Introduction

Speaker
It is... The Fantasy Europeans. My name is Jared Dyke. I wanted to say it's stupid and let's move on, but then you kept going. I'm Ben Glauser. I don't like any way anybody gambled that. Collusion! Collusion!

Fantasy Rugby Discussion

00:00:27
Speaker
Hey everybody, welcome back. It is the fantasy rugby. Thanks. My name is Jared Dyke. I'm Ben Glauser. Let's roll fantasy corner time. Let's have some, let's have a look. I'm staying for the second one, just so I can keep my wits tomorrow for my actual job. Overrated. Yeah, right. But in the meantime, let's have a look at the Championks League division one.
00:00:57
Speaker
Two scores over a hundred, everybody else was kind of hovering around 80 or 70, so. And then there was me. Yeah. So Cobus beat Carrick, Justin, sorry, Justin, Justin fell the sword to me. Yeah. Mark got the better of George. And yeah, you, you, you served one up for Duncan over there. But yeah, I had, I had one player break 10.
00:01:25
Speaker
Yeah, that was it. Yeah, even Ted Hill had to try only had eight point eight. Like, yeah, it's not good. I was I was scrambling. I mean, the lineups were not friendly to me. And also bears being I'm going to miss Radra here when he's not around. So, yeah, those days hurt. Those days hurt. Not a good one. All right.

Weekly Matchup Previews

00:01:46
Speaker
Let's look at what's going on next week. This week, it'll be myself and Cobas. Let's give you a tough one. Carrick and Mark.
00:01:55
Speaker
Duncan and Justin, and then you get our old friend, George. Yeah. Oh, thank God. That means I'll go off. Maybe you might be, you might be the bug, the one that doesn't get that, man. I, like, yeah, I seem to recall the first matchup of the year. I totally hit a duck against him. Just totally hit a duck. Possibly. But he does have the bath being on by, he's got their Joe Moon Spencer. So, um,
00:02:23
Speaker
That helps me a huge loss. No, but he's got no other midfielder in reserve and he's got no other half back in reserve. So that's, that's two thing. Now he's going to have to cut somebody and I'm going to have to be looking lustily after whatever he drops. Perhaps, perhaps, perhaps, uh, these standings are, excuse me, she's a, um,
00:02:47
Speaker
creatures coming out of me here. Uh, the things are, uh, Duncan is leads one conference and Cobus leads the other. The runner ups right now are Mark and myself. I am the most vulnerable because I am that last spot. Yeah. You're seven and seven along with me and Justin. Right. It means I need to keep on hitting the dubs and this week against Cobus will not be fine. No, not for the toll. No, it will not.
00:03:15
Speaker
Let's jaunt on down to division two. Thank you very much to our deputy commissioner, Sophia, who has run to the leather. So we wish you well and get better soon. Yeah, get better soon. And in any case, um, we had Terry and Sophia do battles. Sophia came out on top.
00:03:36
Speaker
Good on her. The brightened experience a little bit, hopefully. Larry was able to down Stewart. So Larry's now back into the mix again. Alex again wins. Had 120, 123, did not have a half back either. And he had Jai Porter who only hit minus 1.2.
00:03:56
Speaker
We're giving him too much information. Yeah. We also, James, he also had James Ram and Tom Curry. So yeah, both carries actually. And they both scored well. Yeah. There you go. All right. That answers that. You may have to cancel his patron. Okay. Yeah. And then in a heck of a pillow fight, Luke took down John and
00:04:20
Speaker
John, um, unfortunately is looking a little bit, um, beleaguered to say the least. So we'll have to check in on him and make sure he's okay. The, um, the match-ups this week will be Luke and Terry, uh, John and Larry. Right. Go on.
00:04:40
Speaker
Luke and, what did I say Luke before? I meant Stuart and Terry, sorry. My fault. Totally, totally botched that. First mistake today. Franco and Luke. There we go. And then Alex and Sophia. Okay. The standings as it stands. Stuart isn't first in one conference. Alex isn't first in the other.
00:05:02
Speaker
Pulling up the back end is our two people from, uh, Stewart's conference, uh, Franco and Sophia right now, Frank was at 95. Sophia is at eight and six. The rest of them are at six and eight, six and eight, five and nine, three and 11. So they got some ground to make up down there. Well, yeah. Otherwise we're going to have a runaway with the first places, the, the playoff places here. Okay.

Match Analysis: Gloucester vs Saracens

00:05:30
Speaker
Let's do.
00:05:33
Speaker
Starts it starts it. All right. And I'm up first because I have you are the three matches. All right. Off to King's Home for Gloucester hosting Saracens. As we talked about on the pod. What I don't know what you do with Gloucester, the front row is is quality. So you got to start them, although now down to hooker, but they still have George McGriggin. So, yeah, start their front row. Then after that, like
00:06:03
Speaker
From a fantasy perspective, I think what you said earlier, Chad, you texted me today and said that like you've done a couple of the games and only this past week and only there were four teams that only had two or fewer. Five teams that had two or fewer players with 10 points. That's it. Two players with 10 points or 11.
00:06:27
Speaker
you know, maybe Chris Harris, he'll score okay. Seb Atkinson has been scoring okay, like enough to like, if you have a hole there, yeah, plug him in. He'll get six to 10 points and you live with it. Olly Thorley, maybe Johnny May, but they're bubble players at best because it's Saracens who have, you know, such a great fantasy defense that you just don't want to start players against them if you cannot at all avoid it. So Gloucester really are kind of a team to avoid here, if you can.
00:06:55
Speaker
Outside of, again, the front row and maybe Chris Harris is the guys you're like, OK, I can feel confident in starting them. But if even Chris Harris, if you got someone else go in that direction, consider. Yeah. Like I have him in one of our leagues. I am not going to start. Is it is it this league? Yeah, I have him. It's going to be Esther Hazen and Red Radra instead. Like, yeah, there's also a reason that I have Esther Hazen and Radra and Chris Harris is my third. Like, that's kind of he's the third center. The Saracens, the front row.
00:07:25
Speaker
Itoji, Earl, Farrell, Mailins, Good. And then the rest is line up dependent. But all those guys will get opportunities. I don't think Gloucester are pretty solid in defense, but so not all of them are going to score, but you're going to play them if you got them, because they could be them. Could be. Could be. Could be. All right, here we go. We're going up to Kingston Park, Newcastle and Leicester.
00:07:55
Speaker
So let's talk about the host first. So Lester have some spots that are very vulnerable and they have some spots that are very, very staunch. And some of those spots still might be worth playing a guy or two. So the front row defense has been good, but I still would play new castle just cause of blue Meyer. He is a special talent. There's no doubt about that. I don't like, like I've spoken of like some of the locks at new castle and maybe of the loose forwards.
00:08:24
Speaker
Guy Pepper's the only one that has me convinced he should play as a loose forward, because also Lester's loose forward defense is pretty tough. Yeah. Not convinced of any halfbacks. I don't love Cotton, as most people know, maybe in a pinch, but really try and find someone else if you can.
00:08:41
Speaker
Midfield, I'm terrified. No, the matchup's good, but no. And then, but Obies, I actually really like their usual starting three, Obate and Bow, Radwin and Carreras, all are worth a start. We'll all of them hit, probably not, but that's why you play them, just the same, because they're still worth a start. Four, the Tigers, hopefully we see- Don't start two of them. Start one, like- Yeah, right.
00:09:08
Speaker
Hopefully you're right. Hopefully you start the right one. Pick one, flip a coin, and then hope that that's the one. Yeah. So Tigers front row has not been great, and Newcastle defense is good. I'll give the front row so I would pass on them. George Martin's the only lock on Leicester that I like. So go with that. Again, outside of Jasper, maybe Rafel, maybe Levenberg, but Jasper's the only good to go, lose forward on Tigers.
00:09:36
Speaker
Scrum half. It's got to be JVP or nobody. Um, why half? Yeah. Pollard's good. Pretty burns. If he's healthy, either one of them, they're fine. If they have to go to Jimmy gops, God's be good luck. They're not going to, I don't see that going well. Uh, Porter and Kelly will be better this week. Assuming they're playing, this should be fine. Uh, for their OPs, I Watson, if he's healthy and Freddie, I still don't like Potter at all. No, it just hasn't done it for me this year. Nope.
00:10:08
Speaker
All right, off to Sandy butt crack.

Match Analysis: Exeter vs Northampton

00:10:10
Speaker
Exeter hosting Northampton. We talked about that on the rugby pod with, you know, there's not much there. So but this is a different story because I'm still of the opinion that the Saints defense from this past week was kind of a fluke. I'm also the opinion that I'm not sure Exeter can take advantage of that.
00:10:34
Speaker
Um, but at the same time it's, it's at Sandy park. So there's, there's a whole lot of fat. There's a lot of back and forth going here. Many factors here. I'd still go with exit, just front row. Cause at home that you could still get a pushover, you know, the Dave Ubers try off from some of the front or a mall over try. Like I know Dave Ubers in the front row, but I mean that style of power over from two meters out, right? Bully over. Um, and you know, sugarling is a douche, but every so often he goes on a tear for a try. Um,
00:11:04
Speaker
And again, Saints defense is suspect, so it could happen here. Chonza, Sam, and Joe Simmons. I think you got it after you got to play Sam. Joe, if there's, I don't know why you'd have a question mark about that, but start up.
00:11:21
Speaker
I normally don't even talk about this guy, certainly not in positive terms fantasy wise, but Slade is absolutely an option this week. And then the back three, yes, even though if he plays stardom, because you're probably gonna get 10 points from him. On the other side, for the Saints, Augustus, if he's healthy and back in the lineup, stardom, the Aussies in the pack as we, you know, we're talking about certainly Celica Lotto,
00:11:52
Speaker
Mitchell, yes, Finn or Grayson. Again, I have Finn Smith, but I'm not sure how banged up he is, so I picked up Grayson as a backup option in case, because I think he'll still score well against Exeter. Free shooting, well, how good is he?
00:12:09
Speaker
He's excellent. He should get a look this this this coming spring too. And then again, the back three from from Saints are quality. So and then it does depend on the lineup a little bit. But yeah, I like I do like the Saints against that exit or suspect defense, right? Right, right, right. OK, so. We're going back to the stoop. The twins and sharks, so.
00:12:37
Speaker
Did I make that up? Yep. No. Okay. So sale are pretty staunch against fancy defenses. They do have one or two spots to take advantage, but for the most part, I'm a little scared for if I'm a, if I'm a Quinn's fans can be tough. So for the Quinn's we know their front row is not that particularly good sales front row defense is excellent with the Quinn's not being a really top notch front row. That makes me say sit unquestionably.
00:13:06
Speaker
I would say so the week, but that's too easy. It's a layup not doing that loose forward.
00:13:12
Speaker
I'm terrified for Dom brand. If there's no kidding him and Evans, if he has at least one of them back, then play him. I would not play any of the others though. And that includes the two I just mentioned. So, because loose forward defense has been really staunch for sale. Scrum half. Yeah. Care is one of the better ones. So you got to play him. And who Tommy Allen's been so hot and cold. He really has. Close your eyes and hope, I suppose. Yeah. Put it this way. Like I,
00:13:39
Speaker
in that league, you know, in our league where I have Finn and I signed Grayson, it's because I also have Tommy Allen, and I'm not fucking playing him this week. Right, right. Just a really tough task in front of him there. Senators, it can be had a little bit, so I think Andre will be the one that take advantage the most, but of course, Martian is who he is, so possibility there. Yeah. Obies, Murley for sure.
00:14:08
Speaker
Probably think David, not Josh Bassett though. No, no, no. I like the guy, but no. He's scoring tries, but he's not scoring like running tries. He's not doing anything else. That's the thing. He's like scoring dot downs, which is not good for him. He's making amazing plays, but not helpful fantasy wise. No, it's a fantasy asset, not very helpful at all. Like when you're getting in a tribe without a defender beaten, without a clean break, without many meters made.
00:14:36
Speaker
It's... Yeah, pretty terrible. You're not getting many points. No. Quinn's fancy defense is middling, so that should present some opportunities for the likes of the sale attack here. The sale front row actually performed this past week, and if they continue to do what they did, I see them as an option. They could be what we prefer to as a streaming option here. This might be one of those matchups that are favorable, depending on what your other front row options are.
00:15:05
Speaker
Um, lose forward. Quinn's are surrounding a boatload to lose forwards right now. So I would totally give them a thumbs to give anybody in that background a thumbs up. Not John, not John. No, everybody else go like the curries and DDP and even JL. Yes. Give it a, give it a go. Uh, I, I don't like any of their half backs unless quirks healthy. Um,
00:15:27
Speaker
Quinn's are tough against fly-offs, but RDP's been one of the better fly-offs in fantasy, so I don't have a reason to sit him yet. He probably won't get you what he got this past week. He'll still serve well, though. It's probably like in the 12 to 50-point range, I would guess. I don't love any of the midfielders at sales, so pass unless it's a roll walk on the wing, but that's it.
00:15:52
Speaker
And yeah, and the wings and outside backs, Luke James, Joe Carpenter, yes. Maybe read, as I said before, Roblox and O-flats. Those are the ones. Yeah, maybe read, not. Bye. Correct. All right. And last but not least,
00:16:17
Speaker
to London Irish hosting Bristol.

Match Analysis: London Irish vs Bristol

00:16:21
Speaker
And that is, hold on, let me see. I'm bad at this, so I wanna try to practice. This is at, oh, G-Tech Community Stadium. I never have that, I never remember where the photo. They just put the sponsorship on it this season, I think. Okay, yeah, so it's confusing to me. Can be forgiven. Yeah, anyway, for the Irish, the front row has been kind of a mess.
00:16:45
Speaker
Uh, that's, I don't know what the hell happened this year. Um, that's creepy. He's been spending the last couple of weeks. Well, there's that too. Um, but even before that, like, therefore the props aren't doing what they normally do. Um, I don't know where, what, what, what's what Ollie Austen's has been doing. He likes Oliver now. Oliver, sorry. He likes Oliver now. Those that haven't heard. Um, anyway.
00:17:09
Speaker
I'm not recommending them, is where I'm going with that. Pearson and Gonzalez are really the only forwards that I would be pushing at this point. Ben White, I still like, as you know, maybe not enough to cut Mitchell, but god damn it. The 10 could have a good game. So if you're unclassy enough to have him on your team, go ahead and start him.
00:17:39
Speaker
Um, Ben hard Yance is just. Yep. Yeah. Um, Ollie has to Collins loader Stokes. Yes. Hopefully loader is healthy again this coming week. Don't need, they will need him. Um, and Sinti. Sorry. Yeah. When he's on the wing, he's, he scored well. The problem is that they've slotted him in at 13 a couple of times. That's annoying. That's not his spot. So now, um,
00:18:06
Speaker
I would like to see the OHC loader Cinti back three there. That'd be fun. That'd be fun. For Bristol, their front row, because I get that gnawing sensation in the back of my head that it's going to be Genge, Sinclair,
00:18:23
Speaker
and Thacker in between them which please please yeah if that's the case they'll be in my number one ranked front row this week probably Magnus hopefully he's back
00:18:37
Speaker
urine or Porter, or maybe both. Um, because again, they, they, they, both of them will score from, from the bench. Right. Um, AJ, hopefully he's there 10 and then could have a great match in this one. And then peers, rad, radra, I like you, but toy and, uh, if, if Pia's house back, which I hope he is, that would be very tasty. No more, no more, uh, Morahan.
00:19:03
Speaker
He's gone. He's gone. Yeah. Oh, wow. Yep. He's left. I think he's going back to Australia. Okay. I don't know. Maybe he's going to France. I think he's going to France. That's what they sign him as a medal. Somebody over there signed him as a medical joker.
00:19:18
Speaker
Okay. And, um, I remember hearing this conversation, actually, um, they weren't going to be able to offer him a long-term and this club is going to offer him something long-term, uh, after the season. So, um, and the Bristol were straight up with them and said, Hey, we probably aren't going to be able to offer you anything long-term. So I always said, okay, thanks for being honest. And he went on his way. Yeah, I don't, I like Luke more hand. Don't get me wrong.
00:19:48
Speaker
But we all know, like, I think my feelings on him are, you know, decent player, but kind of a jag. Yeah, we're on a hand sometimes. Yeah. Yeah. He does stupid shit sometimes. And yeah, I'm not I'm not a huge fan of his as far as. Right. I'm not a huge like admirer of his, I guess I like him, but not he's not a game changer as much. So, yeah, I don't think they're going to miss much. I think they've got the guys to
00:20:18
Speaker
Cause they, I mean, shit, even red Raja and, and, and, or Piers O'Connor can play on the wing and have, so not going to affect them too much. No, they'll be okay.

Fantasy Rugby Advice: Start or Sit?

00:20:30
Speaker
We have no quality. Plus they're getting, they're obviously getting max next year. That'll help them. Yep. That's happening. Okay.
00:20:41
Speaker
Pick them and then we're out of here. All right. No, we did. You didn't do the other weeks. Oh, sorry. Getting ahead of myself. This is why we have two of us. This is why we have two of us. One of us keep the other in check. Right. Mostly me. So start of the week.
00:20:59
Speaker
It's funny, both of my other weeks I have on different teams. But my start of the week, I still don't trust Northampton's defense. As I've said, I will continue to say until I start trusting them, which will probably not be this year. Same. So it's fairly easy as one of my picks to look at who they're playing and see what they got. It just seems perfect for Joe Simmons to have a great game.
00:21:25
Speaker
So Joe Simmons is my start of the week rebound game. So my start of the week free band gaming practice girl. Yeah. Right. Um, so my side of the week is actually from that game, from that team. Um,
00:21:38
Speaker
Again, I think he's, I still think he's one of the top players at this position, certainly for fantasy wise, considering the position's depth is kind of mad to begin with, but I still think he has the ability to be one of the top ones. And that's me saying this about this team. So just keep that in mind. But my start of the week is going to be Henry Slade from Exeter. Oh, it's a good shout. Yeah, just Saint Sir.
00:22:05
Speaker
having too, too hard of a time defending a bar this past weekend. Yeah. I think Slick could have a, you know, I even like it's funny cause I even mentioned him to the same kind of way. Like, wow.
00:22:18
Speaker
Slade. All right. Right. Yeah. Especially since midfield is kind of tough to feel like it is. You look at all the, just the guys that are out there, the filler guys, like, and not even like Chris Harris has the ability to break the game up and quite like Henry Slade does. Chris Harris is a great player. Don't get me wrong. One of the best defensive 13s out there. That's such a hard position to defend. Right. For the sake of fantasy, that's really hard to say that, um,
00:22:42
Speaker
Chris Harris is going to be better than Henry Slade. I agree. This week certainly. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I think two of the better ones are on the other side usually as well. Hutchings and dings. Yeah. That being said, that's where we're at. Sit of the week. Well, I think if you haven't, if you've listened to anything I've said, this or everything I've said so far, this pod, it should not surprise you as to who my sit of the week is.
00:23:13
Speaker
mostly because I'm talking about my own team and looking at how I feel. Did we pick the same one? So my set of the week is Tommy Allen. Same, fucker. Now I might have to start him. Yeah, I know, right? Yeah, it's just not a it's a terrible matchup and he's been inconsistent. My exact reasoning. Yeah, I I don't see him. You know, I'm actually
00:23:41
Speaker
Is Marcus going to be available for this match? Is it possible or is he still out? Okay. He's not going to be back until... I think they're saving him until champions come. Right. Okay. So I wasn't sure if they wanted to give him a run beforehand, but if not... Might be on the bench. I don't think he's done. Yeah. But either way, I'm a big no. Like,

Predictions & Discussions

00:24:03
Speaker
Edwards, I might even trust there ahead of him. But right now, I would... No. I went to play well when he came in.
00:24:08
Speaker
Yeah. He played really well. So, and he has played well in the past. So it would not surprise me if he plays this much. Yeah. Just to change up. Yeah. All right. Now we can pick them. Now we can pick them. It's funny. I went through my pick them and then I just stopped and changed a bunch because I realized that I was being so like, I picked too many away teams. Yep. So I had to go back and revise that. Yeah.
00:24:38
Speaker
It was going to be a point. Yeah. Anywho. Gloucester and Sarries. Sarries. Sarries. I know, again, victory team's winning there, but yeah, this was not a good Gloucester performance, and I feel like Sarries has kind of got their shit figured out here, so. Right. And honestly, without Louis Reesamit on Gloucester, I, like,
00:25:05
Speaker
Saris are vulnerable on the wing because the you know, I'm well, I guess they're you know, at least they're defensively. Okay, but they're slow In a way that resam I could I easily exploit absolutely without without him. I mean Johnny May's not exploiting he's not faster than
00:25:24
Speaker
even Maitland at this point. So yeah, I'm not too worried about that. So I just don't know what the Gloucester is going to do to threaten them. This is, again, one of those, if Sarries play their game, that they're fine. They have to play it. They have to shut up the place like they did against the Irish. Yes, they would have to agree. Newcastle and Leicester.
00:25:47
Speaker
Lester. Yeah. Bounce back. I saw. Yeah. And Newcastle, I think they're now at this point, they would. It would surprise me if they did not end up bottom of the table. Hmm. Are we true? Because Bristol should pass them. I don't know. Maybe Irish fall alone, but Bath isn't going to. So. No, I don't think that's going to at all. Yeah. Not at all.
00:26:15
Speaker
Exeter Northampton. Exeter. Exeter. This is one of the ones where I was like, ah, the Saints can win this one. It's at home. It's at home. That's the only thing. If this was at the gardens, I'd totally back Northampton. But I agree. No. Quinn's on sale. Quinn's. As much as I've said, like, I don't think they're going to, it's going to be ugly. I think Quinn's win it.
00:26:38
Speaker
Right. They did manage to get the, my, my only contingency right now, my, or my only contention right now, excuse me, is Quinn's got this done at the AJ Bell, but that was the Marcus Smith show. Right. Really wondering. I think it's a bounce back for them. This is probably.
00:26:58
Speaker
a four point win, like in terms of standing points, not a bonus point try. And I bet I wouldn't be surprised. And I'm sure say we'll probably get a losing bonus point. This is going to be close. I agree. This is going to be one of those lower scoring. You know, if it's, you know, the over under is set at 40 ish. Take the under. Take the under. We still should have taken the over at that fucking.
00:27:21
Speaker
I didn't, I didn't pass. I didn't see any places to bet. Otherwise I absolutely would have. Right. I'm sure we could start one out anyway. London Irish and Bristol. London Irish. Yeah. Yeah. I hate the way again at home. I don't trust Bristol still. Right. But they've had, they've had the time to rest and that's my, that's why. That's a good point. Also it's a good point. I just, again, home team. I'm not sure Bristol are up for a road win.
00:27:53
Speaker
Maybe, maybe not. We'll find out. This is again another one of those where I just don't trust a team that's playing. They're playing bad. No other way to say it. And I don't trust teams that are playing bad on the road. I need to see them start playing more good rugby.
00:28:09
