It is the finale of The Fantasy Corner from us here at TFRY. The response from it was great, so yes we will make this a regular thing next season. On this variation we discuss a few e-mailers, and believe it or not, we helped someone reach a final, YAY! We also talk about the top point scorers in draft style fantasy rugby for Super Rugby. Also, what would the perfect team look like in FRD this year? We'll tell you the dream fantasy Super Rugby FRD team.

Manual vs Automatic Stats Collection

00:00:08
Speaker
I do want to kind of go through some of the emails. We got some nice emails. Freddie emailed us from New Zealand again. Thanks again for the point stats. Helpful. He asked if we do it manually or if it's stats done automatically.
00:00:30
Speaker
and it's by hand we did so there's human error involved let's put it that way heavily involved yes big time um um he wants to know so basically like he's so if somebody can get on this let's put it this way
00:00:47
Speaker
looking for statistical anomalies, big plays that SkewCat scores, and also like home versus away in New Zealand, in Australia, in South Africa, doesn't, you know, doing that and then like weather. I was like,
00:01:03
Speaker
Yes, those would all be very useful, but we don't have that.

Comparing Fantasy Stats: Rugby vs Football

00:01:07
Speaker
Maybe one day, but right now we don't have that available at our fingertips. Yeah, that's a great idea, and that's something that you see on your standard fantasy football website in America. Absolutely. It'll tell you information like that. Actually, it might not even break it down as far as the weather of the game, but it'll tell you what the weather is for the game coming up, so you can kind of make your decisions there.
00:01:29
Speaker
Um, but that's a little different because it's football and yeah, you know if it's shitty wide receivers probably aren't going to score as high, right? We we aren't quite there yet. No and rugby. It's kind of different like that. Um But yeah, like the home away and and and in different areas. Yeah, that's what that's doable It's just with a lot more effort. Yeah, absolutely. So there was that Um, so thanks again for the email freddy. We appreciate it.

Trading Advice: Rona and Phipps

00:01:52
Speaker
Thank you. Uh, cobas, he made the final yeah
00:01:56
Speaker
yeah I don't know if I don't know if I helped him with this one anyway so here's the back-and-forth this is my team I can get I can get Rona for a shimaki or whoever done it up I said yeah go get Rona
00:02:13
Speaker
It might have been a bad idea. I said, yeah, go get Rona. You can ditch BL for him since he's broken. You also could play Billy Meeks, who ended up turning in a decent day and Sonny Bill's a decent day. So if he played Rona and either one of those, he got like 16, 15, 16 points between the two of those guys. Not great. He had Vermok first halfback.
00:02:37
Speaker
And Vermak scored like 0.6. And I said, do you have another half pack option? And he said, Nick Phipps, I was like, oh, Nick Phipps is out there. Nick Phipps scored negative points. Yeah. Oops. Better with the 0.6. So anyway, my bad. But I mean, if you look at the two of those, do you think Nick Phipps or Vermak, like naked eye, like just
00:03:01
Speaker
Oh, you assume Phipps is going to. Right. So that's why. And that was my advice. I was like, just get Phipps because he's he is one of the top school was one of the top scoring backs this year. We'll go over who the top top. You know what? He just had a shit match. Yes, he did. He did. Sorry.

Last-Minute Advice: Dupree vs Iglesias

00:03:15
Speaker
Yeah, absolutely. Look, we can't account for when the studs, when the guys who you probably shouldn't pass up starting, they're going to have to have a shit game. And then I told him to trade out Halant for Sonatla that end up being about a dead draw.
00:03:29
Speaker
So, I don't know what the result of it is, but that's okay. One guy asked for a lot, Jamie, thank you Jamie, asked for some last-minute decisions. I think he was also thinking that I was still awake. It was 12.30 at night that he emailed me, give or take.
00:03:47
Speaker
I was like dude, I am if you don't know I'm on the East Coast of the US I was probably asleep when you email this, you know asking for Some advice Yeah, I wish so I don't know if
00:04:05
Speaker
Iglesias or Dupree ended up being that was the one thing that was down to I think it was just Dupree because Dupree Was playing the next day and Iglesias hadn't played yet. So I was just like don't play Dupree because he was kind of garbage He's kind of a garbage. Yeah, most of the most of the year basically since he lost his job And Let's see
00:04:29
Speaker
Well, we had 3.9 for Iglesias and 9.2 for Dapria. So whoops. I was, I was zero for whatever on that. That's not even neither of those are particularly good score. I mean, obviously the, the lesser ones is not the optimal, but still if you're looking at getting nine points, you're not really, you know, if that's what, if that's what it comes down to, you don't, you probably didn't win anyway. You probably didn't win. Um,
00:04:57
Speaker
So yeah, that's that one. Anyway, thank you, Jamie, Cobus, Fred, and thank you for emailing

Season Closing and Future Anticipation

00:05:03
Speaker
us. We appreciate it, as always. Unfortunately, there's no more emails to be had this year, but that's okay. We had fun with it while we were doing it.

Top Fantasy Rugby Players of the Season

00:05:11
Speaker
More next year, hopefully. So let's do...
00:05:16
Speaker
Let's do everybody's favorite team. Everybody's favorite team. Everybody's number one fantasy team for this year. And I can tell you which ones were best at which positions in terms of points scored. So your front row lions. Yep. Yeah, I know. I was like, Malcolm marks kind of makes that makes that one go. I would I would have guessed hurricanes if dinkles have been healthy. Right. If dinkles have been healthy.
00:05:39
Speaker
Yeah, that's always a different story. Yeah. So your your lock, your number one lock based on points was by just a fraction. Scott Barrett. Oh, yeah. But it's like, but really like the average is like seven. It is like seven to eight points is the average for a lock. That's a high end, too, by the way. Yeah, you get it. You get a one off with like 15. But yeah. Yeah. And then you get ones that are like two. So yeah. Good luck guessing that one. So that's your lock.
00:06:09
Speaker
Your top loose forwards to play this year would have been I'm sure you can guess party. Yep. Yeah and dandy prayer, huh?
00:06:20
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. Quagga Smith was right behind. Quagga Smith obviously had

Perfect FRD Fantasy Team Lineup

00:06:24
Speaker
a really unfortunate injury to end his year. Um, but yeah, Quagga Smith was right behind them. Um, your half back, your half back of the year. Uh, any guesses? Weber. Number two. Oh, who was number one? Gania. Oh yeah. That's a, that's a good one. Well, Gania and then, and then TJ Parr and I was, was behind them.
00:06:44
Speaker
Right. I knew TJ wasn't number one. No, because I had close and he was disappointing too many times. Damn close. But yeah, well, that's some great matches, but he's had a bunch fly half the bit. This is definitely like the quarterback position of this of this league. I definitely figured that one out right now. No surprise, but just saying in terms of points that are produced, this is definitely the guy that can score you a shit ton of points. I had one that was pretty good. Yeah. So I would guess that he would be number one.
00:07:10
Speaker
Nope. Oh, he's three. Damn. Yeah. Average. He was up there, but in terms of average, but his total points, he was number three. Okay. Um, Andre Paul out from the balls. Long goes between the two of them.
00:07:23
Speaker
Fascinating. Okay. Yeah big time, right? So yeah, that's your that's your for your perfect Fantasy team for FRD. That's your that's your starting fly half right there. Midfield you get two of them Guesses. Oh shit. Um Guessing them up. He's up there. Yep. He's number two and uh, uh
00:07:45
Speaker
I can't wouldn't be Leonard Brown. Number three. OK, I don't know who. Samuel Kirby. OK, the Reds. Yeah, yeah. Fucking Red Sea. Yep. And I wouldn't be surprised if Hagerty was up there for outside backs. Well, let's find out to do outside backs. Number one. Not I don't think you'd be Hagerty would be number one. I'm just saying he'd be. So you play three. Yeah. So you need you need three outside backs. Right. So you guess in Hagerty.
00:08:14
Speaker
No, I don't think he was top three. I think he's he's probably top 10. Okay. I'm guessing Masarewa would be up there, but then again, he had a lot of negatives too. He's five. Yeah. He's five. You're close. I don't know. I'm blanking. Not an eyes one. Oh, yeah. Same country. Keep going down the list in your head. Shit. Oh, fuck.
00:08:44
Speaker
No, i'm i'm i'm not i'm coming up empty david havili is number three. Okay, and he guesses us too, but lands between him No, barse haggerty. Oh, it was haggerty's number two. Yeah, he's holy shit. He's number two. I would not have guessed that Obviously, I thought he would be top 10. But yep, so so you have the number two of the reds have the
00:09:04
Speaker
Number two overall outside back, number two overall outside midfielder with a little, like we said, will run for human error over here. So yeah, your perfect FRD team this year would have included the Lions, Scott Barrett, Arty, Dan Dupria, Andre Paulard, Will Genia.
00:09:26
Speaker
Karevi, Lamape, Hagerty, Nanai, and Haveli. So yeah, I mean, and Haveli wasn't somebody that was high on my radar, and neither was the likes of Nanai, obviously. So those are the two bolters that came out of nowhere, for sure. So if you happen to scoop them up mid-season, or you drafted them, good on you.

Ryans Grotty's Championship Win

00:09:49
Speaker
Congratulations to our FRD champion, our Can't Watch, Can't Bear It, Bansi Rugby Yanks League, Ryans Grotty,
00:09:57
Speaker
has won our championship, so good on him. Beat our other finalist, was it Chumps? Yes, it was Chumps. 122.9 to 105.8. He had, oh, this was actually something I was paying attention to too, because I was interested. Gratty had Mac McPimpy, oops, Samaki who did well, Skosan who didn't even start, Rona, Talia who did well, Pollard, that was the one that got him over the line.
00:10:25
Speaker
Brad Weber also didn't hurt, Luke Whitelock, Dan Duprea, again, as we just talked about, one of the top ones in the world, Snehman, who actually ended up with minus two because he got a yellow card. And the Bulls front row, which didn't do too bad, 14.1. So yeah, congratulations to him. We'll be running leagues for both variations and both competitions next year. I hope he remembers this day that he has won.

Future Rugby Leagues and Plans

00:10:52
Speaker
