Introduction and Taylor's Journey
00:00:03
Speaker
Welcome to the Solarpreneur Podcast where we teach you to take your solar business to the next level.
00:00:08
Speaker
My name is Taylor Armstrong and I went from $50 in my bank account and struggling for groceries to closing 150 deals in a year and cracking the code on why sales reps fell.
00:00:19
Speaker
I teach you how to avoid the mistakes I made and bring in the top solar dogs of the industry to let you in on the secrets of generating more leads, falling up like a pro and closing more deals.
00:00:31
Speaker
What is a solopreneur you might ask?
00:00:33
Speaker
A solopreneur is a new breed of solopro that is willing to do whatever it takes to achieve mastery and you are about to become one.
00:00:42
Speaker
Hey, what's going on,
Door-to-DoorCon Preview and Discounts
00:00:43
Speaker
We are going to be previewing Door-to-DoorCon coming up right around the corner here.
00:00:49
Speaker
If you have not got your tickets yet, go grab them.
00:00:52
Speaker
This is your last chance.
00:00:54
Speaker
The discount code that we're throwing out for our listeners is Armstrong20.
00:00:58
Speaker
You can get 20% off your Door-to-DoorCon tickets.
00:01:03
Speaker
Hope to see you there.
00:01:04
Speaker
But we're going to be talking all things Door-to-DoorCon, which is one of my favorite events of the year.
00:01:10
Speaker
and give you a little preview what to expect.
00:01:14
Speaker
If it's your first time, tell you who you should see.
00:01:17
Speaker
If you're coming back, review some speakers.
00:01:20
Speaker
And yeah, I think you'll like it.
00:01:23
Speaker
So let's get into it.
00:01:24
Speaker
My name is Taylor Armstrong.
00:01:25
Speaker
We're here to help you close more deals, generate more leads and referrals, and have a much better time in the solar industry.
00:01:32
Speaker
And we switched the order up a little bit.
00:01:34
Speaker
I hope you enjoyed last podcast.
00:01:37
Speaker
We had Will Darlene.
00:01:38
Speaker
This guy is a beast of a closer.
00:01:40
Speaker
So if you've not listened to that episode, go check it out.
00:01:43
Speaker
It was absolute fire and got a lot of great feedback about it.
00:01:49
Speaker
But we switched up a little bit because I wanted to do this preview episode right before Door to DoorCon came around.
VIP Events and Taylor's Plans
00:01:58
Speaker
So we're going to jump into some of the speakers.
00:02:01
Speaker
I'll tell you who I'm going to be going to.
00:02:04
Speaker
And yeah, hopefully it'll help you plan for the event because that's one thing I've learned after going to so many of these events.
00:02:12
Speaker
I think this is my, I want to say fifth Door-to-DoorCon.
00:02:17
Speaker
Yeah, I think there's been seven door to door cons that maybe missed one or two.
00:02:23
Speaker
So yeah, this will be door to door con seven, I believe.
00:02:26
Speaker
So yeah, I've been to quite a few of these.
00:02:31
Speaker
And hopefully I can shed some light if you have not been to as many as I have.
00:02:35
Speaker
Okay, so let's jump into it.
00:02:38
Speaker
First, it's going to be three days.
00:02:40
Speaker
The first day is the VIP day.
00:02:43
Speaker
And looks like on the schedule really is just, I guess, VIP evening, I should say, because on Thursday, there is a basketball and soccer tournament.
00:02:59
Speaker
And I've thought about doing that, but basketball and soccer.
00:03:05
Speaker
I'm very mediocre at both those sports.
00:03:07
Speaker
I actually like basketball a lot, but I'm not the greatest at it.
00:03:12
Speaker
I wish there was like a jujitsu tournament because that's that's the sport I'm going hard in right now.
00:03:18
Speaker
But that's the day one.
00:03:20
Speaker
And then you got some VIP events in the evening.
00:03:23
Speaker
I'm actually not going to those this year.
00:03:26
Speaker
Got some other stuff.
00:03:28
Speaker
So if you were going, let me know how it goes.
00:03:32
Speaker
Would love to hear if you thought it was worth the money.
00:03:35
Speaker
And yeah, what you thought of the speaker and networking that they're doing there on the VIP day one.
Featured Speakers Highlight
00:03:45
Speaker
So really, we're going to focus on the main meat of the event, which is Friday and Saturday, the 26th and 27th.
00:03:53
Speaker
So the featured speakers this year, you got Kent Clothier.
00:03:58
Speaker
I think I'm saying his name right.
00:04:00
Speaker
Actually, I had never heard of him before this.
00:04:03
Speaker
Maybe I'm living under a rock.
00:04:05
Speaker
You got Chris Voss.
00:04:07
Speaker
You got Sean White.
00:04:09
Speaker
And you got Sam Taggart, of course.
00:04:13
Speaker
Count him as the main guy.
00:04:14
Speaker
And you got Lance Armstrong and Sean...
00:04:20
Speaker
Sean, what did I say?
00:04:22
Speaker
Anyways, those are the main guys.
00:04:24
Speaker
So I would definitely recommend checking out all of them.
00:04:27
Speaker
They're going to be, I think, great speakers.
00:04:30
Speaker
I've actually never heard any of them speak.
00:04:33
Speaker
But Kent Clothier, he starts us out.
00:04:35
Speaker
And if you've not heard of this guy, I did a little bit of research in preparing for this podcast.
00:04:39
Speaker
He is a real estate guy.
00:04:41
Speaker
Looks like he teaches people like wholesaling and then also just investing in real estate with your door-to-door money.
00:04:49
Speaker
So should be good.
00:04:51
Speaker
Always interested in door-to-door or in real estate.
00:04:56
Speaker
But the person I am probably maybe more excited about than any other speaker at this event is Chris Voss.
00:05:04
Speaker
And that's at 1130.
00:05:08
Speaker
I've never seen him speak live, but I have watched a lot of YouTube videos of him.
00:05:12
Speaker
I've, of course, read his book, Never Split the Difference, which I recommend to every new rep and really anyone in door-to-door.
00:05:20
Speaker
I think it's absolutely phenomenal.
00:05:23
Speaker
I've actually mentioned it many times in the podcast, just his two techniques that I use all the time when I'm setting appointments and in deals are mirroring and labeling.
00:05:35
Speaker
I think he's definitely going to be touching on those, hopefully expounding on them, telling them about how we can use these in sales.
00:05:41
Speaker
Because his book, it's not necessarily, it is, you know, sales focus.
00:05:47
Speaker
But what's going to be cool about seeing him at this event is he is going to, I assume, focus everything, gear everything towards the door-to-door crowd and talk about how we can actually apply the concepts he talks about in his books to door-to-door, which will be really awesome, I think.
00:06:04
Speaker
Okay, and then from there, we get into the workshops.
00:06:08
Speaker
And the downside this year, for whatever reason,
00:06:12
Speaker
They did not put on the website who the speakers at the workshops were going to be.
00:06:18
Speaker
I know, weird, right?
00:06:19
Speaker
A little bit frustrating.
00:06:21
Speaker
I would like to see who the speakers are for the workshops because that definitely influences who I'm going to go check out.
00:06:26
Speaker
They did put the speakers, but they didn't put who was actually speaking at which workshop.
00:06:32
Speaker
It just has a whole speaker list on there.
00:06:34
Speaker
So I did do a little bit of guessing.
00:06:36
Speaker
I have heard a lot of these guys.
00:06:38
Speaker
So I think I have a...
00:06:42
Speaker
okay idea of who might be doing which topic, at least for the solar related ones.
00:06:49
Speaker
But yeah, would have been nice to know.
00:06:51
Speaker
So at 2pm, there are looks like six different workshops.
Workshops and Solar Sales Training
00:06:57
Speaker
And I'm not going to go through every single one of these.
00:06:59
Speaker
But the one that I'm going to be going to out of these ones, you got a solar cells pitch training.
00:07:06
Speaker
We're focusing on solar, so a lot of these probably, if you just pick the one that says solar next to it, probably not going to go wrong.
00:07:14
Speaker
But we got pitch training, and from the speaker lineup that I saw on the website, my best guess who might be doing this pitch training is
00:07:27
Speaker
is could it possibly be Johnny Graham?
00:07:30
Speaker
Hey, he is our fellow YouTuber, RealSalesDynamics.
00:07:36
Speaker
This guy is awesome.
00:07:38
Speaker
He's someone that I didn't see on any of the panels.
00:07:41
Speaker
That's my best guess is he may be doing the pitch training, which if you don't subscribe to that channel, it's one of my go-to YouTube channels.
00:07:51
Speaker
RealSalesDynamics is awesome.
00:07:52
Speaker
They do like presentation breakdowns and stuff.
00:07:57
Speaker
uh yeah pitch training so maybe it's him and then at three o'clock um again a few different workshops the one that's i'm gonna be checking out is the solar ceo workshop on here you got josh shetherland john frampton jake kilgore bell barrage barrage am i saying his name right and mark bench
00:08:20
Speaker
I know a little bit on here.
00:08:21
Speaker
Val Barachet, he is Michael O'Donnell's partner over at Sun Solar Solutions.
00:08:27
Speaker
This guy is awesome.
00:08:28
Speaker
John Frampton, definitely going to want to hear what this cat has to say.
00:08:35
Speaker
He was over, I think, all of SolarCity.
00:08:38
Speaker
All the cells are up at SolarCity, I believe.
00:08:41
Speaker
Hey, but definitely knows the stuff.
00:08:43
Speaker
Josh Sutherland's he's over running a titanium.
00:08:47
Speaker
He knows how to build up an organization, even though titanium, you know, they I'm not not going to say too much on that, but had a few issues with some of their installs when I used them out here.
00:09:00
Speaker
But obviously they're building like crazy.
00:09:03
Speaker
So worth hearing what these guys have to say.
00:09:06
Speaker
And then at four, you got the solar cells panel.
00:09:14
Speaker
Three different ones.
00:09:14
Speaker
And you guys can go on the website, look at all of these.
00:09:17
Speaker
But just to not, you know, go over every single little workshop going on here, I'm going to keep it concise to the ones I think you should probably check out the ones that are solar focused.
00:09:29
Speaker
So on the solar sales panel, you got Chase Hermanson.
00:09:32
Speaker
I'm actually don't know him.
00:09:35
Speaker
You got my boy Ashton Buswell.
00:09:37
Speaker
Love Buzz and have had many chances to interact with Ashton.
00:09:43
Speaker
This guy is definitely one of my role models in solar.
00:09:47
Speaker
He's come on the podcast once before.
00:09:50
Speaker
Definitely one of our most popular podcasts we've done.
00:09:53
Speaker
You got Sam Manley.
00:09:55
Speaker
This guy came on the podcast recently, but he is closing insane amounts of deals over there at Spartan Solar.
00:10:02
Speaker
So you definitely want to hear what this guy is doing.
00:10:05
Speaker
You can go listen to his podcast if you haven't already.
00:10:07
Speaker
And then you got Luke Ward, which I think I've met Luke, but I don't know him.
00:10:14
Speaker
So I think that's going to be a great panel.
00:10:16
Speaker
I would definitely recommend going and checking out that, having your questions ready.
00:10:20
Speaker
And that's the thing, guys.
00:10:21
Speaker
Go with your questions ready.
00:10:23
Speaker
Sometimes you go to these events.
00:10:25
Speaker
I make this mistake a lot of times when I go to events is I don't go with necessarily questions in mind, things I want to learn.
00:10:33
Speaker
So if you can go thinking, OK, what are some takeaways?
00:10:36
Speaker
What are my biggest questions that I want to get answered at this event?
00:10:40
Speaker
Who are the people I want to network with?
00:10:43
Speaker
What are the skills I want to improve?
00:10:47
Speaker
What are the areas that I need improvement on, whether it's recruiting, whether it's leadership, whether it's selling?
00:10:54
Speaker
So think what are the purposes behind you going to the event?
00:10:59
Speaker
Because if you're just going to go, then it's not going to be as good.
00:11:02
Speaker
And a lot of times I go to go and don't get as much out of the event.
00:11:08
Speaker
So keep that in mind as you are going to these different workshops and as you are seeing these different speakers.
00:11:15
Speaker
Hey, and then let's move on to day two or three, just depending on if you're counting on counting the first VIP evening.
00:11:25
Speaker
Day three starts right off the bat with the workshops.
00:11:30
Speaker
And this is the one I always feel bad for the workshop speakers because I've got I've probably been to half of these, you know, half half the door to door guns I've gone into this morning.
00:11:42
Speaker
lineup of workshops.
00:11:44
Speaker
And let me tell you, they are, are slow in numbers.
00:11:50
Speaker
I don't know what the saying is.
00:11:52
Speaker
There's not too many people to go to these.
00:11:54
Speaker
And a big reason is because if you look at the schedule, Sam has scheduled the VIP after party Friday nights.
00:12:00
Speaker
And this thing is going half the night people are probably going to stand up, you know, hitting this sack one or two in the morning.
00:12:07
Speaker
So it's like, OK, it's going to be a little bit tough to get people up.
00:12:12
Speaker
I think a few years it's been even like 830 or nine.
00:12:16
Speaker
But still, hopefully people will show up to these because I think there are some good things going on Saturday.
00:12:22
Speaker
And this one I'm actually really excited about.
00:12:25
Speaker
You got a recruiting panel.
00:12:27
Speaker
You got Chris Underwood, Luke Miseko, I think, Will Ellermitz, Tom Caron, Alex Smith.
00:12:34
Speaker
That is definitely some heavy hitters of recruiting.
00:12:38
Speaker
Specifically, I know Will Ellermitz.
00:12:40
Speaker
You probably know him from the Snapper Academy.
00:12:43
Speaker
He is also killing it on YouTube.
00:12:45
Speaker
Watch a lot of his videos, a lot of his content.
00:12:48
Speaker
Tom Caron, he's one of the OGs in the industry.
00:12:51
Speaker
He did his bandage pest control thing.
00:12:56
Speaker
I think he's one of the co-founders of Aveo Solar.
00:13:00
Speaker
Knows how to just run a company or recruit hordes of people.
00:13:06
Speaker
What can you not love about this guy?
00:13:08
Speaker
He's got a six-pack.
00:13:10
Speaker
He's partnered up with Andy Elliott.
00:13:13
Speaker
just blowing things up with Spartan Solar.
00:13:16
Speaker
This guy knows how to recruit people, bottom line.
00:13:20
Speaker
So if you are wanting to sharpen your recruiting skills, I would definitely recommend checking out that recruiting panel.
00:13:26
Speaker
Hey, and then a couple more workshops here.
00:13:28
Speaker
These last two workshops, we don't get a ton of information.
00:13:31
Speaker
So I'm sure we will hopefully get a little bit more once we arrive to the event.
00:13:38
Speaker
But 1030, you got a women's panel, which always great.
00:13:43
Speaker
You know, we got to support our ladies in door to door.
00:13:46
Speaker
And I know that's I've gotten some criticism at times for being too male focused on the podcast.
00:13:51
Speaker
So for all my lady listeners.
00:13:54
Speaker
Thanks for tuning into this show.
00:13:56
Speaker
And I try to keep it, you know, inspiring and just valuable for whatever gender, whatever you want to call yourself.
00:14:08
Speaker
We've had a few of them on the podcast and the women panel this year.
00:14:13
Speaker
I know for sure you got our girl, Suli.
00:14:15
Speaker
She's going to be on the panel.
00:14:17
Speaker
She has been on the podcast with us.
00:14:20
Speaker
She absolutely crushes.
00:14:23
Speaker
And it looks like I lost my tab that had it.
00:14:26
Speaker
But Suli for sure is going to be on it.
00:14:29
Speaker
No, there's it's always a good time hanging out at the woman's panel because these ladies, I think they bring a different aspect to ourselves.
00:14:38
Speaker
And I don't think you have to be a woman to go to the panel.
00:14:43
Speaker
But the other one at 1030, if you do like real estate, someone that I've been following for a while, this one is called Nakanami.
00:14:52
Speaker
And it's how to take your money earned from the doors and invest its
Investing Earnings into Real Estate
00:15:00
Speaker
This one, I'm guessing it's going to be doing there's a few different real estate people come in to door to door con.
00:15:07
Speaker
But my guess is this could be Dwayne Richens.
00:15:10
Speaker
He is a guy that's sold alarms door to door for a long time.
00:15:14
Speaker
And then he transitioned to real estate, knocking doors for real estate.
00:15:19
Speaker
And he's, you know, crushing it in that.
00:15:22
Speaker
So that's my guess.
00:15:23
Speaker
And 1130, there's not too much info about the panels for 1130.
00:15:28
Speaker
So that one's to be determined.
00:15:30
Speaker
Okay, but I wanted to make a special invitation.
00:15:33
Speaker
If you are going to door to door con,
00:15:36
Speaker
Right around this time on Saturday, we are planning a little lunch meetup for our solopreneur squad.
00:15:42
Speaker
So if you would like to join us, hit me up, shoot me a DM at Taylor J. Armstrong.
00:15:48
Speaker
Uh, you can shoot me an email as well.
00:15:50
Speaker
Taylor solar printer.com, but I would love to hang out with y'all.
00:15:54
Speaker
We got little space of time, probably two hours, really.
00:15:57
Speaker
I think there's, I don't know, some little things going on, but from what I could see, the next speaker that you're going to want to be at is Lance Armstrong.
00:16:06
Speaker
He is at two o'clock on Saturday.
00:16:09
Speaker
My uncle, Lance Armstrong, the goat sky is awesome.
00:16:14
Speaker
Wish he's my uncle.
00:16:15
Speaker
Hey, but how could you not want to see this guy?
00:16:18
Speaker
Seven Tour de Francis.
00:16:20
Speaker
Just, you know, even even with the whole drug scandal thing, you got to see what this guy's doing.
00:16:26
Speaker
And then the last two speakers, you got Sam Taggart and then you got Sean White.
00:16:31
Speaker
Sam Taggart, he always drops some knowledge.
00:16:35
Speaker
You know, of course, you're always going to hear great things from Sam Taggart.
00:16:39
Speaker
He does pitch his program at the end of it.
00:16:43
Speaker
So if you're interested in joining his door-to-door experts, I haven't ever actually been a part of it.
00:16:50
Speaker
It's the year-long... I don't even know what he calls it.
00:16:54
Speaker
Sorry, Sam, if you're listening to this.
00:16:56
Speaker
But I've heard good things about it.
00:16:57
Speaker
So if you are looking to join that and, of course, get in at the special pricing, I'm sure there's bonuses, stuff like that, then check it out.
00:17:06
Speaker
If you know for sure you're not buying anything, you're not going to get in this program for sure, then you can hear what he has to say.
00:17:13
Speaker
And I guess leave in the last 10, 15 minutes, save you the, you know, the sales pitch, even though, hey, I think it's still valuable hearing how these guys sell on stage, even if you know you're not going to be part of this program.
00:17:27
Speaker
Hey, but that's about it.
00:17:29
Speaker
So hope you're able to join us.
00:17:31
Speaker
If you are not coming to Door2DoorCon,
00:17:33
Speaker
Hopefully that just gave you some knowledge about people in the industry.
00:17:37
Speaker
I think it is valuable to just expand your network to know who the top guys are.
00:17:43
Speaker
I remember when I was studying percussion at my university.
00:17:49
Speaker
If you're new to the podcast, yeah, I studied music.
00:17:52
Speaker
I was a music nerd.
00:17:53
Speaker
But the best guys around me in drums, percussion, guess what?
00:17:57
Speaker
They always knew who all the top drummers were.
00:18:00
Speaker
And they had relationships with the top guys.
00:18:03
Speaker
So I've taken that.
00:18:05
Speaker
I think that's something I try to do in door to door in solar and part of why I started the podcast, because I know that success leaves clues, even if maybe you're not necessarily name to name basis with these people.
00:18:18
Speaker
You should know who the top guys are.
00:18:21
Speaker
And you should be trying to establish contact with all these people because your network is your net worth.
00:18:29
Speaker
And that's the power going to events like these.
00:18:32
Speaker
So hopefully that helps as you are planning where you're going to go at Door to Door Con.
Lunch Meetup Invitation
00:18:38
Speaker
And then again, hit me up Saturday.
00:18:40
Speaker
We're going to do a little lunch with the people from the podcast that are meeting up with that are coming to the events.
00:18:46
Speaker
Would love to hang out with y'all.
00:18:47
Speaker
Shoot me a DM and apologize if you have sent me a DM.
00:18:51
Speaker
I'm definitely catching up.
00:18:53
Speaker
I get behind from time to time.
00:18:55
