We talk about upcoming video games, movies and tv series

Transcript

Kevin Dougherty: Welcome back to Fry Central. I'm Doc, back here again, finally, with Keck, as always. I know it's been a minute, even though I just put up the silo episode and the monkey episode last month.

KEck: It's all Doc's fault, though.

Kevin Dougherty: It is.

KEck: That's been so long. And there will be minor eating during the cast.

Kevin Dougherty: either

KEck: Very brief eating.

Kevin Dougherty: i had post-festival depression. Yeah.

KEck: Mmm. Talk about that.

Kevin Dougherty: Oh, ah yeah. ah This was the fourth Neotropolis, um which if you don't know, it's by the same people who Wasteland Weekend, which is a Mad Max immersive festival.

Kevin Dougherty: The Neotropolis is a cyberpunk version of that. And um yeah, they have.

KEck: You should post links. It looked amazing. He sold me on this.

Kevin Dougherty: Yeah. Yeah.

KEck: And I usually think this shit's real big time.

Kevin Dougherty: Yeah, because there's like it's like going to like, it's not just like a music festival. It's like it's an immersive one where you're like in costume. ah You don't have to participate in any of quests or anything, but it's like being in inside a video game.

KEck: All right.

Kevin Dougherty: and There's quests to do. There's ah a whole main storyline. You can join different allegiances. There's ah people, of factions, which I'm part of, where we create our whole storyline.

Kevin Dougherty: I got to send you the ah video clip of what we ended up doing in the back room, which we had so much trouble trouble getting up and running. We didn't end up getting it running until Saturday night.

KEck: Wait, did you say the back room?

Kevin Dougherty: Yeah, we had a morgue area.

KEck: Wow.

Kevin Dougherty: for we have a whole so yeah Our whole thing is a huge storyline where even like the the festival of runners who were doing the main storyline were saying that our

KEck: that

Kevin Dougherty: backstory was deeper than their allegiances. It had more lore to it. It was a huge compliment because we worked on that ah for a couple months.

KEck: wow

Kevin Dougherty: It took us a minute to get that story out.

KEck: So yeah, this is epic RPG, folks. Very fucking epic.

Kevin Dougherty: yeah so yeah It's not just like your regular harp either.

KEck: And this takes place where exactly abouts.

Kevin Dougherty: and In the Mojave Desert in ah California City, California. and It's a ah four day because it starts Wednesday and yeah and it goes through Saturday.

Kevin Dougherty: and it ends like it ends pretty much at four o'clock in the morning when the, when the music shuts off that night is pretty much what it is. I mean, there's still people hanging out all night, but I mean the official end time.

KEck: So people get like what?

Kevin Dougherty: No,

KEck: Like a two hour sleep window like from 4am to 6am is like quiet time.

Kevin Dougherty: no no, it's, uh, I think 10 is like quiet time, but, uh, the thing doesn't, it usually starts at like 12 when the official, uh, uh, storylines and stuff starting, uh, people, people are sometimes up before that, uh, you know, doing bartering and stuff, but like the official, like, uh,

KEck: okay.

Kevin Dougherty: storyline part they don't open till 12 and they usually stop at like five or six and then there's like a story event like wrap up uh at like seven seven thirty you know give people enough time to change into their night clothes because i mean even though it's in the desert it is in april and it gets cold at night i'll tell you that and it was a little windy uh did rain a little bit this year but it wasn't too bad

KEck: yeah Oh, yeah.

KEck: and

Kevin Dougherty: so But i I thought it was a fucking fantastic festival overall, and I can't wait to go back next year. And we already started and planned for shit.

KEck: Many people.

Kevin Dougherty: So we don't have to change our story, and we don't have to change anything in our back room. We just got to upgrade, it and we're going to be fucking good. and i'll i'll ah But yeah, go to neotropolis.com or the Facebook page.

Kevin Dougherty: Check it out. YouTube. Yeah, you got somebody...

KEck: Yeah, I mean, don't.

Kevin Dougherty: Sorry, sorry go ahead. Yeah.

KEck: yeah um Yeah, I think that ah that is just really, really, really dope that um you guys do that. It's out in the middle of the desert.

KEck: It's, like, very reasonably priced. It seems like it's, like, growing every year. And I also think it's really cool that, like, it seems like – Considering the amount of people there and the amount of like drug use, like you said, like one of the most tragic things that has happened out there is people like having like, you know, drug overdoses.

KEck: Although you said that not many people have died, but there's been.

Kevin Dougherty: No, i don't think anybody's i don't think abas died. Most people usually end up in the medic tent for um either being drunk and fallen, you know, or ah for dehydration are the two most common ones.

Kevin Dougherty: not I don't think there's been really...

KEck: but Well, that's even that's even better then.

Kevin Dougherty: Yeah. Yeah.

KEck: These are also considering where they are. And, you know, like you said, it gets very cold in desert at night. Like if you are not prepared, like, you know, that's how like you get like hypothermia and that's how you can even get like pneumonia and like fluid buildup in your lungs is because of those rapidly changing temperatures.

Kevin Dougherty: Yeah.

KEck: That like basically like condesst moisture in your respiratory system.

Kevin Dougherty: yeah

KEck: um And

Kevin Dougherty: I would say during the day it was pretty mild this year i mean it started out ah hot and nice and then it got more during the week

KEck: when you say mil mild in the desert during the day, what exactly do you mean?

Kevin Dougherty: it started at like 80 and by Saturday it was down to like 60 during the day but then it would drop to like 40 at night or whatever

KEck: oh that's fantastic. the The point I was trying to make is is that another thing that I feel is really amazing is that how safe these events are based on their location and based on the amount of people.

Kevin Dougherty: Oh, absolutely, yeah.

KEck: You said you had around like what, like between four and 5,000 people this year?

Kevin Dougherty: No, this one's only, ah this the that's more of the size of the Wasteland one. Neo's only was only 2,500.

KEck: Mm-hmm.

Kevin Dougherty: So it's about half that size.

KEck: Oh, wow. Yeah. I'm sorry. ah Only 2,500. Yeah. yeah

Kevin Dougherty: Yeah.

KEck: To me, that's like kind of a lot of people, but yeah. All right. So only 2,500.

Kevin Dougherty: Yeah, I mean, compared to

KEck: Yeah. Obviously it wasn't burning, man. I get that.

Kevin Dougherty: Yeah, exactly.

KEck: Like, you know what I mean?

Kevin Dougherty: Yeah. Yeah.

KEck: Just 2,500 people out in the middle of the desert is a lot of oh the people. Like, I mean, that's the size of a moderate sized town.

KEck: Yeah. You know I mean?

Kevin Dougherty: yeah as I mean, we we build a small city out there.

KEck: Like, yeah, yeah.

Kevin Dougherty: so yeah.

KEck: yeah Yeah, I mean, that that's considerably larger than the city that ah they bought for, or they built for, what's his name, Oppenheimer, when he was doing, like, the bomb research out there, I think.

Kevin Dougherty: And everyone...

Kevin Dougherty: yeah You mean the movie lied?

KEck: At least according to the movie, unless the movie lied. But, uh...

KEck: At any rate, you told me that um you have had over the break. And by the way, like, you know, I mean, like we don't have like many people that listen. um And i think a good reason for that is is because we're just so inconsistent.

KEck: We're really, really going to work on trying to have like more consistent discussions.

Kevin Dougherty: also don't promote it at all either. So that's a little...

KEck: Well, top of that, like if you discuss things that people are interested in, like, you know, it's like, um, you know, uh, Kevin Costner in the mid, ah, uh, feel the dreams.

Kevin Dougherty: Yeah,

KEck: You know, if you build it, he will come like, you know what mean? It's, it's that type of thing. Um,

Kevin Dougherty: yeah I mean, I'm more interested in talking about what we want to talk about.

KEck: Regardless, not I wasn't really trying to go through that whole rabbit hole um because you ah now I've like lost my train.

Kevin Dougherty: love what people do.

Kevin Dougherty: Yeah.

KEck: I thought that was like supposed to just be a very, very, very small side note.

Kevin Dougherty: Oh, sorry.

KEck: And did I just get fucked? Did you just skeefe me?

Kevin Dougherty: Yeah, you were talking about Field Dreams.

KEck: oh

Kevin Dougherty: If you build it, they will come.

KEck: No, before that, there was like um a point I was about to make, and i just said,

Kevin Dougherty: About consistency? You were saying we'll be more consistent and...

KEck: Yeah, I guess yeah there was something else that we're going to try to be more consistent, but then there was something that was coming after that. That was, again, a side note. Fuck. God damn it.

Kevin Dougherty: oh

KEck: Well, that's gone. Anyway, um well, I'm at total loss.

Kevin Dougherty: yeah Why don't you tell me about this ah don' you tell me about this box that you got in the mail that you keep thinking I send it to you?

KEck: I've been asking a whole bunch of people who sent me this box. It is... um And this is and incredibly boy creepy because it seems to be more than a replica.

KEck: There feels like there's something inside it of the lament configuration, which is basically the box from Hellraiser. And I can tell that it comes Um,

KEck: um

Kevin Dougherty: Well, let's have an unboxing video.

KEck: There is no boxing video.

Kevin Dougherty: No, have you ever seen those on YouTube? They're like ah people have unboxing videos where they like take some toy out or whatever and they put it together or yeah.

KEck: Oh, yeah, yeah. But it came just this. And nothing.

Kevin Dougherty: No, that's what I'm saying. Could you imagine doing a unboxing video of that and you have solve the puzzle and open the box and they come.

KEck: Yeah. And the chains. That would not be good for me.

Kevin Dougherty: Somebody should make somnna make that a short YouTube video.

KEck: I've been trying...

KEck: I've even been doing this. And then the weird thing about this, this isn't like cheap plastic. This is made of wood and some kind of... That's metal.

Kevin Dougherty: Yeah.

KEck: Like... steel. Like, you know what I mean?

Kevin Dougherty: Do you think Doug Bradley himself or Clive Barker sent it to you?

KEck: No, I don't think Clive Barkley sent it to me, but...

Kevin Dougherty: but I mean, I could have sent him a message to be like, yo, can you just sign this and like say it's from you?

KEck: Yeah, it's just really strange. Like I actually moved a little bit.

Kevin Dougherty: Yeah, you probably can actually solve it. They have them for sale.

KEck: Oh, wait a minute.

KEck: Oh, yeah. well Look.

Kevin Dougherty: Yeah, yeah. You can pop that out and so and turn it and shit and solve

KEck: that Oh, boy. I'm not going to go back.

Kevin Dougherty: it. There's just like some creepy dude in chains in the back of behind you on the wall.

KEck: I really don't like that kind of stuff, dude. I did not want, I knew, i had heard that they had sold replicas of those things and stuff like that.

Kevin Dougherty: Yeah, that lack actual working ones, yeah.

KEck: But this one's like very real real seeming. Like it's heavy too. Like it's got like a lot of weight to it.

Kevin Dougherty: Yeah.

KEck: And I looked online and everything said, oh, cheap plastic. replica, stuff like that. Like, this thing was heavy. And it came with, like, um I had seen online ones come with, like, a stand.

KEck: And the stand was, you know, just, like, cheap plastic.

Kevin Dougherty: Oh, yeah.

KEck: This thing came with, like, ah like a heavy paperweight stand.

Kevin Dougherty: Damn.

KEck: Like, yeah, dude.

Kevin Dougherty: Yeah.

KEck: So, like, who yeah, so whoever sent this spent money.

Kevin Dougherty: Yeah, i've seen I've seen the good ones on um online before because I think they just came out online. Yeah.

KEck: No return the dress. I figured after like a few days...

Kevin Dougherty: Hey, i don't I don't know your address. I don't even have your address down offhand, so don't say it on air.

KEck: you could you could you could have found You could have found it, though. um You could easily find my address. It's somewhere in my contacts.

KEck: It's somewhere.

Kevin Dougherty: Yeah, maybe.

KEck: but

Kevin Dougherty: yeah

KEck: I don't know. I asked Minor, but like then I thought, like wait a minute. For Minor to do it, he would have had to like at least put in the effort to be you know nice and do something selfless.

Kevin Dougherty: go on a computer?

KEck: You know, and I was like, that's just not his style. You know what mean? Like he had.

Kevin Dougherty: Unless he sold it, like, maybe they sold it at the record shop and he copped it for you.

KEck: No, I don't even think if he got it for free, he would do that.

Kevin Dougherty: Yeah.

KEck: I don't think that they would pay him and he would do that anyway.

Kevin Dougherty: yeah

KEck: But the yeah from what I understand, you were telling me you had like a substantial amount of news um since we last spoke.

Kevin Dougherty: Oh, I do. um Well, let's see. I guess ah first off, I can give you some Dune news. That'd be Dune Prophecy. and We just did a cast about that not too long ago.

KEck: Yeah.

Kevin Dougherty: ah The season two starts production August 18th. So it looks like we're probably not going to get that till, you know, um I would say at least spring of the next year.

Kevin Dougherty: But it's nice to know that they're starting production on that soon.

KEck: And this is dim prophecy.

Kevin Dougherty: Yes, yes, because the Dune Messiah, I believe, comes out Christmas next year. So we'll probably get season two of Dune Prophecy before we get the movie Messiah.

KEck: Right on. That's pretty cool. um What else is in production right now or in post-production or I guess like Greenlit?

KEck: Do you have a list of anything like that?

Kevin Dougherty: Oh, on my... I mean, there's been some things I've wanted to check out that are on my ah list that I can get into a little bit later and our ah kind of general discussion.

Kevin Dougherty: ah But I can give you some ah video game news, actually, because ah the Summer Game Fest was this past weekend, Friday, Saturday, I believe, and

KEck: Which title?

Kevin Dougherty: And they've announced a couple of games. The ninth of the main Resident Evil series has a reveal trailer and release date. It's Resident Evil Requiem.

Kevin Dougherty: And it comes out early next year.

KEck: That was inevitable. They said that there was going to be Resident Evil... nut Well, first off, Resident Evil in Japan, for some reason, is called Biohazard.

Kevin Dougherty: Yeah.

KEck: They've never called Resident Evil. I'm not sure why, but it is what it is. And that's where like the subtitles have come from often, to distinguish the different ones. And i knew after...

KEck: Because, you know, ah Resident Evil, Resident Evil, I think it was Resident Evil 5 sort of took Resident Evil in like, well, Resident Evil 4 took the franchise in a different direction.

KEck: More of like a live action with like a lot of like melee combat and stuff like that.

Kevin Dougherty: Thank you.

KEck: And Resident Evil 5 sort of followed in that footsteps. Now, I never played 6 because I heard it wasn't like very good. But then Resident Evil 7 took it back to more of like a first person shooter.

KEck: And people claim that that would take it into the future. And then what Resident Evil 8 did. was it kind of integrated both elements of like the shooter and like the, ah you know, more traditionalist gameplay.

KEck: And I think what Resident Evil 9 was going to do was expand on that. So... I have been looking forward to this since I heard that it was 100.

KEck: Well, I knew it was going to be green light. I think the Resident Evil franchise is going to go on for years and years and years. like Well,

Kevin Dougherty: Yeah, even if the movies continue to come out and suck, the games are going to wellll just continue because it's such a popular title.

KEck: Yeah, I don't know. yeah I think they should just stop the movies. And ah don't get me wrong, Resident Evil might stop. I think we'll probably see at least Resident Evil 10.

KEck: At the very least, we're going to see Resident Evil 10. And then they're going to want to say, oh, well we're going to fuck with the Roman numerals or something. So my prediction...

Kevin Dougherty: Yeah, you know it'll be... It'll be Resident Evil X, for sure.

KEck: Yeah, it'll be Evil X, and I'm going to say they're going to take it to maybe Resident Evil 15, and then i think what might happen is they're going to stop calling it Resident Evil, and they'll just re-bandage and repackage the franchise as something else, because you're going to, you know, Resident Evil 16, Resident Evil 17, no.

Kevin Dougherty: Yeah.

Kevin Dougherty: Yeah.

Kevin Dougherty: Well, I think you just go with what they're calling it and just, and you don't, you're not calling it, you know, Resident Evil 9 Requiem.

KEck: the

Kevin Dougherty: You're just calling it Resident Evil Requiem.

KEck: Yeah, well, the same thing with Resident Evil 8, The Village, but no, everybody calls it Resident Evil 8.

Kevin Dougherty: Yeah.

KEck: It's just the way they...

Kevin Dougherty: Yeah, but I'm saying the official title, that way you're not like, you know, you're not getting pigeonholed and having to put the numbers in.

KEck: Yeah. No.

Kevin Dougherty: You just give it a subtitle.

KEck: I understand that.

Kevin Dougherty: Yeah. Yeah.

KEck: It's just not what fans call it. And that, that, that's the whole thing. And at some point you have to reboot, you have to come on.

Kevin Dougherty: Okay, but fans will always call, like...

KEck: Like there's only so many times you can repackage the exact same ideas without adding drastically rapid features to keep your audience.

KEck: Like,

Kevin Dougherty: yeah, I'm sure they'll do that, but I'm just saying, like, they're I don't think they're gonna, you know, necessarily come out with one that'll be a sequel to another one, or and it'll just be set in the same world.

Kevin Dougherty: with different stories, you know what I mean? like and whatever people call it, they're going to call it. That's not anything you can stop. But I mean, if you're not like, even if you were to have like a reboot next, people would be like, Oh, you know, Resident Evil 10, the reboot, like people will just call it Resident Evil 10, even if it's a reboot, you know what I'm saying?

Kevin Dougherty: So it doesn't matter what people call It's what you call it. That that was really going matter as long. I mean, it depends on if you want to make it a sequel or not.

KEck: I think we're talking about two completely different things. So yeah, I have no idea what you're talking about, but like, I think we're talking about, anyway, moving moving moving on from the confusion of Resident Evil.

Kevin Dougherty: Anyway, moving on.

KEck: But anyway,

Kevin Dougherty: Yeah.

KEck: The good news is here, Resident Evil 8, although I'm only halfway through it, I think was dope. I think Resident Evil 8 had some of the best virtual reality features that I have yet to see in any horror video game.

KEck: So if like you have it for PS5, the PSRV2, and I think the PSRV3 is now out, I highly recommend checking that out. um For PC, you also have VR options. I think PlayStation...

KEck: Unfortunately, because it's console restricted, I do you think they have the best VR I've ever seen. But yeah, it's really, really, really dope. So um if you can check that out. ah Moving on to the next, was the next one another video game title or was your next piece of news...

Kevin Dougherty: Yes.

Kevin Dougherty: ah The next one is Ill. um It's a first-person action horror game that takes place in a dark fort overtaken by mysterious entity. It looks very, you know, ah dead alive, Resident Evil-ish, ah you know, a little Silent Hill.

Kevin Dougherty: Apparently that one was, like, announced a while ago.

KEck: Can you spell that?

Kevin Dougherty: I-L-L?

KEck: I, oh, so just like ill, like I am ill, like I am feeling ill.

Kevin Dougherty: Ill. Ill. Yeah, like, these people...

KEck: Oh, okay.

Kevin Dougherty: These people look ill. Yeah.

KEck: Okay, gotcha. Gotcha.

Kevin Dougherty: oh

KEck: Yeah, there there was like a Resident Evil game that I started playing that looked really cool. The problem is, is that I couldn't get into it at all because it really required a second player.

KEck: I was trying to get you to play it, but you were busy. It was like one of those Game Pass games. It looked really cool.

Kevin Dougherty: Oh, yeah, yeah.

KEck: was actually a lot of fun. You had the shovel and the shotgun and everything. The graphics were pretty cool. You had to like work together to maintain quest. You would get scared if you have your flashlight on for long enough. Like it it was fun. It looked cool, but you had to play with somebody else.

KEck: Is all like that?

Kevin Dougherty: Yeah.

KEck: Is it like, you know, like the Friday the 13th?

Kevin Dougherty: No, no, no. It's like a first-person, like a Resident Evil-style game.

KEck: and So, so it's survival horror pretty much.

Kevin Dougherty: It's survival horror, yeah.

KEck: Yeah.

Kevin Dougherty: It says, monsters and a visceral dismemberment system.

KEck: Yeah.

Kevin Dougherty: Whatever that means.

KEck: Meh. Well, that's what, I wonder if Resident Evil 9 will go back to its root, well, I want to say its roots, because its roots weren't in co-op, but like, ah for example, Resident Evil 5, you could actually play co-op, and with the um you know what popularity and cooperative play games, it would be dope if Resident Evil 9 featured that, but I have no idea.

Kevin Dougherty: Yeah.

Kevin Dougherty: Yeah, from the little trailer they showed, I didn't really notice anything. I didn't really read it it, but it looks like ah yeah it looks like a very regular just one-player game as well.

KEck: notice anything

KEck: yeah well I mean co-op is a really big investment and sometimes cooperative play adding that can actually really gut the budget because you have to like focus so much on server costs and things like that and it's sometimes a lot better to just have all the money spent in the game you know I mean so anyway moving on

Kevin Dougherty: Yeah.

Kevin Dougherty: Yeah, yeah.

Kevin Dougherty: And then there's a ah new Dying Light one called The Beast. That one does have a release date of August 22nd, 2025. I've never played that one, but that's like a zombie game.

KEck: Should I ask, um do any of these games have any um

Kevin Dougherty: First person.

KEck: ah exclusive

Kevin Dougherty: They have trailers. No.

KEck: exclusivity? I'm not sure if exclusivity is actually a word, but um are any of them exclusive to a console?

Kevin Dougherty: No.

Kevin Dougherty: Yeah, no, it's...

Kevin Dougherty: ah No, it's not saying. I mean, it's... No. I definitely see that Ill was ah available on Steam and everything as well, so um don't think of them are exclusive.

Kevin Dougherty: At least then not from... what I mean, most of these are just trailers. um don They're not a lot of game footage.

KEck: Oh yeah, yeah, yeah.

Kevin Dougherty: So I don't know...

KEck: Oh

Kevin Dougherty: if they're going any consoles, uh, there is another one, little more sci-fi, uh, from the people from the developer of Warhammer 4,000, uh, is the expanse Osiris reborn.

Kevin Dougherty: And that actually has like a, um, it looked like it might be, it could be multiplayer, but I'm not really sure. It's definitely like, it looks like a lot like, uh, the new mass effect.

KEck: oh yeah.

Kevin Dougherty: Um, and yeah it's like they show like a trailer but then towards the very end it was like the very early stages of like you know the graphics and what and what you can do and shit so it's like it's like the alpha version oh

KEck: Wait, what is the newest Mass Effect? are you You're not talking about Mass Effect and drama, though, are you?

Kevin Dougherty: i think i think so i think that's the newest one right

KEck: but So the Mass Effect that came out like seven years ago, that one, just so we're unclear.

Kevin Dougherty: Oh, it might be maybe it maybe the remake? I don't know. It just says it's like it's kind of like the similar play, not the rock.

KEck: Oh, like the Mass Effect, the legendary version that came out recently, that was a remake of the first three of them.

Kevin Dougherty: Yeah, I believe so.

KEck: Is that what you're talking about?

Kevin Dougherty: yeah it's just It's not necessarily that the the graphics, it's just the game style play.

KEck: Oh, okay.

Kevin Dougherty: It's like a story-driven RPG.

KEck: Gotcha. Oh, okay.

Kevin Dougherty: You know what i mean?

KEck: When you said new Mass Effect, I was like, oh, shit.

Kevin Dougherty: Yeah. Yeah.

KEck: Like, does Doc know about a new Mass Effect that I'm just not aware of?

Kevin Dougherty: the

KEck: Like, you know what mean? Like, that perked my interest, like, right away.

Kevin Dougherty: Yeah. No, you ah you like create your own you know captain.

KEck: So...

Kevin Dougherty: ah um you get your advanced ship. You lead a crew. You have companions and shit. and

KEck: Yeah.

Kevin Dougherty: it's ah It's a third-person combat with real-time cover mechanics, various abilities, and squad coordination. And just like in Mass Effect, you bring two companions into combat while all there's support from behind the scenes.

Kevin Dougherty: So I don't know if that means you just bring players to help you out, or if that means it's like multiplayer.

KEck: Well.

KEck: Well. I don't know about any of that, but I know you have Crystal Lake news that you've been torturing the wit for a while and you want to save it for the end, but I might forget this.

KEck: ah Otherwise, um when we're talking about ah these games and games that might come out...

Kevin Dougherty: I won't forget it.

KEck: um When ah you said Mass Effect, I thought about RPGs. and when I think about RPGs, i always think about what made me fall in love with them.

KEck: And that was Knights of the Old Republic. And

Kevin Dougherty: Yes, that's what I was thinking, that type of game style where you bring people with you.

KEck: yeah well, it recently came out because it had been pretty much dismissed that the remake, not the remaster, the remake of Knights of the Old Republic just simply wasn't happening.

Kevin Dougherty: Oh, yeah, I did hear that.

KEck: Well,

Kevin Dougherty: Yeah.

KEck: um after several people had been keeping up on it, a few months ago, the people that are making it, which I believe is called Saber Entertainment, like, you know, Lightsaber Entertainment, um they listed it as not only ah is it a game that they intend to make, but it's a game that is in active production.

KEck: ah So for any fans that had thought like there's no way in hell. this is ever going to come out right now um the last time i checked was about 30 days ago and uh someone on reddit left a link to the saber website of 2025 games that are in active production and that was listed now i did not see an official ro release date but it looked like could

KEck: theoretically come out as early as 2026. No,

Kevin Dougherty: Maybe. We'll see. like Like Crystal, like I have no faith in that coming out next year.

KEck: yeah but ah Again, I'll believe when I say it.

Kevin Dougherty: yeah

KEck: But the fact that, like, they have already assembled a team to, like, get together... Because, like, it costs a lot of money to get a whole bunch of people in the same room. And when you um are going to develop a video game, you have to order, like, fucking...

KEck: hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of fucking equipment to like set up like your full like studio for that game you're also going to have green screens it's sort of like making a miniature movie the way they make games now with all the stuff they put into them So like, it's a big investment when production starts.

Kevin Dougherty: Oh, yeah.

KEck: Now, granted, you could just scrap that and repurpose it for another project. It's not like, oh, we make this game and then we throw everything away. You know what I mean?

Kevin Dougherty: Yeah, yeah.

KEck: So like, I'm not trying to make it seem like, oh, yeah, it must be made.

Kevin Dougherty: Yeah.

KEck: But the fact is, they have assembled a team, they have contracted people to write the story.

Kevin Dougherty: No, they're not starting from scratch every time. Yeah.

KEck: And well, the story is already written, but they have contracted people to like reintegrate that.

Kevin Dougherty: Yeah.

KEck: into what they're doing. So, i mean, steps have been taken. So I take it as a positive. Anyway, moving on with the news. um You had mentioned Crystal Lake, but you had a few things before that.

Kevin Dougherty: Yeah, like got one more. Well, like it's it's all about one thing, but it's two separate news types.

KEck: It's all about one thing.

Kevin Dougherty: And that is Fallout. ah Fallout Season 2 premieres December of this year. And it's renewed for Season 3 3 already.

KEck: o

KEck: Well, I mean, it does have the love of my life, the person I want to fuck more than anything in the world, Walton Goggins.

Kevin Dougherty: And...

Kevin Dougherty: but that she

Kevin Dougherty: Happy Pride Month.

KEck: yeah Happy Pride Month. while While there still is a Pride Month.

Kevin Dougherty: um I just don't know about that face.

KEck: you would ah You would know better if you had seen Season 3 of White Lotus.

Kevin Dougherty: Oh, yeah.

KEck: I think that would make a little bit more sense.

Kevin Dougherty: If you're talking about Walton Goggins from that, yeah.

KEck: No, no.

Kevin Dougherty: I ah just Or you just mean in general?

KEck: I'm talking about Walton Goggins as a human being.

Kevin Dougherty: Oh, yeah, of course, yeah.

KEck: Yes.

Kevin Dougherty: I thought you meant like Walton Goggins in Fallout.

KEck: Oh, no no no, no, no.

Kevin Dougherty: But you are super... Oh... and

KEck: No, no, no, no, no. I don't. ah not with that you would That would be Walton Gorgens.

Kevin Dougherty: it

Kevin Dougherty: go

KEck: That's what they call Walton Gorgens.

Kevin Dougherty: oh

Kevin Dougherty: Gooligans, yes.

KEck: But at any rate, so, well, that's, I mean, got to say that doesn't come as like a huge surprise to me.

Kevin Dougherty: It's also coming to Universal's Halloween Horror Nights this year as a its own maze.

KEck: It's cool.

Kevin Dougherty: So yeah, that was the other part of that news. All right. Finally, what you've been waiting for, nobody else has.

KEck: ah Hey, man, I've not only been waiting for, but um I've waiting for ah like a couple weeks, and I've been... um trying to actively avoid ah picking up any of the news for Crystal Lake and, chris and you know, Friday 13th and Jason and all that, like, that's like one of my favorites. Well, definitely my favorite from the slasher genre.

KEck: but like really like my favorite horror of all time. And so it's been brutal. Like trying, oh like I've turned off all my news alerts to like screen rant and like other things like that.

Kevin Dougherty: well

KEck: So tell me what's going on.

Kevin Dougherty: and it's It's definitely happening. Because they've not only sent out a casting call.

KEck: That's all you had the to tell me.

Kevin Dougherty: No, no, no.

KEck: It's definitely.

Kevin Dougherty: let me Let me build this up. ah

Kevin Dougherty: They had a casting call ah last month in New Jersey, actually, looking for teenagers and camp camp counselors.

KEck: Oh, was it in Camp Bernie?

Kevin Dougherty: I don't know where it was. They they just said it in in the casting call was just in New Jersey. I don't know where what campground they're filming at.

KEck: Oh, I just assumed that, like, they went to a campground and start offering real camp counselors parts.

Kevin Dougherty: but

Kevin Dougherty: No, they were looking for actors. Or they were doing a casting call anyway. Whether you had acted before or not doesn't matter. But they were doing a casting call for those parts. We were already too out the age range. We wouldn't have gotten cast.

Kevin Dougherty: I mean, I might be able to play a 30-year-old, but that they were looking for, like, you know, teenagers and then 20 to 30-year-old.

KEck: I could play like a camp director

Kevin Dougherty: Yeah, maybe. Yeah. or Or...

KEck: or a deputy.

Kevin Dougherty: Yeah, was gonna say, or a cop and get killed.

KEck: Like I could be like, you know, yeah, a fat cop, a fat cop eating donuts.

Kevin Dougherty: But they weren't putting out casting calls for that.

KEck: Everybody likes that.

Kevin Dougherty: yeah They weren't putting out a casting call for that. But then also, they had a um Brad Kane, I believe, is Grab Caleb Kane, the showrunner.

Kevin Dougherty: He also posted to Instagram list recently a picture of them building the sets. So they've already started production on this. And then there was also even more recently that I just checked today from like last week.

Kevin Dougherty: um They also have another ah casting announcement. um Not only is, you know, previously announced Linda Cardellini playing Pamela Voorhees, but they've just cast William Catlett as Levon Brooks, though whoever that is is still a mystery.

Kevin Dougherty: But um some of the titles you might know him from, ah would be he was in Abigail ah Constellation and he was in Lovecraft Country.

KEck: Abigail in Constellation.

Kevin Dougherty: Yeah, you watched Constellation. That was the one on... ah

KEck: I was just talking about how Stephen King said it was ridiculous that it got canceled.

Kevin Dougherty: Yeah, with Naomi Rapport. Yeah.

KEck: Stephen King said it was like one of his favorite horror sci-fi shows, I think he said in the last 30 years.

Kevin Dougherty: Yeah.

Kevin Dougherty: yeah ah I think he plays... ah yeah I'm not sure. says Paul Lancaster.

KEck: I'm sure I'd know him if I saw him.

Kevin Dougherty: I don't remember who Paul Lancaster was. Yeah, if you saw him, you would be like, okay, yeah. But yeah, that Abigail and he was in Lovecraft Country.

KEck: Wait, what else was he

Kevin Dougherty: Lovecraft Country?

KEck: He was in Constellation and Love Calf Country.

Kevin Dougherty: Lovecraft Country, Constellation, and Abigail, which was that.

KEck: And Abigail. And which one was Abigail?

Kevin Dougherty: Yeah.

KEck: Abigail.

Kevin Dougherty: the of The vampire ballerina chick from last year with Dan Stevens. And it was by the guys who did um Ready or Not.

Kevin Dougherty: don't know if you want.

KEck: ah

Kevin Dougherty: Did you watch it?

KEck: I don't remember.

Kevin Dougherty: No.

KEck: Anyway.

Kevin Dougherty: It's worth checking out.

Kevin Dougherty: Yeah, especially if you like Ready or Not, which Ready or Not 2 just wrapped production recently as well. That's another...

KEck: I know who you're talking about. I just watched it recently. Ready or not. Yeah.

Kevin Dougherty: Yeah.

KEck: um It was great.

Kevin Dougherty: Yeah, well, yeah, check out Abigail by the same people. And yeah, Ray or not too is coming out this fall too.

KEck: Um, what's your fault?

Kevin Dougherty: um But yeah, that's that's all the news I got. So...

KEck: I just want to say that I still do not believe Friday the 13th is coming out.

Kevin Dougherty: wow

Kevin Dougherty: Even though there's now at least yeah two cast members and they're building sets. So they start production. Oh, you don't believe it's coming out this year or ever?

KEck: Ever.

KEck: Ever.

Kevin Dougherty: Ever. Okay.

KEck: Ever.

Kevin Dougherty: Well, I mean...

KEck: Ever. I just don't... I just don't believe that... um There's any chances coming out. I've been let down one too many times. I've talked about this several times.

KEck: I haven't seen any footage of anything. You said you saw them building sets. For all I know that they were on acid and Just in the woods building fucking forts.

KEck: So...

Kevin Dougherty: and Yeah.

KEck: You know, it's just whatever. But at any rate, um we are, now that ah there's been some ah time departed, the next cast we're going to be talking about ah the second season of Severance.

KEck: ah The dust has had a chance to settle, like pretty much everybody and their mother had been talking about, like a season two, right when it wrapped up. So after like a little bit of time of reflection, ah me and Kev want to give it a good hard look because um well as we already have done the first season, i think we have both agreed that Severance is just one of those special shows that you seem to only ah see like once every five years or something like that. You know what I mean? that They don't come around all the time.

KEck: And so our next cast, we're going to be taking um a little bit of a deeper dive into this classic show. So, Kev, do you have any ah parting words of wisdom?

Kevin Dougherty: uh yeah was wondering what you had been watching in the meantime uh

KEck: ah In the meantime, to be honest with you, um not to be grim, I've been having like kind of like a bit of health problems.

KEck: And it's been like not only like affecting like, ah well, my ability to like watch like as much as I used to, but like also kind of like ah remember like what I'm watching.

KEck: And, like like, I've been, like, writing, like, I've been writing, like, down lists.

Kevin Dougherty: yeah well You told me you had... um

KEck: And then I've been forgetting, like, which computer, like, I've been putting down the list down on in the text editor app or whatever. So um I did...

Kevin Dougherty: But you said you'd watched the Final Destination movies again recently.

KEck: I had ah rewatched the final destination movies like over the last few years. um I had recently watched midnight mass because I had never seen that Mike Flanagan piece.

KEck: Like it was like totally lost to me. So I got like a total freshie on it. um I had finished watching. i don't know if there's any more, but I believe it ended.

Kevin Dougherty: well Well, let's go. Hold on.

KEck: I watched the last season of the center.

Kevin Dougherty: Let's go back.

KEck: And, ah yeah.

Kevin Dougherty: Can we go back for a second? Which Final Destination movies did you watch recently?

Kevin Dougherty: Did you watch all them?

KEck: In the last, I watched the first one, the second one, the third one, the fourth one, and I believe the fifth one.

Kevin Dougherty: Oh,

Kevin Dougherty: okay.

KEck: Um, which one was the roller coaster one?

Kevin Dougherty: So you watched them all?

KEck: Was that the third one?

Kevin Dougherty: Three. Third one, yeah. That might be my favorite.

KEck: I watched the one after that. And I think I might have stopped there. So I think I watched the first four.

Kevin Dougherty: Okay, well i watched five, one, two, three, four. Because if you had seen five before, and this is a spoiler if you haven't, it does take point it does take place before

KEck: I don't care.

Kevin Dougherty: the first one So the end of that movie leads right into...

KEck: Oh, that's kind of cool.

Kevin Dougherty: yeah So and it was a big shock to everybody in the theaters. I was like, oh, that's pretty fucking dope. So I liked that one. I think four is probably the weakest. Three might be my favorite. I don't know. ah I just remember it having some pretty good kills.

KEck: Wait, which one was the weakest?

Kevin Dougherty: Four, I think, it was the weakest.

KEck: Which one was four?

Kevin Dougherty: um i'm trying to let's see four was the it was just called the final destination um that's the one was that the stadium

Kevin Dougherty: yeah like it was like um oh yeah was the one with the

KEck: what Oh, that that's the one with that, like, white, there was that white power guy, and yeah, yeah. It was a NASCAR. It was an NASCAR.

Kevin Dougherty: Yeah, the NASCAR. Yeah, the NASCAR stadium like collapses or whatever.

KEck: Yep. Yeah, see, I did watch this.

Kevin Dougherty: Yeah.

KEck: Yeah, yep.

Kevin Dougherty: Yeah, yeah. ah Yeah, three was the...

KEck: I think after that, I was kind of like, uh, no.

Kevin Dougherty: Yeah, yeah. that's I think that's what everybody thought, too. And then I think five did a good job of resetting it.

KEck: But for anybody that's interested, check out like Tubi or like Vudu. They have all the final destinations. I think like one, at least the first four.

KEck: And it's all free with limited ads. Like you can easily on some of these so ah services, you can watch a full like 90 to an hour 45 minute movie.

KEck: And they only expect you to watch six minutes. Divide it up, two-minute segments, six minutes of total advertising for about an hour and a half to an hour and 45-minute movie. That's very, very reasonable for a free film, I think.

KEck: You know what I mean?

Kevin Dougherty: Yeah.

KEck: That that limited to advertising. So, you know, give that stuff um give that stuff a chance.

Kevin Dougherty: Yeah. I mean, it's basically free TV. Like, I mean, I don't like watching it on there if I don't have to, because I don't like commercials, but.

KEck: yeah well i mean

KEck: and For example, I wasn't able to like deal with like the ah commercials with the Hulu ah version of Predator, which we're going to talk about in the future.

KEck: like I couldn't handle that, but like the Tubi stuff, like the free things, like I thought that was like i thought that was like very ah very, very, very bearable But at any rate, they go on the sidebar at the last, like, ah ah you know, couple seconds.

Kevin Dougherty: Yeah. i

Kevin Dougherty: No, that's cool.

KEck: But at any rate.

Kevin Dougherty: I also saw the new Final Destination Bloodlines. I thought it was pretty good. I actually enjoyed it. I mean, they it starts out like in the 20s, I think.

Kevin Dougherty: Or maybe 40s. I don't remember. but Because I missed like the very first like five minutes of it.

KEck: that

KEck: Wait, did this is the new Hellraiser?

Kevin Dougherty: But I was like i walked in and the guy No, new Final Destination.

KEck: Oh, I'm sorry. I thought you said the new Hellraiser.

Kevin Dougherty: It's just...

KEck: The new Hellraiser Bloodline.

Kevin Dougherty: No, it's just...

KEck: though i was like, wait, what?

Kevin Dougherty: Yeah, it's also called Bloodlines, for this Final Destination.

KEck: oh that's why I was like, oh.

Kevin Dougherty: Yeah.

KEck: Because I was like, wait.

Kevin Dougherty: Yeah.

KEck: The new Hellraiser Bloodline? Because the first Hellraiser Bloodline, they were Hellraiser in space.

Kevin Dougherty: Yeah, this is not not in space. It it starts back and because it cause i I walked in and they ah they attend there was like one of the theater attendants standing there. He was watching the beginning of the movie.

Kevin Dougherty: And I was like, oh, shit, did anybody die yet? And he was like, no, you're good. I was like, OK, cool. I sat down because I was running late that day. So, ah yeah, it was like this like tower restaurant thing, kind of like the Seattle ah Spire.

Kevin Dougherty: It's kind of similar to that and that like, you know, that's how the disaster starts. But ah the it like the woman who has the premonition, she ends up saving everybody. So then like years later, it's like death is hunting down all the people that survived that night plus all their like, you know, kids and shit that they weren't supposed to exist.

Kevin Dougherty: So I thought that was pretty a cool way and to go about it. And it kind of ties back into like the other ones too.

KEck: I want death to use a tornado at one point to go after somebody. I mean, that would be a very high-budget one, but...

Kevin Dougherty: And it was

Kevin Dougherty: it was Tony Todd's ah last performance as well.

KEck: Really.

Kevin Dougherty: Yeah, wait, tony was it Tony Todd? Yes, Tony Todd, and fucking Yeah, it was his last. I mean, I don't know if he was in ah if he's going to be in anything else, but it's his last he at least got to be in one more Final Destination movie.

Kevin Dougherty: I don't know if that he has something else that he appears in but like he had like...

KEck: Wait, Tony Todd got ripped by a tornado?

Kevin Dougherty: No. You said wanted death to do that.

KEck: By a tornado.

Kevin Dougherty: you're And I just happened to mention that this was Tony Ta's last appearance before he died.

KEck: Oh, gotcha.

Kevin Dougherty: You were the one that combined the tornado with his death.

KEck: Yeah.

Kevin Dougherty: Yeah.

KEck: Well, I mentioned tornado, and you're like, oh Tony Todd. No, it's just like, oh, Tony Todd got ripped by a tornado.

Kevin Dougherty: in

KEck: Like...

Kevin Dougherty: Yeah, I was trying to ignore your tornado.

KEck: Oh.

Kevin Dougherty: But yeah, like I can see like a...

KEck: What

Kevin Dougherty: ah But a tornado is not really ah an accident. You know I mean?

KEck: do you mean it's not an accident? It's an ultimate accident.

Kevin Dougherty: Tornadoes?

KEck: It's an act of God.

Kevin Dougherty: and sort of It's an act of nature and it's not like, you know...

KEck: It's an act of God. It's an act, yeah, an act of nature.

Kevin Dougherty: Yeah, it's different though. I don't think it fits into the Final Destination format though.

KEck: You're telling me that somebody getting struck by lightning would not be in the Final Destination format.

Kevin Dougherty: No, it wasn't. Go back and watch all the movies.

KEck: Okay.

Kevin Dougherty: It's all some like...

KEck: I did just recently.

Kevin Dougherty: it's Yeah.

KEck: I'm just saying...

Kevin Dougherty: And if you will look at all the way people died in it, none of those were natural disasters.

KEck: I think there actually was a strike of lightning that split a tree, and that split tree hit a power line, and then that power line...

Kevin Dougherty: They're all freak accidents.

Kevin Dougherty: I'm pretty sure that was a power line.

KEck: Yeah, whatever.

Kevin Dougherty: Yeah, but then it strikes somebody directly.

KEck: At any rate. Okay.

Kevin Dougherty: You know what mean? Yeah.

KEck: ah you You're way more passionate about these movies than I could even hope to be, Doc.

Kevin Dougherty: and

Kevin Dougherty: I think they're fun movies.

KEck: on

Kevin Dougherty: I mean, like...

KEck: I really did not know what I was up against. So, okay.

Kevin Dougherty: I mean, you just like like... I think the setup is one is a really interesting thing, because it's always like, okay, how are they what how is it going to go about?

KEck: Okay. Okay.

Kevin Dougherty: How is it going to die? And then it's like, And then it's just fun to watch people you know get ripped in these fucking funny fucking ways. like

KEck: I apologize.

Kevin Dougherty: Yeah. I don't know

KEck: I'll take Final Destination more seriously from now

Kevin Dougherty: don't know. You shouldn't take it seriously.

KEck: I'll try to work at Paradox more adequately.

Kevin Dougherty: with But I do have one other thing. This was only made for $50 million dollars and it made million worldwide.

KEck: That's dope. It's got a return. Yeah, return on its investment.

Kevin Dougherty: and

KEck: I'm sure there'll be many more to come. No me.

Kevin Dougherty: yeah

KEck: Final Fantasy like, or Final Fantasy, Final Destination like, you know, like XXX or something like that.

Kevin Dougherty: dust good

KEck: Like, I don't know.

Kevin Dougherty: yeah

KEck: How many X's does it go until it gets to its next symbol? Like, it's not like XX. Like, how many... ah I guess...

Kevin Dougherty: You could just keep going with Nexus.

KEck: so um I don't know how many Roman numerals.

Kevin Dougherty: Right? Yeah.

KEck: I don't know. Usually, like, my Roman numerals only go up to, like... It's between usually 5 and 15, you know, normally I don't go like that high, so I'm not sure, uh, what comes after X, but, you know, it's something.

Kevin Dougherty: Yeah.

KEck: Anyway, um...

Kevin Dougherty: yeah But you say see you saw Sinners as well in the movie or TV series?

KEck: Oh, no, it was, um... It was, uh, just, uh, season three of the show The Sinner with, uh, Bill Pullman. Um...

KEck: It was... ah I think it was season 3. It might have been season 4. Because there was one season that was a total flop. And then um this was either season 3 or 4.

KEck: And this one kind of made a comeback. I thought that it was much better than the one before that. um The first one was by far my favorite. I thought it had the best... like mystery, um, you know, like, uh, mystery. And then, I mean, season two kind of gets into like the surreal, like just good mystery horror.

KEck: And, uh, what else? Oh, I had never watched the, uh, show on HBO called the leftovers.

Kevin Dougherty: Thank

KEck: ah sort of like a throwback, like retro thing. And somebody had said like, yo, the leftovers is like no joking around. People call it science fiction.

KEck: Like it's not, it's more just straight horror. And I, you know, while it certainly has, excuse me, sci-fi elements it um also ah i mean in my opinion is just more genuine horror like to i don't see like i mean i do see like the small sci-fi like uh elements here and there but like i think it's more general just straight like

Kevin Dougherty: right

KEck: really like profound mystery horror because like you're just like what the fuck I mean it's a very original idea i don't know if it's based on a book or anything or if you've heard of it but um it was very interesting

Kevin Dougherty: no Yeah, I've never seen that. I did but watch on your recommendation.

KEck: I believe it's HBO I believe

Kevin Dougherty: Yeah, I did watch on your recommendation the HBO series The Head, which we'll have to talk about.

KEck: Oh, yeah. I forgot about that one.

Kevin Dougherty: Yeah, that has three seasons.

KEck: All three seasons.

Kevin Dougherty: Yeah, yeah, i finished the third season. I've actually recommended it to somebody else on my route, and she was like, yeah, I'm already like three episodes in.

KEck: yeah

Kevin Dougherty: and So, yeah.

KEck: Oh, God, i didn't. i totally forgot I even mentioned that. um Well, hey, ah you should you should have brought that you should brought that up first.

KEck: I was about to say we should wrap up, but I am very interested in spending another 10 minutes talking about the head.

Kevin Dougherty: Yeah.

KEck: i told you i i told you one thing. i said it was very entertaining, but you needed to just kind of let your imagination go.

Kevin Dougherty: yeah

KEck: And, you know, or at least like, you know, like your relative imagination in that, like what is possible and likely to happen in a given scenario and that, you know, you kind of had to abandon rationality.

KEck: How do you feel about that?

Kevin Dougherty: ah Yeah, I don't want to spoil anything necessarily on this because, again, this is a like, nobody's, like, I heard it from you and you didn't hear anything about it.

KEck: we're it we're a spoiler We're a spoiler podcast.

Kevin Dougherty: Like...

Kevin Dougherty: right Maybe if we do a full cast on it, then we can, but...

KEck: That's something we're going to start working on, actually. like

KEck: Okay, well, that's the case. If you think it merits, I mean, it was three seasons, then now I believe every season is only a six-episode season.

Kevin Dougherty: Yeah, yeah. So maybe but maybe in like a couple weeks after we do so our severance and our predator killer of killers, we can do the head and give enough people time to watch it.

KEck: But...

KEck: Yes. and But they are, I should say, they are all full hour episodes. And I think a couple of the conclusions are actually like an hour to an hour and a half episodes.

Kevin Dougherty: Yeah, I think I remember.

KEck: So um it's not like it's just like, you know, like six, like 45 minute episodes while five minutes of those 45 minutes are credits or something like that.

KEck: Like they're lengthy episodes that cover a wide range of ridiculous things.

Kevin Dougherty: Yeah, yeah.

KEck: um But yeah, I mean, i so you want to do this as a separate cast and yeah, I actually think we should.

Kevin Dougherty: Yeah, I recommend it. I like people who watch it. Yeah.

KEck: Yeah, especially because this one didn't get the coverage that I think it rightly deserved as being a foreign film. and um And while I call it a foreign film, it did make me feel like very much at home.

Kevin Dougherty: Yeah.

KEck: Like I was able to relate to everybody regardless of like ah where they were from or like what their like cultural heritage was and Yeah, so yeah yeah, I'm glad.

KEck: I didn't know if it was something that you were going to want to talk about in detail, or if you were just going to want to say, like, hey, you know, I saw this one show called The Head, you know, it wasn't, you know, blah, blah, blah, blah.

Kevin Dougherty: Yeah. Yeah. I would hate to call it like a foreign film thinking people would have to read subtitles. Cause I mean, there are some in there, but it is an international cast.

KEck: Yeah, and I would say the predominant language is English.

Kevin Dougherty: Uh, yeah.

Kevin Dougherty: It is English, yes. And yeah, even the last season I was trying to put subtitles on because there was like somebody who's working on their car outside and I was trying to put subtitles on and there was just no subtitles so you could add on through Max.

KEck: Like, by far.

Kevin Dougherty: i was like, okay, that's weird. But I didn't have any problem because everybody spoke English. It was just needed that because people were being loud. I was like, oh, I only have this option through Max with our subtitles on.

KEck: Yeah. Yeah.

Kevin Dougherty: That's weird.

KEck: You know, ah well, there's a couple...

Kevin Dougherty: So.

KEck: with With subtitles, you'll sometimes have three different kinds. They'll say subtitles, and they'll have, like, subtitles for hearing impaired.

Kevin Dougherty: Oh, yeah, I guess if I'd done it through my TV, I was trying to do it through the app on Macs.

KEck: You know what mean? So...

KEck: And well they have...

Kevin Dougherty: like could have put closed captioning on.

KEck: Well, they have ones, they have three sets.

Kevin Dougherty: Yeah.

KEck: They have English for the hearing impaired. Then they have just English. You know what I mean?

Kevin Dougherty: Yeah. Yeah, this one had nothing.

KEck: And then they have a third one and that's called English forced.

Kevin Dougherty: Yeah.

KEck: Which means subtitles will only appear when they don't speak English. You know what I mean?

Kevin Dougherty: Oh, yeah, yeah.

KEck: So you have three different sets. One's for people that can't hear the lawnmower. The other one is for somebody that wants subtitles on without, like, you know, needing to

Kevin Dougherty: The script of... Yeah.

KEck: hear, ah you know, lawnmower growling, and then another one for, like, where it's just not spoken.

Kevin Dougherty: Yeah. yeah

KEck: So that's how, like, most Blu-rays have it set up these days.

Kevin Dougherty: Yeah.

Kevin Dougherty: Oh, yeah, yeah. I'm talking about Max, so it's not fucking doing shit, which is changing its name back to HBO Max.

KEck: Yeah.

Kevin Dougherty: Fucking...

KEck: Wait, I thought they were just switched back to Macs.

Kevin Dougherty: Spent all that fucking money.

Kevin Dougherty: Yeah, no, no, they're switching back to HBO Max.

KEck: Oh, I thought they went from HBO to, um, whatchamacallit, to Mac, to HBO Max.

Kevin Dougherty: It was like HBO Go. hbo There was HBO Go, there was HBO Max, and then it went just to Max for like the past like what maybe year, if that.

KEck: Mm-hmm.

Kevin Dougherty: And now they're changing it back to HBO Max.

KEck: Oh, see, I thought they went from Mac to HBO Max, and now they were switching back to just Macs.

Kevin Dougherty: No, Max was a separate cine Cinemax.

KEck: Could...

Kevin Dougherty: ah

KEck: Yeah, I thought...

Kevin Dougherty: That was a separate thing until they bought

KEck: I i realized that is Cinemax was called Cinemax, but I thought HBO went to just Max, where HBO was just called Max.

Kevin Dougherty: Yeah.

Kevin Dougherty: Oh, yeah. they

Kevin Dougherty: and

KEck: Because, like, when I looked on the Google...

Kevin Dougherty: It was originally HBO, then Max, then now it's going back to HBO Max.

KEck: Oh. On the Google Play Store, it just said Max when I was, like, in apps.

Kevin Dougherty: Yeah. Yeah, yeah, that's Yeah, I'm saying they're changing it in the future. They're changing it back to HBO Max. Right now, it's just Max.

KEck: Okay. Okay.

Kevin Dougherty: Yeah.

KEck: Oh, right now it's just Mac.

Kevin Dougherty: But they thought they announced they they announced it recently that they're changing it back.

KEck: Okay.

Kevin Dougherty: But anyway.

KEck: This just goes to show how confusing it is. You know what I mean?

Kevin Dougherty: Yeah.

KEck: So, at any rate.

Kevin Dougherty: Yeah. And how dumb it was to fucking drop the HBO part.

KEck: And how, but like, it's so confusing that we just went on like a five minute sidebar, but like, you know i mean?

Kevin Dougherty: think

KEck: But like, that's how confusing it is.

Kevin Dougherty: Oh, yeah.

KEck: And how like, you know, I saw a thing like John Oliver said that like the AT&T people who are, you know the parent company of HBO, at least for now, I believe they are in trying to sell it.

KEck: they say uh john oliver said that like they were looking forward to like his take on how stupid they were for doing this because they even themselves realized that they're ridiculous so at any rate i got nothing else for this discussion this evening kevin what else do you have on your mind

Kevin Dougherty: ah something did already

Kevin Dougherty: yeah oh yeah

Kevin Dougherty: I mean, I've seen a couple of good movies recently. ah Sinners, the new Michael B. Jordan film. ah That's like the second action ah vampire piece.

Kevin Dougherty: I also saw um the new Predator, Killer of Killers, which we will definitely be talking about soon. And I also saw that Until Dawn based on the video game.

Kevin Dougherty: And I saw the new movie from the people who did Talk to Me ah bring called Bring Her Back. it's in it's It's grim.

Kevin Dougherty: that's that' it's It's part of that grim fucking horror the way fucking like hereditary Midsommar were. You know what mean? Where it's about like grief and like shit like that.

Kevin Dougherty: I don't want to like even tell you anything about it. You should just watch it. But yeah, just just know it's fucking grim.

KEck: So you, when, what you mean it's about, grief you mean it's like Haunting of Hill House about stages of grief and it's all about human emotion and blah, blah, blah.

Kevin Dougherty: yeah

Kevin Dougherty: In a way, but I would say more like, you know, how like hereditary where it was like the loss of like a family member.

KEck: Oh, okay.

Kevin Dougherty: and like, and yeah, and about like, you know, trying to like, you know,

KEck: So it's about grief within the family. Got it.

Kevin Dougherty: keep in touch or you know, bring bring her back. You know what I mean? Like, you know, there's some some supernatural elements going on to it.

KEck: Pet cemetery.

KEck: Pet cemetery. Yeah, I get it.

Kevin Dougherty: Yeah.

KEck: Bring her back.

Kevin Dougherty: Yeah.

KEck: Yeah. I'm brief. Bring her back.

Kevin Dougherty: yeah

KEck: Yeah. I, I, I understand.

Kevin Dougherty: I would say less. It's not it's not it's more supernatural than it is like a reanimator style zombie flick. You know what mean? But ah yeah, it's it was good.

KEck: That sounds like pet cemetery to a T.

Kevin Dougherty: of but so very Yeah, but Pest Cemetery was was ah and very it's more supernatural.

KEck: Wait, that sounds like the exact premise of that cemetery. More supernatural and, you know.

Kevin Dougherty: It's very different than Pest Cemetery.

KEck: Okay. Okay.

Kevin Dougherty: Yeah. um But yeah, that was also really good and worth checking out. Uh, yeah. And that's about all I've got for today's episode. And, uh, I guess we'll be back soon with severance and you need to go watch fucking predator. Cause that shit was dope.

Kevin Dougherty: Uh, it's on Hulu. If you don't have it, get it done.

KEck: Yeah, we'll see. I have my doubts, but we'll see.

Kevin Dougherty: um I'm about to go watch it again before I go to bed.

KEck: All right.

Kevin Dougherty: Yeah.

KEck: Well, yeah, i mean that would probably be for the best so that it will be fresh. But um yeah, not just um not just Severance.

KEck: ah We, of course, have Predator. And um I did create a list of certain...

Kevin Dougherty: ahead.

KEck: um ah shows, and also a few films that I feel that we really missed, um, having, uh, discussions on in the past, like, don't know, 12 to 24 to, uh, maybe even 36 months, like certain, uh, titles where i was like, you know what, I mean, these are, these are not like, you know,

KEck: the hottest things on streaming right now but like this is stuff we really should covered i jived them down somewhere and um i just uh i've been getting overwhelmed with uh all the uh different drives i have and all the different movies and television shows and programs

Kevin Dougherty: yeah

Kevin Dougherty: oh yeah it's real overwhelming yeah we're guaranteed to miss shit so i have no problem going back yeah

KEck: Yeah. Yeah. And it's to the point where like I, at this point need to go back and it would probably take me weeks to months to organize everything.

KEck: If I were to like work at it, like, you know, say three to four hours a day, I think that's, you know, we're talking about tens of thousands of films.

KEck: Yeah.

Kevin Dougherty: Yeah.

KEck: So, and anyway, but I, I do intend to do it.

Kevin Dougherty: not

KEck: So, especially now that solid state drives have been so perfect that we have MVME drives that are, you know, so at any rate, it'll get done. Thank you guys for joining us. Sorry. It's been so long and sorry. was kind of a dud tonight.

KEck: We're just trying to get back into it. Kevin's been busy. i have had health problems and, but you know, we're going to come back with a bang. ah Good night, and I hope everybody has a ah great summer and a great 4th of July holiday.

Kevin Dougherty: ah Hopefully we'll do another episode before 4th of July, but we'll see.

KEck: Oh, yeah. I mean, hoping. But, you know what mean?

Kevin Dougherty: Yeah.

KEck: The way I see it, every single day could be our last. So, you know, hey, happy Fourth of July. Happy Halloween.

Kevin Dougherty: By the time I put this up, and it could be after 4th of July.

KEck: Thanksgiving, Christmas, Kwanzaa, New Year's. You know, hopefully there will be a 2026. Anyway,

Kevin Dougherty: Cool.

KEck: peace

Kevin Dougherty: Hopefully we'll get some Friday the 13th news on Friday the 13th.

KEck: Yeah, that would be that would be sick. Hey, at least there's something to ah give us a false sense of hope.

Kevin Dougherty: Yes.

KEck: Good night, brother.

Kevin Dougherty: right. Good night.
