Conor Fowler: no

matt: Yeah, yeah.

Peter : you You're gentlemen of leisure.

matt: I'm a night person.

Peter : you you have your afternoons off.

Conor Fowler: Right.

matt: Yeah, yeah.

Conor Fowler: Exactly.

matt: there's Something like that. I'm definitely a night person, but like my brain is functioning the best atre like 3.30 to 5 in the afternoon or something like that.

Peter : Right.

matt: so Yeah, dude.

Peter : Yeah.

matt: Peter, thank you for coming on. This is the third time, I think.

Peter : My pleasure. Is it really? Well, thank you.

Conor Fowler: Yeah, to those to those in the know this Peter has returned here yet again for the third time.

matt: Yeah, something like that.

matt: Yeah, yeah.

Conor Fowler: Mm-hmm.

matt: And fun fact, the first one we did with you, what was it, Rock Climbing in Khakis, I think was the title.

Peter : right. any

Peter : Yeah, yeah.

matt: That was one of our first, what, three or four episodes?

Peter : Oh, whoa. Okay, cool.

matt: And that was four fucking, or almost four years ago next month.

Peter : I'm like a recurring character here.

matt: So.

Peter : Awesome.

matt: Dude, we love it. We love it. You're you're a homie.

Conor Fowler: Well, I was explaining.

Peter : Awesome. I like it.

Conor Fowler: I was explaining because people are always asking me, like, who is going to come on the show, right? and it's like, man, this guy is like, man.

Conor Fowler: So he's a tattooer, but he he he has done, like, silent meditation retreats and shit.

Peter : Oh god, yeah, you're right.

Conor Fowler: ah You know, just like a punk.

Peter : Real weirdo.

Conor Fowler: Yeah, yeah.

matt: Dude, our favorite kind of person. Yeah.

Conor Fowler: Weird, but pretty normal, I would say.

Peter : Right, right.

Conor Fowler: Like, well-adjusted anyway. I mean, you have ah you have an interesting tail.

Peter : try I try. try. Gotta keep it interesting, right?

matt: Yeah, you have to.

Peter : This life.

Conor Fowler: Well, like your kid is going to middle school, right?

matt: yeah Yeah, that's awesome.

Peter : Yeah, yeah. Wow, you got a good memory. Yeah, my son is going into yeah middle school next year. it's crazy.

Conor Fowler: But that's like also impressive.

Peter : Time flies.

matt: It does, man. it Somehow, like, i feel like in the past, I don't know, decade or so, especially, like, post, you know, post-2020, think,

Peter : Right.

matt: Time i both flies and stands still, and I don't know how that's that's possible.

Peter : Right. Yeah, i I totally relate to that statement completely.

matt: Yeah, yeah. like Like, the fact that we the fact we've been doing this for four years is mind-blowing to me.

Conor Fowler: Short years, long days.

Peter : Yeah. Right.

matt: And I'm just like, oh, okay, yeah, 2022 four years ago Cool.

Peter : That's crazy.

Peter : Yeah. yeah Good job, guys.

matt: Thank you. Thank you. Yeah. Yeah. We're we're just going to keep teasing the the coming like anniversary month of shit, but we don't actually, we don't know what we're totally going to do yet, but ah yeah, Peter, dude.

Peter : Nice.

Conor Fowler: We keep getting older, they stay the same age.

matt: Yeah. ah Yeah.

Peter : Right.

Conor Fowler: Years.

Peter : Oh, hey.

matt: Yeah. a

Peter : That's one of those lines you're like, what?

Conor Fowler: Yeah, just like...

Peter : In retrospect.

matt: yeah yeah yeah and as much as I love Days of Confused and McConaughey's character, like, that did not, that didn't age well, but it's also kind of like, eh, that was definitely the time.

Peter : Right.

Conor Fowler: Well, that's probably walnuts on the Sopranos, too.

Peter : I was listening to that ah Bob Dylan song, Don't Think Twice It's Alright. I was listening to a cover of it. By this guy Willie Watson. And there's that one line it line at the end where he says, I once loved a woman, a child I'm told.

matt: yeah.

Peter : What the fuck?

matt: Yeah, oh, dude, i need it I haven't even thought about that.

Conor Fowler: Yeah.

Peter : Every time I hear that fucking line since I was like 14 years old, I was like, what

matt: Yeah, right.

Peter : And there there was like a time in my 20s where I was like, I guess, I guess the, no, what the fuck? That just, there's no way that line is like cool.

Conor Fowler: Bob is a weird guy.

Peter : Yeah, okay.

matt: Yeah, yeah.

Peter : Hey, Donald Trump's a weird guy.

matt: And...

Conor Fowler: but and Back then, and it's like,

Peter : Oh, yeah.

Conor Fowler: Back then, back then, feel like people were marrying 13-year-olds. Isn't that the whole Jerry Lee Lewis thing?

Peter : yeah

Conor Fowler: Jerry Lee Lewis married a 12-year-old or whatever?

Peter : Yeah. Oh, my God. You're already making me choke.

Conor Fowler: then Yeah, right.

matt: Yeah, yeah. I've come to realize that most of our, our like, quote-unquote heroes are were absolutely trash people at some point or another.

Peter : Oh, no. Sort of monsters, yeah.

matt: Yeah, yeah. And and that's a bummer. And... Fuck. Anyway.

Conor Fowler: There's gotta be some out there who are decent.

Peter : Right?

matt: Yeah, there's gotta be.

Conor Fowler: Zach Delarocco doesn't have a long rap sheet.

matt: There's gotta to be.

Conor Fowler: I mean, aside from like just making money hand over fist.

Peter : I mean...

matt: It's true. It's true.

Peter : Right, right. He seems to still be cool. Tom and Zach we can still count on.

matt: I think so. Also, RIP to Tom's mom. like

Conor Fowler: Right.

matt: She was 102, I think, which, you know, that shit's wild.

Peter : Yeah. Hey, not a bad run.

matt: and like I don't know, regardless of what you want to say about Tom Burillo.

Peter : I was going to say, and you shot out Tom Morello. I mean, fuck. Good job.

matt: I don't know, man.

Conor Fowler: She was a, wasn't she a professor?

Peter : Yeah, yeah.

matt: What'd you say?

Conor Fowler: I think she was a professor.

Peter : Yeah.

matt: Yeah, she was. She was.

Peter : Yeah.

matt: But, you know, like, at least, like, she instilled in that dude a sense of justice and goodness in the world. So...

Peter : Hell yeah.

matt: Anyhow, Peter, how you doing, man? How's ah house Summer treating you? And the fam?

Peter : I'm good doing good. Um, summer's doing pretty good, you know, surviving in these unprecedented times and all that.

matt: Right. Did you guys... You're in Providence, yes?

Peter : I'm outside of Providence. So I'm, I'm closer to Newport.

matt: Or, yeah. Yeah. Okay, they were Rhode Island, either way.

Peter : Um, yeah, Rhode Island, but I live in like, I don't live in the city. I live in like the, not even the suburbs, like like a level past the suburbs.

matt: Yeah. Did you guys get that ridiculous heat wave a couple of weeks ago, too?

Peter : Yeah, yeah. I lost my mind on the 4th of July.

matt: Jesus.

matt: Yeah, it's so fucking wild.

Peter : It went insane.

Peter : we were invited to a party, a cookout, and I was like, I'm not going to be able to go to this. i mean, I'm too hot. I can't stop sweating.

matt: Right?

Peter : I can't put on clothing.

matt: that

Peter : I can't go.

matt: Yeah.

Peter : and then at like 4 o'clock, the heat like went down like 10 degrees like rapidly.

matt: yeah

Peter : And then by like 4.30, it was like another 10.

matt: Sick.

Peter : It was like, okay. Now we can maybe leave, we can go sit outside and sweat, but it's you know it's not, I'm not going to be putting a straight jacket.

matt: Right. Right.

matt: Something about the Northeast I love is that like you at least get a reprieve later in the day and

Peter : Yeah, hopefully, right?

matt: Yeah, like if if you're, I guess if you're close enough to water, you know, it's it's like, it's not like, i don't know, it it's not 80 degrees with 90% humidity at 10 o'clock at night.

Peter : Yeah.

matt: And it's just like, okay, cool.

Peter : It's like where where I live here in Rhode Island, we would tell you that we don't live near the water, but you can like walk across my street for like five minutes and you'll be up like that and there against the bay.

matt: Nice. Yeah. Totally. Totally.

Peter : But i wouldn' I would say no, we don't. Do you live by the water? Oh, Yeah.

matt: but No, I do not live by the water. i did in Brooklyn. I was talking about this with a friend a day or two ago. like ah My first summer in Brooklyn, I did not have an air conditioning unit.

matt: and I have no idea how survived that.

Peter : so boy yeah Right. You know, that's when I lived in Boston for like a decade, nobody had air conditioning.

Peter : was like my, maybe like the last year and a half I lived there, somebody had like a window unit.

Conor Fowler: Human body can take a lot.

Peter : Yeah.

Conor Fowler: Human body can take a lot. I think like,

matt: Yeah, yeah. I mean, i've I've stayed in places like in Boston or around Boston that like, yeah.

Peter : Yeah.

Peter : And then I moved to Kansas City, Missouri, and it was like the cheapest apartment you would find would have central air conditioning.

matt: Mm-hmm.

Peter : Like, it was... just Like, I remember, like, the first summer I came back in the house where I lived, and I was like, it's freezing in here.

matt: Yeah, because...

Peter : And they're like, yeah, there's central AC, buddy. i was like, what is that?

matt: Right.

Conor Fowler: No.

Peter : We don't have that in New England. It's not...

matt: Right. yeah it's ah Once you get past a certain point south, it's it's a necessity.

Peter : Yeah.

matt: it has to be.

Peter : It's like Protestant austerity doesn't allow it up here.

Conor Fowler: no

matt: So what a what do you have planned for the summer? Y'all doing vacations or have you done vacations?

Peter : really. Not a big, I think like this summer we usually just have friends come visit. You know, a lot of people come through town we try to have like a

matt: Okay. Okay.

Peter : hospitable spot for them to stop by.

Conor Fowler: It's noble.

Peter : I just had, like, some friends over that I worked with, like, you know, like, literally, like, 20 years ago. it doesn't seem possible, but, yeah, used to work with them, so a bunch of them came over last Sunday, but, yeah, that's kind of my summer vibe. i just try to have people over and

Conor Fowler: a

Peter : do like a four hour five hour cookout you know

matt: Oh, hell yeah.

Conor Fowler: What are you cooking?

matt: Yeah.

Peter : on that sunday when they got here i had the chicken wings that i had grilled i pulled off with like uh and then uh we had some clams and mussels

matt: Wait, what? I got to ask what flavor of chicken wings.

Conor Fowler: Well,

Peter : Um, you really just like super kind of basic seasoning. Um, yeah, I really keep it pretty basic on the grill.

matt: Okay. Okay.

Peter : Like, do you literally want to know?

matt: I mean, I'm from Atlanta, you know, like, like chicken wings are a thing here.

Peter : Oh, yeah, right.

matt: So, you know, you gotta ask.

Peter : Okay, so you'll appreciate I did do ribs later too.

matt: Yeah.

Peter : Um, but you're vegetarian, right?

matt: Hell yeah. I'm vegan, but yes, I, I, uh,

Peter : Vegan.

Conor Fowler: The truth comes out.

Peter : Yeah. Oh my god, I i wish it i didn't even say that. right

matt: ah no, no, I don't care. I'm like, I'm not a food person, but food is like kind

Peter : You can appreciate the culinary still.

matt: Yeah, like there's so many good vegan options here.

Peter : Yeah, when I make wings on the grill, I do i do them over actual charcoal.

matt: like

matt: Oh, nice, nice.

Peter : So they're kind of smoky to begin with, but then just kind of just basic like garlic, onion powder, paprika, a little brown sugar, salt, pepper, and then serve them with, like, a chewy-churry.

matt: Oh, hell yeah.

Conor Fowler: they're good.

Peter : Yeah.

matt: Okay.

Peter : Very good.

Conor Fowler: People cook all kinds of bullshit, you know?

Peter : Oh, I don't fuck around when it comes to cooking.

Conor Fowler: I didn't expect that you did. i think we talked about this in the beginning.

Peter : You know what's crazy? Okay, because this... You know what's really crazy? Is this relates to this fucking show. Is I cook because of fucking affordable wardrobe, because of Giuseppe.

matt: Oh, hell yeah.

Conor Fowler: Yeah.

Peter : Yeah.

matt: Yeah.

Peter : When I was like, it's funny.

Conor Fowler: that's like the That's like the hidden part of the blog is the is the food stuff.

Peter : Right. When I was when i was um kind of like late 20s, early 30s, I guess, early 30s, I was doing my apprenticeship.

Conor Fowler: Yeah.

Peter : And part of my apprenticeship, too, because I was in Kansas City, is like they had a full kitchen in the back of the tattoo shop. And the owner of the shop would like come in you know, at like 11 and start cooking and do like one appointment at like 4 p.m.

Peter : And he'd be like cooking a meal all day.

matt: That's so sick.

Peter : Cooked and like served dinner i like 6.

Conor Fowler: yeah

Peter : And there would always be somebody like cooking there. I learned to cook so many things by watching people cook at the Mercy Sea in Kansas City. And then that was at the same time I was reading that an affordable wardrobe blog at the same time.

Conor Fowler: Wow.

Peter : And I was like, oh, like cooking is like kind of like a cool thing. Like you want to you want to be a guy that if people show up to your house at like 10 o'clock at night, you can just like look in your fridge and like make, you know, a nice meal that people are like psyched about ah for whatever you see there.

Conor Fowler: Yeah.

Conor Fowler: Yeah.

Conor Fowler: Yeah, exactly.

matt: Hell yeah.

Peter : Right.

Conor Fowler: i think entertaining is like, is like the, is like the best thing that you can do, you know, like,

Peter : Yeah, that's like a good, like, gentlemanly quality to be able like, whip something up in any situation.

matt: Yeah, I am forever. I'm

Conor Fowler: It's person, person quality, you know?

Peter : Right. Yeah, yeah.

matt: a great.

Peter : Not gentlemen. Any gentle person, any a lovely person should be able to, you know, you want to be like ah when you're, like, on a weekend away with friends and they're like, oh, let's go to the grocery store and, like, you you don't want to, like, end up with bullshit.

Conor Fowler: yeah Right.

Peter : You want to be like, oh, I have, like, You want to like six strong recipes in mind that you could just whip out.

Conor Fowler: What I would do is just stress.

Conor Fowler: but So you're at the point where I would like to be like, I can cook it competently.

Peter : That will impress.

Peter : Oh yeah. It's, I mean, it's not, it's not, it's not without like literally like a decade of like seriously concentrating on it.

Conor Fowler: Oh yeah.

Peter : But yeah.

Conor Fowler: And a ton of failure. i mean, you really have to fuck up and not, not like majorly, I guess, but.

Peter : Yeah. Yeah. But now I have my, I have my methods. Like I can kind of, I can kind of whip it out. Like, I made, like, shellfish for one, two, three, for, like, eight people while I was barbecuing ribs for three and a half hours and cooking chicken wings.

Conor Fowler: That's, that's impressive.

Peter : Everything was perfect.

Conor Fowler: I bet. I bet. it so that's so good. i mean, that's like wonderful, really.

Peter : Yeah, you want to... That's, like, the ultimate... That's, like, the... That's like the other part, right? You want to be convivial and well-dressed, right?

matt: Totally. Totally. Yeah. Yeah.

Conor Fowler: Well, it's like you're sharing your love

Peter : Yeah.

Conor Fowler: There are people in your house, like people are looking at your art and shit.

Peter : Yeah, right?

Peter : Right. That's like, my wife is like, that's that's this is Peter's love language, you know? Like, cooking for people.

matt: Hell yeah.

Peter : That's like, that's how you know I really like you, you know?

Conor Fowler: Yeah, for real.

Peter : Yeah.

matt: Absolutely. i can make a good sandwich.

Peter : Yeah.

matt: That's about as far as it goes. Like, I'm great with...

Peter : Yeah. That's this.

Conor Fowler: Sandwiches, sandwich is hard though. In my opinion, you good sandwiches are because like there's so many variables.

Peter : Yeah.

matt: Yeah.

Peter : Oh, yeah.

matt: Yeah, totally.

Peter : When I was in high school, there was like a culinary arts program in like the vocational tech school.

Conor Fowler: Oh, yeah. Yeah.

matt: Totally.

Conor Fowler: Damn.

Conor Fowler: oh yeah yeah

Peter : And a friend of mine would make me a sandwich, like, probably, like, three or four days a week. And he would, like, saran wrap it, you know? and it would be, like, a pretty basic sandwich, except he would make it, like, literally, like, Dagwood style, you know?

Peter : Like, it would just be, like, stacked with so much stuff.

matt: oh Oh, nice.

Peter : And then there was something in the saran wrapping it, you know, that, like, marinated everything because he had to like srabbit up it and I think he was kind of like sneaking them out of the place you know and he would like come to the lunch table and he'd like chuck them to us and it was just like I mean I'm 46 I'm remembering a sandwich from when I was like 16 that was a fucking good fucking sandwich dude that was a fucking good sandwich I've had like

Conor Fowler: they're like warm from a pocket.

Conor Fowler: Yeah. It's a good sandwich. It's a good sandwich, yeah.

matt: Dude, yeah. Yeah. Yeah, that that was one of my...

Peter : thousands of sandwiches since then and like I will still like I'll just be driving by myself and I'll be like I remember when Matt used to bring a sandwich

matt: Oh,

Conor Fowler: fifth

Conor Fowler: I did that shit. I did that shit in high school too. Like, uh...

Peter : I'm not gonna say their last name but it was two brothers Matt and Dan and they were uh they were twins oh my god they were wild dudes but they could make make a sandwich too

Conor Fowler: Oh boy.

matt: Dude, hell yeah. my My favorite part about living in New York was my, like, I lived around the corner from a 24-hour natural grocery store, which was awesome.

Peter : oh wow

matt: And they had an an entire, you know, sandwich counter or whatever. But I would just get stoned as fuck. And I was not vegan or vegetarian then. and And basically go in every night and get, like, whatever weird-ass combination that I could come up with.

Peter : Hell yeah.

matt: And it was so good. And like the dudes knew me, so they would start like joking with me.

Peter : Hell yeah. That's the best.

matt: And like you know but I became a regular.

Peter : That's the best.

matt: And sometimes I'd just be like, maybe whatever. you know just Yeah, yeah.

Peter : I've never heard of a 24-hour natural food store. That's amazing.

matt: it it I guess it was the beginning of the gentrification of Bushwick. Or at least that part of Bushwick.

Peter : Yeah, that's amazing.

matt: But yeah, great ah great spot. i wish I cannot remember the name of it. I think it's still open. But yeah, yeah.

Peter : That's something special.

matt: Just just just coming up with like ridiculous combinations is is something that I... And I still love doing that with sandwiches. like What can I add to this? like

Peter : Right.

matt: what ah you know Is this going to be good on a cinnamon raisin bagel?

Conor Fowler: That's a diabolical question.

Peter : Now you're you automatically dancing with the devil.

matt: I mean, it's

Peter : You narrow and you narrowed narrowed the playing field so quickly.

Conor Fowler: Seriously.

matt: I'm going to say, man, yo, know it ah yeah I'm just saying a sweden yeah yeah that sweet and savory, man, like that's that's it's an unbeatable combination.

Peter : It was like, you know what?

Conor Fowler: it's like that's that excludes so much stuff it's like you can't put mayonnaise

Peter : On my third appearance, I'm not surprised. quickly

Peter : I know the personality.

Peter : Yeah.

Peter : You know what's crazy?

Conor Fowler: you know i swear to god i'm having deja vu i swear we've talked you about this before

Peter : I went to this place I never go for lunch. about

matt: sure we have. Probably. Yeah.

Peter : going to say, i had i went to this weird chicken place for lunch today that I would never go to normally. And they had this hot sauce that was so good.

Conor Fowler: oh

Peter : it's like I've never seen it before in my life. And it was like the best hot sauce. I can't remember the name, but it was like...

Conor Fowler: But why was it a weird chicken place?

Peter : it was it's Okay, it's not a weird chicken place. I would say it's what I would call... a dangerous or a hood chicken place.

Peter : I was being diplomatic.

Conor Fowler: Oh, I see.

matt: Okay. Yeah.

Conor Fowler: I see. I see

Conor Fowler: see I see.

Peter : It was straight up.

Conor Fowler: was thinking like the birds.

Peter : It was a straight up crown fried dude. Do you know that name?

matt: Yeah. Yeah.

Peter : That's like a, it's like mentioned in like rap songs and shit. And they had, it was, it's like the kind of joint where it's like a kebab place. Also like straight up, there was like fucking skewers and shit.

Conor Fowler: Yeah.

Conor Fowler: That's a place that has good food for sure.

matt: ah couple

Peter : But, uh, Oh my God.

matt: yeah

Peter : It was fucking amazing.

matt: Yeah, yeah.

Peter : It was like so good. I was the only person in there and the guy like everything like fresh from you right there.

matt: Fuck yeah.

Peter : But yeah, this, this hot sauce, I was like, damn, I've had a lot of good hot sauce. It was like a hot sauce that it was like tasty. It was like the spice was good. It was sweet, but it tastes so good. I kept wanting eat it, but it was like Fucking my mouth up like so much.

matt: Yeah.

Peter : My mouth was getting cut from the fried chicken. Burned from the hot sauce. But was so good. I kept eating. was like oh fuck.

matt: That's my shit.

Conor Fowler: Dude, that's the that's the experience.

Peter : I was like I'm conscious. That it's. This is damaging the tissue of my mouth. In two different ways. But it tastes so good.

Conor Fowler: Oh yeah.

Peter : I'm i'm going. Again.

matt: Yeah. That's a hot sauce where you like you sweat off a pound while you're eating.

Peter : Oh my god, it was fucking it was it was a crazy hot sauce.

matt: Just like sick.

Conor Fowler: Well, that's like when I got the drunken noodles and the woman put them, put two tablespoons of bird's eye chilies

Peter : like, you look like you want to die.

Conor Fowler: on it He just stooped him. I said, I want to tie Spursley. I was like, I want to tie Spursley. You what I mean?

matt: Yeah.

Conor Fowler: And it was lot. It was lot.

Peter : Oh my god.

Conor Fowler: It was so good,

Peter : I feel like whenever you try to say...

Conor Fowler: but

Peter : When you say spicy at a place like that, they they they take it as like a challenge. You gotta like, no, man.

Conor Fowler: I was challenged.

matt: Dude.

Conor Fowler: I mean, I got an anal fistula, I think shortly thereafter.

Peter : Yeah. Yeah.

Conor Fowler: So like I was challenged and I did it again though.

matt: I've.

Peter : yeah

Conor Fowler: I did it again a few days after I was like, I'm going to get the Drunken Noodles again.

Peter : Man, when i was in my when I was young, I used to be able to eat some hot food, but there's like there's like five meals i can I can narrow it down to, where I have like acid reflux.

Conor Fowler: Well, it wasn't the same him again.

matt: Yeah.

Peter : I ate a curry at this house in in ah India one time, and the only thing... We had to like wash it down was literally like ah Bushmills and waters.

Peter : I like pour my bottled water into a cup, it pour some Bushmills and like throw it in my face.

matt: Wow.

Peter : Cause it's crazy. It was like, Oh my Lord.

matt: see

Conor Fowler: Oh, dude.

matt: That's an experience that I really want to have. like

Peter : Oh, it was heavy. you know what's crazy?

matt: Like I, yeah.

Peter : That place was like my friends. Like, okay. When I went to India, my friends, my, My mom said, you bring him back. Like, he has to come back. Like, that's the one rule.

Peter : um And he took me this guy that was, like, his guru from when he was, like, a younger. that was, like, ah some kind of, like, a I don't know. Like, the guys that, like, deal with, like, death, you know?

Peter : Like, I forget what it's called.

matt: Right.

Peter : Like, a Naga or something. It was intense. There was, like, human skulls around and shit. Yeah. There was dudes doing, like, cuja and, like, sticking their hands in fire and stuff at like ah at, like, a residential house.

matt: Right.

Peter : It was, like, coming to my house. And he was, like, oh. and at And we went for, like, a walk in this graveyard. And, like, it was, like, an intense experience, right? And we go back to his house. And his wife serves this, like, mutton curry.

Peter : Hottest thing I've ever eaten my life. And at the end, he's like, yo, you gotta leave it with me to my friend Bala. I was like, no way. He's like like, I told his mom he's coming back to the united States. He's like, no.

Peter : <unk>s He's staying here. he's like, he's gonna live here. like at this house.

Peter : And this is, you're like, I'm talking four hours and drinking Bushmills and water.

matt: Yeah. Fuck yeah

Peter : Oh my god. But I made it back. It was an experience, though.

matt: yeah. You did make it back. I

Conor Fowler: I guess we got to go to India, Matt.

Peter : But, yeah. Oh, yeah. It's a...

matt: would love honestly.

Peter : You don't have to go far in India to find, like, a cool experience.

Conor Fowler: Yeah, I think it would be amazing.

Peter : you know the The experience will find you there.

matt: but i would love to try, going back to food for just a second, like I would love to try actual like non-white, extra hot, spicy Indian food.

Peter : Oh, my God.

matt: Because I, like, there's a place in Atlanta called Planet Bombay that, like, has tons of tofu options, and they're all fantastic.

Peter : dude I'm telling you.

Peter : Yeah.

matt: But, like, I get the extra hot, and it's great. But I always want to be like, can you give me the non-white version?

Peter : This was like... you This was like different levels.

Conor Fowler: It

matt: Yeah, yeah. i don't I don't know what it is. Maybe because I smoke, like, full-flavor cigarettes. my you know, I just want...

Peter : Oh, wow. You smoke butts, huh?

matt: Yeah.

Peter : You're a real fucking Georgia man.

matt: Yeah. I smoke cheap full-flavored cigarettes and I drink cheap beer.

Peter : so i why I think that's why Okay, so you drink cheap beer, you drink full-flavored cigarettes, but you're vegan.

matt: Yeah.

Peter : You're living on the edge, yeah.

Conor Fowler: all balances out.

matt: Yeah.

matt: This is my dichotomy.

Peter : i'm okay I'm with it.

matt: Yeah. Yeah. It's a way to live. You know what I mean?

Peter : It's a way to live.

matt: Yeah. Yeah. ah

Conor Fowler: but

matt: but Jesus Christ. This is really fun and freewheeling. Nah,

Peter : I know, no clothes... stuff

matt: dude. This is the late night Apocalypse Duds crew. Including you, Peter.

Peter : I know, and I feel like, i feel like you're quiet.

matt: It's awesome.

Conor Fowler: But we don't, yeah, we don't talk about clothes sometimes.

Peter : I feel like you're quiet tonight, Connor.

Conor Fowler: A little bit. It's late for me. I mean, I'm like, ah

matt: Yeah, I'll be up for another four hours at least.

Conor Fowler: i'm like i like drank, I'm like made a pot of coffee at like seven.

matt: So.

Peter : to To make it through this?

Conor Fowler: Yeah.

Peter : That's hilarious.

Conor Fowler: Yeah.

Peter : I was taking a class at the local community college last semester and I would have to do that.

Conor Fowler: So I'm like...

Peter : Not coffee because I can't drink coffee. But by the end of it, I was drinking like Red Bull. Driving up that way.

Conor Fowler: Yeah. Because I'm taking a summer class like that goes from six to nine.

Peter : Oh, really?

Conor Fowler: Yeah.

Peter : See, this was 6 10.

Conor Fowler: Yeah, it's just dreadful.

Peter : Doing like fucking like algebra. Like like fucking equations and shit at 930 at night.

Conor Fowler: Right, yeah. yeah So let's be excited about that shit.

Peter : Yeah, it was insane. But I made it through. I did it.

matt: What was the c class, dude?

Conor Fowler: I'm almost done. i have 1.5 classes left.

Peter : What's your class?

Conor Fowler: it's a social work class. It's about organizations.

Peter : Oh, cool.

Conor Fowler: It's like, it's like as vague as that basically like an analysis of organizations as concerns social work.

Peter : Yeah.

Conor Fowler: So like rehabs and whatnot, like school systems, of course, or organizations.

Peter : Yeah.

Conor Fowler: So we've talked about a lot of stuff, but it mostly has just been like,

Peter : yeah

Peter : Are you writing or it's like a discussion or.

Conor Fowler: yeah i've been writing and i've been like making presentations and like um writing essays and

Peter : Oh, so yeah, it is writing essays and stuff.

Conor Fowler: yeah it's like it's like i'm doing a i'm doing like a research thing about this organization that i'm supposed to be working for but like i haven't started working for them so i can't really do it

Peter : Oh, well.

Conor Fowler: Yeah, so it's like kind of bizarre, but we're almost done.

matt: Well...

Peter : Wow.

Conor Fowler: Yeah.

Peter : Wow.

matt: Peter, what was the class you were taking last summer?

Peter : This, this, the last semester was like a class to get ready to take college algebra.

matt: Oh, shit. Okay.

Peter : And what's crazy is i took the same class in 1998 and I went to the same room where I took this class. Right. And in 1998, I took like the, the, like the, like ah assessment exam.

matt: Oh, wow.

Peter : Right. But I did like five questions. And I was like, I can't fucking do this. And I left and I never went back to the class.

matt: yes All right, all right.

Conor Fowler: Wow.

Peter : And then I just went and took the same class. And I got an A this semester. In like a like a self-taught.

Conor Fowler: Back on the horse. That's amazing.

Peter : You know, after telling myself I couldn't do math for like 40 years. I taught myself to do math. It was crazy.

Conor Fowler: See, that's amazing because I feel the same way. Like, I don't know how to do math at all.

Peter : ah yeah i You know what, brother?

Conor Fowler: um

Peter : i could teach you to do math. Because you know what?

Conor Fowler: wow

Peter : i When I was in like second grade, I had a teacher who was like na it was like on her way out and kind of checked out and basically said to me, when so you you can't do math.

Peter : And I was like, oh, I can't do math. And then for the rest of my education, I literally like got an F in every math class. I went to summer school first all for like three years in high school or maybe four years in high school.

Conor Fowler: Yeah, I almost didn't graduate from high school because of foundations of college algebra.

Peter : Three years. Yeah, three years. Yeah, and that's what I just took, and I just got an A, and it was like, it wasn't even fucking that hard, and I was like, oh.

matt: Hell yeah.

Conor Fowler: Wow. Look, look it up. That's amazing.

matt: Yeah, yeah, I can do.

Peter : i I was, it was insane.

Conor Fowler: So that's a goal.

Peter : I was like,

Conor Fowler: That's like, a so you do we were supposed to be talking about summertime goals. That's a goal.

Peter : oh, sorry.

matt: Let us go.

Peter : Yeah, it was great. It was like a, you know, I don't know. It was a big human experience where you like overcome something like that.

matt: Right.

Conor Fowler: Well, so what do you, what is the,

Peter : Where you accepted a fact about yourself and you're like, wait, actually, that's not true.

Conor Fowler: yeah so what now that you can do math, what now?

Peter : Now I have to take college algebra.

matt: Ha ha ha.

Conor Fowler: You know, I think you will probably get an A in that class as well.

Peter : i hope. you know You know what's crazy is I took an English composition class the semester before. And we had to write a paper about like, uh, like your success at the community college, what, what that's going to look like.

Conor Fowler: Mm-hmm.

Peter : And it was like written in this like format where you're like, you know, this is like my academic history. This is, uh, the things I believe about myself.

Peter : These are my strengths and weaknesses as a student. You know, these are my study habits. This is my lifestyle. This is my actual life. This is what it's like. This is the essay.

Peter : you Right. Right. And so I wrote it in at the beginning of the semester. And I got like, you know, like a B on the paper, but I have to get an A on this paper because i have to get A in this class for the program I eventually hopefully want to get into.

Peter : Right. So i'm like kind of stressed about it i was like, shit, I got B on that paper.

matt: you

Peter : How can I A? I talked to the professor. He's like, you're getting graded on your writing at the end of the semester, not the beginning of the semester. So was like, okay. But he if you want to rewrite things, you you can always rewrite and resubmit things.

Peter : So I rewrote that paper at the end of the semester also, which is like a really interesting like you know experiment, right? What you say at at the very beginning, like two weeks of this class, and what I said, you know, three months into this class.

Conor Fowler: Right.

Peter : But yeah, I think that that really changed with the way I think about being a student and like studying and writing and approaching the whole thing.

matt: Hell yeah.

Peter : Yeah.

matt: I mean, I feel like

Conor Fowler: So what's the point? What's the program that you're trying to get into?

Peter : um I don't know which one yet.

Conor Fowler: If you want to expose that?

Peter : It's going to be something maybe in like the medical fields that are offered at this community college, but they're all like super competitive programs to get into.

Conor Fowler: yeah

Conor Fowler: and yeah yeah yeah which you will

Peter : have to essentially get straight A's in everything.

Peter : you know, in January, and I was like, is that possible? And now I'm like, okay, it's possible.

Conor Fowler: yeah that's excellent that's so wholesome

Peter : Yeah. Yeah.

matt: It is. It is. And I feel like because of what you do and what you've experienced in life, like you come off as a just student in general, like you love learning.

Peter : Yeah, it's really funny, because rap my wife is like,

Conor Fowler: I'm surprised you gotta be. I'm surprised you gotta fucking be writing about your own life.

Peter : Yeah, it was more like, ah i think the professor was kind of like, a I think if anybody else in the class had handed it in, they wouldn't have gotten a B.

Conor Fowler: Yeah.

matt: I got you.

Conor Fowler: That's what I'm saying. Cause it seems like.

Peter : I think I was already getting graded on curve.

Conor Fowler: Right. Right.

Conor Fowler: Because you're a good storyteller.

Peter : But yeah.

Conor Fowler: You're a good storyteller.

Peter : Yeah.

Conor Fowler: And what are you more expert about than your own life?

matt: get it.

Peter : Yeah.

matt: I get

Peter : Yeah. I think he just wanted more effort for me in us so in certain areas.

matt: again

Peter : Yeah.

Conor Fowler: Yeah.

Peter : He was letting me slide through easy.

Conor Fowler: Good for him. Stickler.

Peter : Yeah, no, he was great.

Conor Fowler: Yeah.

Peter : I had a really great teacher in that first class. And I think it was, I think that that was like pretty pretty pivotal in the school experience. Just having that teacher. It was like the first professor where i was like, or even teacher where i was like, oh, this person like thinks I'm like a smart person.

matt: Right.

Peter : yeah like ah

Conor Fowler: Yeah.

Peter : Which was always like,

Conor Fowler: Well, that's a,

Peter : But I was going to say my wife, who you know has like a master's degree and is a smarty pants, and that's why I in married to her and like her and stuff.

Peter : shizley She's like, I'm not surprised, Peter. like You're like a scholar. And I was like, I'm me? She's like, yeah, you. right, yeah.

Conor Fowler: ah so you hear it you hear Well, you hear it multiple times, right?

matt: I can see it. I can see it.

Conor Fowler: it's like

Peter : yeah

Conor Fowler: ah that's I mean, that I think is ah is a is a valid assessment of you, like from what I know anyway.

Peter : That's so funny. Yeah.

matt: Yeah, totally. Totally. I mean, you know.

Conor Fowler: but you did i guess you went to high school.

Peter : Yeah.

Conor Fowler: You graduated from high school.

Peter : I graduated from high school, but I went to art school, and then I like and then i went to liberal arts school, but I dropped out after probably like five semesters, and i like that's when I like went into like the Zen temple and all this stuff.

Conor Fowler: Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Conor Fowler: Right, right. Where you were, where you were, dot, dot, dot question mark, a student.

Peter : Yeah, right? Yeah. so ah

Conor Fowler: You're student life.

Peter : A real weirdo, like we said at beginning.

Conor Fowler: Right, exactly. As it's established.

matt: Yeah, yeah. This is why we're all friends.

Peter : Established. Real weirdo.

matt: All of us. ah how's ah How's tattooing right now?

Peter : I mean, God, it's rough.

matt: Yeah. Yeah.

Peter : I mean, our our economy is thoroughly ruined, right?

matt: It seems like it.

Conor Fowler: Yeah.

Peter : In work.

matt: Yeah.

Peter : And we are the disposable income economy.

Conor Fowler: Yeah.

Peter : So, it ain't what it used to be.

Conor Fowler: It's tight.

matt: Yeah. I mean, i feel like I hear that from everyone that I know that works in any type of like service industry.

Conor Fowler: i just it I just wish it would be cheaper.

Peter : Yeah, it ain't the money days anymore. Me and driving Cadillacs are throwing cash out the windows anymore.

matt: Right. Right.

Conor Fowler: Yeah. Yeah.

Peter : Windows are rolled up!

Conor Fowler: Right. Right.

Peter : cash inside.

Conor Fowler: Right.

Peter : yeah.

matt: Yeah, i mean, i you know I see the stuff that you post, though, and you're doing good shit.

Peter : But yeah, it's crazy. I mean, I'm I'm doing algebra at the community college.

matt: Right. This is true. This is true.

Peter : That tells you anything about tattoo industry. Yeah.

Conor Fowler: right row Yeah, dude, it's wild.

Peter : yeah

Conor Fowler: I mean, because so everyone is banking on social workers being employable because the world is so shitty. But of course, the administration is actively defunding and declassifying social workers.

Peter : is even shittier. Yeah.

Conor Fowler: So yeah, we'll see what happens.

Peter : Oh my God. in fucking insane dude but a why lea What a time to be alive.

matt: What a fucking time to be in that.

Conor Fowler: I want to learn. i want to learn how to juggle. i think that. Yeah, I think that would be a useful step.

Peter : It ain't good.

Peter : Yeah. I mean, the juggling days are over, my friend.

Conor Fowler: What about all the old standbys?

Peter : when i went to you know When I went to University of Connecticut, there was a there was a puppetry program there.

Conor Fowler: Oh, boy.

Peter : and there were And it was legit.

Conor Fowler: And you know I'm in a puppet show.

Peter : legit i mean like it was like people that ended up like you know working for like Jim Henson and shit. But it was like there's a legit puppetry program.

Conor Fowler: Yeah, it's real.

Peter : yeah

Conor Fowler: Yeah, it's, uh,

Peter : I think it was the only one in the country. Like a university level.

Conor Fowler: that sounds about right.

Peter : That's what I'd like to be doing right now.

Conor Fowler: do it making puppets.

Peter : Yeah, I wish that which the economy was like that.

Conor Fowler: Do you remember the show on Comedy Central, Crank Yankers?

matt: you

Peter : Oh,

Conor Fowler: I think that's come over in this show before. What an abysmal time. ah But those are puppets.

Peter : oh my God, right.

Conor Fowler: I mean, therere there are not many puppets in the adult space.

Peter : Yeah.

Peter : Right. Yeah, it's not the widely most widely marketable skill I would feel.

Conor Fowler: Puppetry.

Peter : Yeah.

Conor Fowler: uh probably not i mean like even puppetry of the penis the australian duo uh yeah they're even they probably are not selling out huge auditoriums

Peter : How did I know it was going come to that? I knew was going to come. I think that was about a six-month run those guys had.

Conor Fowler: yeah well uh they are australian so they get what they get i guess

Peter : my God. Guys, you know what I did today?

matt: What's that?

Peter : This relates to clues. i i I did some crazy repairs on my... I got um some US Navy like ah deck overalls.

Peter : Like the like wind ones.

Conor Fowler: Mm-hmm.

matt: Oh, yeah.

Conor Fowler: Yeah.

Peter : You know what's crazy? When I bought them, I didn't realize they're from World War II for some reason. It just had not fucking occurred to me that they're from World War II.

matt: Oh, shit.

matt: they ah Are they the olive drab version?

Peter : Yeah, well, I don't know what the original color is because they're like a super like fine corduroy when you actually hold them.

matt: Yeah, yeah. to

matt: Yeah, they're called...

Peter : One pair is like a super fine corduroy and they're like lined with wool.

matt: Yeah, it's called Jungle Claw. And it's like, yeah, it's the best.

Peter : Yeah, it's like real nice. Yeah, because ah all I had to repair was like like one of the cuffs is like ripped and i repaired that, but the rest is kind of like, I'm like, damn, this this is like

matt: Yeah.

matt: Okay, not bad.

Peter : Almost twice as old as I am, or it is twice as old as I am.

matt: Yeah.

Peter : It is crazy. And then i bought like and another pair made of like the like lighter material. It's just like one layer.

matt: Yeah. Yeah.

Peter : you know like More like a jungle weight kind of thing, but it's the same same pants.

matt: Hell yeah. They're like, we haven't really.

Peter : So saying to Connor, I'm regressing in my menswear on the menswear, like evolutionary chart.

Conor Fowler: Right. Yeah.

matt: i mean, is, is that a regression though? Like, yeah.

Peter : I'm going back. I'm going into the yeah work where military.

Conor Fowler: i mean, overall is like associated with the child in a way, but it's also associated with the adult.

Peter : Yeah.

Peter : Yeah. yeah No, I meant more like it looks like it seems like people go like the kind of like, like leather boots and jeans. Workwear, military, uh, uh, prep, IV tailoring, fine tailoring.

matt: Yeah, yeah.

Peter : That seems like it's like the progression.

matt: Dude. Yeah, yeah. And then you you eventually, at least in my case, go back to what like what really drew me to clothes in general. which is Which is the shit that I can destroy, but it takes a lot longer to destroy.

Peter : Right.

matt: Yeah.

Peter : Right. Man, these overalls, I'm like, damn, I don't think I...

matt: Yeah.

Peter : I was like being kind of like precious with them at first, but I was like...

matt: No, fuck no.

Peter : After working on them, I was like, damn, this is like the most... like Hard piece of clothing I've ever.

matt: Yeah, yeah.

Peter : into is like that To like even try and like stitch through them to like repair it was like so hard. I had like two thimbles on like the Japanese thimble on one finger and the metal thimble on another finger.

Peter : I'm like, was still getting stabbed. and

matt: Yeah, that, like, that cloth is pretty much bomb-proof.

Peter : Heavy material.

matt: yeah, it's one of the best, it's one of the best materials I've, I've like had the pleasure of handling and yeah, it really is.

Peter : I've never felt anything like it.

Peter : Yeah, it's pretty amazing stuff. It's really one of the most amazing garments I've ever, like, touched.

matt: And

matt: yeah, it's also one of those garments. Like we've talked with Charles about this, but like it's one of the hardest to reproduce because it's so unique.

Peter : It's... The fucking details are just mind-blowing. Like, what it must have took to produce one pair of those is amazing.

matt: Right.

matt: Totally.

Peter : Yeah, it's really, really cool. Like, every part of it is pretty amazing.

matt: Yeah.

Peter : There's, like, this one, like, little strap button at the bottom that I realized is so you can kind of cinch it together.

matt: Yeah.

Peter : So, like, the white, it's wide enough to put it on, but once you put it on, you, like, cinch it up at the bottom. And it's just, it's so perfect. It just, like, hangs in, like, the perfect, like, cool way when you're not using it.

matt: Yeah.

Peter : But then when you buckle it, you're like, oh, it's it's fucking perfect.

matt: Hell yeah. It's funny that you're repairing these and it's hot as fuck.

Peter : Oh, God, it's so cool. Oh, yeah. It was, like, it was brutal. Like, even in an air-conditioned room, like, handling them, they're, like, they weigh, like, 15 pounds, you know?

matt: Oh yeah.

matt: Yep.

Peter : Like, every time you turn them inside out, it's, like, a workout. But, yeah, cool. and And I bought them at this cool-ass vintage store near here that's only open, like, one day a week.

Peter : And I, like, went in and I had been, like, Because it's like the kind of pants like Nigel Caborn were would wear a lot, right? So it's like right around when he passed away.

matt: Right.

Peter : I'm like, I'm cute. For months even before, I had been like, kept looking at him online. I'd like see like reproductions. i was like, damn, should buy these? I'd see like a cheap reproduction. I'd be like, oh, should i buy these? I could like wear them to work and stuff.

Peter : I went to so like different vintage stores and stuff. And I never saw them anywhere. But I went to this one place.

Conor Fowler: All right.

Peter : And as soon as I walked in, I saw on the rack, I was like, no fucking way. And I opened up the rack and there's like a navy blue pair. There's this like double layer, like wool line pair.

Peter : There's like the jungle white pair. There's like a one that's like white. Like it was like, I don't even know what it was. Like winter camo shit. I never, id never seen it before. I was like, holy shit. i was like, there's four pairs.

Peter : And I looked at the size. They're all a large. i was like, what the fuck, dude? Like, even on eBay, they're all, like, a small like, a medium.

matt: Hell yeah.

matt: Yeah, yeah.

Peter : I was like, fuck, man. was like, I looked at the price. was like, Jesus. I went through the whole store. and went out to my car. And I'm, like, about to drive away. I didn't buy them.

Peter : And I texted my brother. i was like, damn. I was like, I just looked the this vintage store. There's, like, these World War II, like, U.S. Navy overalls. He's like, you got them? And i was like, no, I didn't get them. was like, why didn't you get them? was like, I don't know. I don't wear overalls that much. He's like, yeah, once you wear overalls, you you'll wear overalls a lot. And was like, ah he's like, go get them. And i was like I was like, you know what? He's right.

matt: Yeah. Yeah.

Peter : You know what? If it's at ah at a vintage store, if it's at a second hand store, if it's there, it's your size, you gotta fuck.

matt: Yep.

Peter : You'll think about it for the rest of your fucking life.

matt: You will.

Peter : Why didn't I fucking get it?

matt: And then you'll go back we'll be a week later and I'll be gone.

Peter : it It'll be gone. And I went and I got the like white weight pair.

matt: Yeah.

Peter : I was like, you know what? The double layer pair. am I going to fucking wear them? It's like it's summer, whatever. i'm not going wear them. I'll just get these. These are kind of slightly more reasonable price.

Peter : And, uh, For the next week, I just thought about the fucking double layer pair.

matt: Dude.

Peter : I had, like, tried them on and I took a picture of myself. I was like, fuck!

matt: If you...

Conor Fowler: Uh...

matt: Yo, if you guys get some wild wild weather this winter, they're gonna come in clutch.

Peter : Yeah. Oh, dude, I'm so excited.

matt: Yeah. I have a

Peter : But so then I went back a week later and it opens at noon. It's only open on Sunday from, like, noon to four, this store. that was there at, like, noon. And I walked in and and the guy's like, Hey, what's up, man?

matt: Nice! Nice!

Peter : He like remembered me from the week before. And was like, I want those pants. He's like, Oh, cool. Like you the guy is like, cool as fucking hell.

matt: Hell yeah.

Peter : Um, uh, he's real stoked.

matt: I'm gonna say, too, he he was so psyched that someone bought that in the dead of summer.

Peter : And let me tell you part of it was I went on eBay and this guy's selling them for like half the fucking price that they are on fucking eBay. I was like, I'm fucking dumb.

Peter : I gotta fucking get back there.

matt: Yep.

Peter : My wife was like, call him up and tell him to hold him. I was like, no, i'm just gonna go back on Sunday. I'm not that much of a psycho. Yes, I am. But...

Conor Fowler: Yeah, I was gonna

Conor Fowler: you gotta do what you gotta do. I mean,

Peter : Oh, I did it. I did it. So I got two pairs of those.

matt: Fuck yeah.

Peter : two see i got full i got four seasons of fucking usn deck overalls.

matt: There you go. There you go. and And we get...

Peter : I could, the even the, the, um though the, like, not double lined ones. I got, i I actually did already wear them when it was super hot out.

Peter : I was just like joking around with my wife and I had those Patagonia baggies on and ah and I threw them on over that and then I had them on for like three hours.

Conor Fowler: Thank you.

Peter : i was like, actually, these are way practical pants.

matt: Fuck yeah.

Peter : Yeah.

matt: Yeah. when When it's monsooning, like fucking wear them.

Peter : Yeah.

matt: They're great.

Peter : That's the other thing is that those ones are that material where it's like so tightly woven. It's basically like waterproof also.

matt: Yeah.

Peter : Like I feel like you would like float in these fucking things if you got like enough air in them before you hit the water. They're like so crazy. And I'm so glad I didn't buy any of the like reproduction pairs.

matt: Yeah, yeah, that's...

Peter : Because there's just no way.

matt: the I do not shit on repros, because especially if you're, like, a bigger size, they're great.

Peter : Yeah, that well, that's the thing is I thought I was going to have to because the sizing is, i mean, people used to be smaller, so I guess they made way more small pairs, right?

matt: Yeah. Yeah. Well, also, not not to be a downer, but, like, a lot of the people that wore those originally were literal children, and, like, late

Peter : Yeah, right. That's the thing.

matt: You know, they like they were set 17, 18.

Peter : So large, larges are hard to come by.

matt: Yeah.

Peter : Sorry, my dog is like, i just let my dog out and she's, I don't know. Lingering, but doing some kind of inspecting by the door.

matt: it's great. It's great.

Conor Fowler: Yeah, that's what it's all. Right.

matt: Yeah.

Peter : She's got to do her nighttime patrol.

matt: Of course. Of course. Also, we got to say RIP Nigel Caborn. Yeah.

Peter : i know. RIP Nitro Game Award. The whole reason I'm on this, I was on this pants quest.

matt: Yeah.

matt: Yeah, dude.

Peter : It's so funny. I saw him on that, or I listened to his Throwing Fits episode, and then I saw like pictures of him after. I was like, damn those fucking

matt: Yeah.

Peter : And it was that was like three years ago. um I was always like, God, could I wear those?

matt: Right.

Peter : Can I wear those?

matt: Yeah.

Peter : Can I do that?

matt: he would He was a fucking giant. And like, you know, just...

Peter : Yeah.

matt: ah

Peter : And it's such a it's such a style. like That like silhouette he does is so cool.

matt: God, yeah, yeah. like Like, even, you know, I felt like he was one of those dudes, like Patrick Stewart, that's looked old forever.

Peter : Yeah, right?

matt: and And it, like...

Peter : But, you know, it's crazy because he is... There's so many ah eras of niel Nigel K. Bourne. If you look at him in like the 70s and 80s, it looks like a fucking different dude.

matt: Right, right.

Peter : Like, completely different dude.

matt: Yeah. As long as I've known who he is, he's looked older, and it, like, It just added to his allure and how he wore clothes.

Peter : Yeah, exactly. yeah

matt: Like, you know, if if you look a certain age, you can pretty much get away with whatever.

Peter : Yeah. This is so wild keeping Connor up. um I've never heard you. so I've never seen you so quiet, my friend. I'll never do this to you again, Connor.

Conor Fowler: No, I'm just...

Peter : We're going to do a 7 a.m. episode next time.

Conor Fowler: Well, then I'm like, then I'm like, can't get in my life.

matt: Then I will be the quiet one because I haven't had enough coffee.

Conor Fowler: Yeah, and Matt

Peter : that's not That's not good. you Oh, Matt. So we're going to do it dead afternoon.

matt: Yeah, afternoon is...

Conor Fowler: would be... that's why we do the afternoon.

matt: need...

Conor Fowler: I mean, it's like...

Peter : We gotta do a Monday.

Conor Fowler: ah

Peter : you know, if we if we do it on a Monday next time, on Monday I can I just can't believe I've never seen Conor be so quiet.

matt: Yeah, but we'll work it out. and it's it Dude, this has been fun. This is just like, i don't know. Yeah.

Peter : It's like, it's scaring it's like scaring me.

Conor Fowler: It's, ah it's, well, it's nine, it's 930.

Peter : Like, slightly disturbing. too!

Conor Fowler: It's like, ah you've been, I've been smoking weed all day.

Peter : I started at goddamn 6 a.m., brother.

Conor Fowler: Right.

Conor Fowler: Right, right, right.

matt: There we go.

Peter : Did a CrossFit workout? Come on.

Conor Fowler: no

matt: Oh, oh, oh, we go.

Peter : I'm ready to go.

Conor Fowler: We wanted to talk about, we wanted to talk about hot dog versus CrossFit.

Peter : What's hot dog?

Conor Fowler: Well, the desire, the human desire to eat a hot dog versus CrossFit.

Peter : To eat hot dogs? Well, that's why we do CrossFit.

Conor Fowler: I see.

Peter : That's why i do CrossFit.

Conor Fowler: So it's causal.

Peter : So I can eat my hot dog.

Conor Fowler: Wow, dude.

matt: Wait, does Rhode Island have like legendary hot dogs? Am I missing something?

Peter : we have it We do have a, we do have a ah yeah, we have a, no, the steamed bun isn't the isn't the, I would say, the selling point or the differ differentiating factor of this hot dog.

Conor Fowler: They have the steamed buns, right? Yeah.

Peter : oh It's called what? A New York System wiener. And here's the thing. I grew up in Rhode Island all my life and never really had one until I was like in my 20s.

Conor Fowler: Wow.

matt: Okay.

Peter : it's kind of I don't really like them. i I get, like, a tummy ache every time. It's, like, guaranteed tummy ache. And it's, like, a weird tummy ache where like, fuck, dude. I shouldn't did that.

Peter : But it's like a it's, like, a hot dog. But it's this particular kind of hot dog. It's kind of, like, pinkish. It's, like, snappy.

matt: Okay, yeah.

Peter : And then it is on, like, a steamed bun. And then it has, like, a quote-unquote kind of, like, chili sauce. It's, like, more like just, like, a like a spiced meat sauce kind of thing.

matt: Okay.

Peter : Like black coffee is one of the ingredients of it, you know?

matt: Oh, okay.

Conor Fowler: It's

Peter : So it's like meat sauce. It's like cooked in like a big pot with like, what looks like tea bags of like spice stuff. um And then that and like onions on it.

Peter : And that's like the, that's the New York system leader.

matt: Okay.

Peter : And people eat them like, you know, four or five them in a row.

matt: All right.

Peter : like a coffee milk and that's the New York system I do not know what the fuck that name could possibly come from and why are they in Rhode Island and it's called the New York system they don't have those like in in New York it's like strictly like a Rhode Island thing I think maybe like on the edges of can like Connecticut and like Massachusetts you might find like one or two places but it's really a Rhode Island thing and it's like you order them

matt: Wow.

Conor Fowler: the new york it's the New York what wiener?

Conor Fowler: Huh.

Conor Fowler: Interesting. Right.

matt: ah Right, right.

Conor Fowler: Right. What's like around here, the the

Peter : You know, you come and you say, three all the way. that means, like, with all the fucking nastiness on there.

Conor Fowler: I love it when they have special orderings.

Peter : And then you drink it with coffee milk. A lot of times people drink a coffee milk with it, which is just another level of gnarliness.

Conor Fowler: Wow.

matt: That sounds... what?

Conor Fowler: That's... I don't want to use the D word again, but that sounds diabolical.

Peter : It's pretty fucking puggle, brother.

matt: Yeah, goddammit.

Peter : And another part of it is when you get them... at the place, right, they make them, like, in mass, right? They have all the hot dogs lined up on the grill constantly going.

Conor Fowler: I'm looking this shit up

Peter : There's, like, always, like, 50 hot dogs on the grill going. And there's all these buns steaming. And you say how many you want. Say there's four guys with you, and everybody gets, like, three.

Peter : That's, like, 12 hot dogs, right? The guy lines them up his arm. But there's a glove that goes up to here, right?

matt: Right, right.

Peter : And for everybody listening, I'm pointing about four inches up my arm. And that's more than... That's what three hot dogs make it on the glove. And then the real lucky ones

Conor Fowler: Three hot dogs make it on the glow.

Peter : ah but are up the arm.

Conor Fowler: Three hot dogs make it on the glow.

matt: Yeah.

Peter : the

matt: It doesn't taste as good with a little perspiration.

Peter : oh yeah Unless it's such a little arm hair, you don't want to fucking New York system. weer

Conor Fowler: That's part of the system, I think.

matt: Okay. Yeah.

Peter : Yeah, there's no taste on those ones with the glove.

matt: Wait.

Conor Fowler: But so,

Peter : If you get raw forearm, woof that's there where the flavor is.

Conor Fowler: okay

matt: Thank

Conor Fowler: so it says New York system, New York system hot wiener, but it wasn't until after I tried the latter that I realized

Peter : Yeah.

Conor Fowler: it's the differences that really turn me on.

Peter : yeah

Conor Fowler: Both regional styles of tubular meat smothered with even more meat are served, quote, all the way, end quote. Both were sold first to mill workers by Greek immigrant cooks in 20s and have geographically misleading names with a legion of fiercely loyal followers.

Peter : Yeah.

Peter : It's so funny because New England has all these foods that are kind of... They all have that origin. It's like something cheap that some immigrant group served to another immigrant group that was working in a mill.

Peter : Because there's this ah from fall river there's a thing called the chop suey sandwich.

matt: Oh, God, yeah,

Peter : Where it's literally like a hamburger bun and they put like chop suey in the middle. And they serve to you.

matt: yeah.

Conor Fowler: Wow.

matt: Yeah. Yeah.

Peter : it's again... fucking diabolical, but it was like ah something you could make for, i don't know, when in like the nineteen twenty s or 30s for like two cents or something and serve and sell it for four cents and become like a fucking millionaire.

matt: Right, right.

Conor Fowler: And now cost $10.

matt: Wait.

Peter : Yeah, now it would start at 10 bucks, right? Oh my God.

matt: It would. It would.

Peter : got to look. I wonder how much a chop suey sandwich is right now. That's scary to think about.

matt: Yeah. Yeah.

Peter : Yeah, everything is $15.

matt: I mean,

Peter : Everything is insane.

matt: if

Peter : Oh god. Even $12,

matt: it's wild. It's really wild. Like, if you know, like are a burrito should cost $10 to $12.

Peter : you're... everything is insane

matt: No more.

Peter : oh my god even twelve dollars yourre you

Conor Fowler: Because

matt: Yeah, 12 is...

Peter : $12, you're talking crazy.

matt: Yeah, yeah.

Peter : You've lived in this fucking...

Conor Fowler: you know what goes into it.

Peter : You've lived in this fucking capitalist dystopia too long. A $12 burrito?

matt: it's... Yeah.

Peter : Somebody should go to fucking jail. That's fucking crazy.

Conor Fowler: is beans.

Peter : that you That's not the fucking point of that food.

Conor Fowler: It's beans and rice. Yeah.

matt: Yeah.

Peter : It's to cost $15.

Conor Fowler: I don't like that one.

Peter : Yeah. Yeah.

Conor Fowler: Like what is worse? An $8 taco.

Peter : yeah

matt: Oh, God. Yeah.

Conor Fowler: It's so offensive.

matt: Oh, 100%. Yeah.

Conor Fowler: It's so offensive.

Peter : It's insane.

Conor Fowler: And...

Peter : it's ah That's not the point of that food.

matt: Yeah. the

Peter : That's not what that food is for.

Conor Fowler: So what are we going to do even? There's nothing to do.

Peter : it's like It's like oxtail. Oxtail used to be fucking cheap.

Conor Fowler: ru Right.

matt: Yeah, because it was like...

Peter : You go to a Jamaican place, it's like fucking a $40 plate.

Conor Fowler: Even pork shoulder.

Peter : A $40 meal and served in styrofoam.

matt: Yeah.

Peter : What the fuck are we talking about?

Conor Fowler: Even pork shoulder is extremely expensive. It's like pork shoulder used to be 99 cents a pound.

Peter : It's insane. This country's gone insane.

Conor Fowler: And that was like five years ago.

Peter : This country's gone insane.

Conor Fowler: the dogs, I say.

matt: Yeah.

Peter : I'm telling you.

matt: I'll say like my my biggest revelation about this was with coffee Cafe Bustelo coffee.

Peter : hold on, guys.

matt: Oh, you're good.

Peter : I gotta to call my dog. I'm sorry.

Conor Fowler: It's

matt: You're good.

Peter : Olive.

Conor Fowler: <unk> a good dog name.

matt: That is a good dog name.

Peter : Jesus Christ.

matt: I drink Cafe Bustelo.

Peter : Where she went? Yeah.

matt: i get the I get the brick, which used to be 16 ounces. And the the Kroger grocery stores in the city would often have them two for $5.

Peter : Yeah.

matt: This was like 20.

Peter : And they trim that thing down.

matt: twenty Yeah, this was 2020 and before. ah Now it is 10 ounces for $7.

Peter : God.

matt: And then I'm just like, like i i buy it because it's the cheapest option.

Peter : Yeah.

matt: and And I like it. you know i'm not I'm not particular, but I'm just like, this is absurd.

Peter : It's so crazy.

matt: And that that is was in with like three years.

Peter : Yeah.

matt: You know?

Peter : There's nothing is cheap.

matt: Yeah.

Peter : As my friend was saying, the weed's cheaper than ever.

matt: Yeah.

matt: Dude. Dude.

Conor Fowler: That is true. That is true. I bought a pound for $400. Yeah. Yeah.

Peter : How is that?

Conor Fowler: Yeah. know.

Peter : ah What?

Conor Fowler: yeah

Peter : A pound. That's crazy, dude.

matt: Yeah, yeah. Like, all and

Peter : That used to be four G's, dude. $4,500. $4,500.

matt: I'll say, like, beer also hasn't gone up.

Peter : forty-five hundred

Conor Fowler: i know

Peter : That used to be the going rate. What the fucking hell?

matt: Yeah.

Peter : This country is upside fucking down.

matt: It's so wild. Like, we're just trying, we're we're all trying to survive and, like, enjoy our lives to a point, and then

Peter : It's crazy.

Peter : It's so crazy. It's like people who I, who like, you know, you know, make like money and you're like, talk to them and they're like complaining about money. dude.

matt: Right.

Conor Fowler: Right.

Peter : This is crazy.

matt: Right.

Conor Fowler: Right.

matt: Yeah. Yeah.

Peter : Like, you're not supposed to fucking...

matt: My working class ass is just like, all right.

Peter : I know.

matt: and

Peter : You're not supposed to be complaining about money right now.

matt: nothing

Conor Fowler: Yeah, seriously.

Peter : I'm terrified.

matt: ah So one, uh, one question to kind of finish this off, Peter, what have you been listening to music wise lately?

Peter : It's crazy. What's that?

Peter : Oh, man. I've been listening some weird shit lately. um

matt: Okay. Okay.

Peter : think I've been on, like, kind of folk kick. I can tell you right now. Let me look at my playlist right now. You know what song I'm into right now? Like, if you were, if you're, I was walking down the street and one of those TikTok people came up and they were like, what's your favorite song right now?

Peter : are you listening to right now? That song, Small Town Boy by Bronski Beat. You know that song?

matt: No, I don't actually.

Peter : You gotta to look it up. When you hear it you'll know it. It's like kind of like a, like 90s, like dance song, but it's like about like, you know,

matt: Okay.

Peter : Like a young man leaving his hometown and discovering the fruits of the world. But it's such a banger.

matt: Okay.

Peter : But it's like very like, I don't know, 90s like dance kind of song.

matt: Nice.

Conor Fowler: It's a gay anthem, like we're in Wikipedia.

Peter : but I don't know. I've been listening a lot of Chilino Sanchez lately. a lot of Willie Watson lately. a band called Los Delamarca. I'm into something called Tombados and Corritos right now.

Peter : So like kind of Mexican music. And Corritos is kind of the older version of it. And then Tombados is kind of the modern version of it.

matt: This is an odd question, but have you listened to a dude named Junior H, i believe?

Peter : No. Uh-uh.

matt: so he's like uh it was like the record of the summer for some friends of mine a couple years ago and he like i think he does trap music but he has a lot of like very um he's done a lot of like very traditional mexican style jams and yeah yeah but

Peter : Okay.

Peter : Oh, wow. So that might be this kind of music because that's kind of what this is.

matt: Oh, sick.

Peter : It's kind of like, it's like,

matt: Yeah, yeah, yeah. hit All of his record covers look like they're like and a fucking Dirty South Rap record cover in front.

Peter : yeah, because Corritos is kind of like, it's like the music maybe that was more like, it's like this kind of like storytelling.

matt: And it's awesome.

Peter : like guitars and accordions kind of music.

matt: Yeah, yeah.

Peter : Maybe sometimes with like even like a full like brass band ah part two.

Conor Fowler: Sure.

matt: That sounds awesome.

Peter : um But it's like really like lyrical. you know It's like really based on like the words and what they're saying. They're like telling this story.

matt: Oh,

Peter : And then itll in and then there's this element where it's like it's really about like narco-trafficking and like about like gangsters and like these stories.

Conor Fowler: That's what was going to say. in Narco Corridos. Yeah.

Peter : Yeah, there's that Norteño, narco-corrito side also. And then Tombados is the kids now who, you know, it's guys that look like they're in...

Peter : They're like trap rappers, but they pull out a 12-string guitar, and they're doing something.

matt: that sounds sick.

Peter : like kind of It's kind of like in between

matt: Yeah.

Peter : It's really cool.

matt: Yeah, that sounds awesome. Please send me some recommendations.

Peter : But yeah. you know It's like straight up, I was like in line at the burrito place where I go, and they always have this music channel on, and I would just like Shazam stuff. it just sent me down this fucking rabbit hole.

Peter : I got into this band called Ghostos Carnales and it was over.

matt: Hell yeah.

Peter : People are... When they're getting tattooed by me, people who are Latino people are always like... I know his people don't ask if I am Latino or Dominican.

Peter : They say, you're Dominican, which I'm totally not. I just see, like, a black dude listening to music in Spanish, and and they can they can, like, kind of speak a little Spanish, and they're like, you're Dominican?

Conor Fowler: right.

matt: Right.

Peter : And I'm like, not at all.

Conor Fowler: Your spin is probably pretty good. If I had to guess.

Peter : What'd you say?

Conor Fowler: Your spin is probably pretty good.

Peter : No, not really. you know, I'm a little, it's a little spoiled because I'm i'm pretty decent at Italian, So really I really fuck up and I just start saying Italian words to people.

Peter : And it takes me so long stand there and translate.

matt: Nah.

matt: you

Conor Fowler: That's funny.

Peter : Yeah.

Conor Fowler: Yeah, dude, that's but they're i don't know their romance languages.

Peter : But in my job, I i i have like a like a on my wall, I have like a chart of my like Spanish phrases to get through a tattoo with somebody that speaks zero English.

Peter : Which is crazy.

Conor Fowler: so you've ta i mean So you've tattooed someone who doesn't speak English, presumably communicating with them in Spanish, right?

Peter : Oh, all the time.

Peter : Yeah. Oh yeah. I can do that.

Conor Fowler: So your Spanish is pretty good.

Peter : I, I like no, i have like, I have like 20 phrases that can get you from beginning to end on a tattoo with a person that speaks no English.

matt: Oh, that's so good.

Peter : if They speak Spanish. Yeah. Yeah.

Peter : Yeah. That's my, that's my special skill at the tattoo shop. Yeah.

matt: Well, ah Peter, dude, thank you for coming on again and shooting the ship shoot with us.

Peter : Guys, it's always a pleasure.

matt: Yeah, yeah. It will not be the last time. And yeah, it's always fun and freewheeling.

Peter : yeah, anytime.

matt: So um tell everyone where they can follow your awesome tattoo page.

Conor Fowler: Yeah.

Peter : You can find me at Don Pietro Tattoo on Instagram.

matt: And if you're into tattoos, do it.

Peter : And for more like... ah family vibes and I really should get back into taking pictures of different outfits I can find me at Threadbearer and Rumpel.

matt: Hell yeah. Yeah. He's Peter is just a long time homie and a good fucking dude. And yeah, I gotta to say also not pretty good.

Peter : Yeah. Not bad.

matt: Not bad. Can't complain. No, dude.

Conor Fowler: Right.

Peter : Hey. Hell yeah.

matt: Yeah. You and the,

Peter : You know what's crazy? i just bought a John Prine sticker today.

matt: Fuck yeah! Nice. Nice.

Peter : I got a sick one. It's just like, you know those like oval stickers where it's like a place. It'll be like such and such beach like L Y, but, but it just says prime.

matt: Yeah! Yeah!

Peter : It's the fucking greatest sticker of all time.

Conor Fowler: Oh, that's nice. Yeah.

matt: Oh, that's fantastic. Fuck yeah.

Conor Fowler: yeah

Peter : It's the best sticker. Cause it's like only heads like know what that means. and like the coolest, like old people will like talk to you in a parking lot.

matt: Right, right.

Peter : They're like, hell yeah, dude.

matt: Dude, absolutely. Yeah, yeah.

Peter : I have a bumper sticker on my car. That's uh, it says, what does it say? uh too dumb for new york city too ugly for la is waylon jennings and that's another funny one because you i like the amount of people i see like like standing in my car at the back of my car in like a parking lot like smiling and like nodding their head was like that's so funny yeah oh yeah

Conor Fowler: i

matt: That's great.

Conor Fowler: I think I want to get a John Brown sticker to put on my guitar. Yeah, but I don't know. I feel like they're like, I don't want one that's like, ugh.

matt: Yeah.

Peter : i have ah have a I have a Hassan Piker john brown go John Brown Gun Club hat.

Conor Fowler: Right.

matt: Nice.

Conor Fowler: Right. Fuck yeah.

matt: Nice. Yeah.

Peter : I got my Smash Ice shirt on right now.

Conor Fowler: right fuck

matt: The only sticker I have on my car is one from when it was my parents, and it's like a Christian sticker, and I call it my cop propellant. Because I'm like, no one...

Peter : That's hilarious. What is Wow,

matt: yeah It just says, come and see.

Peter : what is that?

matt: So, I think it's from...

Peter : That's like a Bible thing?

matt: I think it's from when ah the resurrection happened, and

Peter : okay You guys want to see something?

matt: Like Mary Magdalene. haven't studied the Bible in a long time. Yeah, like come and see.

Peter : hold on.

matt: But I'm like, dude, I drive a mom van and this is on the back and I always have weed on me.

Peter : This is my... ah People are always like...

matt: I'm probably not getting pulled over.

Peter : You know, did people ever ask you what you're reading?

matt: ah

Peter : and I've been reading...

matt: Occasionally, yeah

matt: Yeah, that's that's about what it is.

Conor Fowler: Is that a letter bound Bible?

Peter : So I just have to tell people. Yeah, I have to tell people I'm reading the Bible, but not like and i like that.

matt: Right, yeah right. Totally, totally. ah Yeah.

Peter : It's a contrarian reading of the Bible.

matt: Of course, of course.

Conor Fowler: Wow, dude. That's tight.

matt: Yeah. All right, y'all.

Peter : All right, we get to tuck Connor in here.

Conor Fowler: Yeah, right.

matt: Yeah, we got to go to bed.

Conor Fowler: Sorry.

Peter : Should I sing you a little lullaby as we go?

Conor Fowler: Sorry for scaring you.
