Jarrod Dyke: Hey everybody, welcome back. It is the Fantasy Rugby Yanks. My name is Jared Dyke.
Grumpy Old Prop: I'm Ben Glazer.
Jarrod Dyke: We're here, friends. We missed you all. Hope you missed us. Yeah, let's get cracking. We got lots to talk about. and Sadly, we didn't there's more we could talk about because we didn't get to talk about things the last couple weeks.
Grumpy Old Prop: I know ah it's rough.
Jarrod Dyke: But it is what it is. you know were We're in that stage of life where we're just going to have to just live with it.
Jarrod Dyke: especially this Especially this current time of the year where both Ben and I are both coaching as well.
Grumpy Old Prop: Right. So if we're not. coaching or working or probably sick because our frigging
Jarrod Dyke: yeah that didn't help you.
Grumpy Old Prop: bag of dork kid yeah oh bringing home germs from daycare.
Jarrod Dyke: he Yeah, they do that.
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah, they do that. So it's been, yeah.
Jarrod Dyke: Yes, they do. ah Make sure that you find us on your favorite podcast app. Download, rate, review, share. Feedback always welcome.
Jarrod Dyke: By our good friend George, the fancy where we geek a coffee or beer. He is still very busy, if you haven't noticed, because he's also not only is he covering with the women's Six Nations, he's still doing all the work for the other leagues, too, which are all now back in action because the men are no longer playing Six Nations.
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah,
Jarrod Dyke: So, yeah. Buy that man a beer. He needs a drink.
Grumpy Old Prop: yeah he deserves it.
Jarrod Dyke: We love you, George. All right. um There is no discrimination here on this podcast, nor there should be and should be in sports nor in life. as I asked, as we were talking about this pre-pod, like, what shithouse to the core the global of our country are we to go today?
Jarrod Dyke: We don't even need to leave the country for this one. these Like, we probably won't need to for the next four years, let's be honest about this.
Grumpy Old Prop: No, it's...
Jarrod Dyke: But, you know, until so someone decides to off this dude.
Grumpy Old Prop: Fucking...
Jarrod Dyke: But, you know, different story for different day.
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah.
Jarrod Dyke: um
Grumpy Old Prop: Eventually, yeah. And this dude could be ah any number of people, so... um it's It's all of them, but...
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah, so trust me, there's it's all of them, but, you know.
Grumpy Old Prop: The shit that's going down with... um Basically, like, black bagging people and taking them to el Salvador to go into, like, a prison camp... um Not really down with that, especially when it's people here legally and and you're just questioning their status because they're um their their political opposition.
Jarrod Dyke: Not white.
Grumpy Old Prop: and Or you suspect them to be gang members, even though it's just like regular people.
Jarrod Dyke: Or that.
Jarrod Dyke: Lies.
Grumpy Old Prop: And even like, yeah, it's not, this is not good.
Jarrod Dyke: Liar.
Jarrod Dyke: Nobody believes you.
Grumpy Old Prop: And the problem but with the fucked up thing is that they're using tools that people have been asking our government to dismantle for quite a while. Like this is Patriot Act stuff.
Jarrod Dyke: Right.
Grumpy Old Prop: This is and like, it's not like it's that long ago either. Right. It's like Patriot Act stuff. It's this, the immigration policies that both parties support that people don't want really, but you don't, if you don't have anything else on the ballot, well, there's not that, you know, it's just automatically policy and that's not exactly democracy for the people who say they're protecting democracy.
Jarrod Dyke: No.
Jarrod Dyke: no
Grumpy Old Prop: You might want to,
Grumpy Old Prop: put that up on the ballot.
Jarrod Dyke: There's a few ideas to throw out there, just saying.
Grumpy Old Prop: Right. So it's, um yeah, these are kind of scary times. So um I've seen plenty of countries, including Canada, be like, ah yeah, we're issuing a travel warning.
Grumpy Old Prop: Like you're not safe going to the U S it's like, you this who wants, why, why do we want this to be like this?
Jarrod Dyke: Shocker of the day, right?
Grumpy Old Prop: Like what, how do we get out of this? Because this didn't happen overnight. It's been, it's been like this.
Jarrod Dyke: no
Grumpy Old Prop: We've just been okay with it on a low level, but now it's happening on a high level. And suddenly we're shocked that, Oh my God, this actually happens. So I'm kind of starting to see why they say like a lot of Germans didn't understand that that the Holocaust was happening or they didn't believe it or or something because it's like shit like this is happening.
Grumpy Old Prop: And, you know, either Republicans are like, this is the right thing to do. Or a lot of Democrats are like, well, we can't really do anything about it, so we're just going to ignore it. was like, I could...
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah, because ignoring things never never goes badly, right?
Grumpy Old Prop: Right, and like we shouldn't dismantle the tools that are you know being used to do this. Yeah, it's not... um
Grumpy Old Prop: It's not healthy. So I'm hoping that, as you said, there would be there are other ways for people to hand for for um for this to happen democratically, let's say.
Jarrod Dyke: No.
Grumpy Old Prop: um And hopefully, you know, it's a it's a ballot box democratically.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah, please.
Grumpy Old Prop: That would be preferable.
Jarrod Dyke: the It's the easiest. It's easy things to do, you know?
Grumpy Old Prop: But that's, you know.
Jarrod Dyke: Love hanging fruit and all.
Grumpy Old Prop: I mean, the problem is if nothing if that doesn't happen, then There's the inevitable and let's kind of I prefer to avoid that, but I don't think we're smart enough to.
Jarrod Dyke: well Yeah, we all fucked.
Jarrod Dyke: I'm not convinced that's happening. Let's put it that way.
Grumpy Old Prop: Not not yet.
Jarrod Dyke: No, no, no. No.
Grumpy Old Prop: But, um you know.
Jarrod Dyke: know
Grumpy Old Prop: Everyone like loves Mario and Luigi. So there's that.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah. Right.
Jarrod Dyke: Please. All right.
Grumpy Old Prop: Rugby stuff.
Jarrod Dyke: Let us, yeah. To the rugby stuff.
Grumpy Old Prop: Oh, get our Patreon.
Jarrod Dyke: Women, six nations recap.
Grumpy Old Prop: There's cool stuff on it.
Jarrod Dyke: Oh yeah. Grab our Patreon.
Grumpy Old Prop: If you like fantasy rugby.
Jarrod Dyke: We love you. Okay. Bye. Um, it's important, but it's not that important. Um,
Jarrod Dyke: So, Women's Six Nations for opening round, obviously, um filled with some excitement, really, especially on the Saturday games. Man, if Ireland could land a goddamn kick to save their life, they win this game.
Grumpy Old Prop: That was, and yeah, they, it is, but from where they've come from to where they are is, i don't know.
Jarrod Dyke: It was disheartening.
Jarrod Dyke: Mm-hmm.
Grumpy Old Prop: I feel like I have to take, cause I'm, I feel like I'm kind of living this in a lot of ways. like you have to, mean, France has been the the second team in this for, for a long time. And it's been a fight to see who's three. And I think it still is. But the thing is, this tells me like, at least these results are that they're between all of these teams, there's not that much difference.
Jarrod Dyke: Right.
Grumpy Old Prop: And like, I wouldn't, and I i still think England and and France are probably a little bit above everyone else, but
Grumpy Old Prop: You know, this was tighter than 12-point game. It didn't feel like a 12-point game. This felt like ah like a four-point loss. Like, ah oh, man, if we just scored a try. i mean, mostly because it's if you hit your kicks, that's kind of how it would have been.
Jarrod Dyke: Right. Well, Boulard got one right at the end, which of was just nail in the coffin.
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah.
Jarrod Dyke: But you you got believe that if
Grumpy Old Prop: That's right.
Jarrod Dyke: If Ireland have the lead after the wafer try, the second one... Yeah,
Grumpy Old Prop: so Yeah. Yeah.
Jarrod Dyke: yeah she's a monster. Lord. um You got to believe that if they have the lead after that second one, that they're this, and they believe.
Grumpy Old Prop: Yep.
Jarrod Dyke: And then you have the, you know, horse-legged bourgeois hit the penalty, and then you have bullard try, and then she converts it well. So it just really just throws the old salt into the room.
Grumpy Old Prop: who
Jarrod Dyke: I do like what... the Irish coach said and know how he they're not willing to take this as a moral victory. They they they want better.
Grumpy Old Prop: no yep
Jarrod Dyke: They want better. And I appreciate that. You know, that's that's what you need when you're you're you're not
Grumpy Old Prop: um
Jarrod Dyke: You're not quite there. You know you you could have the talent.
Grumpy Old Prop: They're better than that.
Jarrod Dyke: It's not quite there.
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah, right.
Jarrod Dyke: So I appreciate that about out of them. So, I mean, yeah. Don't sleep on Ireland. They will bite you. And they'll go poorly.
Grumpy Old Prop: Yep.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah, I thought... And there was so there were so many super close moments for them to break a big one. And, you know, they ended up getting the two close-range ones Ireland did. But...
Jarrod Dyke: And there was just so many moments where like, oh, one more good pass and they're in and yeah they're just missing that little bit of skill set. And it's like, no, come on, please. For all of us, we're all here cheering for you.
Grumpy Old Prop: Seriously. we Yeah. We all were. um Actually, it's funny because I talked to um the the the president of of the... um of the BU club and he's, he's Irish.
Grumpy Old Prop: And I mentioned this game. He's like, I can't, he's like, I can't do Irish rugby right now. Like they're killing me. It doesn't matter. It doesn't matter.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah.
Grumpy Old Prop: Men doesn't matter. Women, they're just killing me. And, um, and yeah.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah. Poor fellow.
Grumpy Old Prop: And he was talking about, yeah.
Jarrod Dyke: That's pain and suffering right there. That's what that is.
Grumpy Old Prop: Um, needless to say, I'm very proud of him and in a lot of ways. I'm yeah. He's a good kid.
Jarrod Dyke: ah Good.
Grumpy Old Prop: Um,
Jarrod Dyke: young Young man watching yeah watching support his irish fellow Irish brother, their men or women.
Grumpy Old Prop: Right. And he was even talking about how they you know they need to get a higher level of professionalism in their in their club teams. He's like, because you can't just go to the UK to to play good rugby.
Grumpy Old Prop: ah We need to keep it here. And i'm like, holy shit. Like, he's actually, it's not even that he just watches the, the yeah, he's like, okay, he watches all of them.
Jarrod Dyke: You've given them some thought there, young man.
Grumpy Old Prop: Got it. That makes sense. That actually doesn't surprise me, although it did.
Jarrod Dyke: Good for him.
Grumpy Old Prop: but I was like, I don't That surprised me.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah, I mean, you never know.
Grumpy Old Prop: Well, it shouldn't, but okay. Yeah. um
Jarrod Dyke: You hope, but, man, you never know.
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah, right. So, all right, I'm done bragging about my my club president that I like a lot.
Jarrod Dyke: um
Jarrod Dyke: You're young man in there. Yeah, fine. You'll show want. Yeah, so I'm really, you know, I wish I had caught more of Scotland-Wales game.
Jarrod Dyke: I was kind of in and out of it, but obviously it was very competitive.
Grumpy Old Prop: Mm-hmm.
Jarrod Dyke: Double red for George Evans. Come on. Come on. Come on.
Grumpy Old Prop: Come on.
Jarrod Dyke: Poor.
Jarrod Dyke: ah But if we head over to York, the scoreline doesn't paint the entire picture.
Jarrod Dyke: For um the saint this game, England and Italy. I understand. like Just assume that Italy are super under-resourced compared to England. like That shouldn't shock anyone at this point.
Grumpy Old Prop: Right.
Jarrod Dyke: But still, like that second half... It's something to hang your hat on, for sure. If you're Italy. Yeah, they had a couple of tall back, but yeah...
Grumpy Old Prop: One try at the end. Yeah.
Jarrod Dyke: yeah i'm I'm extremely happy with that second half, first half less so, obviously. They just couldn't get the fuck of their own way.
Grumpy Old Prop: yeah No, they really just... they They bumbled a lot, which kind of sucks because it's one of those... you know You're trying to play with... um play it wide and play with skill, and and there are days when it just...
Jarrod Dyke: Mm-hmm.
Grumpy Old Prop: It's not happening, and it looks like that, and it sucks, because I think if they had little bit tighter passing, a little bit better decision-making,
Grumpy Old Prop: um this could have been... I mean, like they had opportunities. It's just they they kind of fucked them, and then ah England scored, and not...
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah.
Grumpy Old Prop: ah
Grumpy Old Prop: I feel bad for Italy more than Ireland right now.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah.
Grumpy Old Prop: It's tough times no matter what. the This is, i think this is a little bit of a ah kick in the ass for them because I think they had assumed they would do better.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah, you might be right about that.
Grumpy Old Prop: i think they, I think they thought they were ready for, for a step up and it's just not happening yet.
Jarrod Dyke: and They may have just assumed a little too much. Mm-hmm.
Grumpy Old Prop: Or at least not, not this weekend.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah. We had, um
Jarrod Dyke: it wasn't a barrier broken because I know it's been happened before, but um nice to see fresh blood in the refereeing shirts. Pisani, the Zimbabwean, right?
Grumpy Old Prop: ye
Jarrod Dyke: Yep, Zimbabwean. That's the one. um Referee for, that was in this this one actually. And then um obviously our girl, Cat Roach, just doing what she does best over
Grumpy Old Prop: isn
Jarrod Dyke: on Saturday. So love it. Love everything about it. Good stuff. Good stuff. So yeah.
Grumpy Old Prop: And I didn't have much to say about the refereeing.
Jarrod Dyke: and
Grumpy Old Prop: Like, I don't think it impacted Ireland, France. I think it,
Jarrod Dyke: No.
Grumpy Old Prop: it
Jarrod Dyke: Well, I think they got, I think the one decision they got, they need to get right. They got it.
Grumpy Old Prop: Exactly. The one that really mattered, they got.
Jarrod Dyke: I was watching it and I'm like, this is not going to stay yellow.
Grumpy Old Prop: boom
Jarrod Dyke: This is red.
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah.
Jarrod Dyke: This is a hundred percent red. Sure enough. Yep.
Grumpy Old Prop: Yep.
Jarrod Dyke: Red guard.
Grumpy Old Prop: Mm hmm.
Jarrod Dyke: I'm like, yeah, okay. There you go. Problem solved. Saw that coming a mile away. Yeah. was just a poor tackle technique too. i was like, oh that is, it looked ugly live.
Jarrod Dyke: I'm like, that's coming back.
Grumpy Old Prop: Right.
Jarrod Dyke: That's a hundred percent coming back.
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah, and that was like they played on for a little bit.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah.
Grumpy Old Prop: and I'm like, um, ah um excuse me.
Jarrod Dyke: hu
Grumpy Old Prop: um
Jarrod Dyke: Holly, Holly, we have a problem here.
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah, come on. Yeah, you might want to get eyes on that.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah, they got it.
Grumpy Old Prop: Okay, good.
Jarrod Dyke: They got it. So there the upside of this tournament as well is like England are trialing some of their World Cup venues. like We found out, as the commentary rightly rightfully pointed out,
Jarrod Dyke: There needs to be a second screen in York somewhere other than the opposite end of the field from where a lot the action was happening because that's, you know, referees don't need to work out that badly.
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah.
Grumpy Old Prop: yeah Yeah.
Grumpy Old Prop: No, not really.
Jarrod Dyke: you know And that also would be nice to move the process along a little quicker as well.
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah, it's not something people want to just hang around for.
Jarrod Dyke: So, yeah.
Jarrod Dyke: No, we we've been on this for a little while.
Grumpy Old Prop: Like, this isn't football. even and Yeah, like yeah i'd I'd rather you make it... like You should be able to make a decision quick. And it's one of those, like if you can't make it quickly, just like stick with the call in the field. But at the same time, like...
Grumpy Old Prop: Make a decision quickly, especially with, you know, but certain things like foul play and whatnot, but if it's like, oh, was this offside or was this this, or, you know, try or no try, like, or no, it's a try, like, is there any reason why I can't allow it?
Jarrod Dyke: Right.
Grumpy Old Prop: If you can't see anything real quick, then fucking let it go.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah, move on but move on with your world here.
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah. Is that pass forward? Let's check a million. Okay, is it cross a line? No, then if you can't really tell right away, then let a let it stand.
Jarrod Dyke: Right.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah, no.
Jarrod Dyke: yeah and Got my vote.
Grumpy Old Prop: That's the one thing that Southern Hemisphere refs actually, I think, get right more than anyone else.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah.
Grumpy Old Prop: Because it's like, okay, you know what?
Jarrod Dyke: yeah
Grumpy Old Prop: The hands are going backwards. Let it go.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah, we'll talk about forward pass a little bit anyway.
Grumpy Old Prop: Anyway, enough. I'm TMOing this shit. Let's go. Move on.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah, we'll talk about later. um Let's go Prem-wise. So this is going to be nice and tidy because neither Ben nor I could catch either of the Friday night games and we didn't go back and watch them because for me, I saw the scorelines. I was like, not worth my time.
Grumpy Old Prop: I have the ah the um Saints and Leicester on right now, and it's, I think, 13 minutes in.
Jarrod Dyke: Sorry.
Jarrod Dyke: How far in and what's the score?
Grumpy Old Prop: 13 minutes in, it was 17-0 Leicester.
Jarrod Dyke: Okay, so we're already on a roll here.
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah, so, like, remember the the Saints defense from, like, two, three years ago?
Jarrod Dyke: Two or three seasons ago, yep.
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah, yeah, there you go.
Jarrod Dyke: They're back.
Grumpy Old Prop: Picture that.
Jarrod Dyke: Yikes. Yikes, yikes, yikes.
Grumpy Old Prop: Like i JVP had a, Van Porenvliet had a long ass breakaway try where he just picked from the base of the rock and ran.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah, and then, I mean, sorry, Newcastle, I don't believe.
Grumpy Old Prop: And he scored a try from from his own end.
Jarrod Dyke: That's too easy. That's too easy.
Grumpy Old Prop: It's not, yeah.
Grumpy Old Prop: So that's how that match is going.
Jarrod Dyke: Too easy, man. Yep. There go. Exactly. what I didn't waste my time on it. Yeah, and then I just don't believe Newcastle was going to beat Sale. Although it would have been a nice story for Dimes to beat his old club, but I'm not.
Jarrod Dyke: I was not. Nope, nope, nope.
Grumpy Old Prop: No.
Jarrod Dyke: Newcastle's lost too much going going forward there, so.
Grumpy Old Prop: I feel like I might have seen a very little bit of it, but I think enough to be like, oh, I'm not watching that. I think i maybe it was like, turned it in towards the end when I got home and I was like, no, not even going to bother.
Jarrod Dyke: Never mind. Yeah. Yeah.
Jarrod Dyke: never mind
Jarrod Dyke: um
Grumpy Old Prop: So not a spoiler alert, but...
Jarrod Dyke: yeah
Grumpy Old Prop: I put this so I you know i was coaching on Saturday had had a sevens tournament so I was gone most most of the day um left at like six in the morning to go down to past New Haven um and
Jarrod Dyke: yeah
Grumpy Old Prop: like I come back and I'm like okay cool I'll watch Sari's Harlequins I'll throw that out you know i'll throw it on the TV and then Jared nudges me about like, hey, you know, the Freejacks are playing right now.
Grumpy Old Prop: um In a very subtle way, and I'm like, wait. Like, in other words, I got his text. I was like, wait, are the Freejacks playing right now? And then he checks him, yes, they are. So here I am watching both of those matches at the same time.
Jarrod Dyke: Oh, you were hating yourself after a while.
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah, that was like...
Jarrod Dyke: that That is hate watching right there. That's what that is.
Grumpy Old Prop: because and and And get this, I pause the Saras, so I'm watching in the Free Jacks live and like when they're actually playing, i pause it, the Saras game. So like I'm watching as much as I can to the Saras-Quinn's game while this game, so it's like, you know, when there's a um but a stoppage or like you know, it's coming to a scrum or there's a TMO thing that doesn't really, i didn't give a shit about like, I'll watch
Jarrod Dyke: hmm.
Grumpy Old Prop: Or, you know, they can't even show the replay. They're just like, oh, something happened. So there's nothing to see.
Jarrod Dyke: Mm-hmm.
Grumpy Old Prop: So, yeah, I'll watch the Saturdays game. And it's just like, oh, my God, both these teams are just like pooping it. Absolutely pooping it.
Jarrod Dyke: Mm-hmm.
Jarrod Dyke: Totally. Yeah. Just...
Jarrod Dyke: Someone... can't... For the sake of this Harrison's, I am... I'm at a point where it's like, all right, we're not getting anything out of the season.
Jarrod Dyke: And which was how I initially approached it.
Grumpy Old Prop: right it's the having to watch it it's the having to yes exactly that too
Jarrod Dyke: And then we started playing really well.
Jarrod Dyke: And then, and now it's like, what happened to those teams, like to those performances that we were putting in? And I get that there was a time and a place where we had guys missing and hurt, but there is no excuse for this game whatsoever.
Grumpy Old Prop: i mean they're just who laws i'm done
Jarrod Dyke: I mean, really, we need we need someone to step up with the tee first off because i don't love pens or stuff like that, but like Waz has had better day better years with the tee and for whatever reason, someone's stolen his freaking kicking boots and, you know, Burke's not really as accomplished as a kicker ah as Lossowski and i really would don't
Grumpy Old Prop: But you signed him, right? You you wanted you. You want him to be the guy. Or at least until Louis Johnson's ready, you think. But at the same time, give him the tea.
Jarrod Dyke: Possibly, yeah.
Grumpy Old Prop: What? I don't know what you're getting out Right.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah, at this point, we don't have a lot to lose.
Grumpy Old Prop: right
Jarrod Dyke: So.
Grumpy Old Prop: And also, it means that you know I love... you know Don't get me wrong. Love Laws. But the problem is he's not really fast enough or dynamic enough to be the 13.
Grumpy Old Prop: And he's not really physical or durable enough to be the 12.
Jarrod Dyke: Nope.
Grumpy Old Prop: And so it's like if you give that if you take the T away from him, it's almost like ah we need him out there. so we like he got like i don't know. like This is his best use, but... They need a dynamic 13 so badly.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah. You know, and it's too bad because I thought Tompkins actually played really well in this match for the most part and was kind of an animal.
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah.
Jarrod Dyke: I was like, that's the animal I miss.
Grumpy Old Prop: Right.
Jarrod Dyke: Like, that is the guy I've been missing for the last, you for the last four or five weeks before we went into the Six Nations break.
Grumpy Old Prop: Very much so. And Elliot made the...
Jarrod Dyke: So I'm...
Grumpy Old Prop: And Gude even, when he had to come in because, you know, I hope... ah
Jarrod Dyke: Because, yeah, I hope Parati's shoulder is okay.
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah. um But that that play that Elliot finished was... But, like, why didn't...
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah, good knew he was going to be, knew Burke was going to be there and just left it for him. He's like, all right, this is not going to, this is either going to be amazing or it's going to shit.
Grumpy Old Prop: Yep.
Grumpy Old Prop: Right.
Jarrod Dyke: Went with the first one.
Grumpy Old Prop: and And it was amazing. And, like, that's... Yes, I...
Jarrod Dyke: And the capability right there is what's frustrating. Like something like that, that the Saracens are able to pull out of the locker and we just find ways to shit the bed for 70 minutes in a whack.
Grumpy Old Prop: Mm-hmm.
Jarrod Dyke: And it's like, God.
Grumpy Old Prop: Right. All this like, okay, let's let's work to set up a box kick rather than ah let's actually give a take a shot or two. You have these talented guys. Part of that means you need to trust them to play in space a little bit.
Grumpy Old Prop: but You have to. that's like look at Look at the top teams in the in the prem.
Jarrod Dyke: Yep.
Grumpy Old Prop: It's not like...
Grumpy Old Prop: You know, it's it's not the restrained teams.
Jarrod Dyke: No.
Grumpy Old Prop: Certainly. It's not the teams with the best defense.
Jarrod Dyke: No, and including the team we played.
Grumpy Old Prop: Like, you know, Bath let it all hang out. Bristol let it all hang out. Leicester, Harley. Like, Gloucester, even. Like, you know, Sale is six. that And Saracens are seven. It kind of makes sense. Like, Saints this is crazy to me. But okay. Yeah.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah, that might be an anomaly, but it is what it is.
Grumpy Old Prop: put it this way. I don't know if you, so let's move on to the next one real quick because i want to, this segues well into that.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah.
Grumpy Old Prop: Um, is the revelation that Rob back that there's, uh, there's been a change of head coach at Exeter because Baxter wants to move in a, in a different direction.
Jarrod Dyke: But
Grumpy Old Prop: Um,
Jarrod Dyke: he's still in charge, so it doesn't matter.
Grumpy Old Prop: I agree. But at the same time, if he if he's like letting the head coach... like It's an it's the attack well an attack coach, anyway. I believe.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah.
Grumpy Old Prop: um Hopefully that means he's like... you know say Okay, we're going to play a little bit of expansive rugby. Because they kind of but kind of did that this past weekend. But um know Bristol are just way too good at that.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah, the they were they're not used to that and playing that but style. And while Bristol's defense is a little loose at moments, um the way Bristol can play and the way Exeter can play are night and day.
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah.
Jarrod Dyke: And I... i I can give Exeter some credit because they played their young kid there um in the 10 shirt. So I can, I give them credit where credit's due and that, that deserves it.
Jarrod Dyke: But you've waited so long to get this kid to develop. Like really, like you're way too late for your own sake.
Grumpy Old Prop: Mm-hmm.
Jarrod Dyke: Like, yes, you've done it. Awesome. You probably should have done it. Like, i don't know, first round, second round.
Grumpy Old Prop: Or so, yeah, certainly before now.
Jarrod Dyke: when you When you were desperately trying to make it work with fucking Henry Slade at 10. I know that wasn't first round, but point being.
Grumpy Old Prop: Right.
Grumpy Old Prop: And Slade got fucking melted.
Jarrod Dyke: So, yeah. Oh, ah big Billy Mata. I was like, ooh, he did.
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah, like that's not...
Jarrod Dyke: He did. And I thought it was legal, too. And i was just like, like that was legal.
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah. ah think he was clean.
Jarrod Dyke: Oh.
Grumpy Old Prop: just got...
Jarrod Dyke: i was like oh
Grumpy Old Prop: Cosmooshed.
Jarrod Dyke: Totally. I was like, oh, you're dead. You are so dead.
Grumpy Old Prop: he
Jarrod Dyke: Dead as a door now. ah I wonder if Henry Slade's reconsidering whether or not he should be in the premiere chip right now. Oh, man.
Grumpy Old Prop: I mean, it's it's not as though he's terribly tired from Six Nations because he didn't play it with the last two matches.
Jarrod Dyke: Ow.
Grumpy Old Prop: So, right.
Jarrod Dyke: He barely played anyway. we're really considering it.
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah, exactly. um But yeah, he was, mean, he, he kind of looked at like, especially with, you know, the Hodge and, and John and Brown bump Bampo, like Slade looks slow out there.
Grumpy Old Prop: He, he, he's not even rigged.
Jarrod Dyke: Oh, totally.
Grumpy Old Prop: Like they're, they're, they're out, outstripping him. So.
Jarrod Dyke: Totally.
Jarrod Dyke: Yep. Time to move on, Henry.
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah, I believe so.
Jarrod Dyke: Okay. Bye.
Grumpy Old Prop: um Also.
Jarrod Dyke: Bye-bye. Bye-bye. Bye-bye.
Grumpy Old Prop: It really annoyed me that they took out when Grandona comes out and they take out Rovovo.
Jarrod Dyke: To get another forward in there.
Grumpy Old Prop: And then i can't really save too much because i mean Bates has a Hattie. But at the same time, if it was Rovovo out there, you probably also would have had a Hattie and then some.
Jarrod Dyke: Probably true. But it's not like Loto had lost anything either. He actually brought quite a bit to the table when he came on.
Grumpy Old Prop: ah He did. He absolutely did.
Jarrod Dyke: Quite a bit for that for that young whippersnapper over there.
Grumpy Old Prop: Nope.
Jarrod Dyke: I did see, what was I seeing? was I looking at the other day? The U20s Q18 that he was in, and it was stacked. was like, oh my god. This...
Jarrod Dyke: how did like i'm pretty sure they won and i was like this team shouldn't have lost a like this team should have barely been scored on it was like like bode barrett was in it and scum was in it tj perinara was in it i was like oh lord this team brad shields was in it i was like fucking hell was like this looks like a fucking team that you would never even want to see in your worst day it's like no please no
Grumpy Old Prop: No. No.
Jarrod Dyke: So, yeah, that was U20's team. I was like, oh, my God. Yeah, most of those players end up playing internationally somewhere. was pretty absurd.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah, but anyway, good stuff. Good stuff's just the same. I think Pieta was in it. Jesus. That was another one I was i just, yeah, i was like, oof.
Grumpy Old Prop: He's okay.
Jarrod Dyke: But, yeah, anyway, um yeah, Bristol are fun to watch.
Grumpy Old Prop: I missed Chuck P.
Jarrod Dyke: Bristol are fun to watch. think it's going to go back to the drawing board and besides something like replacing head coach because they They've done that a lot already.
Grumpy Old Prop: who
Jarrod Dyke: it It's not that that's not the problem. It's the guy that's been in charge the whole time.
Jarrod Dyke: Just saying. Let's go the rec.
Jarrod Dyke: Wrecked him, Danier killed him.
Grumpy Old Prop: um Alfie, Alfie, there's still time on the clock.
Grumpy Old Prop: It's not half yet.
Jarrod Dyke: That's one those ones where you just eat your hat. You're like, ooh, ooh, that's not good.
Grumpy Old Prop: In U.S.
Jarrod Dyke: I'm
Grumpy Old Prop: terms, um they in in terms American might should understand anyway, it was it was um what we call Manny being Manny.
Jarrod Dyke: Oops.
Jarrod Dyke: Oh, my God. Yes. Yes. Indeed it was. Jumping into the stands and trying to high-five people.
Grumpy Old Prop: And, yeah.
Jarrod Dyke: In play.
Grumpy Old Prop: While the play's going on. Yeah.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah, yeah.
Grumpy Old Prop: or Or he would...
Jarrod Dyke: Let me let me let put that caveat in there as well.
Grumpy Old Prop: Or he would have a throw that like from the outfield that goes like five feet. And he stands there and watches, looks at it.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah, he goes further than the throw.
Grumpy Old Prop: He's like, huh?
Jarrod Dyke: but but Yeah, yeah there was the there was I think it was one throw where basically he went further or as far as the throw I was like, okay, Manny, you good, dude?
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah.
Jarrod Dyke: like I understand what's probably going on with your brain right now because you've probably ingested something.
Grumpy Old Prop: yeah
Jarrod Dyke: Get it, but like pay attention, dude.
Grumpy Old Prop: He was wild, man. But the thing is, he had the but probably the best swing of all time.
Jarrod Dyke: Oh, it was a sweet-ass swing, dude. guess it was.
Grumpy Old Prop: And one of the best, like, great, play in in other words, this is a great player do who occasionally just does stupid shit for no reason.
Jarrod Dyke: Yes.
Grumpy Old Prop: But the the the amazing shit that they do completely outweighs the stupid stuff. Just kind of.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah, totally.
Grumpy Old Prop: cra
Jarrod Dyke: ah Totally. ah But to the game. Um...
Grumpy Old Prop: right, I got to pause. Apologies. and I will be game, as you said.
Jarrod Dyke: Unpause. It's like when you play street hockey or street ball.
Grumpy Old Prop: I
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah, exactly. Talk come through.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah, so the... So Bath and Gloucester... I talked about it before in a game earlier. like I don't think the scoreline totally reflects how this game was played by Gloucester, even though it's it appears to be a bit of a pantsing.
Grumpy Old Prop: i mean, it kind of was.
Jarrod Dyke: But... It was, but it wasn't. like ah This is a better team.
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah.
Jarrod Dyke: think we You and you know and I were both talking about it during the game. like Yeah, vastly improved for Gloucester.
Grumpy Old Prop: i mean no yeah i'm not trying to disrespect gloucester it's just that like feel like um bath we're just like we're just gonna be better than you in every way like
Jarrod Dyke: but
Jarrod Dyke: I mean, this might be the Premiership Champions-elect right now, so...
Grumpy Old Prop: right so i mean there's no no shame in that and it's it's just like, Beth are that good. Gloucester are also good, but it's just, and I texted Jared ah during this match. um You know, there are people out there who thought it might be time to fire Skivs.
Jarrod Dyke: No idea who you're talking about.
Grumpy Old Prop: but No idea. Never, never heard any of that concept before.
Jarrod Dyke: No idea who we're talking about here.
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah.
Jarrod Dyke: Wouldn't be some asshole on the side of the mic.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah. I mean, Hey, listen, they're, they're a lot better there. He's putting guys in better places now too, which is the thing. Like I, you know, he had to play his Santa yet 10 this, this game. I wasn't in love with that.
Jarrod Dyke: I would have probably switched him and Barton, but really in the end, you know, they almost, they, they had moments where they were interchangeable as well.
Grumpy Old Prop: it worked out right barton's try was pretty sweet too although it wasn't the try of the week which was also in this game and i'm not going to talk about it during this not yet um and it was for gloucester so it wasn't thomas detoids try which was also sweet
Jarrod Dyke: So, It was fine. Yeah, yeah, totally. That was pretty good try.
Jarrod Dyke: Not yet. Give it a minute. Give it a minute.
Grumpy Old Prop: Oh fuck.
Jarrod Dyke: But, you know, that's just one of those, let's be honest, it's kind of one those fall-over tries.
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah.
Jarrod Dyke: right, so let's go to Super Rugby. um You and I both only watched half of Moana, but Moana and Chiefs, but sounds like that's all we really need to do.
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah.
Jarrod Dyke: Grand Moana actually woke up in the second half, but
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah, but okay.
Jarrod Dyke: did you see did you see the gif of someone like Moana first half, Moana second half?
Grumpy Old Prop: No.
Jarrod Dyke: Oh, it was good. It's just like, it was SpongeBob ripping his shirt off.
Grumpy Old Prop: But yeah, I'm sure they put up. Oh, gosh.
Jarrod Dyke: It was pretty funny.
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah, I'm sure they put up a fight. But I was like, this doesn't matter. They can put up a fall the fight they want.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah.
Grumpy Old Prop: It's not happening.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah, Chiefs are already way too out in front.
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah.
Jarrod Dyke: Highlanders Reds, damn good game. Fun to watch.
Grumpy Old Prop: Reds are, I mean, I know it's it's only Highlanders, but I'm still, that's that's a game Reds could easily have lost. Yeah,
Jarrod Dyke: Oh, totally.
Grumpy Old Prop: yeah and, you know, Australia doesn't do well in ah in New Zealand a lot, so well done to them.
Jarrod Dyke: No. And they didn't have Tate. They didn't have McWright.
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah. but so Yeah, it was also a little bit of a ah change squad too, so yeah.
Jarrod Dyke: So they were missing and are some bodies, too. Yep. Yeah, no. So, yeah, loads credit to them and less kiss. I like a lot what the Reds are doing. I wish they hadn't spit the bit against the Crusaders, but, you know, other than that, they're they're still going pretty well.
Jarrod Dyke: Speaking of Crusaders, um damn, this this might be ah resurgence here.
Grumpy Old Prop: but
Jarrod Dyke: Need to find someone that can kick a goal, but other than that, you know.
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah. they're
Jarrod Dyke: like Taya camera is going to probably lose his job here in a second because although we'll find out tonight when we get the lineups, but like, yeah, like James O'Connor can actually kick a goal and he can do everything else that camera can do.
Grumpy Old Prop: Mm-hmm.
Jarrod Dyke: So he might be in trouble just saying, you know, there's going to be a point where those goal kicks come, come play.
Grumpy Old Prop: come into play. Yeah.
Jarrod Dyke: So yeah, if I'm him, I might sharpen up my kicking just a tiny bit, just a tiny bit.
Grumpy Old Prop: Mm-hmm. Sharpen up those boots. Take a file to them.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah. Get those boots on, buddy. I only watched my, I myself only watched half of Todd's Brumby's, Liked a lot what the Taz were doing. um Brumbies came out and really laid an egg flat.
Grumpy Old Prop: Mm-hmm. Well,
Jarrod Dyke: like um Probably lucky Billy Pollard's card was only a yellow.
Grumpy Old Prop: this is also kind of a change squad for them, right? No Kale, like who... ah the
Jarrod Dyke: But Bobby V was in.
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah, that's true.
Jarrod Dyke: That back row was one of the tougher ones I would not want to play against. so
Grumpy Old Prop: That's true. That's still a rough one, although, you know, yeah, Reimer's actually pretty good now.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah, yeah he's he's coming good.
Grumpy Old Prop: He's gotten significantly better. And Hooper, Hooper's no joke at six, but still.
Jarrod Dyke: Midfield's a little bit meh, but yeah, he's he's actually, you know, as much as we shout on him during the World Cup, he's he's really made a lot strides this season.
Grumpy Old Prop: Mm-hmm.
Grumpy Old Prop: Mm-hmm.
Jarrod Dyke: I feel like every time I watch him, he's doing something pretty good. So loads of credit to him. And you know now I would believe he belongs in the Wallaby squad and can play 4, 5, or 6 if you want to.
Jarrod Dyke: Now I would. Let's put it that way.
Jarrod Dyke: And then neither you nor I watched the force and drew a, but it looks like we didn't need to.
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah, that looks awful.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah. I did not have that on my bingo board. Like force just absolutely tearing the drew a new asshole.
Grumpy Old Prop: Not really. Yeah.
Jarrod Dyke: Like, Nope. It was 33, five at half too. So it wasn't even like, this was a second half performance.
Grumpy Old Prop: Nick Dolly with a hat trick.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah. Right. They, I mean, they ah we love Nick dolly and all, but like,
Grumpy Old Prop: i feel like I I feel like I saw him score a try. I don't know. Maybe it was a previous week, but like, i don't know if I actually saw some of this game.
Jarrod Dyke: he's got one he's got He's got a couple already, so wouldn't be outside the realm of possibility.
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah.
Jarrod Dyke: um
Grumpy Old Prop: I can't say Lester miss him though.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah, so.
Grumpy Old Prop: the the That's the fascinating part.
Jarrod Dyke: Which is wild to think about.
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah.
Jarrod Dyke: And they're going get Blemire soon, too, as well.
Grumpy Old Prop: Fuck off.
Jarrod Dyke: So, yeah, that is wild to think about. Sadly, let's... i mean, we don't have to talk about it too long, but...
Jarrod Dyke: over to the free jacks like ah like the saracens i just don't have a lot of hope for this team
Grumpy Old Prop: I i am ah just get to the playoffs and get it together there.
Jarrod Dyke: i'm hoping they can get there i really am um i think the players they have and they brought back can get them there they're just there there are a few missing pieces that i'm just like you know the back row isn't as strong as it once was
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah.
Jarrod Dyke: um I do like a lot of, you know, I like Johnson, but he's not, you he's not the player that we need him to be, unfortunately.
Grumpy Old Prop: No, he'd make sense at six.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah, but Melvin's playing out of his skin, so there's that.
Grumpy Old Prop: So it kind of works out anyway. And maybe they have that, maybe they haven't flipped anyway.
Jarrod Dyke: and
Grumpy Old Prop: Maybe they're doing the South African thing. No.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah, and Conati is great to have back.
Grumpy Old Prop: hey
Jarrod Dyke: You know, really, a guy we're missing is Mitch Jacobson, which is, Words I never thought I'd utter too much, but you know he did really pull the team together every time the last two seasons we had him, and I don't think we're getting the back this year, sadly. so
Grumpy Old Prop: no
Jarrod Dyke: Hopefully someone can rally these boys a little bit. Cap being back won't be helpful, but he didn't start this game, so that wasn't awesome. and Really just not making the best the best of any situation they could, and shoot themselves in the foot constantly with penalties.
Grumpy Old Prop: Not at all.
Jarrod Dyke: and I don't like Asmus. I think he's a complete fucking moron, but We weren't doing ourselves any favors whatsoever.
Grumpy Old Prop: Not really, no.
Jarrod Dyke: So whatever his shithouse calls were, were irrelevant because we weren't helping ourselves.
Grumpy Old Prop: and And the thing is that old glory gave him every opportunity. They kept knocking it all and knocking on, knocking it on, knocking it on and inside the 22. It's like, okay. And then free Jackson just wouldn't move it outside the 22.
Grumpy Old Prop: They like doing a kick, not to touch, but like
Jarrod Dyke: Nope.
Grumpy Old Prop: up the field and let them, like, they just ran right back, or they would play in midfield and get a penalty, and then now we're back on the side of the 22 again. It's like, do something different.
Jarrod Dyke: Yep.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah, sharpen up the discipline and sharpen up the execution a little bit and things will probably go better.
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah.
Jarrod Dyke: but
Grumpy Old Prop: Mm-hmm.
Jarrod Dyke: But um ah before we get true run out of time, not even going to do the MLA Whiparound because I want to talk about the Banshees. The Boston Banshees and New York Exiles and the comeback trail that we had to lay because we dug ourselves a hole in the first half.
Jarrod Dyke: Wasn't the best, but ah
Grumpy Old Prop: I can only comment on the last 10 because i I came into this, my wife was watching.
Jarrod Dyke: you you so yeah you stumbled in um well our our old friend Jenny Carnish scored yes you done was a house in this game yeah they were just running through people just then she and she scored as well and yeah they scored as well so it was like oh that's that's not good I mean I'm glad they're on our team not the other way around
Grumpy Old Prop: Right at the end. Nice.
Grumpy Old Prop: I imagine.
Grumpy Old Prop: That's what they do best. Yeah.
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah. Yes. Nope.
Jarrod Dyke: um Cheta Emba got dotted down too.
Grumpy Old Prop: Love Chetta.
Jarrod Dyke: i i felt I felt like they didn't get her the ball enough and or she didn't come off her wing enough to get work.
Grumpy Old Prop: That's kind of the story of her career, to be perfectly blunt.
Jarrod Dyke: So I feel like there's...
Grumpy Old Prop: it's It's kind of like it's a shame, but like she's always like.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah.
Grumpy Old Prop: She's got so much talent, but. Doesn't get it enough and doesn't move the the ball enough, kind of just stays on her wing to a little too much.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah.
Grumpy Old Prop: And if she found work, she would be amazing.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah. and So they got to get her to the ball.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah, to get her the ball a little bit more. And, you know, that's got to be coaching in her ear somewhere at some point. It's through. I don't know exactly what needs to be said to get into her ear and to have her understand it.
Jarrod Dyke: But at some point, somebody needs to say something to her, you know, and needs to sink in somehow.
Grumpy Old Prop: yeah
Jarrod Dyke: But she scored.
Grumpy Old Prop: yeah
Jarrod Dyke: um feel bad for her. Some of the girls are like, you know, it was clear that the kit provider has not done a good job of helping out the sizes with some of these girls. Like, and Bo was wearing seven, and I was wearing 11.
Grumpy Old Prop: o
Jarrod Dyke: I was like, yeah.
Grumpy Old Prop: That's not, yeah.
Jarrod Dyke: Ben's dying.
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah, yeah.
Jarrod Dyke: Just FYI. but So let's talk about the the the last 10 before we get too wild and crazy here. um Sadly, the thing the thing, and someone made the comment later on,
Jarrod Dyke: a lot that One of the things that they're going to talk about the most with this game was kind of a shit call at the end there. It was a pretty egregious forward pass.
Grumpy Old Prop: ah Yes, Cass was most definitely poor.
Jarrod Dyke: And I'm not even sure the New York player knew what the fuck was happening until it was too late, honestly.
Grumpy Old Prop: Right. She's like, this is coming at me.
Jarrod Dyke: And...
Grumpy Old Prop: Like, what the hell? i'm
Jarrod Dyke: like is is this is this ball really coming my way?
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah.
Jarrod Dyke: What is going on here?
Grumpy Old Prop: um Yeah, it didn't look like an intentional knock exactly, but like... it I don't know. I just think the the ref and the um and the the touchy must a birdlike slightly they must have been slightly blocked by players because.
Jarrod Dyke: I would imagine the ref was, but I don't know. i don't think the touchy was in line with the pass very well.
Grumpy Old Prop: Right.
Jarrod Dyke: So that was their problem.
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah. Right.
Jarrod Dyke: um And then, yeah, the referee was, I think was unsighted. So, you know, a calamity of errors. And then there's no TMO in this league right now, which is sad, but MLR knows all about that.
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah, exactly.
Jarrod Dyke: um
Grumpy Old Prop: It's one of those, okay, you you do it for a year and then you realize, oh, we can't do that.
Jarrod Dyke: shit
Jarrod Dyke: We kind of need to find a way to get this in.
Grumpy Old Prop: We can't be serious.
Jarrod Dyke: yeah But honestly, so the Banshees had penalty advantage. And the way the momentum was going in this game, I feel like they would have got the job done anyway. They only, they only needed to try to to tie and then hit the kick.
Grumpy Old Prop: Probably. Right.
Jarrod Dyke: And although not that anybody, don't think any of them hit their kicks. Oh, they had one ticket. Nevermind. I lied, but still. So it was a, it was a great game played and there was a lot of really awesome, you know, breakaways, tries, plays in general.
Grumpy Old Prop: Mm-hmm.
Jarrod Dyke: um
Grumpy Old Prop: And in the end, the important thing, New York lost.
Jarrod Dyke: I'm,
Jarrod Dyke: Yes, this is true. This is true. Yeah, i' I hope people are more drawn towards that and not the one shithouse call that came
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah, that's kind of kind of a sucky way to, honestly, kind of a sucky way to win. But at the same time, once again, i was making the Leonardo DiCaprio face a lot right afterwards. So...
Grumpy Old Prop: Like, oh, that's a s sucky way to win, but we won. So, but okay. a
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah, exactly.
Grumpy Old Prop: I'd rather win that way. didn't lose on that. So, yeah.
Jarrod Dyke: No, it's it's ah it's tough. Let's jump into, just jump right into trial the week, dick of the week, player of the week. How's that?
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah.
Jarrod Dyke: Save myself some time because Ben's in trouble.
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah. I am. So yeah, I'm on a leash. I could be yanked at any time. um Try the week, Seb Blake, finishing that that um wonderful passage of play for Gloucester.
Jarrod Dyke: Yep.
Jarrod Dyke: Yes.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah, no, I was like, of all the people are to be on the end, it's going to be a fucking hooker, but all right, all right, still counts.
Grumpy Old Prop: right then it was also a it was also the um bath six starting shit afterwards too so it was bayless like coming in like after a beat he after he made the tackle like you know after the offload he was like getting chippy with uh i think it was and it's like dude eat a dick um so yeah uh so well there it is there's dick of the week too bayless on that
Jarrod Dyke: Oh, Bayless, yeah.
Jarrod Dyke: I think so, too, actually.
Jarrod Dyke: Bayless, yeah. I mean, and really, if we're going to be fair, hola, we got to Veroni from French national team.
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah.
Grumpy Old Prop: Yep.
Grumpy Old Prop: I'm not good.
Jarrod Dyke: Just poor, poor tackle technique on her part. Like, what the actual fuck? um Sad. But, um yeah, player of the week for me is Emma Singh.
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah, but's that's huge.
Jarrod Dyke: This is one of her first, this is what, her second cap in England? Or like first cap in a long time for England in any case. And shined, just shown really, really well.
Grumpy Old Prop: Certainly.
Jarrod Dyke: And this was a change squad for John Mitchell, and knew that.
Grumpy Old Prop: who
Jarrod Dyke: But at the same time, like, she was not one of the letdown points. I can tell you that much right now, even in the second half. um Didn't she get the lone try anyway?
Grumpy Old Prop: Yes, you did.
Jarrod Dyke: The second half? Yeah. So there you go. Ba-boom. So yeah, not Emma Sings fault. Definitely not Emma Sings fault.
Grumpy Old Prop: um So to do. um So my I guess I'm going to go with, ah well, I have a young player. I don't have ah exactly a player. um But um so I'm going to go with that.
Grumpy Old Prop: This is my young player is Guy Pepper, who I think still qualifies.
Jarrod Dyke: Nice.
Grumpy Old Prop: But what a what a performance from him.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah.
Grumpy Old Prop: um
Jarrod Dyke: Yep.
Grumpy Old Prop: Kind of when, again, England, are i still think they need a hard look at their flankers. And someone like him um is is does more than some of the people that they select right now.
Grumpy Old Prop: yeah. maybe they're just waiting for more seasoning on him, but um every time he gets a chance to play, and especially playing with a team like Bath, he's going to get a lot of opportunities to do that.
Jarrod Dyke: Yep.
Grumpy Old Prop: so um
Jarrod Dyke: Agreed.
Grumpy Old Prop: Way to put yourself in good position, kid.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah. Well done. Well done, the guy. Yeah, if I was going to go with a young player, I'd go with um ben the Benson kid from Quinn's.
Jarrod Dyke: as As much as that pains me, like the kid played well and, you know, all those all these kids.
Grumpy Old Prop: He did...
Jarrod Dyke: Like, the kicks that as far out, like... as a seasoned professional, those ticks should be easy, but this guy coming in, having not played a ton, um i think he was playing a little bit for Prem Cup and whatever friendly they may have been playing as well, but really not much.
Jarrod Dyke: And he hit him and he hit him like it was in his sleep.
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah.
Jarrod Dyke: It's like, fuck you, fuck you kid. Nice job, kid. Don't do it again.
Grumpy Old Prop: Right.
Jarrod Dyke: Oh, fuck. All right, pick them, and then we can let you all go.
Grumpy Old Prop: Cool.
Jarrod Dyke: ah Sale and Northampton.
Grumpy Old Prop: Sail.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah, sad, but yes.
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah.
Jarrod Dyke: um Dickheads Newcastle.
Grumpy Old Prop: The kids are at home, huh?
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah, they are.
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah, there you go. I'm
Jarrod Dyke: Sad. Sad again. ah Bath Quinns.
Grumpy Old Prop: going to go with the home team here again.
Jarrod Dyke: Yep, I am too. that's I think Quinns would have a shot if they were at the rec, but yeah, not convinced of that.
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah. Especially because i'm I'm assuming Marcus is playing in this game and they're going to go little bit fuller noise than than they did last week.
Jarrod Dyke: Than they did the other week, yeah. um Gloucester-Bristol. Same.
Grumpy Old Prop: and this one I'm going to go with Bristol because it's the same as last week.
Jarrod Dyke: Same.
Grumpy Old Prop: They're just not quite ready. or Gloucester are not quite ready to win this game, I don't think.
Jarrod Dyke: Nope. Agreed. Leicester Series.
Grumpy Old Prop: Leicester, the way they've been playing, um yeah, I'm not happy about this at all, but damn.
Jarrod Dyke: Yep. Also pains me.
Jarrod Dyke: Nope. Not either.
Jarrod Dyke: Super Rugby. Canes Taz.
Grumpy Old Prop: So don't get me... Don't take this the wrong way. I don't really believe in either of these teams just yet. Like, they I want to.
Jarrod Dyke: I definitely don't believe in the Hurricanes, I'll you that much right now.
Grumpy Old Prop: But they're at home. i'm going to go with what i you know what I was talking about earlier and and go with the Kiwi team at home.
Jarrod Dyke: Okay.
Grumpy Old Prop: Not thrilled with it, but...
Jarrod Dyke: I really don't believe in this Hurricanes team right now. to take the Taz.
Jarrod Dyke: Brumby's Highlanders.
Grumpy Old Prop: I think Brumbies are a better team when they're at home, so...
Jarrod Dyke: Yep, and they are at home, and Highlanders are coming over over the ditch there, so. Crusaders Moana.
Grumpy Old Prop: crusaders apparently they're good again third' they're not not back
Jarrod Dyke: Yep. i I guess they're better they're not fully back, but they're... No, right, exactly. Best way to put it. Red Force.
Grumpy Old Prop: rez yeah
Jarrod Dyke: Yes. In Brizzy. Yeah. Sorry, Force. What happened last week? and like Go back, enjoy it. And, you know, do what you will with that with that tape because it ain't to happen this week.
Grumpy Old Prop: Later. o
Jarrod Dyke: Sorry, Force. Just not happening. and All right. Cool. um Happy to back, everyone. We missed you all. But we're going to sign off out of here and um make sure that you keep your eyes out for sheets and all that good stuff.
Jarrod Dyke: And we'll catch you guys soon. Have a good one, everyone. Enjoy the rugby.
Grumpy Old Prop: later
Jarrod Dyke: Cheers.
