Michele Martin: Hello and welcome back to the Authenticity Revolution. Today's episode is for the part of you that knows when something feels off, but doesn't always feel safe enough to listen.

Michele Martin: You know those moments, the tightness in your chest, the drop in your stomach, the whisper in your body that says something isn't right. And yet we override it, right? We push through.

Michele Martin: We abandon ourselves to keep the peace, to avoid conflict, or be who we think that we're supposed to be. But your body was never meant to be a battleground.

Michele Martin: It was meant to be your compass. So today we're talking about how to reconnect to that compass and how to stop betraying yourself in the moments that matter the most.

Michele Martin: So let me start with a moment from my own life. So years ago, I was dating someone and my body just knew that something was off from day one, but I ignored it ah felt tension I felt felt contraction.

Michele Martin: I felt that subtle, instinctual no. But I told myself I was overreacting or being too picky or imagining things. And because I overrode myself, I ended up in a relationship that brought a lot of stress.

Michele Martin: And looking back, the truth is clear. My body knew, but I just didn't trust it. And that's the cost of self abandonment. We override our wisdom and then we pay for it later.

Michele Martin: So let's talk about what I call the somatic compass. It's the inner navigation system that's built into your body. It's your sensations, your breath, your tension, your warmth, your contraction, and your expansion.

Michele Martin: It's the body's intelligence that says, This feels true. or this feels off. This feels safe. This feels like a no.

Michele Martin: This feels like a yes. It's subtle, but it's always honest. And most women in midlife override their somatic compass because they've been conditioned to be good, to keep the peace, to not rock the boat, right? To be agreeable. to prioritize others, to ignore their needs, to override their intuition for logic or for approval.

Michele Martin: And after decades of that conditioning, the signals that our body sends us can start to get faint, right? And it's not because they're gone, but because we stopped listening.

Michele Martin: So your nervous system plays a massive role in this. If your body doesn't feel safe, you won't hear your truth. You'll hear survival patterns instead, right? Fawning, over-explaining, saying yes when you mean no, shutting down, and rushing to fix or smooth things over.

Michele Martin: So reconnecting with your somatic compass isn't just spiritual, it's physiological. It's about teaching your body that it's safe to tell you the truth again.

Michele Martin: So here are the ways that we override ourselves the most. Saying yes when our body says no. Ignoring exhaustion.

Michele Martin: Over apologizing. Overexplaining. Staying in situations longer than our soul can stand. Numbing instead of feeling.

Michele Martin: Lowering our standards. and choosing peace over self-respect. But the good news is that you can retrain this. So there are some small steps that you can do to reconnect.

Michele Martin: You don't need a huge overhaul. You just need micro moments of self-listening, right? Of awareness. So you can pause even for just three seconds.

Michele Martin: Breathe. Slow exhale. Scan your body. What sensations are there? Name it. Is it tight?

Michele Martin: Does it feel warm? Does it feel stuck? Does it feel open? And give yourself permission to feel, to know, and to choose differently.

Michele Martin: And these tiny steps rebuild trust. So here's my question for you. What's one place in your life where your body says no, but your mouth still says yes?

Michele Martin: Just naming it brings you back to yourself. So if this episode landed for you, share it with someone who needs the reminder that their body isn't betraying them, it's guiding them.

Michele Martin: And remember, your truth lives in your body, your body is the compass, and you're allowed to follow it. You're not broken. You're waking up.

Michele Martin: And I'll see you in the next episode.
