Picking a mentor for your psychic mediumship journey is a huge undertaking. How do you know who to trust? Who will really be able to help you hone your skills? How important is the personalization of your mediumship tutoring? Our guest & psychic mentor Karen Romine helps us navigate these tricky waters.  About Our Guest: Karen Romine has been practicing energy therapy since discovering Usui Reiki in 1996. Over the years, she has furthered her education by obtaining various certifications, such as the Certification of Clinical Applications of Essential Oils in 2014, the Certification in Comprehensive Iridology in 2019, and the Certification as a Crystal Energy Therapist. Notably, in September of 2021, Karen obtained her Certification as a Healer, as Psychic, and a Medium, and in February of 2022, she received her Certification as a Forensic Investigator, both through the Lisa Williams International School of Spiritual Development. www.KarenRomine.com [http://www.karenromine.com/]

Speaker: Welcome to The Psychic Apprentice.

Speaker: The Psychic Apprentice is hosted by Amber Hadley, a novice psychic who is on a mission to become a successful and effective medium.

Speaker: Each episode features a different guest who is an expert in the field of mediumship, psychic abilities, or paranormal phenomena.

Speaker: Together we'll learn from these guests and apply their teachings to our own journeys of psychic development.

Speaker: Sit back, listen, and learn with us.

Speaker: Welcome to The Psychic Apprentice.

Speaker: My name is Amber Hadley, and we're here today with Karen Romine.

Speaker: We have a lot of really great things to talk about.

Speaker: Karen is a very experienced practitioner.

Speaker: She's in energy therapy.

Speaker: Yusu Reiki, did I say that right?

Speaker: Usui.

Speaker: Usuli Reiki.

Speaker: And she has various certificates, a lot of years in the field.

Speaker: She has clinical applications of essential oils.

Speaker: She has a psychic.

Speaker: She's a healer.

Speaker: She's a medium.

Speaker: I mean, she pretty much does it all.

Speaker: So she is the perfect person for us to have here to help us along our learning journey.

Speaker: And she

Speaker: I just want to let you know this one is a very, very important episode.

Speaker: It's about picking your mentor as a budding psychic medium and how important that is, if it's important at all, and what you should look for.

Speaker: But Karen, I would love to give you a moment to...

Speaker: say anything that I missed.

Speaker: Your resume is really impressive.

Speaker: So I definitely want to give you a chance to introduce yourself a little bit.

Speaker: And maybe you can give us a little background on how you really came to this life path and where you are now.

Speaker: Well, first, thank you very much for having me.

Speaker: I'm looking forward to our conversation about everything.

Speaker: And I think it's a really important thing what you're doing to spread the word to people who are coming into the space.

Speaker: You talked about my certifications that I have.

Speaker: And specifically in this space, I got my certification as a spiritual advisor, a psychic, a medium, a healer, and a psychic investigator.

Speaker: And the reason why I did that is because

Speaker: I feel like this work is so important.

Speaker: And I wanted to make sure that I had a much bigger view to be able to understand ethically, to be able to understand all the nuances of giving a message to someone because it is so significant.

Speaker: And how I got here just kind of makes it even more important in my life, I guess.

Speaker: I knew as a child that I could talk to people that were on the other side or that I knew information that not everybody knew.

Speaker: And so I was encouraged to shut that down.

Speaker: which I did.

Speaker: And it wasn't until I was around 20 that I had moved away from home and I was working in corporate America and someone came in and said, hey, do you want to see a medium this weekend?

Speaker: And I said, no, I'd rather just

Speaker: Yeah, great.

Speaker: What is a medium?

Speaker: Like that was just not on my college curriculum.

Speaker: So I ended up going to see this lady and the message that she gave to me, and that's been decades ago for me.

Speaker: It still is so clear in my mind what she said.

Speaker: I was familiar with the spirit she brought through, but I did not understand the message at all.

Speaker: So I was just enthralled with the whole situation.

Speaker: And then I delivered that message to the person that spirit said it belonged to.

Speaker: And it had a huge impact.

Speaker: So I realized then that it was real.

Speaker: It really worked.

Speaker: I just seen it from the other side.

Speaker: So here I am now.

Speaker: I could not tell you what I had for dinner last Wednesday, but I can tell you decades ago what that reading was like for me.

Speaker: So that's how I got here.

Speaker: Very pivotal moment, right?

Speaker: You're just kind of going about life.

Speaker: as normal.

Speaker: And then something like that happens to you.

Speaker: And I think it's particularly impactful when you're given a message and you're not sure that it applies to you at all, but you talk to a third party or somebody not even there.

Speaker: And it's this mind blowing piece of information.

Speaker: I mean, that is

Speaker: That's so significant.

Speaker: And what I really love about you too is because I feel like I am in a similar situation in my life now.

Speaker: I'm working in corporate America.

Speaker: I've worked my way up the corporate ladder, doing marketing, become an executive, done all these things.

Speaker: But there's

Speaker: something else calling me, right?

Speaker: I've lived a normal life for most of my life.

Speaker: And just knowing that something like this ability and like this world can completely change where you are from one minute to the next.

Speaker: So I see a lot of what I'm kind of feeling and going through now in your story.

Speaker: So that's one of the reasons I was super excited to have you on today.

Speaker: But yeah, I think one of the things that we were really going through when we first met was what's the best way to go about your learning path?

Speaker: I talked a little bit about how kind of unstructured everything sort of seemed.

Speaker: There didn't seem to be a clear path for one person or for, you know, a group of people, anything like that.

Speaker: And you started talking about mentorship and really having a specific person there to help you through.

Speaker: all of these different parts of your journey.

Speaker: Can you tell me, did you yourself get a mentor when you first started?

Speaker: How did you come about doing that yourself?

Speaker: I did get a mentor when I first started because I knew I could get the information, but I wasn't really clear on what to do with it.

Speaker: So I needed some sort of guidance to help me through that space.

Speaker: And how I did it, and I really recommend this to people, just you can go on now, you could go on YouTube, you can go anywhere, you can watch podcasts like this, you can watch all

Speaker: all kinds of classes now where they have all kinds of speakers and watch until you find somebody that you're like, oh, I kind of resonate with them.

Speaker: So for me, I went to an event and there were probably five of the biggest names in the industry at that time.

Speaker: And I knew three of them had, it was like an interview.

Speaker: And it should be because it's my job.

Speaker: It's my future.

Speaker: So I signed up for three short, quick classes with those three people just to get a feel for them.

Speaker: And I knew right away who

Speaker: who I was going to learn best from.

Speaker: Because then you have to put yourself in the receiving seat, right?

Speaker: So you could go to school through all your classes, you would know.

Speaker: Some teachers you learned a lot from and you really enjoyed and some you did not, right?

Speaker: Just had to get through the class and pass it, right?

Speaker: Yeah, so it matters.

Speaker: So I found the mentor for me at that point.

Speaker: And I have stuck with them the entire time.

Speaker: Now, what I do recommend when you're looking for a mentor is that you find one when you're new in this space and you stay with the mentor until you feel that

Speaker: like you're pretty well rounded in the space.

Speaker: You'll know.

Speaker: People say, well, how am I going to know that?

Speaker: Your mentor should be telling you that.

Speaker: They should be saying you are at this beautiful space now.

Speaker: You're really ready to launch.

Speaker: Wait with that first mentor until you're ready to really launch because we all use different words or we all have a different way of bringing in a spirit or of how to get the details or...

Speaker: how we work so if you get when you're brand new into the space with multiple mentors it's just going to be confusing because mary told you to do this but bob told you you're never going to feel complete so feel complete once you get past that then explore go find people that teach that niche class that you're really interested in or

Speaker: Whatever that looks like for you.

Speaker: You may stay, maybe like me.

Speaker: I pretty much have stayed with one the entire time.

Speaker: I still take a few random here and there, but my person has fit well for me.

Speaker: They teach how I learn.

Speaker: Right.

Speaker: When it fits, it fits.

Speaker: right?

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: And I think that's one of the things that I've noticed just in, like you said, watching things or like doing one-off workshops and all of that.

Speaker: That's where the confusion came in a little bit for me.

Speaker: Okay.

Speaker: Everybody seems to do this differently.

Speaker: Everybody's got a little bit of different terminology.

Speaker: And because this is such an individualized or individualistic sort of

Speaker: talent or, you know, thing that you do, it's not really possible to have a one size fits all class or course or college degree or something that you would see and something like I'm doing, like in marketing.

Speaker: Right.

Speaker: So I think that that becomes a stumbling block a lot of times.

Speaker: When you feel like you're getting an overload of information, some of it seems conflicting when really it's not conflicting.

Speaker: It's just different for different people and kind of making sense of that.

Speaker: And I think also knowing when you are getting success, right?

Speaker: And I think having somebody there to help create those goals for you is really important because for me, I feel like, okay, I can get messages.

Speaker: I can have this happen, but yeah,

Speaker: I really don't even know how to make it, you know, what to do to get to the next level or what to do with it when I get it.

Speaker: So I think actually creating goals just in general is super valuable because I know I didn't have any.

Speaker: A hundred percent.

Speaker: I agree with you.

Speaker: Plus it gives you that time with a community that's currently with that instructor, that mentor.

Speaker: And there's a foundation.

Speaker: feeling of community with them.

Speaker: So you go through it together.

Speaker: You're learning together.

Speaker: Instead of coming into a new instructor, you aren't sure anyway, you come into a new class and everybody else already knows their words.

Speaker: They already know their way of doing it.

Speaker: Everybody else is like, oh, I got this.

Speaker: I got this.

Speaker: It creates more self-doubt and self-doubt is the hardest thing to get through.

Speaker: Another reason why I think you said it very well, Amber, that it's so important to have a mentor that you can talk to one-on-one that can confirm for you.

Speaker: Because it's that confirmation of, yes, you've got this.

Speaker: Nobody, no lawyer, no doctor, no psychic, no medium is 100% every single day.

Speaker: Right.

Speaker: That's interesting that you say that.

Speaker: I've never thought about that.

Speaker: I guess there are days where it's a lot harder depending on how you feel, I can imagine.

Speaker: It's hard for how you are, where you're at.

Speaker: It's hard for where spirit's at and what they're coming through with.

Speaker: And don't forget, you've also got the sitter, the person that's receiving the message.

Speaker: So that's a whole lot of energy to be moving around.

Speaker: You really need to learn how to contain that energy and what to do with it.

Speaker: And every day it can be just a little bit different.

Speaker: Right.

Speaker: Right.

Speaker: And I think...

Speaker: one of the things that I've heard and I've also experienced myself is, uh, thinking that this is a repeatable thing, right?

Speaker: Like every day should be the same.

Speaker: I should be able to replicate this over and over again, the way that I would with technology or the way that I would with other things, um, that just have to do with modern life.

Speaker: Right.

Speaker: Um, and I think sitters and a lot of other people who aren't psychic mediums don't really understand that either.

Speaker: I think that there's, um,

Speaker: a demand for should you should be on point every time, every day, all the time.

Speaker: And when you're not, especially when you're new,

Speaker: that can really get at you.

Speaker: I feel like there's, I think there's a lot of doubt that can come with that because you see on TV, um, all of these polished episodes that have been edited and made perfect where they just sit down and they know the whole life story and they never have an off day.

Speaker: And, um, they just get, they walk into a grocery store and they know everybody's, you know, past loved ones and they're just on it.

Speaker: And it's Hollywood.

Speaker: Of course, they're going to pick out the best bits for people to see.

Speaker: There's a lot there that we don't see that I would love to demystify because I think that a lot of people stop this path because they don't feel like they're good enough or they compare to those kinds of people.

Speaker: So that's something that I'm really trying to work through.

Speaker: I agree with you.

Speaker: And the hardest part about what you just said is that when we think that

Speaker: that we don't know if we're good enough.

Speaker: When we think we might be ready to do the reading, when we think things might not go right, we're in our head.

Speaker: Yes.

Speaker: You can't be in your head in this space.

Speaker: So it's your corporate America background, like you said, very similar to mine.

Speaker: I come into a meeting.

Speaker: I've got a plan.

Speaker: I've got everything laid out.

Speaker: I've run it through Excel 10 ways.

Speaker: I know what's going to happen.

Speaker: If it goes this way, it's going this way.

Speaker: So when I started doing this work, it was very hard for me because I really couldn't prepare.

Speaker: I had the few things that I would do, but I had no idea if spirit was going to come through.

Speaker: I had no idea what the person was going to be like asking questions or receiving the message.

Speaker: Now I am.

Speaker: I just feel...

Speaker: a little, I don't know if the word is nervous or anxious or excited or butterflies or what that is before every reading.

Speaker: And I'm glad that it's there.

Speaker: And you should be glad that it's there because it means you care.

Speaker: It means you want to do your best.

Speaker: So instead of focusing on the negative of that, focus that as a positive because that means you care.

Speaker: That's very true.

Speaker: That is very true.

Speaker: And I feel a little bit like when you get excited like that, especially when you're going to sit for somebody who's going to sit for you and all of that, you have to let your mind be that place where the message can come through and clearing your mind and being able to, to,

Speaker: leave space for spirit.

Speaker: Very, very difficult.

Speaker: You know, it sounds easy, right?

Speaker: Oh, just clear your mind.

Speaker: But people like me, that's very hard to do.

Speaker: Very, very hard to do.

Speaker: I, you know, I hate that.

Speaker: Yeah, I have my job and my hobbies, but also three children and I do animal rescue.

Speaker: So I'm always thinking about everybody and everything all the time, which is why I think most of my experiences have been at nighttime when everybody's asleep.

Speaker: And I'm the only one because I'm not I don't have the pressures of those responsibilities or people asking things of me or whatever.

Speaker: So I think that that's another thing, too, that.

Speaker: is very difficult for some people.

Speaker: Now, when you're working with a mentor, I would assume that exercises or advice or whatever on these sorts of things is what you work on.

Speaker: Just for like a weekly or monthly or however your mentorship is structured, what does that look like?

Speaker: It's easy to say like in a mentor, but if it's online or in person, like what can that look like?

Speaker: How often do you meet?

Speaker: Or is it all really just dependent on you as a student?

Speaker: It is always dependent on you as a student because in a mentorship, it's just one-on-one.

Speaker: So it could go in any direction.

Speaker: You might come and you might be saying, I'm great at getting messages.

Speaker: I just want to build my business.

Speaker: Or you might be coming saying, oh my gosh, I think I saw someone standing at the foot of my bed last night and I have no idea what that was, who that was, or why that was.

Speaker: So I always start out with like a 15 minute conversation, just a free call.

Speaker: And I just visit with them because two things need to happen at that time.

Speaker: You need to get a feel for what your goals are and where you're at to make sure that I'm a good fit for you.

Speaker: And you need to have a conversation with me to see if I'm a good fit for you.

Speaker: Right.

Speaker: It's a two-way.

Speaker: It's a two-way.

Speaker: It is.

Speaker: It's a two-way street.

Speaker: When you trust someone with your learning at that point, that's really important.

Speaker: So in the way that I structure my mentorships, I only start with a five-package, a

Speaker: five, you can do it right now.

Speaker: Everybody does them once a week for five weeks.

Speaker: I do that because I don't want you to sign up for longer because at the end of those five weeks, you might say, oh, I've learned a whole new thing or I'm not too sure about this or I'm not too sure about my mentor, whatever that might look like.

Speaker: And then also it gives us just enough time to start with the building blocks.

Speaker: So if you're brand new in this space, we're going to go through, there's the clairvoyant, clairaudient.

Speaker: I don't really work with those words because nobody knows them.

Speaker: If you said to your sitter, oh, I'm clairvoyant, they're going to say, what?

Speaker: So you can say, I hear things, or I know things, or I smell things.

Speaker: I try to make sure that as readers that we're very relatable.

Speaker: So that's where I start is figuring out what your strengths are.

Speaker: And starting there, you might have never received a message, but if in that five-minute conversation you keep saying to me, I see, I see, I see, then I know you see.

Speaker: Right.

Speaker: That's where your strength is, even if you've never got a message before.

Speaker: So I know to step into that space by just listening in those moments and starting with a strength and then being able to build.

Speaker: We read my friends, my family, so that I can give feedback, so that I can help somebody.

Speaker: We're doing active in the class and some of it you're doing on your own.

Speaker: And then we're coming back into it.

Speaker: We try different tools.

Speaker: Some people feel more comfortable if they're using a deck of cards to help.

Speaker: Some people like a pendulum.

Speaker: So I guide people ultimately to not rely on the tools, but to have them there if they'd like them there.

Speaker: Sure.

Speaker: But I don't try to start off making huge changes.

Speaker: I try to always meet the person where they're at.

Speaker: I love that.

Speaker: And then also really to hear what it is they want.

Speaker: Because you may come to me and you may not want to talk to spirit.

Speaker: You may only want to do psychic readings.

Speaker: where you're talking about the here and now.

Speaker: So I need to be really clear on what you want and then help you work through by instead of feeding you with a fire hose, so to speak, where everything comes in, we start with where your strengths are in that space and then keep adding.

Speaker: Some people move through different sections really quickly.

Speaker: It's easy.

Speaker: They grasp it.

Speaker: The concept goes well.

Speaker: And then sometimes not so much.

Speaker: So we just spend more time to focus on that.

Speaker: So it sounds very individualized.

Speaker: So it would be different from like a college course that kind of either pick it up or fail.

Speaker: Right.

Speaker: And I'm one teacher against 30 students and this is how I'm teaching it.

Speaker: So thinking of another thing that I want to cover is what to look for, for like what we quote unquote a good mentor.

Speaker: Would you say that it's really important that the person that you pick is really seeing you and building what they're doing with you around your strengths and they're really getting to know you and almost was kind of like dating you a little bit.

Speaker: That way they know where you need the support.

Speaker: because I myself have done some research on mentorship before I started this podcast.

Speaker: And some of it does look like, okay, well, I'm a mentor, but I have this workbook and I'm just going to give you the workbook.

Speaker: And that's what we do, right?

Speaker: Like every week we move on to the next one, we move on to the next one.

Speaker: You've only paid for eight weeks with me.

Speaker: So we have to get to the end of this book by the eight weeks sort of thing.

Speaker: But it sounds like it makes more sense for you to spend as much time as you need

Speaker: on each section and decide from there what works best.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: What if you're already at chapter three in their book?

Speaker: Or what if your goal is not chapter eight?

Speaker: To me, that's the whole concept of mentorship.

Speaker: I have a huge list.

Speaker: There's probably a hundred things on there that talk about using the different senses, using the different tools, whether you're focused on mediumship or psychic work or healing in this space.

Speaker: Because psychic and mediumship can be very healing when we receive the messages.

Speaker: But some people want to do, they find that they're, I did not think that I was a healer when I really went into this space.

Speaker: But what I found is that I have a huge draw now towards healing.

Speaker: So you're going by class three, you may say to me, okay, I've done enough psychic work.

Speaker: This is not what I want to do.

Speaker: I really just want to connect with spirit on the other side.

Speaker: I want to do mediumship.

Speaker: Well, I don't think it would be fair for me to say, too bad.

Speaker: You started on psychic and we're only going to do psychic.

Speaker: It's your class.

Speaker: And when you're picking a mentor, I think that if you're coming into this space, you're already energetically tuned in.

Speaker: And so whether you want to admit it or not, you kind of get a gut feeling for people, right?

Speaker: Like I knew I liked you as soon as you popped up on the screen.

Speaker: I knew it, right?

Speaker: I didn't, I have never met you before.

Speaker: Maybe I've met you in a prior life, but I knew that I was not going to need a script to get through this.

Speaker: I knew you and I were going to be able to have a conversation.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: And that's how you want to feel with that person who's going to mentor you.

Speaker: You want to be able to feel free to say, I'm not getting this.

Speaker: How can you help me?

Speaker: I would rather do this.

Speaker: I'd like to try that.

Speaker: And the

Speaker: other thing that I think is so, so significant is that you have a base for testimonials or referrals, somebody who's been connected to that person in some way for, that will also help you work through the ethical side because ethics are so significant in this space.

Speaker: And it's a,

Speaker: if they're ethical, they're going to always work with you.

Speaker: Right.

Speaker: Right.

Speaker: And I think that what you said is so significant and it might actually be the first little lesson for you to learn trusting your intuition and that, that gift, you know, that journey on the psychic path or your mediumship path is picking your mentor, right?

Speaker: Like if you have that gut feeling of this is right, or this is wrong, um,

Speaker: to really trust that, I think, because in marketing myself, I know that on online spaces, especially certain people can make themselves look really, really great.

Speaker: And they might really be great.

Speaker: But to just use that as your measuring stick on whether or not they're going to be a good medium

Speaker: mediumship mentor for you might not be the best way, really.

Speaker: Like we were working in an energetic path that's so important to what we're doing.

Speaker: It's almost like your initiation a little bit into it.

Speaker: Okay, your mentor, we're going to learn to trust your gut.

Speaker: This is the first lesson, right?

Speaker: Yep, absolutely.

Speaker: Now, I will say, too, that there's, you know, right now, all of my classes are fully booked.

Speaker: So I don't have anything on my schedule for classes that open.

Speaker: They won't open until September.

Speaker: But there are classes available, too.

Speaker: And, of course, that's always at a different price point.

Speaker: But if you're going to go take a class from someone...

Speaker: The other things that I would say on top of feeling that you could connect with them in that mentorship way is to understand what that class is.

Speaker: Now, in that situation, if you sign up for Psychic 101 and it says we're going to do this, this, this, this.

Speaker: then that's what it is you're gonna work through, right?

Speaker: So in a class situation, it is a little bit different than in a one-on-one mentorship.

Speaker: And sometimes I think classes are great for people.

Speaker: Because it gives you that drinking water at the water fountain, which most people probably know what that is anymore, but the water cooler, whatever, that it gives you that ability to have those conversations, to know, because it's such a significant part when you're new, especially, is convincing your brain that you're still safe.

Speaker: Right, right.

Speaker: Yeah, that's a good way to...

Speaker: you know, meet people and to actually have those interactions and to know whether or not that works for you.

Speaker: It's kind of like a, could be the first step or the first baby step towards working with somebody more comprehensively.

Speaker: Yep, absolutely.

Speaker: Absolutely.

Speaker: Because our brains say, you're going to talk to somebody that's not existing over here.

Speaker: This is not normal.

Speaker: And our brains are so geared to keep us safe that if there's a fire on this side of me and the only way out is a 10-story window on this side of me, my brain says, you're going to leap.

Speaker: You're going to fly.

Speaker: I'll figure it out.

Speaker: But I'm going to save you.

Speaker: And the only way to save you right now is to jump out that window.

Speaker: So, I mean, our brain will do anything to keep us safe.

Speaker: So the more we're around it and the more we're having that conversation and that interaction, the other thing I encourage people to do is there's a lot of people call them circles.

Speaker: That's what I call them.

Speaker: That would be a common word in the industry where you can...

Speaker: Get one-on-one mentorship, get your own development, but then practice with people.

Speaker: It gives you that ability to just go in and out of Zoom rooms and practice and get feedback because that feedback helps us too.

Speaker: It helps us to grow.

Speaker: It helps us to become more secure in what we're doing.

Speaker: It helps us to learn how we're receiving messages.

Speaker: Right.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: And one of the things that I've really, from the few episodes that I've done is that mediumship is very experiential, right?

Speaker: Like you can talk about theory, you can talk about how things are done, but really kind of have to jump in and it just, it's finding the safe places where you can do your first readings, where you're not, you know, feeling like

Speaker: you're going to upset somebody or you're not going to do well because everybody in that space knows that you're there to practice, knows that, you know, that you're, that you're all learning or that you're all exercising that part of your brain.

Speaker: So it's okay to maybe nothing shows up or maybe something is wrong or you're still working through it.

Speaker: It's better than, you know, going and trying to just give readings or sell readings right away.

Speaker: I think the ethics start to come in there that, you know, if you're starting to read for people,

Speaker: and they don't know that you're practicing or they don't know that you're new, that's where it gets a little murky.

Speaker: But circles, I think, are wonderful.

Speaker: And you mentioned Zoom rooms.

Speaker: And I think that that's something very important for the audience to know as well, because here in the United States, especially like in the Midwest and everything, a lot of our listeners, they don't really have physical places to go or people near them.

Speaker: where they can meet in person and have a mentor that they can see.

Speaker: And I think there's this idea that you can't learn as well or that it's not available to you.

Speaker: Would you say that having online interactions or online circles or mentorship, that that's as effective as an in-person sort of mentorship?

Speaker: I think that COVID did for this industry a wonderful thing.

Speaker: Really?

Speaker: Changed it.

Speaker: Like it changed everything, of course.

Speaker: I think what happened was that we, no one ever tried it this way.

Speaker: No one ever tried it on Zoom.

Speaker: So, you know, five years ago or however long it's been now, you wouldn't even know.

Speaker: People would say, oh, I don't even know what Zoom is probably is where that one was.

Speaker: You think, oh, I can't, it's Zoom.

Speaker: You can't do that.

Speaker: But why are we putting limits on Zoom?

Speaker: how spirit can reach us.

Speaker: And yeah, my theory on that is that the ways that it has changed it is one, it's opened it up.

Speaker: So we can go to any medium anywhere that we're drawn to or any psychic.

Speaker: So if we're going for a reading, we now have a worldwide opportunity, quite literally, to find the right person for us.

Speaker: Same if we're looking for a mentor, a teacher in that respect.

Speaker: And then when it comes to doing a reading with someone, so much of that, we just talked about it, is energy.

Speaker: So my spirit's energy is like,

Speaker: way up here, right?

Speaker: So spirit needs to come down for us and we need to come up to get the spirit energetically.

Speaker: So if you are getting a reading from me and you're at home and you haven't had to worry about, you got your sweatpants on, who cares?

Speaker: Put a necklace on, everything looks good.

Speaker: You haven't had to fight traffic.

Speaker: You haven't had to find a babysitter for four hours.

Speaker: All of those things that we think about, you can do it in the convenience of your own home where you know you're comfortable, not in a stranger's place.

Speaker: That instinctively makes your energy come up.

Speaker: So when your energy comes up and my energy comes up, it makes this connection so much easier.

Speaker: I never thought about it that way, but yeah, there's these additional obstacles.

Speaker: I mean, I've of course thought about that in my working life because I work remotely now.

Speaker: It's like, oh, I don't, I'm not spending three hours every day in traffic.

Speaker: I'm not having to, you know, eat out for lunch.

Speaker: You know, when I forget my, my lunchbox, I, you know, I don't have to dress up in clothes every day that are uncomfortable and how much better that's made just my job.

Speaker: Um, imagine what it does for, for a mediumship.

Speaker: I think that that's amazing.

Speaker: And I'll be honest, when I first started hearing about it, I was skeptical.

Speaker: I was like, I don't see how that could work.

Speaker: I mean, I don't, what do you mean?

Speaker: That doesn't seem right.

Speaker: But I've experienced it.

Speaker: I've seen it.

Speaker: And it was a really wonderful experience, you know?

Speaker: And I think that there's a lot to say about that.

Speaker: So for the audience or people that are listening, they have a lot more options available to them.

Speaker: And I love that.

Speaker: I love that there is now opportunity for people who could be wonderful psychics and wonderful mediums and do this healing work.

Speaker: They have it available to them because I think that for a long time, people wouldn't go and they wouldn't like work on their gifts.

Speaker: They wouldn't try for this because they feel like they'd be living on an island a little bit.

Speaker: I've had a lot of listeners talk about that.

Speaker: So that's awesome to hear.

Speaker: Now, one thing I do want to get to before we get to the end of the episode is red flags.

Speaker: Is there anything in particular for you?

Speaker: that you would advise to look into, right?

Speaker: If so, if we're looking for a mentor and we're doing some research and all of that, are there things that we should look for to keep ourselves safe, first of all, and also to make sure that we're going to somebody who's reputable, who's going to really put their energy, you know, in a good way into us as novices?

Speaker: And I mean, there's a lot of

Speaker: ways that I think students could be preyed upon.

Speaker: So I would just like to hear from you if there's anything that should really be watched out for.

Speaker: That's a really, really great question.

Speaker: I think, Amber, what I would say about that is the first thing is, is use your gut.

Speaker: Right.

Speaker: The intuition again, right?

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: That's the biggest thing because that's even greater than I think that person might not be ethical.

Speaker: It's also, I think I might connect with that person or not connect with that person.

Speaker: You wouldn't think that your intuition would connect you with somebody who's not ethical, right?

Speaker: It's about trusting.

Speaker: I can because...

Speaker: like you said, I could be all show right now.

Speaker: I could sit here.

Speaker: I could have, you don't, you know, you don't know.

Speaker: A psychic catfish.

Speaker: Exactly right.

Speaker: So I think that that's important.

Speaker: I think that a mentor should work with you in your space.

Speaker: I feel strongly that if you're doing one-on-one mentorship, that

Speaker: that they should have a lot of options.

Speaker: They might have a game plan, but I would always look for flexibility in there because you're going, each individual is going to move through that path at their own rate.

Speaker: And,

Speaker: I'd also look for someone that is more established.

Speaker: And by that, I mean that they have a visibility.

Speaker: It doesn't have to be a million-dollar website, but there is visibility and that people can put

Speaker: testimonials on some places that aren't necessarily good.

Speaker: So that could be on Google or on Facebook.

Speaker: Out of their control.

Speaker: So not your website, because the website, you can cherry pick which ones you want to put on there.

Speaker: Exactly.

Speaker: Yep.

Speaker: I think that another thing that's really important is to understand how the person works.

Speaker: I would say, can I get, I have a handful of my students that say, give out my name and my email address anytime.

Speaker: I'm willing to talk to them.

Speaker: Some people aren't that way.

Speaker: Some people haven't come out of the closet, right?

Speaker: Mm-hmm.

Speaker: So you're a little bit more reserved in that space, but having an opportunity to speak with someone that's been through a part of the process is

Speaker: And asking them one-on-one, I mean, really, is it really like this?

Speaker: I mean, exactly what should I expect where that person is not going to know what your questions are or what your goal is or what your curiosity is.

Speaker: And they're just going to come to you with how it is.

Speaker: I think that's important to speak with someone to see what their experience was.

Speaker: I think it's good to watch people's social media.

Speaker: I

Speaker: helps us get a gut feeling, but it can certainly be controlled.

Speaker: Do I act like every TikTok video I've ever put out?

Speaker: No, I don't.

Speaker: Have I had a bad day?

Speaker: Yes, I have.

Speaker: But I think that it starts to give you a feel for what's important for that person.

Speaker: Right.

Speaker: Very true.

Speaker: And to be able to see things there.

Speaker: I also look for things that you

Speaker: I would say also just how they answer comments on their posts or how they interact with people who are on their social media and things.

Speaker: I think that's another way you can kind of get an idea.

Speaker: Absolutely.

Speaker: And if you've got somebody who's always right and you're always wrong or who speaks down to their person in social media,

Speaker: That's, you know, like they say about dating, when someone shows you their true self, you have to believe that.

Speaker: So those are all ways that you can look for more information on people.

Speaker: Yeah, absolutely.

Speaker: I think it's very important to kind of do your due diligence and trust yourself as well.

Speaker: And I would also say just instinctively myself that if you start a mentorship with somebody and it starts to not feel right,

Speaker: to be honest with yourself about that as well.

Speaker: And it might just be something as simple as letting the mentor know like, hey, maybe I'd, you know, being vocal, right?

Speaker: Like I want to focus more on this area, letting them know how you're feeling through the process.

Speaker: And I think it's important for the mentor as well.

Speaker: I would imagine if you're going to be creating like a curriculum or whatever around that person's needs, that they need to be open and telling you

Speaker: In particular, like, hey, I'm more interested in this or this isn't working for me or, you know, like you said, the energies go both ways, both ways.

Speaker: Once you're 100% correct, once you're committed to doing some form of a mentorship with someone, then your responsibility really grows.

Speaker: Right.

Speaker: It grows all through your voice.

Speaker: And your mentor every single time should be having communication with you on not just giving you things, but listening to what's happening.

Speaker: So like I work on an app in between our meetings.

Speaker: It's called Voxer.

Speaker: It's intentional because it has no audio.

Speaker: It's I'm sorry, it has no video.

Speaker: It's just audio.

Speaker: So I you have to listen.

Speaker: Right.

Speaker: So if you say I'm stuck on this and this is what happened, this is how it happened.

Speaker: I'm not sure how to get through this.

Speaker: I'm not also looking at your nice necklace and at your telescope and at your I'm only hearing what it is.

Speaker: Plus, it makes us talk more in snippets.

Speaker: So instead of telling a whole long story, some people still tell a whole long story, but it helps us to kind of focus on exactly what it is.

Speaker: And that helps mentor to understand exactly what it is and where you're stuck.

Speaker: The better you can use your words to explain those things, the more success you're going to have with your mentor.

Speaker: Yeah, absolutely.

Speaker: Yeah, I think that there's a part of that where you can have a mentor, but you also need to be very present in that process because, you know, they can't force you or make you into a good psychic medium.

Speaker: It's got to be a partnership, which I think is really important to remember.

Speaker: I definitely want to talk a little bit more about what you have going on and also resources that the listeners can look into.

Speaker: I always like to leave anybody that's watching or listening with a rabbit hole they can go down if they want to know more or ways to reach out to you, you know, if they feel drawn to you in particular.

Speaker: So I guess I'll break this up in a couple of questions first.

Speaker: What sort of resources do you recommend personally as far as outside of mentorship, as far as books or workshops or circles, anything like that?

Speaker: What do you think would be one of the first things that you would recommend for somebody who's really new to this?

Speaker: I would recommend, you'll think this is crazy, and I haven't even thought about this, but it is what I would recommend.

Speaker: I would recommend that you look around you.

Speaker: This is free.

Speaker: I would recommend that you look around you and find some object.

Speaker: And ask someone, ask a friend, ask a family member to give you a name of someone that you have no familiarity with.

Speaker: and then use the object to read the person.

Speaker: Because you're going to give yourself some confidence doing that.

Speaker: And giving yourself confidence is going to help you when you go to look for a mentor or somebody else.

Speaker: What happens is we become so mentally, visually geared towards the object that we pick up the object and say, okay, read Bob.

Speaker: The person says Bob.

Speaker: And I would say, Bob's a little bit...

Speaker: hard on the outside, but he's kind of a big softy on the inside.

Speaker: Bob's in the middle of a big growth pattern because if I turn this, Bob's growing.

Speaker: So I'm reading Bob's energy through an object and it's going to help you to get out of your head.

Speaker: And then it's going to help to build your confidence because if you go into looking for the best thing for you and you don't have confidence, you're going to talk yourself out of it every time.

Speaker: Interesting.

Speaker: Yeah, I absolutely think that that's great, right?

Speaker: Like you can start doing stuff yourself or with your friends and your family before you go and look for somebody else.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: And I think the confidence part too, like we said, the first little thing that you need to do is trust your intuition about who you're picking.

Speaker: I would then say, look for people that like, just start watching videos.

Speaker: You can put psychic medium into any of the social media platforms.

Speaker: Watch some videos.

Speaker: Start to learn about them and look at their website and look for mentorship opportunities.

Speaker: They might not have them if you feel drawn to them.

Speaker: I don't keep mine on my main page because it's not for everybody, right?

Speaker: I can't just have everybody sign up.

Speaker: I need to know that you and I connect.

Speaker: It's a very important thing for me.

Speaker: So you can reach out to people.

Speaker: You can then...

Speaker: look for somebody who has a free call because you need to interview them.

Speaker: Right?

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: You need to interview them.

Speaker: That's you're hiring an employee for you.

Speaker: That's an interesting way to put it too.

Speaker: And I think that even thinking about the questions you'd like to ask them beforehand as well, right?

Speaker: Like if you're hiring for an employee, what's important for this employee to have?

Speaker: Well, sit down and intentionally think about

Speaker: what's important for me in my mentor, right?

Speaker: If you're more interested in just psychic stuff, or if you're more interested in mediumship stuff, you're already creating the questions that help you get to the right person, right?

Speaker: Help you get to the right avenues to get to them.

Speaker: So I like the intentionality of that for sure.

Speaker: Definitely.

Speaker: And some people have no idea, and that's totally good too.

Speaker: But you also want to make sure that they can communicate with you during that process.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: Because if they can't help to guide you sort of to split it all open, to give you some direction, are they really going to be able to communicate well with you during your mentorship?

Speaker: Right, right.

Speaker: And a lot of it just comes down to different communication styles, right?

Speaker: Right.

Speaker: Some people click better with other people.

Speaker: It's not one, you're not a difficult student and they might not be a bad mentor.

Speaker: It just might not be a good pairing.

Speaker: And I think that that's important to keep in mind as well.

Speaker: Definitely.

Speaker: Awesome.

Speaker: Well, tell us a little bit about what you offer the community.

Speaker: If you have any classes that are coming up or what sort of offerings that you have as a psychic, as a medium, as a healer.

Speaker: So first, I would say if you're interested in growth in some way or looking for opportunities, because it's where I run my specials, my coupons, my whatever's going on, it's also where I first launch all of my classes is my newsletter.

Speaker: So you can go to karenromine.com.

Speaker: and it's K-A-R-E-N-R-O-M-I-N-E.com, and get on my newsletter.

Speaker: That's the place where everything's going to come out.

Speaker: I do have mentorship availability this year.

Speaker: So there are still programs that I have that are coming up, and I'll be happy to share that link with you, and you can put it with your podcast out there if people are interested in

Speaker: signing up for a free call with me to just explore.

Speaker: Maybe you've heard this for the first time and you're like, oh, I never really even thought about that.

Speaker: Then set up a free call and let's just chat about where you're at.

Speaker: Maybe I can give you some other guidance or some insight just in a 15 minute call.

Speaker: So I would really encourage people to do that.

Speaker: I think that's a good opportunity for people.

Speaker: And then classes will be relaunching again in September.

Speaker: There will be a beginning psychic class, a beginning mediumship class, and a beginning healer class that will all be launching.

Speaker: They'll all be out in my newsletters in September.

Speaker: Awesome.

Speaker: So it sounds like the newsletter is really kind of the hub for information.

Speaker: They can sign up for that.

Speaker: I'll have all of the links of everything we've talked about in the description of this episode as well.

Speaker: There's also some little goodies in there for you listeners.

Speaker: If you are interested in reaching out and speaking with Karen, you could definitely reach out to me if you have any additional questions or Karen, I'll have all of her social media and website links there as well.

Speaker: And I really appreciate you coming on today.

Speaker: I think this is a really important foundational episode, especially after you're sure as a novice or student that this is what you want to do.

Speaker: You already know, okay, this is my path.

Speaker: If you have that set in stone, this is kind of that next step, right?

Speaker: Okay, well, if I know this is what I want to do, how do I get there?

Speaker: And having somebody experienced is so important, I think.

Speaker: And I really appreciate you kind of sharing your wisdom on that.

Speaker: And anybody who is out there listening to this episode, I hope that you guys got some value from it and you're thinking your next steps in your mind and where you can go and how you can find your way.

Speaker: But thank you so much for coming with us.

Speaker: And we appreciate having you here on the Psychic Apprentice.

Speaker: Thanks for what you're doing.

Speaker: And thanks for having me.

Speaker: Absolutely.
