Jeff: Go.

JT Spangler: We're on.

Jeff: Ladies and gentlemen.

JT Spangler: What happened? Where'd go?

Jeff: There it is.

JT Spangler: Right back.

JT Spangler: Welcome to the 1995 Nathan's Awards from Movie Life Crisis.

Jeff: Is it Nathan's award?

JT Spangler: I think it is.

JT Spangler: right, good. We don't need to go into the second verse.

Jeff: Powerpaste.

JT Spangler: Well, I thought it had a, like, volume bar, and I was trying to, like, slow fade it manually, but that didn't that didn't seem to work.

Jeff: It

JT Spangler: But...

Jeff: it just stops. um Is it Nathan's award or Nathan Awards?

JT Spangler: I had it as Nathan's, but... um

Jeff: Nathan's is what you're like, hey, let's give him the Oscars. Let's go. Let's watch the Oscars. I get that part. But it's the Oscar awards. No Oscars.

JT Spangler: Well, the so the i'm I'm basing it on the hot dogs.

Jeff: Right.

JT Spangler: are actually called Nathan's, apostrophe S.

Jeff: Right, right, right. Right.

JT Spangler: So if we're saying that we're the we're the less popular but better than the Oscar, yeah.

Jeff: Nathan's.

Jeff: Oscar Meyer. Right.

JT Spangler: um Yeah.

Jeff: Batman or Batman's.

JT Spangler: Bat Men's, season five, episode 27, our 95 awards show, which is, we've been calling the Nathan's. I think this is our third annual or fourth annual. I can't remember.

Jeff: Third or fourth, yeah, yeah, we've been doing these for a bit.

JT Spangler: Yeah, but it's our year in review episode where we go back through our favorite movies from the season. It's like our redo of the Oscars, except we don't care about any of the things that they care about, and we only look at podcast movies for our awards categories.

Jeff: Right.

Jeff: Right. And we don't have Gervais just slaying people.

JT Spangler: No, but we also don't have any music that if you talk too long, they play you off the stage. We just talk for however long we want.

Jeff: All right, then. Bye, Candias.

JT Spangler: ah yeah Let's get back to the eggnog. um

Jeff: Yes.

JT Spangler: Yeah, man, 26 movies on the main feed. that's our That's our number we do every two weeks. So this is like the fourth year in a row we've done 26. The first year we only did like 13 episodes because we started midway through.

Jeff: Yeah.

JT Spangler: But that's been our number, 26, and then an awards episode. About 30 35 hours I think

Jeff: that's But don't... What about the warm-up episode? That counts, too, doesn't it?

JT Spangler: yeah i think so

Jeff: No? Yeah.

JT Spangler: Well, we also usually do like a, i don't know we're going to it this year because the calendar, but usually like, it's like, Hey, it's about to be 95. Here's what we're excited about. Here's what Bill Clinton was doing in real 95, but I don't think we're going that this year.

Jeff: Turns out that's pretty prevalent right now in the news anyway. So.

JT Spangler: Yeah. mean there's no, there's no news about Bill Clinton, so there's no need to do that. Like this is the year that OJ who drove down the freeway in his white Bronco, uh,

Jeff: Yeah. Right.

JT Spangler: like, dude, I saw something recently. i was like, hey, can someone tell me what the story is with OJ? Did he actually kill his wife? And the top comment was like, no, he didn't kill his wife. They were divorced. It was his ex-wife. But...

Jeff: Ah, nice.

JT Spangler: But anyway, point is 30 to 35 hours of podcasting, entertainment slash educational slash content slash idiots talking.

Jeff: The arts.

JT Spangler: Pretty good.

Jeff: Yeah.

JT Spangler: Listenership is holding steady, strong. People are still listening. People are still... In fact, someone told me today that ah my buddy Kyle, his buddy Eric, who I've known for a long time, has started listening to the podcast and was telling Kyle how good of a job we're doing slash how terrible our movie takes are.

JT Spangler: And i was like, that's perfect. Because...

Jeff: yeah are doing such a great job at picking the worst movies and saying they're good.

JT Spangler: Yeah. Yeah. That's, that is exactly what we, that's exactly what we want. Cause Eric like wears a beret and loves the pianist. And so he's our age. These guys, God, they're doing a good job, but they don't know anything about movies, which is a totally, totally valid position.

JT Spangler: And I love it.

Jeff: Yeah, he's going to hate the ones that I loved this year.

JT Spangler: He was not a big bye bye love fan, I guess. No, I don't know. Uh,

Jeff: He's never seen it because it's not anywhere.

JT Spangler: Yeah, she's disappeared. But yeah, I did a little i did a little did a little work on our ratings just to figure it out. I like to see what we rated highly and what we didn't rate highly. Jeff, his average rating this season is up to 7.6 out of 10, Chimmy Dogs, up from 7.5.

Jeff: Yeah.

Jeff: Nice. Nice.

JT Spangler: This is why we don't allow sevens, because both of our average ratings landed dead smack in the middle of the sevens.

Jeff: Right the middle. Yeah.

JT Spangler: Because my average was 7.5, so we're even with no sevens allowed, we're still right 7.5.

Jeff: We're still hitting the sevens. Yeah, of course we are. It's, it's the number.

JT Spangler: Yeah. ah So you averaged 7.6. I averaged 7.5. Dude, we didn't agree. We only ah had the same exact rating on one movie, which is also a new low.

Jeff: Hmm.

JT Spangler: That was Eric's, one of his other complaints that we agreed too much. I was like, dude, we don't want to agree. we act We prefer to not. We just like a lot of the same shit.

Jeff: Yeah, that is for sure.

JT Spangler: But yeah, i think I feel like we're getting the ratings really dialed in. We're a lot lot more consistent, I think. And we're also picking movies that don't suck for the most part. Occasionally we miss on one, like Pocahontas, or The Net, or Waterworld.

Jeff: Yeah. everyone Every once in a while water world, but, you know, I mean, not always.

JT Spangler: But for the most part,

JT Spangler: yeah, Cap'n Ron.

Jeff: Yeah.

JT Spangler: But no, we yeah like we're picking we're picking better movies.

Jeff: o would

JT Spangler: But the only exact agreement I had this year was Usual Suspects, which we both gave 9 out of 10.

Jeff: yeah

JT Spangler: um

Jeff: Yeah. It's a great movie.

JT Spangler: But we were within a half of a chimmy dog on like almost like 15 movies. Like we were frigging real close.

Jeff: Right. Yeah.

JT Spangler: But yeah. And I think the biggest gap I found this year, biggest Delta was ah Empire Records, which you had at a five out of 10 and I had an eight and a half.

Jeff: Yeah. and what What did you give the net with... um Sandra Bullock?

JT Spangler: Hmm.

Jeff: Because I feel like I remember me saying, oh man, that movie was really good, better than I remember, even though it was crappy, it was eight.

JT Spangler: Hmm.

Jeff: That's what I gave it.

JT Spangler: I gave it a six.

Jeff: Yeah, that's a pretty big jump, yeah.

JT Spangler: Yeah. Yeah, we didn' so we've had some where we were like four and a half to five chimmy dogs apart, but this one is, so we're getting. So again, like I said, Eric and other people, I'm sure very valid concern. We like all the same stuff.

JT Spangler: We agree too much. We're with you, buddy.

Jeff: Yeah.

JT Spangler: We just like a lot of the same shit.

Jeff: Yeah.

JT Spangler: The next thing I had was movies we wanted to get to, but didn't.

Jeff: Yeah.

JT Spangler: I think this year that i there weren't really a ton. I feel like I'm pretty happy with what we did. Like I would have liked to have done The American President.

Jeff: Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. I didn't put that on my list.

JT Spangler: And I would have liked to have done Ace Ventura.

Jeff: Yeah.

JT Spangler: um um What's the next Ace Ventura?

Jeff: When nature calls.

JT Spangler: When nature calls.

Jeff: When nature calls. Yeah.

JT Spangler: But yeah I mean, but I'm mostly like I'm...

Jeff: i kind of I kind of wanted to do 12 monkeys and and maybe be Desperado.

JT Spangler: Yeah, 12 Monkeys. That would have been cool. um I would have liked to have done Desperado the first half. Did you... um What about Crimson Tide?

Jeff: Right. Right.

JT Spangler: You talked about that a couple of times.

Jeff: I put Crimson Tide in there. I put Congo in there and Johnny Mnemonic. Because all of those, like, I remember watching.

JT Spangler: Yeah. Yeah.

Jeff: So, like...

JT Spangler: Yeah, Johnny Mnemonic and that guy what's the other one with Russell Crowe and Denzel?

Jeff: Oh, Virtuosity.

JT Spangler: Virtuosity.

Jeff: That was one of my deep cuts. Yeah.

JT Spangler: though either Either Johnny Mnemonic or Virtuosity would have been great because the technology is so old. That would have been a really, either of those would have been really fun.

Jeff: Yeah.

JT Spangler: So, i mean, we can we're just, dude, we're in the best part of the best movie decade.

Jeff: Yeah, yeah.

JT Spangler: There's a lot.

Jeff: I put like ah deep cuts were like house guests with Sinbad, like Nick of time with Johnny Depp, where the time in the movie passes the same exact time as in real life.

JT Spangler: Oh, Housecast.

JT Spangler: Oh, yeah.

Jeff: It's like a real two hour frame of movie and then powder.

JT Spangler: Yes, I like that. Mr. Holland's opus.

Jeff: Mr. Holland. See, Mr. Holland's opus was good, I guess, but I only liked it because of that Sean song.

JT Spangler: Agreed.

Jeff: The visions of a sunset, which if I go back and listen to it, it's not as good as I remember.

JT Spangler: Yeah, visions of a sunset.

JT Spangler: No, but that was at the time when you couldn't get all of the boys to me that you wanted and you had to get that on the like soundtrack from the tape.

Jeff: There's

JT Spangler: Leaving Las Vegas, I like that.

Jeff: right.

JT Spangler: I would have done that one.

Jeff: Yeah. I like that one too. I like Elizabeth shoe and Nick cage.

JT Spangler: If we were doing it every week, we would, I think we could get like 35 movies that we were pretty excited about and then we'd have 15 where it's like, boy, I really want to call in sick today to my podcast.

Jeff: Um,

Jeff: yeah Oh man, I can't believe Pocahontas was one we picked.

JT Spangler: Yeah, I can't believe I got to show up today and talk about boys on the side.

Jeff: To be honest though, if knowing now what I know, i loved talking about Waterworld and Pocahontas because they were crappy. But like, if I would have done whatever, 12 Monkeys and Crimson Tide instead, i would have been okay with that also.

JT Spangler: yeah

JT Spangler: Yeah.

Jeff: That's kind of how I was going through it.

JT Spangler: Yeah. Yeah, man. I think, but I feel pretty good about the stuff that we did was and absolutely incredible. Like I'm looking at the list. and I was like, dude, this is, this is like, dude, heat mall rats, Batman forever outbreak Friday, usual suspects, the net water world, empire records, major pain, diehard with a vengeance, Billy Madison, bad boys, clueless money train, Tommy boy, brave heart. Bye bye. Love quick in the dead toy story, casino, Pocahontas seven while you were sleeping, get shorty and a goofy movie.

Jeff: Yeah, it's a pretty good run.

JT Spangler: Yeah.

Jeff: That's a lot of good movies.

JT Spangler: It's a lot of good movies.

Jeff: Yeah.

JT Spangler: let's do Let's do our top performances of 1995. This is our best actor or actress, Nathan's award. You want to go start with five?

Jeff: All right. Wait, yeah, let's do five. So first of all, real fast, I always have to ask because I can't remember. Are these like, man, this is the best performance?

Jeff: Like critically, this is it. Or like best as in like, this is, I think, the best. It's my favorite. Because that's what I did.

JT Spangler: think it's i think it's I think it's that for me. I think the way I was thinking of it is like, if I was going to have a conversation with my notes about who did the best job in 1995 in the year 2025, I'd be like, well, I got to talk about this person.

Jeff: Right, right.

JT Spangler: um So it's like kind of like maybe best, but also kind of like most memorable.

Jeff: Okay. That's what...

JT Spangler: Like last year it was Forrest Gump. Like that was a freaking slam dunk for me.

Jeff: Right.

JT Spangler: Yeah.

Jeff: Yeah. I almost did Tom Hanks again, but didn't. So who's your first one?

JT Spangler: I know.

Jeff: Or are we starting at the bottom?

JT Spangler: But number ah number five for me is Adam Sandler, Billy Madison.

Jeff: Yeah, dude, I struggled.

JT Spangler: Because he really, he never gets credit for his acting, especially for his comedies.

Jeff: I wanted to.

JT Spangler: And like, I just, I'm i'm putting myself back in 95 where we're just starting to get into the Adam Sandler era where like people are wearing baggy shorts and pushing each other into bushes and like quoting all the time.

Jeff: Yeah. Yeah.

Jeff: All the time, all the time.

JT Spangler: And this is the first Adam Sandler, like, happy Madison movie. And, dude, just Veronica Vaughn, so hot.

Jeff: Yeah.

JT Spangler: Want to touch the hiney?

Jeff: He...

JT Spangler: ah All of the Billy Madison shit was just freaking cracked me up.

Jeff: Yeah, he killed it.

Jeff: Yeah. I didn't...

JT Spangler: Also, this is the hardest this the hardest year we've ever had for quotes. I don't know. 94 was tough.

Jeff: Hardest as in... Like you couldn't pick one or hardest.

JT Spangler: Picking top five.

Jeff: Isn't yeah.

JT Spangler: Dude, Tommy Boy, Major Pain, Billy Madison, freaking Friday.

Jeff: Yeah. Yeah. Right.

JT Spangler: ah I... got Jesus.

Jeff: No, I know it was tough. It was tough.

JT Spangler: Yeah.

Jeff: I got it down to five, but it was tough. um I dude, I didn't go Adam Sandler and he was on there and I erased him. My number five was a Tevin Campbell is power line because ever since we watched that movie, I've listened to that song about 40 times.

JT Spangler: Yeah, that's...

Jeff: Um,

JT Spangler: That is...

Jeff: Cece got a pads, like drum pad thing for Christmas, which was great because it comes with the headphones that plug in that we don't own.

JT Spangler: Nice.

JT Spangler: Yeah, that's the move.

Jeff: And well, we don't have any of those anymore. But she is like, can you put on the Goofy song so I can play along with it? And she's just trying to like, it's, dude, I've been listening to it nonstop.

Jeff: Tevin, you killed it.

JT Spangler: It's dude. It's great. The two Tevin Campbell songs from the goofy movie were fantastic. Yeah.

Jeff: Killed it, killed it.

JT Spangler: Um, fourth for me is one that I think actually won an Oscar for the year. It's Kevin Spacey from usual suspects.

Jeff: He was my number three. Yeah. Kaiser Sosa.

JT Spangler: Kaiser Soze, man. Because that, especially at the, that was one where I'm like, if I'm talking about 95 movies and I don't mention Kevin Spacey's performance as Kaiser Soze, I feel like i would be, I would be really doing myself a disservice.

Jeff: So,

JT Spangler: like That shit was, and especially in the moment when you didn't know what was going to happen.

Jeff: Oh, absolutely.

Jeff: Which is what I had.

JT Spangler: I feel like everyone collectively in the movie theater or at home, on home video, please be kind, Rewind, was like, whoa, what the hell?

Jeff: Yeah.

Jeff: Yeah.

JT Spangler: Like he's walking out of the police station. He's like starting to like straighten up. He's freaking, he's throws his cane away and he's you're so you're cutting to the bulletin board where he's like pulling all the stuff off of the names of the freaking manufacturers and shit.

Jeff: Killer.

Jeff: Killer. Yeah. Yeah, it was a great, that was one of those, hey, this is a really good critical performance and I'm putting it in there, but not only because it was my favorite because of the twist, but also it was a really good performance.

JT Spangler: And dude, could also put him in there for seven because that was a also an incredible performance.

Jeff: Yeah. I wish he wasn't so weird.

JT Spangler: But yeah, so who's your who's your number four?

Jeff: Number four for me is Alicia Silverstone as Cher in Clueless. um

JT Spangler: She's on my list.

Jeff: I thought she killed it. I love that movie.

JT Spangler: Yeah. Yeah.

Jeff: And I love it for a number of different reasons. But one of the main ones is because of how good she is.

JT Spangler: Yeah, dude, that's ah that's a like a that's like a shooting star performance. like Alicia Silverstone's good. She does more a couple more pretty good movies, but this is like so ah such an incredible, iconic performance that everybody, men and women of all ages, like even right now, are still like, that was great.

Jeff: Yeah.

Jeff: Yeah, she did. She killed it. I'm freaking I want to start saying as if like her just more.

JT Spangler: Yeah.

JT Spangler: Yeah.

Jeff: See if I can't bring it back.

JT Spangler: ah you You can. I believe in you. My tennis instructor doesn't want me to have any outside coaching. ah to And your third is Kevin Spacey?

Jeff: There goes your social life. um Yeah, dude, she freaking And third for me is Kevin Spacey. Who's your third?

JT Spangler: My third is Will Smith, Bad Boys.

Jeff: Dude, he's my number one.

JT Spangler: Because this is Will Smith, this is Will Smith, Grammy winner, Will Smith, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, but we don't know Will Smith, the action star, until this movie, and he is absolutely incredible.

Jeff: So good. Mike Lowry.

Jeff: Right.

JT Spangler: And he's, dude, it's that movie so funny, and this action is so good, and it's so quotable.

Jeff: I.

JT Spangler: it's it's it's It's legit.

Jeff: ah He became one of my favorite like comedy action stars after this movie. And is still, it's one of my favorites.

JT Spangler: Yeah. Everybody's.

Jeff: Yeah, he's unbelievable in this.

JT Spangler: Yeah. Yeah. That's awesome. Who's your number two?

Jeff: his Number two for me...

JT Spangler: Or you got more on Will Smith?

Jeff: Well, no, no. I mean, I do, but like I could talk about him for the rest of the time.

JT Spangler: Yeah.

Jeff: I'm saying like he he kills it. I had to put him for number one. He's like... I wish I could be as cool as Mike Lowry. I just wish I was King Dingling. um

JT Spangler: I know.

Jeff: Number two for me is one that I couldn't stop quoting for the longest time and has nothing to do with smoking weed, but it's Smokey, Chris Tucker from Friday.

Jeff: ah That shit cracks me up so much.

JT Spangler: yeah I'm not going lie, man.

Jeff: I just...

JT Spangler: i felt I felt really dumb for not finding a way to get Chris Tucker into my top five because that is such an incredibly iconic comedic performance from a ridiculously good movie.

Jeff: he He kills it. um Yeah, yeah. I love it.

JT Spangler: may I mean, stupid.

Jeff: Right. Way, way dumb, but I love it.

JT Spangler: Yeah, he's he's amazing. I went with another ah critically acclaimed performance, which is Mel Gibson in Braveheart, because he was incredible in that movie.

Jeff: Yeah. That's a good call.

JT Spangler: He won best doctorctor Best Actor for that performance or Best Picture for the movie. I forget. But regardless, I was like, dude, my guy...

Jeff: I think he got so he got nominated for director, too, if I remember, but

JT Spangler: Yeah. But I was like, ah Mel Gibson and Kevin Spacey, like real actors that got real awards for that shit. They were fucking fantastic. And movies I really liked. Yeah.

Jeff: Yeah.

JT Spangler: God, dude, Smokey. Chris Tucker.

Jeff: Yeah.

JT Spangler: That is that isn't a great call. um And your number one was

Jeff: My number one was Will Smith. Who's your number one?

JT Spangler: Will Smith. My number one is Alicia Silverstone.

Jeff: Yeah, dude, she did such a good job.

JT Spangler: Because I just looked at the movies from the year just real quickly. And I was like, as I just as i go through this list, like but like Like my long list was like Damon Wayans from Major Pain. I didn't do that because I felt kind of stupid, even though I love that movie.

Jeff: Yeah.

Jeff: Right, right.

JT Spangler: I'm like, Clueless is still an absolutely timeless movie that she crushed. And I couldn't, yeah I mean, I couldn't think of anyone else that I would put in her place.

Jeff: Right. Nobody else plays Cher. I like totally paused.

JT Spangler: Yeah.

JT Spangler: That's in my quotes.

Jeff: Of course it is.

JT Spangler: Because I say it five times a week when I California roll a stop sign.

Jeff: Yeah. Yeah. All the things that I say all the time is what I put in my quotes as well.

JT Spangler: Yeah. Honorable mention for Smokey, Chris Tucker, and Friday, and for Robert De Niro and Heat.

Jeff: Oh, yeah. Yeah. Robert De Niro in heat and in casino killed it.

JT Spangler: Yeah, he was... Another good year for him. On other podcasts where they care more about movies, they probably talk a lot more about that.

Jeff: Yeah, it was.

JT Spangler: um

Jeff: Let me show you why this makes him.

JT Spangler: Those podcasts don't have a yearly award section for quotes like we do, where it's just all funny quotes.

Jeff: bad

Jeff: Yeah. um

JT Spangler: Neva does the Oscars.

Jeff: Yeah, that's a shame.

JT Spangler: that Dude, this was a... I limited myself to one quote per movie, which was very tough with Tommy Boy and with Friday,

Jeff: Quote heavy.

Jeff: So you have 26 quotes?

JT Spangler: No, but I'm saying like I didn't, I could have filled the top five up with Major Pain or with Friday or with Billy Madison or with Tommy Boy.

Jeff: but

Jeff: Just mentioned. Right, right, right, right.

JT Spangler: All of those movies have more than five quotes.

Jeff: Yeah. Yeah, yeah. Yeah.

JT Spangler: ah So number five for me is back up, put the gun down and give me a pack of tropical fruit Bubblicious. Yeah.

Jeff: And some Skittles.

JT Spangler: And some Skittles.

Jeff: Oh, man.

JT Spangler: From Bad Boys.

Jeff: Oh, shit. You want baddest mother bitch? I freaking love that.

JT Spangler: i Dude, and that was tough, man, because Bad Boys has got a ton of quotes. What about pickle? Can I eat the pickle? I've got a lot of salt.

Jeff: Okay. so Ma'am, I'm baloney got a first name. Actually, you baloney has about 15 names. ah But how do you pick?

JT Spangler: i Because I was too much bass in your voice.

Jeff: Like you do a vet out necker.

JT Spangler: I'd be scaring white people. I was making them all you. You came in here.

Jeff: This dude just last night will was in town for Christmas sitting on the couch. we We're watching something and it had ah all about the base Megan trainer and she's wearing a shirt and it's just kind of open a little bit and he's like to hang in a little bit like like it just it's part of our lexicon when we just say it

JT Spangler: Yeah, Meghan Trainor.

JT Spangler: You threw Yvette out and naked? She's a masseuse. She massages shit. ah

Jeff: We just say it.

JT Spangler: Wesley Snipes, passenger 57. Now give me motherfucking Handy Wipe. Like, there's just so many...

Jeff: Yeah.

JT Spangler: that's Bad Voice is not the most quotable movie of the year, but it's just deep, man.

Jeff: Yeah.

Jeff: It's pretty close to me.

JT Spangler: So, I went with Tropical Fruit, Bubblicious, and some Skittles for number five.

Jeff: Yeah.

Jeff: I say and some Skittles all the time. Every time somebody says something with force, I ended up with, yeah, and some Skittles. And nobody knows what I'm talking to about. um ah Number five for me was from Tommy Boy.

Jeff: It was cat like speed and reflexes.

JT Spangler: Oh, man.

Jeff: I freaking love that. Every time somebody catches something before it hits the ground or does something like that, I'm always like, cat, like speed and reflexes.

Jeff: um And I love it, but I could.

JT Spangler: that if i see so If I see someone make a good catch, I usually say, blown coverage, and the coverage blows.

Jeff: Pour some out for Johnny only because he didn't talk to us anymore. Um,

JT Spangler: He's still alive. He just is in Ohio.

Jeff: Yeah, he's just way far away.

JT Spangler: um yeah Yeah, dude.

Jeff: um

JT Spangler: Yeah.

Jeff: Yeah, to Tommy Boy is what I went with. Dude, I picked, like, I only did one from each movie, too, like you're saying. Not one from each movie, but you know what I mean.

JT Spangler: Yeah.

JT Spangler: Yeah, man, so I didn't do that one from Tommy Boy, but number four for me is from Tommy Boy.

Jeff: um

JT Spangler: Number four is, if you want me to take a dump in a box and mark it guaranteed, I will. I've got spare time.

Jeff: And there's change missing off your dresser. I've seen it a hundred times.

JT Spangler: Then your daughter's knocked up.

Jeff: Yeah.

Jeff: I could call. I could do Tommy Boy, like, just...

JT Spangler: Yeah.

Jeff: Were you in there just a second?

JT Spangler: If by finesse, did you mean sputtering out sentence fragments and lighting things on fire?

Jeff: Nice to see you again, Mr. Insulci. Have you seen Richard? um ah Yeah, the other thing I say from Tommy Boy all the time...

JT Spangler: Not here or here so much, but right here.

JT Spangler: Mommy, mommy, the rhino's getting too close to the car. That's it, little man, I'm gonna wail on you.

Jeff: what'd you do that's the one i always do when it's like something that i know they didn't mean to break um i uh

JT Spangler: The one I do from Tommy Boy personally all the time is, brothers can't shake hands, brothers gotta a hug. Every time someone wants to shake my hand and I actually like them, I go, brothers can't shake hands.

Jeff: i there's nothing not to love about tommy boy um

JT Spangler: Yeah, dude.

Jeff: What's your number four? No, that is your number four.

JT Spangler: That was number four, Tommy Boy.

Jeff: That was number four.

JT Spangler: What's your number four?

Jeff: For me is Major Pain. If he ain't there, he ain't happy.

JT Spangler: Oh, man.

Jeff: um

JT Spangler: If he's still in there, he ain't happy.

Jeff: It was either that or Major Pain just, what was it?

JT Spangler: Terminated that Batman with extreme prejudice.

Jeff: Annihilated? Prejudice. Ah, man.

JT Spangler: Charlie run a load of AK-47 over the mountains.

Jeff: i do

JT Spangler: Chugga, chugga, chugga.

Jeff: His little nubs kicking like this here.

JT Spangler: I said, pop your titty out the boy's mouth. I have a major pain quote as well at the top of my list.

Jeff: ah That's awesome. um

JT Spangler: God.

Jeff: So what's your number three?

JT Spangler: Number three for me is I totally paused from Clueless.

Jeff: See, mine's from Clueless also, but it's not from Cher. It's from her dad. Because every time I want to sit in a certain spot on the couch, I go, get out of my chair.

JT Spangler: Get out of my chair.

Jeff: Daddy, this is my friend Ty. I have a 45 and a shovel. I doubt anyone will miss you. ah Dude.

JT Spangler: I'm not offering. ah God.

Jeff: So yeah, Ghoulish, the dad, kills it.

JT Spangler: that's That's great because no one would ever recognize that that quote was from Clueless, even people who are huge Clueless fans.

Jeff: Yeah. I try to say it in the accent, though.

JT Spangler: I love that. Yeah.

Jeff: man Just maybe it helps.

JT Spangler: Oh man. the My number two was from Friday. And ah again, man, I don't, how do how do I get only one Friday quote? But I ended up with every time I come in the kitchen, you in the kitchen, in the goddamn refrigerator, eating up all the food.

Jeff: Right.

Jeff: better put some water on that shit um

JT Spangler: Friggin' John Witherspoon is is my jam. I'm so sad that he died because everything he said cracked me up in that movie and everything else he did.

Jeff: um Dude, in Boomerang. God, he was so good in Boomerang.

JT Spangler: Yes.

Jeff: Trying to coordinate. Yeah, I had Friday as one of my top quotes. My number two is something that I say probably four times a week ah to my wife and to the detriment of my marriage.

JT Spangler: Yeah.

Jeff: Are you in black underwear? I love black underwear. um

JT Spangler: From while you were sleeping.

Jeff: And dude, yeah, and nobody knows. I mean, she knows. And I'm never going to, I guess, say that in front of anybody else. But like, she hates it.

Jeff: And I can't stop doing it.

JT Spangler: Yeah.

Jeff: Can't.

JT Spangler: I like that that's probably the only appearance from while you were sleeping in our Nathans, but but you got it in.

Jeff: Yeah, dude, I freaking, I can't, um I cannot not love that dude, that character. Awesome.

JT Spangler: Yes, it's it is well known how you feel about that character and that quote. While you were sleeping, underrated, honestly, but not heavily quotable for me.

Jeff: Yeah.

Jeff: Black underwear.

JT Spangler: My number one was from Major Pain, and again, I had a real hard time breaking it down to just one, but I ultimately went with, killing is my business, ladies, days and business is good.

Jeff: Oh, man.

JT Spangler: But there's a lot of others I could have done.

Jeff: ah

JT Spangler: If he's still in there, he ain't happy.

Jeff: I'm going to put my foot so far off your ass. The water on my knee will quench your thirst. Who does that?

JT Spangler: You like how I handle these white boys?

Jeff: for

JT Spangler: Make you feel good to see a black man run thing?

Jeff: but That's CC's favorite part for some reason.

JT Spangler: Dude, it's great.

Jeff: She loves that part because he just turns on.

JT Spangler: That was one of my favorite scenes.

Jeff: Yeah,

JT Spangler: I remember that. i Dude, i could ah in the future, I could do it i could do an Nathan's for the year and just do 20 quotes and just skip the other categories. I'd be very happy doing that.

Jeff: yeah I'm fine with that. I'm fine that. um

JT Spangler: that the The two that I didn't do that I think are iconic from the year but just aren't funny, number one is What's in the Box from Seven.

Jeff: What's in the box? Yeah.

JT Spangler: And number two is The Best Trick the Devil Ever Played Was Convincing the World He Didn't Exist from Usual Suspects.

Jeff: Yeah.

JT Spangler: I think real real critics are probably be forced to mention those. I also had They May Take Our Lives But They'll Never Take Our Freedom.

Jeff: Yeah.

JT Spangler: But those aren't fun quotes. I don't say those.

Jeff: Yeah. That's what i was going say. i so my honorable mention that i wanted to just throw out there is that kid is back on the escalator again.

JT Spangler: Back on the escalator.

Jeff: um

JT Spangler: Dude, i could ah I could do a bunch of mall rat quotes. Schooner is a sailboat, stupid head.

Jeff: Yeah, dude, every time somebody brings up Franco's, I say that. i Dude, i um i didn't I didn't have any of the really good, like, critically acclaimed quotes.

Jeff: My number one was from Friday. It's the, why it work today? I got fired yesterday. I thought you had the day off yesterday. I did. Said it got me on tape stealing boxes. Stealing boxes? What are you trying to build a clubhouse?

JT Spangler: How do you fired on your day off? Stealing boxes. You know I ain't. Dude, your sister-in-law, baby cousin Tracy, you goddamn liar. that's ah That's a Friday quote that gets a lot of rotation.

Jeff: I need to borrow your car right quick. What?

JT Spangler: And dude, even like Tommy Boy, like, bees, your firearms are useless against them. Dude, there's so many.

Jeff: Oh,

JT Spangler: That's when the horse come in, shaking their fanny for the menfolk. I like ah her idea.

Jeff: I'm like, I heard it. Yeah, dude, there's so many quotes. um The problem is, is we are both quote heavy people and we grew up in that timeframe where like, that's how we interacted with each other.

JT Spangler: Yeah, before there were memes that you could text to people, you just said quotes to people.

Jeff: So it's perfect for us. Right.

JT Spangler: If you just saw them pass and you just shout a quote to them and they knew that you were friends.

Jeff: Right.

Jeff: Exactly. Some people like to draw the ichthys in the sand. So, you know, they're Christian. I like to say, Hey, you went back on the whiz just to see how,

Jeff: if they're the same as me. um

JT Spangler: Oh, man.

Jeff: Yeah. Great quotes. Great quotes. What about soundtracks? Did you have trouble with that? Because I did a little. I mean, i figure I figured it out because I had to go back and look.

JT Spangler: ah ah went I went and went more soundtrack than score because the scores from this year, there was only a couple that I really liked.

Jeff: Right, right, right.

JT Spangler: ah Number five for me is a goofy movie just for the two Tevin Campbell songs.

Jeff: Number five for me is a goofy movie as well.

JT Spangler: on On the strength of those performances, it got into the top five.

Jeff: Yeah, and rightfully so. I'm not joking. 40 times at least in the last couple weeks.

JT Spangler: Those songs are incredible, man. I mean, what are talking about?

Jeff: Yeah. Yeah.

JT Spangler: and Number four for me as Tommy Boy, not for the score so much, but the soundtrack for Tommy Boy slaps.

Jeff: Yeah,

JT Spangler: It's great.

Jeff: I remember some of those songs, but it didn't make It didn't it.

JT Spangler: Yeah.

Jeff: I went with... um i went with ah

Jeff: where's it oh there it is good shorty get shorty is what i went with uh yeah dude it had tons of freaking jams on it and a lot of like old songs and at first when i was watching it and i remember i was talking about this i was like oh man this doesn't really fit this movie very well but then i realized no it definitely doesn't like booker t and the mgs and like uh green onions and all that stuff and

JT Spangler: Oh, get shorty. That was a good one too.

JT Spangler: Yeah.

JT Spangler: Yeah, totally does.

Jeff: it was It was good. It was good.

JT Spangler: Yeah.

Jeff: So I threw that in as my number four.

JT Spangler: But dude, wait, that's a good call. But Tommy boy, if I read you like some of these songs, when I read you like, like Patsy Cline crazy, I remember what part of the movie that happened.

Jeff: Yeah. Yeah, me too.

JT Spangler: And what about I'm Sorry, Brenda Lee, when they're they're in the frigging diner and his face is all sweet.

Jeff: The Ray Charles. Yeah.

JT Spangler: Some of the songs went so well with the, like, dude, come on, Eileen.

Jeff: Yeah.

Jeff: Yeah, it was perfect. Yeah.

JT Spangler: It's the end of the world as I know it. Heirs 2. ah

Jeff: Yeah.

JT Spangler: Wait, Ray Charles, what'd I say? Ain't too proud to beg.

Jeff: Oh, yeah, that was at the wedding.

JT Spangler: Yeah, that's some great some great stuff on the Tommy Boy soundtrack.

Jeff: Yeah.

JT Spangler: And Get Shorty, was ah that was a good call too. um Number three for me is Empire Records. The soundtrack made more money than the movie. It's fantastic.

Jeff: Nice. We all know how I feel about Empire Records. It was meh.

JT Spangler: Yeah. You feel medium about it.

Jeff: Yeah. i It's hard for me to get behind a lot of alternative music, and it felt like that was a lot of that.

JT Spangler: It's not my, it's not my stuff, but it's, it's a great soundtrack.

Jeff: Yeah.

JT Spangler: And I love that movie, dude. It's, I love an ensemble comedy. There's nothing like it. All the girls in there are like ridiculously hot. It's quotable. Like I still say happy Rex Manning day.

Jeff: Yeah. Yeah.

JT Spangler: Uh, I don't need, i don't feel the need to explain my art to you, Warren. Like I, it's, uh, that's some good shit, man.

Jeff: Yeah.

Jeff: Yeah, it is.

JT Spangler: That's number three for me.

Jeff: Yeah, number three for me is Toy Story. You've got a friend in me.

JT Spangler: Yeah.

Jeff: It's got, it's just Randy Newman being Randy Newman.

JT Spangler: Yeah, Randy, dude, I should have put that on there because that Randy Newman, that's, that's some, some really top notch, top notch work in a year that there's not really a bunch of great soundtracks.

Jeff: Yeah.

JT Spangler: Cause I only have two scores.

Jeff: Yeah.

JT Spangler: like I could have got that in there, but yeah, number ah two for me is bad boys. Mark Mancino.

Jeff: ah dan du du No, wait, that's...

JT Spangler: And that's why, dude, because I can still remember it.

Jeff: a

JT Spangler: Anytime I want to, I can go, like, I can't do that for, like, Superman, because I might do Indiana Jones by mistake.

Jeff: No, when I try to do Superman, I go into Star Wars. But Indiana Jones I got every time. Yeah.

JT Spangler: Indiana Jones yeah.

Jeff: i for Bad Boys for me, I get confused with speed. That's the same dude, right?

JT Spangler: Yeah.

Jeff: Yeah.

JT Spangler: Same guy. And like, that's why I said, like he, it's really similar to the soundtrack for speed that bump, bump, bump, the orchestral stab, like synth parts.

Jeff: Yeah.

JT Spangler: But if I'm doing that, it's one of those two movies.

Jeff: Yeah. um Yeah, Bad Boys is good. I put that as number one because it's so memorable for me.

JT Spangler: Nice.

Jeff: um

JT Spangler: Wait, so what's number two?

Jeff: Number two for me is Casino.

JT Spangler: Nice. Yeah, that was a good one.

Jeff: Wall to wall jams. um

JT Spangler: Yeah.

Jeff: I, I wanted to put something, i wanted to put something else, but I started looking through the thing and I was like, I didn't have like a Louis Prima song on there. It had like a lot of those types things. It had like Uchi Gucci Man, like a frigging Muddy Waters. It had Otis Redding. It had all kinds of stuff like that. So I put that as number number two.

Jeff: um Cause dude, it was good. And I felt like it fit, it fit the timeframe and it fit the movie perfectly.

JT Spangler: Yeah.

Jeff: And I loved it.

JT Spangler: Yeah. And it's a lot of soundtrack. Like there's some scores that were really good that I didn't put in there. Like seven had a really good score, super dark.

Jeff: Yeah.

JT Spangler: I'm trying to think who else had a really good score.

Jeff: Weird.

JT Spangler: But the number one for me was Braveheart. This was James Horner doing work. It was freaking so good.

Jeff: Yeah.

JT Spangler: James Horner scored six films in 95, including Braveheart and Apollo 13. Like, dude was killing it.

Jeff: I remember for me, um i wanted to put...

Jeff: the Batman forever. But then I started thinking it's not the Batman forever. Isn't the saw like that doesn't have the score thing that I want.

JT Spangler: The Danny Elfman.

Jeff: Like those first. Yeah. Those first two really did. But this one, this one didn't have it.

JT Spangler: I know. The Joel Schumacher, Batmans, they thing mixed it up. Batman? Doesn't matter. um Also, Major Pain and Bye Bye Love both had really good soundtracks. I didn't get them in there either.

Jeff: Yeah. I got for the, for the best song. Did you do the best song?

JT Spangler: But yeah, i got Best Song.

Jeff: Okay, because I threw some stuff in there from that. Yeah.

JT Spangler: Yeah. You to that one now

Jeff: yeah Yeah, sure, sure.

JT Spangler: Best song, the number five for me best song is Bye Bye Love, Everly Brothers from the movie Bye Bye Love.

Jeff: Nice. From the bone, yeah.

JT Spangler: Because that's my joint, dude, and it's the movie's named Bye Bye Love, and it's right at the beginning. They're pulling into the McDonald's. It's the freaking handoff scene with the divorced couples. Just perfect. It's a perfect song. It's perfect open.

Jeff: You look good, Claire.

JT Spangler: I love it.

Jeff: um What?

JT Spangler: you look You look good too.

Jeff: i sir um Dude, there is literally nobody else in the 8 billion people on this planet that are quoting that movie.

JT Spangler: Not the the shape of the eyes, the shape.

JT Spangler: oh

Jeff: Literally, like we're doing something new here.

JT Spangler: Oh man.

Jeff: Number five for me is um

JT Spangler: Yeah.

Jeff: When Nia Long jogs past, they play a Rose Royce song. I want to get next to you. The dun, dun, dun, dun.

JT Spangler: Yeah. Mm-hmm.

Jeff: Sitting here in this chair.

JT Spangler: From Friday.

Jeff: Yeah. um

JT Spangler: That's black in a berry to s sweet the juice. Yeah, she blacked it in a motherfucker.

Jeff: There was a big, you remember we had the very best of big in, and it was all of the discs that he just left.

JT Spangler: Yes.

Jeff: And I was going through there was Ronnie Henson was the guy's name did a copy of the, a version of this unbelievable.

JT Spangler: Yeah.

JT Spangler: um remember it.

Jeff: Uh, and when I heard it, when we did Friday, I was like, Oh yeah, that's going to be in the end of the year thing. Uh, Rose Royce kills it. Car wash people, the same, same people, uh, kill it.

JT Spangler: Yeah. Yeah.

Jeff: That's my number five. Um, what's your number four?

JT Spangler: My number four ah is I Will by Ben Taylor from the end of Bye Bye Love.

Jeff: That's what i that's, that's my number four also.

JT Spangler: I didn't, I didn't mean to do two songs from Bye Bye Love, but I just like, i love both them.

Jeff: Cause he sounds so much like James.

JT Spangler: That opens and closes the movie in those, those are both amazing moments.

Jeff: Yeah. And that's an old Beatles song or yeah.

JT Spangler: It's a Beatles song. Yeah.

Jeff: um And he sounds so much like his dad.

JT Spangler: Do something just like him.

Jeff: And his other, so Ben Taylor's other stuff doesn't sound like folksy like that. It's more heavy rock stuff.

JT Spangler: No.

Jeff: And dude, he killed that. put it for number four also.

JT Spangler: ah I can't imagine being a musician and your parents are James Taylor and Carly Simon.

Jeff: it's just fantastic.

Jeff: Yeah. you I bet the bars sit pretty high.

JT Spangler: Yeah.

Jeff: I mean, he's good, but he and his parents don't.

JT Spangler: Yeah, it's like Brian McKnight's son. It's like, they're doing okay, but their dad's Brian McKnight. That's tough. They're probably not going to get to that level. It's like Michael Jordan's kids.

Jeff: I feel like there's a lot of people that say their dad's Brian McKnight.

JT Spangler: Yeah.

Jeff: I could be wrong. I don't know.

JT Spangler: what's what's your What's your third?

Jeff: um Number three for me is you've got a friend in me, Randy Newman.

JT Spangler: It's another great call, man. I really skipped over Toy Story, and I've listened to that song nine billion times because my kid loves Toy Story.

Jeff: Yeah. freaking It's really good. It's hard for me not to hear it in the family guy. Pretty lady picks up an apple, wipes it on a shirt foist.

Jeff: Takes a bite of the apple. um

JT Spangler: Oh, God.

Jeff: But I do love... ah i love me some Randy Newman. Short people.

JT Spangler: Yeah.

Jeff: CC loves that jam.

JT Spangler: Yeah, man.

Jeff: It's fantastic.

JT Spangler: Randy Newman's incredible. That's one of my favorite songs of Randy Newman, not a big Randy Newman guy. Typically the third one I have is never loved a man.

Jeff: Yeah.

JT Spangler: Aretha Franklin from major pain.

Jeff: that do That whole album that that's from is fantastic.

JT Spangler: It's a great album, but it's also, I'm thinking like I'm putting it in the context of the movie.

Jeff: It's got a bunch...

JT Spangler: Like i if I play the song in my head, I can remember in the movie when that happens and it's just fricking perfect timing.

Jeff: Oh, yeah.

Jeff: um i Dude, that, ah for real, that that album really is good. It's got respect on it.

JT Spangler: Yeah, dude.

Jeff: Drown in my own tears. Baby, baby, baby. God, Aretha's awesome. Which reminds me of Cece's favorite Christmas joke this year, which was, what do you call a Christmas wreath made of $100 bills?

JT Spangler: Yeah. It's Aretha Franklin.

Jeff: Aretha Franklin's. was like, get out of my room. Get out of here right now.

JT Spangler: It's good joke. It's well done.

Jeff: yeah

JT Spangler: What's what's your next song?

Jeff: ah Number two for me is from Batman. It is Kiss from a Rose by Seal.

JT Spangler: ah Damn it.

Jeff: Baby!

JT Spangler: I left that off. I left that off my list. I'm such an idiot.

Jeff: What a jam.

JT Spangler: I love that song. God, that should, that's a complete oversight on my part.

Jeff: oh

JT Spangler: Cause that is it.

Jeff: It's way good, dude.

JT Spangler: is Is, is that a Christmas song? Cause I just saw someone asking about that last week.

Jeff: I don't think that's a Christmas song now.

JT Spangler: I don't think it is either. I don't think anyone knows what it means. Cause what is a kiss from a rose on the veil? What the hell is that even talking about?

Jeff: ah He was on Beato.

JT Spangler: It doesn't matter.

Jeff: What's his name?

JT Spangler: Yeah. Yeah. Rick.

Jeff: Rick Beato. He was on his little podcast video thing on YouTube. And he was showing like, he's like, yeah, i just decided to start playing it.

JT Spangler: yeah

Jeff: And i was like, oh what if I throw this cord in there? He's yeah, i always wondered what the words mean. He's like, don't know. He's like, what do you think they mean? That's what they mean. Like, he doesn't care either.

JT Spangler: yeah it's like talking to Eddie Vedder about his lyrics. He's like, I don't know what any of that shit means. Dude, I love that. I love Rick Beato when he talks to people about the songs and he like breaks down. He's like, planes. Didn't they did this and this and this? like That's cool that he knows about music and he can talk to people.

Jeff: Yeah, he, I like also that the people that come on his show are the people who wrote the music and played it on the album.

JT Spangler: I wish I knew those things.

JT Spangler: Yeah.

Jeff: They play it in his studio while they're talking about it. And YouTube goes, that's a copyright infringement. You can't do that. And he was like, what the hell am I supposed to be doing? It's like, i I don't know.

JT Spangler: Yeah. Yeah.

Jeff: Yeah.

JT Spangler: Here, you might need to tweak the algorithm. They're allowed to play their own shit.

Jeff: Right.

JT Spangler: But because I forgot about Kiss from Rose, I got number two, Jeff's favorite, Colors of the Wind from Pocahontas.

Jeff: God, I knew you were going to put it on there.

JT Spangler: both Both Grammy and Oscar winning from the year.

Jeff: I...

JT Spangler: And I think it's a really good song.

Jeff: I... Yeah, I know you do. freaking I can pick literally any other song from this. ah That song from the Mighty Mighty Boss Tones that they play in Clueless, where Paul Rudd's dancing around like a Muppet.

JT Spangler: Also a good one.

Jeff: I'll pick that one over Color of the Wind. I don't...

JT Spangler: What's your, what's your number one song for 1995?

Jeff: I just don't like it.

JT Spangler: Does it start with an I and then with an I and have a two in the middle?

Jeff: Dude, yeah... yeah Yeah, of course it does.

JT Spangler: Mine too.

Jeff: Tevin Campbell, eye to eye. Golly, what a bop.

JT Spangler: It's probably partially because we did that at if we'd done that like in January, I don't know if we have remembered, but it's, it's such an incredible song and we just did that movie.

Jeff: Oh, I would have remembered.

Jeff: ah he Dude, Tevin's got such an awesome tone to his voice. It's great.

JT Spangler: Yeah. Put the world in motion.

Jeff: love it.

JT Spangler: Yeah, dude, it's a great song. Tevin Campbell is ridiculous.

Jeff: Killed it. um

JT Spangler: right.

Jeff: Yeah. Good songs.

JT Spangler: Let's let's do our ah our final category, our best pictures, best movies of 1995.

JT Spangler: Number five.

Jeff: but So real fast, this is, you have the top, your, your highest rated and also the movie that you thought was the best in hindsight, right?

JT Spangler: Okay.

JT Spangler: I'm not doing my highest rated necessarily. I'm just doing, if I have to rank my five favorite movies that we did from this year, I'm ranking them one to five.

Jeff: Okay, good. Okay, good.

JT Spangler: So like some stuff that's rated higher, I bumped down because I'm like, I rated it higher, but i actually i don't like it as much as this other one.

Jeff: Right, right, right.

JT Spangler: Like Major Pain is number five for me.

Jeff: Okay.

JT Spangler: It's not my fifth highest ranked movie, but if I'm picking five from 95, it's going to be on the list.

Jeff: Right.

Jeff: Got it. Okay, cool. That's awesome.

JT Spangler: So number five for me is Major Pain. I rated it eight and a half out of 10.

Jeff: Nice. um

JT Spangler: It's freaking quotable. It's hilarious. The soundtrack's awesome.

Jeff: Yeah.

JT Spangler: Damon Wayans is doing shit. Hilary Banks is in there. My God.

Jeff: We're going to learn her real name one day. um

JT Spangler: Really not.

Jeff: Parsons, Karen Parsons.

JT Spangler: Karen Parsons, you got it.

Jeff: No. Yeah. um Number five for me, only because I hadn't seen it and it was such a twist as usual suspects. I gave it a nine.

JT Spangler: Yeah, man.

Jeff: The acting's unbelievable. I know it ranked like whatever, 60 on the year, but it was a delight. I like when I can't tell where the movie's going and that's

JT Spangler: it's usual suspects is incredible. I mean, it it was, it was ranked higher than major pain. I just, uh, because I had seen it before I was not gobsmacked by the surprise.

Jeff: Right, right, right, right. That's the only, but yeah only because the twist got me, I added it to to number five.

JT Spangler: It's great, man. It's still like, if you go, if you go read any kind of like listicle thing, it's like best movie twists of all time. That's for sure. Going to be in the top three like that in like sixth sense.

Jeff: Yeah. Yeah. All those M. Night Shyamalan ding dong movies are all got the twisties.

JT Spangler: Uh, Yeah. They're all up there. They're number four.

Jeff: What'd you go with number four?

JT Spangler: Number four for me is bad boys.

Jeff: That's great. I ranked it higher.

JT Spangler: It's, it's, it's staggering that it's that low truthfully, but that's how good this year was. I got a number four.

Jeff: Yeah. No, it's a good call. i Who doesn't like bad boys? I ranked it higher than that.

JT Spangler: Yeah.

Jeff: Number four for me was Tommy Boy. um

JT Spangler: Yeah.

Jeff: If that's ever on in a room, I'm probably going to sit down and quote it until the people in that room tell me to leave. So I, I, I just had to put it in there. It's delightful.

JT Spangler: all of All of my top five are movies that if they were on, I'd be like, I'm watching this. I'm just, i don't need to.

Jeff: Right. Yeah. I just, uh, I love Tommy boy and Chris Farley.

JT Spangler: Yeah.

JT Spangler: Tommy Boy is incredible. It's higher on my list, but yes.

Jeff: Yeah.

JT Spangler: And that's one of those.

Jeff: Nice. So, so what'd you go with number three?

JT Spangler: Yeah. My number three for me is Friday.

Jeff: Great.

JT Spangler: I haven't watched it as much recently, and probably because I have a four-year-old, I won't watch it very much.

Jeff: That's it's,

JT Spangler: But when he's old enough to hear the word fuck a lot, we're going definitely get that on.

Jeff: Yeah. um Dude, what? Seriously, there are people that have never seen it, and I don't understand that.

Jeff: Like, how do you go through your whole life and not... It's not one of those, hey, you need that to get a bunch of cultural references and things like that, but man, it sure would help.

JT Spangler: Yeah.

Jeff: Like, it would make you a better person.

JT Spangler: Yeah.

Jeff: It's funny. Yeah. I don't know. Yeah, it's a great one. I'm glad you picked that one. That's my number two. So ah that's that's fantastic.

JT Spangler: Nice. What's number three for you?

Jeff: ah and Number three for me um was Toy Story. I freaking everything about animation I've always loved since I was little and then computers as well. And it's the best of both worlds. Dude, I could not put it on there.

Jeff: I love Toy Story.

JT Spangler: Yeah. on my list as well.

Jeff: It's great.

JT Spangler: Number two for me is Tommy Boy, which is like an all-time buddy comedy, an all-time road trip comedy, insanely quotable.

Jeff: Ah, nice.

Jeff: Yeah. Yeah.

JT Spangler: And again, like have like six posters on the wall in my studio where we where we record one of them as Tommy Boy. Like I freaking love that movie.

Jeff: One them's dying. Yeah. Yeah. That's fantastic. Number two for me was bad boys.

JT Spangler: Yeah.

Jeff: Cause it's great.

JT Spangler: Yeah, dude.

Jeff: um I think we're going to have a different number one though. What's your number one?

JT Spangler: My number one's Toy Story.

Jeff: That's awesome.

JT Spangler: Yeah.

Jeff: i and Do you like number two better than number one or no?

JT Spangler: Yes, I do.

Jeff: Because Jake and I had this discussion. Yeah, me too.

JT Spangler: I've always liked two better.

Jeff: ah

JT Spangler: I mean, but i i think because of that, I had underrated how good number one was when you did on the podcast.

Jeff: Number one was...

JT Spangler: was like, this is actually, i was like sleeping on it a little bit. Kind of like the first Sister Act.

Jeff: Yeah.

JT Spangler: I like Sister Act 2 so much. But I was like, ah, Sister Act 1's fine. And we watched it. I was Sister Act 1 is freaking awesome.

Jeff: Yeah, yeah, yeah. i Dude, I... Yeah. to Toy Story just great. They're making number five. it's still They're still making them.

JT Spangler: I know.

Jeff: It's going to be, yeah, great.

JT Spangler: I love it. I'm into it. ah what's ah What's your number one?

Jeff: ah Number one for me was Die Hard with a Vengeance.

JT Spangler: Nice.

Jeff: Dude, freaking love Bruce Willey and ah Samuel Jackson in that one. Just like it's the best of the whole series. I freaking love We watched part of Die Hard 1 because it's a Christmas movie.

Jeff: It was just Jake and i And i was like, dude, you're going love number three.

JT Spangler: Yeah.

Jeff: And we watched number three. And he, that was last year. He loved it. And I watched it with him. And I can't not love it. Dude, it's a freaking.

JT Spangler: It's good, dude. i like My complaint is the same as when we watched it, is that it doesn't feel like a Die Hard movie, and it's because it wasn't written to be a Die Hard movie. It was just written to be a standalone action movie, and they were like, shit, we don't have a good script for Die Hard 3.

Jeff: great.

JT Spangler: Let's just make it Die Hard. It's really good, but you could call it something else and it wouldn't change it, and that's why I like Die Hard, the original, better, even though With a Vengeance is friggin', it's great.

Jeff: You just change the title. Yeah.

Jeff: Yeah.

JT Spangler: But it could just be something else. doesn't have to be Die Hard, which like...

Jeff: Yeah. Let's just call it vengeance. And that's what we'll go with. And that's my that's my number one.

JT Spangler: Yeah, I like that. ah So we have four of the same five. We both have Toy Story, Tommy Boy, ah Bad Boys, and Friday.

Jeff: Yeah.

JT Spangler: And I have Major Pain and you have Die with a Vengeance.

Jeff: No, I have Friday. Yeah. Instead of Friday, I have usual suspects.

JT Spangler: I mean, this is... oh right, Usual Suspects. Yeah. Yeah, man. Great. And I had Honorable Mentions. I had other stuff. I rated a bunch of stuff that was eights, like Clueless, Bye Bye Love, Heat, Empire Records, Braveheart, Usual Suspects.

Jeff: I want, yeah, I wanted to put clueless in there. just, I just couldn't. Cause I, and dude, if it's on, it's one of those ones I'm watching, but like, I just kill her.

JT Spangler: Yeah. This, uh, 95, man, it was a pretty wild year for, for movies.

Jeff: Yeah. The nine six is going to bring it. I can feel it.

JT Spangler: Dude, we got I mean, yeah, I got that in my notes for like what we're about to do because it's it's it's stupid. um

Jeff: Yeah.

JT Spangler: Looking back, ah mistakes or regrets. I didn't have ah a lot really. this There was a lot of technical difficulties behind the scenes this year because we were trying to do video for all of our episodes, which kind of worked. But also the platform we were recording video through and editing was just like, they're just buggy, man.

JT Spangler: every I've tried like three of them now. They're all kind of buggy.

Jeff: They're all like that.

JT Spangler: So when it works, she' was like, dude, this is sweet.

Jeff: Yeah.

JT Spangler: We live in the future. And when it didn't work, i was like, I have just exchanged like 13 support emails and they didn't give me any answers. I hate this.

Jeff: Right. Yeah. Yes.

JT Spangler: So like, I'm just, i just want to find one where, yeah they're like, you should get a new computer.

Jeff: Have you tried turning it off and turning it back on?

JT Spangler: I was like, you should fuck yourself. I'm not buying a new, why don't you just make your shit work? Um, They're like, cause they'll just go like, I don't know. looks seems fine over here. We're going on break. Like, dude, just make this shit work.

JT Spangler: Um, but I think they just kind of all are like that.

Jeff: Right.

JT Spangler: Um, and then Patreon, we fell a little behind.

Jeff: Yeah.

JT Spangler: Like you got really busy. I was already pretty busy and we were just like, dude, just keep the main feed going. Like we're just going to like punt on some of the Patreon stuff we really wanted to do.

Jeff: Yeah, there was a lot we wanted to do.

JT Spangler: Um, So that was a bummer, but I thought it's better to do the main feed instead of trying to do both and end up doing neither. So Patreon folks that are like supporting the arts over there, we very much appreciate it.

Jeff: Right, right.

JT Spangler: And we will still keep doing Patreon stuff. We just got to find some space for it.

Jeff: Yeah, the only mistake that I had written down is because it's video, my students ask me why I pick my nose all the time. so I'm going to try to stop scratching my nose as much.

Jeff: ah So, yeah, that's my only thing.

JT Spangler: Yeah. I don't think it's a mistake or a regret, but I will say that doing video made me realize i only own like three t-shirts. So it looks like we've shot all the entire year at the same time. It's just because I only, I got, I just got, there's not, i don't have lot clothes.

Jeff: Yeah, who needs clothes?

JT Spangler: Wardrobe's pretty slim. I don't have a snazzy ah Oscars blazer like you do.

Jeff: Right.

Jeff: this This is my Nathan's blazer. um You could tell it's about hot dogs too, because it doesn't button in the front anymore.

JT Spangler: Well, we also, I added a category for, uh, things that we're proud of it just because we just finished five seasons of this thing, which means we've been doing this for five years.

Jeff: Great.

JT Spangler: Uh, the average podcast lasts seven episodes and in five years we've never missed a release date.

Jeff: That's crazy. me

JT Spangler: So I'm pretty proud of that.

Jeff: Yeah, that's friggin awesome.

JT Spangler: Uh, I think that's, think that's actually kind of incredible, especially given both of our schedules and the fact that we're never sitting in the same room when we do this.

Jeff: um

Jeff: Same room. That's what I was going to say. The fact that we're across the frigging country. That's that's the part I like.

JT Spangler: Yeah.

Jeff: um

JT Spangler: Yeah, and like, ah you know, when when the technology works, I'm also still having a lot of fun and I'm really enjoying the movies and I cannot freaking wait for the movies that we have coming in 96 and Like there's, I mean, we got four more incredible years of movies in the 90s.

Jeff: Yeah.

Jeff: Yeah. Yeah, like when I asked that kid if he liked The Matrix, and he said, that movie that from the 1900s?

JT Spangler: Yeah, dude, exactly.

Jeff: And I wanted to murder him.

JT Spangler: Yeah.

Jeff: ah Dude, also, ah speaking of being proud, we're in 116 different countries, by the way. I mean, obviously, us s and Canada are big ones.

JT Spangler: Yeah, man.

Jeff: But, dude, we're everywhere. That's crazy to me.

JT Spangler: Worldwide, bitches. Like Jay-Z.

Jeff: That's freaking crazy. Like, there's 19 people in Kenya that's listened to the last 10 podcasts? Get out of here. Get out of here.

JT Spangler: ah Can you believe it? That seems like it's got to be someone trying to figure out a way to scam us.

Jeff: Well, I did send him some money.

JT Spangler: Can't.

Jeff: that

JT Spangler: okay you did Are you supporting a Nigerian prince? That's not Kenya. That's a whole different country. Kenya, if you are listening, please email and tell us how you found this podcast and whether or not you guys are big on 90s movies.

Jeff: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Tell us. Tell us what's up. You too, Algeria. Get back to us.

JT Spangler: um

Jeff: 16 Algerians.

JT Spangler: I mean, yeah, ah do know which I'm trying to figure out which what we should do for the first 96 movie.

Jeff: I mean, do we start off with like one of our favorites or do we start off with like something that's really popular or.

JT Spangler: should we Should we talk about it?

Jeff: I mean, I don't want to start with like Kazam with Shaq or something like that. You know what I'm saying? Like, I feel like we should do something big.

JT Spangler: Yeah.

JT Spangler: Yeah. Well, i think I think a big movie that we'll like that won't really take a ton of prep time would be Twister.

Jeff: Ooh, Twister's there? Oh, forgot about Twister. um Yeah, that's a good call.

JT Spangler: So yeah, let's just go let's just go ahead and announce that our first episode of 96 will be Twister.

Jeff: Let's start with Twister.

JT Spangler: Don't don't watch Twisters by mistake because we're not doing that one for quite a while.

Jeff: They put an S on the end like aliens? I didn't even realize that.

JT Spangler: Yes.

Jeff: Of course they did.

JT Spangler: Yes, they did. Because there's more than one Twister. and They're trying to be accurate.

Jeff: Of course they are. Why would they want to not be accurate? She touched my

JT Spangler: and In a movie that has CGI cows being flown across the screen. um Yeah, man.

Jeff: She touched my peppy Steve. I can't believe we get to do that.

JT Spangler: I'm going to eat a dolphin.

Jeff: Maybe

JT Spangler: I can't wait, man. 96 is going to be amazing. We've got to figure out what order we're going to movies in, but I'm super excited. um

Jeff: I'll start working on my list.

JT Spangler: Yeah, man. Thank you guys for listening. Happy holidays. We'll see it in a week or two for the start of our 96 season with Twister.

Jeff: Twister hard are not twist.

JT Spangler: Twister. Yeah. Bye.

Jeff: Uh, by condos.

Jeff: Short sleeves under my jacket makes me look like a magician.
