Real quick, because I used to get suspended, right? A lot too as well. But it just don't make sense. It don't make sense. Why are you going to be like, I'm not going to let you go to school? Yeah.
00:00:10
Speaker
to Well, I mean, it's only going to hurt you in the long run. That's why they do it. but But when you're a kid, you don't think about it like That's your fault. You're a kid. You're making dumb decisions as a kid. We're going to make you dumber since you want to make dumb decisions. And that's how I see it. like Look, all these kids in here taking this serious. Yeah. They staying quiet. They doing it. They reading. You clearly don't think that this going to be what you need in the future.
00:00:33
Speaker
So go home. Go home. Go that do what you need to do in your future. Look, that makes sense now. But when you're kid, you're thinking that. You're not thinking

Influential Figures in Personal Growth

that. But also teachers, I remember one of my teachers told me, look, you could drop out of here right now at 15. Go get your GED and start getting a construction job. You have your OSHA 17. You'll be making $35 an hour by Did you do that? I was gone. What do you mean, man? I was out of there. swear to God, I was gone.
00:01:03
Speaker

00:01:16
Speaker
Frosty Preem. Welcome to the podcast, man. Thank you, man. Thank you so much. I appreciate you. Thank you for having me. Nah, it's a long time coming. Yo, shout out Flip, because Flip hit hit me up, was like, yo, i need you should meet up with Frosty and and learn about you know about these pink brims and stuff. Shout out Flip.
00:01:33
Speaker
Shout out Flip, man. And Fern. Shout out Fern. Word, word. Those are all legends. Flip flip probably like the first person ever believing me in my life. Like definitely my top 10 like dudes that, you know, are there from the beginning.
00:01:45
Speaker
Definitely. I mean, yeah, Flip's been all over New York. Like, yeah, he's got- He's a pioneer. Definitely a pioneer. Definitely like one of the bosses you have to beat to get to the top. You got to make your way through Flip. And he'll definitely, he's Mr. Like, yo, I need you to talk to this person. yeah He'll always put you in front of the right people. So shout out Flip, man. Definitely. i remember he introduced me to some people that they didn't even speak English. They was all speaking Portuguese. Yeah.
00:02:08
Speaker
And they still kept in contact with me and like helped me out through my years. i just had to use Google Translate to talk to my boy Chef. But that's fire, man. Yeah. Shout out Flip, man. That's that's a crazy way to start. A lot of people wouldn't know that. Like, you know, people probably just think, you know, through hats or through sneakers, we probably would know have mutuals. But yeah, that's like a real friend of mine. I mean, yeah, it's, you know, because like, OK, so basically I knew Flip because of Fern Fern. I've known Fern since high school, college, college since college. That's still a long time. Yeah, yeah. I mean, when you meet somebody in certain places, you hold them in with a different value. So like- For sure. Meeting someone in college gives you that connection for life. Yeah, for real. Definitely.
00:02:48
Speaker
And then he introduced me to Flip because they were doing a podcast together.

Sneaker Culture and Family Influence

00:02:51
Speaker
And then Flip was like, yo, ah he because he started checking out my podcast. Checking out this podcast. he Yeah, he be on it. He be on it. Yeah, shout out to him. Yeah, yeah, Yo, and then if you're in New York, make sure you follow him, yo. Shout out West Side Flip. West Side Flip.
00:03:06
Speaker
Yo, follow him. Go to his parties. Yes. So, yeah, if if you're if you pull if you want something to do on a Sunday, he always has some popping at parties up in ah yeah Brooklyn, right? It's like mostly Williamsburg? Yeah, mostly Williamsburg. But if you just follow him and just write to him, what what what do I need to do today? Like, Chad GBC or something, he'll give you like an itinerary or shit do. Yo. pretty cool.
00:03:28
Speaker
But we're here to talk about you, Frosty. What's up? yeah I'm here to ask you. I'm going hit you with that question. So the question is, and I ask everybody each week, what's that first kick? What's your first kick? what was that first pair thingies you absolutely needed to have? um I would say probably like second grade, third grade.
00:03:44
Speaker
It was a pair of 14s. It was them stealth toe 14s, the black toe 14s. I don't know why call them stealth toe. it just stealto Yeah, I just always put the, I don't know why, but the black toe 14s. And my mom had got me the white and red ones. And I remember she was like, I got you the pair 14s. And when I opened them, I remember being devastated that they weren't swayed in the front and shit. And I was like, ma, these aren't thugs. This is terrible. like She was like, what do you mean? You're brand new Jordans. like These just came out. I'm like, these aren't dumb, though.
00:04:15
Speaker
So i would probably say 14 is my first pair. You didn't get beat for that? Hell no. I ain't going to lie. I was a bad kid, man. My mom she was a great parent. way like She let me get away with a lot. like My cousins always remind me like that I never got in trouble for cursing.
00:04:30
Speaker
oh that's crazy i never got in trouble for cursing now one curse where i was like two three years old saying whatever i wanted and my mom would be like i'm not gonna beat you every time you curse so and then eventually you just kind of take the fun out of cursing cause yeah it's like it's kind of yeah nu it's nothing nobody flinches yeah nobody bats the eye so then by like eight i was kind of like whatever i gotta find new words i can't just be cursing and Just making up words now. Yeah. I got to find a way to curse better. But like through all of that, like, I don't know.
00:05:02
Speaker
Oh, my, my probably like first two pairs. would probably say one of my cousins had Ray Allen, my brother, actually, my brother, Parra. He was a person who got me into sneakers. He had like 400 pairs of sneakers when we were growing up. He got a picture in his house and his sneakers throughout the whole couch, all throughout the top, all on the floor.
00:05:18
Speaker
But he had Ray Allen PEs. How the hell he get that? My brother was a dog, man. Shout out to Parra, man. He was a demon. And like my cousin, John and Delaney, you know, these were dudes that would go out to Atlantic City during drops and buy every size of of of every size. So nobody could get him.
00:05:35
Speaker
Wow. at the At the outlets? Yeah. oh So like, or like when there was a drop at like, you know, somewhere in there, like, yo, this is only, they'll buy every size. Like, nah, I want every size from size seven to 13 and every pair. And you're like, yo, and just clean house and just be like, no one can get these.
00:05:52
Speaker
I'll be so sick of it. Yeah. in the hu So then, but they were probably like, I guess the first, now looking back, they're probably like the first resellers we've ever seen, right? Yeah, I mean, 2001 for sure. They were buying Bulk of sneakers and getting them off in hood. Yeah.
00:06:07
Speaker
You know, but my love for sneakers definitely came young, very young because of them. And basketball sneakers. Right. That was where my... that's ah it's under I always say it. 90s basketball is undefeated. Yeah. yeah And then the 2000s, you got that. It just got even crazier. Kevin Garnett was pulling up. I mean, you just break down. them You got Barclays. You got Pennies. you got You got multiple styles of Pennies, if we're being honest. like He took a whole the whole...
00:06:35
Speaker
like wave of pennies and then into foams and then into flights and then that's all considered you know penny like people forget yeah and then you got you got like I remember my I have a huge obsession with the with the son of the glove and glove uh-huh and they got reissued yeah of course in like the 2000s I was like my cousin got be working out in his gloves right now to Gary Payton But like, I don't know. I think like my my favorite KDs, like I ain't gonna lie, KD, Derrick Rose, that era. Like, um remember my cousin played for Lincoln and he had came home with the pro models on back in the day after Kobe had just had him on. And we were all in the crib like staring at the shoe like, yo, bro, you got the fucking coat. Man, back then those was Kobe. saying yeah like
00:07:15
Speaker
So we was like super gassed over him having those. He's putting up numbers or was he... ah My cousin really is the best. He's super nice, but he's just 5'10", 5'11", you know?
00:07:28
Speaker
A lot of heart, not a lot of height. He could shoot threes with his left hand and his right hand. He could do amazing things, lay up the ball on three people under the legs. You'd like, what the fuck? Like take somebody 6'5 on ISO. But when you get to different levels, bro, you know, like it's only so good. You got to be like magnificent to be undersized and play at a certain level.
00:07:51
Speaker
Crazy. so too small. Yeah, so you're getting the taste of sneaker culture as it's like yeah to you, but where'd you grow up originally? In Brooklyn. um brooklyn so a Brooklyn boy, Williamsburg. Okay, okay. yeah Wow, Williamsburg.
00:08:02
Speaker
Williamsburg, Williamsburg. Real Williamsburg, getting chased, machetes outside Williamsburg. That's crazy. like You know what I'm saying? It was nasty. there's the That was when the G-Train was crazy dangerous. Yo, ain't never take the G-Train. I'm going to up. didn't take the G-Train until I was probably like 21 years old. There was no reason for me to get on the G-Train.
00:08:20
Speaker
At all. I am not going that way. I took the J train, East New York, Williamsburg, you know, like, through there. Oh, man. That's crazy. And then you went to school in? Yeah, I went to school in Williamsburg, too. I got kicked out of every school I've ever been to. Okay.
00:08:32
Speaker
So... So you you living up to that bat that bad kid. Yeah, but I think back... Looking back now, I think it was just like... um Not even like a problem with authority, but just like very questionable on ah people's, ah you know, like reason.
00:08:46
Speaker
Like and I got suspended one time from school. My teacher told me to take my hat off. And a I was like, no. And she was like, no, yeah, like take the hat off now. And I just asked her simply like, do I read slower with a hat on?
00:09:01
Speaker
Like, it's just a simple, am I yeah am i less articulate with a hat And she was like, no. And I was like, then i don't see no reason for me to take this shit off, lady. And she was like, get out. And I was like, I'll kindly leave. And then I left.
00:09:14
Speaker
And then when I got to the office, you know, like whatever, my teacher was like, listen, it's more because it's easier. If every kid had a different hat on, we wouldn't be able to tell who's who. And most times when you don't have a hat on, if there's an emergency, we'll be able to see everybody's top of heads. I said, that's That makes no sense, bro. That's bullshit.
00:09:32
Speaker
I said, now I'm really not taking this shit off. Yeah, for real. So you mean to tell me you can't spot me with this bright-ass red hat on? It's not like you're in a sea of bright red hats. You feel me? It's not a thousand bright red hats here. Now I got on a yellow one. That'd be even more obvious. Yeah, exactly. So was like, nah, y'all reasoning don't make sense.

Rebellious School Days

00:09:48
Speaker
This is stupid.
00:09:49
Speaker
So I would just never take my hat off to the point that teachers would be like, man, whatever. And on ne I just ah get created my they guy yeah yeah own privilege. I would be tight at you though. I would be in the classroom.
00:10:01
Speaker
No, there was kids used like, but he, and they used to be like, but this nigga going to raise hell for an hour. You not. So just take your hat off, bro. Nah, you was one of those Mr. Mr. guys. You'd be like, yo, Mr. Yo, Mr. Nah, not either. I would really come into class headphones on.
00:10:18
Speaker
Oh, in the back. I sit right in front. Really? Yeah, don't give fuck. I ain't even hot in the headphones. At all. I remember my my girl always brings that up. She be like, you the only kid used to be with headphones on in school. Nobody said that.
00:10:30
Speaker
That's crazy. I created my own privilege everywhere went, bro. You sure did, bro. I swear you got to. I'm pretty sure everybody watching this like, this mother. Shout out my boy Spug. Spug went to high school with me. Spug, he went to high school with me. He seen it all. He used come into office and be like, come on, bro.
00:10:45
Speaker
It's been five days in a row. I'm like, I've been suspended from last week. But through that time, like... Real quick, because I used to get suspended, right? A lot too, as well. But it just don't make sense.
00:10:58
Speaker
It don't make sense. Why are you going to be like, I'm not going to let you go to school? Yeah. to Well, I mean, it's only going to hurt you in the long run. That's why they do it. but But when you're a kid, you don't think about it like That's your fault. You're a kid. You're making dumb decisions as a kid. We're going to make you dumber since you want to make dumb decisions.
00:11:15
Speaker
And that's how I see it. Like... Look, all these kids in here taking this serious. They staying quiet. They doing it. They reading. You clearly don't think that this going be what you need in the future. So go home.
00:11:27
Speaker
Go home. Go do what you need to do in your future. Look, that makes sense now. But like when you're kid, you're thinking that. not thinking that. But also teachers, I remember one of my teachers told me, look, you could drop out of here right now at 15. Go get GED and start getting a construction job. You have your OSHA by 17. You'll be making $35 an hour by 18.
00:11:45
Speaker
Did you do that? Nick, I was gone. What you mean, bro? was out of there. swear to God, I was gone. I said, yeah, that shit is gone. I got my OSHA 30. I was 18 years old. By 19, I was an electrician for a solar panel company. I was moving. were I was looking at kids like, yo, you going to school? They're like, yeah, my first year at BMCC. I'm like, oh, you about to be broke.
00:12:06
Speaker
Sorry. That's crazy. I mean, look, now we need more people picking up trades anyway. So it's just like- You got to learn something, man. I mean, our grandparents and great grandparents, these niggas used to go to war.
00:12:20
Speaker
Like straight up, 18 years old, signed themselves up for the Navy, signed themselves up for the Army, get they ass going, come back three, four years, go to college, get a degree to going through the Navy.
00:12:31
Speaker
And you know that was like a way of finding your path through here and then finding your profession through then. And then you have a decent job because you went to school. And back then, having a decent job meant you could pay your rent and you could have a car. you could maybe put a kid or two through college.
00:12:47
Speaker
have a savings. Now it's like, you can make 100K and live in Williamsburg and be broken in the dude that you buy weed from all the time. yeah So now you need to make like 100K a month right so to keep up with the bullshit.
00:13:00
Speaker
I mean, now eggs is like $40 a pack. My boy in Detroit just was like, nigga, you lying. Them shit's like $1.49. I'm like, bro, I'm just like 15 at the Bravo by the Crab, bro. You bug it. We had a point where we getting loose eggs now yeah at the bodega. but Like, yo, I got you. How the fuck we don't... ah Sorry for the cursing, but how we ain't got a chicken shortage, yeah but we got an egg shortage.
00:13:26
Speaker
I mean, it's just what comes first, right? yeah yeah yeah Chicken or the egg. Now we know. Now we know that you can have a shortage on them. And not on the other. You could be hurting. Clearly the chicken come first. Yeah, for real. You could have endless amounts of just chicken thighs, chicken legs. Yeah, you could do that. I'd order Wingstop right now. And it'd be good. 105 pieces, like flats, all flats. Yeah.
00:13:52
Speaker
Quick. 30 minutes. Not quick. not i don't know. When's the last time you ordered Wingstop? Wingstop pretty frequent. I ain't going to lie. Yeah, but it's never quick. It's never cheap, neither. Yeah, it's not. Fucking Wingstop's $70.
00:14:03
Speaker
yeah if I mean, if you order for two, but right one is still 40 beans. That's kind of crazy. Yeah. Dope. I can get mad chicken wings for $40. All So basically, but I definitely want to, because, you know, I had J Tips on here. course.
00:14:18
Speaker
I got a little bit of his, you know, a story within, you know, starting in that, the the article, was that Wall Street Journal? that did the article what was the article oh business and fashion and yeah business of fashion yeah yeah bof yeah bof that's my bad um i was protesting back then oh yeah yeah that's why i had a poo shiisty on on the on the in the thing i mean it was crazy because i i remember when that came out and i didn't know about none of y'all guys right and like after that and i talked with i talked the about it with tips i was just like this it just y'all just went crazy after that yeah yeah
00:14:51
Speaker
That was a crazy day. It was snowing. Similar to today. yeah right Great moments yet again. Yes, sir. um But first, before you jump into that, yeah yeah I want to know about the the origins. right so you You got really into sneakers. and yeah like Did that expand into hats? like You were starting going down and getting hats? course. i mean like I remember when sneakers when hats used to drop with a specific sneaker. right like I remember I had to dub zeros. I know a lot of people go't laugh, but there was a moment in life where those was fine.
00:15:19
Speaker
yeah I had a conversation about that bro literally today there was fire at a point i had the black with the gold right yeah there was a yankee hat that had came out with all the embroidery along the hat that was supposed to match the dub zeros but it was a bunch of fitteds embroidered in the whole hat oh yeah i remember that it was like two different colorways white and cream and like a black and gold and then you could only get them in uh at lids like filming yeah yeah and those had came out to match the dub zero so like I remember when that was a thing. Like, you you got a you know you got a pair of threes. You got a Chicago White Sox hat. Or like, you know, you got a pair Air Forces. You went and got a new Yankee.
00:15:54
Speaker
Like, it was like kind of like synonymous with each other. right So I think that's what started it. Plus my pops at the time. This is like Dipset era. He got a son. And he's dressing me how, you know, and fly shit, you know. And I didn't really realize it until I got older. And I look back. I'm like, that was Tommy. And that was Polo. that was Ralph and And he's like, yeah, you was...
00:16:15
Speaker
You was doing your thing. We was getting money back then. I'm like, damn. So, you know, i go through all of that. My dad, he used to buy me so many pairs of sneakers that, you know, i don't i didn't live with my dad growing up. I know a lot of us probably don't. But when he would come every weekend to pick me up or whatever, he would come with a new pair of kicks.
00:16:34
Speaker
Mm-hmm. And sometimes he would come so freaked. Like every week he would come. He'd be like, I got you these new Jordans. And they would he just got me to them last week. He didn't even remember. That's crazy. So I had like two pairs of fours. yeah I had like two pairs of anniversary fours. I had like, you know, i had a lot of doubles of stuff. And then I would play kickball in them in school. And had a pair that my mom would keep to the cut. yeah And so that's what kind of gave me the first like, I need two pairs of these. I need a pair to cook.
00:16:59
Speaker
I need a pair to wear. So that was like the first thing. fuck up. You know what I mean? that was the first bad habit right there. And then he would always have clean sneakers on. So I would always see my dad get like new sneakers or he'll be balling in like some bread fours and like at the gym or something. be like, you got a cool dad, man. now My dad's pretty cool. over He still rock flies shit to the gym. oh yo That's all swag. yeah Like I used to try to hoop and I used to hoop and play off nons and I bought them at flight club for like 400 something dollars.
00:17:29
Speaker
Cause Chris Brown had just took a picture in him, right? This is like those, that little era. And, um, I was so gassed up and light skin and young that I was like, I need to get the same sneakers Chris Brown got. So I ran the flight club yeah and there were like four and some change. That was the most, I think I had paid ever at for shoe at that point. yeah And then, um,
00:17:49
Speaker
I hooped at them that same summer and they ripped in the front. That's crazy. The whole front of them ripped. Oh my God. Right here. And I hooped. And like through that summer they was good. They were just hot. They make your feet very hot.

Fashion Influences and Local Brands

00:18:01
Speaker
That's all leather. Yeah. I to be like sitting on the floor taking my shoes off. Like yo bro my feet are boiling. double elite socks for no reason. Like, this is the crazy era, bro.
00:18:10
Speaker
Like, I got two pairs of elite socks. How elite can I get? You need so much cushion. The two points. Just like, yeah, I need all the cushions. My feet peeling. I take them off. They mad moist. They're not even drop fit no more. They so hot.
00:18:25
Speaker
I done sweat through the second sock. Oh, man. So, yeah, that that was a good era. And then, so, yeah, like, so you got the hats and then you just had, like, a crazy collection of hats and sneakers.
00:18:36
Speaker
Yeah, but it was different back then because we had so many different types of hats. Like I would probably say like, remember Mishka? Yeah. I had like, that was right up the block from my house. So um I was able to go there every day. That's fire.
00:18:47
Speaker
so Shout out Greg, man. You feel me? Yeah, shout out to all of them. And then like, I would always pull up and then, you know, um, They had mad different shit. So I would be like, yo, I'm going to get this for my lobsters. i yeah get this for and It wasn't necessarily always fitted back then. And then there was a a store next door next door to that at the time called Moda.
00:19:05
Speaker
Moda was there for a little while. They moved down towards by the bridge. And then Kid Super ended up next to it. yeah So like it was always a cool little. Yeah, you got the you in a yeah hot spots of just like. You feel me? And then when did Supreme Williamsburg open up?
00:19:18
Speaker
2014, 15th?
00:19:22
Speaker
fourteen fiftyzy 16? I want to say. It was like 15 or 16. Definitely after 2012. Yeah. i think it was on 15, 16. 15, 16. Because they still had the Lafayette spot. Spot. Uh-huh. Till like 2016. Yeah.
00:19:36
Speaker
And then then they moved down to Bowery. Mm-hmm. But it was just like they opened Brooklyn first and they opened the other LA store first too. And then they moved. And then they moved. Yeah, yeah. So I think mean like all through that little area, like it was just cool.
00:19:52
Speaker
I was definitely keeping up. And then the fitteds kind of was just always staying around. I just always had a Yankee hat. Yeah. You know, just kept up with it. Did you. So did you start going to hat club first? No, not at all.
00:20:04
Speaker
Okay. Okay. I don't think I... like i At that time, like I was still kind going to my local spot over here with Graham. Yeah. And then... Because I want to know like the origins of how people started just being like, right, let's do this for real, for real.
00:20:18
Speaker
Because with sneakers, it's like you wait online, you know? weird because... like All right, 2017, I want to say, my homie Hector, um he was working at Hat Club.
00:20:30
Speaker
But I didn't go to that part of Soho at that time. remember it was I was like on the opposite side of where everybody would be at. And so um he was like, y'all work at Hat Club. I'm like, what the fuck? ah And then he was like, yo, pull up one day. And then um i pulled it up. I met Justin. Shout out to my homie, Ping Bottom Just. And then, um you know, we we just started kicking it. You know, ah it was like maybe like a year, year and a half. We would just, I would just see him and just chop it with him. Go see Hector shit. My homie, Gary, we used to work there.
00:20:55
Speaker
And then they were like, yo, you're trying to hire a shorty. And they hired my girl. And so Hector and know everybody, we were all friends already. So it was kind of simple. And then my girl started working there. And then you're going to see me all the time now. of My girl's there. So um I started going more often. And then um they had dropped to like the Red Bottoms Yankee with the script in the back. And I had bought it because I was there.
00:21:17
Speaker
And this is like 2017. I still got that picture on archived on my gram. um yeah like 2017 I got a pool shiesty on I got a red bottom on and um Justin was like oh we could kind of do customs so I just kept that yeah and then 29 like 2018 I was doing the electrician shit I was in my in my work truck and um I had a Yankee on from hat club at the time because I was still keeping up with it and then I had told my my boy Joe that I was in the car with like yo I want to make I want to make it pink under it yeah and he was like nigga that's fire Yeah. I was like, words? Yeah, said you should do that shit. but So I told Justin, I'm like, yo, dog, you know, let's do it. Let's do it. yeah And at first, Justin was kind of like, nah, like, you know, like, I don't, and looking back, I don't think he, he didn't know he could yeah You know I'm saying? So I didn't think he wanted to tell me yes.
00:22:04
Speaker
And then they tell him no. and then he's like, premise or no. So I think he'd rather just tell me like, man, don't get your hopes up. and that's kind of how I see it now because he did it. So then um first pinkies came back, 96 pink.
00:22:16
Speaker
They sold out super duper fast. yeah i remember that. And then um we kept dropping, you know, like we had the Houston, the White Sox. We did like the classic colorways, boom. And then at that time...
00:22:26
Speaker
lot of people don't know why you didn't see Pinky's other places was Hat Club had a like a basically like a seal for like a first couple of months on the pinky being the first people to do it. So no other company was allowed yet or stores were allowed yet to do it for like six to eight months. I think it was.
00:22:42
Speaker
And then once they went through, we got to see the first ones at ah Cap USA in Harlem. yeah And so um even still, through all of that, um we got blessed with Jay.
00:22:54
Speaker
yeah You know, Jay Tips ends up doing the infrared and purple colorway. um You know, you still see those colorways to this day around his his clothing. and um that was the first, I want to say mainstream, you know, Pinky and Icy that, you know, ever had came out. Because it was like, it was one thing to drop, you know, ah a crazy pink bottom and people were like really, you know, open to it and they were liking it. yeah But then when Jay did it, it was like dropping like the Dornbecker version or like the You know, it was like, whoa, like this is the level of where we could start going with this shit.
00:23:27
Speaker
And Jay fucking hit out the park. It was on StockX. It was on all these blogs. And then I personally feel like if it wasn't for Jay, you know, we wouldn't have gotten his sneakers the new fitteds. His fitted culture the new. Because Jay kind of like,
00:23:41
Speaker
Brought it together where it was like, this is a sneaker guy. Yeah. for know A lot of people knew Jay already for being like this. Making that bespoke. yeah A real cultural like presence in New York City through his brand. and ah So when na when he did the fitted, it was like he put like the microscope on it for all of us. And I still ah thank him every day. He's a God-given angel. No, yeah. I mean, i so I don't know.
00:24:03
Speaker
I definitely wanted a little bit more context on this because I remember there was like... ah pink bra pink bottom no pink brims ah her account and then there was like a blue brims account yeah so blue brims is it' still blue brims like he um you know he did he makes pins and stuff pink brims is my homie um these were all hat instagrams that started from the pink brim yeah from pink bottoms and people started like sneaker pages yeah i'm not sure what was the first like sneaker pages but it's also a different time like right between internet right like people are probably on myspace being like soul collector or like sneaker god or you know what I'm saying like it goes pretty far back when it comes to that or even before that you go like polo era where dudes ain't even have the internet and you just knew that this dude was the number one booster in the hood yeah you go through the meetups you like yo I just order snow beach like you know what I mean yeah you get to see that and it's like
00:24:55
Speaker
but I mean, that's what I'm saying. It's very interesting to see it because I was like seeing it, but I was like, I'm not part of this, but I know sneakers, right? So you could see the parallels of just like people, like they're collecting this stuff and they're starting to make it. And it was just interesting because the the way that it started to like bubble out and now and now we got what it it is now, which is as crazy as insane now. It's going so far. Yeah.
00:25:20
Speaker
for. I have like no control over it. yeah like I've seen people with pink bottoms. I've seen this viejo, this old man walking down the street had it on. and He knew like my mother-in-law whatever and she was like, yo, you know he made pink bottoms? and He went crazy. He's like, yo, ba, look at all the ones I got. He showed me like 80 of them. He's like, yo, know I got this one on Graham. I got this one on Nickabaka.
00:25:40
Speaker
I'm like, gotta to come get them straight from the source. He's like, everything's the source. Like I just, I'm like, yeah, whatever. So I get it now, but it's just cool to see like the lids thing though, the recent double XL thing was definitely like another, you know, thing that ah I'm honored to even stand next to some of the people in that.
00:26:00
Speaker
yeah but Everyone in there, I'm honored to be next to all of them. Like, Some of those people are a motivation for me, an inspiration. They inspire me. like you know Another moment where I'm standing next to Jay, who's like a huge motivation for me. He's a huge inspiration to everything I want to complete.
00:26:16
Speaker
And so you know being around him, like you get to really see like the humility and the hard work that it takes and um really how much you have to lock in. yeah I'm just thankful to I mean speaking of Jay you might as well show these Omni Nines show my favorites yeah yeah yeah Do leave on the table?
00:26:38
Speaker
mean, yeah, you can leave them on the table. Or you can hold them and then talk about them. Jay, I have both colorways, but this specific colorway, I just think was very slept on. other one reminded me of the rafts, like old school rafts. Yeah.
00:26:54
Speaker
And I think it was the new version of what rafts always thought they were doing, but they just were never comfortable, right? You get the versions that Jay did, and they're like the comfort, the new version. They're like everything that you wanted in a shoe, right?
00:27:07
Speaker
But these to me like The pinks The blues They just always hold So much value to me Yeah So these are definitely Probably like I wear these as much as I can.
00:27:19
Speaker
I will wear these as much as I can. almost wore those today. You should have. No, because it's snowing outside. wear your sneakers. Yeah, know. But would be slipping and sliding. have great in the snow. Yeah, but I would be slipping and sliding. And I also did not know it was going to snow today. Okay. I'll let you know on something. Every time I do something important, it snows. I swear to God.
00:27:40
Speaker
It never business. if Fashion snowed fucking a foot and a half. Today's snowing a foot and a half. I dropped music two weeks ago. It snowed the whole day. it's Like my hat dropped and smoked that whole day. We never... and don't get you now I know. for The next episode. I'll be like, right, I'm bringing snowballs. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:27:57
Speaker
Make sure it's the summer. Yeah. If it snows down, we know something's really wrong. um I was at the drop. I ran into you then, but ah that we didn't know each other for real, for real then. We were only just talking because i know I messaged you on before that because I was like, yo, want to get you on the episode. Yeah. um And then I run into you there. That was a crazy day. Yeah, it was wild. Mm-hmm.
00:28:20
Speaker
and Thank you to J Tips. Yeah, shout out J Tips. so we go to BBC. you know is The line is crazy. It's just in pandemonium.
00:28:32
Speaker
That was a beautiful day to see everything. i was outside for like 15, 20 minutes. hu And then Jay comes outside. He's like,
00:28:40
Speaker
Give him a wristband. I wish I got that. I didn't get that. Maybe the next drop. the next drop. is i may the next joke I'm like, yo, I've been out here like 30 minutes. Jay, like, what you doing? Yo, give him wristband. I was out there for like so two hours, I think. Nah. Two, three hours. Well, I was outside for maybe about like an hour, hour and a half.
00:28:57
Speaker
But when I want to say like trying to get in, probably like 30 minutes. Easily. And then Jay came out, you know, thankful that he was able to notice me and was like, help Primo, please. Yeah, for real. Fucking bot getting inside. And then after that, we we ran into each other again at ComplexCon. Yeah, in Vegas. Yeah. So it was just like boom, boom, boom. yeah Like it all aligned. And then Flip hit me was like, yo, you should have him on. I was just like, yeah, we got make this happen. The stars aligning at this point. Yeah, for real.
00:29:24
Speaker
So, yeah. But that like the pinks and that shoe, I definitely also agree it's left on. I think that everybody pays attention to the purple and blue. blue Yeah. mean, understand.
00:29:36
Speaker
But just it is. I it i would say it is out of i like. Like it's out of the norm. it it Yeah, it can be until you put them on. And then you realize that they're kind of just like pink and blue shoes. Yeah, exactly. And they look kind of high end.
00:29:51
Speaker
Like I've worn them in different ways. I actually want a pair to hoop it. I think that they will be very good hoop shoes. i don't know about that. i i You like lower like low cut? Yeah, I mean, I was playing in KD6s. What's lower than that? That's a slipper yeah with a tongue on it. That was my favorite shoe to hoop in. That was KD6. I actually never got hurt in low top sneakers. I've only got hurt in high top sneakers. Damn.
00:30:16
Speaker
Yeah. No, I just get hurt. and For real? Yeah. i live I'm hurt right now. From hooping? Yeah, from hooping. That's why I stopped hooping. yeah Seriously. Hooping for free. Yeah. And you break your own finger or your arm and you out of work.
00:30:31
Speaker
It don't help. I mean, I got a corporate job. I'm good. I still don't want to be hurt. You feel me? I don't want to be hurt. Look. i got I got a ball beamed at me and I tried to catch it and my and my pinky just went all the way back. back And then it snapped back and I had to pop it out, and put it back into place. you one of those dudes. so You one of those dudes that be... I had to. looked at You just do it yourself? Yeah. You crazy. But as long as I can bend it, I'm fine. so I'm just like, all So you just... I'm good now. Gained through it on your own? Yeah. You didn't go to the city MD or nothing? No, I didn't go to the city MD. You have a PhD? Yeah.
00:31:05
Speaker
Yeah. Dr. Hassan. I was about to say, like, if I mean, okay. All right. So, we're talking about the business of fashion article and the boom of hats and, you know, J-Tip's influence on you.

Music Career Beginnings

00:31:20
Speaker
But, like, so you said you, did you stop being an electrician? Like.
00:31:24
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. I just kind of, I got fired from that job. Okay. i Got into it with my manager. Mm-hmm. Yeah. Yeah, don't want say too much. No, don't. Yeah. um And I was i just also always had like this weird.
00:31:39
Speaker
No, I wouldn't say weird mentality, but like always had like this Mamba mentality or like this yay mentality where it's like, motherfucker, I'm going to be great. Yeah, going to be great. I'm going great. And I just kind of always kept that. So like.
00:31:52
Speaker
After I left the solar panel stuff and I was cool and I was making a lot of money doing that. right yeah but Then I was like, i want to do something that is kind of like what I want to do, not necessarily what I need to do. yeah And so I started working at Nike okay and that was terrible.
00:32:07
Speaker
Yeah. It's just not fun as a job. Right. As much as you're just kind of like on the floor. It wasn't as as I thought it would be. And then like I was also blessed. Where are you at? I was on 52nd and 5th at the new one.
00:32:21
Speaker
Oh, okay. Okay. But I was also blessed by like Brent. Shout out Brent. Shout out Brent. Like, you know, um I literally just like Brent got me an interview. And so I was kind of, you know, Bruce was my coach. And like,
00:32:34
Speaker
these are dudes that were really cool and really good people. So I was able to stay around good people throughout the, what would be like a politic area. Yeah. It kind of left me in like a gray area where it's like, oh, you're a reference of Brent. We won't really kind of like play around with you. to see Yeah. So um that was really cool. I got to see the the favoritism firsthand. and Yeah.
00:32:54
Speaker
You know, lot of it. There's a lot of it. And I remember like literally asking like, can you guys fire me? Yeah. Like I've been late every shift, please fire me. And were like, no, you're pretty cool when you're here though. I'm like, oh fuck.
00:33:08
Speaker
So like- Were you pursuing music at the same time doing this? Yeah, I was definitely pursuing music. Yeah. And the pink bottoms, I was working in 2019. and twenty nineteen I was still at Nike when the pink bottoms dropped. yeah So like, I remember coming to work and people being like, yo, I went to hack club and got it.
00:33:25
Speaker
And like one of my homies, I remember walking through- um While you on shift? and While I'm on shift. i got And screaming like, yo, I got a pink bottom, yo. And like really showing love. My boy KV. Uh-huh. You know, Kizzy.
00:33:38
Speaker
You know, now Kizzy runs like... He's like the Eakin. He's where... Oh, yeah. Where Brent and like... Yeah. They like switch spots. Mm-hmm. But it's just cool to see. And then like, you know, they all kept... I kept in contact with a lot of them and they were just always good people. So just...
00:33:53
Speaker
Wasn't as fun as I wanted it to be. it was cool to be in. And so encapsulated in that realm. Were you still copping like crazy? Hell yeah. I was copping even more than because it was 40% off. Oh oh yeah. so shit that was, I was getting the best sneaker for $96. No tax. Air forces with 40 beans. Yeah.
00:34:09
Speaker
I'm getting a pair air forces every day. Yeah. You might as well. but I was basically working just to get them back my fucking money. I'm not going lie. That's usually what happens, bro. Yeah, because back then you needed staff dress or you needed stay in the same outfits. You needed sneakers to stay on. And then running sneakers are not cheap.
00:34:22
Speaker
You think that Jordans is the expensive stuff. Nah, it's always like that. had pair of Pegasus that were like $275. Those running shoes. You wouldn't even, people would make fun those. are fire, They're super fire. The premium joints? Premium joints. Oh, man. I want the Dornbeck and Pegasus. $290 on the running shoes.
00:34:39
Speaker
It's crazy. And people would be like, oh, those are dad shoes. Like, like if your dad's spending $300 on running shoes, tell I up. Yeah, for real. You're getting money for one of us. Like, come on. You're down with the squad.
00:34:53
Speaker
So, like, the you're pursuing music because I definitely want to talk about music because, like, you know, the parallels with you and Tips is, like, is there. we didn't even i didn't even really know how, like,
00:35:04
Speaker
Yeah. You know, but with music, it was weird because like my uncle made music growing up. And so I was like two, three years old back to like getting away with murder. My uncle who had a studio in our house and he would charge like 10, 15, 20 dollars an hour for dudes to come record. Yeah.
00:35:21
Speaker
My older brother was rapping and um he had a group called Reservoir Dogs. So they would all come to my house. And at 2, 3, 4 in the morning, every day of the week, there would be dudes in the room rapping. yeah And I got kindergarten in the morning.
00:35:35
Speaker
And I would get up and like sneak out you know like to my uncle's room. And at the time, he was probably like 18, 19, 20. So you think about when you're 18, 19, 20, and your nephew walks in who's 4, you're like, come on, come on.
00:35:46
Speaker
yeah it comes from so like I go in the room they like rolling up you what saying they got their paper and pencils out and pens cause back then there was no niggas were the writing no headphones none of that so everybody there got their headphones in they reciting their verses like to themselves in their little areas and then they would you know I would watch them punching verses and rap and all that and talk about fly shit and like it kind of just made it very easy for me to learn how to rap. yeah And so I knew how to rap by like three, four, five years old. I was already on songs, like my own verse.
00:36:17
Speaker
And then I just realized that like with music, like I never needed to practice. That was a thing. Like it was kind of like if I was already 6'8", 225 with a 45 inch vertical, like you kind of don't need to practice this. You should just keep doing it Yeah, exactly. And so that was my problem was like,
00:36:35
Speaker
I was kind of like already very good for my age, so when I would rap around my family or anything, they would be like, are you supposed to be good? You got the studio here, look who your uncle is, look who your brother is. You supposed to be good. Bronny effect, right? Like, are you supposed to be scoring 20, nigga? Your dad, LeBron James. 20's still hard, dog. Like, chill out. Like, it don't matter who my father is, I'm me. So it's like, that's kind of how felt. So then my uncle at the time, you know, rest in peace, my uncle, he used to always be like, you not ready to be a rapper.
00:37:07
Speaker
And she'll be like, what the fuck that even mean? Like, I'm ready to be, he like, you're not ready to sit in here 20 hours a day and just lock yourself in here. You're not ready for that. And I don't want to ruin my friendship with my nephew forcing you to really sit in here and not be a kid no more. Yeah.
00:37:22
Speaker
And I didn't realize that. I just took it as like, damn, man. Why he hating? No, I didn't even think he was hating in a way. I just kind of felt like, I just kind of felt like, Nah, you Like,
00:37:38
Speaker
Like we was missing out almost. Like, Dan, you don't really know, like or you don't really believe in a way. like you don't think like Not that he didn't think I was good, because he would always like use me as a bragging point. like Dudes would come in and be rapping, and he used to call me Choo, C-H-U. He used to be like, yo, Choo.
00:37:52
Speaker
And I'd come in the room, he'd be like, this nigga 21. I'm like, word? He'd be like... This nigga's trash, battle him right now. I'll be like, what? He'll be like, right now, verse for verse, go, go, go. And I would go verse for verse with, I was like 12, 13.
00:38:05
Speaker
And I would go verse for verse with whoever was in the room and they'd be like, nah, you nice, bro. Like, how old you? mom I'm thirteen it like, 13. They're like, what? Like, yeah. You was in basically in rap boot camp. Yeah, 100%. I was in rap boot camp. And like, my but my older brothers was all nice, all my um my cousins. And they was always mad good. And so, and they hooped.
00:38:24
Speaker
So they was like hooping and then coming to the crib to rap and then like getting fly. So I was seeing all of that at once. yeah So, excuse me. I was kind of like addicted to ah vision. yeah And then I would see them do rap videos and shit and I would be there and be like, yo, these guys is like doing it. yeah And so that all started into the music and then um I didn't really take music seriously. i was like 20 years old because I used to always kind of, again, back to the, I'd be protesting. Like, oh, you want me to make music so that we could get rich and we could get out the hood?
00:38:56
Speaker
No, because you ain't want to record me. Yeah. yeah got You forgot you didn't want to record You want me to go get a job and record for myself? No. yeah I'm not going to rap. I'm to play ball. I'm going to some shit I'm mad bad at in practice. And so then I like 19, 20, 21, around there, I start taking music serious and I dropped this song called Thousands.
00:39:17
Speaker
And that was the song that like kind of that was for my 21st birthday that was a song that kind of show my friends and stuff like yo he's taking it serious yeah and then like two years later I dropped this song called Diamonds and Diamonds is the number one stream song that I got to this day that's fire it's million streams damn that's fire on that one song yeah thank thank god yeah ah and we recorded that in Los Angeles um a woman she reached out to me and was like yo come record music out here I'm like this bitch about to get us killed yeah yeah I ain't believe that shit. Because you from New York, ain't nobody really nice to for no reason, right?
00:39:54
Speaker
Like, what the fuck you need me out here for? She like, just come out here. I want to introduce you to some people and like bring you up bring your folks or whatever. And I'm going to bring you to Universal Music and um we want you to record in here.
00:40:07
Speaker
That's crazy. And so I was kind of like, you know, kind of ready for the moment. I done recorded for so many years. I'm used to hearing myself through headphones for so long. Right, yeah. And so... Since you were four. Yeah, literally.
00:40:18
Speaker
ah Literally. So I remember like, you know, we got there and then, you know, like it's this big ass studio, bro. It's like... like a glass right here and then like behind it it's like a huge piano and like a drum set and I'm thinking like damn like this is it like yeah this is this is where we at right yeah and so my cousin's there with me my shorty's there with me and I'm like I gotta to perform like you're in the league you know you got a 10-day contract well fuck you better but do what you do better show up and so I made diamonds and I did that shit in one take literally one take the whole way through and when I came out all my cousins and everybody was just like
00:40:52
Speaker
the fuck was that? You just went crazy in there and I was like, word? And they were like, yeah. And I didn't like the song because I hadn't sang anything. I was always rapping and that was the first song I like kind of like singing, rapping on and it came out really good and then it took me like six months to build the courage to drop it.
00:41:09
Speaker
And I dropped it and then everybody had a good reception on it through Apple Music and stuff. yeah You know, was it was really it was really like heartwarming. And then at that time, my uncle that put me on through all of music and stuff, he passed away.
00:41:23
Speaker
And so he he passed away five days before that project came out. Yeah. And so on the next project, it's taken off Apple Music and stuff now because I couldn't really live with the stuff I was talking about on that project.
00:41:35
Speaker
But it was called Save Prime. And it was basically just like saying like this music is going like it was saving me at the time. And the cover was every single person that I knew with me and Rodney Park.
00:41:47
Speaker
and that was the cover. It was me and every single person I knew, bro. like That's funny. My cousins, my brother was there, my girls next to me, mark my boy Mars. Everyone is there. It's like 60 people around me.
00:41:59
Speaker
And um that was the album cover because it was basically saying like, y'all all saved me. yeah And then um that was that was the album that kind of blew up. And then I took it off Apple Music because it was just, I was talking about a lot of stuff that I didn't want to keep.
00:42:14
Speaker
You know, I don't want, it's like, The Pink Bottoms is already enough, right? Like, people come up to me and be like, I lost my mom too and then I'm sad again and I'm like, fuck, I forgot I lost my mom today. yeah I gotta relive the moment.
00:42:25
Speaker
So that's already enough. So then with the music, it was kind of like, I was getting very like, you know, J. Cole is very deep into my music. It my life. So I was telling my story through the music and I wasn't using it as like a like a wrestling you know moment where it was like this isn't me right i was using it to get more in depth of who i really was like your diary like a real therapy yeah and so then people would be like yo i heard that the song you did for your uncle my uncle passed and or that song you talked about smacking this dude and i don't like that nigga neither and i'm like damn i don't even really be mad at you no more like he kind of cool like he we playing call of duty together now and shit like you know is a long time ago leave it alone and so like just the constant reminders of certain energy that you leave into the world will carry on with you yeah i just figured it was a time where i was growing up and i was that was where i was growing up and then i grew a little bit and i realized that the things that you were doing as a child you can't take back right but you could just hope that you could just change it so i just try to change the perception for myself right yeah to make different stuff so
00:43:26
Speaker
Nah, yeah, I mean, that's touching. like this is Especially because like my big thing is just like, you know, you got to put stuff on wax for real. But i get I get taking stuff down too because it's just kind of like that moment. You don't want to just keep reliving that moment because it is supposed to be a moment. It's supposed to. Exactly. Kendrick said that recently. He said when he was working on Damn, he had worked on it for four years. yeah And it was so difficult to get back to the emotions that he felt three years ago while he worked on this one specific song or verse.
00:43:56
Speaker
so far that he was like i don't even really feel that way no more so you know you got to give yourself time yeah time really does heal it does it does mean everybody evolves time you know you're not you're not the same person you were 10 minutes ago you're not the same person you were 10 years ago so it's just like you know and if you are you doing something wrong yeah for real you better change up well speaking of 10 years ago Didn't these drop 10 years ago? i feel like they did. I forgot when they dropped. What is it? I got a cool story about these. Yeah, let me let's hear about these blue lobsters. It was right before Christmas.
00:44:29
Speaker
We had Dunk Exchange out in the city. Move back, move back. We had Dunk Exchange in the city. know if you remember Exchange. I was at all of them. I what church it was This one was in like a church. ah That one was the church that's on 23rd Street, 24th Street. It's right on the corner. Next to the Olive Garden. 100%. Across the street from the Bed Bath & Beyond.
00:44:51
Speaker
And I have went there with my shorty because it was like right before Christmas too. Maybe about like three weeks before Christmas, I want to say. It was December-ish. And she was like, yo, what ah I'm gonna get you your Christmas gift.

BMX Beginnings and Meeting Icons

00:45:02
Speaker
And dude was walking around a fresh pair of lobsters. And he was like, I just really need the money. he was some like young white kid. yeah And his parents were there. And he was like, could you do $100? He had like a bunch of sneakers with him.
00:45:15
Speaker
And my girl was like, yup, yup, yup, yes you can. And I remember being like, why are you feeding so bad to get me these blue lobsters? Because like at the time... At the time, it wasn't like so the heat, right? They were heat, but they weren't like what you went to Dunk Exchange to look for. yeah You're looking for like some crazy shit off the wall. Yeah, you looking for some old shit. I was looking for like 16s. I was looking for like something, you know, that I was looking for at the time.
00:45:43
Speaker
And then when I got those, I remember like I got back to the hood. I put them on immediately and they were so comfortable. Yeah. They were like far from any of the sneakers I had ever put on.
00:45:54
Speaker
And I was like, nah, these are dope. And then I rode my bike in them. ah And, and um you know, back then, another crazy full circle moment. Shout out to Nigel Sylvester. Yo, shout out to Nigel. um He was the reason why i even started BMX. And i say that wholeheartedly from his ah little um episodes on the go when he was doing the episodes. And I I remember I was working out i was working at like Foo Bizarre Bravo on like Grand Street.
00:46:21
Speaker
I got fired from that too. It was pretty quick. That was quick one. I was like 16. Some lady came in there. She was all bullshit. like... Bitch, I don't need this job. Fuck you. She was like, what? I'm like, bitch, fuck you. But that was a crazy one. But I met Nigel Sylvester in that supermarket.
00:46:41
Speaker
And me and my cousin Jack was working there. He walked in. i'm like, yo, Jack, that's Nigel Sylvester. Uh-huh. and and he was i walked up to him like yo bro it's good to meet you bro like whatever and then like four weeks later i see him in front of the spanish restaurant by my crib and like a red range rover yeah and i'll never forget this moment i'm riding my white bmx bike i just just took the brakes off that shit because he ain't had brakes on his like i was still young and kind of like just and i used to see him always riding in fours and like shit i was riding in lobsters and i was riding in nines and
00:47:11
Speaker
You know what i'm saying? And I just felt like this that's how you're supposed to kick it. Like you were supposed to be fly while you roll. Like, yeah I'm not going fall, so I'm not going to be dirty. Yeah, exactly. right So that's how I kind of seen him. And one day I'm riding by up by this is this old Spanish bar called El Puente. It was a restaurant. um And I'm hearing ah ah Exodus say,
00:47:32
Speaker
Pusha T. And I'm looking in the car. I'm like, who are this Red Range Rover in? When I pull up, ride my bike next to it, like look in. It was Nadu Sylvester again. So I'm like, yo, bro, it's good to meet you, bro, again. Because I know you won't remember me. met in the supermarket squad. yeah So then you feel me? Boom.
00:47:47
Speaker
Years pass. I'm at Dykeman. uhu And one of my homies woke up to him. It's like, yo, that's the kid that made Pink Bottom. And he like, what? And he gave me hella love. Like so much love. And I was just like, wow. He was like, yo, knowll take my number.
00:48:00
Speaker
And like, you know, I end up texting with him whatever. And then I'm like, yo, um you know, I hope to to do something with you one day. So, you know, like just putting that out there in the air, like those moments, like he really was an inspiration. So to see him with the brick by bricks and just doing his thing, he's definitely like up there for me in just terms of like doing what you want to do, you know.
00:48:21
Speaker
I didn't think that back then BMXing would kind of take over to him being such a household name. yeah Him specifically, right? And because, you know, we had Dave Merrill. We had a bunch of people over the years. Matt Hoffman. Matt Hoffman. had a bunch of guys, but these is household names that I'm speaking of, you know?
00:48:36
Speaker
But then you get Nigel and it's like, you look like me. You know, you from where I'm from. And then I would see like certain places he was riding his bike on on these episodes. I'm like, nigga, you on Kent Avenue. yeah Yo, you riding down my block. Like, yo, we might see this nigga in McCarrie. Like, yo...
00:48:49
Speaker
So like that was like a huge, he was it just a huge motivation for me to get fly and like wear my kicks for real. Yeah. So shout out to him. Shout out to shoutout to Nigel, man. Yeah, man There's another episode he gets shouted on. That's the man, yo.
00:49:05
Speaker
Let's jump into that, that the last pair of these white cements. these white cements i just think that's the best silhouette of all time. Yeah? The threes? Yeah, think threes. I'm a fours guy, as you can tell. i mean, they're right there.
00:49:17
Speaker
I think they pick their days, right? You think like, I personally, though, just feel I have a skinnier ankle. Yeah. And fours kind of like spread out a little bit for me. So after a while, the fours would look kind of wide, like fives. Yeah. They would kind of give me that.
00:49:32
Speaker
You have some height on you, so... You get to balance it out with the shoe. and But when you wear like a nine and you're only five, eight, people start to notice your shoe little bit easier, right? like So with these, though, I realized I could kind of get them off any way possible.
00:49:48
Speaker
yeah And so um my real original pair is black cement threes. think that's my i still personal favorite. But if I would have brought those, you would have made fun of them. I did a lot, though.
00:49:58
Speaker
Oh, yeah? Yeah, yeah. Those have been through the trenches. look, the last Black Cement 3 went viral. So, the I don't know if you saw those. I had Andy on. And he showed his. They were cooked. No, he has he converted them into, we called them the Tres Leches. don't know if you saw it. Did you see No, I didn't see that one. I'll send you the pictureic You got to send me those.
00:50:15
Speaker
Yeah, those are crazy. Tres Leches Yeah, it's crazy. They look crazy. And then he just recently went viral again, turning the white cements into some like... Crazy Zapato. Word? That's fire. I need some cool like custom stuff. There's this guy on Instagram named Lorenzo Brimbo. I think that's his name. No, I think it's Lorenzo. Yeah, I don't want to know if I know Lorenzo. thought he was going to say Lorenzo OG who does the like the gradients. Oh, no, that's fire too. Yeah.
00:50:40
Speaker
But Lorenzo, he does the custom fitteds to the denim. Oh, yeah. He the MF Doom mask. out That dude is fucking dope. I want a pink bottle from him so bad. MF Doom, like a Jason mask, inky pink.
00:50:54
Speaker
Lorenzo, please. I've been DMing you for like six months, bro. I'm starting to think, curving me, bro. I'll take you out to eat, bro. Peter Lucas, bro. Peter Lucas, bro. That would be sick. Pink Bottom MF Doom. That would be crazy.
00:51:12
Speaker
That would be crazy. i'm a eatat You have to make two. hundred Yeah, I might have to. We need a sample. for yeah and
00:51:19
Speaker
oh But we're towards like the end of the podcast too close. ah I still got, we still got time. It's good. okay But, but I want to do this question. Okay. It's the last question I ask. It's always like ah deals with a little visualization.
00:51:32
Speaker
I want you to think back to, to young, young frosty preem, you know, ah he's just, he's just about to get those sports Yeah. But what'd you call him? I called him stealth. Stealth 14s.
00:51:46
Speaker
You know, um he's just about to get that those stealth 14s. Now you're you're older. You're you. Wiser you behind your younger self. What would you tell him as he opens that box?
00:51:57
Speaker
I would tell him appreciate those hundred and ten dollar sneakers, my dog, because they're not going one hundred and ten dollars. well I would probably tell him, save him. you know I would definitely try to tell myself, now looking back, like try not to wear them as much. like Keep them clean. you know And keep the box and like make sure you could keep up with them. Because there were sneakers that I just put in the garbage bags as a kid and threw them out, removed, and I never seen them again. i would just kind of ah even explain to my parents, like,
00:52:27
Speaker
these are going to be worth something one day. Like, you what I'm saying? Like, you should get pair too. Like, dead stock a pair, mom. you know saying? Dad, dead stock a pair. So, like, I would definitely probably tell myself just to pay more attention to the stuff that I had. Even now, you know, you don't know what could be a collectible.
00:52:44
Speaker
You're thinking that it's just an in-the-moment thing and then in 20 years, 10 years, 5 years now because of how time moves, you know, somebody's willing to pay whatever for that moment that they want back, like speak on. him So...
00:52:57
Speaker
you know i think it'll just it just depends on the moment depends on the people it depends on the memories because there's certain things that you probably would be like cream you'll pay that much for that and be like it's a moment for me yeah you know i do think that it's like i always tell people because i tell people don't pay resale but like why because i just don't like i just i'd rather there's always going to be another shoe but i will say that is true yeah there's there's always going another shit there's just brass tacks like there's going to be like Yeah.

Sneaker Culture Challenges

00:53:25
Speaker
If I don't get the Galaxy phones, you know? Like, I didn't get the Galaxy phones in 2013. If I don't get them now, like, I just wait. Like, I'll wait until they get re-retro'd again, you know? Or it's just a shoe that end up not getting. Yeah, And I'll be okay with And that's fine, too, you know? I can't have everything. Exactly. And the day you can, you probably wouldn't even want those. Right, yeah. I mean, we talk about it on here, like, the...
00:53:46
Speaker
Just the people people think that the barrier of entry of like, you know, you can just buy whatever you want. Now you're part of sneaker culture. That's not it. You're missing all the history. You're missing all the. You're missing the heartache. Yeah. The heartache is what brings the hunger. Yeah, exactly. Yeah. So it's like, yeah, I mean, you're not going to get back the stories of like the time I was in line at Prem and.
00:54:06
Speaker
And like you didn't get what you wanted. and wo I was third fourth in line for the SB. The first SB Jordans, the Craig Steck ones. Yeah. the The black and green joints. Bro, they had to didn't get a pair for four fourth in line, bro.
00:54:21
Speaker
And then all of a sudden, homies pulled up with the chairs and was like, oh, no, we here being all night. And I was just like, that's crazy. That's crazy. So then now umm now I'm like eighth in line, right?
00:54:32
Speaker
Eighth in line. And then we get in. I'm thinking like, all right, cool. Size 13. Nobody's going to pull up with a 13. They only had four pairs. And they ah all four of the dudes in front of you were size 13. Nah, they only had four pairs total. Oh, that's terrible. you This is when Prem was doing crazy back doors. Yeah.
00:54:49
Speaker
So pause. I mean, yeah. But they they definitely, they started to, you know, that wave of oh yeah showing up. You first in line. There's no smalls. No smalls.
00:55:01
Speaker
I'm like, the store just opened. How you don't have anything? There's no smalls. I remember I got this suit. Shout out my boy, Pop, Mr. Nice Pair. And I was in front of Hat Club. I didn't even go to the drop. And Pop comes walking down the street.

Navigating Exclusive Fashion

00:55:13
Speaker
And he's like, here's your shit, man. So everybody like, oh, it's a medium, right? Because they had no s'mores. They had no s'mores. I was there. I was there. I'm telling you. They're like, I was in there first. I got there before pop.
00:55:25
Speaker
I'm like, bro, this is a s'more. My man's really grabbed a hoodie, checked the neck collar, all that. I'm like, bro, what the fuck you doing to me? He's like, nah, this nigga got a s'more, bro. That's crazy. Yo, Supreme, that's what you doing? I'm like...
00:55:38
Speaker
Bro, you just got to be the one, bro. You got to be tapped in. I mean, that's anywhere. That's anywhere. When I worked at Nike, I had less access to sneakers than when I didn't work at Nike. Yeah.
00:55:49
Speaker
Like, that was terrible. Yeah. They dropped Travis Scott's. I was at work. I'm like, can I get a pair? They're like, if you move or if you scan yourself to get a pair, you're fired. That's correct. You were trying to get fired. that was That was the way.
00:56:02
Speaker
I wasn't trying to get fired that way. I needed unemployment. You know what i'm saying? I needed them to fire me.
00:56:09
Speaker
I needed a certain type of fire. i like It's like a logwood fire. Yeah. like I couldn't get fired that Thursday. No. Yeah. I mean, now it's definitely totally different now. Like access now is, is not the same. It was five, five years ago or nothing like that. Like the people are getting stuff just by being in the vicinity and just being like cool with people. But I think that's better. Like, yeah.
00:56:35
Speaker
If you were able to build the relationship to make it happen for you, then you deserve it. Yeah, you get you get the you did the lead work. Yeah, mean, yeah. there's a lot of people that still don't deserve it. You know the people in charge and just end up with it like...
00:56:50
Speaker
It is what it is. Nah, look, even those people, because they got, they wasn't like, yo, yo, know all of a sudden they're born with that access, you know? That's true. You had to learn across the way and if your friends or your homies.
00:57:02
Speaker
and Right, yeah. Like they Nike just sent me band ones. ah huh And all my friends like, that's bullshit. Exactly. why they sending you band words I'm like you hate ass nigga why not like for what you make hats them to send you hats y'all hating like shit I was gonna bring them today but I'm like everybody kinda knows those I mean I didn't get the invite. I didn't get any.
00:57:29
Speaker
So

Networking in Exclusive Circles

00:57:30
Speaker
I'm with them. size are you? 13. It's not happening. I can't help you. It's not happening for me. It's not happening for me. I mean, look, that that was fire. I like that. I like the whole getting invited. Yeah. I mean, I didn't do all the extra stuff. I don't really like people.
00:57:45
Speaker
So even if I probably did get invited to something like that, probably like one of the homies would have to write to me like, yo, are you going? And I'll be like, i I wish somebody wrote to me and asked me if I was going so I could tell them no.
00:57:57
Speaker
And so they could be like, yo. You know what's crazy, though? A lot of times, bro, that shit be really just like, if you there, you there. Yeah. Like, you could write to one of the homies like, yo, bro, I'm popping out. He'd be like, come through, bro. Like, I'll let you in. Or like...
00:58:10
Speaker
That shit is all favoritism too, bro. And also, you got to remember, it's out of sight, out of mind. A lot of times, like I've been places with someone, and I'll be like, yo, just come with me right quick. And you're like, yo, bro, what we doing? I'm like, we about to pull up to this event. And next you know, we're seeing Chorset at Dykeman. You're oh, this is a cool event. yeah Yeah. I mean, you were with me, so let's go. Yeah. Rather than like waiting and calling one of my homies and being like, where are you at? Let's link. I hate that part. Like the the whole like, let me try to make it happen. i can't that. And then it doesn't. I can't do that. Oh God. Just meet me there. I'm one of those guys. like yeah
00:58:43
Speaker
Or if it's like, if ah if I'm there already and it elevates to that. Then it's what happens. Yeah. Then that's fire. Yeah. Because I'm already outside. Let's keep it going. Yeah. Yeah. as I'll do that. Yeah. But like, if I'm like.
00:58:54
Speaker
Like, it's not like going to a concert and then... Seeing one of the homies at the concert. At the concert, and then you end up backstage. like That's kind of fire. That's fire. That's what I was saying. It's not like that. It's not like that. Yeah. Because that's different. That's super different. yeah I've never had that much of a good experience.
00:59:10
Speaker
Like, you see one of the homies, like, no, come through. No. No, never that. No? No. Well, when you perform it, I better get that. Yeah, yeah. You're going to be on stage. But, like, I'm trying to think.
00:59:23
Speaker
Yeah, no. Nah. I've been to a lot of concerts. My favorite concert still probably to this day was

Memorable Concert Experiences

00:59:29
Speaker
Yeezus. I didn't go to the Yeezus tour, but yay. um I seen him on New Year's Eve when he pronounced when he announced that Kim was pregnant. and yeah I was there when the ball dropped and he was performing. i was watching with the Yeti mask on and I cried.
00:59:43
Speaker
That shit was beautiful. That's crazy. It's Kanye West. It was so intimate. It was so like such a small... It was in Atlantic City on New Year's Eve, bro. You be in Atlantic City a lot, man. Not really. my My family used to be there as a kid. That's the only time I personally ever been to Atlantic City was to see Kanye.
00:59:58
Speaker
And that was number one on the list. And then number two was Kid Cudi. Yeah, I mean, that that would be a fire show. Yeah, I seen him in Williamsburg on Kent. Damn, small show? It was a small show. I was right against the gate. Music Hall? No, not even. It was outside. It was right at the pier.
01:00:13
Speaker
Oh. And he performed with Chip the Rip, but it was a Kid Cudi show, and it was free. That's crazy. oh it was like fitz It might have been like $10. I don't remember. I'm pretty sure the shit was free. And even if it wasn't, I was so close to Kid Cudi, bro, and that was like, that was amazing.
01:00:29
Speaker
That's fire.
