Speaker: For the last two weeks, I have been sharing my most controversial opinions on my Instagram page. And something that I want to talk about today on the podcast. is something that I've been thinking about a lot since I started sharing my controversial opinions. And it's this idea of being easily...

Speaker: triggered. And I hate the word triggered because I feel like it's thrown around so much in this day and age. but For all intents and purposes, it's going to be the best word that I use for what I talk about today.

Speaker: So... When I started talking about... some more controversial opinions online. inevitably, they're going to be people that are upset, right? This is the nature of sharing opinions that maybe not everybody holds, which honestly, that's every freaking opinion, right? like Any opinion out there is that. It's an opinion, and there will always be people that don't agree with you.

Speaker: So i I have a hard time wrapping my head around people not just... sharing what they think. for fear of someone disagreeing with them. there are always going to be things that people disagree with us on.

Speaker: my husband and i don't even agree on all of the same things and we're married okay We have different opinions on things, but we still love and honor and respect each other. But this idea of being easily triggered, I think actually really ties into my platform and everything that i share online and my courses with my coaching clients because this is actually intricately tied to your minerals and your metabolism

Speaker: Here's what I mean. When you are living in a state of constant fight or flight, when you are undernourished, Your body. is constantly on edge and looking for the next thing to go wrong.

Speaker: This is because it's the purpose of adrenaline and cortisol to keep you aware, right? Let's think about this in context of our ancestors. When we were in immediate danger, in the past right our ancestors when they were in immediate danger this meant life or death So they had to be.

Speaker: on high alert because it was a life or death situation. And now in today's culture, we don't have as many life or death situations, right? There are going to be some sometimes, but...

Speaker: our nervous systems we have worked up to not be able to differentiate between what is just a minor inconvenience, what is just moderately uncomfortable. and what is actually a life -threatening situation.

Speaker: and Again, this is because when the body is not properly resourced when we are undernourished when our cells are not getting the materials that they need to function optimally.

Speaker: then of course we're going to be on edge. Let me walk you through this real quick before I circle back to this idea of being easily triggered. So when the body is not getting proper fuel, when you're not getting any resources, protein, carbs, and fats, particularly carbs, we'll focus in on carbs right now. When you are not getting enough of these resources,

Speaker: What happens is your body has a couple of steps, a couple of processes that it's going to go through to keep you alive. The first, in the absence of adequate carbohydrate intake, right? So when I talk about resources, when I talk about minerals.

Speaker: carbs are going to be one of your biggest sources of energy production because they are your cells preferred source of energy. It is the job of the thyroid hormone to take glucose, which comes from carbs,

Speaker: to take glucose and oxygen into the cell to produce ATP. When there is not adequate quick glucose available, your body has these backup systems. The first is it will go into what's called glycogenolysis.

Speaker: This is the lysing or the breakdown of stored glycogen, which is your stored form of glucose in the liver. So when the body isn't getting enough sugars, when it's not getting enough resources, it has this backup system that... There is sugar already stored in your body. It's there when there's not adequate fuel. Okay.

Speaker: This one process requires adrenaline to mobilize. glucose to keep you alive. so already right there we're in a stress response when there's not adequate fuel Adrenaline has to spike. in order to mobilize that stored form of glucose.

Speaker: to keep all of your cells and thus all of your systems running because you're so preferred source of energy the source that it can use the quickest and put to work is glucose when there's not adequate glucose available. then it's going to jump into the glycogenolysis to mobilize stored glucose to keep you alive. Now,

Speaker: Once your liver runs through that stored form of glucose, Then it will go to the next process. which is known as gluconeogenesis. This is the creation of glucose for a new source. This is where your body can start to break down fats and proteins.

Speaker: to produce energy to keep you alive. this process again requires adrenaline and cortisol stress hormones to keep your systems functioning.

Speaker: This process of gluconeogenesis not only induces a stress response, but also produces a ton of waste products that are stressful on the system, particularly the liver, perpetuating a cycle of chronic stress in the body. So whenever someone tells you that you don't need carbs or you need to cut calories or whatever, I want you to think of these two physiological processes that are there. to keep you alive

Speaker: in the absence of adequate fuel sources, namely namely carbs. You have to have adequate carb intake. if you want your body to function appropriately and this leads me to this idea of being easily triggered.

Speaker: People who are not getting adequate carbs, people who are not getting adequate resources and nutrients as a whole, their body is in this state of constant chronic stress cycle. whether or not they even realize it because your body requires these stress hormones to mobilize stored forms of fuel to keep you alive we don't run on thin air and so in the absence of adequate fuel

Speaker: Your body has these backup systems because it's amazing. God created the body to have backup systems in place in the absence of adequate fuel. but This, by nature, induces stress hormones, and those stress hormones, whether we are mentally aware of them or not,

Speaker: Keep us. on edge all the time and to a body that is on edge all the time peace feels dangerous. So oftentimes actually you'll see people that are easily triggered are also people that tend towards having really dramatic lives. Maybe they're people that are always drawn to drama or they're the kind of people that are always

Speaker: listening to true crime podcasts, or maybe they watch really intense movies and TV shows. These are all stimulating that sympathetic nervous system that they are so used to living in because to a body that is used to chronic stress,

Speaker: peace feels unsafe. So these people will seek out these stressful situations. to almost manufacture peace in their bodies because they don't understand what true peace feels like. So they will look for drama. They will look to be offended. They will look for something that's exhilarating, right? Those really intense, dramatic Whatever TV shows books novels you name it

Speaker: People who are in this. state of chronic stress will go seeking out more stressful scenarios because that feels safe to them so for someone like me when i start sharing my controversial opinions you know i know inevitably it's going to trigger some people but i also have so much grace in my heart because i know that the people that are easily offended the people that are easily triggered Or whatever. When someone else shares something that is.

Speaker: outside of their belief system. It's not because... They're bad people. It's not because I think that they're wrong or whatever. I think that people get easily offended truly because they are not properly resourced. They are not eating enough food. They're not getting enough sunshine. They're not moving their bodies enough.

Speaker: And this isn't just for the people that I interact with online, but people in my everyday life. I'm able to extend a lot more grace because I see... A lot of times people's reactions aren't personal.

Speaker: a lot of times it has to do with how well or how poorly, their body is currently being resourced. So I wanted to chat with you about this today for a couple of reasons. Number one, if you hear yourself in this story, meaning you hear yourself as someone who is maybe easily offended or easily triggered, or you hear an opposing opinion and you start to get this.

Speaker: almost burning flame inside of your body. I want you to remember that everything our body does Is it communicating? to us. So when you feel that desire or when you feel triggered by something or when you feel upset by maybe someone sharing something that differs from you,

Speaker: You or maybe you're just, it has nothing to do with people sharing different opinions. Maybe you're just living your life and people will say things off the cuff and it offends you or you're triggered or whatever.

Speaker: I want you to sit with that and realize. Hate. Maybe my body isn't getting what it needs. Maybe there's a different way to live. Maybe I don't have to be easily offended. Maybe I don't have to be triggered by these things. You know, we throw around the word triggered all the time and people say, oh, that triggers me. ah Whatever.

Speaker: Okay, maybe it does. Well, it's our job to notice and recognize. what is triggering us and do better. right Learn how to deal with it. We're adults. If you're listening to this podcast, you're a grown adult. You can choose to unlearn those things. And a lot of times for the people that I serve, the people that I work with, it's less to do with your willpower and your ability to just kind of...

Speaker: white knuckle through it and it has Everything to do with your body being properly. Holy. nourished because when you are getting true nourishment through your food, through sunshine, through movement, through sleep, hydration, all of those things, it becomes so much easier.

Speaker: to deal with those more mentally and emotionally. taxing situations because now your body has an actual foundation to stand on because internally you don't have that cycle of chronic stress happening in the background is almost a constant humming or constant noise inside your body that you're not fully aware of.

Speaker: but it makes you feel. on edge for lack of a better term. So I want you to recognize when you are in those situations. if this is you if you are someone that you get easily offended or you find yourself seeking out these scenarios that are more dramatic you like to be involved in gossip you like to watch really intense things or listen to really intense things whatever it is i want you to pause and think maybe my body's trying to tell me something.

Speaker: And generally, it can be that to a body that is chronically stressed Peace feels unsafe. And so you're going to seek out.

Speaker: Un -peace. I don't even think that's a word, but you're going to go seek out. these unpeaceful situations. Now, the other side of this. is if you hear in the story that maybe you're not someone that is easily offended

Speaker: and you don't get easily triggered and you don't seek out drama and all of that i want you to hear from this that it is your responsibility and your call to offer and extend grace to these people because really truly most of the time their body just isn't getting what it needs to have a foundation of peace and so we want to obviously always be praying for these people always be extending grace

Speaker: Always be extending love and kindness and joy and mercy and all of those things. And then maybe if you have the relationship and the situation. is right right you'll know if it is because you'll know the people that you interact with and do life with but if the situation is right and you have the relationship then maybe start talking about nourishment talking about eating enough food getting enough sunshine telling them how These simple things changed your life. This is why I never shut up about this stuff.

Speaker: literally the simple habits of eating enough food. getting sunshine, sleeping enough, drinking water, these foundational human needs changed my life. And they're not revolutionary. They're things that people have been doing for thousands of years. But in our modern society, they're weird like people say it's weird to do these things when this is just what people have been doing for all of

Speaker: all of history. Anyways, this is my short and sweet podcast for the day because it's just been on my mind since I've started sharing these opinions online. And if maybe you've been triggered by my opinions online, I do want you to sit back and think, okay,

Speaker: Is my body properly resourced? Am I getting enough nutrients? Should I let these things offend me? Or should I sit with open hands and learn from a different perspective than myself?

Speaker: This is where I've personally grown a lot in my life. it's just being able to sit with people that have different opinions than me that have different perspectives than I do in this world. The people that I love most in this entire world.

Speaker: believe completely different things. than i do we have completely different political stances completely different stances on medicine, on health, on so many different things.

Speaker: And yet, and I know that this is going to be crazy to a lot of people. But, and yet... We are still like family to each other. And so I want you to be encouraged by this in a world that cuts people off for having different opinions and in a world where everybody is offended and has a stick up their butt.

Speaker: Let's be. different as christians we're supposed to look different than the rest of the world and the rest of the world is easily offended. The rest of the world is undernourished. And we are to be.

Speaker: wholly nursed. Set apart. and every single aspect.
