It's another bit of geeking out combined with a draft, hey alright we finally got one! It's one of a different breed and unfortunately we don't get through it (despite the length of the episode), BUT we do get to dive into some thoughts about it AND an update from both CYL divisions. Yes, of course we give out those Start/Sit things we liked to do, along with our Start and Sit of the Week in TRM for the Premiership. Have a cold one and let's get to it!

Introduction to Fantasy Rugby Draft

00:00:08
Speaker
Hey, everyone. It is the Fantasy Rugby Yanks. My name is Ben Louser. I'm Jared Dyke. And we're doing this backwards because Jared's still fucking with his fantasy team getting it set. So we're doing a semi-live draft here. We are using Fantasy Rugby World FRW, which is only available in app form, not yet available on the on the online exactly. So far, it seems to be interesting. It's an auction draft. So you
00:00:39
Speaker
Take, you have a team of 23, you bid on a bunch of players within that 23. And I don't know how the first round is going to work. I think it's whoever bids the highest. So if, you know, I've bid on, I'm not going to fucking hide it. I've bid on Ellis Genj. And if someone else has bid on Ellis Genj and they bid higher, they get him. But if we bid the same amount, then Genji goes back into the pool for round two and the bidding resumes.
00:01:09
Speaker
That's my understanding of it. So we will see. It's gonna be interesting to see who exactly, because we've never done this before. I don't know if this is brand new this year. I don't know if this has been done before. Yeah, it'll be interesting. Yeah, so it'll be interesting to see how this goes and you'll ride this with us.

Draft Strategies and Tactics

00:01:28
Speaker
Yeah, so I'm still putting in my bids. I'm interested in seeing what exactly constitutes like an overbid.
00:01:36
Speaker
And, and what, um, what's like an underbid, like there's some guys who have said, you know what, I'm just going to put in for them at their cost and see if I get them because maybe I think they're a sleeper or someone who might not attract attention in the first round. Yeah. There's definitely some guys that went cheap on and like, all right, bang on. That's what I'm going for. Right. Cause it's also like, if I don't get them, I'm not going to cry. I'll find someone else. Right. And that's the thing like.
00:02:03
Speaker
you also have to leave enough in your budget to grab something worth a damn too. So it's really it's a hell of a balance. This is this is very different than the one I thought we were going to be working with, which was

Auction Process Differences

00:02:14
Speaker
or somewhat to what I thought we'd be working with, which would been like the ESPN NFL fantasy auction, which I've done once or twice, and it's a different game completely in so many ways. And in that one, I haven't done it, but my understanding there is that you put up a group of players, and everybody can bid, or at least one player, and people can bid on them. In this case, it's, nope, free for all, and then we'll see what happens. Totally.
00:02:41
Speaker
And it's like, yeah, good luck. No, no, no. Get back here. I don't want to do that. So, yeah, in that one, you nominate a player and then you are, you know, and the one of the strategies for that one is, you know, basically when I did it, I nominated players I didn't fucking want. It's like, don't want this guy here. So I'm gonna take him, get him out of my way. So I don't have the temptation to grab him.
00:03:10
Speaker
And I can see what, you know, let someone else waste money on this person because I don't want nothing to do with it. Oh, cool. Justin's done. Oh, good. So we're waiting on you now. Or not. Oh, OK. Maxing and relaxing still not validated. Nope.

Team Names and Rankings

00:03:44
Speaker
Although I would have gone with fully-maxinated myself. That's a good one. I need this one. If you out there are unaware of... I use the same...
00:04:06
Speaker
team name for fantasy rugby no matter what. It's a perfect description of being grumpy old prop. You'll see it if you go to the leaderboards at TRM. You won't have to scroll. You'll see it in the opening page. I'll just say that. Not that I'm proud of that or anything.
00:04:32
Speaker
Of course, it's also we can keep you up there for a week for longer than one weekend. I'm sure that I'm going to come back down to Earth.

Future Planning in Fantasy Rugby

00:04:38
Speaker
I'll be I'll be like the still in the top 100, but we'll see. It always works that way. If you have a great week in TRM, that means that you're going to have to probably either eat some low point scores or or eat points in a. Another spot, yeah, in your roster changes because
00:04:59
Speaker
Yeah, I'm fairly top heavy on some teams that are going to be on buy in the future. Oh yeah, that's true. That's true. I have a few salaries. I have like four salaries and five quins. So I'm going to have to be intelligent in the next month or two. Yeah, I have to start off loading some quins because I have too many. And I'm going to be so screwed in a couple of weeks when they go on by. But the good part is after that,
00:05:27
Speaker
You know, getting rid of like, cause your saris and your Quinn's are going to be some of the higher scoring players, depending on, I mean, you know, borrow a toji and, and Dom Brandon's for so well, um, correct this weekend, but I think he's going to score that well this weekend. So right. Um, but then you got to get rid of him anyway. So yes, you will have to at some point.
00:05:55
Speaker
You can sort this by team as well. Yes. And that's probably the faster way to find the guy you want because otherwise you'd be freaking scrolling forever. Getting there. I believe in you. Yeah.
00:06:23
Speaker
Yeah. Half my bench and all my forwards. Okay. Slowly getting there.
00:06:32
Speaker
Let's do this. So I'm already fully, I mean, I guess, no, because that's the problem. There's multiple rounds. There's multiple rounds. So me telling me saying, hey, this is what I'm looking at, me asking you who you're looking at is not quite helpful. This is going to work unless you land with all the guys you wanted at that position. So I'm very interested in, again, my guys who I overbid on, I think, seeing if I get them.
00:06:57
Speaker
I'm fairly certain I overbid on a couple of people, but we'll find out if it was worth it or not. I way overbid on at least one of my forwards. I way overbid on one.
00:07:23
Speaker
I think people are going to be shocked at how much I overbid on another, but I think it still may work out well for me. Everybody's got their favorites, so sometimes you don't need to overbid, but your favorite may also be like 10 other people's favorites.
