The Fantasy Corner returns to the realm of the Premiership this week. On this week's FC, we talk about the unfortunate news that came from FRD this week, don't worry we're working on a special piece to help ease the annoyance. We also look back at the happenings in Champions Cup CYL in both conferences, who's in trouble heading into the last two round and who can make moves for points. Then we turn our attention back to the perviously mentioned Prem with Start or Sit and Pick Em. Get the notepads ready friends and enjoy!

Introduction & Host Opinions

00:00:02
Speaker
It is... The Fantasy Europeans. My name is Jared Dyke. I wanted to say it's stupid and let's move on, but then you kept going. I'm Ben Glauser. I don't like any way anybody gambled that. Collusion! Collusion!

Listener Welcome & Beverage Talk

00:00:27
Speaker
Hey everybody. Welcome back. It is the fancy rugby. Thanks. My name is Jared Dyke. I'm Ben Glauser. We're in its fancy corner time. Um, as with previous pot, I'm saying there's no beverage besides water here. And I am almost all the way through my beer from the first pod. So I'm pretty toasted. Okay.

Fantasy Rugby Disappointments

00:00:48
Speaker
Before we get into our usual spiel with champion actually, um, if you haven't heard and the unfortunate news is
00:00:55
Speaker
There will be no six nations FRD there. They won't be doing any more champions cup or prem FRDs going forward as of right now. And it's really sad to see. So they're, and they're going to do super rugby, but at a premium, which, you know, we're committed to doing it, but it still sucks. So it's, you know, it's one more thing to just get, um,
00:01:22
Speaker
Get the people that really can make things happen involved with this whole thing. And I'm talking to people from EPCR, people from World Wide, people from PRAM, like, right? Come on, let's go. There's got to be a decent because like, yeah, there's a Six Nations fantasy game official, but it's like, it's OK. There's no right now.
00:01:42
Speaker
coming into the coming year, there will be no prim fantasy leaves at all. Gross. Like, not even the suit, not even the Superbrew. Superbrew doesn't even do it, no. Right. Like, what are you doing? They haven't even tried to develop this at all. And now it's like, you're just going to lose it because the people who have been trying to make this work, you've provided absolutely no help to. Right. So your engagement is going to drop. And I don't think they understand that. Like, it's going to drop.
00:02:14
Speaker
Like, am I still going to watch most of the pre-matches? Yeah, of course I can. You know, but, you know, I'm primarily watching like, all right, what's my player doing? Right. You know, what are my guys doing? Right. Because you know what? Like, what's my opponents guys doing? Exactly. Because not every, not even close to every game in the prem is worth watching.
00:02:39
Speaker
So there's, there's your problem right there. Cause it's like, okay, well now what are you going to do to keep fans interested? Like if the games are really fucking boring, what are you going to do to make sure the fans actually stick around? Yeah. And that's what the strives.

Fan Engagement Issues in Sports

00:02:54
Speaker
It was like this, like people, you know, you got the one player on, you know, it used to be blister. That was, that would be someone you wanted to play and it'd be like, huh, well then
00:03:06
Speaker
Right. I guess we're going to stick around and watch this shit show. Right. Because other than that, it's like, well, yeah, like, and especially like an exit or match there, they don't really have, like, yeah, sometimes you might have a fantasy player from theirs, but it's like, other than that, next year, I won't next year. Yeah. Especially who am I going to play on that team? There's no, there's nobody on the team that's right there for me. Maybe, um, Hodge. That's it. You know, right. Hey.
00:03:37
Speaker
So, you know, it's really awful stuff for the sake of the

Open Invitation to Paul Morgan

00:03:43
Speaker
sport. And we're going to try and get some important people onto the pod to talk to and still open invite to one Paul Morgan. If you want to keep giving us that line about research, I'm calling bullshit at this point because I see nothing. So I also I tagged him in a post about

Significance of Sports Moments

00:04:06
Speaker
After that, the Baltimore Cincinnati playoff game and football, and they were already calling it the fumble in the jungle. Like the next morning, they had a name, the league basically like propaganda machine had a name for it. There's a 99-yard fumble return that sealed the wind for the Bengals. And it's like,
00:04:26
Speaker
that the game hinged on that. It was a, and they would have a name for it. It's like, oh, if you, I was, I saw it, you remember where you were? Like they, you know, 20 years from now, especially if the Bengals win, that's going to be something that people remember. Yep. And they'll have a name for it. Immaculate reception, things like that. Yeah. Which was just the 50th anniversary of it. They fucking did a thing for it, for one play, for one game. Like that was that big. There's no, and I was like, dude, you needs this.
00:04:56
Speaker
You need to have that connection. There's got to be something. And he liked it, but it's like, well, thanks, fucko. Like, I'm glad you see it, but you're not doing it. So it's not hard. It's not. It takes. It doesn't. This is stuff that doesn't cost money. And it grows engagement. Right. So.
00:05:17
Speaker
Yeah. So what's he going to do when it does cost money like a fancy thing? Right. You're going to need to consider it because, yeah, buy the fucking rugby bag. Buy it. It was awesome. Yeah, it was. Anyway.

Fantasy Rugby Draft Features

00:05:31
Speaker
So we, uh, we tip our hat to Bruce over at FRD. Absolutely. Cause yeah, it's not easy. We hold him to a high standard. I think he's actually done a pretty damn good job lately. Um, I like the changes that have been made. I like the, the waiver stuff to, to ease up the, you know, the morning transactions. That's a fun way to do it. It's so much, it's more interesting that way and it's, it's gotten everything to work. So, um,
00:06:00
Speaker
Absolutely makes it more fun. That's seven to like 8 30 hour 7 a.m. Day 30 when you get it. So it also means I don't have to wake up first thing and be like, oh, I gotta make these trades right away. I can have breakfast and sit there at like 8 8 a.m. And.
00:06:16
Speaker
whatever. It's a waiver wire. Yeah. I get them. I usually get mine in right under the gun. I know the last one needs to check my check my mind, but I'm in the usually in the middle of doing something. I'm just like, exactly. Got to go check this later. Right. Great. It's made it. It's made it that much nicer and it's working and love it. And it's just a shame that he doesn't have the resources to make it happen from the future. So it's like, what is the fucking problem going to do about that? Yeah. Cause they got to do something.
00:06:45
Speaker
Yeah. Talk about it's the tip of the iceberg with problems for rugby in general, but long conversation to be had another day. Uh,

Champions League Review

00:06:57
Speaker
so let's do, let's look at champion sleeves action from champions cop skids. Well, I ate my first loss.
00:07:13
Speaker
And it was just bad all around. I was looking at him like, Oh, no, like Duncan started getting good scores early. And I had some pretty terrible ones early. And I was like, Oh, I am in so much trouble. Aren't I? Yep. Yeah. He got me good. 135 to 74. I had no shot. Quite the other battle. Cobus beat George 133 to 125. That was a Titanic battle. Mm-hmm.
00:07:38
Speaker
And then Justin and Luke did battle and Luke took home the dub. Well done, Luke. So in the Hicks group, um, I got kathwamped by Mark as expected, but not exactly, but not, it was worse because, um, I had jelly bear. He got a card. I had, I had the sari's front row and they had two cards. I had Marrow Otoji.
00:08:03
Speaker
Oh yeah, I got a card too. Man, you were card happy. I was extremely card happy. It was just not good. Otherwise, I would have had somewhat of a respectable score outside of a couple of just shit that went wrong. So he took me down 132 to 53. But again, that's 40 points right there. Right there. So I would have had 90, which is, again, semi-respectable.
00:08:32
Speaker
Okay. So I'm going to fuck this up because I'm a little drunk and Yippie Tri-A is, um, Stu. Stu, rock and cover is, um, Sophia. So Stu took down Sophia 170 to 99. Okay. And then, um, Carrick, um, lost to, uh, just lost to Alex 110 to 104. Oh, close one. Yeah. This round I'll be, um, taking on, um, Stu.
00:09:02
Speaker
Yes. He's the number one seed, um, Mark and, and Carrick and, uh, Alex and Sophia. Yeah. Well, it's, it's still Ron Robin. Oh, it is. Okay. It's still Ron Robin. All right. You gotta play, you gotta play everybody once and then one more person a second time, I believe.
00:09:23
Speaker
Oh, interesting. Yeah. Either way. I'm food. I'm one three. We're yeah. Although everybody, everybody at the bottom is one and three, we're still that three and one, one and three fit situation. So, um, I got Luke, which will be interesting. I think that's going to be a battle for first. If I'm not mistaken. Table here. Yeah. I could have pretty much sealed myself points guaranteed if I had a win, but I couldn't yet. So when we go, when we come back to it, it'll be me and Luke doing battle for first. It'd be interesting.
00:09:53
Speaker
Mm hmm. And then the loser will be left on the desk. All right.

Fantasy Rugby Advice

00:10:02
Speaker
Let's do some search sets. Yeah. All right. I believe you go first. Yeah. And we have the two matches. You do, you do, you do. Just pull up one thing here. I'll pull that up. Nope, not that. Safely tucked away.
00:10:25
Speaker
Uh, oh yes, sale and bath. Uh, that's right. Okay. So bath were like a leak, a leaky cauldron, but not anymore. So that's the good news. Um, sale definitely are not a leaky cauldron. They're the best team in fantasy defense. So that's less than awesome. Um, just the same for sale.
00:10:51
Speaker
Yeah, let's see. So for sale, uh, front row is still mad for me. Um, Jean-Luc, if he's at lock or if he's at number eight or lose forward, then yes. Um, as he has been for a lot of the recent ones, Ben Curry is a thumbs up for me right now. If DDP or Tom Curry return, Tom Curry won't, but if DDP is back, then yes. Uh, Quirky's in it. Scrum half. He's a, he's a thumbs up though. Beth are kind of stingy against scrum halves, but Quirky's that, that type of guy that you want him anyway. Um,
00:11:21
Speaker
RDP is one of the leading point scorers in the prem. So yes, you're going to play him. Uh, midfield is snoozetown. So nope, unless it's roebuck on the wing. That's one thing I'll say that if it's roebuck playing on the wing, yes, that's, that's a midfielder worth a damn. Wings, oh, flats, Carpenter, Luke James, all are thumbs up for me. Maybe read if you're getting desperate, getting saucy. Yeah. Uh, four.
00:11:47
Speaker
Bath. Um, cell front row is tough. So I would not play the bathroom row this week. Um, loose forwards, uh, Hill. Yes. Uh, under Hill. Maybe that's, that's about, that's about the extent of the loose forward for bath right now. Um, no nines. I love Bailey is okay at 10. Um,
00:12:16
Speaker
Lawrence, if he's in, I don't think he's going to be in though. Um, so that leaves kind of the centers, maybe a jumbo, maybe red path. Right. Red path could be, could be all right in this match. Yeah. And then back three for bath. Um, Coca that's probably it. And Gallagher and a pinch. I'll say that Gallagher and a pinch should be about that remind reminder sailor.
00:12:40
Speaker
second best against OBs right now on average. So not a fun pinch. If you're in that pinch, you're in that pinch, you're in trouble, but he has performed for the most part, but Koka's the highest on that list.
00:12:53
Speaker
All right, off to Wilford Road. Lester hosting the Saints. Boring match. This is where it could be fun. Both teams are bottom of the barrel in defense. Fantasy defense, obviously, Lester or 12. And Northampton or 13th. Saints are number two in attack and Lester or 11. So take that for what it's worth. For Lester, I would start the front row because Montoya is back.
00:13:23
Speaker
Yes. Yes, yes, yes. But that's about it in the forwards, unless Visa is around. Maybe Tommy Rafel, but he gets points in some bunches. Sometimes, you know, the stuff he does, even when he's consistent, doesn't always result in points. So he's kind of like a bubble player for me. The back line, except for now, well, maybe actually,
00:13:50
Speaker
If Harry Simmons is at nine, he could be fun. I'm kind of looking forward to that. JVP, if he's playing, I'm not sure how that all was working this weekend, is kind of a bubble, but everyone else in the back line is, go ahead and start them.
00:14:06
Speaker
For the Saints, Lester are good versus forwards, and they're really bad versus the backs. So take that for what it's worth, as in they're top three at each of the forward positions in terms of fantasy defense. And then the backs, they're like bottom of the barrel. So that's why the backs carve them up, or why their defense is so bad. So Lester have some good backs, although Dingle is probably out, I guess, as you said earlier.
00:14:37
Speaker
But they still have, wasn't he back on the team too. So he'd be, he'd be away. Also true. Yeah. So, but like, yeah, your slight homes, your, your, um, uh, Freeman's. Yeah. Go for it. Have fun. Yeah.
00:14:55
Speaker
OK, so we got series and Bristol. This could go a couple different ways, huh? Yeah, this could be ugly. This could be a lot of points. This could be very few points. We'll find out. Right. Anyway. So let's start with the boys in black. Front row. If Woolley's in, yes, I actually like that a lot. So that's there.
00:15:23
Speaker
Probably not going to be any series locks you want unless there's a sequel in the England team. Yes, he is. So yeah, he's gone. He's gone. So he'd be the only other one that I would want there. Lucy's, um, Billy or Andy Christie are probably the number ones on that list for me right now, as far as Saracens guys go.
00:15:43
Speaker
Vencell could be okay. Bristol are, they give up almost 10 points to the square map, so that's not bad. Vencell's not too bad, so that's not a bad one in the spot. Fly half is probably going to be good again, so you don't have an actual fly half option. Are they going to go Manu? Can they please go Manu for this much? I would be very interested to see if they go Manu. Centre.
00:16:10
Speaker
I'd say Tom. Oh, so hopefully he's in laws. I'm kind of leaving at home right now. Um, unless he gets another intercept try, which is not something I think. No, probably not. Uh, and then Obies, um, Lewington, maybe, uh,
00:16:26
Speaker
Roddy in a pinch if he yeah I'm betting he's in maybe we see Tom how I don't know so that's how yeah I think for him it'll be okay Bristol don't give up a ton so you're probably gonna have to pick one series OB and ride it because I don't think we're gonna see that many points out there yeah that's why I would really like to see
00:16:47
Speaker
Gooty back at 15. So bring him on. Oh, yeah. And that's, yeah, obviously good. If he's at 10 or 15, he's probably okay to play, um, for the bears, the front row won't be intact. Like we wanted them to. So there that's a pass for me. Um, backers still around. Yeah. Still bubbles. If they don't have the, if they don't have that trio that doesn't go that well, usually. Okay. Um,
00:17:16
Speaker
Bristol Lucy's. Oh man. Bradbury is about it. Halfbacks don't love them because Saracens are number one against halfbacks. Yeah. And they're not losing. Yeah. Neither of the Bristol tens are doing it for me right now. I need to see, see it from either one of them.
00:17:35
Speaker
Um, and that's, I say that with a heavy heart because I love AJ, but it's a fact business decisions. Maybe it's 2023. He's out of 2022. Hopefully maybe that's enough. Maybe. Um, well, it wasn't good the other weekend. Anyways. Um, let's see centers, rads. And that's it. Like I love, okay. I like O'Connor the way he's responded, but rads is it because Saracens are really tough up the middle. Right.
00:18:05
Speaker
Obies, you got a couple of possibilities. Um, I don't know if it was healthy yet. Um, so that's maybe a possibility. Richard Lane's been good most of the year. If he's been healthy. Um, Chuck, if he's good, if he's good to roll and then, uh, I think the Bailey kid could be good.
00:18:27
Speaker
Diego Bailey. So yeah, that's a possibility as well. So it is possible that although that one out there for now, but series are tougher against Obies and Bristol Bears are tougher against Obies. So keep that in mind as well. So probably find your favorite one and don't try and start two of them. All right, off to Sandy S crack Sandy Park, exit or hosting Gloucester. If this is going to be
00:18:51
Speaker
Interesting. Exeter are 10th in attack and 6th in defense. Gloucester are 12th in attack and 4th in defense. Yeah. Wow. So for Exeter, the Simmonses, Woodburn, Hodge, maybe, oh, I guess Slade won't be around, so I don't know.
00:19:13
Speaker
Don't know what I, where else I'd go with this, um, for the Gloucester, their front row or still yes, please. And thank you. Um, I know that, yeah, they're, they're missing a couple of guys, but they'll be all right. Um, maybe they're 10 depending on who it is and maybe thoroughly, but like, I'm not really liking it, especially exit or go into Gloucester. I, they're just coming off a pretty big emotional win where they, they
00:19:39
Speaker
Are they going? Yeah, you mean lost or going to Exeter. Right. Yeah. So I'm just not, I would kind of try to stick away from actually probably both these teams if you could for the weekend.

London Irish vs Harlequins Discussion

00:19:53
Speaker
Yeah, not really thrilled with this match. Right. Yeah, should be interesting. Okay, Exiles and Quints.
00:20:06
Speaker
Uh, believe it or not, exiles are actually tough, fancy wise. Who knew? Quinn's less so, but, um, we'll see if the, uh, actually kind of on the opposite end of it, but we'll see if one Irish can muster our points to score. That'd be the other point. Um, where Irish, Irish are middle of the table in terms of scoring. So we'll see.
00:20:32
Speaker
Um, neither front row is interesting. It interests me at all in this one. So pass, um, locks, maybe Levis. That's it. Lose forwards. Um, will Evans for the Quinn's, uh, Gonzalez for, uh, Irish cutting himself. If he starts the possibility, maybe bash him.
00:20:56
Speaker
Yep. Yeah. I don't, I don't love a lot for the Quinn's cause Don Brant's gone. So I think we'll Evans will be the most effective one. It's just a matter of what he does on the board. It's going to be hard. Scrum half, um, here. Yes. That's it. That's a first half backs on the scheme in general. Um, Oh, is he around or is he?
00:21:19
Speaker
Yeah. Maybe been white. That's true. That's the possibility. But Danny cares. He, uh, yeah, yeah. Certainly has. So we'll see. That's a, that's a meh for me. I love it. Yeah. I don't blame you. Um, perhaps Tommy Allen. Yeah. Um, obviously dipshit. No.
00:21:40
Speaker
Greetings if he's in that's especially if he's in and hasn't see yes. Yes. He's in But either way, that's fine. Yeah, I think he's a midfielder. Oh really? I thought that's what I thought Right. It's not so bad at all. All right, so senators Ben are yes
00:22:06
Speaker
Have access to we will see we might see Northmore in this match if he's healthy Andre. Yes Opies yeah, Nick David. Yep. That's that's a big one Sinti. Yes. Oh We're Jennings at halfback. Yeah. Okay. So there you go. Well, it's a nice little cheat code of fees. Yeah fees in that's a good one. Yeah, I
00:22:30
Speaker
Um, anyway, Obies. Yes. Uh, yes to, um, Nick David. Yes. To Cindy. Um, I don't know if I can be convinced about loader yet. If he's not suspended, um, I'm saying for the other Quinn's Obies, maybe Oscar beard.
00:22:51
Speaker
Maybe maybe but that's about it. That's about it. Yeah. Yeah. Well, Northmore is probably going to end up in this match somewhere. Yeah. As long as he's healthy, I would imagine so. All right. Next. Um, of the weeks. You want to go? You want me to, uh, you go first. Okay. So I have picked out this.
00:23:22
Speaker
unit because, uh, the playing, they have a very favorable matchup. They're playing at home. Uh, they got one of the big leaders back and he's just, as we've described many times, stupid good. And I think it's going to make a huge impact for this unit going forward this weekend. And I think if you have the lesser Tigers front row, they are my star of the week. So go ahead, plug, set it and forget it.
00:23:46
Speaker
All right. My start of the week, same match, a different position. Yeah. Um, Andre Pollard. Going to be, I had him in my brain too. Yeah. Going to be huge. Yep. I think so too. I also think so. Okay. Sit.
00:24:03
Speaker
So, uh, we talked about a couple of half backs have been kind of dicks to opponents. So this guy has one of those half backs as his opponent this week. And he's also not been in great form. And as much as we loved him as an FRD asset, he has not been that this year. And whether or not he proves that otherwise this week, I don't know.
00:24:24
Speaker
but I'm assuming he's starting because I don't think his partner is back. My sit of the week is Andy Yerin from Bristol. Ouch. Ouch town population me is my, one of my starters. My sit of the week, you mentioned him going up against a really tough unit on the road. And I like Rolando Bailey. I like where he's going, but I don't like him this week.
00:24:52
Speaker
And if he doesn't, it's basically whoever is at Bath 10. I'm singling him out because I believe it's going to be him. I do too. I do too. Not arguing with you. I think it would be a tough road. And then he becomes through that in flying colors. You can count on him for most of the year. Exactly. This is not a weak chance on approve it.
00:25:18
Speaker
Yeah. He should be watching. Yeah, exactly. All right. Pick of them. Back to a two game lead for this guy. Hooray. All right. The world won't last. It'll be three games soon enough. All right. Sail and bath. Sail. Sorry. I took the I took the host. I was taking a drink. I need some water to counteract all this. I don't know. Hydrate you bastard. Beveraging.
00:25:48
Speaker
Uh, uh, Western Northampton hosts. Yeah. Sorry. It's Bristol. Exeter Gloucester hosts. Yeah. Host by like a five to three score. Right. What an Irish and Harlequin's visitors. Yeah. This is going to be this, this, I won't be shocked if the exiles win, but at the same time,
00:26:16
Speaker
I just think the quality is just a tiny bit higher for Quinn's. It is even like the reserve quality. Yeah. I am. I don't think. Yeah. I don't have any reason to believe in the Irish. So true. Also that also that. Yeah. All right. Cool. I have reason to I still have reason to believe in the Quinn's. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yeah.
00:26:44
Speaker
I think so too.

Impact of Coaching Changes on Quinns

00:26:45
Speaker
They're figuring out. We'll see. It'll be very interesting to see how they do. Uh, cause I assume Nick Evans will be gone at this point. Um, I'll be taking up his post with England for the, for the time being. But it happens when you have success, you lose your guys. Yeah. And it's a little bit of this, a little bit of that, you know, but you'd rather see success and then try and bring guys through to more, more. But I don't feel like they, so the success they had was a lot of, they're not trying to be smarter than the game.
00:27:14
Speaker
they're trying to make their players smart for the game and do good shit with the ball. Yeah, it's loose, but it's fun, but it's intelligent network. It works because it's structured well. And if you put those systems into place, a smart coach can pick up on it and manage it maybe slightly differently, but they can still manage the same thing because that's what the success is. So hopefully they don't put someone else in their attack coach who's like, I'm going to make my stamp on it.
00:27:41
Speaker
Do what's working. Yeah. Keep, keep going. Make it a little tweak if you need to, but don't be overall in systems here. Right. All right.

Closing & Future Topics

00:27:51
Speaker
So that is that for our fancy pods. As always, we appreciate everyone that listens to us, supports us and the demise of fancy rugby seems to be
00:28:06
Speaker
almost imminent, but we are not going anywhere. We're too fucking stubborn. We really are. Call it what you will. We're stubborn. We're gonna figure something out. We'll keep pressing on. But for now, we appreciate you all for listening to us and supporting us and just commenting.
00:28:24
Speaker
and interacting with us and we do appreciate it very, very much. We'll be back next week after our return to the prem and then we will be looking forward to some Stacey's rugby. Yay! Woo-hoo! Until then, enjoy the ruggers and have a good one.
