Speaker: Today's episode I'm chatting with my friend Ashley Fowl. She's a certified nutrition coach that specializes in functional lab testing. We've been friends and have worked alongside each other for a long time now, so today's episode is pretty much a peek into five years worth of voice memos between us.

Speaker: We cover topics ranging from minerals to functional testing to personality traits and mental health. Stay tuned if you like the tea because we are spilling. I know you'll enjoy.

Speaker: Well, Ashley, we're so excited to have you here today. Can you tell us a little bit about yourself, who you are what you do, and how you got to where you are today? Yes. Thank you for having me on. My name is Ashley Pfau. I am a certified nutrition coach, and I specialize in functional lab work.

Speaker: So we do the nutrition portion, but then we can see what's actually going on specifically inside your body. I started doing this... How long ago?

Speaker: Three-ish years ago um is when I got certified. i have five kids ranging from ages nine. I have nine-year-old, two seven-year-olds, and two three-year-olds.

Speaker: Freaking insane. I always got to throw that in there. So that's kind of what started me on this. Like i um Had one baby, loved it. She was a unicorn. She was so easy. And I came from a family of five, though. So I knew, like, I understood. I didn't think, oh, wow, this will be so easy. I knew, like, whatever. I just didn't think I'd have them that quickly.

Speaker: ah So then we had twins. And basically, postpartum twins, like, destroyed me physically, mentally, emotionally, all the things. um And I just like was not satisfied with the answer of like, well, you have a lot of kids, so your life's so hard. Like, that's stupid. And i I'm like, this is there's no way.

Speaker: There's no way. We are that delicate of creatures to not be able to do what we were designed to do and be happy. Like, that's crazy. After that, I just kind of like dove into nutrition, food, ah just what our body runs on, how it runs.

Speaker: And then happened to get pregnant with another set of twins spontaneously. ah So we were just really, we were real arrogant and like one baby will be so easy after twins. Well, that'll be so easy, which, okay, it would have, but just kidding too. Again, that's fine.

Speaker: um And they were, they were still easier because i was nourished and I knew what I was doing. So it's fine. um But yeah. And then, I started to see the fruits of understanding like specifically what's going on in my own body as opposed to just like all the foundational things are awesome. And I still like take that as a the base of my practice. But once we can niche down and I saw like this small tweaks and changes that happened in my body, in my life, in my nursing babies, bodies and lives, like the trickle down effect of that. And I was like, this is so freaking cool.

Speaker: Like we can see so much happening through our hair and through our poop. And it's always telling us something. So like, where do we listen to it? And then, yeah, I got certified and I've been working one-on-one clients for like two and a half years now.

Speaker: That sounds about right. I think I was one of your first. You are, yeah. Plug it out there. I love your approach. And that's why you're one of the few people that I recommend my clients out to for testing because you're not like other practitioners to say it nicely who are idiots. Because...

Speaker: They will like run tests and i've I've had dozens of clients that have had this experience where they'll just get a bunch of tests run and then they're given a protocol and then they're told take these supplements do these things and then they're left to their own devices and what I've noticed over and over and over again is especially with like HTMA or GI maps they'll have a practitioner run it but then they won't have it properly read and it's things you know I'm i'm not certified in HTMA but I'm familiar enough with it now that when I have a client say something that maybe their provider told them with their testing, I'm like, that's not smart. Let's look at these things first. And so all that to say, I love your approach that is, hey, let's lay the foundations first. Let's get all of these things that you can do for free in line first. And then let's look at what's going on on the inside. Because that's just so helpful to have that data

Speaker: And I think some people chase the data too soon. and we've talked about this before, right? Like some people need, they need the lab results immediately. Right. Right. And some people, they spike when they get the lab results. They want the proof that they need to see it on paper to believe it. Yeah.

Speaker: Yes. To make sense of their, of their symptoms. But there are also people who have done every test and they will keep doing every test and they want every test and they want more and more and more and more lab work. And I'm like, for what?

Speaker: For it to tell you in a different way you need to change your lifestyle, that is all it's going to say at one point. There is never going to be, like, a functional lab test, short of something diagnosing you with, like, a life-threatening illness, obviously, that is going to be, like...

Speaker: this is it. This supplement will change my life. That doesn't exist. And I just don't know. i try to tell my clients that because they're like, do you think, and it's not to say the other lab work isn't helpful. It absolutely is. But like, I don't focus on there's so many other labs you can do, like so many.

Speaker: And they all provide a different like piece of information. But I guarantee you it's still going to come back to, well, why does it look that way? And that is based on your lifestyle.

Speaker: Like at some point, yes, supplements are going to be needed to eradicate something, to pull something back into balance, to help band-aid something while we work on it. But to keep it there is always your lifestyle. And if people don't want to acknowledge that or don't want to change it,

Speaker: They will chase test after test after test, practitioner after praitioner practitioner. They will just be in the cycle of like, what's wrong with me? Tears, a bunch of supplements. I feel better for six months. I feel like crap again because they are not changing the environment. They're just masking it over and over and over. Like the holistic world. I was just, who this I had a client. Maybe i was talking to this about.

Speaker: Everyone's like in the, cause like most of my, I think you two, like most of my audience or client base is pretty holistically minded, like came from the crunchy world and they all love to like, and I remember saying this too, like a long time ago being like, oh, the pharmaceutical industry is like a multi-million dollar, blah, blah, blah, blah. Like they make so much money. And I'm like, the wellness industry makes more money. Yeah.

Speaker: like they want you to be on things just as much as the pharmaceutical industry does and if you don't like I'm not saying every practitioner is ill-willed they're not but they only know what you know like I just had a client come to me who was working with a naturopath prior like we overlapped kind of working for different things but she's like hey do you want to just look at my GI map because I have it like and I was like sure and I was like what did he tell you to do for this And I'm like, either this guy is just so burnt out and like just been doing the same thing over and over and over and not learning anything else. Or i don't even know. I'm like, do not do that.

Speaker: Do not do that. Like that is wrong. And I just think there's this like also thought if you're in the wellness space with an astro path, a functional doctor, again, like no shade on all of I'm not shading all of them at all.

Speaker: But they just think, well, this this will for sure work. Like there's no way this could be wrong because it's holistic. And that's just like so not true. Like there's people who come to me who are on five or six more hundred dollars a month of supplements from their natural doctor to take six hundred dollars of supplements a month. I'm like, and they feel like garbage, which is why they're at my door. I'm like, are you crazy?

Speaker: Yeah, i I'll throw shade like I've gotten past and not throwing shade. Okay. Maybe I shouldn't throw so much shade. I think there's a time and place, but also I've just seen literally so many people. I'm usually the person that people come to as like their last resort.

Speaker: yeah Everything else has failed them. The exact same story we're taking. The most I think I've seen someone spend monthly on supplements is like $1,500 a month. They're paying supplements. I'm like, do you have any idea how much food you could buy for that? That is like what I feed my family of seven.

Speaker: Yeah. Like how how are you paying that much? How are you taking that many capsules daily? What's your kidney look like like? Exactly. Like there's just so much, but it's the same story over and over again. I felt great for three to six months and then all of my symptoms came back. My digestion is destroyed. and My hair is falling out. I don't feel good. And by and large, you know, like when I work with someone,

Speaker: we pretty much are not taking any supplements until something could potentially be helpful. Like I kind of come from the mentality that at a certain point, everybody's gonna need magnesium, right? Everybody's gonna need to take magnesium in some form, right? Cause we just can't get enough through food. But we don't want to start magnesium too soon before we get enough sodium and potassium because that's going to cause problems. And so there's people that are like taking all this magnesium, thinking it's going to heal all of their issues, but they're getting no potassium and sodium. And so, of course, they're swollen. Of course, their digestion still sucks. And it's just like, okay, let's, again, pump the brakes.

Speaker: Let's look at why your body is burning through magnesium so quickly. Let's look at, you know, why are... where you are in your lifestyle. I love what you said when you were just doing your little like introduction. You have five kids and you just got to a point where you're like, there's no way that our body could do something that it's designed to do. And then us to be just fragile, break down immediately after it and ah I'm sure this has been your experience. This has been my experience.

Speaker: My last pregnancy was my best pregnancy. and it was my third kid. the I was just more nourished. Like I felt better. i wasn't worried about everything. I wasn't chasing every single symptom. If something popped up, it wasn't like, I am the worst. My body is failing me. It was like, oh, okay, maybe I'm. maybe it didn't sleep super well last night. I am breastfeeding, you know, a toddler while pregnant, probably need a little bit more carbs today. Like it's not a big deal. I'm not going to spiral over it. It's just wild seeing functional medicine industry from our perspective.

Speaker: Because it can be really great. And also it can be really misleading. And you would assume, one would assume, that those things would be investigated like prior, like food, water, sleep, sunshine. And some are, some do for sure, but some are not, not at all. Like it's almost creating the people who have found me from functional medicine,

Speaker: They are the most hypervigilant, symptom-stressed, panicked women I have ever seen. And i'm like, what is... Okay, like if we just peel everything back and we're trying to be we're trying to heal... like i i don't love I don't love that terminology because it's like we are literally never going to be perfect in this world. like It's just literally never happening. So like we're not going to magically have all these... so We're never goingnna have anything come up ever again. Silly.

Speaker: silly no But if you want to heal, i'm like, what are you going to do when you're healed? but well What's your goal? Like, what are these? And these women are like, I, most of them are like, I want to spend time with my family. I want to enjoy them more. I don't want to be so uptight.

Speaker: I don't want to be so tired or like just not feel good. Or I want to, I want to start a family. I want to conceive. I want to do all this. And I'm like, okay, so you're going to wait to live and enjoy your family until you're healed. Like,

Speaker: Like they're not going to go up for the weekend to the cabin because it's not or their organic food that they that they would normally eat or they don't know who cooked it or they don't know how it's cooked and they're not going to go out to eat with their family because it's cooked in seed oils and it's cooked in aluminum. And I'm like, but when you're healed, you'll go do those things?

Speaker: Like, because that's living. That's like living your life with your family that you want. You're going to go do it then. No, you're not. What are you talking about? We got to peel back what health is and healed is. It's not the symptom-free, live in a bubble, never have to deal with the real world. And I do think the holistic world has got there because we are just so like, cut it out, cut it out, cut it out, cut it out. Don't take this. Put this out of my house. Get this out of here. All we are doing is on high alert all the time. I was totally there. Like i firsthand saw it and see it so much with my clients who come from that. They are,

Speaker: So ready to fight the world for their family and the toxins that come into their home, but they can't for the life of them get themselves to, you know, buy the conventional chicken when organic is $40 for a single chicken at the, at the store. I'm like, tell me how this is better.

Speaker: You're starving, but don't, heaven him forbid you have some fragrance like you're, but you're starving. It's crazy to me to see the, almost the curtain or the scales being taken off of my client's eyes when I'm like, Hey, it's actually worse for you to skip a meal than it is for you to eat Chick-fil-A one time.

Speaker: it is It is worse for your liver to go all day running errands with all of your children and you're going to feed your kids this because they need to eat, but you're just going to skip and wait until you can get home and cook the perfect meal.

Speaker: That's worse. It is absolutely worse. Eat the dang Chick-fil-A. Like, yeah, everybody knows that Chick-fil-A is not the best food. ingredients, right? I don't think any of us are disillusioned and would say that a Chick-fil-A chicken sandwich is better than a steak. It's not right. It's, it's not better nutritionally.

Speaker: However, and this is something that I think a lot of back to functional medicine doctors, a lot of the miss is blood sugar regulation. Like I have seen person after person after person after person who maybe some of the other foundations are addressed, like eating healthier, choosing better ingredients, drinking more water, all of that, but they are still not eating often enough and they're not eating enough. Right. They'll go long periods and their blood sugar is just all over the place. And that's a really simple fix. You don't have to buy any crazy supplements. You don't have to do anything super crazy. I mean, you can like there are herbs and supplements that can help improve insulin sensitivity and blood sugar regulation and blah, blah, blah. But they're already taking all those. Don't worry. They took all those and look, it didn't work. Yeah. don't eat anything. How is it going to work? Yeah. If you don't like like give your body consistent feedback that it's going to be fed every couple of hours, then it's just, it's going to store fat. It's going to store or release ample amounts of insulin. It's going to become resistant to insulin. Like it's, it's going to operate out of fear the same way your brain is operating out of fear. Like your body is smart.

Speaker: So, okay, fun HTMA fact with that. If you, so I can see, so this calcium to magnesium ratio is your blood sugar ratio on an HTMA. And I can see if that's like, it's it's a little bit, again, this is why you need someone who knows what they're doing when they read it.

Speaker: If that ratio is low, that actually means you're prone to high blood sugars. So if that's really low, right? Everyone's first thing is like, so that means your calcium rate level to your magnesium level, calcium is very low in relation to magnesium. Okay, so not overall maybe, but in relation, it's really low. um People, when I first say that, people are like, oh I have high blood sugars, like, hu bu but but but bu buth but I do this and I do that. Like, how would I have high blood sugars?

Speaker: And I'm like like, they're like, I work out, I'm not overweight. They're like fit, like these women are athletes. Like, how would I have high blood sugar and be pre-diabetic? Calcium is needed to create insulin. Magnesium is needed to make it and then actually get it used as well.

Speaker: Okay, side point to my side point. People want to toss like a ton of functional doctors want to give people chromium for their insulin sensitivity because chromium helps insulin attach to the cell walls.

Speaker: But chromium in high doses will lower calcium, which is making the insulin. So we're working backwards anyways, because people are take chromium. I'm like, well, stop. You don't need it. Look at your thing.

Speaker: But I can see people being pre-diabetic. They are literally pre-diabetic strictly from their sodium to potassium ratio, which is their stress, which is literally pre-diabetic. because they are so hypervigilant.

Speaker: They are pushing themselves into pre-diabetes, not because of what they're eating, how they're eating, when they're eating, how much they're moving, how they're sleeping, literally because they will not chill out because they're so scared of anything and everything. They're not going to deal with their emotions. They're not going to deal with their trauma. They're not going they're pushing pushing, pushing, pushing, pushing when they need their body's telling them stop. People have come out of pre-diabetic levels from literally just chilling out And like being able to handle their mental state.

Speaker: Like nothing. We didn't change nothing with the food. And I don't think people, the the like more and more tests I do, the more and the more clients I work with, I'm like 90.

Speaker: ninety i don't know. 90, I don't want to say 99, but pre-close, 95% of this is your mental state. If you believe you're not going to do it, you're not going to get better. You can't do, you can't do all the things you want to do. You can't, you can't go to bed because x Y, Z. You can't see the sun because X, Y, Z. You can't because this, because you have kids, whatever.

Speaker: Then you won't, you will not. And I think sometimes people think if I pay money, it'll like They'll fix me because I paid money. And then like they almost washed their hands of it. Like just tell me what to do and I'll do it.

Speaker: And I always tell the women who find me probably the women who find you too. I'm like you did not get here because you are lazy. You did not get here because you are not diligent, you got here because you're too diligent. i I'm not going to hand you a checklist to check off. You'll check it.

Speaker: You'll do it. That's why we're in this problem. Like, this is not a checklist issue. This is not a functional issue of like, if you just do all the right things, you'll get better. I have people do all the right things. But if their mind is not connected with their body and they're not addressing like the emotional things that come up that like I can see on an HTMA that I'm like, you better deal with this. Yeah.

Speaker: There's something going on. it It doesn't move. It will not move. They could consume 10,000 milligrams of potassium a day. It will not move. I just had this conversation with someone this morning. i literally said to her, we we got into the neuroscience of things, which is essentially...

Speaker: when you think something, your brain will automatically be looking for evidence to prove that thought right. So when you believe, when you have a belief that is, I cannot do this, or that is too hard for me, or that is not possible, your brain will automatically be looking for evidence to prove that's right. It's the same in relationships with people. If I believe that my husband is...

Speaker: lazy, doesn't do enough, is not as helpful around the house as he could be, whatever. I'm constantly going to be looking for evidence to prove that my thoughts are correct. And I think this is where people get really screwed up. It might not be that your husband is lazy and blah, blah, blah, whatever. It might just be that you're kind of psycho. No, I wouldn't say that. Yeah. But it might be that your brain is so out of control that what began is probably an innocent thought, right? From a place of exhaustion, from a place of overwhelm, you had this thought and then your brain immediately went, yep, and here's why. Boom, boom, boom. It's the same with our habits. Oh, I can't, I cannot eat enough because X, Y, Z. And it's like, okay, but what can you do? And I've had this conversation with so many different clients. You've spent so much time telling me all the things you can't do. You can't eat these things because of these reactions you'll have. Okay, that's not a big deal. What can you eat?

Speaker: Let's start with that because something is better than nothing. Obviously, you can eat something or else you would be dead. So there's something that we can work with. It doesn't – and people always get confused because, you know, I talk about eating dairy and gluten and, like, all of these different things that can be totally normal parts of a regular diet. But then people will message me and they're like – am I able to work with you if I can't eat these things? And it's like, yeah. like oh No, you're not allowed. you can't have gluten. Get out of here. Yeah. The only people that I probably won't work with are vegans just because they make me mad. I'm like, maybe there, I'm sure there's a way to do. i actually, okay I kind of, i've I haven't worked with the current vegan, but I've worked with past vegans and it's very exciting because I can show them

Speaker: on their, I'm like, that's from this. This is what happened. It's very evident. It's so clear. That's going to be so fun. I would love, would love to be able to do that. Cause I, I've worked with past vegans and I'm able to say like, yeah, of course you had anxiety. You know, you were starving. Of course you had no energy. You weren't getting any B vitamins. Like, of course. I, I, I just, I don't even know. I don't want to argue because that's not like my vibe in life. anymore. i'm That's not good for my my life and my nervous system. But like, where are you getting zinc? And they're going to say, plants have more zinc. Pumpkin seeds have more zinc than blah, bla blah, blah, blah. blah

Speaker: It's literally, you you can absorb like 30% of it because of the phytic acid. Not even. It's like 20%. I'm like, do you know many pumpkin seeds you'd have? ha Pumpkin seeds are also like one of the most calorically dense foods on the planet by weight, like you would be eating, you'd be a gigantic human being if you got enough zinc from pumpkin seeds. i'm like, i I just, I want to know, explain this to me because every plant-based food that has zinc has so much phytic acid that it's all all the absorption besides like 20% is blocked out.

Speaker: So like, Moot point. Not true. Even just in that little tangent, it just shows to me that you do actually practice what you preach. Because and for the people listening to this podcast, Ashley and I have known each other for a long time now. I think five, six years it's been that we've, since we met and then we instantly became pals and have just like chatted about all of these things most every day for half a decade. Right. But

Speaker: It's interesting because as your friend seeing that transition from you were very aggressive and like argumentative and, you know, debate driven early on. And I think that that's something that a lot of people don't realize is that might be like a mineral thing. Oh, this would, this will be fun. Okay. So different personality traits. Okay. This is going so much fun. That people say, this is just my personality. This is just who I am. Things like argumentation or just Debbie Downers or people who are type A, um all of these different things that people say, this is just my personality. This is just who I am.

Speaker: Tell us the the science, the mineral side behind it, because this will be this will be fun for for the listeners. It is so, it is really like, it's, it's so cool. Like, obviously i don't run a test before I talk to someone. Like I am going to talk to them first and I'm going to see obviously all their paperwork and like what they want and all that. But even if I didn't, even if I knew nothing about them,

Speaker: Your minerals are going to show so much about you without even telling me. Like, I'm going to be able to see, well, not, this is another reason, and like, whoever's doing your HTMA, they should learn this. This should be something they know about this. It is never read as, like, this is high, you have too much. This is low, you need more.

Speaker: Not at all. So if someone is... presenting it to you because I've had plenty of people come to me with a past age to me and they're like I never knew that I never was taught that I never i never was taught what foods I should be eating like joke okay so people should be knowing this if you're very type a you're very go go go you need to be in charge like I've seen this and I've been meaning need to do a reel on this where it's like I'm very good with the flow I just need to like know when the flow starts where the flow is who's in charge of the flow and when the flow ends like That person, eldest daughter, right? A lot of you are all eldest daughters. I'm an eldest daughter. I can say that.

Speaker: ah People-pleasing, perfectionist, like, I would say that's like 90% in the crunchy community. That is your adrenal ratio. That is your sodium to magnesium ratio. When you do not have, so those actually are interesting because they can be displayed on when it whether it's to running too over output or too slow.

Speaker: You can display both of them sometimes. um But when they're high, that's like, Dead on. You're going to be like, go, go, go. You're going to be a very black or white. Like, you don't... you know I think everybody knows that person where they're like, how do you not understand there's gray area? Like, they're just like, it's yes or no. Like, they're almost like apathetic.

Speaker: They have no empathy towards someone's situation because they're like, what do you mean? Like, that you do this or you do this. It's not that complicated. And it's like, what are you talking about? It is a literally... I'm not going to say in their blood because it's not in their blood. It's in their tissue. Like they have no other option but to see life that way.

Speaker: Their adrenals are through the roof. Their thyroid is through the roof. And their calcium to phosphorus, which is determining your nervous system, if you are in fight or flight or if you are in parasympathetic, there is no perfect one. There's not something we're striving for. We just want balance in both.

Speaker: But that person usually has a very, very in fight or flight. And they have, i mean, oh, it could get so bad if they have their sodium to potassium is real low. They're also going to be very apathetic, very numb, very resentful, hostile, like all these things. And then you pair those high adrenals, you're going to have someone you don't want to be around with.

Speaker: You are not going to want to be, that person isn't going to be, you're to walk on eggshells with that person. Those are the people that are low carb. Like i they are low carb and they say, Oh, this healed me. And it's like, Oh, I don't think it did. and You're not very nice.

Speaker: For real. And you know what's so sad, though? like that i i it's like And that's why I'm like, I wish people could understand this. Like we said, like some people need to see it on paper to be like, holy cow, this is this is crazy.

Speaker: Because the number one thing I see with moms is a low sodium to potassium ratio. And sodium is the first mineral to go under stress. First thing that is being... Because it's used by your adrenals. And your adrenals are trying to combat the stress. They're doing their job.

Speaker: It's just we are... The input to output cannot match. Like we are moms have this low sodium to potassium ratio because their adrenals are putting out this sodium. They're doing what they should. First of all, most moms are like feared in during pregnancy of sodium. So like they're not eating enough anyways. And then postpartum, same thing. They don't have enough. Their adrenals are trying their best. They literally can't keep up. Like whenever I see someone's sodium to potassium or or excuse me, yes, sodium to magnesium, their adrenals.

Speaker: I'm like, we could for sure like add supplements into like support, let you feel better in the meantime. But there is nothing fixing this ratio, but your lifestyle changing. That will not move.

Speaker: And honestly, I have been very, don't know, not change my tune because my tune wasn't like that different on this before. But like me, for example, my adrenals are always really low. I have five kids, like nine and under. I have two sets of twins. I have three-year-old twin boys. i could just say that, just that alone.

Speaker: Like, they're insane. My adrenal ratio is probably going to be low for a while. It is what it is, right? Like, that's okay. So we support it. I do what I know I should do.

Speaker: My sleep, my light, getting enough food. I have so much salt. if you're If you're listening to this and you're like, how do I know if that's low? Are you the person who's like salting your popcorn, salting your ham?

Speaker: That's you you. You need the salt. Stop ignoring that. If you want the salt, you should have the salt. Again, for those listening, I texted Ashley a couple weeks ago because I had just been feeling super crappy. Which, you know, looking back made sense. We were under a lot of stress. We had a lot going on. But I texted Ashley and was like, oh, I'm the idiot.

Speaker: i am the idiot it because i just could not figure out why I'm so exhausted. why am i Why am I feeling so crappy? And that morning before I had this revelation, i had extra salted my breakfast. And for the first time in like two, three weeks, I finally felt amazing again. And then it was like, oh my God, I'm the idiot. idiot. I haven't been getting enough salt. And then sure enough, I started measuring what I'm putting in my water. I got, I'm, I've been doing like a fourth of a teaspoon to half a teaspoon per cup. Like, and it's, I can't even taste it, honestly. And my husband and kids, my son drank out of my cup he's like, oh my, know but but I can't taste it. And I feel awesome. And was like, oh, I'm the idiot. I know, i know these things. I know, what I need to do, you know, intellectually. and you and I talk about this all the time, right?

Speaker: We do this for a living. We, we eat, sleep, and breathe this. And if we can miss it sometimes, anyone can. so unless you're tracking, unless you have the actual data, you have no idea. i just went through this with a client this morning. She's like, well, I put plenty of salt in my water. I'm like, okay,

Speaker: yeah I think you need to measure this week. that's Let's try that and see how much it's... little sprinkle is nothing. It's not. No. That you think that is not a sodium need. that is getting you That is getting you trace minerals that are additional to the sodium and the salt. That's lovely.

Speaker: But there' there's no sodium benefit from this little like ding, ding, in your water. Absolutely not. I think it really is because women are... scared of sodium, we're told not to have any salt when we're pregnant. I went through this in my second pregnancy, my my middle child's pregnancy. Had a little bit of a aboutut of high blood pressure. And it was funny to see the differences in practitioners because I went to my midwife and she was like, yeah, you know, this means just cut your salt out and drink a gallon of water a day and you should

Speaker: be fine. And I knew better at this point that I was like, yeah, that's kind of dumb. I'm not going to do that. I walked across the street. The, my chiropractor was in the same parking lot, the same strip center as my midwife. I walked to my chiropractor and I tell her kind of what I'm have going on. And she's like, oh yeah, increase your salt, get a lot more salt, make sure you're getting more minerals. And I was like, this is why i hire you. This is why I pay you the extra money because I know that to be true. And sure enough, that, that one midwife, I loved her so much, but I didn't do anything. She told me nutritionally because everything she told me was not right. Right. Like my ferritin was low, had some low iron and she's like, let's just get you on an iron supplement.

Speaker: Let's just, you know, start taking an iron and you'll be fine. And i was like, a knot uh and i think I did you know extra cod liver oil get that extra retinol you know move move my iron around what's like is it it's crazy to me that I've never I mean i was in like a ridiculous amount of doctor's appointments with twins twice like you're there you just live there it's fine I'm like I've already done this can I get a pass like actually did I didn't go for like a month and a half and i was like oh fine I'll come back um

Speaker: But never, like, iron every third trimester for every woman, I feel like, is low in iron. But when you're pregnant, you absorb iron nine times better than a non-pregnant woman. And I'm like, no one's like, hmm, what's that all about? ah Like, no one acknowledges that? They're just like, pump more in. Just pump more in there.

Speaker: I guess if you were, like, not eating meat, then yes. But, like, if you're eating meat and you have been eating meat, There's something else happening here. Even eggs and dairy. Like you're ton of iron from eggs and dairy.

Speaker: So if you're a vegetarian and you're eating cheese and and eggs at least, you're getting a ton of iron. But nobody talks about like the iron recycling system and the relationship between iron, copper, and retinol. And how wouldn't you know? Our bodies are actually super smart. They're doing what they should. Yeah. Like every symptom...

Speaker: makes sense. I've spent, I mean, I've only ever had midwives with my kids. I've never had twins. So, you know, if I ever have twins, maybe the experience will be different. Who knows? But every midwife that I've worked with and even like friends, family members, clients, I feel like the information that they get for nutrition during pregnancy is just nothing. I received nothing.

Speaker: It's horrible. i had one client who she had like her A1C was a little bit high. And so the midwife was like, you need you need no carbs, cut carbs. And I was like, did she explain to you what your A1C is? And she was like, no. Okay, well, let's start there. Your A1C is just an average of your blood sugar levels over the last three months.

Speaker: It makes sense that your A1C would be elevated because you haven't been sleeping. Your toddler has been teething and nursing all night long. It's the job of cortisol to dump sugar into your bloodstream to try and keep you alive during this what it perceives as danger situation all Of course, your A1C is going to be high. I don't think the issue is the carbs. In fact, she was eating not enough carbs, but like very low for some of the symptoms that she was having. And was like, let's let's work on getting you sleeping first. Let's get you... sleeping through the night. Let's set it up, you know, set you up for a success. I think she ended up leaving their son with her husband and she went and slept two full nights at her parents' house. And then they just, you know, started this pattern of he started sleeping through the night.

Speaker: And I said, you're not a bad mom for leaving your kid for two nights because you haven't slept in three weeks. No sleep for two nights, get a full night of sleep. You will feel like a new human being. He will be fine. And sure enough, he didn't scream all night long. He fell asleep with his daddy.

Speaker: Totally fine. This is probably something you could speak to, too. I wonder if this is a common, um, thing that shows up on HTMAs, but this mentality that nobody can do the job that I am doing.

Speaker: So mothers feel like, oh, my spouse, they can't do this job. you They can't sleep with the baby. They can't do whatever or nobody can do this as good as I can. So I'm not going to ask for help.

Speaker: Yeah, I feel like, um I mean, you could just for sure lump that in with like type a but I think most of it is in a roundabout way, like back to that low sodium potassium ratio. Like if those people are, well, one, if that ratio is below, it's supposed to be like 2.5, 2.6, 2.4 is fine. and Actually, if it's above two, I'm like, we're actually doing okay.

Speaker: um I see that ratio at 0.25, 0.3, like really low. If I see it in the one, so 1.9 or below, i'm like trauma. You have hidden trauma. There is trauma somewhere in your body. And this is not like, I'm not saying like we're going to like, it's, there's something your brain and body have not agreed on to let go of. Like maybe you think you're over it.

Speaker: Your body's not over it. So if I always tell people like when I send them their results video and I say that and I'm like, okay, when I say trauma and you go, oh, probably this. That's probably where we should start.

Speaker: But like, you don't have to have this like event of trauma. I always tell people like, maybe you have this very traumatic event that you're like, oh yeah, I do have trauma. Like I know that. But if you don't, that's okay.

Speaker: Trauma can be a really hard pregnancy. Trauma can be a really hard birth. Even if nothing was medically an emergency, birth is a lot.

Speaker: You could have not had your wants met. Like, you could have been not heard during birth. You could have been not heard from your family growing up. You could have been labeled as a problem child. You could have just been from a lot of kids and, like,

Speaker: just been into the shuffle and not being taken care of. Like that's all trauma. Something you don't remember, you have no recollection of can be traumatizing to you. So when people, and like people are very often quick, people in that state are very often quick to be like, i don't have trauma.

Speaker: I'm fine. Like, no, you're not. So just like, and it's not like something we address immediately. And I always tell people like, I'm not therapist. I'm not a counselor.

Speaker: I'm not going to you don't have to share this with me, but If you you want to, you can, but like, I'm not going to work through with that with you. But like, I usually offer a lot of modalities on like, we talk about tapping, we talk about journaling, we talk about EMDR. You don't have to have like this super traumatic event to benefit from EMDR. We talk about craniosacral therapy, which is your fascia and release, releasing a fascia and your fascia holds a lot of trauma. So that person who's like there, if you really break it down, like why are that all the way back where I feel like we are way off topic, but that person who's like, nobody can do it. Like I can do it. i can't leave my kid. I can't do this. I can't do that.

Speaker: If you break it all the way down, they just want control. It's control. So like, have they not had control? That's often a lot of times why people are so hard pressed on like, I don't allow toxins in my house. I don't allow chemicals in my house. I don't, it's control. They're just grasping to control something because they hadn't had control over maybe a lot of things, maybe relationships, maybe emotions, maybe relationships. how they were treated, like it all lumps back to how your brain is processing something or not processing something. Like everything we do or don't do because our brain is telling us to, obviously that makes sound so obvious when you say it, but like, we're not making decisions only for the reasons we think we are. Like there's so much more to it than that. But that low sodium potassium like is going to push someone. Actually, that can actually even have implications of anorexic tendencies. So people who don't want to eat and feel fine with that, like they're not... like They can...

Speaker: ken That sounds so terrible. but Like they know they're hungry and they're hungry, but they push through it. These people want this control and this, they can do anything. Like these people with this low sodium potassium ratio can accomplish anything and survive anything, but that's why it's so tanked out. And that's how your body showing how your body can burn glucose. It's showing how your body can create energy. So the first thing we have to address is that ratio, because if we can't move that,

Speaker: You can't balance your blood sugars. You can't change your adrenals. You can't mess with your hormones. You can't do any of these things. You can't detox your gut. You can't just detox parasites. You can't, if you cannot create energy, all those things require energy.

Speaker: So if you can't create energy, none of that is going to matter. And like, I've, I think we talked about this before, like you can consume ample sodium, potassium,

Speaker: It will never move, that ratio. It's so telling. I love HTMA because people can like try to BS me all they want. And I'm like, well, that's fine. You can tell me that, but like your body is telling otherwise. If you don't address the emotional portion, it will burn through everything you give it so quickly.

Speaker: I think there was one time you did, it was one of the tests you did for me. And you were like... I think that the only reason why your adrenals are holding on is because you actually do eat so much. But like, you got to figure out the emotional stuff, because this is never going to, you know, come back together. Because I didn't feel bad. i didn't. I think when I got that test done, I wasn't feeling bad. I just felt a little off. And not as great as I wanted to. And like I've said before, i have the philosophy, I'm going to do everything I can foundationally before i run tests, because I know that tests are going to be more accurate when I'm laying the foundations. And I will actually be able to do those more targeted supports. Like every time I've done a test with you,

Speaker: It really has been just a few simple tweaks and then things shift pretty pretty quickly, right? But i just remember you were like, body is a little extra stress, which i was like, well, of course. I mean, I moved four times last year and I was pregnant and you're preaching to the choir. I know this, but i feel like I am a little bit...

Speaker: I'm aware of why my body is going to do things. i feel like a lot of people don't want to be aware, right? They don't want to speak the reality of, oh yeah, this makes sense why my body's behaving this way because surely my lifestyle can't impact it. And i feel like that's so disempowering to people because it it means that you're just the victim of your life. You are sitting in the victim seat and everything is happening to you when the reality is like me, for example, I'll use me because I'm me.

Speaker: When you told me that, it was like, yeah, that makes sense. I made these choices this year. We chose to move multiple times. We chose to do these things. We chose to have another baby. We chose to, you know, whatever. Of course my body is more stressed. I'm not going to beat myself up over it. I'm going to make some changes. I'm going to get on some some supplements and I'm going to adjust my my macros and my my nutrients, whatever.

Speaker: And it's not a big deal because like you said, We're never going to be fully healed on this earth, right? That's our body's constantly giving feedback. And we're just, we have a choice of what we can do with the information that we're given. And it's the, it's the victim sitting that,

Speaker: keeps people from ever progressing. i have three clients right now. They have had like life changing 180. Their life is 100% different strictly from the emotional portion, the mental portion and their belief system. Like one is she went through full, like she could eat like minimal foods, like nothing. She was truly sleeping two hours a night, like truly. Like when people say like, no, I slept like two hours. Like no, it's like she actually was. And like that alone would make someone insane. Right.

Speaker: She sleeps through the night. She can eat everything, but like I think like one food, which whatever. um She started a business. She quit her toxic job. She ended like not the same human being that she was when she started. Not the same human being, not they not living the same life. like like changed She changed she like sent me this awesome, like such appreciative, lovely email of like, you changed my life, blah, blah, blah. And I was like, no, no, no.

Speaker: You changed your life. I didn't change your life. You changed your life. I can't do any of this stuff. You did it. So, but she started to believe she could do it.

Speaker: If she, when she was like, I mean, there were many, many of messages and voice memos that were so negative, so down. And I called her out on it. And I'm like, do you understand how you talk to yourself? I'm like, look at, like, listen, go listen to what you just said. Does that sound like someone who's going to like, you can't hate your body into healing. You'll never hate your body into doing what it wants to do ever. Because the second you hate your body, the second you hate your symptom, the second you hate your life,

Speaker: Why would your body feel safe enough to try to like respond to the changes you're making? It's in fight or flight. It's fearful. It's angry. Like there's no way you can heal in that. But on paper, she's hardly different than when we started on her HTMA.

Speaker: But her life is literally the exact opposite of what it was. Like she's living life. Like she was not living life. I have two other clients, same thing. Like the emotional portion, when they connected, that they were taking every symptom and treating it as like a threat. Yeah. treating it as something that needed to be fixed or something they didn't do good enough. So like they couldn't, they had to optimize and like biohack and optimize every piece of their life. I'm like, stop doing that.

Speaker: Just let it be, let it be. One of the best brain hacks that we have is like, if you want to, you don't want your symptom or your problem to be so big, say it out loud. Like,

Speaker: Say your symptom out loud. Say it out loud. Not like the whole situation. Not like I'm anxious because blah, blah, bla blah blah blah blah, blah. No, no, no. Just be like, okay, racing heart, sweaty palms, fidgety feet, racing thoughts.

Speaker: Name them to tame them. If you can say it out loud, it will be so much smaller because when it's in your brain, it's just bouncing, bouncing, bouncing, bouncing. Get it out. And your brain's like, oh, okay. Yeah, we have racing thoughts right now. Oh,

Speaker: We have a, we our chest is heavy. Oh, okay. Do it again and again and again. Name it to tame it. And we're not naming it to shame it. You're not going to like fall into the cycle of like, we're going to shame ourselves for feeling this way.

Speaker: Name it, acknowledge it, move on. Not name it and try to fix it. Not name it and try to push it away. Just acknowledge it and move on. And like, these are the biggest factors people have for, I i just told client this today, the foundation for lack of better word, that everybody who has had life changing changes from this program is that they are connecting that their mental shift has to happen before their physical shift is going to hold. Right. So like we can do all this stuff, we can get in your gut and we can get rid of parasites and we can get all these things, which is why, So many people go to functional medicine. They do all that. They do it.

Speaker: Like, yeah, that that's probably a fine protocol to get rid of parasites, whatever. They come back. They come back. They have new problems. They have more problems. They're never connecting the mind aspect to the body aspect. And we are one being. They're not separate. Yeah, we maybe need to use like stuff to get rid of stuff or balance things out. But like what keeps it good is the mental piece.

Speaker: And that HTMA is just a look in what's happening in your mental piece. We're not diagnosing anything. It's not like you're low in this, take this. That's not what the test is for. It's to show like where your body's been expending energy and where it doesn't have energy to expend and where we need to like adjust our life based on that.

Speaker: I have two really cool anecdotes that I have come into contact recently. One was with a dear friend who struggled to get pregnant for years. Just they could not get pregnant and they were trying all of the things and the doctors just kept telling her, oh, it's stress, it's stress. And to her, she's like, oh, stress means I ain't going on vacation.

Speaker: Her and her husband are like corporate workers. They work really intense jobs. They were up at 4.30 every morning, going to the gym, hitting it hard, working full time. And then she's like, oh, i need I'm stressed. i need to go on vacations. So they traveled the world while they don't have kids. And like and i recently went and met their newborn baby, actually. And we were talking about it. And she's like...

Speaker: It finally clicked to me that it was stress, but I didn't have stress figured out appropriately in my brain, for lack of a better term. I thought that stress just meant I needed a vacation. No, I needed a complete shift of how I was living, how I was thinking, how I was responding to everything. Everything was an emergency. Everything was just all or nothing, right? I had talked to her a couple of years ago when I like first started my practice. i was doing $40 training.

Speaker: 20-minute consult calls with people, like something something really basic. She was one of my very first people I chatted with, and I gave her some simple things that she could be doing because I recognized the stress in them. One of the things I recommended was like the raw carrot salad. you know She had some signs of gut issues and estrogen and blah, blah, blah. I'm like, this could be a really simple thing to add into your stuff ah alongside these other things. And we we laughed about this this a couple of months ago when I was holding her newborn. She was like...

Speaker: When you gave me that instruction, I just thought, oh, raw carrot salads. Okay, I'm going to eat six raw carrots a day because that's going to heal me. And she just was like full into it. And she recognized, okay, that's... That's not box that right there is what's going to keep you stuck. And she changed things. She added things in like acupuncture to really help her body relax and change the way that she thought about just everyday things. And they got pregnant and they had a beautiful baby, beautiful home birth. She delivered breech. in her bedroom. And yeah just so awesome. So that was one anecdote. And then another anecdote was actually from my husband this past week. He was on a job site and he met this Russian man who just immigrated over from Russia. And he was just chatting with this guy, this this Russian carpenter. he

Speaker: The guy was like, yeah, we moved over to America because we couldn't get pregnant. And my husband was like, oh, tell me more. And the guy was like, in Russia, you're just, you're always stressed and you don't realize how stressed you are, but you're always worried that someone's going to screw you over. You're always looking over your shoulder because of just the the environment of the country, you're just always on edge. And we didn't know that moving to America would help us get pregnant. We just knew we didn't want to be in Russia anymore. As soon as they moved to the United States, they got pregnant after years and years of trying.

Speaker: Isn't that crazy? But just stories like that, it's like, sometimes it takes a dramatic shift in our lifestyle, right? I don't think, I don't know anything else about this guy and his wife's history. I don't know anything else about their story, but just that simple, like it, their bodies were so stressed just from the environment around them that they could not conceive a baby. Their bodies were like, yep, this is not a good time, but just connected. They connected. Cause I mean, i think they probably could have moved a lot of places and got pregnant. Like They connected like, whoa, we feel this way. This is not a good way to feel in our bodies. And like mothers are feeling that way every single day. If you're, because I just talked to my clients about this too.

Speaker: There was a time in your life where you had to be that way. When you have a newborn, you have to be that way. You are living in two or three hour, three at max, hour windows. So you feed baby, you change baby, baby sleeping. You're like, okay, optimize.

Speaker: Because you have to. Like, you have no choice, right? Like, I speak for myself. I really had no choice. There was two of them. I'm like, okay, this is make or break right now. We need to do, this has to get done. So you're optimizing every second of your day.

Speaker: And then, or you're sleeping, you have, I had two babies sleeping on me. I can't get up and pee. I can't get up and eat. You you just ignore your bodily like cues. You ignore what your body is telling you because you had to, to survive, right? It is what it is. But then our bodies even, and then if you don't have babies, we are like in this like live and grind world of like,

Speaker: Doesn't matter if you're tired, you go to the gym. Doesn't matter if you do this, like boom boom, boom, boom, boom. You ignore, ignore, ignore, ignore. Okay. Then you come out of that, maybe mentally, kind of, you realize like, oh, that wasn't good.

Speaker: Do you actually come out of it though? Because moms are still walking around with three, four, five-year-olds, not babies. They can absolutely go pee whenever they want and they're holding their pee until they're done with their chores. And they're not eating lunch till they put their groceries away. And they're not eating breakfast till they get their kids breakfast and clean that up and get all this. And then they sit down and eat breakfast.

Speaker: stop optimizing every second of your day. The stress that you're putting on you and the timeline that you're creating that does not need to exist is putting you in fight or flight. Like women are working so hard to work on their nervous system and their vagus nerve. And like, I am going to like claw my eyes out if I see another reel or like guide to like heal your nervous system in two weeks. Like that's first of all, not a thing. That's not a thing. Like you're not broken.

Speaker: You want to be in fight or flight. Like fight or flight keeps you alive. That's there for a reason. We're designed for that. Like it's a good thing. You need to complete the cycle. Like get in, get out, get in, get out. Women are in,

Speaker: And then they're in and then they're in and then they're high. Then they're taking everything personal. Then they think all their friends hate them. Then they think they're creating drama for no reason. And they're mad at their husband for no reason. And their kids are, have every diagnosis and their kids are harder than everyone else's kids. And like,

Speaker: Whoa, get out, get out of fight or flight. Stop putting more problems on yourself. Start noticing what your body, like one of the most basic things I do with my clients that is so simple. And they're always like, oh, like, cause they do way harder things than this. I'm like, I'm not telling you to do hard things. I know you know how to do hard things. We're going to do easy things. You're not going to like it. but But like start noticing your body. Notice where you're sitting right now.

Speaker: How do you, are your cold? Like, are your hands cold? Are they sweaty? How do your fingers feel? Are they dry? Are they like, like feel your body right now? Are you sitting on something soft? Is it comfortable? Is it scratchy? Can you like literally sleep? Because that's where I'm at right now. Yeah. Put your brain back into your body.

Speaker: We're so out of touch with our brain and our body connection that there's no way we could heal until they're connected. Like there's no way you can treat your symptoms until your brain doesn't view them as a threat anymore. You did an awesome reel on this a couple of months ago and I use it all the time. I stole it from you for my clients because you literally said, stop rewarding yourself with basic human needs. And that simple line so simple, so good, because it's it's true. Stop rewarding yourself with going to the bathroom, right? Saying, oh once I unload the dishes and wipe out the counters and sweep the floor, then I'm going to go pee. No, just go pee, right? When I put the kids to bed and fold all the laundry and do all this. Then I'll eat a real dinner. No, sit your butt down, eat a real dinner. Something that I've also seen you do that I have started practicing is if I'm hungry after going grocery shopping, um my groceries will sit on the counter until I've eaten and then I will put them away. And so just those simple things, we forget, yeah, how not revolutionary, but how impactful they can be. And it's literally just basic human needs.

Speaker: Go to the bathroom, get outside, drink water, eat a meal when you're hungry. The reason why you don't have hunger cues anymore is because you ignored your hunger cues for so freaking long. That your body was like, oh, well, she's not going to feed us anyway. So we're just not going to cure that we're hungry. Not only it not going to be like, oh, we're not hungry. So we're not going to say anything. It's thinking, oh, ah I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I said something. Like, I'm not important. Your nervous system is trying to tell you things all the time. If you constantly tell it to shut up.

Speaker: What do you think is going to happen? Like, it's, it's like, it's embarrassed. It's like, I'm so sorry I asked for something that was, you're right. I don't need anything. It's not going to do it again. Gosh, you become like the the middle school girl that you do not want to be right. Like, Oh, I'm so sorry for existing. Well, you can exist.

Speaker: Normal people need to pee. They need to go to the bathroom. They need to eat food. They need to sleep. Yeah, it's okay to have basic human needs. Even just moving your body. i feel like so many women have this this mind frick where they're like, oh, I can't exercise because i i feel guilty or I can't get away from my kids. And it's like, it's a we're not meant to be sitting down all day. you are meant to be walking. You are meant to be moving. Like, do you expect to lose weight if you're not moving? No, you you can't.

Speaker: A harsh reality. my clients have realized when they're like, well, why am I not losing weight? And i'm like, number one, it's not a weight loss program. Like we can understand what's going on. So then you can lose weight and maybe we'll work on that, but we can't do that till we get the other things in line.

Speaker: And number two, they're like, oh, I was walking 1500 steps a day. I'm like, Probably part of it. That'll do it. And then they're like, oh, and then no longer a victim. You are no longer a victim when you realize you are not an exception to thermodynamics or like basic physiology. You are not an exception. The sooner you like accept that and want to not be an exception, the faster you will get better.

Speaker: You are not special for life. a better word. Like you, you do have individual needs and we're going to look at that for sure, but you're not going to tell me that it doesn't apply to you because you're a human and we are all kind of the same unsigned. We all have the same basic physiology and I always go back basic biology, basic physiology. If you can understand that, then everything else is pretty simple. Everything else is icing on the cake. Until we've looked at basic physiology and met those basic physiological needs, you don't need to dive into all of the nuance yet. You don't need to freak out about every little thing. You need to eat.

Speaker: You need to drink. You need sunshine. You need sleep. You need human connection. And you need to not hate yourself. Until we get those down, don't worry about your seed oils and don't worry about your organic food and don't worry about your special biohacking lights and devices and shakers. Just don't. Just stop.

Speaker: Yeah, it's those are all toys and they're fun. Yeah, it's it's worse for your liver to not eat anything. It's worse for your digestion to be afraid of every little thing. It's worse for your lungs to be... Just on edge and anxious all the time, right? there There are things that you can do without ever having to spend crazy money. Literally just breathing. We hold our breath. People hold their breath just as their normal resting posture. And it's like, why don't you take some time throughout the day to just take a few deep breaths? I know that sounds so woo-woo, right? Just...

Speaker: yeah It's amazing what happens when your brain isn't getting enough oxygen. That's a nutrient. You need oxygen. You actually need oxygen to produce ATP. you know, I talk about carbs and ATP energy production all the time, but metabolism is taking glucose and oxygen and turning it into adenotriphosphate, right? But you can't, if you're not breathing, if you're if you're not getting enough oxygen, you can eat all the carbs you want. But if you're like, yeah, yeah.

Speaker: yeah not not actually slowing down to breathe. And it just, it sounds so silly to say like yeah, we should breathe. No, but actually like.

Speaker: If you're so so, if you're so like got such a stick up your butt that you're worried and judging what everyone else is doing and worried about every ingredient that that food was cooked in, that someone made you and what everybody else is thinking and what everybody else has and what you don't have, you're not breathing.

Speaker: Because you're too busy worried about You're literally get the stick out of your butt and start breathing and you're going to be able to feel a lot better lot sooner. Funny. Every time i I go to people's houses, if they're like newer friends of mine, they're always apologizing for like how they're making the food. They're like, I'm so sorry. I'm like, bro.

Speaker: It is not that deep. I could not care less. You're making casserole from a box. Awesome. I'm so excited to eat this. eat Regardless. Regardless. As long as there's food, i am happy. Those thoughts don't even cross my mind. I actually shocked one of my clients today. We were talking about something and I was just like, you'd be surprised. Most of my friends, i don't talk about health and nutrition with.

Speaker: I don't. i I just, we're just friends. Like they know that I like this stuff. They know that this is what I do for a living. It's just not in my head. I, it's so far removed. Maybe not five years ago. It it would have been. We could really go.

Speaker: but I just think the crunchy community has created a lot of toxic personalities and to their detriment. It's just so sad. Yeah. And I have a lot to say. i mean, I think that people who have spiraled down that literally have just outsourced their brains. Like they have outsourced. yeah I'm just going to, I'm going to do what the internet is telling me to do instead of taking a step back and asking, but what does my body need? I just posted a little bit of a sassy reel because so many people are like pro-metabolic did me dirty. Well, no pro-metabolic didn't do you dirty. You had no self-control.

Speaker: right just all get The three people who are talking about it and they're like, maybe because like, I mean, five years ago, there was like three people who talked about it until it blew up. And they're like 10 years in. They are 10 years in your day one. Like you can't, yeah, you can't do the same things they're doing. Like, of course not.

Speaker: And it's not like pro-metabolic is not. Bread and butter and full fat cheese and dairy and OJ and liver and everything. But when we first started, we were me, I guess I shouldn't say we, but like I'm pro-metabolic as a culture was just like ice cream, cream, butter and marshmallows, man. Like that's, that was it. And there was, but like you're right. There was no like,

Speaker: Most people were not understanding why they were doing it. it was It was fully outsourced into like the how and why. They just said, flood your body with minerals and you'll feel better. Well, flood your body with calories and you'll feel real good for three months until you don't.

Speaker: Yeah. And I feel like, I don't feel like I ever fell into the overindulgent side of it. Cause I, felt like I had an understanding, but I actually went to read like Ray Pete, right. When I started first being introduced, I went and read progesterone and orthomolecular medicine. I went and read female hormones in context. I went and read these things because I wanted to hear it from the source of where the philosophy came from. And that's when it started like, oh yeah, this isn't like a diet. It's just, these are, these are concepts to like conceptually we need carbs conceptually. We need fuel and your body is going to respond to different fuels in different ways. And so if you can understand basic biology, You can know what is going to fuel your body the best. And that's the simple stuff that nobody wants to listen because it's not a checklist, right? They want... You can't just do it and not change your life.

Speaker: And it goes back to minerals. We just want we want the black and white. but fred Black and white list. So i know that you've got to go and we could talk, you know, we've talked almost every day for five years about this. So I know that we could talk about this for hours and hours and hours. But before i let you go, can you tell my listeners where we can find you, how people can get in contact with you, how people can work with you so we can leave them with that? um I am mostly only on Instagram.
