Hello and welcome back to Minds of Metal. My name is Daria. And I'm Laz. And today we're here recording a video for you spontaneously reacting to Metallica news that came out today on Monday. An hour ago actually. So the announcement was new album, new tour, new single.
00:00:31
Speaker
Yeah, quite a lot. The new single is called Lux Eterna and it is one of the tracks from the new album called 72 Seasons. What should we do first? Album, tour, track, you choose. Let's talk about the track.
00:00:48
Speaker
so short about three and a half minute pause yeah and very fast speed metal to the max very much so really very much kill them all vibes yeah as soon as i heard it just from the first 30 seconds i completely thought kill them all and it's interesting kill them all 1983 the new album 2023 is this a little 40 year anniversary of Metallica
Excitement and Skepticism about Revisited Style
00:01:12
Speaker
it might be going back to the roots yeah but you were saying to me listen to it you said how simple it was why do you explain that so i just think it's based around a very simple guitar riff you know very repetitive simple guitar riff the repetitive drum beat
00:01:32
Speaker
and phrasing is easy. The bridge in the song as well was not like, from what I remember, we only listened to it like once each and then once together but the bridge was just hits wasn't it? That was it. So I think they've purposely simplified things, I think they've purposely
00:01:50
Speaker
not made an intricate, involved bridge with loads of notes and solos and this and that. It was just very simple. It really reminded me of the song, the opening track of Kill'em All Hit the Lights. So go and listen to that one and then listen to Luxa Turner and you'll hear it. Did you like the track?
00:02:06
Speaker
I didn't love it. It's not my favorite Metallica track. And if their new album is a celebration, well, we're just assuming, aren't we? It's like their anniversary of Kilimol per se, kind of going back to where they started and stuff. I don't think I love it because there's Kilimol and I love Kilimol because it's the first one.
00:02:26
Speaker
yeah you know i think if this is an album track as in one of those filler tracks then i'd be happy because i don't know if i'd love a whole album of this stuff kill them all's great but there's a reason it's metallic has passed you know i like what they've become with death magnetic hardwired i wasn't a crazy fan of but i still like the direction they're going in but anyway we're making like huge assumptions that this could just be one of the tracks like this
Speculation on '72 Seasons' Meaning and Track Names
00:02:48
Speaker
Anyway, hugely excited about the news. So, new album called 72 Seasons coming out April 14th, 2023. There's going to be 12 tracks on it. And interestingly, I thought I'd just quickly look into the name 72 Seasons. Oh, yeah. I've got no idea what this does. I tried to do some maths. I was thinking, is 72 Seasons the equivalent of 40 years or something? But it doesn't work out that way. What I have seen, two things.
00:03:14
Speaker
In Japan, supposedly they have 72 micro seasons throughout a year.
00:03:19
Speaker
So the way we have spring, summer, autumn and winter, apparently there's 72 micro seasons in Japan. So could this album be a little Japanese inspired? And the next thing that needs me to talk about that is that the final track of the album is called In Morata, which sounds very Japanese to me. There's no other track on the album that has a sort of Japanese sounding name. So that's all we're working off really. The name of the first track, which is the Japanese seasons. And then the last track, which sounds like a Japanese word in Morata.
00:03:47
Speaker
I mean, anyway, it's very exciting.
Surprise and Excitement Over Announcement
00:03:49
Speaker
When I went on Instagram and I saw that I'm supposedly Metallica reads a singleton, I was like, why didn't I know about this before? They kept all hush-hush. It's the kind of thing with Metallica, they're so big that I kind of would have expected them to say, oh, seven days a countdown, seven days until and everyone's like, oh, well, but they just kind of, out of nowhere, just hit us with this. That's probably even better. It is better because it just takes everyone by surprise.
World Tour Dates and UK Speculations
00:04:18
Speaker
So shall we talk about the tour? Yeah. Let's do it. So I'm looking at the dates now on the poster. There is about 26
00:04:28
Speaker
cities they're going to. Now this is odd because it's a world tour and they're covering places, you've got a bunch in Europe, you've got Canada, America, America, America, Europe, America, America, Mexico. There's no England, what is that about? Well they're going to be in download, so I think download festival will be their England days. You're right though, they should come here, but there is a gap between May and June, there's a gap. I wonder if they're going to throw in a bunch of English days because
00:04:56
Speaker
We're too big to miss, come on, everyone knows the world revolves around England, so...
Tour Setup and Supporting Bands
00:05:01
Speaker
It's true though, no, but it's true in a way because of the musical world, you know, it does, London is the capital as well. And you're gonna get a lot of people, you're gonna sell out all the shows here, so I'd be very surprised if they didn't announce a mini UK one. But interestingly is the amount of bands they've got with them, so they're doing this thing where they're
00:05:19
Speaker
They're doing two shows in the same city, two different sets per show, and two different sets of support bands for each show. And they're gonna do the show in the round, which means they're playing the show in the middle of the arena and the fans are gonna be all around them. They're playing on a circle in the middle, which they did for the Death Magnetic tour, which I went to see and it was really, really cool. But here are some of the bands they're doing. I'll do the first, you do the next. They're doing Architects and Mammoth,
00:05:48
Speaker
Okay, then we've got Five Finger Death Punch and Ice Knight and Killz. Then they're doing Pantera and Mammoth. Volbeat and Mammoth. And Greta Van Fleet and Mammoth. So nice raise. Again, I wonder if they're trying to get the same people to the same shows because you're not going to have repeat sets. You're not going to have repeat support bands. It's like with this set for download. They're going to have two days with two different sets. So it's like all this theme, you know, of two things going on. Yeah, I agree.
Album Cover Symbolism Analysis
00:06:18
Speaker
What do you think of the album cover? Different. It is different, isn't it? All burnt up. Yeah, but notice the cradle in the middle. So I'm kind of wondering if this is like a metaphor. The cradle looks after a baby. Is this Metallica's cradle from 1983, and they're now breaking out of it? Good. You're going for philosophic. I know. Yeah, it's probably analyzing it. But you've got the burnt guitars. Yeah. I can't really see what all this stuff is. What are they? What is all this stuff? Some wheels, sunglasses, a clock. There's like toys. Headphones, skateboard.
00:06:47
Speaker
Yeah, very honestly, but the colours are lovely, that really vibrant yellow contrasting with that black and the burnt brown. Look, is that a dawn? Are we seeing a dawn? Yes, sun, sun. Dawn of Metallica 40 years ago.
Engagement with Fans and Farewell
00:07:00
Speaker
Exactly. Are we seeing a return to form? Is this Metallica's speed metal album 40 years in the waiting?
00:07:09
Speaker
So please share, like, subscribe, do all the normal stuff. Share this with Metallica fans or just share this with any metal fans you know. And have a lovely day. Have a metal day. See you soon.
