gets home, he finds out that he has missed the delivery, but his wife um tells him that making the baby is the fun part. Making the baby is the fun part. um They spend 12 hours putting the baby together. And when he finally comes alive, they notice that a part is missing, but they don't seem too worried. They're like, oh, yeah, let's just let's just knock that on there. They just throw on his implied penis. Yes. Knock it on. Yeah. After the fact. After the fact. After he's already awake and everything. We then get a montage of Rodney growing up.
00:16:14
Speaker
And one day, ah Herb takes Rodney to a parade that's happening in town, and he tells him about Big Weld, who is a great inventor who loves others. And Rodney becomes obsessed. This is also when I started questioning the whole, like, universe of this movie. I was like, if these robots have to be created, who created the robots? Yeah. Yeah. This is the, this is the chicken and the egg. The chicken and the egg dilemma. hello I was like, wait. Where did the, where did that first part come from? Where did that first robot come from? Great. Did they exist beforehand? Did someone create the first robot? This is like a big bang. right like Right. The big bang happened instead of like us. It was robots. Right.
00:17:12
Speaker
is this Is this a weird take on evolution? yeah Because animals are also metal. is there Is there a God? Right. Is there some Robo God out there? Is this a watchmaker theory? yeah
00:17:28
Speaker
Yeah. that it's just And then on top of that, we do see robots getting old. but they just replace their parts. So do robots die? Yeah, I had a question about that later, but I guess I'll just ask it now. yeah Could they theoretically live forever? Yeah, could they do it they could. And at that point, since we're jumping ahead a little bit, but with Ratchet's Hole changing you know the the the whole style, could you technically become somebody else on top of that? I guess.
00:18:07
Speaker
And if you have to like replace every part of your body, how... Are you you? Are you you? This is the Ship of Theseus! ah This is literally the Ship of Theseus. Is it still the Ship of Theseus if the wood has been replaced? I guess we'll never know. And then if the robot does die, and is there is there a heaven or hell? Is there a junkyard? and i And I also see, also going a little ahead, that you're using the like outdated robots to make new parts. That's a little weird. right That's like me going around to dead people and like putting their skin on top of my skin. three like It's really, really weird. Yeah, and it's not ah it's not a
00:19:00
Speaker
Or donor type B either. No. It's not willingly given. No, these people are literally dragged off of the street and then put into like yeah a machine where they're melted down. Melted down. And then a new new part part is made.
00:19:21
Speaker
And then technically, would that part be sentient because it was part of a living being?
00:19:28
Speaker
Who knows at this point? This is like the whole cars thing. Oh don't get me started with cars. There's a car there's a car pope so technically there's a car Jesus. There's a car Jesus somewhere. Oh thank god they didn't like show that they had religion in this world. Yeah we we would we would be having a field day with that. Um and so Rodney is obsessed with Big Weld. He is then introduced to his father's job of being a dishwasher at a local diner. And one night after watching an inspiring speech from Big Weld about being an inventor and seeing a need, filling a need, ah he starts to invent a robot to help his dad.
00:20:17
Speaker
because he works so hard as a dishwasher. Like he has to bring work home for some reason. I don't i don't know how that works i't know how that works. You see Rodney graduating from high school and he is starting to help his dad out at the diner. And one day he shows his dad, Wonderbot, who he's been inventing over the years. um After seeing how much his dad has been beaten up, he's using duct tape to hold himself together. It's kind of sad. um So Wonderbot speeds up the process of cleaning the dishes and everything and he's doing a great job until their boss, Mr. Gunck, shows up and scares Wonderbot and he just breaks everything in the diner. And Mr. Gunck tells Rodney that it's him and his father's responsibility to pay him back for everything that was broken. I have a question about this, like, robot he created.
00:21:15
Speaker
Is this not a form of slavery? Because he was made specifically sort to fill a job need. To fill a job need. Or at the very minimum, like classism. Like some weird form of classism or social hierarchy. Because he made a robot whose sole purpose is to clean dishes.
00:21:42
Speaker
And that doesn't even get paid for this. hmm you know i'm leaning towards slavery okay only because there are tools in this world that are not alive but this thing is alive he like understands when he talks to it i know and so and i feel like he was created with the specific thing to to work. So I think that's more slavery than because, you know, they they have the the dishwasher applique that Herb wears. That's not alive. So technically, I guess he could have made something that wasn't alive to help. He could have and should have, yes. So that's what I'm saying. I think it's more slavery. Oh, that sucks. Because he's created to work. Oh, well, that's sad.
00:22:38
Speaker
um After being ah talked down to by Mr. Gunk, ah Rodney goes to the train station because he's had enough and he he needs to go to Robot City to start making some real money to help his dad pay back the the money that he owes Mr. Gunk for the mistake that he made. His mom wants him to stay and but or or buys him a ticket and he's like, I didn't get to follow my dream, so I'm giving you the opportunity to to chase yours. And so Rodney gets on the train and arrives in Robot City. And after going through the the tough crowds, he is eventually pointed in the direction of Big Weld Industries. Rodney then gets put into a metal transport ball with Fender, and they are thrown about the city with other commuters.
00:23:36
Speaker
ah Ronnie then makes it to Big Weld as a fender gets punted across the city pia by hammer. yeah And as he gets to Big Weld industry, he notices that the gate is closed. And when he was little, um he there was a big show of saying like the gate is never closed to anybody. And so he goes to the guy manning the gate to him, and he makes a whole deal about playing about letting him in or not. So, Ronnie gets, uh, closed out twice and just, he's like told to give up on it. I'm gonna throw something at his head. Like, sure, close the door on me the first time. Right. Funny. ha Great. The second time? Absolutely not. Oh, I would have
00:24:34
Speaker
climbed up there and beat us out. Oh, and Tim is having a great time, by the way, doing this. He's laughing. But Tim tells Rodney that they don't hire new inventors anymore. And when we go inside, we see that Big World doesn't even work at the company anymore. It is now headed by Ratchet, and he has a new vision of changing from serving the common people to making more money. by forcing everybody to do an upgrade. They are not going to be producing any more replacement parts. They are now forcing everyone to upgrade, whether they have the money for it or not. Which is hilarious, because like if they don't have the money for it, they can't do it. that You're not making any. i talk I also talk about this later, but let's just bring it up now. I fail to see how you're going to make more money with upgrades as opposed to parts. Right.
00:25:28
Speaker
Look, parts you have to continuously replace and upgrade. How many years could someone go before they need another upgrade? It just makes more sense to be more invested in parts and upgrades. And if, let's say, I'm just going to throw a number out there, 60% of your consumer base is older robots, then that's going to be 60% of your your income. of the money that you bring in. That's going to be from parts. And then if you really want to make more money, you be Apple and you create kind of faulty replacement parts that break a little sooner. I mean, don't do that. Don't do that. No, that's that's that sucks. This is not business advice.
00:26:20
Speaker
um Yeah, the fact that, you know, he later says that this company is more lucrative now that they've cut out the em the replacement parts, I'm like, I don't think so. I don't think so. I really don't think so. I don't think so. Ratchet's backing the books. Something has to be happening. The math is not mapping to me. It's not. It's not.

Climax and Conclusion of 'Robots'

00:26:42
Speaker
um And Arani tries to sneak in as Cappy, one of the um people in the boardroom, tries to fight
00:26:54
Speaker
um the idea of not making any more replacement parts. While this is happening, Rodney drops in and tries to pitch his idea to Ratchet about Wonderbot that is forcefully removed from the building. Rodney isn't like super magnetized and is followed around by and and picks up loose items around the city oh before he ends up in the lower part of the city where scrap is piled. We see that scrap is picked up by sweepers and they are brought down to the chop shop where they are chopped and melted down. The woman running the factory is Ratchet's mother and it was her idea
00:27:39
Speaker
to push for upgrades so that she could sweep up all the out modes and I guess create generate more business for herself. I'm not sure. See, that's the only reason that's the only thing that would make sense yeah for this plan because the whole make more money plan, it doesn't make any sense.
00:28:01
Speaker
So this has to be his mother tricking him into doing this so that she could have more business. right Because the company is not going to make more money yeah if most of the people are being swept up and melted down. So this is this is her business plan. This is her business plan. Yeah. She's playing him. Absolutely. A thousand percent. And the fact that he's going along with it. Yeah.
00:28:33
Speaker
What if it has mommy issues? Please seek therapy.
00:28:39
Speaker
I love how he's simultaneously listening to every word his mother says and at the same time disgusted by her. Yeah. That's one of the issues for you. Yeah. So Gasket, his ratchet's mom, ah tells him that he then after pushing the upgrades needs to also take out Big Weld. so that the out modes, which that's what they call them the out models, don't rise up against the the changes. Because if Big Wealth is still around, there's still a hope that he can come back and change the business model and bring back the replacement parts.
00:29:21
Speaker
We then see Rodney is welcomed up by Fender, who is trying to steal his foot for some reason. And he chases after him. He's able to get his foot back after Fender breaks his neck and and it falls off his body. His scavenger friends then find his head and his body eventually follows. And we meet Fender's group and his sister Piper, who has found Wonderbot in a trash can. um We then see Rodney join up with the rest of his group to get,
00:29:58
Speaker
um to try and find his way back. And Piper, ah initially he wants to fight Rodney because she broke Fender. But he's like, dude, he broke his own neck. like i He stole my foot. This was self-defense. But we're like, it's on site. Piper really is a right or die. She really said. um But she understands and she gives Wonderbot back as the group heads to a local hardware store to see if they can find a part to fix Fender. When they get there, the guy running the shop tells them that he doesn't have any replacement parts for Fender. Big Wealth Industries has stopped doing that and the only way to to be fixed is by upgrading. But Fender doesn't have the money.
00:30:46
Speaker
Rodney then comes in after the group looking for parts for Wonderbot, I think. And he's like, I can fix him if you have like some other spare things. i I don't know how that works. um be it But he's like, I can fix you. like Don't worry about it. So while he's fixing Fender, Rodney learns that Big World has been missing. um when a sweeper comes by and they all hide and they explain to him that sweepers go through the the streets hunting for out modes and taking them to the chop shop.
00:31:22
Speaker
Fender then mocks the sweeper and after he hurts his back the group has to to run away from the sweeper as it starts to like slowly chase them. Ronnie is then but brought back to their place and he meets Aunt Fanny and the name is very appropriate, nothing um who is happy to take him in and he bunks with Fender.
00:31:49
Speaker
That night Rodney misses his parents and to lighten the mood Fender tries to do some armpit farting, but it's not working. I don't know why that was his like avenue of making him feel better. How would he even armpit for it? I guess that's the thing. That's the thing. He's made out of metal but he's still able to do it. and Insane. um But he is so discouraged um by the whole thing because like he doesn't want to have to tell his dad that he failed him and he's not able to do anything and he doesn't want to go home empty-handed.
00:32:28
Speaker
But at least, he's like, at least I have a friend here. And Fender is so touched by that. um And so Redney starts to arm fart with him, and then the whole house turns in. And Aunt Fanny actually farts and kills the outside light pole. He's actually dead. Yeah, because she has such a gigantic bite. Yes. this' the whole That's the whole thing. So the next day, Rodney wants to find Big Weld, but the group doesn't want to. they don't They don't really care. Until they see a big mob congregating outside, and they follow them to the hardware store, where they're trying to protest the upgrades that are coming in. Someone in the crowd then recognizes Rodney, and you know the hardware guy's like, oh yeah, go to him. He's the one that fixed vendor. He can probably fix y'all.
00:33:26
Speaker
Can't get out of my shot. Get out of my shot. Can't get away from me. And so they all rush over to him and then he gets immediately overwhelmed. But he is a big fan of Big Weld and he's like, see you need, fix the need, see you need, fill a need. And so he starts fixing the robots with whatever he has. He then sends a letter home telling his parents about the work that he's doing. And he is immediately praised for his work. The word of Rodney fixing the robots on the street reaches Ratchet through Gasket who has come to see him. And she wants the whole thing taken care of. She's like, you got to get him off the streets because if he starts fixing people, then they're going to not upgrade. So Rodney and the group are taking a break from fixing people and they find that the line of robots hasn't gone down.
00:34:15
Speaker
And at the same time, a letter comes from his mom saying that his father isn't doing well. Like he's sick or quote, unquote, dying. I guess it sounds like he's dying by the way that she's like talking about it. And at one point there's like a doctor. Is he a mechanic or a doctor at that point?
00:34:42
Speaker
um But yeah, it's implied that he's maybe dying. um And he is more than convinced that he needs to find Big Weld at that point, because he's like, I can only do so much. Big Weld can do a lot more than me. So Wonderbot then suggests them going to the Big Weld Ball. And Rodney wants to go. So Rodney and Fender sneak into the ball pretending to be some kind of royalty. And we find that Tim has a BDSM kink. Yeah, I didn't need to know that. Didn't need to know that, but he wanted to be slapped around. That little man is into some stuff.
00:35:26
Speaker
Ratchet. Oh, sorry. So as they get into the ball, the two figure out a signal call to, like, get one another's attention because they're going to separate and find Big Well. And we see Ratchet trying to hit on Cappy as Fender meets Loretta. And I love how she sees his outfit and he's she's like, he's dressed like that, he's rich. I'm falling in love with this man. He's an executive billionaire. Yeah, exactly, of course, duh.
00:35:59
Speaker
No one else would willingly come out of the house looking at you. Right, unless you had a lot of money. Yeah. Which for some people, that is actually true. so Yeah, it's the Mark Zuckerberg effect. Yes, it is. Yes, it is. You have your Mark Zuckerberg and then you have your Adam Sandler's.
00:36:19
Speaker
um When Ratchet goes on stage to welcome Big Weld, he actually announces that Big Weld isn't coming, which sets Rodney off and he makes a whole scene um like asking everybody, like why aren't y'all concerned about where Big Weld is? like This man is technically your boss and the founder of this company. um And he's sitting here trying to preach to rich people. No, seriously. They don't care. They don't care. They're just here to drink some champagne and go home. like i don' They literally don't do nothing. No.
00:36:57
Speaker
I mean, he admits that he's the one who's been fixing them and he's slowly taking off his like princely, I guess, attire that he put on. Rodney is then taken up by security and when he tries to call for Fender, he doesn't hear him. So Cappy steps in and is trying to help him out, but Ratchet is like suspicious and when she starts rushing him out, Fender tries to stop her, but she's like, I'm trying to help you guys, please. um And they are all successfully gotten out of the the ball.
00:37:38
Speaker
We then see Cappy and in her car, quote unquote, I don't know what to call that. um with with Rodney and she wants to take him to the train station to make him go home, but he convinces her to take him to Big Weld instead. Fender then walks Loretta home and he's clearly in love, but while he's like dancing around celebrating, he is caught up by a sweeper. Yeah, it's a cute little singing in the rain parody. Very cute, we love it.
00:38:15
Speaker
At Big Willed's house, no one is answering and it doesn't look like anyone has left the house in months because of the stacked up papers. And there was already a paper out talking about Rodney and his disturbance at the Big Love Ball. They work fast. They do work fast. So it works hard, but the press works harder. it work The press works harder.
00:38:39
Speaker
But Rodney's able to get the door open, and they and the three of them go inside. Wunderbaud is also there. They eventually end up in his study, and Rodney accidentally sets off the string of dominoes that he remembers seeing from the television program that he watched when he was a kid. And it sets off this huge line that depicts Big Weld, and then eventually some, I don't know how big, but some huge domino sets off the others and creates some big waves and Big Weld is there riding on a big domino like a so a surfboard. How long do you think it took him to set this up? Oh, um, months, probably. Rich people have too much time on their hands. No, seriously, because how many domino, like, I understand that they don't have to eat. I know they do eat in this world, but like, he could technically take
00:39:36
Speaker
24 hours a day to set this up. That's insane. And what and where did he get all these dominoes? Where did he get all these dominoes? Who creates that many dominoes? Are robots really into dominoes or something? I guess. Someone let us know. Someone let us know. Who was the domino? um Producer in this world in this world and all are y'all into dominoes. Yeah Y'all not a card community Probably not probably not it so takes it takes away from the oil So big weld is too busy with his dominoes like immediately after it's knocked down he's like let's set him up again Let's let's get this going
00:40:32
Speaker
Um, but Rodney's like, wait, whoa, I got to talk to you about something. Like they're not doing replacement parts anymore out there. Like people are suffering. And big world's like, you come into my house, you start talking to me about this stuff. Just shut up, shut up and quit. Like I've been replaced at my own company. I am technically an out mode myself now. I can't do anything. Ratchet owns that company now. Like I can't do anything. Such a loser. Such a loser. Big time loser behavior. Like how are you going to let someone come in and take over your company? Yeah. Someone off the street even like not even like someone who like you started this company with just someone off of the street. How are you going to let them come in and take your company?
00:41:27
Speaker
right like was this ah a phase out or was this a full-on hey let me just hand me the company yeah and did you even attempt to fight back right where was the public outcry campaign yeah like you your company is named after you yeah like people aren't gonna be okay with you just being like Yeah, this guy that either has been working for me for like two years or whatever, or that I've just met came up with this great idea where I retire. Yeah. Like I don't, I don't, who approved this? Was he, was he outvoted at a board meeting or or what? ah Who knows? But I guess he didn't care. So why should we? Yeah. Defeat his attitude.
00:42:21
Speaker
So after that defeatist attitude, Kathy and Rodney leave and Fender is brought to the job shop where he then sees Racha in his mother gasket. As he presents her with the new sweepers he made specifically for her. um to go after the out modes and Rodney. I don't know how quickly he slapped this together because he was just out of all. They seemingly can just do anything they want instantaneously in this world. No, seriously, that industry business is actually insane. Like, did he do this himself or did he call in people OT? I need you guys to to put this together. Whatever happened, applause.
00:43:06
Speaker
ah Right. Like I'm good for you. The work ethic is great. Great. Like it just looking at the productivity at all time high very productivity in the drive. Like, you know what, now I get it big wealth. He put, he put it in, he saw, he knows how to get things done. He does. And like good for him. So, um, gasket is super pumped for the, um, the new sweepers and um
00:43:39
Speaker
He tells her, Ratchet tells her that he knows who exactly is fixing the the out modes and it is Rodney. Fender is almost melted down but steals new legs and Ratchet and Gasket see him and they try to stop him but he is able to run out of the shop. Cappy then takes Rodney to the train station as he calls his parents. And he tells um his dad that he is not able to to continue on fighting for his dream. He's done. And so Herb's like, okay, like you you gave it the old college try, you can come home, it's fine. um But he's all like, you know, if you don't fight for your dream, that's gonna haunt you too.
00:44:29
Speaker
Like whatever you do, i'm I'm good. But like, make sure you do everything you can before you come home. After hanging up with his dad, Aunt Fanny and the group come to see him off. When Fender comes running in, telling them about Ratchet and the new sweepers. And the group immediately wants to leave the the city, but Rodney's like, whoa, wait, no, we gotta at least just stick up to Ratchet one last time. when Big Weld shows up and says that he is done with quitting and he wants to help them out. So the next day Big Weld and the group go to the company and he tells Cappy and Rodney to meet with him in the boardroom as he deals with Ratchet. And he tells the others to watch daddy's limo. The fact that he refers to himself as daddy, he knows he's got money.
00:45:22
Speaker
yeah
00:45:27
Speaker
um As Big Weld enters the building, there's a lot of commotion going on because they're like, whoa, Big Weld is back. And when he gets to his office, he just immediately filed fires Rajat. He's like, now you're You've changed his company too much. I don't care if you've made more revenue, which I think you're not. I want you to. I need to go to accounting to check that out. yeah right after Right after this meeting, I'm going down to accounting and I'm looking at the books. I'm looking at the books because something is not right. Yeah, something's not adding up. um
00:46:04
Speaker
And Ratchet immediately puts up a fight. And by fight, I mean, he just hits Big Weld on the back of his head for the telephone. Also, did Big Well have the authority to even fire him? You know what? I genuinely don't think so. Okay. Because um if he's not working there anymore, I'm sure he's just a figurehead at that point. And they would need like, it's probably one of those let's put you at the nice cushy top level, like, or you're, he's just like a board member at that point.
00:46:40
Speaker
so he can still be a quote unquote part of his company but not have any pull. Yeah, he's not really doing anything. Yeah, he would have to, he'd probably have to get like the board of advisors and be like, hey, we need a vote to fire this guy. Right, we're going to need to do a vote. Yeah, because there is no way he's just coming in there guns blazing like I'm bad guys. Yeah. But this is a robot world. Who knows how their society works. Who knows how this works.
00:47:12
Speaker
And so Cappy and Rodney walk in as Ratchet is getting Big Weld taken out of the the building. Wonderbot fights off security and him and Rodney are able to get Big Weld out of the building. Rodney then races around on a semi-conscious Big Weld as Cappy skates behind and the group and the group in Big Weld's car chases after them and security and Ratchet follow behind. Yeah, since Big Bob was kind of like passed out, how was he moving?
00:47:47
Speaker
I mean, I feel like it's one of those because he is a ball. I think once you get it rolling, it's just going to roll. OK, so I don't think he can technically control that he's rolling and he can stop. I think that's that's how it is. I don't know if like going unconscious means he would like lock a ball or if the ball would just I would think it would lock, but you know. Yeah, right. But I don't. And the fact that you can knock a a a robot, quote unquote, unconscious, and because technically they don't have a brain. No. So Cappy gets Ronnie and Big Weld on one of the security magnets.
00:48:37
Speaker
um and Ratchet immediately comes by and magnetizes him on his security car as well. The group then comes to try and help but they just are sucked up onto the magnet and Rodney goes onto Ratchet's magnet and is able to dislocate it but it's too late. They're already basically at the front of the chop shop and as they slow themselves down Big Weld who is now conscious is just thrown in. I don't think he has control of his ball because he was just thrown into that chop chop. Wow. Thanks for him.
00:49:20
Speaker
So before going in, Rodney outfits the group with some upgrades because they're like, we're going into a chop shop. We can't just go in with, with our broken parts and whatever. We have to be able to put up a fight. So Gasket is almost is almost able to melt down Big Weld when the group storms in, but she is ready with them with her army of workers and sweepers. um But before it can start, Piper shows up with the rest of the robots that Rodney had fixed and they start a full-on war. While the fighting is going on, Gasket is able to get the machine moving that had but Rodney had stopped
00:50:04
Speaker
to that big weld is on heading towards like the melting center.
00:50:13
Speaker
So big weld isn't moving moved closer to in but Rodney is able to hop onto his bucket and try to get him out. So Gasket has to fight Wonderbot, the little anxious robot who is not anxious anymore. no um And he is Rodney is able to get Big Weld out of the little bucket that he's in as Gasket is distracted.
00:50:39
Speaker
Big Weld and Rodney then see that the sweepers are overwhelming them and they both say they that they have an idea and Rodney's like, no, yeah, I got you, we're on the same wavelength. And he disconnects some things and they both swing down on a circular saw kind of deal. um and And Big Walt's like, yeah, that wasn't mighty actually, but like, let's do it. All right, let's, whatever. Let's do it. And he is able to cut down the sweepers as Wonderbot fights off Gasket. And kind of with the help of Ratchet from like the falling sweepers, he is able to throw Gasket to be melt down as Ratchet gets strung up next to his dad because his dad is still alive.
00:51:29
Speaker
Yeah, he's just like hanging in the chop shop. He's just hanging in the chop shop. He's very supportive, by the way. Seems like a really nice guy. Yeah. Um, but he just, I guess, pissed one of them off. He pissed off either. He probably pissed off Gasket. Probably. He's, he's showing up in her shop, but he still, she still keeps him around for some reason. And so after that, the, the fight is over and Big World is like, Oh dude, we got to go to the, the company right now. We gotta start making replacement parts again. We gotta start helping people. And Rodney's like, wait, whoa, no, I gotta do something first. And so, Herb's wife, who I don't know what this woman's name is, I tried looking for it, maybe I wasn't looking hard enough, but she blasts into the diner, into the back and tells Herb that he needs to get outside. There's something he has to see.
00:52:24
Speaker
um And, Mr. Gunck tries to stop him, but he's like, bro, move out of my way, bro. I don't care. I'm done working for you. um And when he gets outside, he is surprised to see that the whole town is gathered. And he sees Rodney and Big Weld is there to see him. Big Weld is there to bring him some spare parts. And Herb is just excited to see his son. Big Well then makes a big speech saying that, you know, he was lost at one point, but he is back now and he's ready to make their world a better place and announces that Rodney will be named his successor.
00:53:08
Speaker
yeah Yay. Rodney then tells his dad to live out his dream, enhance him some like triple horned trumpet. And he's like, you can be a musician now, like you're you're fixed. I trace chased my dream. You should chase yours." And when he starts out, it's not really great, but it gets better and the whole band around him starts to join in and he gets the whole crowd going. And that is where the movie ends. yep Yay. Are you ready for some movie facts? Yes, I am.
00:53:45
Speaker
okay So the filmmakers wanted the music score to sound like it was recorded by the robot, quote unquote, robot Philharmonic. So they hired performance artists like Blue Man Group, known for for performing a musical instruments made from industrial piping and other found objects to do special percussion effects. OK. Is Blue Man Group still a thing? I want to say yes.
00:54:17
Speaker
why i don't know i didn't work why were people ever into that to begin with i hadn't i don't know man but phenomenon in 2024 are we still paying to go see blue man group please i don't know man but we should look it up and see if they're still active i sure hope not why you talk i'm gonna look it up okay my second movie fact in the chase sequence while Big Weld is rebooting. He briefly sings the song Daisy Bell, also known as a bicycle for two.

Blue Man Group and Music Recommendations

00:54:54
Speaker
And this was the first song ever voiced by a computer when in 1961, IBM programmed their 704 computer to sing it, to demonstrate their voice synthesis program. um This is also the song sung in 2001, A Space Odyssey.
00:55:11
Speaker
by the HAL 9000 computer.
00:55:16
Speaker
okay Chris Wedge, the director, reports on the DVD commentary that Robin Williams performed the scene with Fender and Rodney attempting to get past Tim into the Big World Ball, eight times in different accents, including a Polish valet. I haven't looked up to see if those like BTS exist, but I am definitely looking it up later because I love seeing Robin William BTS. It's hilarious.
00:55:48
Speaker
And my last movie fact, this was the first movie to feature the official trailer to Star Wars episode three, Revenge of the Sith, also starring Eamon McGregor, who is Rodney in this movie. where it was reported that Star Wars fan bought soers fans bought tickets to see the movie, either to leave when the trailer was over or to watch the entire film just to hear Ewan McGregor's performance. Weird, okay. I mean, hey, if it's going to generate more money, I mean, why not?
00:56:30
Speaker
But yeah, those are my movie facts. And here is the, oh yeah. What about Big Matt? Who my group? Yeah, they're like still the same. Yeah. They have shows in New York and apparently Las Vegas at a hotel that I went to. And I don't remember seeing anything about them. They have a residency? Or is it? At the Luxor. so I was literally there and I don't remember seeing anything about the blue man group, but OK. And then, yeah, they also have like shows in like other cities like Boston and Chicago and Berlin. I. Berlin, that's interesting. I don't get it. I don't get it. It's literally just three men on stage hitting stuff with paint and blue light. I don't get it. But, you know, there's clearly still a market for it. There's a market for it. Make your bag.
00:57:21
Speaker
Yeah, do it. Do whatever you gotta do. I would also like to make a lot of money just banging on pipes and in blue. Yeah, every night I literally just have to paint my face blue and then just hit on some drums and some pipes and shit. And then that's one like an hour and then just go home. And I just made millions of dollars. Yeah, it sounds great. fun It's me. Okay, Jordan, here's the question. Is this movie iconic? No, probably because I didn't watch it growing up. I don't find it that funny. i' I remember watching it a few times when I was a kid. I think the first time I watched it, I was like 20 something. So I didn't watch it with any nostalgia. I just think the movie's okay. I don't think it's that great. Yeah, it's an all right movie. ah It's an all right movie.
00:58:20
Speaker
Like, i'm I'm not mad at it at all. Yeah, I'm not mad at it, but... It's not quite iconic. It's not a movie I watch on my own. Yeah. If I'm gonna watch an animated movie, I'm gonna watch like the classics, I'm gonna watch a Shrek, I'm gonna watch but Emperor's New Groove, like... Yeah. This one... I could do without. Okay, fair.
00:58:49
Speaker
Sorry, robots, not iconic. Not iconic, sorry. And what are your recommendations for this week? Okay, I have three. My first one is I Thought by Brandy. Great song. All right. If you don't know, I love Brandy. Yes, he does. One of my one of the things that keeps me up at night is the fact that I was less than 24 hours away from seeing Brandy, and then like that music festival got cancelled. Yes, it did. Fuck you lovers and friends. um And then my next is Hazy by Chloe and Howie. I love Chloe and Howie. Y'all go ahead and bring us another, give us another album. Yup. Y'all have done this solo thing long enough. Go ahead and get us another album. Please, we're begging. Howie put, drop the kid off at daycare.
00:59:48
Speaker
And get in the studio. What's his name again? I don't think she ever gave us his actual name. Oh, OK. So. Yeah, then drop that baby off. Drop that baby off. ah the way else He'll be fine for a couple of hours in daycare. Yeah.

Future Plans and Farewell

01:00:03
Speaker
and And you know what? As a new mother, you still need to know that you have your own identity. Yeah. So you're also like 23 years old. Like, please, please, your baby will be fine. You got only be fine but people around you that would be more than happy. I assume to watch your baby because, you know, a couple hours doesn't have to be a lot. Yeah.
01:00:25
Speaker
Hell, I'll watch the baby for you. Just get in the studio. Jordan's great with babies. I'm great with babies. I was hanging out with babies yesterday. Yes, he was. Yeah, we'll go to the park. We're going to a nice walk. Right. Everything will be fine. You just get into the studio. Right. Don't worry about baby. Don't worry about the baby. Worry about yourself. By the time you come out, your baby will be nice and ready to go to bed. Right. And you won't even have to worry about that. Just put him down. No. you know Thank you. Thank you. that My last recommendation is The Year I Turned 21 by, oh goodness, I'm probably gonna mess up this name. I think it's Ira Star, A-R-A Star? I'm not sure. Ira? Ira, A-Y-R-A? I'm not sure. um Really fun little Afrobeats album. um I really enjoyed it. I think it came out last week though. um
01:01:26
Speaker
There's some great songs on there. My favorite, of course, is Woman Commando with Anita and Coco Jones. ring Great little song. Y'all know I love Coco Jones, my future wife. But um yeah, I really enjoyed that this album. Okay, Kelly, what about you? Okay, so I have two recommendations. Okay. And the first one is i It's a mix that a DJ has done. So it's A.L. Mix. It's on A.L. Mix's YouTube channel. It's in the episode. I'm just going to have to like, this is going to be a lot of information. um It's episode 29, a funky playlist that revives your afternoon energy by DJ Coco. He is an- Oh, that was a lot of words. Yeah, i I'll let you know. I'll let you know.
01:02:23
Speaker
um But he is an older Japanese guy that DJs with a bunch of 45s and his stuff is really good. Okay. Um, I am literally obsessed with that particular mix and then he has his own YouTube channel and I've been listening through that too. So definitely go check out DJ Coco. And my second recommendation is an album. And it is called Brazilian Skies by Masayoshi Takanaka. Kelly, you're killing me. I know, I'm sorry. You're killing me. I'm sorry. I'll send you all the info. Yeah, you're going to text me all of these recommendations because there's no way I'm even going to be able to attempt to be able to look these up. Oh, I know, I know, I know, I know. So yeah, I'm going to get that info to you. But
01:03:21
Speaker
um Yeah, it's Japanese jazz, funk fusion music. There is, but obviously it's the two songs on there are Brazilian inspired. And one of the songs is called Star Wars Samba. It's actually really fun. So yeah, go check those two you out, expand your music. And yeah, that's it from me. Okay, great. um Well, thank you so much for listening. Kelly has some homework to do. Oh, she already said it to be great. ah Yeah, I wasn't gonna let that go for too long. I'm like, me being me, I gotta to send it right now. Yeah, probably. Kelly and I have awful short return sort term short term memories. I will never I will never read that Britney Spears book.
01:04:17
Speaker
Oh yeah, i all it's literally been sitting here for months to give to Kelly. yeah I have been meaning to give Kelly this Britney Spears book for months, since like November? Yeah. It's crazy. yeah It's crazy. um what Here's what I'm going to do. Here is what I'm going to do, Kelly. I'm literally going to put it in the backpack as soon as we're done recording that I'm taking on the plane to go to your house. As soon as we're done recording, I'm going to throw it in that fucking backpack so that we don't ever have to have this discussion ever again.
01:04:53
Speaker
okay you know what at this point if it comes it comes if it doesn't it doesn't i at this point no i'm determined at this point to give you this fucking book okay okay i will give you this book all right you're gonna have i promise you all right i'll wait for it then in how many days like oh three four or five six a little over two weeks eight, nine and 10 days. he This book will be in your hands. Kelly's gonna buy me drinks. one i'm I'm picking him up from the airport. He's staying at my house for free. We're going to the bar. Yeah. We're gonna get some food. Lunch is on me. We're going to Chili's. Chili's! Follow my caritos. Absolutely. And then maybe... If there is one near after the concert and I am sloshed up, um she will take me to a waffle house. You know what? there is i I'm going to see how far away that waffle house is from where we're going. OK, cool. I'm prepared. Because there is one there is one nearby. Sounds amazing. Love that for us. um Either way, have a good week and stay iconic. Stay iconic, y'all. Bye. Bye.
