Boxing Day Fixture Preview

00:00:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
one that's very special for fans of English football. There's none of that winter break nonsense for us. We want our football and we want more of it over this holiday period. So in today's short episode, we'll do a brief preview of the Boxing Day fixture.

against Leicester City followed by something very special which is the Daily Liverpool podcast team telling you the listener their Christmas wishlist looking ahead to the rest of the season which I know you'll want to stick around for.

Global Sports Podcast Network
So let's start off with the Boxing Day preview. Liverpool are at home and they welcome Leicester City to Anfield. It's an 8pm kickoff UK time. That's 3pm Eastern Standard Time. Leicester have recently installed a former Manchester United player and coach rud van nierroy as their new manager. He had a good start in his first game, but since then

Liverpool vs Leicester: Key Players & Strategies

00:01:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
um they've been on something of a poor run, ah suffered a really damaging defeat to Midlands rivals, Wolves and in the last game.
00:01:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
So this really has a Liverpool home win written all over it Liverpool go into this game top of the league clear of Chelsea by four points and Clear of Arsenal by six points. Of course, they've got that game in hand as well The form guide from the last six Premier League games for Liverpool reads, played six, won four and drawn two. Those two back-to-back draws away at Newcastle and then the 2-2 home draw against Fulham and when they were down to 10 men.
00:02:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
Mohammed Salah is now the Premier League's top goalscorer on 15 goals and top his sister on 11. So he is on fire and he'll be licking his lips at the prospect of going up against a Leicester team that is shipping goals.
00:02:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
Now the Fox's form guide from the last six games, Van Nistreoy obviously being in charge of the last four, Reid played six, lost four, won one and drawn one. In terms of Leicester's form since Van Nistreoy took over, he came in and had that immediate new manager bounce with an impressive three-one win away at West Ham.
00:03:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
And you really thought off the back of that that they could kick on and ah really go on to have a good season, move the the club and the team away from danger at the bottom of the Premier League. But since then,
00:03:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah They drew against Brighton, um which wasn't a bad result. But then after that, they had a heavy four nil loss at Newcastle. And I'd say even worse was the three nil home defeat to fellow strugglers, wolves, um which really starts to drag Leicester into um ah a relegation struggle. And so that's really set alarm bells off at the King Power.

Fixture Congestion & Team Updates

00:03:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
And in this kind of form you have to say that anything other than a convincing home win for Liverpool would be seen as points dropped. After the performance against Spurs, if Liverpool can produce anything like the attacking performance they put in last Sunday, they should absolutely wipe the floor with Leicester.
00:04:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
um That said, there is a certain Premier League champion that Liverpool will do well to watch out for. Jamie Vardy, ah veteran Leicester City striker, club legend after he fired them to Premier League glory back in 2016, scoring 24 goals on the way to them winning that historic Premier League crown.
00:04:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
um He has a very good record against Liverpool having scored 8 goals in 16 Premier League games against the Reds. um I know he's 37 and he really shouldn't be leading the line for Leicester now.
00:05:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
But, you know, he's still got an eye for goal and he may just down a couple of extra cans of Red Bull before this game. So, you know, watch out reds in terms of team news. ah Ibrahima Kanate and Connor Bradley are still out with no word on their return dates. Federica Chiesa missed the last game. Not sure why. So unclear if he's available for this game, which is annoying, but so ah Sadly, it's getting starting to be a familiar story story now.
00:05:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
um so I think that Arnie's slot may well name an unchanged starting 11. Maybe just a couple of changes. Maybe Jones comes in for Sir Bosley.
00:05:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
um Simicast who's now back to fitness in terms of injury free. I don't think he's fully match fit yet. He played against Southampton in the Carabao Cup and he did look a bit short of fitness there. So I would still expect Andy Robertson to start the game um against Leicester on Boxing Day but so with ah with a view to Simicast maybe coming on for the last 30 minutes to get some more more minutes under his belt.
00:06:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
um But after that Boxing Day game, the Reds travel to London to play West Ham on Sunday, after which they've got a full week's rest before that game before a huge game that's coming up against our traditional rivals Manchester United. So um it's not too bad in terms of ah fixture congestion for the Reds in the next couple of weeks.
00:06:45

Okay, we're going to go for a very short break and then we'll come back and have

Christmas Wishlists & Personal Reflections

00:06:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
something special for you.
00:07:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay, welcome back. um So here's the Daily Liverpool podcast team um telling you or sharing with you their Christmas wish list. You're going to hear from the whole team. You'll hear from Karl Kopak. I think you'll hear from Karl Kopak on more than one occasion um because he's got a long list of pretty much everything.
00:07:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
um Just don't get onto any of Karl's lists. That's my advice. You'll hear from Adash Ramchun, who always um uplifts proceedings. You'll hear from Connor Norcott from an airport. Louis Easton will be waxing lyrical. Tom Barnes will have a long list of things um that he wants, ah that he'll be sharing with you as well.
00:08:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
And we'll also hear from Michael Lake, who it does sound like I think he may have had a ah few, he might have had a few, which is very similar to our Tactics Tuesday episode. So we're going to start off with Carl Koppack.
00:11:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
That was Karl Kopak. He doesn't ask for much, does he? So if anyone has a ah ah decent base ah bass guitar, they can they can forward to us at the Daily Liverpool to pass on to Karl, then I'll put the email ah address out so that you can you can get in touch with us. Next up, Louis Easton.
00:12:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
There you go. A message of love going out to Andy Robertson and and shots fired, I think, towards ah daily Liverpool colleagues, Connor Norcott and Tom Gaud. I think we're going back to Karl Kopak.
00:13:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's Christmas. Of course, we're going to let it go. Up next, Mr Tom Barnes.
00:14:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
up the reds from Tom, and I think we're going back to Karl Karpak one more time.
00:14:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
And ah let's let's go over to Adarsh Ramchand to uplift things, I think. ah think
00:15:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
Here's Connor Norcott.
00:16:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
And last but not least, Michael Lake.
00:18:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah Thank you to the Daily Liverpool Podcast team and that leaves, well, just me. What's my Christmas wish? I've got a few I'd like for Trent, Alexander Arnold, Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dyck to be at the club when we do our Christmas 2025 wish list. um I wish I had a DJ voice like Louis Easton. I wish I knew tactics like Michael Lake and Adash Ramchun.
00:18:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
And I wish I was as positive and optimistic as my good mate Connor Norcott. I wish that the list of things that Karl Koppack really dislikes dramatically reduces throughout 2025. Although I do have to back his wish to have Phil Collins wiped from musical history.
00:19:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
um And yeah, I just wish that everyone has a great festive period and that you'll stay listening to the Daily Liverpool podcast team. And I really want to thank all our listeners for supporting us and a huge shout out to our growing ah listenership ah in the United States. You've been a ah huge support and we look forward to bringing you more content ah throughout 2025.
00:19:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
And that's it. That's my christmas Christmas wish list. I hope everyone listening is well and enjoying the holidays. We'll be back tomorrow to review the Boxing Day fixture against Ruud van Nistreoy's Leicester City at Anfield. Thank you for listening. Until next time.
