everyone, and welcome to Pesci6101, where we discuss everything about the world of Psyche and the antics of Shawn and Gus in sunny Santa Barbara. I'm Skylar, and this is my partner, Moncrief Johnson.
00:00:33
Speaker
Today, we'll be discussing season three, episode nine of the famed TV show Psyche. Christmas joy. christmas Christmas in the middle of summer. Christmas in August. Yes. christ We've done Christmas in February. It's only been a few months since Christmas.
00:00:53
Speaker
Our last Christmas. Love lots of Christmas. Yeah. I know. of me was tempted to be like, do we need like Christmas movies? Like, do we need a whole month of this episode? But it's okay.
00:01:04
Speaker
We could. Yeah, we'll do that at Christmas time again. Our Swinter episode. o Yeah. Well, this is it.

Christmas Episode Peculiarities

00:01:11
Speaker
We've got. yes treats we do have cake cake treats nice i have a ginger cake i have olive oil cake i was we thought about treats before watching it or i don't know if you did but i one thing i think people have to make around christmas time is that i think
00:01:36
Speaker
It must be a rum cake that they're eating Christmas morning. ok I was like, what the heck are they eating? And then looked up, I looked up like angel food. I look up angel food rum cake or something?
00:01:48
Speaker
um Or like syrup cake. just to And it looks like that sort of what I think with a rum cake, it's like a bunt like that. And then with the syrup. But theirs was quite involved.
00:02:00
Speaker
Yeah, it almost looked like. Like whipped creamy. Like it was really fluffy. Like a meringue or something. Yes, like a meringue. Exactly. Yeah. I was like, what? And and there was so much like liquid, like the syrup. And then they were like nuts. But I think it was a rum cake.
00:02:20
Speaker
um But yeah, I was like, what on earth is that? It looked really tasty. Yeah. I was actually like waiting for them to reference it and they didn't at all. Very casual. Yeah. Elaborate cake. But I guess that is kind of like Christmas-esque. Totally. I feel like everyone does very elaborate stuff. Like a Christmas morning. Yeah. And I feel like a bait, like cinnamon rolls or something. and was go to say, that's what do. Like something you can kind of have.
00:02:45
Speaker
Yeah. Because that you probably have ready. Like the cake made and then the syrup and then you just prepare it. So that's nice for Christmas morning. Yeah. so there we we have to do that during our Christmas celebration perfect with our next Juliet movie yes you awesome Hallmark movie yeah I wonder if she'll have a new one this year i hope so have a big backlog to get through we do we will I would imagine there would be news if she like it would be known if she was going to be in another one actually they'd probably have to like schedule it out already
00:03:21
Speaker
yeah I'm just going to look at her IMDb and see if anything's on there.

Actor Juliet's New Ventures

00:03:26
Speaker
But she's also got her new series that might keep her busy. What new series? She's going to be in like a Blue Blood spinoff.
00:03:35
Speaker
Oh, interesting. Really? Yeah. I'm down for that. I believe. um ah Upcoming. she be a detective again or like an officer again? i assume. Okay, good.
00:03:48
Speaker
Boston Blue. Oh, there you go. um

Solving and Santa Barbara

00:03:53
Speaker
yeah i don't know if there's a whole lot of details out yet i don't see another hallmark movie so but we've got plenty to we do plenty to run through yeah so we're just talking about the episode but it is christmas christmas and this was really fun i feel like every time they do a christmas episode I'm always like, ooh, Christmas in the summer. And then I'm always like, ooh, nope, it's still winter.
00:04:22
Speaker
It's just California. Yeah. This was ah fun, like this had, I like the sense of place. you probably don't know what solving is was gonna ask you that i have literally no clue i just it's a real town okay and it's like a real place like it's a real place it's like if you look it up um i don't know i mean i assume they do have a santa's village but the whole town is like a like a little dutch town oh so yeah so it's like definitely kind of a tourist
00:04:54
Speaker
but I've never been there, but you always drive by it. Okay. Going, you know, north. um So, yeah, if you look up pictures of it. i will. let me just It looks like a little theme park town.
00:05:08
Speaker
um And there are some Christmas pictures on there. gosh. Fantastic. Yeah. So I do feel like if we ever, you know, make our trip to Santa Barbara, we'll have to go up to Solving. Oh my gosh, we must.
00:05:20
Speaker
And I did check how far it is because they're going up there, up and back quite a bit. And it's, it's pretty far. It's like 50 minutes. okay. Five minutes. So it's not like right there.

Christmas Crime and Family Dynamics

00:05:33
Speaker
Intrigue. Um, but yeah, so that's kind of fun that they're, uh, that we're going up there and it feels very like, you know, you gotta be a SoCal California person. You know about that.
00:05:47
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. I just, yeah. I kind of just assumed that it was, yeah, like a town or like just the name of the Santa's village, but to know that it's like a ah very specific reference. and It is kind of funny because to put it like to do the Santa's a village.
00:06:08
Speaker
piece, like you wouldn't know that the whole town all right year round is like a theme park almost. A quaint town theme park. A theme town, I guess.
00:06:21
Speaker
A theme town.
00:06:24
Speaker
and That's so cute though. And I feel like that makes for kind of an even funnier story just to think that this this dad and daughter couple were like, let's go to this Dutch town Santa village and see what con we can pull. like Very fun.
00:06:42
Speaker
Yeah. What a duo. I do love like thinking how fun it is. the whole setup of this episode it's such a great like like the first part is all just like sweet heartwarming yes and like she is so sweet and it's so christmas like it's just perfect and then you get that like psych to twist and it's just clever and perfect um and then it's still sweet in the end so it's like it's just great it's a great christmas a great psych christmas yes definitely definitely yeah you got that little like crimey twistiness in the middle but still heartwarming which is always nice to see i wonder now if solving is like a 50 minute drive
00:07:34
Speaker
Well, I don't know how like towns work in California because they've got to be way bigger than here. New Jersey has like 500 and something municipalities. It's like absolutely ridiculous. um So for me, like thinking 50 minutes away, like that's like 10 towns over, if not more.
00:07:53
Speaker
Yeah. they still be technically a part of like the Santa Barbara jurisdiction? Um, I'm just looking here. I would think they, I don't know if they would have like their own police department.
00:08:03
Speaker
It's possible that it was like they're in Santa Barbara County. Okay. I would think that maybe it would be like sheriff jurisdiction.
00:08:15
Speaker
don't know if it would be like Santa Barbara police department, but maybe, um, like Jules mentions that brawl. right um and how they set a paddy wagon like maybe they just have like santa broberta city has more resources so they like would support ah i see i see it there but um i don't know if that would like they would be the now the department yeah in that town um
00:08:48
Speaker
Or another thing that I like some of the small towns I know like around where I live in Northern California. Yeah. um Do is there like contract with like either the sheriff's department or like the another town that's a bit bigger and just like they don't they might wear like something different but they're still or they have different cars.
00:09:10
Speaker
Yeah. For the town that they're in but technically they are part of a different department. So maybe something like that. Okay, okay. I could see too, like, when this turns into ah murder investigation, then it's like, well, we want specialists almost.
00:09:27
Speaker
Like, we want people who can do the the detecting and whatever, whatever, not just, like, someone on the beat to be able to come in and do the investigation. Like, maybe that's why Jules and Lashley end up getting Well, and they really don't know that that's half, like, because they go so much Yeah.
00:09:44
Speaker
Yeah. And Jules and Lassie do come when Sean and Gus call. Right. Before they know that there's been a murder. Right. um But yeah, imagine there's just some relationship.
00:09:56
Speaker
Okay. Now, I'm on the Solving Wikipedia page and
00:10:02
Speaker
there's some fun filming locations. Oh, I could imagine. It's so cute. Yeah. yeah oh Season 3, Episode 9 of USA Network Psych. Which features scenes shot in Solving. So they really shoot in there, which is like kind of rare.
00:10:20
Speaker
going to say, and that's so interesting, especially for them because we we know they don't shoot in California. So to come down. fun Special on location. Yeah. so my god, it's so cute.
00:10:33
Speaker
Very fun. So to... Give a little bit of context. We've got our Christmas episode and a lot is happening in this episode. There is a lot happening. There's a lot of people, a lot of places that we go.
00:10:48
Speaker
Yeah. A lot of secrets to be told. Oh my gosh. Yeah. There's a lot, a lot happening, but kind of the backbone of the episode is that Sean and Gus had a young girl.
00:11:02
Speaker
She looks to me like maybe 10. Mm-hmm. I'm not great at guessing age, but she's like, you know, a elementary school, maybe like early middle school age child. She is like super cute. She's got these little pigtails and like a cutie pie velvet dress, like very kind of Christmassy.
00:11:18
Speaker
She comes into the office and she is trying to get the boys to investigate. says, are you Mr. Psyche? Yes. Also very cute. Are you Mr. Psyche?
00:11:30
Speaker
He's like, I'm Mr. Sean. This is Scrooge Jones. Yeah. And then at the end, so she she's trying to get them to help her get Santa out of jail because Santa was arrested at the Christmas Village in Solving.
00:11:46
Speaker
And the boys are like, no, you should you know go to the police. And then she starts crying. And of course, they eventually cave and say yes. And she goes, thank you, Mr. Sean. Thanks, Scrooge Jones.
00:12:00
Speaker
It's so cute. And, you know, goes and and they start their investigation. So they're trying to figure out, you know, what's kind of going on with Santa, with this guy and with this young girl. Well, also, it being Christmas time and Gus's older sister, Joy, being home for the holidays. She's a very busy...
00:12:19
Speaker
lawyer So she's like all around the world kind of helping people and and doing stuff. So she does not often get to come back home. and Which makes sense because we've never heard of her. And I don't think we ever hear of her again. yeah Like ever.
00:12:34
Speaker
That said, as we've just said before, I think that she's just like fits right in. Yeah, she does. She totally does. um So there's, yeah, there's kind of these two things playing, like the the social aspects of their lives.
00:12:47
Speaker
So the Gus... the

Santa's Village Investigation

00:12:50
Speaker
Guster family like holiday traditions and you know secrets and all of that. And then also the case of the week, which is Santa getting beaten up at Santa's village in Solvay.
00:13:05
Speaker
So it's ah it's a really fun one. And we start off with, of course, a Christmas flashback. I love this flashback. Me too. and And it's one of really the... I think three times that we see Henry this episode. Like we do not see Henry very much.
00:13:19
Speaker
Yeah. But as always, it kind of like fits, fits right in. It feels right at home. It's Christmas morning and Sean comes, you know, tumbling down the stairs to Henry still putting stuff together.
00:13:32
Speaker
And of course, Henry has to turn this into like a big lesson as he always does. And he asks Sean to recreate what happened here last night. to which sean you know notices a bunch of things around the room which how freaking cute so henry and and set up every little detail so that sean could interpret them i know he we just talk about this so much but like he you know henry doesn't really know how to like communicate with people super well but
00:14:05
Speaker
You can kind of tell, I think, the more that you analyze Henry, he does all of this out of love. Like you just said, the fact that he put all this together, like, that's so sweet. And he thinks he's doing something that's going to be really worthwhile for Sean and something that he, ah I would assume, thinks that Sean likes doing, even though he kind of complains about it the whole time. Like, that's really thoughtful.
00:14:28
Speaker
Again, we don't see Maddie down there. It's not like anybody else is with him. Yeah. Yeah. And it's also fun that like, you know, Sean is eight or nine or whatever. And um he, like Henry is also doing this to You know, make Santa real.
00:14:46
Speaker
Yeah. Because it's like he is providing Sean evidence of Santa's visit. And he uses it to be like, maybe you got up earlier than expected.
00:15:00
Speaker
And I love how he would have had to have the forethought of how early Sean was going to get up. But he did that first. And then he started putting together the bike. Yeah, he knew. he knew. Knew his son.
00:15:11
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah, and it's just so sweet that Sean, you know, he doesn't question it at all. He's just like, Santa came in. Santa, he has some cookies, whatever.
00:15:22
Speaker
yeah so it's just, it's very sweet. Yeah, it's very cute. And then we jump into the boys at the office. And they're talking about how Gus is going to be going to his parents' house for the holidays.
00:15:39
Speaker
And then we get our interaction with our young lady friend, whose name is Brittany. I said that as if, like, she wasn't 10. Our child... Our child...
00:15:52
Speaker
Friend? Child? Client? Client? Yeah. Yeah, her name is Brittany, and she hires them to find out what's going on with the Santa in jail.
00:16:07
Speaker
Yeah, and so they agree to take the case, and then they have to go to Gus's house. So they, two of them go to Gus's house with Gus's mom and Gus's dad, and Joy...
00:16:19
Speaker
shows up presumably from the airport to you know hugs and smiles from the whole gang and i thought it was actually really sweet that the parents referenced joy's like i want to hear all about the psychic detective agency and they're like it's very impressive i was like oh guster family yeah well and and we learned last year when we were both brought up on murder charges nobody's fault but they would like slyly point to each other funny but wrong place it is also like it's joy is a fun element because that is like a bonkers story yeah oh my god so joy yeah being someone who it does not hang out in this world very often right her come in and be like what yeah or like
00:17:11
Speaker
I don't, I still don't understand how that happened. Yes. um And then it like, that continues like later with the, like the bookie, not to give too much away, but like, do know how to find a bookie? Like, she's consistently surprised by yeah um it Santa Barbara, and which is a strange place, the murder capital of the world.
00:17:32
Speaker
Yes. And I think it's a good device, too, to remind us kind of what has been going on in the Guster family since we haven't seen them since last season. And one of our actors has changed.
00:17:44
Speaker
Yes. It's good. always Always a little bit of an adjustment. Yes. But that also feels like very classic, like, I don't know, 90s sitcom. sit come Yeah. Totally. Totally.
00:17:56
Speaker
But it's good to just be like, oh, remember, like we were the parents. Yeah, I am that same person who got arrested last year. Exactly. Exactly. So that's that's also kind of fun, too.
00:18:08
Speaker
And then she also adds like this totally new dynamic to the Guster household, which we haven't seen before, which is. Gus is extremely protective of Joy, even though Joy, they say this multiple times, is his older sister.
00:18:22
Speaker
He's still very protective. So we get to see like little bits of ah brother Gus, which is cute too. And her whole dynamic with Sean is super interesting.
00:18:35
Speaker
Oh my gosh. I know. I remember when I watched this for the very first time, I was like, oh my God. Aghast. Aghast. Because essentially what ends up happening is, you know, they've all met in the foyer.
00:18:47
Speaker
the Mr. Guster says that he's got to go to the night shift. Mrs. Guster is like going into, you know, the kitchen or whatever. And Gus takes some of Joy's stuff upstairs to go into her purse basically yes because other stuff's far too heavy and almost the moment gus is gone joy and sean just start making out it is happening quite um a shocking escalation yeah and they just kind of are just like standing there and then it's like but um glued
00:19:18
Speaker
faces yes yes and it goes like it goes does it go title sequence it does yeah it was the title sequence and then when we come back from the title sequence they're still making out but now they're on the couch I'm like this what is happening and yeah it is um just to think about that kind of dynamic yeah it's like it seems extremely physical yes um and Sean mentions while they're on the couch like it was one time 10 years ago yes um and and the whole episode like
00:19:55
Speaker
you know joy talks about kind of picking up where they left off and stuff and it is curious like because she does not spend a lot of time here like is it just like a classic holiday hookup right does she want something else from him but i feel like both of them are in a very casual place with each other and happily so Yes.
00:20:18
Speaker
That's a really good point. Because she does make it seem like this is going to turn into a thing with the way that she keeps framing it to people or the way that she like frames it to the family at the very end.
00:20:30
Speaker
Makes it sound like it's going to be kind of serious. But how would that be possible? And even Sean. Sean's like, no. Well, yeah. It is interesting that she chooses...
00:20:42
Speaker
And here we go again, skipping way to the end. That she chooses to tell her whole family about it. because What are you I mean, and maybe it's a bit of guilt. or like Maybe. um Because it it would be weird.
00:20:59
Speaker
that like to Obviously, it's her family and then Sean, who is basically family. And then keeping it from all of them. maybe So maybe she just wants it to be like. out in the open But it is funny.
00:21:13
Speaker
Ridiculous. and And Sean makes it very clear, too. Like, Gus is my best friend. Like, we know this is going to hurt him. He's not going to be happy about this because you're his sister.

Joy Joins the Investigation

00:21:24
Speaker
And she's like, it's fine. I'm a girl. But he, i mean, one's like he tries to be... I don't know, to hold it back, I guess. Yes. But it is very hard for him. Like we see, i mean, he does try to go to her room later.
00:21:37
Speaker
We see, um and we don't really know like what his plan is. No. he He kind of does it like frustratedly. Maybe he wants to go have a conversation with her or something. um And then I love the moment where they're like flirting over his vision.
00:21:53
Speaker
oh my God. and And he's just, he's like, She's really like turned on by this vision. yeah And he's like baseball stats, grandma whatever. guy Doing that classic thing of like trying to calm his. um Yes.
00:22:12
Speaker
His attraction. ah So, yeah, it's. He, I think, we would be happy to jump right back in, but he's trying to like also respect Gus.
00:22:23
Speaker
Yes. And it's tough. Yeah. Yeah. Which is, I was like, this is what we've been talking about. This is the theme for the season. Like, yep just, which is also fun because I feel like the holidays really brings that out too.
00:22:40
Speaker
As much of like, as much as like being, you know, well, and that's part of it, like being in your parents' house, being in your childhood town, you meet up with your friends from high school or whatever, like, and you do kind of regress.
00:22:52
Speaker
Totally. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, so it's like, it's a great um opportunity to like do that again. And we've seen it happen a bunch. And we've seen Sean and Gus go back to their high school.
00:23:05
Speaker
um And Sean is obviously like in his childhood home a lot. We've seen his mom, like. all of that he's in you know that one part where he's like it's 1989 in my house or whatever yeah yeah um and so adding joy to the mix is like just a a great way to like do it again but in a different way yes um so yeah it's just like now that we're paying attention to this theme it's so fun that they really do hammer it home yeah and it's interesting too i think in this episode we get like some bits of kind of a jump in jump in fourth what a back jump between like high school sean and then kind of like reality sean and then back to high school sean again like that little uh there's an instance where they get jewels he gets jewels involved to try and figure out you know what exactly has happened here
00:24:02
Speaker
And the little back and forth that they have, I wrote it down, where, you know, he's telling her about the situation with Joy, and he was like, you know, don't worry, it was way before I knew you. And he goes, why would that matter? He goes, it might. And she goes, it doesn't. he goes, it could.
00:24:17
Speaker
She goes, it won't. Oh, my. So cute. I know. It's amazing, too, how, like, they are talking about it. Yeah. Straight The thing between them. Yes.
00:24:29
Speaker
ah Like, in the last episode, we saw her say, like, you know, I was going to tell you about, you know, my on my little datey guy showing up here. was going to talk to you about it. Like, they're really addressing the elephant in the room in a way that's, like, you wouldn't, I feel like, necessarily expect from us, like, a slow burn television.
00:24:49
Speaker
Yeah. um But, yeah, you're right. he And that's kind of, you know, similar to the um high school reunion like how he kind of sees two roads i mean it's it's different with abigail because they there was like a a sense of future with her that i don't know that he um is thinking about as much or joy is thinking about as much um But there is that element in that episode where he's like, there's high school Sean and yeah, and present day Sean. And he's like kind of trying to navigate which version of himself he's going to be. And he is kind of doing that in this episode too.
00:25:37
Speaker
yeah Yeah. we get the boys. Yeah.
00:25:44
Speaker
going to the station to try and start working the case, which I love. i loved this whole little scene with Vic where it's the boys and Joy at the station, like walking through, you know, the boys are playing like this big show of like, oh yeah, like this is where we work and this is what we do. And like, isn't you know, isn't this so cool? Oh yeah. And also before we like left for your...
00:26:05
Speaker
um I think Sean is kind of being like, we should keep our distance. and oh and And then Gus comes down and he's like, I was thinking, since do you want to learn about psych, you should spend as much time with us as possible.
00:26:17
Speaker
So you don't know what you just did. Joy becomes like their little, yeah, she's like kind of shadowing them in a way to like, which is fun to see what her brother does.
00:26:30
Speaker
Totally. And I love, as we always do, I love Vic in this. She's like, hi. She's really like a bucket of cold water. She's like, what are you guys doing? Yeah.
00:26:43
Speaker
Like, oh, we, this is my sister Joy. We've just brought her as our guest, show her around a little bit of what we do. And she goes, well you're my guests so you don't have the ability to bring guests and therefore she can't go any further i'm like oh that's fair vick for being so clear to them because i feel like they if you're not here with them they'll try and go right around what you're saying oh yeah um and i love too that They say something about like Joy seeing what it is that they do. And Vic is like, have you ever seen a movie about high school?
00:27:21
Speaker
Joy's like, yeah. Then you've pretty much seen what they do. yeah And I feel like you could if I were writing an essay about the theme we were just talking about, I would pull out that quote. There you go.
00:27:32
Speaker
Yeah, the perfect little. are in a high school movie. Yeah. While they're living their adult lives. Correct. Especially, and as i as you were just saying, especially this season. Yes. With all the the themes of you know regression and whatnot.
00:27:46
Speaker
So they go and they find Jules. Because Jules apparently has said that she will help them with this. Because this is not technically a police case. right This is a ah consulting or a side case that they have.
00:27:57
Speaker
That they've been hired for by a client. But Jules is willing to help them. Even though she's like totally swamped. Which...

Uncovering the Christmas Con

00:28:05
Speaker
I feel like is a like ah common thing that they pull on like cop shows that Christmas is just like really busy. And I feel like you kind of hear that um a lot.
00:28:16
Speaker
and This is another reference ah from Bob's Burgers. They have a ah crematorium next door, like a funeral home and a cremation place. and there's this one yeah there's this one day sweetie todd it actually makes for some like really that's so funny that's literally the first episode is that um there's like a rumor that they make burgers with remains from the crematorium you have to have yeah of course but it makes for a lot of really interesting plot points i think because the the guy who runs the crematorium his name is mort and he classic
00:28:49
Speaker
is of course like just so okay with death so it it causes a lot of interesting conversations anyway um so they go to mort one day to be like hey could you give us some like leftover flowers for our mom like we want to put like flowers in a bath and like surprise her like make a spa day and one of the kids comes back with like three flower petals and apparently with a report from mort that says check back during the holidays oh No.
00:29:15
Speaker
So it it seems like it's just kind of a thing that like more crime or or more death seems to happen around the holidays, which is kind of interesting. So yeah, Jules is all over the place. She's got lots going on, um but she's still willing to help the boys. She ends up telling them that there was this like fight.
00:29:31
Speaker
that essentially happened, ah possible assault. But we didn't really get all the information. One of the people was kind of knocked out. So everyone's just down in the holding cells. and Because they have to figure out who right did the knocking out.
00:29:44
Speaker
Like who is going to be charged with assault. Right. so And this is something that I don't... like Watching this episode, i'm I'm always a little bit confused because I don i never realized or I never remember that there were three people involved in the assault until the end when they referenced it.
00:30:03
Speaker
Because inside the holding cell, we have two people involved, our Krav Maga guy and Santa, who doesn't look like Santa. Well, they do say that someone is passed out. I think someone is still.
00:30:15
Speaker
See? but and Like right over my head. Yeah. And it is interesting. Like, i don't know if they would still be out because that would be a long time to be out. and like And then it's like, are they okay?
00:30:28
Speaker
Right. Well, and and I guess my, like, tiny, you know, lizard brain that only is, like, half paying attention is, like, okay, well, if they're passed out, like, why are they not just, like, right, I'm sure they're fine. Why aren't they just in the cell with them?
00:30:40
Speaker
But it does seem like later on Jules' reference that he gets out of the hospital a certain day. So he must have gone to the hospital. Maybe they wanted to and keep him overnight. Like, who, you know, who knows? Yeah.
00:30:51
Speaker
And I guess knowing that our other party is a Krav Maga expert and and Sean mentions that he should be charged with assault with a deadly weapon because his skills are a deadly weapon.
00:31:05
Speaker
I guess it makes sense that he would do that much damage that this guy was in the hospital for days. Yeah, that's true. That's very true. And we also have, in terms of like making sense of who all was involved, he says, i was just trying to protect Santa or something. Right. So he there is an implication that he was intervening but because someone was attacking Santa. So there had to be a but another person there.
00:31:29
Speaker
Yes, that makes that does make sense. In the moment, I just, I think i Yeah. It takes me an extra second. um But yeah, i I love this whole scene too.
00:31:42
Speaker
i love the whole fake out with the Santa, not Santa. they Like get downstairs and there's this, you know, um and slightly elderly, slightly more round, very bearded and mustachioed white man with gray hair.
00:32:00
Speaker
And in a red shirt, I think. Yeah. And Sean's like, wow, he really does look like Santa. And Jules goes, can you step aside, sir? There's just like this a tall, lanky guy with black hair in the back. And he's like, that's the Santa you're looking for.
00:32:15
Speaker
Love that. Of course it is. Yes, of course. Love the ah Kung Fu fighting references. And also, how do you learn to read Hebrew?
00:32:29
Speaker
I spent a summer working in a Hasidic deli. Of course. I'll pack another one on there. Oh,
00:32:38
Speaker
like what Sean must be so full of memories all the time. Yeah. When I feel like to something that I just love the idea of with Sean is that so I feel like a lot of people could have odd jobs and just be like, yeah, they were kind of random things that I I did.
00:32:59
Speaker
Whatever. i was just kind of being whomever, you know. But Sean actually, like, pulls interesting skills, information, and, like, all this other stuff from these jobs that we hear about all the time that he literally uses is in his everyday life. So the fact that he was there for, like, a couple of months and he learned how to it.
00:33:18
Speaker
yeah fight tracks with him oh yes very sharp yes and it does seem like there's an and intentionality about like him taking the jobs like he does seem to go in like a sponge like he's yeah like he wants to um absorb everything wherever he goes yeah And also sort of can't help it because of the training he received. the training he Yes, the training he was he was forced into.
00:33:50
Speaker
So yes, we end up figuring out that one of the men was a Krav Maga expert and he almost immediately confesses to attacking the other guy. Like there's really no pretext. He's just like, I had to!
00:34:01
Speaker
He was attacking

Family Revelations and Dynamics

00:34:02
Speaker
Santa! yeah Jules is thankful that, you know, Sean just saved him a bunch of processing time. And I love, i don't remember who said if it was Sean or Gus, but we just saved Christmas and then they do the cute little peanuts dance. I can just like hear the da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da.
00:34:23
Speaker
I'm just like, it's so like quiet. Literally like no sound. Yeah, just sitting there doing the little dance. They are just adorable. They are so cute.
00:34:38
Speaker
And then we just go upstairs, right? We go back. Yep. And Lassie's sitting with Joy. And Joy doesn't look very happy to be talking to Lassiter. No, she doesn't. But he's kind of... I forget what he's telling her about.
00:34:57
Speaker
Accuracy versus precision of bullets. Okay. Yeah. yeah and And this for Lassie is, of course, flirting. It's fun with weaponry, of course. Yeah.
00:35:08
Speaker
I mean, i guess she probably would be an interesting, like they could have a conversation, like her being, we don't know what kind of law she practices, but true she would probably have some common ground.
00:35:19
Speaker
Yeah. I think even just the fact that she's Gus's sister is like, oh my God, you work with Gus? Like, that's so cool. What's your husband? I'm his older sister. Isn't he a wacko? I love him so much. Like that, you know, just let alone.
00:35:32
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. But I do feel like, She might be able to have a conversation about different bullets. Right. Yeah, she could. As evidence. I don't know. I don't know what she does. Right, right.
00:35:43
Speaker
But, um yeah, Lassie seems to be coming on strong. She doesn't seem interested. no um And Gus loses his mind.
00:35:57
Speaker
Yeah, he's so funny. Yeah, he really was like... who do you think you are going after people's sisters? Vic's sister? sister? He's like, no holds barred. He's like, stand down, Guster.
00:36:11
Speaker
know. Because it's like, whoa. Yeah, well, it is a very quick shift for him. Yeah, it's just like, so extreme so fast yeah and especially from someone who is usually so like just go with the flow true it's kind of weird to get this more combative version of yes i'm sure it's pretty jarring for lassie yeah and yeah and going up against lassiter like i mean they they tease lassie but usually in a pretty subtle way and yeah it's weird that they actually mean it yeah and i
00:36:48
Speaker
they don't usually get confrontational. No. Yeah. It is very different. Yeah. While also reminding us that like, Hey, Sean, bad thing that you did. That's really what it's about. Yeah. How could you have done that?
00:37:03
Speaker
Someone who's my friend. I know it. That is really funny too. Cause so then Sean says, Lassie, I think Dobson is calling for you. Like, um, um him end this situation. Yeah.
00:37:17
Speaker
Um, And yeah, well, Joy tries to tell Gus that, you know, she can handle herself. She can pick, choose her own people to date. um and And yeah, Gus says, not if that person is supposed to be a friend of mine, which I think is very adorable that he is saying this about Lasseter.
00:37:37
Speaker
that's a friend. Because for the audience, about it's about Sean, really. But in the scene, it's about Lasseter. Yeah. So, um... That's very cute.
00:37:48
Speaker
That is very sweet. and happy that Gus thinks of them as friends. I think they are friends. Yeah. But yeah, that also Sean internally, I'm sure, is like,
00:37:59
Speaker
Ah!
00:38:02
Speaker
I knew this was going to happen. Yeah. I wonder if that's part of Sean's issue too is that he kind of probably feels like he got away with it. You know, it was 10 years ago. He was much younger. um Maybe he doesn't it doesn't haunt him or anything as this thing that he shouldn't have done for Right.
00:38:18
Speaker
To Gus. was the way calling. Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And was like so long ago. Water under the bridge, you know. and Not something to bring up now, but it's like now she's back and and it's really hard to not fall into that again.
00:38:30
Speaker
yes um And it becomes more of a ah friendship problem because it is very present. Right. And she she definitely seems to be like I don't want to say like instigating but like maybe pushing it along a little bit more like you know being involved in what they're doing. very interested getting going again. Yeah. yeah and In a moment Sean gets a call from like his landlord, whomever that may be, because we never know where he really lives. Oh, yeah.
00:39:03
Speaker
Apparently his apartment is invested with fleas because of ah another stray cat that he brought in, which I love the idea of Sean just taking animals off the street. Yeah, sweet little Sean.
00:39:14
Speaker
Yeah, and Joy just invites Sean to stay with them at the house. She's like, I'm going to get my hands on you. Uh-huh. Yeah, she is really, she's trying to make it happen.
00:39:26
Speaker
And this conversation is also so funny because like he's like, they can't blame me for infesting the whole building. And then Gus in gus and Joy in sync yeah say, one female flea can lay thousands of eggs or something like that.
00:39:39
Speaker
So cute. Yeah. And it is also funny because to think about how close Sean and Gus are and then like how similar in ways Joy and Gus are.
00:39:54
Speaker
and guys are um i know there are some tropes of like
00:40:02
Speaker
people like if you sleep with somebody it's like who's like that similar it's like do you really just want to sleep with gus but be happy yeah so you know for the sean gus shippers out there i see you yeah well and that's you know That's such an interesting comment because there are many different types of love.
00:40:26
Speaker
There are. You know, like you can you you can romantically love someone, you can platonically love someone. And like, is there really a ah hierarchy of these different types of love or are they just different types of love?
00:40:41
Speaker
um It is like when you have a show that is... been done for many years although we have movies um and you revisit it all the time it's like you can explore all of the possibilities yeah so um yeah but that it is funny to think about yeah and i love too that um you know i think it'd be really easy for As we've mentioned, Joy is kind of like a random character that pops up and then we never ever see again.
00:41:12
Speaker
And I do think it would be very easy for her to feel like that, like a character that was just kind of made up out of nowhere. But these little things that they pepper in throughout the episode, very similarly to like the backstory and the the like texture that they give the relationship of Sean and Gus really adds to the fact that although we haven't seen Joy, like Joy's always been there.
00:41:32
Speaker
Totally. One of my favorite examples of that is later when... um They are starting to fight and Gus well, she says forehead and Gus says ears.
00:41:43
Speaker
Yeah. And it's and she's like covers her ears and runs away all sad. And and it does like that's so sibling. So sibling. yeah Just knowing just where to hit.
00:41:55
Speaker
Yep. and you're And you know they've had this argument yes so many times before. Yeah, and it's so harsh, like the way Gus says it. It's like, they have done this before. like you yeah Even like his his gesture when she runs away, he's like, what? Like, oh, I'm the bad guy now. Like, as if this is a pattern of behavior, you know? Yeah, I mean, you can be so much crueler to your siblings than you can be like in real life. Yeah.
00:42:21
Speaker
Yeah. It is. They're stuck with you. Intensity. Yeah. It's fun and it feels very lived in. Yeah. Totally. Totally. Yeah. The whole episode really does.
00:42:33
Speaker
So they are. Oh, they have this whole conversation outside is what happens because Sean's on the phone. And this whole flea infestation thing outside. Joy invites Sean over to the house.
00:42:45
Speaker
And then as they're like going to the blueberry, going to the car, I guess, to go to the house, who do they see? But our a young child client, Brittany, and the man who we just got out of jail, his name is Carl.
00:42:58
Speaker
Yeah. And Brittany is yelling at him, essentially saying like, you're lucky I got you out of jail, daddy. We only have three days now. She's like so upset with Yeah, just completely different person than they met at the beginning of the episode.
00:43:15
Speaker
Yes. And it's kind of like a you know, a gag

Holiday Resolutions and Chaos

00:43:20
Speaker
when you see it. You're like, what? Yeah. But as the episode goes on, you're like, okay, yeah. like she's just she's just a really great con man. Like, she really is.
00:43:29
Speaker
is. Yeah. Yeah. And it's fun seeing. I'm just thinking about how um you know Sean has been trained by his father and so has Brittany and well because I was just going to say it's fun also to see like what like her dad do kind of similar moves yes and it's like he's she's clearly been taught by him well and I i think that adds a little extra the comment that you just made I think that adds a little extra to the very end of the episode where Sean like pulls Carl aside and is like
00:44:04
Speaker
hey, she's clearly a really smart kid. Think about the things that you're teaching her. Like, are those the lessons that you want her to take away from all of this? Because from Sean, he's like, you know, i maybe I took away internal lessons that I didn't really want to take away from my dad's teaching.
00:44:23
Speaker
Yeah. And it also might be kind of an acknowledgement of like how Henry did do A good job. Like he didn't, like he taught him things that have served him.
00:44:40
Speaker
Yeah, better skills. Or ah morally better skills. so Skills that are for the greater good. You know, the harm of others. Yeah. Yeah.
00:44:53
Speaker
Yeah, that's later. yeah that's like literally the end. Period. But yeah, in this moment, um they watch them kind of drive off and Sean's like, we just got conned or whatever he says.
00:45:07
Speaker
Yeah, he's like, what the heck? you know And then they they go to try and essentially figure out what the heck happened. So they actually go to the Santa's village, which is so darn cute.
00:45:17
Speaker
It really is. It is. It's adorable. And everyone's dressed up in little like Santa or Elfie or you Christmassy outfits.
00:45:28
Speaker
It's very themed. They've got the wreaths everywhere. no we spend like solid minute of them just looking. Reindeer. Taking it all in.
00:45:39
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah they really enjoy the reindeer. They are really cute. Even with their kind of like the eyes. We're very excited to see them. Yeah. um And And we kind of see ah people are taking pictures with Santa. We hear one of the elves taking some info from one of the patrons. Send them to a home address. Which I'm like, wow, this case could only happen in 2008.
00:46:04
Speaker
They definitely don't do that anymore. Totally. Yeah, they're like, give me your phone number. We'll just send you your email. Here's your QR code. Oh, yeah, QR codes. That's true.
00:46:15
Speaker
Wow. Yes, scan this QR code. Here you go. Pictures. but They see Carl and Brittany again. Yeah, so they they see Carl being Santa. And they cut in line and oh yeah talk to him about like, hey, we've got to figure out what's going on here. cause we know you're a con man.
00:46:36
Speaker
Yes. So he, Carl, pretty much says, like come to the back with me. I'm going to take five, of everybody, so that you know they're not talking about it in front of the kids. And when they get to the back, yeah, Brittany's there playing her little Game Boy. And Sean makes just the worst line ever.
00:46:56
Speaker
Blind kid, did you steal that from? Why would a blind kid have had video game? And you're like, okay. Sean really, we've seen him in high school. Now he's like a full child. Yes.
00:47:09
Speaker
He's just like, you can't beat, I don't like you. And having little tantrum. Totally. oh And we... Yeah, and pretty much end up seeing that, yes, they, you know, she intentionally conned him to get her dad out of jail.
00:47:27
Speaker
And don't remember what they say. They say something. I think they do say, we know you have something planned. Oh, yes, yes. The 24th? Yes.
00:47:39
Speaker
And... um And they're like, we're going figure out what it is. And then the boys, he's like, you're too smart for your own good. And then he starts screaming. Don't hit me.
00:47:50
Speaker
Don't hit me. And runs out. And then ah Sean and Gus put their hands on him to like bring him back, which is mistake too. Because yeah, it really looks bad. Totally.
00:48:00
Speaker
Brittany starts crying. Like they've got this whole shtick down. And the parents in line are like, they're the ones you cut in line. Yeah, yeah. So, yeah. Not good.
00:48:11
Speaker
Yeah, no. I know. The whole time it was happening, i was like, man, these two, like, they really, they know what they're doing. Yeah. They really and really, like, as much as you know not a good idea and not good for britney they do ah an adult and a child con duo really does oh yeah seem effective well yeah yeah very very effective so they go back to the guster house
00:48:44
Speaker
Right, like nothing really happens at the... Yeah, I think they they basically get kicked out. Yeah. Oh, yes. And the little security guard comes and takes them away. Right, right, right. yeah And we'll see him again.
00:48:55
Speaker
Yes, that will be important for later. Yeah. And then we go back to the Guster house and this is when we get possibly my favorite scene of the episode, which is the hallway scene. Just so good.
00:49:06
Speaker
Yeah. Classic farcical moment. Yes. Just opening and closing doors. People coming out into the hallway, going into a door.
00:49:17
Speaker
Another person coming out. I just, and I love, like, there are just, like, stupid little things in it that make me laugh. Like, the fact that none of them are trying to close the door quietly. They're all just, like, close the door. Yeah, and Santa Baby is playing, so we really can't hear, like, anything.
00:49:33
Speaker
the um the noise in the scene but um yeah it does not seem like it would be quiet which makes sense because then gus comes out presumably because he keeps hearing the doors and he has this look on his face like what the heck why are all these doors opening
00:49:52
Speaker
i just like i love i love like when Sean goes to the bathroom and then she comes out of her room and goes into Sean's room, but is also in there for like a solid two minutes. Yeah. Like, what is she doing in there?
00:50:06
Speaker
What is she doing in there? Is she like looking under the bed? Oh my gosh. I just love it. It's just so fun. Yeah. And then they all eventually end up back in their own rooms without having seen each other until Sean thinks, oh, let me go downstairs and see if maybe someone's like in the kitchen or in the basement or who knows.
00:50:27
Speaker
Yeah.
00:50:29
Speaker
It is I don't know. i mean, I guess he doesn't actually hear something. He says that he did, though, which is interesting. And it does seem like that would be what makes him go down there, unless it's just that he doesn't know, like he thinks she must have gotten down there. But I don't know what he would have heard, because Gus's dad is getting home, right? Maybe he heard his car door, or like he heard the car and thought it was something downstairs. I mean, it it doesn't seem like...
00:50:57
Speaker
Sean to misinterpret a sound. Yeah. I mean, I could see him thinking like, oh she's not in there. She's not in there. She must've gone downstairs. Oh, that could be. Yeah.
00:51:09
Speaker
But yeah, it is kind of funny. I mean, it's all a very silly like progression. So, yeah you know, whatever works, it gets him downstairs. Yeah. And I just want to say before I forget, this house is beautiful. I love this house.
00:51:22
Speaker
It The like wood trimmings and just like the the layout of the house. It feels just so nice and cozy. The decorations are so nice. Very Christmassy, too. like Very warm.
00:51:32
Speaker
Yes. And I feel like in the upstairs, there's like a lot of dark greens and reds. Like, I feel like they really, they're um they're like, this is a Christmas episode. but yeah Even though this is their house all the time. House could always be Christmas. Yeah.
00:51:48
Speaker
It's okay. i mean and i don't I mean, it could be. they made that beautiful rum cake it seems like they take a lot of pride in their christmas decor and stuff maybe they change the rugs and the sheets people do that oh i could totally see them yeah i could totally see them doing that yeah so very cozy one thing that i thought was very funny know in terms of production design i don't know if you noticed when we get to the garage there is just like a bizarre amount of lumber Oh, I didn't notice the lumber. If you look like in the rafters, yeah there's just like a ton of wood just like all up. And I'm like, what are you building?
00:52:27
Speaker
that's so fun. And I'm curious about. go do that. I don't know. I don't know a lot about like production design and like how. I mean, I assume they outfitted this house for this see this episode and like back garage for the scene, which is amazing to think about how much work goes into like a single scene because of all.
00:52:48
Speaker
and And that's such an important part because it makes it feel so alive. Right. But I am fascinated by the choice to give them that much wood. just like, yeah, it's little choices like that, though, that I freaking love. Yeah.
00:53:04
Speaker
Because it makes you go like, what the heck? And I feel like only realistic human lives have little nonsense like that that you're like, why do you have 50 boxes from 20 years ago? Like, why do you have that? Yeah. yeah but yeah And that is what people do. Yeah. Yeah. And like thinking about because I'm like thinking to myself Nobody in that house seems particularly handy. No. Like they don't really seem like people sure who would be doing building.
00:53:33
Speaker
But I could see maybe mr Guster like being like, I'm going to build a shed or something and getting all the stuff and then just like not doing it. Yes, i that I can totally do.
00:53:45
Speaker
But then not knowing what to do with the lumber. Yeah, it's just so like never leave. Yeah, exactly. I feel like everyone has a little bit of that. yeah so pretty fun yeah a very fun time and i i love this whole yeah garage but i'm not really sure what it is i maybe yeah i guess a garage i assumed it was a garage or i mean yeah it's gotta a be yeah but it is kind of yeah it's like just an unfinished space um yeah yeah i love this whole scene of like sean going down there kind of in the dark
00:54:17
Speaker
looking for something like the joy yeah but like it's clear she's not there and then mr guster coming in and being like sean and being like mr guster i thought you were supposed to be at work was like what are you doing here aren't you supposed to work and he's like what are you doing here i was looking for something Like this whole thing's really funny. I love that.
00:54:39
Speaker
were um Sean gets like a vision. He notices like popcorn kernels or something on his with a jacket and he starts getting a vision and Gus's dad's like, can't get me. Don't do that psychic stuff to me.
00:54:53
Speaker
yeah Yeah, we've never really seen anybody try to like dodge Sean's psychic powers. i love I think, you know, I think that it,
00:55:05
Speaker
How do I put the the the Guster family that we've seen so far is very serious. Like they're very like intense people. And seeing this little scene, I'm like, I get Gus's goofiness like that. I totally get that.
00:55:16
Speaker
Yeah. There's like a silliness. Yes. He makes a comment about like between you, me and the lampshade. And Sean's like, what? The folding chair isn't trustworthy. And he's like, excuse you. do It just it felt very Gus-esque, which yeah really liked.
00:55:31
Speaker
yeah and it's fun too like thinking about that this man has known this kid for 30 years yeah yeah and they have that even though sean is not his son like they have a a rapport of their own yeah yeah totally yeah like a familial kind of bond Yeah.
00:55:55
Speaker
And well, so what's revealed is that Gus's dad lost his job. he was laid off a month ago. And he's been lying to his family and going to interviews during the day and then going to the movies at night.
00:56:08
Speaker
I don't know why he needs to lie that he's covering the night shift all the time just to go to the movies. Yeah, I don't know. he Maybe it was just trying to stay as like consistent. at Like maybe before it was always. Yeah, he did that a lot. Tuesday, Thursday. Yeah.
00:56:25
Speaker
Yeah, maybe. Trying keep it. Yeah. I wonder if it's too, if it's like hard for him to lie. And so he's just like, needs to be gone all the time. Yeah.
00:56:37
Speaker
So that he doesn't like accidentally spill. Yeah, yeah. He just doesn't have to deal with it if he's not there. Yeah, that certainly could be. That's got to be very stressful, I'm sure.
00:56:50
Speaker
that is a sad situation and uncommon. Yeah, especially holidays. Yeah, at Christmas. Yeah, that's really tough. So very much feel for him. Yeah, especially when I feel like the the holidays come with like so so much expectation from people about like what it's going to look like. what you're goingnna We see that later with Joy and Gus and their stockings. like Yeah. Yeah.
00:57:11
Speaker
So I'm sure it's stressful and then even extra stressful with having to subvert the expectations a little bit.
00:57:23
Speaker
And go to the office and Sean is very tired because he didn't sleep. Oh, yes, yes. um yeah And Gus is talking a lot. I don't really remember what he was talking about.
00:57:36
Speaker
But then Jules, not Jules, Joy comes in. um And Sean gives her a sultry little wave. Yes. And, um, oh, wait they must be talking about how they can't get back into solving.
00:57:53
Speaker
And then. Yeah, they might. They're still talking about that. And then Joy is like, I can help. Yes. So cute. I do kind of like the idea that she's just, she's in it.
00:58:03
Speaker
Like she's just willing Yeah. To be involved. Again, very much like Gus. Gus is like, got you. Right your back. And it is fun to think like she doesn't come home a lot. And so it's like when she's here, she's all in.
00:58:14
Speaker
Yeah, it's sweet. And I do think that kind of, again, talking about like the whole sibling-esque quality of this, I do think that is a very sibling thing to come home, especially if you have a good relationship with your siblings. And then you're just like, whatever you want to do. Like, I'm down. As long as we're hanging out together, that's really all I care about. Yeah. It's like kind of cute.
00:58:33
Speaker
Yeah, and it's really cool to see, like, all the little details of people's lives when you visit them and they're still, like, you know, they have to work or whatever. You just get to walk in their shoes.
00:58:44
Speaker
Yeah. So, yeah, very fun. And then we go to Santa's Village and Joy gets a job a...
00:58:56
Speaker
i I mean, sort of like an elf, but she's dressed in like Santa baby. Yes, it is. Like a sexy Santa dress. I was going to say, kind of, yeah, short, like pinup-y.
00:59:08
Speaker
um She looks very cute. She looks great. Yeah, very cute. um Yeah, and then and the woman in the office is like, we'll take all the help that we can get the holiday season. Yeah. So I'm sure they were just happy to get somebody else. I was also thinking like, what, what does this interview sound like? I'm a lawyer most of the time.
00:59:25
Speaker
Did she just not tell them? Was she like, I'm just looking for some part-time work? Like for a couple of days. actually Stay there. Yeah. I was like, what's going on? Who knows? um But she gets the job. That's really all that matters. And the boys tell her that she needs to keep an eye on Carl.
00:59:40
Speaker
Yes. And luckily that, oh yeah manager lady lingers for a very long time on carl's like application book open like no big deal and sean's just standing there staring at it over his shoulder i do love her like little when she notices she like closes it gives him like a little scowl and then like walks away okay true yeah i do like this episode has like an extra amount of like Suspension of disbelief in a way. Which I think is fine.
01:00:11
Speaker
yeah Because it's Christmas. yeah so It's like there can be magic. Yeah totally totally. Extra magic because this there's always magic. um um But yeah. so We get right before we leave the scene.
01:00:29
Speaker
you know Joy walks off in her cutie patootie little outfit. And Sean watches her walk away. And Gus is like what are you looking at? Sean's like ah that. beautiful wreath right there.
01:00:41
Speaker
And Gus is like, I hear that.
01:00:44
Speaker
Yeah. And then later on, it's like cut to the end of the day, Joy comes out to give them, you know, the intel that she gained about Carl, which she seems to think he's like totally on the up and up, right? he He's a really good Santa. He asks the kids more than just what they want for Christmas. He asks them about their family and what they're doing for the season and blah, blah, blah, blah.
01:01:06
Speaker
And Then she goes to walk away again. And again, Sean, like, goes to look at her and Gus is like, what are you looking at? This very cute snowman.
01:01:19
Speaker
I hear that. So even Gus, like, can I maybe, like, kind of tell that something's going on? like Yeah, it is interesting. And we know he's... I wonder if it's like a reflex, like kind of the way it is with Alassian joy. It's like anybody pays her any attention and he kind of goes.
01:01:40
Speaker
Yeah. um Gets very intense very quickly. Yes, he does. um Yeah. And then Sean has his little vision that what they are up to is um figuring out who's going to be gone for the holidays so that they can rob their houses.
01:01:59
Speaker
Which, like, very smart. Clever. Yeah. To be asking these kids, what are you doing? These very innocent children, what are you doing? and then Yeah. he says Those poor families.
01:02:10
Speaker
But smart conmen. Then they call Jules they call jules and Lassie to the village to look around because Sean's under the impression that something's going to happen.
01:02:23
Speaker
tonight at the village um but no one seems to be there it's like totally desolate not even like staff or anything and and they're looking around you know guns are drawn but because nothing's happening lassie and jules end up leaving yeah it is tough thinking they drove like an hour to get there totally and and I'm sure it's disappointing. Like even, you know, Joy turns to Sean and goes, does this, is you being wrong? often are you wrong like this? yeah And Gus is like, all the time.
01:03:01
Speaker
Yeah. And Sean's like, not often. no rarely happens. Um, And, you know, as they do, they start to kind of riff on just the things that they see around them. And they end up noting that, you know, man, they don't even have a black wise man. Like, I thought everyone knew about Balthazar.
01:03:19
Speaker
And Sean recalls in his... you know mind palace that there was in fact a black wise man the display. It's fun in that first moment where they get to solving and they just like look around for life they gloss forever.
01:03:36
Speaker
he sees like the address is being taken yeah and he sees the wise men. so like he sees all these things that just come back. love that.
01:03:47
Speaker
Yeah. So Sean walks over and he kind of looks at the one that is standing in place of the black wise man. And when he pokes him, this figure falls over.
01:04:00
Speaker
And they all scream because it's a dead body. It is our friend Ted. Oh, poor Ted. Jules and Lassie come running back. guess they hadn't made it to the car quite yet.
01:04:13
Speaker
And Jules pulls out just a great line before the commercial. We're not dealing with con artists. We're dealing with murderers. Dun, dun, dun. Dun, dun.
01:04:25
Speaker
And... Yeah, very scary. I wonder how Joy was feeling in all of this because Sean and Gus, I feel like, are probably used to this by now. Like, they're still kind of scaredy cats since the screaming. But Joy, like, this could be the first time she's really encountering a dead body in the real world, especially um depending on what kind of law she practices.
01:04:43
Speaker
um So that's got to be pretty freaky. I would have probably been like, I'm done. i don't want to be involved anymore. like Thank you. Yeah, well, I feel like it also probably adds some legitimacy to Sean and Gus's work.
01:04:57
Speaker
Because feel like a lot of people kind of, even if, you know, she's humoring them, um but it's like, it's getting serious.
01:05:08
Speaker
So, yeah. And ultimately, he was right. They were just having conversation about something like that. Something happened. Yeah. Something happened. Yeah. I am always glad to see Sean win.
01:05:21
Speaker
And especially when they just set it up that like, oh, he's going to be embarrassed and nothing happened. And then it's like, nope, he was right again.
01:05:32
Speaker
After commercial, we go back Vic's office. Where now we essentially find out that this has been, like, the the threat level has been increased, ah essentially, on this case.
01:05:45
Speaker
Because now we're dealing with murder. So Jules and Lassie are now, like, officially involved in trying to figure out what was happening here. They collected Carl and Brittany. Carl's in a holding cell, and Brittany is just in one of the interrogation rooms.
01:06:00
Speaker
And... Carl, I guess because he knows the boys and the boys helped him, is refusing to speak to anyone other than Sean and Gus.
01:06:12
Speaker
So although it's now technically a police investigation, which they might not even be consultants on yet, ah they have already kind of wiggled themselves into it because Carl will only talk to them.
01:06:23
Speaker
Yeah, and I love the little, like, pointing that Sean does when they say that. Yeah. Yeah, it's funny because it's almost almost like a when the Gustards were pointing to each other, but now it's the two of us.
01:06:40
Speaker
way Oh, think you can imagine that. So they go and they talk to ah Carl, and he admits almost immediately to the long con, but...
01:06:53
Speaker
pretty much says that him and Ted never hurt people. That was not their thing. Like, they were con artists, plain and simple. um So he doesn't really... like and he definitely didn't do it, right? Because he's not a violent person, is essentially what he's trying to say.
01:07:11
Speaker
And the boys are, like, listening to him, but cautiously, right? Because they, like, they know he's a con man and a good con man at that. Yeah, we have a lot of fun banter around...
01:07:24
Speaker
forward Fool us once. Shame on you. Fool us twice. Shame on us. Fool us thrice. I forget what he says. Makes mess out of you and me. Oh, yeah. it Makes a mess out of you and me. And then he's nope.
01:07:37
Speaker
And then they keep... says something about, like, a fool and money. And they just, like, keep riffing on other idioms about fools. Yeah.
01:07:48
Speaker
So that's very fun. And then, yeah, basically land on we don't trust you as much as far as we can throw you. Yeah. Which again, there.
01:07:59
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah, it is kind of an interesting dynamic because, like, Carl will only talk to them because i think he's, you know, he's seen how quickly they caught on to everything and trusts them to probably problems.
01:08:15
Speaker
the problem and is he's worried about his own safety and britney's safety yes yes um and then but then sean and gus have also seen what this guy can do and so they don't really trust him now um yeah but then carl pulls out the classic and just starts crying i know and you know sean's like we're not falling for it and then gus is like know i'm a sympathetic crier And it's just downhill from there. Oh, yeah. And to be fair, this man, I mean, just like Brittany, he seems very sincere. Yeah. He's a good con man. Well, and they're good at what they do, but. Totally. Yeah.
01:08:57
Speaker
So he, you know, they agree to help him be against their better judgment. And they get Carl to share a little bit more information about, like, who might have wanted to kill Ted because you're telling me that you didn't kill Ted.
01:09:14
Speaker
So who else could it be? And he gives them some information that they are into their bookie Frank for 10 grand. And he can be found at one of two bars, neither of which names I remember. Sean, I guess they split up. Maybe Gus goes to one and Sean goes to the other. Sean says we'll we'll have to split up.
01:09:34
Speaker
Yes. Which good thing. Yeah. Yes. Oh, my gosh. Yes. Yeah. Good thing they went to the respective bars that they went to. Yes. Because Sean finds Frank.
01:09:45
Speaker
And this man is, like, not trying to hide. but i know. He's got his, like, spreadsheet out. Yeah. Yeah. He's got him on a laptop. It's just, like, right in front of him. Yeah. Like, with people's names. I do love that guy. He's, like... Oh, he's great. Yeah. He's very...
01:10:01
Speaker
subtle, yeah muted. um and And he, don't know, it's always fun when a criminal, like, it's like, obviously I wouldn't kill him because then he wouldn't give me my money. Like, I don't know when they are just like, you're the dumb one here.
01:10:19
Speaker
I'm not, you don't know how to be a criminal. I don't know. It's just yeah makes me laugh. But yeah, I also love this is like an Irish pub. It was like O'Leary's or something. Oh, and the other thing about him just being very out in the open, it seems that from the mentions of the names sean knows that knows these places and that they're extremely divy because it's like well do you want hepatitis a or c yes um so it must just be that kind of place where a criminal element is present yeah um yeah and it doesn't seem like it's it's really hidden i mean obviously from the fact that he just has his yeah out on the table but also sean like walks up to the bartender he's like i'm looking for frank and right the guy behind the bar is just like
01:11:06
Speaker
points his chin over towards Frank Legge. He's right there. like He might owe him money. Who knows? Yeah, and I love the transition. Yeah, maybe. um I love the transition into the scene because it is an Irish pub or bar and um there's like this like bagpipe-y music, like Celtic music playing in the background, which is fun and Christmassy.
01:11:28
Speaker
um Also makes me think of the Christmas jewels must be having. Oh, true. So, fun little detail. yeah ah yeah then he goes over to frank
01:11:43
Speaker
and accuses him of murder yep frank's like is unfazed by that yeah he's like um no like dead man dead men don't pay back debts injured men do o okay sir which honestly i mean yeah fair assessment yeah you're not wrong and um and he has now back because everybody could vouch that he was there that night correct correct so sean's like oh okay all right maybe it's not you found you but maybe it's not you and he he gets up to go after pointing out that the moving santa is creepy yes and frank says if you'll excuse me a paying customer is here yes
01:12:24
Speaker
And who is the paying customer but Mrs. Guster. Minnie Guster. Minnie Guster. With a fat wad of cash in her hand. man. Inside of an envelope.
01:12:34
Speaker
And she's like, oh. Yeah, she is. can't believe she's seeing Sean in this situation. can get it back. I know. And honestly, you know, all he really would need to pull is i psychically felt that you were going to be here.
01:12:48
Speaker
He's probably so thrown. I like he can only man come up with a reason. yeah And she doesn't really ask him for one. So he's working a case like that's true.
01:12:59
Speaker
yeah But she seems very thrown too. So I guess they were just like, ah, ah, ah. I do love, well, she explains how this happened. She made bet, one bet, and she lost.
01:13:12
Speaker
um But it was like a friend of a friend knew somebody and that somebody was Frank. And then I love that she leans over and she's like, I already told you this, Frank.
01:13:25
Speaker
That delivery is so good and And like so, it's so like. There's something kind of like old Hollywood about like the way she talks. I just love it.
01:13:36
Speaker
And something so like not criminal, which I love. That have to hold you, Frank, against the like. just like I said. Yeah, it's like she's. like making small talk with this guy who's just like I don't care about this yeah literally uh so good and yeah he's like it's one time it's never it's never gonna happen again yeah and she's very worried about the family finding out
01:14:07
Speaker
yeah and And Sean tells her that he senses that Mr. Guster will not be mad. Yeah. He won't understand. Keeping secret. was a momentary lapse in judgment.
01:14:19
Speaker
Yes. Not a vice. Because she's like, she calls it her vice. Yeah, even though a vice definitely has the the connotation of like a recurrent thing.
01:14:30
Speaker
But she clearly feels so... ashamed about about that one time it's like it's very big to her yes yeah sean ends up essentially saying like he's not going to tell anyone right like it'll be fine though which is also essentially what ended up happening with mr guster like i'm not i'm not gonna say anything but it'll be fine and cut to christmas morning with our sponge rum cake rum sponge cake parfait yes fun contrast i'm just thinking of like adult sean to child sean child sean who was up so early yes um and this now sean is like groggily coming down the stairs and everybody's already deep into their rum cake I know they're all like dressed and looking yeah nice and, you know, done up as people often do um around the holidays.
01:15:20
Speaker
And yeah, his hair's all disheveled. He's still in his PJs. He's like, what's everyone doing down here? It's barely light out. Barely light out.
01:15:31
Speaker
Which, yes, I feel like as an adult, you're just like, it's so early do anything. But they all start like exchanging presents and You know, doing the Christmas kind of a thing.
01:15:45
Speaker
And we see the kids, Gus and Joy, go over to their stockings looking for their Christmas money, even though, you know, like they don't have to do this. They don't have do this.
01:15:57
Speaker
Yeah. Which I also do. Wait, it's empty. Yes. Which is so, like... That's such like a child yeah family thing to do to be like, oh, like you didn't need to give me. Why didn't you give me? Yeah. The expectation of something happening. I also think it's a fun like continuation of last Christmas episode how like they had such a kind of conflict about them always trying to baby Gus and give him money and take care of him and stuff. And Gus was like, no, i'm going to start giving you money.
01:16:26
Speaker
Yes. yeah and um And then this time around. It's kind of a similar, like, you know, like, I can't believe you're going to miss money again. And then they don't. and they're like, hey, hold on.
01:16:39
Speaker
I need money. And then this this leads to everyone confessing yeah all of their secrets, which starts off very well and very quickly devolves into not confessing.
01:16:49
Speaker
very well yeah at first they're like oh it's okay yeah and then his uh lay or no mrs guster admits for gambling yes momentary lapse in judgment it's okay and then mr guster is like i was laid off and they're and they're very entertained by it they are oh yeah it's hilarious that she found that she found a bookie yeah yeah i' Just cracking up.
01:17:13
Speaker
And then, yeah, they find out about Gus's dad's job. They're all hugging because it's all going to be okay. yeah And Joy is so inspired by my gosh that that showcase of love. Because she says, well,
01:17:31
Speaker
um Sean and I wanted to tell you that we slept together 10 years ago. She doesn't say slept here together. um And we'd like to start things up again. And they're like, what?
01:17:43
Speaker
Yeah, so bad. Everyone just gets mad. And then that also like pulls at the threads of yes the forgiveness that we just saw. Yes. And everyone goes like freaking right for the jugular. Yeah.
01:17:56
Speaker
One of them's like, at least I have a job. The mom says that him. The dad. don't have a job. Yeah. And Gus's dad says, what? God don't like ugly.
01:18:08
Speaker
I know. I think he's talking about like inside ugliness. Yes. Yes. But it is very funny. And and she's like, oh, no, he didn't. And then, yeah, so they kind of just like leave the room. And

Christmas at Henry's House

01:18:21
Speaker
then Gus is furious, obviously, and kicks Sean out.
01:18:26
Speaker
Yep. We the forehead, ears. And yeah, everyone just ends up scattering. essentially It's tough. Yeah. And then finally, to Henry's house.
01:18:40
Speaker
Which and we only were at Henry's house for like two minutes, but I am obsessed with like this idea of Henry entertaining a bunch of his lodge friends. Same. And like, it was so festive in there.
01:18:52
Speaker
Like how freaking cute. I know. Henry loves Christmas. He must love Christmas. Like just thinking about the flashback and then this. Sean wasn't even coming over. Like it seemed like they barely even had plans. Like maybe they were going exchange gifts.
01:19:06
Speaker
But like he was really doing it for himself and his friends. Totally. It was so cute. love. I also love the way Christmas is presented in this episode as like, I don't know. There's very special, something very special about like all being in kind of the same town and going a lot of different places and like, yeah, just like, like you were talking about different types of love, like really like valuing your different relationships, like seeing your friends and your family and your, your very close family friends, like who've been a part of your life, like Sean and the Gusters.
01:19:43
Speaker
yeah. And then, like, Sean pulls Jules away. yeah And she's like, it's fine. Like, I don't know. They just, like, they all just want to be together. And it's very sweet. And I just, and I love that.
01:19:57
Speaker
Yeah, I would have loved to see, like, Gus come over to Henry's also, like, during all this and see, like. what the the kind of dynamic would have been there too. Cause I, have we seen, oh yeah, we must have, right? Has Gus been to Henry's during the holidays?
01:20:13
Speaker
Last year we, at the end, like moment that episode ends with them all being at Henry's. Oh, okay. And they see, and they see the exchange of gifts and Gus's parents are very like thrown. Cause they,
01:20:32
Speaker
That episode, they don't like Sean, right? Or they think he's a bad influence. Yes, yes. Because Sean has prevented Gus from yes getting married and stuff that apparently.
01:20:43
Speaker
Yeah. point Yeah, and so they all go over to Henry's and they see that. And then there is that sweet moment with Henry and Sean where he actually gives him something nice, even though he still won their game.
01:20:55
Speaker
Yes. um And that was one thing I felt was missing. feel like we're left on such a sad note i agree henry looks so sad and he didn't even get anything i know i was waiting for sean to like pop back into the frame and be like yeah i would have liked i mean i'm gonna assume that that did happen yeah but he had a real gift for henry um but yeah so yeah so yeah so we're at henry's
01:21:25
Speaker
Yes. We get some sage wisdom from the Henmeister. um Essentially saying that, you know, of course, Gus is going to overreact to all of this. Sean Cuseman.
01:21:36
Speaker
He's not just your best friend. He's your partner. And like a partner bond is like stronger than all other bonds, um which is like super early foreshadowing for essentially what's going to happen later for Henry.
01:21:49
Speaker
um

Criminal Connections and Family Festivities

01:21:50
Speaker
But talks about Gus and Sean and also... ted and carl because this causes sean to start thinking well maybe there was a third partner and that's a funny moment too because i had like watching it i was thinking he was going to be like oh it was carl right me too that's what he's like oh there's another partner which just seems like kind of a leap i would agree yes i well i think the the real thing that gets him to
01:22:22
Speaker
Like I could imagine that being like ah just a little nugget in the back of his head. Like maybe it's Carl, maybe it's somebody else. But then once he's with Jules in the next scene, they end up finding that when Jules looked through all of his, all of Carl's like records, like police records, he was associated with Moncrief Johnson Moncrief Johnson was the guy who punched him. So then I feel like it just solidifies all of it.
01:22:49
Speaker
For sure. Oh, okay. They were. They were a triad. Yeah. um Yeah. It's also funny that, like, Carl didn't let on that there was a third person who's mad at them.
01:23:03
Speaker
Knowing that he yeah he they just had a fight. Well, right. and And knowing that he was the person who hit him. like Yeah. He would say, oh, hey, by the way, the guy who punched me used to be my partner. Maybe he killed Ted.
01:23:16
Speaker
like i really Yeah. That would have been the clear next Next point. but Maybe he just has his debt on his mind. Right. Maybe he's just worried about Brittany's well-being and his well-being. I mean, who who knows?
01:23:32
Speaker
Yeah. So.
01:23:38
Speaker
I thought it was funny. Sean says, Carl and Ted must have had another partner. And Henry's like, Carl and Ted, how many relatives does Augusters have? Oh, my gosh. Yeah. So funny. Henry's just trying to keep up.
01:23:50
Speaker
Yep. So then we go to the police station and Sean has pulled Jules away from her family. And he's sorry about that. And Jules is in her little plaid. Of course, for her Scottish Christmas.
01:24:03
Speaker
Yeah, you know, it is kind of fun now. that I think about it, each Christmas we've been with a different family. It started off with Jules' family. Then it was with Sean's family, right at Henry's house.
01:24:13
Speaker
And now we're at the Gusters' family. Yeah, I mean, we the Gusters were a big part of the last one too. I kind of, it's kind of interesting that like, The Gusters, we like only see them at Christmas.
01:24:25
Speaker
That's true. Yeah. I don't know if we really see them again. i mean, i know we see the mom in the. um Dream one, right? Yeah. The nightmare on Elm Street one. Because she is so creepy in that. oh my gosh. She's so creepy in that.
01:24:41
Speaker
Now that you mentioned that, i'm I'm going to be like. We're in the next couple of moments. She does. She's so good at like, because there's such this, this, like what you were talking about with the bookie, like she's so sweet. And like the way she, there's like, just this lovely sweetness to how she talks. And so it's like, so great when she says something biting, or getting really creepy in that episode, it like works so well.
01:25:08
Speaker
Well, it's like the, have you, um have you ever heard, i don't know if this is like an actual thing, but I feel like it must be. um I heard someone once say like, what's creepier?
01:25:18
Speaker
Like a clown swinging on a swing, looking at you strange or a small child swinging on a swing, looking at you strange. Like there's something kind of extra creepy about like someone sweet or something sweet being like I do feel like a clown would be terrifying in that situation. Clowns are terrifying just in general. So maybe it wasn't a clown. but Do you know what mean? like Yeah.
01:25:45
Speaker
Yeah. the The juxtaposition of the sweetness and the uncanniness almost makes it creepier. Like the shining twins. Yes, exactly. Which oh well'll we'll get some of that reference too. We'll have to watch the shining.
01:26:00
Speaker
Yeah, so they, as you said, they kind of piece together the sitch with this scene. Sean and Jules pouring over. Oh, and Jules does say like, you know, it's fine.
01:26:12
Speaker
And she's like, wait, where's Gus? Because it's kind of like, why do you even need me? And he tells her how
01:26:22
Speaker
He found out that slept with his sister, however he said And she's like, Ew. Love.
01:26:32
Speaker
love you. Yeah. don't worry was way before i met you there are some fun reactions like this spectrum of reactions to this news yes like henry being like you know that's a betrayal basically and then jules but not shocked yeah i feel like for jules it's like that's basically like your sister like yeah that's weird yeah gross um
01:26:58
Speaker
Yeah, and I think Gus kind of feels the same. Gus is like, this is, like, we've both known this person since we were little, and it's my sister. Yeah, I mean, he is so extreme about her.
01:27:10
Speaker
And I also love, too, when she does tell him in that scene, few scenes back, that he says, you slept with my best friend. Like, he's just as mad at her.
01:27:21
Speaker
yes Well, not just as mad, but, like, he's a mad at her for sleep sleeping with his best friend. So it's, like, he's very protective of both those relationships. Yeah. And mad both of them for betraying them.
01:27:36
Speaker
Yeah. I think that's fair. Yeah.
01:27:41
Speaker
um But yeah, and then we have the, this before I knew you, which is cute. And it's cute how like serious Jules is about, it won't.
01:27:52
Speaker
Yeah. And gosh, the, this game they're playing is so wild. I know. They're talking about it, but they're not, but they're in there, you know, they, they both know it's real, but also she's like, it's not happening.
01:28:10
Speaker
Which we have talked about with her a lot, like, and how we see from her that she kind of, you know, she kind of gets ahead of herself almost and then she's like, it's not happening. And, like, it's like, cut her off.
01:28:25
Speaker
So. Yeah. Yeah. Well, and you know, we were just talking last episode about how they do the whole two steps forward, one step back thing. This is a whole nother, like, one step forward, two steps back. Maybe not even a step forward. Maybe just two steps back. I know. Yeah. Two steps back because we had two steps back last time. we Two more steps back this time.
01:28:44
Speaker
Well, actually, maybe in the la the end of the episode, we took our step back again because they had their old date. Right. And then our step forward. And then. step Yeah. Our step forward and then.
01:28:57
Speaker
Now we're stepping back again. Yes. And now we're stepping one step back again. follow that? Yes, I did. Two steps back, one step forward, one step back. Yes.
01:29:06
Speaker
oh Which makes sense because it can happen. Not going to happen yet. Not yet. We've still got some time. Yeah. So I think, and then Jules says, I'm going to get Lassie.
01:29:20
Speaker
Sean's going to mourn Carl. And then we cut to Santa, home from his shift, presumably. Yeah. Walking around his apartment. Creepy guy coming in.
01:29:32
Speaker
Mon creep. Mon creep. You know what i mean? Uh-huh. Yeah. With a knife. Yeah. And he draws it and then, boom, it's Lassie.
01:29:44
Speaker
Ha-ha. He pulls a gun on him. Quick moves from Lassie. Not even. Yeah. I'm curious, like, was that all, like, auditory? Like. Must have been, I feel Yeah. must have instincts yeah totally um and yeah i love that we skipped i don't know that we skip a right to yeah yes i agree because it makes the it makes the gag all that more real like the first time that you watch it you know yeah like oh my god you think it's gonna be carl you know they just ran off to get these people and like warn everybody and then boom it's already happening
01:30:18
Speaker
Right, yeah, and Lassie's like the perfect the perfect person for this because he's very much the same like kind of build as Carl. who So he looks very much like him. Finally, an undercover position that Lassie can excel in.
01:30:30
Speaker
Yay! No mustaches involved. Or noses, or f prosthetic noses. Yeah. so And yeah, they they get him, they ambush him. He's taken into custody.
01:30:42
Speaker
I do feel like there's something very ah violent and personal about a knife. Ooh, yeah. This man. Very true. this man Like, not that guns aren't violent. Obviously, they are. But you can, you know, shoot someone from a very far distance. Where a knife, you got to be, like, right up on someone. and And he... And it could take a little time. Yeah. ah Multiple stabs and whatnot, you know? Yeah. Yeah. We didn't really talk about, like, what pissed this guy off so much. But he just got out of jail.
01:31:11
Speaker
Oh, yes. Because Ted, the murder victim, anne Carl, Santa, turned state's evidence against him because they were all partners. And then Mong Prief was ah using violence, which was not their m MO.
01:31:29
Speaker
And they were uncomfortable with that. So they like sold him out. um And now he's out of jail and he's getting his revenge. Yes. So, yeah, that is personal. Mm hmm.
01:31:41
Speaker
Yeah, very. So good. I mean, honestly, good thing he didn't have a gun because if he did, Lassie likely wouldn't have been able to hear him getting close. But they got him. So that's really all that matters.
01:31:52
Speaker
And we're outside. We see that Brittany and Carl are safe. by the police and it's like a christmas miracle that everyone is everyone's okay um i do love this little wallet bit that starts yes that we see them britney hugs sean to say thank you and you know she she steps back and sean like holds out his hand and she drops the wallet his wallet that she just took out of his back pocket into his hand
01:32:26
Speaker
Yeah, darn. And then, you know, they they talk whatever, Jules kind of pulls Brittany away because she's like, let's go, you know, let's go over here. And Sean stops Carl for a second and gives him his sage wisdom or serious shan moment yes and i one of the lines that i love here is you know i don't have any children i'm not a father or an uncle or even a godfather i think children are sticky oh god they kind are um and then of course at the end of all this carl gives him a hug and it seems so very sincere and he begins to walk away and sean's like carl and he gives him the wallet like father like daughter
01:33:06
Speaker
And I love that they have a kind of rapport. yeah three of them now where Sean can just be like, give it back. yeah Give me wallet. You're going to be mad, but give it back.
01:33:18
Speaker
yes
01:33:21
Speaker
Yeah, too funny. Yep, so everything is wrapped up nicely. Yeah. But we missed Gus. Aww. So

Friendship and Gift Traditions

01:33:31
Speaker
Sean goes back to the Gusters and knocks on the door and Gus looks, it seems like happy times in there. He's like mid-laughter.
01:33:40
Speaker
Yes. And he opens it and he gets all angry. john's like ah feel a And Gus is like, good enough for me. Come on in.
01:33:54
Speaker
Which like, it's just so sweet. I don't know. I feel like that's only something that like best friends would do. You know what i mean? and Like I know they kind of talk about it like with family, like the Gusters talk about their beliefs about family and forgiveness and you can get as mad as you want as long as you put the same amount of energy yes into working things out. And so it seems like, yeah, it seems like they kind of,
01:34:22
Speaker
you know While Sean was away, they kind of worked through this yes themselves. Yes. And they're still I don't think they want it to happen again.
01:34:35
Speaker
no But they're like over the past. yeah And also fun. Gus's dad is like, I don't know what you're going to but you got to get the hell out of here.
01:34:48
Speaker
Yeah. Not stay at my house when my daughter's here. No, thank you. And so I guess they must like have Christmas dinner because it looks like they're eating. Seems like it. Yeah. Yeah.
01:34:59
Speaker
And then our last little scene is Sean and Henry, of course, having their traditional. Yes. And Henry's not alone now because. i know. He started a little fight between all his friends. Freaking love this.
01:35:13
Speaker
It's just so. It just feels like such a like. old friends and old men old man yeah argument yeah i said someone's wife was a hippie and then it devolved into two different camps of hippie and non-hippie and we're arguing with each other about whether she's hippie or not so i just sent them all home okay
01:35:37
Speaker
and it also feels like something that henry would like entertain for a little and then be like this is too much like no we're not doing this anymore so they They do the gift exchange and I love, it always cracks me up that Henry like starts this off by pushing but just a bunch of shit off the table and make and dropping the box on.
01:35:57
Speaker
And then of course, Sean has to do the exact same thing. Push all the shit off his side of the table. What a mess. Put his big box on. And yeah, I love this gift exchange, but at the same time, I'm like,
01:36:10
Speaker
I just need it in one more moment. I know. Yes. Just, I need one extra little... Even just like a hand popping into the shot. Yeah. Just be like, here go. Need some sweetness. Because it does like, Henry does look sad when we black.
01:36:24
Speaker
Well, I would be too. Yeah. Because basically, so they put their boxes, they're identical. And then Henry's like, you're so predictable. Yes. As they both lift it off and they have an identical box inside. Yes.
01:36:36
Speaker
And then. and knew you were going to do this. And they pull out another box that are also identical. And Henry's finally like, you didn't get me the same iPhone I got you, did you? And Sean is like, no, I got you the iPhone. Does he call it skin?
01:36:52
Speaker
Skin. Psych iPhone skin. Oh, but you don't have an iPhone, so I'll take that. And Henry gets nothing and Sean leaves. Which, like,

Looking Forward and Acknowledgements

01:37:03
Speaker
Again, i could see for Sean, that's like a power play. Yeah. To be like, I knew what you were going get me so far in advance that I got myself something for you to take for myself when you gave me the thing.
01:37:15
Speaker
But also, here's your actual present. Yeah. Which is what we last time. and so yeah. I was like. We never saw the actual present. Yeah. So, I hope there was something. Yes. I would hope so.
01:37:26
Speaker

01:37:39
Speaker

01:37:52
Speaker
who There's so many like fun fun little things that happened it's another great like setting episode yeah yes and feeling very connected to the water like yeah being in santa barbara on the coast um yeah should be fun i don't think we're watching anything for this either so just a chill yeah I can't think of anything that would with it.
01:38:18
Speaker
I know. Our first two in a while. I know. Not watching. It's funny. and like I feel like we we must be watching something. like is it Did we ever do episodes where we didn't watch something? this always been like? I forgot what this was like.
01:38:34
Speaker
