JT Spangler: Famous for steak burgers.
JT Spangler: only twelve Your talent, my knowledge, you could be a champion. Okay. from the idiots that brung you dumb and dumber. Woody Harrelson.
Jeff: Broaden you?
JT Spangler: Randy Craig. Vanessa Angel. Is anyone else home? I'll take a couple jokes. Mike. Bill Murray. Watch the door. There's this little voice in my head the moment somebody's gonna do me wrong.
JT Spangler: pin Sometimes there's a five -second delay. Ready PG -13 starts Friday, July 12th. and
Jeff: um Did you say brung you?
JT Spangler: Yeah. From the idiots, what what brung you, dumb and dumber?
Jeff: Awesome.
Jeff: Nice. Nice.
JT Spangler: ah Which is truthfully is a great tagline for 1996.
Jeff: Yeah. Um...
Jeff: I... I thought I remembered something different about this movie.
JT Spangler: I was wondering what you remembered about this movie because my wife was like, That movie seems like it would be terrible. I go, yeah, it was terrible. She goes, why'd you guys do that? I was like, I don't know. Jeff wanted to do it.
Jeff: Dude, I love Woody Harrelson.
JT Spangler: Ever do that.
Jeff: I love... Bill Murray.
JT Spangler: Yeah.
Jeff: And I remember the last part. as the main part.
JT Spangler: Here's the thing dude. This is This has all the ingredients. Like, you should be able to make a hilarious 30 -second trailer. You've got great. comedic actors you've got. The Farrelly brothers, who just did Dumb and Dumber, wrote and directed.
Jeff: Right. Right.
JT Spangler: It's... And it's like, oh, dude, a Bolin movie, the guy loses his hand. Like, I can, all of these bits, like.
Jeff: Right.
JT Spangler: They work in other movies like the freaking.
Jeff: Yeah, yeah
JT Spangler: from Happy Gilmore who lost his hand. That shit was hilarious. and
Jeff: Right.
JT Spangler: The Amish guy going to... i'm gonna milk the cow it's like we don't have a cow we have a bull like i've seen all of that It has worked.
Jeff: Yeah. All of those jokes are things. Yeah.
JT Spangler: And it then then this one that didn't.
Jeff: Well, dude, they so the Farrelly brothers went on to do.
JT Spangler: For me.
Jeff: Like something about Mary and shallow hell and all the jams.
JT Spangler: About me? Yeah.
Jeff: That's why I... I had this one higher in my head.
JT Spangler: I don't remember when the last time I saw it was. But I was like, you could tell when it's a comedy. And the comedy's not happening. You're like 40 minutes in. You're like, this is going to be fucking brutal. i was like I was already in a bad mood, so that's not the movie's fault, but I was like, these motherfuckers.
Jeff: Oh, dude, I had the same problem because I didn't I was like, well, I'm recording it today. I better watch it. So on my off hour today, I was like. grading papers and i was like let me just pause this and finish the last 40 minutes of the movie and when i pulled it up on plex i realized that i could change the speed like Like Will listened to a podcast? I watched the last part of it in 1 .5 speed and I realized that was the best part.
JT Spangler: Yeah.
Jeff: of the whole movie and I should have watched that one in regular speed.
JT Spangler: Well, it's the cool it's the cool thing about comedies is like if you're watching a comedy and you don't laugh. ah You get mad at the movie. or the comedian. And if you're watching like a romantic comedy and you don't buy the romance, you might go like, I don't know.
JT Spangler: Maybe I didn't. I didn't like that. character but i wasn't
Jeff: Right. But...
JT Spangler: Feeling it.
Jeff: The gel, right.
JT Spangler: Yeah. But people like, dude, check out this clip of this guy. And I'm like that. Guys. Sucks. like
Jeff: Yeah.
JT Spangler: They don't suck. I just didn't think it was funny. But yeah for comedy, if if it was funny, I would have been laughing.
Jeff: Right.
JT Spangler: I can tell that I'm not. Um,
Jeff: Right.
JT Spangler: Movie Life Crisis. Season six, episode 19.
JT Spangler: Amen.
Jeff: Oh man. Ah. Now I'm kind of glad we did this.
JT Spangler: The one... woman The one and only Boland movie ever made.
Jeff: Huh?
JT Spangler: Um,
Jeff: Was there other bothering movies? No, huh?
JT Spangler: I'm sure there were boldly documentaries.
Jeff: I don't know. of it
JT Spangler: or bowling for Columbine, but like, I don't think.
Jeff: Hmm.
JT Spangler: There was another, I can't think of another Bolan movie.
Jeff: Um,
JT Spangler: Another reason why it should have worked like dude uh Cheerleader movie. That's funny. Bring it on. Fucking hilarious. Uh,
Jeff: Wait.
JT Spangler: both movie wise.
Jeff: Does Big Lebowski count as a bowling movie? No.
JT Spangler: Well. i don't know it's it certainly is funnier than this and then features a lot of wool
Jeff: I'll do it for sure. For sure.
JT Spangler: Yeah.
Jeff: Um, For reals, like you said, I remember what's -his -name being Amish and sitting in the urinal. I remember him losing his hand.
JT Spangler: Yeah.
Jeff: and the rubber hand and the the joke where he's like what about this you like this and they're like What, the rubber hand? He's like, no, the ring. And then at the end, they...
JT Spangler: Yeah.
Jeff: freaking swap the joke.
JT Spangler: with it.
Jeff: Like I remember those being funny. And then I watched it this time and it turns out it wasn't.
JT Spangler: I mean, if you... told me in 2026 if this movie didn't exist if we just deleted it from history which i'm fine with If you told me the Farrelly brothers are going to make a movie.
Jeff: Right.
JT Spangler: about bowling. It's got Woody Harrelson and Bill Murray. I would be like, that sounds fucking incredible. Like I can't.
Jeff: Right.
JT Spangler: to see that.
Jeff: Um,
JT Spangler: and they And they messed, I don't know how they messed it up, but they messed it up.
Jeff: yeah ah but here's the thing uh all the stuff i'm reading online people really liked it
JT Spangler: Dude.
Jeff: And it got...
JT Spangler: Ebert gave it like three and a half stars. People said it was one of the best movies of the year. I don't. know how. That happened.
Jeff: ah
JT Spangler: I read Vulture said this is the second best movie Woody Harrelson's ever done. I wanted to find who wrote that Vulture article and send him an email when I read that.
Jeff: but Um... Yeah, dude, I don't Don't know I wasn't i In my mind, going into it, I was very excited.
Jeff: Dude, Will was in town. Oh, by the way, guess what he brought me?
JT Spangler: What?
Jeff: Some 10K.
JT Spangler: 10K thirst quencher.
Jeff: 10K, there's quite, we need a, this is still a thing now. And now they don't put coloring in it.
JT Spangler: Yeah.
Jeff: And the orange and the lemon lime tastes just as good.
JT Spangler: Nice.
Jeff: We should be sponsored. By 10K, we're repping.
JT Spangler: I know. Oui.
Jeff: No. No. Will was here. We watched like the first 30 minutes. He was like, all right, I think I'm going to go. He decided not to hang out.
JT Spangler: laed Dusty Trail.
Jeff: He decided not to hang out because the option was watching this movie. Um,
JT Spangler: i Get that.
Jeff: Yeah. Me too.
JT Spangler: Yeah dude. All right. Give us a synopsis.
Jeff: Um, A washed up one -handed bowler. Woody Harrelson. It takes a naive Amish prodigy. which is Randy Quaid on a chaotic road trip to Reno.
JT Spangler: Yeah.
Jeff: to try to win a million dollars.
JT Spangler: Yeah.
Jeff: A million dollars, Mitch.
JT Spangler: A million dollars.
Jeff: Amen, guys.
JT Spangler: A little louder, Phil. Dude, can you think of a worse? Casting. For an Amish person in 1996 and ninety ninety six than Randy Quaid, knowing what we know about Randy Quaid.
Jeff: Yeah, no, that doesn't that doesn't fit at all.
JT Spangler: You know, he's such an incredible actor. ever It'll work.
Jeff: Yeah. Um, you know what really freaked me out when he was uh in full makeup and a bra and panties
JT Spangler: Yeah.
Jeff: they kept The camera kept staying on his face. It was freaking me out. um i saw that they wanted to have chris uh chris farley do this and he just couldn't
JT Spangler: Yeah.
Jeff: I think a chubby Chris Farley as an Amish person would have been funny.
JT Spangler: That would have been funny. i I saw that too. And I was like, do that alternate casting. It wouldn't have saved this movie, but it would have been.
Jeff: Now I win them.
JT Spangler: Way funnier.
Jeff: Yeah.
JT Spangler: And it's not like Randy Quaid was bad. It's just like, who thought Randy Quaid as the Amish guy was the move? And also, who thought vaness ah Vanessa, what's her name?
Jeff: Yeah.
JT Spangler: As the lead, Vanessa Angel.
Jeff: Angel?
JT Spangler: Who the hell is that?
Jeff: Yeah.
JT Spangler: It's...
Jeff: Um,
JT Spangler: she's not attractive because she obviously is, but I'm like, we're talking about 96. We couldn't have gotten someone. Are we going to get someone doing that?
Jeff: I don't I don't know, dude. Fairly Brothers, they made a lot of... They made a lot of movies after this, so maybe they had... pulled to do that kind of stuff, but...
JT Spangler: I wonder.
Jeff: I don't know at this point.
JT Spangler: Yeah.
Jeff: Maybe they couldn't.
JT Spangler: I don't know. I'm curious about that too, because Dumb and Dumber is obviously an incredibly large. Huge movie for 94 launches Jim Carrey.
Jeff: Yeah.
JT Spangler: in the year of Jim Carrey. And then this is an absolute tank.
Jeff: Yeah.
JT Spangler: It's $25 million dollars budget, $32 million dollars gross. it's It's finished. the year ahead of so many better movies it's like right ahead of the craft which who cares but it's also ahead of fargo it's at a sling blade it's ahead of like freaking We've done on the podcast.
Jeff: Amen.
JT Spangler: that like multiplicity and like shit that we really like.
Jeff: Yeah.
JT Spangler: But clearly the studio was like, hey, you know, it's me and a mess. But like, let's give him another shot. And then the the next shot is there's something about Mary.
Jeff: Yeah. And they, i dude, I remember that being funny too. So I don't. I don't know if it's gonna still...
JT Spangler: Sure. I don't think it's gonna be as funny as Dumb and Dumber, but I'm sure it's going to be funnier than this.
Jeff: Right. Um... It's gotta be, right? i also I also read that the Farrelly brothers...
JT Spangler: Yeah.
Jeff: um They... We're like, oh, this is opening during the Summer Olympics. And then there was the Summer Olympics bombing. And they were like, oh.
JT Spangler: Yeah.
Jeff: Um, we're We're not going to make our money back now that there was a bombing during the Olympics. Is that?
JT Spangler: Right.
Jeff: Is that how that works?
JT Spangler: Yeah, dude, I don't I mean the important part The most important part of the 96 Olympics in Atlanta is not the bombing. You know what the most important part is.
Jeff: The... The Bowling. I don't know.
JT Spangler: the Babyface produced Olympic album.
Jeff: The... Oh, yeah. Rhythm of the games.
JT Spangler: Rhythm of the games.
Jeff: Yeah. To dream the impossible dream.
JT Spangler: Featuring Tevin Campbell doing The Impossible Dream, Boyz II Men singing the Star -Spangled Banner, and a whole bunch of other bangers. um
Jeff: Yeah.
JT Spangler: Sponsored. by that. Yeah. If y 'all don't remember the games, y 'all should.
Jeff: Yeah.
JT Spangler: Instagram should show me a post about remember Rhythm of the Games from 96. I would click on that.
Jeff: Yeah, it's not going to though.
JT Spangler: uh
Jeff: Nobody remembers that.
JT Spangler: All right, I'm going to make that post then. I don't... I'm assuming there's no awards unless they racked up some Razzies.
Jeff: Um... So, all right, two things. One is ah it's got 69 % on the audience thing on Rotten Tomatoes when I clicked on it. Um,
JT Spangler: There's some bowling fans out there.
Jeff: That. That.
JT Spangler: There's got to be some bowling fans that just get shithand and just watch this over and over again.
Jeff: and
JT Spangler: With Bigelow.
Jeff: uh apparently the bowling was like really well done like you know how we always talk about the football looks real in the football movies apparently the bowling looks real
JT Spangler: Yeah.
JT Spangler: I saw.
Jeff: um
JT Spangler: I already go over the line a couple times. I was like, that's foul.
Jeff: Yeah.
JT Spangler: How do we do that?
Jeff: Yeah.
JT Spangler: Or how do the rules work? But no, you're not allowed to cross the line.
Jeff: What about the one hand going out like that? I think I'm going to start bowling like that. I mean, I don't ever go bowling, but when I do, that's what I'm definitely.
JT Spangler: In the next 10 years, if I bowl again, I'll try and remember that.
Jeff: Yeah, that's the way. I don't have any awards. i just In the awards, I only put... uh 69 from that and i had jane siskel top one of the best 10 films of 96 because
JT Spangler: Amen.
Jeff: That guy's an idiot.
JT Spangler: Yeah. He should be embarrassed about that.
Jeff: What is this?
JT Spangler: um I mean that.
Jeff: Dude, maybe he really likes bowling. Heard something.
JT Spangler: he should be He should be rolling in his urn. um The sequels and spinoffs to this movie so bad I didn't even get to direct a video. Uh, sequel.
Jeff: ah Dude, it's apparently still open. As as late as 2021, though. They still have it on the table somewhere. It hasn't been shut down completely.
JT Spangler: Yeah. ah Randy Quaid's not coming back because he's getting more and more crazy on the internet.
Jeff: Yeah.
JT Spangler: Did you see?
Jeff: Um,
JT Spangler: Posting about the Days of Thunder announcement.
Jeff: No, but I do. I did saw that the Days of Thunder was coming out, but I didn't see what he said.
JT Spangler: tom per announced days of thunder 2 and anna hathaway announcing it with him and she's pregnant The movie doesn't come out for like two or three years.
Jeff: Yeah. Right.
JT Spangler: so clearly when the movie comes out, she will be not pregnant and will look like.
Jeff: Right.
JT Spangler: regular smoking hot Anne Hathaway. and randy
Jeff: Yeah.
JT Spangler: It was in. the original days of thunder started firing off angry missiles on twitter about how she's pregnant and this is how the woke left ruins movies and everyone should call him to be in it and i was like dude this is why you're not working It can't be. Firing shots at Tom Cruise on Twitter.
JT Spangler: Because the pregnant woman is going to promote the movie.
Jeff: Uh...
JT Spangler: When the pregnant woman is Oscar winner Anne Hathaway, let her do what she wants.
Jeff: Um, Yeah, i I like how she's in everything trying to save Hollywood.
JT Spangler: Yeah.
Jeff: um I like Days of Thunder a whole lot.
JT Spangler: Good for her.
Jeff: um so
JT Spangler: I tried to get you to do it for the podcast, Robin.
Jeff: I know.
JT Spangler: Harry, but it was 91.
Jeff: Robbins Racing.
JT Spangler: We only did like 12 movies. We missed a lot.
Jeff: Yeah, I know Yeah, we did. We did.
JT Spangler: Lost a lot of good men out there. um
Jeff: Mm hmm. Oh, absolutely.
JT Spangler: I don't remember when I saw this movie. I know it was in the 90s but I have no recollection.
Jeff: I definitely saw this on, I didn't see it in the theater. Um, I don't think anybody did
JT Spangler: No.
Jeff: ah It made like $5 million. dollars So i don't I don't know. um I don't remember seeing this. except on dvd or something i have it on dvd so that must have been now
JT Spangler: Okay.
Jeff: Like it was in there.
JT Spangler: All i think you um I think you gaslit yourself into thinking this is funny because you owned it and you've just been looking at the cover for a long time. you're like It seems like it's going to be funny.
Jeff: yeah i don't know Those are under my bed. i never i just When we go to do the movie, I pull out the little thing. I get to the... d the um the K's for Kingpin. And I'm like, yep, there it is. All right, I got it. It's out of the plastic, so I watched it.
JT Spangler: Let's peel the trigger off of this.
Jeff: Or somebody I know.
JT Spangler: blow the dust off our DVD player and get this thing going.
Jeff: Yeah.
JT Spangler: um Alright, man. How do you rate it? One to 10, no sevens allowed.
Jeff: Well, this landed directly in. No, it didn't land in the sevens. This is four and a half for me. um
JT Spangler: Yeah. it's landed right
Jeff: If it comes.
JT Spangler: I'm glad fours are allowed.
Jeff: Yeah. Yeah, if it comes up if it comes up like ah Jake's like, hey, what's this movie about? Can we watch this? This looks funny. I might sit there just so I can see him cringe through the whole thing.
Jeff: um But I'm not going to try to, I probably won't ever watch it again.
JT Spangler: No, I won. Never watch it again unless someone wants to watch it again and they don't mind if I play my PlayStation Portal. ah while they watch it. And I'm in the same room.
Jeff: ah Yeah. Yeah, I don't... um Yeah, no, I'm not going to watch this one.
JT Spangler: I got it. four out I got a 4 out of 10.
Jeff: Nice.
JT Spangler: Dude, it's... I was like, All right, it's 114 minutes long. It's boring. It's poorly cast. It's poorly directed. It's poorly acted. It's poorly written. Even for the Farrelly brothers, the humor is really lowbrow.
JT Spangler: Dit. And the only thing that this movie has fewer of than jokes. is seatbelts. And like,
Jeff: Oh, nobody was worth it.
JT Spangler: third driving around in a convertible. and I was like, does anyone wear fucking seatbelts? I'm like, the Amish guy doesn't have a seatbelt on. He's standing.
Jeff: Dude, they were standing.
JT Spangler: Convert.
Jeff: Yeah, what was that? I don't remember any of this.
JT Spangler: Yeah.
Jeff: I wouldn't have picked this movie. I would never eat here.
JT Spangler: Bye.
Jeff: Um,
JT Spangler: Yeah. And dude, we... people who listen know we don't pick movies that we don't like on purpose because that's not this. The podcast isn't for us to shit on movies. is The podcast is for us.
Jeff: Yeah.
JT Spangler: We talk highly of movies that no one else even likes.
Jeff: Right.
JT Spangler: Uh. But sometimes we make a mistake and we watch a movie and we're like, well, that sucked. I guess we...
Jeff: yeah oops Oopsies.
JT Spangler: to say it.
Jeff: Oopsie daisies.
JT Spangler: I'm going to go to the young kid. um
Jeff: Um...
JT Spangler: Yeah. So. you know. Hello.
Jeff: It happens.
JT Spangler: Lot of scenes. So if we're going to do the best, I only have two scenes.
Jeff: Cool. I... um I only have two also. Well, I do. No, it is two. I only have two.
JT Spangler: Cool.
Jeff: The first one is the bull. And only because it reminded me of.
JT Spangler: City Slickers 2.
Jeff: city slickers too and that's the only reason i like it and also He did. He doesn't say I'm going to go wash up. He goes. He goes, I'm going to go brush my teeth. And he had the milk mustache.
JT Spangler: Yeah.
Jeff: And that shit was kind of funny. Yeah, I chuckled. Um,
JT Spangler: Well, That was hard because that. umve We've seen that joke just a couple of years prior to this.
Jeff: Right.
JT Spangler: be done way better. And City Slickers too. 10K, Thirst Quencher. orange flavored.
Jeff: If... If we say it enough, it'll pop up in the SEO and then somebody will find it and sponsor us.
JT Spangler: And the K stands for Kentwood.
Jeff: It does. Dude, it's really the orange is really good.
JT Spangler: I'm gonna try to procure some of that for myself.
Jeff: Yeah. That and the lemon lime.
JT Spangler: um And have the... ah the milking of the bull but i did have that same bit where they're doing the barn raising just because that made me um like breathe heavy through my nose a little bit.
JT Spangler: they're In the middle, he's Woody is like this. bowling scammer who's lost his arm and then he sees randy quaid who's amish and has a sweet uh front mullet
Jeff: Yeah.
JT Spangler: ah Like bangs, like like a little girl's haircut.
Jeff: yeah Yeah, it's like a Prince Valiant, yeah.
JT Spangler: any income Yeah, yeah, Prince Valiant, perfect. And he' Woody Harrelson pretends to be Amish, so he's going to try to recruit Randy Quaid. He's like, I'm going to take you on the road. ruin a bunch of money. And he's like, I'm Amish.
JT Spangler: I don't do that. And.
Jeff: Yeah.
JT Spangler: So Woody Harrelson's pretending to be Amish. He's helping them with a barn raising and they're like raising the freaking. Ridge beam, like with all the. guys in there. Skinny beards, Abraham Lincoln style.
Jeff: Yeah. Yeah.
JT Spangler: And they like ring the bell for dinner and he just freaking bolts and they drop the whole barn And Woody Harrelson's just sitting down eating, and the Amish people are super mad at him, but they're always they're nice about it.
Jeff: Yeah.
JT Spangler: And that. Shit, I would liked.
Jeff: I don't know. ah is I know. This was stereotypical Amish. Um, They're not this. They're not. I don't know. It just felt like... And when did... Like everything I know about the Amish is comes from like this movie and Amish Paradise by. Weird Al.
Jeff: When did that come out? That's this that's got to be. close to the same time right
JT Spangler: It's... Definitely gotta be.
Jeff: Amish. Paradise. That is 96. Ah.
JT Spangler: Big year for you. I like to talk about the Amish on this podcast because they're never going to find out.
Jeff: What? I'm gonna fire off an angry missile. Um, ah Dude, it came out in March of 96 and this movie came out in... The summer, right?
JT Spangler: Yeah.
Jeff: so This I'm Just full up of Amish at this point. And this is all I know. And it's just, it's got to be stereotypes, right? Like.
JT Spangler: I don't know, dude. I i was trying to think. it was There's like a show on one of the networks.
Jeff: Yeah.
JT Spangler: for Okay. to be about like other like it's supposed to be like the network is supposed to be about like National Geographic or the world. or animals, but really it's like Vanilla Ice lives with Amish people and and like builds stuff.
JT Spangler: And.
Jeff: Yeah, it's like TLC. It's not the Learning Channel anymore. It's just... overweight black families that are also little people.
JT Spangler: Yes. on the spectrum looking for love. and
Jeff: Yeah.
JT Spangler: When I was at my parents' house one time, I was watching it because they... they still pay for cable they're like here take all our money we're good Um, And I was like, other than 96, this may be the peak of the Amish experience. Pop culturally, Vanilla Ice is out there building shit with him.
Jeff: Yeah.
JT Spangler: But I felt like there was a lot more humor that could have been had with Woody Harrelson. with the Amish people.
Jeff: Right. i Dude, and I get the whole they're buggy and horses. are they there's some that aren't that strict i'm sure
JT Spangler: Well, there's a bunch of, there's like Amish and then there's Mennonite. And then there's a couple.
Jeff: Right.
JT Spangler: others that I don't know the names of. And I think they all have different like levels of. shit they can do and shit they cannot do like some of them can use a tractor and some of them Ken.
Jeff: Right.
JT Spangler: Not use anything except horse and buggy powered.
Jeff: Yeah.
JT Spangler: I was.
Jeff: That sounds horrible.
JT Spangler: When they were doing the barn raising, I was thinking. Like, dude, I don't want. to always wear scratchy overalls and have an Abraham Simpson. ah Abraham Lincoln beard.
Jeff: did
JT Spangler: Grandpa th Simpson. and And I need my belt. There's a style it's time. Um, Give me. What do you say? No, but what I. Want is to have. A bunch of friends around to help me do shit.
Jeff: Yes.
JT Spangler: Like. I got to do yard work. Everybody's there.
Jeff: Um, Yeah, that part would be nice. I don't know. Do I have to still pray with him all the time? and
JT Spangler: I'm assuming the answer is yes.
Jeff: I don't want to do all that. i' that's That's the thing.
JT Spangler: Yeah.
Jeff: like i There's the trade -offs, you know? I think I'd rather only... see my friends every once in a while and not have to. skip using cell phones and TVs. I don't know.
Jeff: The whole time.
JT Spangler: i mean I'd be thrilled to do without cell phones.
Jeff: I don't know.
JT Spangler: but the doing without air conditioning is Bridge too far.
Jeff: Yeah. that's way too far uh so what's your second scene
JT Spangler: My second scene is the final bowling tournament.
Jeff: Dude, it's gotta to be the final.
JT Spangler: Yeah.
Jeff: And for me specifically, it's the. Final three strikes.
JT Spangler: Yeah.
Jeff: Like. That shit. And the fact that he actually hit the three strikes apparently. So when he's laying on the ground and running in a circle like Curly, um apparently he's like literally that excited and the crowd's really cheering.
Jeff: Because... He hit it for real.
JT Spangler: but The high... point of this movie for me is Bill Murray because he's hamming it up so hard and it is fantastic.
Jeff: So good. So good. Dude. is that I know they said they shaved Woody Harrelson. And that's like, I mean, I know he has a receding hairline a little bit, but they made the whole comb over.
Jeff: Was is Bill Murray bald?
JT Spangler: This year.
Jeff: Like, was that?
JT Spangler: you know I think they did that both for both of them for the movie. You could see in the movie Woody Harrelson, they shaved.
Jeff: god it was great
JT Spangler: it He had like head stubble coming up. Now I think he actually is that bald. But they did that for both of them in the movie, and they both had these cold -ass comb -overs with a really long combed -over piece, and it kept coming.
Jeff: Dude, and it was like sticking up when they were getting excited. I loved it.
JT Spangler: Yeah.
Jeff: Um,
JT Spangler: And dude, Bill Murray's like bowling ball has like a freaking beauty and the beast, like Rose.
Jeff: Get...
JT Spangler: and
Jeff: Rose in the middle. Yeah.
JT Spangler: He's like wearing all these like shiny like. John Wayne horse riding outfits.
Jeff: And he's got the hand thing to hold his finger up and he's got the back brace. He's got the whole thing.
JT Spangler: And he.
Jeff: He's doing all of it.
JT Spangler: Doing, like, Make -A -Wish commercials, and in the commercial, he's just picking the... the Kids who have a hot one.
Jeff: I should have put that part.
JT Spangler: grabbing their asses.
Jeff: Oh, dude, i I totally forgot about all of this. And at the very end of that commercial, when he's got his arm around all the all the moms and his hands in the front of her skirt.
Jeff: ah i should have put that that's my third one uh since i didn't have a third one
JT Spangler: And... And he's at the bowling tournament. yeah ESPN is announcing it. And he's like. Where the camera can't see is like just straight up fondling chicks. And the the ESPN announcers are going like, this guy's going to have a great political career when he's done being a bowler.
JT Spangler: right So he was...
Jeff: Oh, man. That's... Big earn. in real life was a good
JT Spangler: Yeah.
Jeff: Bowler, and I like that. Um,
JT Spangler: Yeah.
Jeff: Also, I like Big Earn as a name.
Jeff: Ernie McCracken was a good one.
JT Spangler: Well...
Jeff: um
JT Spangler: Bill Murray as the like. Jerk. who sometimes pretends to be nice.
Jeff: Yeah.
JT Spangler: villain of your movie is a great spot for him to be in.
Jeff: Yeah. Yeah, dude, when he's smoking that cigarette inside the the like the cafe the cafe, and he was like, hey. Not you. Hey, how's it going? like dude Hey, you want to wash off some of that perfume before you come back here?
Jeff: And he just tells Woody Harrelson, he's like, go finish that in the parking lot and come back in when you're done. like i That's the Bill Murray I like.
JT Spangler: ah Did you think about like Bill Murray and Groundhog Day, Bill Murray and Scrooge? It's so.
Jeff: Yeah.
JT Spangler: It's so much fun. and being a jerk.
Jeff: Yeah.
JT Spangler: Yeah, man, let's do, let's do some quotes. 10K.
Jeff: Um, All right, my first quote is... When Randy Quaid Ishmael goes, what you doing, Mr. Munson? it's like flossing it's like flossing Where did I get Munson from?
Jeff: I was like, God damn it.
JT Spangler: Yeah. Yeah. Hmm. Hmm.
Jeff: He's like, my name is Munson. What I'm doing is flossing. Cleans your teeth. I was. I forgot about that line. I like that line That was my first one
JT Spangler: It's... That's such an easy joke, but I appreciate that one. My first one is...
Jeff: Yeah.
JT Spangler: ah east ah Woody Harrelson is pretending to be Amish. He's trying to convince Randy Quaid to go bowling with him to win a bunch of money. He's like and he's just give he's woody harrelson's talking to randy quite easily. he's like you You got this.
JT Spangler: Magical. His ability, he's already. He's like, what are you talking about? He's like, I'll give you a hint. It's got three holes and you stick your fingers in it. And Randy.
Jeff: one
JT Spangler: Leave Rebecca out of this!
Jeff: You really miss Rebecca out of this.
JT Spangler: Peace.
Jeff: Um,
JT Spangler: that That shit cracked me up.
Jeff: Yeah. That was really good. I like how he called everybody Miss and Mr.
JT Spangler: I know.
Jeff: That was that was great.
JT Spangler: Yeah. other months and, uh, Brother Munson and the Whore.
Jeff: uh
Jeff: Bye, Mr. Munson. Bye, whore. Ah. great. Um, Dude, my next one is also Ishmael and him being just naive. And they're talking about Roy's rubber hand.
JT Spangler: Yeah.
Jeff: And he says, Claudia leans over and says, must be tough when you're spanking your monkey. He's like, you have a monkey?
JT Spangler: ah
Jeff: Dude, and I totally... I forgot that line too and it caught me off guard and I thought it was hilarious.
JT Spangler: Yeah, that was ah that was a good one. My next one is also Randy Quaid. there' There's like this long scene of them in the bathroom and it's just shooting them like straight on. so like Randy Quaid is like sitting down. clearly dropping a deuce. And then Woody Harrelson's like at the faucet, like, you know, washing his hands or whatever. And it's like, he's trying to explain stuff to him because he's just Amish, doesn't know anything.
JT Spangler: And finally. um And finally Randy Quaid's like, all right, yeah okay, keep your shirt on. and I can figure some things out for myself. And it cuts to a wide shot and it's him taking a shit in the urinal.
JT Spangler: Seated at the urinal facing out.
Jeff: And there's other people in there. It's not just the two of them. There's other people out there.
JT Spangler: asked And, dude, that sight gag. Cracked me up.
Jeff: Yeah, that was good.
JT Spangler: i I was not ready for that. I should have been but I wasn't.
Jeff: Dude, I like when he finally shows up and he's not wearing his Amish clothes anymore, too. He is dressed like such a douche. It's great.
JT Spangler: it I mean, it was a good recurring bit how gullible Randy Quaid was.
Jeff: Yeah.
JT Spangler: Um, Mikey's. <unk>s they're They just left the freaking Amish paradise and he's riding in the, like David Spade's ah messed up convertible from. ah
Jeff: Tommy boy.
JT Spangler: Tommy boy.
Jeff: Yeah.
JT Spangler: Good night. Woody Harrelson starts smoking and he's like. Hey, Mr. Munson, you shouldn't smoke. It's not good for you. And Woody Harrelson, she goes. Because look, who do you think has studied this more than the American Tobacco Institute?
JT Spangler: and they say then it's fine. He's like, really? Can I have one?
Jeff: I don't drink coffee. It's a stimulant. What do you think cigarettes are? Really? All right, then five sugars in all the cream. Um...
JT Spangler: And then like 10 minutes later, he's like wearing a gold chain that says Ishmael across it. smoking cigarettes, he's drinking beer. Yeah.
Jeff: Ah, what an idiot. um speaking of acting like a douche my last one is when claudia finally catches up with roy
JT Spangler: Yeah.
Jeff: And she leans over and she's like, what do you think about New Beginnings? He's like, what is that, a feminine hygiene spray? um dude i had never heard that joke before i must have missed it all the times before that um I thought that was hilarious New beginning sounds like a feminine hygiene spray.
JT Spangler: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Oh man. Yeah. ah Wendy sent me a comedian that was...
JT Spangler: like a small smaller time comedians doing stuff around Nashville as a gay guy. He's like. He's like, y 'all, I'm so out of it. I thought Lane Kiffin was a store where overweight ladies bought clothes.
Jeff: oh dude i think i've uh somebody i think sent me the same link this guy wearing like a sport jacket over a shirt Uh, And he's just dropping gems like that.
JT Spangler: yeah
JT Spangler: Oh, man. that's That's high quality. comedy there. um My last one is also from Randy Quaid. And it's there at the bowling tournament at the very end. And he's talking to Woody Harrelson. He goes, I don't know. It's kind of intimidating to be in the presence of so many great athletes. Let me just. but to the bowlers. And it's just fat dudes smoking cigarettes, eating hot dogs. like Nachos.
JT Spangler: oh God, that's a great joke too.
Jeff: ah Yeah, it reminds me of all those... Jim Gaffigan bit seems like... a Sport that you can eat and play at the same time, that's the kind of sport for me.
Jeff: uh dude and they were all wearing like wicked tight shirts and It was great.
JT Spangler: Yeah.
Jeff: It's great. Um,
JT Spangler: Well, The thing is that we came up with a bunch of funny parts of this movie, and yet when they happened the first time, I didn't really laugh that much at any of them.
Jeff: Yeah, I... um
JT Spangler: I don't know what this movie was missing because I know the people that said the lines delivered them better than me and you did.
Jeff: Right.
JT Spangler: ah But the reason I didn't laugh when they did it in the movie for the most part.
Jeff: I... I got to be honest, I'm going to try to figure out a way to squeeze in that feminine hygiene spray joke. I don't know what somebody is going to say. They won't say new beginnings. Nobody says that, but.
JT Spangler: Yeah.
Jeff: They'll say something and it'll remind me and I'm going to say it.
JT Spangler: Yeah.
Jeff: It's going to be gold.
JT Spangler: Yeah. Absolutely.
Jeff: Because nobody's going to know. All 18 people that saw this movie were two of them.
JT Spangler: Well, I mean, anytime someone suggests bowling, you can make that joke about it's got three holes and you stick your fingers in it.
JT Spangler: That one sounds good legs
Jeff: if anybody If anybody suggests bowling, they're not my friends, so...
JT Spangler: What if it's ah you want to. pretend that you're doing a sport, but really you're just eating nachos on a weeknight.
Jeff: um I think we all know I'll just eat nachos at the house.
JT Spangler: Yeah. Yeah. Um, characters Who's your first character?
Jeff: Dude, my first one is Big Ern McCracken.
JT Spangler: Yeah. Bill Murray.
Jeff: but bill murray yeah he's freaking killing he's like in like 20 minutes maybe a little more Of the whole movie.
JT Spangler: That's a no -brainer.
Jeff: He's the person I remember. Yeah.
JT Spangler: He's the one person from this movie that I thought. did an outstanding job. Everyone else was like, I wish they would have done. some different different stuff.
Jeff: well and the weird thing is is all the stuff i'm reading uh on it is about how like He gets that day's sheet and goes, yeah, this is great. Crumple that up.
Jeff: I'm not going to say what I want. And he was like improvising all the stuff.
JT Spangler: Yeah.
Jeff: um Which makes it even...
JT Spangler: Yeah.
Jeff: Even better. Even better.
JT Spangler: That makes sense. i um Because I was thinking, because I'm like, Woody Harrelson is, he's good in this. because And I love Woody Harrelson, but I'm like, he's not. that good. And he's got to be really bad to make Woody Harrelson. not seem that good.
Jeff: Right.
JT Spangler: He's fantastic, dude. He did. White men can't jump an indecent proposal in the same year, I want to say, or back -to -back years. And he was incredible in both of those movies, and those characters are the exact opposite.
Jeff: Yeah.
JT Spangler: of each other
Jeff: Right.
JT Spangler: He's fantastic.
Jeff: This is like white men can't jump. He can't stop. ah or ah Or Money Train. Where he can't he just can't stop.
JT Spangler: Yeah.
Jeff: ah betting on stuff. um Yeah, dude, i picked I picked Bill Murray because...
JT Spangler: Yeah.
Jeff: I think as a director, you would just have to just learn to not yell cut. and just let him Let him cook because eventually you'll get some stuff.
JT Spangler: Yeah, and I think you have to... know if you hire Bill Murray that like you can forget about. handing him the script. He's not gonna use it.
Jeff: Yeah. Yeah, he's not going to do that.
JT Spangler: Giving you something.
Jeff: He'll read over it and get the gist and then make his own make his own way.
JT Spangler: Yes. Alright, I got it. Just, you know, start the camera recording and let's just see.
Jeff: Yeah.
JT Spangler: arms If you're in the process, Sean, let's do 100 of these and see what we get.
Jeff: uh it's good
Jeff: Bleh.
JT Spangler: ah My second one is bill is Woody Harrelson, even though I didn't think. This is his best performance.
Jeff: Yeah, dude, but still. The freaking wig, the clothes. The posture.
JT Spangler: I still love Woody Harrelson and I still thought he was good.
Jeff: The... I thought he killed it. Yeah.
JT Spangler: They...
Jeff: I don't know what it's not like about Woody Harrelson.
JT Spangler: they were considering uh They were considering Michael Keaton for this, and I was trying to picture Michael Keaton in this, and that would have been good too.
Jeff: Yeah.
JT Spangler: But. um I don't think.
Jeff: Yeah, but not the same.
JT Spangler: Well, you know, sometimes it's like, oh, if they put that person there that will like if they had put Chris Farley instead of Randy Quaid, that would have improved it a little bit. If they put Michael Keaton instead of Woody Harrelson.
Jeff: chris Chris Farley.
JT Spangler: Wonderful.
Jeff: And Michael Keaton though?
JT Spangler: yeah Either way, I think Michael...
Jeff: You think?
JT Spangler: It's a lateral move from Woody Harrelson for this movie. I think they both would have done the same. stuff.
Jeff: Yeah.
Jeff: Yeah.
JT Spangler: And...
Jeff: yeah
JT Spangler: Oh. Thank you very much.
Jeff: Yeah. I could see it being funny. Um, So, that dude, I had Woody Harrelson second, and I put Randy Quaid. I... I mean...
JT Spangler: Yeah.
Jeff: This and. Independence Day in the same. summer He had a pretty good summer.
JT Spangler: Yeah.
Jeff: dude I felt like he's not the best Amish person, but... I thought he delivered some of the jokes.
JT Spangler: Yeah.
Jeff: All right.
JT Spangler: ah He did a pretty good job.
Jeff: but
JT Spangler: I think.
Jeff: I only put him because I didn't want to put, what's her name?
JT Spangler: um Yeah.
JT Spangler: I didn't love. I didn't love his performance or that casting, but he did a pretty good job. i I didn't like anyone else I ended up putting ah Roger Clemens for his cameo as Skidmark.
Jeff: Skid mark. Um, i Dude, I wanted Chris Elliott.
JT Spangler: Yes. i mean The name's Mark.
Jeff: to have a bigger role too.
JT Spangler: I know.
Jeff: Yeah. I... I just like those side characters. i I don't know how you add more to it. I didn't want this movie to be longer. but
JT Spangler: Right.
Jeff: You know what I'm saying? like a I don't know
JT Spangler: Yeah.
Jeff: I don't know
JT Spangler: All right.
Jeff: i don't know but i do what whoa what about the what about the landlady
JT Spangler: Yeah. i' a chris
JT Spangler: The landlady did a good job.
Jeff: Did she gross you out?
JT Spangler: But I hated that. part.
Jeff: So gross.
JT Spangler: Super gross.
Jeff: How'd they get her teeth to look like that?
JT Spangler: I'm sure she was wearing freaking fake teeth. Yeah, and I like that Yeah.
Jeff: God it was so gross
JT Spangler: I like that actor cat. What's her name? I had it just a second ago. Um,
Jeff: Lynn something.
JT Spangler: Lynch. Okay.
Jeff: I don't remember her name.
JT Spangler: Yeah, Lin Shay.
Jeff: Yeah.
JT Spangler: She's Shut up. 50 -year career.
Jeff: Yeah. She's been a... i only I remember her from... She's in a lot of the Farrelly Brothers movies. I remembered her from... um from the other one Watch, um...
JT Spangler: Isn't like critters and a little bunch of Wes Craven stuff
Jeff: I remember her being in something about Mary, I think. I think she's in that one, and that's where I remembered her from.
JT Spangler: Isn't something i'm about Mary? Yeah, she's in Me, Myself, and Irene.
Jeff: Nice.
JT Spangler: Yeah, she's in a bunch of stuff
Jeff: Nice.
JT Spangler: Right.
Jeff: and She doesn't really look like that, too, I'm sure.
JT Spangler: rescueing No, of course not. um Writer, director. So the directors are the Farrelly brothers. And.
Jeff: Right.
JT Spangler: Like I was looking at their stuff and I'm like, it's all lowbrow. Like that's what they do. Dumb and dumber. ah But if you look at their filmography.
Jeff: Yeah.
JT Spangler: The stuff they write and direct is way by far my favorite.
Jeff: Yeah.
JT Spangler: Dumb and Dumber, something about Mary, Shallow Hal, Hall Pass. That's the... That's the stuff there. So I'm going to do that. I like it.
Jeff: Shallow howl, that's my jam.
JT Spangler: That one I predict on a rewatch.
Jeff: I love me some Shallow Hal.
JT Spangler: is Not. Not going to be great.
Jeff: What about, um what's the one? where, uh...
Jeff: damn It's got Michelle Moyahan in it, and it's got Ben Stiller. And he marries some blonde and then he goes on his honeymoon and ends up.
JT Spangler: Heartbreak Kid.
Jeff: Realizing she's cray cray. Heartbreak Kid. That's Fairly Brothers, isn't it?
JT Spangler: Yep, it is. That's one they write in direct.
Jeff: that's that's That's them too. Nice. Um, What's the one with ah Greg Kinnear and... uh, What's his name? Matt Damon.
Jeff: they're stuck together
JT Spangler: um I think that's...
Jeff: They're like.
JT Spangler: Stephanie.
Jeff: Siamese twins or something.
JT Spangler: Stuck on you.
Jeff: Stuck on you, Dak. I guess I could have figured that out. Yeah, stuck on you. um that All of those are very lowbrow, but they all have like...
JT Spangler: Yeah.
Jeff: messages at the end. like the shallow how you're supposed to like don't you remember in shallow how like Because he was shallow, like even all of the... Like.
Jeff: uh handicapped people look different and all of that stuff do you remember
JT Spangler: Yeah.
Jeff: like the burn victim kids and stuff. So like, I like the fact that some of these stuff have, some of these things have lessons at the end, but.
JT Spangler: Yeah, I think they figured out the whole, like...
Jeff: I don't know. They might not.
JT Spangler: There's... comedy and it's crass but also there's a There's a little nugget of... lesson in there somewhere and this one doesn't really have that i mean i guess it's maybe trying to Thank you.
Jeff: Yeah.
JT Spangler: uh, Woody Harrelson.
Jeff: u tra At the end.
JT Spangler: Yeah, he goes from... you know, being a con man to being a. better version of a con man. But it wasn't like an uplift.
Jeff: The way he gives all the money, doesn't he give all the money out?
JT Spangler: Yeah. It had a good ending.
Jeff: Yeah.
JT Spangler: I liked the ending, actually.
Jeff: Yeah.
JT Spangler: um But yeah, I didn't feel like it was like.
Jeff: Yeah.
JT Spangler: Well, I really learned something. um But yeah. So the Farrelly brothers direct but don't write. The most shocking bit of information I uncovered during the research for this episode was that the two writers, Barry Fennaro and Mort Nathan.
JT Spangler: We're either head writer or executive producers on Golden Girls.
Jeff: Yeah.
JT Spangler: And I was like. What the hell? This script?
Jeff: Yeah.
JT Spangler: It was horrible.
Jeff: um
JT Spangler: How did those guys, Golden Girls is incredible. How do they do that? How did they mess this up?
Jeff: Yeah, it's hilarious. it's hilarious
JT Spangler: Or did they not message you?
Jeff: Um.
JT Spangler: I read the script.
Jeff: So the more...
JT Spangler: think
Jeff: more Well, Morton Nathan, that guy, is the he's a major writer and producer. And then the Fannerow guy, Barry Fannerow, he was also a writer.
JT Spangler: Amen.
Jeff: on the seasons that they won emmys so like these guys have emmys
JT Spangler: Yeah.
Jeff: And the fan arrow guy wrote, um, he worked on um
JT Spangler: Shiniro, uh, uh...
Jeff: A Men in Black 2?
JT Spangler: Barry. Barry Fannerow wrote 250 episodes. um over four seasons of The Golden Girls, he wrote the screenplay for Men in Black 2. He wrote the screenplay for I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry.
Jeff: Men in Black 2 is hilarious.
JT Spangler: It looks pretty funny. So like...
Jeff: Yeah.
JT Spangler: Both of these dudes, like it wasn't like, hey, this guy had one idea.
Jeff: Yeah. It was.
JT Spangler: i'm like these Dudes did a bunch of stuff and it was mostly really funny.
Jeff: Yeah. the other guy wrote boat trip that's not really that funny and neither is van wilder too but
JT Spangler: Yeah.
Jeff: Um, he's riding on the uh he's riding on the coketail coattails of the other guy who like worked on analyze this he did the rewrites i have a note about that uh big trouble the one with tim allen
JT Spangler: Nice.
Jeff: like he did rewrites for that so like dude's funny And I think, like you said, we just said some quotes that were pretty funny. We were chuckling. I just didn't chuckle the first time through.
Jeff: And I don't know if I just.
JT Spangler: I wonder when that happens, if it's like maybe the screenwriters.
Jeff: I don't know
JT Spangler: have just a very... different comedic sensibility than the directors do and maybe they have a very different sensibility than the cat.
Jeff: Yeah.
JT Spangler: does And it's just like ah they just can't get it all like locked in because I know that the Golden Girls.
Jeff: Right.
JT Spangler: dudes. Can write funny shit. And I know the Farrelly brothers can direct funny movies. And I know everybody in this movie. can do comedy too, but it didn't all like land this time.
Jeff: Right. We are. Right.
JT Spangler: Um, but
Jeff: Um,
JT Spangler: I don't...
Jeff: what about oh What about the band at the end? You saw who that was?
JT Spangler: Yeah, Blues Traveler.
Jeff: Friggin'. blues traveler and uh he was also the announcer the main guy i can't think of his name um john
JT Spangler: Yeah.
JT Spangler: Jump.
Jeff: Popper, maybe he did the he did the announcing at the end.
JT Spangler: Yeah. Yeah. think Yeah.
Jeff: At the bowling thing.
JT Spangler: Yeah. Yeah, at the...
Jeff: I like me some, uh, some blues traveler.
JT Spangler: okay in The end credit. Over the end credit, Blues Traveler performs their song, But Anyway, while dressed in traditional Amish clothing.
JT Spangler: I mean, is it? Yes.
Jeff: Amen.
JT Spangler: I guess the nice thing about making fun is of the Amish people is they're not going to find out. But I'm like... Is that cultural appropriation if you're going to dress up like the Amish and perform your song in a movie? ah Seems like the sort of thing people would be mad about.
Jeff: I don't...
JT Spangler: Thank you.
Jeff: But again like you said it's the Amish. So who cares?
JT Spangler: Yeah. Exactly. I mean, they do, but they don't know that it's happening.
Jeff: I dunno.
JT Spangler: um
Jeff: They're not going to find that. Right.
JT Spangler: Yeah.
Jeff: Yeah.
JT Spangler: This like actually opened
Jeff: Um,
JT Spangler: Well, for a comedy, just because it didn't cost a lot of money to make. Um, You know, like. was out like um was out When Nutty Professor was out.
Jeff: I could see that
JT Spangler: um Top 10 highest grossing film by its and its opening month and then ended up you know 72nd on the year something like that
Jeff: That's crazy. it did I could tell it didn't cost a lot to make, though. like There was very few really big. Like even the snake wrangler guy.
JT Spangler: Yeah.
Jeff: That was the Fairleigh brothers' dad, by the way.
JT Spangler: that Nice.
Jeff: um Like, that that looks horrible. it looks what What are we doing? like
JT Spangler: Yeah.
Jeff: I get it. But.
JT Spangler: If you want me to cut 25 minutes out of this movie, I promise you that's going on the chopping block immediately.
Jeff: I don't get it.
JT Spangler: That was weird and not funny and not.
Jeff: Yeah, absolutely.
JT Spangler: Cool.
JT Spangler: Any more questions?
Jeff: Yeah, I think I could speed up the the rich guy too. with the girlfriend.
JT Spangler: Yeah. I do that.
Jeff: Get rid of her.
JT Spangler: I could probably lose that whole thing.
Jeff: I mean, get rid of that part.
JT Spangler: ah Yeah, I could probably get rid of that entire subplot.
Jeff: Really?
JT Spangler: I wrote again. I think so, because he because she can leave to go be with the big ah big urn. and then come back
Jeff: Big earn. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
JT Spangler: You just take his money and run off.
Jeff: Yeah, you're right.
JT Spangler: and Like, it's fine. like i've got that done. I've saved us 10 minutes. Um,
Jeff: R U N N O F T.
JT Spangler: Yeah. Do you ah you have any more bonus good?
Jeff: I do not
JT Spangler: There's an extended edition of this that's rated R. that is uh Five minutes longer if anyone's super into it.
Jeff: That's the one I watched.
JT Spangler: Oh, God.
Jeff: In 4K, by the way.
JT Spangler: I thought you had this on DVD.
Jeff: It was bad.
JT Spangler: Why didn't you just watch the original? Or you had the extended edition on DVD.
Jeff: Because. No, I... downloaded a version to see if it was any different, and then I just watched that version.
JT Spangler: You can also get it on Blu -ray. So super high quality.
Jeff: Ooh.
JT Spangler: Yeah. um All right.
Jeff: Nice.
JT Spangler: Let's do the worst. I think we've kind of covered it. um i don't have any specific worst scenes or characters and the one you talked about with the snake the
Jeff: Yeah.
JT Spangler: Actual snake. effect is so bad that it's worth mentioning.
Jeff: Yeah, I didn't like i didn't like the... yeah snake a handling part and for the worst the only thing that i really wanted to highlight is the landlady part
JT Spangler: Yeah.
Jeff: I get it's supposed to be crass and it's 1996, but golly. It was... Oof. it was It was bad. i didn't I didn't like that at all.
JT Spangler: It was bad. It was weird to me how many times this movie went into a strip club given that one of the three people on screen was Amish.
JT Spangler: Don't they have? You take care, buddy.
Jeff: That's why they kept going in there.
JT Spangler: Did they go to a diner or something? he Dude, he was in the strip joint. He was just totally casual about it. Uh, i don't understand i don't think that's how that would go um Yep.
Jeff: Um, Yeah.
JT Spangler: I mean, it's it's set in the... like 70s and then catches up to the 90s. There was definitely no tech, but it. Nothing really.
Jeff: Yeah.
JT Spangler: It impacted the plot. Dictionary sales.
Jeff: I did like the, I mean.
JT Spangler: Thank you, Jasmine.
Jeff: dictionary salesman also like the just looking at the stuff now that i've seen what bowling alleys look like now
JT Spangler: Yeah.
Jeff: And like all the tech that they have now, it's completely. Like some of those places were still doing overhead projector handwriting. for scorekeeping, and that's old school.
JT Spangler: Well, one of them had like a chalkboard and like she would write go up there in her like high heels and shit and write on the. thing. i I don't think I've seen a bowling alley like that.
Jeff: Yeah. Yeah! Yeah. Yeah, that's way old school. Um,
JT Spangler: but like look riness I didn't really see any of that.
Jeff: political incorrectness.
JT Spangler: Other than it's like a crass lowbrow.
Jeff: I mean... right Right. That's all I had.
JT Spangler: All right, man. Let's do five questions.
Jeff: What about the five questions?
JT Spangler: Is it okay for kids?
Jeff: ah Dude, I... The PG -13 version, you could probably watch it. 13 or 14.
JT Spangler: Yeah.
Jeff: um The one that I watched. i i don't i don't know what it was different what was different but it's just a lot of gross out humor and
JT Spangler: Yeah.
Jeff: Like. Um... implied sexual situations so like
JT Spangler: Yeah.
Jeff: And nobody's going to care about the traumatic hand injury or the drinking or the gambling. for younger kids anymore. so Or I wouldn't think so.
JT Spangler: Yeah.
Jeff: So I don't know, 13, 14 years old.
JT Spangler: Yeah. ah Number two, would this movie get made if it were pitched now? This weirdly... would be one. that if it wasn't If... if somebody wanted to reboot this i would be like that could maybe be awesome Because we didn't do a great job the first time around.
Jeff: Yeah, it could. Of course, it would be hilarious now, maybe. Maybe less sexual coercion, but... um
JT Spangler: Yeah.
Jeff: Uh... I think. um maybe make claudia a better character like flesh her out a little more uh and less I don't know. Do you still do it Amish? Do you still you still do bowling, right?
Jeff: I mean, I don't know.
JT Spangler: I'm sure. Well, like if if I read that, like. Andy Samberg was going to reboot Kingpin. I'm like, that might be awesome. Like that could be great.
Jeff: Right.
JT Spangler: like it's got It's got everything you need to be hilarious.
Jeff: Yeah, you're right. you're right
JT Spangler: so You can keep the Amish. You can keep the bowling. you can ah modernize some stuff.
Jeff: yeah
JT Spangler: But I would be in. ah Definitely, I would want it to be a movie. I can't imagine.
Jeff: Since it's...
Jeff: The only reason I would want it to not be a movie is since it's Andy Sandberg. Can we do like a six episode mockumentary of Big Earn? uh like bigger and mccracken's mockumentary like he does those really well and i think i would watch it
