This week we discuss some things to do with the money you get from your gift returns, oh right and BIG news on this side of the pond. Possibly the biggest since the launch of MLR, no joke. Of course we recap all the games in Europe, including that incident at Allianz, and start or sit makes it's return for this coming weekend in the Prem.

Fantasy Premiership Tips and Christmas Shopping

00:01:50
Speaker
make sure that you're subscribed to us on Apple Podcasts, Google Play, Spotify, tune in, all those great places.
00:02:00
Speaker
Oh me, I did that again. Ah, you did better this time. Much better head today. Phrasing.
00:02:14
Speaker
Where was I going with this? Oh, yes, of course. The rugby man. Guess what? It's time for fantasy premiership again. And you better get your upgrades because if you haven't got them yet, this is a good time to try it. Buy yourself a Christmas present. Yeah, right. There you go. Perfect. Perfect excuse. Buy yourself a Christmas present. You got a little Christmas money left over, right? There you go. Perfect.
00:02:33
Speaker
Or when you, you

MLR Growth and Big Signings

00:02:34
Speaker
know, you returns up, you know, for turns having a day after a day action. I assume that's what people do on boxing. That's what we do here. Everything goes back that you didn't want. Right. And believe me, you're nice about it when you get it.
00:02:49
Speaker
But then afterwards you're like, I'm fucking so returning this thing. This did come with a gift receipt, right? Where's the receipt? That's how you know you screwed up. Somebody starts asking for the receipt. Most of the time people are nice and they're just off of the receipt. So I don't want to know. Here, do what you will with it. I don't care.
00:03:10
Speaker
So yeah, give yourself a rugby mag upgrade. And again, especially since Ben and I will be out next week, give Fancy Rugby Geek a follow and a read because he's gonna have some good stuff for you. Ben and I will do Start Sit next week, but you won't hear from us other than the Festivus special,

Ireland Rugby Camp Announcements

00:03:30
Speaker
which won't have a whole lot to do with Start Sit, unfortunately. So, c'est la vie. But give him a follow for sure. And then, super rugby's coming.
00:03:40
Speaker
It is we got the location. It's kicking off early this year. Really? January. Oh, wow. Last weekend of January. Oh, man. Yeah. So we are going to we're going to be putting the pedal to the metal come new year here. Our our old league did restart. If you're listening to the show and you are in our old league, we're going to shut that down and we're going to start a new one. So I'll put a message up in that message board saying if asking

Rob Howley's Ban: Implications

00:04:04
Speaker
if you want in or out, I'll make sure I copy down your email addresses so you get the invite to the new league.
00:04:09
Speaker
And then I have an idea to discuss with Ben, but we could do some fun custom scoring, but we'll, we'll get to that later on. We'll get to that later on. Um, but yeah, this'll be super rugby is going to be real interesting this year. Hopefully it's not the summers last year. Yeah. I'm hoping not.
00:04:26
Speaker
Well, I don't think they can really get away with it. I agree. At this point. No, not after the World Cup. Not after the World Cup. No way. I think they'd be silly to do that. But yes, we'll do a little Super Rugby preview sometime next month here in the meantime. And maybe we'll get the live draft recorded like we did last time, because that was a lot of fun. Yeah, that was a lot of fun. Despite driver's trucks disrupting things, but that's the story we wrote every day.
00:04:54
Speaker
um news and notes the beast is coming stateside news today that dropped
00:05:00
Speaker
even even

Plum Tree Joins All Blacks Staff

00:05:01
Speaker
more proof at least for even for us so so i don't know how how closely any of you overseas follow uh major league rugby especially because it's only coming into its third year um so it's still uh an emerging that's its infancy for

Champions Cup Match Reviews

00:05:16
Speaker
sure but at the same time it's getting some serious names um that that that are lending it some serious credibility and legitimacy um the beast
00:05:29
Speaker
go I almost so I was texting back and forth with Jared about about this happening and I almost texted him yeah keep it in your pants and I'm like wait a minute it's not in my pants either just hang out there
00:05:46
Speaker
Yeah, him and the Japanese prop for the Freejacks are Kante. I guess they faced each other in 2015 at the World Cup. So that'll be a fun match. Yeah, April 18th. Mark that day down on your calendars if you live in New England. That's going to be Old Glory DC who the Beast assigned for against the Freejacks.
00:06:06
Speaker
We'll have our tickets. Yeah, we do. Hooray! This just made my free jacket ticket value just feel so worth it right there, that one guy right there. But I mean, San Diego signed Ma Ananu, New York signed Basro, you know, and there's a couple of, you want, Digby Juani's in the league, I think he's playing for Juan Manuel Liguizamon going to Seattle. That was another one that we missed.
00:06:31
Speaker
Wow. So yeah, there's a lot of names in this league that, I mean, this is what MLS kind of had to do. They had to bring the big names to put the bums in seats, but they are growing some talent obviously as well. Right. And that's helpful. Well, it hasn't shown any results for USA soccer, but hopefully the MLR is a little bit different and helps us, especially because rugby is still an emerging sport in the US too. So you're having a credible league.
00:06:57
Speaker
um that you know a professional league is huge because you know one of the reasons why i never played rugby in high school was i was like you know even in high school college all that was like there's nothing to do afterwards but having an actual professional league is like hey i'm a pretty decent athlete maybe i'll give it a you know give that a shot so they're not making it in the nfl so agreed
00:07:17
Speaker
Yeah, that'll be a whole lot of fun to watch and obviously with all these names coming over here might be worth a road trip even yeah, so I'm I'm looking forward to ten diamond mentor coming in here and Doing his thing and I don't care if we win or lose that day. I'm just gonna enjoy watching him Honestly, yes, I mean I'll care but I won't care nearly to the level of just enjoying the rugby
00:07:39
Speaker
And other news, Ireland have named their camp for the new year. Obviously these are not, you know, whatever. These are not going to be names that necessarily go to the Six Nations, but there's some fun names that are in there.
00:07:53
Speaker
Um, Kaylin blade, who we'll talk about in a little bit. He's, he's got the, uh, he's got a nod from Connick. Um, Ross burn, who played pretty well this weekend as well. Ronan Keller. That was a good one that I saw along with Kaylin doors from one star. Those were big name, good name that I, that I was happy to see in there. Um, Cooney getting a look. Yep. Cooney's getting a look. I mean, he's got to, but he's, I mean, especially for the, for just for the champions cup alone. Um, he's played out and played excellent.
00:08:20
Speaker
He might be the best ScrumF in the competition. Currently, yeah. Yeah. Hard to argue with. Billy Burns getting a look from Andy Farrell. Obviously, Andy Farrell being English, and Billy Burns is English-born, but never even got a glance from the English. So the Irish are going to give him a whirl. He's got a residency, so he's there. Yeah. And he showed some amazing toughness this past weekend.
00:08:44
Speaker
I can't believe he tough that out. Yeah. Rob Herring is in there from Ulster. So this is what we're down to. We have Rob Herring, Neil Scannell, and then Ronan Callagher, and Dave Heffernan. Who's going to take Rory Best's place?
00:09:04
Speaker
Good luck. Yeah, you're replacing. I mean don't be able to take his place, but they might take they might they'll wear his they need to wear They somebody's gonna wear that too Jersey. Yeah, so Yeah, godspeed to you. Don't try and be Rory best you be your best self and Sorry the pun You be your best self and you'll be just fine there young man. Yeah, it's a little be interesting
00:09:25
Speaker
be interesting to see how Andy Farrell does as the head man. I don't think he's had a head man job for a while. I think it was just in club rugby last time I looked. So we shall see how it goes. Former Saracens player as well, obviously. Right, obviously. That's the reason his kid's playing for us. So yeah, we'll see how that goes.
00:09:46
Speaker
And then not

French Rugby: Performances and Injuries

00:09:48
Speaker
really unknown news, but kind of just like the final thing. Rob Howley banned 18 months for his gambling issues. You can shit on him all you want, but it's a problem for him. It's a real addiction. It's not something to just tell him to go fuck himself or anything like that for you. You have to address it as
00:10:09
Speaker
He's sick, and that's how it is. It really is not something as simple as, Oh, he's a piece of shit. And I don't love his offense to tell you that because he was kind of the one that's definitely, uh, brought that Warren ball and just made it a little bit better, which wasn't pretty obviously, but also did some great things with whales. But it's at the same time, you know, I don't sit there and tell him he's a piece of shit as a person because I just, I mean, don't, I realize that, yeah, it's a sickness and all that, but, but
00:10:38
Speaker
Why why would you bet on rugby like that's a shit ton of things you can bet on other than that? Yes, true. We saw this just recently You know bringing it back to it to the US There was a player for the Cardinals some NFL player. Yeah went to a casino bet on a
00:11:00
Speaker
football, bet on the NFL, including his own team. He's on injured, so he's not playing right now. He's injured reserve or something. But he even identifies, because you have to identify your occupation, and he said football player. Like, all the alarm bells, and they're like, oh wait, this guy, this has the same name as the guy who plays for one of the teams he bet on. Fucking idiot.
00:11:21
Speaker
That makes you stupid. I'm absolutely and I will always be sensitive and compassionate to people who are sick. I wish them the best.
00:11:34
Speaker
But at the same time, I want to fucking smack him upside the head. What are you doing? They're doing that. Yeah. You know, fucking cricket. I know it doesn't make any sense, but you can still bet on it. Like you bet on soccer. You can write every there's so many things you can bet on Russian hockey, which most of it's fixed. Right. So like it's there's so many things you can bet on that weren't rugby. Just don't pick rugby next time. Maybe that's the one thing we can probably say about it. Yeah, that's that's the one thing.
00:11:58
Speaker
Yeah,

Jamie George Incident Aftermath

00:11:59
Speaker
because I don't think he probably wouldn't have been banned if it was something else. Probably not. But if you bet on the sport you're involved in, that goes all sorts of bad ways. I realized there's a competitiveness aspect to it, too. But dude, just do something else. Yeah. Think a little bit more next time. Just a little bit more. It wouldn't have taken a lot. Yeah, exactly. Just be a little smarter. There is a thing, and I don't remember why the hell it
00:12:25
Speaker
What I was always taught when I was growing up was, you know, if you're going to do something stupid, just don't get caught. Like I would get in trouble if I did something stupid and got caught, not because I did something stupid because everybody does something stupid. I would get in trouble for getting caught. So yeah, don't do that. Figure out a way that you don't get caught.
00:12:44
Speaker
Yeah, maybe that's the better way to go. And other news that I just found not too long ago. As I feared, Plum Tree has gone to Ian Foster's all black staff, so the hurricanes are
00:13:01
Speaker
looking for a new coach and they've actually got that I think they just elevated GCN. Oh man, I was just about to submit my resume. Yeah, I'm sure that you would have made a great coach and I don't know. That's my team, so I'd rather you didn't coach.
00:13:19
Speaker
If you want to coach like, I don't know, say your own team or the Blues, go for it. But not that team. Sorry, buddy. Lester. No, none of that. So yeah, there's that little bit of news as well. And then we had some rugby this weekend and it was we got good games. We got some good games. Even the low scoring ones were entertaining. Yes.
00:13:43
Speaker
Those were still classics, so you've seen some really ugly games that are low scoring. You've seen some ugly games that were high scoring, but at least those are points. Got us off to a double kickoff on Friday night.
00:13:58
Speaker
wrestling

Leinster's Triumph Without Sexton

00:13:59
Speaker
and ospreys at that weird stadium in Paris. I'll never get over it. It's definitely a home-field advantage for them, just bottom line. Anything weird, anything that sets off, you know, that's just non-usual, you can set off a visitor. Yeah, very, very, very odd.
00:14:15
Speaker
Slightly depowered by Anthony class and was on was on the side sideline Finn Russell obviously being the big name that was left out Those those names were were not on there Teddy Tomah was not in the lineup for wrestling No problem. Yeah, it didn't seem like they needed any of them had their bonus point within the first half It was a wonderful offload from national to Zebo Zebo's first try and Champions Cup at the very least Wow I don't know if it's his first one in
00:14:43
Speaker
Play it all this year, but okay. Yeah, definitely definitely first time champions cup Rossling we're doing an excellent job of what they wanted to do was spread it wide and that and it just thinned out ospreys defense ospreys weren't ready for the hit ups that we came up with the middle later on and they got torched um imaf looked brilliant no problem, no problems without teddy tomah, uh, his his replacement got a got a score as well because
00:15:09
Speaker
After having so many inside hit-ups, Osprey said, oh, let's go, let's go close and tense up. Nope. Let's just go. So they figured it out and said, ah, let's just spread it wide. No problem. That's the worst when you're out. Like when you're on the, it's the best when you're on the winning side of that hosing, but it's the worst when you're like, all right, we make this adjustment and then I'll wait. Fuck. They're over there. And then we make it. Okay. We're going to go spread out. Nope. They're going to hit us up the middle.
00:15:34
Speaker
Oh, you can't do anything, right? Nope. It's just, yeah, it feels like you keep guessing wrong. And at some point you just turn into the ref. Like, can you suppose blow the fucking whistle? Give me a good long blast and we're good. Should we be done with this? They obviously when Rossing took off, took their foot off the gas, the things opened a little bit for their Ospreys. Ospreys did get a bonus point. I think that was their first point in the competition so far. They,
00:16:00
Speaker
Obviously for no shocker very uncreative and attack Marty McKenzie seemed to only have one option every to pass to every time he got the ball So I was like, yeah, you guys gotta probably figure out how to get you know I don't know who they're if they've come to a final head coach yet, but they need to do that fast if they want to have a shot at getting back in this competition next year and not really embarrassing themselves in the pro 14 and
00:16:25
Speaker
Rousing did smash them. They looked really good as you'd expect. They are in firm control of this group and nobody's surprised. They're probably gonna win this group.
00:16:41
Speaker
then we had ulcer

Premiership Previews and Fantasy Picks

00:16:43
Speaker
and harlequins and uh start as a doozy it's and it was it was a real like slog through the first half um i mean first off you got we talked about billy burns getting uh getting hit uh you know taking a rough shot on trying to tackle alex dombrandt yeah would not recommend um
00:17:03
Speaker
Definitely not common the commentator team. I loved it said burns as a piano player rather than piano pusher And he stays in and every you know every Breakdown after that the medical team is like like you sure like they're kind of half like taking a couple steps on the field He's like waving off like it
00:17:23
Speaker
fuck out of here. He's like, no, no, no. I got it. I got it. So give him credit for his toughness at the very least. Absolutely. And then at the quarter mark, we had two Quinns getting HIA's, Will Evans, Brett Herron. Neither passed. Neither passed. They both failed. They didn't have to stay off. And Quinns got a little loose with it. But they were still down, only 3-0. Until late in the first half, they tie it. They did tie it, yes. Pretty much immediately.
00:17:53
Speaker
Yeah, it was on the kickoff was when the, uh, uh, what was it? Ulster just went end to end. Uh, Stockdale gets loose. Oh, the wrong guy. Don't let loose. Oh yeah. And, and, um, so Stockdale's loose. Who, who was there with the, uh, Faddis was there for the, cause he's another guy you don't want with him. Um, and then he cuts back inside and who's waiting, but John Cooney. Of course he is.
00:18:18
Speaker
try uh his first

Holiday Wishes and Sign Off

00:18:20
Speaker
of two tries on the day he's been immense for this club absolutely and that obviously is it was a well-deserved uh call up at least for the to to to get a look um for the the national slide and just after that it kind of just fell apart we went in it was it was 10 three and a half um and then they bookended that
00:18:38
Speaker
Uh that halftime try essentially it was like 46 there like 30 30. Yep. Looks like 38 conversion. Yeah 38 minutes conversion came at 40 40. Um marshall goes over at 46 minutes Um, he is a freaking bowling ball. Yeah, and then 12 minutes later that kuni goes over again and then then the route's on I mean at that point it's it's pretty much it's open crying Um kind of yeah ulster had carved him up
00:19:05
Speaker
And it was like I said entertaining game Even though it you know the final score of 34 10 looks like I was a blowout But no the first I mean that was really tight for the first half and then the second half was just all Ulster Certainly gonna set up a big match at Claremont Yeah between these guys in Claremont and we'll get to Claremont in a little bit here But obviously that sets up a huge match for them coming up here
00:19:30
Speaker
And then I did catch the first half of this game. Actually, no, I caught most of it. I just didn't pay attention to most of it. Benetton and Leon. It was a decent match. It looked like a decent one. What happened essentially is both sides traded, not playing defense. Benetton just kind of... Go ahead. Right. But it was a little bit of an ole. A little toro toro. Right.
00:19:56
Speaker
So, yeah, like, it was, uh, Ben on 10 scores two tries in the first 15 minutes. So I'm kind of like, Oh, okay. You know, I see where this is going. I just watched what Ulster did to the Quinn's figuring the same thing was going to happen there. It didn't, uh, Leon actually decided they want to be in the match. Um, and, uh, they, they ended up coming back, taking the lead in the 25th minute. And, uh, you know, there's some penalty kicks and Ben on 10 unlocks the defense again to go over, uh, with about seven minutes to left.
00:20:25
Speaker
um to take it again is just a lot of breakdowns in defense dude that took it took it over looked like he was a freaking house uh the big flat it was a black background or wasn't running or something like that i don't i don't recall it anybody down big boy uh but yeah like definitely
00:20:42
Speaker
somebody that you might see in an Italian shirt, not too far down the road here. Yeah, he definitely had the eye for the truck. Yeah. Lazaroni. Yeah, that looks like it. Yeah. Yeah. Big boy. Not fucking around. Right. Rudy Wolf got over. Yes, he did. Which is awesome. There was a rumor that he was coming this way as well, but maybe I missed that.
00:21:02
Speaker
Nothing nothing may have come of it either. So Rumors are rumors, but yeah tell you until you get the news from the team page. It's not necessarily official Right, but I mean wolf took broke like felt like I was like three or four tackles when he got over like he broke the line meet
00:21:18
Speaker
Oh, no, no, I'm sorry. He didn't he only broke through like a double tackle kind of split a double tackle Neither decided they wanted it. They were kind of both thinking. Oh, you know, you're gonna take it. No, you're gonna take the hit And there's there's just nobody behind the dinner yeah all you sinners over there, right
00:21:35
Speaker
So I don't know where the fullback was, but he wasn't home. I don't know what the scrum half was. He wasn't home. So he should have broken four tackles. He only had to break two. Fair enough. Good on Benetton for getting this thing done. Yeah. They need a bit of a kick in the ass against the top 14 leaders. So good for them, 25-22 for Benetton Treviso, or Benetton Rugby, as they're now called. Play didn't Treviso, though.
00:22:00
Speaker
And then, oh, did you get to watch any of this one? No, I did not. Oh, it was Dandy. Was it? Oh my, was this a Dandy. Some fantastic tries. I don't think I can pick out too many more than a couple of them. Play was pretty good overall. It definitely seemed like there was slop left and right. Guess what? The breakdown was a lottery? Guess why?
00:22:28
Speaker
French referee Roman plot Exactly, I think I might have watched some of it. Yeah So to to get to the the good stuff Reese damn it was Had a beautiful break. Yes an absurd off. Yes accidental Lloyd Evans pops it into Ludlow and Ludlow falls over and
00:22:51
Speaker
But my wouldn't I mean the kids magic. That's all I got to say They're gonna you're gonna see a lot of him in the premiership this year I have a feeling and maybe maybe even higher than that. Yeah, possibly Don't have enough wings, but he's also well. He's also Welsh born. Oh, is he? Yeah, so maybe not see him Give him a call. So that was that was very good stuff. I've holy holy hell as I impressed Atkinson had two tries one of which
00:23:17
Speaker
was an intercept try after a thoroughly break and but they turned it over da da da Atkinson reads it like a book and takes the try over anyway and then he had a nice little offload that he was able to gather from maybe Ford Robinson or something like that anyway he falls over and then the finish
00:23:35
Speaker
So it's a yellow card for Gloucester. Which Hammerhead got it. Ludlow got it. Kind of silly. Just too much in the red zone. So they had to eat the yellow card. It's almost like a repeat of Ulster and Quinn's last week. So they muscle it over. Yeah.
00:23:57
Speaker
And then and obviously they needed they needed the full fiver, though. They couldn't just go for three like Ulster could. Right. And they got it. It was, you know, they figured out where the where the extra man was. Good. Copeland gets an offload off the deck. I don't remember who it was, but it was a questionable pass. It was probably straight up. And there was no good angle to say otherwise. Right. So and I thought I was like, yeah, play on, play on. And as soon as you got that offload, there was nobody home behind. I was like, this is this is over. This game's over.
00:24:23
Speaker
They checked it couldn't find anything conclusive try set up Connick stay alive in their pool. Good on them This is the team that battles again. Caitlin blade was a huge part of this as well as they had a dual Distribution ship with Fitzgerald and cardi on the field as well. Okay, that certainly helped them
00:24:41
Speaker
Yeah, glosser didn't look bad. I'm not gonna it's really hard to say, you know, they're forward stepped up big time Obviously Atkinson made a couple of huge plays because as we talked about he is so underrated And he'll be talked about more as the season goes forward. I have a feeling but they hadn't been talked about enough at this point
00:24:58
Speaker
So it's not like they didn't deserve it. Both teams definitely deserved it, but uh lost or just couldn't quite finish the job So conic take it over 27 24 and their hopes are alive We'll talk about The results for the next two rounds when we get to them in january, but oh, oh got my I got excited and I don't care about either one of these teams speaking of which the Montpellier to lose match
00:25:24
Speaker
All equally again, I think as we you know, the Mm-hmm. It's just they've been cracker match after cracker match. No different here a Little loose. It was nice to see it was interesting to see Nigel Owens Referring the the hell French all French one. Yeah. What was it Barnes last weekend? They got this one. I think so and and
00:25:47
Speaker
I'll give I'll give him credit too night. I as hard as it is to give Nigel Owens credit for anything No, he was he was fantastic and he kind of refereed a French match He kind of let them do some things and he laid down the law when he needed to
00:26:01
Speaker
But but he led a lot. There were a lot of possible four passes. Knox kind of offloads that were extremely flat that you know what? Fuck it. Let him play like there that didn't really affect what was happening. So it's not as though anybody stopped or was like it was clearly forward. So I was like, no, just fucking play. It did kind of that that did pop up late just because we don't as that match gets tight towards the end.
00:26:26
Speaker
Those little things matter more, but he kept it consistent, so good on him for that.
00:26:37
Speaker
Peek-a-mole injury two minutes in non-contact. I yeah, I didn't see that good. Nope, and he's he's there Yelling on the ground after not being touched. That's never a good sign. He was trying not to yell but Couldn't help himself. Yeah, you can't blame the guy. That wasn't it was a nice touch because he used to play for to lose before When he started out, so it was there were a lot to Louisiana's that have respect for him and I
00:27:01
Speaker
Obviously a lot of his French teammates are on the other side as well. Certainly, I think it was made out of that came over and gave a little smooch on the cheek there. There was a lot of, everyone was like, oh no. Took the air out of the building. Yeah, and it took a little bit to...
00:27:18
Speaker
Get him out of there. To get him off, but also then just to get back in the match. I bet. Intimac was gorgeous in this game. Was it his try that was from Medard? Yeah, from Medard, yeah. I'll give them credit. They had the nuts to say, we're going to play this thing out. We don't care. Right. And it worked. It did. Good on them.
00:27:38
Speaker
And Rory Arnold, I think he had a double, if I'm not mistaken. Yeah, he did. He had a double. His second one, he picks it off at like, you know, 30 meters out and there's nobody in front of him, picks up a pass and he's like jogging and like flops over the line.
00:27:56
Speaker
As a giraffe and then they they brought him out You silly little giraffe That's great
00:28:12
Speaker
Colby also had to come off a little bit. He's got courage out the ass, but Nadolo's huge. He can tackle the big boys, but the big boys for the most part don't move nearly to the pace that Nadolo does. That's the problem. That is the problem.
00:28:34
Speaker
Yeah, the one thing is, uh, the commentators didn't like, uh, Nigel made a decision that there's a late scrum, um, where Toulouse were clearly boring and not driving straight. Um, and the scrum wheeled without going forward for Toulouse. And so gave the penalty to Montpellier and that they,
00:28:50
Speaker
Announcers like oh, no that would they had the a-sentency. It's like no. Yes, they controlled the wheel, but they didn't go forward Gotta go forward. So gotta go forward but to lose end up getting over for their bonus point try anyway get to one with the offload and Toes in somehow stays in play as he scores. Okay, the tip toe
00:29:08
Speaker
Yeah. And it kind of slid and the feet were close. It could have been like he kind of slid sideways in a way. And that's one of those where if you keep the toes up, you're in. You're not. You're out. Yeah. So he stayed in. So it looks like Toulouse are all but a short of a quarterfinal. Yeah, just about. Just about. And then what else do we got here? Oh, yeah. A match that's near and dear to our hearts.
00:29:38
Speaker
What? You talk about doozy. This was a doozy and it wasn't a high style. You don't see a 15-6 match very often. It was a good hard fought match now. You also usually see the medics shut the fuck up and stay up with their own team. Agreed. But that's another story. We'll get to that.
00:29:55
Speaker
There was obviously an incident, but it was it was a tough start to monster in the first 10 minutes. And before they had Ohmani got dropped from the lineup. Burn went off very early. And then they had one other guy. I think Ryan went off very early as well. Between the three of them, that's those were big losses to have within the first 10, 15 minutes. And they still rocked up pretty hard. And we can I mean, really, we can point at one spot where things took a turn. And it was that the tussle that
00:30:26
Speaker
And I'll say this on the incident and then we'll get back to the rugby. Jamie George is one of the nicest guys out there. He is somebody that's usually pretty happy-go-lucky and pretty just overall pleasant from the words I've heard and the things I've read. So if you've said something to get him that mad, you've said something you shouldn't have. And so what I think it was,
00:30:51
Speaker
Was and I won't say what I think what the words might have been because I don't know and I can't confirm um The word fat was involved. So yeah, so he was he was he was going so there was one that he he almost he was gonna walk away twice Yeah once he started to walk away and i'm pretty sure that's when the derogatory term about his weight was said and he turned around and probably just told him to shut the fuck up
00:31:13
Speaker
He was a little further away. And then and something else was said that set him off. And I believe that was a comment about his family, which is a no, no, no, no. And I'm sorry, you are a medic. You're going to have 15 guys come between you and the player anyway, which means you are a coward. You're counting on 15 other men to fight your fight. OK, that makes you a coward. You should not be on this team anymore. I believe he should be sacked.
00:31:39
Speaker
And that might maybe be an asshole. I don't believe there's a place for that shit in rugby. If nothing else, it was fucking stupid. No matter what, it was, you know, the classlessness of it. You know what? I don't really care about that. If, you know, I'm thinking about this from a, you know, if I'm running the squad, I don't care that he is talking shit to a player. I mean, I do care, but that's not nearly as much as know your timing and when to do it, because
00:32:10
Speaker
There's certain clubs that you you start winding them up and they fall apart Yeah, Saracens are not that club. No, they're not. They're gonna get fired up and be like, all right, you know what? I'm not gonna throw a punch because I'm fucking smart. I'd love to see Mako of Unipola in the middle. That was a riot. The casual squirt of water. A little comic relief from the man. He's like, I'm just here to make sure nobody does anything too stupid.
00:32:33
Speaker
Uh, thank you, Mako, for providing that. Like, they're not gonna, they're not gonna go all, like, get, get all, you know, ballsy and, and go hardo and be like, oh, we're just gonna fucking fight you. No, that's not what they do. They're like, all right, that's what they're gonna do. Let's just score two tries and walk away with a win. Yeah, and that, that really fired up the Saracens. From that point on, they were a different team. It was obviously very curious that, we'll get to French refereeing in a little bit,
00:32:57
Speaker
Um, but the decision went against Farrell for coming, for running in when I'm pretty sure 25 other guys ran in. So I don't know how you can ping one person in particular. I think you just, you, you sorted out and you go with whatever the call was on the field. I don't remember what the call was originally. It was going to be a line out to Sarri's. Okay. So yeah, whatever it was going to be, whatever it was going to be. Cause he was going for the ball to throw it in. Jamie George was, and that's when the whole thing kicked off. Um,
00:33:27
Speaker
Yes, it's just like I don't understand that that penalty because you know Yeah, very very French colic you said right
00:33:36
Speaker
Uh, and then, and then after, after Saracens had, had the ascendancy and got a scrum in the, in the attacking end, uh, Billy Bonapola decides to eat four defenders and offload Sean Maitland for a walk in. He does that type of thing, man. That was, that was not great. Uh, I thought it was French referring being the lottery where there it is. You know, you can, you're going to say what you're going to say about it. I guarantee you a monster wasn't happy about it and neither were we. So trust me, it's, it's, it's a mutual feeling. I promise you.
00:34:06
Speaker
But in the end, Saracen stay alive, 15-6 at the Elions. They have, they're going to Osprey's and then they host Rassing and we'll see what Rassing's mindset is at that point and we'll see what the standings look like at that point. So we shall see. But in terms of qualification, there is a team that's already qualified and that is Leinster Rugby. After their show without Johnny Sexton,
00:34:32
Speaker
At at the Aviva comment redacted from me. Yeah What a show that was They were they were they were on fire Jordan Larmor was amazing along with James Lowe clearly Gary ring rose found the try zone three times and he found it the first time very fast
00:34:50
Speaker
It was a change squad for Northampton a little bit. I think they're more or less conceding the competition, or at least they decided they were going to give some guys some rest. Bigger was not one of them, but Kois Reinach was, along with Tamana Harrison and Tom Collins, I believe, also got a break out of this one. They tried to rock up after a while.
00:35:11
Speaker
uh, tom wood was done a little bit hard. He was probably on the ball and given, uh, but still a word of penalty, but the referee had already had it built up, built up in his mind that north end to we're infringing at, at, uh, the breakdown. So yep. He paints the wrong picture of the referee after a while, six, seven car penalties in, whether you think you've won it clearly or not. Yeah. Not going to work. And he ended up getting the yellow card as the, as one of those buildup. Yeah. So.
00:35:37
Speaker
Really unfortunate. Bigger was definitely trying his ass off. You got to give him that. Had a quick tap that eventually turned into a score. He ran offload, got back to his feet, and took the offload himself over. Nice. I mean, the guy's cool, calm, and collected because Northampton scored. They were looking for their bonus point for the try. He took a drop kick with like 10 other guys milling around him like it was nothing, like he was all alone in the stadium.
00:36:05
Speaker
I was just like this guy's good and I know I realize the pressure is mostly off because they're getting walked but you know, it's it was he still very easy going and just very very very cool common collected so you gotta give him that and then a Definitely an up-to-up side note for no attempt and Mattivacy makes his debut for the team. Okay. Yeah came in off the bench. I Awesome for him What happened to Tom? I'm sorry to Alex Kohl's
00:36:32
Speaker
uh hia okay yeah i just saw that he was subbed at three minutes yeah yeah hia took him took a pretty pretty good bang there um as it happens in this sport unfortunately you know just not something you can do a whole lot about
00:36:48
Speaker
It's a drubbing, for sure, for Northampton and they couldn't even rock up and get their bonus point, unfortunately. So it's gonna be up in the air for a couple of these English clubs on what they do. Not all of them have the depth or have developed the depth that they need. I mean, Ross Byrne looked every bit the part that he should and he's deserving of his call up because he's had to play quite a bit.
00:37:13
Speaker
Um, he played very well at Franklin's gardens last week when Sexton came off and he's played extremely well in this. So I will give him a lot of credit. And I think that is a well-deserved, uh, call up there. So the, uh, Linsterman have qualified as the first team. Yikes. Onto the beautiful Scottish weather we saw in Glasgow. That's all the closest to this match. It looked awful. So.
00:37:39
Speaker
The La Rochelle just to give a sense of what happened. They lined up in the first half going into the wind for a kick at goal from about 40 meters out, pretty much dead on. So not the most difficult kick, something you'd expect any quality kicker to make.
00:38:02
Speaker
not into this window. It got it got past like you could see it like by the time it hit the ball was at the 22 it was moving mostly vertically. Oh no. Oh what a disaster.
00:38:17
Speaker
And then just kind of died, like, about 10 meters short of the try line and the posts. But that was kind of how the match was. It was 12.5, 35 minutes into the match. So we had our final then. 12.7. 12.7, sorry. Yep. That's right. Jeez. That's not pretty.
00:38:39
Speaker
Yeah, um, like good, you know, it was a good well-fought match to that point I will say that that barnsy I'd love him. Mm-hmm. He fucked this up. Did he? Big big time. Mm-hmm. It's unfortunate. LaRochelle had like the last set so around like, you know, it's right around the the the end of the third quarter moving into the fourth. Mm-hmm. Um, LaRochelle had the last seven penalties, uh, really no warning, um, no no talking to, um,
00:39:08
Speaker
And then there continue to be penalties on them and so and and at one point the the the glasgow captain Basically the whole fucking team and the stadium is like what the and the commentators everybody's like there's got to be a car There's not even he hasn't even issued a warning yet
00:39:25
Speaker
And like, Barnsey's saying like, no, no, no, go, like, I don't want to hear it, you know, like blah, blah, blah. And he saw right past the point where he's like, well, they had two penalties at the breakdown over there. They had two penalties at the line over there, two penalties at the scrum over here. So it's like, it's not like they're consistent. And it's like, no, every phase, whatever is happening in the match at that exact point. Right.
00:39:48
Speaker
LaRochelle are are infringing. Yeah are infringing. So it's like it's not that that okay They're separate types of penalty. It's just know whatever is going on here. They're they're they're They're um earning penalties and it's like you at that point you got to just be like this one Fix your fucking discipline. Mm-hmm, and he didn't do it Finally, he gives the yellow to ballet for kicking the ball out of the back of a scroll Oh
00:40:14
Speaker
Fucking idiot, but it there should have been a penalty try like a penalty, you know a couple of scrums before really it was bad and instead La Rochelle are able to Kind of flip the script from from last week when when glass goes defense on their own goal line There's what saved Glasgow right in this case
00:40:34
Speaker
LaRochelle did what they would enough to, you know, that they gave them out. Right. He held him out. They held him out. They I mean, to be fair, they did have a yellow card and Glasgow couldn't score in the yellow card at all. They couldn't get any points. Yeah. And that's a lot of it. That was their own mistakes. But at the same time, Barnsey kind of gave LaRochelle a lot of rope. OK. And and they they they went with it. They did it. Yeah.
00:41:01
Speaker
that this did end similar to last week's oh yeah that's right no no no that's how it ended fuck I forgot I hadn't even gotten there my notes
00:41:13
Speaker
They find they the glasco score late in the match right to basically to win it I saw the highlights and then you hear that check check check check coming from the tmo that never ends well, um and Do you like so? Uh, there was uh matt fagerson threw an elbow into prizo's throat neck area and you saw you could see that like right after the tackle Uh prizo was kind of writhing on the ground like just flopping on the ground and not looking like he was in good shape That's not fun. Anyway, it looked just like he took the worse of the tackle, but I mean
00:41:42
Speaker
He did, but part of it was he got an elbow to the net. He probably shouldn't have taken an attack on the fashion he got it because it was illegal. Right. And it was bad. He did throw the elbow out. It wasn't as though it was always there. He threw the elbow. It was clearly targeted there. So the try is disallowed.
00:42:01
Speaker
Yeah, figures and gets the random game is over man. So just kind of this really unfortunate there for Glasgow Kind of getting screwed over a couple times, but then that was their own fault that that that was their own in the end Yeah, so you gotta use your brain on that one Yeah, so Glasgow's ticket. They took a dent. Yeah serious dent right there Then we had the Sunday games and then on to the uh The premiership matchup
00:42:29
Speaker
Hey, I mean listen, this is the this is the way I would expect this premiership match to go. Honestly. Yeah Well, I did watch this and and so we're gonna get to it later sale have a pretty good defense Maybe that's because of their opponents at this point they've had in the in the premiership because exit are just Basically just rolled them. I mean
00:42:51
Speaker
The sale were never really in this match. The closest they got was, you know, around the, um, again, that three quarters of the way mark when they, when, uh, Sam James made it 21 10. Um, James brothers playing, playing next to each other. That was fun. They did well together. That's good. Um,
00:43:09
Speaker
and uh the the the real story of this besides exit or just a housing sale uh pretty much some start to finish um was uh was the hail stopping the match right i did i was like what is that is hail holy shit yeah um so right after that that that sam james scores his try and you could hear the it sounded like just really heavy rain and then they're like oh no this is hail
00:43:34
Speaker
Yeah, I was like that does not look like rain and they couldn't there's no way that they They were gonna be able to look up and catch a they want they might risk it. Let's let's risk. Let's not risk it fair enough
00:43:48
Speaker
Jono Ross, actually, interesting, earned his team a penalty kick from a post-try restart. So Exeter, get the try, and then they can convert, and then immediately they have a penalty kick at the 50-meter mark.
00:44:08
Speaker
Also, they're on their back foot again, right? Oh That's the worst so and that's and that's basically how That's basically how exit er. I got their lead cuz
00:44:21
Speaker
Eventually, like, uh, yeah, they, they, they kick it down. There's a bad throw by, um, I'm sorry, exit or give up a penalty, bad throw by sale, uh, exit or scrum. Scrum penalty kicked a corner. Sam Simmons, cause he's delicious. If your last name was Simmons in this game, it was a good thing. Yeah. They, they, both of them played.
00:44:40
Speaker
You know, Joe Simmons is really coming as much as I've been has I've been I've been hesitant to put him in the category of Pretty good fly half. No, he's becoming a pretty good fly. I'm officially he's officially better than stinks. Oh, absolutely There's no question about that No question in my mind. It hasn't been hasn't been since the last two times that they've had to
00:45:03
Speaker
But they started this season with Steen's and in the end, they end up going back to Simmons anyway. So never made sense to me, but whatever is what it is. But Hoggie is working his way in. He and Slate are working. We're working really well together. I can't imagine why. Yeah. And then, of course, Jack Knowles around, too. And he gets over for one. Steen's fucking good. Yeah. So we had the two Simmonses and a Knowles. And I don't remember who else scored. Oh, yeah. I don't remember who else scored. Moon.
00:45:31
Speaker
Moon, of course, the fucking proper proper. This was like his 200th game for exit or something like that. Wow. I heard I was just like, damn. Yeah, good for him. So he's been around. He's one of the few that's been around since they were in the championship. And he's he's got England caps. So I mean, hats off to Ben Moon. Yeah, that's a great achievement right there. And, you know, obviously had a had a pretty good career to be be where he is now and to be getting England caps. So definitely hats off to the man. Awesome job for Ben Moon.
00:45:58
Speaker
An awesome job for Exeter. They look like they have figured out Europe. Yeah, so good for them. Right. You know, this is this is what, uh, although again, again, I it's hard to call this a European match. Um, but yeah, with two membership signs, I totally understand. But they certainly have figured I think they're they're doing well enough in this. They hammered La Rochelle and they hammered Glasgow as well. So and and those were home and away. So it's not like they can't perform in Europe at this point. At least they don't have the
00:46:28
Speaker
It doesn't look like it's different for them at this point. They seem to have figured out their formula for this as well. I hope for their sake, I hope they do well once they hit the knockout stages because that would be good to see a non-Saracens team from the Premiership do well. I mean, I'm proud of the Saracens for being that team, but at the same time it's been really disappointing if you're an English Premiership fan to see that they're the only teams constantly making it. The last two years especially, it was just them.
00:46:56
Speaker
Yeah, so so it'll be nice to have have company if Saracens can manage to do it themselves Hi, but there's still English teams in this competition. We'll get there when we get to The next rounds in January right there. They're still in there Yeah, speaking of teams and in this competition not really anymore Claremont and bath Claremont ran away with this one pretty early They got they got their for they got their bonus point try fairly quick um
00:47:22
Speaker
Really ugly incident after their initial try was Eziella and Brew colliding on the kickoff. Brew went up for it. It was just a rugby incident. There was nothing dirty about it. But really unfortunate to see something like that come off with both guys having to leave. Eziella definitely got the worst of it because he was on crutches the last I saw him. So I hope the kid's okay because he is brilliant. He's an awesome player for Claremont in that he has a bright future.
00:47:49
Speaker
Pinnell, Rocca, Lopez, the names you'd expect. When Ezialak came off, Pinnell was at 13, he bumped out, and that was only bad news for Bath. There's not a lot of good things to say about Bath. You can see it a lot. Claremont did get sloppy.
00:48:06
Speaker
and got ill-disciplined so they did start to concede points. Bath did get a bonus point. Eventually, Rory McConaughey finally shows up. I don't know if they can say that this team, if I were Bath, I'd take this game taken probably.
00:48:21
Speaker
at least toss away the first half because it wasn't great. Raka was performing as you'd expect him. He was back this time around. He was amazing. He had two tries and not quite a try assist, I think, but still awesome. Tuya Sova was brilliant with his vision. He set up one of the Raka tries. Lopez set up another one and he scored his own off a quick tap. The Claremont team, when they're full go and they are in full form,
00:48:48
Speaker
They are terrifying. So just keep your eyes peeled for this team. You know, they are the the bridesmaids, but never the bride. So maybe this is their year if they continue to play the way the way they looked for the majority of this match. And obviously when things got way out of hand, they took their foot off the gas, although I think it was McIntyre's final try.
00:49:09
Speaker
It was quite a brilliant piece of play if you haven't watched it go watch it Penno ends up being the setup man But whoa a lot of good play there from Claremont Claremont take care of business though over the over the Bathman and they are in They're heading on a collision course with Ulster right back there at the Stadmarshall Michelin Come January here Okay
00:49:38
Speaker
starts back to prem back to prem time baby all right yeah all right back home back to the back to the not so crazy stuff and not having 10 matches a weekend which i love but at the same time it's like there's a lot to consume here it is a lot to consume
00:49:57
Speaker
Um, so we are we will do ask tfry this this weekend. I'm not my travels aren't bringing me anywhere until saturday. So Yeah, I will be I will be around and ben will be as well. So we'll be available for i'm on yeah i'm on i'm done So first off i'm done work until after the first so exactly fuck me. Um
00:50:18
Speaker
So I'll be lazy and maybe taking advantage of the legal options in Massachusetts. And you know, perfectly willing to chat rugby on Twitter. But hashtag asktfry, we'll be checking it. We'll be checking that, especially Friday when the lines come out. But in the meantime, we will do
00:50:38
Speaker
Give you our best start advice that we can here today, um without knowing a damn thing about the lineup So though we'll find out we'll find one out tomorrow. Um, i'll try and get this pot up before then So we'll start with uh, start off the battle of the stairs. We got a Worcester and Gloucester Gloucester, um it's so
00:50:55
Speaker
back to king's home we go yeah and Worcester are kind I feel like Worcester of I mean I don't feel like it they just have have fallen off uh from from last year um they're still at their top four for now for now I don't think that's gonna last hell of a lot longer playing butt butt butt yeah um
00:51:17
Speaker
So, but then their, their defense isn't, is really kind of, uh, porous. So, so yeah, exactly. And their attack isn't all that great themselves. They're not really scoring that, that high themselves. So it's hard to figure out who to start from them at this point. Um, so it's basically all matchup based.
00:51:33
Speaker
Um, so we'll start with the visitors for Worcester coming in. Um, if, if you're, uh, if you're in FRD fantasy, where would you have to start their front row? Um, because yeah, the Gloucester given up front row points to front rows and FRD. So, um, I would, yeah. So if you have the, if you have the Worcester front row or they're available and you're not really liking your options, they're, they're a good pickup. Nice. Um,
00:51:58
Speaker
Also Duncan Weir Has been doing okay But uh Gloucester giving up a lot of points to flyouts and I'd start parry Humphries Guys who you'd have on your team who I I? Yeah, you kind of play but you know, you don't know what to expect who garden and Cornell do Priya Are two options to the F you got them especially in in TRM play up. Oh, and I've already actually both both options You could play them but but I wouldn't cap the number of them temporary your expectations on them
00:52:28
Speaker
And then guys who I would I would sit or expect very little from our Nylinette. Said Hill Sam Lewis, I don't think they're going to do so well. Gloucester aren't given given much up to to flankers. Kitchener Ryan Mills, Ashley Beck, put them on your bench. Don't don't don't. Yeah, don't put them in the stands, maybe for Gloucester. Pretty much fucking everyone the way they're playing right now, they're going to be putting up points.
00:52:59
Speaker
So, you know, even, even the front row, cause, uh, Worcester are 11th against front row and FRD. So, so both are startable. So, so both are startable here. Um, Gloucester, I know from experience have been very, uh, their front row have been disappointing it to at best in FRD. I'm gonna play on this week. Um, Moray, uh, Joe Simpson, Danny Cipriani, Ackerman, Marshall Thorley, those guys you want to play. Nice.
00:53:21
Speaker
Uh, yellow again guys who if you had them play them, especially if they're starting, but, but certainly don't captain them in, uh, in TRM are, uh, Ben Morgan Atkinson. I don't know, but, but they're, but Worcester are shutting down centers. So, yeah, they've got, they've got a decent center pairing. And Peledry just cause who the fuck knows if he's playing. Yeah. Who knows if he's playing, I guess you've got to, you can roll them out there, but still.
00:53:43
Speaker
And and sit uh 12 trees and monster and grubler the the the Wooster are shutting down locks. So I wouldn't bother with either of them There you go. I mean especially most are so expensive too. Yeah, he's not cheap, but especially in uh in an frd Yeah, if you got monster pick up some yeah, I mean any lock with a pulse is usually decent. Exactly. There'll be there'll be one available. Don't go with monster Yeah, there's plenty out there
00:54:09
Speaker
Yeah, Wasp and Quinn's at, are they up at, yeah, they're up and running, so they're at the cuff. They're at the Rico, there's the one. So there'll be names that you definitely want to start, because Quinn's actually are surrounding quite a bit as well. Roland's, Carr, either Hooker, Cruz or Taylor's fine. Jack Willis, not Tom. Tom's probably not gonna play much more. Minazzi, Soapawaga, Kiberige, yeah, all the back, but the back three, Kiberige, Watson,
00:54:38
Speaker
Bassett the likes of that definitely rolling out there Robson's probably a sit in TRM because he's too damn expensive anyway But FRD probably be okay with rolling them out there doesn't cost you my anything like that Fekitoa is a caution on both But definitely sit him in TRM if you can help it and get away from the lost front row They're not great and Quinn's front row is actually being a real pain in the ass to others. So go ahead and pine them and
00:55:01
Speaker
Uh, you know usually you're looking for I mean it's tough to sit a lot of front rows in uh frd for prem But you there's a couple there's like four you probably want to get away from a weekend So those are the guys that you don't want to play and I believe that lost for one of them
00:55:16
Speaker
for the quins. The back three also are probably viable options for the most part with the likes of Aaron Morris and Ipatoye and Chisholm. So go ahead and roll them out there if you feel confident in it.
00:55:31
Speaker
Danny care and there's definitely somebody you can go ahead and get out there They're back rowers of with the likes of will Evans and and law day and Dom brand and Rob Shaw and feel good about it Marcus Smith. I would start There the one place that what loss are being a real pests are the front row and the lock so Sinclair Marler any of their hookers their front row on FRD Louise and Simmons nope and
00:55:59
Speaker
if joe marshland plays i wouldn't play him either although it looks like he's probably not going to play now that the super rugby season is coming up so i i wouldn't expect to see the likes of him very soon no i guess i'll have to cut him yeah there'll be a cut right there although you can you can draft him right
00:56:14
Speaker
Sail versus Northampton. This is going to be a fantastic matchup to watch. I think Northampton are going to do to Sail what Exeter just did, but we'll have to see. Sail, for fantasy-wise, they're still the top defensive fantasy team in the league.
00:56:33
Speaker
Which will be strained if if not, but probably won't be broken just based on the the distance They've put between themselves in the second and third place defenses So that's gonna affect kind of you know, I would Again, Northampton have so many possibilities in TRM and FRD. So
00:56:53
Speaker
It's not as though you just say shut them down, but kind of temper expectations for some people. So for the guests, for the Saints, definitely roll. Oddly enough, there aren't many teams, for sale being so good, they're not good against centers, which is odd, because centers don't normally score all that many points. But this is a good week for Hutchinson and Proctor. Yay. And I would also start bigger in Reinack, too.
00:57:20
Speaker
Those are those are probably those are probably auto starts anyway, right? But those those guys should still be getting really good points For the yellow, you know kind of temper expectations for Nair Voro Collins for Bank and Harrison Since sale do very well against the eights And pine the the front row and FRD And they're just basically front row front row players, you know, the Waller painter van Wieck the Frankses. Yeah those those are players Yeah, don't don't bother starting them this week. I
00:57:48
Speaker
for sale Look to the kind of the into the middle of the pack. So JL Dupree the curry twins Jake Cooper Woolie Ross Harrison. These are guys you you want to be starting still Dupree has been up. Oh, I don't know
00:58:04
Speaker
That's one thing I would wonder about. That's a good question. That's one thing I would wonder about. I did not consider that. Yeah, that'd be the one thing I'd consider with that. But yeah, if it's up, play him. Right. The yellow, I would say Robert Dupree, if he's at 12. If he's at 10, he's a wreck. Yeah. Yeah, don't play him at 10. So that's player dependent, or the position dependent. Position dependent. He'll be playing, but if he's at 12, yeah, play him.
00:58:25
Speaker
Um, also, uh, Daniel Dupree, Akir Vandemara, um, and the front row are all for an FRD. They're all, yeah, play him. Don't expect much. Uh, for the guys who you should probably, if you can avoid not playing or if you can avoid playing at all, um, AJ, I love you, AJ, but not this week. Not this week. Uh, Robert Dupree again, if he's a 10, don't play him. Uh, Jono Ross.
00:58:47
Speaker
And Hammersley are guys who I would avoid this week. That's a big name right there. Yeah, it is. But the Saints are doing really well against the full backs. Hard to blame you. OK, Lester Exeter. Lester are definitely surrounding a boatload of points, but still her Exeter. So this will be interesting.
00:59:04
Speaker
Although Exeter have come come up and come back to reality a little bit since their first the first four weeks there Last week, they definitely redeemed themselves a little bit Front rowers for Lester actually you could probably be okay with the source with the likes of Genj and Cole Guy Thompson should be an auto start for you as well. And then Callen Green's a good one. May's probably in your you're probably starting them if you have them on in both anyway, so no big deal and
00:59:29
Speaker
The front row is okay this week. It's not a week. It's not a front row. I'm normally okay with starting But this this might be the one of those weeks that you can back three again, Mae, Vailanu, Olofella Be okay with it. I think I'm hard to expect there as well and The cautions especially the let these are guys I would start in T and F and FRD only Ben Young's Tui and Ford
00:59:55
Speaker
Because the likely because of one the capital that you invested in them in terms of draft and two because you because you're not worried about price or anything like that They'll be worth rolling out there anyway, and whatever points they suck in Bateman is the only front rower I wouldn't play taufua and tauta if that if he ends up playing for lester i'd pine him as well Exeter have a laundry list of guys that I would roll out there because lester are terrible in terms of
01:00:19
Speaker
Fantasy so both Simmons Pick up pick your favorite front rower. We go ahead with him, especially LCD definitely obviously the front row as well Slade back rowers are gonna be fine in this one with the likes of Ewers Armand even you know vermulans been really good and he's fairly cheap in TRM if I remember right and then you're back three, especially hog of clarity know go ahead and roll them out there and
01:00:44
Speaker
And then the only guy that I'm really cautious about is Joe Simmons. He just doesn't score a lot in TRM So if you if you have an FRD, he's fine. Go ahead and play him. But other than that, geez, but yeah, no outright sits really in my brain that I can think of I mean The lower end guys like witness stuff like that if he plays especially if he's playing on the wing don't play him Yeah Depends on who's going to go up against I suppose
01:01:10
Speaker
It's almost like, yeah, I think for that, for Exeter this week, it's almost a kitchen sink thing. For basically anybody who's playing last year, they're probably going to be scoring points. So onto the match that could be, this could be a fantastic match. Yeah, this could open up a lot. Sarri's hosting Bristol. Bristol are a good defensive squad, but they haven't faced anybody with a firepower that Sarri's are bringing. I think the closest they came was Exeter.
01:01:40
Speaker
Um, and if I recall correctly, they gave up some points. They gave a lot of points up too. Yeah, they're one, but they gave up a lot of points. Um, so, but the, the big four, I think, as far as, uh, the Saracens are concerned, um, for, for, I'm going with the host this time, uh, first, um, uh,
01:01:59
Speaker
Have a have a very good feeling about Elliott daily this week I think because the way he factored into the play this past the past couple of weeks Especially as the the studs are coming back for Saris I think he's gonna tear it up and I think he's gonna have some a lot of open space based on everyone else who's who's gonna be playing and
01:02:18
Speaker
So I think he's my big starter from Saris, along with Owen Farrell, who should be especially in FRD, where you get the kicking points too. Then Mauro Itoje for his, I think he's going to be a defensive stalwart. And then Billy Vunipolo is, yeah, do I really need to explain? For the yellows, the medium range guys, for FRD, the front row for FRD, I'd go with them.
01:02:46
Speaker
Ben Earl, Ben Spencer, and Jamie George are guys who, yeah, I'm not sure what to expect. You'll get some points, but they're not going to have, I don't think they'll have huge days of all of those. I think Earl and Spencer could have some days, but not sure. And it also depends on, I don't know that any of them are going to start. Jamie George is likely to start, but I don't know that Earl and Spencer will.
01:03:08
Speaker
And then the reds, uh, skeleton and cruise, um, and my, my big thing. So skeleton is my sit of the week, not only that, but I am selling on skeleton. If you have skeleton in, um, and in TRM, get the fuck rid of him because now is the time. You know, while you.
01:03:24
Speaker
Right you got a toejay you got Cruz You got Nick is equal. Yeah, you know what? He no longer needs to be that big that big presence, right? He's gonna be a rotation guy He's not gonna be the huge points getter at all and he's too expensive to keep around for for the Bears My I'm looking at big things from Charles Pia tau Surprise surprise and likewise start shitty
01:03:52
Speaker
As always, you're in a rattle. Yeah, rattle or urine. Don't worry about whether or not they're starting as the two scrum halves. They're going to play about equal time. They're both going to get a bunch of points, even with the little bit of time that they will play.
01:04:08
Speaker
Uh, and jonafola because out of the proposition, he's good. He's he's been pretty fucking good. He's pretty good. Um, for the yellow, uh, again, uh, for f for frd, the front rows are, I don't know what to expect exactly. Both of these teams are doing pretty well against, uh, front rows. Yep. Um, lewittua, uh, in, in, in TRM.
01:04:29
Speaker
Um, I don't think i'd start him in frd. Yeah, he's a red in frd. Okay, there you go Thacker vuie morahan are guys who are not sure about um along with uh, the frd lewittua uh in the reds um hues and o'connor don't don't play them. Yeah And I didn't get around to it early, but joe simpson for gloster is my start of the week. Oh, okay Yeah, we'll get to that in a second. Um
01:04:54
Speaker
Irish and Bath. Again, this will be a game that you probably can feel comfortable starting most players, but it's just a matter of, can you hit on the right one? Both teams are running points left and right. Irish, it's the big names. Naholo, Loder, Feinga, Rona, Not, pardon the front row.
01:05:13
Speaker
to a sewage should be somebody you definitely roll with an FRD because it's a lock. TRM can probably get away from it if you can help it. Both in cower and the loose forwards are actually the one position that the that the bath the bath men are doing well against and so both and Cowan have a seat.
01:05:30
Speaker
for the bath. I need a bath after last week. Mercer, if he's healthy, go ahead. Jules and Ellis, the front row, along with all the front row players, so Abano, Dunn, Stewart. Stewart? Judge. And then if Anthony Watson's back, I've heard rumors that he's been back in training, or is coming back to training soon, so go ahead. Sam Underhill, Samisa Rockland, Duke Union, Tom Homer, you can feel good about.
01:06:00
Speaker
Uh guys that you probably have to start in frd, but it's not a great option the likes of roberts and priestland And if you have max clark and frd, please drop him. Go away. The fuck is your problem? Yeah, I saw I was like I see people that have him and I don't know why uh sit the front row this week get to top front rowers to sit I think it's actually the top scoring one, but apparently London Irish do not give up much to front rowers in frd So be very cautious with that one and we'll subtly sit in both formats
01:06:29
Speaker
And you've given your start of the week which are Joe Simpson and your start of the week, which is Big Willie. My start of the week will be Sturthog. That's a good one. Oh, that's a good one. And then my start of the week is Front Sword Huguard. Same game, or not same game, same game as Joe Simpson that you picked. I'm sitting him because he gets a lot of his points in attack.
01:06:52
Speaker
on average, and I don't know if Wooster's going to have the ball a lot. So thinking about that and where he gets his points from, I'm going to go ahead and pine him in both formats if you can help it. There's bound to be a starting scrum half out there that you can get to. So go ahead and pine Mr. Francois, who got.
01:07:10
Speaker
All right, let's go to pick them and then we can gtfo this thing. Yeah. All right. So starting with that Friday night match, Gloucester and Worcester, it's at the King's home. And that makes it very easy for me in that case. I don't I don't think this would be that hard no matter where this fucking game was. Yeah. If it was at six ways, I might give I might give Worcester a consideration. A consideration. Oh, they might. No, no, no, no. Austin Quinn's. This is actually not fun because it's at the Rico. Fucking Quinn's. OK.
01:07:38
Speaker
I don't that it's gonna be hard for me to pick wasps. Yeah, that's true. I'll give you that one. Actually, they've had they've had their struggles Going up to the EJ Bell sale in Northampton. I'm not picking against the Saints right now. I mean, you know my The sale is an intriguing option. Yeah, but but until they can prove they can do it consistently I'm not gonna go with it. There you go. Lester. Wait, is there? Nope. Never mind. No There's not another team in this match. I don't think I don't care if it's a wellford road I
01:08:07
Speaker
Saracens and Bristol, ooh, this will be a tasty one So yeah, but you don't know who this no, no, no, you know who the Saracens are starting at this point They don't have a fucking choice being this far down. No, they they're they're constantly I mean you've seen it. They've did a little rock squad rotation last two weeks. Yep
01:08:24
Speaker
You know and they've been able to tough it out with a bonus point loss and then a win at home so I think they've done the right things in the last two weeks to Be able to call on the full noise and I think they will go for noise My only question is does the full noise include Ben Earl? Or is it Jack's on on the bench? Probably yeah, I think I think Jack's will be starting Jackson
01:08:49
Speaker
And then the Sunday game Irish and bath. Oh boy. This is not a pretty Barf I'm sorry back. I'll back the team that doesn't have the douchebag on it. Beth. Yeah, me too So there we go. There's that All right
01:09:07
Speaker
Okay guys Man, but it's uh, it's the holiday already. It is after I think all the all the time we started back at the world cup and All that stuff and we're only five weeks into the premiere I know right terrifying and that was the thing about that I read about the friendship like Because the front load the prom cup. There's no easy games left or the premiership teams. I
01:09:30
Speaker
Like as you find out which teams really suck, you can tile it back a little bit. And obviously I think depending on who you are in the last round of Champions Cup, you can figure out who's gonna go full noise and who's not. And so we'll see how that goes. And then there is a little bit of a break as well, but man, it's gonna be tough stuff. There's weeks off that they take for Six Nations and stuff like that, which is great.
01:09:51
Speaker
So we'll see how that goes. These teams, these bodies are going to be pretty tired by the time June comes. They will. But until the next time that we see you guys, everybody have a safe and happy holiday. I'm sure you guys will. If you don't listen to the Festive of Special Year, you're wrong, number one. But if you happen to just miss it, have yourself a safe and happy holiday.
01:10:15
Speaker
If you're celebrating Christmas, Merry Christmas. If you're celebrating Hanukkah, Happy Hanukkah. If you're celebrating Kwanzaa, Happy Kwanzaa. All those things. All those wonderful things. If I missed one, I apologize. I'm sorry. I'm trying here.
01:10:27
Speaker
But other than that, we'll talk to you guys after the new year, and it'll be, we'll see what we're after, because that'll be after the Exeter match as well, for the Saracens. So that'll be a done day. So everybody step back, enjoy your time with your family, and have yourself a good one. Be safe and be ready. Cheers.
