00:00:13
Speaker
What is up Goal Line listeners? We are back with episode three of our eight-part preseason before we kick off the next year of the Goal Line Football Podcast.
Pee Wee Football Spotlight
00:00:23
Speaker
Jordan, what's going on, man?
00:00:25
Speaker
Not too much, man. This is the last week without football. We got a game next Thursday, so it is upon us. Yeah, we are into week two of Pee Wee football. The 8U Arlington Tigers are progressing along nicely. We got our first full pads practice on Thursday. So I think we got a lot of promise, man. We got a young team. We don't got a lot of crazy size, but I think we got some solid athletes. And I think i don't think they're going to shy away from contact once we start hitting. So.
00:00:51
Speaker
It's been fun. Definitely looking forward to to getting in some live rounds flying on Thursday.
NFL Season and Fantasy Football Hype
00:00:57
Speaker
And yeah, every day that goes by, we're one day closer to the NFL being back. It's going to be time to fire up the the signups for our fantasy football league here in a couple of weeks. This should be about you know a month out from being in the thick of fantasy football draft season. Like it's here, dude. It's time start getting hype. Yeah.
00:01:12
Speaker
Hell yeah. I'm ready.
NFC West Division Preview
00:01:14
Speaker
right, so this week we are going to be previewing the NFC West. We got some Lister mail at the end of the show, and I think Jordan's ready to kick it off with a little bit of news from around the league. Yep.
Impact of Will Levis' Injury on Titans
00:01:23
Speaker
So this week we've had Will Levis undergoing season-ending shoulder surgery. i don't know what the Titans are going to do without him, honestly. I mean, I don't think he would have been a horrible backup option, man. He's got ah you know a decent amount of experience out these two years. i don't know what we're doing for for backups now. um But yeah, weird timing, man. I don't know.
00:01:45
Speaker
There still hasn't really been any details. It seemed like the Titans got no hard feelings about it. So i don't know if this is something that they knew was lingering. And maybe, you know, this if I want to be an optimist, I would say Cam Ward's development was far enough long that they're like, yeah, you know what? Well, you're probably good to go ahead and and shut it down for this season and go and have that surgery. But I don't know. It definitely seems kind of weird. I don't know this is some sort of like face saving move for him. If they if he knows that he's definitely not starting now, maybe that's why he wanted to go ahead and do the surgery. But it's just weird. A couple of days before training camp to out of nowhere, have a a season ending shoulder surgery.
00:02:19
Speaker
Yeah, it's weird, especially considering they said he had the injury early last year and then aggravated it later in the season and then doesn't have any surgery or anything like until now. Yeah.
00:02:32
Speaker
um Just a weird, weird thing going around there. Titans are known for having a pretty good training staff, but, you know, it's also possible, hey, maybe they just got it wrong. Maybe it seemed like something he was going to play through. And as the, the you know, the intensity of the training's ramped up as we get close training camp, maybe they just realized it wasn't tough. You know, like I said, the local local media here is just obsessed with the Titans, and there's been absolutely no murmurs of anything, ah you know,
00:02:57
Speaker
Any bad feelings or anything not above board on this? So, you know, until until here and further, I think it's just, you know, slightly awkward timing to something that kind of just happened. Yeah.
Contract Drama: TJ Watt's Extension
00:03:07
Speaker
TJ Watt landed a three year, one hundred and twenty three million dollar deal for an extension. So all the rumors of him sitting out are now gone.
00:03:16
Speaker
highest Biggest non-quarterback contract in in NFL history. Yep. ah Speaking of guys sitting out, Trey Hendrickson did not show up to Bengals camp today and is going to sit out until he gets a new deal.
00:03:29
Speaker
Along with their first-round draft pick, too, man. Their first-round draft pick's up here. What is it, Sherrod Stewart? Is that it He's not. Shamar Stewart, he's not playing this season. There's no way. It just sounds like they are just completely far apart on this whole thing. Yeah.
00:03:42
Speaker
So i I heard it on Bustin' with the Boys. i didn't I've been so busy the last day and a half that I haven't had time to verify. They said that the way the NIL and amateur rules work now, he could actually go back to college and play again and get paid to play college again this year. he know Is that accurate? He'd have to get a waiver first. I mean, there's a chance he could go back, but he'd have to clear a waiver first. Yeah.
00:04:05
Speaker
Dude, this whole thing is just not a good look for the Bengals or him. Like, I just... And I mean, it feels like this kind stuff only happens with the freaking Bengals, dude. It seems like the Bengals and the Raiders are the only two teams we see these stories like this repeatedly with.
00:04:20
Speaker
Yeah, and I saw what Mike Brown said today. I'm not going to repeat it. it just area I mean, it's not good. like it's Basically, he worded it, if you're sitting in a jail cell for the season, we don't want to pay you or something like that. I'm like...
00:04:35
Speaker
Maybe that's not the way to word that. So yeah, they're they've got ah big issues, and if they don't pay Trey Hendrickson, mean, that dude led the league in sacks last year, and imagine how much worse their defense will be without him. like It's already bad enough.
00:04:51
Speaker
um Yeah, I don't i can say i you know. The devil's advocate, dude, just so we got a little bit of friction on here. I kind of see the Bengals side of it, too. Like, bro, if you were that good, how was our defense that bad last year? How much how much worse could it be, though, if he's not there?
00:05:05
Speaker
yeah um I think it could be much worse because โ We're going to give up 50 points a game instead of 40 points a game. Dude, I i think we and we talked about this when it happened. I think the Bengals really backed themselves into a corner paying all three of those guys as much money as they did being Burrow, Chase, and Higgins because this is just going to โ I mean, they've got ah basically a third of their cap just boiled up into those three guys. like they're gonna This is not going to be the last time that they're going to have a contract dispute there.
Bengals' Contract Issues and Offensive Pressure
00:05:33
Speaker
ton Ton of pressure on that offense, dude. They they need to be producing points damn near every drive, dude, whether it's field goal or touchdown. Like they they can't take too many punts this year, man.
Bills' Red Helmet Return
00:05:43
Speaker
I think the greatest news today was the Bills are bringing back their red helmet for the final game at Highmark Stadium this year.
00:05:51
Speaker
That'd be cool. So that that'll be really cool. And yeah, it's their last year there. So that'll be neat to see.
Retirement News: Tyron Matthew
00:05:57
Speaker
um Tyron Matthew retired today, which, okay.
00:06:02
Speaker
And then ah Terry McLaurin. What's with the the Honey Badger hate, dude? I think he's a pretty dang good career. Four-time All-Pro. Hey, bud, you know who he plays for? True. yeah I mean, he won a Super Bowl with the Chiefs. Okay, exactly. Do you know who he played for and plays for? Yeah, exactly. Still, though, I think salute to the honey badger. He had pretty dang good career. A little bit up and down, but the highs were very high ah throughout his 12-year NFL career.
Terry McLaurin's Contract Concerns
00:06:29
Speaker
And then the other news today was Terry McLaurin did not report to training camp, which they better get that figured out because if they don't get him re re-signed, that whole Debo trade just seems worthless at this point if they don't have Terry on the field, which I think they'll get a deal done. There's no way they're not signing him.
00:06:47
Speaker
Yeah, he's he's key, man. you you He's peaking right now. You want him around, especially for the rest of the time while you still got Jane Daniels on this rookie deal. Yeah, and that's it for news, man.
Commanders' Stadium Deal Controversy
00:06:58
Speaker
Hey, are we not going to talk about Trump threatening to block the commander's new stadium deal if they don't change the name back to the Redskins? Good God. didn't he Didn't he say something like seven years ago about the president should not be involved in these type of things? Yeah, they're they're not going to. They're going to be playing in the freaking slums of D.C., man, if they don't change it back.
00:07:18
Speaker
I'm kind of cool with not going back to the Redskins name. I feel like they could have had a compromise zone, and just come up with a different name, but keep the... keep keep the you know the the same colors and logo and stuff, man. It was definitely a downgrade going from the Redskins to the Commanders. Yeah, so on October 8th of 2013, the president should not be telling the Redskins to change their name.
00:07:40
Speaker
Our country has far bigger problems. Focus on them, not nonsense like this. Dude, we are just doing everything to deflect right now. It's just it's great. All right, you ready into the NFC West?
49ers' Challenges and Defensive Decline
00:07:55
Speaker
All right, so let's start off. We'll start at the bottom and work our way up, man. The Arizona Cardinals. That is not the bottom. That is the 49ers of the bottom. It's in order, buddy.
00:08:06
Speaker
I was kind looking at going at this year. Okay. We'll, we'll go finish. How they finished last year, man. We'll start with the Niners six and 11 last year coming off a, uh, obviously excellent 12 and five season the year before where they damn near won the Superbowl, took the chiefs to overtime two and six and one score games are 40th on offense, 14th on offense, but the defense really bottomed out, man, to, uh, to 30th. It was last season success. Obviously not, man. Last season felt like, you know, there's always Superbowl hangover with the team that comes up short.
00:08:34
Speaker
Um, It felt like the last year felt like kind of like one last hurrah for that for that 49ers core. And obviously it fell apart early with ah just a ton of injuries. seemed like a cursed year from the get go.
00:08:47
Speaker
Yeah. um Talking about the the defense being 30th in the NFL, the guys they lost are not going to help that. Like, I mean, there's a lot of people that have high hopes for the 49ers this season. I am not one of them. Like, I think their defense is going to be even worse now.
00:09:06
Speaker
so So I guess we'll see. Yeah. Last season, definitely a major fail. Yeah. I, you know, two and six and one score games, man, obviously there's room to turn that around. I do think they're going to be, think they're going to play a lot better than they did last year. I think they're a candidate for a solid, a bounce back just because I really got a lot of faith in the infrastructure there with Kyle Shanahan at coach. But agree with man, the talent still down drastically from those teams that we saw going to the NFC championship, you know, four out of five years there in the early part of this decade.
00:09:35
Speaker
Um, Paid Brock Purdy. He got he got the huge deal. we were very interested to see what they were going to do with his contract situation, but he he he secured the bag. Got rid of Debo. It felt like I think he's going to be solid for the commanders, but it definitely felt like the Debo, Samuel, Eric kind of run its course but in San Francisco. Yeah, I agree. And I just feel like they were just so far apart at the end of it last year. You could just tell he didn't want to be there anymore, and I don't think they really wanted him there.
00:10:02
Speaker
Lost some players on defense as well. Dre Greenlogon, Traverius Ward lost to free agency as well. They did draft Michael Williams out of Georgia. Christian McCaffrey, you know, yeah you got to believe as hard as that guy works, he should be back to 100% this year. But, you know, he's had an injury-riddled career, man. hey I feel like there's definitely been more years where he ends up, ah you know โ missing more games than than he plays, it seems like, especially here down stretch. And he's been such a workhorse for them the last since since he came over to San Francisco, man. So um I think a lot of stuff's up in the air. I definitely don't see them being a Super Bowl contender.
00:10:37
Speaker
i think this team can get back to playoff contention, though.
49ers' Offensive Concerns and Injuries
00:10:40
Speaker
Yeah. um I just don't โ like, I think their offense โ I get what you're saying about McCaffrey. I don't think he's ever going to be back to 100%, though. Like, having injuries in both legs is is not good, especially when you're running back and you're using your legs to cut and stuff as much as you are. I i just don't think he'll ever get back to fully 100%.
00:11:02
Speaker
So, I have skepticism there. Still don't know if Ayuk's a number one. Me and you have talked about this. Still, it doesn't matter. I mean, I just โ I don't know if he's a number one receiver.
00:11:13
Speaker
I think they'll be better, but I think it's just slightly better. I'm going say that nine wins is their ceiling. I think eight wins is their floor. I think they're gonna they'll be about eight and nine, nine and eight, somewhere in there.
00:11:27
Speaker
Yeah, ah I think they're a bit of, I think they got a chance to have a record, a slightly inflated record playing there in the NFC West. We'll get to them. I don't got super high hopes for the the Cardinals or the Seahawks this season.
00:11:39
Speaker
um So I think they could end up stacking up some wins in the division. And, you know, they're, they're them and the Rams is always usually pretty competitive, man. McVay, and um Shanahan are such coaching rivals.
00:11:51
Speaker
um So, yeah, I think fringe playoff contender is kind of where i see the Niners this year. I'll go a little bit higher. I'll say they get to around 10 and 7, 9 and 8. Okay.
Cardinals' Season Review and Kyler Murray's Role
00:12:01
Speaker
All right, let's go down. let Let's go southeast a little bit to Arizona, heading Phoenix. Dude, 8-9 last year. I was surprised they were 8-9, man, coming off a 4-13 season.
00:12:12
Speaker
They were 4-5 in one score game, so kind of a wash there. 12th in offense, 15th in defense. Man, seeing these numbers, I feel like the Cardinals actually performed a lot better than the perception was last year.
00:12:22
Speaker
Yeah, when I was looking this stuff up, I'm like, damn, they were actually a lot better than I thought. And I did watch them. They were a tough team down the stretch. I mean, they beat some decent teams during the season last year.
00:12:33
Speaker
They beat the Cowboys in whatever that was, week two or three, when the Cowboys were actually fully healthy. So, i don't know, man. Tyler's going to really have to do something for this team.
00:12:46
Speaker
i will say, i think last season was a success. They didn't make the playoffs, but going from four and 13 to eight and nine is a pretty big jump for a team that was that bad. and Yeah, for sure, man. But do we see them taking another step in 2025? I'm a little bit skeptical. It just all depends on Kyler Murray, man.
00:13:04
Speaker
It really does. Like the dude has all the talent in the world, but can he put it all together is what we're still waiting to see. i mean, what are we in year five of him? Year six, somewhere around there. We're just still waiting to see if he can put it all together in one season. So that's juries up in the air on that. If he does, i mean, I don't think 10 wins is out of the question.
00:13:26
Speaker
Yeah, I think they definitely to 10 wins. What was that? Was that 2022 season when they went, they started off eight no and and ah and made that run to the playoffs where they got beat by the Rams? Yeah, that sounds about right.
00:13:38
Speaker
Maybe 2021. I think of it that may have been the year the Rams won it. Maybe that was 2021. But yeah, they looked great that year. I still say, dude, Kyler Murray, if he gets drafted by a better franchise, I think he's one of the biggest stars in the NFL, man. Dude, so freaking talented and super charismatic. He's got, you know, he can make highlight real plays like the kids love to see, but he's just been basically buried out in the desert in Arizona since he got in the league. i mean, they got they have the weapons for him to be successful. They got Trey McBride, who's probably one of the top three tight ends.
00:14:07
Speaker
And I think Marvin Harrison's going to have a way better year this year than he did last. He just disappeared in so many games last year, and they need him to be that number one weapon for Kyler. So I think this team's going to be good, man. They got a good coaching staff.
00:14:22
Speaker
I'm not saying they're going tonna be great by any means, but like I said, if Kyler plays well and the cards fall well enough for him, I think 10 wins is not out of the question at all.
Cardinals' Inconsistencies and Injuries
00:14:31
Speaker
I can see Marvin Harrison blowing up this year too, man. we've we've In the last you know decade or so since the spread offense has become so prevalent in college, we've seen a lot more rookies um you know coming in and making an immediate impact at the wide receiver position. But for the longest, wide receiver was a position where you really had to develop. It was usually you know year two, year three before we'd really see wide receivers break out. And maybe Marvin Harrison, for whatever reason, is one that's just taken a little bit longer
00:14:55
Speaker
to transfer but yeah i i think he i think he's poised for a big breakout this this year could be a solid sleeper for fantasy football all that being said man between the injury concerns kyler's had just the overall inconsistency arizona's had uh last couple years i see them falling below the niners dude they're actually my pick for last place in the division um i'm thinking don't think they're gonna be in the mix for like worst team in the league but i'm thinking they i'm thinking we actually see them drop down a little bit in somewhere around six or seven wins this year Yeah, I mean, I could easily see that. Like I said, I think their their ceiling is 10 wins.
00:15:27
Speaker
I think their floor is probably six wins. So, yeah, I could see them anywhere in that six to 10 range. Like, it she ah everything needs to fall right for them.
Seahawks' Surprising Performance
00:15:37
Speaker
All right, let's go to an interesting team, the Seahawks, man. It seemed like the Seahawks were going into like a rebuild, but then we see them going out and spending money on Sam Donald, man. Looking at the performance from last year.
00:15:48
Speaker
ah So they were 10-7, a very tough 10-17. They looked like they were going to be a playoff team, just kind of faded down the stretch. ah That was coming off a 9-8 season the year before. So they actually improved off the year before when they made actually made the playoffs.
00:16:02
Speaker
They were six and three in one score games. Geno Smith. Just one thing about him. Dude, love or hate him. Dude has the clutch gene for sure. 18th offense, 12th in defense. Was last season a success.
00:16:13
Speaker
Dude, it's hard to say it was success not making the playoffs, but I still feel like they kind of tapped out like that. They're the best they could possibly do with the talent that they had assembled. I mean, if you would have told me at the beginning of last year, after losing Pete Carroll, having a first-year head coach, that this team would win 10 games with Geno Smith as their starting quarterback, would have told you you're crazy. Mike McDaniel is going to be a really, really good coach.
00:16:36
Speaker
um i Yeah, I just i think and the the sky is the limit for this team. Granted, we are we are relying on Sam Darnold now here, so...
00:16:48
Speaker
um Yeah, will the real Sam Darnold please stand up, man? What what do you think about old Sam, dude? I've been saying for, you know, I want to say if you go back and check, what we'll have to do get chat GPT to check the transcripts for us, dude. I had thrown out a couple kernels there, man. I thought Sam Darnold was a guy who really just needed a chance, man. he He went to two of the shittiest possible situations to start his career ah with the Jets and the Panthers before he had that little bit of time out there in San Francisco Kyle Shanahan.
00:17:14
Speaker
Looked like an MVP candidate, ah you know, early part of the year when the Vikings were kicking ass. i mean, they really kicked the ass all season, but Sam Darnold was dominating the first part of the year and then kind of trailed off.
00:17:25
Speaker
Obviously faded down the stretch and had a horrible game in the playoffs. um I don't know, man. where Who do you think is the real Sam Darnold? i think I think it's a mixture of both. I think he can be a guy that can light it up, but I also think you're going to see the Sam Darnold of the Jets every once in a while, and that you're just going to have take the good with the bad with him. So I think he's going to do well, though, with with Seattle. I think this is a good situation for him.
Roster Changes and Cooper Kupp's Impact
00:17:51
Speaker
um This team seems like they they're on the upward trajectory. i feel like they got rid of a lot of guys that were just kind of taking up cap space and... um Yeah, we'll we'll get into that now of of who they got rid of and who they signed.
00:18:04
Speaker
Yeah, i on the surface, it looks like they lost some seriously that's a serious amount of talent on offense. Obviously, Geno's gone, traded DK Metcalf, Tyler Lockett, and Noah Fant gone.
00:18:17
Speaker
But I feel like these are moves that kind of probably have more of an effect on the Seahawks in Madden than they do in real life, if that makes sense. Man, I think a lot of these guys were like โ the the The actual performance on the field never really matched like in your mind what they should be doing. Even DK Metcalf is as good as he was and is is, you know, as much of a physical freak as he is.
00:18:36
Speaker
um You know, it felt like it's it's never really quite all the way all click there, you know, dude. I will never understand him and A.J. Brown. These two dudes should be the top two receivers in the league every single season. like I still don't know how Ole Miss ever lost a game with those two guys at receiver. Well, I mean, it's pretty clear how they lost a game. that They've got some worth work ethic things that they need to get through.
00:19:00
Speaker
I don't know, dude. I felt like DK was dogging it the last three years. Like one of my really good friends is a Seahawks fan. And I told him, I was like, dude, they got to get rid of him while he still has value. It just doesn't seem like he wants to play football.
00:19:15
Speaker
Yeah, we'll see how, you know, if you can't get fired up to play for Mike Tollin in Pittsburgh, then you probably seriously got some motor issues, man. So time will tell, dude. I think we'll definitely have our answer one way another by the end of this year.
00:19:26
Speaker
um What did you think of them drafting Jalen Milrow out of Alabama? I don't think a lot of people had him, ah hit you know, touted up to go as high as he ended up going for them. I mean, he went in the third round. I don't think that's that bad. Like, I don't think there's anything wrong with where he got drafted. And I mean, if Sam Darnold's a complete bust, at least you get to find out what you got in Jalen Milrow behind him. So I don't know. I think this team is like their defense should carry them ah because I mean, McDaniel is obviously a defensive coach, so their defense is definitely going to hold them up. I mean, it did last year too. They were the 12th defense in the league, even without his guys.
00:20:02
Speaker
Um, I, I think Cup is going to ball out in this ah offense, dude. I really do. see that I think he's going to feel disrespected by the Rams just letting him go. I mean, obviously we'll get into the Rams next, but I really feel like Cooper Cup still has something left. It might not be triple crown Cooper Cup, but I feel like he's got enough left in the tank where he can give them what they need, and they got JSN still. So, dude, I think this team could be decent, man.
00:20:29
Speaker
I think I'm higher on this team than you are. Yeah, Cooper Cup definitely seems like the guy just narrative wise that like would go off for another team end of his career, man. People, you know, have people ask him what the heck the Rams were thinking. He's just got to stay healthy, though.
00:20:42
Speaker
um Outlook for this year, dude, i kind of see him around the same place, man. i think they're going to be right there, you know, nine and eight. 10 and 7, 8 and 9, and needing some tiebreakers and a couple things that bounce their way to the last couple weeks of the season to snag a wild card spot.
00:20:58
Speaker
Yeah, I think they win 10 games again. I really do. i think this team's good enough to win 10, 11 games. Dude, I think this division is going to be tough. Like, i I know what you were saying earlier about the 49ers stack and wins and stuff, but I think this division is going to be really tough.
Competitive NFC West and Rams' Playoff Potential
00:21:14
Speaker
I think the 49ers will be better. I still don't think the Cardinals are a pushover, I think the the Rams and Seahawks are going to be good. So, yeah, I don't know, man. I think this is going really tough division.
00:21:25
Speaker
i think I think the division is going to be competitive, man. I think that the four teams are are are packed together pretty tightly as far as like overall talent level and outlook for this year.
00:21:36
Speaker
i i don't see a Super Bowl contender in this group, man. you know well Let's go to the Rams. They're probably the closest thing to it. Went 10 and 7. They've gone 10 and 7 the last two years. Had some really strong playoff pushes.
00:21:47
Speaker
They were 8 and 5 in one score games. 20th on offense, 17th on defense. So they were below the Cardinals in offense and defense. As crazy as that sounds last year. But, you know, it didn't matter. They were able to rack up the wins.
00:21:58
Speaker
Was last year's success? I'd say hell yeah, dude. They pushed the Eagles to the limit, man. They gave the Eagles everything they wanted in Philly in the playoffs. In a game where almost everybody thought the Eagles were just absolutely going to cook them because of the weather, Rams stayed in that game. You can say whatever you want to tough his hell say whatever you want about teams, but they played them better than anybody else did last year. yeah That's including the Chiefs. like i The Rams gave them an actual run. Dude, when you have McVay on the sideline, I'm never going to doubt this team.
00:22:27
Speaker
like As long as they have McVay... The players can be interchanged. Like, dude, as long as you have that guy on the sideline, you have a chance every season. Dude, he had Baker Mayfield balling out, man. Yep.
00:22:38
Speaker
He probably got him a contract. Yeah, dude. So, yeah, I'm right there with you, man. McVay's right there with Shanahan to me. best Best offensive mind in the league. um So, they got to... Huge upgrade of wide receiver, man. I'd say as crazy as it sounds, letting Cooper Cup lead, we just thought they may end up regretting it. But, dude, Devontae Adams still got it, man. don't Don't be fooled by just looking at the numbers with the Jets, man. Dude still got it. I think he is going to have a gigantic year for the Rams. Also, he's technically their number two receiver because as much shit as you talked about me last year hyping up Puka, that dude is probably a top six receiver right now.
00:23:12
Speaker
So he's, yeah he's their number one target. Like it's going interesting to watch Devante Adams, not get the same amount of attention as he normally does, especially in this ah offense. Cause you know, McVay is going to scheme some shit up for him to just go wild. Some games.
00:23:26
Speaker
Dude, I think Devontae Adams might have a triple crown season loading up, man. I think he's going to put up freaking Buku numbers. He's a vet. I think Matt Stafford's going to love having him out there. I see an absolutely monster year coming for him and Pukunakua. I think this team's going to be nasty this year, man. I think they're really good.
00:23:45
Speaker
They hit on all their draft picks last year. like Jared Verse was obviously a huge hit. Yeah, I think this team's going to really good. Still got Kyron Williams at running back. I did i worry about Matt Stafford and Father Ty, man. he had a he He had a solid year last year.
00:24:00
Speaker
ah you know He was banged up a little bit 2023 season and had a really rough 2022 that year after the Super Bowl, man. ah And Father Ty is undefeated and he's got a lot of miles on those tires, dude. So that that's probably my biggest concern is just Matt Stafford staying healthy.
00:24:17
Speaker
um I worry about that, man. i don't think they're... And the other thing is I don't see them absolutely running away with it in the regular season. I kind of see these guys, you know, 11 wins, maybe 12 wins if they get a little bit more lucky in these one-score games.
00:24:33
Speaker
But I think they're going to have to hit the road in the playoffs, man. You know, I think i think they're the odds on favorites with the division, but I see them going onto the road after that after that first playoff game, and it's it's just always going to be tough because there's just no easy draws in the NFC playoffs anymore. Yeah, I agree with you. I think they're right around the same this year. i think think 10-11 wins is probably where they're going to be at.
00:24:54
Speaker
I don't know, though, man. If Devontae, like you said, it all depends on Stafford. If Stafford can stay healthy and play every game and Devontae's as good as we think he's going to be, i mean, shit I guess I wouldn't be surprised if they won like 12-13 games if if health if all the health holds up for them.
00:25:11
Speaker
Yeah, i think if they can get the two I think it's key for them to get the two seed, man. Because if you get the two seed, that means you're at home for whatever your second round playoff game is going to be. you know and then And then, hey, you go on the road for one NFC championship game and then you're in the Super Bowl, man. I just think going on the road, two straight playoff games can be tough. I kind of put them as a fringe NFC contender, dude. i don't I'm not putting them up there with the with the commanders and the Eagles of the world. I kind of got them on the the next tier down.
00:25:41
Speaker
Yeah, I could agree with that. I think there they're right there. Second or third best team in the NFC. I wouldn't be surprised if they got the two seed, honestly. I mean, you said, they got McVay, man.
00:25:53
Speaker
Yeah, I'm not going to, as ugly as anyone was last year, I can't downgrade the Lions too much. I think I got the Rams number four behind Washington, Philly, and Detroit, man. Oh, yeah, but that but one of those teams is not going to get a top four seed, so True. Yeah, that's that's the big rub. Yeah, I think to me, the Washington and Philly are definitely the two best teams in the NFC going into the season. and Yeah, one of those teams is going on the road for the playoffs, which which makes it a lot of fun.
00:26:18
Speaker
And that that NFC East division you know run it is going to be definitely one to watch for the entire conference. I think if you're the rest these teams, you're hoping they beat up on each other enough to where somebody else can slide in and grab that one seed. Yeah.
00:26:31
Speaker
But, yeah, like said, the Rams, as long as Stafford's healthy and McVay's dialing them up on the sidelines, there's no game. They they have ah at least a puncher's chance every time they go out there and line up. just think about that game against the Bills last year in the regular season, man. What a freaking instant classic that was. Yeah, dude, they're legit. they They got a chance every time. so So we'll do our standings.
Predicted NFC West Standings
00:26:51
Speaker
I'll go last to first. I'm going cards. Then I think these top three are going to be a little bit far behind. I think these top three are going be bunched up tight, but I'm going to Seahawks, Niners, Rams. I think the Niners bounce back and get a second place in the division this year.
00:27:06
Speaker
I'm going to go Cardinals, Niners, Seahawks, Rams. right. And then who do you think is making the playoffs, man? Do you think Seahawks and and Rams get in?
00:27:23
Speaker
Yeah, i'll so I'll say they both end up getting in I think the the Rams win the division, like I said, and I think the Seahawks end up at the seventh seed. Yeah, i'll I'll go same. I think Rams win the division right away. i think the Niners find a way to to sneak in and grab a wild card spot.
00:27:38
Speaker
ah You ready to hit the listener mail? Let's do it.
00:27:43
Speaker
All right, let's start off with our buddy Sam Rosenthal. He's got three for us, man. Which games are you going to this year, Jordan? So I'm going to week two, Falcons at Vikings on Sunday Night Football.
00:27:58
Speaker
And then I'm not sure of any others right now, but I'll at least hit one more game this season. I'm going to Titans, c Colts in Nashville. i believe that's week three. And then right before Christmas, we got Titans and Chiefs. Definitely going to that one, too.
00:28:12
Speaker
That's in Nashville? Yeah. Oh, nice. All right. Do you think college football will ever be big in the Northeast? why Why has college football never caught on up in the Northeast like it has in the Midwest and the South?
00:28:23
Speaker
I mean, name a really good team in the Northeast.
00:28:28
Speaker
Boston College has had moments. Name a really good team in the Northeast.
00:28:35
Speaker
Exactly. I mean, dude, outside of Boston. It started in the Northeast, though. Princeton and Yale was the first ever college football game. get it, dude, but I just think like East Coast, like Upper East Coast, is more of like professional football. Same thing with West Coast.
00:28:48
Speaker
It's professional sports. like That's just always what they're going to live on. like I don't know. Maybe it's just me. I just feel like college sports are like... a Midwestern thing. I mean, yeah, obviously they go into like Tennessee and stuff, but I, I always just like picture like college football is just like the center of the U S and the coast aren't as into it as, as the, the middle part of the country is. So I don't know, man, I don't know. I don't know what would make it bigger up there. I don't understand why you would not want to watch college football, dude. College football is I mean, it's awesome. I'm so glad I got Seth back into it.
00:29:24
Speaker
Yeah, I got there's some serious like foundational issues with the game. But if you can kind of block that out, just tune in and watch it. It's a very, very entertaining brand of football to watch on TV.
00:29:34
Speaker
Yeah. All right. He also says, who is your pick for surprise playoff team this year? And the team expected to make it but will not. a I think we're going mostly chalk so far in our picks, man. i don't think we have any crazy surprises, but surprise like what?
00:29:54
Speaker
I don't know, man. That's tough. like I think one team that is going to take a fall off this year is Miami. i just i do not see that team being good this year.
00:30:06
Speaker
that They've had so much shit that has gone right for them, and then on the same hand, so much shit that's gone wrong for them. I just don't trust Tua. ah just I feel like they're destined to to take a tumble, and I think this year is the year they do it.
00:30:21
Speaker
Surprise team that makes it. i I'll stick in the AFC and I'll say... I'm
00:30:32
Speaker
going to say Jacksonville. I think Titans, bro. I think Titans got a shot to be a surprise team. Now, am I putting the mortgage on it? No, but I think if, you know, that dude, that stuff, everything coming out of cant about Cam Ward has been so overwhelmingly positive. I feel like where there's smoke, there's got to be at least a little bit of fire.
00:30:49
Speaker
um And so, you know, I'll just, I'll keep the good vibes going and say that the Titans make a run. The good thing is Texans are pretty solid, but there's really nobody in the AFC South that is like an unbeatable monster, right? There's nobody that, uh,
00:31:02
Speaker
There's nobody that's really keeping me up at night, man, about the Titans have to play them twice. So I'll say, hey, maybe they're going to have enough wins to snag a wild card spot. Yeah, I can see it. All right. And last questions from our boy, Zach Squirtzler.
00:31:15
Speaker
RIP. We lost a legend today. Ozzy Osbourne. Mama, he's coming home. Favorite Black Sabbath or Ozzy Osbourne song? Dude, that concert two weeks ago makes it even more depressing now. Like, literally died two weeks later. It was legit a farewell performance, man. i Think of how lucky all the folks that were in the stands for that were. I can't even imagine.
00:31:33
Speaker
Thought Ozzy still sounded pretty good, man. Yeah. I mean, outside him being in shit health, which I think everybody kind of knew that. um Honestly, dude, like I think every i think the the top three songs, are i mean everybody's got their favorites, but I'd probably go War Pigs as my favorites. I love that song, man.
00:31:51
Speaker
It's a banger. War Pigs is a banger. You get Crazy Train. Iron Man's a good one, dude. Mr. Crowley. You got a lot of my mom coming home, we mentioned. um i'll go We'll go and wrap it up cause i got sit up for the outro, man. My all-time favorite, this is one that I got turned on by a Guitar Hero, Bark at the Moon, man. a freaking wicked guitar solo.
00:32:10
Speaker
If you still got a dusty PS2 and a guitar sitting around, man, try get grab that guitar here. I want to say it's Guitar Hero 2. Grab that disc and play this song. It was always a ton of fun to play, man. So we'll hit you we got it with the outro.
00:32:21
Speaker
ah Jordan, give us some closing words and we'll get out of here. Last week without football, we yacht we made it through.
00:33:05
Speaker
Park at the moon. Ha ha ha ha ha.
00:33:12
Speaker
Yes, bounty torment.
