Transcript

Speaker: Welcome to the Solarpreneur Podcast where we teach you to take your solar business to the next level.

Speaker: My name is Taylor Armstrong and I went from $50 in my bank account and struggling for groceries to closing 150 deals in a year and cracking the code on why sales reps fell.

Speaker: I teach you how to avoid the mistakes I made and bring in the top solar dogs of the industry to let you in on the secrets of generating more leads, falling up like a pro and closing more deals.

Speaker: What is a solopreneur you might ask?

Speaker: A solopreneur is a new breed of solopro that is willing to do whatever it takes to achieve mastery and you are about to become one.

Speaker: Hey, what's going on, solarpreneurs?

Speaker: We are going to be previewing Door-to-DoorCon coming up right around the corner here.

Speaker: If you have not got your tickets yet, go grab them.

Speaker: This is your last chance.

Speaker: The discount code that we're throwing out for our listeners is Armstrong20.

Speaker: You can get 20% off your Door-to-DoorCon tickets.

Speaker: Hope to see you there.

Speaker: But we're going to be talking all things Door-to-DoorCon, which is one of my favorite events of the year.

Speaker: and give you a little preview what to expect.

Speaker: If it's your first time, tell you who you should see.

Speaker: If you're coming back, review some speakers.

Speaker: And yeah, I think you'll like it.

Speaker: So let's get into it.

Speaker: My name is Taylor Armstrong.

Speaker: We're here to help you close more deals, generate more leads and referrals, and have a much better time in the solar industry.

Speaker: And we switched the order up a little bit.

Speaker: I hope you enjoyed last podcast.

Speaker: We had Will Darlene.

Speaker: This guy is a beast of a closer.

Speaker: So if you've not listened to that episode, go check it out.

Speaker: It was absolute fire and got a lot of great feedback about it.

Speaker: But we switched up a little bit because I wanted to do this preview episode right before Door to DoorCon came around.

Speaker: So we're going to jump into some of the speakers.

Speaker: I'll tell you who I'm going to be going to.

Speaker: And yeah, hopefully it'll help you plan for the event because that's one thing I've learned after going to so many of these events.

Speaker: I think this is my, I want to say fifth Door-to-DoorCon.

Speaker: Yeah, I think there's been seven door to door cons that maybe missed one or two.

Speaker: So yeah, this will be door to door con seven, I believe.

Speaker: So yeah, I've been to quite a few of these.

Speaker: They're awesome.

Speaker: And hopefully I can shed some light if you have not been to as many as I have.

Speaker: Okay, so let's jump into it.

Speaker: First, it's going to be three days.

Speaker: The first day is the VIP day.

Speaker: And looks like on the schedule really is just, I guess, VIP evening, I should say, because on Thursday, there is a basketball and soccer tournament.

Speaker: And I've thought about doing that, but basketball and soccer.

Speaker: I'm very mediocre at both those sports.

Speaker: I actually like basketball a lot, but I'm not the greatest at it.

Speaker: I wish there was like a jujitsu tournament because that's that's the sport I'm going hard in right now.

Speaker: But that's the day one.

Speaker: And then you got some VIP events in the evening.

Speaker: I'm actually not going to those this year.

Speaker: Got some other stuff.

Speaker: So if you were going, let me know how it goes.

Speaker: Would love to hear if you thought it was worth the money.

Speaker: And yeah, what you thought of the speaker and networking that they're doing there on the VIP day one.

Speaker: So really, we're going to focus on the main meat of the event, which is Friday and Saturday, the 26th and 27th.

Speaker: So the featured speakers this year, you got Kent Clothier.

Speaker: I think I'm saying his name right.

Speaker: Actually, I had never heard of him before this.

Speaker: Maybe I'm living under a rock.

Speaker: You got Chris Voss.

Speaker: You got Sean White.

Speaker: And you got Sam Taggart, of course.

Speaker: Count him as the main guy.

Speaker: And you got Lance Armstrong and Sean...

Speaker: Sean, what did I say?

Speaker: Sean White.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: Anyways, those are the main guys.

Speaker: So I would definitely recommend checking out all of them.

Speaker: They're going to be, I think, great speakers.

Speaker: I've actually never heard any of them speak.

Speaker: But Kent Clothier, he starts us out.

Speaker: And if you've not heard of this guy, I did a little bit of research in preparing for this podcast.

Speaker: He is a real estate guy.

Speaker: Looks like he teaches people like wholesaling and then also just investing in real estate with your door-to-door money.

Speaker: So should be good.

Speaker: Always interested in door-to-door or in real estate.

Speaker: But the person I am probably maybe more excited about than any other speaker at this event is Chris Voss.

Speaker: And that's at 1130.

Speaker: This guy is...

Speaker: I've never seen him speak live, but I have watched a lot of YouTube videos of him.

Speaker: I've, of course, read his book, Never Split the Difference, which I recommend to every new rep and really anyone in door-to-door.

Speaker: I think it's absolutely phenomenal.

Speaker: I've actually mentioned it many times in the podcast, just his two techniques that I use all the time when I'm setting appointments and in deals are mirroring and labeling.

Speaker: I think he's definitely going to be touching on those, hopefully expounding on them, telling them about how we can use these in sales.

Speaker: Because his book, it's not necessarily, it is, you know, sales focus.

Speaker: But what's going to be cool about seeing him at this event is he is going to, I assume, focus everything, gear everything towards the door-to-door crowd and talk about how we can actually apply the concepts he talks about in his books to door-to-door, which will be really awesome, I think.

Speaker: Okay, and then from there, we get into the workshops.

Speaker: And the downside this year, for whatever reason,

Speaker: They did not put on the website who the speakers at the workshops were going to be.

Speaker: I know, weird, right?

Speaker: A little bit frustrating.

Speaker: I would like to see who the speakers are for the workshops because that definitely influences who I'm going to go check out.

Speaker: They did put the speakers, but they didn't put who was actually speaking at which workshop.

Speaker: It just has a whole speaker list on there.

Speaker: So I did do a little bit of guessing.

Speaker: I have heard a lot of these guys.

Speaker: So I think I have a...

Speaker: okay idea of who might be doing which topic, at least for the solar related ones.

Speaker: But yeah, would have been nice to know.

Speaker: So at 2pm, there are looks like six different workshops.

Speaker: And I'm not going to go through every single one of these.

Speaker: But the one that I'm going to be going to out of these ones, you got a solar cells pitch training.

Speaker: We're focusing on solar, so a lot of these probably, if you just pick the one that says solar next to it, probably not going to go wrong.

Speaker: But we got pitch training, and from the speaker lineup that I saw on the website, my best guess who might be doing this pitch training is

Speaker: is could it possibly be Johnny Graham?

Speaker: Hey, he is our fellow YouTuber, RealSalesDynamics.

Speaker: This guy is awesome.

Speaker: He's someone that I didn't see on any of the panels.

Speaker: So I don't know.

Speaker: That's my best guess is he may be doing the pitch training, which if you don't subscribe to that channel, it's one of my go-to YouTube channels.

Speaker: RealSalesDynamics is awesome.

Speaker: They do like presentation breakdowns and stuff.

Speaker: uh yeah pitch training so maybe it's him and then at three o'clock um again a few different workshops the one that's i'm gonna be checking out is the solar ceo workshop on here you got josh shetherland john frampton jake kilgore bell barrage barrage am i saying his name right and mark bench

Speaker: I know a little bit on here.

Speaker: Val Barachet, he is Michael O'Donnell's partner over at Sun Solar Solutions.

Speaker: This guy is awesome.

Speaker: John Frampton, definitely going to want to hear what this cat has to say.

Speaker: He led SolarCity.

Speaker: He was over, I think, all of SolarCity.

Speaker: All the cells are up at SolarCity, I believe.

Speaker: Hey, but definitely knows the stuff.

Speaker: Josh Sutherland's he's over running a titanium.

Speaker: He knows how to build up an organization, even though titanium, you know, they I'm not not going to say too much on that, but had a few issues with some of their installs when I used them out here.

Speaker: But obviously they're building like crazy.

Speaker: So worth hearing what these guys have to say.

Speaker: And then at four, you got the solar cells panel.

Speaker: All right.

Speaker: Three different ones.

Speaker: And you guys can go on the website, look at all of these.

Speaker: But just to not, you know, go over every single little workshop going on here, I'm going to keep it concise to the ones I think you should probably check out the ones that are solar focused.

Speaker: So on the solar sales panel, you got Chase Hermanson.

Speaker: I'm actually don't know him.

Speaker: You got my boy Ashton Buswell.

Speaker: Love Buzz and have had many chances to interact with Ashton.

Speaker: This guy is definitely one of my role models in solar.

Speaker: You got Ty Segan.

Speaker: He's come on the podcast once before.

Speaker: Definitely one of our most popular podcasts we've done.

Speaker: You got Sam Manley.

Speaker: This guy came on the podcast recently, but he is closing insane amounts of deals over there at Spartan Solar.

Speaker: So you definitely want to hear what this guy is doing.

Speaker: You can go listen to his podcast if you haven't already.

Speaker: And then you got Luke Ward, which I think I've met Luke, but I don't know him.

Speaker: All right.

Speaker: So I think that's going to be a great panel.

Speaker: I would definitely recommend going and checking out that, having your questions ready.

Speaker: And that's the thing, guys.

Speaker: Go with your questions ready.

Speaker: Sometimes you go to these events.

Speaker: I make this mistake a lot of times when I go to events is I don't go with necessarily questions in mind, things I want to learn.

Speaker: So if you can go thinking, OK, what are some takeaways?

Speaker: What are my biggest questions that I want to get answered at this event?

Speaker: Who are the people I want to network with?

Speaker: What are the skills I want to improve?

Speaker: What are the areas that I need improvement on, whether it's recruiting, whether it's leadership, whether it's selling?

Speaker: Right.

Speaker: So think what are the purposes behind you going to the event?

Speaker: Because if you're just going to go, then it's not going to be as good.

Speaker: And a lot of times I go to go and don't get as much out of the event.

Speaker: So keep that in mind as you are going to these different workshops and as you are seeing these different speakers.

Speaker: Hey, and then let's move on to day two or three, just depending on if you're counting on counting the first VIP evening.

Speaker: Day three starts right off the bat with the workshops.

Speaker: And this is the one I always feel bad for the workshop speakers because I've got I've probably been to half of these, you know, half half the door to door guns I've gone into this morning.

Speaker: lineup of workshops.

Speaker: And let me tell you, they are, are slow in numbers.

Speaker: I don't know what the saying is.

Speaker: There's not too many people to go to these.

Speaker: And a big reason is because if you look at the schedule, Sam has scheduled the VIP after party Friday nights.

Speaker: And this thing is going half the night people are probably going to stand up, you know, hitting this sack one or two in the morning.

Speaker: So it's like, OK, it's going to be a little bit tough to get people up.

Speaker: It is at 930.

Speaker: I think a few years it's been even like 830 or nine.

Speaker: But still, hopefully people will show up to these because I think there are some good things going on Saturday.

Speaker: And this one I'm actually really excited about.

Speaker: You got a recruiting panel.

Speaker: You got Chris Underwood, Luke Miseko, I think, Will Ellermitz, Tom Caron, Alex Smith.

Speaker: That is definitely some heavy hitters of recruiting.

Speaker: Specifically, I know Will Ellermitz.

Speaker: You probably know him from the Snapper Academy.

Speaker: He is also killing it on YouTube.

Speaker: Watch a lot of his videos, a lot of his content.

Speaker: Tom Caron, he's one of the OGs in the industry.

Speaker: He did his bandage pest control thing.

Speaker: Now he's over it.

Speaker: I think he's one of the co-founders of Aveo Solar.

Speaker: Knows how to just run a company or recruit hordes of people.

Speaker: Then Alex Smith.

Speaker: What can you not love about this guy?

Speaker: He's got a six-pack.

Speaker: He's partnered up with Andy Elliott.

Speaker: just blowing things up with Spartan Solar.

Speaker: This guy knows how to recruit people, bottom line.

Speaker: So if you are wanting to sharpen your recruiting skills, I would definitely recommend checking out that recruiting panel.

Speaker: Hey, and then a couple more workshops here.

Speaker: These last two workshops, we don't get a ton of information.

Speaker: So I'm sure we will hopefully get a little bit more once we arrive to the event.

Speaker: But 1030, you got a women's panel, which always great.

Speaker: You know, we got to support our ladies in door to door.

Speaker: And I know that's I've gotten some criticism at times for being too male focused on the podcast.

Speaker: So for all my lady listeners.

Speaker: I love you.

Speaker: Thanks for tuning into this show.

Speaker: And I try to keep it, you know, inspiring and just valuable for whatever gender, whatever you want to call yourself.

Speaker: But love the one.

Speaker: We've had a few of them on the podcast and the women panel this year.

Speaker: I know for sure you got our girl, Suli.

Speaker: She's going to be on the panel.

Speaker: She has been on the podcast with us.

Speaker: She absolutely crushes.

Speaker: And it looks like I lost my tab that had it.

Speaker: But Suli for sure is going to be on it.

Speaker: No, there's it's always a good time hanging out at the woman's panel because these ladies, I think they bring a different aspect to ourselves.

Speaker: And I don't think you have to be a woman to go to the panel.

Speaker: Okay.

Speaker: So check it out.

Speaker: But the other one at 1030, if you do like real estate, someone that I've been following for a while, this one is called Nakanami.

Speaker: And it's how to take your money earned from the doors and invest its

Speaker: indoors.

Speaker: This one, I'm guessing it's going to be doing there's a few different real estate people come in to door to door con.

Speaker: But my guess is this could be Dwayne Richens.

Speaker: He is a guy that's sold alarms door to door for a long time.

Speaker: And then he transitioned to real estate, knocking doors for real estate.

Speaker: And he's, you know, crushing it in that.

Speaker: So that's my guess.

Speaker: And 1130, there's not too much info about the panels for 1130.

Speaker: So that one's to be determined.

Speaker: Okay, but I wanted to make a special invitation.

Speaker: If you are going to door to door con,

Speaker: Right around this time on Saturday, we are planning a little lunch meetup for our solopreneur squad.

Speaker: So if you would like to join us, hit me up, shoot me a DM at Taylor J. Armstrong.

Speaker: Uh, you can shoot me an email as well.

Speaker: Taylor solar printer.com, but I would love to hang out with y'all.

Speaker: We got little space of time, probably two hours, really.

Speaker: I think there's, I don't know, some little things going on, but from what I could see, the next speaker that you're going to want to be at is Lance Armstrong.

Speaker: He is at two o'clock on Saturday.

Speaker: My uncle, Lance Armstrong, the goat sky is awesome.

Speaker: Wish he's my uncle.

Speaker: Hey, but how could you not want to see this guy?

Speaker: What is it?

Speaker: Seven Tour de Francis.

Speaker: Just, you know, even even with the whole drug scandal thing, you got to see what this guy's doing.

Speaker: And then the last two speakers, you got Sam Taggart and then you got Sean White.

Speaker: Sam Taggart, he always drops some knowledge.

Speaker: You know, of course, you're always going to hear great things from Sam Taggart.

Speaker: He does pitch his program at the end of it.

Speaker: So if you're interested in joining his door-to-door experts, I haven't ever actually been a part of it.

Speaker: It's the year-long... I don't even know what he calls it.

Speaker: Sorry, Sam, if you're listening to this.

Speaker: But I've heard good things about it.

Speaker: So if you are looking to join that and, of course, get in at the special pricing, I'm sure there's bonuses, stuff like that, then check it out.

Speaker: If you know for sure you're not buying anything, you're not going to get in this program for sure, then you can hear what he has to say.

Speaker: And I guess leave in the last 10, 15 minutes, save you the, you know, the sales pitch, even though, hey, I think it's still valuable hearing how these guys sell on stage, even if you know you're not going to be part of this program.

Speaker: Hey, but that's about it.

Speaker: So hope you're able to join us.

Speaker: If you are not coming to Door2DoorCon,

Speaker: Hopefully that just gave you some knowledge about people in the industry.

Speaker: I think it is valuable to just expand your network to know who the top guys are.

Speaker: I remember when I was studying percussion at my university.

Speaker: If you're new to the podcast, yeah, I studied music.

Speaker: I was a music nerd.

Speaker: But the best guys around me in drums, percussion, guess what?

Speaker: They always knew who all the top drummers were.

Speaker: And they had relationships with the top guys.

Speaker: So I've taken that.

Speaker: I think that's something I try to do in door to door in solar and part of why I started the podcast, because I know that success leaves clues, even if maybe you're not necessarily name to name basis with these people.

Speaker: You should know who the top guys are.

Speaker: And you should be trying to establish contact with all these people because your network is your net worth.

Speaker: And that's the power going to events like these.

Speaker: So hopefully that helps as you are planning where you're going to go at Door to Door Con.

Speaker: And then again, hit me up Saturday.

Speaker: We're going to do a little lunch with the people from the podcast that are meeting up with that are coming to the events.

Speaker: Would love to hang out with y'all.

Speaker: Shoot me a DM and apologize if you have sent me a DM.

Speaker: I'm definitely catching up.

Speaker: I get behind from time to time.

Speaker: So I will get your message.

Speaker: But yeah, keep them coming.

Speaker: Love y'all.

Speaker: Can't wait to see everyone coming at Door to Door Con.

Speaker: And I'm excited.

Speaker: We got some stellar content coming up.

Speaker: We've already got several interviews in the works that I'm going to be shooting at Door to Door Con.

Speaker: And this Friday, we probably won't have like a regular podcast, but stay tuned.

Speaker: We're going to have some surprises, possible live streams coming from DoorDorCon.

Speaker: And I can't wait for you to see what's coming next.

Speaker: Thanks for supporting the show.

Speaker: And we will see you on the next one.

Speaker: Peace.

Speaker: Hey, solopreneurs, quick question.

Speaker: What if you could surround yourself with the industry's top performing sales pros, marketers, and CEOs and learn from their experience and wisdom in less than 20 minutes a day?
