It's those American rugby nerds, back for you to roll your eyes at and have laugh with. On this week's episode we dive into the seriousness of some non-rugby stuff happening here in the U.S. and a tale about one night in Watertown MA. We talk player movement and a particular one filling some big shoes at The Stoop. Also, the RFU made their decision, and it's not for us, we discuss. We of course, have a look back at this past weekend's action in the 6 Nations and also some players to keep in mind for the final weekend in your fantasy teams. We run through both surprising results in Aotearoa and yes, we wrap all the action from the Prem too. A little recap from Champi-Yanks League (2nd tier opening up next season) is also on the cards as well as that Start or Sit thing we do. Have a cold one, grab a comfy seat and enjoy!

Introduction and Rugby Season Overview

00:00:08
Speaker
Hey, everybody. Welcome back. It is a fancy rugby and kind of chair deck. I'm Ben Glover. Here we go. Let's let's keep on turning where we're getting closer to the end of the season. But we still got a long way to go for super rugby, at least. So because we still got the trans tasmid competition as well. So we do. And then it's going to get crazy as we continue through the championship. I think the guys in the chat were noticing that, oh, wait, we're going to lose player. It's just going to be like champions. We're going to lose players. Yeah, you know, you lose players.
00:00:36
Speaker
next couple of weeks, but then the trans Tasman, there's no buys. So that's the upside of that. That's true. That's the good thing of that. Okay. All right. Let's drink. Yeah. Well, yeah. Good stuff to drink to this week too. Yeah. I still got my turtle swamp. I'm still on my Santilly. Yeah. Oh yeah. Still going with your, with your good stuff from up there. Ever.

Boston Anecdotes and Marathon Recollections

00:01:00
Speaker
All of up there is Everett Lake, which is 40 minutes or 20, 30 minutes north of Boston. It's not far.
00:01:07
Speaker
I'm not talking Canada, but it's still a great distance. It is. I know. You've never been to Boston. I'm sure most, I'm sure most people that drive in major cities understand this, you know, what it feels like distance wise, time wise is completely irrelevant. Like it is fucking way off. I was just always way off. So kind of begging all the people have ever, but that's, Oh, well that's a different story for a different day. Yeah, that's different. Yeah. I mean, when I was.
00:01:34
Speaker
When Catherine, I first started dating, it was a long distance relationship in the city of Boston. No shit. Like it would take me, it took me an hour to get to her by car. It took her a little bit more than an hour to get to me by public transport. Like, so yeah, I lived out of my car for a little while. Yeah. Bring all my work clothes and all that shit. And Hey, it was this, there was this week.
00:01:57
Speaker
how many years ago at this point, eight years ago, that I like, I basically walked that path with her from out of Boston almost to almost. Oh, I know. Oh, I was just thinking about that the other day. I was like, Oh, yeah, it was sad. That was, yeah.
00:02:13
Speaker
And then the whole city locked down. I've never watched, apart from an election, I've never watched so much fucking news coverage in my life with that day that I locked the city down. Right. That was pretty ridiculous. Don't fuck with us, man. We will lock the whole city down and hunt your ass down. Especially because the, I don't know if we've told the story about it on the pod, but we were talking about the marathon bombing.
00:02:37
Speaker
um yeah and then the ensuing chaos that followed that friday thursday to friday night it was yeah thursday into friday morning it was like a block from the shootout was like blocks from the bar our practice bar so like i i was i left
00:02:53
Speaker
like an hour or so before shit started going down. Um, so, and then I woke up the next morning to videos from, from, from Craigie and be like, wait, what the fuck is going on? Yeah, they were, they were really close. And yeah, I'm pretty sure either somebody, somebody from the bar, maybe just a local tune. He was like, this is it boys. Let's go get them. And they got housed as well. He got strip searched by police on the scene. Yeah. It's like, Nope, Nope, Nope.
00:03:23
Speaker
Nope, you are not going anywhere, boss. Sorry. That was a pretty wild thing.
00:03:33
Speaker
Now it's sad that it happened and you can only hope that every marathon from here out is a lot smoother than the last couple have been at least.

Police Accountability and Systemic Reform

00:03:43
Speaker
It's not gone. Weather hasn't cooperated. No, weather hasn't cooperated and obviously COVID and yeah, lots of that. So hopefully 2022 marathon is all good to go and we can go back to doing our normal shit.
00:03:59
Speaker
Um, anyway, good stuff. Other things, uh, by George coffee, I'm sure his advice this past weekend was invaluable, especially to you, those you that played the six nations, uh, fancy game with us. Cause he's always got some good insight on that.
00:04:14
Speaker
So make sure that you pay him back for that one. TRM upgrades. Restart weekend is coming as well this weekend. So another reason to keep donating to them and get your TRM upgrades at the same time. So always good for mental health. We got a little talk about this, unfortunately. Good and bad. Black Lives Matter. There is no room for racism in this world, let alone in sport.
00:04:38
Speaker
We had the good that it's not good, but it's just it's better. It's I don't even know if it's better, but it's. We had some accountability held this past weekend or this past week yesterday yesterday for a change. Very, very pleasant. Like that's the thing is that it's sad that it's like this is what we celebrate that that he was convicted, not that it doesn't happen anymore. How about we stop, you know,
00:05:06
Speaker
It's just stopping from happening to begin with. That'd be a hell of a start. That's really where we need to get to. We need to get to the point where there aren't any Derek Chovins on the police force at all because this is what happens when they're around. We need to get rid of this. It's great to see the accountability. This is hopefully the start of something.
00:05:31
Speaker
And hopefully it starts getting better, right? It can't get, it cannot get worse and, and have this whole situation be sustainable. So, um, it's got to start getting better. Right. And it's, you know, and then on the other side, we have.
00:05:49
Speaker
you know, Makiya Bryant, who's a six year old girl that's been shot by officers because she had a knife. And that's the that's the flip side of today, unfortunately. Yeah, that it's it's that this one's going to be a fucker because she was fighting with someone and had a knife. So it's going to be hard to
00:06:08
Speaker
And the cops. But here's the thing. And here's what's important. Whatever, you know, however this turns out, I will take away for the positive that the police are being entirely forthcoming right away. They're saying, here's who did it. Here's all of it. Here's all the video. They didn't they didn't waste, you know, like Chicago with all the fucking kid. Right. They told a story just like just like they did with Derek Chauvin. They told a story that was false.
00:06:34
Speaker
and and waited and and then they didn't release the body camera that showed that it wasn't right. You know, only, you know, but that's this past week. So, yeah, like they at least this the police department is doing it right. They're saying, here's all the evidence we we're just putting it out there. We don't have anything to hide. And that's
00:06:57
Speaker
What comes if it will come, will come of it. But the important thing is that at least police, in this instance, the police department's being, you know, accountable in forthright, which is a start. That's the sign of something good.
00:07:11
Speaker
Yeah, it's, there's so much, there's so much in the last couple weeks that these were digested. But that's the scary part is that this could get worse just because police will realize that, oh, this is my last chance to get a kill. You know, some of these guys who think they can get away with it or have been getting away with it like Derek Chauvin had for so long.
00:07:31
Speaker
So it was pretty clear that he had been a piece of shit for a long time. Yeah, he had his former boss coming come in against him. He had former colleagues and employees come in against him. So I think it's pretty clear that this guy was a shitbag for a long time. And fortunately, it took him killing somebody to finally bring him down. Yeah, that's just that's just sad. We got it. We got someone again. He had he had he has been
00:07:56
Speaker
previously involved in office officer involved deaths. So this was not the first time he had been a part of a death. It's like I think this was his fifth or sixth, actually. So, yeah, I think, you know, I think a lot of people are saying, yeah, we should have spoken up sooner. Yep. So let's get there. Let's get there. Let's get there sooner. Yeah. Sorry. We can only do it together. Can't do it. We saw it was the chief was at Boston to pull the police.
00:08:25
Speaker
Was it like union leader or someone like high up in the police department anyway was apparently
00:08:33
Speaker
had either child porn or molestation issues. Yeah. And the police knew about it and covered it like shit like that. Jesus can't do that. Right. That's what you don't need another fucking spotlight either. Right. Come on, man. Yeah. Fuck fucked up shit. So we need cops to start, you know, as much as Black Lives Matter. Yes, we want that. But it's part of that involves, you know, obviously the thin blue line disappearing. Yeah. That needs to go. Bye bye. Real quick here.
00:09:02
Speaker
Okay, more positive things. We are opening up a second tier of Champions League for next year, so you will start involving promotion and relegation, which is what we all love about these sports. No ring fencing in the Champions League. Yeah, none of that. None of that here. No European Super League bullshit either.
00:09:19
Speaker
Fuck that. So yeah, we'll be opening that up. So anyway, that's interested in playing the variations that we're playing, which are three FRD and three TRM game or two TRM games. Hopefully we get to a third. That'd be nice. But either way, so that's what we'll be doing. And we will happily draw your order as well next year as well. So because that's hard. That's part of the fun too, finding out what your pick is.
00:09:44
Speaker
Okay. Um, to the news cycle, uh, player movement, Nick David. Wow. That's a move. He's got, you know, they have, well, should say the Queens have big shoes to fill and they, they could have done a lot worse. I'd say they adequately filled them. Yeah. With the, with the signing, uh, Nick David Jordan, the Harlem Queens, presumably to be somewhat of a replacement for Mike Brown.
00:10:10
Speaker
Yeah, I think that's, that's pretty much exactly what he does. I don't know how presumably, like, yeah, just, just slot him right in there. It's a lot of pressure on Nick David, but I think he'll be fine. Honestly, he's got the talent. He just needs to believe in himself.
00:10:25
Speaker
It also helps to be playing with a team that, you know, you can believe in, you know, it's, it's hard when you, you can't really trust the fucking knuckleheads around you to play your best. Cause you got to worry about, you know, patching up their mistakes too. Yep. Yeah. He's going to play with care and Marcus Smith will be just fine. Okay. Yeah.
00:10:43
Speaker
That whole back. Yeah, that that that checks. Oh, man. And then. Yeah. Oh, God, I know. And Esther Hazen's obviously turned himself into quite a player, too. Green and Kaden Murley. Yeah, he'll be OK. He'll be fine. He won't have to lift all the weight, which is great. Oh, not at all. So good. Good. Good for him. And I think it's a good move to get him towards really putting his name out there with not that it's not already. But I think more people will make him a household name.
00:11:13
Speaker
Um, other, other layer, uh, joining the championship, Mark McCall and crew have resigned through quite,

Rugby Transfers and Player Strategies

00:11:20
Speaker
I think 2024, 25 for Saracens. So they're, they are not going anywhere. So whatever. No national team news on the horizon for McCall right now. So, right. I mean, I wouldn't besmirch him to go do that. If you, if he was to get a phone call.
00:11:36
Speaker
Well, I mean, we know he's not getting the call from from England. Nope. No, that's really that's really what I was saying. You know, he would he would obviously be a hot name if England actually did the right thing and fired Eddie. Yeah, I just don't like the argument. And this is the other piece we're going to talk to. I don't like the argument of, well, who else are we going to get? Are we going to get honestly your rugby shite? So whoever whoever you get will at least freshen it up. Honestly, like the right because you know what it really is.
00:12:06
Speaker
It's getting, you know, having a system bringing you like, at least, you know, a structure to give your guys something, you know, something to communicate around and getting the right people in place. And Eddie doesn't do either. I mean, he does the system. He overly constrains their system. He doesn't let them play within it. And he picks fucking shit heels. So, yeah, I think George Ford likes him. So.
00:12:31
Speaker
Yeah, like I think I think it really needs to be a come to moment where you're just like, are you really bringing Ben Young's and George Ford Farrell? I mean, Farrell, you kind of have to, unfortunately, because he's he's he is where he is. But you really bring in like Billy, are you really bringing Billy to the next World Cup?
00:12:51
Speaker
you know, there's a lot of, there's a lot of old heads in this team that need to go. And he needs to have the stones to say, you're gone. And he doesn't right now. Right. You know, so that's, that's, that's, and the, the excuses that they made, Oh, well, we hit like, dude, most of these people had the same, same constrictions and
00:13:13
Speaker
they still were very successful. Ireland had more strict circumstances than anybody else because Ireland is just a mess right now with COVID. So they've had it a lot worse in a lot of ways, yet they beat the pants off you.
00:13:30
Speaker
You know, with 20 section and they played, they played, you know, other teams played good rugby and England didn't. So anyway, all that aside, um, good thing for, for Saracens, Mark McCall will stick around. Yeah, I'm all right with that. And, and woe to you in the premiership next year. Yeah. Keep a, we'll see. Yeah. Big, big match this weekend for championship healing and series do, do battle on Sunday. See how that one turns out.
00:13:58
Speaker
Let's hippity hop over to the six nations. Ireland and France. This was a big one. And unfortunately, disappointed a little bit, which was sad. Yeah, it was. Ireland kind of bottled themselves up. I mean, did Parsons even touch the ball really? I can tell you how many carries she had in a second here. OK, because it doesn't seem like she got much of a chance to play ball in hand and that she's their best attacker. And if you're not.
00:14:26
Speaker
You know, with, with, um, Wales trying to get there, you know, um, their danger lady can't say danger, man. It doesn't work that way. Um, but they're, they're most dangerous runner. Um, just working to get her the ball and kind of bottling her up. Unfortunately, cause all the defense had to do was pay attention to her. Um, they just kind of, she had nine carries. Yeah. Um,
00:14:48
Speaker
Wow. That's okay. That's more than it. I mean, maybe they got her 64 meters. Yeah. Yeah. Um, I don't think they did, you know, they couldn't put her in space. That's exactly what it is. That tells you, you know, she got to run, you know, do some deep ball, maybe to the, um, line to gain, but that's about it. So yeah, just not enough, not enough work, like off of her wing. I think that's maybe, you know, obviously when you're, you're young, that's, that's the hard thing to learn. So yeah. And kind of stick to her side.
00:15:18
Speaker
Yeah. And we saw some, some great play from the likes of the French and you know, they, they played just as brilliantly as their men do. So it was, it was good. It was just fun. It was fun stuff to watch on that side. At least I would, I would say India, India even got involved and got herself over the line. Good for her. Right. Yeah. That was fun to watch. Yep. Um, she's just like,
00:15:44
Speaker
She's not bigger per se than, than the other ladies on the field, but she plays bigger. She plays like she's a brick house. Right. She is when she hits, you can see the impact much, much more clearly than some other players, but she hurts. She does like, and she'll like comes with anger. It's yeah. Yeah. So we did see a little bit of flash from Ireland here, but just wasn't quite enough. Nope.
00:16:13
Speaker
And then over to, um, over to Scotland and playing at the Scott stone, which was cool. And this was close at halftime and the Italians pulled away brilliantly at that. And there was some lovely, lovely moves from the Azurian in this one. And I, I thoroughly enjoyed some of the stuff that they were doing. So that is, that is just.
00:16:35
Speaker
awesome stuff to watch when a team's willing to do stuff like that. Um, the little around the corner, I think it was Giordano that ended up scoring. I was just like, Oh, that was, it was a good setup. Really. It wasn't necessarily that she did anything special. It was a great setup from her teammates. Um, I think it was Solari that ended up putting her away, but yeah, that was just, it was really good attacking stuff from the Azurian. Eventually Scotland just kind of folded. Unfortunately. Yeah. I mean, and Scotland weren't ambitious and attack really. It was, it was a lot of, they're, they're back in,
00:17:04
Speaker
They're not not so far as away. We're not talking like, you know, 90s rugby, you know, that I would criticize. It's more of like mid 2000s where it's like, yeah, you're they're getting the structure of you can see them getting a little bit of the structure, but there's no ambition in it. So it's like they're doing the one three three one. So you're hitting that you're seeing a pod hit pod hit and then up, you know, it's the standard, you know, forward crash, forward crash out the back.
00:17:32
Speaker
there wasn't much variation to it. Yeah. And, and Italy's like, okay, but we're going to play with the ball. So yeah. And they did. And was it filling the ended up with a hat trick? Yes. Yes. Yes. That was a, that was a, uh, all right. She actually, well, I saw, I looked at her stats. I'm like, all right. She made some meters and she actually scored some points, even though she got tonked by England. I was like, that's gotta be worth something. So I said, I took it on a whim and said, you know, play to you.
00:18:00
Speaker
Yeah, that worked all right. So as far as this weekend goes, we're going to have three matches again, which will be nice. Italy and Ireland kick it off England and France will do battle for the win for the title and then Scotland and Wales will wrap up the weekend. Do you go? Do you go five and five France in England and then just pick your favorites from the other teams?
00:18:26
Speaker
I'm not sure. I don't know that I would go five and five France, England, because that's going to be, oh, that could go any way, any direction, but it's likely to be close. So your bonus points, you're not going to get bonus points for the win, which really, you're not going to get high ones. That's for sure. Right. Not the same ones, which do help significantly, but I guess not, not, you know, depending on the player, um,
00:18:52
Speaker
But yeah, Scotland, Wales is probably not going to have much in the way of. Yeah. I mean, I'll watch it, but I'm just not really into players from it. I will say Hannah Nelson was a nice little grab. Is that who that was? Yeah. She was a nice little grab. Um, she plays center and she kicks for them. Yeah. So that was, I did not know that, but I picked her anyway.
00:19:16
Speaker
Yeah. She kicks for them and she plays center. So much like scare it, you know, you want to find kickers that aren't necessarily playing 10 either. So that was, um, it was a decent find in that, in that sense. So, uh, that worked out all right for me as well. Yeah. Not much. I mean, I had some boneheaded picks, but that was not, that'll happen. That'll happen. What did, what would she end up with? She ended up with some good points. Yeah. She ended up with 35.
00:19:44
Speaker
That's not bad because she was on the wrong end of the scoreboard. Right. Yeah. Yeah. 35.7. There it is. Yup. That's not bad. That kind of talking. I actually, and I also picked a skeleton and she had to try too from the hookers. There you go. Yeah. I had social from, from France. Okay.
00:20:00
Speaker
But yeah, you better believe it. I'll at least try and... I have 27 available in my budget without, you know, anything. So I've got room to grow. I have like 30. Yeah, there you go. Yeah. I have 30.3. I'm on limited budget pretty much. I can do whatever the fuck I want. As long as you're not screwing up and picking and re-picking. So wait for the laps to come out before you start picking your team.
00:20:26
Speaker
Um, yeah, I liked Bujard there for that, for that as well. Um, obviously that worked out quite well. Uh, I might keep, you know, I honestly might keep Parsons as well, cause this will be a much tighter match for Island this weekend, I believe. Well, I still have much more room. Yes.
00:20:47
Speaker
so much more space to operate and and that'll be huge not the the amazing defenders that France have so I think you'll see more like that you know a little bit closer to the whales although
00:21:02
Speaker
No, at least don't play well. So we won't know how that would have ever turned out. No, we won't. Yeah. And, you know, I want I want to just sympathy. I really want to pick some of the Welsh, but little crap is the only one I would pick. I'm not sure I want to burn a back rower on that. No. So, yeah, I maybe I would end up going five England, five France and then.
00:21:23
Speaker
five Ireland, like your, or some combination at that point, I would basically just stick to. Yeah. I might go four and four. I might go four and four or four and five, something like that. Yeah. Like it depends on, you know, what you're like, you know, who's who you, you know, want to slot in at which position and you know, that it's going to be going to become a lot more tactical at this point. Like, you know, cause we're talking about the wings. Who the fuck do you pick at wing? Well, there's a lot of really good ones. So you're basically banking on somebody that's going to get a pair at least right now. That's what you need.
00:21:51
Speaker
So you're going to make decisions, I think, more along those lines than strict, oh, I want five England, five France. It'll just be, I think, pick who you think is going to score from those four teams, Ireland, Italy, England, France, because any one of them could get fucking points. Yep.
00:22:11
Speaker
Yeah. And, um, a little bit of a, if you didn't pick her before Poppy Cleel is listed as a second row. So if she starts, she's probably going to be in the back row. And that is, that is definitely one of those little cheeky. Yep. I'm going to play that because she's playing out of position type of things. So yeah. And don't be scared about NDA too, at that, at the lock position. Um, that's that kind of physicality will, will cause remember it's, it's not just, you know, meters and stuff like that. It's dominant tackles get you a point who's going to
00:22:41
Speaker
Dominate and tackle. Yep. I like the thoughts. I like the thoughts. Yes, it'll be fine either way. Okay.

Recent Rugby Matches and Key Highlights

00:22:48
Speaker
Let's go down to Atero. We had a pair of subsets. My goodness. Islanders come good on their
00:22:58
Speaker
their ambition to keep themselves alive there, which leaves my hurricanes very lowly and very out. That's all right. I accept that where we're at is because it's for good reason. And that's just how it goes. But a couple of fantastic games. Yeah, we'll start with Forsyth Bar. That was very good.
00:23:18
Speaker
stuff from the hounders backing it up continuously, which is, I mean, yes, they lost to the Chiefs last week, but even look back to the week before where they beat the Crusaders. You know, this team is playing so much better the last couple weeks. So credit to them. That was just brilliant. Craig, Josh, you want to return to the lineup and did not disappoint at all.
00:23:39
Speaker
And I mean, it's not like the blues were half asking it. They had some fucking beautiful work tries. Oh, yeah. There's some great play in this. There's no doubt from either side. Right. Don't just don't dismiss it by any means whatsoever. Yeah. It was just, oh man, this was such a good match. And it was so much fun to watch. I was like, yeah, I enjoy this. Like this. This is the first match of the weekend. If I remember right.
00:23:59
Speaker
Um, I, not certain exactly how it broke down. Yeah, I think it was, but either way, it was either way. It was great stuff. Um, yeah. And in the end, it was a little bit of illness one that bit the, the bit, the blues. They just couldn't stay away from, you know, getting pained. Unfortunately. Yeah. Yeah.
00:24:21
Speaker
It does, it does, it does. You're under a little bit of pressure. Yeah, the pressure will get to you. I'd like to thank the Highlanders for their efforts, of course. For their help. Yeah, and then setting the table. I like that. I appreciate it. That's what I appreciate about them. Yes. And there's two guys I want to highlight for the Highlanders that have played
00:24:47
Speaker
Really well, and one of them's obvious, one of them's a new name, Frisell. I don't know him. We had a conversation about who was going to play in the background and we forgot all about him and really just dismissed him and that was just such a terrible form for that.
00:25:08
Speaker
So yeah, he's I don't I don't know how you rip this rip the black shirt off his back at this point. He's just He's yeah, he's your six. Yeah, and then him him and now coming in from Japan and you know only got about 12 or 12 or 15 caps or something like that for Japan But really he's been a huge part of this team's resurgence if if you watch it's energy like they feed off of him, too It's not just that like the crowd cheers for him. Like, you know, it's yeah, I think he engendered a lot of love in that
00:25:38
Speaker
And then that World Cup and I think it's translating, you know, it's showing here too. Yeah, absolutely brilliant. So it was.
00:25:47
Speaker
It was a deserved one for the hounders. And this, this keeps things real interesting in Subaru. And, and, and you can't not like it. So, um, speaking of, let's jump down to Hamilton and stadium. Wow. Take a, uh, wow. That was just, this is night and day of the chief's team we saw last year, really. And certainly this is just the combination of it really that like, I,
00:26:17
Speaker
They show flashes every so often, but they make up for it. I'm seeing them make a couple of mistakes, but all of a sudden they reorganize and they fix it.
00:26:30
Speaker
And that's really what they missed, you know, a lot on attack and defense if it started going wrong, it just fell the fuck apart. This time they're they're they're holding together a lot better. And I mean the Crusaders are like they could be creators had them right where they wanted them right that it's, you know,
00:26:47
Speaker
Games lean in the Crusaders direction late. This is where they just choke you out. And if it's close, even if you take the lead, they're coming back. Like, I mean, right at the end, right? If you knew the Crusaders were fucking winning that match. Yeah. As you're watching, you're like, yeah, that's the kickoff. Like, yeah, that's fine. There's going to be a penalty. They'll kick for points and that'll be the match. Like, no big deal. That's that's not a new thing. That's how that's how we've seen this movie before. Yes. Yes. I've seen this show once or twice.
00:27:17
Speaker
But no, fucking Akoi. And so first off, I want to talk about Akoi with his running, too. To me, he was immense with running that ball just, you know, in one hand, low for bread style.
00:27:35
Speaker
he's smart about it though right he's he knows he you could see him do it when there's no there was the tackler fully engaged with arms wrapped and no one else around him and that's when he would stick that ball up like who wants it you know like i got this little guy i'm free i'm free who wants it who wants it the thing is that that breaks up the defense it's like you know how um when you're mauling and
00:27:58
Speaker
and if you do nine times it just right he can pull that ball out of the mall as it's still going forward as the defense is still retreating and now you're in attack and the defense has to change change line speed they go they're going backwards now they got to launch and they're not going to launch together so the gaps are there
00:28:15
Speaker
That's actually was doing that one man style. Like the guys that would be near who would be a threat to poach the ball and rock. They're, they're backing up because they're looking for the offload guy and then I'll just take it down and recycle it. And now there's no, no real rock has to form. The nine just takes it and plays it while the defense is all.
00:28:33
Speaker
Like they got the fucking Crusaders line fucked up. Like, yeah, I mean, that takes that takes a bit. You know, Robertson will probably be pulling his hair out a little bit here and there. Oh, yeah. He was not happy. So and then the captain's challenge so that everyone could see Akoya in the match with the penalty shot in the dark. I knew what he was doing. Let's watch this awesome play on the big board. I want to see it live. I'm like, that was clean. I'm like 99 percent sure this was clean, but maybe Barrett saw something I didn't know.
00:29:04
Speaker
Oh man. I was like, Oh, yep. Nevermind. That's totally clean. It was a total shot in dark, obviously, but yeah, it was, it was a good, it was a good steal. It was great. When, um, in, in the loss, how good was well, Jordan, I want to talk about it. Yeah. Yeah. The, uh, the line breaking early on and I'm like, stop that, stop that little Jordan.
00:29:28
Speaker
Yeah. And he finished the, the Barrett, more than a half break that, yeah. I mean, all the right names getting involved in that one, obviously. Um, yeah. I'm finding a new could play 13 in this and that might be his new homes at some point. So that's troublesome. Yeah. Right. So I said, that was a key.
00:29:47
Speaker
Geez, this guy's good. And we saw one Lachlan Bashir return and returned with authority by scoring a try. Good for him. He's good to go. I'll obviously see it. And that's huge, you know, with Caner out the rest of the year.
00:30:03
Speaker
You're back. Okay. Like I know I'd love to have them both. But if I can't, if I can only have one, I fine. I'll take either one. All right. Fine. Yeah, fine. Right. No. I'm on boss. She was good as another. His brother was the one that replaced him in the end. Exactly. I was I was hoping for the bossiest lineup possible. We will get that. We will. I'm sure you will get that at some point here. I did like.
00:30:31
Speaker
Peter Gus, so Akula coming in at lock. Yeah, that's that seemed like a decent move to me, actually. I like him so much better as a lock than as an eight because he's he's not a good runner at all. Not until he runs well and they lose the ball. Yeah, but he doesn't run with strength like he runs into contact and doesn't really go forward so much. And then he'll lose the ball. So that's a problem. That's a be a lock. Don't worry about the running. Let let let Luke Jacobson do or
00:31:01
Speaker
Either one. Yeah. Um, right. Yeah. I think, I think he's, I think he's back in the back row this weekend now. He was, he was at eight, right? So Jacobson was, yes. Okay. Sorry. I've been drinking a little bit. So yeah, he, I liked the way he ran fucker, like put him in, you know, him in the, in the, uh, in the bus years. And I'm here, you're a happy camper complaints from me.
00:31:26
Speaker
Let's take a jump up to the Northern Hemisphere and let's go to Franklin's Gardens. And this was the rugby we, this was a lot similar to the rugby that we fell in love with with the Saints when they had Kobus Reinach. And this is looking a little bit more like the Chris Boyd rugby that he wants to play. Jared, I'm touched that you mentioned Kobus Reinach because he was in my thoughts as well. On the same page here. I mean, really, like a lot of people are like,
00:31:55
Speaker
Really, it's been, okay, we don't have him anymore. And Alex Mitchell has been an awesome Scrum half. And this game was obviously kind of just like a big highlight reel for him. If you weren't paying attention and understanding that Alex Mitchell has been every good as Kobe's Rhinox Ben, then you've been sleeping because he has been. He has been but they've missed that. It's been the drop off right when it's not been Alex Mitchell who
00:32:21
Speaker
who's been there, right? Tom James kind of came through and did well. But yeah, you know, we had Henry Taylor, who we love as a former Saracen, but just wasn't getting it done. And so Tom James and Alex Mitchell, really, it's the one, two punch now for him.
00:32:36
Speaker
Because that's what they need. It's not just having the top line nine. You still need a quality backup for matches, you know, when you want to, you know, basically what you're in and Randall do is what, you know, you want to love to have that kind of combination. And with Tom James backing it up to Alex Mitchell has been. Yeah, this is what they needed when they when they lost Cobas Reinach. That was my thought exactly is this nine combination.
00:33:05
Speaker
Yeah, they've done and so they did quite well. And to say that the London Irish did not contribute to this match in any way, shape or form would be completely incorrect. They definitely did their part in this match, but really in the end, the Saints were too much. And, you know, we're seeing some of their youth.
00:33:22
Speaker
start to just bleed through into this lineup and just really contribute heavily. And it's a fun thing to watch. Ollie Slightholm, is there a better second half player? Oh, but on the Irish though, it's good when Ollie, Hassel Collins and Ben Loader are fucking on point. Yep.
00:33:44
Speaker
Yeah, those guys are team. They're absolutely a better team with the two of them clicking. No doubt. Right. They need it. They need it. That is their that is their best team when the two of them are clicking without a doubt, like anybody else in that lineup that that's, you know, playing in the same fashion still isn't good, isn't as good as those two. So and I'd like the combination of Stokes at 13.
00:34:06
Speaker
with, fuck, who was it? Parton. We got that too. But I mean, Stokes is normally a fullback, but they're moving up to 13 to be full of running there. And I thought he did a good job, although he got crunched pretty well. That's a learning experience for a 13. That happens. Yeah, you'll get over it.
00:34:28
Speaker
Yes, it will. But so the Saints win and they have some aspirations to take a hold of after that. So that's good on them. Let's jump over to the next day and let's go to Sandy Park. And it was, I don't like it. I think we both use the word and I think it was accurate, disappointed. Yeah. The way Woss started this match was absolutely brilliant. And the fact that they couldn't finish it in any way, shape or form close to what they started was extremely disappointing.
00:34:58
Speaker
Very disappointing. They did what you need to do, which is contain Sam Simmons. I'm glad that they at least did that defensively. But at that point, that means you got to win. You take away the other team's best weapon and then you win, right? No. They just... Unfortunately, that's the problem.
00:35:25
Speaker
They did. And Joe Simmons a little bit, too. Yeah, Joe Simmons is coming back to form. Yeah, he is. And that run by Devoto did not help either. Oh, God. I was like, he's gone. Good luck. Yeah, that's like a
00:35:45
Speaker
That's like letting Marlon yard score on you. There's, there's, there's certain guys who, when that happens, you're like, it's not your day. It's not your day. We did see the, um, the president conspiracy theories, Jack Knoll return. Um, so at least he's, at least he's playing rugby now. No longer spouting out bullshit. Yeah. 100%. Don't be, uh, yeah.
00:36:09
Speaker
Okay. Um, so yeah, extra take down was 43 13, slightly better from wasp, but still lots of, lots of room to improve. Um, let's go over to the AJ bell. And it was, you know, if there's going to be one thing that stops you from playing Robert Dupree, it's going to be him getting suspended, I guess. So he's going to be probably, I'm guessing he's out for at least the next match after getting that tip tackle red card.
00:36:37
Speaker
Is that, wait, I can never, I can't get my Dupree suspensions or my, my sale suspensions, um, keeps track of them. Was Robert Dupree already banned this year? It was DDP, I think. Okay. Yeah. DDP did get, okay. Cause I'm like, what if this could be, you know, he was apologetic and he, he didn't.
00:37:03
Speaker
Yeah, he knew he fucked up. He didn't get screwed up completely. He's like, oh, I am in so much trouble right now. Yes, you are. Yes, you are. I was like, oh, he got he did he just yes, he did. Oh, shit. Yeah, you're done. Have a seat, buddy. So I knew that I knew that was coming. And Adam Leland is like, Yep, you're you're you're off. I have no choice. Sorry.
00:37:26
Speaker
Unfortunately for Gloucester, Louis Reesamot left his magical feet in Wales, in the Wales kit. Yeah, so close. He had two. The one that just didn't that like he couldn't get it to bounce off his boot right and he just kind of missed it. And then the other he way overcooked it. It's out the back. Yeah. I saw that. Remember that one.
00:37:47
Speaker
I'm like, oh, like those are the, Hey, if he was playing, if he was in a Welsh uniform, they had two tries. Right. Um, uh, two things you didn't expect good things from two people. You didn't expect good things from Ackerman and may for that, that kick and chase and try. Yeah. Um, I'm still, yeah. I'm I'm a little bewildered on that one.
00:38:12
Speaker
Yeah, great kick. I mean, it was perfect. There's nobody there. Nobody there. Yeah, sure. Have a hoof. Yeah, right. And Johnny Mays is fast, right? And Johnny Mays, as much as I bag on him, is still fast. Like, to me, that's a jag. I even, in my notes, I called it a jag. Just another guy wing try. Like, that's a wing. Shouldn't be able to sprint after that and fall on it the way he did. Yeah.
00:38:42
Speaker
That's good. Good. Fucking good for Johnny today. It doesn't make him national team worthy. So yeah, you should expect that. Um, just wish he would do stuff like that, you know, or like, you know, score other tries than the ones that all he has to do is walk in or dive in.
00:38:58
Speaker
Yeah, the Atkinson's try try was pretty nice too. But in the end, he's been quite the player this year. Yeah, he's he's he's a solid player for them all almost always. Yeah, I mean, this game was over, though, when Barton had to come off with the HIV. I thought that was it. Yeah, trying to tackle a Saffa. No, dude, you're ill advised.
00:39:22
Speaker
Your hair is transparent. Don't try to hit him. You don't exist in a strong enough form to take on somebody with the last name of Dupriya. So don't. Yeah, just try not to. And then, of course, our boy AJ just decides that this game is going to be his and he did the thing he needed to do, which was nail the winning penalty. And that's how good he is.
00:39:45
Speaker
And there was another try scored by like one of those garden gnomes. It's crazy. I can't believe they let him play. Oh, no, I was thinking Faf. Oh, yeah, that that garden gnome. Yeah, that's right. That one. OK, that's actually a question, though. You mentioned it. Why would they take off Reed for for AJ? No, that's not the guy I would take. Right. He was he was.
00:40:14
Speaker
full of the running to leave him in. If you take out the James brothers. Oh, totally. Geez. Um, that's, that's exactly. And you know, they ended up having to remove Rensberg anyway, because he pulled his frigging hammy. So I would not, I would not doubt. I would not count on him this coming weekend. Good. Good notes.
00:40:32
Speaker
Um, okay. So then let's jump over to the stoop and Quinn's just took care of business. There's really no other way to say it. Um, yeah, these guys are good. This is a great outfit. If you didn't know it before, you better fucking pay attention because these guys are playing well. This is our, I think our last opportunity to talk about it. Like in this respect, because the same thing with, with saints versus the Irish. Um, and actually most of the matches this week, you know what I, what we did not see.
00:41:01
Speaker
at all, really in the prem. Do tell. Is the slow ball, forward crash, boot nod, box kick, followed by the slow ball, forward crash, box kick. Back and forth, yeah. Not much of that. It was, let's fucking go. And that's what, you know, I think that's what, you know, Quinn's just like Saints. Quinn's are all about that right now. He's like, let's just go. We'll outscore you. You know, can you match our, you know, like how many chances,
00:41:30
Speaker
you know, can we take against you before we score? And, you know, with poster, fuck, how many chances is it going to take for them to score? So, right? Absolutely. They took two really well at the end to get their bonus point. I will say that last two minutes, they decided, Oh, we're going to play rugby. Yeah.
00:41:47
Speaker
So Guna and Alex Hurl scored, I think that was his first Premiership try, so good on the kit. But that was, but other than that, really, it was, you know, the first couple of minutes, the Warriors fought a little bit. And then, like, after that, it was just, never mind. Yeah, no, it's over.
00:42:04
Speaker
Yeah. We'll go low score. Like, yeah, this was, this was just, uh, I mean, really it was the Marcus Smith show in a lot of ways again. Certainly was. So yeah. And our start of the week, uh, Alex Dombrandt and our co-starts of the week. Um, we actually didn't put the hex on them. Yes.
00:42:23
Speaker
I can't tell you how happy I was about that. I was super happy. I captained Dom Brant this week because I was like, yeah, he's my guy. And I was super pissed that Anton did too. You bastard. Dick. Like everybody's supposed to pick Simmons, but me. Yeah. All right. No, don't do that. No. Oh man. All right. Let's go over to Kingston Park up to Newcastle.
00:42:49
Speaker
at a brocco bank, I'm going to send you a big fat giant bag of poop on your, on your porch, dude, you dick. I will light it on fire. Oh, come on, man. That was such an asshole tackle and he fucking hurt or shitty. And it killed me on my fantasy team as well. But you know, for the kid's sake as well, like
00:43:06
Speaker
You deserve so much better than that. Yeah. Like what the fuck? Know your fucking role. Like, and have some, let's also have a little bit of respect, right? Like you're, you're, you're a prop, nobody. Like don't be causing shit like that. Just do your, you know, scrum, scrum, scrum. Don't be that helmet. Yeah. Don't, you don't get to be a helmet. You're not good enough.
00:43:31
Speaker
You dick. Yeah. So I like sheet eat. Like, you got to, you got to know not to, it's like, that's like, um, what is, you know, just some scrub, like defensive lineman taking out a star quarterback or something. Don't do that. Shit. You know, you don't, you're not, you're not good enough to be that guy. No, we don't need that shit around. No.
00:43:54
Speaker
fuck that shit. Um, but there was some brilliant stuff. Once she had to come off by the bears and that's not sure, not surprising, but anybody else took them a few minutes to wake up, but yeah. And, and it's been a while since max mail-ins has been on a pitch, um, live really, I get all that, that we, you know, at this level anyway, the premiere ship. Yeah. Yeah. Um,
00:44:20
Speaker
But damn, he carved them up. So did Ben Earl. Nice to see the Sarries. Yeah, good to see. I think the Sarisans might have beaten Newcastle in this one alone. Yeah, pretty much. If not, they came close. Let's see, we have a mail-in's try, we have an Earl's try. They came close. The mail-ins have two.
00:44:40
Speaker
You too. Yeah. So we had 15. So Saracen's 15 and Newcastle 17. So pretty good. I'll take. Yeah. Knuckle playing here. Pitts Harding played pretty damn well for himself. I like this hearing. You know, who's shoes he's trying to fill back there.
00:44:56
Speaker
Right. But he's got he's got some pace to him and he's got some hitting to him. So he and Earl. Yeah. And then even he played really well. He had not a lot of music. He got over the line, didn't he? Yes, he did. He did. So good on him.
00:45:16
Speaker
Yeah. But so between the two of them, you know, that, that, that should give Pat Lamb a lot of hope. Like, okay, I don't need to roll a staggering Steven Louis to out there. No, he doesn't know. And that's helpful for him. I can save him for the, I can save his body. And you know, Lou two is not young anymore. So I can save that for, you know, the big matches. Like what's coming this weekend. Exactly. You'll be out there for this weekend. Cause you want Lou two out there against
00:45:43
Speaker
Exeter. Yeah, you need, you need not only his play, but his leadership as well. Right. You might, you're sacrificing Fitzharding's energy and an attacking prowess for a guy who's going to lay the fucking wood to Sam Simmons anytime he gets near the ball. Yep.
00:46:03
Speaker
Uh, and then let's go to Sunday and at the rec, and this was a tight one and a very good one at that. Um, Beth kind of finding that corner a little bit here. It looks like so jammy win.
00:46:20
Speaker
Certainly. This took a lot of guts that they talk about, you know? Right. Good on the boys that are wearing blue, black and white. Damn.
00:46:35
Speaker
And that's, that's not a nothing Lester Tina walk that rocked up. Let's just be real. That that's, that's got loads of quality in it. Up and down. Genj was a fucking pain in the ass. The whole match. I was so mad when everybody else came out in the front row, but him, I was like, get the fucker off the field. I'm done seeing him. Yeah. 62 minutes. And the guy was a terror almost everybody that he was on the field. And it was a long 62. I felt like he was on for 70. I don't know. Like it.
00:47:05
Speaker
Trust me, I'm sure most of Bath will tell you that too. Yeah, and fucking Wiese. Jasper Wiese. What an idiot. He's another yellow card waiting to happen. What the hell, man? Dope. Yeah, stop it. You're so good otherwise. He has so much quality. Yeah, he does not need to do that. Like, stop being stupid.
00:47:30
Speaker
But on the other side, if we want to talk seriously, we want to talk to one of the best players, period, just absolute rugby players in the premiership. We have to be talking about Zack Mercer right now. A hundred percent. He's going to be so missed by this team next year, and he's going to have such a great time at Montpellier, but goddamn, this guy is good.
00:47:53
Speaker
He was essentially playing 10 at one point and he put Will Stewart through such a hole that your eight doesn't do that, right? And not only that, but also distributing out on like the wings too. Like he wasn't, it wasn't just, he was throwing that pass too. He was throwing fucking every 10 pass. Ridiculous. But that gap, Stewart had a nice little John.
00:48:18
Speaker
Yeah. You're welcome. That's a beer later on. Oh man. You know, eight defenders beat and just, you know, he had over a hundred meters ran like 12 passes. The kid can do so much. And as a rugby player, you know, he's playing an essential position that you, you know, let's put it this way. Tulip it felt out who had a great
00:48:41
Speaker
six nations playing eight for whales could not unseat him from that position. He's playing eight because he's playing so damn well. It's really hard to take that number off his back right now. Right. So, yeah, just a fast and felt us playing so well, like that, that whole they're, they're, they're back row situation that they've done is brilliant. It's awesome. Faletau underhilled Mercer and read just what he
00:49:08
Speaker
but I'm miles read for getting himself over the line. I think that's his first permission to try. So this is his first shit. I thought he'd scored already. If he had, I don't remember it, but I'm either one either way. The kid deserves to try just the same. He's done a lot of hard work and made, made, um, made some real good stuff for this club. So he, he, he earned that permission to try it. No doubt. Yeah.
00:49:28
Speaker
And also we've got to talk about Benny. Oh Spencer, yeah, absolutely. But I love how both halves ended with him with the opportunity for a kick at goal.
00:49:44
Speaker
The first half, the first half, what the fuck was he doing? I don't know what the hell he thought with that one, but it didn't work. At least at the full, at the death, he was a tri-conversion, so he couldn't do something stupid. You have to kick for points. That's the law. Yeah. No, you're kicking, dude. No choice. Oh, shit. All right. But go on the boys from Bath.

Freejax Match Challenges

00:50:13
Speaker
Freejax recap, just a whole lot of disappointment really in so many ways. It was a good performance from the guys in red, white and blue, but just a lot to shake your fist out and go, what the fuck?
00:50:28
Speaker
Um, yeah, I did everything that from the pitch. Oh, absolutely. Not even excusable. I'm sorry. I don't care if this is a, you know, B list professionally. That is not a professional level rugby pitch. That's the story of the puddles and the mud and all that shit. No, you're a fucking joke.
00:50:51
Speaker
Yeah, that's, that's not cool. They have a, you got to have a better pitch than that. You got to know when that and their fucking commentary team just fuck the fuck off the two of the, like all of that, all of that. I will be happy to never ever go to that fucking stadium. That's for sure. Yeah.
00:51:07
Speaker
I love, but then that's a shame because wouldn't you love to go see a match in New Orleans? But no, not there. Yeah, that's like almost anywhere else. Yeah, almost anywhere else it will go, but not there. Not there. That's like Jared and I were swapping stories about.
00:51:26
Speaker
starting in the fucking puddle on the pitch. That's a club level, guys. Come on. Yeah. Like, what the fuck? Right. That's yeah. Clubs have moved past that mostly. Yeah. So they should be way past it as well. Yeah. And MLR really needs TMO because there was the try that
00:51:44
Speaker
And there being a big difference in this match as well. And there was one in the earlier match with JP Doyle that was not awarded, it didn't matter. Toronto just talked Seattle, so that didn't matter. But still, it was clear that they needed to actually have a look at that, both situations. And they don't have that opportunity right now. And why? I don't know. I can't imagine it's that difficult, honestly.
00:52:14
Speaker
I still maintain that Freejax won this 31 and 30, but that was a good conversion. I swear the flags went up. I don't know what the fuck happened there. No idea either. And yeah, just disappointing. Just disappointing on a couple of levels, but mostly because they lost. If they'd won, it would have been okay.
00:52:38
Speaker
We would have just, that would have been one of those ones you were happy to win and fucking leave. Fucking move on. Burn the tape. Don't worry about it. This is more just like burn the tape and fuck that. Absolutely. I do not, I do it all. Um, the, the positives out of it. We saw doogie five show me how to doogie. Yeah. Um, yes, absolutely. I'm holding onto that one. And then, uh, um, Tara and Timbo made his debut as well for the free jacks, which is awesome.
00:53:04
Speaker
Oh, elsewhere in the league, uh, Toronto, as I said, tonked Seattle 52 to seven. Will that weird early start, uh, San Diego up, up ended Utah 3129 in their first home game back at Toronto stadium, um, for the season, which was, which is that itself is awesome. Um, Houston lost to the Guillotine 3548. Who's going to stop LA? I have no idea.
00:53:26
Speaker
Austin beat Atlanta 1715. Austin's got a little something going on with that. That back line's pretty good if it's at full noise. So look out. And then New York in their first home game of the year was able to take care of DC 3834. We got the, I believe we got DC coming up this weekend. Yes, we do. We're down in DC. Oh man, when COVID's not around, that'll be a fun away day.
00:53:50
Speaker
That'll be awesome. Okay. We got the start set thing that we gotta do. So let's go. Let's go to it first. Yes, I am forcing reds. Reds are the toughest right in super rugby. Reds are the toughest in the comp right now and points against top three in everything but front row. Yikes.
00:54:09
Speaker
For the force, Tim Anstee, he's a sevens convert. He's a loose forward playing with back skills and scores a decent average. So a couple of times he's played, he's more than 60 minutes. He scored at least nine, so might be worth the roll. Go for it. Force front row, as mentioned, the one place the Reds aren't killing it is the front row. And the force have shown that they got some pretty good with Kai Tu and Robertson and Greg Holmes. So might be worth the play, especially if you have a front row that's currently sitting on by. That's probably your option. True. That might be available.
00:54:38
Speaker
Yeah. So on the other side, uh, current Johnny, I got to see it now. He's facing a top opposition on top of that. So that's not helpful. Um, I do like the player, but just gotta see it now on the other side of the pitch force aren't particularly tough against any position. They're third to last in points again. So yeah, they're going to be a little leaky, um, for the reds, Luke on solid guy, Lotto, he's playing lock, but he's listed as a loose forward force against locks though. So with his skills, this might be actually worth a gamble.
00:55:08
Speaker
So there's that. I'm going to give you another gamble to throw out there because you might be in a pinch. Alyssa Dross, I say, midfielder for the, I probably butchered his names and I totally apologize for that, for the Reds on the, he's on the bench, but Forsythe are awful against mids. And if you're in a pinch, which most of us usually are when it comes to midfielders, he scored nine plus both times he's played.
00:55:32
Speaker
Just saying. So there's that. And I think he came off the bench for one of those. Helpful. On the other side, Liam Wright is back, but wait and see for him. This is, he's in that six hole, which is a little concerning for me. Yeah. Yeah. Always a watch, watch out situation.
00:55:48
Speaker
Um, onto, I'm assuming water Taz rebels. Yeah. All right. Um, the, the Taz are strong against loose forwards and fucking the worst everywhere else. Um, pretty much, um, rebels are weak against front row middies and fly half. And then they're just strong everywhere else. So that said, the water Taz there, their front row. Um, Donaldson is a decent pickup for the week at 10. So yeah. Foketi and Parisi, um, are, are.
00:56:18
Speaker
Give it a shot. Yeah. Roll it out there. See what happens on the other. Yeah. Roll the dice on the other side for the rebels. Michael Wells, Matt, Timua, Stacy, Eli Corvetti and Omani are all those. Those are your, you know, those are probably your names. Yeah, totally.
00:56:36
Speaker
agreed agreed agreed all right chiefs and hurricanes another dollar on the line i think this is actually to give me the dollar back finally because i beat you in super in the in the podcast league not in those champions league i believe maybe that was the champion's league now i think about it i don't remember but either way yeah i know i got one league
00:56:56
Speaker
Yeah. Anyway, to the match, uh, chiefs, um, Lachlan Boscher, he is back. Play him. Don't blink. Do it. Um, bring Gatlin this weekend. Hurricanes are particularly soft against fly-offs. Good week to have him roll him out there. Um, naked bill on the other side of it, um, going against slow Mape in the hurricanes, aren't that bad against the midfield, especially concerning who naked those going to have lining up against him. I would definitely be doing, be, uh, hesitant to play him this week.
00:57:25
Speaker
On the other side of it, Chiefs are a little soft as well, but there's still some places I wouldn't play either. For the for the Hurricanes, Hurricanes front row Chiefs are the best against the front row, but I think between Amua and Coles, that makes them totally worth the play.
00:57:43
Speaker
Luke Campbell, who's their halfback, playing pretty well. And Chiefs are very weak against the halfback. So maybe he goes for a little jaunt and makes it worth your while. Halfbacks are also very hard to find right now because you have one and one. So if you're, if you've got somebody hoarding halfbacks, you're totally screwed. So you got to find them. Peter Umaria Jensen on the other side of it, love the player, but fantasy has not been his thing this year. And she's a fairly strong going up the middle. So nope, sorry, sorry, buddy. Love you, but no.
00:58:13
Speaker
On to Crusaders versus the Blues. Crusaders and Blues are the top two defenses in Super Rugby out era. So they're three and four overall in the comp, so reasonably good. Crusaders are leakiest against loose forwards and midfielders, strongest against scrumhaves. Blues are middle of the pack all around, but they're strongest against centers.
00:58:38
Speaker
Crusaders, especially with good you, um, out, it's going to, you know, unless they go finding a new coup, but that's still at 13, I'd still throw him. I'd still start him as I'm going to tell you. Um, so Moonga and all the outside backs essentially, and bridge, find a new coup, Reese Jordan. They, they pull that same lineup with all four of them in there. Go for it anyway. Um, don't, don't, don't even though the blues are strong against centers, finding a new coup is a, uh,
00:59:04
Speaker
He's a different breed. Yeah, he doesn't stop because people are good against his position. On the other side for the Blues, Papa Li'i, Satutu, Oteria Black, and Riko Ioani are our goes. Everyone else?
00:59:20
Speaker
Hold the beat. Hold the beat. Hold back. Yeah. Just start, start of the week for super Ruby. I'm not the biggest fan of this guy, but it's called badly need a big performance out of him. And he has the ability with him. And it's just that it's just that we don't often see it enough. So that's why I don't like him. I think this is the week that we see it from him now. So my start of the week for around 10 of super Ruby is wallabies and rebels flyer, America quarter betty.
00:59:52
Speaker
Yeah. He should, he should be scoring high. Um, for mine, it's a guy we've liked, uh, ever since he, he was even in the prem, even regardless of the team he played for. Um, and then he's just shown up down in Melbourne and been huge. And I think he will continue that performance against an incredibly weak, uh, Juarez team. So my start of the week is number 10, Matt Tumua.
01:00:13
Speaker
Mm, OK. Yeah, that's it.
01:00:19
Speaker
Uh, yes, I love the man, uh, for mine. Um, I mentioned him before and I'm someone that has him on my team. So this is really going to pay me to throw this out there. Um, he's going against staunch opposition this week. And that, that hasn't really, he just hasn't been the same guy, um, that we really wanted for his club this year. So my city of the week for round tennis, who really be is while he's in force run, busting center to beat their current Johnny. Hmm.
01:00:46
Speaker
And on my end, it's not a position that scores many points.
01:00:53
Speaker
You know, we, we frequently tell people to tell you all out there to, to not bother starting a position. Um, if, even if you're desperate, cause you're probably going to get negative points. Um, and they're playing a tough team against nines anyway. So my, my sit of the week is the blues nine, whoever it is, uh, has not been announced yet either knock or, or ruru. Just don't just stay the fuck away.
01:01:18
Speaker
Likely, likely, likely. I agree. Look elsewhere. Yeah. All right. Let's go with the prem. Bristol and Exeter. Exeter have become a weird one. Middle of the pack in TRM, but a bit tougher in FRD. Should provide some chances for the Bristol Bears. This is going to be a huge match, and I can't wait for it. Oh, actually, I think I'm going to be out getting a drink with somebody when it's on. Damn it. Maybe I can get them to find out in there. Anyway, Bristol front row and your choice of prop.
01:01:45
Speaker
for Bristol because Exeter are terrible against both. Fitz Harding looked really good last week and Exeter aren't particularly tough against Flangers, so that's a good outside the box player right there. On the other side of the coin, if Tiff Eden is the guy, I don't think he necessarily is, but if he's the guy that they go with at 10, it might be Lloyd. Lloyd's probably a better option if it is him though.
01:02:07
Speaker
There's no sheetie this week. It's already been told that he's likely to miss. That's not the replacement you want to go seeking. There's another option out there somewhere. Go find it, please. Especially in FRD. Go, go, go. Exit on the other side. Bears are top in both formats. But the men from Devon might have something, but let's not get too cute this week here, okay? So don't go signing other stupid guys from there. Sam Skinner. Great option. Versatile. Consistent score. Not super expensive.
01:02:37
Speaker
especially as far as TRM goes. So I'm giving him a complete thumbs up. I love the guy. Cordero and Oflarity, one should do well. Just not sure which one. Both are worth the play. Just kind of keep an eye on that. You're probably going to land in like the 20s for TRM and probably like the high single digits to maybe low teens or low double digits for FRD.
01:03:00
Speaker
on the other side of the coin. Alec Hepburn, not the best option that's propped, and he's way too highly owned, especially this week. This is the wrong opponent to have him. So either ditch him or at the very least don't fucking strike him, please. Good Lord. Over to the Irish versus the Quins. It does not get any easier for the London Irish. They're facing essentially
01:03:22
Speaker
from attacking perspective, the same team they just played. But from a defensive standpoint, a much tougher team. So it's kind of going to be a little bit of a rough go for the Irish, even in home.
01:03:35
Speaker
But still, their front row is worth a start, especially if they start, you know, as they start rolling through some of their players. Like, I really want to see more Hoskins in the front row because he just he plays. I don't know what the reason is that he's only, you know, he's he's there. Their second half, their finisher. But I'm not really that impressed by every Clark Goodrich Clark or
01:04:01
Speaker
Love Joy Chawatama, like I'm not really that, I don't understand. Amazing name, but not a great player. Right. Anyway, still start their front row, whoever it is, they're still going to score points and the Hot Skins will come on and fucking run through people. He'll get you the points, just not as many as you'd like. Blair Cowan, yes. Ollie Hassell Collins, Loader and Parton, all yes, yes, yes. Because they'll get their meters and probably busted tackle here or there.
01:04:30
Speaker
Uh, for the other side, for the Queens, Will Evans, we didn't mention him earlier, but he has been on. He was so good. Um, and Dom Brant and care and Smith and pretty, and the rest of the fucking back line. Um, just go. Cause you know what, you know what they're going to do. They're going to attack and that's, that means there's going to be gaps for those, those backs to get through. So they're, they're speed guys, you know, they're, they're six, seven, eights and the backs that go for it.
01:04:53
Speaker
Yeah, they were spitting stats about well, Evans, how he's got like some of the most return, like the most turnovers in the prime right now by far. I mean, yeah, a lot of that is that, you know, some of the, some of the players who normally be, you know, get that we're away, but still for a significant portion. So yes, he's got it. He's got it by a margin at this point. So yes.
01:05:13
Speaker
All right, let's go to six ways Wooster and Sail. Sail are still one of the tougher outfits, points against Wwise. This is really not going to change after this match, unfortunately. Someone from Wooster will score points though, because it

Fantasy Rugby Picks and Strategies

01:05:25
Speaker
just happens. You know, not going to be amazing. They're going to score. Yeah, they're not going to score points on the scoreboard, but they'll get their meters.
01:05:30
Speaker
Yep. For Worcester, Anton Bresler, not super expensive, generally score as well as a second row when he starts, I'd give him a play, or at least a look. Billie Cyril might actually be an okay option this week, but keep your expectations to a dull roar as opposed to a high, high screen there.
01:05:47
Speaker
Don't go captaining. No, please don't. Ted Hill, good player, but typically needs the right matchup to do well. This isn't it. There's usually one loose forward that does well against sale. Just not sure it's him. I think it'll be either Kovacic or if it's Depriya that's playing eighth. Isn't he, did he get hurt or am I just making that up? Oh, actually he might have. I don't remember.
01:06:07
Speaker
I don't remember. There was a lot going on in that match. It's a blur. Worcester on the other side, bleed points all over the place. I believe they're bottom now. Oops. Um, options. So might come out of the dark for sale. We'll find out. Um, we've been banging on the job for this guy all year. JP DiPrio, he's back. He's scoring. He's a good, it's a great spot to grab him right now as a second row. Um, second row score. Well, when they steal steal lineouts and he steals a lot of them. Yeah. Right. All right. Um,
01:06:37
Speaker
I don't normally name this guy, but Luke James, but this might be a week to play him. This might be a week to play him. I know it's not Sam, at least fucking Sam is Luke James. Um, if, uh, if any, if either of them, I ever recommended him and this is the week I'll, I'll give him a kind of a cautious thumbs up grudgingly, except at least it's not Sam.
01:06:59
Speaker
Yeah. No. And then on the other side of the coin, don't get tempted by last week's performance from the mini, the mini man FAF. Just drop. You have so much coin that you have to drop on him, but he's not worth it. Just ditch it and save yourself and go get yourself a couple of quality guys that can fill in elsewhere. Okay. Off to Lester in North Hampton. Um,
01:07:24
Speaker
Uh, this match Midlands. Yeah, it's right. The, uh, Midlands Derby, uh, for, for, for Lester. So, you know, what Lester, I mean, Northampton attack well, but they don't defend all that well. So there are the points are on offer, um, especially around those, those, um,
01:07:45
Speaker
mid number positions, you know, your seven, eight, nine, tens, they will, they'll score well against Northampton. So you're looking at Raphael, um, visa, just pray he does not get carded. Um, Ben, Ben, Ben, you know, the, the other youngs, the other young, that's not Tom, not Tom. Um, and, and the, the 10 that runs kind of well, um,
01:08:09
Speaker
George something or other. For the other side, kind of the same concept. Lewis Ludlam will get you his fucking points because he's been just beastly. As you're talking about within nine, whoever's there, whoever's starting, let's put it that way. Yeah, whether it's James or Mitchell, it doesn't matter. You'll be fine because I can't imagine anyone else will be starting at this point. Right.
01:08:34
Speaker
And Dan bigger. And then the rest of that back line, you know, we briefly mentioned slight home fucker. Like I was so mad that he didn't score in the first half, but I was like, wait, he scores in the second half. Like, and did he ever, and then he did. So I'm like, all right, there we go. Nevermind. He will get his, um, apparently now. So yeah, it's just whoever they plug in there. I mean, even fucking Pierce Francis.
01:08:58
Speaker
Yeah. Um, yeah. He found the trial line. He come from being like, where does he get off being a good rugby player these days? He started, he started playing a lot better the last few weeks. Yeah. He has a fascinating, um, he's, he's worth a start. So yeah, that Northampton side don't at this point.
01:09:14
Speaker
go for their entire back line. They're all wide opens. Right. Pretty good stuff. Gloucester, Newcastle, Gloucestershire, Newcastle are back being one of the leakier teams in the league, especially in TRM. Plenty of fantasy opportunities here for Gloucester.
01:09:29
Speaker
Chris Harris, Newcastle are decent against midfielders, especially an FRD. He's too good of a damn player though. So I'm going to give him a thumbs up for sure. Singles, he's back. He scored well against one of the tougher teams out there. So he's a definitive go on the other side of the coin. Willie Hines just isn't the same scrum half, half back, whatever as Charlie Chapman or Barney. So I would find him, especially if you have another option.
01:09:52
Speaker
on the other side of the field, excuse me, Gloucester are middling to weak in points against, as we hit the pointy end of the season here. So, Falcons should have some players to go with here for Newcastle. Mark Wilson could be a good week to play him. Gloucester are soft against loose forwards and flankers. So, that's a go for Mr. Captain, Mr. Newcastle himself, Mark Wilson.
01:10:16
Speaker
Brett Connan, if you're in that Callum Sheedy pinch, this might be your guy right here. That's probably more your option than Tiff Eden, I would say, at the very least. On the other side of it, Ben Stevenson, handy that he's a midfielder playing outside back, but that's kind of where it ends right now, especially the last few weeks. Play him if you must in FRD, but pine him in TRM if you have him. I mean, he's getting close to 10 points. And for a midfielder, that's good. For an outside back, it's not. So, yeah, he's worth it. He gets the points that you need at midfield.
01:10:48
Speaker
A three degree degree. Oh, over to our last match at the Rico wasps versus Bath. Once again, Bath are ascendant in a lot of ways, but their defense is still quite leaky. A little shaky. And wasps. Umaga actually played well, scored well, I should say, fantasy wise. He did. Rather than played well.
01:11:16
Speaker
So I don't know. I, so anyway, I start the, start the wasp for a row. You have to figure, um, at some point here, especially again, like he was probably licking his chops to go against a team like bath too. Um,
01:11:33
Speaker
and against that back line or back row and show he belongs on that level too. So yeah, the whole wasp back row too. Robson, I think should be a go. Maybe Umaga, as I said, you know, the bats are leaky, so Umaga could be scoring points, although I'd avoid the centers unless Odagua was playing in there. Other than that, Basset, Odagua, Kiberige out wide, yeah, go.
01:11:56
Speaker
Do you want to go on the other side for the bath? Baffman, Underhill, Falotel, Mercer Reed, as you were talking about, all of them, whoever you just go, whoever's in the back row there, Ben Spencer, Cameron Redpath, Muir McConaughey Watson. I mean, if they roll out with Muir McConaughey Watson back back three, I will be. I'll be so excited to see that back three. Very excited. And yeah, they're all very much a go.
01:12:23
Speaker
We missed talking about Jonathan Joseph getting hurt, which is because that's just not much fairly news anymore. I know. And that's unfortunate for him. It is. That's disappointing. He's such a good player, but he's just just kind of stay healthy. Fragile. It's tough and stuff. I'm gonna stay healthy and that sucks.
01:12:42
Speaker
Okay. So the weeks, I think this guy has been an outstanding, has been outstanding all season. Every time he gets bench, he proves it is worth in double, like just doubles down on it says, Nope. I, I'm definitely the best guy, the best guy for the job. Last week, last week he was a big reason. Maybe he was a big reason. This club won with a man down. This week's opposition is right for the picking.
01:13:04
Speaker
I saw the week for around 17 in the prime is the red, white, blue fly half for sale. One, Alan James. Don't call me as AJ McGinty. Indeed. He is the start of the week. I think he's got, I think he's everybody's start of the week this week. I don't think it's a really a shock. So I'm assuming is not playing after that red card. So he's got to be yet.
01:13:27
Speaker
There's no way that Sanderson can screw that up. He's just going to be like, shit, I have no other option you're playing. I think at this point, he's obviously sorted out the Jono Ross situation that he can't play Jono Ross. I guess so, yeah. I mean, you haven't seen the likes of him for a while. For a while. Like when he after got carded for like the third match in a row, I think Sanderson's like, you know what, fucker, like just, no, you have a seat. No way. We don't need you. And yeah.
01:13:53
Speaker
That's kind of getting to the point now where he can't I don't know how much like you get it maybe against a glosser, right? You think that's and that's the thing just as I were saying with Brocklebank with RDP like
01:14:06
Speaker
you don't, you, you can't be, you know, you get, you're playing against Gloucester for a reason, right? That's, that's your, like, cause you're, don't screw it up, man. Don't fuck it up. And then he fucks it up. So, um, yeah, AJ will be, you know, whether or not there's a suspension of all them, sure. AJ is playing. Yeah. No, I, from here, from here on out. Yeah. I think he, I think he deserves that 10 shirt all day.
01:14:30
Speaker
I'm fairly certain we will not have the same sit of the week though. No, I'm sure of it too. Near 100. Uh-oh. Now that worries me. We'll see. All right. So this guy's a little more highly owned than I'd expect considering his output.
01:14:46
Speaker
His opposition this week isn't going to do him any favors or his compatriots up front. His clubs are in for a tussle this weekend. So it's not going to help his value at all for me this week. So my set of the week for around 17 of the Prem is England and Exeter prop Alec Hepburn. Okay. And the Exeter front row.
01:15:08
Speaker
There you go. Same match, same team for me. And this player is a quality player, no doubt. And has been scoring lately. We've been actually talking about him. But Bristol are just really fucking good against his position.
01:15:30
Speaker
And when he goes up against quality, some quality competition, he can, he can, he can wilt a little bit as far as fantasy production. He'll still take ass. He'll still be fine, you know, um, as a player, but he's not going to do what he did. You know, he's not going to go for a John. Um, and, and I'm not sure how, like, because I think Bristol are going to, to shut down Sam Simmons the same way, you know, other teams have, um, that really is going to limit.
01:15:58
Speaker
Um, the opportunities attack. So I don't even know how much she's going to get the chance to kick for points either. So, uh, I just, I'm not sure where the fantasy points are going to come from this week for, for Joe Simmons. So it was my third of the week. No, that's a big call. Similar position to, so you got a theme there with the, the fly house there. Uh, yes. Yeah. And we can.
01:16:18
Speaker
I look forward to seeing AJ play against England this summer too. I'm sorry, that's Sir Joe Simmons. Yes. I should show the proper. MBE, Joe Simmons. All right, Champions League, you round up here.

League Results and Standings

01:16:33
Speaker
FRD, we're getting to the pointy end here, as I said. It's going to be interesting. I just couldn't quite hang on against George.
01:16:40
Speaker
Ben, you scored well too, and you still got talked by Carrick. I mean, a lot of good scores this week. Let's be real about this. This was a good weekend for everybody around. Anton beat Justin in the Battle of the Safas, and Mark was able to up end Duncan. I think Duncan's sitting on the base room, unfortunately, for him. Let's see what's going on this weekend.
01:17:01
Speaker
I think it's me and Carrick. Wow. Holy shit. So just for the audience's awareness. So in three fantasy rugby draft leagues, I've heard of leagues. I scored over 130 in each league. And I went one and two. Oh, did you get one? I beat Malcolm.
01:17:18
Speaker
All right. Sorry, my by like less than two points. Whoo. Whoo. Squeaky bum time. So what the fuck? The F.R.D. would be the components. Why? Why am I like the second highest score in pretty much every league? And you're you're getting the shaft, man. I don't know what to tell you. It's happened. It's happened to me before, too. I know.
01:17:39
Speaker
Totally sucks. That's all right. So I got a character this weekend. Mark and Justin do battle. Duncan and Anton Lockhorns and our old friend George gets a piece of Ben.
01:17:54
Speaker
and super rugby. Yes, this is the one where I got where I gotcha. Yes, yes, yes. No wrecking ball. Got it. Finally, I need I need to battle back. Otherwise, I'm going to be fucking screwed out of this league. So I got to start putting ones together. Mark was able to beat Duncan, George upended, almost doubled up.
01:18:15
Speaker
Carrick, oops. And then Justin won in the battle of Safa's there as well. And then this coming weekend, I think I might get, I might have George again. Yep. That's exactly what it is. I got, so Marcus playing Justin Carrick gets a piece, gets a piece of Anton. It's myself and George and Ben's going to take on Duncan leaderboard for the TRM. Not a lot shifting around these days.
01:18:45
Speaker
It's a little bit, a little bumps here and there. You were, I, yeah, I pulled into second. Yep. Justin has dug himself out. He's now, he's now six and marks down to seventh. Um, really it's like,
01:19:01
Speaker
It's a you three at the top and then it's everybody. And it's at this point, it's like you three at the top. And there's me and George for four and five. And that's the other three at the bottom. So that seems to be how it's going. So right now, Anton's up at the top, Ben, Duncan, myself, and George kind of fighting for that fourth and fifth spot. Justin, Mark, and Carrick's kind of holding up the league at the moment.
01:19:22

Upcoming Match Predictions

01:19:23
Speaker
right. Let's go to some pick. Um, you fucker, you were able to get a couple games on me after I tied you up. Dick. Oh, well. All right. Let's make it. Let's make it quick. Well,
01:19:36
Speaker
Do I have to pick the hurricanes? I'm not picking the hurricanes. I'm not stupid enough. They're in Waikato. I'm taking the Chiefs. I hope the hurricanes win, but I'm taking the Chiefs. Fuck. All right. Well, I'm taking the Chiefs too. Yeah. Yeah. Because they're probably going to win. Probably going to win. And they're fighting for something. They're fighting for their lives there. They're in second place, motherfucker. Yeah, right. I'm loving this. Yeah. This is much better than expected. If things were to end now, they'd be in the final. So yeah. All right. Force Reds. Force are fighting for it, man. But the Reds went full noise.
01:20:05
Speaker
Yeah, that's going to be reds. Yeah, I love what the force are doing. They want they want they want three in a row or something. Yeah, they're they're right there for that semifinal spot, but it's not believable. But that's it's because it's unbelievable that it's just not believable. So yeah, not quite there. No, it's not been on that level.

I will say that I watched some of the some of the odds. The referee from the Rebels, Brumby's match is supposed to be going to Tokyo, and I have no idea why, because he was horrible. I was like, oh, this is going to be the best you send. Look out, Tokyo Olympics. This is not going to go well. Not good. Yeah. Yeah. It's Brumby's and force and force are just hanging on to the final playoff spot right now. So get on them. Todd's and Rebels. Rebels are going to get done, I believe. Yeah, Rebels.

And the big one can the, I mean, the blues need this, the blues need this badly. At this point, the crusaders kind of need it in a way. Yeah. So this is like, yeah. Um, back against the law and taking the crusaders at home.
01:21:07
Speaker
And they've lost two in a row, right? No, no. Two out of three still. And they got pushed. That doesn't happen, yeah. They got pushed in the other match too, so. Yeah, it's not happy timing. At Christchurch, no way, man. At Christchurch, no, they're not fucking around. And especially at a home match, I can't pick the blues. Nope, sorry, blues. Good conscience. Nope.
01:21:31
Speaker
Well, up to the prem, Bristol and Exeter, the big one. I'm taking the bears. I'm taking the bears, too. I really I don't believe in Exeter. Yeah, they're going to have to. They have to change their minds right now. Yeah. Which is really hard to say because they are good, you know. Right. And it's not that, you know, it's the reason I'm picking against them isn't because I don't believe in them. It's because I don't believe in them. And they're playing the fucking bears who are just.
01:21:58
Speaker
who have been tearing it up. Rubbing nuts all over people, you know, whether it's just showing big balls and coming from behind or just the crunching teams from the get-go. Agreed. Yeah, they're going to shut down, Sam. They're smart enough to do that and they'll know where to attack. So, yeah. It'd be interesting. Irish Quinn's taking Marcus Smith and company. Yes, I agree.
01:22:21
Speaker
Yep. Uh, sale and Worcester. Sorry. So, uh, North Hampton Lester, this'll be interesting because they did not get to play this, this, uh, this match the first time around. Um, so this will be very interesting to see these two teams go at it. I'm going to take the team that's attacking better, you know, Hampton, but man, this is going to be a fucking battle. I can feel it already. I just think Lester are not one where we're
01:22:47
Speaker
Where are they in the table at this point? They're, they're kind of, yeah, they're there, but they're not like, um, they're not challenged. They're not really a realistic at this point. They're not a realistic challenge for fourth. So, um, I'm not sure how this is going to go for them, but Northampton are, so they got a, uh, you know, they, they're going to be the more motivated team and Lester will want to win, but you know, I could see, I could also see Lisa getting carded and that just.
01:23:11
Speaker
That'll just tell her blow that up. Yep. Great. Gloucester and Newcastle. Gloucester and Newcastle just aren't playing very well right now. And it depends if Barton is available. I think he'll be okay. He didn't pass his HIA this weekend, but he didn't look like he came off all groggy and stuff. So I think he'll be okay. Yeah, I don't know. So I'm just not sure. Yeah, it's the head you never know, I suppose, but. Right. But also who's going to play 10 for Newcastle?
01:23:39
Speaker
on in our Hodgson, I would guess it can't be flood. If it's flawed, then they're screwed. Right. So I don't really believe in either team though. That's the problem. So I'll take home team in that case, but I'm also thinking I like, I, I, I have a little bit more faith in new castle. So I'm going to go with the Falcons, the Falcons. Okay.
01:23:58
Speaker
All right. Here we go. And then boss bath. I love that back row of bath. I got to take them right now. And I understand they're having a hard time figuring out who's going to play 10. Hopefully priestlin's back.
01:24:10
Speaker
Mm hmm. But at this point, I've I really liked Matt of AC at 10. And they might they might they might stick him back in there with what somebody else had said at this time. I mean, do you I mean, against Jacob? Are you kidding me? Yeah. I'm fucking running Matt of AC down his fucking throat. Yeah. He's a load. He's a who's. And that bath attack changed.
01:24:34
Speaker
They took a major step down when when he had to push out and had when they had to. Yeah, Bailey Bailey came in. No, so to me I'm going with bath here. Yep, I agree that I'm talking myself. I'm sending my feelings out to to Stuart Hooper. Telekinesis over here. Yeah, but either way, I don't really believe in wasps there. They're kind of got to see it team. Yep, no joke. OK, so.
