Hello and welcome back to Minds of Metal. My name is Dariam. And I'm Laz. And Happy New Year! I know, yeah, we saw you at the end of last year when we gave you our best album in 2022, but now we're back to kick off 2023 with the way we need to go on.
00:00:23
Speaker
Yeah, so today what we would like to talk to you about is exciting metal release of 2023. That's
Sponsor Highlight: Gothic Jewelry
00:00:31
Speaker
right, yeah. But before we do that, we'd like to thank the sponsor of this video, Gothic. Now Gothic is an online shop of high quality stainless steel handmade jewellery. Gothic provides a wide range of jewellery including rings, bracelets, chains and earrings.
00:00:45
Speaker
I did my first collab with Gothic about 10 months ago. Do you remember when I started doing my reactions? And they reached out to me and do you know what? I just haven't stopped wearing the rings since. They're such a beautiful quality. I can confirm she hasn't. Yeah, that's true. But for me, I'm not really a rings guy. I don't know why I just never saw much jewelry, really. I wear a little chain here, watch every now and then.
00:01:11
Speaker
look at these like these rings like honestly i've fallen in love with these they're just so minimalistic i mean look at this one it's just as simple as we've got on my finger simple gold band got like a a norse tree thing there and this chain one here i've loved it because obviously it suits the style of t-shirt it suits my kind of image and the metal gothic look we're looking for and they really are fantastic quality
00:01:36
Speaker
And you know, what I love about Gothic is that if you go on their website and you look through their catalog, which is huge by the way, there is something for everyone. Like last said, there's minimalistic kind of style. If you don't want to, you know, like huge rings and stuff, but there are some big rings like this one, for example, that you can wear also. And yeah, you can always just find something for the salon. There was even a salon
00:01:59
Speaker
from the Lord of the Rings, which was right up my street. Unfortunately, they didn't have it in my size, but yeah, they've got something for everyone. It's a fantastic shop, full of the highest quality jewelry, rings, chains, and everything. Check out Gothic Range by clicking the link in the description, and be sure to use our discount code, minesofmedal20, to get 20% off.
2023 Metal Album Releases
00:02:23
Speaker
So the brand new year comes brand new promises from bands promising albums, tours, singles, all that sort of stuff. So we had a look at a few metal blogs and a few metal websites and the metal calendar that they have which contains album releases for 2023. Now most of these only currently got to April because bands are still sort of getting things done like final stages of production release dates. I want to kick off.
00:02:47
Speaker
I say I've got a few points but my favourite and first one is that on a few of these metal blogs I've seen one of my favourite bands called King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard. Now, Dash Love is a funny name in their funny band and the thing about this band is that in 2019 they released a fantastic thrash metal album called Infest the Rat's Nest but apart from that they're not metal
00:03:12
Speaker
but they released three or four albums per year. They're one of these crazy bands who just tour and write music. I'm not exaggerating when I say two or three or four albums a year. Yeah, it's quite mind-blowing, isn't it? It is. When you told me about that, I was like, wow. They've got, you know, the album Paper Mache Dream Balloon is like a sixties hippie album. Generally, their stuff is like fuzz rock, stoner rock kind of thing. But I think Infest the Rat's Nest from 2019 put this band on the map of
00:03:40
Speaker
A lot of people like you, people that are metal fans and for them to now be in these lists about albums and projects that people are excited for, I'm excited for them because I love this band. So I'm happy they're getting the recognition they deserve and I really do hope that they stick out another metal album this year.
00:03:59
Speaker
Now there are two artists bands that have their release in March that I'm quite excited about. That's Flo Jansen with her solo album Paragon and Babymetal with the other one. Those three Asian ladies singing in front of a heavy metal band that just shouldn't work, but it does. They've got some great songs. I'm really excited to see what's coming. So contrasting, isn't it? But this is why it's exciting. Yeah, exactly.
Anticipation for Metallica's New Album
00:04:31
Speaker
So the next one I'm looking forward to is Metallica's 72 Seasons, which comes out on April 14th. Now, 2023 makes it 40 years since 1983 when Metallica released their debut album Kill'em All, which is the birth of speed and or thrash metal. I'd love nothing more than 40 years later for Metallica to release a speed metal album. We've heard it in Lux Eterna. We've heard that that personality, the characteristics are still there and they can still write music of that quality. I want a whole album of it.
00:05:01
Speaker
not even trying to pretend anything else. I want a whole speed metal album from Metallica. Cannot wait.
Avenged Sevenfold's Psychedelic Exploration
00:05:09
Speaker
So let's talk about Rage Seven Fold. Okay. How...
00:05:14
Speaker
Long has it been? Oh, I don't know. I'm just so excited. Are you frustrated about how long it's taken? No, because I love the stage. I was happy for the stage to sit with me for years and years, but I'm now getting itchy-avenge syndrome. I need to hear something new. I want to see something new.
00:05:34
Speaker
And I just can't wait to hear what they bring after the stage, because that was quite different for a bench. Yeah. So the stage, if you listen to it as an album, it's very progressive. They have very different sounds, a lot of electronic stuff going, a lot of production, a lot of Proggy stuff. You know, you've got that horn section in the second song. Yeah. What's that called? Or the third song? I can't remember what it is. Just trying new things and being very different. And it was a very progressive album. This one,
00:06:00
Speaker
They've come out on socials and they've, I think it was M shadows came out and said that this is going to be a psychedelic album. I don't know what that could mean in the, in the, you know, in the, in the, the encompasses Avenged 7-4. What could Avenged meets psychedelic mean? We're going to find out this year and I can't wait.
Upcoming Releases from Metal Legends
00:06:20
Speaker
So the next couple of releases I'm looking forward to is not because they're my favourite bands or anything, but they are from Uriah Heap and King Diamond. Now both of these bands are instrumental in, well, creating and innovating the genre of heavy metal.
00:06:35
Speaker
along with Black Sabbath Deep Purple and Budgie, Uriah Heap were there in the forefront in the early 70s pushing this heavy metal thing. And King Diamond were arguing the band that started Thrash Metal. So, whilst I don't love these bands and I don't know their discographies inside out, I'm always wanting to listen and see how these bands are adapting. You know, it's 1970, that's 50 years that Uriah Heap have been doing. Let's see what they're about, you know, and, you know, we owe them a debt of gratitude for what they did for the genre we love. And so for that reason, I'm going to go and check them out.
00:07:04
Speaker
and quite looking forward to what they have to offer. So, another few bands that I'm quite excited to listen to this year are Anthrax. Actually, it's not confirmed yet, but we know that they have something in the making. Yeah, they were writing music. Yeah, also Exodus.
00:07:24
Speaker
Yeah, yeah, absolutely. Judas Priest and Killswitch Engage. That's probably four other four that I'm quite excited about. Lovely. One I'm quite looking forward to is, well, I don't know if I'm looking forward to it, but Paramore have a new outlook on this is why. Now I know, hold on, Paramore and not metal, that's fine. But when I was growing up and getting into metal in sort of the late 2000s, Paramore, one of those bands who were kind of like
00:07:51
Speaker
adjacently moving with the times whilst metal was progressing, Paramore were doing things in kind of female fronted rock that wasn't really being done elsewhere. So I feel like Paramore are kind of synonymous with the movement of heavy metal. For me, anyway, it could be completely personal. I don't even like much of their music, but I thought it was quite a big moment that they've got back together. I don't know if they broke up or but they took a break or something. They're back together now and they got a new album called This Is Why, and I thought it would actually interest quite a few metal fans.
00:08:20
Speaker
and actually talking about female fronted bands within Temptation have something in the making as well this year so I was just blown away by them when I did a reaction to them a few months ago and yeah I am really gonna get into them this year and I'm gonna check out the new album as well as some other stuff
Personal Picks & Listener Engagement
00:08:43
Speaker
Finally, for me, I've got a few bands that I'm just looking forward to hearing what they're going to bring. You've got a bunch of the old bands, Dash mentioned some of them, you've got Anthrax, Judas Priest, Testament, Exodus, even Guns and Roses are writing new material. And again, just like your Iheap and King Diamond, I don't love any of these bands, but I'm always willing to hear what they're going to bring and what they're doing differently.
00:09:02
Speaker
In terms of slightly newer and younger bands, I'm really looking forward to As I Lay Dying, Buried Tomorrow, In Flames, Devil Driver, and Periphery's new one, which the title made me laugh. Gent is not a genre. So that's what we've got coming in 2023. Those are my picks that I'm excited for. Dash just did hers. So yeah, that's what we're looking forward to. Why don't you tell us in the comments what you're looking forward to?
00:09:26
Speaker
which bands are what are you most looking forward to releasing new music? Does the album that you're looking forward to already have a release date or a title track? Let us know in the comments.
