Who the hell told you tonight was Open Mic Night?

Introducing MVP Marco and Feedback from Pilot

00:00:21
Speaker
Hello everyone. Welcome back to Open Mic with the MVP Marco.
00:00:28
Speaker
Of course, I'm the MVP Marco. Hopefully you got to listen to my pilot episode I did last week with the lovely and talented Mrs. MVP. Got some pretty good feedback from it, so if you definitely haven't heard it yet, you definitely go out and go find it. It's in the Chick Foley feed.

Mrs. MVP's Wrestling Fandom and Meeting Mick Foley

00:00:48
Speaker
It was a real experience having the wife on a podcast. That's one-on-one talking about wrestling, which is obviously not her forte, but she shared some of her wrestling fandom from the past and even told a story about meeting the hardcore legend Mick Foley.

Sponsorship by Pod Foundation

00:01:05

So definitely check that out.
00:01:08

Guest Introduction: Sheena Phelps aka Chick Foley

00:01:43
Speaker
So let's dive right in. For the premiere episode, not to take anything away from the wife, you know, she was great on the pilot, but this is the first official premiere episode of Open Mic.
00:01:57
Speaker
And I would have none other than the lovely and talented, also, Sheena Phelps, a.k.a. Chick Foley.

Technical Challenges and Seth's Contribution

00:02:06
Speaker
Hey, Marco. I'm stoked to be here. You had a little brand-brand on the intro. I get to follow Kim. So yeah, this is a good day for me. And it feels really weird being on the other side. You know what I mean? Usually, it's like a complete collaboration. And now, you know, like I'm in the hot seat, so.
00:02:22
Speaker
Yeah, definitely. And, uh, I was actually thinking about that early. I was like, I was kind of like in Seth's position, like setting up the, uh, setting up the Zincaster and all the things. I'm like, Oh man, he goes to, uh, goes through a lot of stuff. Oh, I know. Yeah. He puts all those things

Marco's Guest Wish: Brandy

00:02:39
Speaker
in the soundboard. You guys, if I, if I didn't have, you know, the, the heel husband here with tech wise, there would, there would be no chick fully show. I mean, I did it for a while without him, but it was just, you know,
00:02:49
Speaker
It's much better that the audio the tech the tech side of it all goes much smoother with with the heel husband on board for sure Oh, yeah, definitely that I would have as many sounds That man loves an audio clip let me tell you
00:03:06
Speaker
Oh, yeah, definitely. I would be surprised maybe later on down the line, maybe I'll see if I can add some stuff. I'll stick with just the opening and then I'll have Seth do the closeouts. I was actually talking to you before this. I want to get the rest of that, or the end of Low Brand Brands promo. Yeah, you got to have a heifer drop.
00:03:29
Speaker
Yeah, so we'll work with Seth and see if we can get that going. If there's an audio clip on the internet, the heel

Sheena's Chick Foley Origin Story

00:03:38
Speaker
husband can find it and source it. So if it's out there, he can make it happen.
00:03:43
Speaker
I mean, the dream, the goal is to, you know, hopefully one day, uh, Brandy hair's a show and you know, if she wants to be a part of it and, uh, get interviewed by the MVP. So that'd be, that'd be pretty awesome. I mean, just put the feelers out there in the universe. Yeah. A little brand brand has been a, uh, has been a big part of the chick fully shows since the early days. She was a star of the show. She was like the, the official, like the unofficial fourth member for three or four months. Yeah. A little brand brand was like the unofficial fourth member.
00:04:13
Speaker
Oh, man. Let's dive into a little bit of history. On the Chick-Fully show, we probably hit on some historical aspects of the Chick-Fully name and the Instagram when it was started. But for those that haven't heard or
00:04:38
Speaker
they'd have to dig way back into the Chick Foley show archives to actually get all that information. And it's kind of like spread out. So it's like one episode where we sat down and talk about the whole inception and everything. Exactly. And sometimes if you're not listening right, you got kids distracting in the background, you got your coworker coming up, you might miss some things as you're listening to the main Chick Foley show. Yeah, definitely. So the name Chick Foley,
00:05:08
Speaker
Can you, uh, just, just elaborate on, you don't have to go into details, but yeah, just elaborate on where the chick Foley name came from and, you know, it's inception.

Evolution of Chick Foley's Instagram

00:05:18
Speaker
Yeah. It's so funny. Um, you know, chick Foley just kind of like came out of total happenstance. You know, uh, we were at WrestleMania 31. It was me, Seth, uh, the fig God, Jordan Wells. If you listened to our flagship show, you know, Jordan, um, and his lovely wife, Ari. So we all went to WrestleMania 31 in California.
00:05:36
Speaker
And it was the night before mania and where we were in Santa Clara, San Jose, I don't remember which part we were in. Anyway, there was this big strip of like really nice like bars and clubs and all this stuff, right? So it was like, we had marked off some places that we wanted to go and just kind of do like a bar crawl the night before WrestleMania.
00:05:56
Speaker
And we call it the mania mile bar crawl. So we had hit a few bars. We were walking around. I had on, um, you know, my full, like kind of like Mick Foley cactus Jack cosplay. Right. So I had on like, you know, the wanted dead, um, you know, classic Mick Foley t-shirt.
00:06:12
Speaker
sleeves cut off. I had on a, you know, buffalo plaid vest over top of it. We're walking around, you know, feeling a little buzz. Everybody else around us is buzzed or drunk too. And there was this Irish guy sitting out on the patio of one of the bars that we passed by. And we're just walking, you know, not paying any attention. And all of a sudden this guy yells out and he says, Hey, Chick Foley.
00:06:36
Speaker
And I don't know why. I mean, you can ask Seth, I love a good play on words or a good rhyme. You know what I mean? I pop for that all the time. And so it was just funny. And then Jordan called me Chick Foley, like the rest of the weekend. So he actually called me Chick Foley. He's like, Chick Foley. So he called me Chick Foley the rest of the weekend. And then after we got home,
00:06:59
Speaker
Uh, from that amazing WrestleMania, the highest of the century, like one of the best manias ever, in my opinion. Um, I was on such a high, right? Like just being around just all wrestling fans, you know, because wrestling is one of those things I think we all, you know, if you listen to the flagship show, you know, that we've all kind of been in and out of our wrestling fandom over the years. You know, Seth and I came back into the fold in 2014 when the network launched. And then we went to our first WrestleMania that next year, we were like in hook line and sinker, you know, I mean, we were, we were back.
00:07:29
Speaker
And it was just so invigorating to be around so many just like hardcore, passionate wrestling fans that I came home and I have my Sheena account, my normal, typical account.

Trolling Samoa Joe and Community Engagement

00:07:42
Speaker
But I was like, I'm going to start something, you know, because my normal people, my family and friends and stuff, like, you know, I'm just posting like dash on photos and beach photos because we lived in Hawaii and stuff. They are not going to care about all my WrestleMania photos and like nerdy, nerdy wrestling stuff. And in fact, they're probably going to think I'm like this like weirdo, right?
00:07:59
Speaker
So I created an account and I just happened to look and see if chick Foley was available. And this was before like the, the boom of Instagram, right? Like Instagram had just gotten video like the year before or something like that. And, uh, I mean, it was like, Instagram was not what it was back then. So I checked and I was like, chick Foley, it was available. Got it. Made my first post, um, and then posted all of our WrestleMania photos and, uh, you know, that's, that's where it started.
00:08:25
Speaker
Awesome, but yeah, no, it's funny that you mentioned like an Irish gentleman yelled out Chick Foley. So in Miami, what was it? WrestleMania 20, was it 27? 27? Maybe. Or was it rockin' scene of the first, first time for the last time, for the first time, as they call it? But yeah, so we're actually, we were at a bar,
00:08:50
Speaker
before media, same thing. These Scottish gentlemen, kilts and everything, straight from Scotland, they come up to us. I think one of my friends is wearing a John Cena shirt. He was basically just like, oh, where are you guys from? Oh, I'm from Boston. He's like, oh, John Cena sucks. John Cena sucks. The rock, the rock. It was hilarious. They're like, oh, and then they ended up taking pictures with us.
00:09:14
Speaker
Uh, I think my buddy, my buddy has a picture, but, uh, it was, it's just, it's just funny though. Like, they're like, yeah, we, we, I think they feel like I think he's at 17 or 18 hours.

Marco's Journey to Chick Foley Team

00:09:23
Speaker
Yeah. So that was like, so yeah, that was WrestleMania 28, right? But is that what you said? Rockford, yeah. Um,
00:09:29
Speaker
It's crazy how far people come from Mania. Mania 33 that Seth and I went to, I think these guys were Scottish or Irish. I can't remember. I remember thinking these guys flew all the way over here. It was just two guys. Just to watch WrestleMania. It just blew my freaking mind. How mad were they when they found out that it wasn't the last time?
00:09:54
Speaker
That's the only time we're going to see Rock and Cena. We got to come now. Exactly. Yeah. Two years later. At 33, they were like, oh, man, we're getting to see the Undertaker retire. And then there was like, no, no, he didn't. He didn't retire. So bad.
00:10:11
Speaker
But yeah, so just to go back to the introduction part of it, of the Chick Foley IG. So from what I remember, like you said, it was just like, like you said, there was no video really on Instagram. It was like the early stages, even like for me, even like- There was no stories. Yeah, there was nothing.
00:10:29
Speaker
There was no wrestling related content as much that I was searching for. I would follow, obviously, WWE and all the staples. Back in those days, that was like 2015 for me. I know there were people out there posting wrestling content, but it wasn't easy to find. It wasn't Reddit where it's just Reddit threads and stuff like that just popping off all the time. There wasn't a ton of exclusive wrestling content on Instagram like there is now.
00:10:54
Speaker
Yeah, yeah. And then like, obviously, you know, just searching, I think I found you first, and then the wrestling classic, because I think I found the wrestling classic through you. Yes, I had the wrestling classic t shirt. Yeah, Justin, he was one of the first people that I followed. So when I started my account, he was just getting his account up and running. So he had had his account a little longer than I had had mine.
00:11:18
Speaker
Um, and I just loved, I loved his content. Like I, I just thought it was just always so interesting and so captivating. And, um, it was like a lot of old stuff. He loves macho man, Randy Savage. So there was a ton of, ton of macho man clips, ton of Bret Hart clips. Um, I just, I, you know, and Justin and I connected early on and he's, yeah, he's a great guy and I've loved just watching his account grow and seeing all the projects and stuff that he's, that he's gotten into since then. And you know, it's funny because, you know, I made that.
00:11:45
Speaker
you know, IG account with no intention of it ever like growing at all, you know, and, um, really after I had posted my WrestleMania photos, um, from that weekend, I really like used Instagram, like my chick Foley Instagram as like a place to share, um, people who were doing like wrestling art and like wrestling creators and people who were doing really, really creative stuff in the wrestling space, because
00:12:10
Speaker
I'm really into that. I'm not super artistic in the sense of like drawing or creating or you know, that kind of stuff, you know, and I just really, you know, I don't want to say envy, but I just really like empowered by people like that. They just have that talent and really just kind of go for it.
00:12:27
Speaker
Um, and so I was sharing people who were like, you know, making wrestling art and everything. Cause that was kind of my passion. Then I started sharing like, you know, stuff about the weekly shows and it just kind of evolved over time, you know, but I met guys like, you know, Nick, um, from extra cooler, you know, I remember when he was first getting his account started and you know, it's just, it's been so cool to like see all these people just kind of like start and then their accounts grow and you know, I don't know.

Dedication and Challenges in Podcasting

00:12:51
Speaker
And then donut glow. I love him. Um, the wrestling classic.
00:12:54
Speaker
uh, Lance from for the title. Those are some creators that I just absolutely loved from the jump. Um, and obviously I had a bunch of like wrestling marks that I just talked to and stuff, but as far as like creators and stuff like they were, they were the first ones that I can remember following.
00:13:09
Speaker
Yeah, because like I said, when I first started to get on Instagram and looking around and stuff and looking for wrestling content, like I said, it was literally just you and the wrestling classic, essentially. You guys are like the only ones that I found. And then obviously, like you said, it evolved and grew and stuff like that. And I definitely love
00:13:31
Speaker
Justin's account because he named it after the wrestling, I'm pretty sure he named it after wrestling, the actual wrestling classic, which was the tournament that the WWF had back in, I think it was like 1985 or something like that. So that kind of caught my eye there and I was like, huh, I was like, so I started following him and I love this takes, I love the stuff that he posted. And then with you, you're like the only
00:13:59
Speaker
from what i seen was you were the only like female wrestling account yeah that i they might have been there's definitely i'm sure there were definitely more i don't think i'm like the first i think i think it's just it i think it's just it was such a rarity especially at that time i mean now there's tons of
00:14:15
Speaker
So like women and stuff like that in the wrestling

Sheena's Influence and Motivation

00:14:18
Speaker
space and I love to see it like women just doing like the coolest like, you know Over the moonsault, you know, we just talked about her before we started the show like her cosplays are amazing Brittany Sacco always did such incredible cosplays There's just so many awesome like bright women in the in the wrestling space and I just I just love to see it and um, but I I do feel like I was one of the first
00:14:42
Speaker
Instagram accounts to really like try to build a wrestling following. I mean, obviously you had, you know, like celebrities and stuff, you know what I mean? They were like doing it, but just like, just a normie like me, just a normal person, um, just to, to be in there. And I think it was just such a, you know, novelty to have a woman in, uh, in the wrestling space. But yeah, it's pretty cool. I constantly, I don't, not so much anymore.
00:15:03
Speaker
But in the beginning, I constantly got asked if I was Mick's daughter or if I was related to Mick. I was just like, no. I thought it was funny that just because my name was Chick Foley, that people will be like, oh, that's got to be Mick's daughter, right? That's not a bad thing to have that type of- No, that sort of lineage. No, I'll take it. I wish I was partially that hardcore. Had a little bit of hardcore sprinkled in.
00:15:31
Speaker
But yeah, one of the things that I noticed too with the account was as I was searching and started adding more and going through different accounts back then, there was a lot of women doing wrestling accounts, but they were mainly just doing modeling type stuff. It was modeling stuff.
00:15:54
Speaker
They were being posers. Not that that's a bad thing. Do whatever you want. Do what you do. Yeah. Yeah, do what you do. But at the same time, as a wrestling fan, you want to go to a page for content, not just for someone modeling a shirt and then that's it. Yeah. Let me just pull back the curtain here a little bit. Because I always got so, speaking of just Instagram models, I remember when we first started partnering with Chalk Line and some amazing brands that we love.
00:16:23
Speaker
love, love, love chalk line. And you know, we would get some packages and stuff from them. And I would be like, Seth, we would go out and I would be like, feel so awkward because you know, like, you know, you got the Instagram models and they're just making it look so easy going out and like, you know, modeling these like pieces of clothes.
00:16:40
Speaker
Me and Seth got in so many arguments because he'd be like, why are you being so awkward? Because it is awkward. I'm like, I don't know what to do with my hands. What do I turn this way? It was always so awkward. I was never, I was not born. Maybe in another life, I was not born to be an Instagram model. I'm just too, it's just not in my blood. I don't have that flow. I don't have that ability.
00:17:08
Speaker
Yeah, it's I'm just I'm just a normie. Yeah, because that was one of the obviously that was one of the things I noticed too at the beginning was you like sponsoring a lot of stuff like, and you know, taking a lot of like, you know, pictures in that sense. And then like, it's like, like you said, it grew like you like started posting, like you said about the weekly shows and then paper views and then giving you thoughts on stuff. And that's when you know, that's when
00:17:31
Speaker
I really caught on.

Sheena's Interests Beyond Wrestling

00:17:33
Speaker
I was like, okay, she's just not, you know, on there just, you know, promoting stuff. She's actually, she's actually, you know, given her thoughts on what's happening. And then obviously, you know, you get into it with the with the Samoa Joe. Oh, yeah, the Samoa Joe, the Samoa Joe gimmick lasted a few years for sure.
00:17:50
Speaker
He was my arch nemesis early on. If you've been here since the Samoa Joe days, I want to just give you a hug and give you a pat on the back for being one of the longtime Chick-Fully fans and surviving all my trollage over the years for all the Joe fans that stuck with me through all the Joe trolling years.
00:18:10
Speaker
I know, right. And I mean, that, I mean, that was one of them. I wouldn't see posts and I'd be like, why the hell she hate this, hate this dude. So did he like snubber out of signing? Did she like, what did he do? Like, did he do something to her family? I mean, no, like the hatred is like, is immense. Yeah. I've told this story before, but just for anybody who may not have heard it, I'll just, I'll just, you know, briefly run it down. But essentially what had happened was I'm Samoa Joe.
00:18:35
Speaker
Injured Tyson kid. Um, I made one like sideways remark about Samoa Joe, you know, just being like, you know, an ass for, for, um, injuring Tyson kid. And, you know, I know injuries happen, right? So, but I was just making like an angry remark on the internet. Imagine that.
00:18:52
Speaker
Um, and, uh, the, the marks came out with her torches and pitchforks. Like the team Joe was like hot dude. They were so mad at me and they were like coming from my head. And so I was just like, Oh, you know what? I'm going to lean into this. Like these people want to make this big of a deal over a stupid comment that I made in a caption about Samoa Joe. Like.
00:19:15
Speaker
All right. You know, so for the next like three years, I just trolled the internet about my hatred for Joe. And what a, what a just big gooey asshole he was, you know, like, and all the time, here's, here's the, here's the part of it though. The whole time, like I really liked Samoa Joe. You know what I mean? Like I enjoyed Samoa Joe matches and I liked him as a wrestler. Um, but you know, on the, you know, I had to, I had to keep the gimmick alive, you know?
00:19:44
Speaker
Oh man. Yeah. Now I remember those days too. I was like, like I said, I was in my mind, I'm like, geez, she, she seems like she's like, she really hates us guy, but like, I used to go figure hunting and like hide the Joe figures or like turn them around backwards and you know, yeah, I would like go and like do it on a Instagram live or like in my Instagram stories. And yeah, people would just be like, what the, why do you hate Joe? You know, what did he do to you?
00:20:11
Speaker
Oh, my God. Yeah, actually, that brings me to the next part about that is with your account was you were really interactive, too, with like, with obviously not the negative. There's, you know, let's not focus on negative ed. The thing that reached out to me was like, when you when you would post something or comment something on your
00:20:29
Speaker
on a, on a, on one of your posts, you would actually respond. Yeah. And stuff like that. So the interaction. So I was like, that was like one of my first, like, things where you're just like, you know, oh, this person's actually like, this is an actual person. Like, they're not just like, some person just like, you know, just post and wrestling stuff. And that's it. They don't, they don't care. Like, they'll actually, you post something and they'll actually respond to you. So yeah, you know, the interaction part of that as well.
00:20:51
Speaker
I feel like I've just never been one of those people that use social media just to put myself over or just to shout things out into the ether. I still try to reply to so many comments and stuff now, but it's hard just with my lifestyle right now with kids and being busy and stuff like that.
00:21:11
Speaker
Especially in the early days in the first several years and even as my account was growing I just feel like it's so important to interact with the people who like there's so much crap on the internet that people could be looking at and the fact that they took a moment to You know write something on a post or some content that you made like I just feel like that's You know like take the take the time to reply to those people, you know And that what if you're not there to like build community and try to find people who are you know?
00:21:34
Speaker
into the same things that you are, then what are you doing, right? At that point, it just becomes like you're just marketing yourself, which is fine. That's what you want to do. But, you know, I was really there to just kind of like connect and find like-minded people and find people who would talk to me about wrestling because God knows like, you know, my family doesn't care. My other friends, they don't care about wrestling, you know? So like, if I'm talking about something that happened on Monday Night Raw, like I need to find a group of people who are going to be like back and forth with me on it, you know?
00:22:01
Speaker
Oh, yeah, definitely. And like I said, that was that was definitely one of the things that that drew me definitely to your page and obviously with the interactivity. And then when you obviously started the podcast, I was like, for me personally, I was like, Oh, let me try my hand. I like, you know, send in a question, see if you'll like, they'll read it on on the show and stuff like that. And he actually did. But then then I took it upon myself, you know what, I'm not gonna I don't want to send in like, like wrestling questions. I want to like,
00:22:29
Speaker
Like see if they'll actually answer like, you know, you know, like I said, how are I, I think one of the questions I sent you guys are like, how are you in high school? Like, yeah, I remember getting your mailbag questions. Yeah. So like that's, you know, Mark Markos comes into the fold of the chick Foley show. So you, you just, you quit being a spectator and you stepped, you stepped out of the, uh, the mail room, you know,
00:22:50
Speaker
Yeah, I know pretty much. I was like, you know what? I don't want to be in this mail room anymore. I want to try my hand at this a bit. But then obviously, you know, ended up being on the show and doing the I think it was like the WrestleMania 35. Yeah.
00:23:06
Speaker
Yeah, Kofi Media, we talked about all that stuff and then, you know, the rest is history. Yeah, so you were just sending in, I remember specifically, and that's how you got your name, the MVP, because sometimes we would ask for a listener mail. And this was before the days of the Chick-fil-A shows, you guys know it now, but it was
00:23:23
Speaker
you know, I would put some feelers out and be like, hey, send in some listener mail. And sometimes people respond, sometimes they wouldn't, you know, and, but we could always depend on Marco to send in at least a question for the listener mail. So on those weeks, especially that we didn't have any other listener mail that we had the MVP Marcus would be like, he's the MVP, you know, he's always going to send us a question no matter what. So he'd be like, wow, this is Marco writing in with your weekly question, you know, and of course the listener mail picked up and stuff after that. But, uh, at that point,
00:23:50
Speaker
You know, I was just like, you know, my, my brain was fried. I had a brand new baby. Um, and I was like, sometimes we would be, I would be like spouting stuff out and I'd be like, I don't know if that's correct or not. You know, I need a stat guy.

Future Growth of Chick Foley and Pod Foundation

00:24:03
Speaker
My husband, you know, at that time he, he hadn't joined the show yet, but, uh, he has an encyclopedic memory. Like he is just got this idetic like memory that is just like sickening, right? It doesn't matter how much I know about wrestling. He like, I still feel self-conscious because I'm like, there's no way I will ever know as much as
00:24:20
Speaker
as Seth, right? Because I just cannot retain that much wrestling like bullshittery in my mind. And I'm talking about like, not just like, you know, big WrestleMania matches. I'm talking about like the most obscure stuff, right? So sometimes I would like question myself, like, did I say, like, was that right? Was that what that date was? Was that that event? And I would always joke that we needed a stat guy, you know, all our friends over at Chipeat, Rosenberg.
00:24:47
Speaker
Uh, the masked man when they brought in Greg, I was like, we need a, we need a stat guy, you know, and we joked about it a few weeks. And he said, uh, and eventually, you know, Marco wrote in and was like, Hey, you know, if you're really serious about needing a stat guy, I would love to, to, to, you know, come on the show and, you know, be a stat guy and make sure you guys are on the, on the up and up. So.
00:25:09
Speaker
Yeah, that's kind of how Marco, he kind of came in and did his introductory episode and he never left. Yeah, pretty, pretty much stay just like, uh, like a fungus. I was just like, you can't get rid of me just kept going. And now you've expanded, you've expanded over into the term buckle universe. So you're like, you are, you're growing and spreading and.
00:25:31
Speaker
very turnbuckle guys. I know that the Chad's the Chad's like me so far. Shout out to the raw down. Yeah. Yeah, the raw down is a fun show to do. But I always I always tell them like, you know, I do love the raw down. But obviously, I love doing the chick fully show as well. I mean, yeah, it's all good. I love I love all of our shows. Yeah, no, they're great. But um, the other the other side of the suit is I want to ask you what
00:26:00
Speaker
What do you get the motivation to continue doing? Have you thought about how many years you've had this speech? Oh, man. When you put it like that, the motivation, it's waned at times. There's times when I'm like, I don't want to show up on social media and I don't want to post.
00:26:27
Speaker
You know, there's been, there's been stretches of time when the product has absolutely sucked. Even like before AEW came along and raw was just abysmal. And we would like have to talk about raw for every, you know, I was just like, God, bro. Like what am I doing here? Like, why am I wasting my time? Like if, if they don't care more about the product than this to like, why do I care? Why am I out here posting? You know, what am I doing here?
00:26:51
Speaker
Um, so there have been times where it's, where it's waned or times when, you know, I mean, I, I know most people only know me as like chick Foley and probably think, I only think about wrestling 24 hours a day, seven days a week. But, uh, you know, I am with a life and I have other things going on. And sometimes, you know, it's just, it's tough to fit it all in, but at the end of the day, like the.
00:27:10
Speaker
the people and the fun that we have. I love doing the Chick Foley show. I love our community. That's the stuff that keeps me hanging in there. You know what I mean? Because it would be easy just to be like, cash it in and be like, all right, this is the final chapter of Chick Foley and just stop showing up.
00:27:30
Speaker
Um, but I don't know. There's just so many people out there that I would, that I would miss that. I'm probably never going to meet in real life, you know, um, that, that just keep me coming back to the, to the interwebs. Yeah. Yeah, definitely. You know, like it's the thing with like wrestling too, is like, you got to like stick with it. Cause you know, it can't get better when it's going to get better. Yeah. Yeah. And like, you know, obviously those times are, they were abysmal, like definitely during like, you know, 2019, 2020.
00:27:58
Speaker
2021 got a little bit better, but still not that great. Now, obviously, there's a new era. We're living in a post-end of the world thing where there's no Vince McMahon, which is still the weirdest thing imaginable. It is still the weirdest thing, yeah. But it just goes to show,
00:28:19
Speaker
We're all human at the end of the day. We talked about this before, doing these shows and setting up and everything, it's not easy. It's literally the hardest thing, even with the raw down. Yeah. How many podcasts never make it past?
00:28:34
Speaker
a couple of episodes. Like there's, do you know how many podcasts are out there in the Apple scope, like Apple iTunes or Apple podcasts that literally like three episodes, you know, like that never continued on, you know, because it is, it's a labor of love. It's, you know, and keeping the social media account, like that's, you know, like I'm sure I could throw up posts, you know, whenever and that'd be fine. But yeah, the podcast showing up every week. And that's why
00:28:59
Speaker
You know, and I know there's been weeks when we haven't had shows and stuff like that, but I mean, we've been consistent for the better part of what, 2018. So like three to an 18, nine, 20, 21, almost four years, you know, coming up on four years. And, you know, it's.
00:29:14
Speaker
I'm proud of us. I think it's, it's pretty awesome through all the things that we've been through. Like, you know, you've, you've moved, I've moved. We've all had life things. Um, you know, I've had a husband that's deployed. I've had two babies, you know, it's just, there's been so much that's, uh, that's happened. So I think it's anybody that just shows up for their passion. Um, I think I just commend those people and I look up to those people.
00:29:39
Speaker
Oh, yeah, definitely, especially when you're like, you know, like you said, with with all the life stuff in the background, and trying to get everything situated, it definitely is the hardest, the hardest thing to do. It's like almost like having like a second full time job doing like a doing a podcast or even being a part of a podcast. Yeah.
00:29:55
Speaker
Exactly. When you're doing, now you're doing the open mic and you got raw down and you got the Chick Foley show. So it's just, it's crazy, but it's crazy in the best way. That's why I think about like the two bad Chads and the Turnbuckle Tavern. And I'm just like, man, they're just expanding. And I know they wouldn't be able to do all the things they do without the amazing team that they have, but the fact that they can still
00:30:17
Speaker
consistently crank out the content and like the fact that they stay up after dynamite and record the, you know, um, their flagship show is just like insane to me, you know, like that's, that's dedication on a different level or like fully posable, you know, like they haven't missed a show in like six years, you know, um, it's, it's freaking nuts, you know, so
00:30:39
Speaker
You definitely have to have the work ethic as well as like the, the, uh, the attention span to, to do it. Yeah. Oh yeah. Cause also motivation. But yeah, but definitely just discourage you if you're out there and you want to start something, dude, like just go for it. I mean, the worst case scenario, you're just going to be one of those like blips on the apple podcast. It only has three episodes and never go. You know what I mean? Like that's the absolute worst case scenario.
00:31:03
Speaker
Right. It'll probably be this show. It'll probably be one of those shows. I have high hopes. I have high hopes for open mic. Oh, man. But no, I'm joking. But yeah, it's like I said, it's a labor of love.
00:31:18
Speaker
If you're, uh, if you're, if you really want to do it, don't get this guy, it took me a while to even start this. Like I just, it took me months. Like I wanted to do it back in May and it just like, I just like didn't, you know, I just didn't feel like I can do it next week or I can do it next week. And then next week just never, never ends up coming around. The other thing too is like, I just didn't feel like I could like me personally, I could do it. I was just like, yeah, I was like, I don't think I can pull something like that off. And then I was talking to my wife and I was like,
00:31:45
Speaker
You know what, I was like, I don't think I can do it. She was like, you just got to do it. Just don't even think about it. Just set it up and do it and see what happens. So that's how kind of like the pilot happened. I was like, you know what, I'm going to take you up on that. I was like, well, let's sit down one night.
00:32:02
Speaker
I was like, well, we'll, we'll talk wrestling and we'll set it to Seth Safey wants to post it. I was like, if he doesn't, that's fine. Yeah, it was, it was fun. I enjoyed listening to Kim, you know, I enjoy listening to people who aren't, cause sometimes when you're listening to like the most hardcore of the hardcore wrestling fans, like it can be so annoying because they feel like they know everything and you know, they just, they talk about things from like this, you know, pedestal and I like, I get so annoyed by people like that. You know, I know I'm not perfect. I don't, like, I don't have an encyclopedic.
00:32:31
Speaker
memory about everything that's ever happened in wrestling. Um, and I feel like that's most people, you know, but there's a small population that just like have this elitist mentality when it comes to wrestling. So I really enjoy listening to people who have like kind of been in and out of the fold, uh, and just kind of like, you know, their, their perceptions on wrestling. So I really enjoyed it. So if you haven't listened to it, go back and check it out.
00:32:53
Speaker
Yeah, I guess I got some pretty decent feedback on it. A lot of people liked it, so I was proud. I was a proud Papa of my baby open mic show that I gave birth to last week. Congratulations. I hope you're recovering well.
00:33:10
Speaker
added to my, so I have four kids now. I have three actual children and then this. But another question I have for you is, do you think you're an influencer?
00:33:24
Speaker
at all in your position. I know a lot of people don't like that word like, oh, social media. I mean, that's what it's called, but yeah, the word feels icky for sure. Not like influencing people to purchase things or anything like that, but do you think you influenced other women out there to
00:33:44
Speaker
Um, like start like wrestling based accounts because I'll tell you this I run across like, uh, even on, on Twitter and Instagram, there's like tons of them. Like there's like, there's a, um, there's a, there's one called pretty thing collector and she collects all like, like, Oh, she's MOC. So you might not be too far. I support all figure collectors.
00:34:07
Speaker
I'm seeing a lot more women with figure collecting accounts and wrestling accounts and stuff like that. I was wondering, do you think that's because of you? Like I said, I don't really see any other women out there posting their collections and talking wrestling. You're pretty much the only one.
00:34:26
Speaker
It was definitely a niche when I first started. It was definitely like there were not other chicks posting wrestling figure collections. I mean, there's been chicks collecting like pops and other kind of figures and stuff like that since forever. You know what I mean? Like different toys and I mean, My Little Pony and Beanie Babies.
00:34:44
Speaker
way back when, right? But, um, I definitely didn't see a female in the wrestling figure space. And so it was definitely, like I said, just, just a novelty, kind of like just being a female in the wrestling space. And I know for a fact that, you know, I've influenced people to start accounts because they'll reach out to me and tell me like, Hey, you know, I've been following you. I just opened my account. You know, if you could follow me or, you know, blah, blah, blah. Like,
00:35:07
Speaker
They, they tell me, you know, that, that I influenced them in that way. And that's cool. Like to me, like that's, that's the coolest part about being a, you know, quote unquote, like influencer, right? And like, let's be real. I'm like still like, I am a niche of a niche of a niche. You know what I mean? Like I feel like wrestling is like in the world of influencers. I mean, you have people like, you know, freaking moms out there influencing like half a million people.
00:35:31
Speaker
Oh, you know what I mean? Like it's, it's crazy, you know, and my intention, you know, we have brand partnerships and sponsorships and all of that. And we love the people that we partner with, or we wouldn't partner with them. You know what I mean? Like I, you know, it's like such a cliche in the influencer world. Like I don't partner with anybody that I don't like, but it's true. Like we've turned down people and like we've cut ties with people that, you know, had like, that we didn't agree with or didn't like their stuff. You know what I mean? Like we were just like, eh, you know, this isn't really aligning with us. Like we're not going to promote it anymore, you know, or we're not going to promote it at all.
00:36:01
Speaker
Um, so like chalk line, um, ringside, like the people that we partner with, like you, you know, that we, we love those people. And I, my influence is never to make people buy things that they don't want or don't need. Like my influence is just to like, I want people to just do things that makes them happy and feel okay about it. And like do things that like.
00:36:24
Speaker
bring them joy, you know? And if that means buying a pair of chalk line shorts that you know, that people probably outside of the wrestling world probably think you're goofy for wearing, like so be it. You know what I mean? Yeah. Oh, Seth. I mean, I think that's all Seth wears pretty much. I mean, his whole, his whole, you know, wardrobe is pretty much chalk line shorts. But you know, I think people are just set fear of judgment, you know, buying
00:36:47
Speaker
action figures or buying loud wrestling t-shirts or shorts or whatever. And my influence is just to tell you who gives a shit.
00:36:58
Speaker
I just, I, I never want to be an influencer to like tell people like, Oh, you need to buy, buy, buy, buy, buy, buy. Cause like that doesn't align with me as a person at all. You know, like if you know me on a personal level, you know, like I don't, I'm not a person who's just like, you know, spend money you don't have like, buy, buy, buy, buy it all, buy it now. Like that's not who I am. Um, and I mean, I do have, um, you know, Obligations to our, to our partners and stuff like that to post about stuff. But I mean, I'm just letting you know what's out there.
00:37:26
Speaker
You know, if you want it, get it. If you don't, don't, you know? So I hope everybody feels that in my influence because I'm not a person who's trying to get people to just like, cause there's a lot of wrestling content creators out there that are just like, we'll bash you over the head.
00:37:41
Speaker
with the shit that they're pushing. You know what I mean? I'm just not that person. And if that means I probably don't get as many brand sponsorships as those people, that's cool. But the ones that we do have are freaking amazing and we love them. Oh, yeah. I think that's something that also...
00:38:01
Speaker
people draw to you because of that. It's not because you're trying to force things down anyone's throat. You're loose with that type of side. Like you said, we always preach, collect what you want to collect, buy what you want to buy. Don't feel obligated to
00:38:19
Speaker
Keep up with anybody. Don't keep up with the freaking Joneses. That's unrealistic. It's unrealistic, especially now. Speaking of just the action figure space, there's no way that you can have it all. It's crazy. It's crazy. There's so many creators out there and so many companies that are making action figures now. You can't have it all. Sometimes you're just going to have to be okay with
00:38:42
Speaker
limiting your collection and not worrying about what so-and-so has or don't buy things because you think it's gonna make you cool in a certain circle of people, you know, like I don't care if people in our fully fam have every single action figure, you know what I mean? Like that means nothing to me. What means something to me is like they are collecting in a way that is healthy for them and it makes them feel good, you know, and that they love their collection. Like that to me is like, that's where it's at.
00:39:12
Speaker
Exactly. Like I said, we always preach that. That's how I pretty much collect. I collect what I think is sentimental to me and whatever I think is cool or whatever.
00:39:23
Speaker
you know, comes across I like kind of catches my eye. It's not like I'm not a full like I don't collect full sets of anything. I'll maybe do like bits and pieces of stuff. But I usually go for stuff that's like, that like, that'll go Oh my god, that reminds me of something or, you know, there's a story to it. But yeah, that's, that's, that's, that's definitely something.
00:39:43
Speaker
That's definitely something to take into consideration when you're, like I said, an influencer or any type of influencer in that matter. And I think the biggest thing is I never started this to be a quote unquote influencer. Influencers weren't even a thing. You know what I mean? I mean, there were people influencing people by step on the internet, but it wasn't an, like influencer marketing was not,
00:40:02
Speaker
Really a thing like it is right now, you know so I didn't start my account to be an influencer the fact that we even have you know brands that reach out to us and want to partner with us and want to send us stuff and like You know working with footlocker was so cool like with their wall a collection like that was such an honor to get to work with them you know ringside and like I said
00:40:22
Speaker
Uh, chalk line, like, I'm just like, this is pretty, this is pretty damn cool. You know what I mean? We've worked with, um, homage in the past. Like, I just feel like the fact that anybody even wanted me to share their product. Like I was just like, well, damn, this is cool. You know, like it just was never a, uh,
00:40:43
Speaker
Yeah, like I said, you're like an influencer. I know you don't see yourself as that, but that's what other people see on the outside looking at it. They're like, oh wow, look at this person has this many followers. They have this type of interaction with people. No, let's definitely reach out and get out.
00:41:02
Speaker
Yeah. I feel like I don't have the largest following and that's fine with me. I don't want the problems that come along with having half a million followers. That's never problems that I want. But I feel like our fully fam and our loyal followers are the best in the game. You know what I mean? They're just engaged. They're active on the account. They're just the best.
00:41:27
Speaker
I mean, we have to shout out the main person, which is Tyson. TNT. TNT, yeah. He's an OG for sure. Tyson Neil Trevino is an OG and now he's like the Pod Foundation mainstay. I think he listens to every single Pod Foundation production that comes out.
00:41:46
Speaker
He listened, he does a live version of the Rawdown. He's in the comment section. He's interacting with us and everything. Definitely you love those types of... Exactly. That's the kind of community that I want to cultivate. That's it right there.
00:42:05
Speaker
Yeah, exactly. So let's hop off of the chick-fully portion of things. I want to jump into the Sheena things. Oh, man. Sheena things. The Sheena lifestyle. Okay. Yeah. So basically, obviously, besides wrestling and collecting and all that stuff,
00:42:28
Speaker
I think I talked about this before. One of the things I used to love on the Chick Foley show was the keeping it tranquilo. Yeah, keeping it tranquilo. Which is basically a portion of the show, Tranquilo, where we talked about things other than wrestling. What are you listening to? Music, podcasts, movies, TV, anything other than wrestling.
00:42:50
Speaker
What are some things now that you're, I mean, obviously you're super busy, so you're probably not watching anything, but before you go super busy, what are some other things you're into? Oh man, in my shoot life, I am such like, just like, I wish I could say I was like super cool and like, you know, like doing all the cool things, but like I'm such a hippie granny, you know, like in my real life.
00:43:15
Speaker
There's nothing I love more than spending a Sunday morning or a Saturday morning at the farmer's market, reading books about farming and holistic health.
00:43:30
Speaker
casually dropping into an art fair. That's my scene. I've always had dreams of having a big garden and having a homestead and stuff like that. The fact that we're doing that right now, I've been headfirst
00:43:46
Speaker
into that and head first into my garden. I'm just in love with that space. I spend a lot of time out there and I don't know how much holistic homesteading crossover there is with the Chick-Fully audience, but in my regular life.
00:44:02
Speaker
That's me. But I do love, so this might be a little more, this might have a little more reach is, you know, I love cooking too. That's another thing. I really love, I love to cook. So that's, that's another passion. I love to eat. So, you know, if you love to eat, you need to love to cook, I think.
00:44:17
Speaker
But a true crime I love True, so I'm like a hippie granny who loves to listen to shows about people being murdered So that's that's me. I'm out my out my garden, you know You know, you think I'm like listening to some, you know, nice music or an audio book You know, but no I'm I'm listening to horrific tales of you know people
00:44:41
Speaker
People's last days, uh, you know, I love crime junkie and morbid are probably two, two, two of my most listened to that, um, that I can say there's, yeah. But that, and I don't really know like waking up at like six in the morning, hear that stuff. Uh, that's why you're having your coffee junkies and stuff like that. So you,
00:45:05
Speaker
Yeah, I wake up, I walk down the stairs and it's basically just, you know, this person was missing at this day. Like, what do you, why are you listening to murder stuff at six in the morning? Like what the hell's wrong with you? Yeah, there's so many good ones. You know, the pike to massacre is one that a whole family, like, you know, just getting completely annihilated. Like, and I'm such a, like, I don't know. I don't know why I listened to that stuff because it like,
00:45:28
Speaker
After I became a mom, I used to be way more hardcore into the true crime space. Then I became a mom and something shifts in your body when you become a mom and you just become super uber sensitive to things and things really stick with you and they hit you a different way. I have to be careful sometimes of the things that I listen to and watch.
00:45:46
Speaker
And I used to be a huge horror junkie too. Like I, I mean, I still am. I love horror movies, but I used to just like, I would be sitting at home at night, like while Seth was here at work or deployed and I would watch scary movies by myself. Like there's no way in hell I would do that now. You know, like I'm, I'm just too, you know, I don't know. I don't have it anymore. So I told you guys, I'm a hippie granny. I hate to pull back the curtain.
00:46:10
Speaker
and let you guys know, you know, that I'm probably not as cool and exciting as you think I am. But yeah, I love just, you know, sitting down to a good, uh, grass fed grass finished steak and cooking it up and, you know, listening to farm, listening to farm. No, no, it's not. It's just, it's just funny in the right circles. It's like, Oh yeah, you're the coolest chick ever. But yeah, in the wrestling, in the wrestling world, I think most people, you know, uh, are just like, what?
00:46:41
Speaker
farmers market. No. Well, that's the other thing too. I wanted to like, yeah, I want to, I want to bring up. Yeah. I want to bring up the fact that like, you know,
00:46:49
Speaker
you had that other, you have your other page of your Sheena Phelps page where like at the beginning you would do like a lot of fitness stuff. Um, you know, like post workouts and you know, give like health and fitness and stuff like that. And that's something that, you know, I think a lot of some people don't know. Um, yeah. Do you want to elaborate that? Yeah. Yeah. Oh yeah. So I still, I still do it. It's not as much of a prominent piece of like my social media anymore. I feel like I really don't,
00:47:19
Speaker
Yeah. So here's the thing. Social media is such a crazy place. Like everything is constantly changing and to stay relevant. You really have to stay on top of like social media trends and stuff. And to me, I think that's just.
00:47:31
Speaker
baloney, like I'm not trying to do that all the time. Like it's like, you'll be listening to these social media experts and they're like, well today, you know, don't use, we don't use hashtags anymore. Well, you know, six months ago it was like, you have to have hashtags. They have to have a certain, you know, a certain number of hashtags. And now you have to do reels like, you know, photos, aren't getting it like any, any view anymore. And I'm just tired of running that freaking rat race and trying to like,
00:47:55
Speaker
keep up and grow and all of that stuff. I just feel like it's bonkers. I have other things that I could be spending my mental bandwidth on and trying to get more people to use a social media app and spend more time in a social media app is not where I'm at.
00:48:14
Speaker
Health and fitness and, you know, just whole body health and holistic health is something that I've been passionate about for like, I mean, over a decade now. And it's just something that has just been a part of me for the most part of my life, you know, and that's looked different at different times in my life, but.
00:48:30
Speaker
It's, it's who I am at my core. Like I truly care about people's health. And that's not saying like, let me just, let me just be frank. You know, have you ever heard of like crunchy moms? You know what I mean? Like the crunchy moms who are like, you know, super all organic and everything. Like I will still crush like a Chick-fil-A sandwich or a Sonic corn dog with a quickness. You know what I mean? Like I'm not, I'm not perfect by any stretch of the imagination. You know, like I don't, I don't, that's just not, I'm not a person who like.
00:48:56
Speaker
puts those parameters on myself, but I feel like at my core, I do the things that make me feel good 90% of the time. And then the 10%, I just like do whatever the hell I want, you know? And I feel like that's just creates a good, a good balance for, for health and life. Uh, so.
00:49:16
Speaker
Yeah, because I was my wife, actually, you know, she had like, obviously, she follows you as well. And she she sees a lot of stuff that you post with like, you know, like, minimizing like your your space and you know, all like, all these like things that you share all these like, you know, tips and tricks and stuff like that. I think
00:49:33
Speaker
that's as important as anything, especially like stuff. Obviously, it can translate to collecting. You don't need all this stuff. You can get rid of this stuff and you can organize. I always took both of the things that you did and they run into each other almost. It's still the same person running both
00:49:56
Speaker
It's just two sides of you, essentially. Thank you for saying that. That really means a lot because I try to carry, because I try to carry who I am as a person and what aligns with me as a person and what makes me feel good into Chick Foley. You know what I mean? Because Chick Foley is just an extension of myself and I feel like I try to be as genuine and real
00:50:20
Speaker
on there as possible. I mean, there's a certain level of like kayfabe where we're just talking shop about wrestling and all that kind of stuff, right? But I feel like I try to take my values and still apply them to Chick Foley.
00:50:35
Speaker
And like you said, like with minimizing and not feeling like spend money you don't have and, you know, just, just doing things that make you happy. And ultimately like my goal is just to try to help people just live a happier, healthier, less stressed life. That's, that's really who I am as a person.
00:50:56
Speaker
You know, I guess I get that from like I said, if you follow both accounts, you'll see that the message is pretty much the same across when you when you actually look at it when you do post stuff like that on you. Yeah, when you step back, it's actually.
00:51:09
Speaker
Yeah, it's still, it's still the same message. And that's good. I remember one, there was, I was on your Sheena Phelps page like a while, like a while ago. And you were, it was something about, I really, I don't know why this like, popped into my head and always stuck with me. It was, it was basically like, something you said something like, when you wake up in the morning, right, you start your day, obviously, most people are just going to go right to their phone and start checking their phone and stuff like that. I think the first thing
00:51:34
Speaker
You have a list of things. One of the first things you should do is just drink water and get up. You're laying in bed for eight hours without any water or anything like that. You're dehydrated. The first thing you should do when you get up is drink some water and get some fluid in your body. I don't know why that one piece of information always stuck with me. That's something I always do.
00:51:58
Speaker
I think it's stuck. Yeah. Well, good. Good for you, Mark. I'm glad that that stuff we did. It's still advice that I would offer to anyone, but I think it stuck with you because it was a simple action that you could take toward, I think sometimes we think these changes that we need to make in our life are so like,
00:52:16
Speaker
just big and grandiose and you know, we have to really commit and change our life and do a total 180 when really all you need to do is just wake up and take a freaking drink of water instead of looking at your phone and drinking a cup of coffee first thing in the morning, you know, like it's those little simple steps that will just, just help you then that will compound over time and, and really help you find yourself in a place that you want to be instead of just like going in the opposite direction, you know, it doesn't have to be big sweeping, small, small actions.
00:52:46
Speaker
Yep. Yep. Baby steps. I'm like, I'll even get mad at myself sometimes. Like I'll even forget, like I'll get up, go down, make a cup of coffee and I'll start drinking. I'm like, David, I didn't drink water before I drank coffee. What am I? I'm dehydrated myself even more because that's what coffee doesn't, doesn't like hydrate you. It makes me even more dehydrated. It's get you some water.
00:53:08
Speaker
I'm like, damn it, what the hell am I doing to myself? I'm killing myself right now. But no, even the other thing too is like even in your, in those, in the other posts that you would use to do like the, you know, post on like your workouts and stuff like that, you would even like, you know, it would, you kind of show like a human side in the sense where
00:53:27
Speaker
You wouldn't, most people have a set time where they do workouts, like they'll like get up at 5am, you know, brush your teeth, blah, blah, blah, then buy six, they're in the gym. There'd be times on like, on your account where it'd be like later in the day, like you wouldn't, you wouldn't be like, you would consistently work out. But you, you being obviously a human being a mom, it's like, you know,
00:53:49
Speaker
You're not going to work out the same time every day. That's not Paul. I watched my wife do the same thing. Like she tries to have a set time to do her workouts, but that's, in reality, that's not going to happen when you have three kids, essentially. Not even, even one is going to throw that off.
00:54:05
Speaker
Exactly. I think it's just a message in being flexible with your life and not putting rigid parameters around yourself. Because ultimately, if you put those parameters on yourself, the moment that you miss something, you're going to feel like a failure. And I feel like that's just such bullshit. You know what I mean? Everybody messes up. Everybody, you know, has to change their life and you have to be flexible. And you can't, when you put those, you know, put yourself in that little box and say you're going to do it like, you know, A, B, C, D. If B doesn't happen, even if you did, you know, A, C, D, E,
00:54:35
Speaker
You still feel like a failure because B didn't happen. I mean, that's craziness, you know what I mean? Like you accomplished 90% of the stuff in your day and you missed one thing and you feel like a failure because you had, you know, these expectations on yourself. So yeah, I don't live like that.
00:54:51
Speaker
Oh, yeah, no, you definitely I mean, like, I tell my wife, like, I try to, you know, when it comes to work, like, I try to like, you know, when I finish my day, I try to like, you know, if I didn't get anything done that I was supposed to, I'll kind of like write a list at the end of the day and say, All right, here's what I got to try to get to tomorrow. Yeah, essentially, because you know, you're not going to get everything done in a day like it's everything that you want to do anyway, you just get a you got to kind of set
00:55:16
Speaker
Certain goals for yourself that you can't accomplish because if like you said if you don't do it You're just gonna feel like you know, I failed. Yeah, I feel myself. I failed everyone People I know this isn't supposed to be turning into like a motivational podcast, you know Well, we've kind of gotten off on you know telling people to set goals and stuff but I think you know, it's just I feel like
00:55:37
Speaker
We just were so hard on ourselves all the time. And if you make a list of all the things that you do do, like instead of the things that you didn't get done, it's really gonna make you feel accomplished. You know what I mean? There's times when I won't get a few things done in my day that I had planned and I look back and think like, well, I did this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this. Okay, yeah, I can give myself a break.
00:56:00
Speaker
Yeah, that's it. That's like I said, I try to do that. And, you know, I mean, like I said, I'm not a guru or anything like that. Like, I have faults like everyone else. But I try to like give some, like some type of advice, especially when it comes to like, you know, trying to be organized as much as he can. And, you know, try to get things done. Like even, even with like the raw down, like I started doing, I set up like a folder where, you know, kind of like how we did before when I used to like, write all the results down and
00:56:27
Speaker
you know, send them to you guys so you guys can look at them. Like they thought that was the greatest thing in the world. They're like, Oh my God, this, this helps out so much with the just that little thing. Yeah. This is great. You're not going to remember everything. Like you're watching what, like eight hours of wrestling a week. You're not going to remember everything that happened in eight hours. So like the best thing to do is like try to write like the points down.
00:56:49
Speaker
And then send them out and try to hit on as many points as you can. That's literally all you can do. And like I said, I try to help out as much as I can in that sense. Or take some stuff from my personal life and try to put it towards the podcast life, essentially. And vice versa. I wasn't the greatest speaker or the greatest... I was
00:57:11
Speaker
scared to speak in front of people. Now it's like, I don't care. Oh, I still to this day, I can talk into this microphone. I still to this day have a irrational fear of public speaking. If I had to get up in front of a group of people and speak, when we just had our fully fan meetup the other day and I was talking to people, no problem. I can socialize with the best of them. But if I were to have to give a presentation, my heart would just fall out my butt.
00:57:40
Speaker
not be able to do it. And it's funny because I don't think people would feel, I don't think people that didn't know me would like feel that way about me. They'd be like, oh yes, you know, would just hop up there and do whatever, you know? And I used to not be like that, but I don't know. I developed this like strange fear of public speaking.
00:57:55
Speaker
I don't know. I think for me, I think this kind of helped me out a lot in a sense where it's not public speaking, but it technically is because it's put out to the public. They're going to hear everything you're going to say. Either way, it's just not in person. It's true, but I don't have to look people in the eyes. You know what I mean? That's the biggest thing. Now that you've got your daily dose of personal development,
00:58:24
Speaker
I hope you feel like better humans after listening to this. Like I said, this is like the idea of this show in particular, the open mic show is to have like conversations. Yeah, open discussions. Hey, if it's motivational and it helps people out, then fine. If it's motivation, it's motivation, people hate their motivation stuff, whatever. It's not my problem. Exactly.
00:58:49
Speaker
Exactly. If you hate people being positive, then you probably have bigger issues than that. If you've been on social media at all, that's a majority of that. Trust. All right, so last but not least, future plans for Chick-Fully,
00:59:17
Speaker
pod foundation. In a perfect world or fantasy book, as we call it in our world, fantasy booking, where do you see this going? Because I have an idea of just talking to the turnbuckle dudes. I have an idea of what their plans are with Turnbuckle Tavern and stuff like that and where they wanted to
00:59:40
Speaker
go forth essentially, but they just added a fantasy football show. Oh yeah, the turnbuckle tavern is basically turning into the ringer light. They're just putting out all the content. I don't know if I have as big a pipe dreams as the two bad chads, but I love being along for the ride.
01:00:07
Speaker
You mentioned the Pod Foundation. That's been one of the coolest things that's come out of Chick Foley is the Pod Foundation collaboration and our group of shows and just getting to know people. We listened to Turnbuckle Tavern and we were like, yeah, we got to connect with these guys. These guys are so cool. If you're out there right now and you're listening to this and you're not at least listening to the flagship show,
01:00:30
Speaker
I can't even tell you what you're missing out on like it's just like turnbuckle content is like or the tavern content is just is just primo but you know extra cooler started his show and I love what they do I love you know I love that it's just for people that have been friends for so long and you know they put out such a great show and you can just tell they have like this just long-standing friendships and their rapport is so great and I love you know I love hearing their takes on stuff and
01:00:55
Speaker
all the stuff that, you know, John is like the one man show over there doing the thing that like, I would literally like have a heart attack doing. It's just like, you know, monologue podcasting. Like I would, I would die, but I commend John for, for doing the damn thing. Um, and just like all the spinoff shows that we have now, um, and getting, like, we have our pod foundation chat and that's, that's been really cool. So I know I just went on a tangent about the pod foundation, but
01:01:20
Speaker
I can't emphasize enough if you aren't following, um, coming down the aisle, uh, Turnbuckle Tavern, Chick Foley and the Extra Cooler show, like you're, you're missing out. But as far as like the future of Chick Foley, like, I don't know. Like I said, I don't have like these pipe dream goals. Uh, I feel like my favorite thing about Chick Foley as a whole has just been the Foley fam community. Like when I say we're the best community of marks in the IWC, like I mean that wholeheartedly.
01:01:47
Speaker
I say it all the time. At the end of Raw, we do our shout outs and everything. Everyone agrees, too. It's literally the most drama-free group of people ever. I don't know if it's because there's a woman at the helm and I'm like this mother figure and I'm keeping all of you guys in line. I don't know. When there's no woman in charge around, guys just lose their freaking minds and act like assholes. I don't know.
01:02:13
Speaker
But I truly feel like we just attract awesome people. Because I'm in the other groups with the people that are in the Foley fam and they don't act a damn fool in those groups. You know what I mean? They're just- They act- They're well-behaved. Yeah, they're well-behaved even in other groups. But they're freaking hilarious and that's what I love about them.
01:02:33
Speaker
Like I said, I'm in several wrestling groups and I can say that if I had to deal with all the bull crap that the other groups had to deal with, I wouldn't do it. But our fully fam is just straight up chill. There are people with a life who enjoy wrestling and just want to enjoy the sport and the community. I feel like we're kind of like that.
01:02:54
Speaker
There's some people who like that big city vibe where it's just like chaos and noise, and you can pretty much just exist in anonymity. Wow, that was tough to get out. But Chick Foley is like that small town, like, thank you for being a friend where everybody knows your name. That's the vibe that we give off, you know what I mean? And I tend to keep it that way. I would love to grow the Foley fam.
01:03:21
Speaker
our Patreon community, that's our fully fam is our Patreon community and we have an exclusive group on Facebook and that's what I'm talking about if you're unfamiliar. But, you know, it's just, it's a passion project for us and I don't really have a desire to be the type of place where, you know, like you hear four minutes of ads before you ever hear our voices come on the show, you know, and I'd like to continue to grow.
01:03:42
Speaker
But I also want to keep our community like cool and chill and intimate and intact. Um, and, uh, you know, I mean, the Patreon community is great because it allows us to have a little something for our time and effort, but it also sets up a, um, you know, a little bit of friction for people like that are assholes that just get in all the free groups, you know, like that couple, that couple bucks a month really is a great, great repellent for assholes. Yeah.
01:04:07
Speaker
It's a good funnel. Yeah, exactly. And I feel like the people that are there, like that $2 buy-in or whatever, it creates such a better community experience. And I'm so grateful for everyone that's in there. Again, you guys are my favorite part of what we do. And yeah, that's pretty much where I see Chick Foley. We may blow up and go viral and hopefully in a good way.
01:04:36
Speaker
Yeah, yeah, hopefully. But if it just stays the same as it is right now, I'd be cool with that. I mean, yeah, especially, you feed me to the wolves with running the Twitter account, so we'll see how it looks now. I'm forever grateful that I have our presence on social media on Twitter, because if it weren't for Marco, Chick Foley would not be on Twitter.
01:05:02
Speaker
Yeah, I mean, like I said, it's not bad. It was rough at the beginning. Had my run-ins with some Hall of Famers, or one Hall of Famer anyway. But other than that, it hasn't been that bad at all.
01:05:18
Speaker
Yeah, no, even, like I said, everyone kind of inspires each other too. That's the other thing about the group is we can all say a word of encouragement and everyone kind of follows suit and everyone listens along. If someone's having a bad day or they're not afraid to post, the other thing too is it's not just wrestling. We talk about lifestyle. People have posted
01:05:42
Speaker
you know, personal things in that group and stuff like that. I feel like we know each other well enough that like we can poke fun at each other and nobody gets offended. Like it's still a fun. It's not, you know, I mean, we're not like over there, like, you know, reading like scriptures or anything. You know what I mean? You know, as Steve Austin said, we're not over there thumping our Bibles, you know, but, um, I think it's, I think it's just, uh, you know, we're, we're having fun and it's just like everybody knows that everybody just means well in there, you know,
01:06:11
Speaker
Yeah, definitely. Yeah, that group is, like I said, it's almost like it literally is a family. That's why it's called the Foley family. It's literally just a bunch of brothers and sisters just hanging out, talking crap to each other. It's a great time. That's right. Yeah, this actually, you know what? I think we can end it there.
01:06:35
Speaker
This is fun. Thank you. Thank you for having me. No, thank you. No, thank you. Thank you for having me on here. I'm glad I could influence you to have me on your show. People are going to be like, Oh, that's a shocker. You know, it is his first guess.
01:06:55
Speaker
Well, I mean, come on, you know, hard it is to get, you know, hard it is to get Gina on a, on a, do you know how hard it is to get me to do an extra podcast? Poor Tom, poor OG fig kid, Tom Montalto. He's been trying, he tried to get me on sessions. He tried to get me, he's trying to get me on fig night. I'm like, bro, I'm trying, man. Like I cannot commit to anything extra bro. It's like, I love you. I love all the things that you guys are doing. I listen to your show all the time.
01:07:20
Speaker
But ma'am, adding an extra recording night into the rotation, it's a lot.
01:07:27
Speaker
Well, that's why I picked a week that obviously we're not doing anything. That's right. So I was like, you know, I was like, let me, let me reach out to like a week in advance or two weeks and see where she's at. You're going to give me, you're going to give me a three week heads up. You know what I mean? I see like sometimes they'll go into the group chat and they're like, Hey, is anybody can anybody jump on? I'm like, guys, no, like my kids are literally running around like, you know, wild monkeys here. Like I can't, I was like, she's like, she's a farmer now. She's like freaking I'm going, I'm going bed at nine o'clock.
01:07:54
Speaker
Yeah, she's doing all this stuff now. She's like a freakin like, she's a legit farmer. Yeah, I'm God weena. Yeah, she's you can't I was like, it's hard you get to like, figure it out. So but no, thank you. Thank you. Like I said, thank you for everything. Thank you. First of all, get me on the show. Thank you for, you know, giving me the the okay to do the show. And, you know,
01:08:21
Speaker
Everything. Just saying. You don't need my permission to be great, Marco. Well, you know, when you put the, you know, I have your names pretty much on the... On the feed? On the feed of my show. So I can't just come out and say like, you know, say some bullshit and then, you know, people come after you or, you know, it's a whole thing. And then I get kicked off. Been there, been there, done that. I don't know.
01:08:48
Speaker
Oh, boy. All right. I think we should, yeah, we'll end it there. All right, Marco. Thanks, Helen. Thank you. Thank you. We'll see you hopefully next week or whenever. Whenever I feel like dropping the show. That's when you'll hear my voice again. Thank you all for listening. Later.
