Hello and welcome to the Daily Arsenal Podcast, brought to you as part of the Global Sports Podcast Network. You were just listening there to Jake, Dylan, Michael, Adam, Hussein and Dudley giving their thoughts before the game against Manchester City, which was played for us earlier today. This episode will be coming out on Monday and I am Josh Vint and I'm very so ah happy to say that I'm joined by the ever excellent Jamie Patterson. Jamie, how are you doing man?
00:01:29
Jamie
Oh dear me, I'm just speechless mate, absolutely speechless, heartbroken but I couldn't be any more proud of the boys to be fair. It just felt like it was 12 against 10 really if anything.
00:01:46
officialgspn
it was it was remarkable wasn't it what the boys actually went through so if if you haven't heard by now Arsenal were away at the Etihad and ended up drawing to all and seeing as it's the Monday review show we are going to be reviewing the game in full so just a few little stats to get you started off Jamie. City had 77% possession They had 33 shots, 11 of which were on target compared to Arsenal's five attempts with three on target.
00:02:24
officialgspn
Arsenal had 12% possession in the second half. Jamie, ah we'll go into sort of like the key events chronologically in just a minute, but we have to talk about that second half performance, my word.
00:02:33
Jamie
yeah wow i mean you could not ask any more of the boys i mean really kind of frustrating when you see troughside get sent off for a similar kind of event that happened three weeks ago at Brighton with Declan Rice This time it's a bit more obvious, let's be honest here, we're not going to beat round the bush and unfortunately yeah you know that second half you can't fault the boys. you know they they They pretty much understood the assignment. It was pretty much part of the bus and you know try and maintain any bit of the ball they could. and
00:03:19
Jamie
Yeah, the the rest is kind of history. I think there was a stat on Sky Sports flying around that that that city had about a three-figure sum in the opposition box whereas Arsenal only had two.
00:03:32
officialgspn
I think it was 103 to 2, which is just insane.
00:03:36
Jamie
That's it. Something like that.
00:03:39
officialgspn
I mean, it's been a long time since I've seen a team put six at the back. It's been a very, very long time since I've seen that.
00:03:48
Jamie
I mean, I never thought I'd ever see six at the back. I mean, we're always used to five at the back. You know, teams might play with five at the back and six. Wow. We were being really brave today, weren't we?
00:03:59
officialgspn
We certainly were. Well, the key events obviously started off with the inevitable as a couple of the guys who I interviewed earlier in Manchester called it. Erling Harland scored within nine minutes.
00:04:12
officialgspn
It was his hundredth city goal in 105 appearances. The man is a machine. I think that is level with the record with Christiana Ronaldo set at Real Madrid.
00:04:23
Jamie
I believe so.
00:04:23
officialgspn
yeah Yeah, Jamie, the goal. I don't know about you, I thought it was awful defending.
00:04:31
Jamie
Do you know what? I'm sorry to say it, but Gabrielle again, you know, you were on the wrong side. He was on the wrong side of Erring Harlan. I mean, at the end of the day, you just sit there and you're like, just, all you had to do was just be on the right side of him.
00:04:48
Jamie
But, you know, look, the thing with Harland is, I think I might have touched on it on one of the podcasts previous to this, but he likes to drop in and make his way round and the rest just really speaks for itself. And again, Harland's movement kind of speaks for itself in a way because Gabriel was just caught off second for just just um a second. It was just a second he was caught off guard.
00:05:14
officialgspn
Yeah, split second, but that was enough. That's all that Erling Harlan needs really, isn't it? And I mean, this the space that he had to himself and it was a very tidy finish as well.
00:05:19
Jamie
yeah yeah oh
00:05:24
officialgspn
And I'll be honest, I don't know what you were watching it, but I was watching it because I'd been out interviewing people in Piggategal Gardens. I was watching it um in a bar filled with Man City fans.
00:05:38
officialgspn
And when that girl went in at nine minutes, the only Arsenal fan in there, my heart did drop slightly, but it did get better. um Not in this sense, necessarily.
00:05:49
officialgspn
Roger obviously got injured. um Now, I don't like to see players getting injured. I'm sure you're exactly the same. But it was kind of handy that he wasn't on the pitch, wasn't it?
00:05:55
Jamie
absolutely yeah i mean again like you've just touched on there when i saw rodry go down and the way he was holding his hamstring i just thought oh gosh like how serious is this injury here and i mean there was a part of me that was a little bit like okay like if rodry is not available they're gonna bring on Mateo Kovacic who again i'm not i I despise him, like I despise Covid's shit since last year. since Since this game, since this home game, and ah, do you know what? You've just made me think of something. The fact that City get away with, ah, they just get away with it and it's just, again, we'll we'll talk more on the show about it a little later on, but
00:06:43
officialgspn
We will, yes, for sure.
00:06:44
Jamie
Yeah, it's just, you know, one once Rodry kind of then was off, I thought, okay, this could get interesting. I didn't want to get carried away. I thought, all right, cool. Rodry's off. They've still got a stack of talent on the field and on the bench. So yeah, just, uh, I just didn't want to get overexcited.
00:07:05
officialgspn
Yeah, it was one of those things, and it could have gone either way, really. Kovacic could have come on and had a brilliant game. He has been known to do them as well. He has been known to have good games.
00:07:12
Jamie
Yeah.
00:07:14
officialgspn
But um i was I was a bit hopeful. I'm not going to lie. I did kind of applaud when he came on, much the chagrin of all the city fans around me. But one minute afterwards, muah, muah, the Italian maestro Riccardo Acalathiore,
00:07:32
officialgspn
what go jawe What a What a goal. Was he shooting or was he crossing? This is what I want to know.
00:07:38
Jamie
look what right was so I was watching the game at work and I had a colleague that was with me next door and I was like when he got on the ball I was like oh please just put it in the box mate don't shoot and then as soon as he ah soon as he put his laces through it I was like wow okay like wow califuri wow like you've got this in your locker and then like me uh but i was just there chanting away i mean at this point i'm glad customers didn't come in but i was just like my
00:08:14
Jamie
jaw
00:08:14
Jamie
just odds the emotions were just all over the place and i was like oh man what a breath of fresh air he is
00:08:22
officialgspn
is
00:08:25
officialgspn
Absolutely stunning. I thought he actually had a really good game Calla Fury. I thought he
00:08:29
Jamie
I agree, I really did agree.
00:08:31
officialgspn
really impressive. Yeah and for those who didn't see it Martinelli managed to get down the left hand side he cut it back to Califiori who took a touch, pinged it, it looked like it was slightly sliced but up bins right past Edison it was a peach of a goal absolute peach of a goal also for those playing daily arsenal bingo Jamie singing uh chant you can knock that straight
00:08:44
Jamie
Yeah.
00:08:48
Jamie
wow
00:08:58
officialgspn
um Next came a moment that I was not expecting, although there were warning signs, because about five minutes before Arsenal had a corner, and the corner fell to Gabriel, he got away from his marker, Dokku, for some reason, Dokku marking him, and he headed it just over, and I actually wrote down in my phone at the time, he has to get that on target, he has to get it on target.
00:09:19
Jamie
yeah
00:09:23
Jamie
had to know what I said the exact same thing I was like he had to like I just don't understand how that didn't even hit the post of the crossbar I just don't get how that did not go on target but it was a warning sign to city and I mean again as if as if they didn't learn their lesson last week you know watching the Spurs game against Arsenal you would think oh well main threat would be Gabriel on headers even Saliba let's not you know let's not like single-handedly mention about Gabriel without even talking about Saliba one of the defenders will will poise will just make that right jump at the right time and
00:10:03
Jamie
you know, second time, Gabriel was lucky. I do ah do think to myself though, what was Card Walker doing?
00:10:10
officialgspn
a walker. My word. the the bar The bar erupted in anger. So I stood up and cheered, obviously.
00:10:19
Jamie
I can't imagine.
00:10:21
officialgspn
I cheered. And I got got booed by everybody in the pub, which was fine.
00:10:26
Jamie
Of course.
00:10:26
officialgspn
I lived in Manchester for seven years as an Arsenal fan. I can handle it. It's not a problem. But the anger that went around afterwards about Kyle Walker and also why Kyle Walker was put on Gabrielle.
00:10:39
Jamie
yeah such a mismatch again like i said i just don't understand the guy kept touching him like why are you touching him up for what was that going to do yeah it was just little pats and i'm like oh what's he does with gabriel now like oh what okay
00:10:39
officialgspn
It's such a mismatch.
00:10:48
officialgspn
Just little, little pats, wasn't it? Sort of like, belly, belly.
00:10:55
officialgspn
but For those who can see the video footage, we apologize for the dancing that we just did. a little oh Touchy, touchy sort of dancing.
00:11:08
officialgspn
It's almost like a little tango.
00:11:08
Jamie
Yeah!
00:11:10
officialgspn
um Right, there's one more event that happened in the first half. And we have to mention it. I, I mean, I messaged the group chat after this happened with ah an expletive, obviously we can't use expletives here, but an expletive idiot, after Leandro Trossard was already on a yellow card. He then makes a forwardish challenge. And what does he do? He boots the ball away. What was he thinking? We were 2-1 up and he boot. It happened to Rice two weeks ago.
00:11:44
Jamie
I know.
00:11:45
officialgspn
to go and he does it again. Jay, what did you make?
00:11:48
Jamie
Exactly.
00:11:49
officialgspn
What did you make of it? Because I couldn't.
00:11:51
Jamie
As soon as the ball was kicked away, I was like, what are you doing? I just sat there and was like, wow, that's it. yeah I was like, you know what? You might as well just get walking now. Don't even plead. Don't plead. Just walk. At that point, I was like, just walk, because surely you must have thought, oh you know what?
00:12:00
officialgspn
yep
00:12:04
Jamie
We're not far off from halftime now. Let's just, you know, let let's keep it calm. But no, no, I want to be different. I i haven't learned my lesson from three weeks ago. lets Let's just boot the ball away and just hope that Michael Oliver, who, are let's not even,
00:12:20
officialgspn
we'll get into that in another section don't worry we'll just
00:12:22
Jamie
yeah anyway but just the fact that he boots the ball away I was like that's it just just start walking at this point because you're not you're not you've not saved yourself and if you clearly not learnt your lesson from three weeks ago with Declan Rice then I don't know how you're not going to overcome that yeah
00:12:38
officialgspn
No, I was, I can't explain the the anger that the City fans in the pub had for Kyle Walker. I was screaming at the screen about Leandro Trossard.
00:12:49
officialgspn
I had to take a step outside to calm myself down. And then the second half came and as we said before, valiant defending.
00:12:58
Jamie
Valiant very.
00:12:58
officialgspn
The City he had 13 shots blocked. It was incredible. Like the boys put their bodies on the line. Ben White came on. Kiviore came and replaced Califiori.
00:13:09
officialgspn
We had six at the back and there were seconds left, Jamie.
00:13:13
Jamie
Don't.
00:13:16
officialgspn
Seconds left. And they, you know, they were seconds away from that being their first defeat at the Etihad since November, 2022.
00:13:25
Jamie
two years two years and Brentford it was Brentford because it was the last game of the it was last game of the season back in May Ivan Tony scoring and just the rest is history we'll never forget that game
00:13:27
officialgspn
Do you know, do you know who that was against?
00:13:32
officialgspn
He's good, ladies and gentlemen. He's very good as Jamie.
00:13:44
officialgspn
Yeah, we could have, we could have done it, but no. Um, John stones came up, um, a cropper picked up on a deflection from David Ryan save.
00:13:49
Jamie
no
00:13:56
officialgspn
It was, I, again, being in the bar, it erupted, as you could imagine, and I was stand, for the last eight minutes, I was stood up with my lemonade, because I've been a good boy today, with my lemonade, and I was just tense.
00:14:11
officialgspn
I'm tense as I've ever been, 53 minutes of defending, just defending, with 10 men as well.
00:14:16
Jamie
yeah
00:14:20
officialgspn
And it happened, and I actually slumped on a table. how How did you feel in that moment?
00:14:28
Jamie
I'll be honest with you, I got so angry. I was so, so angry. like i was there's There's a counter and I was literally just going like that against the counter. And I was like, how? Just how? How? And then in the moment, I also, I don't know if you picked up on it, but in the moment, Harlan, I'm sorry. Yeah, right. I have to get this out because this is what's driven me insane.
00:14:54
Jamie
You've just scored. Why the heck would you go pick up the ball and go and throw it at Gabrielle? How slo- Oh, just the stupidity.
00:15:01
officialgspn
He eve wound me up today. He was on one today, Hana. I mean, at the end, squaring up to Gabi J Zeus at the end as well.
00:15:06
Jamie
He was.
00:15:10
officialgspn
Completely unnecessary. He was just looking for that.
00:15:11
Jamie
And then you, and then, do you know what? I'm sorry. Miles Louis Skelly.
00:15:15
officialgspn
Oh, that was amazing.
00:15:15
Jamie
Oh, I have just. Love that. Love that.
00:15:20
Jamie
Come on. came on and was like sorry mate like proper got into harlan and you know what harlan was like who are you all of a sudden like loved it yeah
00:15:20
officialgspn
Is he only just turned 18?
00:15:31
officialgspn
you You kind of saw him looking down and was like, what are you doing, little man? It was like, it was incredible. Louis Skelly coming up to it was c incredible. But um yes, obviously the game ended too well. I mean, this has been a very long recap session, but there was a lot to recap on. um We're going to go for a quick break. When we come back, we're going to be listening to some interviews that I did with um Arsenal fans who traveled up for the game, um which happened before the match took place and before the lineups were announced. And then we're going to talk about their opinions of what they thought and
00:16:01
officialgspn
pick up on another couple of little things as well. So we'll be back just after this message from Zenkuster.
00:20:16
officialgspn
And welcome back to the Daily Arsenal Podcast as part of the Global Sports Podcast Network. Jamie, we were just listening then to Jake, Dylan, Michael, Adam, Hussein, and Dudley. I do actually have to mention Dudley was a Man City fan who very kindly gave me his time. He was the first voice that we heard in that little set of clips there. Um, a couple of interesting points made, especially by Hussein at the end, we have a better squad than City.
00:20:42
Jamie
Well, I mean, well, are you sure he's not had one too many?
00:20:48
officialgspn
Joe, he was the nicest man in the world. He was just asking for directions how to get to the Etihad. I got chatting to him. Turns out he was an Arsenal fan. And like you said, he came from Turkey for this game.
00:20:59
Jamie
Yeah, that's that's huge dedication there.
00:21:02
officialgspn
Huge dedication.
00:21:02
Jamie
Huge.
00:21:02
officialgspn
Unfortunately for him, like you said, was sat in the home end. So ever so slightly screwed there. But I'm sure he had a broken time.
00:21:08
Jamie
Yeah.
00:21:10
officialgspn
He's saying, if you're listening, and to all of the guys who are gave me their time earlier today, thank you very much. It was all very much appreciated. um There was another individual who was mentioned there.
00:21:20
officialgspn
There was quite a few. There's quite a few predictions that didn't quite come off. I don't think Saka the most impactful game.
00:21:25
Jamie
No.
00:21:28
officialgspn
um I was very surprised when he was subbed off um as early as he was. Gabriel has mistakes in him. He had one. Yep, he did. Certainly.
00:21:38
Jamie
Yeah.
00:21:39
officialgspn
Trussard getting a goal. He didn't get a goal, but he got something. And Another important point was David Ryer. Now, yet again, he did concede two goals, but I thought, I don't know about you, Jamie, I thought we had a cracking game again.
00:21:55
Jamie
I mean the saves he was pulling off I mean like goodness me I think there might have been a point where I think Guardiola must have had a crack at goal and I thought wow like what a save like but He's just, he's turned up.
00:22:10
Jamie
I think he's now matured into the player that Arsenal fans want him to be because if you look back to her last year, um he was very shaky playing out from the back.
00:22:20
Jamie
I mean, everyone looks back to the city game, especially where at home, you know, he was very shaky and, you know, wasn't really used to playing in front of a big crowd, not to say that Brentford aren't, you know, you know,
00:22:24
officialgspn
Yeah.
00:22:36
Jamie
They're a good club, don't get me wrong, but like the atmosphere as well.
00:22:36
officialgspn
the ah
00:22:40
Jamie
I'm just talking about the atmosphere in general. But um look at the end of the day, thank you Brentford. Thank you. At the end of the day, you've given us a ah great keeper who has provided us with some unbelievable saves to say the least.
00:22:57
officialgspn
Yeah, please don't ask us. Brentford's daily podcast also as part of the GSPN network. I'm sure they'll have some. like about but Yeah, he's never played yeah a big crowd before. you and He didn't play for Brentford after all. um Now this is this is a this is a section now that I know you're going to get into. And it I think it needs to be talked about the refereeing. I have Really, I'm really, really struggling this season with the inconsistency of the refereeing decisions that are taking place in the Premier League, ah especially in regards to Arsenal. I know that you have very strong opinions on this, so please, Jamie, take it away.
00:23:39
Jamie
Right, so let's kick it off with Sucker in his interview against Brighton. All he asked for was inc all he asked for was consistency. So why are we not getting that consistency?
00:23:47
officialgspn
Insistency. Mm-hmm.
00:23:50
Jamie
We boast.
00:23:51
officialgspn
Dokku.
00:23:52
Jamie
Every Premier League fan, you know, every fan who loves the Premier League sits there and boasts, oh yeah, were we're the best league in the world. Oh, we've got the best referees.
00:24:02
Jamie
Oh, shut up about the best referees. No way. Best referees, no way. Honestly, I'm sorry, but why is it always awesome some games that I sit there and I'm like, Why isn't this player being yellow carded? Why isn't this player being yellow carded? And yes, Jalepedra, I'm talking about you, and Jeremy Dokku. Jeremy Dokku. Yes, you, sir, I'm talking about you, mate. How are you kicking the ball away? How are you kicking the ball away and getting away with it, Scott 3?
00:24:31
officialgspn
They literally showed it on Sky at the half time point. They showed it. and then obviously Now, Trossard was stupid. There's no getting away from that fact. Trossard was stupid.
00:24:41
Jamie
Yeah, absolutely.
00:24:43
officialgspn
I think the rule is ridiculous, personally. I understand the idea that it's wasting time and it's causing you know the game to slow down a little bit.
00:24:53
Jamie
Yeah.
00:24:53
officialgspn
but Add the time on. If you're going to start giving yellow cards for kicking the ball away, which happens in every Sunday league game, every training session under the sun, players, as we've seen twice now, I don't know what happened to my voice there, but twice with Arsenal, this is how angry I am, twice now with Arsenal, this has happened and I'm livid.
00:24:57
Jamie
Yeah.
00:25:07
Jamie
yeah
00:25:12
Jamie
Yeah.
00:25:16
Jamie
yeah
00:25:16
officialgspn
Would you would you scrap the rule, Jamie? Because I think it's just ludicrous.
00:25:21
Jamie
I wouldn't scrap it, but I would modify it. I'd at least modify it because you've got Declan Rose three weeks ago and it was for the slightest little touch, but a lot of people felt to understand that the ball was in motion.
00:25:36
officialgspn
in motion. It was literally moving.
00:25:39
Jamie
But no one seems to understand that.
00:25:41
Jamie
Everyone thinks, oh yeah, well we're just going to follow the route we're just going to follow by the book of laws and and just do the stat and the other. No, it doesn't work like that. I'm sorry. But just it sickens me.
00:25:41
officialgspn
No.
00:25:51
Jamie
It really sickens me. Jeremy Dokku, how you've left the pitch without a yellow card completely baffles me because, again,
00:26:00
officialgspn
Yeah.
00:26:01
Jamie
it You know, I sit here and um you know my girlfriend, she says to me that a lot of the big clubs, the big six, get their own way in terms of decisions.
00:26:13
Jamie
And it is true. But in the gate in a game like this, where just little decisions could have gone a long way, that it just, docu. Let me guess, less the next week, Vardy will probably kick the ball away, and he probably won't get yellow carded.
00:26:13
officialgspn
Hmm.
00:26:27
officialgspn
No, who's going to get sent off this time? So we've had a that maybe I reckon it might be Raya, you know, sod it.
00:26:32
Jamie
Declan Rice. I was actually thinking Ryle Gabriel.
00:26:40
officialgspn
wait The thing is, for such an innocuous thing, I understand it's in the rules, I understand it's something they have to follow, but it cannot justify a second shadow card.
00:26:49
Jamie
No, it really cannot.
00:26:50
officialgspn
It can't justify sending a player off the pitch. it's Sending a player off the pitch is like an in it's a season-ending tackle, or, you know, abusing, physically abusing other players, or swearing at the referee.
00:27:03
Jamie
Yeah.
00:27:03
officialgspn
I mean, we had the we had the lunacy of the three red cards in the um the Brighton game earlier as well, which was chaos.
00:27:08
Jamie
Oh, yeah.
00:27:10
Jamie
Yeah.
00:27:10
officialgspn
but
00:27:11
officialgspn
you can't justify sending somebody off the pitch with a red card with a suspension as well in what is such a packed set of games and seasons for kicking the ball.
00:27:15
Jamie
Hmm.
00:27:23
Jamie
I know. I mean, be grateful in a way that it's just a one match band.
00:27:28
officialgspn
yeah
00:27:28
Jamie
and If it was straight red, I think we'd be sitting here fuming.
00:27:28
officialgspn
yeah
00:27:32
Jamie
And of course, Arsenal would be very much quick to appeal that red card. In a way, it's lucky it didn't happen last weekend.
00:27:42
Jamie
And I guess with Leicester now around the corner, I guess we're lucky that it's, you know, it's Leicester and it's not a Liverpool or a United or a Chelsea even.
00:27:42
officialgspn
Yeah.
00:27:53
officialgspn
Very true, very true. Yeah, I imagine against Leicester, obviously, we'll do our previews later on this week, but I imagine against Leicester, we'll see a lot more of the youngsters playing.
00:28:01
Jamie
Yeah.
00:28:05
officialgspn
I can see Wanyeri starting, for example. um And oh, you're shaking your head, Jamie.
00:28:12
Jamie
I don't know, because the thing is, you've got to look at that list, that you just briefly, just look at the Leicester side that they've got, they've got some decent players in that squad. You know, they've recently brought in Oudson-Edouard, I really hope he doesn't score.
00:28:21
officialgspn
I do.
00:28:24
officialgspn
I do. I do.
00:28:26
Jamie
I do! but I watch Time at Saltyk, I've watched his time at Palace, and just like, if he starts and he scores, oh dear, let's just, let's not even talk about that, but yeah, we we'll get across that line if it happens next week, but yeah.
00:28:27
officialgspn
I do.
00:28:41
officialgspn
up the we've we've had our rant about referees we've discussed ever drive the last thing i want to say in this section before we move on is a little stat that came out which absolutely baffled me okay and this is i i kind of feel bad about saying it because it's only going to pour tinder on the josh duncan have a take fire habits and timber
00:29:00
Jamie
oh dear you've just made josh you've made his day you've made his day he conquered his conquered heights and now
00:29:05
officialgspn
were the first two players since Opter started recording stats to fail to complete a single pass in 89 plus minutes. I have, yeah. He's going to be smart enough for this game. He's going to listen to this and go, I told them.
00:29:26
officialgspn
help
00:29:29
Jamie
Now he's heard this.
00:29:30
officialgspn
Personally, I think Haverts was
00:29:31
Jamie
Wow. What a day he's had.
00:29:35
officialgspn
brilliant as well with his pressing. um As was, I know he's getting a lot of stick in the mind minute, Martinelli is doing a different job at the moment, and I think he'd brilliantly too.
00:29:42
Jamie
Yeah, absolutely.
00:29:44
officialgspn
Anyway, that is the end of this section. When we come back, it's going to be slightly shorter section because we are, we have gone on a bit. We've had a lot to rant about, but when we come back, we'll be discussing the week that's just passed by and maybe a man of the match suggestion as well.
00:30:00
officialgspn
So we'll be back just after this message from the Global Sports Podcast Network.
00:30:40
officialgspn
and welcome back to the daily arsenal podcast as part of the global sports podcast network. It is our last section on this Monday review. And just before we get into it, the reason that I was chuckling during that little ad read there, Jamie, is because one of my colleagues has just sent me a gift of John stones brushing his shoulder.
00:30:59
Jamie
da
00:31:00
officialgspn
If we weren't in an ah
00:31:01
Jamie
but gonnare gonna treat him like They're treat him like a god now all of a sudden. Now that he's gone and scored an equaliser, they're just going to treat him like an absolute god now.
00:31:09
officialgspn
I know, and I'm terrified about going back to work because it's full of City fans.
00:31:13
Jamie
oh god
00:31:13
officialgspn
But we need to look at the week that we just had. A ridiculous, let's be honest, it was a ridiculous week. It was more times of fixtures. We played away at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
00:31:25
officialgspn
We went to Italy and played away in the Champions League. And then we played away to Manchester City. Three massive games, two of them in the Premier League. We've taken four points from the game.
00:31:37
officialgspn
Which I think last week, before this first game, we said if we took four points, we'd be pretty happy with that. How do you feel about it looking back now?
00:31:47
Jamie
looking back now yes great i still feel like this is so cliche to say but like today just felt like a loss but look at the end of the day a point to point you know we we could look back at this at the end of the season and think oh actually you know what at that point at the Etihad did make a big difference whether that is and winning the prem getting champions league or or whatever the circumstances may be but you look at the week we've had you've got to credit the boys adaptability the fact that you know
00:31:56
officialgspn
It really did.
00:32:17
Jamie
we we city had an extra day to prepare for this game the fact that arsenal landed back late on the early like early friday morning you know it's it's really shown how capable we are of this squad and i think now it'll be such a huge relief knowing that the next few games are going to be at home
00:32:27
officialgspn
Early Friday morning, yeah, yeah.
00:32:37
Jamie
obviously be playing away is it's never easy but being at home will be such relief because yes we've got Bolton coming up this week and then yes we have got Leicester both home games I think it'll be really good to be back in front of the Emirates crowd I can't wait absolutely
00:32:38
officialgspn
my
00:32:53
officialgspn
Yeah, I think the I think the emeralds crowd has missed the football. I'll be honest with you. They've missed the game there. um I think you're absolutely right. I'll be honest with you. um Today did feel like a loss, just because it was that last second ending of hope.
00:33:11
officialgspn
It was it was it was brutal, absolutely brutal.
00:33:11
Jamie
Mmm.
00:33:15
officialgspn
um But when you think about it as well, the adversity that we've had to overcome in regards to injuries to for
00:33:23
Jamie
Yep.
00:33:23
officialgspn
that for the Spurs game, we we didn't actually have any of our starting midfield, realistically, any of our first lemons starting midfield.
00:33:27
Jamie
Nah.
00:33:32
officialgspn
Urdugard still out, we're still creating. I think, like you said, this week, as tough as it was, and there's no getting away from it, tough week, but the boys really showed themselves and they showed that they are here to fight and hear
00:33:42
Jamie
of course
00:33:50
officialgspn
hopefully to win this year. And that gave me quite a lot of... yeah It's making me feel slightly better about the situation.
00:33:57
Jamie
Yeah, of course. I think in build-up to October, build-up to the next international break, we are we are going to be so every team is going to be severely tested. Whether that is whether you're playing Champions League or Europa League or Conference League, every team is going to be tested and it's just how we rise up to that test. And I think you look at the games coming up, I think we're we're very much prepared for what whatever is going to be thrown at us.
00:34:23
officialgspn
i I couldn't agree more. i think we're I think we're ready. The Emirates is ready. And now, I mean, we got it all out of the way. That's the thing. Spurs away, done.
00:34:32
Jamie
Yeah.
00:34:33
officialgspn
City away, done.
00:34:34
Jamie
Done.
00:34:35
officialgspn
Bring on the season is what I say.
00:34:38
Jamie
Absolutely.
00:34:38
officialgspn
um The last question I want to ask you, Jamie, before we wrap up this evening, man of the match. So obviously, it could be contentious because it was a draw.
00:34:49
officialgspn
I'm going to say, who is your Arsenal player of the match?
00:34:52
Jamie
Ooh, I think for me, I'd have to go. I'd probably go Martinelli actually. I feel like I've seen a bit more.
00:35:00
officialgspn
and he Yeah.
00:35:01
Jamie
I feel like it in and other games, I've just not seen him as much, but I feel like this game, I've seen a bit more to him. And I think he's actually given Arteta a bit of a headache of, Oh, well, who do I play on that left side?
00:35:15
Jamie
So, and I think now with, especially with, um, the suspension to Trossard, I think he could really come in next game. And if he could point, if you can just point himself in the right direction, find a bit of confidence, I don't see how him and Trostle could have a great season.
00:35:34
officialgspn
I think it's a great shout Martinelli.
00:35:35
Jamie
Let me out.
00:35:38
officialgspn
For me, I'm actually going to go for Calafiori.
00:35:41
Jamie
Oh, good shout.
00:35:42
officialgspn
It was his first start for Arsenal. He scored an absolutely stunning goal. He was very, very good at the back.
00:35:52
officialgspn
And do you know what else I liked about him?
00:35:54
Jamie
Go on.
00:35:55
officialgspn
He wasn't afraid of a bit of a scrap. He was quiet yeah was quite happy to get stuck in.
00:35:57
Jamie
I
00:35:59
officialgspn
And I did think in particular the first half was very scrappy. The first half was a brilliant half of football, but it was scrappy. And I quite liked that.
00:36:08
Jamie
It was.
00:36:10
officialgspn
I think we've missed that a bit in recent years, but people were up for it, you know? Yeah.
00:36:13
Jamie
Definitely.
00:36:15
officialgspn
Jamie's there, Arsenal man of the match, Gabrielle Martinelli. For me, myself, I'm like I said, I'm going to stick with Riccardo Califuri, but that is it for today.
00:36:26
officialgspn
We can't talk about this game much more. I mean, we could probably talk about it for hours, but I think,
00:36:32
Jamie
I'm sure people wouldn't really, I think people would get fed up after a few hours, I don't know, but yeah, I get you.
00:36:37
officialgspn
hey what thank Yeah, I think they would. we We respect you, the listeners, far too much to talk about this for any longer. So all that's left to say...
00:36:46
Jamie
To know what we appreciate, we appreciate the fact that you've made it this far as well.
00:36:48
officialgspn
longer
00:36:52
officialgspn
Yeah this is a this is a slog of an episode this one you've just heard a lot of considering that it's a draw at the edge you've had a lot of negativity so so a little round of applause congratulations for making it thus far um I have been your host Josh Vince a massive thank you it's always great to see you Jamie Patterson we'll be back we'll be back tomorrow with tactics Tuesday but until then relax it's over and we'll see you very very soon take care
00:36:58
Jamie

00:37:09
Jamie
Thank you very much.
