Speaker: This is a Muck Stain Productions Podcast.

Speaker: Hello, homies and trainers, and welcome to Unknown Radio, your mudstain production Pokemon talk show, where we take a peek at every Pokemon. I'm Claudia, and I'm here with my co -host and partner in crime, Catherine. Hello, I'm Catherine. While Claudia brings us the facts, I bring us a bit of mosaics. And we're going off of our regular scheduled programming just a little bit to bring you a Halloween special, because it is the season. It is the season indeed.

Speaker: the spooky season, we will be skipping very far ahead to the sun and moon era and do Pokemon number 778, which it is crazy to me that that's not even one of the new ones. That is mad. And we will be covering the adorable Pokemon who I have fallen in love with, Mimikyu. I'm ready, but I'm scared I'm gonna cry. You probably will.

Speaker: So this is a ghost fairy type Pokemon. And do you have any idea what his tagline is? The imposter Pokemon. That is very close. Yeah. He's the disguise Pokemon. Oh, nice. Nice. So do you have any idea what this Pokemon looks like? It looks like a child has drawn Pikachu and not very well.

Speaker: That is very accurate. So the body of Mimikyu has been designed to look like a Pikachu with a little drawn on face with the cute ears and the zigzag mouth. But on his body, kind of the section just underneath the head does have two little eye holes in there that he actually sees out of. So eyes.

Speaker: Yeah, the little dots on his belly is eyes. Those are his eyes. Oh, I thought... Okay. Yep. Underneath the cloth, if you were to lift up the little Pikachu cloth.

Speaker: just appears to be a black shadowy mass with two glowing eyes. But it's unknown what it looks like in full, because if you glimpse at it at all, it will cause immediate catatonic shock, if not death. What the fuck? What? We're going in heavy. Okay. Okay. So the actual size of this tiny little Pokémon, it is just that lower half. It is only eight inches.

Speaker: So like the top head bit is just like a ball or something? Yeah, it's just costume. Oh, okay. The little guy's eight inches. And smile, unless you're a man and then it's huge. Yeah, eight inches is massive. He's so, so big. The biggest I've ever seen.

Speaker: And this little guy only weighs 1 .5 pounds, which I have done the math for you is 0 .7 kilograms. Thank you for doing that. I appreciate it. You're welcome. I've really stepped my game up from this point onwards for you. You really have. I'm really proud. Thank you. I appreciate it. So this little guy, his name may be based on the words mimic you. Yeah, it makes sense. And the Japanese worm

Speaker: worm, the Japanese word makyu, mikyu, which means mystery. And if you've seen the anime, this will make more sense, but it may be based on like the Japanese onomatopoeia. So like the word it sounds like what they use for squeaking because they say QQQ for a squeak. Oh, that's, that's cute. I'm here for it. It's more cute than the actual anime where he just kind of goes,

Speaker: That sounds pretty simple. Yeah, that sounds terrifying. There's like a white noise coming towards you. Essentially a creepy white noise. He's not our Halloween pick of the year for no reason. He's a creepy boy. He is a creepy little guy. So like you said, it looks like a sheet with the eyes. When he was made, he was based like...

Speaker: a Pikachu doll, but also based on those ghost costumes where the kids would just cut out the eye holes and put the sheet on. Yeah, I get that vibe. And he actually has a little bit of lore in him as well. His true form, that very massive eight inch form inside there, is based on a legend about a darkness cloud that makes people vanish or die. Oh, that's interesting. Has that got like a name related to it as well? No, but they have linked it to

Speaker: the author HP Lovecraft and there is this Lovecraftian being that is also that same cloud that can kill or cause mental insanity simply by their appearance alone. Oh, that is interesting. We have to research that.

Speaker: And it has another little bit where it could also be based on a being called Beagle Noz, who was a kind and gentle fairy that was lonely because he was ugly. Oh, that's sad. Oh, we're just beginning. So what do you think of this guy so far? Do you think he's creepy? Creepy as fuck, yeah.

Speaker: Yeah, he's very creepy as fuck. When in canonically the Pokemon universe, due to this cloth appearance, people would previously mistake it as like an ordinary ghost Pokemon, wearing a horrible ragged cloth until it was actually identified as being its own individual species. Right. So would you like to know just why Mimikyu has decided to put on this little outfit?

Speaker: Is it to lull people into a false sense of security and then it turns around and wha -bam! He attacks, well, not even attacks you, stuns you, whatever he does. Makes you go insane. You're on the right track there. So to note, the Sun and Moon Pokémon game and anime series came out 20 years after the original Red and Blue games, right? Jesus Christ.

Speaker: I know. Doesn't that make you feel old? Yeah, I just need a moment to let that sink in, let alone the rest of it. Holy shit. So while that sinks in... It's not even that new. No. Oh, that's disgusting. That's not even when the Nintendo DS came out. That was like the third game, I think, that came out on the Nintendo DS. Oh my god.

Speaker: Yeah, yeah, put that in your pipe and smoke it. That's disgusting. Okay, cool. So his official biography on the Pokedex was that apparently 20 years ago, it was said that the Pikachu was one of the most popular Pokemon. So the Mimikyu dressed up like Pikachu in order to become more popular among trainers. So they want to be Pikachu.

Speaker: To set you on this track of how this is gonna go forward in this episode, I'm gonna read you the English translation to a song that was released when Pokémon Sun and Moon came out about Mimikyu. Is it gonna be really sad? Oh man, I'm not sure I'm ready. Go on then. It goes as follows. I'm not Pikachu, I Mimikyu.

Speaker: The lo -some Mimikyu. The sun, it's a bit scary, but I like pitchback places. I like to be friends with everyone, so I copied Pikachu's look. Doesn't this outfit look cute? It's handsome, isn't it amazing? But don't take that off. Don't ever do that. If you see me, you might be cursed.

Speaker: I'm not Pikachu, I mimic you. I'm not a monster, I mimic you. I'll protect you with my big claw. I'll be helpful with a Thunderbolt. Since you want to raise a reliable Pokemon, please let me be your partner. Let's be friends. I mimic you. I'm so lonely, I mimic you. Well, that's sad.

Speaker: He just wants people to like him. He just wants people to like him. Oh, he's misunderstood. Yeah. Like shock. And because it's said that he's a cursed being and anyone that's seen under his rags have all died. But most Mimikyu mean no actual harm and only want to be friends with humans. Poor kids.

Speaker: Aww. That's why they hide their true form under a costume representing what people love the most. Pikachu. Pikachu. Yeah. Do you know what? If only you can see himself now, you can buy him from Build -A -Bear. You can buy him from Build -A -Bear. I might have to go and get one just because I've fallen in love with him a little bit. God bless him. He just wants people to like him.

Speaker: And just to add how cute he is, when they introduced the Z moves that were like individual to the Pokemon, the Mimikyu Z move is titled Let's Snuggle Forever. That's kind of cute. Poor baby. He just wants to give you a snuggle. He just wants to be loved. Oh, he thinks no one is ever gonna like him. Yeah, because he keeps killing people by accident.

Speaker: Yeah, I mean, that would be quite sad for a lot of people. And he's just like this weird ghostly ball so you can't give him a cuddle either. It's just not on. It is not on. So the one Mimikyu in the anime has been shown to harbor an immense, almost psychopathic hatred towards Ash's Pikachu and all Pikachus in general. But that's not the case for all of them. Just that one. So most of them just pick Pikachu because they just want to be cute.

Speaker: Okay. So the disguise itself, you'll find this very cool. It can reflect a lot of attacks because it is a ghost type Pokemon. And one of the things that they do do is they can't take physical attacks. Yeah. But if they get hit even once, the Mimikyu changes form. Oh. Right.

Speaker: So once they get hit, they change into what's called a busted form, where the neck of the costume is just broken, kind of destroying the illusion. Sounds terrifying. Yes. Okay. Right. So the rag that it wears allows it to avoid attacks. So Mimikyu will attempt to keep up its disguise even if the rag is broken.

Speaker: So it keeps the rag on, but it's very upset now. And then does it fight harder? So if it is defeated in battle, it will spend all night patching it in front of a mirror as if it life depends on it. And as quoted in the Pokedex, Mimikyu is deeply sad inside. Well, it's because he has to go around pretending. He has to hide who he is. That's got to be a sad little life.

Speaker: and stays up all night trying to fix his costume. Why can't the Pokémon Trainer do that? I'm assuming this is wild ones, but even if the Pokémon Trainer does try, if they do remove the costume to try and fix it, they will die. Yeah, then they die. Oh, that's... He spent so long trying to get a friend. That's so upsetting. Oh, he just... He just wants to friend. Like, he tries so hard. Just to be loved. Just to be loved.

Speaker: Imagine having to like hide every day. Oh, no, I can't. That's just right. Go on. What's your next point? It is sad, right? So the Pokedex says repairing the rag correctly is often difficult for Mimikyu. So it cries a lot and then seeks revenge on the one that damaged it, fearing that its true identity could have been exposed. I like the fact that it's got a bit of revenge plan.

Speaker: So yeah, the Mimikyu is quite unforgiving and will take down the culprit at the risk of costing his own life in the process. And Mimikyu will never forget the person who damaged its rag for as long as it lives. Oh damn, vengeful. For the rest of his life. I'm here for it. Like I hold a grudge, but Jesus Christ. Go on Mimikyu. So a lot of Mimikyu's attacks is like a reflective attack. So when it's hit, it can hit back.

Speaker: Yeah. I really struggled to get that word out. You didn't struggle. Trying to do it's like a lawnmower starting.

Speaker: But they do have, which is the only part of Mimikyu you actually see, because we don't want to look at him either, because we don't want to die, is this weird shadowy hand comes out from under the rag and does shadow balls and slaps and cheer. Which is pretty dope. It is, but also, I don't know, in my mind I could just see this tiny little hand just appearing, slapping around the face and then hiding again.

Speaker: I like him. I mean, yeah, to be fair, I kind of want to be his friend now. Right, and that's all he wants as a friend because he's so lonely. Yeah, that breaks my heart. And even if you do ignore like the weird creepy Pikachu head, the actual Mimikyu is quite cute. Is it? Oh, so if you take off the head. Yeah, the lower half with those little eyes just holding that stick to be the Pikachu tail.

Speaker: Oh bless you, imagine. Imagine holding up your tail all day long with a little stick. Just because he wants to be cute. Just wants a friend. And I'm assuming not so he doesn't have to live in the shadows either because his little poem says that he likes pitch back places because the sun's scary. So I wonder if he can't exist out in the sun without the outfit. Oh, a bit like a vampire. Exactly like a vampire that instead of biting you, you just have to look at him and you die. I'm not sure which is worse really.

Speaker: Probably Mimikyu, that's a sad life. That is actually, it's a really sad little life, bless him. Where do you find him? In the anime, they either live in cities or they live in forests. And I'm pretty sure in the game, you just find them on roots. They could be anywhere. Living amongst us. They could be anywhere just hiding. Living among us, just trying to make friends. With their little stick tails.

Speaker: The little hand drawn on faces that he spent hours crying on the inside, fixing in the mirror. Oh, so sad. So would you like to move on to a little question section for our little boy Mimiki? I think I know the answer to most of them. Let's go.

Speaker: Alright, so if you were just hanging out in the big old city, this is really taking a leap from all the weird barren places we've been to find what we have so far. I know. Right, but look at us. You're just hanging out in a city and you're just sitting there. Let's say you're at a cafe and then this little mimic you in his little outfit just comes out and does his like, caw, caw, caw, at you. What would you do? I think I'd run. You'd run? I'm not being funny.

Speaker: But, like, if I didn't expect to see it, and I don't really know much about it, I've run away. That's true, he is pretty... It's pretty creepy. Like, don't get me wrong, now I've got to know him. Fair enough, he's quite sweet, I like him. If I just saw this geezer on the street, I'd be gone. Alright, let's rephrase.

Speaker: If you were just hanging out and this little thing came up to you, didn't make the creepy noise and was just holding out some flowers, what would you do? I'd maybe strike up a conversation with it, assume it's, you know, a child and then maybe we could become friends and I'd let him follow me home. But I also would be scared in case I accidentally knocked off his uniform and I died.

Speaker: That would be a risk. Yeah, you have to be real careful spooning this guy in case you lift up the sheet. You couldn't spoon it. It'd have to have its own bed. Like a little pet bed. I reckon it would sleep at the end of your bed though, like...

Speaker: on a little pet bed. Or have you seen them hanging ones? Can you get those in America? They're like eggchairs, but for pets. Oh, yeah, I have one of those. Of course you do. I'd buy him one of them. He'd love that. He would just love being your friend. I don't think he'd care in what form that would be. I reckon he's a bit like Dobby. He'd be happy with just like a box just because you recognized him. You just give him a sock? Yeah.

Speaker: Like that'd be like the best day of his life and he'd be forever in your debt because you gave him a sock, you know? Just give him a sock and he just becomes an instant stage five clinger. Yeah, exactly. All eight inches of it. All eight inches. So other than battling, what function do you think this Pokémon could have? Wow, my brain went to think really dark.

Speaker: I think your brain and my brain did the same thing in that moment. I don't know. What about you? I mean, other than being able to destroy a large group of people very quickly by releasing this. Other than population control.

Speaker: If you would like to commit a war crime, this would be the ideal Pokémon for you. Mine is genocide. They have nothing. Forget the Gigantamax Pokémon. They'd be difficult to transport this guy. Super easy. Oh shit, yeah. Let out a few of them. Bring the cardboard box. Off you go, Sunshine. We're Team Rocket and we're taking over the entire Kanto region. Oh, you could easily do that.

Speaker: Easy, just have him run through a town making his coo -coo -coo -coo noises. People will open their door and be like, what's going on? They're instantly petrified or dead. Then he can just sweep up behind them and take all the Pokémon. I have nothing to add to that. I think we should swiftly move on before we're like bandersmen. The best function is a friend. A friend. He would be a good friend.

Speaker: He would be the perfect friend. There is no other function. Forget battling even. This Pokemon is just a friend and a companion and a pet. Yes. And he would love a pet bed, but do not snuggle him because you do run the risk of dying. Don't do this or you will get chlamydia and you will die. Facts.

Speaker: So, other than the souls of all the people that this Pokémon has killed, what do you think it eats? I just assume it gets all energy through, like, Osmosis. I don't know. Like, oh, nah, mushrooms. I reckon it loves a mushroom.

Speaker: Oh, because he's just going around at night time and then he just hovers. Because this thing does fly if it doesn't have the, it's just the regular old ghost. So he's just hovering over and just picking up mushrooms on the way. Yeah, like creepy ghost mushrooms. I reckon that's what it likes. He looks like, he looks like he'd eat mushrooms and friendship and the souls of all the people he's killed. Yeah, like I reckon it's a herbivore.

Speaker: Oh, I love that for him. I reckon you could feed it some grapes. Oh, yeah. I don't, like I said, I don't know how you'd feed it though, because I reckon its mouth would kill you if you saw it. But yeah, oh, you could put like a little bowl of food and it just... Like a rumba. Like a rumba. That's another function. Another function for this guy's, he could just rumba your house.

Speaker: Or like when you're cooking and you spill food. Like he's like, don't worry, I've got this. Yeah. He's like noo noo from Teletubbies. Oh God, yeah. So next question, could we eat this? No, it's a ghost. No, you'd die. Like, yeah. Also you'd die.

Speaker: Alright, moving on. So I already know the answer to this. If you were in just like a, let's go with like a preppy hip bar in let's say, you know, Viridian City or wherever you're hanging out currently. And a Mimikyu just walks into a bar and you call him ugly and he gets really upset. Or maybe you were just getting a bit rowdy and you threw hands a bit and you knocked

Speaker: You broke the neck of his costume and now he's going to seek his unforgiving and everlasting revenge on you and all of your family. Who would win this fight? Mimikki. Oh yeah. That's it. I'm not even going to attempt to fight this guy. He's going to instant death. He just gets naked and shows you all eight inches and you die. Instant death. Right. Also, you know, you said you have to see it for it to kill you.

Speaker: Yeah. Does it kill blind people? Oh, we're going to add that to our letter to Nintendo. I reckon that'd be all right. Yeah. I'll just - It does specifically say, glimpsing causes immediate catatonic shock, if not death. There we go. So if I could, could you not just blindfold yourself? Suck it up with a hoover. You could. Like a ghostbuster. Yeah.

Speaker: But no, that was my question that just popped into my head. That's genius. Yeah. You could get a whole job of being a Mimikyu buster. Oh, yeah. And no more genocide for you Team Rocket. No, just let blind you out on the streets of the Kanto region with a vacuum. Yeah. You got this. Yeah.

Speaker: It could be like detectors. You must be able to get like a ghost Pokemon detector. So you kill a few ghastlies on the way. With a, what's it called? A siltscope or something? Yeah. See, there is a - Just you with a siltscope and a vacuum and a blindfold. Yeah. That's got - Freaking killing it. I'd need you as well. We'd have to be a duo.

Speaker: Just me and you running blindly through the streets with vacuum cleaners and silks. Unknown radio. So there you go on that night. So before I ask you if you like him, I have one small fact to add that I thought I'd wait for the end. Seeing as poor Mimikyu has only wanted to be loved and have a friend.

Speaker: I am very happy to tell you that Mimikyu ranked third among all Pokemon in the Pokemon of the Year 2020 poll, and it also ranked number one among all the Alola Pokemon. Do you know what? I like that. That's cute. Full circle. Yeah. He's made it. That's some character development. That is. And that's... Alola Pokemon includes Pikachu in that. Yeah, but...

Speaker: A Lola Pokémon are just like original Pokémon, but they're like, oh, but we'll make them cold. Oh shit. Don't even get me started on that anyway. So he went full circle. He is beloved. Oh, I like that. That is cute. I had to give us a happy ending for Halloween. We did. And the genocide. Yeah. Well, you know, we're in a bit dark. Always. So what do you think?

Speaker: of Mimikyu. I'm a fan now. I didn't know a lot about him and now I just thought he was a creepy guy to be fair. And now I've got a bit of a soft spot for him actually. I'd be his friend. Yeah, me too. I might be going to build a barrel during this, you know, next week. Pick one up. Just for a Mimikyu? Yeah. You just walk around and pretend to lift the top off and go... Catatonic shock.

Speaker: Take a picture of it to my brother. Whoa. Oh, sorry if this gave you catatonic shot. He'd be like, what are you talking about? Nah, he'd get it. All right, that's Mimikyu and our Halloween episode done. Thank you. You've taught me a lot this week. I've really enjoyed it. Me too. I enjoyed skipping forward 700 Pokémon. Well, yes, because the ones we've got next are going to be crap.

Speaker: Oh, what you mean? You mean so exciting about Weedle? Oh, buzzing. Yeah, it's gonna be great. Love Weedle. Woo! Love him. And Pidgey. Yay! All right, on that note, I don't have a cute sign off for him. I just want to tell Mimikyu from the bottom of my heart that I love you. Oh, that's cute. Oh, I'm just gonna say goodbye.

Speaker: Nice and solemn for Halloween. See you on the flip side. Got you on the flip side.
