Season Kick-off and Episode Changes

00:00:23
Speaker
Welcome to You Vike That! Season 2024. I'm Andy and with me as always is Jeff. Say hi, Jeff. yeah Thanks for joining me today. Thanks for listening at home. Uh, we got some feedback that last year we went a little long in the tooth. Some episodes were over an hour and 45 minutes and we are dedicated to making, uh, this season better starting with tonight. Don't you agree, Jeffrey? I do. I do.
00:00:59
Speaker
Thanks.

Challenges and Mishaps in the Draft

00:01:00
Speaker
Thanks to everyone who joined us for the live draft last week. It was a good live draft. Thanks to everyone who made it despite having every everyone.
00:01:10
Speaker
clear out their schedules, life happens. A game was delayed. A spouse got called into work. ah Tickets were were acquired for college football, you know, that were unexpected. Things happen and it's great. Glad everyone is getting out and living life, even though you weren't able to sit at home craned over your computer screen.
00:01:38
Speaker
But for those of you who missed out, there were still some highlights from this year. Uh, we're not going to take up too much of your time, but, um, if you want to hear the extended edition, just tune into last week's episode called 2024 draft. But as a preview, uh, right off the bat, we very nearly had a repeat of Kamen's shenanigans from last year. How is alen kamara r b
00:02:13
Speaker
Did you, uh, resort your, no. but just try it jake Did you sort by age? Alvin is also first in the alphabet. Yeah.
00:02:44
Speaker
Yes, yes, hilarious. Harkening back to the sorting alphabetically from 2023's draft, right, Jeffrey? Classic, classic Kamen. Classic Kamen.

Unexpected Draft Picks and Reactions

00:02:57
Speaker
But this year, Kamen dodged the bullet, and instead it was the new guy, same as one of the old guys sitting in for our wayward champion, Phil, who has taken this season off. What happened there?
00:03:12
Speaker
Hey, I wasn't here a while ago. Can I ask about Joe Flacco being drafted? Joe Flacco was drafted? Who drafted Joe Flacco? Are we coming? No. Whoever in the fuck is Bugs. I got it. Why is that man?
00:03:41
Speaker
Why is that bad? I don't know. yeah Joe Flacco's the skeleton of a
00:03:59
Speaker
He's the right tie. I mean, he's <unk>s the backup in Indy, so that's pretty high. He's in the NFL.
00:04:13
Speaker
Something's going on here. I love that Kamen after after laying into him when he exclaims, he's the backup. I kept getting worse for Kamen. Kamen remembers Joe Flacco's amazing end of last year run with the Browns. That's right. Amazing it was. Yeah.
00:04:42
Speaker
Didn't go all the way, but ah that wouldn't be the only QB controversy out of Team DX Fugg's sake. Would it? Yeah. I think Garoppolo's a backup. Kurt!
00:05:04
Speaker
just
00:05:06
Speaker
Kurt, what are you doing, buddy? Playing the long game. box
00:05:31
Speaker
And Garoppolo's suspended, so there's that as well. he ken He's suspended? Oh man. Kurt, no. How did that happen? Well, his X rank starts with a 2000. 2000.
00:06:02
Speaker
I need to go mix another drink. Again, Kamen with the, uh, and he's suspended. It just, the journey Kamen's commentary takes us on. Yeah. Yeah. He was, he was locked in on um the whole, the whole event. It should be noted that Jimmy Garoppolo was dropped immediately after the draft. For those hilarious moments and more tune into season 20, 24 episode zero.

New League Rules and Adjustments

00:06:34
Speaker
Next up, we have new league rules or rules for new leaguers. We got nine points to cover here in rapid succession just to make sure you know before you start setting your lineups, dropping players, et cetera. See the full list of rules on the Yahoo app.
00:06:54
Speaker
The very first rule worth mentioning is that this season we have two divisions, one cup champions cup that is, and we have more on that later. Um, as always last place of the regular season still gets the toaster, the schoolster. That's why Tim is currently shipping to Kamen AKA tank for toast. Even though Zach lost the postseason championships playoffs or whatever. Or whatever.
00:07:24
Speaker
Speaking of playoffs this season, the top eight are getting in the playoffs and we are working on something special for the bottom six. This year, you're going to have to earn your picking order rather than phoning in the playoffs like Zach did. And I can say that because I know Zach's not going to listen to this. More to come. ah Two days to protest the trade increased from one day of last season.
00:07:53
Speaker
And players are on waivers for two days. Also enough downvotes and the trade gets vetoed. So if you make a mistake, um, acceptance of a trade, you're going to have to start ah campaigning fast for those downvotes, which, which we consider it after Kamen, Kamen accepted that trade what last season? Yeah. That would have been really funny.
00:08:19
Speaker
Well, yeah, if you could have gotten enough people to vote down, what would he have to do? Trade some first for thirds or what? Offer more trades just to get people to vote it down. good No draft pick trades, but they'll be back next season. Basically, uh, we have a Kurtz, Kurtz keeping the C warm for Phil. So we wanted it. We wanted it to, uh, not give, uh, fill it, uh,
00:08:48
Speaker
complete turd burger next year. Yeah, like not that we thought the curd would do that, but you know just sense keep it in guardrails. Some people like turd burgers too. That's true. you know um Speaking of trades, counter offers are now allowed. It seems like they weren't before the way some of you rushed to accept every single offer from Brian. Shots fired! Shots fired!
00:09:18
Speaker
Use that counter button, people. Everyone has one icon or spot. That isn't always abundantly clear. There's a couple of people right now that have a player on their regular roster that can't be IR'd. We're talking to you, Cameron. So just check your roster. And if you have someone who is injured or is on the commissioner's exempt list, even though they're not going to be ah injured for the first week, but you want to use that game, that space to get yourself in that extra person, because maybe another wide receiver on your roster is going to get suspended tomorrow. You know, you can do that.
00:10:01
Speaker
Have fun, play with it. you know When you click on that person, the IRR slot should light up as a swappable position if it is an option for that player. I'd like to cover keepers here since we got some new players, new managers in the league. You're only eligible to keep a player that you drafted.
00:10:29
Speaker
at the expense of next year's pick two rounds higher. So when you're deciding who to drop, and this is going to be tougher this year because our bench is two positions smaller. When you're deciding who to drop, keep that in mind. If they pop off at the end of the season, you're going to regret it. Jeff, we got one more.
00:10:52
Speaker
Yeah, the biggest change this year in the spirit of, may the best team win, playing against the median score. So you'll get one point for your head to head victory or your head to head match up every week. And then you'll also be matched up against the median score. And so what that means is, let's say you have the second highest score for the week, but you played against in the head to head, the number one score.
00:11:17
Speaker
Uh, you will be higher than the median score. So on that week, you'd lose to number one, but you beat the median score. So you'd go one on one on the week. And the person who beat you would go to a no. Yep. Yep.
00:11:32
Speaker
Just, uh, just a way to mitigate some of those bad beats with a larger, with a larger league. We thought it was a ah good way to help people, um, stay engaged, but also, you know, there's going to be, there's going to be some times when some, you play against somebody that, uh, with only four bench spots, if they, if they have a bad bye week, they're not gonna, you know, they might not want to dump five guys. Yeah.
00:12:02
Speaker
Well, thanks again for for all the rules. Just check out the Yahoo app. Hit us up on the Rules Talk channel on Discord. If you have any questions, ah there's a 70% chance we'll know the answer. And if we don't know the answer, there's a 60% chance we'll figure it out for you. So hit us up on the appropriate channel at Maxa, and we can proceed too.

Payouts what

Awards and Payouts Explained

00:12:30
Speaker
everybody's really here for screw camaraderie. We're here for the money Jeff we talked about this in the pre-show. Yeah, we've got about 560 bucks As long as everyone pays their dues which still hasn't happened you're gonna hear from me later ah So after after this episode should we start every episode with a recap of who hasn't paid? Yeah, just no one knows top of the show before the song even. And we'll ask them to turn off the show before they hear the kicking theme song. Yeah. Right. That's what I think. So now that we have divisions, we decided that the regular season champion of each division is going to get $55. Otherwise known as 55.
00:13:25
Speaker
Double nickel. Um, that's great. You know, cause then they're going to make $15. That's right. You make 15 over what you're buying was your buying was 40. Now I have third place in the playoffs skits. How much Jeffrey? $70. 70 bucks. Second place. $100 basically like carrying doubles. And for the playoff champion.
00:13:53
Speaker
$160 for the playoff champion. So keep in mind, you can get the regular season champ money and the playoff champ money. Oh, you can stack, you can stack money on money. Dollars on dollars, right? That's pretty sweet.
00:14:10
Speaker
It is, it can work out very well for you. That would be a hundred and I mean, sorry, 250 bucks. Yeah. too fat math So you're on top of that, you could win awards too, right? nay That's right. Those of you doing math at home realize we got 120 bucks left. So we are announcing.
00:14:31
Speaker
Uh, the end of season awards are now doubling. Whoa, not not not $7, not a, not nine, nine, 50, not even. Well, what are the 10 bones, baby? Bo per award.
00:14:49
Speaker
All right. Now we'll probably write these down somewhere like on the discord so you can reference it later, but we're going to go through them a rapid fire. Or is that just lookdi look at matt Max's memento style tattoo on the back of his radar.
00:15:04
Speaker
That's right. That he, um, he got installed live on our podcast, uh, season six, last season, episode six, last season before he was even in the league. Right. That's how he proved his dedication. He was trying to talk us into. We said, prove it. And boy, howdy. Did he ever, that's what we say in Texas a lot. Boy, howdy. So, uh, these are the.
00:15:35
Speaker
I should have known I was setting myself up for that, Jeffrey. I wasn't as quick as I wanted to be. So if you make your $215 from finishing the regular season in first place of your division and winning the playoffs, then you could also go on and win all 12 of these end of season awards for an extra $120. That brings your potential to $1,000.
00:16:02
Speaker
three hundred and thirty five 335 bucks for your $40 entry fee. So here are the $10 awards we will be dishing out at the end of the season and most of them we should be tracking during the season as well if we're doing our jobs right. Number one on the list, beast mode. This is most points by an active player in one game.
00:16:26
Speaker
Number two on your bench. It doesn't count. Yeah. Have to be active. Have to be at Jeffrey number two, bad luck. We got to get a better name for that. Most points scored in the losing effort. Oh, I love that one yeah because at least you got 10 bucks out of it. Right. Uh, bad. Um, we'll think about it. Next up, Wheaties box highest scoring player overall. We just look at this at and the end of the season. We sort players by fantasy points. And if that guy's on your roster, 10 bucks.
00:16:57
Speaker
Uh, the next one we've been kicking around new names for this. Um, I thought that we could name it after a manager that's quit. Um, you know, uh, you call it the Clancy award or the David Pearson or any know any sticks. Yeah. Sticks and the sticks. Uh, most points left on the bench, um, it can be a worst manager.
00:17:23
Speaker
Yeah, this one, this one is a labor of love it's my labor of love, because I love looking at ah with your with your roster if you had arranged it differently.
00:17:38
Speaker
You know, how many points could you have had? When was the victory sitting on your bench? It's probably not gonna be as often anymore now that our bench is smaller, but I'm willing to stick it out one more season and do those calculations for the league that I love. We thank you for that one, Andy. Thank you. Next up, we got the Oracle. This one's tough, guys. You gotta go on your computer.
00:18:04
Speaker
And you've got to pick fantasy winners. I honestly haven't tried it on the app this year. Have you tried it on the app this year? No, they did. We're not going to try it live. Redesign the app. Yeah, that's true. Brand new app. Uh, iOS, Android, um, and Linux. They made a Linux app, mobile app. Uh, they called it new app who dis.
00:18:26
Speaker
ye but So anyway, you got you got to go online to get that one. ah the next The next award is called Eat My Dust, the largest margin of victory. This one could be interesting this year, like I've seen earlier, with four players on the bench, smaller larger league, smaller bench, could have some wild swings where people have three, four, five guys on the buy. And they're like, eh, I can't replace Joe Flacco this week. If I drop him, someone will pick him up. I'm going to keep him, even though Jimmy Garoppolo and Andy Dalton aren't playing as well. right um and And then in this hypothetical world, that three quarterbacks on my bench would mean that I just don't have anyone else to replace me.
00:19:20
Speaker
That's a really good example, Jeff. I'm sure it applies to most of the managers in this league. Yeah. Those eat my dust, correct? Yes, correct. Next we have close but no cigar. This is the smallest margin of defeat.
00:19:36
Speaker
Okay. This is, this is different than most points scored in a losing effort. Okay. This is when you lose by the narrowest margin. And we've seen some pretty narrow ones, haven't we Jeffrey? We have. just And just to, just to reconfirm for people, these are all in the head to heads, not the median score. You know, this is in the head to head matchup. If you lose to the median score by 0.001 points, um, you can cry to somebody else.
00:20:03
Speaker
Yeah, cry us a river. Last season, the winner of closest loss lost by 0.62 points. That was Nick Funker losing to Tom Nagel in week four. Brutal, but $5 and this year it'd be $10. That's right. That's basically a lot to do somewhere. I'm sure. I hope it happens for you this year, Nick. So you can double your money. I hope you get beat by 0.05 points this year. Get that cash. Yeah. What's up next?
00:20:37
Speaker
Hey big spender. That's right. The biggest waiver spender, uh, waiver reach, uh, it gets, it's $10 now. And Andy, so the the way this one works, right? Is it's the fab budget is a hundred dollars, right? Yep. So whoever spends the most, uh, over anyone else on one player on one player gets, gets the Hey big spender award. Is that, is that how we do it?
00:21:07
Speaker
Yeah, that's, that's basically it. So if you, if you put 50 on somebody and the next best is the next best bid is five and you've won it by $45 you spent way too much, but you're currently the leader most likely for the $10 award. Um, similarly.
00:21:30
Speaker
The next award is for shrewd dude. This is when you actually bid well. Uh, this is the closest waiver win um over $5. And if there's a tie, it goes to the highest, um, winning bid. So if you're bidding in the twenties and someone bids 19 and that's, you got a pretty good chance of winning this, winning this prize.
00:21:57
Speaker
Sure. Yeah. Instead of being $6 and $5, we're saying right if ah if someone bids $11 and $10, $11 and $10 would be the victor in this situation. But if someone bid $99 and someone else bid $98 in the final week, you know both trying to pick up the same player, that would be probably potentially someone one would win the shrewd dude.
00:22:26
Speaker
And yeah, big spender. So good call. And the, um, that's a good point there. 29, 25 bucks over 19 would not win the award. What if there's a six over a five, right? Yeah. That's, that's the jam, right? We'll figure it out. Then the next award is called them's the breaks. That's the most points against. Um, so that means that you've faced.
00:22:55
Speaker
the best teams basically in the league and, uh, shit happens. So, you know, Yeah. If, if they want to be the best woo, they've got to beat the best. Am I right, Rick? That's right. You are. You are. If I, if I was quick and not drinking water, I should have backed out.
00:23:21
Speaker
Uh, I might've had a real flavor. We do have video for the recording. I could have stopped. That's that sentence when I saw you drinking. I'm sorry, Jeffrey. Um, similarly to most points against is overpowered. Uh, let's, let's rename that to like giga chat or something. Sure. What do you think? Yeah. Um, I found this sound bite while we were looking and it just makes me chuckle so much. Kind of play real quick.
00:23:50
Speaker
what's this What's this NA marker? Where is it?
00:24:03
Speaker
yeah
00:24:08
Speaker
Sorry, Kim. Feel free to make as many soundbites as you need. All right. The last, the last there's listeners who follow the show will know that those clips were from tra night twenty twenty three draft 2023. Yep. The, uh, the last award is hardware collector. That's the person who picks up the most Yahoo trophies during the season.
00:24:38
Speaker
Yes, check it out. ah we're We're not going to go through all the trophies today, but there's a lot you can pick up just for utilizing the app, utilizing the website, looking around. You know, this can be a real sleeper prize coming out of the work woodwork here, but having a great team is it the best way to win this award. All right, that's it for the end of season awards.

Team Drafts and New Divisions

00:25:07
Speaker
Now you guys thought the draft was over. But after Kamen pointed out that we have divisions and that's a new thing. Jeff and I decided we should have drafts on drafts on drafts. That's right. For those of you who.
00:25:27
Speaker
selected your lineup based on the division you're in. I'm sorry. It's back to the drawing board because Jeff and I are about to split everybody up. We're going to claim two different divisions ourselves. We're going to draft our fantasy teams and we're going to pit our divisions against one another.
00:25:48
Speaker
for I don't know bragging rights. Um, I'm even happy to switch the commissioner and co-commissioner title for a season. So Jeff, you can enjoy all the spoils that come with this vaunted throne. That sounds, sounds perfect.
00:26:06
Speaker
So we got 14 teams, Jeffrey. And I'm going to make you pick your own team first. So naturally, my first pick will also have to be my team. So what would you like with your second ah pick? And if if you want to share your reasoning, please do. Sure. I i ah
00:26:37
Speaker
All right. So for my second pick, I will pick the five O firsts. Whoa. Hey reason for that. Um, hit a random number generator and picked the team that was second on the list that I had here. Yeah.
00:27:05
Speaker
That's a good, that's a good pick. Uh, let's see. I'm going to go with, I'm going to go with the, with the nug cause nug. He had the first pick in the draft. Um, so that's the first pick or a second pick in my heart. Okay. Um, my next pick, I am going to pick, uh, the NBA.
00:27:34
Speaker
I, I love basketball and, um, it's just my favorite thing. So go with NBA. That's a great pick now, Jeff, I should remind you, uh, that, you know, some things bragging rights at the very least are on the line here. And sure we are going to figure out how our divisions match up, whether it's general points.
00:27:58
Speaker
or or head-to-head, something like that. We'll figure it out as the as the season goes on, but we're not going to spend too much time on it. Yeah, no. I mean, so when I'm picking when i'm picking Tim's team, I know it's an even year, and Tim has won half of the league titles in even years. So I'm going good. So I felt like Tim was the obvious first choice. And then you took the number one draft selection person yeah from the most recent draft. So I countered you with the NBA. Fucking better league than the NFL. So, okay. I appreciate the insight. Uh, for my next pick, I'm going to take now that we have the median score, I think he's been, um, I think this, this rule change will benefit him the most. I'm taking the Lance Corporal.
00:28:52
Speaker
Oh, nice. Nice. Um, so my next pick, um, might be going off the board a little bit, but, uh, we love you, Cody Craig. Thanks for being you. Yep. Uh, see you too. Uh, that's right. Uh, off the board early. Um, wow. So you got one of the new guys I'm.
00:29:17
Speaker
I'm going to have to go with a new guy myself, then I'm going to have to take, uh, orangey glad. I'm thinking Matt's been watching, waiting, you know, he's ready to strike and he's in like 50 leagues. So I really think not only are we going to get the majority of his attention, yeah but also that he's the most practiced. Right. Got the experience. Um, interesting. So on that experience front, uh, I'm going to go with the the night hours. Um,
00:29:48
Speaker
Uh, he's a teacher. There's really nothing else to say. Preach. I mean, teach. Yeah. All right. That's a, that's a decent pick. Um, you know, I think everyone drafted live this, this draft for the most part, wouldn't you say? Oh, you're taking my guy, aren't you? Okay. Uh, think, I think, you know, he's, he's perennial. Um,
00:30:18
Speaker
he's He's always in the conversation for the top four. I'm taking the steel house. ah I wanted to leave him on the board as long as I could, because i you already had Thunker. And so then you know those two guys are just arch nemesis of each other. So I felt like it's only right that they would have to face off in the same division. So sir that's funny.
00:30:45
Speaker
oh So, so this next guy that I am thinking about taking, um, no matter what side or what division he gets placed in, he's going to have family matters. Um, so it's true. Uh, so I think I'm going to go with what's my AJ again,
00:31:09
Speaker
formerly adjust these nuts. Yeah. which we made him say so many times the draft night that he changed his name of sheer embarrassment. But that embarrassment doesn't apply to his brother-in-law on the other side, Seahawk Tua. Congrats. What's AJ again? That's what I'm wrong. What's my AJ again? It's good. He's good. This good. Okay, let's see. Who's left? Who's left?
00:31:45
Speaker
Yeah, this is, you know, we're getting right down to it. I think, uh, I think he was so embarrassed last year that, um, that it can only go up from here. So, uh, it hurts on IP.
00:32:07
Speaker
That's not my pick, I was just sharing with you that it hurts when I pee. I think I'm gonna take Kamen's team. Kamen's team, okay. There's two teams left.
00:32:20
Speaker
And I had to quickly X out the team names so I could see who was who is between. um And I think it's really, it's simple.
00:32:37
Speaker
DX fugs ache is coming to the expect to lose division and we're gonna be champions that's a that's a bold choice Jeffrey yeah we do know in the in the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king. And the at the rate at which quarterbacks can get injured, maybe the guy with three is is the right guy.
00:33:15
Speaker
So my division, the little Lebowski's urban achievers, is happy to take Monday Garfield into the fold to put down the expect to loose France. We have it guys, we're gonna we're gonna resort these before air. We're gonna name these divisions take some pride in your division. All right, Jeff and I spent a lot of a lot of time and resources scouting you and making these selections and there's a lot on the line here for the two of us so
00:33:59
Speaker
It's time for our wrap up, Jeff.

If this poster is any inspiration, I think we'll draft as much as we can this year, right? Draft on draft on draft. Thanks, Jeff. Good for a show. Thank you.
00:35:23
Speaker
Jeff, why do you keep moving your mouth and I don't hear you? Do you know that we don't hear you? You're just trying to fuck with me? I literally have not heard Jeff's voice this entire experience.
00:35:39
Speaker
so the
00:35:43
Speaker
And that might be the artistic choice that I respect.
