Speaker: ah low and go thread Yes. Three, two, one, go. Ready, set, go. the hey hello 321 go reminds me of of of there was a show on pbs called 321 contact and that was good it was a little science nerd kids anyway so welcome to awesome like Moving towards better.
Speaker: Moving towards better. Yes. ah So I'm DJ crispy. I actually put that up here this time so you know um a .k .a And this is...
Speaker: I am C Money. with. Some new technology coming at your ass. Look at that. Alright. So blew the whole budget on that. Yeah, there we go. ah Big test today is whether the new technology is backwards or forwards.
Speaker: And so this is a short. episode because It probably won't make much sense what I'm going to do today if we do it backwards. Or this one's for all those just like that all you dyslexics out in the house. Yeah!
Speaker: That's what I was going to say. I was hoping it was backwards and people just didn't notice. yeah they They were fine. They were fine with it. It worked perfectly. Yeah, we'll do it that way. Excellent.
Speaker: There you go. So we we owe an update. on some challenges Yes. And see, do you want to go first or you want to?
Speaker: I have no problem either way. I'm... Well, let's explain what the challenges were first, and then we'll flip a coin. See who goes first. Do we have our digital plan?
Speaker: Oh, yeah, McClure Quinn. Because we we spent some money on that too, um you know Yeah, my coin flip out. All right. All right, there we go. So all this all this budget. Okay, so the the first...
Speaker: Well, the challenge for me... was to learn to crochet because i keep using it as an example so often so see money in his his righteous wisdom there figured out that oh that's ah probably a good one for me um Little did he know, and we'll get to it later there, that...
Speaker: I have some weird things with my hands. That sounds bad. Maybe. See, I'm full of those are good soundbites. We should just take those out of context. I hope. Yeah, yeah that's a good TikTok soundbite right there. I have weird things with my hands.
Speaker: And that shall be. no And in your challenge. Of course. Was to learn Morse code. Bye.
Speaker: Oh, by ear. by By sound, yes, that's important. Yeah. Cause you know. Hmm. we'll We'll talk more about this. Yes. For sure. okay Yeah.
Speaker: Okay. Alright, you got the magic coin flipper? Oh, yeah, yeah. you do Alright, you call it. in the air here. Alright. Heads. Yeah. What does it say? You go first. It is heads. I go first. Oh, okay.
Speaker: There you go. Alright, so, heads. Oh, I got a microphone. shadow i'm going to fix that too see all this tech we got to work on Yep. Okay. See, so when then we get that big, you know, sponsorship money, that'll help him. So... one of the things i don't know if our listeners know this or not i don't know for our viewers know this or not but uh I have ah sort of a weird autoimmune...
Speaker: Uh... Arthritis. that um And. It's not bad. I mean, I can still do most things, but... I've noticed actual changes in my my hands over the the years here.
Speaker: um like i can't on the guitar the violin i can't Hold the... the position the the cord is as well as i I like to anymore and some of the strength.
Speaker: Yeah. The lower fingers has gone. So, but I didn't think it would make a big deal. with crochet and didn't bring it you know i mean my wife crochets and you know we're we're both of a certain age Oh, man, she's going to be upset that I said that. This is the Moving Towards Older podcast. Moving Towards Older podcast. Yes. There you go.
Speaker: oh next Next week, we'll discuss what to do with Social Security. and There you go. So... um I was jealous. know to learn to crochet and you know i made made some effort at this and as i was telling Chris earlier this week.
Speaker: I have successfully created A scarf for a mouse. Hey, that's nice. So um if you have a rodent that has a cold neck. I can help you out. Can you, can you, well here, there we go.
Speaker: Very nice. It's not bad. It's a chain. It's this the first start. You can see I got a little bit out of whack on that one right there. there it It is surprisingly... more difficult than I thought it would be.
Speaker: um Because one of the issues is you have to do something like this. Let me see if I can demonstrate this here. So there's multiple fingers involved here. It's kind of like playing the piano or the guitar backwards This finger...
Speaker: And here... do some tension
Speaker: And I can't even get it right now. And then the second finger. So the third, these third and fourth are supposed to hold this tension on. The... the yarn And then the middle finger there.
Speaker: is where you're going to go in and do your little hooking and and pulling through and Yada, yada. Okay. yeah So here's the deal. my These fingers, I can't even get this finger.
Speaker: to touch. to hold that. It doesn't even work. So, so. After various positions, After my wife and I tried various positions.
Speaker: tell you i'm gonna make this another good clip come on put that in that'll draw bring the audience in No problem. There you go. Yeah. she yeah had these, she was looking up, you know, What do people with arthritis do? Because you see like grannies.
Speaker: crocheting and knitting all the time. And. she found me some bling. And... So. you can see there we go let's pull it up there it's a peacock actually super cool yeah yeah so the way this bling works and I'm gonna do it wrong anyway.
Speaker: So it's adjustable but you wrap You put the yarn... In the bling. And then you put... Is that what the tool is called? The bling?
Speaker: The bling. I'm going to call it the bling. And then so that gives you. So then all you have to do, see, it can be used for the attention. To hold it And then it hooks under the...
Speaker: other side. And by... Now you've got a little feed. And now I can take this. See so the bling is going through and I think I could do let's see if I could do one loop here So I go through the little.
Speaker: Spot here getting it started is just starting with like a granny knot and it's an under And see I can't I'm still not even holding it right and then you pull this through Nope, didn't do it.
Speaker: Okay, see Ugh. There we go. There we go. Wait, it's going to come through. And there. We made one more link in the chain. Okay, so I can start. I just have to practice with.
Speaker: It's going to take some more time to get used to. How do I adjust the tension just right? How do I keep this here? And so basically cut these two fingers out of the picture. which was the hard part.
Speaker: um So that was very... Very smart of her to go find this. and say, there you go, that's how the grannies do it. And now I just have to practice. um And once I get through that, then we'll flip this back over and go the other way. And yes, I'll start making my rows.
Speaker: Oh, okay. One day be a human scarf. One day. Right now it's... The rodent scarf. okay so how many hours how many hours of work would you say that that uh rodent scarf Bye.
Speaker: Is. Well, so the funny thing is, this is not very long. This this took me... Once I could get going, whereas... spent most of my time was just getting something.
Speaker: You don't know how many times I started and then I undid because I i couldn't get. the tension and they couldn't you can see the tensions uneven see how that one big knot there Yeah, it's kind of hard to tell maybe. Yeah, we're going to have to get a better focus on that. They should be all nice and even sized. And it's all about how you adjust the tension in the yarn.
Speaker: so actually just to make that little section though that probably went less than an hour. once I could get going. But this was done in... butts and spurts and then i'd lose control of the yarn and i'd have to back up a little bit yeah So all in all, I'd say. this was You know off and on maybe Four.
Speaker: hours across. Just to get to that. Wow. and but But here's the thing. Once you get to that, there's this... this gap of Yeah, it's hard. is in the beginning and you know my my wife learned as a child and so Crochet is a young man's game.
Speaker: It is. It's a young man's game. It's a it's a nimble fingers game. Yeah. um But I... i enjoy it it was it was fun as a puzzle and i and i will continue with it and i will you know, maybe a month or so from now, I'll come back and say, look, look at my pretty scarf. Now is this getting colder?
Speaker: and That's the plan. So it is working. That is awesome. You know? I... I appreciate the... the the the challenge because that gave me the oomph to she's trying to teach me Many times, but it also encouraged her to. say, okay,
Speaker: No excuses. on my part. And maybe that's the thing I want to want. anybody to take away from this was that Um... you You have to adjust, right? Whatever you're learning, whatever you're doing, it's, you know, people with. different abilities.
Speaker: you know, dyscalcia, dyslexia. with abilities it you know physically you know my fingers there and you know I can't. Yeah. um It was like you know the guitar. I can't really complain and say, oh, no, I can't play like that. I mean, Django right Reinhardt played. Yeah. Yeah, with what, two fingers? didn't even work. Right. So yeah. everything he does that jazz guitar that he does was all with you know gypsy jazz, but still. So.
Speaker: Yeah, no excuses. I guess, you know. Willie Nelson must have some powerful arthritis, you know? and I would imagine. yeah exactly but he's also got powerful weed to counteract the feeling of that which, you know.
Speaker: Amen. Well, that what what so he's got a new book out too. Speaking of Willie Nelson. Yeah. I'll have to bring, mention that later. Oh, by the way, Willie, you're now a sponsor. just so you know so that's awesome um okay he has a very a new book out and it's Yeah.
Speaker: Oh, yeah. Willie Nelson. There you go. All right, so keep... Let me know where we're at. where so Can you decode like your name? or That is awesome. Okay, I'm going to...
Speaker: let's Let's talk about Morse code. I've learned a lot about Morse code here. First of all, the Like way to learn it is. by by sound. uh and so you know you can memorize the letters and it really does help to memorize the letters and to like think of like visuals to go with them ah And so in the the apps you look at on the...
Speaker: you know i've downloaded several apps this is websites i would go to there's a daily game ah And... they They use things like... Um,
Speaker: It's weird that like, OK, so this is There we go dot dot That's that's. That's P. And in the apps... um like you visual Like. You visualize this by like the poop emoji.
Speaker: here like two dots and then two poop emojis and that's p Okay. i So it's you know it's two dots or two dashes?
Speaker: Well, there's a dot dash dash dot. Oh, I see. I see that there's a dot in front of that. yeah I missed the first time. So that tiny little rabbit poops and then big other human poops or something. like bla I guess.
Speaker: No. Dog poops. There we go. We'll keep it. Dog poops. And so that's that's how I remember pee. ah And so um e E is very easy. I forget even what that is. that's that's E.
Speaker: N is the opposite of A. So a is that dash n is dash dot. ah and So there's N. I, so E is one dot, I is two dots.
Speaker: And so there's I. C, I remember C, it's a little complicated, but C is dash, dot, dash, dot. And so that's a C. And then K. is the opposite of R.
Speaker: So here's K. And it is dash dot dash. Whereas R is dot dash dot. So that's R.
Speaker: and So so so ah you took a very visual approach, it sounds like. Well... then I remember this, but then they actually go into the... This is just to remember the letters. There are letters um that I can't remember. I can remember...
Speaker: that a is that dash and i'm starting you know so you start to pick up patterns like z is dash dash dot dot And so it goes. You know, the whole alphabet goes from dot dash to.
Speaker: dash dash dot dot And... Dirt. There's not an exact pattern inside except that. More common letters are shorter.
Speaker: So E is just a dot. I is two dots. Uh... And then... um ah S is three dots.
Speaker: And H is four dots. And then... T is a dash. M is two dashes. O is three dashes.
Speaker: and but So there is a sure pattern to it, sort of. Sort of. Yeah. I always thought it was kind of random it seemed Nope. And then, you know.
Speaker: ever the most famous. thing. SOS. SOS is dot. Dot, dot. dash dash dash dot dot dot So that's SOS.
Speaker: That one I know. That was the it like the only one I really could have known. And so... my my thing was people to recognize you said uh like my name by sound and so But I know i have to first like know it.
Speaker: um That is dash dot dash dot. And then H is dot dot dot. Dot. And R is dash dot. And I is dot dot. And S is three dots.
Speaker: So, whoops, three dots. And M is two dashes. I is two. dot Dots. Yeah. n is dash dot, n is... dash dot I again is two dots. C is dash dot dash dot.
Speaker: And then k is the opposite of n. So it is dash dot. Dash. I mean, the opposite of R. So there's Chris Minnick. But the app that I've been using... or those um This app.
Speaker: ah The morning challenge thing website. So this website, I will bring this website up. and see if my technology works here. Uh... How's your dog doing?
Speaker: Oh, you hear it? Yeah. Oh man. So ah they're upstairs barking, I guess, because my wife is just now coming home. Morning Challenge! website huh Whoa, you can see it?
Speaker: Okay, there it is. Yeah. Well, so what's uh what's the address morningchallenge .com this is no this is uh a Morsel. So M -O -R -S -L -E dot fun.
Speaker: Okay, morsle .fun. And it will start out at 40 words per minute. um with this five -letter thing. And so it's it's like you're, you know.
Speaker: Your Wordle. but with Morse. And. You play it. And it'll go.
Speaker: And wait. I don't hear any audio, though. Okay, well the first letter is M. And. Second letter is...
Speaker: Uh... That, that, does that, that. da Dot dot dot. Wait, no. no it's I think it's O. So... Oh, this is cool. If you play it, it sounds like...
Speaker: Wait.
Speaker: Da -da -da -da -da -da -da -da -da. that yeah Something like that. Here we go. You should use the saxophone. oh that's a great idea but no more so definite wait That's the new intro.
Speaker: We can spell out our name. We can spell out our name of the show in saxophone.
Speaker: So see I got the first two that's a great idea. I got the first two letters by sound here Nice. And so now I do it again. Wait.
Speaker: Okay, now just because I like puzzles. that Did they do are are they doing worse? No, it is definitely not Morse. uh that's what i thought at first but i think it's actually more like wait a minute
Speaker: dot-da I think it's dash. dotda da ah So I think it's B. Let's see. Okay. Oh, isn't that big? Oh, darn. Okay, so let's not be Ta -da -da -da.
Speaker: It could be dash. Dot. dot dash It sounded like it was three dots. to me is that when you said that that's that's dash and then three dots What's that?
Speaker: i Think like the X So Moxie.
Speaker: I'm good at Wordle. Oh, I think, wait, this is. This is definitely an E.
Speaker: Oh, so maybe I don't know what that. then We can't be right there. Da da da da. So there's that. that addda that wait Let's see if I'm right with so far.
Speaker: No. No, the X is not right. Dang. Okay. so So it keeps getting slower the more you get wrong. Yeah.
Speaker: Okay. Ba -da -ba -da. So... We are almost there. Oh, my gosh. So hold on. Well, I love, too, that our listeners can't actually hear the sound. So this is maybe. Hopefully it got recorded. So you can only hear like my interpretation. you're a person of it I love that. There you go. So you learn to impersonate.
Speaker: Morse code. I like that. These are some great techniques though to learn. Yeah. Da da da da. It sounds like da -da -da -da, which would be B.
Speaker: Whoops. This... It might be B. You tried B already. at the Yeah, I thought it did. You tried B for that third one. It's not B. Try D. What's D?
Speaker: Da, da, da. Oh, I think it's actually D. I think you're right.
Speaker: Yep. Oh so yeah. What is the last one?
Speaker: Well, then the last one I don't know what does what does Da -da -da -da. Da -da -da -da Ta -ta -ta -ta. L? that that that I think it was L. that that that ah It's gotta be Elle, right?
Speaker: Yeah. Woo! Yay! Woo! So 15 words per minute from... per minute seems to be about where I get it every day. Okay.
Speaker: And so it starts out at 40, which is just. crazy fast. but this is what you know if you're doing like and you try this at home go to ah morsel that .fun and try this out and listen to what 40...
Speaker: words per minute and more sounds like. It's fast. Dang. But if you you know if you're trying to communicate a whole sentence to someone. You know, then I mean, this gives me new respect for, you know.
Speaker: What do you call them? telegraphers Telegraphers? What do you call them? Yeah, like ham radio operators learn this. Ham radio operators? Yeah, my daughter. She's worked on her hand license, my oldest daughter.
Speaker: This is green here. the So can you see yeah the green screen we get to see you behind there So like i we see ice come up through the letters. I love it.
Speaker: Well, so so so this was this was, I think this is this is fairly successful for us. So far. You know, I still I would love to. come back on these challenges. some more here i mean Let's do that. Let's come back at it um at the end of November.
Speaker: And that'll be our final one. And then we'll also issue new challenges. But yeah at the end of November. We will have. A human -sized scarf, even a small human -sized scarf.
Speaker: And might be a small, but still human size scarf. Yeah. Yeah. And actual setup where you, the listener will be able to. hear the Morse code and Penick will be able to.
Speaker: play some Morse code that I can hear, and then I will have to decode it. Yeah. We'll have to set up the tech. So, all right. And so now let's see. So Samuel Morse is now a sponsor too. Yeah. Sure. Yeah. totally I mean, what we'll have to check with the Morse estate or something. AT and &T. Yeah. AT and &T. There we go. Yeah. eighty t But they owe me. Because I just have to say.
Speaker: you know, I've been with AT and &T now for 20... Six years. 26 years from my phone, my mumble phone. and We were in a little place called Tacoma Park nearby. Mm -hmm.
Speaker: And... Yeah, Tacoma Park's a very... um I like my description. My wife doesn't like when I call the place artsy fartsy, but I think that's great. That's exactly. I mean, it gives you the whole. Yeah.
Speaker: spiel right there. I love Tacoma Park. All right. that It's a compliment when I say it's artsy fartsy. Yeah. You can't spell fart without art art. Exactly. That's what we used to say in the gallery business. Yeah. You can't spell fart without art. I love it. And so, but our phones were just completely useless there. It was like trying to look, Hey, what are some neat shops around? Or maybe some neat galleries around.
Speaker: you know using the maps. And it it was just dead. We wouldn't connect to it. anything, couldn't even text in and out. Mm -hmm. going on. with the local tower.
Speaker: But... and then every a lot of places we went didn't have wifi. So he couldn't even try that. And. It was actually kind of refreshing. My son was at yeah an AI boot camp. Which, by the way, I want to talk about that sometime.
Speaker: So my son got accepted to the Mark Cuban. ah AI bootcamp. Oh. Mark, I'm upset with you. All right. I'm just going to say that now. You got a lot of beef today. yeah I got a lot of beef with you, Mark, because this is not what I expected of a...
Speaker: You putting your name on a bootcamp. This is not at all what I expected. He could have done this from home. It was... Yeah, anyway. It was so... Yeah, that that's that's another topic. Yeah, I want to hear about that. and Yeah. yeah because that's actually you know i was i was all excited about this to get him can can we have him on for an interview I would love to. he i asked him he's done he you know,
Speaker: He's been in some of my recordings for. For work before yeah as like the sample student, but he's, he's he's not very, he, I said, do you want to be on the podcast today? But talk about this. he's like no so i i'll work on it all right cool awesome but yeah definitely something later All right. So I know this is mostly about challenges. so But. It's us a little brainstorm, too, of what we need. So I need to talk about the Mark Cuban thing. And Mark, you're going to have to and you go ahead. You can reply back. You've got to answer to this.
Speaker: Yes. I will make your AI bootcamp program. Better. because There you go. good Good thinking. Yeah. I'm very disappointed with...
Speaker: the way it happened. All right. And some of that's not your fault. I understand, Mark. but Just so you know. Okay. You're on notice, Mark. You're on notice, Mark.
Speaker: You can make this good. You can make this a great thing. I appreciate what you're trying to do with it. So yeah Mark Cuban Foundation. Okay. Who's now our sponsor too. They just don't, don't be phoning it in Mark.
Speaker: Yeah. That's it. all right Exactly. So. Anyway. um I gave a little sound effect there. Did you hear? No. Oh yeah. went Like the thunder or something, you know? Okay.
Speaker: All right. Well, then I think... We're set. So. As I recall then, our plans are... We're going to touch end of November. We'll touch on these challenges again. I want to talk about Mark.
Speaker: cuban there was something else that i thought you wanted to bring up too in a future one Was there... well Yeah, there was that article in the New York Times today about is the AI sentient or whatever. And I'm going to read the article.
Speaker: I've got i got a lot of say to say about this, but let's not get into it today. but Yeah. yeah All right. I just want to make sure that we, you know, so what we we're we're planning in and baiting our listeners at the same time. How's that? There you go.
Speaker: all right Well, so this has been... moving towards better. And, you know. Remember to like and subscribe wherever those buttons are. They're down here, I think. Please, we need your subscriptions and likings. Yeah, we need your subscriptions and liking.
Speaker: um Tell us what what works, what doesn't. Hey, I got no ego on this side. I love to hear, hey, man, that was really boring. Or, hey, this was awesome. Can we talk about these things? And, you know, we'd love to know.
Speaker: um I think we do need to, though, put more links into the website. Check out moving towards better with an S towards with an S yeah dot org. and we can we'll start putting resources up there. You should put this this link up there.
Speaker: So that you know they can go find their the morsel. Yeah. There you go. All right, moving towards better. dot org. There you go.
Speaker: with our fancy tech. I love it. Hopefully it's not backwards. All right. Cool. All right. Okay, so until next time. Alright.
Speaker: yes have a great day chris have enjoy everyone thank you for watching and listening Cheers. Cheers.
